- 0:13Speaker 2: Something you should know.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Excited to have Graham Wrightson join us right now, and
- 0:19Speaker 1: we are going to talk about something that I think
- 0:21Speaker 1: is pretty cool, Sioux Falls Savoy Theater, and you're looking
- 0:25Speaker 1: for some additional people to help out, and practice starts
- 0:29Speaker 1: this Saturday, so there's still time, right?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yep. So we're putting on a performance of the McAdoo,
- 0:35Speaker 2: a Scottish play, usually the Mikado in Japan, but we
- 0:40Speaker 2: set it in Scotland. So you get to practice your
- 0:42Speaker 2: Scottish accent. But we're looking for anybody who's interested in
- 0:47Speaker 2: just being on stage. You don't have to have any experience.
- 0:52Speaker 2: All ages are welcome. We have a bunch of families,
- 0:55Speaker 2: so parents can act alongside their kids and so on.
- 0:58Speaker 2: And then it doesn't cost anything to join. It's all free.
- 1:01Speaker 2: So great experience.
- 1:03Speaker 1: And let's talk a little bit about the background here
- 1:06Speaker 1: of this whole project here, the Sioux Falls Savoy Theatre.
- 1:09Speaker 1: When did this start and how did this come about?
- 1:11Speaker 2: So I started it in 2023, I think. I wanted
- 1:18Speaker 2: a way, as my kids were getting older, to act
- 1:21Speaker 2: on stage with them. doing shows where we can act
- 1:25Speaker 2: together and you don't have the pressure of auditions for
- 1:28Speaker 2: young kids and all that different stuff. And as you
- 1:31Speaker 2: can tell, I'm British. So I grew up doing these
- 1:35Speaker 2: type of shows, Gilbert and Sullivan shows. Most famous version
- 1:38Speaker 2: is the Pirates of Penzance. So that was our first show.
- 1:43Speaker 2: and so we started it with our family and then
- 1:46Speaker 2: some other families joining in and we put on a
- 1:48Speaker 2: production of Pirates and then since then we've done a
- 1:52Speaker 2: few other shows so HMS Pinafore that's well known from
- 1:56Speaker 2: the Simpsons where Bart Simpson persuades Sideshow Bob to sing
- 2:00Speaker 2: the whole score to escape being on a being killed
- 2:04Speaker 2: or whatever it is and then this one we're doing
- 2:08Speaker 2: this year the Mikado is another famous one most famously
- 2:11Speaker 2: for the three little maids from school song. That is
- 2:15Speaker 2: the theme tune and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Whenever Larry David
- 2:18Speaker 2: does something funny, but that's the one end song. And
- 2:20Speaker 2: then there's a few others. So, um, the, these are
- 2:24Speaker 2: common musical done in, in Britain where I'm from. Um,
- 2:29Speaker 2: and they're great because they, they have catchy tunes that
- 2:33Speaker 2: lots of people know already. Um, but they teach you
- 2:36Speaker 2: how to sing, uh, and how to sing harmonies. And
- 2:38Speaker 2: then they're very fun. So the, the chorus, um, as
- 2:42Speaker 2: well as the lead actors get a lot of fun
- 2:45Speaker 2: things to sing and on stage a lot. Um, and
- 2:47Speaker 2: they're comedy. So, uh, it's always better to start acting
- 2:51Speaker 2: in comedies and work your way up to the serious shows. Um,
- 2:54Speaker 2: so it's, uh, it's good participation for, for everybody, new, young, old,
- 2:59Speaker 2: new or, um, experienced. We get our experienced actors to
- 3:03Speaker 2: play the lead roles and then, uh, uh, Kids and
- 3:07Speaker 2: newer folks are in the chorus building their experience and
- 3:11Speaker 2: learning how to sing and act and dance and so
- 3:13Speaker 2: on on stage together. No charge. Just once a week,
- 3:17Speaker 2: so it's not very time-consuming either.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And practice starts this Saturday, so if somebody is interested,
- 3:22Speaker 1: this would be a good week to connect and kind
- 3:25Speaker 1: of get plugged in and be a part of it
- 3:26Speaker 1: right from the start.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely. We are always welcome to anybody who joins us.
- 3:33Speaker 2: And in the chorus, You won't have to make every rehearsal.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It's just once a week on a Saturday. And we
- 3:40Speaker 2: rehearse from now through until April. And then we'll perform
- 3:44Speaker 2: for a few weekends in April and May. Definitely in
- 3:48Speaker 2: Sioux Falls and hopefully also in Brookings this year.
- 3:51Speaker 1: So....
- 3:53Speaker 2: It's a great opportunity to just experience theatre without the
- 3:57Speaker 2: pressures of auditions or paying a lot of money for
- 4:02Speaker 2: theatre camps and so on that I know a lot
- 4:04Speaker 2: of people do around here for their kids. But this
- 4:08Speaker 2: way you get to be on stage with your kids.
- 4:11Speaker 2: and enjoy the experience together as a family. That's what
- 4:14Speaker 2: we're built on, really.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I love that. SiouxFallsSavoy.com is the website, and I'm on
- 4:20Speaker 1: there right now. Where do the performances happen? So if
- 4:22Speaker 1: I'm a part of this, again, we'll talk about where
- 4:25Speaker 1: to go this Saturday for practice, but where do people
- 4:28Speaker 1: go to actually see these productions when they're done?
- 4:30Speaker 2: So our last few years have been in Old Town
- 4:34Speaker 2: Dinner Theater in Worthing. Nice. But this year, we're planning
- 4:40Speaker 2: on doing a show in Sioux Falls somewhere. I'm still
- 4:42Speaker 2: finalizing that. So hold this space. I'm sure I'll be
- 4:48Speaker 2: back on again in May 27 to talk about where
- 4:51Speaker 2: it's going to be. But hopefully it'll be one of
- 4:54Speaker 2: the churches in Sioux Falls. And we still hope to
- 4:56Speaker 2: do a show in Old Town Dinner Theatre. And then,
- 5:00Speaker 2: as I said, hopefully one in Brookings, maybe at SDSU
- 5:03Speaker 2: this time since three of our lead actors are students
- 5:06Speaker 2: at SDSU. And I'm a professor there. So it's trying
- 5:10Speaker 2: to expand our reach to other people and get more involved.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I think that's really, really cool. And you and I
- 5:17Speaker 1: met because we talked about another event you were doing
- 5:20Speaker 1: this summer. And it was so great to chat with
- 5:22Speaker 1: you and visit with you about that. And when I
- 5:24Speaker 1: found out you were involved in this, I said, we
- 5:26Speaker 1: got to connect. We got to talk about this because SiouxFallSavoy.com
- 5:30Speaker 1: is the website. But I hadn't heard about this. I
- 5:32Speaker 1: hadn't heard anything about it. So I'm really glad to
- 5:35Speaker 1: know that you're doing this. And I'm going to do
- 5:36Speaker 1: what I can to shine the light on it. And
- 5:38Speaker 1: I know there's some talented people listening right now. If
- 5:41Speaker 1: you would like to get involved and you're going, man,
- 5:43Speaker 1: I would love to get to meet some other people,
- 5:45Speaker 1: there are going to be people you'll get a chance
- 5:47Speaker 1: to meet. It doesn't cost you anything to go and
- 5:50Speaker 1: see if this is for you. And if you go
- 5:52Speaker 1: and you show up and you go, it's not for me, well,
- 5:53Speaker 1: at least you know. And this Saturday are the first practices.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Where do I go if I'm interested? Do I sign
- 6:00Speaker 1: up in advance or I just show up on Saturday?
- 6:02Speaker 2: You can email me. We have our Facebook page, Two
- 6:06Speaker 2: Fools to Voice. on Facebook should be able to find
- 6:09Speaker 2: us there. So that's where our most recent staff is.
- 6:12Speaker 2: We're in the process of switching websites right now. So
- 6:16Speaker 2: it's not as updated on those things, but you can
- 6:19Speaker 2: contact me. My email on Facebook is the easiest. And
- 6:27Speaker 2: practices take place in the downtown public library in Sioux
- 6:31Speaker 2: Falls from 9.45 until 12.00 every morning every Saturday morning
- 6:39Speaker 2: with a few exceptions but that's where we're going to
- 6:42Speaker 2: be most of the time so yeah you can just
- 6:45Speaker 2: come and show up if you're interested and join in
- 6:47Speaker 2: a rehearsal or you can contact me either through Facebook
- 6:52Speaker 2: or through my email which you have and you can
- 6:56Speaker 2: share so it's gwimboy at yahoo.com we and you can
- 7:03Speaker 2: let me know if you're interested you can't make it
- 7:05Speaker 2: this week you want to come in a different week
- 7:07Speaker 2: or you just need more information about the company or
- 7:09Speaker 2: the show or anything like that I'd be happy to
- 7:13Speaker 2: help anybody out or point you in the right direction
- 7:15Speaker 2: for whatever is needed.
- 7:17Speaker 1: And folks, if you struggle to find them, connect with
- 7:20Speaker 1: me and I will connect you with them because, again,
- 7:22Speaker 1: I think this is really neat. Graham, thank you for
- 7:24Speaker 1: putting your heart into this and thank you for taking
- 7:25Speaker 1: the time to chat with me about it today.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, you're welcome. Thank you. I appreciate the exposure. Yeah, yeah.
