- 0:05hey everyone welcome back to the Eye Believe podcast
- 0:07this is another episode of Melody's 15
- 0:10years this is episode 18
- 0:12and today we're gonna talk about community pitfalls
- 0:15welcome Melody thanks for joining us
- 0:18thanks for having me back
- 0:20alright so the ocular melanoma community
- 0:23is small but mighty is how I would describe them
- 0:26it's a small community it's rare cancer
- 0:29but they are warriors so
- 0:33when you're getting advice from a community
- 0:36there's some pitfalls that come with this so
- 0:40today's topic is gonna be community
- 0:42pitfalls and how to navigate
- 0:43them what to look for what to expect if you're new to this community
- 0:47what might you run into and how to
- 0:50side step those little potholes
- 0:53yeah you know everybody in the community
- 0:56wants to help let's we're gonna start there
- 0:59they wanna be helpful and they really are trying to be helpful
- 1:02there aren't a lot of people out there trying to trip us up
- 1:06but it happens because
- 1:09um
- 1:10we all want to think we're right and we know more than we probably do
- 1:14um
- 1:15and giving um
- 1:17when you're in the community and people are talking
- 1:20a lot of people are gonna tell you what to do
- 1:22and there's some of them that can be kind of bullying
- 1:24about it
- 1:26if you don't do this and you're not doing the right thing
- 1:28if you don't see this doctor
- 1:29you're not doing the right thing
- 1:32I take take their what they're saying
- 1:35like with a grain of sand
- 1:36because if you have a doctor
- 1:37that you're comfortable with if you have a doctor
- 1:39that you like and you feel that they're educated
- 1:43and you're very very comfortable
- 1:45then stick with them because
- 1:48just because someone else loves their doctor
- 1:50doesn't mean that that's who you need to go to
- 1:54um
- 1:54and and I think that's that's a good place to start is
- 1:58everybody thinks
- 1:59that their doctor is the best and the only
- 2:02and the first and I can promise you that they're not um
- 2:06we have so many great doctors out there
- 2:09and I I think that's why everyone thinks their doctor
- 2:11is the best is because so many of them are great and I will tell you
- 2:15from doing the What's Up, Doc? series
- 2:17every time I do an interview with a doctor
- 2:19and they're so wonderful I think oh if I was a patient
- 2:22I would pick them and then I do the next
- 2:24interview and I say oh
- 2:25if I was a patient I would pick them
- 2:27like they're all really wonderful people
- 2:30so I hear this a lot in the community
- 2:32my doctor is only one of three that treats
- 2:36ocular melanoma in the whole country
- 2:39we have a we have a spreadsheet of about 125 names
- 2:43of doctors that treat ocular melanoma of some kind or
- 2:46another in the in the United States
- 2:50I don't know I don't know but that's what they hear
- 2:53I I also know that um
- 2:58not everybody needs to go to Philadelphia
- 3:01love Philadelphia I've said it and said it and said it
- 3:04they can't see every one of us it's impossible
- 3:08and and so just because you you know somebody
- 3:12who has a great doctor
- 3:14but if you have to travel to go see them
- 3:16maybe that's not the right doctor
- 3:17for you it's the right doctor for them
- 3:20but might not be the right doctor for you and so I
- 3:23I think we we get a little pushy with our doctors
- 3:25you know if
- 3:26if I'm in a Facebook group and somebody says
- 3:30you know I live in Nashville
- 3:32should I go to should I go to Philadelphia absolutely
- 3:34not you got Sarah Cannon right there
- 3:38you don't know um go see Doctor McKean
- 3:43and she's a she's amazing she's wonderful
- 3:47she's knowledgeable she works with Philadelphia
- 3:49they they they send patients back and forth
- 3:52why would you leave so close to home to fly
- 3:56but just because a group of people on the the
- 4:01uh support group said oh you gotta go to Sato
- 4:03no you don't
- 4:04you don't and Doctor Sato will say that himself
- 4:07no you don't go where it's close to home
- 4:10cause we have so many great doctors right now
- 4:13yeah and what a lot of people might not realize
- 4:15is they're all friends they all talk to each other
- 4:19they're this tight knit community and they talk
- 4:23about work stuff with you know they they consult
- 4:25with each other they will give second opinions
- 4:28to each other's patients they're so tight
- 4:30that there really I don't think is this huge
- 4:34oh these ones are good and these ones are terrible like
- 4:36because they all work together so well
- 4:40and if you look at research papers
- 4:42you'll see common names you know and and
- 4:45you know Doctor
- 4:46Orloff is working with you know 12 doctors on a paper
- 4:49she's not she's not working
- 4:51with these people because she doesn't like them
- 4:54you know they they're
- 4:55they have a common goal they have a common
- 4:57interest in in a
- 4:58research project and they all work together
- 5:00and honestly when I go to the meetings with the doctors
- 5:03it's
- 5:03it's oh my gosh hi how are you and it you know they're
- 5:06they go to dinner they go you know they they really do
- 5:10work together both
- 5:13in practice and in private life
- 5:16absolutely
- 5:17and this might be a good idea to talk about COOG
- 5:21if for anyone
- 5:21who's watching that doesn't know what COOG is
- 5:24oh yeah Cooperative Ocular Oncology Group Doctor Harbour
- 5:27started that as a way to get doctors to collaborate
- 5:30and they've they've
- 5:32it used to be ocular oncologist and now they've
- 5:34brought in a whole bunch of medical oncologist
- 5:36and these doctors work together they all brainstorm
- 5:40they work on a project together and they get along and
- 5:43they support each other so um
- 5:46people that think they have to go to Doctor
- 5:48Harbour just because Doctor
- 5:49Harbour is you know the genetics guru
- 5:53Dr Harbour
- 5:53would I would say would love to see you but if he had
- 5:58you know a colleague in Miami
- 5:59he would say no go to Bascom Palmer it's closer to you
- 6:02you know he he's they're that way they're just um
- 6:07I I don't they don't want competition like that
- 6:10because they're all working together for the common
- 6:12goal
- 6:13yeah and they're doing these research papers
- 6:16together they're sharing information
- 6:17they're learning from each other
- 6:19so I really think that you know that's an important
- 6:22piece is these doctors are not competitive
- 6:24they're not trying to outdo each other
- 6:25they're trying to
- 6:27help each other and get on the same page which is the whole point of
- 6:29COOG
- 6:30yeah then move the needle you know let's
- 6:33let's make a difference let's do their their goal
- 6:36honestly and if you were at Eye Believe
- 6:39you you probably saw it their goal
- 6:42is to advance science to figure this disease out
- 6:46that's their goal and they all have a common goal
- 6:50their goal is not to be the only the best the first
- 6:54there that's not you know Doctor
- 6:56Harbour started with genetics
- 6:57and he has opened the field and he works with
- 7:01many of the other doctors who
- 7:03kind of take the research
- 7:05from where he's left off you know
- 7:06not that he's not involved in it but
- 7:09he isn't this is mine I did this
- 7:12you know he's not very he's not like that and I think
- 7:15that's one of the takeaways we can get as a community
- 7:18is we need to follow their model
- 7:20we need to work together we need to
- 7:22support each other where we are
- 7:24because we all can't go to
- 7:28three doctors in the United States because those are
- 7:30perceived to be the best now there's I'm gonna preface
- 7:34that with their centers of excellence
- 7:36which is different if you want a center of excellence
- 7:39there's only a few of those go to those that's fine
- 7:42by all means go if you can if you can handle the travel
- 7:45if your insurance will pay for it
- 7:47but here's one of the things that I see in the community
- 7:50all the time that breaks my heart
- 7:52you have somebody especially if they are on
- 7:56specific health plans
- 7:59if they're on an HMO they cannot
- 8:01just go wherever they want they're
- 8:02limited to where their health plan says they can go
- 8:06and it takes a lot of work to get them to
- 8:09their health plan to approve a doctor in another state
- 8:13especially if it's out of network in another state so
- 8:17when the community is telling everybody
- 8:20you've got to go to Sato imagine that patient who
- 8:24can't go to Sato
- 8:25because Sato doesn't take their insurance Sato's group
- 8:28would love to have them but their insurance
- 8:30won't approve Sato's group
- 8:33now you now because you have pushed Sato Sato Sato
- 8:38and now you have patients that can't see them because
- 8:42their their insurance won't cover it
- 8:44now that patient is
- 8:46they feel like they're missing out like
- 8:48I'm not getting the best care because I can't go to all these
- 8:51this place where all these people recommended
- 8:54and it's not fair to that patient that's being referred
- 8:58you know you gotta get you you
- 9:00we gotta stop that in in my opinion
- 9:02we've gotta stop telling
- 9:04people where to go and we've gotta start supporting
- 9:06them to find some a doctor that is knowledgeable
- 9:10in their health plan and close to their home
- 9:12that's what the doctors would want us to do
- 9:16absolutely and you're obviously
- 9:19listening to this podcast so I'm just gonna say
- 9:22go to our playlist
- 9:23if if you're on YouTube we have playlists
- 9:25and look for the What's Up, Doc playlist if you're on
- 9:28another platform just look for any episodes
- 9:30that start with What's Up, Doc
- 9:32those are all
- 9:34episodes where we're interviewing doctors
- 9:37about themselves about where they work how they work
- 9:40some personal um questions what their favorite
- 9:43coffee and treat is in case you want to bring them something
- 9:46so if you are like and that the reason we started
- 9:50that series is because people were asking
- 9:52has anyone been to this doctor what's this doctor
- 9:54like who knows about this doctor
- 9:56and we thought let's let the doctors tell you
- 9:58so if you are wondering about a doctor in your area
- 10:02go to our website and go to the physician finder
- 10:04see who's close to you see who your insurance takes
- 10:07and then see if there's a What's Up, Doc
- 10:08episode on them I
- 10:09I think we've got about maybe 10 right now um
- 10:12and we're still going
- 10:13so we would love to get all of them
- 10:15but if there's a certain doctor that you wanna see
- 10:18email me and tell me get this doctor and I'll I'll
- 10:22go hound them and I'll find them for you
- 10:25I'll make them do it very well very very well
- 10:29that and then you know what
- 10:29like we were just talking about how great our doctors
- 10:32are they have been
- 10:34coming to me I mean I send out an email
- 10:36saying who would like to do this and they've been coming to me saying
- 10:38thank you for asking
- 10:40me thank you for letting me do this because they want to
- 10:43to do it for the patients so I that's just
- 10:45another testament to how great they are
- 10:49I just think as a community we need to support our
- 10:52all the doctors and we need to support all the patients
- 10:55and imagine being in Utah
- 10:57and everybody's telling you oh my god you gotta go to Sato
- 11:00you gotta go to Sato
- 11:01Sato's team Sato's team Doctor Orloff Doctor Seedor
- 11:04oh my god you gotta go there
- 11:07Utah has a wonderful center
- 11:10an absolute wonderful center
- 11:13a lot of people don't even know it's there but they're
- 11:15top notch
- 11:17so now you've got this patient
- 11:19all worked up I can't I got I can't I gotta go there
- 11:22they don't even know what's right in their own backyard
- 11:25they they will probably get the same care
- 11:27but then let's take this another step further
- 11:30if you are going to a doctor that is not
- 11:33in a center of excellence
- 11:34and you don't know that much about him
- 11:36or they don't know that much about ocular melanoma
- 11:39you might suggest to that doctor
- 11:41to consult with some of these other doctors
- 11:44Sato's team will consult with another doctor
- 11:47I mean you you see it in
- 11:49well if you're in the support groups on Facebook
- 11:51a lot of times it'll say you know my doctor
- 11:55is working with this doctor
- 11:56and we're trying to figure it out
- 11:58we have a patient in Florida
- 12:00who's seeing a local oncologist'cause she cannot travel
- 12:03but Sato is consulting because Sato was her
- 12:07her doctor way when she first started
- 12:09but we have to remember that
- 12:12patients have circumstances
- 12:14some people cannot travel
- 12:16they're not well enough they've got family situations
- 12:19so that's not the answer so
- 12:21I I know we're all trying to help
- 12:24we're trying to be helpful and supportive
- 12:26but I think we're not listening
- 12:27to the needs of the person asking the question
- 12:31we're so quick to give advice
- 12:33that sometimes isn't the best advice
- 12:37that makes a lot of sense so um
- 12:39so
- 12:40let's talk about what to do when you get that unwanted
- 12:43information when you're the patient and someone's
- 12:45telling you what you should do a treatment you should have because it worked
- 12:49for them or a doctor that they like or something
- 12:53you know that they're kind of pushing on you what can you do to
- 12:57get out of that or or deal with it
- 13:00um well my favorite thing is called smile and nod
- 13:06I will say that is the best way to to handle
- 13:09things in my approach
- 13:10no matter what it is because when you just kind of agree and say oh OK I'll look into that
- 13:15they stop because they think they've convinced you
- 13:18when you argue and say
- 13:20well no because then they're gonna just try to convince
- 13:24you and push and push
- 13:26and depending how strong willed they are possibly
- 13:28get into a fight
- 13:29but if you just agree and say yeah I'll check that out
- 13:33you can kind of get out of it that way yep
- 13:35amazing recommendation
- 13:37love that thank you so much and they are trying to help
- 13:39even if they're being a little belligerent
- 13:41which sometimes can happen it's
- 13:43coming from a good place cause they are trying to help
- 13:46but you know
- 13:49when you look at ocular melanoma in a whole
- 13:53what and I'm gonna use Ashley McCrary as an example
- 13:58she is probably one of the only people I know
- 14:02that has lived with metastatic disease
- 14:04this long and had that many treatments that's the part
- 14:08she's
- 14:08there's other people that have lived a long time with metastatic
- 14:10disease but she's had so many treatments
- 14:14so then people follow her treatment schedule
- 14:18it doesn't work for them and then they get upset
- 14:21but you went to Sato and I went to Sato and
- 14:24nothing worked I still progressed and
- 14:26how come and that's not fair and why me we have to
- 14:29remember that we're all individuals
- 14:30and we all react differently to metastatic treatment
- 14:34we all act
- 14:35react differently even to the eye treatment some of us
- 14:38like myself
- 14:39yeah I lost vision in my eye but my eye is healthy
- 14:42I do not have retinopathy I do not have to get shots
- 14:45okay if somebody
- 14:47said what was your experience with plaque
- 14:48and where you are right now
- 14:50they would be very disappointed if they had the same plaque
- 14:53and ended up having more complications
- 14:56and having to get shots
- 14:58they would come back to me and say
- 14:59you told me this was easy
- 15:01and it's not I have to have shots
- 15:03and you said you never had a shot
- 15:06well that's my journey but we're all unique
- 15:09individuals and we all react differently it depends on
- 15:13you know where your plaque
- 15:14was placed did you have proton
- 15:15beam or did you have plaque did you have Gamma Knife
- 15:18you know I know people in the community
- 15:19have said oh I'm having Gamma Knife
- 15:21oh no you can't have Gamma Knife
- 15:22you have to have plaque
- 15:24well her doctor thinks Gamma Knife is better
- 15:27and in the community we are not doctors
- 15:30we should not be giving medical advice
- 15:32um we we need to refrain from that and
- 15:36they've worked it out with their doctor
- 15:38that they think Gamma Knife will work for them
- 15:40wish them well
- 15:42you know on the on the advice giver side
- 15:45if you are in that situation
- 15:48like Megan said just thank them and don't get yourself
- 15:52all worked up because there's many different treatments
- 15:55for many different situations
- 15:57we and every one of us is unique
- 16:00so what works for one does not work for all
- 16:04that is very true and then
- 16:06another point that we wanted to make is that sometimes
- 16:10we don't hear exactly right what the doctor
- 16:13tells us we might
- 16:14walk away with our version of what they said
- 16:17and I mean I think how many people have read an email
- 16:22thought they knew what it said and then went back and reread it and realized it's not what it said
- 16:27I have
- 16:28I've done it quite a few times yes so it can definitely
- 16:33happen especially when you're in a traumatic situation
- 16:36you're getting maybe not good news
- 16:37or not news you wanted
- 16:39um you know we we recommend recording
- 16:42your session your not session
- 16:43recording your appointment if you can so that you
- 16:47you have a transcript of it and that's one of the reasons
- 16:49is because it's really easy to hear something
- 16:52wrong or think they said something they didn't say
- 16:54second guess yourself so that's just
- 16:57another point is sometimes
- 16:58when people say but my doctor said this
- 17:01did they really we're not really sure
- 17:05did your doctor your did your doctor
- 17:07really say he's only one of three people in the whole United States
- 17:10that treats uveal
- 17:11melanoma when we know better than that
- 17:13that's probably not what you said he said he probably
- 17:16I don't know what they would have said but
- 17:18they could have said I'm one of three that that
- 17:21was licensed at this time or I'm one of three that does this
- 17:24you know because a lot of people do things differently
- 17:27you've got Doctor McCannel started putting
- 17:30a an oil in um the vitreous fluid
- 17:34to help with radiation damage
- 17:36and other doctors weren't doing that
- 17:37and so then there became this big
- 17:39controversy well I didn't get oil how come you got oil
- 17:42does oil even work it was a trial
- 17:44they didn't know at that time
- 17:46you know well you're getting
- 17:47drops do I need I see that all the time
- 17:49how come I'm not getting drops or shots or whatever
- 17:53cause you don't need them you know talk to your doctor
- 17:56don't use the community
- 17:59for medical advice
- 18:02that's the biggest pitfall right there
- 18:04the community is there to
- 18:05support you you can get information
- 18:08but when you are relying
- 18:09on the community to give you medical advice
- 18:12there's where you're going wrong right there because that is not what it's for
- 18:16and we shouldn't be giving it
- 18:18yeah and like you said everybody's different so
- 18:21whatever is going on in your eye that's warranting
- 18:23drops isn't happening to somebody else or you know
- 18:26whatever the situation
- 18:27may be everybody's different everybody's doctor
- 18:30has a different approach
- 18:30it might be that you could have gotten this
- 18:33you know X Y Z if you had done A B and C
- 18:36but you didn't you did this so they
- 18:38they went that way and it's a very complex
- 18:41thing so to act like we understand any of it
- 18:44you know I mean even for us this is our job
- 18:46but you know I mean
- 18:48took me two years to really
- 18:51be able to talk like I felt like I kind of
- 18:54knew what was going on and I still
- 18:56know nothing that the doctors know so um
- 19:00that's such a great point why are we telling patients
- 19:03what to do and why are patients
- 19:05believing what other patients say
- 19:08just because we all have a common
- 19:11element you know if you broke your arm and your doctor
- 19:15did not need to do surgery but your neighbor
- 19:17broke their arm and had to have surgery and plates
- 19:19and screws and all that
- 19:22would you question
- 19:23your doctor how come I didn't get plates and screws
- 19:26no you wouldn't you'd be like
- 19:27oh I guess I didn't have the same break as you right
- 19:33that's very true and you know here's another
- 19:35piece of this too if you really don't trust your doctor
- 19:38and you really feel like they are doing a disservice
- 19:42for your treatment
- 19:44get a second opinion and find a doctor
- 19:46you do trust because that's
- 19:47another thing for advocating for yourself
- 19:49you need to have a doctor
- 19:50that you trust and have a good relationship with um
- 19:54or even if you're
- 19:55you know even if you just want a second opinion
- 19:57you trust your doctor but you just want a second
- 19:59opinion that's always the right answer is to get one
- 20:02but it's not gonna come from the Facebook
- 20:04group it's gonna come from another doctor
- 20:06and most doctors not every doctor but most doctors will
- 20:11it will will be fine with you getting a second opinion
- 20:15um and they might even give you a list of doctors
- 20:17to get a second opinion
- 20:19and I know I have been to doctors
- 20:20that have said if you want a second opinion let me know
- 20:23I can hook you up with this doctor or that doctor
- 20:26because honestly
- 20:28all doctors want their patients to feel
- 20:32comfortable and good
- 20:34about what they're going to have done
- 20:36no matter what it is they don't want a
- 20:39an anxious apprehensive patient
- 20:42they they don't they want to do their best to avoid
- 20:45that situation as a community we have to be careful
- 20:48because there's so many passionate people
- 20:51and I'm not gonna say that they're doing anything
- 20:54wrong so please please please understand
- 20:59the people are not doing anything
- 21:01wrong they're just overly passionate
- 21:03and they can come off a little aggressive
- 21:06so if you find yourself
- 21:07in that situation where people are a little aggressive
- 21:10maybe feel a little bullied
- 21:12just understand it comes from a place of
- 21:18passion from them they're passionate
- 21:20about this and they honestly feel they're right
- 21:22but it might not be right for you so it's okay
- 21:25to let them have their passion speech
- 21:28and then you go do whatever you want to do
- 21:30and this is really hard for those that have a little bit more of a
- 21:34subdued personality
- 21:36we wanna please everybody
- 21:38don't do that please please please yourself
- 21:41make sure it's right for you um
- 21:44I've gone to other doctors
- 21:45that I did not like based on a recommendation and went back to my doctor
- 21:50um because
- 21:53it they didn't fit me and you have to
- 21:56I think you have to do that so be careful in the community that
- 21:58you're not a being a follower you know think
- 22:01think for yourself
- 22:03find the doctor that suits you
- 22:05find the treatment that suits you and go for
- 22:07go that way
- 22:11yes I think that's so important with so many aspects
- 22:14of life not just your treatment but just
- 22:19I mean I feel like you can apply that to everything
- 22:24me I'm a follower if somebody
- 22:26says oh we gotta do this I'm like OK I'll go and
- 22:29and it took me many
- 22:31many many years to be like wait a minute
- 22:33I don't wanna go do that rock climbing sounds
- 22:35really fun but I don't think it's for me you guys all have a great time
- 22:39it can be the greatest
- 22:40next thing that's happening but I don't want to do it
- 22:43um you know there's there's we have to start
- 22:48taking care of our own self
- 22:49and making sure that we're making decisions
- 22:51that are right for ourselves
- 22:53and if you're in a community and people are trying to make decisions
- 22:56for you
- 22:57it's okay to take a break back out take a break
- 23:00um don't
- 23:02don't feel like you have to never go back into that community
- 23:05but it's okay you know
- 23:07it and this is mostly for Facebook because that's where
- 23:10a lot of this happens
- 23:11you can turn off comments to your post
- 23:14you can talk to the moderator and ask them to intervene
- 23:18um if you are an ocular melanoma support with Elizabeth
- 23:22she will usually intervene before you ask her to
- 23:25but other groups are not like that
- 23:28but you can always ask the moderator
- 23:30and if you have are in a group where the moderator is being overly aggressive
- 23:33maybe that's not the right group for you
- 23:35and it's okay to leave groups
- 23:37you don't have to be in every single group
- 23:39that's one thing I Learned in the very beginning when I
- 23:41when I started this
- 23:43I needed to be in every Facebook group because I needed to know what everybody
- 23:46was doing and I couldn't miss a thing
- 23:49and I'm gonna tell you what I got
- 23:51I got a whole lot of drama a whole lot of confusion
- 23:55and and it caused
- 23:58some really bad relationships
- 24:01so you do not need to be in every group
- 24:03find one that fits you
- 24:04stay in that group and just hang and
- 24:07and you don't need to be in all of them because I promise you
- 24:09you won't miss anything
- 24:10because so many people post the exact same question in five groups
- 24:15yeah definitely I mean I'm I'm not in those groups
- 24:19but um I am in Elizabeth's but um
- 24:22I'm in other groups for other topics
- 24:23where it it is that they will blast
- 24:26the question in five different groups is the same person
- 24:29same question just paste paste paste
- 24:32and you're like oh brother
- 24:35sort all that information
- 24:37that's one thing I never understood why are you posting
- 24:39this in five groups how do you sort that information
- 24:42how I mean I I trust when I need advice
- 24:45I go to like two or three people that I trust
- 24:48to putting it out to a group of 2,000 people
- 24:51and then having to sort through all of that ooh
- 24:54that would make my head spin
- 24:56be careful of that be careful where you ask questions
- 24:59because you're gonna get stuff you didn't ask for
- 25:03that is also very true alright so as far as community
- 25:08pitfalls
- 25:08are there any other ones that you wanna discuss today
- 25:12I think those are kind of the big ones
- 25:14be careful where you put your effort
- 25:17you know be careful what you give your time to
- 25:19and and going back we can we've said this
- 25:22kind of throughout this whole series
- 25:23take care of yourself
- 25:26don't let ocular melanoma rule your life
- 25:30jump in jump out go to the groups
- 25:32when you need to you don't need to police
- 25:34them you don't need to be there for everybody
- 25:37please don't be that person
- 25:38either because you can't be everything to everybody
- 25:41um so the these are the problems
- 25:43in this community is that we all want to help each other
- 25:45so badly that
- 25:47we have to be careful we're not giving
- 25:49unsolicited advice
- 25:51we gotta be careful that we're not taking
- 25:52unsolicited advice
- 25:54we have to make sure that we're giving
- 25:56proper time to ocular melanoma
- 26:00because
- 26:00you don't want to give too much but you also don't want to put your head in the sand
- 26:03so you got to kind of strike a balance
- 26:05and maybe that's the gist of this whole thing is find your balance
- 26:09because the community can swallow you up
- 26:12and and as much as I love our community
- 26:15and the people that are so passionate you can be you
- 26:19you it can be unhealthy for some people not all people
- 26:21but it can be unhealthy for some people
- 26:24but I will say on a positive note
- 26:27that I have some of the best friends in this community
- 26:30I mean truly truly great friends and we talk
- 26:34we might not talk every day
- 26:35but when we do or when we see each other
- 26:38it's like we just pick right up and you couldn't
- 26:40ask for a better group in this community as long as
- 26:44you police yourself
- 26:46and you know you don't have to be everybody's friend
- 26:48you don't take everybody's advice
- 26:52yes very wise words and I I think just to
- 26:57touch on the balance piece that you said I think
- 27:00again with every aspect of your life finding balance is
- 27:03not always easy but it is
- 27:05so so needed we always need to balance everything
- 27:09um when we get out of balance
- 27:10that's when we get stressed when we get depressed when
- 27:13anything that's like kind of bad in your life
- 27:16try try looking at what's out of balance
- 27:18because you'll probably find something and if you can get that back into balance
- 27:22bring that harmony back in
- 27:25you might be able to
- 27:28fix a little bit of those
- 27:29those things that aren't going the way you want them to
- 27:31it also creates confusion you know and
- 27:35and so yeah you know it's okay when your friend says
- 27:39I had a friend
- 27:40who had breast cancer and they had chemotherapy
- 27:42you should go to their doctor and get chemotherapy
- 27:46no cause that does not work for this cancer but
- 27:49please understand
- 27:51smile and nod thank you so much smile and nod
- 27:54you're not gonna change their mind you're not gonna convince
- 27:57them they're gonna just keep on trying to get you to go
- 28:00to your their friend's breast cancer doctor
- 28:03for your eye cancer
- 28:04that you do not have breast cancer in so
- 28:08a lot of it is we have to sort
- 28:10ourselves out and even though people are
- 28:12are they mean well
- 28:14the advice is not always the best
- 28:18definitely
- 28:20alright everyone I hope you all have a wonderful week
