- 0:00That's tough. We're in a very tough spot.
- 0:03I think that what we're doing right now is a great benefit and
- 0:07virtue because it's an end around between this whole
- 0:11corrupt informational system, media system.
- 0:15We claim to believe in a God who spoke the universe into
- 0:17existence and literally raised himself from the dead, and yet
- 0:23we are not going to believe that anything.
- 0:25Else exists in the spirit realm, even though His word tells us
- 0:28that they do. Their bodies weren't permitted
- 0:31to go to sleep like humans do, and they weren't permitted to go
- 0:35to heaven. So they wander the earth.
- 0:39You know, I've seen the eyes turn black to unknown tongues
- 0:42being spoken. These giants would live way up
- 0:46in the highland. The old Braves, the young men
- 0:49would hide up in the trees and wait for one of these 12 footers
- 0:52to come walking down the bath. And they would jump on them and
- 0:55kill them, drag them back in the village, and the village would
- 0:58feast on the body. Then people start to get
- 1:06weapons, they start to get armor, they start to build
- 1:08cities, they start to fortify their cities.
- 1:10Now God looks down and there's violence everywhere.
- 1:14The. Battle.
- 1:14This war that we are at is not against each other.
- 1:18It's against these principalities and these rulers
- 1:20and these archons in the high places.
- 1:22It's really worthwhile to read the Bible yourself.
- 1:25Fear is one of the primary drivers of mind control because
- 1:29we have to take every thought captive and resist fear.
- 1:36You're going to have a testimony that is a justice case against
- 1:41the Kingdom of darkness. Hi, I'm Brian Godawa and you're
- 2:17watching or listening to the Millennial Mustard Seed podcast.
- 2:21Get ready for a RIP roaring adventure.
- 2:26Brian, it's a pleasure to be back with you again.
- 2:29And indeed, it's great to be back.
- 2:31I have here your newest novel, Judah Maccabee and the
- 2:38Abomination of Desolation, right?
- 2:42There's so much to unpack there, so it's just great to have you
- 2:45back again, you know, catch us up real quick.
- 2:48What's going on in Brians world? What have you been up to other
- 2:50than the release of this new book?
- 2:52Yeah, well, the the release is the big thing.
- 2:53Just within the last couple months and I'm actually, I can't
- 2:56tell you, I, if I told you what I was working on next, I'd have
- 2:59to kill you. Still a secret for my next
- 3:02novel. So look, when I release a novel,
- 3:05you know, I spend a month or two trying to promote it and then I
- 3:08got to get back on the track of, you know, for the next novel.
- 3:11And it's going to be still in the Watchers Chronicles of the
- 3:14Watchers series, which we'll explain here and I guess in a
- 3:16second, which is part of what Judah Maccabee is.
- 3:19I'm just continuing the series basically.
- 3:22And so, yeah, been been exciting, you know, this, this
- 3:27book, Judah Maccabee, it's two parts.
- 3:29It's a two novel set. And the reason why I was because
- 3:33it, there's just so much I realized, OK, I got to split it
- 3:35into two. Yeah, there you go.
- 3:38First one's called, like you said, abomination of desolation,
- 3:40first part and then the Spiritual World of Ancient
- 3:43Israel and Greece is a companion book and I'll explain that in a
- 3:49second. But Judah Maccabee is a part of
- 3:53the Chronicles of the Watchers series.
- 3:56And what that is, is is a series of novels stand alone, but you
- 4:00could read them in order and get something more out of it if you
- 4:03want. But most of them are based on
- 4:05the on the Bible or stories that intersect with the Bible in some
- 4:09way. And it's a retelling these
- 4:11stories through the divine council paradigm, which is the
- 4:15understanding that in the Bible it talks about spiritual
- 4:21principalities or powers, authorities in the heavenly
- 4:25realm who not only reside but interact with the earthly realm,
- 4:31reside over it, but interact with the earthly realm.
- 4:33In fact, so much so that in the Bible, you know, you like in
- 4:37Deuteronomy 3288 through 10, you'll read about how God
- 4:41actually sets up the Gentile nations under these fallen sons
- 4:47of God who are these angelic beings?
- 4:49And in other places they're called watchers.
- 4:52And what they are is their spiritual powers who are over
- 4:56earthly nations or sometimes cities or sometimes kings,
- 5:02usually earthly authorities in some way.
- 5:05And they are, they are linked to them such that if you see a a
- 5:10war in on earth, there's a war in heaven that corresponds to
- 5:14it. And of course, you know, one of
- 5:15the classic passages that talks about this is Daniel 10, where
- 5:19it talks about the Prince of Persia versus the Prince of
- 5:21Greece. And those are scholars will
- 5:24explain that that concept there in that passage is not talking
- 5:29about earthly Princess, but heavenly powers.
- 5:32And that can't that the conflict that's described there between
- 5:36the Prince of Persia and the Prince of Greece is reflected in
- 5:39the historical situation of Daniel's shortly after Daniel's
- 5:43time period, where the Greek Kingdom of Alexander the Great
- 5:49was going to come in and fight against the Medo Persian Kingdom
- 5:52and conquer them actually. And of course, Daniel is a book,
- 5:56a prophetic book about history and what's going to be taking
- 5:59place within his lifetime and then beyond.
- 6:02So yeah. So that that's that paradigm
- 6:04that, you know, Gentile nations have these powers over them.
- 6:07So I've incorporated that concept into my novels.
- 6:10And so I'm retelling stories like Jezebel, the first book in
- 6:14the series, Harlot, Queen of Israel, a book on Moses against
- 6:17the gods of Egypt, and now Judah Maccabee.
- 6:20And now, of course, any Christian will immediately
- 6:24respond, wait a minute, Judah Maccabee, Who's that?
- 6:27If you, if you recognize the name Maccabee, you'll go, hey,
- 6:29isn't that in the Apocrypha? That's not the Bible, right?
- 6:32Well, as a matter of fact, if you're Catholic, it is in your
- 6:35Bible because it is in Catholic Bibles.
- 6:37Or if you're Eastern Orthodox, it will be in your Bible as
- 6:39well. But Protestants don't have it in
- 6:42theirs. And there's a, you know, we
- 6:44don't have to debate all the issues about it because I as a
- 6:47Protestant, basically I'm taking the same stance that the
- 6:53historic Christian Church has always taken from the early
- 6:57church fathers on into the Reformation and beyond.
- 7:01Where they, if you, those who did not believe that the
- 7:06Apocrypha was scripture still believed that they were
- 7:09legitimate historical resources and sources that were also
- 7:13helpful for the Christian Church.
- 7:15So you don't have to believe it's Scripture to appreciate the
- 7:18stories. And but in that so, So what I
- 7:24wanted to say was all this stuff that we're talking about.
- 7:27I'm, I'm writing these stories and they're quite, you know,
- 7:31elaborate at times and they're quite wild supernatural stories.
- 7:36And so I know that people are going to read that sometimes and
- 7:38go, this is, is this all made-up?
- 7:40I don't know about this, you know, or like is he playing with
- 7:43the word of God? No, I'm not.
- 7:45And So what I do is I provide a companion book that you can buy
- 7:50and that will I wherein I explain all the biblical and
- 7:54historical research. And that's the one spiritual
- 7:56world of ancient Israel and Greece.
- 7:58Many people will read the research book first so that they
- 8:01understand the context of what the story is being told.
- 8:04And it's been very helpful. But you don't have to if because
- 8:07I try my best to, you know, explain things within the story.
- 8:09But if you just like to go beyond, above and beyond and
- 8:12that's available little before you, and I've been doing that
- 8:14forever on on the series. So that's been an exciting
- 8:17thing. But so the other reason why I
- 8:21was writing this, so there's a couple of reasons why I was
- 8:24writing the book on the Maccabees.
- 8:25And one is I've always considered to be an interesting
- 8:30set of books. There's actually four books, 1st
- 8:32through 4th Maccabees. I'm drawing from the first two
- 8:36books, which are more historical.
- 8:37The other ones are more religious, philosophical and and
- 8:42the the Maccabees books begin by telling the story of the
- 8:47cleansing of the temple that happened in the 2nd century BC
- 8:52and it's the story of Hanukkah, how the the festival of Hanukkah
- 8:58originated. Of course, in the Gospel of John
- 9:01talks about Jesus himself going to the Feast of dedication or
- 9:04Hanukkah. Even though the festival's not
- 9:07commanded in the Bible, Jews have have celebrated it.
- 9:11Why? Because it's an amazing
- 9:13Braveheart like story of Jews in the 2nd century BC fighting for
- 9:19their freedom after being oppressed by the Greek Seleucid
- 9:23king by the name of Antiochus Epiphanes.
- 9:26And I'll I'll explain what that story is.
- 9:27But that's sort of the big setting scenario of the book.
- 9:32And there's another element of what interested me in the story
- 9:35was so this, like I said, this takes place around 168 BC is is
- 9:42when my story begins. And this is an important story
- 9:49for several reasons. One is it's takes place in this
- 9:55time period between the Old and New Testaments that scholars
- 9:58will call. I don't know if they do but but
- 10:01I've seen it. The silent years, do they call
- 10:04it? Yeah, God is silent.
- 10:07But yeah, 400 years of silence, meaning God is not speaking to
- 10:11his people. Why?
- 10:12Because the last prophet, Malachi, before the New
- 10:15Testament, before Jesus, Malachi was it.
- 10:18And Jews, many Jews acknowledge that for 400 years God did not
- 10:22speak to his people through the prophets.
- 10:25But not only that, but God's Spirit, Ezekiel in, in, in the
- 10:30exile when they went in the exile, which is when Daniel was
- 10:33a part of the exile as well. Ezekiel saw, he had a vision
- 10:36where he saw the Spirit of God leave the temple in Jerusalem
- 10:41and he never comes back. Now.
- 10:43This is why you read in the post exilic prophets Zephaniah and
- 10:47Malachi, you read about Yahweh returning to Zion.
- 10:51Well, Yahweh would return to Zion in the Holy Temple with
- 10:55Messiah. And that's what Jesus is when he
- 10:57comes into the temple. He is Yahweh returning to Zion,
- 11:00returning to the temple. And so this is this time period
- 11:03where God is relationally in a sense withdrawn from Israel.
- 11:06But that doesn't mean he's not. That doesn't mean he's not
- 11:10sovereignly controlling history. In fact, all the more it shows
- 11:15that God is ordaining history, even though He doesn't appear to
- 11:19be relating to them on the surface.
- 11:21It's very similar to the book of Esther, right?
- 11:23Where we everyone knows, every Christian knows the name of God
- 11:26is not in the book of Esther. Why?
- 11:28Because it's sort of making the point that even when it doesn't
- 11:31look like God's around, he's still orchestrating history.
- 11:34So that's how I see the Maccabees is the same scenario.
- 11:38God is sovereign over Gentile history as well as Jewish
- 11:41history, whether or not we think he is.
- 11:44And then so there's that theological thing that is very
- 11:47fascinating to me. And yet in the, in spite of
- 11:50that, this incident of, of where we get Hanukkah from is actually
- 11:57a fulfillment of some of Daniel's prophecies.
- 12:02So it actually is connected to the Bible, whether whether the
- 12:06book is or not, in the sense that it is describing historical
- 12:09event, This story that I'm going to explain in a minute.
- 12:14And it is it is prophesied in Daniel.
- 12:17And so that's why I think that's very fascinating.
- 12:21And so I want to look at that a lot closer.
- 12:24And when I did the research, you know, I looked into the
- 12:26Apocrypha, looked in the Septuagint, all these
- 12:28fascinating things that were going on in that time.
- 12:32This time period is a very crucial turning point in Jewish
- 12:35history because it's also the time period where the Sadducees
- 12:38and the Pharisees and the Essenes split created that were
- 12:43were created around this time period out of this event that
- 12:47became those same characters that we know about in the New
- 12:50Testament of Jesus, right. So, and then this is also a time
- 12:54period where it was the only sort of 50 years or something
- 12:58like that, where the Jews were not or had a a certain amount of
- 13:03freedom. They were still subjugated to
- 13:06the Kingdom of Greece and then Rome.
- 13:08But none the less, they, they won a, a certain measure of
- 13:12freedom in that time period, which is very unusual, right.
- 13:15So yeah, there's a lot going on there.
- 13:17And, and I wanted to tell that story.
- 13:20So the basic storyline is that around 169 or 168 BC, Antiochus
- 13:31Epiphanes is the king of Seleucia, or the Seleucid
- 13:36Kingdom. What is that?
- 13:38That's a Greek Kingdom that comes out of the the conquering
- 13:43of the world, the known. World at that Time by Alexander
- 13:47the Great. Yes, Yeah, It was broken apart
- 13:49in four. Different 4 kingdoms.
- 13:51Right. So Seleucus gets what?
- 13:53What area? Seleucus.
- 13:54Gets Mesopotamia and and the Levant and Syria, and then
- 14:03Ptolemy gets Egypt. So both of those names are
- 14:07Greek, the names of Greek generals.
- 14:09Then other generals got Macedonia and Anatolia.
- 14:13But but we're focusing on these two kingdoms.
- 14:15Why? Because they're the ones that
- 14:17are focused on in the prophecies of Daniel.
- 14:20So you've got the Greek king in the north who is Antiochus
- 14:24Epiphanes. And then the Greek king in the
- 14:26South is Ptolemy in Egypt. In between those two is Israel.
- 14:31And why is it important? Because Ptolemies, the the
- 14:35Seleucids, the Seleucids and the Ptolemies were fighting for like
- 14:39100 years, multiple wars. There's like 6 wars and the 6th
- 14:44Syrian war they call it. Is this what this story takes
- 14:49place in? So it's at the end of that those
- 14:50wars where So what you have is you have the, the, the Seleucids
- 14:56and the Ptolemies fighting for power and in between his little
- 15:00Israel and they, it gets tossed back and forth between those two
- 15:03kingdoms, right? And so that's why it's so
- 15:05important to the Jewish history. But what happens is at round 169
- 15:09BC, Antiochus gets enough power in his Kingdom where he's able
- 15:16to launch an invasion of Egypt. And he says, this is it once and
- 15:21for all. I'm just going to go to
- 15:22Alexandria, they're one of their key cities, and demolish them
- 15:25and take it over. He'd done it earlier, but he, he
- 15:28left. He just he, he, he came to
- 15:32Egypt, did some conquering, but then returned because he
- 15:36couldn't take the whole country. But this time he's going to do
- 15:38the whole thing, right. So he comes down there with all
- 15:40his war elephants and his armies and he's about to any surrounds
- 15:45Alexandria. But what happens is this is a
- 15:47time period. Now you've got these Greek
- 15:51kingdoms fighting for power, but meanwhile Rome is Roman Republic
- 15:56is growing in its power and it is becoming the main power in
- 16:00the region. And so and Rome of course needed
- 16:04Egypt for its grain supplies. And So what happens is Rome
- 16:09sends an emissary to to Egypt while the Antiochus is
- 16:16surrounding Alexandra. And he tells them, no, you're
- 16:19not going to do this. Go back home.
- 16:21Egypt is important to us and you're not going to screw this
- 16:23up for us. And Antiochus knows he can't
- 16:26fight both the Ptolemies in the South and Rome in the West.
- 16:29And I mean, and Rome is so powerful anyway, he knows his
- 16:31place and he returns. But, but, but on his way back,
- 16:35he's going to pass through Israel, right Jerusalem, and
- 16:37pass by Jerusalem. And he finds out that there
- 16:40there's a revolt going on in the city of Jerusalem.
- 16:43Now he thinks it's a revolt against him, but it's actually a
- 16:47civil war between competing high priests.
- 16:52One is Menelaus, who is the high priest that bribed his way into
- 16:57King Antiochus's realm, right? So he's the current high priest,
- 17:00but then the ex priest that had been kicked out, he comes in and
- 17:04attacks Menelaus in Jerusalem to try to take control because he
- 17:08thinks Antiochus Epiphanes is dead, but he's not.
- 17:12So but Antiochus gets there and he's so ticked off, you know, at
- 17:15this stuff that he just, you know, Jason flees with his
- 17:19armies because he knows he doesn't have he's like a
- 17:21guerrilla army. There's nothing to it.
- 17:23Mentalius, you know, accepts the king with open arms, but the
- 17:29king is so ticked that he goes on a rampage and he kills 10s of
- 17:34thousands of Jews for this rebellion and he institute's new
- 17:41laws. He says, you know, you Jews have
- 17:44ever since my father Antiochus the Great from decades ago gave
- 17:48you special privileges, everyone else in the, in the Greek
- 17:51Kingdom had been Hellenized. And, and to be fair, Jews were
- 17:56Hellenized too, but not all of them.
- 17:57They were allowed to, you know, they had, they, everyone spoke
- 18:02Greek, right? So there's a lot of Greek
- 18:03influence, but the Jews were allowed their special, special
- 18:08cultic obligations, covenantal obligations, circumcision, not
- 18:12eating pork and other unclean meats and such, right?
- 18:15And they had their holy temple. So they were allowed that
- 18:17freedom. But he says enough, you guys
- 18:20have caused so much trouble and you're going to be come fully
- 18:23Greek now. So he forces them to to no
- 18:26longer circumcise, to no longer have their dietary restrictions,
- 18:31they must eat pork, etcetera. And he sets up a statue of Zeus
- 18:37in the temple in Jerusalem and forces them to sacrifice unclean
- 18:42pigs and other animals on the altar.
- 18:45In other words, now you're going to worship Zeus as the high God.
- 18:48I mean, it's pretty radical like, right?
- 18:49I mean, very few have done that in history, tried to do that to
- 18:53the Jews. And the thing was there it in
- 18:56this time period, like I said, Hellenism had, which is, you
- 18:59know, the Greek of fication of the world, right?
- 19:01It had affected many Jews. So some of them went along with
- 19:05it and some did not. And those who did not were
- 19:09martyred and tortured. And the books of Maccabees talks
- 19:12about these martyrs and the pretty gruesome stories.
- 19:16And I actually incorporate all this, I'm telling you, is all in
- 19:18the novel. I've drawn from the books of the
- 19:20Maccabees as well as other historical sources to try to be
- 19:24accurate as I can. And so, and because of that
- 19:28martyrdom, it rises. Other holy Jews who refused to
- 19:33obey the king then became inspired to rise up and stand
- 19:37against the king. And the leader of that was a man
- 19:40named Mattathiah and his five sons, one of which was Judas
- 19:44Maccabeus or Judah Maccabee. Judah Maccabee is the Hebrew
- 19:48name of the Greek name Judas Maccabeus.
- 19:51So his family rises up there. They're a family of priests
- 19:54actually, and or his their father was.
- 19:58And they kill a bunch of Greek soldiers in their hometown and
- 20:01then they flee into the wilderness because they know the
- 20:04the Greek army's going to come after them.
- 20:06But they start to assemble a Greek, I'm sorry, set to
- 20:09assemble a guerrilla army from which they will, you know,
- 20:13attack the Greeks. And then it grows to become a a
- 20:16big army such that near the end of that story, they're able to
- 20:19cleanse the temple. From that statue of Zeus, return
- 20:23the temple back to its original pristine and condition and kick
- 20:28out the Greeks from Jerusalem and have that freedom for a
- 20:31while now. One of the 22 elements of that
- 20:37was when the Zeus statue of Zeus was put in the temple, the king
- 20:42stopped the daily morning and evening sacrifices.
- 20:46Now the prophecy people should recognize.
- 20:48Oh, that's that's in Daniel, isn't it?
- 20:50Right. Yeah, It talks about that.
- 20:52And he sets up what's called the abomination of desolation.
- 20:56And that is what the term means is abomination is an image of an
- 21:02idol that is detestable to God. And desolation means, think of
- 21:07it like a desert is desolate, right?
- 21:09So desolation means it is spiritually desolate.
- 21:13God is withdrawn, his presence, that kind of a thing.
- 21:16And now also people who recognize that term will go,
- 21:21hey, wait a minute. Didn't Jesus say that the
- 21:23abomination of desolation was in his future?
- 21:25Yes, he did. There was one that was in
- 21:28Jesus's immediate future. But there's two different
- 21:32abominations of desolation in the book of Daniel.
- 21:35So you have to study this and realize that in Daniel 8 and 11
- 21:39is talking about king Antiochus Epiphanes.
- 21:42And scholars have have proven that, you know, these these
- 21:45events in eight and 11 fit Antiochus perfectly.
- 21:49And then in nine and 12 is the one that Jesus is talking about.
- 21:53South abomination of desolation isn't some kind of generic
- 21:55prophecy and it's not, but it is a, a, an idiom, a term that you
- 22:01could technically use of anything that any image that's
- 22:05abominable that you put in a holy place, right, like the
- 22:08temple, you could call it an abomination of desolation.
- 22:10But specifically in Daniel, he's, he's saying specific
- 22:14events that are going to occur. And this is where he does talk
- 22:17about Antiochus, not by name, but you know, the king that sets
- 22:21it up. And, and, and you know, we could
- 22:23look at that passage if you want to, but but that's, that's the,
- 22:28that's the story that I tell throughout the two novels.
- 22:31And for those who want to go to learn more, at the end of the
- 22:35second novel, I have an appendix where I'd have the biblical
- 22:39research behind the abomination of desolation so that it can
- 22:41make sense. Because I know that when people
- 22:43hear some of these buzzwords like abomination of desolation,
- 22:46they've got all these prophetic ideas behind them that they
- 22:49assume. And you know, you have to be
- 22:52careful, like, wait, wait, let's just go back to the original
- 22:54biblical text and it's context and, and understand it from
- 22:58there. And that's why I tried to lay
- 23:00out at the end of the second novel for those who want to, to
- 23:03know more. But that's, that's the, the big
- 23:06story picture of, of what the story I'm telling.
- 23:10And, and the hero is Judah Maccabe.
- 23:12So I, I did forget to mention. So his family rises up, but his
- 23:15father dies and he becomes the new general of the army of his
- 23:19five brothers, and he's a great warrior, and he leads them to
- 23:24this. You know, like I said, it's like
- 23:25a Braveheart story. That's when I was writing this.
- 23:28That's the thing that stuck out in my head the most.
- 23:29This reminds me a lot of Braveheart.
- 23:31So people who love that kind of stuff will love this.
- 23:34Yeah, It has all the elements of a wonderful collaboration.
- 23:38It's a super relative. I mean, just from listening, I
- 23:41didn't get to read either one of these yet, but I'm going to
- 23:44invest some time because really zooming out real quick and then
- 23:49I want to backtrack. There's a couple other things I
- 23:51actually want to go back to and, and and talk about a little bit
- 23:53more. But zooming out, you know, we've
- 23:56the first time you came home, we talked about the power of
- 23:58storytelling and in the Bible is the onset.
- 24:01It is the standard of inculcating the minds right
- 24:06throughout every, every genre, every error.
- 24:09And so to see you kind of fill some gaps and and to write about
- 24:13this period that does not get a lot of attention, at least
- 24:15within, you know, the spectrum that I see into Brian and and
- 24:19give that, you know, creativity, but but also use the authentic
- 24:23source, the word of God, and to use, you know, locations and
- 24:26people. And and you know, here's where I
- 24:29want to back up though, just because it's not a problem for
- 24:31me and and probably not many of my listeners, but it is coming
- 24:36out of the Apocrypha. So I do want to backtrack a
- 24:38little bit and say, how thoroughly are you dealing with
- 24:41this with the Christians that are concerned?
- 24:43This is non biblical Canon, right?
- 24:47We clarified that in the Catholic Bible and either
- 24:51Ethiopian text, the Apocrypha remains legit to them.
- 24:55But let's talk about that a little bit more because there
- 24:57are some people that are going to fall by the wayside and I
- 25:00don't want to lose them. Let's dive into that a little
- 25:03bit. Absolutely.
- 25:04And that's, and I have the same concern.
- 25:06That's why I explained in much more detail in that book the
- 25:09spiritual world of Ancient Greece.
- 25:11But essentially the Apocrypha has a, a very interesting,
- 25:16fascinating history and which I bring a little bit of it into my
- 25:21novels. And what I mean by that is I'm
- 25:24going to speak somewhat imprecisely and then clarify as
- 25:30we go on, because there's so many things that that so many
- 25:33assumptions and so many different definitions, right?
- 25:36So the Apocrypha is different books that the church when they
- 25:43were, you know, debating over Canon, what should be in in the
- 25:46scriptures or not. The Apocrypha is a term that's
- 25:50in reference to a series of books including the Maccabees,
- 25:53others like Judith and Tobit and and Ecclesiasticus and some
- 25:57other titles. And they were books that tell
- 26:01things about Jewish history or, you know, similar to Proverbs or
- 26:04something like that and various stories.
- 26:07Judith and Tobit are both historical stories of Jewish
- 26:10characters and heroes and stuff. But it so the term, you know,
- 26:20the term actually means covered, I think, or, or, or something,
- 26:23you know, it's kind of like the opposite of apocalypse, which
- 26:25uncovers right in, in that, you know, their, their understanding
- 26:29was, how can I put it that it was an acknowledgement of the,
- 26:38of the debate going on at the time, whether or not they were
- 26:40in scriptures, right? And they weren't originally
- 26:42considered as such, But then as as people debated and they
- 26:45became more. Part of this at the Council of
- 26:47Nicaea, where they're determining what the Is that
- 26:51what you're referring to? I'm sorry, I don't.
- 26:52Think so. I don't know all the details of
- 26:54that, but but what interests me is this.
- 26:56It's part of their Their originals are in Greek, and the
- 27:02Apocrypha is tied to what we call the Septuagint, and the
- 27:07Septuagint is the Greek translations of the Old
- 27:11Testament. 70 in Greek, if I remember correctly it's the 70.
- 27:17It's called the translation of the 70 and the the, you know,
- 27:20the legend, which is partially historical.
- 27:22Was was that one of the Ptolemies?
- 27:25Ptolemy Philadelphus around 28250 BC, something like that.
- 27:31He, he was, he was the, the Pharaoh who who again, I
- 27:38remember, he's not Egyptian, he's Greek, but he's over, he's
- 27:41over the Egypt. But he was the one who
- 27:43established the great library of Alexandra, which we've all heard
- 27:47of, which was the most amazing library in history, right?
- 27:50Well, he wanted to use drunk from all the world's, you know,
- 27:53cultures and religions and stuff.
- 27:54And he basically hired 72 supposedly, what is it 6 from
- 28:02every one of the 12 tribes, 72 scribes to, to translate, right.
- 28:07And but originally it was only the Pentateuch, the first five
- 28:11books. That's that's the original
- 28:13Septuagint. Then over the next 100 years or
- 28:16so, they gradually other, you know, translations were added
- 28:20from the rest of what we know now is the Old Testament.
- 28:24But so this happens about, you know, 80 years before my story.
- 28:34And what's so fascinating about the Septuagint is when you use
- 28:38the word Septuagint now, it's it's referring to this book that
- 28:42we have that is the Greek texts of the Old Testament.
- 28:46Sometimes it actually includes the New Testament and it
- 28:49includes the Apocrypha. And what's interesting is Jesus
- 28:55and the apostles quoted about 80% of their quotes were from
- 29:01the Greek texts that we now call Septuagint, and then about 20 or
- 29:08less. Some of them were from Masoretic
- 29:10Hebrew and some were unknown translations that don't match
- 29:14either. So most Christians think about
- 29:17the Bible, they think all the original text Hebrew is the
- 29:19best, right? Well, what they don't realize is
- 29:22that the the Hebrew that the Bible translators are working
- 29:25from only goes back to about at best 600AD.
- 29:29But the oldest text we have I think is like 1100 AD.
- 29:32And that's not bad, but it's the Greek Septuagint or the Greek
- 29:38texts go back way earlier, much more closer to the days of
- 29:43Nehemiah when they rediscovered the, the word of God in the
- 29:47temple, right? And so the, the reason why the
- 29:50Septuagint is so important is that yes, it's a Greek
- 29:53translation, but it's much closer to the originals and it
- 29:57differs a lot in the Masoretic Text.
- 29:59And the Masoretic Text is sometimes a worse translation
- 30:03and sometimes it's not, but sometimes it is and in very
- 30:08significant areas, right? And so, So what Christians need
- 30:11to realize is that there's a bias going on even in, in Bible
- 30:15translations where they most Bible translations use the
- 30:17Hebrew as the base foundation. And then they go to the, you
- 30:22know, the Greek or the Septuagint as other expansions
- 30:26or references. But the thing was is the Old the
- 30:31New Testament apostles and Jesus quoted from the Greek so.
- 30:35How many times exactly they're they're quoting directly from
- 30:40that? Directly about 80% of the time I
- 30:42I don't have the actual numbers. It's OK.
- 30:44It's just like fluffing the point, if you will, right?
- 30:47I mean, it's right there in front of us.
- 30:49Exactly. So I'm not saying that the
- 30:51Hebrew text isn't worthy of course, but I'm just saying if
- 30:55the Bible, if the apostles in Jesus quote from it and they
- 30:58considered it Scripture and the Old Testament juice considered
- 31:00it Scripture, right. So that's one element.
- 31:04Another element is when we say, but here's the thing, you know,
- 31:08and my whole question was, does that mean that the Maccabees and
- 31:11the Apocrypha was Scripture then to Jesus and apostles?
- 31:14Actually, not necessarily so. And the reason why is because
- 31:17what we know of the book of the Septuagint is what we call a
- 31:22codex, which is, you know, all these books are bound into one
- 31:25book, right? Well, that didn't happen till
- 31:28after the fall of Jerusalem in 8070.
- 31:32And like in the second into the 2nd century, Christians were the
- 31:35ones that did that. So to be fair, Christians were
- 31:38the ones that put together the Apocrypha with that.
- 31:42But the Jews all up until that time period had never.
- 31:47There's no can't, cannot. There's no lists of canonical
- 31:51books that the Jews have that include the Apocrypha, and
- 31:56nobody had books until that 2nd century.
- 31:59So they were only individual scrolls.
- 32:01Therefore, when Jesus and the apostles are quoting from Greek
- 32:04translations, they're not quoting from a single book
- 32:07called the Septuagint. They're quoting from Greek
- 32:09translation scrolls, individual scrolls.
- 32:12So, you know, but over time, the word Septuagint just means, you
- 32:16know, that that special Greek codex that we have of all the
- 32:20books. But it's, it's helpful to know
- 32:22the differences. And This is why I personally
- 32:24don't accept Apocrypha as being scriptural because it was never
- 32:28included and, and, and it was never quoted by the apostles,
- 32:32you know, or Jesus. But I'm also also cautious.
- 32:37Cautious because there are like 6 or seven other Old Testament
- 32:42books that are not quoted by Jesus and the apostles.
- 32:46So there's a, there's a Gray area there where I certainly,
- 32:49you know, respect people who, who are seeking to, you know,
- 32:53know the truth and such. But I accept the, the
- 32:55traditional Canon that we have from the church body of Christ,
- 32:58you know, but that's a fascinating story, isn't it?
- 33:01You know, but here's here's the coolest thing of all to me, and
- 33:05that is that think about this. I was talking about God's
- 33:08sovereignly controlling history earlier.
- 33:10Well, if you look at Alexander the Great, right, he was, you
- 33:14know, I mean, he was a monster by many definitions because, I
- 33:17mean, you know, he conquered the known world more, you know, just
- 33:20about more than anybody had. Yeah, like 19 years old.
- 33:23Yeah, he's really young. He dies.
- 33:25Actually, I think he died at 33, because I remember hearing he
- 33:29died at the same age. Jesus, did you know?
- 33:31So that was around 300, 323 BC he died.
- 33:36But what's cool is this. So he's a tyrant.
- 33:39He's a dictator that forces all his conquered territories to
- 33:44become Greek. Now he allows them a certain
- 33:47amount of autonomy, but as nations.
- 33:49But they all have to learn Greek.
- 33:50And you know, he names a bunch of cities after himself, like
- 33:53Alexandria in Egypt. And and this, this Hellenism,
- 33:58Hellenization is what he instituted.
- 34:01And then over 100 or a couple 100 years, it became so thorough
- 34:05that everyone was saturated in it, right.
- 34:07But here's the interesting thing.
- 34:09So you could think of all that's colonization and you know,
- 34:12that's evil and such. And yeah, it is.
- 34:14And it's oppressive, etcetera. But think about it this way.
- 34:18Got If that didn't happen, then the gospel could not get out to
- 34:22every nation. Why?
- 34:24Because the Jews spoke in an obscure language that nobody
- 34:27else knew. All their scriptures were just
- 34:29in this obscure language. Nobody knows about them.
- 34:32And so consequently, by going into Greek, not only the, the,
- 34:36the the Jews accepted as Scripture, but that became the
- 34:40means by which other people could then read the word of God,
- 34:44ultimately to the point where that Koine Greek was the New
- 34:47Testament was in that, right. And then that's how they were
- 34:50able to spread the gospel to all the nations because they all
- 34:52spoke Greek. So they could quote from Greek
- 34:54Scriptures and, and, and that, and the Gentiles could read
- 34:58Greek Scriptures. So that's an amazing, I call it,
- 35:02you know, it's God's providential means of how he
- 35:06orchestrates even evil events in history to accomplish his good
- 35:09purposes in the end, which is the gospel spreading throughout
- 35:13all the earth. It couldn't have done that in
- 35:14Hebrew. It just couldn't have, you know.
- 35:16So those those are some of the amazing factoids that again, I
- 35:20do incorporate the name into my story in, in, in little ways
- 35:22that will be very interesting for, for for my readers.
- 35:27Yeah, it's really well said. And it's important to kind of
- 35:31get to the crux of the issue at times and lay that foundation
- 35:34about, you know, the the apocryphal writings and, and
- 35:37everybody has a different stance on that.
- 35:38And I respect people's opinions as well.
- 35:40But I do think it's more than worth the time to look into now
- 35:45to what extent people take that. Let each choose his own.
- 35:49You know, it's really interesting that you're talking
- 35:51about, you know, seen the providential wisdom of God at
- 35:54play. It seems to be a temporary, you
- 35:57know, failure, probably according to the lips of many
- 36:00that lived in that day where where you see the Greek
- 36:03language, you know, take over and and you could imagine how
- 36:08many Jews would have probably in their hutzpah were probably
- 36:13arguing and saying how, you know this, you know, ruthless people,
- 36:17you know, these uneducated swine here.
- 36:19They are literally advancing through something that belonged
- 36:23and was so sacred to them, You know, specifically talking about
- 36:26the gospel going out. It's really interesting how God
- 36:29does that. And I think we can see that
- 36:31template kind of over and over again.
- 36:32If you if you learn to kind of look at things the right way,
- 36:35you can kind of zoom in and out and just see, you know, glimpses
- 36:39of it. Really well said, man.
- 36:42So what what's the most unique thing about this time period
- 36:47where, you know, kind of go circling back to what you talked
- 36:49about in the beginning, We have 400 years between Old New
- 36:52Testament of silence, you know, but but this is in declaration
- 36:56to the prophets not hearing, right, Not through Ephod, not
- 37:00through whispering, not through dream, not through vision all
- 37:03the way that the Bible depicts that there's communication
- 37:06taking place through the prophets and God at that time.
- 37:08But God is speaking in the silence.
- 37:11I I do want to come back to the heart of that a little bit.
- 37:13And what really was the onset? What what kind of jumped for
- 37:17you? Like, yeah, this is the next
- 37:19story. This is what I want to capture
- 37:22and highlight. Let's dive into that a little
- 37:24bit more. Well, I, you know, like I said,
- 37:26I for me, the probably the, the, the, the thing that sort of
- 37:30struck me, you know, I kind of knew about it, but for some
- 37:33reason it didn't strike me till I started pursuing it more
- 37:35aggressively was. That's what's interesting for
- 37:37me, it's. Connection to Daniel, you know,
- 37:39and like, yeah, I heard about that and I knew about it, but
- 37:41it's like, oh, but as I look deeper into it, I'm like, Oh no,
- 37:43this is really important. And here's the question you have
- 37:46to ask yourself. So Daniel, you know, Dale 11 is
- 37:51is a classic is one of the classic passages about that.
- 37:55I'm going to, I'm going to go there.
- 37:58So it's been one of the most confusing passages for me.
- 38:02I, I, it's, you know, king of the North and king of the S,
- 38:04king of the north, king of the South.
- 38:06And he does this and he does that.
- 38:07Who's who's he, what, which one are they talking about?
- 38:09It's very confusing, right? Yeah.
- 38:13But in the midst of that and, and a lot of it is quick and
- 38:16brief, but scholars will tell you, will step you through
- 38:19history and show you that it's basically chronicling the six
- 38:23Syrian wars and that that was between within the Greek
- 38:27Kingdom. Well, why, what's the point?
- 38:29And, and some of them it's, it's sort of like he just does this
- 38:33king does that, then this king does that.
- 38:35What's the point? Well, he ultimately gets to gets
- 38:38to the climax of that passage, which is this, this detestable
- 38:43one. It's called a contemptible
- 38:45person in Daniel 1121 or a vile or despicable person.
- 38:50Different translations call them differently, right?
- 38:53But to whom royal majesty has not been given, which means he
- 38:57steals it. And that's exactly what
- 38:58Antiochus Epiphanes does. And so most most Christians do
- 39:03believe that this passage is a reference to Antiochus
- 39:05Epiphanes, even if they have all different prophetic scenarios in
- 39:10their minds. But it, it goes on extended
- 39:14several paragraphs that talks about how all this stuff I was
- 39:17telling you it, it, it depicts that right.
- 39:20And including the abomination of desolation and stopping the
- 39:23morning, evening, morning sacrifices and, and, and how the
- 39:29the Romans actually stopped him from trying to conquer Egypt.
- 39:33All that stuff is in there. So what's the point?
- 39:36Well, if you remember, and This is why, like this is one of the
- 39:42things that really made me most fascinated about the story.
- 39:46So if you understand Daniel, again, I know that it's
- 39:49different prophecy, beliefs and people have.
- 39:52But if you look at Daniel from the big picture, Daniel very
- 39:55clearly repeatedly has visions about four kingdoms, you know,
- 40:00that will rule over Israel. And Daniel, remember, is in the
- 40:05exile. And so the point is they go into
- 40:09Jews go into exile because. Of their idolatry of not
- 40:12worshipping Yahweh, etcetera. For those Jeremiah says for 70
- 40:16years, you know, so God comes and, and, and has them, many of
- 40:20them killed and taken into exile in the Babylon and destroys the
- 40:23temple in 586 BC. And this is a major judgement,
- 40:28right to, to have his temple destroyed.
- 40:30God is saying I'm going to destroy this temple through the
- 40:32Babylonians because of your disobedience.
- 40:34That's really significant, isn't it?
- 40:36Because if the temple is the incarnation of the covenant
- 40:40between his people, that's dead serious, right?
- 40:43So, but then Daniel comes along and he has, you know, we, we
- 40:47hear the, the vision of the statue with the four medals.
- 40:49We see the four beasts coming out of the sea.
- 40:52You have the goat in the ram. And all of them are talking
- 40:54about these 4 kingdoms that will now rule over Israel, right?
- 41:00Why? Well, who are the four kingdoms
- 41:03in the statue? You, you get them Babylon, which
- 41:05is Nebuchadnezzar, Medo, Persia, which begins with Darius and
- 41:10Cyrus, then the Greeks, which is Alexander the Great, and then
- 41:15ultimately Rome. And then it talks about how you
- 41:19know in Daniel 2 how the stone cut without hands.
- 41:21And who's that? Well, that's Jesus or that's the
- 41:23Kingdom of God. All these Greek, Greek, all
- 41:27these Gentile kingdoms are going to be ruling over Israel because
- 41:31of her disobedience. And even though God's going to
- 41:33bring her back from from the promised land and help her
- 41:36rebuild the temple, they're still, they're still not obeying
- 41:39him fully. And so God says I am going to
- 41:43you are going to be under this oppression for 490 years.
- 41:48Daniel 9 talks about this prophecy of the 70 sevens or the
- 41:5170 weeks of years, which is the prophecy that every Christian
- 41:55knows you know about the coming of Messiah was the most explicit
- 41:59direct prophecy of the Messiah exactly when he was going to
- 42:03come and he came exact that right that exact same time,
- 42:06right. So Daniel saying that Messiah
- 42:09will come to free us. But until then, for 400 years,
- 42:13you're going to be under the successive Gentile kingdoms of
- 42:17oppression, and they're defined as monsters and beasts and all
- 42:20this kind of stuff, right? So, so that's the repetitive
- 42:25nature. So when you get to the
- 42:26second-half of Daniel and you've got these these other
- 42:30prophecies, you realize he's simply expanding on the prior
- 42:34kingdoms that he talked about the Medes and the Persians and
- 42:37then the Greek Kingdom and ultimately the Roman Kingdom.
- 42:40And so this Daniel 11 is the focus on the Greek Kingdom.
- 42:45And the reason why there's an excessive focus on the Greek
- 42:48Kingdom, I think is because of this temple, this abomination of
- 42:52desolation, which would also become, you know, a, the term
- 42:57for what would happen after Jesus's day.
- 43:00And so, but because it's the, it's the desecration and
- 43:05desolation of God's temple that is so important spiritually.
- 43:09So you have to remember that, you know, history in the Bible
- 43:12is history related to God's people.
- 43:15So if they're talking about all these Gentile kingdoms, it's not
- 43:18just be arbitrary God's, I'm going to tell the future of, of
- 43:22the world. No, he's telling the future of
- 43:25kingdoms that are relevant to Jewish history because he's
- 43:29going to use them to chastise his people, right?
- 43:32And so that's why he, he, you know, goes through these various
- 43:35kings and what they're going to do.
- 43:36And then boom, he focuses on this Antiochus Epiphanes for
- 43:40like 2 or 3 paragraphs. And that's a climax before it
- 43:43becomes a turning point into the next Kingdom, which is Rome.
- 43:47And so all that stuff is so fascinating to me.
- 43:52And thus, you know, I have a character in my novel, his name
- 43:55is Eliezer. And he is based on a real
- 43:58character in the books of Maccabees who was a 90 year old
- 44:02scribe who was martyred. And they tell that his story in
- 44:06the books of the Maccabees. And I have him sort of as a, you
- 44:10know, as my, he's a scribes, right?
- 44:13So he knows the scriptures and he's the one who knows the books
- 44:15of Daniel. So he's the one who sort of
- 44:17educates us as they're going through, oh, yeah, this is what
- 44:20Daniel prophesied. This is what Daniel prophesied.
- 44:22This is what it means, you know, that kind of a thing.
- 44:23So it's a whatever a, a trope to be able to explain that how
- 44:30prophecy is fulfilled. And that was probably one of the
- 44:33most exciting things for me. It became I realized it was more
- 44:36connected to the Bible than I originally had thought, let's
- 44:38put it that way. I kind of took a bit of a
- 44:41journey there with you and there's a couple highlights that
- 44:43you were sharing where it's like you find treasure in the void
- 44:47and you're like, wow, this is kind of uncharted territory.
- 44:50It's like the great unknown, even being a little facetious
- 44:53there, but but in a nutshell, there's it's not beaten up
- 44:57territory within the realms of at least what I do and and hear
- 45:01about them. I'm sure that there's other
- 45:03nerds out there that have looked into it extensively.
- 45:06Sure, I say that politely, like. But same here, you know, Yeah,
- 45:10Evangelical. I'm, I, I'm basically in the
- 45:11evangelical crowd, you know, I have my, I have my tradition,
- 45:15but it's like, you know, yeah. And basic evangelicals don't
- 45:19really can. In fact, I think they're they're
- 45:21impoverished in terms of educationally.
- 45:24Yeah, but. Impoverished in these areas,
- 45:27right? But I don't want to be too
- 45:28general though, because there's a many, many Christians who, and
- 45:31Protestants and evangelicals who love this and, and they don't
- 45:35have a problem with it. But there are still a
- 45:37significant amount of them that I get responses from where it's
- 45:39like, that's not in the Bible, That's heresy, That's blasphemy.
- 45:42And they just, you know, it's so sad to me because they just
- 45:45don't, they're ignorant. They literally don't know what
- 45:48the word of God is actually telling them.
- 45:49And, and they're ignorant of this sort of like, if it's not
- 45:53in the Bible, it's not true, which is like ridiculous.
- 45:56If you just stop and think about that for a second, you know?
- 45:59So we're finding that even through, you know, the creative
- 46:02end of things, being able to present content like what you've
- 46:05done, it kind of covers that chasm a little bit.
- 46:07And it even helps reframe work on the framework of people,
- 46:12right? So you have people that they're
- 46:13not, you're not saying this is biblical and you have to come
- 46:16into agreement with this and this will be unrolled in your
- 46:19future seminary. No, this is eclectic or, or how
- 46:24would I even say this is unique, right?
- 46:26This is very cool what you've done here, but but it helps with
- 46:29the framework for people that are kind of looking for
- 46:32something more and they want to fill the void they don't want.
- 46:36I see exactly what's going on here.
- 46:38You know, you're writing and in talking about the fulfillment of
- 46:42Daniel's prophecy, but but this goes two ways right there, the
- 46:46past one and then the future one.
- 46:48And does this fall succinctly in with the idea of prophecy being
- 46:51circumvented, right. Like it's it's meant to happen
- 46:55throughout the ages until the final climax.
- 46:59That's a little bit messy, but what do you do with that, Brian?
- 47:01Yeah, well, to be fair that that's not it doesn't that issue
- 47:06is not a part of this novel. But I do know because of because
- 47:10of the term abomination desolation.
- 47:12I do know that it it it's connected to something that
- 47:15people are interested in. It's just beyond the novel,
- 47:20right. And so that's one of the reason
- 47:21why I wrote, you know, the companion book to go into a
- 47:24little bit more that. So I do explain my view on that.
- 47:28But the important thing is, is, is to realize first that
- 47:33Scripture, you know, there are different views about prophecy
- 47:36and, and how, how to look at that.
- 47:38And many people say, Oh yeah, you know, the, the abomination
- 47:40of desolation that Jesus says, you know, in, in Matthew 24,
- 47:45right? When you see the abomination of
- 47:47desolation fleet of the mountains, right?
- 47:51You know, what is that? Isn't that what?
- 47:54And what he said, what Daniel, when you see abomination of
- 47:56desolation that Daniel spoke of, right?
- 47:59And people say, well, oh, but if they look, go back and they see
- 48:02Daniel and they see that, Oh yeah.
- 48:04You know, the, the abomination of desolation applies to
- 48:06Antigen's epiphanes. Therefore, it's got multiple
- 48:11fulfillments or double fulfillments or repetitive
- 48:13fulfillments through history or something like that.
- 48:15And I don't think that's the case because I, I think there
- 48:19are literally 2 exact abominations that Daniel's
- 48:22talking about. And the reason why is, I mean,
- 48:24there's a couple of components to it.
- 48:26The the most obvious ones to me are the the the one that
- 48:31Antiochus Epiphany fulfills speaks very clearly in Daniel 8
- 48:40or Daniel 11 31. He will set up the abomination
- 48:45that makes desolate right? And then I'm sorry, go back to
- 48:49Daniel 8 talking about the same 1 Daniel 8 and he's called the
- 48:57little horn. Antioch's Epiphanes called this
- 48:59little horn that grows out of the four horns.
- 49:01Remember the you said the four Greek kingdoms that came out of
- 49:04Alexander. That's what the four horns are.
- 49:06And he's a little horn, meaning he's one of the horns out of the
- 49:11out of the Seleucids, which is one of the four, right?
- 49:14That's Antiochus Epiphanes. But in eight, 812, it says a
- 49:19host will be given over to this little horn who's Antigus with
- 49:23the regular burnt offering because of transgression.
- 49:26And I'm sorry, it says some of the hosts of the stars are
- 49:35thrown down, trampled by them. Oh, here, I'm sorry, verse 11
- 49:39the regular burnt offing offering was taken away from him
- 49:42and the place of his sanctuary was overthrown.
- 49:45So the sanctuary, which is the temple, right And the burnt
- 49:48offerings now in in Daniel, that's Daniel 8.
- 49:55And then Daniel 11 talks about this abomination of desolation
- 50:01again and it says there it is and he fights against the people
- 50:07of God, etcetera. But the abomination of
- 50:10desolation in Daniel 9, which is the classic Daniel 924 through
- 50:1727, I think, or something like that, talks about the one who
- 50:21comes on the wing of abominations and who makes
- 50:24desolate. So that's the same concept,
- 50:27right? But the idea here is that this
- 50:29one actually doesn't just make the temple desolate it he
- 50:34destroys the city and the temple.
- 50:37So in Daniel 926, it says the Prince was to come people the
- 50:43Prince was to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
- 50:47Antiochus did not destroy the city in the sanctuary, right?
- 50:51So this is a different abomination of desolation,
- 50:54completely different. And not only that, but the
- 50:56amount of days that it says it will be desolate is different.
- 51:00In Daniel 12, the the the future one that Jesus talks about,
- 51:06talks about the abomination, the regular burnt offering taken
- 51:10away in Daniel 1211 and the abomination of desolation.
- 51:15There shall be 1290 days, 12190 days.
- 51:19But in Daniel 8, it actually says like there's another time
- 51:27frame, like 20320330I can't find it right now.
- 51:32OK, I'll your Bible nerds you, you know where that pad where
- 51:34that is? Umm.
- 51:38They're they're flipping through the pages with us.
- 51:40Daniel 814, he said to me for 2300 evenings and mornings, the
- 51:45sanctuary shall be be restored to its rightful state.
- 51:48So two different time periods, 22 did one's desolation and one
- 51:53is destruction and desolation. So they're clearly two different
- 51:57ones. It's not a multiple fulfillment
- 51:59issue, right? And then I explain in my books,
- 52:02you know, why the multiple fulfillment theory can't work,
- 52:06but it's OK. You know what, whatever you,
- 52:08whatever you're thinking is fine.
- 52:10I, I agree that Jesus talks about and, and a a different
- 52:14abomination of desolation. Then the question becomes, well,
- 52:17when does that occur? Right?
- 52:18And that's where I become more controversial.
- 52:21And I suggest that the abomination of desolation Jesus
- 52:24talking about was Titus, the Roman emperor, Co emperor who
- 52:32destroys the temple and the city like Daniel 9 says in AD 70.
- 52:37And that he's brings the abomination desolation.
- 52:39The you know, the as the, the, the representative of Caesar at
- 52:46the time, he brought in the standards of Caesar to that
- 52:51temple. And those standards were
- 52:52idolatrous. They were images of Caesar who
- 52:55claimed to be a God. So, so that's what I argue for,
- 52:58which of course, you know, there'll be many Christians go
- 53:00no, what, no, that's still going to be in our future.
- 53:03And that's fine. You know, we could have those
- 53:05debates, but I at least explain how historically I believe that
- 53:10really was fulfilled. And that's like I say, that's
- 53:13goes beyond what the text is. I just do that for fun because
- 53:17because I know that it's it's a big issue and I like to
- 53:20sometimes delve into those big issues.
- 53:22Yeah. And I think you're doing it in a
- 53:24way that you're not trying to push the envelope and and sell
- 53:27it to you have to agree to every extent.
- 53:31And I think that's wise, right? Exactly.
- 53:33And you can appreciate this novel without having to believe
- 53:36in that, you know? Yeah.
- 53:38Well, so it's it could technically be a stand alone
- 53:42right in the series. How do you consider that?
- 53:45I mean where Where do you place it in?
- 53:47Well, here's the thing. Let's talk.
- 53:48About the flow of it, a little. Bit it could definitely be read
- 53:51as a stand alone novel. However, Chronicles of the
- 53:55Watchers is a series of books that is actually interwoven and
- 53:59integrated with Chronicles of the Nepheline, which is my
- 54:02previous eight book series that chronicles stories in the Bible
- 54:08about giants and watchers. Noah, primeval, Enoch,
- 54:12primordial Abraham, Allegiant, David ascended all the way up to
- 54:17Jesus triumphant. And I'm retelling with this
- 54:19supernatural paradigm of the watchers and the spiritual
- 54:23warfare, all that stuff like you've never seen it before.
- 54:26Again, all biblically consistent.
- 54:28But here's the thing. When I finished that series, I
- 54:30realized I have there's still more stories to tell and I kind
- 54:34of skipped over like I skipped over Moses.
- 54:36I don't know why I in, in Chronicles of Nephilim, I tell
- 54:39Joshua and Caleb's story because the giants in the land, right?
- 54:44But I realized there's a lot to tell about Moses in Egypt, about
- 54:47spiritual warfare. So I started Chronicles of the
- 54:50Watchers to sort of fill in the holes of Chronicles of the
- 54:53Nepheline. So technically, you know, if you
- 54:56go to my website, you can find like, what's the actual
- 54:58chronological order to read all the books?
- 55:00There is a, there is a connective tissue between them
- 55:04and it's this supernatural realm.
- 55:06You've got the same 6 guardian archangels throughout the whole
- 55:13series. You've got similar monsters.
- 55:16You've got the gods of the nations, these fallen angels.
- 55:21They are, you know, they're immortal beings.
- 55:23So they are they are consistent throughout the series.
- 55:26The Divine Council, right? And it's.
- 55:28It's. Absolutely.
- 55:29Phenomenal. Yeah.
- 55:30So there's that that sense of of of it.
- 55:32You can get more out of it if you do read the series, but if
- 55:35you're really interested in one of I've had people read David
- 55:38Ascendant first because they just love the David story and my
- 55:41David story is completely unlike anything you've read anywhere
- 55:44else, right? Yeah, I do have Goliath in
- 55:46there. I don't tell a story of
- 55:48Bathsheba that I end my story before that.
- 55:51I tell everything before that, but I tell the story of David.
- 55:55You know what people don't realize is that there are
- 55:57passages in Chronicles and Samuel the books of Chronicles
- 56:01and Samuels that talks about 5 different other giants who were
- 56:05hunting David trying to kill him in the.
- 56:08Bastion of Bob, right? Second statement 21.
- 56:11And he has a new sword, and he's seen it fit within himself to
- 56:15try to slay David, and almost does.
- 56:17Yes. Yes, this is my lingo.
- 56:19I'm I'm continually go back there.
- 56:21Sorry, I didn't mean to jump up y'all.
- 56:22That's what you got me excited. So that's what my story tells is
- 56:25I tell the story of those 5 giants who are actually
- 56:30warriors. They're part of a warrior cult
- 56:32called the Yalid Harafa. That's, that's translated in
- 56:37Bibles as descendants of the giants.
- 56:39So you'll see that yes, in some Bible verses, but it actually is
- 56:43not quite, that's not quite what it it's connected to giants, the
- 56:47criminal. Yeah, we're literally talking
- 56:48about their their specialty is warfare proven and they have
- 56:52reputations. Yeah, it's.
- 56:53So I, I, I create them as an assassin cult and they're going
- 56:57after David. And so I tell the story of those
- 57:00five attempted assassinations of him and how David mighty men
- 57:03kill them or, or what have you. So those are the kind of stories
- 57:07that that I'm telling. And, and people can jump in at
- 57:10any character of the Bible novel of the Bible that they love
- 57:13best. That's fine.
- 57:15But I think you will find that if you do that with that one
- 57:17book, you'll say, OK, I'm going to go back and start from book
- 57:211. Because if you love it that
- 57:23much, that's what most people do is they, they end up reading the
- 57:26whole series because once if, if you like it, if you're hooked,
- 57:30you, you want to read all of them.
- 57:32So start with Juda Maccabee. If this interests you, for sure,
- 57:35you, you're not going to miss out on anything.
- 57:37But then if you really like it, you'll go, OK, I'm going to go
- 57:39back to the beginning and start from there.
- 57:41How do we get this made into movies?
- 57:45To a series, I mean. You.
- 57:47Know, looking at what you've done over your career and then
- 57:51you know, through through the writing process and and just,
- 57:54you've sharpened on some of the greats out there, right Doctor
- 57:57Michael Heizer and just many others.
- 57:59And you're bringing this fresh perspective that really, I think
- 58:03brings the wild heart out of man.
- 58:05I think it, it's a it's a way to build excitement and to find
- 58:10climax and it speaks to even everyday life if for people that
- 58:14aren't living with their head in the sand.
- 58:17It's multi layered, you know, and there's a lot that goes into
- 58:20it. So do you see any future vision?
- 58:23Like can this be made into movies and.
- 58:25No if I could. Would anybody do justice?
- 58:28What needs? To happen here.
- 58:30Brian Well, I tell people basically that it's too biblical
- 58:33for Hollywood and it's too expensive and too imaginative,
- 58:39too creative for Christian producers because, you know,
- 58:43we're talking like the movies would.
- 58:45It would have to be over $100 million.
- 58:47And it's, you know, Christian movies can't raise that kind of
- 58:49money right now. You know they're getting better.
- 58:51Of course you know. I think there's a future for it.
- 58:54In my opinion. I think that we're in that
- 58:56trajectory where it's like the new bad boy to be a Christian.
- 58:59It's cool now. Six years ago it was like, get
- 59:02out of here with that. And now all of a sudden the
- 59:03craziest people have I've talked with over the year.
- 59:06It's just especially within the last year, it's cool now.
- 59:10So do you think that there could be a future with the right
- 59:13people, the right collaborations, the right
- 59:15funding? Do you think even we could take
- 59:18a swing at doing something? Well, I've often thought maybe
- 59:21as animation, like an anime series or something like that,
- 59:24because that would be a little bit more affordable, but and you
- 59:27could do the wild supernatural stuff a little bit easier maybe.
- 59:30Or even comics would you ever consider getting?
- 59:32Just Oh yeah, I would love to do that.
- 59:34But the problem is is, you know, most comic book artists do their
- 59:38own books because it takes like, you know, who knows, like 6
- 59:42months or more just to put out one comic.
- 59:44So they have to dedicate so much time and drawing that they want
- 59:48to, you know, they want to own the IP, the intellectual
- 59:51property. And I don't blame them, but I've
- 59:53tried to talk to them. But like most of them or, or
- 59:56they're gonna, they're gonna, they're gonna want to ask for a
- 59:58lot of money and all like $30,000 or whatever to, to draw
- 1:00:01it. And again, they're worth their
- 1:00:04money because it's a lot of work to illustrate graphic novels.
- 1:00:08It really is. And I know that because I've
- 1:00:09been an artist. For an AI does all my life
- 1:00:12justice to be honest with the UI yeah I mean they're they're
- 1:00:15getting better it's. Getting a lot better though.
- 1:00:17Yeah, I know it definitely is, but.
- 1:00:19Four years ago, it's significantly better.
- 1:00:21So I mean, that's something to consider too, but.
- 1:00:22Yeah. So I've all I've always been
- 1:00:24open to it, but it's not very likely because like I say, most
- 1:00:28artists are want to do their own thing.
- 1:00:31So unless you got the big money to pay for it, which I don't.
- 1:00:34But I have done one thing that with AI that's been really cool
- 1:00:39and that is I have cast all my novels characters.
- 1:00:43So if you go on my website for free, that's cool.
- 1:00:46You can pick any one of my books and go to a tab that says cast
- 1:00:50of characters. And I give images of almost all
- 1:00:54the characters in the novel done through AI professionally by a
- 1:00:58friend of mine, Cam Harless, who's brilliant at it.
- 1:01:02And we worked on this so that they would look like the way I
- 1:01:05want them to look, right? So it I could, I never came near
- 1:01:08that years ago, but AI allows us to really create some amazing
- 1:01:14pictures and a lot of people have found it very helpful for
- 1:01:17them as they're reading the book.
- 1:01:19So much so that I put them all together in a book too.
- 1:01:21If you want to have it in a hardcover book colored pictures
- 1:01:24as you read, you can. You can buy that on Amazon as
- 1:01:26well. Yeah, I think that speaks
- 1:01:29volumes, you know, having that there.
- 1:01:33There's such a lack Brian of the visual content that really
- 1:01:37follows closely, you know, with with the biblical narrative.
- 1:01:42And then on top of that, a movie wise, there's just such a
- 1:01:45deficit for good visual content like audio through the roof,
- 1:01:50Like it's it's been there all the way back since future quake
- 1:01:54till present day and everybody in between.
- 1:01:57Like we audio off the hook, right?
- 1:01:59Yeah. Do you want the video stuff,
- 1:02:01man? Like they're begging me to do
- 1:02:02video content even for the podcast.
- 1:02:04I'm like. I know, I know.
- 1:02:05It's an audio podcast. Like every five episodes I'll do
- 1:02:081 video. Yeah, but for some reason it's
- 1:02:11in, so you got to. Try to it freaks me out like
- 1:02:14people want people want video for podcasts.
- 1:02:17I I. They want to see my face in your
- 1:02:20it's. Weird, but it really it's true.
- 1:02:22It really is true. It is.
- 1:02:23You need to be doing the video, both video and audio for
- 1:02:26everybody. But but here's the thing about
- 1:02:28that. You know, I know that AAI and
- 1:02:34connected with special effects, right, It could be a way lot
- 1:02:39cheaper than it ever used to be, you know, and you could do this
- 1:02:42like they did 300 where it's like all green screen if you
- 1:02:45want, right, So that in that sense that's feasible, but it's
- 1:02:50still going to take a lot of money and I just don't know of
- 1:02:52anybody who would. The problem is too like
- 1:02:54Christians are, are a little Christians normal, like
- 1:03:00Christian producers and with people with money, They're, they
- 1:03:05don't tend to have the imagination and they don't get
- 1:03:07this theology to them. It's scary and frightful.
- 1:03:10It's like, wait a minute, that's not in the Bible.
- 1:03:12I don't understand that, you know, and quite frankly, that's,
- 1:03:15that's a big problem. They don't, the theology
- 1:03:18frightens them. It scares them because they're,
- 1:03:20it's not, they're not familiar with it and they only know the
- 1:03:23typical traditional Christian stuff, you know, and if they're
- 1:03:25going to make a movie, you know, they have to have a Christian or
- 1:03:28they have to have someone praying in a church with a
- 1:03:30pastor to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
- 1:03:33You know, they have to have these, these tropes in their in
- 1:03:36their movies, they think to make the.
- 1:03:38Christians starting to to break down a little bit like.
- 1:03:41It is. Yeah, it is.
- 1:03:42Sure. The denominational preferences
- 1:03:44that that go back to these founding roots of this strict
- 1:03:48kind of, you know, the old school imagery, it's slowly
- 1:03:51softening. Now it's only, we've only been
- 1:03:54I'd say in the last 10 years, I can see a dramatic increase and
- 1:03:57the last two years like just through through the roof, right.
- 1:04:02But it might take another 10 or 20 years to inculcate the
- 1:04:05population, the general consensus into a space where
- 1:04:09they want to actually know during their little, you know,
- 1:04:13Christmas story. That wasn't really a star or a
- 1:04:16plasma ball that was leading, you know, the wise men like, you
- 1:04:20know, twinkle, twinkle little star.
- 1:04:22How I wonder what you are like. When are people actually going
- 1:04:24to get through, you know, that facade or that that secular
- 1:04:27sacred divide and get to the heart of it.
- 1:04:31And, and I'm seeing that, but it's a, it's curbing closer to
- 1:04:36this divine council worldview and the reality that if it's
- 1:04:39strange, it's important all the greats have given these original
- 1:04:43quotes, right? But to but to be fair, I think
- 1:04:46that that OK to be balanced, I would say that the people with
- 1:04:50money and power are usually more conservative and traditional in,
- 1:04:54in the sense that they don't want to take risks and step out,
- 1:04:56you know, that kind of thing. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:58And, and those are the ones that I've dealt with in making movies
- 1:05:01and stuff like that. And, and I just know that I know
- 1:05:04that world, but to be fair and balanced, you know, the fringe
- 1:05:09world is, let's just call it fringe, the Nephilim and the
- 1:05:11Giants. You know, it's, it is a growing
- 1:05:17popular phenomenon. And, and I mean, I can say that
- 1:05:21because my books have been selling monstrously well.
- 1:05:25So I can't criticize, you know, all Christians generically,
- 1:05:31right? Because exactly many of them
- 1:05:33really do like this stuff. So you're right in that sense
- 1:05:36that there's an audience for it. The problem is, is it's not
- 1:05:39always this. It's hard to get the, the, the,
- 1:05:41the, the, the money people and, and that world, the business
- 1:05:45side of the world in on it because they're often 10 years
- 1:05:49behind the ball. Right.
- 1:05:50Yeah, yeah, you're so it's been but.
- 1:05:52You know, there is more. There's definitely a massive
- 1:05:54interest in my books, you know, so.
- 1:05:56Absolutely. Yeah.
- 1:05:58Well, let's kind of wind down a little bit.
- 1:05:59I'm going to ask you to, you know, just kind of do a recap.
- 1:06:03You know, if if you were to give your elevator pitch on, you
- 1:06:06know, the Chronicles of Watcher series and then and then this
- 1:06:09Judas Maccabee novels right here, Let's just tie any loose
- 1:06:13ends, give an overview, and then I want you to end it with a word
- 1:06:17of encouragement. OK, well, you know what, there's
- 1:06:20one thing that I, I didn't address that much, and I think
- 1:06:23it is kind of it wraps it up in a, in a way.
- 1:06:25And that is the spiritual warfare motif that that I draw
- 1:06:28from. Now, most people with spiritual
- 1:06:30warfare are familiar with, you know, in terms of fiction
- 1:06:32novels, they'll be, oh, Frank Peretti and, and, and some
- 1:06:35other, maybe some other novelists, Ted Decker or
- 1:06:37something, I don't know. But for sure Frank Peretti and
- 1:06:40that, and this is so much beyond that.
- 1:06:42This is a much bigger picture than than that sort of demons of
- 1:06:46lust and demons of, you know, gluttony and all this kind of
- 1:06:49stuff. The divine council is a much
- 1:06:52bigger picture than that. And in that sense, it's more
- 1:06:55epic. But one of the things that I
- 1:06:58bring into, you know, that I said is in in each of the
- 1:07:01stories is this spiritual warfare motif and these
- 1:07:04watchers. And of course, the Bible tells
- 1:07:06us a little bit about that, but not a lot.
- 1:07:09And so necessarily it's speculative.
- 1:07:12And my whole premise was if it's true that there are these
- 1:07:16principalities and powers over nations like the Bible says, and
- 1:07:20they've and they're fallen watchers right there because,
- 1:07:23you know, they're the gentile nations aren't worshipping
- 1:07:28Yahweh, right? And in Psalm 82 talks about
- 1:07:31these these principalities and how they're going to be punished
- 1:07:34because they don't rule justly. OK, So I told myself the whole
- 1:07:39at the very beginning of Chronicles of Nephilim years and
- 1:07:41decades ago, a decade ago, I said, OK, what if, you know, I
- 1:07:47said, all right, we've got these powers over Gentile nations.
- 1:07:52And I said the Bible says that. Not only that, but in
- 1:07:56Deuteronomy 3217, I think it is Moses says that the false gods
- 1:08:02of Canaan are demons. He says they, they worshipped,
- 1:08:06you know, Israelites came and worshipped the false gods who
- 1:08:10are not God but we're demons. And so that made me go, well,
- 1:08:14those are real entities. So I thought, what if the gods
- 1:08:17of the ancient world, Bale and Asherah in Canaan, Zeus and
- 1:08:23Apollo in Greece, Horus and RA in Egypt, what if they were
- 1:08:28actually demonic entities who are masquerading as these gods
- 1:08:32of the nation nations. And that's where they get these
- 1:08:34mythologies from, right? And they help craft the stories
- 1:08:37and, you know, the demonic influence.
- 1:08:39And so in a sense, those gods over the nations are actually
- 1:08:41these fallen watchers. And that was the creative.
- 1:08:44That's the thing that would scare many, some Christians,
- 1:08:47let's say. But I, you know, it was
- 1:08:50consistent with the Bible, though, you know, we don't
- 1:08:53really know what this looks like.
- 1:08:55And, and, and so it's necessarily somewhat
- 1:08:57speculative, but, but it's consistent with the Bible.
- 1:09:00And, and that's, that's what all these stories have.
- 1:09:03So in the Judah novel, for example, when I've got the Greek
- 1:09:07Kingdom of, of the Seleucids in northern Syria coming in and
- 1:09:13controlling that area, but they're kicked out of Macedonia
- 1:09:17by the Romans, right? So I have the gods, the watchers
- 1:09:21who are called Zeus and Hera and Apollo.
- 1:09:24Those are gods that now are in Israel because they're over the
- 1:09:29Seleucid Kingdom, right? They're the, the, the powers
- 1:09:31over that Kingdom. Down in Egypt, I have watchers
- 1:09:34who are named Horus and such, and they're these gods who are
- 1:09:38fallen watchers who are over the Egyptians.
- 1:09:41And so when when Antiochus brings his army down, there's a
- 1:09:45confrontation between the gods as well.
- 1:09:48And I have them facing off between each other.
- 1:09:50So if you see how that makes sense, where it's depicting the
- 1:09:53historical stuff, connecting it to what's going on spiritually,
- 1:09:57supernaturally. And so, and, and one other
- 1:10:01element is I like to try to bring in the, the Pagan
- 1:10:05mythology of these various gods. I like to bring them in and
- 1:10:10weave it into the storyline of the supernatural.
- 1:10:13What's going on in the supernatural.
- 1:10:15So you got Heracles and you know, in, in Greek myth, Hera is
- 1:10:20jealous of, of Zeus because he's a philanderer with both humans
- 1:10:26and gods and goddesses, right? And so in my story, it's the
- 1:10:31same things happening. Zeus is philandering around and
- 1:10:34Harrah's jealous of him and it causes her to try to undermine
- 1:10:36him, right? So I have these these various
- 1:10:39principalities and powers, and they're vying for power over
- 1:10:42each other. Because think about it, evil
- 1:10:45beings have a plan and they can work together.
- 1:10:48But if you look at the mafia, if you look at gangs, what do they
- 1:10:51do? They jockey for power within
- 1:10:53their gangs. They they'll take down 1A and
- 1:10:57another one will rise. And so I have the same scenario
- 1:11:01in the storylines of these watchers, these fallen angels
- 1:11:06and connect it to the ancient mythology as well.
- 1:11:08So when you read my stories, you're going to learn about the
- 1:11:11Pagan mythology and about history and about the Bible and,
- 1:11:14and how it all integrates and ultimately is in submission to
- 1:11:19Yahweh, the God of the scriptures.
- 1:11:21You know, and that's my goal. That's the that's my that's my
- 1:11:24imaginative goal. You know, I want to be
- 1:11:26imaginative and creative, but all all of all of Narnia is
- 1:11:31under the subjection of Aslan. If we love and use an analogy,
- 1:11:36right? Yeah.
- 1:11:37My goal is, is is that and, and people have responded to me,
- 1:11:42sent me a lot of emails that my goal is to excite you with a
- 1:11:46fresh vision of the scriptures, not something false, not
- 1:11:48something new. It's an ancient world view.
- 1:11:51By reading, I'm trying to help people to see and read the
- 1:11:56scriptures through the eyes of the ancient world, not our
- 1:11:58modern world. And by doing so it, it should
- 1:12:01give you an excitement and a hunger to go back and reread the
- 1:12:05the biblical text with this a new ancient context
- 1:12:08understanding. And that's my goal for doing it.
- 1:12:11And a lot of it's helped a lot of people do so.
- 1:12:13So hopefully it will do that. It turns you back to the Bible
- 1:12:16and gives you a fresh appreciation for it.
- 1:12:20That's what I hope it will do. It's done it for many people.

- 1:13:43All of my life I was beating up. All in my life I didn't handle.
- 1:13:48All in my life I was stuck in on track.
- 1:13:50All in my life I didn't handle. I didn't know why my life was so
- 1:13:54wet. I didn't know.
- 1:13:55So while my life was a wreck, I didn't even know why I couldn't
- 1:13:58get up. I was so stuck.
- 1:14:00And the monkey was stuck till I found out.
- 1:14:02And I broke everything till I fell down.
- 1:14:04And they took everything until I was hurting my heart.
- 1:14:07It was straight. Yeah, I was broke and I had all
- 1:14:10this pain held on home. It got harder than this hope.
- 1:14:13Then I went to the side of the smoke.
- 1:14:15I had no truth but to look to my God.
- 1:14:17He gave me stomach in my heart. He gave me.
- 1:14:20Earrings and he told me a blast. He told me he just believe in
- 1:14:23this time. I told him I can't change all of
- 1:14:25my ways. He said I got you just look at
- 1:14:28this. I looked at him and he showed me
- 1:14:30his ways. Then he just told me how I am
- 1:14:32this time. Then he just told me I'm not in
- 1:14:35this world. He told me I come from the end
- 1:14:37of the fall from a new creature. I come from the sun from the one
- 1:14:40and only straight from them and see really on me.
- 1:14:43I came from the sun I was really with them and heavenly places
- 1:14:46I'm ceiling. Y'all can't even go that way.
- 1:14:50Y'all don't even know that way. Y'all want to play like Patty
- 1:14:54cake but this ain't no game but it's that way.
- 1:14:58You wag this so fake when you walk up to me and I know you're
- 1:15:01a snake. You think you can be me but you
- 1:15:04got no problem. You want no way.
- 1:15:07I take out that trouble I'll put on your top and I'll break on
- 1:15:10your face. I see you laughing You think
- 1:15:13that you got me but you got no way.
- 1:15:16The evil you say for my life is OK because it's made for my
- 1:15:19good. My God is created.
- 1:15:22He created you so you really is cool.
- 1:15:25I said all these things because I know when it's true and you
- 1:15:27know you is good go like I'm in case you can never win.

- 1:15:35the head. You didn't say living your life
- 1:15:38because you know you can never go and get saved.
- 1:15:42You know when his crazy his mercy was took from you when
- 1:15:44you're my son in the plot. I thought you could take on my
- 1:15:47God spot now for you.
