- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, let's hit Power Rankings. We'll mix it in throughout
- 0:06Speaker 1: the season. We are hours away at this point from
- 0:10Speaker 1: the start of the season. We'll do previous predictions, the
- 0:13Speaker 1: whole thing very soon on FT. But let's look at
- 0:16Speaker 1: the CBS list and actually, you know what, before we
- 0:19Speaker 1: do that, before we show it, please, I'm actually going
- 0:22Speaker 1: to see if I can get AJ's attention this way,
- 0:24Speaker 1: since he's not the biggest fan of power rankings. They
- 0:26Speaker 1: also did a tier within the article. Matt Snyder wrote
- 0:29Speaker 1: this article, and let me know if you like this tier, AJ.
- 0:32Speaker 1: He put favorites in its own category, one favorite right
- 0:36Speaker 1: which he said he would always do one favorite you
- 0:38Speaker 1: know who that is Dodgers. Then he has a next
- 0:42Speaker 1: tier of four strong contenders. This part I thought was
- 0:47Speaker 1: pretty controversial. He had the Yankees, the Blue Jays, the Mariners,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and the Cubs as strong contenders in their own tier.
- 0:55Speaker 1: And I'll just give you the next tier and then
- 0:57Speaker 1: we'll skip the rest. But he said, this next tier
- 0:59Speaker 1: is you need a few breaks, as in there a
- 1:02Speaker 1: little more flawed or have more questions than the team
- 1:06Speaker 1: list right above it Tigers, Mets, Braves, Phillies, Brewers, Astros,
- 1:09Speaker 1: Red Sox. I feel like the second and third tier
- 1:13Speaker 1: has some.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Question in it.
- 1:17Speaker 3: We can we show those I mean, the Dodgers are
- 1:19Speaker 3: going to be number one of my power rankings to Yer,
- 1:21Speaker 3: so you can just go ahead and put those there.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Right, Let's look at the power rankings that he put
- 1:24Speaker 1: together from one through thirty. So we'll show you the
- 1:27Speaker 1: top ten first that they're listing heading into the season.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And this can change from spring training. For example, they
- 1:34Speaker 1: drop the Braves down a couple slots with all of
- 1:36Speaker 1: the starting pitching injuries that are going on. So here
- 1:39Speaker 1: it is Dodgers one, Mariners two Blue Jay's three, Yankees four, Cubs,
- 1:45Speaker 1: five Tigers, six, Mets, seven, Braves, eight, Phillies nine, Red
- 1:50Speaker 1: Sox ten. There will be a lot of people freaking out.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Uh, Dodgers, fine, I'm just amazed, the Mariners, Blue Jay,
- 2:00Speaker 3: the Yankees, Tigers, before we gets the Mets or Phillies.
- 2:05Speaker 3: The National League has proven that it's been better the
- 2:07Speaker 3: last few years. So why is the Cubs five and
- 2:10Speaker 3: the Mets seven? Braves eight? I mean, how are the
- 2:13Speaker 3: Phillies behind the Braves? I mean the Braves with all
- 2:16Speaker 3: the injuries, Like, are we serious like this? This list
- 2:19Speaker 3: is I mean, it's his. Whoever did this, it's his list.
- 2:22Speaker 2: So, but the.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Phillies behind the Braves with what the Braves are going through,
- 2:26Speaker 3: not only on their starting pitching, for they have Chris
- 2:28Speaker 3: Sale and Rinaldo Lopez and then who we got there, right,
- 2:32Speaker 3: I mean Elder, I guess, but it's like, I don't know,
- 2:35Speaker 3: I don't know. This list is interesting to me, but
- 2:37Speaker 3: the Dodgers are right yep. How do you put the
- 2:40Speaker 3: Mirrors ahead of the Blue Jays and Yankees? The blue
- 2:43Speaker 3: Jay's beat the Marrors last year and it got better.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Everyone thinks the Yankees are getting cold back. I don't know,
- 2:47Speaker 3: I think, I think maybe, I don't know. It's an
- 2:50Speaker 3: interesting list, but he put his list together and that's
- 2:52Speaker 3: what he's doing.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Remember Ken said on Inside Scoop how Fangraft still has
- 2:58Speaker 1: the Braves slightly ahead of the Phillies.
- 3:00Speaker 2: You sure about that? Does anyone agree with that? Right now?
- 3:03Speaker 3: I mean Strider's out, trolling Box out, MS, Schwarver's out.
- 3:07Speaker 3: I mean, we don't know we're gonna get from Lopez.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Joey Wentz is out for touring acl I mean their
- 3:13Speaker 3: bullpen is better with the Glaciers and Suarez. But offensively,
- 3:17Speaker 3: what do they get because offensively some of those guys struggled.
- 3:20Speaker 3: So I don't know, it's interesting. I mean, I've been
- 3:23Speaker 3: a Brave fan forever, but there's a lot happening there.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Profars out obviously.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yep, profars out. Did you see Rinaldo Lopez last start?
- 3:32Speaker 1: How the velocity was like eighty five to ninety and
- 3:36Speaker 1: then they asked them about it only because it's this
- 3:39Speaker 1: late in the season and the same thing happened last year.
- 3:41Speaker 2: And then five seconds later the shoulder popped up when
- 3:47Speaker 2: that low. I mean, you know you've watched Rinaldo for years.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Hopefully he's healthy. Yeah, we don't know, though nobody talks
- 3:52Speaker 3: about it, so we don't know, right, But I think
- 3:56Speaker 3: WBC hide some of that stuff where it's like we
- 3:58Speaker 3: don't see it. Just brought up about de Grom, like
- 4:01Speaker 3: why is de Grom not the opening day starter? Not
- 4:03Speaker 3: that Evaldi's not, but like some of this stuff is
- 4:05Speaker 3: going to really start to come out in the new
- 4:08Speaker 3: news cycle once the season starts, Like if Rinaldo Lopez
- 4:11Speaker 3: shows up with shows up with eighty five to ninety
- 4:15Speaker 3: in a big league start, a hard time he'll do that.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Like I think too much velocity talk is it can
- 4:24Speaker 3: get in a way sometimes, especially a guy at the
- 4:26Speaker 3: end of spring training wants to make it to the
- 4:28Speaker 3: first start of the season healthy and then bang go
- 4:31Speaker 3: into the season.
- 4:32Speaker 4: But who knows, we'll see. I think the real debate
- 4:36Speaker 4: is are the Phillies better than the Mets in your
- 4:38Speaker 4: power ranking? And that to me, that's where the debate
- 4:40Speaker 4: should be. And he actually has the Braves above the Phillies,
- 4:43Speaker 4: So we kind of lose that debate with that.
- 4:47Speaker 1: What about the Brewers at eleven? We want to show
- 4:50Speaker 1: the middle eleven or the middle ten, I should say,
- 4:53Speaker 1: but it begins with Brewers at eleven. He has Astros twelve,
- 4:56Speaker 1: Royals thirteen, Orioles fourteen, As at fifteen, them up a
- 5:00Speaker 1: bunch of spots, Padres at sixteen, Rangers seventeen, the Giants
- 5:04Speaker 1: at eighteen. He has the race checking in at nineteen
- 5:07Speaker 1: and the Guardians at twenty.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I think the Brewers probably should be higher, but just
- 5:14Speaker 3: my opinion, I'm not going to write them off until
- 5:16Speaker 3: I see him. I mean, the rest of this list
- 5:20Speaker 3: is fine. This is kind of where you get into
- 5:21Speaker 3: the mishmash of anything can happen, So yeah, this middle
- 5:24Speaker 3: ten is fine. I think the Brewers may maybe switch
- 5:26Speaker 3: the Brewers and the Braves, but the Brewers in the
- 5:28Speaker 3: top ten until they're proven otherwise. But yeah, I mean
- 5:31Speaker 3: this is kind of a mishmash of stuff. And then
- 5:35Speaker 3: I mean the race. I mean they all need, all
- 5:37Speaker 3: these teams need something to go really right for them
- 5:39Speaker 3: to get into a postseason with a chance to win
- 5:43Speaker 3: a World Series. Surprising. I'm also kind of surprised the
- 5:46Speaker 3: Giants so that I thought they'd be twenty one twenty
- 5:49Speaker 3: because they didn't do anything early this offseason. I think
- 5:54Speaker 3: this middle tier here, they're all pretty much middle tier
- 5:58Speaker 3: teams because we did we did this last year, Like
- 6:01Speaker 3: who from the last tier? Would you be like, ooh,
- 6:03Speaker 3: they should be bumped up into this middle tier? And
- 6:06Speaker 3: I think the middle tier I think I really think
- 6:09Speaker 3: the Rangers are going to be better than the Astros.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Obviously I'm talking about it at this point the season.
- 6:13Speaker 3: I think the Padres are going to be better than
- 6:16Speaker 3: the Athletics. Now we can't really justify that because the
- 6:20Speaker 3: Padres are in the West. I think the Padres are
- 6:23Speaker 3: better than the Giants, so it's good that they're ahead
- 6:24Speaker 3: of them.
- 6:25Speaker 4: I think the Royals.
- 6:26Speaker 3: I think the Royals could be.
- 6:28Speaker 4: A top ten team just because or at least a
- 6:31Speaker 4: top twelve team because I think they're going to be
- 6:33Speaker 4: a playoff team. I am doing my power rankings, my predictions,
- 6:37Speaker 4: and I think rit today they might be a team
- 6:40Speaker 4: that makes the playoffs. I think they're going to make
- 6:42Speaker 4: some adjustment. So I think this group is all the same.
- 6:46Speaker 4: I think we can just like kind of mix them around,
- 6:49Speaker 4: and I think there's some things that I just I
- 6:52Speaker 4: have a hard time believing looking at this. I think
- 6:55Speaker 4: the Rangers should be above the Astros. They should be
- 6:58Speaker 4: moved down a little bit, The Royals should be above
- 7:00Speaker 4: the Rangers, and the Padres should be in front of
- 7:02Speaker 4: the Athletics.
- 7:03Speaker 3: So what does that look like.
- 7:04Speaker 4: It's a few number slots, but I think it's a
- 7:08Speaker 4: I think it's you know, on this list are the
- 7:10Speaker 4: teams that you're going to sit there and go which
- 7:13Speaker 4: of these teams are going to be out of the
- 7:14Speaker 4: playoffs and which of these teams.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Are going to be in?
- 7:16Speaker 4: And they're looking at that last spot.
- 7:20Speaker 5: Hey, it might be time to have a heart to
- 7:22Speaker 5: heart with your phone and be like I love you,
- 7:25Speaker 5: but you cost too much.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not paying this much anymore.
- 7:29Speaker 2: That's it.
- 7:30Speaker 4: I mean, why would I go more than fifteen dollars
- 7:33Speaker 4: a month. Mint mobile can give that to me and
- 7:36Speaker 4: I get.
- 7:36Speaker 1: All the same coverage exactly and you don't have to
- 7:39Speaker 1: deal with the crazy bogus fees or free perks that
- 7:42Speaker 1: actually end up costing more. Mint Mobile plans for premium
- 7:46Speaker 1: wireless start at just fifteen bucks a month, and all
- 7:50Speaker 1: plans come with high speed data and unlimited talk and
- 7:53Speaker 1: text delivered on the nation's largest five G network. If
- 7:56Speaker 1: you like your money, mint mobile is for you. Shot
- 7:59Speaker 1: plans at mintmobile dot com slash territory that's midmobile dot
- 8:03Speaker 1: com slash t E R R it O r Y.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Upfront payment of forty five dollars for three month five
- 8:09Speaker 1: gigabyte plan required equivalent to fifteen bucks a month. New
- 8:12Speaker 1: customer offer for first three month only, then full price
- 8:15Speaker 1: plan options available.
- 8:17Speaker 5: Taxes and fees extra. See mint mobile for details.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I try to look for themes too as we shift
- 8:25Speaker 1: to the bottom ten and see which fan bases might
- 8:28Speaker 1: be pissed that they weren't in the middle ten. They
- 8:31Speaker 1: don't love the National League Central the Reds lost Hunter
- 8:35Speaker 1: Green aj but they made the playoffs last year. Hunter
- 8:39Speaker 1: Green missed time last year. Putting them at twenty two,
- 8:41Speaker 1: I thought was a little harsh. Based on the talented
- 8:44Speaker 1: starting pitching that they have besides Hunter Green, the signing
- 8:47Speaker 1: of Gino Suarez, I think they're going to be in
- 8:50Speaker 1: the mix. He kind of smashed the Pirates too. I
- 8:52Speaker 1: actually took an excerpt from what he wrote there. He said,
- 8:55Speaker 1: injury prone Brandon Lowe, washed up Marcelazuna, and Ryano doesn't
- 9:01Speaker 1: move the needle a ton for me. So he still
- 9:03Speaker 1: doesn't like the Pirates. So anyway, it's Diamondbacks twenty one.
- 9:05Speaker 1: You put the Reds of twenty two, Pirates twenty three,
- 9:08Speaker 1: Marlins twenty four, Cardinals twenty five. Right, so you've got
- 9:10Speaker 1: three National League Central teams in the bottom ten here,
- 9:14Speaker 1: then Angels twenty six, Twins twenty seven, White Sox twenty eight,
- 9:17Speaker 1: and that's twenty nine thirty is Colorado, of course?
- 9:22Speaker 3: I mean, I think the Reds and Diamondbacks you can
- 9:24Speaker 3: make a case for moving higher. But who's spot aally
- 9:26Speaker 3: gonna take? The Guardians who won the division last year,
- 9:28Speaker 3: made the playoffs, and where are you gonna move teams.
- 9:32Speaker 3: The Pirates are the Pirates, Marlin's same car. I think
- 9:34Speaker 3: the Cardinals are maybe too high on this list because
- 9:37Speaker 3: they're not really trying this year. I mean I would
- 9:40Speaker 3: probably throw I would actually, I'm trying still trying to
- 9:42Speaker 3: figure out how the White Sox are below the Twins
- 9:44Speaker 3: on everything we would see.
- 9:45Speaker 2: So I mean, I don't I agree.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I think the White Sox should at least be in
- 9:50Speaker 3: front of the Twins with the moves the White Socks
- 9:52Speaker 3: are trying to make and doing things, and the prospects
- 9:55Speaker 3: they have coming. The Twins are the same team with
- 9:57Speaker 3: al Pablo Lopez. We don't know where Joe Ryan's at.
- 10:00Speaker 3: It's just I don't know. The Twins weren't very good
- 10:02Speaker 3: last year and they traded away a bunch of their guys.
- 10:05Speaker 3: So I mean, the National's Rockies whatever, you know, The
- 10:08Speaker 3: Angels are in about the right spot. I just don't
- 10:10Speaker 3: know how the White Socks are behind the Twins.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I keep saying that I agree the White Sox are
- 10:14Speaker 1: going in the upward direction. I think the Twins are
- 10:18Speaker 1: very clearly going in the other direction right now. But
- 10:21Speaker 1: if we look back aj at the middle list, so
- 10:24Speaker 1: the Rays are at nineteen, they're in there, and the
- 10:28Speaker 1: A's at fifteen. I know we expect the A's to
- 10:31Speaker 1: continue to improve.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I like their young core.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I think we all do, but they're all position players.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Do we think that the A's barely did anything with
- 10:39Speaker 1: their pitching? Do we think there's enough pitching that's going
- 10:41Speaker 1: to come through and make this a top fifteen team
- 10:44Speaker 1: in the league, Like if we're just matching up, let's,
- 10:47Speaker 1: for example, say the A's and the Reds.
- 10:52Speaker 3: They're counting on the offense.
- 10:53Speaker 2: For the A's, Yeah, they have some seventh spots.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Is the offense.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 10:59Speaker 3: This will move, this will move, it'll be it'll all
- 11:01Speaker 3: be different. I just think plus so many people do this.
- 11:04Speaker 3: They do it to get people talking. And so hey,
- 11:06Speaker 3: if we jumped the A's of a bunch of people
- 11:08Speaker 3: wonder why. And if we move the if we put
- 11:10Speaker 3: certain teams down in the bottom, people will wonder why.
- 11:12Speaker 3: So we're talking about it just like everyone else. So
- 11:13Speaker 3: we'll be talking about this this list, and that's what
- 11:15Speaker 3: they want.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Yeah, if you want to win, you got to have pitching.
- 11:20Speaker 4: And I think the teams that have pitching can be
- 11:23Speaker 4: moved on this list. I think that's why maybe the
- 11:26Speaker 4: Marlins are a little bit too low. They have They
- 11:28Speaker 4: clearly showed they know how to win last year in
- 11:31Speaker 4: a tough National League East so I think the Reds
- 11:35Speaker 4: are yes, hunter Green, the loss of Hunter Green is huge,
- 11:38Speaker 4: but they still have a really good rotation.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Young, some of them unproven.
- 11:46Speaker 4: But I think Lodolo took a little step last year
- 11:49Speaker 4: and I think you'll take the next step again this year.
- 11:51Speaker 4: I just think there's I think I think the groupings
- 11:54Speaker 4: are pretty close. I think you can mix and match
- 11:57Speaker 4: in those groupings, and then like the the eighteen to
- 12:01Speaker 4: twenty two, they're all pretty close. But it's really the
- 12:06Speaker 4: haves and the have nots.
- 12:09Speaker 2: How many teams do you think on this list have
- 12:11Speaker 2: a chance to win the World Series?
- 12:14Speaker 3: On the full list, I mean thirty teams have a chance,
- 12:16Speaker 3: but I would say.
- 12:20Speaker 6: Six.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Well, I know more than that. If you have the
- 12:25Speaker 3: Phillies at nine, they have a chance. Yeah, I mean,
- 12:27Speaker 3: if you stop the Mets have a chance, The Red
- 12:30Speaker 3: Sox have a chance because of their pitching. The Brewers
- 12:33Speaker 3: have a chance because they always seem to figure it out.
- 12:37Speaker 3: I mean yeah, I mean I think eleven, twelve, I mean,
- 12:42Speaker 3: if you get outside the top twelve, then you start
- 12:44Speaker 3: getting into it. I mean, the Orioles still if they're everything.
- 12:47Speaker 3: It's again, if everything works out, the Oriels have a chance.
- 12:51Speaker 3: The Rangers have a chance because you have de Grom
- 12:53Speaker 3: with all the in Mackenzie Gore and you have Skip
- 12:56Speaker 3: Schumacher has been great. I mean, there's a bunch of
- 12:58Speaker 3: teams have chances. But realistically, I mean there's only probably
- 13:02Speaker 3: seven or eight teams that can actually do it. But everyone,
- 13:05Speaker 3: I mean, a bunch of these teams have chances.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:07Speaker 1: They brought up in this article the twenty three Rangers,
- 13:10Speaker 1: which is only a few years ago, and Snyder in
- 13:13Speaker 1: the column said, I remember in spring training saying to
- 13:15Speaker 1: another writer, I don't think they will even make the playoffs,
- 13:18Speaker 1: but I could totally see the Rangers winning the World Series.
- 13:21Speaker 2: I really get that. That speaks to me.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Sometimes you look at a team and you're like, I
- 13:26Speaker 1: don't know if this team's gonna make it in but
- 13:28Speaker 1: if they do, and then you start looking at what
- 13:30Speaker 1: you always bring up, they're starting rotation. To me, that's
- 13:33Speaker 1: what stands out. Sometimes you look at a team and
- 13:35Speaker 1: you're like, eh, borderline. A lot of things have to
- 13:37Speaker 1: go right. But if they do one, two, and three
- 13:40Speaker 1: in their rotation makes a lot of sense. I think
- 13:44Speaker 1: this is where a team like the Brewers.
- 13:45Speaker 3: And if the Rangers figure out how to hit there
- 13:47Speaker 3: with their rotation, they could be really good.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Yeah, because things change in the playoffs and you don't
- 13:53Speaker 1: need as deep of a bullpen and you can have
- 13:55Speaker 1: right a little star power.
- 13:57Speaker 4: So but things change from you to you. We would
- 14:01Speaker 4: have never said that about the Rangers rotation. We were like,
- 14:04Speaker 4: oh my gosh, this lineup is going to be ridiculous.
- 14:08Speaker 4: They hammered, hammered, and they haven't made the playoffs the
- 14:10Speaker 4: last few years, the last two years, but their rotation
- 14:14Speaker 4: has started to get better. And look what they did
- 14:16Speaker 4: last year. They dominated their rotation dominated. We thought the
- 14:19Speaker 4: reds oh Man, look at all these young guys that
- 14:22Speaker 4: are coming up from the position player core, and all
- 14:25Speaker 4: of a sudden, they're starters, are the ones that are
- 14:29Speaker 4: kicking it. So it's like, we don't know exactly what
- 14:33Speaker 4: it's going to be. We think we have trends, we think, hey,
- 14:36Speaker 4: this is what should probably happen, and then you play
- 14:39Speaker 4: one hundred and sixty two games and we really find out.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and of course the trade deadline changes things. The
- 14:45Speaker 1: key acquisition for Texas back then was Jordan Montgomery and
- 14:49Speaker 1: you saw how valuable he was during that playoff run. Massive,
- 14:52Speaker 1: massive change once he entered the mix and the rotation
- 14:56Speaker 1: for them. All Right, we'll bear back on FT. Let's
- 15:00Speaker 1: bring in a veteran signing from the off season. Lad
- 15:03Speaker 1: to the show. Dustin May is ready to go. Uh uh, Dustin,
- 15:07Speaker 1: we got to do a little flip. Let's try and
- 15:09Speaker 1: flip sideways. Yeah, yeah, let's see perfect. Yeah, thanks for
- 15:17Speaker 1: joining us, Dustin. How you doing and how did camp
- 15:20Speaker 1: finish up? We're talking about some of the youngsters like
- 15:22Speaker 1: JJ Weatherhold learning that he made the team.
- 15:25Speaker 2: That's got to be cool for you to see. You
- 15:26Speaker 2: can remember that for you back in the day.
- 15:29Speaker 7: Yeah, absolutely, feeling great right now. Camp was Camp was solid.
- 15:34Speaker 7: Definitely my first camp in a while that I felt
- 15:36Speaker 7: good the whole spring training. So I definitely excited about that.
- 15:39Speaker 7: And yeah, it was very cool to be a part
- 15:42Speaker 7: of that, seeing JJ get told he was making the
- 15:45Speaker 7: team and everything.
- 15:45Speaker 6: So very excited for him. He's a great kid.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yeah, more on you.
- 15:52Speaker 4: Oh, just just talk just talked about you know, you
- 15:54Speaker 4: being in camp and like being healthy. How draining is
- 15:58Speaker 4: that through spring training? And then when it doesn't happen,
- 16:01Speaker 4: do you realize looking back, like, oh man, like that
- 16:04Speaker 4: was kind of draining on me.
- 16:06Speaker 6: Yeah, no, one hundred percent. It's it's definitely been. Uh,
- 16:10Speaker 6: it's definitely been.
- 16:10Speaker 7: A long five years of not being able to have
- 16:13Speaker 7: a fully good feeling spring training since basically COVID.
- 16:16Speaker 6: So it was definitely very.
- 16:20Speaker 7: Very big morale and like mental boost that I was
- 16:23Speaker 7: able to get through it fully clean and actually feel
- 16:25Speaker 7: good on the on the outside of it.
- 16:29Speaker 1: All Right, I'm gonna try to play director one more time.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Can you do two flips on your phone? Wait, cab,
- 16:34Speaker 1: go to his single so I can see if this
- 16:36Speaker 1: lines up the way we wanted to, right, Okay, hold
- 16:40Speaker 1: on one and then the other side too. I don't
- 16:47Speaker 1: know if that did anything. No, that's good. Okay, I'm
- 16:50Speaker 1: being told that's good. Never mind, just just the.
- 16:53Speaker 2: One flip that feels usually it's gone. I'm getting I
- 17:00Speaker 2: have direction. Just leave it. I've been told.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Okay, I'm trying to do too much, which which is
- 17:04Speaker 1: important to not do in spring training. I wanted to
- 17:07Speaker 1: ask you one more question about Weatherhold and just watching
- 17:11Speaker 1: you know, a team that's got a lot of young
- 17:12Speaker 1: guys in a young core that that's going to come
- 17:14Speaker 1: together here, how difficult is it for you to see
- 17:18Speaker 1: players thread the needle during spring training where you want
- 17:21Speaker 1: to get better, but then you want to see results.
- 17:23Speaker 1: And then for some guys and on on a team
- 17:26Speaker 1: like the Cardinals that has many young players and some
- 17:28Speaker 1: battles going on, you do have to put the results
- 17:31Speaker 1: up so that the team decides who's going to break
- 17:33Speaker 1: camp on the opening day roster.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:37Speaker 7: No, I definitely I've been on that side of things
- 17:39Speaker 7: where or it's not guaranteed and you got to earn
- 17:42Speaker 7: your spot.
- 17:42Speaker 6: But like you're also.
- 17:45Speaker 7: Working on things coming through spring training that you were
- 17:47Speaker 7: trying to put in a place in the offseason, and
- 17:49Speaker 7: like coming into spring training, like if it's not working,
- 17:52Speaker 7: like like do I stick with this?
- 17:54Speaker 2: Do I do?
- 17:54Speaker 6: I bang it? Do I try to revert back to
- 17:56Speaker 6: old ways?
- 17:57Speaker 2: And there were a lot of there were a lot of.
- 18:01Speaker 7: Hands in the pot on some kids, but I mean
- 18:03Speaker 7: I could see that a lot of guys were grinding
- 18:05Speaker 7: and there were there were definitely some good results for
- 18:08Speaker 7: some kids in sprint training.
- 18:09Speaker 3: For sureusin Forget Forget the results and isn't that what
- 18:13Speaker 3: it was? How did Ali tell JJ? Did he call
- 18:16Speaker 3: him into the office, did he do something cool like
- 18:18Speaker 3: Skip schoe Marker did, or he told the guy on
- 18:21Speaker 3: the mound that he made the team? What was Ali?
- 18:22Speaker 3: How did Ali tell JJ? And how did the rest
- 18:24Speaker 3: of the team find out?
- 18:26Speaker 6: I'm honestly not sure.
- 18:28Speaker 7: I was I was kind of in the clubhouse when
- 18:30Speaker 7: and he kind of came out and guys were like
- 18:33Speaker 7: telling him congrats.
- 18:34Speaker 6: So I'm not exactly for sure how how of it
- 18:36Speaker 6: went down.
- 18:37Speaker 3: I was hoping Ali would have big meeting in the clubhouse,
- 18:40Speaker 3: you know, because I keep saying, like, it's tired when
- 18:42Speaker 3: they call you into the office and they say, oh,
- 18:44Speaker 3: you made the team and they have to hidden camera
- 18:46Speaker 3: and the GM's there, like let's do something different, right,
- 18:48Speaker 3: Like let's come up with some cooler ideas. And I
- 18:50Speaker 3: thought Ali, I mean, John Jay has nothing to do
- 18:53Speaker 3: all day, so I thought he could come up with
- 18:54Speaker 3: a better idea.
- 18:56Speaker 7: No, I honestly I have no idea how how it
- 18:58Speaker 7: all went down. I was just I was just very
- 19:00Speaker 7: excited for him. I mean we could kind of see
- 19:03Speaker 7: the writing on the wall, but we were waiting for
- 19:05Speaker 7: the anauncement coming and we were all very very excited
- 19:10Speaker 7: for him.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Hey, if you hit the age where everything feels a
- 19:16Speaker 4: little bit more difficult the jim yes, but everything like
- 19:20Speaker 4: energy crashes in the afternoon.
- 19:24Speaker 1: You know, you might have been reading about low tee
- 19:27Speaker 1: and you see your doctor about it and they want
- 19:29Speaker 1: to give you basically shots every week for the rest
- 19:32Speaker 1: of your life.
- 19:33Speaker 5: Oh cool, that sounds fun.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And then you dig deeper and you realize what you're
- 19:36Speaker 1: signing up for, and it's three grand a year to
- 19:39Speaker 1: shut down your body's natural production forever.
- 19:41Speaker 2: That is brutal.
- 19:43Speaker 4: Mars Men gives you the same benefits of optimized testosterone energy, strength, focus,

- 19:54Speaker 4: instead of shutting it down for.

- 19:57Speaker 1: Our listeners get fifty percent off for it life, plus
- 20:00Speaker 1: free shipping and three free gifts that men go to

- 20:08Speaker 2: When you check out.
- 20:09Speaker 5: After you purchase, they're going to ask you where you
- 20:11Speaker 5: heard about them, Please support our show and tell them
- 20:13Speaker 5: we sent you.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Hey, Dustin, I want to go back to your free
- 20:18Speaker 1: agent process and tell me how you landed with the
- 20:21Speaker 1: Cardinals and you know what the conversations were like with
- 20:24Speaker 1: them versus other teams to help you make the decision process.
- 20:28Speaker 7: That really stuck out for me was the medical staff
- 20:32Speaker 7: here and the Cardinals, and they had all the hope,
- 20:35Speaker 7: or not all the hope, they had all the trust
- 20:37Speaker 7: and the thought of the ability that they would be
- 20:41Speaker 7: able to keep me healthy and like they would really
- 20:44Speaker 7: do whatever I needed and keep me on my regimen
- 20:46Speaker 7: to be able to get through the year fully healthy
- 20:48Speaker 7: and feel good coming out of it, like being stronger
- 20:55Speaker 7: and healthier throughout the year and not breaking down. So
- 20:57Speaker 7: they laid out some plans and stuff and what they
- 21:00Speaker 7: had done in the past, and it really just meshed
- 21:03Speaker 7: with kind of what I was going going through in
- 21:08Speaker 7: the last couple of years. And then also on the
- 21:10Speaker 7: on the pitching side, I felt like me and Dusty
- 21:12Speaker 7: kind of had a really good kind of bridge between
- 21:18Speaker 7: like what I wanted to work on in the off season,
- 21:20Speaker 7: like what he thought I needed to work on. So
- 21:21Speaker 7: I thought we were very like ying and yang with that,
- 21:24Speaker 7: like we kind of wanted the same thing, so I
- 21:25Speaker 7: felt like we were on the same page.
- 21:28Speaker 6: So that was a big contributor to UH.
- 21:31Speaker 7: For me, it was kind of getting my arm path
- 21:34Speaker 7: kind of back into like what it was pre my
- 21:36Speaker 7: second surgery and then kind of figuring out a change
- 21:42Speaker 7: up and then he was all for me bringing the
- 21:45Speaker 7: curveball back.
- 21:45Speaker 6: So I was really excited to hear that because.
- 21:48Speaker 7: It's been a conversation in the past, but it's kind
- 21:50Speaker 7: of always gotten shot down.
- 21:52Speaker 4: Why do you feel like it got shot down analytically?
- 21:55Speaker 4: Like it didn't results oriented, it didn't create what you
- 22:00Speaker 4: guys in the team was looking for.
- 22:03Speaker 7: I felt like it kind of just didn't match my
- 22:05Speaker 7: arm path back in the day. I felt like higher
- 22:08Speaker 7: high armslot but higher. I feel like it has allowed
- 22:12Speaker 7: me to be able to bring the curveball back into
- 22:14Speaker 7: the repertoire and I feel like it's going to play
- 22:15Speaker 7: pretty well because it's a bigger speech chane.
- 22:19Speaker 3: A lot of teams do. A lot of teams do
- 22:21Speaker 3: that because there's certain people that always say, Oh, I
- 22:23Speaker 3: want to throw this pitch more of that pitching more.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Do they allow you input on that and because you
- 22:26Speaker 3: said you seem to like your curveball, so the more
- 22:29Speaker 3: teams say hey, were there are certain teams to say, no,
- 22:31Speaker 3: we don't love that pitch. You can't throw it.
- 22:37Speaker 2: I don't.
- 22:37Speaker 7: I don't really think they were saying no. I think
- 22:39Speaker 7: it was more so just let's get to spring and
- 22:41Speaker 7: see how it goes. And honestly, that was kind of
- 22:42Speaker 7: what my thought process was with it. I was like,
- 22:45Speaker 7: I want to get to spring. I want to throw
- 22:46Speaker 7: it against some hitters. I want to kind of get
- 22:48Speaker 7: their viewpoints on it, and especially they are like live
- 22:51Speaker 7: it bees against some of our guys, Like I threw
- 22:53Speaker 7: a lot of them and they were like, no, it's
- 22:55Speaker 7: it's good, Like it's not popping and it's not like
- 22:58Speaker 7: coming out of a different look. So I definitely very
- 23:00Speaker 7: excited to hear that. And it's five or six miles
- 23:02Speaker 7: an hour slower than my slider, so I feel like
- 23:05Speaker 7: it's going to give a lot more depth to my
- 23:07Speaker 7: arsenal for sure. And adding the change up like back
- 23:10Speaker 7: to the to the group as well. I think adding
- 23:13Speaker 7: both of those is gonna allow for a lot more
- 23:17Speaker 7: question marks on what might come.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Well, now you're a true starter, you got like seventeen
- 23:22Speaker 3: pitches like every other starter a base Welcome to the
- 23:25Speaker 3: Welcome back to the starters world instead.
- 23:26Speaker 7: Of being I never believe not It's not just sinker
- 23:30Speaker 7: slider anymore. Like it was so definitely very excited to
- 23:33Speaker 7: see how it all pans out and works throughout the year.
- 23:37Speaker 3: You mentioned this was your first spring in a while healthy,
- 23:39Speaker 3: and I know you lost some weight because of the
- 23:41Speaker 3: incident you have, But what's your fighting weight? What's your
- 23:44Speaker 3: what's your fighting weight that you want to be at?
- 23:46Speaker 3: And are you at that right now? And can you
- 23:48Speaker 3: maintain that during the season.
- 23:51Speaker 8: I I feel like I'm close to it. Before my
- 23:56Speaker 8: before my surgery, when I lost on my weight out,
- 23:59Speaker 8: I was two. I'm at like two eighteen to two
- 24:03Speaker 8: twenty right now. So I feel like I'm at a
- 24:04Speaker 8: very comfortable spot. I feel really really strong, be able
- 24:08Speaker 8: to hold this weight pretty well.
- 24:09Speaker 7: Like I'm not having to like force feed myself to maintain.
- 24:13Speaker 7: So I feel like I'm in a really good spot
- 24:14Speaker 7: at the moment.
- 24:15Speaker 3: What is force feeding?
- 24:17Speaker 4: Because there's so many like high school baseball players who
- 24:19Speaker 4: are like, Bro, I'm on the games, Bro, are you
- 24:21Speaker 4: like a six raw eggs? Just slug it down kind
- 24:25Speaker 4: of guy, or do you got to eat chicken and rice?
- 24:30Speaker 6: I eat a lot of spaghetti.
- 24:32Speaker 7: Spaghetti is my go to so I feel like I
- 24:34Speaker 7: can and carbload and protein load of that. But yeah,
- 24:38Speaker 7: during the off season, there was definitely a lot of
- 24:40Speaker 7: a lot of pasta and a lot of a lot
- 24:42Speaker 7: of venison eating.
- 24:44Speaker 4: All right, So you could have been on Team Italy
- 24:46Speaker 4: for the WBC because if you had some pasta, you
- 24:48Speaker 4: could clearly be on Timm Team Italy. But what do
- 24:51Speaker 4: you what did you see about this?
- 24:52Speaker 6: I mean, say, sorry, I did hear you?
- 24:58Speaker 4: Oh no, I was just I was just saying about
- 24:59Speaker 4: the but this team the team. You don't know a
- 25:03Speaker 4: ton about a team until you get there. You sign
- 25:06Speaker 4: with the Cardinals. What are you impressed with that you
- 25:09Speaker 4: feel like could turn some heads this year in the
- 25:12Speaker 4: sense of you guys winning more games than I think
- 25:15Speaker 4: you guys are going to win, and a lot of
- 25:16Speaker 4: people think you guys are going to win.
- 25:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I think our pitching staff is very underestimated.
- 25:25Speaker 7: I think we have a lot of guys on the
- 25:26Speaker 7: staff that have some really good tools in their clock,
- 25:30Speaker 7: in their box, and I feel like they're going to
- 25:32Speaker 7: be able to come out and show it because they're
- 25:33Speaker 7: going to actually have the opportunity this year to go
- 25:36Speaker 7: and kind of have a runway. I feel like they're
- 25:40Speaker 7: going to give guys their chances this year, and I
- 25:42Speaker 7: feel like we have a lot of guys that are
- 25:44Speaker 7: ready to take that next step, especially on.
- 25:46Speaker 6: The pitching side. I feel like we have some really,
- 25:49Speaker 6: really talented young guys.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Hey, I've got one.
- 25:55Speaker 1: So obviously you were traded last year, but you spend
- 25:59Speaker 1: time with the Dodge, so we always like to point out, Hey,
- 26:01Speaker 1: there's a ring coming through. I was looking at the calendar.
- 26:05Speaker 1: You've got them at home at the beginning of May.
- 26:07Speaker 1: You've got them in LA in September. How does that work?
- 26:11Speaker 1: Have you talked to them? Do you get to do
- 26:14Speaker 1: it on the field? Is it just like a more
- 26:16Speaker 1: low key Hey, here's the ring. Have you guys figured
- 26:18Speaker 1: that part out yet?
- 26:20Speaker 7: I have not been reached out to you about that,
- 26:23Speaker 7: but I'm very excited to get I'm very excited to
- 26:25Speaker 7: see it, excited to see the guys again.
- 26:28Speaker 6: So yeah, looking forward to that.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Wait, hold up, what do you mean you don't know
- 26:32Speaker 3: where you're gonna be. Aren't you going to be in
- 26:33Speaker 3: Saint Louis. You just brought up the trade deadline at
- 26:36Speaker 3: that You're Saint Louis.
- 26:38Speaker 2: No, I mean, I don't know. Louis Cardinal.
- 26:41Speaker 3: They love everybody in Saint Louis.
- 26:43Speaker 2: No.
- 26:43Speaker 7: I would love to stay. I would absolutely love to stay.
- 26:45Speaker 7: I did not sign here to get traded. I did
- 26:48Speaker 7: not sign to look at that.
- 26:50Speaker 6: But I mean you can't. I mean, I've been through one.
- 26:54Speaker 6: It's hectic.
- 26:54Speaker 7: I found out literally three minutes before the deadline was
- 26:57Speaker 7: closed that I was getting traded.
- 26:58Speaker 6: So I don't know what that's going to look like.
- 27:01Speaker 7: And I don't want to get to that moment and
- 27:04Speaker 7: then oh, I'm not going to LA so you get
- 27:06Speaker 7: the mail of the ring ship to you. So I
- 27:08Speaker 7: don't want to have to go through that. So I
- 27:10Speaker 7: would like to at least get it when I when
- 27:12Speaker 7: I see the guys, that's fair.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Plus you get a plus, you get a great ovation
- 27:16Speaker 3: in Saint Louis. They'll cheer for you no matter what.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, well, and it's it's good for the young
- 27:22Speaker 1: guys to look at it too and be like, hey,
- 27:24Speaker 1: oh yeah.
- 27:25Speaker 7: I'd definitely like to have it in the clubhouse with
- 27:26Speaker 7: the guys to see because there's a lot of guys
- 27:28Speaker 7: in there that that that don't have one, so it'll
- 27:31Speaker 7: be it'll be cool to bring in for sure.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Can you go over the craziness that that went down
- 27:37Speaker 1: there for you last year where you mentioned it's like
- 27:40Speaker 1: minutes away and you're like, oh, cool, I'm moving now.
- 27:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:45Speaker 6: So we so we were in Tampa.
- 27:48Speaker 2: I had.
- 27:50Speaker 7: Me and me and Vessio were actually at a casino
- 27:53Speaker 7: and I get a call from from Goings and he
- 27:55Speaker 7: was like and this was literally, like I said, maybe
- 27:58Speaker 7: three or four minutes before the day line goes down,
- 28:00Speaker 7: because I had heard all the rumors and everything, and
- 28:03Speaker 7: I was talking with my agent about it and he
- 28:05Speaker 7: was like, dude, I'm seeing the same stuff you are.
- 28:07Speaker 6: I'm not hearing anything.
- 28:08Speaker 7: And then Gums called and he was like, hey, we're
- 28:11Speaker 7: trading to Boston and I was like all right, and
- 28:14Speaker 7: then the whirlwind kind of started and I was like, shoot,
- 28:17Speaker 7: I need to get back to the hotel and kind
- 28:18Speaker 7: of be available to be on the phone because I'm
- 28:22Speaker 7: sure I'm about to get a lot of phone calls.
- 28:23Speaker 7: And yeah, I got like twenty phone calls in the
- 28:25Speaker 7: span of like ten minutes. So definitely got bombarded right
- 28:29Speaker 7: after that. The trade deadline is not a fun process
- 28:32Speaker 7: for the fans or whoever wants to ask about it.
- 28:35Speaker 6: You're going into a whole new environment and whole new everything.
- 28:37Speaker 7: You're meeting all new people, all new players, and trying
- 28:42Speaker 7: to trying to get your feet settled, and it's it's
- 28:46Speaker 7: definitely a whirlwind of emotions because you're comfortable in one
- 28:51Speaker 7: spot and then you just kind of get shipped off
- 28:53Speaker 7: to another. So yeah, there's definitely a lot of things
- 28:57Speaker 7: that go into it, but it was definitely fun to
- 29:00Speaker 7: experience something different.
- 29:03Speaker 1: So I have one more on this that I think
- 29:05Speaker 1: adds another layer in addition to new team, new surroundings.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Got to figure out where you're living real quick, right
- 29:10Speaker 1: in the thick of a playoff race. To Usually, I
- 29:14Speaker 1: think most teams that are in the hunt think that
- 29:17Speaker 1: they have pitching whisperers where they'll be like, all right,
- 29:20Speaker 1: here comes a player, and we're going to tell them
- 29:22Speaker 1: all these things that we've been seeing and this is
- 29:24Speaker 1: why we traded for him. So I'm curious, and I'm
- 29:28Speaker 1: a little bit going off narrative and what I watched
- 29:30Speaker 1: last year. But you used the sweeper heavy I know
- 29:32Speaker 1: the Red Sox were really into the cutter. Can you
- 29:34Speaker 1: explain kind of like how that process goes on the
- 29:38Speaker 1: nitty gritty of the pitches, but then also how someone
- 29:40Speaker 1: like you was supposed to navigate that. You're coming from
- 29:42Speaker 1: another org, You're in the middle of the season, you're
- 29:44Speaker 1: going to hit free agency, and here comes a team
- 29:46Speaker 1: that traded for you saying we would like you to
- 29:48Speaker 1: do this instead. How do you navigate that and like
- 29:51Speaker 1: even disagree with them on certain parts if you want to.
- 29:55Speaker 2: No.
- 29:56Speaker 7: It was definitely cool to get over there and hear
- 29:58Speaker 7: some different minds about how much stuff would work. Because
- 30:01Speaker 7: I had definitely wanted to throw more cutters, more force teams,
- 30:05Speaker 7: but it just wasn't in kind of like the game
- 30:07Speaker 7: planing stuff during my time in LA at the.
- 30:09Speaker 6: End of the year.
- 30:12Speaker 7: So getting over there and they were just giving me
- 30:15Speaker 7: ideas and stuff. They were very open to hearing me
- 30:17Speaker 7: out and saying no, but definitely I wanted At that
- 30:20Speaker 7: point of the year, I really wasn't throwing that great,
- 30:22Speaker 7: so I was kind of up to doing anything, and
- 30:25Speaker 7: then my nerve thing happened in September, so I didn't
- 30:29Speaker 7: really get to finish the year out the way that
- 30:30Speaker 7: I would have liked to at least being healthy. So
- 30:33Speaker 7: definitely it definitely sucked on that end, but I feel
- 30:36Speaker 7: like the stuff that they were wanting me to add
- 30:38Speaker 7: in was definitely something that I wanted to do, so
- 30:40Speaker 7: I bought into it. I like it.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Well, thanks for the explanation, Thanks for joining us, DUS
