- 0:34Speaker 1: on an obviously corrupt and ras cast and we chopped
- 0:40Speaker 1: it up. Very interesting conversation, to say the least. It

- 1:13Speaker 1: We got a special guest man, this guy someone who
- 1:16Speaker 1: is a legend, someone who I remember the trip to
- 1:22Speaker 1: the Warehouse record store when I bought your first album
- 1:27Speaker 1: and that was it ninety seven? It was it ninety eight. Well,
- 1:32Speaker 1: if you bought a single would have been in ninety seven. No,
- 1:34Speaker 1: it was the album, so it was ninety eight, ninety eight, Yeah,
- 1:37Speaker 1: number eighth. Yeah. I always play my like I'm driving
- 1:41Speaker 1: in the car and when my son tries to yell
- 1:44Speaker 1: at me for saying the word retarded, I play your
- 1:47Speaker 1: song and I'm like, yo, there is a fucking song
- 1:50Speaker 1: called get retarded when I was a kid. So fuck off.
- 1:53Speaker 1: We from different eRASS, you know what I mean. But man,
- 1:56Speaker 1: welcome cannabis the legend. Yes, sir, you got a new
- 1:59Speaker 1: album out too. Yeah yeah, Kaiju right, Kaiju Kaiju? So
- 2:06Speaker 1: ask me what you want to know about? Yeah, what
- 2:09Speaker 1: is what is the what's what's that's what's tell us
- 2:11Speaker 1: about the title. Well, first of all, start there. Yeah,
- 2:13Speaker 1: pretty much. Kaiju was so that that's the that's the
- 2:17Speaker 1: word or the term that was coined to uh, pretty much,
- 2:22Speaker 1: you know, the umbrella for all those like those gods
- 2:25Speaker 1: Zilla movies, those big monster movies, you know, you know,
- 2:29Speaker 1: Japanese folklore and uh, you know before all the animations
- 2:34Speaker 1: panimations you had. We grew up on it. I mean,
- 2:37Speaker 1: I don't know where you were born. I was born
- 2:39Speaker 1: in eighty seven. No, I was I was born in
- 2:41Speaker 1: eighty seven. You were old enough definitely to like, on
- 2:44Speaker 1: a Saturday, you know, get up and see like all
- 2:46Speaker 1: of these you know, all the stuff going on on
- 2:48Speaker 1: a Saturday with after the cartoons of course, they go
- 2:51Speaker 1: through the you know, the Mystery Science Theater and they
- 2:54Speaker 1: and all of these. So Kaiju is the name that
- 2:58Speaker 1: it embodies all of those types of films. Free it
- 3:03Speaker 1: means big, means like monster some monster shit. Yeah. Well yeah,
- 3:07Speaker 1: but sometimes the monsters were good guys though, So I
- 3:10Speaker 1: don't know if they were monsters you know all the way.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Sometimes they were good guys. Just sometimes you need a
- 3:16Speaker 1: really big fix for a big problem. Right, So cads,
- 3:19Speaker 1: you I'm a good monster. I feel like you've been
- 3:22Speaker 1: extremely like you know you also the Horsemen project. Finally
- 3:27Speaker 1: we got that right, shout out to the Horseman team.
- 3:29Speaker 1: That's right, it's been a long time coming. I just
- 3:32Speaker 1: I feel like you you you come in and out
- 3:34Speaker 1: of hip hop, like we won't hear from you, and
- 3:37Speaker 1: then we'll be like, oh shit, there's there's a Horseman album,
- 3:39Speaker 1: or there's a new Cannabis album, or like, you know,
- 3:43Speaker 1: you're what I like to call it. I always say
- 3:46Speaker 1: that there's a few Jedies in the rap game, and
- 3:48Speaker 1: I think you are one of the Jedies when it
- 3:50Speaker 1: comes to just your abilities when it comes to this
- 3:53Speaker 1: rap shit, Like how passionate are you about making music still?
- 3:59Speaker 1: So that's a big complishment. I really appreciate you even
- 4:03Speaker 1: saying it's a big compliment, man, pretty much, huge compliment.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I was a Star Wars fan growing up. You know,
- 4:09Speaker 1: you know there's a few there's there's a handful of
- 4:11Speaker 1: Jedis in the one of them, man is. But to
- 4:15Speaker 1: be one of them, it's a lot. It's a lot
- 4:17Speaker 1: of pressure to even take on that title, right, So
- 4:20Speaker 1: I can't really I can't take credit for it. I
- 4:22Speaker 1: can't take on that title. But to even be considered
- 4:25Speaker 1: and you know, have my name in the hat. It's
- 4:27Speaker 1: a big deal to me. And that's the way I
- 4:29Speaker 1: kind of kind of run through it now in my mind.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And also in practice where hip hop, you know, the
- 4:40Speaker 1: real moguls out there, the ones who make all the decisions,
- 4:43Speaker 1: you know, the taste makers, the kingmakers, those are I
- 4:47Speaker 1: guess the real jedis Man because they were able to
- 4:50Speaker 1: maneuver through a lot of the bear traps, a lot
- 4:53Speaker 1: of the you know a lot of the things that
- 4:56Speaker 1: were set up to like derail artists who had certain
- 5:00Speaker 1: certain elements to them that maybe you know, was wasn't
- 5:03Speaker 1: uh you know, you know it wasn't wasn't mainstream ready, right,
- 5:07Speaker 1: you know, certain little facets of people in their music
- 5:10Speaker 1: that you know, the system didn't really want to. I mean,
- 5:14Speaker 1: if we take it back to the days of like
- 5:15Speaker 1: n w A right, the title is an acronym y
- 5:19Speaker 1: because at that time, no one was able to handle
- 5:22Speaker 1: with the name really meant actually you know what I mean.
- 5:26Speaker 1: And then I mean, look at there's that album from
- 5:28Speaker 1: Nas right there, which originally wasn't going to be called
- 5:30Speaker 1: n Okay. Yeah, album was going to be called you
- 5:33Speaker 1: know the Hard R. So you and I we we
- 5:37Speaker 1: were participating in the culture at the time when we
- 5:41Speaker 1: couldn't even say the things that people say. Now, we
- 5:44Speaker 1: kind of took all the heat from making it possible
- 5:47Speaker 1: to say whatever the hell you want and express yourself.
- 5:50Speaker 1: And so, you know, like I said, the Moguls are
- 5:55Speaker 1: probably the real Jedi. We're like me and myself. The
- 5:58Speaker 1: Mogos can't craft a thirty two bar verse like you can.
- 6:03Speaker 1: You know what I just mean in terms of like
- 6:05Speaker 1: your abilities, you're you know, like when we think of
- 6:07Speaker 1: like NBA two K and we look at someone's rankings,
- 6:11Speaker 1: like your rapping ability is like a ninety nine. You know,
- 6:14Speaker 1: it's not. Look, I really do appreciate you and for
- 6:17Speaker 1: saying that, and I appreciate that, and I appreciate you know,
- 6:20Speaker 1: the fans, the Brotherhood, people that you know say it
- 6:23Speaker 1: out loud, they think it out loud. But like I said,
- 6:26Speaker 1: the moguls in my mind, the moguls like the people
- 6:30Speaker 1: who are on the phone twenty four hours a day, Like,
- 6:35Speaker 1: just give you an example of it, like a Jedi
- 6:36Speaker 1: to me, that would be liked. And yeah, because without
- 6:41Speaker 1: without people like that, your record doesn't see the light
- 6:45Speaker 1: of day. See what I'm trying to say, yeah, because
- 6:48Speaker 1: you know, some if we if we, if we use
- 6:51Speaker 1: your you know, your perspective, want then these Jedis, man,
- 6:56Speaker 1: these Jedis can't even get their record played. These Jedis
- 6:59Speaker 1: can't get an interview right now. These Jedis can't make
- 7:01Speaker 1: you get what I'm trying to say. That's that's why,
- 7:05Speaker 1: that's why we you know, that's why I just fall back,
- 7:08Speaker 1: you know, stay in my lane now. I enjoy it,
- 7:12Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Life is not all rap,
- 7:14Speaker 1: no matter what people think. You know what I mean,
- 7:16Speaker 1: and just spread it out and try to, you know,
- 7:18Speaker 1: try to try to try to get the best of
- 7:20Speaker 1: what's what's left for us. You know, we're all we're
- 7:22Speaker 1: all like nearing half a century now, everybody for my era,
- 7:26Speaker 1: well near half a century. So you know, you just
- 7:29Speaker 1: said life isn't all rap. And I feel like you
- 7:32Speaker 1: are somebody who embraced that concept relatively early on in
- 7:37Speaker 1: your career. It was all rap for me, but I
- 7:39Speaker 1: mean for somebody who was so dedicated to being right
- 7:44Speaker 1: to your craft, right like I feel like you know,
- 7:48Speaker 1: you know, I feel like you know, when you enlisted
- 7:50Speaker 1: and to join the you know, the armed services. Like,
- 7:55Speaker 1: sometimes you get so wrapped up in perception, you know,
- 7:59Speaker 1: the hip hip hop is all about perception, right, Like
- 8:02Speaker 1: when we like I had a you know, I'm real
- 8:05Speaker 1: cool with Little Brother, Okay, so uh, big rapper Big
- 8:09Speaker 1: Pooh and Fonte a couple of other jedis right, but
- 8:13Speaker 1: Big Pooh you know, openly talked about her. He was
- 8:15Speaker 1: driving uber, you know, just for some money on the scrip,
- 8:18Speaker 1: and like to me, it was like, yeah, that's that's okay,
- 8:21Speaker 1: because this is not We're all real, real human beings,
- 8:26Speaker 1: and sometimes we get so wrapped up in like perception,
- 8:30Speaker 1: because that's really what the hip hop game is. It's
- 8:32Speaker 1: like it's kind of like it's like it's like a
- 8:33Speaker 1: weird like here sport and I feel like you kind
- 8:35Speaker 1: of exist in your own world where you can come in,
- 8:38Speaker 1: drop an album, yeah, and then we might not hear
- 8:41Speaker 1: from you for like another year, you know what I mean?
- 8:43Speaker 1: Like why or how it was like that? That's a
- 8:45Speaker 1: little bit about my pay grade to even try to
- 8:48Speaker 1: quantify how it got like that. But I feel like
- 8:51Speaker 1: at all times, I feel like at all times, all
- 8:56Speaker 1: of the artists that come from our era multitasking. I mean,
- 9:00Speaker 1: you know, a lot of us come from single parent
- 9:02Speaker 1: at homes, you know what I mean, Like we were
- 9:04Speaker 1: all doing things that we were able to multitask and
- 9:09Speaker 1: you know, helping Mama pay the bills, or helping grandma
- 9:12Speaker 1: you know, get this together, and you know, helping Grandpa
- 9:15Speaker 1: going down. We all from my error, We came from that, right,
- 9:19Speaker 1: And I'm talking about the things that are favorable and
- 9:22Speaker 1: the things that are not so favorable. Right. He did
- 9:24Speaker 1: whatever it took to you know, make o make our
- 9:27Speaker 1: family proud, or you know, bring home the bacon, right.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And so you know, I think that during our eraror
- 9:35Speaker 1: we were all able to jump rope in a lot
- 9:37Speaker 1: of different ways. You probably had to too, right because
- 9:41Speaker 1: the deals back then were a lot more predatory as well. Yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 1: but I mean when it look even when time to
- 9:46Speaker 1: go to like sam ash or jur Music World or
- 9:50Speaker 1: you know, uh, you know, you know the Guitar Center. Right. Remember,
- 9:54Speaker 1: we were the ones that the kid the machines, these
- 9:56Speaker 1: drumming sheines, and we were the ones that would take
- 9:58Speaker 1: the dis equipment showing what it could really do. Right.
- 10:02Speaker 1: They didn't have anybody else who could even work these
- 10:05Speaker 1: machines out the way that we could, but you still
- 10:07Speaker 1: had to buy it. Man. You still had to put
- 10:09Speaker 1: plastic onto somebody that had to come in here and
- 10:11Speaker 1: out of co sign it. Or you work in one, two,
- 10:13Speaker 1: three jobs to get the cash. Or you know a
- 10:16Speaker 1: homie that is already getting it like that and he'll
- 10:18Speaker 1: spot you the bread to go, get the equipment to go,
- 10:20Speaker 1: make the samples to go, make the demos to go
- 10:22Speaker 1: get you know, make the deal. You see what I'm
- 10:24Speaker 1: trying to say. There were always multiple steps that had
- 10:27Speaker 1: to be taken to get on. So paying dues was
- 10:30Speaker 1: not a short It wasn't a short term thing. Man,
- 10:33Speaker 1: Like you kind of were in it before you knew
- 10:36Speaker 1: what it was about what you were trying to get to.
- 10:40Speaker 1: You were looking at it through a telescope. When you
- 10:43Speaker 1: got to it, you realize that that role was a
- 10:45Speaker 1: little bit more arduous than you thought it was. And so,
- 10:49Speaker 1: like I said, man, I just feel like we all
- 10:51Speaker 1: were doing more at that time to get on. We
- 10:54Speaker 1: were all more we have more solid footing when we
- 10:57Speaker 1: got there. But as we grew, so did the majors.
- 11:00Speaker 1: So did those that you know paid our checks, those
- 11:03Speaker 1: the buildings that we kept the lights on and they
- 11:05Speaker 1: also grew, and I guess at some time they started,
- 11:08Speaker 1: you know, they had to cut weight, right, They had to.
- 11:11Speaker 1: When it was time for them to get into a
- 11:13Speaker 1: championship fight, they had to cut weight. And so when
- 11:16Speaker 1: they cut weight, they would they would always cut what
- 11:19Speaker 1: maybe wasn't keeping the lights on as long, right, And
- 11:23Speaker 1: obviously that's going to always gravitate back towards branding, right.
- 11:27Speaker 1: And the people who were branding were the corporate guys,
- 11:30Speaker 1: you know, the clothing manufacturers and stuff like that. And
- 11:33Speaker 1: funny enough because here we are again right back into this.
- 11:37Speaker 1: You know a lot of new things that are coming out,
- 11:39Speaker 1: they need people to brand it. But they don't need
- 11:41Speaker 1: rap anymore. Now. All they need is social media. We
- 11:45Speaker 1: were hip hop. We were the world's first social media. Yeah,
- 11:48Speaker 1: rap was, Yeah, for sure. You guys are at the
- 11:50Speaker 1: first influencers. You were the first man. Because you think
- 11:52Speaker 1: about it, nowadays, you just find someone who's got you know,
- 11:54Speaker 1: some kids who's got fifteen million followers on TikTok. It
- 11:58Speaker 1: doesn't really have a talent, but they can pop your
- 12:00Speaker 1: ship off. Back then, you needed Ray Kwan to wear Tommy,
- 12:04Speaker 1: you know what I mean. You needed jay Z to
- 12:07Speaker 1: pop your crystal. You know what I mean? Now, you
- 12:10Speaker 1: just like, yeah, it's crazy. You know it's crazy because
- 12:16Speaker 1: I feel like you when we you know, and maybe
- 12:20Speaker 1: would know this, we always hear of the lyrical spiritual
- 12:23Speaker 1: miracle rappers. You've heard that term, right. I feel like
- 12:28Speaker 1: you are the quintessential when we think of the lyrical spirits.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I feel like when people say that I think of cannabis.
- 12:36Speaker 1: You have so many intricate Ryan Patterson, fucking the vocabulary
- 12:39Speaker 1: is insane. You're fucking I feel like sometimes I'll be
- 12:41Speaker 1: hearing you wrapping. It's like math problems and all kinds
- 12:44Speaker 1: of algorithmic shit going on. Like I feel like you
- 12:48Speaker 1: are that guy, Like what do you like explain to
- 12:51Speaker 1: me your writing process. So in the beginning, it's funny
- 12:54Speaker 1: you say that because in the beginning, we were all
- 12:57Speaker 1: lyrical miracle guys, right, you know what I'm saying. And
- 13:00Speaker 1: but then because that's what we get on if we
- 13:02Speaker 1: just say lyrical, because you know, you're saying lyrical, so
- 13:04Speaker 1: you're look at the next words around with lyrical, you
- 13:06Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So the lyrical miracles, spiritual individual
- 13:09Speaker 1: that we were all that in the beginning, all of
- 13:11Speaker 1: us were then and then it got to the point
- 13:15Speaker 1: where some artists came out and they were more you know,
- 13:18Speaker 1: to the to that the blink I'm not I'm not
- 13:21Speaker 1: singling out you know, shout out the cash money, but
- 13:24Speaker 1: I'm not singling them out blink the bling phase because
- 13:27Speaker 1: they started to bring error, right. So when so when
- 13:29Speaker 1: the blink ra came and so much bread was being
- 13:31Speaker 1: made from it that you know, everybody started getting bread
- 13:35Speaker 1: on that side of things. And then the lyrical miracle
- 13:38Speaker 1: dudes was just the backpackers, you know, and they lyrical
- 13:41Speaker 1: miracle dues broke and they had nothing. So then you
- 13:44Speaker 1: found dudes there were lyrical miracles, you know, laughing at
- 13:48Speaker 1: other lyrical miracles. Wait a minute, there was a yeah, yeah,
- 13:53Speaker 1: and then and then and then and then and then.
- 13:55Speaker 1: So one of my homies does he doesn't say the
- 13:58Speaker 1: lyrical miracle, he's with the fly died with tired eyed,
- 14:01Speaker 1: with mind die. Yeah, So that's what that's what it became.
- 14:05Speaker 1: And you know, it's kind of crazy when you got
- 14:09Speaker 1: your own you know, dudes come from the same cloth,
- 14:11Speaker 1: you know, rhym ability wise, laughing at the lyrical miracles.
- 14:15Speaker 1: So then because you know, the machine helped them get
- 14:18Speaker 1: the bread. You can't get the bread, and then certain
- 14:21Speaker 1: things started happening. So yeah, man, I mean, you know,
- 14:26Speaker 1: I was happy to graduate out of the lyrical miracle
- 14:29Speaker 1: phase because it was a phase we all go through.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Then I got into the poetry and I did that
- 14:34Speaker 1: probably circle around what I say for whom to be
- 14:37Speaker 1: Tolls seven. That's when it got to where the rhymes
- 14:42Speaker 1: that were coming out of my mouth no one could
- 14:44Speaker 1: shadow them. You didn't know what I was gonna say next,
- 14:48Speaker 1: because you know, lyrical wasn't going round with miracle. I
- 14:52Speaker 1: was gonna make lyrical rhyme with mo libd in them,
- 14:58Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So yeah, but that that
- 15:01Speaker 1: lyrical miracle era was fun. I just think like I think,
- 15:04Speaker 1: like you know, I guess since since uh you know,
- 15:09Speaker 1: I think if your era was like guys like yourself,
- 15:11Speaker 1: like like Raz like obviously a guy who's a partner
- 15:14Speaker 1: in the Horseman shout to rationals, make sure this friend's amazing.
- 15:18Speaker 1: But then I think even after that, like I think
- 15:21Speaker 1: of like at least on the forefront commercially wise, like
- 15:24Speaker 1: I think Loupe is one of those guys who's just
- 15:26Speaker 1: like a fucking alien. You know, they didn't let us
- 15:30Speaker 1: have a lane though, like they we had a lane
- 15:33Speaker 1: and no one set up an HOV lane force. There
- 15:37Speaker 1: was no hov lane force. We were we were still
- 15:41Speaker 1: getting in and out of lanes and really had no place.
- 15:44Speaker 1: There was no home for us, you know, yeah, no
- 15:47Speaker 1: for sure. And you know what's crazy is like we
- 15:49Speaker 1: think back, like what you just said, there was lyrical
- 15:52Speaker 1: guys calling out lyrics like there was a divide, And
- 15:56Speaker 1: I think back to how crazy it was when con
- 16:00Speaker 1: Ye West put Talib quality or I'm sorry when jay
- 16:05Speaker 1: Z put Tallip Quali in that when he said I'd
- 16:08Speaker 1: probably be lyrically taylib Kwali And I'm like yo to
- 16:12Speaker 1: think that there was a point in time where we
- 16:14Speaker 1: thought that jay Z and Talib were so far apart
- 16:18Speaker 1: when they aren't at all, and like you know it,
- 16:24Speaker 1: or when Most Deaf and Freeway were put on that
- 16:27Speaker 1: record up to was it two words right at the
- 16:29Speaker 1: end of college Dropout by Kanye West. It was so
- 16:32Speaker 1: weird because it felt like Kanye brought two worlds together,
- 16:36Speaker 1: Most Deaf and Freeway when in gen like they're they're
- 16:40Speaker 1: the same shit. But that's where things are so different now,
- 16:43Speaker 1: because now there's like real serious divides in hip hop
- 16:47Speaker 1: as far as like, you know, back then, it was like, hey,
- 16:49Speaker 1: it's just somebody happened to have a commercial record deal
- 16:51Speaker 1: and maybe have a club record. But at the same time,
- 16:57Speaker 1: you know, racist records felt so far away from rock
- 17:00Speaker 1: Fellow restaurants, but they weren't really were they really like no,
- 17:03Speaker 1: of course not like and even then, like you mentioned
- 17:05Speaker 1: cash Money, like Little Wayne's one of the greatest rappers
- 17:07Speaker 1: of all time, absolutely, you know what I mean. But
- 17:10Speaker 1: when you heard the Rockers records though, like, but the
- 17:12Speaker 1: owner of that at the time, it's like it's like
- 17:14Speaker 1: a super mongul and but no one knew that though, right,
- 17:20Speaker 1: No one knew that. So it just felt like there
- 17:22Speaker 1: was this huge divide between like the backpack shit, the
- 17:25Speaker 1: you know, we would consider the quote unquote real hip
- 17:27Speaker 1: hop R and the commercial shit, which was also real
- 17:30Speaker 1: hip hop. Like now I feel like there is a
- 17:33Speaker 1: serious like, you know, at least maybe not as much
- 17:36Speaker 1: anymore as there was like a few years ago when
- 17:38Speaker 1: the SoundCloud shit really went crazy and Little Pump was
- 17:41Speaker 1: fucking huge, and I was really like, Okay, I'm old, right, Yeah,
- 17:46Speaker 1: I feel you know, but I do think it's dope
- 17:48Speaker 1: that now, no matter what, the last ten to twelve years,
- 17:54Speaker 1: the top four guys are all amazing. Drake J Cole,
- 17:59Speaker 1: Kendrick Lamar, these guys are all absolutely Yeah, these guys
- 18:03Speaker 1: are all like at the forefront of hip hop, right,
- 18:06Speaker 1: and they're all extremely high level, high caliber talented rappers
- 18:12Speaker 1: keeping the lights on as well, right, Yeah, they keep
- 18:14Speaker 1: the lights on at every label that they're at. But
- 18:16Speaker 1: they also are incredibly talented. So I think it just
- 18:19Speaker 1: says that like, no matter what, like there might be
- 18:21Speaker 1: eras where people come and go, but that the cream
- 18:24Speaker 1: is always gonna rusch to the top and be the constant,
- 18:26Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Right, who are you a
- 18:28Speaker 1: fan of? Like, who do you listen to that's you know,
- 18:32Speaker 1: maybe not from your era, that's a little bit newer
- 18:33Speaker 1: that like you really respect As far as on the mic,
- 18:36Speaker 1: I mean, you know, got to tell you, man, it
- 18:40Speaker 1: just it just ranges. Man, It depends on who. Like
- 18:44Speaker 1: baby might come on, niece's nephews to come over the house.
- 18:46Speaker 1: They're playing stuff you know they want to listen to
- 18:49Speaker 1: that you know, I might have to sit and lend
- 18:51Speaker 1: an ear to it because you know, watching over them
- 18:54Speaker 1: for a little bit, right and you hear the music
- 18:57Speaker 1: and what they're saying, Like the delivery now is a
- 19:02Speaker 1: lot tighter from these little younger than it was when
- 19:05Speaker 1: we were coming up. Oh yeah, man, yeah, the melodics
- 19:08Speaker 1: is amazing. People are making great records right now. They're
- 19:11Speaker 1: making good records. But also you know, and content wise,
- 19:16Speaker 1: I want to make the distinction, like they don't have
- 19:17Speaker 1: enough experience to make the poetry that that the area,
- 19:21Speaker 1: enough life, enough life experiences. There's no way and no
- 19:24Speaker 1: way for them to put that kind of poetry together.
- 19:28Speaker 1: They'll get there, but in so far as the delivery,
- 19:31Speaker 1: you know, it amazes me even how they're able to
- 19:35Speaker 1: do that. And some of them don't have any classical
- 19:38Speaker 1: musical training, Like they don't even know people talking about
- 19:42Speaker 1: bars and don't believe you know, what the bar is, right,
- 19:45Speaker 1: So that's always going to be something that you got
- 19:47Speaker 1: to look at, you know, raise a brow or two
- 19:50Speaker 1: to know that. I guess they're just born with it now,
- 19:54Speaker 1: like instinctually they come out the womb and they have
- 19:57Speaker 1: a metronome that they can follow, and they can double time.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I'm just on que they can double time. They can
- 20:03Speaker 1: you know they can switch up to time signatures. Like
- 20:05Speaker 1: what they do now is amazing. But like I said,
- 20:09Speaker 1: the older generation when it maybe look you know, if
- 20:13Speaker 1: they were looking for anything from the newer generation, the
- 20:15Speaker 1: ladies generation, they'll be looking for, you know, certain things
- 20:18Speaker 1: content wise, but you know they can't provide that yet.
- 20:23Speaker 1: But they'll get there. And then when they get there,
- 20:25Speaker 1: the next graduating class will be coming in and they'll
- 20:28Speaker 1: be speaking about something they'll probably be delivering, you know,
- 20:31Speaker 1: through some kind of AI metaverse. You know what I'm saying.
- 20:33Speaker 1: People rhyming with the goggles on for sure. I mean,
- 20:36Speaker 1: and once you got that and you got backgrounds going on,
- 20:39Speaker 1: and you got now you know, who can compete with that,
- 20:42Speaker 1: right because visually you're giving whatever consumers at that time
- 20:46Speaker 1: is going to be looking You're giving them something that
- 20:49Speaker 1: you know, the eraror that we're looking at now that's
- 20:51Speaker 1: maybe two behind us. They wouldn't even be able to
- 20:54Speaker 1: compete with them. So this is this is a cyclical cycle,
- 20:58Speaker 1: you know, cyclical, it's going to continue you on and on.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I really I look at it as like an observer
- 21:03Speaker 1: man from the outside. Man, I just I just break
- 21:06Speaker 1: out the popcorn. Bro. I'm say, when you're listening to music,
- 21:08Speaker 1: you're still listening to a lot of hip hop. Not really,
- 21:11Speaker 1: not really man, you know what I'm saying. I throw
- 21:13Speaker 1: to tell you. I know it sounds crazy, man, but
- 21:16Speaker 1: you know, if I go on you know, if I'm
- 21:17Speaker 1: on the XFM, I'm just listening to like, uh, you know,
- 21:20Speaker 1: music that has no words, you know what I mean.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Like I might sit there and just listening to Nora
- 21:24Speaker 1: im Pure, you know what I mean, right, because riding
- 21:27Speaker 1: around it makes me feel rich. You know, if I'm
- 21:29Speaker 1: listening to Nora and Pure, it makes me feel rich.
- 21:31Speaker 1: If I'm listening to you know this, this MC or
- 21:33Speaker 1: this rap kid on here talking about I don't feel rich.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I feel like, damn, I feel broke as fuck. You know,
- 21:38Speaker 1: just got just that in the third I don't got that,
- 21:41Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I'd rather just listen to
- 21:42Speaker 1: something that, you know, it's just a little bit more
- 21:45Speaker 1: you know, soundscape, you know, heavy bass, tempo, going crazy,
- 21:50Speaker 1: you know what I mean, something that you could just
- 21:51Speaker 1: relax your mind to. Because you really sit down and
- 21:54Speaker 1: listen to these guys, man, you can feel like you're
- 21:55Speaker 1: missing out on all the good things in life. Raps
- 21:58Speaker 1: shouldn't really be like that, man. You shouldn't have to
- 22:01Speaker 1: listen to rap and feel like you're missing out on life.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Should be listening to rap and feel like, you know,
- 22:08Speaker 1: like like Okay, this is where I want to be,
- 22:10Speaker 1: but rap now makes you feel like you're not where
- 22:12Speaker 1: you want to be and you made a mistake and
- 22:14Speaker 1: I need to do what you're doing. It's been like
- 22:15Speaker 1: that for a while. I mean you mentioned the bling blinger.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I think it really started pretty pretty heavily, you know,
- 22:20Speaker 1: with cash money, because it's like your bird man's rapping
- 22:22Speaker 1: about having a fucking a car with a driver's seat
- 22:26Speaker 1: in the middle. Yeah. Yeah, but look, you can't put
- 22:29Speaker 1: it all on you and some people probably listen like
- 22:33Speaker 1: I love that shit. You're gonna give you an insight.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna give your insight to it. It really, it
- 22:37Speaker 1: really didn't start with those guys, man, Like those guys
- 22:40Speaker 1: were just answering a call. It started with our magazines, right,
- 22:45Speaker 1: So so you had these magazines, like you know the magazines, Yeah, yeah,
- 22:51Speaker 1: other magazines, others, right, all of them. Right, there was
- 22:55Speaker 1: a time when those magazines were very thin because there
- 22:58Speaker 1: were no ads in them. Then they all got loaded up,
- 23:01Speaker 1: and once they got loaded they got thicker, not just
- 23:03Speaker 1: in the back, also in the middle of the peel outs.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Right once they went there, anybody could go look it
- 23:09Speaker 1: up and see. That's when the article started to go
- 23:12Speaker 1: from being favorable or agreeable, like like, oh yeah, we
- 23:15Speaker 1: got such and such most you know, most loved, or
- 23:18Speaker 1: you know someone who's known for such and such, like
- 23:20Speaker 1: all accolades and praise right to to oh yeah, the
- 23:27Speaker 1: East Coast West Coast War started because such and such
- 23:30Speaker 1: they sent. And then that was in bold lettering, and
- 23:32Speaker 1: then the division started, right, that's when the division started.
- 23:36Speaker 1: The division started when magazine started to put in bold
- 23:40Speaker 1: writing disagreements that people had that had nothing to do
- 23:43Speaker 1: with the album outright, but they grabbed the narrative. They
- 23:47Speaker 1: were grabbing narratives and now poisonous, poisonous to us, and
- 23:52Speaker 1: they fed it back to us. And so you know,
- 23:55Speaker 1: you know what happens when you feed bovine cow bovine bones, right,
- 23:59Speaker 1: what happened? It breaks down, It degenerates, right, it turns
- 24:02Speaker 1: into like you know that mass Yeah, I think I
- 24:06Speaker 1: think obviously a disease, right, But what they did to
- 24:09Speaker 1: us they fed us our own dead, right. I mean
- 24:12Speaker 1: I think when when when when these magazines realized that's
- 24:14Speaker 1: what sold? Because think about it, back then, you couldn't
- 24:16Speaker 1: go on social media and address someone directly or in
- 24:19Speaker 1: real time. Right, it was like I got to wait
- 24:21Speaker 1: to see what they say in the next vibe or
- 24:24Speaker 1: I you know, it was so much, he said, she said,
- 24:26Speaker 1: because there was no direct to consumer way to communicate
- 24:30Speaker 1: with fans. Well, yeah, but I mean you got to
- 24:32Speaker 1: take responsibility. You know, everybody's got to be accountable, right,
- 24:35Speaker 1: like if in other there were other magazines, you know, skiing, biking,
- 24:39Speaker 1: you know the stuff that William Randolph Hurst did. You
- 24:42Speaker 1: know everything was for photography, skiing, biking, boating, all the
- 24:47Speaker 1: I's right, he just got them all and he added
- 24:50Speaker 1: I G to every hobby, every record, recreational pastime, and
- 24:54Speaker 1: it sold. You go look at those magazines. They were
- 24:56Speaker 1: dividing their own culture. You didn't need to see people
- 25:00Speaker 1: dividing celle craft with you know, diesel engines versus gas.
- 25:05Speaker 1: You know, people make comparisons, but they didn't make it
- 25:07Speaker 1: to where like you know, don't buy this, you know, mirror.
- 25:11Speaker 1: But but like right, look right, it's only in rap,
- 25:14Speaker 1: and so that's that tells you that there was an
- 25:16Speaker 1: agenda involved, you know. But what confuses me always is
- 25:20Speaker 1: that rap just kind of keeps going down the same
- 25:25Speaker 1: circle that those same bear traps pitfalls. It just they
- 25:31Speaker 1: just break out the same you know, a recurring pitfall
- 25:35Speaker 1: every five or ten years, and people fall into it.
- 25:37Speaker 1: For example. I don't understand how the owners of these
- 25:42Speaker 1: magazines didn't see ten years ahead in the future, which
- 25:45Speaker 1: ain't even long. Can't you see that by putting these things,
- 25:49Speaker 1: by grabbing the narrative and making it negative in your magazine, right,
- 25:52Speaker 1: can't you see that, all that's gonna do is push
- 25:55Speaker 1: your magazine out the window eventually to where you're not
- 25:59Speaker 1: gonna have the staff. You know, you eventually you're going
- 26:02Speaker 1: to kill your own culture through the magazine. Right, You're
- 26:06Speaker 1: gonna kill your magazine. The the the platforms are gonna
- 26:11Speaker 1: change and to go online. Now you don't have a
- 26:13Speaker 1: staff anymore. Right. And I can say this because I
- 26:16Speaker 1: was I lived it. Like you know, when you had
- 26:18Speaker 1: promotion and marketing. Man, there was a time and you're
- 26:21Speaker 1: from a relatively same era, there was a time when
- 26:25Speaker 1: craft services used to get money from coming to our videos,
- 26:28Speaker 1: coming to the you know, to the meet and greets,
- 26:31Speaker 1: just parking the truck outside the food truck outside the promotions.
- 26:34Speaker 1: The marketing promotions. Guys used to get bootgoo bucks. Man.
- 26:37Speaker 1: They used to go, Yeah, they have to go to
- 26:38Speaker 1: the record stores and make sure you had your your
- 26:40Speaker 1: setup and your posters in the record stores. Yeah, you know,
- 26:43Speaker 1: somebody making some clothes. You know, just got some some
- 26:46Speaker 1: garms and stuff. Like everyone was getting paid. Everybody was
- 26:49Speaker 1: getting bread or that's what I'm saying. It was coming
- 26:51Speaker 1: out of your budget. I'm talking about the self I'm about.
- 26:56Speaker 1: I'm talking about self man, I'm not I'm not talking
- 26:58Speaker 1: about labels paying people. I'm talking about people making the
- 27:01Speaker 1: work that you was able to get it all back
- 27:04Speaker 1: through being busy every day doing what you loved. That
- 27:08Speaker 1: just the time where we were still doing what we loved,
- 27:10Speaker 1: and like I said, things just started to get strained
- 27:13Speaker 1: and it's like they put us through some kind of
- 27:15Speaker 1: a funnel and what came out the other end was
- 27:18Speaker 1: all right, well, now you just upload your music and
- 27:21Speaker 1: we don't need anybody to promote it. You can pay
- 27:23Speaker 1: for the promoting, But that just means we're just gonna
- 27:25Speaker 1: digitally send a signal and ping a website and get
- 27:28Speaker 1: avatars and you get bots right right, so you know,
- 27:33Speaker 1: and it's it's really alarming. Man. You just look and
- 27:36Speaker 1: you see how much power does the average rapper have? Man?
- 27:40Speaker 1: Not much? And that's crazy to me. Yo, you mentioned
- 27:44Speaker 1: the metaverse a bit earlier, but I know that you
- 27:46Speaker 1: you you're in the NFT space a bit. Yeah, the metaverse. Yeah,
- 27:51Speaker 1: I'm listening. But I'm just curious, like what you've always
- 27:54Speaker 1: kind of been ahead of the curve when it comes
- 27:57Speaker 1: to be online shit or just certain shit like total
- 28:00Speaker 1: curse man, talk about the n f T ship man,
- 28:02Speaker 1: because obviously, I think a lot of artists are still
- 28:05Speaker 1: trying to figure out the space. It's new, starting to
- 28:09Speaker 1: kind of understand what it is, but at the same
- 28:11Speaker 1: time are very disconnected to what it really is. So,
- 28:15Speaker 1: so you're in the space, how are you feeling about
- 28:19Speaker 1: like kind of just that whole side of the game. Okay,
- 28:21Speaker 1: so a lot a lot of it. You know, I'm
- 28:23Speaker 1: only qualified to speak on a fraction of what what
- 28:26Speaker 1: an NFT can do or where it's going, right, mainly
- 28:29Speaker 1: because a lot of the you know, you got to
- 28:34Speaker 1: be a colder, man like. You really have to you know,
- 28:36Speaker 1: really know what you're doing, man like, because I've worked
- 28:38Speaker 1: with some of those guys, and I mean they're like
- 28:40Speaker 1: brainiacts man, you know, and most of them, from what
- 28:43Speaker 1: I see, they're like our age. They're not little youngest
- 28:46Speaker 1: because they had to go and invest the time to
- 28:49Speaker 1: learn these programs and they have to know how to cold.
- 28:53Speaker 1: And even now as you talk about like, if you
- 28:55Speaker 1: want to go build a website, you got to go
- 28:57Speaker 1: get somebody from India to do it. Right. When I
- 29:01Speaker 1: remember when I was building spitballs dot com. This is
- 29:03Speaker 1: a long time ago, this is twenty ten, and you know,
- 29:07Speaker 1: my team and I, you know, were handling building spitballs
- 29:10Speaker 1: dot com. And I got to tell you, man like,
- 29:12Speaker 1: there were only two coders in the country. One was
- 29:15Speaker 1: in Miami and when it was in Colorado that could
- 29:18Speaker 1: have built the site. So we had to outsource to India.
- 29:21Speaker 1: No problem with that. It's just that India has different
- 29:24Speaker 1: holidays from us, so we were trying to get things done.
- 29:26Speaker 1: It was like, oh man, they're on holiday. Got to
- 29:29Speaker 1: hit them back this time, you know, O Ramadan, look,
- 29:31Speaker 1: can't do your cipher right. So that's kind of crazy
- 29:34Speaker 1: considering it. And it's been like that for a long time.
- 29:37Speaker 1: And so NFTs. While there's a lot to it and
- 29:41Speaker 1: there's a lot that can happen because of it, I
- 29:44Speaker 1: think Rap's gonna miss the boat with it again, man,
- 29:47Speaker 1: because once again, you know, they're not our own people
- 29:51Speaker 1: are not They're not paying attention to the ones who
- 29:55Speaker 1: stand to gain and lose the most if we don't
- 29:59Speaker 1: get some thing like that for ourselves and not listening
- 30:02Speaker 1: to them. They want to go run to just the
- 30:05Speaker 1: corporate the corporate masters, right that that you know really
- 30:10Speaker 1: kind of don't care one way or another if you
- 30:11Speaker 1: make something that your grandchildren are going to be able
- 30:14Speaker 1: to tap into to you know, go to school, you know,
- 30:17Speaker 1: get higher education, right. And that's not my acts to grime, man,
- 30:22Speaker 1: I'm just saying that to even sit up here and
- 30:25Speaker 1: talk about NFT stuff. I mean, I was talking about
- 30:27Speaker 1: cannabis dot com and nobody gave a ship you mean
- 30:30Speaker 1: me to talk about it now? Nobody? I mean people
- 30:32Speaker 1: people are giving I mean you, I tell you just
- 30:34Speaker 1: had some NFTs. I mean how many? I tell you?
- 30:37Speaker 1: Just put up an n f T, right, I don't
- 30:38Speaker 1: have any NFTs if you go online and you look
- 30:41Speaker 1: for cannis nts. You don't have any cannabis enttis. But
- 30:44Speaker 1: the whole thing is that, you know, I'm I'm orbiting
- 30:48Speaker 1: the technology and I'm orbiting the n f T world
- 30:50Speaker 1: because there are things that are works of art that
- 30:52Speaker 1: I would like to you know, I would I would
- 30:54Speaker 1: like to either ascertain or you know, have investors, you know,
- 30:57Speaker 1: angel investors come in and as right, because okay, so
- 31:02Speaker 1: this this board ape you know NFT for y'all clup
- 31:06Speaker 1: thing right now? Now you look at that right now,
- 31:09Speaker 1: If you look at it, it's colorful. It does draw
- 31:14Speaker 1: on you a little bit when you look at it,
- 31:16Speaker 1: right to at least for you to scroll and look
- 31:17Speaker 1: at the next one, and you think maybe that, like,
- 31:20Speaker 1: you know, maybe there's a maybe there's a like a
- 31:23Speaker 1: a hip you know, someone that has like hip hop
- 31:26Speaker 1: roots behind it, and it's probably not, probably not, And
- 31:30Speaker 1: that's kind of like crazy, So where so where are
- 31:33Speaker 1: the hip hop guys that because the prices of those
- 31:35Speaker 1: things are insane right so so so how how would
- 31:41Speaker 1: we ever be able to participate in something like that
- 31:44Speaker 1: when it's happening right now and none of us are
- 31:47Speaker 1: in that space? So it's almost like is it too
- 31:50Speaker 1: late or like do you think it's too late for
- 31:52Speaker 1: people to get into that. It's too late. It's too
- 31:54Speaker 1: late because of the division that you talked about earlier,
- 31:56Speaker 1: because it's like, you know, no one's going to pull
- 31:58Speaker 1: together enough to go do that everyone else. I mean,
- 32:01Speaker 1: now that we're speaking about that, let me, let me
- 32:04Speaker 1: let me pretty much. So I don't have all the
- 32:07Speaker 1: answers for that, but I do have a place that
- 32:09Speaker 1: has the answers for it, right that I know of
- 32:11Speaker 1: that I've that I've all right, so you know this
- 32:15Speaker 1: is what I just throw this out your ok rippers, investors,
- 32:17Speaker 1: Hood for lamp Hood for Lampith, philanthropists, Grandpas with big coins,

- 33:22Speaker 1: and try to take advantage of or look into what's
- 33:25Speaker 1: there for them right now, you know, X amount of
- 33:28Speaker 1: days later after this broadcast, I'll find out, right, and
- 33:32Speaker 1: most likely, like the way that I see it is
- 33:34Speaker 1: because I said it, no one cares, right, But this
- 33:37Speaker 1: company they're building on their own without me saying that, right,
- 33:42Speaker 1: So they're probably gonna grab onto something else out there
- 33:45Speaker 1: that's gonna win. And then you know, we're gonna be
- 33:48Speaker 1: looking at the people who we told about it, like
- 33:50Speaker 1: but we told you though, right, and they're gonna run
- 33:52Speaker 1: off with somebody else that's gonna you know, distribute their
- 33:57Speaker 1: their music's, put their take their names sake, you know,
- 34:00Speaker 1: you know, get their their crypto world together, you know,
- 34:04Speaker 1: while it's you know, get all that stuff is very important,
- 34:07Speaker 1: and I know why, but I can't say it why
- 34:10Speaker 1: because it doesn't matter unless they go look a look
- 34:13Speaker 1: into an I pictorial. The I patorial app right. But
- 34:18Speaker 1: one day, very soon, they're gonna wake up and they're
- 34:20Speaker 1: gonna be in that world already. You can't buy anything
- 34:23Speaker 1: in that world. You're not gonna be able to uh
- 34:26Speaker 1: earn it. You're gonna be able to get any air drops.
- 34:28Speaker 1: You're not gonna be get it. You're just gonna wake up.
- 34:30Speaker 1: You're just gonna owe it, and you're gonna have to
- 34:31Speaker 1: go to work until get it. And in the same
- 34:34Speaker 1: way we have to do that for the US dollars.
- 34:36Speaker 1: You got to earn the US dollar. So one day
- 34:38Speaker 1: you're not gonna be able to purchase into that world, right,
- 34:42Speaker 1: You're gonna have to work into that world. That's right,
- 34:44Speaker 1: which is which is a crazy I mean, that's a
- 34:47Speaker 1: crazy thought. And its eventually for us though, I think
- 34:50Speaker 1: that us we're gonna still be able to do what
- 34:53Speaker 1: we do and do we're we're good at doing. It's
- 34:56Speaker 1: the new generation. Man. We're talking about our kids here,
- 34:58Speaker 1: about our grant and children. This is what we're really
- 35:01Speaker 1: talking about. And we're talking about that kind of stuff.
- 35:03Speaker 1: That's what we're really talking about, because we're able to
- 35:05Speaker 1: we're able to get it in so many different ways. No,
- 35:07Speaker 1: you're right, you're right, right, this is probably maybe fifty
- 35:09Speaker 1: one hundred years away. Yeah, you know, I wanted to
- 35:13Speaker 1: talk to you, so I know. I'm sure you saw.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Uh was it? Ll got into the Rock and Roll
- 35:19Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. That's right, he got inducted, right, he
- 35:21Speaker 1: got inducted, and he shot it. He shouted you out
- 35:24Speaker 1: just about a month now, right, he has been a
- 35:25Speaker 1: month ago, and he shouted you out in the speech,
- 35:27Speaker 1: which I thought was dope because, in my opinion, bring
- 35:31Speaker 1: top three battles. As a kid, I remember obviously second
- 35:36Speaker 1: Round Knockout, and I remember going and buying DMX's It's
- 35:40Speaker 1: Dark and Hell Is Hot, the bonus disc version, because
- 35:44Speaker 1: the second there was a there was a Deaf Jam
- 35:47Speaker 1: version of that album that had a bonus disc in
- 35:50Speaker 1: it that had the Ripper strikes back on it. Right, right, Yeah,
- 35:54Speaker 1: that's right. And I just remember knowing both of those
- 35:58Speaker 1: records by heart and just thinking, like day, like I
- 36:01Speaker 1: like just it was such a just an epic time,
- 36:04Speaker 1: epic battle. But I always felt like there was always respect,
- 36:07Speaker 1: and I thought it was just so dope to see
- 36:09Speaker 1: all these years later, ll just show you some love,
- 36:11Speaker 1: you know. I mean, it's a shame that we didn't
- 36:13Speaker 1: WWF it right. And what I mean by that is like, like,
- 36:18Speaker 1: why couldn't there have been some wise elder right to
- 36:22Speaker 1: come out and just say, all right, listen, man, you
- 36:25Speaker 1: guys kissing makeup right now, right but on the screen. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 36:30Speaker 1: do that, and let's all really just get rich, and
- 36:33Speaker 1: let's let's go ahead and create to do this, take
- 36:35Speaker 1: this template and do it every time rap artists getting
- 36:38Speaker 1: too beef. Instead, for us, there was no WWF. They
- 36:43Speaker 1: put everybody in a situation like this is real. You
- 36:46Speaker 1: can't sleep tonight because you got dissed. You know what
- 36:49Speaker 1: I'm saying. You can't show your face because you got dissed.
- 36:52Speaker 1: You're under pressure because you got dissed. You you know
- 36:56Speaker 1: what I mean, You're not You're not the artist that
- 36:59Speaker 1: we all thought you word because you got dissed. Like
- 37:01Speaker 1: hip hop kind of did a number on the both
- 37:04Speaker 1: of us, I think, and every artist thereafter and before
- 37:08Speaker 1: that got into you know, disagreements with each other. There
- 37:11Speaker 1: was no at no time there on my watch was
- 37:15Speaker 1: I able to witness someone that was wise coming into
- 37:20Speaker 1: the fray right and saying, you know what, there's a
- 37:24Speaker 1: way the w W F this where everyone gets paid.
- 37:27Speaker 1: That's right, and we take our wrapper hats off at
- 37:30Speaker 1: the end of the night. Never happened. Never happened. So
- 37:33Speaker 1: that's how I look at the whole thing. I don't
- 37:35Speaker 1: everything y'all talk about what y'all saying to me, man,
- 37:38Speaker 1: it's Chinese, because what everybody else is talking about it
- 37:43Speaker 1: is something that still we spent five minutes talking about
- 37:46Speaker 1: this so far, it makes no money, nobody gets anything
- 37:49Speaker 1: from it. But on the w w S side of things,
- 37:53Speaker 1: they eat bro and I'm not slow, yeah, and I'm
- 37:57Speaker 1: not slow. So I kind of feel I kind of
- 38:00Speaker 1: I feel assaulted. I feel like I got stuck with
- 38:02Speaker 1: the dummies, you know what I mean. I got put
- 38:05Speaker 1: into the genre music guy had to get to do
- 38:07Speaker 1: that with the dummies, you know what I mean. I
- 38:09Speaker 1: should have been on another side where it's like, you know,
- 38:12Speaker 1: somebody the wise man comes down off the off the mountain.
- 38:15Speaker 1: He's got the plan and he says, I like what
- 38:17Speaker 1: you guys, just did you know what let's go get
- 38:20Speaker 1: some money with it instead on this side of thing
- 38:22Speaker 1: and wrapped, almost like a Paul Hayman. That's right, let's
- 38:25Speaker 1: do it. But on this side of the thing, we wrap.
- 38:28Speaker 1: The guy comes off the top of the mountain. He says, man,
- 38:31Speaker 1: you won't believe what he said to me about you
- 38:33Speaker 1: up there. Man, if I was you might go up there.
- 38:34Speaker 1: You see what I'm trying to say. I hear what
- 38:36Speaker 1: you're saying. And then they just wipe us out. We
- 38:37Speaker 1: wipe ourselves out, and I and I'm confused as to
- 38:41Speaker 1: how nobody has can see it yet. Yeah, I mean
- 38:45Speaker 1: and if and hey, look there might be situations that
- 38:47Speaker 1: we just aren't privy to where that it might have happened.
- 38:49Speaker 1: You know, I don't know. I just don't love you
- 38:53Speaker 1: that bullshit now, I don't know. I don't know the
- 38:55Speaker 1: way word of mouth goes on and wrap. You're right,
- 38:57Speaker 1: it's a bunch of commons. B Yeah. So when you
- 38:59Speaker 1: when when you heard him shout you out, like I mean,
- 39:01Speaker 1: obviously that was the phone went crazy. The texts were crazy,
- 39:05Speaker 1: you know, you know, I was I didn't even remember
- 39:10Speaker 1: what I was doing at the time. Oh, I was writing,
- 39:12Speaker 1: I was writing for Kaiju. I was writing, I was writing,
- 39:15Speaker 1: I was I was vocaling, right, I was vocaling, and
- 39:17Speaker 1: I put the phone on airplane mode. So when I
- 39:20Speaker 1: took it off, it was like a thing went crazy.
- 39:22Speaker 1: And then I was like, oh, man, I just not stupid.
- 39:25Speaker 1: I'm thinking of something stupid. I'm thinking. He got up
- 39:27Speaker 1: there and said, yo, man, I want to see cannabis
- 39:29Speaker 1: in the pine box. I'm saying, I'm just telling you
- 39:32Speaker 1: right what I thought when I looked at it, and
- 39:34Speaker 1: then when I heard it was the opposite. You know,
- 39:37Speaker 1: it did feel good, you know, no wild now wow. Now,
- 39:40Speaker 1: while of course, you know, what if I was like
- 39:43Speaker 1: stuck somewhere in South Africa, right, and I couldn't get
- 39:46Speaker 1: back to the States or right, what if I'd been
- 39:49Speaker 1: human traffic somewhere right, think about this, right, what if
- 39:52Speaker 1: I was somewhere else unable to communicate back right? But
- 39:57Speaker 1: I heard about that how you're supposed to feel. You're
- 40:02Speaker 1: not supposed to feel like this, shout out, it's any
- 40:04Speaker 1: kind of guiding light from the creator, like, you know,
- 40:07Speaker 1: just hang in there, kid, you're at it, right, And
- 40:10Speaker 1: then this is not the way that rap I feel
- 40:13Speaker 1: in the beginning, this is not the way that it
- 40:15Speaker 1: was meant to develop. I don't feel that way because
- 40:20Speaker 1: every other the word team, the word genre, the word group,
- 40:27Speaker 1: the word I mean, just any synonym to you know,
- 40:32Speaker 1: like like a group, right people, right, any other synonym
- 40:38Speaker 1: is going to you look up the examples, or you
- 40:40Speaker 1: look up something that's comparable. You're going to see that.
- 40:44Speaker 1: We don't leave nobody behind, you know what I mean?
- 40:47Speaker 1: All right? You know what. We keep our scuffles inside
- 40:50Speaker 1: the family. You know what I mean. Everybody all desk,
- 40:53Speaker 1: got to be paid, so forth and so on. But
- 40:55Speaker 1: you know what, we don't leave nobody behind. Man, rap, Bro,
- 41:00Speaker 1: I'm I'm I'm good man, I'm good because you know
- 41:03Speaker 1: what I mean. I got other things doing and working right.
- 41:07Speaker 1: But for those who don't, you gotta you gotta guess.
- 41:10Speaker 1: List so long and wrap of people that can come
- 41:12Speaker 1: up here and talk about being left behind. I'm telling you, bro,
- 41:17Speaker 1: it's not something made right with that picture. Man. I agree.
- 41:20Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not here to fix it either, But
- 41:22Speaker 1: you're right, you're right, so don't so. I don't want
- 41:25Speaker 1: anybody to come talk to me like I'm slow about
- 41:28Speaker 1: a shout out or something like that. I'm not miserable
- 41:31Speaker 1: about it. I'm saying it. Don't don't even waste my time, man.
- 41:34Speaker 1: You know what I mean about something that it doesn't
- 41:37Speaker 1: mean anything. You know what I'm saying it? Wait hold on,
- 41:40Speaker 1: time to stop the interview because we got to talk
- 41:42Speaker 1: about our good folks at odd Socks. Man. Listen. If
- 41:44Speaker 1: you go to odd Socksofficial dot com, that's O D

- 42:37Speaker 1: go support them. Another thing I wanted to talk to
- 42:40Speaker 1: you about folklore. It's not folklore because it's on YouTube.
- 42:44Speaker 1: You Mike Geronimo DMX pun most depth, right, that's correct,
- 42:53Speaker 1: n Forte. I remember that vaguely anyway. It's like, uh,
- 42:59Speaker 1: one of the more historical just ciphers that was ever
- 43:02Speaker 1: captured from that era. Yeah, you know, you know Tore
- 43:07Speaker 1: Tore should have Tore should have guy gave us like
- 43:10Speaker 1: he did. Somebody did tell us to due sign offs
- 43:12Speaker 1: she to should have gave us like a percentage on that. Yeah.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Tori was the guy he ended up, you know, the
- 43:17Speaker 1: journalist journalist. Yeah you've been Yeah. I remember seeing his
- 43:21Speaker 1: face on CNN one day, like, yo, that dude. It's
- 43:25Speaker 1: like the Beef DVD, right, I remember, so QD three
- 43:28Speaker 1: shout out to QD three. Yeah, Quincy Jones Sun, that's right,
- 43:31Speaker 1: that's right. But I mean it's like, you know, a
- 43:33Speaker 1: percentage on that would have been nice, you know. Yeah,
- 43:35Speaker 1: the fact that he made so much money on three
- 43:38Speaker 1: with three or four of those dvs, and no one
- 43:40Speaker 1: saw anything off of it. Listen to me, man, those
- 43:43Speaker 1: beef dvs were moving in the morn style playing. I
- 43:45Speaker 1: got three of them, I got my house. Stop playing.
- 43:48Speaker 1: So this this, that's all I'm saying. Man. Like when
- 43:50Speaker 1: it just came, it seemed like when it came to rap, Man,
- 43:52Speaker 1: it's like win it takes all, you know, And I mean, look,
- 43:56Speaker 1: the entertainmentdustry in general is very predatory, right yeah, But
- 43:58Speaker 1: hold on though, man, anywhere else in their entertainment industry, Man,
- 44:03Speaker 1: there are ancillary you know, like what drops on the head,
- 44:09Speaker 1: drips on the shoulder, So there are things that drop
- 44:12Speaker 1: off the tree. Man. It's like it's like, okay, that
- 44:15Speaker 1: fruit is ripe or it's over ripe, but it's still sustenance.
- 44:19Speaker 1: But then wrap Listen, man, our VA list you know
- 44:26Speaker 1: of injured and wounded and you know otherwise is it's
- 44:32Speaker 1: it's unbearable. That's true. It's unbearable, and I can't do
- 44:37Speaker 1: anything about it. I don't have the resources do anything
- 44:39Speaker 1: about it. Every time I try to go get the
- 44:41Speaker 1: resources to do something about it, I was blocked one
- 44:44Speaker 1: way or another. Right. The narrative was stolen and taken
- 44:47Speaker 1: from me, and the narrative changed into something that was
- 44:50Speaker 1: like a had something to do with beef or drama. Right,
- 44:52Speaker 1: But I'm only speaking on it now to just kind
- 44:56Speaker 1: of just say, hey, just build a little bit of
- 44:59Speaker 1: awareness about it and sort of like kind of like,
- 45:01Speaker 1: you know, I put my hat cast. No. I think
- 45:03Speaker 1: there's been a bunch of attempts of like, right, like
- 45:06Speaker 1: what is like the retirement plan for hip hop or
- 45:08Speaker 1: then or just there's so many like why are there
- 45:10Speaker 1: more safety nets for artists, you know, like at the
- 45:13Speaker 1: end of the day, like if a major label they
- 45:15Speaker 1: chew you up and spitch you out if you're not
- 45:16Speaker 1: worth anything. So I've heard that on clubhouse, there's been
- 45:20Speaker 1: talks about different things like uh, man, I don't want
- 45:25Speaker 1: to say the wrong name of the double og and
- 45:27Speaker 1: rap music that is pushing it. I don't want to
- 45:30Speaker 1: say the wrong name. So I know that there's somebody's
- 45:34Speaker 1: is behind it. That's not the name, I guess. I
- 45:38Speaker 1: know there's a few. There's a few, but but but
- 45:42Speaker 1: something about having like sit before the Supreme Court signed
- 45:46Speaker 1: the petition, sit before the Supreme Court and try to
- 45:49Speaker 1: get a like uh uh, benefits, retirement packages, medical things
- 45:55Speaker 1: like that for artists right now, great ideas, superb idea. Yeah.
- 46:00Speaker 1: But you know what though, it's too late. And the
- 46:03Speaker 1: reason I say that is because how can you go
- 46:07Speaker 1: before like the American people or any type of global
- 46:09Speaker 1: audience right when you're nearing you know, like I said,
- 46:13Speaker 1: our era is half a century and right, and then
- 46:17Speaker 1: those that came a little bit ten years before, it's
- 46:19Speaker 1: sixty sixty years in or better then you got those
- 46:22Speaker 1: are the seventy and nearing eighty. How are you going
- 46:25Speaker 1: to sit in front of you know, three generations later,
- 46:29Speaker 1: you're sitting in front of them and you're asking them
- 46:31Speaker 1: for more money. When we travel the globe, we made
- 46:34Speaker 1: the money. You see what I'm trying to say, it's
- 46:37Speaker 1: a little bit it's a little bit lopsided. Right, These
- 46:40Speaker 1: things should have kind of been set up before. So
- 46:42Speaker 1: now you know the little things we were talking about earlier.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Now you might want to try to, you know, try
- 46:48Speaker 1: to steer the youngins in a certain direction to secure
- 46:51Speaker 1: their own futures, and then you kind of get blocked
- 46:55Speaker 1: with that too. So it's kind of like we're railroaded
- 46:58Speaker 1: either way, you know, what I mean, because there are
- 47:00Speaker 1: things now that they could do to secure their future.
- 47:02Speaker 1: So I think that there's literacy, right, It's like I
- 47:04Speaker 1: feel like I feel like unfortunately, like like we're talking
- 47:07Speaker 1: about retirement plans and stuff, like any artists, they're just
- 47:11Speaker 1: a little bit more and we're talking about eighteen nineteen
- 47:15Speaker 1: year old kids, you know what I mean, just trying
- 47:16Speaker 1: to improve their life conditions. Absolutely, so they're just gonna sign.
- 47:22Speaker 1: But at the same time, it's like, man, like, we
- 47:24Speaker 1: just got to do a better job. And I think
- 47:25Speaker 1: we are part of the first generation that's probably taking
- 47:28Speaker 1: financial literacy a little bit more serious. Of course, of course,
- 47:32Speaker 1: but you know a lot of that stuff like Unfortunately,
- 47:35Speaker 1: like you said, it's probably never gonna happen. So it's
- 47:37Speaker 1: really up to the artists. Up to the artists. You
- 47:39Speaker 1: gotta take care of your shit, because because all that
- 47:42Speaker 1: we could do accumulatively is set up some type of
- 47:45Speaker 1: safety net for those that they're not done. Their careers
- 47:51Speaker 1: are not over the music, right, but the safety net
- 47:53Speaker 1: is there to kind of get them back on track
- 47:56Speaker 1: if they do want to. You don't get back into
- 47:58Speaker 1: it right, right, This should be some kind of a
- 48:01Speaker 1: some kind of a safety net from somewhere, but that
- 48:03Speaker 1: really doesn't exist. I don't think it it will exist.
- 48:07Speaker 1: So it's up to the individual literacy, right, So basically
- 48:11Speaker 1: we're asking, we're asking. We're asking youngins who came and
- 48:15Speaker 1: you know, dedicated, they committed everything, you know, the hip hop.
- 48:18Speaker 1: You know, they took on the risk, they took on
- 48:21Speaker 1: I mean everything. They went into these dark rooms, you know,
- 48:24Speaker 1: they went in there with these mvgs on. They did
- 48:26Speaker 1: their best. They they you know, they they did everything
- 48:29Speaker 1: that you know, most people be scared to do, terrified,
- 48:33Speaker 1: petrified to do. These little youngers we're here and did this,
- 48:36Speaker 1: and we're asking them to go in there and do
- 48:37Speaker 1: all of this and not have any There's nothing on
- 48:40Speaker 1: the other side for them, you know what I mean.
- 48:42Speaker 1: And that's kind of I yell, man, I just yo, man.
- 48:46Speaker 1: I guess so like defeated even thinking about it. I mean, look,
- 48:50Speaker 1: it's like it's like any any if anybody ever told you, like, hey,
- 48:53Speaker 1: look this is your career. But there's no you know,
- 48:56Speaker 1: when you sign up to be a doctor or a
- 48:57Speaker 1: lawyer or anything, you know that there's a safety net,
- 49:01Speaker 1: you know what I mean, there might be benefits whatever
- 49:03Speaker 1: it is, take me back to those that night from
- 49:06Speaker 1: that cipher Big Pond is one of my favorite ever,
- 49:11Speaker 1: I mean most, I mean, I mean, this is just
- 49:13Speaker 1: this is a crazy night in hip hop. DMX is there,
- 49:16Speaker 1: I mean, you're there, Like, what what do you remember
- 49:18Speaker 1: about that night in those circumstances from that night? I
- 49:21Speaker 1: remember that in that room as as as tense as
- 49:29Speaker 1: it was because of what we all were trying to
- 49:32Speaker 1: do in our own lives. We all wanted to come
- 49:35Speaker 1: out make our impacts, you know, playing our flags in
- 49:42Speaker 1: the ground right and firmly make an impact in hip
- 49:47Speaker 1: hop across the world. That's what we wanted to do.
- 49:51Speaker 1: We were all American artists, you know, you know, of course,
- 49:54Speaker 1: coming from different lineages, right, and everyone on the cusp
- 49:58Speaker 1: of being the next big thing, and right right right
- 50:00Speaker 1: and then and then ethnically it was it was really
- 50:02Speaker 1: spread out all throughout, you know what it was spread
- 50:04Speaker 1: It was spread out, It was spread out round table, right.
- 50:07Speaker 1: But in spite of how intense it was, what I
- 50:12Speaker 1: what I distinctly remember was as much as each one
- 50:16Speaker 1: of us was willing to go hard with them rhymes
- 50:20Speaker 1: and other things to make that statement, there was still
- 50:25Speaker 1: complete love in that room, and you can look at
- 50:29Speaker 1: it and tell like like there was love for each other,
- 50:31Speaker 1: in respect for each you know, that's what you didn't
- 50:34Speaker 1: see anything jump off in there. There was like unbecoming
- 50:37Speaker 1: of you know, artists that are kind of liking their
- 50:39Speaker 1: freshmen role trying to get it popping. Like we showed
- 50:43Speaker 1: love to each other and that and were there was
- 50:46Speaker 1: no security there. We didn't need any extra There was
- 50:49Speaker 1: no hype man there, there was no there was no squads.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Nobody had a whole squad standing outside the door like
- 50:55Speaker 1: so that much I remember. I remember that there was
- 50:57Speaker 1: love in that room. And the love I think was
- 51:00Speaker 1: probably uh, it was probably resonant because of the lyrical
- 51:06Speaker 1: mirror ability, right everybody we all had that ability, and
- 51:10Speaker 1: so everybody respected when another's paying game. And we all
- 51:15Speaker 1: knew consciously and subconsciously that we were kind of like
- 51:18Speaker 1: all up against the same machine. We weren't up against
- 51:21Speaker 1: each other. We were up against the same machine because
- 51:23Speaker 1: we were trying to get something from the machine in
- 51:26Speaker 1: order to go feed our little huskies in our munchkins
- 51:28Speaker 1: and you know, and branch out. And so that's what
- 51:32Speaker 1: I remember from that. Everything else is kind of like
- 51:34Speaker 1: a blur wow, because I don't think anybody could have
- 51:40Speaker 1: for seeing how special of a moment that would have
- 51:41Speaker 1: been in a few like you, like it's lived on
- 51:44Speaker 1: it's on YouTube, Like no one knew YouTube was gonna
- 51:46Speaker 1: need You didn't know how that moment was gonna be. Yeah,
- 51:48Speaker 1: but see twenty years down the line, right and right,
- 51:51Speaker 1: you're right one percent. And also I feel like no
- 51:55Speaker 1: one in the room was kind of thinking, you know, well,
- 51:57Speaker 1: let's come back and do this twenty years later. Let's
- 52:00Speaker 1: let's do this. Let's let's make it this ten year anniversary.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Every ten years we come back to a round table.
- 52:06Speaker 1: You know, tore just took took the percentage of the
- 52:08Speaker 1: royalty and just ran off. You know, Toray didn't even
- 52:11Speaker 1: you know, Torey, I'm waiting on my call, man, Like,
- 52:13Speaker 1: let's let's do round table part two. Let's he did
- 52:17Speaker 1: he monetize that? Man? Look? Man to see him on CNN, Man,
- 52:21Speaker 1: I see him on CNN. Yeah, man, you know that
- 52:24Speaker 1: came from somewhere right. You know, I'm just messing with
- 52:26Speaker 1: you to Ray like it's all love. Man, I'm just
- 52:28Speaker 1: saying to you that in general, though no one turned
- 52:32Speaker 1: it into Like what I'm trying to say is and
- 52:35Speaker 1: wrap you know everything else. Man, they franchise everything rap.
- 52:42Speaker 1: You know, we do it late, and if we do it,
- 52:46Speaker 1: we don't allocate the funds properly. It's just it's crazy. Man,
- 52:50Speaker 1: we're the trendsetters. But that's not what sets us back.
- 52:53Speaker 1: What sets us back. It's how we like, how we
- 52:57Speaker 1: allocate and how we you know, adjudicate. Yeah, I think that,
- 53:02Speaker 1: like we said earlier, right, I think that finally there's
- 53:05Speaker 1: a generation of I think the newest generation of artists
- 53:09Speaker 1: is finally starting to become hip to that, right, you know,
- 53:12Speaker 1: the fourth wall's kind of broken down. You know, there's
- 53:16Speaker 1: a direct to consumer connection with fans now that never existed, right, true.
- 53:20Speaker 1: So imagine if in nineteen ninety eight you had your
- 53:24Speaker 1: opportunity to talk to your fans directly, address them directly
- 53:28Speaker 1: or say hey, swipe up on my story and by
- 53:33Speaker 1: you know, the new fucking cannabacility or whatever, you know
- 53:36Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Like, it's just I think now that
- 53:39Speaker 1: the fourth walls kind of start to be broken down.
- 53:41Speaker 1: Like there are a lot of artists who are taking
- 53:44Speaker 1: advantage of the things that they try to I guess
- 53:46Speaker 1: maybe keep from the artists, you know, because yeah, yeah, okay,
- 53:51Speaker 1: so when I understand exactly what you're saying, and you know,
- 53:54Speaker 1: I got a caveat to that. So so yeah, right,
- 53:57Speaker 1: get your record uploaded to this site, and they're going to,
- 54:00Speaker 1: you know, go ahead and put this out depending on
- 54:02Speaker 1: what package you buy and so forth and so on. Right,
- 54:04Speaker 1: but then, but then, but then, you know, then you
- 54:06Speaker 1: got guys like like eighty who you know, can give
- 54:10Speaker 1: you can make sure that your records get uploaded to
- 54:12Speaker 1: these sites or whatever. But there are still hand to hand,
- 54:15Speaker 1: you know, I visited them. I went to the warehouses today.
- 54:17Speaker 1: You know, I know I've seen I've seen that many
- 54:19Speaker 1: posted like there's real physical copies. But that's how it
- 54:22Speaker 1: has to be done. It can't just be you uploaded
- 54:25Speaker 1: to a site. You gotta have a middle man that's
- 54:27Speaker 1: gonna a Jedi that's gonna go out there and get
- 54:29Speaker 1: these things for you. If you just uploaded to a site.
- 54:33Speaker 1: I'm here to tell you because I get I get
- 54:35Speaker 1: the quarterly, the court, I get the quarterly. It's a
- 54:39Speaker 1: it's a much it's a much higher or more steep
- 54:41Speaker 1: mountain to climb. To get your money on the street,
- 54:43Speaker 1: and I'm gonna sewing you. I'm gonna give you the facts.
- 54:47Speaker 1: I get the envelopes, the quarterly envelopes of the royalties,
- 54:50Speaker 1: and you know, you know, zero point zero zero zero
- 54:55Speaker 1: one eight is what you get on a play, right,
- 54:58Speaker 1: so it's it's an eighth of a penny. So now
- 55:02Speaker 1: you know, so you get to a million, two million plays? Right?
- 55:06Speaker 1: What is that? Like? Six thirty thirty eight bands? Right?
- 55:11Speaker 1: That was fast? All this man's a savant. That was
- 55:16Speaker 1: freaking fast. I mean a million on Spotify is about
- 55:19Speaker 1: I like to know, a million on was fast? A
- 55:22Speaker 1: million on Spotify's about thirty eight hundred dollars, all right,
- 55:24Speaker 1: So so I'm here to tell you, man, like a
- 55:27Speaker 1: million on Spotify, that means that you're you're you are
- 55:30Speaker 1: obscenely popular right now? Right? Not really popular? Yeah, thirty
- 55:36Speaker 1: eight hundred bucks. Hold on, what does thirty eight hundred
- 55:39Speaker 1: dollars do for someone who is that popular? Listen, bro
- 55:43Speaker 1: all you can do is get into trouble with that.
- 55:46Speaker 1: All you can do is go to the mall right,
- 55:48Speaker 1: blow it on next week's outfit, right, and be broke
- 55:52Speaker 1: or go or go or pay your rent for the month.
- 55:54Speaker 1: That's all you can do. One month, that's all you
- 55:56Speaker 1: can do. So now all that you know package just
- 56:00Speaker 1: in the GHLFT stream flying here, and that you're putting
- 56:03Speaker 1: yourself in harm's way just to catch up to what
- 56:07Speaker 1: you've already done. You've already sold a million plays. So
- 56:10Speaker 1: this is what I'm talking to you about. You know,
- 56:13Speaker 1: let's not let's not let's let's let's call it what
- 56:16Speaker 1: it is here, man, this is already set up. You're
- 56:19Speaker 1: already set up for failure. So you know, as opposed
- 56:23Speaker 1: to focusing on the beefs and you know, all these
- 56:27Speaker 1: things that can be worked out to disagreements to you know,
- 56:31Speaker 1: you know what I mean, musical styles. You know who's
- 56:33Speaker 1: living on this side of the world and who's living
- 56:35Speaker 1: here and there, like, As opposed to focus and all that,
- 56:38Speaker 1: there's got to be some kind of a you know
- 56:40Speaker 1: what I'm saying, regulatory body. And I'm talking about even
- 56:43Speaker 1: off paper, like nothing that you gotta sign, but just
- 56:45Speaker 1: some kind of a lodge, something that's put together. The
- 56:49Speaker 1: brothers can come together I'm talking about from all walks
- 56:51Speaker 1: of life and try to have strategies that protect us. Right,
- 56:57Speaker 1: I'm not trying to do that, just for anybody listening
- 56:59Speaker 1: and thinking, like with somebody I'm trying to get I'm
- 57:01Speaker 1: not trying to do it. I'm the one to be
- 57:03Speaker 1: the one to do it. I wouldn't even take a job.
- 57:04Speaker 1: And then if somebody came to be with something like that.
- 57:07Speaker 1: But someone out there that's listening, that has the wherewithal
- 57:11Speaker 1: and the and the and the mental faculty to handle
- 57:14Speaker 1: the pressure of that should take that on. You know,
- 57:17Speaker 1: I'm going to nominate you because that math, that mathematic
- 57:21Speaker 1: maneuver that you just did right now was so fast,
- 57:24Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, So fast with so oppressed
- 57:28Speaker 1: with that, bro, It's crazy. I mean, but ye, what
- 57:38Speaker 1: year did you enlist in in in in the UH
- 57:41Speaker 1: with you on the army? Right? Yeah? One o one?
- 57:43Speaker 1: So that was was that right after BC? It was
- 57:46Speaker 1: so so two thousand. BC came out in two thousand. Yeah. Yeah,
- 57:50Speaker 1: so you know, kind of give it, give us like
- 57:54Speaker 1: a how was your experience? Man like, like like one
- 57:57Speaker 1: and this is a September eleventh happens yes in the
- 58:01Speaker 1: army years right after September eleventh, so pretty much you
- 58:07Speaker 1: know that experience. I mean, what can I say, man
- 58:10Speaker 1: like I at that time, I made a record. It
- 58:12Speaker 1: was it was the See True How Stories. That was
- 58:16Speaker 1: the album. The album was you know, it was satire.
- 58:19Speaker 1: I've heard people say, yo, satire, it's true. It was.
- 58:22Speaker 1: It was. It was just done to kind of like,
- 58:26Speaker 1: uh like allegorically like make an album that was, uh,
- 58:31Speaker 1: you know, just get under the skin, you know what
- 58:33Speaker 1: I mean of folks that was saying that, Yo, man,
- 58:36Speaker 1: I need the records to be harder. I want you
- 58:38Speaker 1: to spit harder, the beat, the lyrics, you know, I
- 58:40Speaker 1: want more. And then and then I gave them less
- 58:43Speaker 1: right by making a record like that. And the record
- 58:45Speaker 1: was was strictly just something that it wasn't serious, but
- 58:49Speaker 1: it was like something that it was. It was it
- 58:52Speaker 1: was still palatable, something that was tangible. You could have
- 58:54Speaker 1: went out and got the artwork. You look at it,
- 58:56Speaker 1: open the fold out. You know, who's this guy wearing
- 58:59Speaker 1: that shirt? Why is he writing that? And then you know,
- 59:01Speaker 1: we paid twenty five bands for the Source ad, you know,
- 59:04Speaker 1: to run that ad. Graz the Source and you know what,
- 59:07Speaker 1: the Source was scared to run the ad because of
- 59:11Speaker 1: the relationships that they were saying could have been ruined. Right,
- 59:15Speaker 1: and they did it for the money, of course they did.
- 59:17Speaker 1: You know, they're just what I'm trying to say. So
- 59:19Speaker 1: and then after that they turn around and black balled
- 59:22Speaker 1: me further, you know what I mean, and took money,
- 59:25Speaker 1: you know what I mean to like black ball me right,
- 59:28Speaker 1: So you know you're talking about that record was made
- 59:30Speaker 1: like at the way I felt at that juncture, it
- 59:33Speaker 1: was like, you know what, rapping it. You know what,
- 59:35Speaker 1: I'm still young enough to go out and make a
- 59:38Speaker 1: difference and something else, yes, right, and and pretty much
- 59:41Speaker 1: like be a guide you in a way, you know,
- 59:44Speaker 1: try to do something good. Right. But then of course,
- 59:47Speaker 1: you know, you make records and you know, you do
- 59:49Speaker 1: a record like and you do record like draft Me,
- 59:53Speaker 1: and you say a lot of crazy stuff on the record,
- 59:55Speaker 1: and then you know, you grow, you get older, you
- 59:57Speaker 1: see things. You know other people see that you. You know,
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: you become privy certain things, and you're like, man, wow,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: it's like, you know, everywhere you turn, you're trying to
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: make a difference, trying to make a change, and uh,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: you kind of find yourself like adding on to some
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: of the things that have made the world more disconnected.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: Right because before and after pictures tell you a lot
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: about you know, what what what? How good something was
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: right before and after pictures? Right? Yep, So that's all
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: really you got to do. Man, that's my answer to
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: how many how many years were you in the service?
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: I mean, you know, got in and O four is
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: supposed to be two, right, We got in O four,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: got in No. One and got out in No. Four
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: and then you had did you you went overseas? No,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: that's not you didn't. You didn't end up going over
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: I didn't do that. Yeah, it's just an interesting experience,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: you know, because it's like I remember seeing that in
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: whatever magazine, like, oh shit, cannabis is in there. I mean,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: you know, I mean I did. I did right doctrine
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: for the Strikers bro like the first brigade to have them.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: You know. I always was like a getaway driver kind
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: of guy. And even though I was a scout nineteen Delta,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: you know, I got was I was on the three
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: truck man Striker Brigade road doctor and help write doctor
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: for those vehicles. They perform and they definitely use me
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: to test them, test the performance. That's big. Yeah. No,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: do you think that at that point in time mentally
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: you were just this rap shit is enough because I
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: feel like the you know, the industry wasn't good to you.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying after that first outshiate you
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: even like, you know what I mean, just just saying that, man,
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: You know, I appreciate you, even just saying that, man,
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Like I'm not looking at yo. Listen, man, I'm not
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: a bleeding heart myself, so I don't really you know listen, man,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: people have been dealt worse hands, right, true. But the
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: thing is just when you just look at the potential
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: of certain things, right, some people, it's gonna sting them
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: harder because of what they were, you know what they
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: were innocently trying to you know, trying to increase or
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: help or assist that it's going to sting those folks
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: harder because it's like you come into something bright eye Bush.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: You telled, you know, nobody's innocent when they're one hundred
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: years old, right, But when you're twenty, you know, you're
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: innocent of a lot of the things that you wouldn't
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: be at forty or fifty, right, right, So at that age, man,
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: come on, man, I was innocent, like in terms of
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: like what I was trying to bring to the game
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: with music, you know, and yeah, I mean I can't
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: say it though, I can't say that the industry wasn't
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: good to me when you say it, you know, I
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: just say, hey man, and I applaud. I just remember specifically, obviously,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: at a certain point in time, it felt like you
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: were like the industry's next guy. Everyone was behind you.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: I mean I remember seeing you had you had your
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: source cover. You were you were very much uh you know,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: I remember like the na's main source moment, you know
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: what I mean, Like it almost felt like that was
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: like the closest thing where it was like yo, live
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: at the bar because it's a kid no, And then
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: you were kind of like the ninety six ninety seven
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: version of that, right, and the first album comes out,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: it's I you know, I thought there was some shit
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: on there, like and word nometry and get retarded. I mean,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: you know, there's some fucking amazing records on there. But
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: for whatever reason, it felt like you nowadays, people get
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: more than one go. I feel like people kind of
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: that album came and went, and like maybe the Beef
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: was like a even though you want it might have
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: been a bigger curse than a you know, it was
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: a kind of a gift in a curse. A man,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: it's possible, Like I really, I really will tell you that.
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: You know, what what I was up against, I really
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: didn't know at that time, right, And then by the
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: time I figured it out what I was up against
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: everyone of the abandoned ship, I was pretty much by myself, right,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: and it was something that I realized what it was
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: or what I thought. It was definitely a heavier pill
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: to swallow than you know, didn't then being something simple
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: to mitigate, something to figure out and get out of.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: But I was in the middle of it, so I
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: couldn't quit. I couldn't lay down and I couldn't just
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: sit there and wait for you know that that that
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: grindstone that grinds everything to dust, you know what I mean.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: So I had to keep it pushing, and that's what
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: I did, and that I'll give you know, I give
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: all all all praise to the creator for me still
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: being here now, because there were dark times there, things
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: that went through and and you know, right now though
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: even though you know we talk about your other industry
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: this that and yeah, but you know what, though, like
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: the Kaiju released this Kaiju record, a record man like
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: you got militone of magic, you got like for whom
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: to be told you have all lyrical law, you had
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: ripped the jacker like there were records they mic clued
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: the curriculum. There were a lot of records that came
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: out in Time Flies. There were records that came out
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: after that that I'd say the brotherhood, like the fan base,
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: the listeners, the rippers, like people that they don't care
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: what the game talking about, what the industry talking about.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: They want to hear what Candles got to say. They
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: came through in the clutch, right, and they stepped up
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: to the plate in such a way where I mean,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: if that's all that there is, or that's all that
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: you can walk away from with it, I gotta tell
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: you that I'm more than blessed to have that, or
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: to have secured it through that same innocence older than now.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: I'm not perfect, right, but some of that innocence is
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: still there. And this brotherhood that I'm talking about, they
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: have reflected that innocence and I see it. And when
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: they come to support they knowed it was a lot.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Don't know exactly what I was burying on my shoulders.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: But they know it was a lot and now they
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: kind of like they stepped to the plate. I mean,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: these people they're older now. Like all the rippers that
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: were following me back in the nineties, they all got
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: kids now, man, mostly all of them. They're all grown.
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: They all got you know what I mean, they all
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: made it to one of them. You know, I feel
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: you I first I was eleven years old when your
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: album came, you know what I'm saying, And and and
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: you know this pandemic for the last two years. Man,
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: like they're still out here getting it popping right, like subsisting,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: you know, like striving right, and then for them to
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: set aside, like you know what, I'm gonna get that
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: new album whatever, and then to be able to make
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: it number two. Of course, all the platforms. It's independent. Man.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: We just went to the warehouse we picked and people
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: are buying the physical copies. Yeah. So so so I
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: want to I want to. I want to. I want
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: to take take a snapshot of that and highlight that,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: because that is the moment where I can like like
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: look on what happened, you know, with with more of
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: like a you know what I mean. If if if
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: it wasn't real and it was all fake, then that
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: means the rippers now that I got wouldn't have existed.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: But they're here now. They're here because obviously Angels Man, Yeah,
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: I do think like you know, I think back to
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: like grateful for that is what I'm saying. And if
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: you really think about like I do, think, like the
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: big misconception is like your first album wasn't fire, right.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: I always thought it was great, right, And obviously, like
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: you said, you look at how many years later there's
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: still people who are putting money in your pocket for
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: a new album. So it obviously cut through to a
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: certain extent. But like I mean, maybe it just wasn't
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: the industry success that people would hoped to be. I
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: did one hundred and fifty thousand units for a week. Big,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying that most people would that
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: keeps the lights on. Most people would chop their arm
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: off you they keep do that. That's just the first week,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. The first week it was
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: number two on the billboard, like it was, it was
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Lauren and you know, right behind his number two on
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: Laurn Hell, Laura Hill was number one, right sound scan
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: that week. So who can be Laura? Nobody? Right? So, yeah,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: you know what I mean? So, and I remember, you know,
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: I remember being told like, yo, it's a failure, you
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: know why somebody at the label, right, and then and
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: then I remember that person's equal on the other on
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: the other wing of the building came and said, what
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: are you talking about? Like number two? This is your
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: first release. You'll never be able to get it, get
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: another first release again. You'll have other releases, but you'll
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: never be able no matter what you do, you'll never
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: be able to have a first release again. Enjoy it
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: for what it is, right, You're a champion, you know,
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: you know, you know, enjoy it. Don't be sad, right
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: because I was torn when when when the other one
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: came to me and said, it's a failure to such
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So, but but this and
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: I was young man, like you gotta understand like psychological
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: you know, games and abuse on that level, you know
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: what I mean, In a in a in a game
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: that was already like you know, everything's big, right, like Neil,
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: these these owners and all that, they had everything you
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: could ever think of, right, and we had me walking
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: in you have nothing. You know, you just want something.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: You don't even want what they got. Like when I
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: say innocent, I mean innocent. Like you know a lot
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: of the guys I remember from my area, we weren't
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: looking to have everything that they had. We were just
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: looking to have something right and to see that that
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: that kind of that that agreement was made that Okay,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: if you do this, this and this, you'll have this
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: and this and this, or you just have this and this,
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: or you just have this right And if you open
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: the door she was behind doing number one and knew
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: you'd have been like, look, man, let me just break
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: out right now, go to vocational school. Let me just
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: get this out the way right now, you know. So, yeah,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: I want to I want to highlight that, man, like
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: you know, you gotta you gotta, you gotta definitely you
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: gotta grow with your your fan base and you know
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: what I mean, And and sometimes they're growing with you,
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: but when when the tables turn, you gotta grow with them. Yeah,
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: give me a backstory on how Mike Tyson ended up
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: on second round knockot oh man, you know what I'm saying, Like,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: if you want to talk about Sucramar knockout again, then
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: we can easily focus on I don't want to talk
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: about the beef. I just want to talk about the
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: second round knockout. How did Mike Tyson end up on
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: the second round knockout? No? No, I mean listen, this
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: is Mike second round knock out one more time. I
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: just want second round knock ye how did Mike Tyson people? Yeah,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: this is what y'all want, right, So, you know, I
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: don't even want to talk about the beef. I just
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: want to know Mike Tyson getting on that record, How
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: did that happen? I'm story. I'm gonna tell you. I'm
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: gonna tell you first. I want you to tell me
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: when's the last person you heard somebody ask Mike Tyson
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: about cannabis. I don't know. I would, though, no, but
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: nobody has. I'm gonna tell you why she punching in
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: your neck? You know I would ask him? Yeah? Sure,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: I would. Sure. I just don't think people are talking
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: to Mike. You know, they don't want to do that, right.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: But the whole thing is this, At the time, there
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: were friends of mine, you know, shout out to like
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: you know, I don't even want to say his name.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: Because I say his names, like him throwing his name
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: and and something that had so much drama about it.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: But there was a there was a friend of mine
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: where was working closely with both business wise and just
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: like you know, we we put projects out together, right,
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: and you know, he was able to get in contact
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: with you know, another close friend of Mike's, uh female,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: you know, and then she had a son, and that son,
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: you know, I don't want to say, I don't want
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: to say people's names, throw it out there because these
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: people don't want to hear about this ship, you do,
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: you see what I'm trying to say. So I would say,
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: you know, they they wanted to uh, they wanted to
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: work with me, so they took it to Mike and
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: when the when the son, you know Mike's you know,
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: Mike's sister, her son, so his nephew heard the record
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: and her her name and it was me. He was like,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: oh man, you gotta listen to what else he's doing,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: and he would throw that up and Mike was like,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: oh man, that sit hard, all right? Yeah, So it
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: happened just like that. There was no there was no
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: animosity in it. It was a record that was made
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: like more out of like Okay, okay, this hip hop's
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: getting interested now you understand what I mean. And there
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: was innocence to it, is what I'm saying. But just
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: because it was like an airstrike of sorts, it felt
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: and it was to the big Empire, you know what
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: I'm saying. That basically ran rap. It turned into something
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: where it's like, man, you just woke up the great
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: dinosaur man, like you know, the t Rex Man, and
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: it turned into something else. But Mike was just Mike
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: was with it just because it sounded dope. It was dope,
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Were you in the studio
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: with him when he laid his absolutely you know what
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: I mean? What was that like? Because I think off
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: like the equivalent would be like if Lebron James jumped
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: on someone of the diss record in twenty twenty one,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: because Mike Tyson in ninety eight is i mean roarguably
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: the most famous athlete him and Jordan, you know what
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: I mean. I was witness to it. So what was that?
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: What was that like being in the studio with Mike Tyson? Okay,
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: so so so to add clarity to it and be
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: fully transparent he didn't come to the studio first and
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: do the record. I was in the studio with him
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: several times, but he didn't do this the record in
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: the studio. That was done on a on a dat recorder,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: you know at the time, that type of dat recorder,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: that piece of qums like two bands man twenty five
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: hundred and it was. He did it's part in the
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: comfort of his own home. We were in Vegas and
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: his home next next door was the Sultan of BRUNEI.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: You know, funny story about that. Mike took me over there.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: You know, I got to see the Sultan Bruni's home
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: and all that. You know, yeah, you know, horse track
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: on the grounds, you know, pretty much went around the
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: whole grounds. Laser being security at the time, satellite laser
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: security at the time, like just crazy, right, And Tyson
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: did the drops like in the comfort of his own home,
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: and we you know he did he said, no one
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: told him what to say. He that's what he said. Yeah,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: and then took that and you know, chopped it up.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: And you know when the part in the beginning, when
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: when the door is there and I go to the monastery.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: You know, if you look at it, man, it was
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: so I really like slide Stallong, you understand what I mean,
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: And I built I wrote the treatment for that song
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: like out of like a rocky kind of the rocky vibe,
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: the vibe from all the rockies with or even like
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: the clean East with vibes where you know, somebody shows
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: up to the town, they wipe your family out, they
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: take everything from you. You know, they break they break
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: your strong hand. You know, you gotta come back and
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: learn how to shoot with the other one. You know
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: what I mean. You gotta you know, you gotta make
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: a complete comeback and then you ride back into that town. Right.
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: That was That was what the second round knockout record was.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: It wasn't a first assault. It wasn't you know what
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: I'm saying. It wasn't an air strike. It in the
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: middle of the night. It was a response to something.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Of course, that's all. I think people forget that too.
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: It was a response. You get where I'm coming from,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: and no response. And but but you know what, though,
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: we cleaned all that up. We cleaned it all up.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: And I couldn't have made the cleanup any bigger. If
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: I could have, I would have. But I couldn't have
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: made the cleanup any bigger, that's up to other you know,
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: other hands, right, other steady hands. Right. So you know,
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: here we are again. Man, we're talking about something that
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: was cleaned up, but the cleanup wasn't as big as
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: the is the mess, right, So the mess is still there.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: That's why you're asking me about Well, I'm asking about
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: Mike Tyson. It's the same ship. No, I think. I
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: just I just think like to be able to to
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: to have experiences with nineteen ninety eight Mike Tyson. Yeah,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: it's so crazy, Oh, Mike, Mike in ninety eight Mike.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Mike was firm for it though, right, he was firm
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: because he I think that I think that he I
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: mean when I went to his home in Vage, Man,
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: there was so many books on that bookcase, man, and
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: he's read every one of them. And I think people
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: now know this, right, But at the time, I don't
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: think anyone could have been imagined that he was that studious. Right,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: But when you look back on it, it makes sense.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: It makes sense. He was real strategic. But you know,
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: let's think about it, man, During that time in ninety eight,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: he had already gone through some of the real madness
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: you know what I mean, in his life and he
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: turned all that around, you know what I mean? And
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: now people don't even really talk about that madness no more.
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: They let him live, I know, but I'm saying they
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: let him live, but me, I'm still here. I can't live.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: Y'all still want to talk about the madness, and I
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: just don't understand, Like, what the fuck is it? Man?
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: I mean, it's just hip hop history. Man, it was
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: his hip hop history. But yuah, but everybody has heard
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: it already. They just haven't had me sit in front
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: of him and say it to him, but they've heard
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: it already. I'm confused, man, I'm so disappointed man. Now,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: I mean I think that you know, for me, it's
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: just more of the angle of life. So let me
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: ask you this. Like I said, it's like if Lebron
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: James was on a record, I would want to know
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: how did how did Lebron? You know? You know that's
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not agree with you, man, I'm not
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: even kicking the tires. I'm not on you. You know
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I'm not on you. I'm just I'm
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: just I'm just I'm just I just kind of like,
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: I get it, yo, I want to figure it out.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: I didn't want to figure it out before you start
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: talking about it to this this, but I do want
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: that you start talking about it like this. I'm really
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: it's like a It's like a Ruby's cube. It's a
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: puzzle that I don't know how it can be solved
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: where it's like, I mean, you know what I mean?
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: Can the nigga just live? But but let me ask
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: you this. Though you heard the album to Cadu, I
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: haven't listened to it yet. Yeah, I heard, I heard.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: Uh I think I did. I did check out one record.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: I think what was the what was one of the
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: what was the first record that came out? Man? That's
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: you ain't give a ship about cannabis. Man, that's not true.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: You listened to record. I just got off of a
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: ten day vacation with my wife for our anniversary. I
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: just got Sunday from Pooth, I got records. You could
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: have played the Punt, the Conna and to Loom and
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: probably wouldn't wanted to go to I was sitting on
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: the beach with the wife for our anniversary. I just
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: got back Monday night. I feel you so No, I
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: mean listen. It's not that I don't want to listen
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: to what I am going to. I just literally, you know,
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: I haven't gotten around to it. So it's records on there.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: There's records on Kaiju that some dope features. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: I got I got a DMX, just as ad libs.
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: You know, for those out there think I'm trying to
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: I'm not trying to tell people to go grab it
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: because X is on there. But that was my way
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: of paying homage to them and my relationship with them
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: and my connection to them, you know what I mean,
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: because I never had any way of making that possible
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: without without those ad libs, right, right, And you know
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: I think, thank uh, thank you, you know what I'm saying, like,
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: and are extraordinary for that right, making those connections. But
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: uh yeah, you know, there are records on Kaiju that
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: I would say, are you know, vastly more important than
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: anything that happened in ninety eight, But you know, into
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: years you will know. But then for those out there
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: who have heard it, they could probably agree. They could
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: come on and point out to you maybe five, six
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: or seven things inside of records that's the vastly more
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: important hapened in ninety eight. Do you feel like with Kaiju,
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: because what I'm noticing is like with the Horsemen release
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: and the and Kaiju, like you're it feels like you're
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: really taking advantage of the fact that, you know what,
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: you do, have a core fan base that will break
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: bread with whatever Cannabis does. And I think that sometimes
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: people forget that right, like, you know, like when you
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: put it out like you said earlier, right like, you're
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: not just going straight to streaming platforms. You're pressing up records,
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: You're you know, you have You're you're essentially giving something
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: tangible to fans still when that's not a thing. And
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: I think that, you know, shout out to the Griselda
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: guys have done a good job of doing that in
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: the last few years. I feel like it was dope
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: to see, you know, with the last couple of releases,
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: that was kind of something on the forefront of like
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: the business model of what the Kaiju record is. It's like, hey, look, man,
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: I'm still here, and let's make sure that not only
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: can you go stream it, but you can also hold
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: it well. To be honest, to be absolutely honest, because
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: it's all grassroots, there's really no promo money going and
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: there's nobody offering up any assistance with that. You know,
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: it's just this team, small team too. You can count
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: them on. You can count them on one hand, and
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: if need be, you can count them on two hands.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: But that's it. And I got to tell you that
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: we're not always absolutely sure that you know, there's going
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: to be any support for records. I mean, if you
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: go on Google right now, you type in cannabis kuiju,
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: it's not going to just come up. Bro. The site
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: that was built to support the record will come up,
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: but it's not coming up nowhere else. You understand what
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: I'm trying to say. So let's not take the narrative
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: and throw it somewhere else act like oh yeah, Ken's
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: got to solid fan base and all that. Like, No,
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: I got folks that, you know, by the grace of
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: the creator right are able to you know, you know,
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: stand on their own and their own lives. And they
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: just happening. You know, a little birdie says, hey man, bitch,
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: just drop the album. And then they say to themselves,
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: you know what I'm kind of going through right now,
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: let me see what BIS going through. Because I always
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: listen to bits when I want to go work out,
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: when I want to get motivated, when I want to
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: get inspired to like go out here and deal with
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: life and try to you know what I mean, try
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: to win, try to get a victory out of you know,
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: something that's really really, you know, hampering me right now.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: That's that's where I think it comes from. It's just
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: people saying, let me get this a shot to listen
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: to it. So the pressure is still on me to
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: make a record that's going to give them that extra Yo,
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: let me do two more sets, you know what I mean,
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: let me do you know what I mean. So that's
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: what it is. We're never like, we're never going into
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: it thinking it we're gonna certainly get this amount or
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: do this amount, because at the end of the day,
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: if you see the numbers or whatever, they're still small. Bro.
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: It's it's it's nothing compared to you know, like you know,
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: a shout out from a megamogul that you know, that's
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: that's out here, that's still with everything. I mean, I
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: would say, what you can do is what a lot
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: of people who might listen. We talked about a million
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: streams right right. I haven't done a million streams. But but, but, but,
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: but what you can do is something that a lot
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: of these kids can't do, and that's sell this and
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: you know, sell the pre order's But let's put it
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: in perspective. But let's put it in perspective like, they
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: can sell this, and they can do a million streams
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: and so forth and so on, but they don't have
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: somebody asking them about second round knockout and trying to
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: constantly box them in. See what I'm saying, like, I
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: would trade a clean slate for what you're what you're
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: praising me for right now, I trade it for queens.
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: That's how crazy all that shit was. But nobody understands that,
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: you see what I'm saying. Everybody comes and acts like, oh,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: you got so much, you can do so much, but
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: I'm shackled to that ship. Do you feel like that
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: you're do you feel like that's like obviously, look at
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: the end of the day, if you know, if you've
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: made hip hop history, you've been a part of hip
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: hop history, right, and you're also someone who's kind of
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: not accessible, not very you know, like I said, you
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: kind of get in and get approachable, not really accessible, right, Right,
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: So you know I think it's you have to kind
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: of expect we're sitting here for two hours, I'm gonna
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: bring it up. It's a highlight of you know, that's
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: that you know what that's if that's if you don't
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: really know the whole catalog, bro, Like, if you knew
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: the whole catalog. Like so I got like three thousand,
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: I've hearndred of some songs registered, right, registered which Nielsen
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: like sounds you know how much that is because you
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: did the math that fast, right, right? So that's so
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: let's let's take let's take registered songs in any rapper
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: ever maybe that maybe it is I could, I could
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: show you the proof, but and I probably would like
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: right after we get off. But now so in my
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: mind right and in the mind of the people who
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: know me best, that one song that everybody keep talking about,
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: if we just subtract that one song from the catalog,
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: there's still thirties. You get where I'm coming thirty seven.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: You understand where I'm coming from. I get it. So
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: that's exactly where we stand. I understand how that could
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: be frustrating. It's not frustrating to me. I'm almost I'm
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: almost looking at the rap community, like they're slow, and
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: this is why we're in the ship that we're in, right,
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: And that's why I've stopped trying to augment the direction
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: that that's going to get us, because they're not doing
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: it with me. They're doing it with all the artists
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: out here. They're taking narratives that will shackle people to
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: things that munk up the gears and make it so
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: that they can't you know, make an impact of value.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: They make it, they turn it into something that the
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: only value that can come from it is like you know,
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: the ops right, what they're selling and how they're changing
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: the narrative and how you know, maybe something unfortunately can
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: happen to the you know, to the to the to
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: the light, you know what I mean, or just the
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: balancer or the equalizer. They want something to happen to
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: the equalizer. Man. Well, listen. The way I look at
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: it is this, right. I think that that situation is
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: historical in the same way that I think that that
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: roundtable the UDMX pun and Mike Jeromino was historical. So
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: as a hip hop fan, as someone who participated as
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: a consumer in that era, like you know, personally, something
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: I want to you know, I want to ask you
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: about that day. Okay, you were sitting at that table
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: in the same way I want to, you know, ask
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: you about I specifically remember participating as a fan in
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: that situation. So it's beautiful, man. And yet again I
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: can stand here on this side of the fence and say, okay,
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: so let's look at the round table, like what happened
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: to everybody on the panel, like including me, man, like
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: or any of the potentially everybody was on that panel.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: Potentially did any of us even get to like half
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: our real potential? I think really it was just X. Right,
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: you're saying X got to half of his potential, and
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: I think got fully too. I think I meant the
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: end of the day, DMX had what five or six
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: number one albums in a row? Oh so you're talking
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: about materialism then now five five at materialism? No, I
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: just means of commercial success. So that's his potential was
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: commercial success? I mean, what are we talking about? I mean,
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: because I said potentially, they reached half their potential? Like,
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: what do you think that anybody on that panel reached
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: half of their potential? That's what you think too. I
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: don't think he reached half his potential, Like you're talking
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: about records and sales and money, right, But even when
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: he passed, there were issues like surrounding like what money
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: is going where? And what's going to agree? I don't.
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: I don't agree because it depends on what what scope
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: are we looking at him? It's one scope. It's only
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: one scope. Everybody sitting at that table, right, Okay, did
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: they reach half their potential? Because I feel like if
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: any of us at that table have reached half potential,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: it would be like obscenely visible now and not just
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: financially you get and so and so and so. That's
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: why I will always push back with that kind of conversations.
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: People come with that ship. I just look at it like,
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: damn man, hip hop is so look man, I'm gonna
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: push back like I always would saying that. You know,
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: it's like we're hunted, bro. It's like we're hunted, man,
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, And somebody somewhere is not
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: satisfied until everybody on the panel. It's like it's like
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: some kind of fucked up horror film, man, you know
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: what I'm saying, or novel. That's the way I look
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: at it, and that's the way. A lot of people
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: that listen to my music look at things, man, because
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: you know what, unfortunately it looks like that's the way
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: it is. Everybody else is slow to catch up. Man.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: Everybody else think that it is just about this material
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: stuff or you know, you did reach all this potential
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: because your name is everywhere. But you know what, are
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: you miserable? It's your family miserable. You know what I mean.
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: There's certain things going through, certain hardships where you got
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: to look at it and be like, damn, considering all
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: of the people that would look up the X and say,
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: you got me out of some real rough times, brother,
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: and I love you for it, and I'll always support
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: you for it. You know sometimes people tell me that
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: definitely not as much times as X has heard that, right,
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: and so you know, yeah, I mean I think I
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: just get sad, Bro. I get sad when people try
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: to act like what they've done, like like what what
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: the game is? You know, giving back to us is satisfactory? Man,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: I pushed back, Bro. I disagree. I mean, and I
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: told you in general, I mean, I think in general,
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: the industry, as as as you know, was was rough
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: towards you. Okay, well you're telling me that shit stinks.
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: I'm telling you though, that that what what happened, that
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: the reason behind what happened. I'm pointing in the direction
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: at it. I can't isolate what it is because I
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: can't breathe air that far up in the clouds. But
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: you know, because it's rarefied up there. But trust me
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: when I tell you, man, like the fans really do
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: you know if it's not if it wasn't for them,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: like you know some of the things that you see,
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: Like you look at that panel, dudes wouldn't even being
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: able to get what they got, Like now you know
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: what I'm saying, And that that's the part that that's
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: the part I push back on if somebody's coming to
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: try to say, oh, yeah, well you guys, because you're
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: not the only one, boss, it's not your fault. You're
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: not at fault here you just and then here I
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: am like just giving you like, yeah, look at the panel.
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: You talk about the panel, Like, look, so how you
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: think I feel like being it? I was on the panel.
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: I feel like a small part of me is felt
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: like I'm carrying a flag for that right, and then
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: another part of me is like you'll stay away from
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: that shit. You understand what I'm trying to say. But
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: you want to know because you think the fans want
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: to know, so you drag me into that. Get where
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: I'm coming from. I think the fans would want to
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: know about that day. Fans don't give a shit about
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: that man. That shit has been on YouTube. Yeah, but
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: it's not about It's not about that video. It's about like, Yo,
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: what's the like, YO, tell me about that night. You
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I think people I don'tn't even
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: to remember that fucking night, Like if you want to
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: keep it all the way a bluck. That ship is
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: so much shit that's happened in my life, like like
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: that ship is like it's just an At the same time,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: I wasn't even like I said what I say when
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: you brought that up. I brought up I remember there
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: was no Yeah, I did say that. Yeah, but I
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: also said that Torrey, you know he did the sign
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: offs and there was no percentage kickbacks. If I got
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: a percentage kickback on that, I probably remember it a
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: whole lot better. That's real. You see what I'm trying
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: to say. So let's let's let's be you know what
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: I mean, let's be let's be pragmatic about what we're
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: talking about here, man, because I don't even like doing
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: interviews because every the narrative, they always grabbed the narror
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: and it's always somebody just slower than me. You know
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: what I'm saying, that grabs the narrative and takes it
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: and go somewhere else with it, and then I end
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: up in the middle, and I end up being the
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: bad guy when all I'm trying to do is just
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: like the Kanju record, I'm trying to I'm trying to
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: keep something afloat here, or I'm trying to assist or help,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: you know what I'm trying to say, Like it's always
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: been like that, and it just seemed like rap. You
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: know what it seems like to me, Man, I don't
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: gonna say this one. Shut up about it. It seems
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: like rap is the death of us. Rap is the
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: death of us bro. You know what I'm jump trying
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: to say, Like the artists that come out and they
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: make their music and they're impactful and they're you know,
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: there's some good in them, and they're out there and
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: they're making a difference for the better. Rap is the
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: death of them, not something else but rap. I mean
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: also literally and figuratively as well, because I mean we've
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: seen That's what I mean. That's what I'm and that's
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: a goddamn shame. That's all I'm saying. Man, Well, listen, man,
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: the new album. But let's not be sad about anything. Right, Well,
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: you got a new album out, The Horseman album is out,
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: you got a lot of you know, there's there's listen.
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: You've had a great twenty twenty one. As far as output,
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: what is uh you know is this Are you gonna
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: take a break or is this like with this new
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: energy of this new record, are you kind of do
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: you kind of have the bugs that she's you say
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: new energy? Yeah, I feel you. I really feel what
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: you're trying to do. What I'm saying is I feel
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: you like you've had a crazy year of output. Man,
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: Look I feel what you're trying to say. I really
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: asking like, like, are you gonna it's not working? Are
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: you going to keep staying in the studio? It all depends, man,
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: the creator makes that decision, not me, Like the big
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: g God makes that decision, not me. And we've seen that,
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: right with so many other things, so many other people
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: and people that we love, artists we love. Right, we
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: don't make I don't make that decision anyway. But the
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: twenty twenty one there were some bright moments in it, right,
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: But on Kachu So I did a record called Covid Santa. Right,
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: when you listen to the record, you hear Covid Santa.
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: Covid Centta is a real snapshot to me of what
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: things are really like. That's that's the snapshot of what
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: things are that's twenty twenty one to me. Listen to
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: that record. If you listen to that record, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I mean, cod Santa. That
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: pretty much sums it up, right, I mean, you know, yeah,
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: it's but that to me is a snapshot of where
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: things are at. Right. So you know, all I can
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: say now is like, hey, we're still in the trenches, right,
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: you know, we take it day by day, you know,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: everybody out here pounding pavement to do the best that
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: we can. And then sometimes you know, we know that
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: something ain't working or whatever, when we keep it pushing
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: and we leave it alone. You know what I mean.
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: This is not some kind of resurgence to canvas or
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: nothing like that. Man, I'm still the same dude. It's
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: gonna do what makes sense. If it makes sense, you're
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: gonna do it. If you're feeling you're gonna do it,
