- 0:00Speaker 1: Your news, traffic, weather, and information stations. This is South
- 0:05Speaker 1: Carolina's morning news on one O three point five FM,
- 0:09Speaker 1: five sixty AM WVOC, and ninety four to three WSC.
- 0:14Speaker 2: It's Primary Day. Good morning everybody, six oh three. Kelley Nash,
- 0:20Speaker 2: Christopher Thompson. How are you today? I'm great. I'm excited.
- 0:23Speaker 3: You are excited?
- 0:24Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Did by the way, you didn't even tell me. Did
- 0:26Speaker 2: you do early voting or are you going today?
- 0:29Speaker 5: I always vote on election day.
- 0:31Speaker 3: You're a traditionalist, I am.
- 0:33Speaker 5: I am.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Do you have like a special tie or something that
- 0:36Speaker 2: you wear to the falls?
- 0:37Speaker 6: No, nothing like that. And as I mentioned yesterday, my
- 0:41Speaker 6: polling place has changed.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I was going to say a lot of peoples have.
- 0:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 0:44Speaker 6: Mine is a school and they're you know, most counties
- 0:47Speaker 6: are now allowing voters to walk in and out of
- 0:50Speaker 6: the schools for safety reasons. So depending on where you are,
- 0:54Speaker 6: your polling place is probably changed too.
- 0:56Speaker 3: SC votes dot gov is the website.
- 0:59Speaker 7: Correct.
- 1:00Speaker 2: SC votes dot gov correct, and don't don't fall for imitations.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Don't go to like a dot com or something. SC
- 1:08Speaker 2: votes dot gov And then they will ask you some well,
- 1:12Speaker 2: they're gonna ask you the county. They're gonna ask you
- 1:14Speaker 2: your full name, and then they're gonna ask you the
- 1:15Speaker 2: last four of your social Security and then they will
- 1:19Speaker 2: tell you where to vote, because, as Christopher said, he
- 1:21Speaker 2: votes in a school that was changed. I understand that
- 1:24Speaker 2: there's even been some nonschool polling locations that have been moved.
- 1:28Speaker 2: So if before you go today, just do it today,
- 1:32Speaker 2: like right now, if you can, just put on sc
- 1:35Speaker 2: votes dot gov.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Gov and make sure that you know where you're going.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I did it last night to make sure I knew
- 1:41Speaker 2: where Angela, my wife, and I are supposed to vote.
- 1:43Speaker 2: So we didn't want to miss out on it today
- 1:45Speaker 2: because it's such a huge day. When's the last time
- 1:48Speaker 2: South Carolina? I mean, Tim Scott was the last quote
- 1:51Speaker 2: unquote new senator that we got. What was that twenty fourteen,
- 1:54Speaker 2: twenty twelve? I can't remember, so yeah, so yeah, but
- 1:57Speaker 2: it had been twenty twelve because twenty fourteen was the
- 1:59Speaker 2: Lindsay primary, which was I still talk about that when
- 2:03Speaker 2: people say that, well, Lindsay Graham, you know, was not.
- 2:06Speaker 2: He always had a problem with parts of the base,
- 2:11Speaker 2: and don't I can't remember a bigger time than twenty fourteen,
- 2:16Speaker 2: and that's when you had Nancy Mason the primary, a
- 2:20Speaker 2: very popular at the time conservative senator, and Lee Bright.
- 2:24Speaker 2: We had the Debt Bowers, who was a very popular
- 2:26Speaker 2: pastor in Colombia. There was a bunch of people who
- 2:30Speaker 2: ran against him. I can't remember all the names right now.
- 2:32Speaker 2: One of them was like a retired general or something.
- 2:35Speaker 2: We had like six people primary him in twenty fourteen
- 2:38Speaker 2: and the results were exactly the same. It was like
- 2:40Speaker 2: he got like fifty six percent of the vote, like
- 2:42Speaker 2: he just that's what he does. He got fifty six
- 2:45Speaker 2: percent of the Republicans behind him, which meant he was
- 2:47Speaker 2: always going to win in the general election, which is
- 2:49Speaker 2: why a lot of people are saying that whoever the
- 2:53Speaker 2: next Senator is should be more in the mold of
- 2:56Speaker 2: Lindsey Graham. But we're hearing from a lot of other
- 2:58Speaker 2: people who saying they should be completely different. Any thoughts
- 3:02Speaker 2: on that, Christopher, Well, I mean.
- 3:03Speaker 6: I'm looking at the polling, which you wonder if anyone
- 3:07Speaker 6: is looking for a difference right now, because the latest
- 3:10Speaker 6: poll came out late yesterday. The Trafalgar Group came out
- 3:13Speaker 6: with a poll. It's I think that will be the
- 3:16Speaker 6: final poll that drops before voting today and it listed
- 3:19Speaker 6: Darling Graham with a huge lead, a nine point lead
- 3:24Speaker 6: over Ralph Norman.
- 3:25Speaker 5: But she's not over. She's not over fifty to fifty percent.
- 3:29Speaker 2: And that's that's the rub, right is you always got
- 3:32Speaker 2: to get to If you get to a runoff, then
- 3:34Speaker 2: it gets crazy. I mean, well this is crazy. What
- 3:37Speaker 2: we've been living through is crazy, but it's going to
- 3:39Speaker 2: get even crazier in a runoff.
- 3:41Speaker 3: All right, well, big show today.
- 3:43Speaker 2: We're going to talk to well not we're not talking
- 3:46Speaker 2: to all of the candidates, but those who wanted to participate.
- 3:49Speaker 2: We're going to talk to all of them today. We're
- 3:51Speaker 2: going to also get a little visit. We recorded this yesterday.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Scott bessen was in Charleston yesterday and we were honored here.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Christopher and I that out of all of the radio
- 4:03Speaker 2: shows he could call into in the Charleston market, I
- 4:07Speaker 2: think it was Tim Scott's office recommended us. So very cool, Yeah,
- 4:11Speaker 2: very cool. We'll be talking with Scott Bessentt a little
- 4:13Speaker 2: bit later on in the broadcast, talking about not only
- 4:16Speaker 2: the renaming of Joint Base Lindsey Graham, but also you
- 4:20Speaker 2: know what's going on with is his economic fury against Iran.
- 4:24Speaker 2: What's going on with the fraud fight. I mean, so
- 4:27Speaker 2: many things are happening. By the way, he told me
- 4:28Speaker 2: there's a chance for you and I and everybody to
- 4:31Speaker 2: get money if you report fraudsters. We'll talk about that
- 4:35Speaker 2: and more. I think we'll get started with with one
- 4:38Speaker 2: of the candidates. We've got a lot of candidates calling
- 4:40Speaker 2: in today. We'll go with one of those.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Next. It is South Carolina's Morning News from the.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Midlands to the low Country. This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Six twelve, and coming up on the show, we'll be
- 4:52Speaker 2: talking with Mark Sandford. We're going to be talking with
- 4:55Speaker 2: Russell Fry, We're going to be talking with Ralph Norman.
- 4:58Speaker 2: We're going to try to get to his many people.
- 5:00Speaker 2: If anybody wants to call and we want to use
- 5:03Speaker 2: a talkback feature, we'll try to get you on that
- 5:06Speaker 2: invitation goes out to the candidates. One of the candidates
- 5:09Speaker 2: who took us up on the offer was the man
- 5:11Speaker 2: who primaried Lindsay Graham this year, and he's on the phone.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Good morning, Mark Lynch. How you doing.
- 5:17Speaker 8: I'm doing great. How are you, Killy?
- 5:19Speaker 2: I'm fantastic. This crazy sprint is coming to an end.
- 5:23Speaker 2: The finish line is in sight. How do you feel
- 5:25Speaker 2: about it?
- 5:26Speaker 8: I feel really good. We did so well in the
- 5:29Speaker 8: debates and a lot of people that hadn't heard me
- 5:32Speaker 8: before saw me in action that night. They realize, you know,
- 5:37Speaker 8: they have the authority to use their rights to send
- 5:40Speaker 8: these politicians home and get a real patriot in there,
- 5:43Speaker 8: help get a successful businessman in office instead of a
- 5:46Speaker 8: career politician.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Well, all the pollsters are saying we're probably going to
- 5:51Speaker 2: go to a runoff. Is that what you're seeing as well?
- 5:54Speaker 2: That in all likelihood it's going to be just too
- 5:56Speaker 2: left after tonight? Or is it going to be a winner?
- 5:58Speaker 8: I hope I'm a winner with all the candidates, and
- 6:01Speaker 8: it's probably the maths that's not there. It's probably going
- 6:04Speaker 8: to definitely go to a runoff.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very tough when you have like nine or
- 6:08Speaker 2: ten people running to get more than fifty percent, which
- 6:11Speaker 2: is the rule here in South Carolina. So, in all likelihood,
- 6:15Speaker 2: we're going to have a couple of more weeks of
- 6:17Speaker 2: this fun and for volity, Are you ready to crisscross
- 6:20Speaker 2: the state some more?
- 6:21Speaker 8: Why not? We've been in this for over two years
- 6:24Speaker 8: with a horrible attack from him, and over fifty million
- 6:28Speaker 8: dollars spent against me. We still managed to punch a
- 6:32Speaker 8: hole in his dam and get up right at thirty
- 6:36Speaker 8: percent of the vote.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Any final words, You know, people are heading out to
- 6:39Speaker 2: the polls hopefully this morning. They're going to get up
- 6:41Speaker 2: and get at them and go vote. Any thoughts that
- 6:44Speaker 2: they should have ringing in their ears from the Lynch campaign.
- 6:46Speaker 8: Like I've told everybody, I'm a lifelong South Carolinian, I'm
- 6:50Speaker 8: a successful businessman. I've grown our family business now in
- 6:53Speaker 8: our seventy fourth year with God at the center, and
- 6:58Speaker 8: we've grown our business thirty five times debt free corporately
- 7:02Speaker 8: and personally. I'm an ordained deacon. I've been married to
- 7:06Speaker 8: the same woman for thirty eight years. We have two children,
- 7:09Speaker 8: four beautiful grandchildren, and we come in the name of
- 7:14Speaker 8: Jesus Christ to bring back the foundation that our country
- 7:18Speaker 8: was founded on. We've got to come back to God first.
- 7:21Speaker 8: That's the only answer, all right.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Mark Lynch.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Two questions that I've been asking every candidate. First, one,
- 7:26Speaker 2: are you having a party tonight where Lynch supporters could
- 7:28Speaker 2: show up?
- 7:29Speaker 8: We are having a big cree party at a restaurant
- 7:33Speaker 8: called Mister Halipino in Woodruff where we live, Okay, and
- 7:38Speaker 8: people are welcome to come there and celebrate with us
- 7:41Speaker 8: and watch the polling come in.
- 7:44Speaker 2: And the final question is will you support whoever wins
- 7:48Speaker 2: ultimately the GOP nomination against doctor and Andrews.
- 7:52Speaker 8: Absolutely, we have to maintain control here with a Republican
- 7:56Speaker 8: party in our state and not lose it to the
- 7:59Speaker 8: Democrat socialist and Andrews.
- 8:01Speaker 7: No way.
- 8:02Speaker 8: And I'll tell you what, There's not a better candidate
- 8:05Speaker 8: to go up against her than me that understands everything
- 8:08Speaker 8: she is. I'm the complete opposite. I'm the one hundred
- 8:11Speaker 8: percent pro life candidate endorsed by Abby Johnson and Equal
- 8:16Speaker 8: Protection South Carolina. We need somebody that understands that.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Well.
- 8:21Speaker 2: It's been a pleasure speaking with you, sir. We've had
- 8:23Speaker 2: you on a couple of times, and we wish you
- 8:24Speaker 2: all the best tonight. And if you're fortunate enough to
- 8:27Speaker 2: make it into that runoff, I guess we'll probably talk
- 8:29Speaker 2: to you in a week or two.
- 8:30Speaker 3: So best of.
- 8:31Speaker 7: Luck, sir.
- 8:32Speaker 8: I look forward to it.
- 8:33Speaker 7: Thank you, Kelly, thank you Mark Lynch. Best of luck, Yes, sir,
- 8:36Speaker 7: got all right.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Well there you go, So that's candidate number one in
- 8:40Speaker 2: the books for this morning. And he thought, Sir Christopher Thompson, well.
- 8:44Speaker 6: Kelly, let's make it clear that you extended this invitation
- 8:47Speaker 6: to all the candidates.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Everybody's and by the way, yesterday on social media, I.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Was putting it out there.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I felt was it Shane Beemer that used to say
- 8:56Speaker 2: who's next?
- 8:57Speaker 3: Or was it Dion Sanders.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I've tried to remember which choose to do that, like
- 9:00Speaker 2: in the recruiting and so I would say, so yesterday
- 9:03Speaker 2: I was like, big show lined up for tomorrow. I
- 9:05Speaker 2: started naming all the people and that I.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Was like, who's next, Who's next?
- 9:09Speaker 2: So I do have a couple of other people who
- 9:11Speaker 2: not candidates, but people who just wanted to be on
- 9:13Speaker 2: the show, like, uh, well, like the sc Policy Council, right,
- 9:16Speaker 2: they they got it. They're like, yeah, when can we
- 9:18Speaker 2: get on? So we're gonna be talking to the SC
- 9:20Speaker 2: Policy Council, not today because we're so busy, but about
- 9:24Speaker 2: the state House vote on the budget, which is supposed
- 9:26Speaker 2: to come down today sometimes so we'll talk to them
- 9:29Speaker 2: tomorrow about that, but.
- 9:30Speaker 5: That would be our lead story in any other day.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gonna be.
- 9:34Speaker 2: We got so much going on, Christopher, So anyway, yes,
- 9:38Speaker 2: excited to be talking to all the candidates whoever, who's
- 9:41Speaker 2: ever interested. If you don't want to take advantage of
- 9:43Speaker 2: the platform, that's fine, you do it, you do you girl.
- 9:46Speaker 3: All right.
- 9:47Speaker 2: It is six seventeen on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 9:51Speaker 1: This is South Carolina is Morning News on one O
- 9:54Speaker 1: three five FM and five sixty AM WVOC, Columbia and
- 9:59Speaker 1: ninety three WSC Charleston.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Six twenty three.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Christopher Thompson Kelly Nash together, South Carolina's Morning News. I'm
- 10:07Speaker 2: a little bummed, Christopher that you're going on like a vacation.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Of course you've earned it, but we're flowing so well.
- 10:14Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 10:14Speaker 3: And then next week I will be off.
- 10:16Speaker 2: So it's just a lot more chaos to add to
- 10:19Speaker 2: the special day of primaries here.
- 10:21Speaker 5: But then we'll be back, We'll both be back and
- 10:23Speaker 5: for the duration.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Yes, we have that to look forward to.
- 10:26Speaker 2: In the meantime, another Fauci bombshell has dropped, and.
- 10:32Speaker 3: This is.
- 10:34Speaker 2: All right, I'm going to tie it all in together.
- 10:37Speaker 2: So yesterday the President signed an executive order. We're reducing
- 10:40Speaker 2: the amount of vaccinations that a child is recommended to get.
- 10:43Speaker 2: We were currently at twenty seven in America before your
- 10:47Speaker 2: age two. That is by far the highest on Earth
- 10:52Speaker 2: by far. So when you saw like Jake Tapper and
- 10:56Speaker 2: the mainstream media melting down yesterday like he's rejecting tayat, well,
- 11:00Speaker 2: why don't they have that same science in Canada. Why
- 11:03Speaker 2: don't they have that same science in Germany or England
- 11:05Speaker 2: or anywhere else on Earth. There's nowhere else on Earth
- 11:08Speaker 2: that even gets close to twenty shots, never mind twenty
- 11:11Speaker 2: seven shots before your second birthday. Now, put that to
- 11:16Speaker 2: one side. Where we're trying to move in a new direction.
- 11:19Speaker 2: We're going to try to lower the amount of shots.
- 11:21Speaker 2: I think they're going to twelve, maybe eleven or twelve
- 11:23Speaker 2: shots before your second birthday. When I was a kid,
- 11:25Speaker 2: it was six and I'm here and you made it.
- 11:28Speaker 2: We all made it. But we'll put that to the side.
- 11:31Speaker 2: We'll also put in that right now. As far as
- 11:33Speaker 2: chronic diseases ranked by countries, United States where number one,
- 11:40Speaker 2: where number one. More Americans have more chronic diseases by
- 11:44Speaker 2: a population than any other country. And that's whether you're
- 11:49Speaker 2: looking at it by one hundred thousand or you're just
- 11:51Speaker 2: looking at it in raw numbers, Yes, we have more
- 11:53Speaker 2: chronic diseases than countries with billions of people. Now again,
- 11:58Speaker 2: I'll understand that there's we have been are reporting and
- 12:00Speaker 2: all that, but we are not a healthy population by far.
- 12:05Speaker 2: All of that to say that as they're bemoaning that
- 12:08Speaker 2: Tony Fauci. This came out yesterday, Ron Johnson released that
- 12:13Speaker 2: Fauci's personal text messages. We're going back to January of
- 12:17Speaker 2: twenty twenty one. He's telling the people, what's her face?
- 12:22Speaker 2: That not Burk's the other lady, Rochelle Willnsky, Rachelle Wilynsky
- 12:27Speaker 2: and the Surgeon General at the time. He's telling them
- 12:29Speaker 2: his concerns over this vaccination, specifically pregnant women, and he's
- 12:35Speaker 2: talking about what he's seeing and he's saying this could
- 12:40Speaker 2: lead to miscarriages. That's what That's what he's telling his cohorts,
- 12:46Speaker 2: his colleagues. But then he gets on TV and he says.
- 12:49Speaker 9: This under the EU way, approximately twenty thousand pregnant women
- 12:54Speaker 9: have been vaccinated with no red flags, as we say,
- 12:58Speaker 9: and this is being monitored by the the FDA.
- 13:02Speaker 2: So he's not expressing any concerns, not letting anybody know
- 13:06Speaker 2: that they privately, I think they're the you know what,
- 13:08Speaker 2: I think there's something going on here, he says, no,
- 13:10Speaker 2: go and get it now. The bombshell that came out
- 13:14Speaker 2: is the authors of the study that they were using
- 13:19Speaker 2: showed a miscarriage rate of twelve point six percent if
- 13:22Speaker 2: you took the vaccination. I don't know what a normal
- 13:25Speaker 2: miscarriage rate is for somebody in the first trimester. That
- 13:28Speaker 2: seems a bit high to me, but maybe it's not.
- 13:30Speaker 2: But I will tell you that what the actual numbers show.
- 13:35Speaker 3: That is high.
- 13:36Speaker 2: According to the now revealed raw data from five years ago,
- 13:43Speaker 2: eighty two percent miscarriage rate from women who got vaccinated
- 13:48Speaker 2: in the first trimester eighty two percent.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Fauci says, no red flags.
- 13:53Speaker 2: I don't know what a red flag for him would be,
- 13:56Speaker 2: because if you're telling me the twenty thousand women, and
- 13:59Speaker 2: if I just went with an eight eighty percent, if
- 14:01Speaker 2: twenty thousand women are pregnant and sixteen thousand of them
- 14:04Speaker 2: have miscarriages, I think we have a massive problem.
- 14:07Speaker 3: That is more than a red flag.
- 14:08Speaker 2: And for Fauci to bury that information and not talk
- 14:12Speaker 2: about we're finding out about it in the year, twenty
- 14:14Speaker 2: twenty six, year of our Lord, when they knew about
- 14:17Speaker 2: it in twenty twenty one, in twenty twenty two and
- 14:19Speaker 2: twenty twenty three and twenty twenty four.
- 14:21Speaker 3: What the flip, Christopher?
- 14:23Speaker 6: That's imagine being a woman who experienced that tragedy and
- 14:28Speaker 6: then hearing that news yesterday.
- 14:30Speaker 3: It's but trust the science. Trust he is the science.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Trust the science.
- 14:37Speaker 2: You get put in a position of authority, You get
- 14:40Speaker 2: put in a position where we think we you're giving
- 14:43Speaker 2: us real data we can use, and you hide the data,
- 14:47Speaker 2: you lie about the actual figures, and then when it's exposed,
- 14:52Speaker 2: you say that it's us. That's crazy. They're going to
- 14:54Speaker 2: continue to try to gaslight us and tell us, oh
- 14:56Speaker 2: my gosh, we're going from twenty seven down to twelve shots.
- 15:00Speaker 2: We're going to kill all Americans. Well, why are the
- 15:02Speaker 2: other countries at twelve to fifteen shots? What happened to
- 15:05Speaker 2: the science in Germany? What happened to the science in Australia?
- 15:07Speaker 2: What happened to the science in Canada?
- 15:09Speaker 3: What? Oh, they're they're backwards?
- 15:11Speaker 7: Is that? What?
- 15:11Speaker 2: That is.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Very frustrating?
- 15:15Speaker 2: Okay, well you know what, what's good news? Scott Bessant
- 15:18Speaker 2: decided to pick make us his favorite Columbia Morning, Columbia
- 15:21Speaker 2: and Charleston Boarding. So we will talk to the Treasury
- 15:24Speaker 2: Secretary next on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Live from the State Capitol. This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 15:32Speaker 2: You probably just heard in the news break that Scott
- 15:35Speaker 2: Bessant was in town for the renaming of Joint Based
- 15:39Speaker 2: Charleston to Joint Base Lindsay Graham, and we were honored
- 15:42Speaker 2: that he decided to call into our show.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Scott, how are you?
- 15:47Speaker 4: I am good, Kelly, how are you?
- 15:48Speaker 3: I am living the American dream.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Thank you for joining me, sir, and what a pleasure
- 15:53Speaker 2: to have you back in South Carolina.
- 15:55Speaker 3: How was the visit?
- 15:56Speaker 4: It was great, It was great. It was quick and
- 16:00Speaker 4: show the government can move quickly. I've never seen anything
- 16:06Speaker 4: a credit to Elliott Suming, whose idea was and then
- 16:10Speaker 4: Helen Hill piled on and they got the idea to me,
- 16:14Speaker 4: and then it went to the President and then bow
- 16:18Speaker 4: executed very quickly.
- 16:20Speaker 2: It was a beautiful ceremony. I saw some of your comments,
- 16:23Speaker 2: just fantastic stuff from you. I love the idea of
- 16:25Speaker 2: how you kind of chronicled Lindsay Graham's life.
- 16:28Speaker 3: And his dedication to this state.
- 16:30Speaker 2: And I think you used a phrase something like, you know,
- 16:33Speaker 2: no man has gone as far as Lindsay Graham has left,
- 16:35Speaker 2: but never left the state exactly.
- 16:37Speaker 4: And also he's like a C seventeen. He's the workhorse.
- 16:41Speaker 2: And did you say you sat on your side porch
- 16:44Speaker 2: and right there in Charleston and watched those planes.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Yees, Well they come in right over the harbor, so
- 16:49Speaker 4: they're coming back from wherever, Middle East, Europe, Africa.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Again, we have the Treasurer Secretary on the phone with
- 16:56Speaker 2: the Scott Besson. Pleasure to have you on with us.
- 16:58Speaker 2: As you know, you are so busy doing so many
- 17:01Speaker 2: different things. But I think one of the most amazing
- 17:05Speaker 2: things that you and the Trump administration have put together
- 17:08Speaker 2: is the Trump Bonds. This is so incredible for future generations.
- 17:12Speaker 4: But Kelly, it's not actually bonds. It's better it's an
- 17:16Speaker 4: equity state, so it's an investment in a diversified index fund.
- 17:21Speaker 4: There are Trump Accounts open to every child in the
- 17:24Speaker 4: US under age eighteen. For those children born during President
- 17:28Speaker 4: Trump's term, Treasury will contribute one thousand dollars to the
- 17:33Speaker 4: accounts as seed investment. And then we also have some
- 17:38Speaker 4: great philanthropists putting money in. Many states are putting money in.
- 17:41Speaker 4: So everybody should go to Trump accounts dot gov and
- 17:44Speaker 4: get them open. And we want to make everyone a
- 17:47Speaker 4: shareholder in our great economy.
- 17:49Speaker 3: I'm talking with Scott Besson.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Are you expecting this to continue after the Trump administration
- 17:53Speaker 2: or is that just at the discretion of the future president.
- 17:56Speaker 4: It'll we have the discretion of the future president. But
- 17:58Speaker 4: I think this is an idea whose time has come.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Thirty eight percent of household in the US have no
- 18:06Speaker 4: exposure to the equity market, either through direct equity ownership
- 18:10Speaker 4: or four oh one case, and I think the goal
- 18:13Speaker 4: should be an ownership society. Everybody should have a piece
- 18:17Speaker 4: of the action. And here at Treasury, we're working on
- 18:21Speaker 4: financial literacy. It's something my family and I have been
- 18:24Speaker 4: doing for more than two decades.
- 18:26Speaker 2: One of the things that a lot of people talk
- 18:28Speaker 2: about is Iran, and it seems like the president is
- 18:31Speaker 2: really more or less content to just let it. Seems
- 18:33Speaker 2: like you're handling it right now with Operation Economic Fury,
- 18:38Speaker 2: and you're just squeezing the life out of Iran.
- 18:40Speaker 3: It fields. Yeah.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Look, when I grew up in the Low Country, we
- 18:46Speaker 4: live near a swamp, and there are a lot of
- 18:47Speaker 4: poisonous snakes in the yard, and we would take a raak,
- 18:51Speaker 4: a hooe, a machete cut its head off. But anybody
- 18:55Speaker 4: who's ever done that, note the snake can keep squirming
- 19:00Speaker 4: until the sun goes down. And right now we've cut
- 19:02Speaker 4: the head of the Iranian snake alf it's still squirming.
- 19:07Speaker 4: We've got it in a vice grip. And we are
- 19:10Speaker 4: going to continue pressuring their economy because that's what will
- 19:14Speaker 4: eventually bring them to the table. They've got food inflation
- 19:17Speaker 4: of almost two hundred percent, regular inflation of over one hundred,
- 19:21Speaker 4: their currencies collapse. They're not able to pay the troops.
- 19:25Speaker 4: The police have stopped showing up for work, and they're
- 19:29Speaker 4: terrorist proxies around the region, the Huti's Hezbola Hamas. They're
- 19:34Speaker 4: having trouble paying them. So at President Trump's direction, we
- 19:39Speaker 4: a treasury are going to keep squeezing them.
- 19:43Speaker 2: If you hadn't brought up, Christopher, the idea of the
- 19:46Speaker 2: terrorist groups not getting paid, it could have sounded like
- 19:50Speaker 2: a Joe Biden administration, a little bit exploding inflation, nobody's
- 19:55Speaker 2: getting paid. It was miserable, But anyway, we can't play
- 19:59Speaker 2: the entire interview with Scott Besson, but we do have
- 20:02Speaker 2: it on the National Briefing podcast, and again that's a
- 20:05Speaker 2: daily podcast, goes about ten minutes long. You can hear
- 20:08Speaker 2: the entire interview. We only played a few moments of
- 20:10Speaker 2: it here we have. We'll play more of it little
- 20:12Speaker 2: later on maybe the seven or eight o'clock hour today.
- 20:15Speaker 2: But Christopher Thompson, this is a big day here in
- 20:18Speaker 2: South Carolina. It was nice to have Scott Besson home,
- 20:21Speaker 2: but we have more pressing matters that we have to
- 20:24Speaker 2: get to, including more candidates.
- 20:26Speaker 3: To talk to.
- 20:27Speaker 5: I can't wait. Who's up next?
- 20:30Speaker 3: You know what, that's a good question. What do you think?
- 20:34Speaker 3: How about the former governor?
- 20:35Speaker 2: Okay, we're gonna go with the former governor, the man
- 20:38Speaker 2: who goes around the state with pork and barrel, his
- 20:41Speaker 2: favorite pigs. We'll talk with Mark Sandford next on South
- 20:43Speaker 2: Carolina's Morning News.
- 20:45Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 20:48Speaker 2: All right, talking to the former governor of South Carolina,
- 20:51Speaker 2: Mark Sandford.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Your polling is coming to an ending. How how did
- 20:55Speaker 3: you feel it when?
- 20:56Speaker 10: Well, we'll find that this evening. We'll see what the
- 21:00Speaker 10: voters have to say. Well, you know, I'll just say this,
- 21:05Speaker 10: We're running all the way through the finish line. We've
- 21:08Speaker 10: tried as best we can to cover as many corners
- 21:12Speaker 10: in South Carolina as we could and to talk to
- 21:15Speaker 10: as many people as we can, and resoundingly people have said,
- 21:18Speaker 10: you know.
- 21:19Speaker 1: You're right.
- 21:19Speaker 10: It just doesn't make any sense to have Washington spending
- 21:22Speaker 10: a bunch of money it doesn't have, and then turning
- 21:24Speaker 10: around and printing money that's not there. It is diminishing
- 21:29Speaker 10: the value of what I can buy every day, diminishing
- 21:33Speaker 10: my purchasing power. There is an affordability issue on a
- 21:36Speaker 10: whole host of things, and that's tied to something a
- 21:39Speaker 10: whole lot bigger than spending or even affordability, and that
- 21:42Speaker 10: is our ability to pursue the American dream. I mean,
- 21:44Speaker 10: I worry about my boys.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I think a lot of people are very concerned. And
- 21:47Speaker 2: you brought up the figure it took us one hundred
- 21:49Speaker 2: and sixty eight years to get to a trillion and
- 21:51Speaker 2: now we're doing it every hundred days, which is crazy.
- 21:54Speaker 10: I mean, you know, no civilization across the pages of
- 21:57Speaker 10: time has been all the outrun math. And when you
- 22:00Speaker 10: get to the point where interest is your fastest growing
- 22:03Speaker 10: federal categories spending, you got a problem.
- 22:06Speaker 2: So as people hopefully head out to the polls, I've
- 22:09Speaker 2: been looking at some of the early voting numbers and
- 22:11Speaker 2: it seems like you know your home area, Dorchester, Berkeley,
- 22:15Speaker 2: Charleston counties, they've been kind of under performing at least
- 22:18Speaker 2: the early voting. Hopefully they're going to get up and
- 22:20Speaker 2: out it today.
- 22:22Speaker 3: But whether they're.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Listening to us in the low Country or in the
- 22:24Speaker 2: Midlands right now, what is your final messages people are
- 22:27Speaker 2: heading out.
- 22:28Speaker 10: To the polls would emphasize how important this is to
- 22:31Speaker 10: not only each one of us, but to our loved ones.
- 22:34Speaker 10: Do we get that course corrected or we've got real
- 22:36Speaker 10: problems ahead? And what I would say is, I think
- 22:39Speaker 10: what stands out about our candidacy is the fact that
- 22:42Speaker 10: I actually did this when I was governors out Carelia.
- 22:44Speaker 10: We held the line on government spending as no governor
- 22:47Speaker 10: has done before since. And I think that people would
- 22:50Speaker 10: like to see that mentality up in DC.
- 22:52Speaker 2: I've asked the other candidates this, are you going to
- 22:54Speaker 2: support whoever the GOP nominates.
- 22:56Speaker 10: Yeah, that's the nature of the process, right and so absolutely,
- 23:00Speaker 10: But Helpe, it's the other way around.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I hope they're all supporting you, right. Are you going
- 23:06Speaker 2: to be having a party tonight?
- 23:07Speaker 10: We will be at Kick and Chicken there on Coleman
- 23:10Speaker 10: Boulevard in there in Mount Pleasant N Street from where
- 23:13Speaker 10: I live, and.
- 23:13Speaker 2: They should bring their own bottle. You have done a
- 23:18Speaker 2: great job of marketing. I think in this campaign. The
- 23:22Speaker 2: Sanford for Senate signs were brilliant. I thought the truck
- 23:26Speaker 2: was fantastic. Some mixed reviews, I thought on the pigs.
- 23:28Speaker 2: How did you think the pigs thing went?
- 23:30Speaker 10: Well, you know, they've been mixed reviews on that from
- 23:32Speaker 10: day one. That's right, you know, go back to you know,
- 23:36Speaker 10: basically twenty years ago when I originally did that. But
- 23:38Speaker 10: I think there's something to be taken away from that,
- 23:40Speaker 10: and that is I think that you want in Washington
- 23:44Speaker 10: somebody with that measure of resolve and measure commitment and
- 23:48Speaker 10: going the extra mile and watching it out for your pocketbook.
- 23:51Speaker 7: Or your wallet.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Well, Mark Sandford, I think you've done a great job
- 23:53Speaker 2: in the campaign. I wish you all the best tonight,
- 23:56Speaker 2: and hopefully we'll get you back on maybe in a
- 23:58Speaker 2: runoff here in the next couple of week.
- 24:00Speaker 10: We'll soon see.
- 24:01Speaker 2: All right, there's the former governor, and I just got
- 24:03Speaker 2: an email from Kevin in Charleston says the reason Charleston
- 24:07Speaker 2: County voting has been so low is because the only
- 24:10Speaker 2: place to vote was downtown Charleston. No one was going
- 24:13Speaker 2: down there. Big turnout come Tuesday. So we'll see if
- 24:16Speaker 2: he's correct.
- 24:17Speaker 1: If you're listening to South Carolina This Morning News.
- 24:20Speaker 2: All right, Kelly Nash here, Christopher Thompson and I came
- 24:23Speaker 2: on the air, and the first thing you brought up
- 24:24Speaker 2: was the Trafalgar Pole. That kind of lined up exactly
- 24:28Speaker 2: with the resonance a residence poll from yesterday. As far
- 24:31Speaker 2: as Darlene Graham having a seven point lead over who's
- 24:37Speaker 2: going to be number two, the big difference is in
- 24:41Speaker 2: this poll Sanford and Fry are within the margin of
- 24:45Speaker 2: error with Ralph.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Norman at number two.
- 24:48Speaker 2: So it could be according to this poll Sandford, Fry
- 24:51Speaker 2: or Norman coming in second tonight.
- 24:53Speaker 6: Kelly, I think all the polls are indicating that is
- 24:56Speaker 6: your big four, and the question is if it goes
- 25:00Speaker 6: to a runoff, it appears to be Darling Graham who
- 25:03Speaker 6: will be her opponent.
- 25:04Speaker 2: But you know, I'm excited to see how the polls
- 25:07Speaker 2: with what we see tonight, because when you looked at
- 25:10Speaker 2: the residance pole yesterday we saw I think it was
- 25:13Speaker 2: a six point difference.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Norman was ahead by six in that pole. My goodness.
- 25:19Speaker 5: Well, it depends on who gets out the vote today.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Exactly, big, big, big revelations tonight. All right, speaking of
- 25:26Speaker 2: the candidates, Russell Fry supposed to be joined by him
- 25:28Speaker 2: just after seven on South Carolina's Morning.
- 25:31Speaker 1: News, your news, traffic, weather and information stations. This is
- 25:37Speaker 1: South Carolina's Morning News on one O three point five FM,
- 25:41Speaker 1: five sixty AM WVOC and ninety four to three WSC.
- 25:46Speaker 2: All Right, good morning Midlands, good morning Low Country.
- 25:49Speaker 3: On the phone.
- 25:50Speaker 2: The guy who's got to be thrilled with the new
- 25:52Speaker 2: polling that came out, Russell Fry, Good morning.
- 25:55Speaker 7: Sir, good Morning's great to be on the show and
- 25:58Speaker 7: thanks for having me.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Man.
- 26:00Speaker 2: This is the Trafalgar poll that dropped last night. Uh
- 26:04Speaker 2: puts you within well within the margin of air. You
- 26:08Speaker 2: and Mark Sandford are both within the margin of era
- 26:10Speaker 2: of Ralph Norman for the number two spot right now.
- 26:14Speaker 2: The polling the day previous had you back I think
- 26:17Speaker 2: like five points or something like that. So this is
- 26:20Speaker 2: apparently the momentum is picking up for Russell Fry.
- 26:24Speaker 7: Yeah. Look, we're seeing late you know, we're seeing people
- 26:27Speaker 7: break our way. I think that, but I think Kelly,
- 26:29Speaker 7: I mean, it's lights out. I've felt this on the
- 26:32Speaker 7: ground for a long time. And some of the polling
- 26:35Speaker 7: I'd say maybe ten days ago. You know, like that's
- 26:38Speaker 7: not where it's at, Like instinctively in your gut, you
- 26:41Speaker 7: just knew with the energy the people who were showed
- 26:44Speaker 7: up to events. Look, I've done thirty events in about
- 26:46Speaker 7: ten days. I mean, we have been lights out across
- 26:49Speaker 7: the state as fast as we possibly can. But there's
- 26:52Speaker 7: a real, uh, there's a real energy behind, you know,
- 26:56Speaker 7: a new conservative voice, a new conservative day, somebody who
- 27:01Speaker 7: is focused on the economics of the kitchen table, who
- 27:05Speaker 7: wants to help families. Look, I didn't grow up as
- 27:08Speaker 7: much I know how this feels like it just uh
- 27:12Speaker 7: and and having a candidate will to not just highlight
- 27:15Speaker 7: the issues and use the buzzwords like affordability, but who
- 27:19Speaker 7: talk about meaningful conservative policy that you can do benefit
- 27:24Speaker 7: your family, right, I mean that you need more affordable
- 27:27Speaker 7: energy that lower your lowers your power bills, that you
- 27:30Speaker 7: need a tax climate that UH is better, that's more
- 27:34Speaker 7: supportive of families that you need, somebody that's that's watching
- 27:38Speaker 7: out for our core values and and and beating back
- 27:42Speaker 7: in every which way possible. Uh, this government overreach on
- 27:45Speaker 7: our faith, in our daily lives, the regulatory regime that's
- 27:48Speaker 7: strangling our businesses, some of the some of the easy
- 27:51Speaker 7: ways that you can you can tackle that and get
- 27:54Speaker 7: the government out of the way. This is all part
- 27:56Speaker 7: and parcel to you know, a common sense of jet
- 28:00Speaker 7: that will absolutely deliver, you know, relief to the middle class.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Talking with Russell Fry tonight, we're going to find out
- 28:07Speaker 2: how how it all turns out. Are you a couple
- 28:11Speaker 2: of questions I've been asking all the candidates. First, are
- 28:13Speaker 2: you having a party that the general publics could come
- 28:16Speaker 2: to UH to watch with you?
- 28:18Speaker 7: No, we're saving everything for post runoffs. Today we assume
- 28:22Speaker 7: we would be in a runoff. We knew that we
- 28:24Speaker 7: were gonna, you know, be right there, and so we're
- 28:27Speaker 7: kind of huddled. We know that the just the way
- 28:29Speaker 7: that how tired it's been, it's been that tight for
- 28:31Speaker 7: a couple of days on our internals that we'd probably
- 28:34Speaker 7: be waiting up till you know, midnight for the final
- 28:37Speaker 7: results that may come down to a couple of handful
- 28:39Speaker 7: of votes. And uh, and I wanted to make sure
- 28:43Speaker 7: that we were putting all of the resources that have
- 28:45Speaker 7: been donated not to a you know, a preemptive party,
- 28:49Speaker 7: but getting out the vote for the runoffs coming up
- 28:52Speaker 7: in two weeks. So I'm going to be in Columbia,
- 28:54Speaker 7: not not at the beach, but we'll be to impress
- 28:57Speaker 7: all the way through and uh, just make sure we're
- 29:00Speaker 7: getting everything ready for another two weeks.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Sprint all right, and Russell Fryes on the phone with
- 29:06Speaker 2: us as it gets ready for the election today. Another question,
- 29:10Speaker 2: it's I've been asking all the candidates this, but it's
- 29:12Speaker 2: been particularly chippy between you and Darlene Graham. But whoever
- 29:18Speaker 2: wins the primary ultimately, because we're probably heading to a
- 29:22Speaker 2: two week runoff. Whether it's you were obviously you'll support yourself,
- 29:25Speaker 2: but if it was somebody else, are you gonna are
- 29:27Speaker 2: you willing to commit to commit? You know, I am
- 29:30Speaker 2: supporting whoever the GOP nominates.
- 29:33Speaker 7: Yeah, look, I mean I'm a conservative at heart. This
- 29:35Speaker 7: is and I've done this since you know, since uh,
- 29:38Speaker 7: you know, for a long time is that you know,
- 29:41Speaker 7: sometimes you got a little family squabble, right like this
- 29:43Speaker 7: happens at a Thanksgiving dinner, But you come around, you
- 29:47Speaker 7: gather around and you make sure that you support your nominee.
- 29:50Speaker 7: It's a it's a team sport. Uh. And you know
- 29:53Speaker 7: where we are in a country. But the radical Left
- 29:56Speaker 7: is absolutely coming after you know the foundation of this country,
- 30:02Speaker 7: you see it and the people they're nominating. So we
- 30:04Speaker 7: don't have a lot of time, and we don't have
- 30:06Speaker 7: a lot of wasted energy that we can spend on
- 30:10Speaker 7: being mad or disgruntles. I think we all have to
- 30:14Speaker 7: come together. I think about the movie three hundred right
- 30:16Speaker 7: where where the Spartans, the three hundred Spartans are kind
- 30:20Speaker 7: of withstanding the hordes of the Persians. I mean, this
- 30:23Speaker 7: is kind of what's coming at us right now with
- 30:26Speaker 7: the Left, and so we got a band together. We
- 30:28Speaker 7: have to we have to close ranks and make sure
- 30:30Speaker 7: that we support each other.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Fantastic stuff, Russell Fry. So, any final thoughts as people
- 30:36Speaker 2: are heading out to the polls. The polls just opened
- 30:38Speaker 2: a few moments ago. Is they head out between now
- 30:41Speaker 2: and seven pm tonight? Any final thoughts from the Fry campaign.
- 30:45Speaker 7: Yeah. Absolutely, Look I'm in it to win it. And
- 30:48Speaker 7: I think when you when you look at this race
- 30:50Speaker 7: and how important is think about the foundation of this country.
- 30:54Speaker 7: We serve about two hundred and fifty years this incredible
- 30:57Speaker 7: American experiment, and the path before us is are we
- 31:02Speaker 7: going to go down the slow, deteriorating role of socialism?
- 31:06Speaker 7: Are we going to go down into a system of
- 31:09Speaker 7: government that replaces God with government that destroys the middle class?
- 31:14Speaker 7: That's what we have to do. We owe it to
- 31:16Speaker 7: our forefathers to think about this moment and what has
- 31:20Speaker 7: already made us great, which is our faith, our appreciation
- 31:23Speaker 7: is here is to free enterprise, our conservative values. These
- 31:27Speaker 7: are the things that have made us a truly great nation.
- 31:31Speaker 7: And what Washington needs right now is a fight or
- 31:34Speaker 7: somebody in the arena, not somebody who just goes and
- 31:37Speaker 7: pushes a button. And they might talk on the news
- 31:39Speaker 7: and they might sound good, but who is in the
- 31:41Speaker 7: trenches every day pushing and who has delivered results. I've
- 31:45Speaker 7: done that. I don't just go up to Washington and
- 31:48Speaker 7: sit around and vote the right way. We've got a
- 31:51Speaker 7: very conservative record, very conservative by all accounts. We're voting
- 31:56Speaker 7: the right way and have been for years, but it's
- 31:59Speaker 7: not enough. People want battle tested warriors to get the
- 32:03Speaker 7: job done too.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Well, Russell fry best elect tonight. If you're fortunate enough
- 32:06Speaker 2: to make it into the runoff. Hopefully we'll be talking
- 32:08Speaker 2: to you over the next couple of weeks as we
- 32:10Speaker 2: lead up.
- 32:10Speaker 3: To the big day.
- 32:12Speaker 7: Yelly, thanks, thanks for doing this, and thanks for letting
- 32:15Speaker 7: candidates like us have a enter the marketplace of ideas.
- 32:19Speaker 7: It's important, all right.
- 32:20Speaker 2: We certainly appreciate you putting your hat into the ring,
- 32:22Speaker 2: Russell Frye, and we will be talking with more candidates.
- 32:26Speaker 2: I think we should take a quick break right now
- 32:27Speaker 2: and be back with more on South Carolina's morning news from.
- 32:30Speaker 1: The Midlands to the low Country. This is South Carolina's
- 32:34Speaker 1: Morning News.
- 32:35Speaker 3: All right, so back to back.
- 32:36Speaker 2: We heard from Mark Sandford and we've heard from Russell Frye.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Coming up in just a moment, we're going to hear
- 32:42Speaker 2: from Ralph Norman.
- 32:43Speaker 5: Alad you heard from Mark Lynch.
- 32:45Speaker 2: We did hear from Mark Lynch as well, but I
- 32:48Speaker 2: specifically wanted to talk about Sanford and Frye and Ralph
- 32:53Speaker 2: Norman because according to the Trafalgar poll that came out
- 32:57Speaker 2: those three are within the margin of error. So Norman
- 33:01Speaker 2: at nineteen point five, Fry at eighteen point four, Sandford
- 33:05Speaker 2: at eighteen point three. And I said, I reposted that
- 33:08Speaker 2: and said, it's going to be interesting to see how
- 33:09Speaker 2: tonight's seven point lee for Graham holds up, because she's
- 33:12Speaker 2: at seven points in both the Trafalgar and the Resonance poll.
- 33:15Speaker 2: But it's the Trafalger poll that's scot. I mean, it's
- 33:19Speaker 2: a world of difference as to who could be number two.
- 33:22Speaker 2: And when I posted it, a guy named Steve Michael,
- 33:26Speaker 2: who I don't know that if I've met Steve. He
- 33:28Speaker 2: is the president of Victory Enterprises, all right, So he said,
- 33:32Speaker 2: I love the way he wrote this, Christopher, this gets me.
- 33:34Speaker 2: It's kind of like, you know, my first love was sports.
- 33:38Speaker 2: You got to live my dream by the way, and
- 33:41Speaker 2: then and then I fell in love with politics. But
- 33:44Speaker 2: politics is a lot like sports. Except in politics, when
- 33:46Speaker 2: you're listening to news talk radio as opposed to sports
- 33:49Speaker 2: talk radio, you actually can have an impact on the
- 33:52Speaker 2: final results of the game.
- 33:54Speaker 3: The only time I can impact the game, Cocks.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Is like when I'm screaming when the other team has
- 33:57Speaker 2: the ball to try to get off sides so year,
- 34:00Speaker 2: he says could be any of the three. This is
- 34:03Speaker 2: Steve Michael's analysis of that thing. Sandford has surged and
- 34:06Speaker 2: gone unattached or I guess I think he meant unattacked
- 34:10Speaker 2: till Graham ran some streaming digital attacks over the weekend.
- 34:15Speaker 2: I would see those. I don't know about those. But
- 34:17Speaker 2: then it says fry and Norman's districts have overperformed in
- 34:21Speaker 2: early voting.
- 34:22Speaker 6: Yeah, we talked about how there was a surgeon York,
- 34:25Speaker 6: there was a surgeon or County. Those are two big
- 34:28Speaker 6: places for Ralph Norman and Russell Frye, respectively.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Where does Greenville Spartanburg turn? Does Lynch cut into Norman's
- 34:36Speaker 2: base vote? Does Sandford get more of the Midlands vote
- 34:40Speaker 2: share than had been expected? Do the or put or county? Oh,
- 34:46Speaker 2: I guess he meant to put or like h O
- 34:47Speaker 2: R Ry, But it's O RI I here counties. Maybe
- 34:50Speaker 2: I'm misinterpreting it show up today, it's or maybe meant
- 34:54Speaker 2: to put other counties, but he does. And it's a
- 34:56Speaker 2: nail bier. It is a nail biterer.
- 34:58Speaker 6: It is and it it sounds simplistic to say, oh,
- 35:01Speaker 6: it's It all depends on vote turnout. But that is
- 35:04Speaker 6: exactly what this is going to come down to. Throw
- 35:06Speaker 6: the polls out If if people are dissuaded by the
- 35:09Speaker 6: fact that they can't get to their normal polling place
- 35:12Speaker 6: and just turn around and go to work instead. I mean,
- 35:16Speaker 6: it's going to be key as to who actually gets
- 35:18Speaker 6: out the vote. That's why you get all those texts
- 35:20Speaker 6: last night, That's why we get all the mailers in
- 35:22Speaker 6: the last couple of days, because these candidates are desperate
- 35:26Speaker 6: for every vote they can get.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, it's.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Like it's like it's like Carolina Clemson. We're leading into
- 35:32Speaker 2: the huge game and it's a Some are saying this way,
- 35:35Speaker 2: some are saying that.
- 35:36Speaker 6: Way, and we need to give out that to the
- 35:39Speaker 6: website again. Sc votes dot gov.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Yeah, you gotta there.
- 35:42Speaker 6: Need to double check your polling place to know for
- 35:45Speaker 6: sure where you're going before you go vote.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Great point, Christopher, And it only takes a moment. I
- 35:50Speaker 2: mean I think I did it last night in less
- 35:51Speaker 2: than one minute. Yeah, So se votes dot gov correct,
- 35:56Speaker 2: Do not go to the dot COM's or the dot whatevers,
- 35:59Speaker 2: it's dot gov. And then again, sixty seconds or less,
- 36:02Speaker 2: you'll know exactly where your polling station is because a
- 36:04Speaker 2: lot of polling has moved based off of being the
- 36:06Speaker 2: first day of school in so many districts today.
- 36:09Speaker 3: We got a lot going on, all right.
- 36:11Speaker 2: So, like you said, we have talked to Russell Frye,
- 36:14Speaker 2: we have talked to Sandford, We did talk to Lynch,
- 36:15Speaker 2: and the people were wondering, is you got to cut
- 36:17Speaker 2: into Ralph Norman's base tonight? Man, We got We haven't
- 36:20Speaker 2: spoken to Ralph Norman yet. We will speak with Ralph
- 36:23Speaker 2: Norman next on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 36:25Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's Morning News on one O three
- 36:28Speaker 1: five FM and five sixty AM WVOC, Columbia and ninety
- 36:33Speaker 1: four to three WSC Charleston.
- 36:36Speaker 2: We've already spoken with Mark Lynch, Mark Sanford, and Russell Frye, who,
- 36:41Speaker 2: according to the latest polls, are all nipping at the
- 36:44Speaker 2: heels of this man, Ralph Norman, Ralph Norman, Good morning.
- 36:49Speaker 11: Good morning, Kelly, great.
- 36:51Speaker 7: To be with you.
- 36:51Speaker 2: This is this is what it all comes down to.
- 36:54Speaker 2: How are we feeling on this big election day?
- 36:57Speaker 11: Yeah, Kelly, I feel real good. You know, most of
- 36:59Speaker 11: the poet have us leading. It's what's different about this
- 37:03Speaker 11: race is it's really hard to poll because you don't
- 37:05Speaker 11: know what the turnout it's going to be. But I've
- 37:07Speaker 11: been been encouraged by people that are calling asking you
- 37:12Speaker 11: know where we'll be, and that they were voting and
- 37:15Speaker 11: phone calls being made, so I feel good about it.
- 37:17Speaker 11: We'll know at probably eight o'clock to night.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Do you expect the runoff?
- 37:22Speaker 7: Oh yeah, but.
- 37:23Speaker 11: Nine people in it, it'd be all So we'll have
- 37:26Speaker 11: two more weeks of it and we'll be all over
- 37:28Speaker 11: the state selling our message.
- 37:30Speaker 2: The speculation has been that you have spent a little
- 37:32Speaker 2: bit less money in this general campaign and that you're
- 37:36Speaker 2: really kind of saving your powder, so to speak, for
- 37:38Speaker 2: the runoff. Has that kind of been the strategy so
- 37:40Speaker 2: far for the Norman campaign.
- 37:42Speaker 11: Well, you know, we spent a good bit of money
- 37:44Speaker 11: in the governor's race, and a lot of money we
- 37:46Speaker 11: spent kind of plowed the ground of getting our name
- 37:48Speaker 11: out in the state, and which we did. We really
- 37:51Speaker 11: expected to be in the runoff, So yes, we'll see
- 37:54Speaker 11: what it feels we'll play in, but I'm excited about it.
- 37:58Speaker 2: So we should all be expecting direct mail pieces pretty
- 38:00Speaker 2: soon from a Ralph Norman campaign.
- 38:03Speaker 11: I was going to say we're locked and loaded for
- 38:04Speaker 11: the two week stretch.
- 38:05Speaker 2: As people are heading to the polls today and hopefully
- 38:08Speaker 2: they're all turning out. I've noticed that Charleston County, you know,
- 38:11Speaker 2: which we're on at ninety four to three WSC, that
- 38:14Speaker 2: market to Berkeley and Dorchester has been shockingly low turnouts
- 38:18Speaker 2: in the early voting, So they got a lot to
- 38:20Speaker 2: make up for here in the next few hours. But
- 38:22Speaker 2: whether they're in the low Country or in the Midlands
- 38:25Speaker 2: listening this morning, any final message from the Norman.
- 38:28Speaker 11: Campaign, Well, we're looking to pick a Senator for the
- 38:32Speaker 11: next six years, and I'm the only true conservative. This
- 38:35Speaker 11: is kind of record that I'm proud of. I've been
- 38:38Speaker 11: successful in the business arena, and I won't take what
- 38:40Speaker 11: I've done in Congress to expand it. The Senate has
- 38:44Speaker 11: been the cemetery for good bills that just get turned down,
- 38:49Speaker 11: watered down, or stop. But there's nothing more important than
- 38:52Speaker 11: the Save America Act. I tend to do whatever I can,
- 38:55Speaker 11: and including Newt the Filibus, if that's what it takes
- 38:58Speaker 11: to get it past. Got to stop a Senate from
- 39:01Speaker 11: stopping good legislation, that's be mere right now.
- 39:04Speaker 2: I think that I know everybody here it would support
- 39:07Speaker 2: whoever won on the GOP side.
- 39:09Speaker 3: Is that correct?
- 39:10Speaker 11: Absolutely? You know, I told the any of the candidates
- 39:13Speaker 11: that I'm running against the enemy is not the Republican Canada.
- 39:16Speaker 11: Is a socialist doctor Annie that will be running against.
- 39:20Speaker 11: And the whole agenda is bad for this country. We've
- 39:22Speaker 11: got to stop the agenda.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Nice to see you with the unifying message here. And unfortunately,
- 39:27Speaker 2: when we get into primary season, we get a lot
- 39:29Speaker 2: of hurt feelings, especially amongst the voters. They seem the
- 39:31Speaker 2: ones that take it the hardest. The candidates realize we're
- 39:34Speaker 2: playing here for votes, but some of the voters take
- 39:36Speaker 2: it pretty hard when their favorite candidates are attacked. You.
- 39:39Speaker 11: When you enter the political arena, you either win or
- 39:42Speaker 11: you lose, and so it's a reality. But I'm just
- 39:44Speaker 11: I'm thankful that I got the opportunity, and I'm thankful
- 39:46Speaker 11: that our message, I think is resonated, and I'll be
- 39:50Speaker 11: pleased to go to I do think we'll all end
- 39:52Speaker 11: up going to the Senate and look forward to serving.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Currently Congressman Ralph Norman looking forward to possibly having you
- 39:58Speaker 2: back on as we get into to a runoff here,
- 40:01Speaker 2: best of luck tonight. Where are you going to be tonight?
- 40:02Speaker 2: You got a party going on.
- 40:04Speaker 11: I'll be at Hobos on Cherry Road and rock Hill,
- 40:06Speaker 11: South Carolina, top floor.
- 40:08Speaker 2: All right, everybody who was a Ralph Norman fan, you
- 40:10Speaker 2: could head on up there and be a part of
- 40:11Speaker 2: the party. And thank you for making time for South
- 40:14Speaker 2: Carolina's morning news.
- 40:15Speaker 11: My pleasure, Thank you lot.
- 40:16Speaker 3: All right.
- 40:17Speaker 2: We've heard from pretty much all of them, not quite
- 40:20Speaker 2: all of them, but we got most.
- 40:21Speaker 6: Of them, Christopher, Yes, and we've given some restaurants and
- 40:24Speaker 6: some bars some free publicity while we're at it.
- 40:27Speaker 3: You know, if you're a fan.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Of these politicians, but it's an awesome opportunity for you
- 40:32Speaker 2: to spend some.
- 40:32Speaker 3: Time with them tonight.
- 40:33Speaker 6: Absolutely, and they may they may need your support, or
- 40:36Speaker 6: they may be celebrating and it may be the greatest
- 40:38Speaker 6: party you've ever attended.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Or maybe a shoulder to cry on, who knows either way.
- 40:43Speaker 6: Interesting that Russell Fry is not holding one of those
- 40:45Speaker 6: events tonight. He will be in Columbia counting votes with
- 40:48Speaker 6: family and friends, but he is not holding a victory party.
- 40:51Speaker 6: He said he's saving all that for after the runoff.
- 40:54Speaker 2: That is a good point Christopher Thompson always bringing the.
- 40:58Speaker 3: The Folcus back to where it needs to be.
- 41:00Speaker 2: All right, So we've got that, we've got the the
- 41:02Speaker 2: we've heard from all the candidates. But again, the point
- 41:06Speaker 2: that you were making earlier, Christopher, needs to be re emphasized.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Go to sc votes dot gov because a lot of
- 41:13Speaker 2: the polling stations have been moved just for today, and
- 41:18Speaker 2: so if you want to know where you got to vote,
- 41:19Speaker 2: that's where that's where you need to go. So it
- 41:21Speaker 2: takes less than sixty seconds. But please get out and vote.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Be a part of this democracy that we live in.
- 41:26Speaker 2: And coming up next, we're gonna have more of our
- 41:28Speaker 2: conversation with our Treasury Secretary Scott Bessont on South Carolina's Morning.
- 41:33Speaker 1: News live from the state Capitol. This is South Carolina's
- 41:37Speaker 1: Morning News.
- 41:39Speaker 2: And yesterday you probably heard in the news that the
- 41:42Speaker 2: Joint based Charleston renamed Joint Base. Lindsey Graham and Pete
- 41:46Speaker 2: Haigseth was in town, and Darlene Graham was there, and
- 41:49Speaker 2: so was the Governor Henry McMaster. A lot of people
- 41:53Speaker 2: in town for this. Nancy Mace was there, but also
- 41:58Speaker 2: was the Treasury Secretary, Scott Best in South Carolina native,
- 42:01Speaker 2: and he we're honored he chose our show to call into,
- 42:04Speaker 2: so we spoke to with him yesterday.
- 42:06Speaker 3: We played the.
- 42:06Speaker 2: First part of that earlier, but here's a little second,
- 42:10Speaker 2: a little more of the conversation that we had. This
- 42:12Speaker 2: is where we're asking about fraud because the Treasury is
- 42:15Speaker 2: really starting to attack fraud.
- 42:17Speaker 3: And how's that going.
- 42:18Speaker 4: It's going well. Vice President Vance, as you said, is
- 42:22Speaker 4: leading an all hands on deck, all branches of government effort.
- 42:26Speaker 4: And I tell you, Kelly, this is a mess. It
- 42:28Speaker 4: could be over five hundred billion dollars in fraud every year.
- 42:33Speaker 4: And look way in the US we are a high
- 42:36Speaker 4: trust society. We want to take care of our citizens,
- 42:41Speaker 4: but there are predators who are stealing from the people
- 42:45Speaker 4: who are supposed to get the money, stealing from the taxpayers,
- 42:49Speaker 4: and that money could either be going to pay down
- 42:51Speaker 4: the debt or to the people it's meant for. And
- 42:56Speaker 4: if everyone out there, I encourage your listener to demand
- 43:01Speaker 4: transparency in government. Minnesota was a mess, but there was
- 43:05Speaker 4: a level of transparency so that young man could go
- 43:12Speaker 4: to all the different daycare centers and see that there
- 43:15Speaker 4: was no one there. You could go to all the
- 43:17Speaker 4: senior centers, transportation centers and see that no one was
- 43:20Speaker 4: getting transported. I was out in Minnesota a couple of
- 43:24Speaker 4: months ago, and I'll tell you it was heartbreaking because
- 43:27Speaker 4: for some of these autism centers that were supposed to
- 43:30Speaker 4: be getting the money, the parents told these heartbreaking stories
- 43:33Speaker 4: that they weren't getting the money for the centers because
- 43:37Speaker 4: of the waste, fraud.
- 43:38Speaker 7: And abuse.
- 43:39Speaker 4: And what we are trying to do differently is to
- 43:42Speaker 4: keep the money from going out in the first place,
- 43:44Speaker 4: because once it's out, it is very, very hard to recover.
- 43:48Speaker 4: So here at Treasury, we've established the do not pay system.
- 43:52Speaker 4: We are now able to match against people who have
- 43:56Speaker 4: passed away because that's a big portion of the fraud.
- 44:00Speaker 2: So yeah, I was shocked that that's almost one hundred
- 44:02Speaker 2: million dollars that you guys have already caught going to
- 44:04Speaker 2: dead people.
- 44:05Speaker 4: Yes.
- 44:06Speaker 7: Yes.
- 44:07Speaker 4: And the other thing too is for your listeners, we
- 44:10Speaker 4: now for program. It's kind of like a suitcase applying
- 44:14Speaker 4: by itself at the airport. We call it. If you
- 44:17Speaker 4: see something, say something, go to Treasury dot gov and
- 44:21Speaker 4: if you give us a tip that leads to a recovery,
- 44:25Speaker 4: we're able to pay a reward for that help.
- 44:29Speaker 3: Wow, that is fantastic. So everybody says that they've seen.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Some fraud the other report something, say something Treasury dot Gov.
- 44:36Speaker 3: Yousay, yes, sir outstanding.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Well, I know that you're in a hurry and you've
- 44:41Speaker 2: got places to go, and you're so busy and so
- 44:43Speaker 2: kind to make some time for us here in South Carolina.
- 44:45Speaker 2: It was awesome to have you visiting the low country again.
- 44:48Speaker 2: And maybe in retirement you'll get to spend some more
- 44:51Speaker 2: time kicking back on the side ports there watching the
- 44:53Speaker 2: C seventeen's.
- 44:54Speaker 4: Well, and they will all stay joint based Graham on them.
- 44:57Speaker 4: I think they're going to probably start repainting them the
- 45:00Speaker 4: Wow and for the rest of the president's term. As
- 45:03Speaker 4: I travel around the world and I see our great
- 45:07Speaker 4: pilots from the base there, I will see Senator Graham's
- 45:11Speaker 4: name on the tail, whether it's in Asia, whether it's
- 45:15Speaker 4: in Europe, whether it's in Africa. And as I said,
- 45:19Speaker 4: he was a small town kid from central South Carolina
- 45:23Speaker 4: who made a big impression on the world.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Well, you were a kid from Conway who did pretty
- 45:28Speaker 2: well for himself as well.
- 45:30Speaker 4: Well, Conway was a big city. I was born in Conway.
- 45:32Speaker 4: I grew up on Little River. Conway's a gateway to
- 45:37Speaker 4: Myrtle Beach.
- 45:40Speaker 2: Well, Scott Besson, thank you so much again for your time.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Hopefully you'll come back and join us soon.
- 45:44Speaker 4: Good. I look forward to it, all.
- 45:46Speaker 2: Right, Scott Besson, born in the gateway to Myrtle Beach
- 45:52Speaker 2: and thrilled to have him on. By the way, Christopher Thompson,
- 45:54Speaker 2: I just looked it up. If you, again, you don't
- 45:58Speaker 2: have to know for a fact that there's from happening,
- 46:00Speaker 2: but if you suspect it, if you suspect that there's
- 46:03Speaker 2: somebody ripping the federal government off, you can go to
- 46:06Speaker 2: Treasury dot gov and it says whistleblowers right there. I
- 46:10Speaker 2: just read, just look this up. Eligible tipsters can receive
- 46:13Speaker 2: between ten and thirty percent of the monetary sections collection.
- 46:18Speaker 5: Wow. I mean this is Nick Suirley eligible, the independent journalist.
- 46:24Speaker 2: I'm guessing I don't know. I mean, he does travel
- 46:26Speaker 2: a lot, and I wonder who's paying for that. Maybe
- 46:28Speaker 2: it's some of the reward money that he's gotten in
- 46:30Speaker 2: the past.
- 46:30Speaker 3: But that is fan.
- 46:32Speaker 5: We've all got skin in that game.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Absolutely and again, one hundred million dollars last year went
- 46:37Speaker 2: to dead people in America.
- 46:39Speaker 3: That is outrageous.
- 46:41Speaker 2: So so happy that the federal government, under not only
- 46:44Speaker 2: Donald Trump, but our vice president and obviously the Treasury
- 46:47Speaker 2: Secretary are clamping down on fraud. Okay, more to get
- 46:50Speaker 2: to This is South Carolina's morning news.
- 46:53Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's morning news.
- 46:56Speaker 3: All right.
- 46:56Speaker 2: So the national website, just the news, that's John Solomon's site.
- 47:02Speaker 2: He has a national story today about does Trump's endorsement
- 47:06Speaker 2: mean what it used to mean in South Carolina? And
- 47:09Speaker 2: that's one of those questions that I think even South
- 47:11Speaker 2: Carolinians are asking themselves.
- 47:13Speaker 3: Christopher.
- 47:13Speaker 6: It's a great question, especially with what we just went
- 47:16Speaker 6: through with the governor's election. The fact that Trump endorsed
- 47:19Speaker 6: Pamela Ebitt early, well not as early as Pamela Ebitt
- 47:22Speaker 6: would have liked, but or.
- 47:24Speaker 2: Some people had thought just looking at the TV.
- 47:26Speaker 6: As true, but finally did endorse her and then read
- 47:29Speaker 6: the tea leaves and came out with a co endorsement
- 47:32Speaker 6: of the eventual winner, Alan Wilson on the Republican side.
- 47:35Speaker 6: Same thing here, Kelly, we keep hearing the same thing
- 47:39Speaker 6: that we heard with Pamela EVIITTT. But I think it's
- 47:41Speaker 6: a little louder with Darlene Graham, and that is wait
- 47:45Speaker 6: a minute, mister president, this is local politics, and we
- 47:47Speaker 6: feel like she's being shoved down our throats.
- 47:50Speaker 5: We don't know her.
- 47:51Speaker 3: Well at just the News.
- 47:52Speaker 2: They took a unique angle, I think, in that they
- 47:54Speaker 2: basically just interviewed college age students who actually volunteer for
- 48:00Speaker 2: these types of campaigns.
- 48:01Speaker 6: These are the people who do all the legwork on
- 48:03Speaker 6: these campaigns. I mean, you've got people sitting around making
- 48:06Speaker 6: the major decisions, but as far as putting up the
- 48:08Speaker 6: signs and all the physical work, a lot of it
- 48:11Speaker 6: is done by these college kids.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Yeah, they were talking to some Clemson students, and I
- 48:16Speaker 2: guess Clemson college Republicans had come out in front for
- 48:20Speaker 2: Alan Wilson originally, but they were some of those Clemson
- 48:24Speaker 2: students were saying, had no interest in the president's decision.
- 48:27Speaker 2: Doesn't matter who he endorses, we don't care. But then
- 48:30Speaker 2: you got some University of South Carolina students who were saying, yeah, no,
- 48:33Speaker 2: his endorsement of Darling Graham moved me. That's why I
- 48:36Speaker 2: went with her. You've got an interesting analogy here that
- 48:41Speaker 2: he has more impact on lower rank or lower profile races,
- 48:45Speaker 2: and they point to Jenny Costa Honeycutt, who ends up
- 48:49Speaker 2: winning the first congressional district. They say that she was
- 48:53Speaker 2: propelled by Donald Trump's endorsement. So I'm not sure what
- 48:57Speaker 2: they're basing that off of it. You know how they
- 48:59Speaker 2: can actually track that, But it's an interesting concept. And
- 49:02Speaker 2: if you have thoughts on that, does the president's endorsement
- 49:05Speaker 2: mean something to you? You can let us know how.
- 49:07Speaker 2: The talkback feature off the iHeartRadio app. It is seven
- 49:10Speaker 2: forty six on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 49:12Speaker 1: You are listening to South Carolina This Morning News.
- 49:16Speaker 2: I've got mixed emotions, Christopher mixed emotions. Donald Trump tweets
- 49:21Speaker 2: out great news for our country. Supreme Court Justice Samuel
- 49:24Speaker 2: Alito has announced he's staying for another term. He is
- 49:27Speaker 2: one of the greatest of all time. We are all lucky.
- 49:31Speaker 2: I agree that Samuel Alito has been a Supreme Supreme
- 49:36Speaker 2: Court Justice, Mike, but here's my conflict.
- 49:41Speaker 3: He is seventy six years of age.
- 49:43Speaker 2: I understand that we're most right now again, sitting here
- 49:48Speaker 2: on August the eleventh, it seems as if the Senate
- 49:54Speaker 2: is going to remain in Republican hands. That is not assured,
- 49:57Speaker 2: though true. If he was to bow out right now,
- 50:00Speaker 2: we could flip flop it, get it swapped it. We
- 50:03Speaker 2: can get a brand new forty five year old version
- 50:06Speaker 2: of Samuel Alito be there for twenty through thirty years.
- 50:10Speaker 5: Now.
- 50:10Speaker 2: If we don't hold the Senate, then he's got to
- 50:13Speaker 2: stay on at least two more years. And then what
- 50:16Speaker 2: if you don't get a Republican president in two and
- 50:20Speaker 2: a half years from now, then he's got to hang
- 50:24Speaker 2: on for six more years. He'll be like eighty two,
- 50:27Speaker 2: eighty three years old. I kind of wish he'd retired.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Any thoughts on that, Christopher.
- 50:32Speaker 6: Oh, I was just looking to see. I couldn't remember it.
- 50:35Speaker 6: But because we went back to the Brett Kavanaugh hearings,
- 50:38Speaker 6: and you know who pushed Brett Kavanaugh through Lindsey Graham.
- 50:41Speaker 5: That's right, Lindsey Graham's no longer. They're correct.
- 50:43Speaker 6: Chuck Grassley's the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
- 50:46Speaker 2: Now he's he's pushing Mitch McConnell.
- 50:50Speaker 6: He exactly, he's getting up there. His vacuum died the
- 50:53Speaker 6: other day and we saw a whole series of posts
- 50:55Speaker 6: on that.
- 50:57Speaker 3: He does like to.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Pick Coorn too. I've seen a lot of video just
- 51:00Speaker 2: talk about as Cornfield.
- 51:02Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I agree with you, Kelly.
- 51:03Speaker 6: It would probably be much easier in the next few
- 51:05Speaker 6: months to push push through a candidate for the Supreme
- 51:08Speaker 6: Court than our nominee than it would be, say, six
- 51:11Speaker 6: months from now.
- 51:12Speaker 2: And again just a reminder, the Senate only needs fifty
- 51:15Speaker 2: one votes to get the Supreme Court just it's not
- 51:17Speaker 2: like a bill where you have to make a you know,
- 51:19Speaker 2: blow up the whole filibuster.
- 51:21Speaker 3: Thing and all that. If you get the fifty one,
- 51:23Speaker 3: you got him in.
- 51:24Speaker 6: And it's supposed to be advised and consent. But you know,
- 51:26Speaker 6: we've seen that morphed into we approve or we don't approve.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Yes, team left, first team right, and so it again.
- 51:36Speaker 2: Do you think Trump is just trying to make the
- 51:37Speaker 2: best out of the situation.
- 51:39Speaker 6: That's all you can do if you're Donald Trump right now? Yeah,
- 51:41Speaker 6: I mean you can't say publicly, well, you know, I
- 51:44Speaker 6: wish you would have retired, and let's keep wishing until
- 51:46Speaker 6: you do it.
- 51:47Speaker 2: If anybody would have would have said it, it would
- 51:49Speaker 2: have been it would have been Donald Trump. Now, so
- 51:51Speaker 2: I have to believe that Donald Trump actually in his
- 51:54Speaker 2: heart of hearts is happy that Samuel Alito has stayed
- 51:56Speaker 2: on because otherwise, yeah, Bom, get out of here, get
- 52:00Speaker 2: up too much time. I could totally hear him saying
- 52:02Speaker 2: something along those lines. But again, you have Samuel Alito
- 52:05Speaker 2: at least for another term. We'll see what happens from here.
- 52:09Speaker 2: He's again seventy six years of age. And well, the
- 52:13Speaker 2: Supreme Court, we certainly need as many conservatives as possible
- 52:16Speaker 2: right now, at least till the DSA gets there and
- 52:19Speaker 2: then they make it what is it forty five people?
- 52:21Speaker 2: Is it one hundred and forty five? How many people
- 52:23Speaker 2: they went on the Supreme Court? Well, it depends on
- 52:24Speaker 2: who you talk to. Kamala Harris wants to pack the court.
- 52:27Speaker 2: DSA wants to abolish it. Oh, that's right, I forgot
- 52:30Speaker 2: you forget. It's thirteen for Kamala. Yes, it's none for
- 52:33Speaker 2: the DSA exactly. We don't need judiciary anymore. Samuel Alito
- 52:38Speaker 2: could be a part of the last Supreme Court we
- 52:40Speaker 2: ever have. My gosh, shut the lights off when you
- 52:43Speaker 2: leave there, Sam all right, it is seven fifty four.
- 52:46Speaker 2: Thanks for starting your day with South Carolina's morning news.
- 52:49Speaker 1: Your news, traffic, weather and Information stations. This is South
- 52:54Speaker 1: Carolina's morning news on one O three point five FM,
- 52:58Speaker 1: five sixty AM WV and ninety four to three WSC.
- 53:04Speaker 3: Well, that's great news for Asia.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Congratulations on the new sneakers and the Wheaties cover and
- 53:10Speaker 2: all that stuff. I mean that's some some big news
- 53:13Speaker 2: and happy to see that. I also see that Stephen Garcia,
- 53:17Speaker 2: speaking of the game Cock, has got to ring the
- 53:19Speaker 2: bell yesterday, So that's pretty huge. And now I don't
- 53:23Speaker 2: think that that means he's completely cured. I mean he's
- 53:26Speaker 2: gone through five of five chemo treatments, right, so I
- 53:31Speaker 2: guess his chemotherapy portion of the recovery for Stephen Garcia
- 53:35Speaker 2: has come to an end. So we're wishing him a
- 53:37Speaker 2: speedy recovery as well as he continues his battle. So
- 53:41Speaker 2: we got all that going on, and speaking of battles,
- 53:43Speaker 2: coming to the state House today, we've got a big
- 53:47Speaker 2: budget and I see one of the Freedom Caucus members,
- 53:50Speaker 2: Rob Harris, he's from the Upstate. He says, quote, I'm
- 53:54Speaker 2: voting no this record forty four point four billion dollar budget,
- 54:00Speaker 2: three hundred million in earmarks at one dollar placeholders, with
- 54:04Speaker 2: real spending punted to an unnamed, unscheduled committee, three hundred
- 54:10Speaker 2: and seventy eight million dollars sits, unappropriated, no transparency, no
- 54:15Speaker 2: line item veto, no accountability. The taxpayers of South Carolina
- 54:20Speaker 2: deserve better, thoughts.
- 54:22Speaker 6: Interesting now the Freedom Caucus is outnumbered, Yes, they are
- 54:26Speaker 6: within the State House. I wonder how many people will
- 54:30Speaker 6: take that point of view that they are. They're not
- 54:33Speaker 6: willing to let the Senate President and the House Speaker
- 54:38Speaker 6: appoint this committee again, as yet unnamed committee to figure
- 54:43Speaker 6: all this out, who gets money and how much of
- 54:46Speaker 6: the pot they get.
- 54:47Speaker 5: That's I mean, that may be a bridge too far
- 54:50Speaker 5: for a lot of Republicans.
- 54:52Speaker 3: Now Rob does it he put together?
- 54:54Speaker 2: I'm assuming AI made this because it's such a fantastic
- 54:57Speaker 2: piece of artwork on his x account. Uh you know,
- 55:01Speaker 2: it's got a picture of the State House, it's got
- 55:02Speaker 2: a stockpile. It's just earmarks upon earmarks stacked in front
- 55:07Speaker 2: of it and at the bottom of it. He says,
- 55:10Speaker 2: I support the tax relief, but I cannot support the
- 55:14Speaker 2: rest tax less, spend less, hide nothing.
- 55:18Speaker 3: I'm voting no on this. So that's his position.
- 55:20Speaker 2: That's a hardcore right position. And again because he is
- 55:25Speaker 2: a Freedom Caucus member. I'm assuming that all the Freedom
- 55:29Speaker 2: Caucus feels this way. I don't know. We haven't spoken
- 55:32Speaker 2: to them. J. Kil Martin might be listening right now.
- 55:34Speaker 2: He lives right here in Lexington. He's a he's a
- 55:36Speaker 2: Freedom Caucus member. He listens from time to time. Maybe
- 55:39Speaker 2: he'll chime in. But the bigger picture, this is one
- 55:43Speaker 2: of those things, Christopher, where you and I and the
- 55:46Speaker 2: average South Carolinian we don't know exactly what's hidden inside budgets.
- 55:51Speaker 2: That's why we have elected officials, you know. That's that's
- 55:54Speaker 2: what representative democracy is about. Otherwise it's mob rule. Otherwise
- 55:59Speaker 2: we all have to go and we all have to
- 56:01Speaker 2: vote on everything. So we have to at some point
- 56:03Speaker 2: trust the people we elect to kind of go through
- 56:07Speaker 2: all of this stuff with their staffs and then come
- 56:10Speaker 2: up with a short version of it so that we
- 56:13Speaker 2: can comprehend why they're voting the way they're voting. I
- 56:15Speaker 2: think Rob Harris has done a good job of explaining
- 56:17Speaker 2: his position. It'll be interesting to hear from the people
- 56:19Speaker 2: who vote.
- 56:20Speaker 3: Yes on it.
- 56:21Speaker 2: Are they going to say that his analysis is wrong?
- 56:24Speaker 2: There's not three hundred million dollars in earmarks there's not
- 56:27Speaker 2: three hundred and seventy eight million dollars sitting unappropriated that
- 56:30Speaker 2: there is, there is a line item veto if somebody
- 56:34Speaker 2: wanted it, or perhaps the line item veto is not
- 56:36Speaker 2: important to them.
- 56:37Speaker 6: Well, the South Carolina Policy Council, they just they did
- 56:41Speaker 6: a long story on this budget. They called it the Good,
- 56:43Speaker 6: the Bad, and the Ugly, and they said, I mean
- 56:46Speaker 6: they give the exact dollar amount, three hundred and seventy seven,
- 56:49Speaker 6: seven hundred forty one, six hundred thirty five million dollars,
- 56:54Speaker 6: three hundred seventy seven million dollars, seven hundred forty one thousand,
- 56:57Speaker 6: six hundred and thirty five that's the total.
- 56:59Speaker 3: You don't think they just picked that number out of
- 57:00Speaker 3: thin air.
- 57:01Speaker 6: Non recurring revenue, which means it's money that's sitting there
- 57:07Speaker 6: and waiting to be appropriated. And we know that there
- 57:11Speaker 6: are legislators, especially on the House side, who are lined
- 57:15Speaker 6: up who say I've got this you know project, this
- 57:18Speaker 6: pet project in my district, and I want so and
- 57:21Speaker 6: so dollars. And we're told this committee is going to
- 57:24Speaker 6: come together and examine all of these projects and say, Okay,
- 57:28Speaker 6: this one works, this one does not benefit the taxpayers
- 57:31Speaker 6: of South Carolina. But we don't even know who's on
- 57:33Speaker 6: the committee yet.
- 57:34Speaker 3: That's what Rob Harris put in his post no real
- 57:37Speaker 3: spending punted to an unnamed, unscheduled committee.
- 57:42Speaker 5: Well, it would have to be soon.
- 57:44Speaker 6: I mean, they're gonna have to spend that money soon
- 57:46Speaker 6: before it goes away.
- 57:48Speaker 2: So again, if you're a legislator driving into town right now,
- 57:52Speaker 2: there might be some listening to us on their way
- 57:54Speaker 2: to the State House. You're coming in from another area.
- 57:57Speaker 2: Maybe you'd never listened normally to South Carolinas More news
- 58:00Speaker 2: because you live in or County, or you live you know,
- 58:03Speaker 2: in rock Hill or someplace wherever you're driving in from
- 58:06Speaker 2: and you just happen to stumble upon this show. Just
- 58:09Speaker 2: be prepared to give an account as to why you
- 58:12Speaker 2: voted yes on this. If what Rob Harris is saying
- 58:16Speaker 2: is true, is there millions unappropriated three hundred and seventy
- 58:21Speaker 2: seven point whatever Christopher just said it.
- 58:23Speaker 3: Was, is that unappropriated? Is there?
- 58:26Speaker 2: Are you why are you voting yes on this? Is
- 58:28Speaker 2: it specifically because you have a pet project? Is it
- 58:31Speaker 2: because you just wanted to get a yes because you
- 58:33Speaker 2: wanted to just move on? We just give an account,
- 58:37Speaker 2: Tell the people in your audience, not necessarily even our audience.
- 58:41Speaker 2: Tell the people where you live why you voted yes.
- 58:43Speaker 2: This should be a hard vote for people to take.
- 58:45Speaker 6: I would think, Kelly, but some of these legislators, and
- 58:49Speaker 6: we've heard from them before, he or she will say, Look,
- 58:53Speaker 6: I had to hold my nose, but A was going
- 58:57Speaker 6: to benefit the state ultimately, so I had to vote
- 58:59Speaker 6: for B too, and A for a lot of people.
- 59:02Speaker 6: Is that tax relief that Rob Harris mentioned, correct, I
- 59:05Speaker 6: mean the homestead exemption, the tax burden that's relieved on
- 59:10Speaker 6: small businesses. There is some good in this budget, but.
- 59:14Speaker 2: If I vote no, those things don't necessarily go away.
- 59:17Speaker 2: We just have to delay it till we actually pass
- 59:19Speaker 2: a budget. Okay, then we start the argument all over again.
- 59:22Speaker 2: Are they willing to do that?
- 59:23Speaker 6: Are they willing to come back and work an extended
- 59:26Speaker 6: extra session to figure all this out?
- 59:28Speaker 3: Don't make me work more.
- 59:30Speaker 2: Come on, all right, we'll take a break here. It
- 59:32Speaker 2: is eight oh nine on South Carolina's Morning News from the.
- 59:35Speaker 1: Midlands to the low Country. This is South Carolina's morning news.
- 59:40Speaker 2: All right, So some housekeeping to just make you all
- 59:43Speaker 2: aware of. I'm a little bit bummed that Christopher Thompson's
- 59:46Speaker 2: taking some time off. Sorry, I know, but listen, the
- 59:50Speaker 2: guy deserves it.
- 59:51Speaker 5: Just a few days, Kelly.
- 59:52Speaker 2: It is a few days, and you've obviously earned it.
- 59:54Speaker 2: He's already for those of you who you cannot even
- 59:57Speaker 2: imagine the amount of effort that it takes for christ
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: for Thompson to put on the best Gamecock coverage, and
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: he does do the absolute best Gamecock coverage, and as
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: we head into the season, he will be here roughly
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: twenty three and a.
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: Half hours per day. It is a labor of love,
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: but it is a bit labor intensive. But you help.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: I help very very little. I mean, I show up
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: on game day and basically I don't drink beer anymore.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: But if I that's the equivalent of me having a
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: beer just sitting there just you know. I am the
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: fan discussion, I have the how can I just root
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: harder for the game Cocks part of the pregame show.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: But yeah, so Christopher Thompson will be off for a
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: couple of days, so it'll be me flying solo, which
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: that could be an adventure because I don't really push
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: buttons that well anymore.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: So we'll see how that goes.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: So everybody, you know, cross your fingers and hold your
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: breath for the next few days without Christopher.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: Then I will be on vacation.
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: The man who really needs a vacation.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: I don't know about that, but I'll be going back
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: up to Connecticut to visit my mother, excited to see her.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: She's getting ready for her eightieth birthday, so happy early birthday, Mom.
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: And then we'll be retget you know.
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: Reunited on the twenty fourth.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: On the twenty fourth, we're back at it and we're
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: ready for the new fall season. Speaking of the new
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: fall season, I understand that at night we're going to
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: be adding a new show, but it's a little bit
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: later at night. I know a lot of people love
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: Jesse Kelly, but after the Jesse Kelly Show, we're going
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: to be adding a guy named Michael Berry the Czar
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: of talk radio, which means I can't use that night.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: I was thinking about calling myself the czar.
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: He took that before you got to it.
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: Howard Stern has always been.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: He called himself what the king of all media, right
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: after Michael Jackson named himself the King of pop. After
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: Elvis Presley was called the King of rock. So I'm
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: working on nicknames. If you have a nickname for me
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: or Christopher, you can let us know on the talkback feature. Easy, well,
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: you can let us know. I didn't even say we're
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: going to use it. You can just put it out,
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: you know, just hit the microphone button on the talkback
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: feature and let us know. Maybe suggested nicknames or if
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: you have any thoughts on today. Again, just a reminder,
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: please check your polling location for today because it is different.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: For a lot of South care Orlenians go to sc
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: vote dot gov. Right is it vote se vote dot
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: gover or votes plural se votes dot gov.
- 1:02:08Speaker 6: Kelly, I'm curious about one thing because we were told
- 1:02:11Speaker 6: yesterday that there are some schools in some counties that
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: do allow voting to occur while school is in session.
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: Not many, but they they at least made it to
- 1:02:21Speaker 6: the Election Commission. Made it sound as if there are
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: some schools that allow both. I can't imagine in today's
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: security era, you know where we you know, we've really
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: battened down the schools, any schools would allow voting to
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: occur if they've got students in session.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: Well, and particularly in Charleston, I know it's like the
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: first day of school for them. I think it's also
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: like Lexington Richmond five today and Greenville and Greenville they're
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: not listening to us in Greenville.
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: True losers. But but the for those of you having the.
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: First day of school, that would really make things because
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: kids don't even know where they're going. Maybe it's their
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: ever at that school. So there's already a world of confusion.
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: Imagine getting into the carpool line and you're trying to vote.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I can't even imagine. I can't even imagine.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: So again, sc votes dot gov. Let you know if
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: where you normally vote is where you're gonna go, or
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: maybe you need a new polling location today. But please
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: get out and be a part of this.
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: Again.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: The polls are I mean, Darlen Graham has a seven
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: point lead in all the polls, well not all the polls,
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: but the last two polls that we've seen. But for
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: number two it is Wolf. There's a big swing in
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: some of the polling here. So we'll see how it
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: plays out tonight. But it's really like Christopher, you say,
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: it's all about voter turnout today.
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: Who gets out the votes? And we've seen a lot
- 1:03:43Speaker 6: of mailers, a lot of Yeah. I mean, I'm sure
- 1:03:45Speaker 6: if you have a cell phone, you've got plenty of
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: text messages yesterday, people sharing last minute messages with you.
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: It's I mean, it's all comes down to who gets
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: out their voters.
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: Yeah. Absolutely, so.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Well, when tomorrow morning, we should have a good idea,
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: we should know what who's going to be inundating us
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: with morem ads for the next two weeks for the runoff.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: That's right, it's eight eighteen on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Is South Carolina's Morning News on one O three five
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: FM and five sixty AM WVOC, Columbia and ninety four
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: to three WSC Charleston.
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: It's eight twenty four.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: And I want you to guard your minds, ladies and gentlemen,
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: that's biblical. Guard your thoughts, Guard guard where your mind wanders,
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: because we're about to delve into the mind of the
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: Democrat Socialist co chair Meghan Romer, who gave a interview
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: yesterday to The New Yorker, because even the New Yorker,
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: the New Yorker magazine, is stunned at how far the
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: Democrat Socialists have gone and what and again, Meghan Roamer
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: is the lady who you saw on Fox News that
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: clip of her saying, yeah, we want to get rid
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: of borders. Yeah, we want to get rid of the military. Yeah,
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: we want to get rid of the prison system. Yeah,
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: we want to get rid of the Supreme Court. Yeah,
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: we want to get rid of the president and see
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: yeah yeah, yeah, just get rid of it all, get
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: rid of it all. So, how the heck did this happen?
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: This is that's what the New Yorker asked her. This
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: is sixty seconds her evolution from independent. She went from
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: an independent to the co chair of the DSA in
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: like seven years.
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: Absolutely true.
- 1:05:21Speaker 12: Got most of my news from John Stewart, that is,
- 1:05:23Speaker 12: that was my primary news source. I'd read the Sunday
- 1:05:26Speaker 12: Times and I'd read John Stuart and I actually I
- 1:05:28Speaker 12: did read The New Yorker, and sometimes even for more
- 1:05:31Speaker 12: than the cartoons.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: I appreciate that.
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: I what happened, what what turned?
- 1:05:36Speaker 12: So after Hillary Clinton did not win and I was
- 1:05:38Speaker 12: supportive of Hillary Clinton, I was not a registered Democrat
- 1:05:41Speaker 12: at that point. I was registered Independent. And then she
- 1:05:45Speaker 12: didn't win, and I was horrified.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: I was baffled.
- 1:05:50Speaker 12: I tried to become involved in the Democratic Party. What
- 1:05:53Speaker 12: I ended up involved in was this like women's club
- 1:05:55Speaker 12: where you'd like have speakers, like you weren't actually making
- 1:05:58Speaker 12: any decisions. You were hearing people talk about a book.
- 1:06:02Speaker 12: And that was all really frustrating because I was.
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: Like, who's doing anything?
- 1:06:07Speaker 12: What are we pushing anything toward? And a friend who
- 1:06:09Speaker 12: is a folk musician said, you know, we are starting
- 1:06:12Speaker 12: this DSA chapter. You should come to a meeting. And
- 1:06:14Speaker 12: I was like, uh, this socialists And I was like,
- 1:06:18Speaker 12: all right, well, I'll come to your meeting because we're friends,
- 1:06:21Speaker 12: but I'm not saying comrade. And I went to the
- 1:06:25Speaker 12: meeting and I was just so relieved they were actually
- 1:06:28Speaker 12: doing something, just anything. They had plans to just do something.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and America, that's the plans. But Christopher, how many
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: people are going to be sucked in by this? Because again,
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: what she's excited about is the idea of doing something. Now,
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: when we look at the Constitution, when we look at
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: the way things are structured in America, it's supposed to
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: be very slow. Changes need to be overwhelmingly popular. That's
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: why we have, you know, the checks and balances. But
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: the American people are supposed to be kind of overwhelmingly
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: supportive of one issue, and that's how we get it
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: to happen. It's if it's just fifty two percent of
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: Americans feel a certain way, No, you're never going to
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: get it done. Yeah, it shouldn't get done. You need
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: it to be overwhelming. But at the Democrat socialist level,
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: they're seeing things moving lightning fast, and I think that
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: this is unfortunately attractive to a lot of people.
- 1:07:21Speaker 6: What's odd about all this is now you've got some
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: of the most prominent people on the Democrat side, for example,
- 1:07:27Speaker 6: Alexandria Cassio Cortez, she's trying to backtrack on statements she made.
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: She's saying, well, that was what did she say the
- 1:07:34Speaker 6: other day? That was woke one, as if that was
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: a phase she was going through, and now she's grown
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: up and realized, Okay, we really can't do some of
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: the things I was saying, for example, abolish the police.
- 1:07:48Speaker 6: She's backtracking on that, but still the rest of the
- 1:07:52Speaker 6: DSA is full steam ahead.
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: Was Alexandria Caesio Quartz. That's what I saw this week,
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: the new mature version where she was taking her eggs
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: out on a video and then freezing them on camera.
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: I'm not sure why she decided that was for public consumption,
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: but there it was.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: She like thirty six, thirty eight years old, whatever. She
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: is way too old to be doing that kind of
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: stupid publicity stunt. But that's AOC. But yeah, again, I'm
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: very I don't want to say I'm afraid, but maybe
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: a little bit afraid just to think that we have
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: so many Americans like Megan Romer, who was registered independent
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: in twenty eighteen or twenty sixteen, and here she is
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: twenty twenty three, I think, is when she became the
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: co chair of the Democrat Socialists of America. So in
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: less than ten years she goes from an independent to
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: the co chair of the dang Socialists. And even her
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: own response, which she was invited to a DSA chapter meeting,
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: was the socialist Yeah.
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: I'm not going to call anybody comrade.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I notice you're wearing your bright red glasses tonight, ma'am,
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: and you're starting to call people comrades. So anyway, very
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: concerning stuff there. Nine on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's Morning News eight thirty four, and
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: earlier today we played back parts of our interview with
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: the Treasury Secretary Scott Besson, who was in town yesterday
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: for the renaming of Joint Based Charleston to Joint Base
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Lindsay Graham.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: You can get that entire It's about a ten to
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: twelve minute interview if I remember right, that is on
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: the iHeartRadio app on the National and you spelled National
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: like my name and Ash. The National Briefing has the
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: complete interview with Scott Besson, but part of that interview
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: talked about how the economy is doing great, better than
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: ever and if you look at according to last year's number,
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: five point six two million new businesses were launched in America.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: That is an eight point two percent increase in the
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: highest amount we've ever launched in a new year. So yes,
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: small businesses are growing, large businesses are growing, businesses are
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: growing growing in general. The Small Business Administrator Kelly Loffler
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: was on with Fox Business. I think this is this
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: morning kind of singing the praises of that and the
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: tax cuts.
- 1:10:10Speaker 13: By the way, they create two out of every three
- 1:10:13Speaker 13: new jobs in America. There are job creation engines. So
- 1:10:16Speaker 13: if you care about jobs and rising wages, that comes
- 1:10:19Speaker 13: through small businesses in the private sector and that's what
- 1:10:23Speaker 13: this administration is fighting for every day. Think about the
- 1:10:25Speaker 13: working family tax cuts. I mean it averted a five
- 1:10:28Speaker 13: trillion dollar tax increase and saved hard working Americans eighty
- 1:10:31Speaker 13: two billion dollars, and every single Democrat voted against that
- 1:10:36Speaker 13: because they want big government funding of big government projects
- 1:10:40Speaker 13: that crowd out the private sector, which are our small businesses,
- 1:10:42Speaker 13: our main streets.
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: So that, I mean, that is the I think right there,
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: you just hurt an encapsulation. Do you think that the
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: government should provide the money or do you think that
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: these small businesses should provide the money.
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: That's an easy answer for Republicans, for conservatives.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: And I would think or an independent, I would I
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: would think that anybody who has lived in any country
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: that has a government so ilhan omar, you can take
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: a seat. But for people who grew up in a
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: country that like whether it's the United States, Canada, England, Australia, Poland,
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: it doesn't matter which country grew up in. Every citizen
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: in every country complains about the government. It's lack of efficiency,
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: how it wastes money, the bureaucracy, how it takes forever
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: for things to get done. Everybody does that It's not
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: just an American tradition, it's a world tradition. And so
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: when you ask yourself, well, who would be better at
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: providing jobs? Would it be better through the government or
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: would it be better through the private industry? Would it
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: be who would How am I most likely to benefit?
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: Am I most like? I mean, that's just play in.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: The odds.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: Are the odds that the federal government is going to
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: treat me better then I can treat myself?
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: I'd say not.
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: I'd say not.
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: This is such a winning argument for Republicans, and they're
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: completely whiffing on the younger generation on this. This is
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: a point of great frustration for me and many others.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: And I know that there's a bunch of people starting
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: their first day of school. I guess they're probably already
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: in school at eight thirty seven. But if there happened
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: to be in the backseat of the cars, you kids,
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: with your little, tiny minds that are trying to grow,
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: let me tell you, capitalism is the only solution to poverty.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: It's the only solution. There's never been a government program
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: that has eliminated poverty.
- 1:12:33Speaker 6: And that's going to have to be the argument going
- 1:12:35Speaker 6: into the midterms. I don't know that you can argue
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: so much on this particular economy because, as you point out,
- 1:12:42Speaker 6: there are some highlights, but there are also some low lights.
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: What was weird about last Friday is we saw the
- 1:12:47Speaker 6: jobs report can now lower jobs, but unemployment was lower two.
- 1:12:53Speaker 6: It seems like there's always this mixed message we're getting
- 1:12:56Speaker 6: from government. But you get the feeling, according to polls,
- 1:12:59Speaker 6: that Republicans right now hour down when it comes to
- 1:13:01Speaker 6: the economy, and that's usually one of our key points,
- 1:13:03Speaker 6: our key arguments leading into any election.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and again I think a lot of that has
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: to do with messaging. Obviously, you have the mainstream media
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: is always going to be against you on that. One
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: of the numbers that's never reported or very rarely reported
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: is the break even number. Previously, under the Biden administration,
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: it was one hundred and fifty to two hundred thousand
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: jobs per month needed to be created for us to
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: quote unquote break even. It's currently fifteen thousand, so one
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: hundred and eighty thousand jobs or so less needed because
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: of all the illegal immigrants that are no longer in
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: the workplace.
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: They're gone. And you also look at when you think
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: about fewer jobs or whatever.
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: Look at the amount of federal government jobs that have
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: been cut, right I mean, it's an unbelievable amount of
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: money that.
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: We're saving right there.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: But also I believe for a lot of people you're
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: going to do better in the private sector in the
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: long run. There's temporary pain before long term prosperity. It's
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: always been that way. I have nothing but the utmost
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: faith in this American economy to not only fix whatever's broken,
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: but to continue to improve on the good things that
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: we've already got, because it's about you and me, it's
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: about the people in the streets. It's do you want it.
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: If you want it, go and get it. That's really
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: what it is. Do you want it. If the answer
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: is yes, then go and get it. If you don't
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: want to go and get it, then become a socialist.
- 1:14:21Speaker 6: Nothing against federal workers. I happen to be married to one.
- 1:14:24Speaker 6: But we can't afford to employ everyone in the governments.
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: No, you can't say we have a good economy because
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: eighty percent of the public is not working for the
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: federal rates. Goodness gracious, all right, Well, Christopher and I
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: have done our part to try to promote capitalism here
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: this morning. If you've got thoughts on that, use the
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: talkback feature. This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: All right, So.
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: Yesterday Massachusetts did what Massachusetts has the right to do,
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: which is extend the time you can have an abortion.
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: I don't know why they continue to try to paint
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: this as I fight against Donald Trump. Donald Trump had
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: always said let the states decide. The Supreme Court always,
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: well not always, but finally came to their senses and
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: said we were wrong in Roe v.
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: Wade.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: It's supposed to be a state decision because it wasn't
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: in the Constitution at that level. So again, anything that's
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: not decided here supposed to be a state right. So
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: in Massachusetts, you want to talk about a difference in
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: opinions between the people of Massachusetts and South Carolina. As
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: WCVB reports, this is the Boston state. Excuse me, the
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: Boston network. As state law had been one of the
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: laxer ones in the country, with twenty four weeks and
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: exceptions for cases involving deadly fetal diagnosis or to protect
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: the life of a mother. However, we have now loosened
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: it as far as you can go. According to Representative
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: Michael Day, we've decided to get away from all exceptions
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: and trust our medical professionals, who we think are the
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: best in the world. And so with that, you can
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: get an abortion right on up to the day of
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: the delivery. Now they brought out as a spokesperson for this,
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: and again I feel horrible for this lady Kate Danine,
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: who was thirty three weeks pregnant when she received devastating
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: news quote, I had discovered my son suffered a stroke
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: in utero and there was a chance he would die
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: in utero or perhaps survive with no chance of a
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: normal healthy life. So she traveled to Maryland, which also
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: had a very lax abortion law, and she got the
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: abortion done there. So we have no idea what her
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: son would have been like. Actually this is but again
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: that is Massachusetts, right.
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: I don't like it.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: I'm against it, But again I celebrate that South Carolina
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: has stricter abortion laws. If you like the abortion laws
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: of South Carolina, you're in the right state. If you
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: think that there should be wide open abortion all the
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: way up to the day you deliver. There are plenty
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: of states now where you can go and Christopher, I
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: don't know how else to explain that.
- 1:16:54Speaker 6: Twenty four weeks, that's that's six months already, and they
- 1:16:57Speaker 6: got even more progressive than that months.
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: Now nine months, you could literally be you know, like
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: I guess, you could actually be dilating, and then well,
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: I've just made a decision right now that you don't
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: have to have a reason. According to this, you don't
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: have to have a reason. It's not like we're trusting
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: the doctors because the kid can't survive or whatever, the
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: mom's gonna die. It can just be as flippant as
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: AH not feeling it. I have no exception necessary. Yeah,
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: I check my savings account. I don't have that kind
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: of cash today. So let's just move on with a
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: state provided abortion. It's horrific, it's monstrous, but that's what
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: the people of Massachusetts want.
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: The people of South Carolina do not want that. Thankfully.
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: I'll continue to pray for the people of Massachusetts and
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: all those other states. All right, we got to take
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: a break. Eight forty seven on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: You're listening to South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: I wish everybody could use the talkback feature on the
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: iHeartRadio app to get to us. I understand that you can't,
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: so you can use my social media. I'm at Kelly
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: Nash Radio most actively on x SBG. Bird Dog says,
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: can't use it while I'm at work. However, for the
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: DSA lady happy that they're doing something. Smacking yourself in
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: the head where a ball hammer is doing something. It's
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: a matter of the quality. That's a great point. Yeah,
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: that's a great one, no doubt. Also, just heard from
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: Steve Michael. We were referencing some of his data earlier
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: and he says, already hearing from frustrated voters this morning.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: Alternative sites, poorly labeled, lack of parking, poor signage at
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: previous sites. That's just going on in the Midlands. This
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: will be a fascinating watch today. Oh boy, So Christopher Thompson,
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: you've been pushing it all morning.
- 1:18:41Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: Sc votes dot gov is where you'll find your pulling place.
- 1:18:45Speaker 6: I can't help you once you get there if they've
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: got it labeled poorly or don't have enough parking for you,
- 1:18:50Speaker 6: just do the best you can.
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: Yes, the stick toitiveness is going to be important today.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: It is and tomorrow morning. Well, we are you tomorrow,
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: You're off, I'm off to Oh my gosh, I got
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: to talk about this all by myself, Tamar.
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: I'll tune in to see who won. Oh oh, I'm jealous.
