- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Before I get into today's episode, I want to let you know about a really cool webinar that my good friend Jody Mayberry and I are offering on Thursday, November the 16th at 4 p.m.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Eastern Standard Time.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: The webinar is called Podcast to Published, and this is a free life training on how to turn your podcast into a book in just 30 minutes a day.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Are you a podcaster who's always wanted to write, but you don't know where to start?
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: If so, I think you're really going to enjoy this training.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: And in this webinar, we're going to cover several things.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Number one, why a book is the ultimate tool to grow your platform and influence.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Number two, how to repurpose the podcast content you've already created into a book, no matter what your podcast format.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: And then number three, we're going to cover a simple process for writing your book quickly, even if you've never written a book before.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: I think this webinar is a must if you're interested in leveraging your podcast and your guests to promote your book, or if you want to use your book to promote and grow your podcast.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Even if you don't yet have a podcast, or if you haven't yet written a book, join us to discover how these two powerful tools can work together to build your impact, influence, and income.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: There's a link in the show notes, and I hope to see you there.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's get into today's episode.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Let me ask you a question.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Are you a glass half empty or a glass half full kind of person?
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: If your answer is that you're a glass half empty kind of a person, it means that you tend to focus on what you lack.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: But if your answer is that you're a glass half full kind of person, it means you tend to focus on what you have.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: So the answer is not really about what's inside the glass.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: The question is what's inside of you.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: It really comes down to how you see the world.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: It also affects how you perceive your writing and your potential for success.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: As a writer, you can look at the world in one of two ways.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: The first way is to focus on what you lack.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Maybe you lack a big audience, you lack a book contract, you lack the time that you would like to use for writing, you lack a certain amount of income or the connections you think you need, and so on.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: You spend a lot of emotional energy worrying and complaining about what everybody else seems to have, but you seem to lack.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: So you don't make a lot of progress because you have a negative mindset.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Now, the second way to look at the world as a writer is completely the opposite.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: The second way is all about focusing on what you do have.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: And make no mistake, in the history of the world, writers have never had it better.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Most of us have no concept of how good we have it as writers today.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Let's take just a second to take stock of what we have as writers today.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: We have the ability to use a free blog, free social media, or free video platforms to reach literally anybody in the world with an internet connection, which is pretty much everybody.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: We also have the world's most advanced, sophisticated communications and productivity device right there in your pocket.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: And of course, I'm talking about our smartphones.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: We have the ability to connect with almost anybody in the world via the internet or social media.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: We have access to more books and knowledge than the world has ever known, and the vast majority of it is free or very, very cheap.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: And we also have more options for publishing than any writer has ever known in the history of the world.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: So those are just a few things that we have as writers, and the list could go on much longer, of course.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: The Stoic philosopher Epictetus said he is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: So today I want you to take stock of all the blessings that you have because the glass is not half empty, it's actually completely full.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: A big thanks to today's sponsor, Plotter.

- 4:07SPEAKER_00: Plotter's intuitive visual interface lets plotting be the creative process that it's supposed to be.
