January 22 - The God Who Hears the Humble · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, January 22nd.
• 0:11
Don't play the fool, you've probably heard someone say.
• 0:14
Don't be that guy. You know the type, the one who's
• 0:17
always stirring something up, twisting words, playing games,
• 0:20
and somehow thinking it's funny or harmless.
• 0:23
In real life, that kind of behavior might even get rewarded
• 0:26
for a while. People might laugh, follow, or
• 0:29
hype it up, but God sees past the act, and Proverbs chapter 6
• 0:33
doesn't sugarcoat it. Proverbs chapter 6, verses 12 to
• 0:37
15, describes a person who uses crooked speech, subtle signals,
• 0:41
and hidden intentions to stir up trouble.
• 0:44
This isn't someone who makes an honest mistake.
• 0:47
This is someone who lives with a divided heart, constantly sowing
• 0:50
discord and assuming there will be no consequences.
• 0:54
And then Scripture gives a warning.
• 0:55
Calamity comes suddenly, not slowly, not eventually suddenly.
• 1:00
Foolish living always catches up, even when it looks clever at
• 1:03
  1st. Psalm 10, verse 13 exposes the
• 1:06
mindset behind that kind of behavior.
• 1:09
It says, why does the wicked renounce God and say in his
• 1:12
heart, you will not call to account?
• 1:14
That's the lie at the center of foolishness, the belief that God
• 1:17
  doesn't see, doesn't care, or won't respond.
• 1:20
But silence from God is not the same as absence.
• 1:23
God is patient, but He is not blind.
• 1:26
He sees the motives behind the words, the intentions behind the
• 1:29
actions, and the pride hiding behind the performance.
• 1:33
Then Matthew chapter 19 flips the whole picture.
• 1:36
While the disciples try to push children away, Jesus does the
• 1:39
opposite. He says, let the little children
• 1:42
come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the
• 1:45
Kingdom of heaven. Children don't come with masks.
• 1:49
They don't come with schemes. They come honest, dependent, and
• 1:51
open. And Jesus says that's the
• 1:53
posture that belongs in God's Kingdom.
• 1:56
Here's the contrast. Foolishness says I can get away
• 1:59
with this. Wisdom says, God, I want to walk
• 2:01
close to you. Foolishness hides behind
• 2:04
  sarcasm, manipulation, and drama.
• 2:07
Wisdom chooses truth, humility, and peace, even when that path
• 2:10
doesn't get applause. God isn't impressed by how slick
• 2:13
you sound or how well you can play the game.
• 2:16
  He's drawn to a heart that's real.
• 2:18
In a world that celebrates being savage, shady, or self
• 2:21
protective, choosing wisdom can feel countercultural.
• 2:25
But staying close to Jesus requires honesty.
• 2:28
It requires humility. It requires refusing to stir
• 2:31
what God wants to heal. Don't play the fool by trading
• 2:34
character for attention. Walk in wisdom.
• 2:37
Walk in truth. Stay close to Jesus and let your
• 2:40
  life reflect Him. Let's pray.
• 2:43
Heavenly Father, search my heart and show me anything that pulls
• 2:46
me toward foolishness instead of wisdom.
• 2:48
Help me turn away from dishonesty, pride, and drama and
• 2:52
teach me to walk with a humble, honest heart.
• 2:55
I want the kind of faith that draws me closer to Jesus and
• 2:58
reflects Your love to others. Shape my words, my actions and
• 3:01
my motives so they honor You in Jesus name, Amen.
• 3:06

• 4:24
Bible reading plan. Proverbs Chapter 6 Verses 12 to
• 4:29
15 World English Bible A worthless person, a man of
• 4:34
iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth, who winks with
• 4:37
his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his
• 4:40
fingers, in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil
• 4:43
  continually, who always sows discord.
• 4:46
Therefore his calamity will come suddenly, he will be broken
• 4:49
  suddenly, and that without remedy.
• 4:51
Psalm Chapter 10 World English Bible Why do you stand far off
• 4:56
Yahweh? Why do you hide yourself in
• 4:58
times of trouble? In arrogance the wicked hunt
• 5:00
down the weak. They are caught in the schemes
• 5:03
that they devise, For the wicked boasts of his heart's cravings.
• 5:06
He blesses the greedy and condemns Yahweh.
• 5:09
The wicked in the pride of his face has no room in his thoughts
• 5:12
for God. His ways are prosperous at all
• 5:15
times. He is arrogant, and your laws
• 5:17
are far from His sight. As for all his adversaries, he
• 5:20
sneers at them. He says in his heart, I shall
• 5:23
not be shaken for generations. I shall have no trouble.
• 5:27
His mouth is full of cursing, deceit and oppression.
• 5:30
Under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.
• 5:33
He lies in wait near the villages from ambushes.
• 5:36
He murders the innocent. His eyes are secretly set
• 5:39
against the helpless. He lurks in secret as a lion in
• 5:42
his ambush. He lies in wait to catch the
• 5:45
helpless. He catches the helpless when he
• 5:47
draws him in his net. The helpless are crushed.
• 5:50
They collapse, They fall under his strength.
• 5:53
He says in his heart, God has forgotten.
• 5:55
He hides his face. He will never see it arise.
• 5:58
Yahweh, God, lift up your hand. Don't forget the helpless.
• 6:02
Why does the wicked person condemn God and say in his
• 6:04
heart, God won't call me into account, but you do see trouble
• 6:08
and grief, you consider it to take it into your hand.
• 6:11
You help the victim and the fatherless break the arm of the
• 6:14
wicked. As for the evil man, seek out
• 6:17
his wickedness until you find none.
• 6:19
Yahweh is king forever and ever the nations will perish out of
• 6:22
his land. Yahweh, you have heard the
• 6:24
desire of the humble. You will prepare their heart,
• 6:27
You will cause your ear to hear, to judge the fatherless and the
• 6:30
oppressed. That man who is of the earth may
• 6:33
terrify no more. Matthew Chapter 19 World English
• 6:36
Bible When Jesus had finished these words, he departed from
• 6:40
Galilee and came into the borders of Judea beyond the
• 6:43
  Jordan. Great multitudes followed him,
• 6:46
and he healed them there. Pharisees came to him, testing
• 6:49
him and saying, Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for
• 6:52
any reason? He answered, Haven't you read
• 6:55
that he who made them from the beginning made them male and
• 6:58
female, and said, For this cause a man shall leave his father and
• 7:02
mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall
• 7:05
become one flesh, so that they are no more 2 but one flesh.
• 7:09
What therefore God has joined together?
• 7:11
Don't let man tear apart. They asked him, Why then did
• 7:14
Moses command us to give her a certificate of divorce and
• 7:17
divorce her? He said to them, Moses, because
• 7:20
of the hardness of your hearts, allowed you to divorce your
• 7:23
wives, but from the beginning it has not been so.
• 7:26
I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual
• 7:29
immorality, and marries another, commits adultery, and he who
• 7:33
marries her when she is divorced commits adultery.
• 7:36
His disciples said to him, If this is the case of the man with
• 7:39
his wife, it is not expedient to Mary.
• 7:42
But he said to them, Not all men can receive this saying, but
• 7:45
those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who were
• 7:48
born that way from their mother's womb, and there are
• 7:50
eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who
• 7:54
made themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom.
• 7:55
Of heaven's sake, he who is able to receive it, let him receive
• 7:59
  it. Then little children were
• 8:01
brought to him, that he should lay his hands on them and pray.
• 8:04
And the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Allow the little
• 8:08
children, and don't forbid them to come to me, for the Kingdom
• 8:11
of heaven belongs to ones like these.
• 8:14
He laid his hands on them and departed from there.
• 8:16
Behold, one came to him and said, Good teacher, what good
• 8:20
thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?
• 8:22
He said to him, Why do you call me good?
• 8:25
No one is good but one. That is God.
• 8:27
But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.
• 8:30
He said to him, Which ones? Jesus said, You shall not
• 8:33
murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal,
• 8:36
you shall not offer false testimony.
• 8:39
Honor your Father and your mother, and you shall love your
• 8:41
neighbor as yourself. The young man said to him, All
• 8:44
these things I have observed from my youth, what do I still
• 8:47
lack? Jesus said to him, If you want
• 8:50
to be perfect, go sell what you have and give to the poor, and
• 8:53
you will have treasure in heaven, and come follow me.
• 8:56
But when the young man heard this, he went away sad, for he
• 8:59
was one who had great possessions.
• 9:01
Jesus said to his disciples, Most certainly, I say to you, a
• 9:05
rich man will enter into the Kingdom of heaven with
• 9:07
difficulty. Again, I tell you, it is easier
• 9:10
for a camel to go through a needle's eye than for a rich man
• 9:13
to enter into God's Kingdom. When the disciples heard it,
• 9:16
they were exceedingly astonished, saying, Who then can
• 9:19
be saved? Looking at them, Jesus said,
• 9:21
With men this is impossible, but with God all things are
• 9:24
possible. Then Peter answered, Behold, we
• 9:27
have left everything and followed you.
• 9:30
What then will we have? Jesus said to them?
• 9:32
Most certainly. I tell you that you who have
• 9:34
followed me in the regeneration, when the Son of Man will sit on
• 9:38
the throne of his glory, you also will sit on 12 Thrones
• 9:41
judging the 12 tribes of Israel. Everyone who has left houses or
• 9:45
brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or
• 9:49
lands, for my name's sake, will receive 100 times and will
• 9:53
inherit eternal life. But many will be last.
• 9:56
Who are first and first who are last?
