- 0:02This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me, covering one piece
- 0:13episodes five forty nine through five fifty one. A rift opens up Loofy versus
- 0:20Jimbae. Something has happened to Horty, the true power of the evil drug,
- 0:26and the battle is on at Concord Plaza. In these episodes, Jimby
- 0:35gives some reasons for keeping Lufy out of the fight that, like, I
- 0:41guess makes sense, but I'm not. I don't. I don't know,
- 0:46y'all. I really don't know if I if I think that what would happen
- 0:51if Lufi got involved is like the same as Jimba's. Welcome to take feedback
- 0:59on that. Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome to the show everyone. I
- 1:22am Natasha. Thank you very much to Michael for commissioning this episode. What's
- 1:26up, Michael, If you're out there, I appreciate you. Y'all.
- 1:33These episodes are full of surprises. I really thought I kind of knew how
- 1:40certain things were going to shake out, and they don't go that way at
- 1:44all. So the first thing that I want to talk about is jim Bay
- 1:49versus Loopy. The thing that you guys know, I last episode was sort
- 1:55of like, how can the two of them waste their time and energy on
- 2:01fighting each other when they have like a real enemy with the sort of time
- 2:07limit going on to deal with. And the answer to that is Jimbay thinks
- 2:14that if Loofy gets involved because Lufy is human, it's going to look bad
- 2:22and it's going to reinforce all of the terrible things that the fishmen of this
- 2:29island already have started to think about humans. He's basically like, we were
- 2:34finally able to collect enough signatures, and you come out swinging, even though
- 2:43it's at somebody who seems an enemy right now, and you are going to
- 2:50make them all kind of second guess signing it and want to take it back
- 2:57now, y'all. I am so conflicted on this. It's the sort of
- 3:01thing that I feel. On the one hand, I understand what he means.
- 3:09It's just extremely difficult for me to understand how when this man is holding
- 3:16the king hostage ready for execution, they wouldn't see Loofy as a hero.
- 3:23I just don't really buy that. I especially because Lufy and his friends have
- 3:31already met the king, and they have already met the princess who knows they
- 3:38think well of them for the most part, so you would have not only
- 3:45the fact that he saved the king, but then the actual king of this
- 3:51island telling everybody I invited him to the palace because I considered him an honored
- 3:58guest and he saved my life. I feel like that's just sort of that's
- 4:03just done. It's problem solved, you know, Florian says, I love
- 4:11how you are a lot. I don't know what to think. I felt
- 4:13the same. However, some of the fandom found this arc had too much
- 4:17race stuff in it. It's funny because like, how can it have too
- 4:23much when that's the point of all of the story. Like, I mean,
- 4:30I guess if you're saying like we shouldn't pursue this storyline at all,
- 4:35which I'm assuming is what they mean by that, But that feels incredibly shortsighted
- 4:44to me. That feels like you set this all up with our along and
- 4:48his hatred of humans long ago. People just didn't want a payoff on that.
- 4:54They didn't want to find what about the previous arc, Florian, because
- 4:58like, even though well it winds up becoming about the war of the Best,
- 5:03it all starts because of selling slaves and with an exclusive like zeroing in
- 5:11on the Mermaids and the Mermen and what happened to them, So like,
- 5:19genuinely, I I really don't know what people are hoping for. If this
- 5:27isn't like I feel like you're missing the point of some things, then how
- 5:33are they supposed to deal with a race based slavery system? And I guess
- 5:39it's unfair to call it completely race based, because humans are being sold as
- 5:44slaves as well, but it was much more geared towards mermaids and Mermen because
- 5:49they are a sort of I was gonna say, like a luxury item,
- 5:56and then I want to restrain myself. But you know what, I think
- 6:00that's accurate, So I'm gonna go ahead and say that. I just don't
- 6:06really feel like you can make that argument here and also know what the fuck
- 6:14you're talking about with the whole rest of the plot it. Florian says,
- 6:19Yeah, I feel like those are the people who are only here for the
- 6:21fights and don't see the overall story. Yeah. I look, I know
- 6:30I bring up Cradle a lot, and I do not apologize for that.
- 6:35If you haven't read the Cradle series and you are into one piece. You're
- 6:41gonna like it, Go do that. But there was a hot take that
- 6:46somebody shared from Reddit a couple of days ago, uh in the discord,
- 6:54and it was somebody who read a certain book from the series, a Cradle
- 6:59book, and they got really angry that the main character loses a bunch of
- 7:04fights in this particular book, and they basically acted as if it were an
- 7:12assassination of the character, that it was a waste of time to read it
- 7:17because he just gets beaten so often that it's like demoral. They completely sidestepped
- 7:25all of the incredible character development that happened and the strategic losses that this character
- 7:30knew were going to happen and decided to engage with because they were keeping their
- 7:35eyes on the big picture. There was just so much about that book that,
- 7:40in my opinion, made it one of the best in the series,
- 7:43and this person was just unwilling to see any of that. And I was
- 7:47kind of gratified when they got roundly dunked on by everybody on Reddit who was
- 7:54just like, are you twelve years old? Like what do you mean?
- 7:58You know? And I can't help but feel that way about this as well.
- 8:03If you feel like there's too much race stuff in this storyline. What
- 8:11are you wanting them to fight for? What bothers you about this? Then
- 8:18it feels for me like it's just I don't want anything that parallels the real
- 8:24world's problems because that's too heavy, And there's a lot of stuff that's kind
- 8:31of heavy in this show, like intermittently. I don't know, I just
- 8:35feel like that's a weird position to take. So yeah, I feel like,
- 8:41honestly that just within this opening I covered essentially everything that happens in the
- 8:48first of these three episodes. That's not true. But the thing that they
- 8:56did here, which is just always frustrating, they had Jimbay take absolute ages
- 9:05to get to the point about why he doesn't want Loofy to engage in the
- 9:11fight. So it's really frustrating because like it's the sort of thing that a
- 9:18lot I know that this is them sort of just sort of stretching things out
- 9:22there, trying to fill time, I guess. But the last episode ends
- 9:28with jim Bay just being like, you're not gonna get involved and cracking his
- 9:31knuckles and standing in front of Loofy in a way that just felt very much
- 9:37like he was being obstinate for the sake of it. And it's not until
- 9:43like halfway through this episode that we actually get an answer about why he feels
- 9:50that way. I didn't even know that there was a further like thesis behind
- 9:56why. I thought he was only concerned about the fact that Loofy wasn't going
- 10:01to be able to hold his own in the fight. That he was of
- 10:03the opinion that, like, you're going in there thinking that you're more capable
- 10:09against this guy than you are because you don't understand what the drug that he
- 10:15is using and how that affects things. And so I thought it was him
- 10:20maybe underestimating Lufy. Maybe it was like it maybe he is right, and
- 10:28I haven't seen everything that the drug can do yet. You know, there's
- 10:31there's all kinds of the fact that it turns out to be part of the
- 10:39race issue. Like I said, I appreciate that we're doing this because the
- 10:48show is trying to keep things sort of consistent and a little bit complicated,
- 10:54And I don't really mind that, you know what I mean, But it
- 11:00just for me feels like all of the contexts surrounding how our friends got here
- 11:07to me would just erase any concerns that he has about how this would go.
- 11:13They have the approval of the royals. I really think that's all you
- 11:18need. This would immediately clear things up with the princes, and the princes
- 11:24were the only ones that were sort of suspicious of the straw Hats, thinking
- 11:28they were taking these mermaids prisoner, and even them in these episodes, they
- 11:37eventually have a chat amongst themselves about how they don't seem like bad people actually,
- 11:45and maybe there's just been a sort of misunderstanding. There's just a lot
- 11:50of people who are having the backs of the straw Hats here. And I
- 11:58don't know if Jimbay is just unaware of that, if you know, because
- 12:05he wasn't with them. He's just been chilling here in the sea forest until
- 12:09they came to meet him. I don't really know how much he knows about
- 12:16what's gone down with all of them, but it just to me was sort
- 12:20of like you just are assuming a lot here. And if you see that
- 12:28Lufi's got the princess with him, and she seems to be on good terms
- 12:31with him. She came willingly, she wanted to do this and seems to
- 12:37have like some genuine affection for him. I feel like that should be evidence
- 12:45enough, even though he wasn't with them, you know what I'm saying.
- 12:48It just I don't know, guys, I'm just sort of frustrated by this
- 12:52because it's like it just feels like we're doing something to delay at all,
- 12:58just because we need to draw it, even though it doesn't really make sense
- 13:03or feel organic, et cetera, et cetera. So yeah, I'm I'm
- 13:09struggling with this a little bit. And it's fine, that's gonna happen.
- 13:13So let's talk about all of our guys that are still in the cage,
- 13:22oos up Brooke and Zoro. And this is so strange, you guys,
- 13:30I really kind of expected it, and you know, maybe this is my
- 13:35fault. I really kind of expected our guys to like have come up with
- 13:41some plan by now, to have like thought it through maybe, you know.
- 13:50And eventually Brooke does something. But in usual fashion for this show.
- 13:56And when I say this, I say it with the utmost affection. Really,
- 14:05the usual fashion for me is that somebody does something incredibly bonkers out of
- 14:13nowhere, and then they like explain it later, and we don't even the
- 14:20explanation is insufficient but I'm gonna jump into what that is, because our guys
- 14:26are just sort of like waiting for Zoro to come up with a plan.
- 14:31Who's like I, if I only had a sword then everything would be fine.
- 14:37I couldn't help but laugh because Usup's response to that is just I don't
- 14:41think that's true. Honestly, that really did make me lol, because he's
- 14:50right and Zorro is wrong, and that's just that on that, and finally
- 14:58Brookes says, well, well, since our outlook is so bleak, I
- 15:03didn't want to do this in front of you, but I guess I have
- 15:07to, and he begins chanting. Now. I wasn't watching this with the
- 15:15subtitles on when I first watched it. I have them on now, and
- 15:18it's not like the subtitles that are the Japanese translation subtitles. This is the
- 15:24actual dub subtitles, the dub titles, if you will. And it says
- 15:31that he is just chanting bone, bone, bone over and over again,
- 15:37which is hilarious, just objectively very funny. But in the audio, it
- 15:46doesn't sound like that's what he's saying. It sounds more like a drum beating.
- 15:52I knew it was him vocalizing, but it felt like there was almost
- 15:58an effect to put on his voice. It was really really cool sounding.
- 16:03Actually, I was sort of taken aback by how neat this was. And
- 16:08as he is saying this, and I'm like watching this happen, thinking to
- 16:11myself, what is what? All of a sudden, this like green mist
- 16:19begins to come out of his mouth, and a like skull shape appears with
- 16:27a sort of it's like the skull has a defined edge to it, but
- 16:33it's in a cloud of green that sort of suggests brooks afro a little bit.
- 16:40And it just turns and talks to them and says, and I'm out.
- 16:44And by the way, there's like a few other green sort of flaming
- 16:51It's like they're taking the shape of flames, but they look like smoke,
- 16:56and those are sort of hovering around him. I don't know if that's meant
- 17:00to imply that there is some sort of weapon that he can use with this,
- 17:04you know what I'm saying. But I was just really I couldn't help
- 17:12but lol at this because as he does this, both his friends like,
- 17:17he just says, I don't want to do this in front of you.
- 17:18He doesn't explain or warn them or anything. And then when when he does
- 17:26this and just turns back, of course, his friends scream as they should,
- 17:33and us Up says, when did you learn to do that? In
- 17:41the softest voice. I couldn't tell if this is supposed to be Brooke being
- 17:49genuinely curious what Oosop's asking, or if it was supposed to be Brooke is
- 17:56being really coy about this incredibly boss weapon that he now has ability if you
- 18:06don't want to call it a weapon, I suppose, But he just says,
- 18:14do what you mean, make my soul leave my body in this like
- 18:19very soft voice that I Brooke is such a weirdo, you guys. I
- 18:27kind of live for him as a character. If it weren't for what he
- 18:34says next, you knew that was coming right, yeah, my guys,
- 18:41Because then he immediately has to be like, well, if there's something that
- 18:47like a way for men to do this, you know that there's only one
- 18:51thing they're gonna go looking for. WHA I must we do this, y'all?
- 19:03I just want to know why we have to. I it's such a
- 19:11shame to me, genuinely, like it just throws cold water on everything every
- 19:19time it happens. The one thing I will say about all he doesn't get
- 19:26specific here. He just says, you just go looking for one thing.
- 19:30It's very clear what he means by that, but I will say at least
- 19:37it doesn't get specific. And we also get a lot less of Soanjy the
- 19:44hornball in these episodes as well. I have no doubt that will resurface,
- 19:49but as of right now it was pretty restrained. Sonji doesn't have a lot
- 19:56to do in these episodes except like sort of make an explanation about Lufy should
- 20:00be allowed to do what he wants essentially, so so I'll give I won't
- 20:08even I don't even want to say I'll give credit on that. More like
- 20:11I just found that to at least be a relief. But uh yeah,
- 20:17yeah, this was just you know, it's just so it just comes in
- 20:23and ruins these moments that are awesome otherwise, so Brookes says, it's a
- 20:30new trick. I was surprised and then and he says, like it happened
- 20:37quite suddenly because I had fallen into a slump. And we find out that
- 20:41his sales, like all of them, the tickets and his music, they
- 20:47were all on the decline, and we get to see a bunch of people
- 20:51talking about how like his concert wasn't that good, how they actually prefer his
- 20:56own music, and other people are being like I just don't feel his soul
- 21:00anymore, and I was like, huh, interesting, And we get his
- 21:07manager threatening him, saying you better pull it together or I'm cutting you off,
- 21:12basically like I won't manage you anymore. I have to admit, what
- 21:18does the manager do except just take some of Brooks's money? Like I kind
- 21:23of felt like Brooke probably should be on his own, like just you could
- 21:30do better. I have no doubt than the men who were about to enslave
- 21:33you and have two elbows like on each arm. But Brooke is like,
- 21:41well, dude, I can't just like throw music together. And I had
- 21:48to laugh at that because like hundreds of chart toppers beg to differ. But
- 21:55he says, let me write one last good song, please, God of
- 22:00Music bless me. And he's fallen to his knees and he's in this shaft
- 22:07of light with his hands clasped in front of him, and he says,
- 22:11all who hear it to their souls in a weird like turn of phrase that
- 22:17I wasn't really sure. I'm gonna rewind and see if that was. Grant
- 22:21me a melody. Ah, that's right here it is. I beg of
- 22:23you. Let me write one last good song, a melody that everyone will
- 22:30that will shake everyone who hear it to their souls. We have the sky
- 22:40open and there's like a rainbow sort of galaxy. Look, Brooke begins to
- 22:47sort of choke and then his soul just flies out and he has no idea
- 22:55what's going on? Can you imagine? I have got to say everybody on
- 23:02our team has their very unique sets of skills and abilities, and they all
- 23:08have their like learning curves with figuring out how to use them. But I
- 23:15feel like Brooke has gotten kind of the hardest hoe to row, row to
- 23:22hoe, you know what I'm saying. I just feel like, in terms
- 23:26of his overall ability being like, oh, yeah, I'm still alive in
- 23:32a skeleton body that's incredibly difficult to get used to and something that's going to
- 23:37take a lot of time and isolate you from a lot of people just based
- 23:42on how you look now, because a lot of the gumgum fruits don't really
- 23:47affect you your exterior. You can like begin to wear stuff that sort of
- 23:52reflects what you can do as accessories, but it's not like it's immediately apparent
- 23:59with a lot of people that they've eaten one. And I just feel like
- 24:03the weirdness of Brooks existence and having been all alone on that boat for so
- 24:11long and then this kind of Weirdoh shit, that's so esoteric. I'm just
- 24:18like, man, he really I feel like he's on hard mode. And
- 24:22he says it was frightening at first, but it really helped. With this
- 24:26new ability, came an epiphany. I finally realized what was missing from my
- 24:32music and how to get out of my slump. And when Zoro says,
- 24:41which was this is when his nose starts bleeding, and he says, it's
- 24:47actually pretty obvious when you think about it. If a man can go anywhere
- 24:52undetected, there's one thing he's going to go looking for. So I don't
- 24:59even understand what he means by this. Is he saying that, like,
- 25:06the thing that was missing from my music was objectifying women without their knowledge,
- 25:11and so I just inserted a bunch of lyrics about how sexy naked women are,
- 25:18and that became good music. All of a sudden, I don't even
- 25:22get what he's saying here, You guys, what does that mean? I
- 25:26feel like I'm being like I feel like it comes across as if I'm being
- 25:32purposely obtuse, and I really want to like, I'm not trying to be
- 25:37difficult here. I really genuinely do not understand. I feel like there's an
- 25:42implication that I'm supposed to get, but the whole thing has been done in
- 25:47such a roundabout way, and it or if it's like supposed to be that
- 25:52like seeing naked women inspired his music and it wasn't a like a direct like
- 26:00that was what was missing, but more like once I got horny, the
- 26:04soul came back into my music again. Is that it? Which is just
- 26:08really like really strange And unfortunately the most unfortunate part of this because we already
- 26:18know Brooke is a pervert and a creep, and I've kind of tried to
- 26:27come to terms with that. It hasn't fully worked, but I'm trying.
- 26:30But then after he says this, usup says he's so lucky, Zoro,
- 26:37why can't I be dead like he is? And I don't remember a time
- 26:44where usap was horny guys. And I may be really wrong on that.
- 26:51You may be able to point out several scenes for all I know, but
- 26:55I'm just saying, like, from where I'm sitting, I have often seen
- 27:00us up as the outside, like the only one that doesn't really sort of
- 27:07display this out of the boys a lot of the time. And I don't
- 27:11know if I'm misremembering giving him too much credit, you know, I don't
- 27:15know, but uh yeah, I felt like, come on us up.
- 27:19You were supposed to be sort of my cinnamon roll pure boy, and I
- 27:25can't believe that you're co signing this. Brooke meanwhile says oh, but the
- 27:32water's getting so high soon you will be dead like me and Usap says,
- 27:37well, then why don't you hurry up and do something about it, which
- 27:40is good advice. So then we get all of the talk with JIMBEI,
- 27:47which I've already gone over, and then we jump over to the the villagers.
- 27:52I don't even know if like this is that what I should call them.
- 27:55I'm gonna call them villagers. I'm sorry. Florine is in the chat
- 28:00and says, I think he needed a mouse and he saw some a mouse
- 28:08that's got to be a typo, but I do not know what it could
- 28:11have been that you were trying to say, I'm so sorry, And then
- 28:15Florian says, yeah, that is a weird moment for USUP, but maybe
- 28:18USUP is doing a quote I wish I was dead meme. I would like
- 28:23to think that, but I don't feel like the timing makes sense. I
- 28:27think it is just oos up co signing being old creep unfortunately. But anyway,
- 28:37okay, so, oh muse he needed a muse? Oh Florian,
- 28:47Okay, that actually when you frame it like that, like what really is
- 28:52a muse? But just like almost always a hot chick, that makes you
- 29:00like, that's just been what it's sort of short for historically speaking in media,
- 29:07I bet you're right. I didn't even think of that framing it in
- 29:15that way, but it's so wild, like you guys think about this that
- 29:19I was sort of like, you just wanted hot chicks to look at and
- 29:22that inspires you somehow, And I was so dismissive of it, but then
- 29:27you rephrase it as he needed a muse, and all of a sudden,
- 29:33I'm fully like, oh I get it, that makes sense. We have
- 29:36really like fucked our heads up with just calling things by a slightly different name
- 29:41and trying to make it seem as if it's like somehow artistic or more noble,
- 29:45and then it's okay when when it comes down to it, it's the
- 29:51same garbage. And I mean, honestly, I uh, I feel sometimes
- 29:59like I'm taking crazy pills when I step back from my own brain and realize
- 30:06the way that I can sort of rationalize things. But anyway, this is
- 30:12the point where the villagers have been harassing and I say harassing, but that's
- 30:18some unfair because it's the pirates that are harassing the villagers. But the villagers
- 30:22are beginning to really fight back and they are about to kill them. They
- 30:27have like beaten the shit out of uh, what do you call him?
- 30:33The what's the name of the guy who's like the the shark, the hammerhead
- 30:38shark, And so these villagers are about to kill him, and there's a
- 30:45real moment of like, you guys don't stand a chance against us. We're
- 30:52gonna take them all out. And all of a sudden here comes the Prince
- 30:56and he says, if you kill them, you or know better than they
- 31:00are, and we're gonna take them into custody, spare them their lives.
- 31:08You guys know my complicated feelings on this. I really it's the sort of
- 31:18thing that, like, the good guy almost always is required to say this
- 31:25sort of thing. And while I understand the like in inclination to make the
- 31:36good guy have this point of view, I have very little patience for it
- 31:42in the midst of certain plot points. And so what I'm saying here is
- 31:49my guy, your father is being held for execution. These people are all
- 31:57like fighting back very reasonably in my opinion, and here you are coming in
- 32:07and acting like you're no better than they are. They will stab you in
- 32:10the back the instant they get the chance. There's not even like a maybe
- 32:15on that, and him trying to sort of the whole idea to me of
- 32:22like that makes you know better than them. I never buy that. There
- 32:25is a difference in why you want to take someone's life, and that for
- 32:30me makes a really really big difference between you. You know, I think
- 32:37motivation counts for a lot. So there's that's true. Florine is pointing out,
- 32:45I feel like here it makes a little more sense because of their mother.
- 32:50You're correct, you know what, I take it back because you're right.
- 32:53That is like the main point that she made is don't kill out of
- 32:58vengeance, and that is sort of what it seems like they're about to do.
- 33:01I would argue that it's not even vengeance. It's a preventative measure,
- 33:08especially considering in a lot of cases, taking somebody like into custody, taking
- 33:15them hostage, whatever, is actually more difficult than just killing them. And
- 33:21so these dudes who were about to fight these pirates, they didn't have the
- 33:27princes right next to them when they started this whole thing. The princes are
- 33:30like, you know, sort of swoop in. So I don't blame them
- 33:34for just being like, I'm just let's just kill him. That'll make it
- 33:37easier. But yeah, the Prince insists here and tells his brothers to manage
- 33:42it. I've really grown to like his brothers a lot. It's like one
- 33:45of those moments where he the two of them are so weird looking that I
- 33:52sort of was anticipating, and I know that this is like sort of fucked
- 33:57up of me, but there it is. I was sort of anticipate that
- 34:00these guys were going to turn out to maybe be less awesome than their brother
- 34:07that it was going to be a sort of you know that the hot one
- 34:14is the good guy and then his like weird brothers are actually sort of corrupted,
- 34:19because that's a thing a lot when it's princesses. You've got like your
- 34:23main girl who's the pure hearted, beautiful one, and then the two like
- 34:31other sisters who are less hot and also really mean and terrible. And I'm
- 34:39glad to be wrong. I knew that they were obviously the previous episodes where
- 34:46they support their sister in the midst of everything with their mother dying. That's
- 34:51like a huge moment that solidified that for me. But I just wanted to
- 34:55address that. I sort of I was touched by that moment so much,
- 35:01partially because I had an expectation that I didn't even stop and think about,
- 35:07really, and I just kind of feel guilty about that and feel the need
- 35:13to address it. So, you know, we're all of our minds are
- 35:17poisoned, guys. What can I say? So? Uh, this is
- 35:23this is when the fucking hammerhead comes in. I thought it was previously,
- 35:27but no, he comes in to try and go up against Fukaboshi. Is
- 35:31that the Prince's name? Who is really disgusted that this guy is going to
- 35:37go up against other fishmen. He's just like I already thought it was disgusting
- 35:43that you were willing to harm humans, but going after other fishmen that is
- 35:49truly beyond the pale, and you should be fucking ashamed of yourself. I
- 35:52should mention too, that Fukuboshi has a it almost looks like a sort of
- 35:58mole in the center of his forehead, and I feel like that might be
- 36:02a marking that is like put on people in certain cultures. I know that
- 36:07there's like Bindi's, but I'm talking about an actual, almost like a scarring
- 36:12sort of effect. And I wasn't sure if that's what this is supposed to
- 36:15be or if it's something other. The way that the camera zooms in on
- 36:21his forehead and zooms in on that like marking. For a moment, I
- 36:25was like, am I supposed to take the power of his attack or his
- 36:30defense in here? Really comes from that? I don't know? But regardless,
- 36:37Yeah, our hammerhead dude comes after Fukabushi and really thinks that he's going
- 36:42to handle this shit, and he swings down on him and it gets blocked
- 36:49to a degree that it's actually also an attack, and the next thing we
- 36:53know, my guy is all trussed up along with all of his cohorts,
- 37:00and this leads to a kind of wild like the situation a little bit later
- 37:06on. But uh, then we jump over to Hordy and he's saying,
- 37:15like one of his men is asking, do you think we need to have
- 37:19somebody stay here and guard them? And he says, there's no need.
- 37:22There's nobody who can get through the gate, so all we need are people
- 37:28to be guarding the gate, and then you know, we'll be all set
- 37:32and you can't lock out the new king. I was. I guess it
- 37:38makes sense that they can't have guards around them, and we have to give
- 37:42a reason why they wouldn't do that. But to me, the way that
- 37:46the palace works and the way that it seems that you can approach it from
- 37:52so many different angles because it's underwater, I do not feel like this makes
- 37:59sense. But maybe it does. I don't know. Neptune is trying to
- 38:07tell him like, you're not gonna be respected as a king if you try
- 38:14and rule through violence, and Horty says, are those gonna be your last
- 38:19words? I'd have gone for something stronger, and he says that, and
- 38:24then there's a sort of like animation of a silvery slash across a black background,
- 38:31which I will not lie you guys. I thought that was Hordy killing
- 38:37King Neptune. I had a real moment of like, oh, because I'm
- 38:43sort of on the fence about whether King Neptune's getting executed. A part of
- 38:46me feels like, of course not. And then there's a part of me
- 38:51that feels as if the prince is being set up as such a competent ruler
- 38:59so that we can then get like him coming into his birthright and us feeling
- 39:06as an audience confident that he is able to handle this. And I may
- 39:13just I don't really want Neptune to die. I've grown to like him in
- 39:20a very short time. He's I don't know, I just sort of feel
- 39:23like an affection for him, So I don't really want that. And so
- 39:28when it seemed as if Horty was like, oh, those are your last
- 39:30words, lame, and then it seemed like you just killed him, I
- 39:34was like, oh, wow, this is just this has gone a different
- 39:37way than I expected. But it turns out that it's Horty's body that animation
- 39:45is supposed to give us a visual of like the pain that he's feeling internally,
- 39:52which I always am fascinated by this sort of like attempt to show a
- 39:59feeling via a visual medium only. And I think that there have been moments
- 40:07where I've experienced a type of pain where our light has seemed to flash behind
- 40:10my eyes, that sort of thing. So I actually really liked this once
- 40:14I understood what was going on. He like clutches his chest and he says
- 40:19that the scar is burning from where Zoro cut him, which I should mention
- 40:27that, like it's quite well healed already, so I guess that's part of
- 40:32the I don't know if that's like the drug that's healing him, or if
- 40:37it's him being a fish man and he heals a lot faster because then I
- 40:39don't recall. But either way, he wants more of this drug and he
- 40:45takes like a handful of them. He's very sloppy with it. To you,
- 40:49guys, I just want to say, like he takes a handful and
- 40:52he doesn't even try and get all of the ones he picked up in his
- 40:55hand into his mouth. He just sort of opens his mouth and then drops
- 40:59them at random onto his own face and whatever gets into his mouth. He's
- 41:04like, good enough. I was like, this feels like a pretty precious
- 41:08resource, my guy. I feel like you should be a little bit more
- 41:12careful with all of those, but nobody asks me. So he gets pumped
- 41:20up here again, and fully, you guys, I am watching this feeling
- 41:25very smug about the fact that the more of this he takes, it's going
- 41:30to have an effect on him and he's going to possibly die from it.
- 41:36There's just I don't feel a lot of doubt about where this is going,
- 41:43which made me very sheepish when things happen a little bit later. It doesn't
- 41:47quite happen here, but here, you know, he just gets pumped up
- 41:51again, and he's asked, like, what should we do with the straw
- 41:55hats? And he says nothing. They're just humans. They'll drown if left
- 42:00alone, and the palace is secure, so no one will be able to
- 42:02rescue them, regardless of who comes forget them. And I always laugh at
- 42:07this because the idea of just like it's like Doctor Evil when he's asked by
- 42:15his son, are you gonna kill them yourself? Or at least like stay
- 42:19and watch them die, and he's like, why don't you just shoot them?
- 42:23No, I'm going to put them in an easily escapable situation involving an
- 42:28overly elaborate and exotic death, And then well, you're not gonna stay and
- 42:32watch it, and he says no, no, no, I'm just going
- 42:36to leave and then assume everything went to plan what and his son just being
- 42:40like, here, I've got a gun. We can shoot him together.
- 42:44It'll be fun. And he's like trying to just like actually get a thing
- 42:47done. And that's sort of what I felt like here. It doesn't ring
- 42:52true because Horty is so bloodthirsty and hates humans so much that, especially if
- 42:59these people are part of the group that took down r along, he would
- 43:02absolutely want to kill them himself and make a big thing of it. Like,
- 43:07there's just I don't buy this at all in terms of character movement.
- 43:12It doesn't make any sense. I understand the need for it, but I
- 43:16just got to call it out here. So let's see when Brooke says,
- 43:23I think I found it, guys, a bright ray of hope. Those
- 43:27fishmen we were dealing with earlier have left, so the palace is completely empty
- 43:32or it would be if they hadn't left Papago behind. Now we just need
- 43:37to ask Papago to find the keys to get us out of the chains.
- 43:40And so Brooke has to go to Papago and your boy isn't taking it well.
- 43:47When Brooke appears, he really freaks out. Understandably. It's extremely creepy
- 43:54looking, and Brook's trying to be cheery and be like he keeps saying like,
- 43:59I've been looking for you and I found you at last, And when
- 44:01you don't know what it is that's coming at you, that sounds really really
- 44:05threatening. I don't really blame Papago for like just kind of losing his mind.
- 44:09And he tries to run away and they have him like literally hitting every
- 44:15pillar in the face on his way out, and Brooke is like, find
- 44:21the keys. Wait, no, the sword, go find the sword,
- 44:24go away. I don't know what you're talking about. You what if you
- 44:28just listen to me? Wait? And that is how that ends. So
- 44:36we have the fight between Lufy and Jimbay where they hit each other. They
- 44:42get interrupted by Robin and then Sangy jumps into the hole mix because he wants
- 44:47to save Robin because she's gonna be between them when they punch, but she
- 44:52manages to sort of step out of the way, and so both of them
- 44:57wind up punching each other and also sign it's a really weird setup. That's
- 45:01all I'm saying about this. And this is when Jim finally fucking explains the
- 45:10whole thing about the dynamic with Loofy stepping in, and Sanji says, Horty's
- 45:16gonna take the whole island if we don't do something soon, and we have
- 45:20a lot of friends that live here and you know, yaday. He makes
- 45:24a very good argument, and basically Jimbay is just like, oh, well,
- 45:30I'm still going to like stop you, and Lufy rightfully is very angry
- 45:37and says, he said all of that cool stuff, and you're still not
- 45:40gonna let me go. He's right, He's right to be angry about this.
- 45:49So the two of them once again facing off. I'm realizing that I
- 45:53spent like forty five minutes talking about only the first of the three episodes,
- 45:57but honestly, I'm talking about more than what just happens in the first episode,
- 46:02so I feel like it's valid. So we have like a bunch of
- 46:08different confrontations between various pirates and the townsfolk. One of them that really weird
- 46:17looking guy who I think is called Daroma. He chews through the walls of
- 46:22a factory and just makes it collapse. And he had asked for something to
- 46:30eat, and this guy brings him a lovely what looks to be like one
- 46:36of those rolled cakes, a Swiss roll I think those are called. I
- 46:38can't remember I should know this, but and like a cappuccino, and he
- 46:45just chucks the tray and says, I don't want some trendy cappuccino latte thing
- 46:50when I'm hungry. That junk's not real food. What in hell do I
- 46:54look like? And he then says, you're starting to look pretty tasty yourself
- 47:02for a snack. I like fishbones and I like him big, which did
- 47:07kind of make me go, Okay, is he a fishman himself or is
- 47:13he just meant to be some other creature that's teamed up with them? Is
- 47:15he a cannibal? In other words? Is what I'm asking, you know?
- 47:22But yeah, and he's just like apparently can just move through what amounts
- 47:28to solid stone like he's swimming through it. It's very weird, and the
- 47:32fact that none of them have ever seen this before is part of what's making
- 47:35me go like, is he actually a regular fishman because this isn't something that
- 47:39we have seen before. So this the oh here it is. Here's the
- 47:47thing with the Hammerhead Shark, because he is getting really depressed about the situation
- 48:00that they are currently in. And I just want to read this because it
- 48:05was a little confusing for me. Your plan isn't going to work, Boss
- 48:10Hordy would rather you cut us down some than negotiate. He's more ruthless than
- 48:15other fishman pirates. It's why he looks down Sun on the rest of us,
- 48:21and the other guys sitting around him are like, man, he's completely
- 48:29lost all of his ability to go on since being captured, and one of
- 48:31them says his power level has dropped to down Sun, which I was like,
- 48:37that's weird. You're just imitating his manner of speech. So he says,
- 48:42let me give him an energy steroid, and they have it on them
- 48:45and despite being tied up, they're able to spit one into his mouth somehow.
- 48:51So he's sitting there and he's still kind of talking about Hordy makes me
- 48:54frown son and as he's saying, this is the begin bulging out. Horty
- 49:00doesn't like fishermen who do business with human pirates. He'll give them the Bumpson
- 49:05without mercy, and somebody says Bumpson and I was I could not stop laughing,
- 49:12you guys. Normally these people's weird vocal tics go completely unacknowledged within the
- 49:17episode, So when somebody is like, what did he just say? I
- 49:22think that is hilarious. All those fishmen who donated their blood to help out
- 49:28wounded humans, he gave them the old Wumpson in the dark of night.
- 49:34Wumpson. Horny believes that human blood is naturally tainted, and whenever we receive
- 49:40their blood or offer them our own, we do sun our pure blood a
- 49:45disservice. He's back to saying, dooson now, So it's like, uh,
- 49:52yeah, is wild. This guy's eyes start glowing red and he is
- 49:55able to fully burst out of the chains that he is wrapped up in,
- 50:00which, uh, that's quite a bit of power up from this one pill.
- 50:07It makes a little bit of sense why Hordy is able to do some
- 50:12truly bonker shit later, But yeah, he becomes lethal again with his giant
- 50:21weird hammer and he's like, all right, men, I'm free. I
- 50:23freed you all, and now we're going the execution. I'm going to kind
- 50:28of speed through a lot of the rest of this particular episode because it's mostly
- 50:32us seeing all of the different like prime henchmen of Hordy and the way that
- 50:37they're rounding up or dealing with the townsfolk. So we have our guy who's
- 50:45drunk all the time, and they basically try and say he's too drunk to
- 50:49fight, and he proves them wrong by slicing a bunch of dudes down,
- 50:52which they're then like, why don't we just bring him somewhere where enemies are
- 50:55and so he can just flail at everybody around him and actually hit enemies.
- 51:01Then we have a particularly funny one with a chameleon guy where the townsfolk are
- 51:07like trying to fight him but they can't see him, and they're getting really
- 51:09frustrated because this is a very very unfair fight. And then they see a
- 51:15cockroach and somebody's like, quick kill it in the midst of this fight.
- 51:20That's their concern, which I thought was honestly valid. I hate cockroaches so
- 51:24much, and they stomp the shit out of it and continue waiting for the
- 51:30attack from this guy, and then nothing happens, and it takes them a
- 51:36minute before they're like, wait what, and he comes back into view because
- 51:43he just somehow was on the ground under where they stomped to get the cockroach,
- 51:50so they inadvertently stomped the shit out of his face, which made me
- 51:55lol because that is the dumbest joke, Like that doesn't there's no sense in
- 52:00it. I don't care. It was very very funny and very unexpected.
- 52:05I did not see that coming. So this is when we have the princes
- 52:12talking about the straw hats and how you know, I am going to keep
- 52:17them from murdering our father, and I'm going to stop the townsfolk from having
- 52:22their hearts and minds turned from everything that we have worked for. And they
- 52:29admit that there are some things that make sense now that they probably should have
- 52:32investigated a lot sooner that probably were due to Hordy's influence. And I did
- 52:39like this conversation, all of them just sort of like stepping back and being
- 52:43like, hmm, probably we should have seen this coming a little bit more.
- 52:46That doesn't happen very often in this show, and people being like,
- 52:52all right, you know what, I copped to it. I really made
- 52:54some mistakes and should have predicted some of this was going to go down.
- 53:01So eventually we have the guy with eight arms that they're gesturing with fire near
- 53:10him, and he freaks out because he thinks they're trying to fry him like
- 53:14Klamari and serve him with sake, and his guys are like, what do
- 53:19you even mean? Of course, that's not what we're trying to do.
- 53:22He's extremely paranoid and sensitive. Then we have the arrival in the plaza of
- 53:34Cordy and all of his men below him are sort of worried because they can
- 53:42see that he is beginning to sweat and collapse like he is not doing well.
- 53:47And the king realizes what's going on and he's like, this is taking
- 53:52your life for uce, dude, and Hordy just tells him to shut up,
- 53:55and his own men are like, dude, you're really pushing yourself way
- 54:02too hard. You gotta stop and take a rest. We've basically won already.
- 54:08We've got the king, we've got this whole place sewn up. It
- 54:14just sit back and let us take care of the rest of these things.
- 54:17And he doesn't want to do that. He's like curled up saying he's going
- 54:22to like that he can't breathe, and eventually he's just like, I want
- 54:28more of it, and he takes I think almost all of it that they
- 54:34have left, and it's just like as he begins to take it and that
- 54:40the transformation is happening, one of the guys is thinking what I am thinking,
- 54:49He's about to like die or something is going to happen to sort of
- 54:52like take him down. For a little while, I was so deeply wrong.
- 54:58I really thought this was gonna go oh the same way as Maria,
- 55:00and I think ultimately it will. But what happens in the meantime they use
- 55:07this wild like reddish sort of thing around the figures that take this pill.
- 55:14But his eyes also go bright red and he changes color entirely so that his
- 55:22hair is white as well, and he just overall has a way creepier look
- 55:30to him, and his men are just like, uh, something's wrong,
- 55:36and he starts smiling and it's just like, no, nothing's wrong. I
- 55:39feel better than I've ever felt. And he manages to literally like snap a
- 55:45finger and bring down the whole like all of the buildings in this surrounding area.
- 55:53He also looks like he's grown in height, but I can't tell if
- 55:58that's just supposed to be the we're looking at him from or if he is.
- 56:02He looks bigger to me, that's true, right, So then we
- 56:09go into the final episode and uh again, the like argument between Loofy and
- 56:20Jim Bay is still happening, while Horty's over here turning into a fucking maniac,
- 56:25and we have all of these different animals attacking the underwater animals. It's
- 56:35for me, this was sort of like, this wasn't as interesting as a
- 56:39lot of the other things that were going on, and I don't feel like
- 56:43I need to go over it because it's they're all beaten by the princess.
- 56:47Ultimately, the one thing I do want to touch on is Deccan Vanderdkin,
- 56:52who is crying over his like he's crying as if there was a breakup,
- 56:55but they never were together. So he's just really crying at the rejection of
- 57:00the princess, saying that he is not her type and is saying, like,
- 57:07my heart is broken. You guys don't know what I've been going through.
- 57:10And he says, I loved her from the moment I saw her.
- 57:15Sure, she was just a kid ill, but I knew if I married
- 57:20her, I could fulfill my ancestor's dream. They've really made this guy so
- 57:24extra creepy, and he comes to the conclusion that if I can't have her
- 57:30and I can't kill her, I am going to kill everyone else, which
- 57:40truly doesn't make sense. But also, there are plenty of guys out there
- 57:45who would react this way to rejection, so I can't even fault it because
- 57:51men are insane. So you know, Deuo's being rejected has resulted in the
- 57:55murder of many other people who were not in involved in the past, and
- 58:02that's just real life unfortunately. So it's weird because Vanderdeck is really not part
- 58:08of like the takeover. He is just solely here for the princess and doesn't
- 58:13seem to be at all interested in what's going on with Fishman Island, and
- 58:17so we really only go back to him very very occasionally. We have one
- 58:24dude who's like one of the last soldiers available, and he's got some sort
- 58:29of explosive on him that he's going to try and do a suicide bomb and
- 58:34he's spotted, and he's a little too far for most of them to do
- 58:37anything. But then Horty sees him and he does a technique water shot,
- 58:46and when he sends it, it goes right through the guy. It's not
- 58:52even like a bullet. It's more like a torpedo because it goes through the
- 58:59guy, through the cliff behind him, through several trees behind him, hits
- 59:06another cliff and goes through that And this is all happening as the man is
- 59:09still falling, so it's also traveling at an incredible rate of speed, and
- 59:15it finally comes to a stop like six cliff sides later, and I love
- 59:22it. One of the uh I think it's one of the pirates, is
- 59:25like, correct me if I'm wrong. But wasn't water shots supposed to be
- 59:31not that strong? It like keeps going through so many cliff sides that it
- 59:37eventually ends up on the side of the island with a bunch of mermaids who
- 59:39don't even know what it is, and they hear it and they're just sort
- 59:44of like, what is that? And then it just drops back into the
- 59:46ocean, which is actually a really cool way to end it that it's not
- 59:52a bullet that lands anywhere. It literally travels so far that it just ends
- 59:57up in the ocean on the other side. But yeah, this is a
- 1:00:02really incredible level up on his ability, Like what do you even do?
- 1:00:07I know that Lufy can withstand bullets, but there's something about this that I'm
- 1:00:12like, would that even work with this guy? You know? And then
- 1:00:15we also have like the bubbles that are like sort of a weak point,
- 1:00:24so I don't know how they're there's the confrontation between the Prince and Hordy,
- 1:00:39and you know, the Prince makes this like impassioned speech about giving humans a
- 1:00:45chance and trying to like change the future and not just continue doing the same
- 1:00:51shit we've always done, and Hordy just basically is like, give me a
- 1:00:57fucking break. You guys, this is so pitiful. You're thinking that you're
- 1:01:00being kind, but you're being an idiot. They have shown us time and
- 1:01:06time again what they're really made of, and when they beat the sea monsters,
- 1:01:10He's also like, that's really not a big deal. You think you
- 1:01:15did that that this makes you badass all of a sudden, and we see
- 1:01:19all of his guys behind him starting to take these pills as well, and
- 1:01:22then immediately launch from their place, except for the one drunk guy. He
- 1:01:28does eventually, but he's always last, which I think is a nice touch.
- 1:01:34And all they have to do to these princes, they don't even need
- 1:01:38to kill them. All they need to do is just pop the bubble that
- 1:01:43is supporting them and their movement through the air, and they just go down.
- 1:01:47Which what a weak point that is, really, I mean, that's
- 1:01:54a pretty huge Achilles heel. You guys like I didn't even consider how this
- 1:02:01is our main attack, and I mean, that's I feel like we should
- 1:02:08have come up with a better way of doing all of this by now then,
- 1:02:13but it is what it is, I suppose. Yikes though. So
- 1:02:21yeah, So that's the end of the episodes. But I like these three.
- 1:02:23There's a lot going on and there's some interesting questions that you can argue
- 1:02:29over. I'm always a fan of that. I just also I was taken
- 1:02:32so off guard by Hoordy just turning into a fucking mutant hulk. So all
- 1:02:38right, guys, I'm gonna wrap this up, But thank you so much
- 1:02:40for listening. Thank you Michael also for commissioning this. Thank you Florine for
- 1:02:45coming into the chat and chatting with me and giving me some good things to
- 1:02:49think about with some of my my hang ups on this episode. I appreciate
- 1:02:53you and until next time TU THELU motherfuckers that was an unspoiled network
