- 0:00Hmm. Welcome to the return to Marie's podcast. I am here Austin Rose,
- 0:24joined by Dakota free Take, soon to be joined by Henters Arbinniki.
- 0:27But he was running behind schedule, shocking, dak How are you feeling after
- 0:32your long weekend? Odd? A lot better? I believest better than I
- 0:38was Sunday night when your audio when you left, were you falling asleep throwing
- 0:45up? Yes? You throw up? No? I didn't. No,
- 0:51okay, okay, all right, Well we were debating after after you hung
- 0:55up. We're like, well, he either he wanted to get a sugar
- 0:58Sanders take your victory lapp in and then he either fell asleep in the car
- 1:03or he threw up. We couldn't decide which one. No, I said,
- 1:11I said, you know what, I'm just gonna get my take out
- 1:12about him, and that's it. I'm out. I'm impressed you even made
- 1:15it on the podcast or being fully honest. Yeah, Hunter texts me,
- 1:22he's like, you're ready to go, now, like, you know what,
- 1:23I'm ready, let's go. Ask screw it. You weren't too bad
- 1:27of shape the guy you were with sounding like he was in rougher shape.
- 1:32Yeah, he did. Not make it very far that night. And that
- 1:36was night two, three, Sunday Night three, that was night three.
- 1:42That was last night. Gosh, that's rough, Yeah it was, it
- 1:47was. It was a lot of fun, but wow, did not feel
- 1:49good. All right, Well, we're gonna get going here without Hunter Hill
- 1:55right in a little bit. He should have the link. We are gonna
- 2:00be talking, shockingly enough, color out of Buffalo game this week. We'll
- 2:07probably wait to do your one minute picks until Hunter hops on. We don't
- 2:10want to mess that up. So we're gonna be previewing the Colorado game this
- 2:15week. It is officially, I believe, the most bet college football game
- 2:20in the history of tracked gambling. Is that accurate? DAC And I was
- 2:23like a Monday, Yeah, that was which you flip it before the card
- 2:31game cart team game. It was fourteen to half Nebraska and now it's card
- 2:37buy three. Yes, people are pouring their money, pouring their money into
- 2:42Colorado. I just checked and hasn't gone up, which I'm surprised. I
- 2:50don't know. I feel like most of the betters probably got in early enough
- 2:53that they you know, there's probably if you're gonna put a bet down,
- 2:55you probably already have you wanted to get it? When hello? I think
- 3:01they looked at it and they're like, like, you know what, let's
- 3:05just keep it at this because money's gonna keep pouring in on Colorado it is,
- 3:08yeah, yeah, Why why give them better odds when it's gonna keep
- 3:13pouring into Colorado? Which, oddly enough, I believe ESPN still has our
- 3:23prediction of a favorite favored Nebraska. I believe. Really, yes, I
- 3:30think we're still favored sixty percent of forty I believe, well, I do.
- 3:37I think Nebraska wins. There's gonna shut down all casinos in the world
- 3:40because it's I don't imagine of there's gonna be a lot of Colorado fans this
- 3:47weekend that do not typically wear the black and gold. No, I think
- 3:54I think there will be a lot of people that throw money on Nebraska money
- 3:59line though. Oh yeah, well, and Nebraska low's covering, Yeah they
- 4:04do. I mean, I think over the course of their you know,
- 4:11last five years, they've covered a lot of spreads, not when covered the
- 4:16spread. Great teams, good teams win, great teams cover deck. That's
- 4:23right, just like Oklahoma. Yes, it's just like Oklahoma. How do
- 4:30you feel about Oklahoma's performance this last weekend. Well, they had Butch Jones
- 4:35crying on the sideline, So that's something, all right, say, it's
- 4:40pretty good they had. I didn't know this, but they had Calado's old
- 4:44starting quarterback or last year starting quarterback they played against. Oh really, JT.
- 4:49Scroud or something like that, Stroud Stroud. All I can think of
- 4:54is CJ. Stroud. I didn't know who he was, and I looked
- 4:59it up. I was like, holy, crappy played their last year.
- 5:01He had terrible stats. But m oh, it looks like Zarves is about
- 5:06to join us. Once he gets in here, Zarves are there? Not
- 5:15quite. Once he gets in here, we'll start talking into we'll start looking
- 5:18over the Colorado football team. So Nebraska traveling to Boulder this weekend, I
- 5:25expect there to be still a lot of red, regardless of where the money
- 5:29is going. I assume you expect the same. Oh yeah, I think
- 5:34I think it'll be seventy thirty Husker fans there. Wow, that's a pretty
- 5:40heavy shift, because I think they bought him all already before Colorado won that.
- 5:46That's true. They probably bought him before Dion was ted coach to be
- 5:50honest. Oh yeah, I think they bought him all out to begin with.
- 5:54I don't think now now card they're probably trying to buy him. Zarves
- 5:59is joy to us. He's wearing his return to Glory tank top. Were
- 6:01you all golfing? Oh you're muted. We can't hear you either that or
- 6:08your your MIC's not working in your car? What are the two get to
- 6:12a stopping point? My goodness, he's driving. How unsafe can he be?
- 6:19So the Colorado Buffalo? How are we now? Oh? There we
- 6:23go? We can hear you now? Great? Were you a golfing?
- 6:28No, I was at the gym, but I am done from the car.
- 6:33Have we figured out how we're gonna be Colorado yet? No, we
- 6:36haven't figured We were talking about Dak's weekend last weekend, so we're just getting
- 6:41to Colorado. Man, Well shit, I thought we'd be done with the
- 6:45pod by now talking about how we're victorious. Speaking of victorious last weekend,
- 6:53the reason all the money is on Colorado. Colorado goes in two TCU beach
- 6:58TCU buy three forty five forty two behind an incredible performance by shitter Shanders das
- 7:05Heisman favorite. Is that what I'm hearing. I told you, guys,
- 7:10second best pack twelve quarterback, second best pack towelve quarterback. How much did
- 7:15bow Nicks win by? They won eighty one three or something seventy three yees
- 7:25seventy three, so they yes, they beat the number seventeen ranked TCU horned
- 7:31frog shitter Shanders through for thirty eight completions out of forty seven attempts, five
- 7:35hundred ten yards, four touchdowns for five hundred ten yards. The big receivers
- 7:45there, obviously, Travis Hunter, the two way Star, also jumped in
- 7:48the Heisman favorites this last week. Eleven receptions one hundred nineteen yards, Dylan
- 7:54Edwards, they're running back five receptions one hundred and thirty five yards, the
- 7:58longest seventy five little and Jimmy Horn Junior eleven receptions one hundred and seventeen yards
- 8:07with their leading rusher, city On Wilkerson thirteen carries for forty five yards and
- 8:11one touchdown. So if if someone's winning the Heisman, I think from Colorado
- 8:18and it's could be the year you never know, but it's Travis hundred because
- 8:22he's playing so many snaps and that's impressive to dude. So like I I
- 8:28honestly don't think Colorado needs to win ten, eleven, twelve games. They
- 8:31just can't have a undefeated team with a star player. Then they might have
- 8:39a chance, honestly, And I think I saw the day there at We're
- 8:41like both of them were plus seventeen hundred, which it wasn't the favorite,
- 8:45but it wasn't like the top five to seven. But they're stuts. I
- 8:46mean, they have dudes that can do elite things on the football field.
- 8:52And you mentioned some of those other guys too, the USF transfer receivers,
- 8:56and then I mean they got players. And that's the biggest concern in my
- 9:01mind when it comes to this game, is how do we stop him?
- 9:07Like I get all the other players, and they were bad last year.
- 9:11They obviously brought a new a bunch of new guys in, but like we
- 9:16knew they had players, we knew they'd be good, but the thought was,
- 9:18Okay, they weren't going against power five competition at Jackson State. And
- 9:24you know what, though their five star recruits, Travis Hunter was he was
- 9:30the number one recruit in his class. Oh he's not a scrub? Yeah?
- 9:39Can you play that many snaps in elevation though, I don't know.
- 9:43I don't I'm walking on the mountain up there. I can't Breathe don't know
- 9:46how he's gonna breathe. He's practicing every day there. That's true, and
- 9:54I mean that's kind of been the story about Colorado all off season though.
- 9:58Is dion what br is Louis Vuitton luggage. And they're very top heavy.
- 10:05They're not a deep squad, and I think that's kind of universally accepted as
- 10:09this is true. They're elite talent, elite, but it drops pretty quickly.
- 10:15Although against TCU it looked good, but again going into the game,
- 10:20I think there's a lot of Week one overreactions because TCU yes was in the
- 10:26National title game last year, but they had like the ninety fifth worst defense
- 10:31last year, and they won ten of their games by ten points or fewer.
- 10:35I want to say, seven of their games by less than a touchdown,
- 10:39So it wasn't like they were dominant team by any means. They were
- 10:45winning the close games. They were clutch, but they're deep. As what's
- 10:50TCU better than Minnesota? Yes? Last year? No, this year,
- 10:58this Week one, I don't know. I don't know, well, what's
- 11:03the point of the podcast is given opinion. Do you think they are not
- 11:09yes? Offensively no, Offensively yes, Defensively no. Well, I I
- 11:18think they their defense, it's a big, tall defense, always gonna sucked.
- 11:24But they they moved up and down the field, Cardos too, They
- 11:28had skill position players everywhere too. It was I think they looked a lot
- 11:33better Minnesota did. I mean the thought that I'm getting at is everybody is
- 11:37taking Colorado's game and saying how a good Colorado played as a twenty one point
- 11:43dog. Obviously they won the game and then didn't say much about TCU.
- 11:50While our game, we obviously did not win, we talked about that,
- 11:54how we used it, blew every opportunity, but everybody just said how bad
- 11:58minutes Oda was. I'm not convinced that Minnesota's defense is not great really good
- 12:03again, and I mean everybody looks at bones in Nebraska's offense is absolutely horrible,
- 12:09Like I mean, it could be, it could be. I don't
- 12:11know, but I do think that we're gonna be able to do what we
- 12:16want to do better. We're gonna have to because Colorado is ultimately going to
- 12:20score some points. Yeah, so we are going to have to We're gonna
- 12:26have success against Colorado was in the run game. Their passing game was not.
- 12:31Their quarterback is twenty four for forty two for two and two like they
- 12:35had. They got a decent chunk of yards. I mean, Colorado still
- 12:39gave up five hundred plus yards as a defense, but they gave up two
- 12:46hundred sixty two rushing yards. And if tc would have run the ball more,
- 12:48they would have won the game. They just didn't. Your only hope
- 12:54is Cardo's defense is complete doc shit, which it could be. It could
- 12:58be. And the strength of their defense is their secondary. And we went
- 13:05through Colorado's offense and some of the players they have their defense. If you
- 13:11look at them, the big time transfers they brought in, we're in the
- 13:15secondary and TCU still exploited them in the secondary. We're not going to have
- 13:20the players to do that. I think the game playing and this is I
- 13:26mean, this game is getting talked as one of the top games. I
- 13:30mean even sometimes more than Texas and Alabama, which is nuts. But I
- 13:35forgot Texas and Alabama were playing until I was doing research for this podcast.
- 13:39That is, let's how big Colorado Nebraska is I wish text Abama play.
- 13:43Honestly, the strategy that the whole nation is talking about is how much we
- 13:54need to run the ball and flow the game down and take Colorado out of
- 14:00their tempo. And I mean, that's the formula to beat them. Hello,
- 14:05that's what we've been saying. We need to be the formula to be
- 14:07any team for a long time, not just Colorado. But here we are
- 14:11now that the team like Colorado gets fun. Colorado played similar to how Scott
- 14:20frostberk and plays year over year, and what beat us teams the way we
- 14:24played or we should play. So I think we're gonna play that way.
- 14:28There's not a question in my mind. Well there is a little bit,
- 14:31but I do think we are going to play and slow the game down because
- 14:33it's pretty obvious even the national people that that's what we gotta do to win
- 14:37the game. But the question is if Colorado puts eight or seven or eight
- 14:41or nine guys in the box, I mean, there's a way to stop
- 14:45that. You just load the box up what we did to Minnesota. Can
- 14:48we counter that? Can we make a completion? Can we not turn it
- 14:50over three times through the air? I don't know, No, I agree,
- 14:54I think it it's Minnesota was ranked number nine defense last year in total
- 15:03yards. TCU was ninety five. Nebraska was one hundreds. So there's something
- 15:09to say. Our defense was kind of ship last year too, as as
- 15:11was TCU. So are we any different than TCU? I don't know.
- 15:15Maybe with the worst offense, but they were calling, you know, everyone
- 15:18was saying Nebraska was sloppy against Minnesota. We had seven penalties. Well,
- 15:22Colorado had six last week. Like it's it's week one. I think a
- 15:28lot of people overreacted to the to Colorado coming out and beating TCU because everyone
- 15:35thinks TCUs where they should be last year. I don't think TCU is gonna
- 15:37be that good this year. Do I think it's gonna be a close game?
- 15:41Yes? Well, the thing about your door was he had all day
- 15:46to throw. Yeah he didn't, and you rot the same pressure open.
- 15:52Yeah, he had all day to throw. It wasn't like he's getting pressure
- 15:56the whole time and throwing. I mean, he's throwing great balls, but
- 16:00he never got pressure. Dinald thing, Wait we think three or four times
- 16:04how many sacks they have? Uh, Colorado was sacked. Give me five
- 16:11seconds it's loading, it's loading. I will say Colorado didn't sack them at
- 16:18all. It didn't happen one time. There was much pressure either way in
- 16:22that game. Yeah, Colorado had zero sacks. TCU had four sacks with
- 16:30seven tackles for loss from TCU, zero tackles for lost from Colorado. Yeah,
- 16:34it's a dogshit defense. So you guys outside of Travis Hunter, I
- 16:41don't know. Like so, I mean, if we're looking at Colorado's obviously
- 16:45Shilo Sanders with their leading tackler with ten total tackles, nine of them being
- 16:49solo. But on defense it's Travis Hunter and on offense it's Travis Hunter Shuter
- 16:56Standers. I think those are the electric players that we're gonna struggle with.
- 17:02I think if we figure those guys out, which it could be nothing,
- 17:06it could be something. I don't know. Colorado's defense last year was second
- 17:11to last against the run, second to last against the past, second to
- 17:17last scoring. And obviously they changed everything and brought new people, and they
- 17:22got edge rushers from Florida State and Washington. I mean, they're not bringing
- 17:26in lower Division one players, They're bringing in guys from big schools. They
- 17:33got it obviously a new decordinator and Charles Kelly who comes from Alabama. Like
- 17:37it's hard, just I mean, even Nebraska, it's hard for us to
- 17:40tell what exactly to make both their offense and defense. I think their defense
- 17:48more so because yeah, TCU score on them a lot, but TCU's offense
- 17:52is also known to do that. So TCU also did have like I mean,
- 17:56they lost their starting quarterback, their top two running back, their top
- 18:00two wide receivers, and something like that. Like I mean, they had
- 18:07a completely fresh and their offensive coordinator left right. But the way they the
- 18:14way they scored or move the ball was not running. I mean they ran
- 18:18it well too, but it was they exploited Colorado throwing it and just going
- 18:22down the field often and doing that, like they have better athletes than we
- 18:29do at receiver. That's where my only my big concern, and I have
- 18:33this in all caps in my notes, is can we run the ball?
- 18:36Because you would think Colorado is going to stack the box and we're going to
- 18:40have to run the ball. We have to control the clock, we have
- 18:42to play that game. So the quote that I loved that I heard was
- 18:45make them make us throw the ball. We don't have to throw the ball.
- 18:48We don't. We shouldn't at all if our running games working. But
- 18:52if we're not able to run the ball because they got eight, nine,
- 18:55ten guys in the box, then we're going to have to throw the ball
- 18:59with simms, which Dak's favorite guy, Like, we don't know, is
- 19:03that just who he is? Yes, three years would tell you who that's
- 19:10who he is. And after Dak you know, jumped off our podcast on
- 19:15Sunday, we talked about how like we ultimately need to make it simpler for
- 19:21Jeff Sims this week. The problem is we might be put in a situation
- 19:25where he may have to throw the ball out they're forcing us to. I
- 19:29hope that's not the case. And he still needs to run twenty plus times.
- 19:33That needs to happen. So we have to be able to not turn
- 19:37it over. That's the big thing. Even if we throw incomplete passes,
- 19:41like, just don't turn the ball over. I think if any point this
- 19:47year you guys get down fourteen games over, I don't think I don't need
- 19:49your capable of coming back from fourteen point depths it I probably agree with that
- 19:55statement. It will be definitely tough. I mean outside of it, not
- 20:00in the first quarter, I don't. I agree with that stavor. Yeah,
- 20:03I mean, if it's fourteen, oh, like midway through the first
- 20:04you might have a shot. But if it's like second half, I don't
- 20:07think there's any shot. You guys come back, come back from the two
- 20:10scores down. I agree with that speaking, I would say, with that
- 20:15being said, flipping it back to the other side of the ball, you
- 20:18mentioned all of those athletes and those players, I mean Dylan Edwards. You
- 20:22talk about the two that are Heisman, but Dylan Edwards had a day against
- 20:26tcu UH. Their offensive coordinator, which we're gonna talk about d On here
- 20:32in a little bit. But beyond a phenomenal jobcatast, he did a phenomenal
- 20:38job hiring coordinators. I mean he's got former head coaches, guys from all
- 20:44over the country. He took Can't State's head coach, Sean Lewis is their
- 20:48offensive coordinator. And that's what this offense is. It's nicknamed the Flashbass Attack,
- 20:52which the Can't State was the Golden Flashes, so that's like where this
- 20:56name comes from. And then you saw it. I mean, holy cow,
- 21:00the tempo that they ran, especially the first two drives, like they
- 21:06got a couple of illegal substitution penalties because TCU is just in panic mode.
- 21:11Now we've seen it, and we've seen the flip side of it, guys.
- 21:14We saw it. Frost did that, and we saw what happens if
- 21:18you go three and out and your defense who just got pounded getsstually gonna have
- 21:23to come right back out. We saw the other side of that. So
- 21:26the thought is that that's that show and that that style is great, and
- 21:32yeah, I can put up points, but if you can get them to
- 21:33go three and out or even one first down and off the field, like
- 21:38holy cow, you're sitting in a really good position to control the game.
- 21:42That that's the the ultimate. Like to me, that's what it's gonna come
- 21:47down to, is can we actually slow down that offense because if they go
- 21:49down and score fourteen, nothing like goodbye, Like we're we're in trouble.
- 21:55So we need to keep it close and consistent for four quarters. If you
- 21:59make them three times, I think you're gonna win the game. Wow,
- 22:03we started right down these down fourteen, we lose three punts, we win.
- 22:08I like these very simple statistic meet you know, lines that we can
- 22:11draw here, Dad, because I think I don't think their defense can stop
- 22:15you guys, and I their defensive stop anybody. I think I might agree.
- 22:23Again, their defense was not impressive at all, and they have a
- 22:30long way to last year too. It just slow towards Travis fire rule,
- 22:34right. It just it's so hard, guys to tell, because TCU's offense
- 22:41is the opposite of our offense. Colorado's offense is the opposite of Minnesota's offense.
- 22:45Like it's so hard to gage. We could say Colorado's defense sucks,
- 22:49but like we could say that it did bad against TCU, we can say
- 22:55that correct your tackles for loss, gave up forty two points of five yards.
- 23:00It's still so much like overreaction and of week one, like what do
- 23:06we know here? And on top of that, let's talk. I want
- 23:08to talk about the line movement a little bit too. We were we were
- 23:11dying and a half ten point favorite coming into the year in this game,
- 23:15and the lines moved like thirteen points. Now it's sitting at three. I
- 23:19believe it actually went from three and a half down to three in favor of
- 23:23Colorado. And the Colorado side has been the most bet side in the history
- 23:30of college football. So all of the public's on Colorado and the people that
- 23:37bought in Colorado week one and and one of those being Fox buying in and
- 23:41getting this game. I mean, holy cow, good for Fox to get
- 23:45this game on Big newon kickoff. But it's it's a fade. The simple
- 23:49fade the public to me and the betting strategy is everyone's jumping on the hype
- 23:55when in reality, we talked about it, we didn't look that bad.
- 23:57I mean, we looked better than Minnesota. The three points through three quarters.
- 24:02I just think if we had Scott Frost and we tried playing with with
- 24:04these athletes, if we tried last year style, I mean, it would
- 24:08just be a complete We score more points, don't get me wrong, but
- 24:11we would have chance of winning this game. Isaiah Garcia Cassineta, Did I
- 24:18say that right first? You got it? Yeah? I got that right.
- 24:23He is out with an ACL So that's one of our starting righte receivers
- 24:29out, So are already thin positioned. It just got thinner. I didn't.
- 24:34I didn't get this out Sunday, but I'm gona be honest. I
- 24:38was. I was actually I pressed in Nebraska. Wow, you couldn't say
- 24:42that while you were drunk, but you can say it now while yourself.
- 24:45I'm pretty sure he did say that on Sunday. He doesn't know what he
- 24:51said. I was impressed. They moved the ball up and down the field,
- 24:57like, yeah, relatively good, and their defense looked amazing. The
- 25:03defense looked really good. And your old line looked really good too, I
- 25:07thought, outside of Turner, I I think it was okay. I expected
- 25:15it was not horrendous, but expectations were like at the very bottom. I
- 25:19would say it was slightly better than last year. Question mark maybe before we
- 25:27I have a lot other points, and we got to go through our keys
- 25:30here too, But I don't want to run out of time before Dak isn't
- 25:36able to get his picks in. So, Dak, are you ready for
- 25:42your I'm ready to slate. I'm on fire. Yeah, yeah, let's
- 25:49really quick, Dak give a recap of how last week's picks went. I
- 25:55went five and three. My only two losses were Texas Tech, Purdue and
- 26:00goll Run in Nebraska. Which Texas Tech? How the hell did you lose
- 26:03to Wyoming and Purdue? I don't know who they lost too, but it
- 26:07wasn't any one good Fresno. Yeah, but yeah, and you weren't even
- 26:14close on the over in our game? What do you mean that was pretty
- 26:18close? All right? Ready, yep, gop all right. First by
- 26:26the week is oh you minus fifteen. I'm gonna be honestly, I'm a
- 26:29little worried about that game, but we're gonna take them, just because I
- 26:30have to. Next game, I'm not Texas Famma. Here we go Texas
- 26:37plus seven a half. Buy that up to set from seven. They're gonna,
- 26:42I honestly think they're gonna beat Bamma, and I hope they do to
- 26:48hype up the Red River rivalry game. And you know what, a family
- 26:52win by seven, we're all happy. All right, let's go next one
- 26:55here, Kansas minus three. They're gonna stop Illinois. Illinois le's awful.
- 26:59Beat one. I don't who they play. They won by three points,
- 27:03big ten. West look beats Flito, Flito. Yeah, Kansas looked pretty
- 27:08good. Actually again and then all right, next one A and m minus
- 27:12four and a half. They're gonna slaughter Miami. Miami's terrible tyler being dikes
- 27:18ducks. I'm texaneam actually the quarterback now then let's go. Let's go,
- 27:26let's go in a brast the money line, I love it. The jack
- 27:32don't ask a question during your minute. You're wasting time to give me.
- 27:37I should have wrote down with these people play. So I don't think Illinois
- 27:42play lost by three either. I think I just made that up. Illinois
- 27:47Illinois one by two on a last second field goal to Toledo, and Austin's
- 27:51right, the Big Ten West did suck. It hit me today that every
- 27:53Big West Big Ten West team did not cover their spread except for Nebraska.
- 27:59We were the only ones to cover the spread. So that makes that loss
- 28:04even more frustrating. It does, it really does, all right. I'd
- 28:10love to dive into those real quick. The biggest one I want to say,
- 28:12like Texas Alabama, Dak you're picking Texas. I actually like them too,
- 28:18But they can't win in Tusca Loosa. Oh, I think they can't.
- 28:23Nick Saban last year. Last year they should have been to begin with.
- 28:27If Quinn Ears didn't get hurt, they would have won. I think
- 28:30I agree with that, and I'll be him at a better quarterback in Tuscaloosa.
- 28:36Though I don't know. I do like him against the spread, though
- 28:37it's gonna be a dog fight. All right, let's jump back to Okay
- 28:45before we get to our keys. I have like a big overarching topic of
- 28:51conversation here, Dak, you've been a big fan or proponent of Dion,
- 28:59like you think it's going to work, and you've you've said that from the
- 29:02beginning of this year. On the flip side, we have Matt Rule,
- 29:07who is known for having the traditional rebuild. It takes some time. First
- 29:12year's a struggle. He established the culture. Theon it's right at the beginning,
- 29:18it's get the recruits, it's get the athletes. It's very contrasting styles.
- 29:25So Dak, you've you've been a big backer of it, like it
- 29:29worked through week one. Okay, is Deon and as you believe is going
- 29:33to work. Is it just because it's Colorado? Or could this work like
- 29:37if he would have went to Florida State. I think it's I think he's
- 29:41gonna work anywhere. He's gonna get the recruits, Stransford Porter, He's gonna
- 29:45bring it. He's gonna be when he wants in. And the second question,
- 29:49the second part of that is does the style only work because it's Deon
- 29:55Sanders, and Dion's been able to dominate everything. He's a done this life
- 30:00or could this also work if you're I don't know some other I mean,
- 30:04you can't be a known name, but can can someone like I don't know,
- 30:10someone that knows a little b about football just coming to the football landscape
- 30:11and say, Hey, I'm getting all the recruits, let's go. That's
- 30:15all say. I think it only works because it's Dion and because they're winning.
- 30:21If Colorado comes out here and just lays eggs the rest of the year
- 30:23and then has a losing record next year, it's like, all right,
- 30:27is Dion just full of hot air? You know, it loses that gravy
- 30:32tops. As of right now, he's had success plane, offense, defense,
- 30:37baseball, and coaching and HBCUs. If he comes out here and just
- 30:41starts laying eggs and just can't get it done, it just becomes hot air,
- 30:44and it's just I think it loses its charm. I think this might
- 30:48be hot digg. I think that was the most impressive win in the history
- 30:52college football. Last week? Whoa boy over taking over one and eleven team
- 30:56and doing the history of college football? You take over one eleventh team,
- 31:02you go on the road a team that mad Nash Championship last year and you
- 31:04beat him. Yeah, I guess looking at it from that without knowing any
- 31:10of the background, like yeah, I mean right, if you say just
- 31:12that as the headline, I could see that, But knowing what TCU went
- 31:17through and how they got to the national championship, you know, that'd be
- 31:19like if someone was like if Nebraska beat Yukon and basketball, It's like,
- 31:26yeah, they won the national title last year, but yeah, so the
- 31:34question then for the rebuild moving forward, not just Nebraska but other teams,
- 31:41and theon also has that that boisterous personality too that comes along with it.
- 31:45Right, But this is an example. Let's say you're, well, hell,
- 31:51let's go with Iowa, and Iowa Kirk Ferrens say he's done after this
- 31:53year because he just flat out just doesn't make it anymore because he's too old.
- 32:00Could you if Peyton Manning says I want to coach college football, could
- 32:05you hire Peyton Manning and just bring in like all of this talent because it's
- 32:09Peyton Manning And and like, if you're a fan base, do you want
- 32:14that? After seeing what Dion did? And I know Deon and Peyton Manning
- 32:17are two different people, But like, that's kind of the point here,
- 32:20is that you just get a big name and someone that you're gonna get recruits
- 32:23for, and yeah, they might know a little bit about football. Deon's
- 32:27proving that he maybe know knows a lot about football coaching staff. Correct,
- 32:31But but again, you bring Peyton Manning could hire damn good coaching staff.
- 32:36I guarantee it with all his connections. So like, does that style work
- 32:39in today's college football? Yes, it's recruiting fanser portal and I l definitely
- 32:46and and that you laugh, But like we hired Matt Role, we hired
- 32:52a traditional rebuild the guy. I don't think that wait can't work anymore,
- 32:58and I don't I still think that rule could easily turn it around and and
- 33:00and do it here. But it makes you wonder, like, well,
- 33:04we could have had Dion? Could you know? We could have maybe done
- 33:07it? Culture doesn't matter, though, I don't think Dion would have fit
- 33:12culture. But but what Deon's doing is making his own culture. Like you,
- 33:16He's established his own culture at Colorado. It's differently, do you care
- 33:22about a culture when you win? Though? What I mean what what does
- 33:27the word culture mean? Like Dion has a culture at Colorado. He does,
- 33:30he has one. It's not it's not the culture that some people think
- 33:34is appropriate. But like you said, Dak, you're winning games like that.
- 33:37Cultures working and and and whatever you want to say. Culture means with
- 33:43Lamborghinis and Maserati's and gold chains. But what I have. This is my
- 33:47second point to Dion here. He talked and talked and talked and talked and
- 33:51talked, but when it came down to season, guys, he has been
- 33:54locked in. And when I'm listening to his press conferences, I'm scared.
- 33:59Like he's taught, he's saying the right things. I was hoping he'd come
- 34:02out of that game and say see I told you so, which he did
- 34:05a little bit of that, and just get on cloud nine and say,
- 34:08you know, I'm the greatest of all time. No, he said,
- 34:10it's next game, it's Nebraska, Like, we gotta focus, we gotta
- 34:15move on next play. We did some things that weren't very good. He
- 34:17told the team that, you know, our offense was good, but we
- 34:20need to clean some things up. That's the part that I'm like, crap.
- 34:22He gets that part of coaching. I was hoping he didn't. I
- 34:27only heard him say once I told you all off season that this is gonna
- 34:30happen, and that was it. That's all I've heard him say that,
- 34:31And he shut down that one reporter, which was funny, like, I
- 34:37don't know. I just wanted to hit on that because it is very unique
- 34:40here to the situation with Rule and Dion going up against each other here such
- 34:47early in the college football season. Gotta hit on our keys here. So
- 34:55I have my three who wants to go first? I kind of wanta go
- 35:01first. I know we're gonna we're doing all three or just one at a
- 35:05time? Do all three? Mine are very different? Well, I know
- 35:09one of those gonna be yours. There is chaining the drives. We need
- 35:15to have sustainable drives down the field to maintain that ball control, keep their
- 35:20offense off the field, burn the clock, keep it going. We kind
- 35:25of hit on that earlier. I'm assuming that's one of your keys of the
- 35:28game. I could be wrong. I'm gonna stick with winning the turnover battle.
- 35:32We can't have four turnovers, that's pretty obvious. We don't have a
- 35:37lot of room to make up for error. So winning the turnover battle.
- 35:43And then for my last key to the game, it is getting our playmakers
- 35:52more involved. I'm looking at Malachi Coleman, I'm looking at Thomas Fidoni.
- 35:57I want to see those guys getting the ball to see what they can do
- 36:00against a very talented you know, Travis Hunter, because it definitely that's when
- 36:04I watched Minnesota, That's definitely what I noticed was our receivers just did not
- 36:07look like they had that juice. So I want to see those guys that
- 36:10have been touted as recruits with that juice out on the field. All right,
- 36:20go ahead, do you mean to go? Yep? Go? Dak?
- 36:23Al right, my first key. You gotta put pressure on pressure on
- 36:27Sador. You cannot let him sit back there and just he'll carve you up
- 36:30if you do. I honestly think he's the top five quarterback nation already.
- 36:36Man, Dack, you are just I was. I think he's that good.
- 36:43Dak is rolling with takes tonight. Yeah. Here's here's no oh wait,
- 36:50one more take here that heard. If Avantables gets fired, they're going
- 36:52after don That's another take I've heard. But okay, here's a point number
- 36:59two. Don't throw Travis Hunter at all. You just throw the opposite side
- 37:04of the field. Don't don't even be able to make up that ground and
- 37:07catch it or block it, he might confess. And then and then point
- 37:14number three goes off at number two. Just don't throw the ball at all.
- 37:20Just run it, run as much as can sims cannot throw, do
- 37:23not throw it, don't even try. So that's a trick play bleep lickor
- 37:29Dack's like number two and three or the opposite of Austin's number three. Yeah,
- 37:34pretty much. And I'm siding with Dak here. I really am,
- 37:37Like I'm saying, I want us to throw it, but we need to
- 37:39get those guys involved. I don't think we do, like I seriously,
- 37:44I don't. I mean, if we get him involved up like I would
- 37:46say Fidoni for sure, like on a tight end dump. But Malachi Coleman
- 37:50doesn't need to catch the ball. I don't care. All I want him
- 37:52to do is run fifty yards down the field every time. Make Travis Hunter
- 37:55run with him and wear him out, like I don't care if they can
- 37:59the play. And that is well, that is my like one of my
- 38:01keys is to wear out the elite players, Like I'm not kidding. On
- 38:06every run play, whoever he's guarding, Travis Hunter's guarding, you just take
- 38:12off and sprint down the field and then you do it. You just do
- 38:14it every play just to wear him out. And that also goes into you
- 38:19have to We're gonna have to hit Sanders a few times to ring his bell
- 38:23a little bit, So that kind of ties into Dacks. But that was
- 38:25one of my keys, is wearing out their elite players. Like when you
- 38:29go against the team in any sport that just has elite talent, you have
- 38:32to get to their skin early on and know, oh my, this is
- 38:37gonna be a long game. And Austin mentioned it, before you do that,
- 38:42you take out those key players and what do they have left, Like
- 38:45you're gonna start seeing the lack of depth that this roster has from Colorado.
- 38:50But if you can't do that from the get go, you're in trouble.
- 38:52It's gonna be a long four quarter game of these elite players just making this
- 39:00looks silly. Point number two making the first and last hit. What I
- 39:06mean by that when we come out of the tunnel for warmups, we have
- 39:14to come out there and just freaking I don't care if we're get in a
- 39:16fight, like we need to make a statement to say we are here,
- 39:22We're not scared of you. We played well last week two. Get after
- 39:28them. Just it's a heated rivalry. We didn't even talk about that,
- 39:30Like this is one of the heated rivalries in college football history. Like you,
- 39:36we have to make ourselves known that this is Nebraska football. This is
- 39:39what it means to be a Husker. So I'm saying that before the game
- 39:45and then throughout the game, don't do anything stupid, like do not egg
- 39:52them. You can egg them on, but don't retaliate. Don't get stupid
- 39:54penalties. That's what Scott Frost teams did. That's what they did, and
- 39:59that's what talk about the lack of culture or whatever that culture is that they
- 40:01had or that we had. They might have that too. Let them get
- 40:06the dumb penalties and don't retaliate. Like that has to be a message because
- 40:08it's gonna happen. This game is going to be the most watched game of
- 40:13the week over Texas Alabama probably, so thank you good what them get the
- 40:19stupid penalties, the targetings, the tauntings. Let them do that, but
- 40:23we also have to do it before in the warmups, and if we have
- 40:27to take a fifteen yard penalty because we started fighting warmups, I'll take that
- 40:30at the beginning, but nothing during the game. And then to finish off
- 40:35that point, we have to make the last hit two, which ultimately means
- 40:37winning the game. So when it comes down to the last four minutes,
- 40:40we are the ones with the ball, controlling the clock, running the clock
- 40:45out and just piss pounding them because we have the game. One. My
- 40:49last see is just being consistent to our game plan for four quarters, and
- 40:57our game plan that we've talked about is running the ball and like Dak said,
- 41:01don't throw it at all, and if we're gonna throw it, make
- 41:06it the simplest thing on earth. But being consistent with that for four quarters
- 41:10and trust it. Now, if we're down twenty one nothing, fourteen nothing,
- 41:14twenty one nothing and it's the middle of the second quarter and we have
- 41:19done nothing on offense, then maybe we change it. But just because we
- 41:22get down two touchdowns in the first six minutes, trust the running the ball.
- 41:28The physicality is going to win out, and when we get to the
- 41:31third and fourth quarter, we'll see it wear on them. We'll see Travis
- 41:37Honter, who has been running fifty yards every played down the field because that's
- 41:40going to happen. We'll see him get tired, and we'll ultimately win the
- 41:45game in the fourth quarter. It's gonna be a close game. I don't
- 41:46think they're gonna blow us out. We're not blowing them out. It's gonna
- 41:50be a close game. Let's play consistence for four quarters and disciplined. I
- 41:54mean that goes along with turnovers and penalties, but being consistent for four quarters.
- 42:00I like it. Yep. I think, all right, quick,
- 42:06I think the other team out Nebraska before we go scut col right on me,
- 42:13Hold on, Dak, what are you trying to say right now?
- 42:15I said, if there's any teams that's gonna blow there one now, it's
- 42:16gonna be Colorado. Nebraska can't blow a Calado. While I agree with that,
- 42:25I'm with you. We have to do score predictions, all right.
- 42:32Who's going Who was closest last week to the thirteen ten? I was nowhere
- 42:39in the ballpark. I think I was twenty four seventeen. I was the
- 42:47thirty at twenty four, So Austin, I think it's the big winner for
- 42:52week one, So Austin, that gives you the honors to go and lead
- 42:57us off. Okay, I've got Colorado winning by ten thirty give me twenty
- 43:07seven seventeen. Well, I took Nebraska money line earlier, so I guess
- 43:16I gotta go thirty thirty five Nebraska. Oh back, how the hell are
- 43:22we gonna score thirty five points? Their defense is awful. I don't care.
- 43:27We're not scoring thirty five. Oh I think I think me, you
- 43:30and Austin could scored thirty five on them. Wow, we're gonna do it.
- 43:37Guys, We're gonna win. We're gonna win this game. We're getting
- 43:39so overlooked. We're winning it. Twenty four twenty one. I just won't
- 43:44myself to believe that. I don't be so sad. And if I believe
- 43:46that, and you know I don't drink the kool laid, I don't do
- 43:52it. I know I don't. And I just once I saw week one
- 43:57from us, and I get it. What we saw from Colorado too.
- 43:59We saw that the rivalry game is what scares me because that field is going
- 44:05to be I mean, that place is going to be. It's gonna be
- 44:09a blood bat. It just it's like it was going to be before Colorado
- 44:14one. It's just going to be a disaster out there. And if any
- 44:17Husk fans going, like, seriously, do not wear red until you absolutely
- 44:22have to, Like, it's not going to be good. It won't be
- 44:27rough. But Dak, I did hear you say you thought it was gonna
- 44:30be seventy thirty when jumped on? Yeah, I do, because I do.
- 44:37I think they bought all the pickets before this seventy thirty. Yeah,
- 44:42I don't. I think they bought that many tickets before all this happened in
- 44:45the car out of winning. Yeah, I don't know, but that that
- 44:49was they also knew they had d on. I mean, I think there'll
- 44:52be a lot of red in the stadium, don't get me wrong. But
- 44:54tickets right now are absolutely insane, going for about four hundred dollars, So
- 45:00I guess that's anyways. All right, We will be back on Sunday,
- 45:06hopefully celibate braiding a big Red victory. Go Big Red V. We are
- 45:09bloomer soonder. I love that burnt orange. Dude,
