- 0:04Speaker 1: It's so pretty.
- 0:10Speaker 2: It's so pretty all out here. I was like, I
- 0:12Speaker 2: want to come back and venture out more.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Oh, it's so much to do, too.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Yeah. And then, like, especially here. Like, in this little, like,
- 0:19Speaker 2: four-block radius, it's ridiculous. And I didn't even know the
- 0:21Speaker 2: Fox Theater was that close.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Fox Theater and all the teams play right next to
- 0:25Speaker 1: each other. The Red Wings, Tigers, Lions, they all play
- 0:28Speaker 1: right next door to here, so.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Are you born and raised?
- 0:31Speaker 1: Born and raised in Detroit.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Okay, right on, right on. And how long have you
- 0:34Speaker 2: been doing stand-up?
- 0:35Speaker 1: I've been doing stand-up for about 10 years now. 10? Yep.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Dope. Yeah. So what got you started?
- 0:42Speaker 1: So what got me started, this is actually full circle
- 0:44Speaker 1: because this is where I was first exposed to on-stage
- 0:48Speaker 1: entertainment comedy. A good friend of mine was a regular comedian.
- 0:52Speaker 1: cast member with Second City back in the day when
- 0:55Speaker 1: this was Second City. And she would perform weekly with
- 0:58Speaker 1: like Keegan-Michael Key and all those folks who are from here. Okay.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Doing great improv and sketch. And after seeing that, this
- 1:03Speaker 1: was like maybe 2005. And after seeing that, I was like, oh,
- 1:07Speaker 1: I love this. And so I started taking sketch writing
- 1:09Speaker 1: classes here. And with my classmates, we produced our very
- 1:13Speaker 1: first sketch show and cast our first show right here
- 1:15Speaker 1: on this stage. And then when I graduated Second City
- 1:20Speaker 1: in about 2009, In our graduation show, I asked my teacher,
- 1:24Speaker 1: I said, hey, I've been writing some jokes. Before the intermission,
- 1:28Speaker 1: can I just go out by myself and tell five
- 1:30Speaker 1: minutes of jokes? And she said yes. I didn't think
- 1:32Speaker 1: she would say yeah. And then I caught the bug.
- 1:34Speaker 1: People started laughing at something that I came up with
- 1:37Speaker 1: myself as opposed to getting laughs with groups on stage
- 1:40Speaker 1: when you do improv. So that was like 2009. And
- 1:45Speaker 1: then I just didn't do anything else for like five
- 1:47Speaker 1: years because Second City just closed in Michigan. It was
- 1:51Speaker 1: here no longer. And then I was just like, I
- 1:53Speaker 1: need to get back into it. So I went back
- 1:54Speaker 1: into improv again around 2014. And then around 15, 16,
- 1:59Speaker 1: I started doing a lot of open mics. And then
- 2:01Speaker 1: I started getting booked. And then I started becoming a
- 2:04Speaker 1: host and featuring. And now I headline. Uh-huh. So I
- 2:09Speaker 1: still do both. And I teach improv now too. So
- 2:12Speaker 1: I teach improv. I produce my own improv game show
- 2:15Speaker 1: that I created during the pandemic. Uh-huh. which played here
- 2:18Speaker 1: April 28th, this past April 28th, and it's coming back
- 2:21Speaker 1: September 9th. I created that, and it started as a
- 2:25Speaker 1: streaming show online because the world was shut down.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:28Speaker 1: And, yeah, so I just do all those things now.
- 2:30Speaker 1: So it's kind of like the best of both worlds,
- 2:32Speaker 1: improv and stand-up.
- 2:33Speaker 2: You know what's funny is, like, improv games are really fun.
- 2:37Speaker 1: They're the best.
- 2:37Speaker 2: They're so much fun. And it's funny because, like, I
- 2:40Speaker 2: know stand-up comedy and improv, they always, like, are, like,
- 2:42Speaker 2: Trying to verse each other for some reason.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 2:44Speaker 2: And it's like, I was talking with another comic, too,
- 2:47Speaker 2: that's from here, Patty.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Patty.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yeah, she's also, I guess, in improv, too. And it's like,
- 2:54Speaker 2: why wouldn't you want to use every tool available to
- 2:56Speaker 2: you in order to make a better comic? Because, like,
- 2:58Speaker 2: you know, you definitely, I feel like with the improv games,
- 3:02Speaker 2: it makes you so much sharper after a while. The
- 3:04Speaker 2: wit gets.
- 3:04Speaker 1: The wit, yes.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Gets sharper.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yes. And that helps comics because you might have to
- 3:09Speaker 1: deal with the heckler or you might have to deal
- 3:11Speaker 1: with the sound and lights going out. What are you
- 3:13Speaker 1: going to do to entertain the crowd in this darkness
- 3:15Speaker 1: without the mic working? One time that happened to me
- 3:17Speaker 1: when I did a show on a golf course, a
- 3:19Speaker 1: private show, and I started freestyle rapping with the audience
- 3:23Speaker 1: because we were waiting for the sound guy to get
- 3:26Speaker 1: things together. And I'm like, we have to do something fun.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So that's where improv comes in.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Definitely. And you said freestyle too, which is– that's why
- 3:34Speaker 2: I feel like both of those things, even in music,
- 3:39Speaker 2: when fools are freestyling, it's the same– the same part
- 3:42Speaker 2: i feel like the same part of your brain is
- 3:44Speaker 2: for funny yeah and that's why i feel like a
- 3:45Speaker 2: lot of like uh rappers and stuff like that are
- 3:48Speaker 2: like actually they're just funny people right if they would
- 3:51Speaker 2: just like especially like when they just like uh just
- 3:53Speaker 2: talk regularly like i'd like to hear more what this
- 3:55Speaker 2: bull has to say because it's just really.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Silly yeah i think most people if they're if they're
- 3:59Speaker 1: naturally quick-witted they're automatically funny yeah yeah that's true.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah then um And then you teach it too. How
- 4:07Speaker 2: many days do you teach?
- 4:09Speaker 1: So I teach, it's like a class term. So it's
- 4:12Speaker 1: like four Saturdays in a row there's a class. And
- 4:14Speaker 1: then the following Wednesday after that is the class performance
- 4:17Speaker 1: show where we sell tickets and everyone comes. Am I
- 4:20Speaker 1: able to mention another club that I teach at? So
- 4:22Speaker 1: Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle, that's where I teach it. So
- 4:24Speaker 1: I'm their improv producer and instructor.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So like the next class starts July 11th. So whoever
- 4:30Speaker 1: signs up, they will meet four Saturdays in a row
- 4:33Speaker 1: from like 10 in the morning to 12. Then the
- 4:35Speaker 1: very next Wednesday, I'm getting them prepared so that we
- 4:38Speaker 1: have a full audience and they're actually performing improv for
- 4:41Speaker 1: the first time.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and I also teach a rhyming and improv workshop too.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Because I love musical, we just talked about that, right?
- 4:48Speaker 1: So I love musical improv so much. And I work
- 4:51Speaker 1: with some of the best improvisers, because I'm a resident
- 4:53Speaker 1: improv performer, cast member at Go Comedy Improv Theater, which
- 4:57Speaker 1: is in Ferndale. And some of the best improvisers are
- 5:01Speaker 1: still scared of the thought of rhyming, or singing on
- 5:04Speaker 1: the spot, or even doing a poem. And so I
- 5:08Speaker 1: teach this workshop that teaches people to get out of
- 5:10Speaker 1: their head and teach them how to rhyme. And so
- 5:12Speaker 1: at the end of every class, by the time they're
- 5:14Speaker 1: done with my workshop, Everyone has gone upstage and done
- 5:16Speaker 1: some type of rhyme.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Yeah. And they was like, I can't believe I did this.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I'm like, see, it's really easy.
- 5:22Speaker 2: You know what else I looked to about? I was
- 5:23Speaker 2: saying that this is the names that people come up
- 5:26Speaker 2: for the troops.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Oh, the best. Can I tell you the best one
- 5:30Speaker 1: I've ever heard? Yeah, the best one. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 1: So there's a girl named Shivani. She used to perform here.
- 5:34Speaker 1: And then she and her family moved to Colorado. And
- 5:38Speaker 1: their troop is an all-women troop called Notorious VAG. That
- 5:42Speaker 1: is the best. I said, why did I think of that?
- 5:44Speaker 1: And the way my brain thinks, I think of a
- 5:46Speaker 1: lot of great group names too. And I hate when
- 5:49Speaker 1: I think of one and I Google it and it's
- 5:51Speaker 1: already used. So I came up of the idea of
- 5:54Speaker 1: one called Fun DMC, like Run DMC. Someone has that already. Oh, no.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Laffrican Americans. Someone has that already. A Troop Called Quest.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Someone has that already.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Because that's my favorite group, a Troop Called Quest. But
- 6:08Speaker 1: I'm in an all-female, it's three of us, black women,
- 6:12Speaker 1: And we're named, and still I improvise, which is a
- 6:16Speaker 1: play off Maya Angelou's And Still I Rise. Yeah. So
- 6:19Speaker 1: I looked that up first. I was like, no one
- 6:21Speaker 1: has this. Yes, this is our name. So, yeah, I
- 6:23Speaker 1: love coming up with creative names and stuff.
- 6:26Speaker 2: It's so funny because it's like, and especially like when
- 6:29Speaker 2: you have to hurry up and write it down.
- 6:30Speaker 1: You have to.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Because everyone is.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Make a logo and everything. Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Because it'll, for some reason, it could be such
- 6:35Speaker 2: a good idea. Mm-hmm. But if you do two more,
- 6:38Speaker 2: three things, and then come back to that, you're like, wait,
- 6:40Speaker 2: how would it go? How did it go? Yeah, yeah.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Or it's gone.
- 6:43Speaker 2: What was it?
- 6:43Speaker 1: Because there's only so many things you could come up with.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Like I said, the play on A Tribe Called Quest.
- 6:48Speaker 1: So there's only so many, if you wanted to name
- 6:50Speaker 1: your trooper after a rap group, there's only so many
- 6:52Speaker 1: that exist.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:53Speaker 1: So you're lucky if no, you know, if you wait
- 6:55Speaker 1: around too long, you're lucky if no one picked that
- 6:57Speaker 1: up yet.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Yeah. Or even if you're walking around town and you're like,
- 6:59Speaker 2: and you overhear a conversation or you overhear like two
- 7:02Speaker 2: words and put them together, like that's a great one.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Oh, that's a great one.
- 7:05Speaker 2: That's a good one. I got to write that down
- 7:06Speaker 2: because I'm going to forget that.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I like that too. Like that's one thing too that
- 7:11Speaker 2: I've learned too is being a comedian, like I have to,
- 7:15Speaker 2: But people are like, oh, you're a good writer. And
- 7:17Speaker 2: it's like, no, I'm not a good writer. I pretty
- 7:19Speaker 2: much write on stage a lot. I go, I'm just
- 7:21Speaker 2: a good jotter down in the moment of that thought
- 7:24Speaker 2: that I'm going to use.
- 7:25Speaker 1: That's how I am. Every joke I've ever come up with,
- 7:27Speaker 1: I was driving or I was in the showers. I
- 7:30Speaker 1: was doing dishes. I was like, oh, that would be fun.
- 7:32Speaker 1: That would be cool. I can't just meet with some
- 7:34Speaker 1: friends and say, okay, we're going to sit down and write.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Like, it doesn't happen like that.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Your process is more of, like, just a jot, and
- 7:43Speaker 2: then you're like, I'm going to work this out somehow.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I'll figure it out. Yeah, because of the wit thing.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I love that, too, because for me, someone had said
- 7:51Speaker 2: this one time, this was before I was doing comedy,
- 7:53Speaker 2: but they go, wit is the highest form of thinking,
- 7:56Speaker 2: because there's no thinking required. It's just an instinct. It's
- 7:59Speaker 2: just something that, it's really hard to teach, but it's
- 8:02Speaker 2: something that you can sharpen.
- 8:03Speaker 1: That's right.
- 8:04Speaker 2: And I was like, okay. And so I was like, yeah,
- 8:06Speaker 2: that's actually... I, I, I get that. I get that.
- 8:09Speaker 2: And so, um, that's why I did like improv too.
- 8:12Speaker 2: And people were like, uh, when I first got into standup, well,
- 8:14Speaker 2: I know actually my second time when I came back,
- 8:16Speaker 2: cause I started at 16 and I stopped at like 1920.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Okay.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Because I was like, I don't have anything else to
- 8:23Speaker 2: talk about.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Right. Right. I got you. Yep. Those life experiences.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Let me go live some life. So, and then I
- 8:27Speaker 2: was like, go and got arrested and went and fucking
- 8:30Speaker 2: like travel the world and shit like that and talk shit.
- 8:32Speaker 2: And then, um, but like, uh, I came back and
- 8:36Speaker 2: I was– I like stand-up. I like laughing. I like
- 8:39Speaker 2: making people laugh. So in any way to do that,
- 8:42Speaker 2: why wouldn't I try it or why wouldn't I go
- 8:44Speaker 2: for it? And so I did like sketch as well.
- 8:46Speaker 2: And people were like, why do you like sketch for us?
- 8:49Speaker 2: And I started realizing it's because, oh, you don't want
- 8:51Speaker 2: to share your shine. And I was like, I get that. But, like,
- 8:54Speaker 2: I mean, if you can do it– because I also, like,
- 8:57Speaker 2: later on in life you start to appreciate– the straight
- 9:00Speaker 2: man more than you'd appreciate.
- 9:02Speaker 1: The big, Oh yes, for sure.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:04Speaker 2: That some people are really good.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Those guys are usually the most gifted in the group.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Cause they, they, they let it play out. They let
- 9:11Speaker 2: it breathe. They're patient with it.
- 9:13Speaker 1: They are serious. Literally the main character is all on them.
- 9:17Speaker 2: And I, and I, and I, yeah, you start to
- 9:19Speaker 2: appreciate it more and more and more. And I'm like, okay,
- 9:20Speaker 2: I do like this. And yeah, definitely. I'm using all the, the,
- 9:25Speaker 2: the colors in order to make a better picture. That's
- 9:27Speaker 2: what I like about, using improv and stand-up and you
- 9:31Speaker 2: know like when you develop a character in improv like
- 9:34Speaker 2: who says you can't bring that character oh.
- 9:35Speaker 1: My goodness there's been many times where I just came
- 9:38Speaker 1: up with a voice and I'm like that's someone I
- 9:40Speaker 1: can do on stage yeah and it came from improv
- 9:43Speaker 1: so everyone knows a lot of sketch and stand-up comes
- 9:46Speaker 1: from improv this is where it starts our whole life
- 9:49Speaker 1: is improvised I grew up with a strict mom. So
- 9:52Speaker 1: I was improvising when I was younger because when she asked,
- 9:54Speaker 1: why is this a B on your report card and
- 9:56Speaker 1: not an A? I have to hurry up and think
- 9:57Speaker 1: of a reason. You know, that's improvising. Yeah.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Yeah, on the fly.
- 10:00Speaker 1: A lot of people don't realize that. Our whole life
- 10:02Speaker 1: is improvised.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Got to keep this ass safe. So I got to
- 10:05Speaker 2: figure it out. And on top of that, too, like,
- 10:08Speaker 2: you know, I'm raised in the 90s. So, like, I'm
- 10:13Speaker 2: a big fan of In Loving Color. So it's like,
- 10:16Speaker 2: that's comedy to me. And people are like, oh, that's sketch.
- 10:18Speaker 2: And I was like, nah, it's funny. It's great. Like,
- 10:21Speaker 2: these are stand-up comics that are doing this shit, too.
- 10:23Speaker 1: They don't think that's comedy when people don't think. But
- 10:26Speaker 1: sketch is, I thought comedy is something that makes you laugh.
- 10:29Speaker 1: So whether it's sketch, stand-up, song, whatever.
- 10:32Speaker 2: It's comedy. It used to always be like a.
- 10:35Speaker 1: That's funny how people.
- 10:36Speaker 2: They would always verse it, like, between each other. And
- 10:38Speaker 2: I was like, okay. And they're like, well, you're a comic,
- 10:40Speaker 2: so why are you, you know. I was like, well.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I'm just someone that's a fan of funny. And I
- 10:45Speaker 2: was like, so I don't care how whatever. Because also,
- 10:49Speaker 2: it's like a drug addict. I don't care how I
- 10:51Speaker 2: get high. I just need to get high.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I don't care where it's coming from.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I don't care.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Yeah. And then all those guys, too, that were on
- 11:00Speaker 2: that show were stand-up comics. They were great stand-up comics, too.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Because they used all the muscles and stuff like that
- 11:06Speaker 2: in order to bring stuff to life. And they're just
- 11:09Speaker 2: mad sick. Like, we were talking about it the other day, like,
- 11:13Speaker 2: some of the best sketches, and we were talking. One
- 11:15Speaker 2: of my favorites was, I can't remember the name of her,
- 11:18Speaker 2: but it was Kim Wayne's doing it, and she's always
- 11:20Speaker 2: sitting on the stoop.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Oh, don't talk about, no, don't talk about Miss Benita, something,
- 11:24Speaker 1: something about her neighbor. She was like, but girl, let
- 11:27Speaker 1: me tell you what happened.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Yes. Yeah, she was like, but you didn't hear that
- 11:30Speaker 2: from me.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Yeah, she'd be like, oh, there's such and such, and
- 11:33Speaker 2: she'd be all talking nice about it. She was like,
- 11:35Speaker 2: but her husband's in jail, but you didn't hear that
- 11:37Speaker 2: from me.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yes, and how could, Just like that right there. How
- 11:40Speaker 1: could someone not say that that's comedy?
- 11:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that show is so iconic. And I'm a huge
- 11:47Speaker 1: fan of all of the weigh-ins. I would love to
- 11:49Speaker 1: meet them, at least one of them one day. I've
- 11:53Speaker 1: been a really big fan of Marlon. I love him.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I love his physical comedy. I love physical comedy a lot.
- 12:00Speaker 1: And he's all over the stage.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I was lucky enough to be at my buddy. They
- 12:08Speaker 2: own the Ha Ha Comedy Club in North Hollywood. And
- 12:13Speaker 2: his Jack Isidore. He'll probably be here. He's on the
- 12:16Speaker 2: wall here, too. Really funny. And I got lucky enough
- 12:21Speaker 2: because I was there hanging out and I was just
- 12:22Speaker 2: doing my set. And Marlon comes in and he's working
- 12:25Speaker 2: on being Pryor. So he's like, yeah, that's when he
- 12:29Speaker 2: was like, got that, like, you were trying to be,
- 12:31Speaker 2: I think he like shot a little bit or shot
- 12:33Speaker 2: like a demo reel to try to like go for
- 12:37Speaker 2: that role. But yeah, no, it was, he was really cool,
- 12:40Speaker 2: really chill. And I was like, oh, cool, cool. Cause
- 12:42Speaker 2: you know, you meet comics.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Oh, I know.
- 12:43Speaker 2: And I was like, oh, I hope, I hope you're cool, man.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Cause I've been watching you.
- 12:46Speaker 1: And I try to, I follow like comics that I
- 12:49Speaker 1: really love. I listen to a lot of their interviews
- 12:51Speaker 1: and stuff. And a lot of times you're like, he's
- 12:53Speaker 1: so cool in this interview, but that might not be
- 12:55Speaker 1: the same when he's just chilling in himself. But yeah,
- 12:58Speaker 1: that's cool.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. So I was like, yeah. But all those guys,
- 13:01Speaker 2: like you said too, Marlon too, because they just came
- 13:03Speaker 2: out with the scary movie.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah, the new scary movie.
- 13:05Speaker 2: So I haven't seen it yet. I want to check
- 13:07Speaker 2: it out.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:07Speaker 2: But they're like, don't be a menace to South Central
- 13:11Speaker 2: while drinking your juice in the hood. Wait a minute.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Okay, I just got to say, the part where he
- 13:16Speaker 1: put the gun to the girl's head and was like,
- 13:18Speaker 1: give me your phone number.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. That shit is so– I like when he's
- 13:26Speaker 2: trying to figure out how to dress. He's like, should
- 13:28Speaker 2: I go with these ones? And he had, like, the
- 13:29Speaker 2: house slipper and then the Uzi.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wait, what about when Sean came by
- 13:34Speaker 1: and was like, I came to pick up my son.
- 13:36Speaker 1: And all he did was pick this son up and
- 13:37Speaker 1: then put him back down and left. Love it.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Such a good bit.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:42Speaker 2: But, yeah, no, and then– but I didn't get to
- 13:44Speaker 2: see– it's so funny because I didn't get to see
- 13:47Speaker 2: white chicks. Everyone's like, you got to check out white chicks.
- 13:49Speaker 2: And that was, like, the only one that I skipped. Okay.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Because– I think I started like– because you know once
- 13:53Speaker 2: you start getting into comedy, you don't really get to
- 13:57Speaker 2: do like the extra things anymore.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 14:01Speaker 2: I didn't get to watch TV. I realized like I
- 14:02Speaker 2: didn't know– I mean I didn't see the first like
- 14:05Speaker 2: four or five seasons of The Office. I didn't watch Lost.
- 14:08Speaker 2: I didn't watch any of those shows that came out
- 14:10Speaker 2: at that time when I started open micing it because
- 14:12Speaker 2: you're always out at the time.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Always out, yep, grinding, yep.
- 14:15Speaker 2: And I'm the age where we didn't have DVR available
- 14:18Speaker 2: like that, like they do now today, or YouTube or
- 14:20Speaker 2: any of that stuff. Yeah, so it was like, because
- 14:22Speaker 2: you could catch all that stuff now whenever. I used
- 14:25Speaker 2: to talk about, like, back in the day, if you
- 14:27Speaker 2: missed a show, you missed it. And if you're trying
- 14:30Speaker 2: to catch it in the summer on a rerun, I
- 14:31Speaker 2: dare you.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Yeah, but now you can see anything.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Whenever, just instantly.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Binge, yep.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and were you a big fan of film and
- 14:40Speaker 2: TV and stuff like that? Like, did you always want
- 14:41Speaker 2: an actress and stuff like that?
- 14:43Speaker 1: Did I want to be an actress? Yeah. Not really,
- 14:45Speaker 1: just improv, yes. But script, no. Like, memorizing lines, that's
- 14:50Speaker 1: just not me. I'm more off the top of my head,
- 14:53Speaker 1: and I enjoy that more, too.
- 14:54Speaker 2: You know what's funny? That is the same here.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:58Speaker 2: That's why I wanted, like, I went to a theater
- 15:00Speaker 2: class once, and I was like, It's so different. They
- 15:03Speaker 2: were like, you have to read the script because the
- 15:05Speaker 2: writer wrote that. Those words, that's what you had to say.
- 15:07Speaker 2: And I was like, but it could be so much better.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Like, if we could just put some more into this. So, yeah, no,
- 15:13Speaker 2: I totally get, like, the reading of it all is like,
- 15:15Speaker 2: I'm confined to this. And you don't want to be confined.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Not at all.
- 15:19Speaker 1: And not only do you have to remember the script,
- 15:21Speaker 1: you have to apply the emotion they want you to.
- 15:24Speaker 1: The director imagines you crying at this level. But in improv,
- 15:28Speaker 1: you can not cry at all if you don't want to.
- 15:31Speaker 1: And so that's why I like improv. Yeah. It's a
- 15:33Speaker 1: little bit more freeing.
- 15:34Speaker 2: That's why I, same here, same here. I just like
- 15:36Speaker 2: the standup because it's like, I'm my own stage manager
- 15:39Speaker 2: and prop manager and like, you know, the imagination that
- 15:42Speaker 2: creates like, uh, for me sometimes on the stage, like
- 15:45Speaker 2: I don't like, I might do a bit the same,
- 15:49Speaker 2: the same bit, but I did it like 12 different
- 15:52Speaker 2: ways each night because like, I want to keep falling
- 15:55Speaker 2: in love with it and I want to find out
- 15:56Speaker 2: where else it goes and, Then it's like, oh, I
- 15:59Speaker 2: think I was talking about this earlier, not too long ago.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Sometimes even the tone of it can change. And then
- 16:06Speaker 2: it opens up a whole other avenue of like, I
- 16:09Speaker 2: could play with this more now. Oh, I like this
- 16:11Speaker 2: toy again.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I learned that recently because when I play myself back
- 16:15Speaker 1: a lot, I cringe because in my head, I don't
- 16:18Speaker 1: sound this way. But when I play it back, I
- 16:19Speaker 1: can sound kind of whiny. And I've learned that when
- 16:23Speaker 1: I get on stage, just be more like, yeah, as
- 16:26Speaker 1: opposed to, eh. So that when I hit that punchline,
- 16:29Speaker 1: then I can go, hey, and then it blows that
- 16:31Speaker 1: up and it sparks more than me being here the
- 16:35Speaker 1: whole time. So it's just little things like that. And
- 16:37Speaker 1: I understand now when people say I was into a
- 16:40Speaker 1: conversation that Godfrey was having with someone because I follow him.
- 16:43Speaker 1: He's one of my favorite comics.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. And another good, another cool dude.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Oh, my God. So talented. And he was saying how
- 16:49Speaker 1: he once met Jerry Seinfeld. And Jerry said, yeah, so
- 16:53Speaker 1: how long you been doing this? And he said, nine years.
- 16:56Speaker 1: He said, he was like, yeah. And Jerry was like, yeah,
- 16:58Speaker 1: that means you're only nine years old in comedy. And
- 17:01Speaker 1: then it hit him like, wow, this is still early.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I still got a lot to learn. And I realize that, too.
- 17:05Speaker 1: A lot of us don't find our voice. A lot
- 17:07Speaker 1: of us don't really figure out, okay, I want to
- 17:09Speaker 1: be a dirty comic. A lot of us do not
- 17:11Speaker 1: figure that out until like 15 years later. So many
- 17:13Speaker 1: people think that by the second year, you got this.
- 17:15Speaker 1: It's not like that.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Not at all. And you definitely have to have a.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Uh, like, like you said that, uh, Oh, no worries. Um, no, no,
- 17:25Speaker 2: it's okay. Uh, the, uh, you were talking about like
- 17:29Speaker 2: the age category when you're, and it's funny because like, um, you,
- 17:35Speaker 2: you have to like get all the influences off of you,
- 17:39Speaker 2: you know? And it's like, it's, it's okay for you
- 17:42Speaker 2: to have the influences on you in year four or five,
- 17:45Speaker 2: but then by six and seven, you, it should start,
- 17:48Speaker 2: you know, I shouldn't be able to watch you and
- 17:50Speaker 2: tell exactly who I know your influences are.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 2: I mean, cause it's like by that time you should
- 17:54Speaker 2: be like, Oh, you've got the confidence to talk like
- 17:58Speaker 2: you and not emulate or influence, you know, the person
- 18:01Speaker 2: that you like. And it's like you, you develop, like
- 18:03Speaker 2: you said, your own voice or your own thought process
- 18:05Speaker 2: on it. And, um, Oh, by the speaking of influences,
- 18:08Speaker 2: who are your influences?
- 18:09Speaker 1: Oh my goodness. So Chris rock is the reason I
- 18:13Speaker 1: got like his specials. I used to quote, um, different
- 18:16Speaker 1: lines with my friends from his specials. His delivery, just
- 18:20Speaker 1: the way he looks at life, the way he... Everything
- 18:23Speaker 1: he said, I guess it was social commentary with his style,
- 18:27Speaker 1: because it's mostly just taking things that happen, things we've
- 18:29Speaker 1: all experienced, or seeing the news, and then he puts
- 18:32Speaker 1: his spin on it, and it's funny. But he does
- 18:35Speaker 1: it in a brilliant way. So I think between him
- 18:39Speaker 1: and D.L. Hughley, because I used to watch Comic View
- 18:42Speaker 1: every night when D.L. Hughley used to host it, and
- 18:44Speaker 1: he was just the funniest... Funniest thing ever. I knew
- 18:48Speaker 1: then that I loved comedy. But Chris Rock is the
- 18:51Speaker 1: person that I think is the reason why it's like,
- 18:53Speaker 1: I want to do that. I was always funny, like
- 18:56Speaker 1: in conversations around family, just growing up. People are like,
- 18:59Speaker 1: you're funny, Sam, you're funny. But if you would have
- 19:01Speaker 1: told me I would have been a comedian or did
- 19:03Speaker 1: this improv and stuff, all of that stuff happened because
- 19:06Speaker 1: I came to Second City and watched those folks on
- 19:07Speaker 1: that stage. And it opened my eyes. I was like,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I could do that stuff. And now it's crazy that
- 19:12Speaker 1: I teach it, I perform it, I produce it.
- 19:14Speaker 2: You're in it.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I just filmed my first comedy special with Open
- 19:17Speaker 1: Bar Comedy last summer. It's on YouTube.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:20Speaker 1: So if you would have told me I would be
- 19:21Speaker 1: doing any of these things, no way.
- 19:23Speaker 2: When does it come out? It came out last summer.
- 19:27Speaker 1: It's called It's About Tam Time.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Oh, that's hilarious.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Yeah, a 30-minute special with Open Bar Comedy. So unlike
- 19:33Speaker 1: Dry Bar Comedy with them, you can curse and be
- 19:35Speaker 1: dirty and stuff. So it's 30 minutes. Grace said it
- 19:38Speaker 1: was in Sarasota, Florida. Yeah, it was cool. I was
- 19:40Speaker 1: asked to do it. So yeah, I'm loving the journey.
- 19:43Speaker 2: It's just congratulations that's awesome thank you yeah the journey
- 19:45Speaker 2: is dope though it's like.
- 19:47Speaker 1: It is hitting those milestones are the best because i
- 19:49Speaker 1: know you mentioned hollywood and for the first time i
- 19:51Speaker 1: performed in um california last summer okay so i did
- 19:54Speaker 1: the belly room um in comedy store and i stood
- 19:58Speaker 1: in line i was number four in line and um
- 20:00Speaker 1: i just got off the plane went and got in
- 20:02Speaker 1: line i was just in time to be guaranteed a
- 20:04Speaker 1: spot for, um, the laugh factory.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Oh, the laugh factory. Okay.
- 20:09Speaker 1: And, um, and then I got on stage and the
- 20:12Speaker 1: manager was like, you were great. You were great. Yeah.
- 20:14Speaker 1: So yeah. Um, first impressions are, you know, is what's,
- 20:19Speaker 1: what's important. And I put a great first, first impression
- 20:21Speaker 1: on them. So I have to go back and do more.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Uh, when you did the belly room, um, how was that?
- 20:27Speaker 1: Was that, was that, that was the crack them up Thursdays.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:30Speaker 1: And, um, It was packed room. It was so much fun.
- 20:33Speaker 1: It was great. Um, a lot of Detroit comics have
- 20:35Speaker 1: moved to LA. So there was quite a few Detroit
- 20:37Speaker 1: comics that were like in the green room and hanging
- 20:39Speaker 1: out and supporting. So it was cool to see them
- 20:41Speaker 1: there too.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Oh, you were nervous at all?
- 20:43Speaker 1: No, not really.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Okay. Okay.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Not really. Um, I should have been, but I just wasn't.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I think because like my uncle was there and then like,
- 20:52Speaker 1: like I said, I was familiar with quite a few
- 20:54Speaker 1: people in there. So I was like, Oh yeah.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Just chill.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:57Speaker 2: That'll work. That'll work. Yeah. Yeah. And then, um, And
- 21:00Speaker 2: do you have any goals in comedy that you want
- 21:04Speaker 2: to hit, like a certain place or a room that
- 21:07Speaker 2: you want to go and get into?
- 21:12Speaker 1: Pretty much all the improvs. I've performed many times at
- 21:16Speaker 1: Toledo Funny Bone, for example. So my goal is to
- 21:19Speaker 1: get to the other funny bones, get to the improvs.
- 21:22Speaker 1: get to the stress factory. Like all of these that
- 21:24Speaker 1: my faves perform at.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I feel like if I'm performing, if I'm performing where
- 21:28Speaker 1: Aries Spears perform, then hey, then I know that I'm
- 21:32Speaker 1: really progressing.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Yeah. And it's sad too when an iconic comedy club
- 21:37Speaker 2: like shuts down.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:38Speaker 2: And you're like, i didn't get to do that stage
- 21:40Speaker 2: yeah because it like like carolines i never got to
- 21:42Speaker 2: do carolines i know yeah and that background is so
- 21:45Speaker 2: you know it's like oh i don't got a video
- 21:47Speaker 2: of me in that background that sucks.
- 21:49Speaker 1: It's gone it reminds me of concerts because i love
- 21:52Speaker 1: concerts and i'm always like i never got to see
- 21:54Speaker 1: rich james before he passed away yeah so you're like
- 21:57Speaker 1: oh man i missed that train so yeah.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I know i it's so funny because like you say
- 22:02Speaker 2: that because i'm always like um you know, what concert
- 22:06Speaker 2: would you see dead or alive, you know? And it's like, oh, man.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Because I'm a big fan of Jimi Hendrix. So I
- 22:13Speaker 2: was like, I'd love to see Jimi play and go
- 22:15Speaker 2: see that. Then I would go back in time and
- 22:17Speaker 2: go check that out. So yours would be Rick James
- 22:19Speaker 2: or who would you see?
- 22:20Speaker 1: Well, the only reason why is Rick James and really
- 22:22Speaker 1: no one else because I've seen almost everyone. I've been
- 22:25Speaker 1: to over 250 concerts in my life. Nice. I've seen
- 22:28Speaker 1: everyone from Jamiroquai to The Killers, Coldplay, Celine Dion, Michael
- 22:34Speaker 1: Jackson twice, Janet Jackson five times, Usher, Beyonce, like everyone. Really? Yeah,
- 22:40Speaker 1: just everyone. Wow. Yeah, I love, I love, love music.
- 22:44Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I love music. Music and comedy are my top two.
- 22:47Speaker 2: To catch a great.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Food's up there too. But yeah, I love, I was
- 22:51Speaker 1: blasting Earth, Wind & Fire on my way here. So
- 22:54Speaker 1: that's another group that even though they're not gone yet,
- 22:57Speaker 1: They're still here, but some people pass away and then
- 23:00Speaker 1: they replace them with members. So I regret not seeing
- 23:03Speaker 1: them with their original members. But they're still touring. They're
- 23:05Speaker 1: coming to Little Caesars Arena right next door July 1st
- 23:08Speaker 1: with Lionel Richie. That's going to be a good show.
- 23:11Speaker 1: I've never seen Lionel either.
- 23:12Speaker 2: You've never seen Lionel? Okay. I want to see, now
- 23:14Speaker 2: that you said that, I was like, shit, I want
- 23:15Speaker 2: to see After 7.
- 23:17Speaker 1: You want to see After 7? That's so random.
- 23:20Speaker 2: After 7? Because I think his son took over one
- 23:24Speaker 2: of the spots.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Do they still perform?
- 23:26Speaker 2: I don't think so, but I would have loved to
- 23:27Speaker 2: see that.
- 23:28Speaker 1: That is so funny. After seven.
- 23:31Speaker 2: You said about dying and replacing members, and I was like, oh,
- 23:33Speaker 2: because the sons.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Like the Temptations, you know they've been replaced many times.
- 23:37Speaker 1: I still see them when they perform.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Tony, Tony, Tony, one of them recently passed too, just recently.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Dwayne Wiggins. He kissed me on the cheek when I
- 23:44Speaker 1: was 16 years old.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Shut up.
- 23:46Speaker 1: I saw them at a club in North Carolina when
- 23:49Speaker 1: I was down there for my family reunion. And it
- 23:52Speaker 1: was a nightclub. And they were like, who wants to
- 23:54Speaker 1: come on stage? And they brought up like three girls.
- 23:55Speaker 1: And I was one of them. And Dwayne kissed me
- 23:57Speaker 1: on my cheek.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Oh, shit.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Yeah. And Rafael Sadiq, you know, he's no longer with them.
- 24:02Speaker 1: But I still see him when he comes. He's amazing.
- 24:05Speaker 1: And I never knew until recently. Okay.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I never knew until recently that he produced. He's behind
- 24:15Speaker 1: so many hits that we love, like people like Alicia
- 24:18Speaker 1: Keys and D'Angelo.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Like, I never knew that.
- 24:21Speaker 2: So many people.
- 24:22Speaker 1: So many.
- 24:22Speaker 2: He writes so much stuff.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Yeah, he's amazing.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Like, I was even a fan, too, like Lucy Pearl
- 24:27Speaker 2: when he was doing that group.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Lucy Pearl with Dawn from In Vogue.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Yeah. And what's his name from Tribe? Was it Fife
- 24:32Speaker 2: from Tribe? Or something? Wait, who else? Because it was three.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:35Speaker 2: I can't remember who else it was.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Fife, Alicia, Muhammad, and Q-Tip.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, yeah. That's who you're talking about? Yeah, but
- 24:43Speaker 2: who was in Lucy Pearl? There was three of them.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Oh, you're talking about Lucy Pearl. No. Yes.
- 24:48Speaker 2: It was.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I'm trying to think. Was Q-Tip in Lucy Pearl?
- 24:52Speaker 2: No, no. It wasn't Q-Tip. It was... And I'm trying
- 24:55Speaker 2: to think. Was it... Now I got to know. I
- 24:58Speaker 2: can't remember. And then.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Wait. Was Lucy Pearl Dawn? Raphael?
- 25:07Speaker 2: Raphael, Dawn, and who else? I should tell... Let's see.
- 25:13Speaker 1: When you said tribe, I thought you were thinking of
- 25:14Speaker 1: the members of tribe.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Because there's three of them in there. And I'm trying
- 25:18Speaker 2: to think who.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Can I zoom?
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. I don't know where.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Yep, that's him.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 25:27Speaker 1: That's the DJ for tribe.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Okay.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Because he DJed for Raphael when Raphael came.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Yes.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Okay, yeah.
- 25:33Speaker 2: So I knew one of the members of tribe was in.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I can remember. Yeah, I know.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Because Rafael, he used to own restaurants and stuff and
- 25:41Speaker 2: live in Sacramento, which is where I'm from. Okay. Because
- 25:43Speaker 2: he's originally from the Bay, but everyone migrates after a
- 25:46Speaker 2: while towards Sacramento and other areas. But no. So yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:49Speaker 2: I grew up on all that stuff, and I would
- 25:52Speaker 2: love to have seen them. You get to see everybody.
- 25:55Speaker 2: You got to see everyone.
- 25:55Speaker 1: That's awesome. Everyone. Even back in the day, I saw
- 25:58Speaker 1: MC Hammer, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Salt-N-Pepa, Biz Markie. Yes.
- 26:03Speaker 1: All I did was go to concerts.
- 26:04Speaker 2: You know what's great, too, is when you catch them
- 26:08Speaker 2: at intimate off-night ones that people do. There was this
- 26:14Speaker 2: place called Boardwalk over where I grew up at. It's
- 26:18Speaker 2: just a small venue. Sometimes they would just do a
- 26:21Speaker 2: drop-in set because they were heading on to the base.
- 26:23Speaker 2: They were like, let's just get a little tune-up set.
- 26:26Speaker 2: It's so dope to catch a nice intimate setting or
- 26:29Speaker 2: an acoustic setting sometimes.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Oh, man. Remember MTV Unplugged? Yeah. I've seen Maxwell and
- 26:36Speaker 1: Jill Scott, people like that in smaller intimate clubs when
- 26:39Speaker 1: they first started out, like St. Andrew's Hall here downtown.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I know at some point you get popular and you
- 26:46Speaker 1: get big and you have to go to these arenas,
- 26:48Speaker 1: but it's not the same because I remember the roots
- 26:50Speaker 1: before anyone, I won't say anyone knew who they were,
- 26:52Speaker 1: but they were not mainstream. A lot of us hip
- 26:55Speaker 1: hop heads, we knew who they were and we were
- 26:57Speaker 1: going to their small shows and to hear Questlove play
- 27:00Speaker 1: with the drums loud in your ear in this small space,
- 27:04Speaker 1: it sounds so much better than the bigger venues. But
- 27:07Speaker 1: it makes sense that, you know, they're on Jamie Fallon
- 27:10Speaker 1: and they're doing collabs with people like Erykah Badu and
- 27:13Speaker 1: things like that. Now they've blown up over the years. So,
- 27:16Speaker 1: of course, they're going to be at bigger places. But
- 27:18Speaker 1: I wish, just like with Dave Chappelle, he came a
- 27:23Speaker 1: few years in a row, it seems like, around COVID,
- 27:25Speaker 1: I remember, because I even went to that show that
- 27:26Speaker 1: he did where he was, like, really drunk and high.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Did you hear about that one? I was there. It
- 27:31Speaker 1: was like he said he did Weed in the Back
- 27:33Speaker 1: with Danny Brown. And so when he came out, he
- 27:36Speaker 1: was just really high. It made the news. It went national.
- 27:40Speaker 1: He even talked about it on his special. But I
- 27:42Speaker 1: was at that show. But my point is, he did
- 27:45Speaker 1: those three shows consecutively when he came to Detroit. Next
- 27:49Speaker 1: door at the Fillmore, which is smaller. But now he's
- 27:53Speaker 1: going to be here in a couple weeks at Little
- 27:56Speaker 1: Caesars Arena, which is huge. So it's like the jokes
- 28:00Speaker 1: are still going to be great, but I just, I like,
- 28:02Speaker 1: I would like to see him in the smaller. Yeah.
- 28:05Speaker 2: It's so funny that you said that because the Chappelle,
- 28:07Speaker 2: I remember, but I do remember when he was here
- 28:09Speaker 2: and then he like walked off stage because, uh, that
- 28:13Speaker 2: had to be the one. There was one where he
- 28:14Speaker 2: was like, they kept, this was like right when the
- 28:16Speaker 2: Chappelle show was blowing up and everyone was like, Rick James, bitch. And, and,
- 28:20Speaker 2: and that was long before he got pissed off and
- 28:22Speaker 2: he walked off the stage. Yeah. Cause they wouldn't let
- 28:24Speaker 2: him finish the jokes. And then they started bullying him.
- 28:27Speaker 2: I didn't hear about that. It was a long time ago.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I was going to say, come full circle, you were
- 28:35Speaker 2: talking about Questlove. I think I've seen that he's going
- 28:38Speaker 2: to be doing a documentary on Earth, Wind, and Fire.
- 28:41Speaker 1: He is. I saw that. I was scrolling and I
- 28:43Speaker 1: saw that.
- 28:43Speaker 2: I was like, oh, interesting. I was like, okay. That's
- 28:46Speaker 2: going to be cool to catch and stuff like that.
- 28:51Speaker 2: I'm sorry. We should get to trivia.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Oh, my goodness. We were talking a long time. Were
- 28:55Speaker 1: you like this with everyone else?
- 28:56Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, some, some.
- 29:00Speaker 1: See, I'm just passionate about everything. I could talk forever
- 29:02Speaker 1: about this.
- 29:03Speaker 2: That's what I love though. That's what I'm saying here.
- 29:05Speaker 2: So it's like, it's so good to talk to someone
- 29:06Speaker 2: that like wants to conversate.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Yes.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Um, but here we, uh, um, the, I'll just give you,
- 29:14Speaker 2: it's just, just the silly stuff.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Oh, hilarious.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Okay. Um, uh, what is, uh, so the first question is, um, what,
- 29:24Speaker 2: does the SWV stand for in the R & B group?
- 29:28Speaker 1: Sisters with Voices.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Yes.
- 29:30Speaker 1: If I were in the group, I'd change it to
- 29:32Speaker 1: Sisters with Vodka, but it's.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Sisters with Voices. A, Sisters with Vodka. That's an improv troupe.
- 29:38Speaker 1: There you go. That's a good one.
- 29:40Speaker 2: That's actually, you know, yeah, that's funny. We should try, like,
- 29:43Speaker 2: for those ones. Okay. Oh, it's so funny that it's music,
- 29:46Speaker 2: and it's got first two, actually three are all going
- 29:49Speaker 2: to be music. Whitney Houston went to the top of
- 29:52Speaker 2: the charts with this 1992 song that was Dolly Parton's originally.
- 29:57Speaker 1: I will always love you.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Yes.
- 29:58Speaker 1: I thought you were going to ask me hard stuff
- 29:59Speaker 1: like American history. No, no, no.
- 30:02Speaker 2: It's just all over the place. Okay. It says, wait, wait,
- 30:08Speaker 2: Detroit's Motown too, right?
- 30:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Oh, great. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was like, wait, hold on. Motown.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Before embarking on a solo career, Beyonce was part of
- 30:17Speaker 2: what R & B group?
- 30:18Speaker 1: Destiny's Child.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Boom.
- 30:19Speaker 1: If I was in a group, I'd call it Destiny's
- 30:21Speaker 1: Child Support. If I was in a troupe. Another true.
- 30:28Speaker 2: What is a California state's animal?
- 30:31Speaker 1: Oh, my God. I don't know that. California. Yeah. I
- 30:38Speaker 1: don't know.
- 30:39Speaker 2: It's a bear. California bears.
- 30:40Speaker 1: I would have never.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Grizzly bear. That's okay. That's okay. How often are the
- 30:46Speaker 2: Summer Olympics held?
- 30:48Speaker 1: Every four years.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Boom.
- 30:49Speaker 1: There you go. you're trying to be tricky because you
- 30:53Speaker 1: said specifically summer like it's going to be a different
- 30:55Speaker 1: answer for winter you know what I mean because isn't
- 30:58Speaker 1: every four years no matter what so I felt like
- 31:01Speaker 1: you guys tried to make that tricky.
- 31:04Speaker 2: The Hollywood sign originally spelled out what word.
- 31:11Speaker 1: The Hollywood sign originally spelled out what.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Word yeah some of it burned down and now it
- 31:17Speaker 2: just says Hollywood but it used to say more it
- 31:19Speaker 2: used to say more But it was one big word.
- 31:23Speaker 1: It was one big word and included the word Hollywood?
- 31:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:27Speaker 1: But it was all one word with no spaces, no hyphen?
- 31:31Speaker 2: Nope. Yeah, just one big long word. What?
- 31:39Speaker 1: Hollywood life? I have no idea. Really?
- 31:42Speaker 2: Hollywood land.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Oh, wow. I didn't know that.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. They burned down in a fire that they
- 31:47Speaker 2: had and then they just left it like that.
- 31:50Speaker 1: I bet so many people don't know that. I've never
- 31:52Speaker 1: heard that in my life.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Okay, so number seven is this actor is notably starred
- 31:58Speaker 2: in TV sitcoms How I Met Your Mother and Doogie Howser.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Oh my goodness. Those three letter, those three word guys
- 32:06Speaker 1: get me every time. Neil Patrick Harris?
- 32:09Speaker 2: Boom, you got it.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Awesome, awesome.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Okay, so Okay, so number eight. Actor Jim Carrey first
- 32:17Speaker 2: made his name... Yeah, what show was.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:21Speaker 2: We just got to talk about it. Okay, cool. Okay,
- 32:25Speaker 2: number nine. Okay, here's a curveball. What do you call
- 32:30Speaker 2: a group of porcupines?
- 32:33Speaker 1: Is this like a brain teaser joke or a real thing?
- 32:36Speaker 2: It's a real thing, yeah. I thought this was... Go ahead,
- 32:40Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 32:43Speaker 1: A quill peck? It's just a guess.
- 32:45Speaker 2: No, but that's a great guess.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Okay.
- 32:47Speaker 2: It is a prickle of porcupines.
- 32:50Speaker 1: That sounds like a good troop name, too.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that is great. Okay, so last question.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Okay.
- 32:57Speaker 2: And you've got what?
- 32:59Speaker 1: Maybe five?
- 33:00Speaker 2: You only missed two.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Okay. And it's ten total?
- 33:03Speaker 2: Yeah, so you're at number nine. Wait, no, three. So
- 33:07Speaker 2: you have six points. actually. Six points.
- 33:10Speaker 1: And what do we win? This Rice Krispie treat right here? Yeah,
- 33:12Speaker 1: you win. Okay, I'll take that.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Anything out of the snack bag. So if you want
- 33:18Speaker 2: to wager any points, you have six. You can wager
- 33:21Speaker 2: as many as you want or none.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Two.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Two. Okay, you can wager two. Okay, so which number
- 33:26Speaker 2: does every Major League Baseball player wear on April 15th?
- 33:31Speaker 1: Okay, I got to say this. I'm not going to
- 33:33Speaker 1: get it right.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Okay.
- 33:34Speaker 1: I know nothing about sports. In fact, when I performed
- 33:37Speaker 1: last week, I was telling the audience how Just recently,
- 33:40Speaker 1: I learned that I was not supposed to be putting
- 33:43Speaker 1: an S at the end of Scottie Pippen after all
- 33:45Speaker 1: these years. I've been calling him Scottie Pippens.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Hilarious.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Yeah. So I'm not going to know that answer.
- 33:51Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 33:51Speaker 1: But I'm going to say 15. Just a guess.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Oh, wait. No, it's not 15. It's 45. It's on
- 33:59Speaker 2: April 15th, but everyone wears the number 45 for Jackie Robinson.
- 34:02Speaker 2: That's his number.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Wow. Wow.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Did you know that answer? Yeah, yeah.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Before looking it up, you knew that answer?
- 34:08Speaker 2: Yeah, because of a baseball fan. Because every time I
- 34:10Speaker 2: watch baseball, it's all 45s.
- 34:13Speaker 1: So are you feeling FOMO that a game is about
- 34:15Speaker 1: to start across the street in this beautiful weather? Are
- 34:17Speaker 1: you going?
- 34:17Speaker 2: I'm an Oakland, I'm a Sacramento A's fan now. So
- 34:21Speaker 2: I'm feeling FOMO because I won't be here next week
- 34:23Speaker 2: when they're here.
- 34:24Speaker 1: I see, okay.
- 34:25Speaker 2: But I did go to a game on Friday.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Oh, you did?
- 34:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay. I definitely went to it. As soon as
- 34:29Speaker 2: I got to this, I was like, is there a
- 34:30Speaker 2: game playing I need? I would love to go.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Oh, that's good.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:33Speaker 1: When I had my game show I was telling you about,
- 34:35Speaker 1: it was here April 28th or 29th. I forgot already.
- 34:40Speaker 1: But we were up against the Pistons playoffs right next door. Oh, shit. Yeah,
- 34:45Speaker 1: so downtown was crazy. The parking and everything. But we
- 34:48Speaker 1: still had an audience, and we had one of the
- 34:50Speaker 1: best shows ever.
- 34:51Speaker 2: That's so good, though, because it's hard, especially with all
- 34:54Speaker 2: the sports things going on.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Because the thing you can't even, even when you, the
- 34:57Speaker 1: thing about being located here, I don't care what date
- 35:00Speaker 1: you get, if it turns out that someone's going to
- 35:03Speaker 1: be in the Super Bowl and it wasn't planned, what
- 35:05Speaker 1: are you going to do? Or, you know.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Yeah. I was going to say. Because everything's right next
- 35:10Speaker 2: door to us. Tell the audience where they can find you. Okay.
- 35:15Speaker 2: And where are you going to be at next?
- 35:16Speaker 1: Okay. So you can find me at Tam White Comedy,
- 35:19Speaker 1: T-A-M like Tammy, white like the color comedy. And I
- 35:22Speaker 1: put up a lot of cool, I do a lot
- 35:24Speaker 1: of sketches that I do myself, really fun content that
- 35:28Speaker 1: I put online, as well as my show dates and
- 35:30Speaker 1: some of my clips. Next I will be, oh, can
- 35:35Speaker 1: I tell them about my show here? Yeah. It's coming
- 35:37Speaker 1: back September 9th. And it's called Hip Hop Improv Game
- 35:41Speaker 1: Show with a Dash of Hip Hop because I love
- 35:43Speaker 1: music so much. So local comedians and improvisers compete with
- 35:48Speaker 1: a lot of improv and hip hop challenges. I host it.
- 35:51Speaker 1: I produce it. I created it. Stevie Soul, Detroit's premier beatboxer,
- 35:56Speaker 1: he's my beatboxer. He beatboxes at every show because there
- 36:00Speaker 1: are freestyle rap competitions also in the show. Each round is...
- 36:05Speaker 1: Each game, each part of the game is judged by
- 36:08Speaker 1: comedian Michael McDaniel, who's kind of like my co-host. He's
- 36:12Speaker 1: an awesome celebrity impressionist. He was, like, this close to
- 36:14Speaker 1: getting on Saturday Night Live. Yeah, he lost out to, like,
- 36:17Speaker 1: I think Jay Pharoah years ago. Yeah, he's very good.
- 36:20Speaker 1: That's how good he is. As each round, he judges
- 36:26Speaker 1: each person as a celebrity. So imagine Steve Harvey or
- 36:30Speaker 1: Donald Trump or Dave Chappelle breaking down what he thought
- 36:33Speaker 1: about your last, you know, you're a pun or a punchline. Yeah. So,
- 36:38Speaker 1: and then audience win prizes and everything we do is
- 36:42Speaker 1: based off audience suggestions. So they're automatically a part of
- 36:45Speaker 1: the show too. It's a lot of fun.
- 36:47Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 36:47Speaker 1: September 9th, Wednesday here, seven 30 at the mic drop. Yep.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 36:51Speaker 1: But yeah, follow me cause I'm everywhere doing standup and
- 36:54Speaker 1: improv and stuff. And I'll be headlining at Ann Arbor
- 36:56Speaker 1: comedy showcase, um, labor day weekend too.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Okay.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:00Speaker 2: And then I was going to say, definitely go check out, uh,
- 37:05Speaker 2: It's about Tantime.
- 37:06Speaker 1: It's about Tantime. It's still on.
- 37:09Speaker 2: YouTube, my special.
- 37:14Speaker 1: I love that.
