- 0:21I do feel like this might be a yelly episode. Everything's great
- 0:25We also had we had a warning from mocha right before that the mics were going on
- 0:32Yes, we cannot we're already yapping. We're laughing up until
- 0:36Everything is great. There is nothing wrong at all in the world of sports anything being erected in
- 0:45Washington DC right now. Oh
- 0:47Definitely not an octagon on the White House lawn that everything's that would be idiocracy, which was a fake movie, right?
- 0:53That wasn't a documentary mocha ever see aocracy
- 0:58Yeah, well we're living in it, yeah, you don't need to rewatch it because it's
- 1:03Literally on turn on CNN and you'll watch it. I
- 1:09Like Mike judge I saw it like on T. It was one of those on TV movies
- 1:14We just like randomly landed on it. Maybe three or four years ago. It was post Trump's first
- 1:19Term and I remember being like at that point. I was like, oh no
- 1:23Oh, no, and we are so much further down the rabbit hole now. Everything's great
- 1:28Everything is great. And I can't wait to watch some UFC fighting just the way just the way, you know, Thomas Jefferson
- 1:36Imagine did you hear that like a bunch of the people they announced a bunch of the like musical artists?
- 1:40They announced that like we're supposed to be performing have pulled out because they were like first of all
- 1:45No, secondly, we were told by whatever a booker that we were playing Washington DC. We didn't know this was what we were booked for
- 1:51So they pull out milly-vanilla like whatever half of milly-vanilla was supposed to show the nilly isn't going to perform
- 1:58Was like what? Well now now not everything is as great as it was just three minutes ago
- 2:04Everything is still great. Let's let's watch some fighting. Let's watch some fighting in the Rose Garden
- 2:13So excited to see some good old-fashioned fisticuffs down there the Rose Garden I haven't watched UFC in so long
- 2:21Everything is great. Yeah. Oh and you know, we got other things to cover today
- 2:26Because everything is great. The owners of Major League Baseball put together a
- 2:30CBA proposal the the NBA is gonna stop tanking
- 2:35Everything is great. Everything is great. By the way, you're not gonna be here on this next Monday
- 2:40We're taking next Monday off and we will be back on Friday, of course, but why are we taking next Monday off?
- 2:46I'm I'm storming the Capitol. Hey
- 2:49Everything
- 2:51Everything's great guys
- 2:54Washington DC trying to enact change. Yes. Well, good luck because I don't know if I heard me. Everything's great. Yes
- 3:03headlines
- 3:05Just we're gonna kick this off with something that's so great we love to see
- 3:11the Jackson dart has addressed his
- 3:15His team his locker room over his Trump introduction cool, we're gonna get into a couple of the
- 3:22Details around this that are a little bit suspect
- 3:25He addressed his teammates Wednesday during a team meeting to discuss his introduction of President Donald Trump at an event last week in New York
- 3:31These are non-mandatory OTAs, right? These yeah, these are OTAs. Okay. Yeah
- 3:37optional
- 3:38Non-mandatory, that's the what the OTAs is in there, right? Yeah, cool. So the whole team was that well
- 3:45There was there was a good chunk of the team to be fair
- 3:51Leaders such as Brian Burns cave on Thibodeau and James Winston were among those that spoke
- 3:57Okay, I would love to know what Brian Burns and cave on Thibodeau said
- 4:01Mmm, I could go my whole life without knowing what James Winston something about eating a W. Yeah
- 4:06The Giants
- 4:08You know among the things they discussed we're keeping things internal and not airing frustrations publicly
- 4:15So you would think that was aimed perhaps at Abdul Carter who?
- 4:20Aimed his frustrations publicly at Donald Trump. Well, you know what? I gotta say
- 4:24I'm glad that this was addressed in the thing and Abdul Carter was able to be there to
- 4:28Absolutely defend himself and say his piece so they can come to a good resolution as a team and everyone can grow
- 4:35Well, that's the thing Cody. Hmm
- 4:38Abdul Carter was not at the Giants facility Wednesday volunteer OTAs
- 4:42So you say he celebrated a religious holiday and had family obligations
- 4:47And he had previously communicated that he would not be at practice that day, but yes back in the building on Thursday
- 4:52Well, man, what a what an oversight having this team meeting, you know
- 4:57I guess we're just gonna have to do it again when Abdul Carter arrives
- 5:00Honestly interesting choice to choose the day that they
- 5:04Absolutely 100% knew that Abdul Carter who is at the center of this and absolutely should have been there for this
- 5:09coincidence Tanya do you
- 5:11coincidence pure
- 5:14unadulterated not at all
- 5:16national headline news
- 5:19Coincidence you don't think that they're MAGA head coach
- 5:23And
- 5:29Their owner who is in who's allegedly in the
- 5:37Everything is great. Everything is totally normal
- 5:41so
- 5:42They did it without Abdul Carter there
- 5:45Despite the fact that Abdul Carter has endured a significant amount of criticism as well
- 5:51Size but Abdul Carter has been criticized especially
- 5:55for
- 5:56being a distraction, yeah, and
- 5:59So this is it. We've already a
- 6:03Immediately, there are two things that stand out as a red flag. Yes
- 6:06Number one Abdul Carter not being there for this meeting. I imagine that regardless of how he felt about it
- 6:12I and I'm not gonna speak for him. Of course
- 6:14He should have been there and to the fact that they are continuing to say they want to keep things internal Cody
- 6:21I'm gonna ask you a really easy question. Let's hear
- 6:25Was Jackson dart keeping things internal when he got on a stage and introduced the president of the United States?
- 6:32You mean what you mean that time? He was pleasured. Mmm pleasure to introduce very pleasured
- 6:36I want to make that abundantly clear because I'm using his words. He was pleasured. Mm-hmm
- 6:41Hmm no, he didn't seem to keep that to himself
- 6:45There do you try to do a go blue chant? Yeah, it's like he brought Giants business directly to a political stage
- 6:52No, no, that's that's on you for thinking. It's political. Okay, how dare you think that this this this quarterback would go out there and
- 7:00introduce and be pleasured by
- 7:02Introducing the president United States who is very loved
- 7:06I
- 7:08Don't know I just I can't believe you're even insinuating such a thing. Yeah
- 7:12Well, it was an honor and it was a joy. He would be basically like the rest of New York Sports Media
- 7:18Who is kind of acting currently like this isn't really happening. There's a lot of
- 7:24New York Sports Media seems to be a lot more concerned right now with
- 7:29Abdul Carter, it's wild. It's wild. I will tell you that that we talked about this the other day
- 7:34Yeah, this is the thing that is bothering me. I'm gonna I'll be freely honest with you
- 7:39Yeah, I am NOT as bothered by Jackson dark and introducing Trump. I'm really not I do I like it?
- 7:46No, do I think you should have done it? No
- 7:49But I I'm not gonna begrudge somebody introducing the president, even though I vehemently disagree with
- 7:55Everything this administration has done to this point and I vehemently disagree with anyone that supports it vehemently vehemently vehemently
- 8:02But I'm I'm I just going to remember that's all I just will remember that you did this for sure
- 8:08but I'm
- 8:09Whatever if we get to do it if the left gets to do it the right can do it, too
- 8:13Fine, if that's what it is, I think the left get to do it
- 8:17Sometimes sometimes because I will make examples like Steve Kerr has gone out and done it and and Steph Curry of that big
- 8:23I'm just has introduced at rallies. Yes. Yes a
- 8:27Democratic route, right? Okay, but again, this is not about
- 8:31So much that I do not agree with it I want to make that apparently clear just making sure we're on the same page
- 8:36What I can't fathom is
- 8:39How and I will say weirdly
- 8:43Successfully, I might add that they are trying so
- 8:46Embarrassingly to twist themselves into pretzels that Abdul Carter is the guy that did something wrong. Mm-hmm
- 8:52This is batshit crazy
- 8:54This is
- 8:56Gaslighting to a degree that I don't I don't have time for like I'm willing to say fine
- 9:02You can introduce whoever the fuck you want. That's not my business
- 9:05This is fucking this is honestly
- 9:08I'm gonna fucking disgust actually and every medium person that's going about it this way fucking shame on you
- 9:15You're embarrassing yourselves and you're embarrassing the sport and honestly your own intelligence
- 9:21Which I can only assume you don't have or you're bought and paid for it's one of two things
- 9:24It's one of it's just one of two things
- 9:26Yeah
- 9:27Being afraid, you know
- 9:28There's an element of it where we know that these leagues the owners the people in charge are lean more
- 9:33Conservatively generally have ties to these types of people and so the media is telling the media has you know, Dan Labrador porting this out
- 9:41Recently where he talked about, you know, New York is known as this tough sports media
- 9:47Market, right? They're tough. They ask the tough questions. They know
- 9:51Athletes, they're not tough on the people
- 9:53Right. They're not actually ever
- 9:56Investigatively tough they're not asking questions to root out the actual problems politically or socially
- 10:03they want to be rate and or
- 10:07Lecture to the teams and the athletes themselves. They want to cause that kind of drama
- 10:12But the reality is these are not markets where the journalism itself is like high quality purely because they're so
- 10:19wrapped up in you know reporting the right thing or doing the right thing and the and the fact of the matter is as
- 10:25Far as when it comes to like, all right
- 10:28If you want to say Jackson Dart has the right to go introduce Trump
- 10:33No one's argued that right nobody's like he doesn't have the right to what happens is I have the right to also say shit
- 10:40Right, there's backlash and the fact the matter is he knew there was going to be back
- 10:46He doesn't care and
- 10:49Everybody believed just like and this is why I think what Abdul Carter did was so important
- 10:55everybody believed that just like with
- 10:58Every other white bro who's gone out and made some sort of statement like this
- 11:03That they were just gonna let it go
- 11:06The Ravens last year after Harbaugh chastised the entire Baltimore media for asking him about
- 11:13Like why he would stand by Donald Trump when Donald Trump constantly trashes the state of the city of Baltimore and he would
- 11:20Jim John Harbaugh said straight up like I don't know why you'd even ask that question. That question is completely unfair
- 11:25I support the president as much as I support my
- 11:29quarterback, right ignoring the fact that the that that
- 11:33The the president has a repeatedly trashed the city of Baltimore so they had called it Baltimore did their job
- 11:40They said hey just so you know
- 11:41You know this president what he says about this city the city that you represent the city that you say you love and that you're
- 11:45Tired of you mean actually actual journalistic questions
- 11:48The journalist a question like journalistic questions that people in say, New York the journalistic capital of the world would do
- 11:53Yeah, I can't you know what the thing is about this and I'm not tying this into everything New York
- 11:58But I've been working in the New York media for the last four years, right? I've been in the midst of it
- 12:03It's bullshit. Mm-hmm. Literally all of it. It's just
- 12:09La to though, but you know what at least LA is showing you its fakeness all the time, New York
- 12:14You're standing on a pedestal standing on a pedestal is talking about their integrity when they are exactly the same thing
- 12:20It's the exact same veiled reality TV show bullshit worse, but except you're wearing a fucking suit that is that's just it
- 12:27It's no fucking different and it's actually asinine that they say it is
- 12:32Just just be what you are and stop pretending that you're elites. You're not you're the same as everyone else
- 12:38I am so tired of like the real the reality is let's say somebody really really liberal goes to
- 12:45Ole Miss for example and makes an incredibly woke statement in front of a crowded Ole Miss
- 12:50They're going to be get told that they are act that they knew what they were doing that there were
- 12:56Antagonistic and that they knew what the reaction would be now on the flip side you have this this
- 13:01Trumper, I mean Jackson art is mega. He's really mega playing for a blue city
- 13:07represented by a
- 13:08Democratic Socialist mayor
- 13:13Incredibly blue city and the entire media suddenly thinks that it's not that oh, we have to just let it go
- 13:19It's not that he's allowed to go do it
- 13:21No stand on your fucking principles
- 13:23And if all of you are just if you share his political values time to just admit that I'm so tired of playing this game
- 13:31Just be out there and admit it
- 13:33I'm so tired of playing the game of like my aiming Abdul Carter for hating somebody for supporting a racist
- 13:39And I'm just you don't even have to you don't even have to pretend
- 13:42That we like we know Donald Trump is racist, but this isn't like a question
- 13:47So just be like no, I think you should be allowed to go hang out with a racist say that just say it
- 13:51I just I I don't know what to say like it's
- 13:54the talking out of both sides your mouth like we talked about the other people in the industry that are just like
- 14:00Trying so hard to be like, oh you can't keep your opinions to yourself and your politics
- 14:04no, but this is great because he introduced the president like it's just
- 14:08the the the the ever the arrogance to have it both ways and to
- 14:14Outwardly say it in real time
- 14:17It's just we have to keep these things internal like so
- 14:20So he's allowed to do whatever he wants on a national stage and none of his teammates can react
- 14:26He is the golden white boy, by the way, you and I talked about this before just he's not fucking he's not Aaron Rodgers
- 14:33He's not Tom Brady. He's not even Matthew
- 14:36Who is this white boy that this is earned to this fucking platform to me man, it's so annoying
- 14:41I feel like I'm on a different fucking planet at this point and I and it's mind-blowing
- 14:47The narratives that come out being in sports media
- 14:50Have you have you noticed this as well in the last couple years just how lazy they've gotten about narratives now
- 14:56It used to be a little better veiled now. It's just so outwardly
- 15:01every one of these media outlets is treating you like you are I
- 15:05Fucking and you're letting them and you are allowing you're letting them and it's like the fact that they think this low about you
- 15:11it's just
- 15:12It's unbelievable and the idea that you're gonna sell me
- 15:15I mean listen the Giants have just proven that they are an unserious pathetic franchise
- 15:20Handling it this way having the the message be we got to keep things internal after the face of your franchise made it not
- 15:27Internal and doing it without Abdul Carter there. You're a joke of a franchise
- 15:31You're unserious and most of the country is now rooting for you to fail. Congratulations
- 15:36That's that's where we're leaving that for now, everything is great. Everything is great. Let's move on to something else
- 15:42That's incredibly great headline
- 15:43Number two, the NBA draft lottery has changed league owners vote in favor of a new three-to-one format aimed at preventing
- 15:52Tanking Cody tankings been solved everyone. Congratulations
- 15:56By the way, they're so confident in this proposal. They're so confident
- 16:00This is gonna work that they're only promising to do it through 2029 and then they're gonna reassess after baby
- 16:05It's ironclad
- 16:06ironclad shit
- 16:09They're signing on to this for three seasons, that's how confident they are. Oh boy. Oh boy. Do you want to hear about this?
- 16:17New lottery situation that is supposed to inhibit team from steams tanking Tanya. Yes
- 16:23I do and you but I want you to do it this way
- 16:25Okay, I want you to do it and make it make sense to me because I have read this and I'm not kidding
- 16:32Times can do that for you. I don't read it four times and I still have no fucking idea what this means
- 16:39I'm not positive if anybody in the comments wants to try to make it make sense. They can I'm gonna read it out loud
- 16:45We'll go from go for it
- 16:47Okay
- 16:47The new policy which some have called the three-to-one format will increase the number of teams in the draft lottery while providing fewer
- 16:54Chances for the three worst teams in the NBA to obtain the number one overall pick
- 16:58So this is how it work the bottom three teams or three NBA teams with the worst records
- 17:03Will receive two lottery balls for the number one overall pick those three teams
- 17:07However can't pick any higher than number 12 overall in the draft the seven remaining
- 17:15NBA teams that fail to make the playoffs or take part in the play in tournament will receive three lottery balls three
- 17:22The four teams that secure the number nine and ten seeds in the playoff tournament will receive two lottery balls
- 17:28The two teams that lose in the seven eight play in games will get one in the lottery ball
- 17:33And additionally a team cannot win the number one overall pick in the draft in consecutive years
- 17:38There will also be restrictions on teams picking within the top five
- 17:41Consistently as no team will be allowed to win a top five pick in three consecutive years
- 17:46Teams will also not be allowed to protect picks in the 12 to 15 slots going forward
- 17:52Now, I think what's confusing you is probably what's confusing me and the thing that's confusing me is
- 18:01This feels like they aren't punishing tanking. They're just punishing being bad
- 18:08Mocha, you got all those you got all that right? Yeah, you heard everything. She just described
- 18:13Make sense to you
- 18:16Problem solved
- 18:18Problem solved. Well tankings dead. Congratulations NBA. Yeah, I don't understand what likes to me
- 18:23This isn't targeted at specifically teams tanking. It's targeted at being bad. And those are two different things. I
- 18:31Like this isn't actually a dress I got nothing of purposefully there's nothing about this that makes sense to me nothing
- 18:38Just taking away the draft lottery balls away from teams at the bottom three
- 18:45How does that solve the problem they're still in the lottery yes
- 18:49But they just have less balls
- 18:51Yeah
- 18:52And and they're rewarding teams who are a little bit better who are closer to the playoffs or may have made it but made the
- 18:58playoffs or the play-in
- 19:03What is this actually do it ensures that some of these bottom feeder teams stay bad longer
- 19:11That's what I feel like it's gonna do I don't I think it's I mean, I think they got nothing
- 19:16I think they know that's probably what's gonna happen, which is why they're only instituting it for three years three years
- 19:21It's just this is this just doesn't make any sense. Well, did you say they unanimously voted? Yes on it?
- 19:26I don't know because if they if they unanimously voted, yes
- 19:31It's a stupid idea. I mean, well, of course, it's a dumb idea. So maybe there was a holdout
- 19:36I got nothing. I this is the dumbest thing
- 19:39I've ever heard as of now if someone couldn't get in the chat and tell me that this is a great idea
- 19:44I'm all ears
- 19:46This just seems like more honestly, you know what? This just seems like yeah, this is where I feel like
- 19:53Everything loses me. I do not think adding more
- 19:57Unnecessary bureau bureaucracy is going to help anything
- 20:02Overcomplicating things doesn't solve fucking anything. No making things simpler and digestible
- 20:09Honestly, it's just the best idea
- 20:11but the problem is there's too many teams that they got to put in the playoffs because it makes too much money and now the
- 20:16Bottom teams that clearly have only one real path to make themselves a better team
- 20:20Which is tanking is now being taken away, but no it's not because this actually doesn't make any sense. I
- 20:27I mean everything is great. That is the theme of today's show that everything's great
- 20:33And that's great. I don't know. I don't know how you landed in this place of being like
- 20:39Oppositionally delusional but listen, I'm with you Adam silver has solved tanking and
- 20:45Let's just keep going with the show and the positive vibe
- 20:47It's really weird to be like I've solved tanking the bad teams are gonna potentially stay bad longer
- 20:54Yeah, but they're also still gonna be in the lottery
- 20:57But we're just reducing their odds and we're giving higher odds teams that are better
- 21:04So they're basically trying to they're trying to get the bad teams to be in the three ball tier
- 21:11Like oh you want to tank but like you're not gonna get the three balls
- 21:15You're only gonna get two balls and it's it's too now. You're asking these teams to tank mathematically it they're just gonna it's so stupid
- 21:22Yeah bad news
- 21:24Stop with all of this stupid shit the 65 game threshold
- 21:29Which was supposed to every time they try to fucking solve a problem. They cause four more fucking problems
- 21:35Stop it. Just fucking stop it. Stop trying to solve all the problems
- 21:39You're just not gonna you're making shit so much more worse and so much dumber
- 21:43It was like honestly, I will say the the the thing they were trying to solve with the 65 game thing where it's like
- 21:50Oh, no more arresting your players. Mama. It wasn't even bothering me them. What who is this bothered by?
- 21:55It's just always something they solve it with this. Oh that caused this problem this problem, which was
- 22:02Actually worse than the previous problem while the actual issues that we're facing with SGA falling and flopping in
- 22:09Doing the kind of stuff I've never seen before
- 22:12Adam Silver comes out and he's like the refereeing has been amazing
- 22:15It's like you're not even actually addressing anything that actually could be an issue
- 22:20We soccer dealt with flopping all years ago and figured it out and somehow you're just getting on board
- 22:26Okay, fine, whatever speaking of the Thunder headline number three
- 22:31Cody yes
- 22:32Should the Thunder make a play for Giannis in an attempt to when be proof their future?
- 22:38No, I'm going to read you the prop position. I'm listening. Okay, and then you can decide okay, okay
- 22:45I
- 22:46Said the Thunder get through the series beat the New York Knicks to win their second straight
- 22:50I think they likely will I hope not but I think they likely will with their young core locked in plus the treasure trove of
- 22:56First-round picks and swaps press. He is accumulated throughout previous training more. We should be talking dynasty 13 more
- 23:03Instead Oklahoma City might not even enter 2026 2027 as the favorite to win the title because we see where the Spurs are going
- 23:12Do they stay the course with a team, you know, that's championship caliber
- 23:16That's probably gonna get lapped by the Spurs or do they change the team to come back and kind of stay on top?
- 23:23There's not you don't often get an opportunity to go for a player like Giannis
- 23:28So that's the math that you're doing here is like we get this one shot
- 23:32Under the current CBA the future for the Thunder is clear with SGA locked in and new deals kicking in next year for Jalen Williams
- 23:40There will be precious little room to maneuver going forward and that doesn't include players who will soon get paid like Jared McCain AJ Mitchell
- 23:47and
- 23:48Cason Wallace
- 23:49So the bottom line is Oklahoma City will not be able to keep this team together in its current form
- 23:54Under the current CBA whether it's moving off one of its huge contracts or getting somebody, you know
- 24:00Getting its bench split up or whatever else now
- 24:04We have a little bit of a blueprint of what happens when you have to get rid of the
- 24:09Important role players that you have and just keep your high-paid starts and it's the Boston Celtics
- 24:13Yes, we saw how that went this year now granted. They were without Jason Tatum for most of the season
- 24:18They get didn't get a chance to gel but they very clearly, you know
- 24:21That's a team that needs to replace a lot of like star players that help them win their title
- 24:28Do you think they need a Giannis in order to compete with the Spurs and when be moving forward no, you don't know
- 24:36They have a very good blueprint
- 24:39Why would you change the blueprint because this bench is gonna get harder to afford you're right
- 24:44They've been drafting the next version of that bench and they will continue to do so for the foreseeable future all the way till
- 24:502030
- 24:51I see no reason for them to change course now. They've won one title last year
- 24:58Seemingly on their way to a second to a team in a defense that is currently not when be proof
- 25:03Yet they're gonna likely beat when be one of these next two games now, I hope that doesn't happen
- 25:08I'd like to see this first go forward
- 25:11But this team seems to know very well what they're doing. Not only with their draft department with their
- 25:17Developmental and they're what do you say? What if just I mean, I'm not against it if that's what I truly want
- 25:22But I don't see why listen. That's our job is to either be for it or against it. I know I'm I'm not
- 25:29Posing a different I'm proposing a different which is we don't know what's gonna happen tonight
- 25:33So this is only gonna be so evergreen, but fair let's say
- 25:38the Spurs
- 25:39Win tonight. Let's say the Spurs win this series somehow. Okay
- 25:43Now they're out the Spurs have beat them the Spurs are the Spurs got him. Do you still feel that way? Yes
- 25:49Okay, I do. I'm gonna I'm not gonna lie if the Spurs beat them
- 25:53Now with this team with Wimby at where he's at right now, I'm going to get you honest
- 25:59Listen, that's fine. By the way, and that is your right to do so
- 26:03I know but I don't I just can't see a world
- 26:06Where they just if they lose they're losing game seven of the Western Conference Finals and what has been one of the most I'm not
- 26:12Saying it would be embarrassing for just one of the most bad shit back and forth serious because here's the thing
- 26:16They've shown that they can stop Giannis. They've done it a couple of times this series. He's a baby. I agree
- 26:23He might only get better, but we're all
- 26:25Might only get better. It's not it's good to say injuries don't happen. I know but you can't count on that. You're right
- 26:32Listen, I I hear what you're saying
- 26:35But I mmm, I'm not there yet. I'm not there yet
- 26:39I'm not everyone's gonna need a Wimby proof themselves like we're talking about here
- 26:44Yes, correct. The Lakers need a Wimby proofs themselves have nuggets need
- 26:48I guess what I find so fascinating about this is
- 26:52Wimby proofing yourself is a very difficult thing to do near it near impossible. Perhaps pretty much impossible, but
- 26:58Yon is becoming available. Is this tiny little window of helping you do that? It's not a he's hold on
- 27:05He's not the kind of player that just becomes
- 27:08available to a team and that's the only reason I'm entertaining this is because
- 27:13Giannis has a few more years in his physical prime that where
- 27:18You land with the right team and you land in on sort of a super to have your pieces
- 27:22How shitty would it be?
- 27:25That Giannis ends up an Oklahoma City. I don't I agree. I don't I'm
- 27:32I'm doing this as an unbiased
- 27:35Observer of basketball if I'm Sam Presti, do I want it?
- 27:39Fuck no. No, I can think of
- 27:4215 teams I'd prefer you on his go-to
- 27:45For entertainment. I'd rather go to the Lakers and I don't necessarily want him on the Lakers. No, I'll take him
- 27:50Yeah, I mean Giannis Luka that would be like a bazaar
- 28:01It doesn't need to happen no, but I mean there are so there are so many more entertaining places
- 28:07I would love to see him play. I mean, you know, I want him in Minnesota
- 28:10I want him to go to Minnesota guys. Oh god. Damn it. I want him with ants so bad if he's
- 28:15So bad, it would be really entertaining. I know
- 28:19I know you're terrified of it. I
- 28:22Yes, and I understand
- 28:24if he goes
- 28:26To top of this screw fuck everything else if he just goes to the Western Conference, it doesn't matter who he goes to
- 28:32Everyone the Western Comp the Eastern Conference is practically irrelevant now
- 28:37Can you imagine if Giannis goes to the Western Conference could be a real opening for the Knicks to start there
- 28:43They're their Eastern Conference
- 28:45Dynasty, but I don't know how they're ever gonna get past any of these Western Conference teams. We'll see you know
- 28:50We'll see maybe the Knicks will get Wembley
- 28:52Maybe they'll I mean, how about this? I do know for a fact that Wembley wants to be in New York. Really?
- 28:58No, I know that for okay
- 29:00They'd have to they'd have to basically just get rid of everybody but Jalen Brunson and that's fine
- 29:06But my follow-up question is why?
- 29:08You're in the finals. I mean, you're finally in the final. So you're gonna try to get this whole thing
- 29:12I will say this team if I were a GM and people might call me crazy
- 29:17Do I think that this next team's been amazing? Absolutely. I'm not arguing that and their fans have reacted
- 29:23Really totally really normally. Yeah to everything we said the other day
- 29:28They were mad at me
- 29:30why because I just said I don't like Nick fans because of and then every one of the Knicks fans responded and
- 29:36Just made my point sort of accidentally make your point for you
- 29:40They can't they're incapable of any other behavior. This is what they are
- 29:46I'm sorry, they just outed themselves
- 29:49In real time. I mean you they did and I'm not arguing
- 29:55But I also I also don't really by the way, okay see gets in the finals
- 29:59I have no choice but to root for the Knicks. I'm still I don't think they're gonna beat the OKC
- 30:04But I I'd be you said with it. You said last show you wouldn't root for the Knicks over the Thunder
- 30:16You get to root for cat which we agree we
- 30:18Always want to root for cat and I love Jayla Brunson. I love Josh Hart. So speaking of cat
- 30:23so that's the thing is that you in this situation no matter how much I do love this team and I
- 30:28Think that like it would not shock me if they won a title because they're on a heater right now and they just did it
- 30:33It would not shock me. Um, I would be I wouldn't bet on it, but it wouldn't shock me
- 30:38The thing is I don't see this team as a sustainable continue to go to the finals team
- 30:43I just don't they've had to kind of really nail the matchups get a little bit lucky with some like
- 30:50With the Celtics meltdown and some other things that happened. I do think
- 30:54That this is not a team that's gonna repeatedly go back to the finals in its current form
- 30:58They but but when better than now to sell high
- 31:05Cat all these you might actually be able to get some of your investment back on McHale bridges
- 31:10This has happened before this is this exact thing. Oh what happened in 1998? Oh, Jim. We're going back
- 31:18Yeah, we are having a baseball. Okay, so in 1997 the Miami sorry, the Florida Marlins won the World Series
- 31:25Yes, the Cleveland Indians at the time
- 31:27That team had Gary Sheffield Bobby Bonilla Jim Eisen, right?
- 31:32Kevin Brown
- 31:33Just name after name after name
- 31:36Kevin no, not Kevin Brown. Sorry Jim Eisen, right?
- 31:40Charles Johnson the catcher all starters, by the way, Jim, I read the left fielder Charles Johnson the catcher
- 31:46Gary Sheffield and Bobby Bonilla were all traded. Okay, Los Angeles Dodgers for their superstar
- 31:53Mike Piazza and Todd zeal. Mm-hmm. I
- 31:57Loved these players that we got because they were phenomenal
- 32:00Yeah, half of the starting lineup of the defending World Series champions, right?
- 32:04I wanted Mike Piazza and Todd zeal to remain Dodgers, right?
- 32:08This was a tough tough day for me. So what I say there's precedent of trading away half of a championship team. Yeah
- 32:16Immediately after winning a championship. Yeah, it does exist. I don't like it, but it does exist
- 32:22Listen, I watched I watched Belichick do it a lot during their run like the way that they sustained
- 32:28Teams and now grants and I understand the NFL is different than the NBA
- 32:32But like their ability his ability to say, okay great. Thank you for this incredible Super Bowl run now, we're selling high
- 32:39We're gonna get money every single star
- 32:41Cornerback or whatever whether they were homegrown or whether they were free agents
- 32:44He'd get make money off of them. He'd get picks for them and he just turned them over turn them over and
- 32:48While it's different strategies if there's still a principal that can be involved. So that's just uh, that's another theory on how potentially
- 32:55Things go even even if they win a title well
- 33:00Interesting, let's just say that way. Hey, listen, I've made it abundantly clear no matter what everything's great
- 33:07Yes, and everything and by the way Cody, yes, everybody believes you when you say that everything's great
- 33:12I totally believe that you mama Fox you believe me yet. Everything's great
- 33:17Well, everything is also great I'll tell you somebody who's really trying to sell us on that is JJ McCarthy right now
- 33:24Guy continues to rub media and fans the wrong way amidst his QB battle with Kyler Murray
- 33:32So there's a video here of both Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy
- 33:38reacting to or answering the question about how they're handling their sort of
- 33:42Relationship as they move forward toward this quarterback battle into the into the offseason and preseason, right?
- 33:47Kyler Murray media-trained seven-year vet says all the things you expect to hear from a quarterback in this
- 33:57Thing from Dan Turner who I agree with
- 34:00Our last topic we're talking about the Oklahoma City Thunder. I just saw this dad. I apologize. I should have said it at the time
- 34:06Okay. Oh, no, how to replace the bench with all these 76 first-round picks
- 34:1276 first-round
- 34:17Yeah, but also just drafting a bunch of young players doesn't put you back in the title contention like that's not how it works
- 34:23I don't know it did this time. No, it didn't
- 34:25Years to build into this they did right now. They're just gonna continue. They're not
- 34:31If they have to sell off those players, I promise you that bench is gonna change the consistency of that team
- 34:35Oh, yeah, they're not gonna you're only gonna get more and more of those first picks overall and what is it gonna matter?
- 34:41They're gonna be going up against Wembley and a team that's actually fully like for a for a short time
- 34:46Yeah, they're just gonna replenish and all of a sudden just be a dynasty forever. No, why are you so weird about the Thunder?
- 34:52They're gonna have like it's like it'll be fine. I see the future
- 34:57No, you're not
- 35:00That's simply not true rarely
- 35:04JJ McCarthy is super weird
- 35:06He answered the question bizarrely and was I said like Kyler who for for all the shit
- 35:12Kyler Murray's gotten over the years for not being a great leader or being checked out or not working hard enough
- 35:18He was like, yeah, we're like, I love working with him. We're working really hard. We're getting along blah blah
- 35:23JJ McCarthy asked the same question was like we sit in the room across from each other and
- 35:29That's cool. He answered it so weird. He has like this guy
- 35:34The part of me that is really frustrated with JJ McCarthy is I see how Kyler Murray was treated for being
- 35:41like for being perceived as
- 35:44Enigmatic and sort of like out of touch and like not a great person on the mic, right?
- 35:48Yeah
- 35:48I see what happens to Shadour who is always
- 35:51Incredibly charming and cool to the media and like seems to always say the right thing
- 35:55I see what these
- 35:56quarterbacks all the shit that they're given and then
- 35:58JJ McCarthy ever since he's been in the NFL and specifically last season into this just never
- 36:05Constantly sounds like an asshole. He has done nothing to earn our belief that he should be a starting quarterback
- 36:13Everybody believes Kyler Murray is gonna be the starter for a reason because he's a much better quarterback the idea that that we're even discussing
- 36:20Whether JJ McCarthy could win a quarterback battle is a fucking joke
- 36:25I don't think I don't know how tapped you in you are to the NFL very but I think
- 36:30well, I just meant like I
- 36:34Meant like the current NFL OTA situation not like NFL overall. Yes
- 36:41You asked me a question I know that did sound wildly condescending that's not what I meant
- 36:46I don't know if you heard of this national
- 36:49You ever heard of the Minnesota Vikings I have I have so this is who I'm talking about. Oh cool
- 36:55What color uniforms that they were?
- 36:58You're never gonna believe me, but it's purple. Oh
- 37:01Everything's great
- 37:03So this is what pisses me off is like there is no
- 37:07Kyler Murray is in a different stratosphere as a quarterback
- 37:13It's not even we should be laughing at the idea that JJ McCarthy
- 37:17We should be laughing in his face
- 37:20We should not even be
- 37:21Entertaining the idea of them selling us on a quarterback battle if I was in the Minnesota Vikings media
- 37:26I would be there being like so you guys are gonna stop lying to us, right?
- 37:29Because one of these dudes can't throw the ball and the other one is somebody who is one of the greatest
- 37:35College passers we've ever seen who can throw the ball still 70 70 air yards without trying
- 37:40Like come on and the whole media is like well, we think Kyler's probably gonna win the battle. Oh my god
- 37:46When are we gonna stop fucking playing this game? When are we gonna stop playing this game?
- 37:50we're not gonna stop playing this game because football is king and football is desperate to make themselves that the
- 37:56Desperate housewives. I don't know what else to tell you. We all you asked the question. When are we gonna start laughing?
- 38:01I have been laughing
- 38:04This isn't a story like that's why I think this is hilarious. People are trying to make it a story
- 38:11JJ is kind of a weird little douche
- 38:13Seems kind of on point that seems like a normal thing. Yeah, that was a weird-ass comedy said yeah
- 38:19He's not starting for this team. Kyler's
- 38:22Kyler is such a better quarterback than him. It's not even I don't this is like not even a
- 38:28Conversation like so the fact that we're even asking JJ anything is kind of funny to me
- 38:34The only thing you should be asking him is how do you feel that you lost your job?
- 38:38How is it gonna feel to back up Kyler Murray this year? Are you ready to cut back up Kyler Murray?
- 38:42Are you mentally prepared for that? Do you think you can learn from Kyler Murray?
- 38:46These are really the only fucking questions since we asked JJ McCarthy right now, right? The fact that anyone's asking him anything else is
- 38:55It's a delusional waste of my time meanwhile the same question
- 38:59Everybody's assuming should or hasn't locked up the number one there
- 39:04There's actually there so the whole thing is just so backwards and the reason it's a story is because reverse it
- 39:10Reverse the situation and Kyler Murray is the worst quarterback saying stuff like that. It's a different conversation
- 39:17Arrogant entitled. Oh my god. No, no, no, it'd make no mistake if Lamar Jackson said what fucking JJ said
- 39:25We know what we know what the fucking undertones is this is racist ass shit undertones always just what it is always
- 39:35It pisses me off on Kyler Murray's behalf because
- 39:38I've told you this. I believe the Arizona Cardinals are like slightly more
- 39:45Dysfunctional than even the Cleveland Browns. I find them to be the most dysfunctional NFL team
- 39:50across the board and as soon as he leaves and he lands with the Vikings who everybody knows are one of the best run organizations
- 39:56Have an incredible coaching staff have Kevin O'Connell who is considered the quarterback whisper as soon as he lands there
- 40:01He is perfect in front of the camera. He says exactly the right stuff. I'm just wait for it right now
- 40:07I'm gonna call it right fucking now. This team is gonna win. I'm trapped in this this guy's name is winning the division this year
- 40:12I'm drafting him in fantasy. I don't know what's gonna happen the Green Bay Packers, especially with this fucking Josh Jacobs shit
- 40:17That's going on right now cuz listen, I know we know
- 40:19He was released. I don't know enough about this at the moment
- 40:22I don't feel like they've released enough about this at the moment
- 40:24So I don't feel confident really discussing it, but if he is guilty of what he's been accused of being released means
- 40:32Yeah, if he is guilty of what he's being accused of this guy's going to jail for a long time
- 40:37Yeah, period stop. Yeah, period that's monstrous shit if he fucking did this. Yes
- 40:42So you got that looming over this team you have your other star that on defense?
- 40:47Who's coming back for an injury at some point looming over this team Jordan?
- 40:50Love is he even your guy to be honest you paid him for your guy?
- 40:54Yeah
- 40:54But is he gonna play like you the guy you paid for he could end up being more of a Kirk Cousins guy very much
- 41:00So and by the way, nothing that Kirk Cousins is a solid quarterback. Yeah, but I see the guy that's gonna get you the Super Bowl
- 41:05That's my question for you Green Bay Packers because I know what the Green Bay Packers are your Super Bowl or bust
- 41:10In this division the Bears, I think they're gonna be good. But how good I don't know was last year again
- 41:16I'm not doing this again with the Bears doubt. I'm not doing no. No, I'm not
- 41:20But they were so good last year and it kind of it
- 41:23I'm not saying it happened overnight, but like man, they took a big leap last year new coaching staff
- 41:29I'm not suggesting a sophomore slump, but is their dominance going to continue?
- 41:33I'm interested to find out the Detroit Lions are still not slouches in that division. This is gonna be always
- 41:39This is going to be a fucking good division
- 41:44Every one of these teams are gonna beat the shit out of each other
- 41:47This does feel so to me Kyler Murray if he gets the Sam Darnold treatment, right?
- 41:52Yeah, because I mean by and large the Vikings
- 41:57Rehabbed Sam Darnold to the best version of himself. He went on to the Seahawks and sort of soared, right?
- 42:02We saw the best we saw that Sam Darnold could be a an
- 42:06A1 starter in the league because he was on the Vikings that what this is what the fucking Vikings do exactly
- 42:10If that's what Sam Darnold can do. I can't let's be honest. Let's be on talent wise
- 42:16Ceiling is higher. Yes. Now it I'm interested to see it man. This could I I'm just saying
- 42:22They have to make sure that o-line is strong strong, but I'm just saying this
- 42:26Could it backfire? It's a nightmare. Yeah, it could
- 42:32Fucking master, dude, so there's two people I've gone out on a limb for
- 42:37from the start of their career
- 42:39Caleb Williams and Kyle Kyler Murray
- 42:41I really was like I Kyler waiting for the Kyler breakthrough over and over and over again
- 42:45I got the Caleb Williams breakthrough nice and easy early great. I
- 42:50Gave up on the Kyler breakthrough in car. I was like, it's just not happening. He just does it's not happening now
- 42:55I'm back in and I'm nervous. I'm back in but and listen, I wasn't I'm a Michigan football fan
- 43:01Thanks for the title JJ. Also, I watched it. Thanks for
- 43:06Rushing so well, you're not gonna do that in the fucking NFL. You're not big enough. You're not strong enough. You don't have it
- 43:12I'm right. You don't have the legs Kyler has
- 43:16No
- 43:18Nothing that Kyler has I've seen Kyler win games
- 43:22Single-handedly and I watched him do it against the Raiders once to which I just I was so apoplectic with rage on how he did
- 43:27this
- 43:28listen, I'm
- 43:30The Vikings are the most interesting team to me going into this season because of the Kyler Murray little yeah
- 43:35I'm really interested to see what they do. I'm excited. I'm actually legitimately excited. I'm so excited for football
- 43:40See, I'm really glad I introduced you to the NFL just now. Thank God because I'm not tuned into this
- 43:46national
- 43:48Football you call it football. I'm so glad that we're actual friends so that you know, I'm not a fucking asshole
- 43:53That was insane. You knew what I meant. Could you man explain me what this sport is?
- 43:58Please
- 44:00Football was soccer. Oh boy. Thank you. Thank God. I'm here for what actually that'd be a great title for a
- 44:06Podcast for you. Well, man, splaining woman's winning woman's planning sports. That is what I do
- 44:13So just just a great idea
- 44:16Crazily, I wasn't actually asking you that it did sound like Cody. Have you ever watched fucking?
- 44:21I
- 44:30Don't know if you watch the NFL
- 44:37Everything's great. I'm gonna let you take this one. Uh, I will I will
- 44:42introduce it and then I'm gonna let you go on a little bit of a roll because you've been on top of this since
- 44:48We've started this show talking about how this might be coming
- 44:51The MLB has proposed a salary cap and a salary floor in their latest CBA
- 44:57negotiations with the Players Union
- 45:00specifically the league is proposing a salary cap including benefits expenses of
- 45:07245 point three million a salary floor of
- 45:11171 point two million a 5050 revenue split between clubs and players and
- 45:15Local revenues would be centralized and also shared equally
- 45:20so
- 45:22Question one before we start anything. Yeah, I initially read this at first going
- 45:26So this is the salary floor
- 45:27but is there a difference in a salary floor of what the salaries will be or is that money actually included with the
- 45:35benefits and expenses
- 45:37To including that so what is the salary floor actually a hundred and fifty million and there's benefits that get added upon it
- 45:45That equal like 20 million dollars. Well, it doesn't matter. I guess not. Yeah, but
- 45:51That alone. Yeah is
- 45:54Stupid. Okay, and a problem. Okay, and will only cause problems and it's already making this confusing but
- 46:01Let's talking but but let's just ignore that. Okay, forget all of that. Let's just say it's we're just going with the whole
- 46:0670 171 point two million dollars of the floor. Okay, that's a great floor
- 46:10I
- 46:11Would love to just find out why you came up with this number, especially because the cap being at two hundred and forty five million
- 46:17point three dollars
- 46:19Okay, so
- 46:22We have leagues that have salary caps, correct? Yeah, that's cool
- 46:25So we have like a base and model that technically works. Absolutely in the NBA. That's an ironclad thing
- 46:32There's no problems in the NBA that they're trying to fix due to financials, correct?
- 46:36With the salary gap, yeah, well, you know like there's not like certain teams like tanking or anything
- 46:44No, no, no, yeah, we didn't just talk about how the NBA is trying to fix just me just I'm asking because
- 46:50How about this? This is really great because if the salary floor is
- 46:5467% of the cap
- 46:56That's got to be really good. And let me just look at that one salary cap league that we were talking about the NBA
- 47:01Yeah
- 47:03So they must spend the same amount I mean it sucks about the tanking thing
- 47:06Yeah, but if they're spending at least 70 at least 67 percent of the cap
- 47:12The like I guess I guess that's fine, right? So what what does the NBA pay and the floor?
- 47:1990 Oh 90 percent of the cap, but they have a tanking issue, right?
- 47:23But they pain every team even the worst teams the ones that are tanking pay 90 percent of the cap, correct?
- 47:30Huh?
- 47:32What about the NFL they have a cap how much of the cap do they pay as the floor 90% 90%
- 47:38So where the fuck did this?
- 47:4167% come from just for starters just for fucking starters. I'll tell you where it came from
- 47:47It came from all of them teams that currently
- 47:51Claim poverty. Oh the small market
- 47:54We can't spend that they will never sign up to have to spend as much as the Dodgers and the Yankees and
- 48:02The Red Sox and the Phillies. Well, listen, I saw someone say that Major League Baseball is losing billions of dollars every year
- 48:08And I believe them because they have opened their books and showed us this mathematical financials
- 48:13And you know what the World Series last year didn't have a moment Major League Baseball isn't more profitable now than it's ever been
- 48:19They didn't just sign a huge TV deal for the three years coming up in this next little go-around
- 48:24No, then they're losing money because they told us so and the
- 48:31Embarrassment of people on social media, especially you media people carrying the weight and water of this
- 48:36Nobody carries the water of the league more than baseball people. I don't know why in
- 48:41Barrett well, maybe the and by the way
- 48:43I saw one guy even say like you nailed this players got to get on board their first proposal. They nailed
- 48:50None of it makes sense. None of it
- 48:53Also, if you're gonna propose a revenue sharing split of 50-50 cool
- 48:58That means you're opening up your books then right?
- 49:01Right. What don't they have a current revenue share right now?
- 49:03They do but if you're gonna do a 50-50 you're gonna open up your books, right?
- 49:08right
- 49:10Because how will I know what the revenue is? Are they opening up their books?
- 49:14That's the big question around the NBA the same the question that also exists in the NBA around their books as well guys
- 49:20Stop carrying weight in water for millionaires. Stop it. This is this is this is a non-starter
- 49:25Also, there's no they don't address. I don't know if you saw anything, but did they address what they would do with?
- 49:31Pre-existing contract my knowledge. No to my knowledge. No, but and by the way, I really thought it was embarrassing
- 49:37And this this is actually the thing that pissed me off because so many people were just showing their ass right out the gate
- 49:40They're like and yeah, these six teams are over the limit. There's like 14 under. Yeah
- 49:49They are telling you to your face that every team can afford this
- 49:53171 point two million. There's no telling you to your face what they can. Yeah right now
- 49:59nine teams would be would likely be over the proposed cat figure this season and
- 50:06Not all of them are good. And by the way, I just want to make this abundantly clear
- 50:09I did see one tweet that I do understand and I do understand it on the surface
- 50:14But I need people to really understand the difference and I understand what this guy was saying
- 50:18I truly do because he's looking at as a baseball fan perspective and I do get this. This is the argument I get
- 50:26Who are you guys? Oh great guys
- 50:28Who are you rooting for the billionaires of the millionaires and I understand that as a fan writing that out
- 50:34I actually in 2026. I actually don't actually you know what I you're right. That's fucking stupid a couple years ago
- 50:40I wouldn't have now. I'm fucking exhausted. No, that's really let's just break down and I've done this on this show
- 50:46I'm doing this on every show I possibly can do for the rest of my life because I need you to understand what a fucking
- 50:51Billion is you need to understand what a billion is you need to understand what what?
- 50:56Billion is and this drives me insane
- 50:58We'll just figure it out on something that we can all understand and that is time a billion seconds to a million seconds
- 51:07Teams are worth billions and billions of dollars
- 51:09The Lakers just sold for ten billion dollars San Diego Padres just sold for like four or five billion dollars
- 51:15San Diego Padres that small market team in San Diego just sold for like four billion dollars
- 51:22four billion dollars
- 51:24billion in seconds to a million seconds a million seconds Tanya
- 51:29Do you know how long that is? I don't tell me Cody eleven point seven days
- 51:32Okay, do you know how long a billion seconds is I do not thirty seven years
- 51:38Understand what the fuck we're talking about
- 51:42billions millions
- 51:4417 days
- 51:4637 years that's not billions. That's one. Oh, no one million dollars is
- 51:52worth seven eleven point seven days
- 51:5737 years
- 51:58Why do billionaires collect hold on and hoard their money more than anyone else?
- 52:02Why are they more worried of losing money than anyone else in the world?
- 52:0637 years if they gave away a dollar every
- 52:10second the
- 52:12Basically a billion dollars is a billion dollars more than a million that is
- 52:24One billion dollars more than a million that is the difference
- 52:28There are not comparable and the idea in
- 52:312026 of understanding that they that billionaires are oligarchs the amount of power that they hold in in their hands and
- 52:39Comparing it to somebody who is worth a hundred million dollars
- 52:42You have a calculator Cody just explained it to you
- 52:46I just explained to you millionaires versus billionaires is like saying it's like making a joke out of millionaires versus somebody on welfare
- 52:54They are so far apart that you're just being an obtuse asshole at this point
- 52:59If you don't know the difference
- 53:00I will always every single time without fail root for millionaires over
- 53:06Billionaires and I will remind you that a lot of people within the MLB also the NFL are not millionaires
- 53:12They are people who are feeding that system who never make millions Cody played professional baseball
- 53:19Never made millions. Sorry to open the books on you Cody. Nope accurate
- 53:23You know, like there are so many NFL players who will have three-year careers who do not
- 53:29Remain millionaires who are making league minimums that will be gone
- 53:33That they can't even afford that housing come on guys
- 53:37Like don't be this fucking obtuse if you are not smart enough to not root for millionaires over billionaires at this point
- 53:43Especially when they are the workforce that drives every single thing about these billionaires
- 53:49Investments you are a fucking bootlicker
- 53:53I'm just I'm baffled by how little people know about all this. I'm baffled by how many people just just
- 54:00The the fact that people just automatically
- 54:03Defend billionaires is so alien to me, especially when everything bad about their life is because of billionaires. I
- 54:10Just can't like are you gonna defend the oil billionaire? Like I'll give you an example
- 54:16These are the people that I deal with on Twitter. This is like I'll read this to you
- 54:19Can you read TV revenue sharing evens the playing field? That's why Green Bay. That's why Green Bay can win. Damn. You are ignorant
- 54:27Can you that's not what
- 54:29I'm surrounded by I'm surrounded by fucking idiots. Yeah, I'm surrounded like that's
- 54:34I'm surrounded by fucking idiots. I do this is idiots. These are you're all idiots
- 54:38I know my mom and is dying right now because this is all I do is I'm like
- 54:42Listen to this asshole, and I just read these like I'm in bed. I'm surrounded by fucking idiots guys. No
- 54:49You guys wonder why I'm losing my mind. I don't wonder because I'm in it with you, dude
- 54:53That's why we're on this podcast just sort of losing our mind slowly at the same time. Why why are sports fans?
- 54:58So fucking stupid
- 54:59well, it's it's sort of an America problem and it just like
- 55:03Sports are a microcosm of the bigger issue
- 55:05Like I just I'm so exhausted and so tired
- 55:09You know what?
- 55:09There was one really really really and by the way does just so we're all clear spending money definitely correlates to winning championships, right?
- 55:16Can you can you name the teams that are in the top six that are not allowed?
- 55:19Because right now the Mets are the worst team in baseball the Phillies just got back to 500 the Toronto Blue Jays are under 500
- 55:27The Cubs are on a 10-game losing streak. So exactly
- 55:31Exactly. What does spending money correlate to winning? I want to quote something right here the former Mets GM
- 55:37And he was the he wasn't the full-time GM. He was the interim GM for a while there. His name is Zack Scott
- 55:44He wrote out in a few tweets a very good breakdown of this and
- 55:48Hearing an ex-GM kind of actually say this out loud is kind of refreshing
- 55:54He doesn't go into super details, but I do like how he does after 20 years of
- 55:58Inside MLB front offices here are five C seasons of data that about the salary cap to date
- 56:04Payroll explains about one-third of why a team actually wins the other two-thirds is part of a cap conversation
- 56:12Is the part the cap conversation isn't actually about and he writes in disclosure
- 56:16I I came in not a fan of the cap pitch
- 56:19He goes on to say the data every MLB team's tax payroll versus winning percentage five seasons
- 56:252022 to 2026 this correlation lands to at
- 56:310.57 r-squared
- 56:33Plain English about a third of winning correlates with spending your money about one-third the other two-thirds
- 56:40100% has nothing to do with your spending
- 56:43So what makes up the other two-thirds four buckets roughly in in this order of impact?
- 56:49acquisition scouting draft trade
- 56:53signings
- 56:54Development is huge turning B prospects into major leaguers governance owner alignment
- 57:00who's in the room how much runway baseball ops gets and of course last luck a
- 57:07Cap changes who's allowed to spend it doesn't change the other two-thirds of the actual equation if owners are selling this as a
- 57:16Compensated competitive balance the data doesn't support this pitch. So what's this cap?
- 57:23conversation
- 57:24Actually about yes
- 57:27Correct question. What's it actually about?
- 57:30It's about making billionaires and their corporate hedge funds that they are owned by
- 57:35More fucking money and getting players
- 57:39Paid less money and getting you to be dumb enough to go along with it
- 57:46That's what they're banking on. I'm banking that you will all learn and
- 57:52Meanwhile the NFL
- 57:56Notable cap hit League
- 57:59notable salary cap League
- 58:01saw
- 58:02The Chiefs in five of six Super Bowls in a six-year span
- 58:08The Patriots repeatedly were in three of four Super Bowls in four or five years
- 58:12But the Dodgers go to two World Series and everyone's freaking the fuck out
- 58:16the the NBA has is
- 58:20known for their
- 58:22Dynasties Major League Baseball's had more parity in their world championships than any other major sport
- 58:30Period and those three other major sports are all salary cap leagues
- 58:35So what the fuck are any of you talking about there?
- 58:39Yeah, those MLB billionaires are jealous of the NFL and NBA billionaires. They want their cut of the pie
- 58:46And this is what it's always been about and by the way if they're losing so much money
- 58:53Why are teams selling for more money? Why are more people buying teams to a losing?
- 58:59Organization that's not what people with a lot of money do so either
- 59:04It's the same bullshit that they were trying to sell us about the WNBA the WNBA is not profitable
- 59:08It is oh except suddenly everybody wants to own a WNBA team and they're sinking billions in the WNBA
- 59:13You guys think that these people are fucking honest about their books
- 59:17But you know for goddamn sure that every single billionaire on the planet is lying
- 59:22They don't even pay taxes let alone tell us open up their books majorly fucking real
- 59:28Baseball isn't subject to antitrust laws like they make their own
- 59:33like
- 59:37Did anyone take
- 59:39Any government classes in college? No, they just are they're just always going to look
- 59:44I'll tell you what the problem is though. They're gonna look at a workforce like the ML even the MLB
- 59:49Which is very white compared to the NBA in the NFL. They look at these workforces and they say
- 59:55Why are those brown people black people Dominican people Puerto Rican people making so much money
- 1:00:01I'll tell you that I'm telling you right now because you know what you don't hear. You know what you don't hear whatever
- 1:00:06What's that people complaining about hockey contracts?
- 1:00:09No, you ever heard somebody complain about a hockey contract in your life
- 1:00:12No ever once ever once in your their salary cap to right
- 1:00:16But why isn't anybody ever complaining that those millionaires are negotiating for more money? Not sure
- 1:00:23Because I thought I grew up in Boston and I can tell you right now
- 1:00:27It has never fucking happened one single fucking time ever
- 1:00:32Interesting not one single fucking time as somebody been like, I don't know
- 1:00:36It seems like Sidney Crosby's being a little bit greedy. They don't fucking care
- 1:00:40That's a white ass league with white ass people watching it and they love for their players to get paid
- 1:00:45But when it comes to a league full of Dominican and Puerto Rican players
- 1:00:49South American players when it comes to a league full of bat black players
- 1:00:52Oh suddenly, we don't want the millionaires to be making their money
- 1:00:56I'm just gonna say just so we're clear just as an insider from a from from a hockey viewing city
- 1:01:03No one's ever been worried. What one of their star players is being fucking paid. Okay?
- 1:01:11Listen this is this is going to be awful
- 1:01:15Do you think that the players will get will give up? No, I
- 1:01:22Want to make this is gonna be a lot. I want to make this about right clear and maybe maybe
- 1:01:26Something has changed. Yeah, I've left. I don't think I don't think it has
- 1:01:30When I say that it we don't it wasn't in our bylaws to say the least but I will say
- 1:01:37There's one rule for the set for the Major League Baseball Players Association. Just literally one
- 1:01:42We will never agree to a salary gap. That is literally rule one. That is like step one
- 1:01:46It's never gonna happen never gonna fucking happen. You start any conversation with that the conversation doesn't start
- 1:01:50Go ahead lock out the league Major League Baseball is doing better
- 1:01:54This is the other thing that I think we all listen. I
- 1:01:57Give Rob Manfred flowers when he deserves it and I do think there are many times when he does
- 1:02:02He's certainly not the worst commissioner. He's not even close
- 1:02:04In fact, I really think and I'm and I'm the best commissioner of the four. Can I say this right now?
- 1:02:09I would say Rob Manfred has been a drastic net positive for baseball and it at where it is right now
- 1:02:14I've truly believed that and I
- 1:02:16Boy over but ceiling. Oh
- 1:02:22But I'm just saying he's had many issues and he's done a lot of great things as well and I've gotten to know
- 1:02:29Rob Manfred a little and my interactions with him have honest to God been really lovely
- 1:02:35Like I've gotten along with them really well, by the way, people say Roger Goodell is a really nice guy, too
- 1:02:39It's funny. I've only met him once
- 1:02:41Yeah, they're nice enough, but I will say although I think Adams lovers kind of scary
- 1:02:45But Rob Manfred going on Pat McAfee and saying how it's not a sustainable business model. Mm-hmm
- 1:02:52Well, he was talking wasn't he talking about the TV?
- 1:02:54He was first talking about how the the discrepancies of a 400 million dollar payroll to a 75 million dollar payroll
- 1:02:59He's like that's just not a sustainable business model. It's been the model
- 1:03:04Yeah, it is, you know how I know it's a sustainable business model because Major League Baseball has never been more popular than it is
- 1:03:10Right now we just had 51 million people watch the game seven of the World Series
- 1:03:14Baseball is in the midst of a boom and you're gonna go on national TV saying we just can't sustain this is
- 1:03:20Fucking just disingenuous to the nth degree
- 1:03:23but there I mean this is and this is really where I what I want to make sure people know from this segment is
- 1:03:30It will shock you if the players are even willing to enter into conversation about this specific by the way, by the way
- 1:03:35So people like I what what is the players associations counter proposed gonna be are they gonna take in the cap?
- 1:03:40No, you do know that they have they don't have to even acknowledge that they sent them the cap
- 1:03:45This is not like the beginning of we're starting here. No, this is a non-starter. You know, CBA
- 1:03:50So the CBA is up after this season, right? Yeah, right after December 1st, it's over
- 1:03:56You know what, I hope it was gonna happen
- 1:03:58I knew this is no human way. This was gonna happen, but I hope I wanted it to happen in a pie-in-the-sky world
- 1:04:03I wanted them just to sign an extension to the current CBA for three years
- 1:04:07You know why I wanted that to happen. It's no of course. It's not gonna happen. That's a fucking that's a great idea
- 1:04:12That would actually help baseball in a very good moment what they're having the reason why it's not going to happen is
- 1:04:18Because that's when the TV contract comes. Yeah, and that's what this is really all about
- 1:04:24They want to get a salary every CBA they want to get this salary cap in right now because in three years when Major League Baseball
- 1:04:32created a big
- 1:04:33TV discrepancy problem and then signed a three-year deal with all these companies that was
- 1:04:37Seemingly really mutually beneficial to everyone like they could have done it from day one
- 1:04:41But it ends in three years
- 1:04:43then they get to sign a mega deal with someone like Apple Apple TV Plus or Netflix covers all of Major League Baseball for
- 1:04:51Ten billion dollars and guess who doesn't get any of that fucking money. Mm-hmm. That's what this is about
- 1:04:58That's what I firmly believe. This is about well, I
- 1:05:02Firmly believe that there's no chance that the players union accepts a salary cap
- 1:05:07They this I mean that player you know, I have no
- 1:05:12Leverage like I don't think the league has the kind of leverage that they think they have
- 1:05:16You guys are the ones who finally got your league a little bit of popularity
- 1:05:21the players are not you think these players want to be among the generation of players that after
- 1:05:27130 years gave away a salary of
- 1:05:31The only unsalary cap league you think these people want that on their fucking?
- 1:05:36Absolutely, not you have been functioning like this quite literally since the 1800s
- 1:05:41I would be I would know how about this. I'll make this abundantly clear. I'll be very
- 1:05:45Very disappointed
- 1:05:47Disappointed I will stop watching baseball. I'll be very good you gutless losers
- 1:05:50I like you guys we have spent a hun we have spent nearly a hundred years
- 1:05:56Creating the the first and only strong player Union. Yeah, the only one
- 1:06:03This is this is the year they can actually break it. Yeah, it's literally it if if you give up now
- 1:06:11It's over and that's
- 1:06:13Yeah
- 1:06:15By the way, it will come to that it will come to a lockout
- 1:06:18It will you like if you want to hold on to your salary cap, it will come to a lockout
- 1:06:21They are very very dug their heels in you've been predicting this that they're gonna dig their heels in
- 1:06:26You're going to have to dig your heels. It's going to happen
- 1:06:28And unfortunately, they're all gonna kill the golden goose of what we have right now
- 1:06:31Which is the single best version of Major League Baseball. We've ever had. Yeah, and you know it I
- 1:06:40don't know what to say other than
- 1:06:42It breaks my heart. I hope I hope somehow cooler heads can prevail. I don't see a world where it does
- 1:06:48Yeah, the end don't know what to say
- 1:06:51this sucks
- 1:06:53Good luck everybody
- 1:06:55Everything is great
- 1:06:57We have a we're gonna go over to media corner great. This is uh, this is just kind of a fun little exercise
- 1:07:03I'm gonna put you through Cody. We're gonna put it each other through it. Um, I have a graphic for you
- 1:07:08And we're gonna pull that up and I'm gonna I'm gonna show you nine people in sports media
- 1:07:13This has been circulating the internet
- 1:07:16And you have seen it. Okay good and
- 1:07:19You in in this exercise you are allowed to choose two of these mics to turn off forever
- 1:07:25We're gonna fix sports media by turning these mics off forever. Now, here you go up on the screen. These are the nine
- 1:07:32Men of course good men
- 1:07:37Men's doing a lot of heavy lifting for a couple of these. Yeah, these nine Jason with men allegedly have nine people wearing
- 1:07:44Ties, okay, whatever. Um and and you can choose from this group to turn off two mics forever
- 1:07:51It's gonna help us fix sports media. Okay. Um, yeah, so do you just wanted to pick my two or well
- 1:07:58what I want to do is kind of kind of go through with you and
- 1:08:02Let's eliminate a couple of people on here be from even being part of this conversation
- 1:08:08All right, let's go ahead and start with that Colin coward is fine. I don't have an issue
- 1:08:11We know coward is I worked with coward. I like Howard. You can reason with coward. He's fine. He's fine
- 1:08:16I have no issue with Kendrick Perkins whatsoever. Kendrick Perkins one of the nicest people I've ever met
- 1:08:24Very sweet he works hard
- 1:08:25I think we need to learn how to distinguish you don't like their takes from I need to turn their mind by the way
- 1:08:32There's a lot of people on the I think a lot sometimes people will put people on this list where it's like
- 1:08:36I don't like their takes and it's like that's a different thing than them acting in bad faith. So can we agree?
- 1:08:41We're not considering not an issue. I'm not keeping Nick right like Nick, right?
- 1:08:46Absolutely does not belong in this Nick right really should not be on this and Chris Collins worth. I
- 1:08:51I'm actually why is he on this one? I don't well, so people hate Chris Collins worth. I'm not gonna lie
- 1:08:55I'm kind of a Chris Collins worth fan. Okay. Yeah, I don't I actually like
- 1:08:59Me in this listen, I am so he has a big hate campaign on the internet people hate Chris Collins
- 1:09:04He's a big Mahomes glazer. Like this guy. Why he calls her homes is bad or something
- 1:09:09No, no, because he's no to be fair. He literally compares everyone to Patrick Mahomes. It no matter what game he's calling
- 1:09:19I guess he does do that. Yes, he does it a lot. But I will say I think he's like I think he's
- 1:09:25Nostalgic and funny and like I he doesn't bother me. He just simply doesn't bother me the way he bothers other people
- 1:09:29So, all right, so we've eliminated
- 1:09:31Perkins coward Collins worth and Nick right from this conversation. They don't belong in it
- 1:09:36You know what? I'm even and you might not I'm a pat back. I'm fine with I'm yeah
- 1:09:42Listen, I I understand the undertones that bother a lot of people about Pat
- 1:09:48I've never been bothered by Pat
- 1:09:51I've always actually I'll I don't but the other thing is and this is true and this is not me saying I've never watched
- 1:09:56Pat's show or his work other than like clips that are posted
- 1:09:59Yeah, and every time I've been and I've gotten to know Pat a little every time we're out Pat. I've really liked them
- 1:10:05He's like he's been nice to me. I've been nice to him. I mean listen
- 1:10:11When it comes to Pat McAfee, I don't think I I don't think he's always acting in good faith
- 1:10:17No, I will say that I don't
- 1:10:20There he he's sort of got a worse version of him on this list in Dave Portnoy
- 1:10:25Like if you're gonna go after the like sort of mega coded white guy
- 1:10:30Pat's not the worst one and we we kind of talked about this in the preseason in the preseason in the pre-show meeting
- 1:10:38This this leaves us. Okay with the skip Stephen a Dave Portnoy and Jason. So do me a favor
- 1:10:44Can you throw that graphic back up one more time? I think it's important to be see faces. Okay
- 1:10:50I just I need to eventually cut this into a clip and I cannot cut it. Okay, well go ahead and pull that down
- 1:10:55No, thank you. So I'm gonna pull I'm gonna I'm gonna pull skip Bayless off this list. Okay, I'm down with that
- 1:11:00You know, I yeah, he's fucking irrelevant. So that's the reason I'm gonna pull Jason Whitlock off
- 1:11:05It's the same reason I'm pulling Jason Whitlock off of this. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, here are my picks
- 1:11:10Stephen a Smith fucking cut his mic get fucking sent him to Mars fucking worthless waste of our space waste of our breath
- 1:11:16I the less we talk about him the better. Yeah, he's an obvious one. And yes, it's part of it personal. Yeah, fuck you
- 1:11:24That being said, yeah, Dave Portnoy Dave Portnoy also and here's why and this is my reasoning for it and
- 1:11:35Why the fuck does Dave Portnoy have a mic to begin with I work in sports I play professional baseball for 11 years
- 1:11:42I dedicated my life to it. I
- 1:11:45Highly educated in my sport and all sports I have been working my ass off in the
- 1:11:51journalistic space and the fucking radio space and the television space and I've worked
- 1:11:56in sports at a high level now for
- 1:12:0121 years
- 1:12:04Dave Portnoy
- 1:12:05has
- 1:12:07No fucking idea about sports in any way shape or form. He's never been a part of sports
- 1:12:13He doesn't know anything about sports
- 1:12:14He's never made a take on sports that makes a semblance of sense outside of a drunkard
- 1:12:19Out of sight of a bar eating a slice of pizza that he found on the sidewalk
- 1:12:25There is literally no reason to listen to him about and I mean this
- 1:12:30Fucking anything and the fact that he's even in this industry or anyone that works under it like all those barstool guys
- 1:12:36Yeah, why the fuck does anyone listen to any of them?
- 1:12:40Like I I don't get it it make my fucking am I taking crazy pills? No, I mean you're not taking crazy pills
- 1:12:45We know what that they're they're a like bro culture sort of deal, right? But to your point, I'm just
- 1:12:53Last time anybody talked about Dave Portnoy's sports takes. He's not a sports take guy
- 1:12:58He's never been a sports take guy. In fact, I would venture to say that regardless of how you feel about
- 1:13:06Pat McAfee or
- 1:13:08Jason Whitlock even or Stephen a Smith, right?
- 1:13:14Insult to all of them to even include Dave Portnoy here
- 1:13:19Actually does not talk say what you will about Jason Whitlock who you and I both despise spies. I
- 1:13:26Really really I'm uncomfortable with Jason. Well, he's gentle. You're you're so fucking gross
- 1:13:32It's beyond it's beyond the like Stephen a Smith of it all
- 1:13:36Really really, so, you know, I don't want to make this abundantly clear. I hate Stephen a Smith. Yeah, it's really do I'll take to
- 1:13:48I don't hear anything you say, but you're a gross fat at the very least
- 1:13:52He's been talking about sports for the last couple of decades. Yeah, I know where he stands on to his credit
- 1:13:59He's worked in sports in a semblance. I don't right Dave Portnoy's just a
- 1:14:04Fucking short Bostonian with hair plugs and that's literally it that's that I know him more for that than I do sports
- 1:14:10I can't when I tell you I cannot think of a single sports take of his that's ever stuck in my mind now
- 1:14:16Whitlock who I don't like or some of these other people at least I remember some of their sports takes because they are memorable in
- 1:14:22Any way shape or I don't like even a Smith in anything
- 1:14:25He does but Stephen a Smith has worked in sports and at one point was almost respected, right?
- 1:14:30So like that is that's part of this equation for me, too
- 1:14:34So I when I went through all of this and I I mean I I realized it looks kind of funny that I am in
- 1:14:39immediately eliminated people I worked with for years but like fact the matter is I worked at a
- 1:14:44Place where I really did respect coward and Nick, right?
- 1:14:47But I also landed on Stephen a Smith mostly because like we've heard enough
- 1:14:52I think Stephen a Smith has talked enough for four lifetimes. We're done. We're good
- 1:14:56Everything he needs to say I'm done and Dave Portnoy is useless and he is loud and I don't like it
- 1:15:04So no, but useless is the best possible word and and that's the thing is like he's not even a good
- 1:15:12Villain right like he's not even a good villain in the sports space like Whitlock will be on out kick saying something
- 1:15:20really like
- 1:15:21homophobic or like
- 1:15:23Racist right and at least we're like this guy's just a fucking villain
- 1:15:29Portnoy is
- 1:15:30Like he can't even form a coherent sentence. I don't know if he got a degree or not
- 1:15:35Can I be honest?
- 1:15:36I I don't understand why poor noise on this list that like that's honest
- 1:15:39Like this is a list of sportscasters and a poor so like which is kind of an example of like his it like I don't
- 1:15:46Know where he came from or why he is relevant and that's kind of like it sort of sums it up
- 1:15:51yeah, like it's just it's just I
- 1:15:54Don't understand it's like it you're and I'm asking the square and I really like it really does bother me to see him next to
- 1:16:00Like Nick Wright and Colin Coward
- 1:16:04I'll go step forward. I think I don't like that. He's even a next to Stephen a Smith exactly
- 1:16:09No, I don't like Stephen a Smith, but like our audience knows that
- 1:16:16I can't stress enough
- 1:16:19No, no, no, no, they both suck, but come on one sucks
- 1:16:24All right, so we turned off Dave Portnoy and Stephen a Smith's mics forever. We fixed sports media for oh, no, we didn't
- 1:16:30No, we didn't do that. No, if we had done that we would yeah
- 1:16:33We'd there'd be a few more people to come for but for now, that was a fun little exercise
- 1:16:38We made we don't normally have a very light segment or like a fun sort of silly segment in media corner
- 1:16:45I'm glad we had a moment where we got to not talk about CBA shit and the darkness of billionaires and how they're ruining
- 1:16:52And all of your lives, but some of you
- 1:16:56Seemingly are okay with that and want them to ruin it more for some reason
- 1:16:59You know what? The thing is going back to the CBA. Oh my god. Have we not talked?
- 1:17:03No, I just think it's really important because everyone's like I've also seen other amazing takes like I want it to be affordable to take
- 1:17:10my kids
- 1:17:12Because show you Tony's got a contract is not why this is not affordable like
- 1:17:18Why are you what like at this point? It's a choice to be this stupid. It's like a decision
- 1:17:23You've made a decision that you're going to be stupid. That's a that's a choice
- 1:17:29Okay, originally this story was not in the rundown. I
- 1:17:33Added it. It's a choice. Mocha. Why are people choosing?
- 1:17:38It's weird we are 15 minutes over
- 1:17:47You're not wrong Cody, you're not wrong. You're not wrong full-on choice. All right, let's uh, let's hit pop culture corner before we go. Oh good
- 1:17:54Everything's fine. This is actually great
- 1:17:57This is interesting
- 1:17:59Pop culture corner we get to talk about the increasingly insane discourse online of people comparing
- 1:18:06Modern music artists and their fame to Michael Jackson because Michael Jackson's biopic has come out
- 1:18:12there's been a lot of conversation around Michael Jackson's fame and just how obviously how impactful he has been and
- 1:18:19Because of that sort of coinciding with Drake deciding to drop three albums at once
- 1:18:25there's a lot of conversation around Drake right now because he's
- 1:18:29There the fans are trying to compare him to Kendrick the whole deal
- 1:18:32He just surpassed Michael Jackson in some sort of number one billboard thing and all of his fans are like see
- 1:18:39He's bigger than Michael Jackson
- 1:18:41Now this has repeatedly be been a thing that happens where it's like
- 1:18:45Some people will say Beyonce's more famous than Michael Jackson or Drake's more famous than Michael Jackson or Britney Spears is more famous than Michael
- 1:18:51Jackson or Taylor Swift is more famous than Michael Jackson and I want to be
- 1:18:56Incredibly clear Cody. Yes
- 1:18:59There will never be an American music artist
- 1:19:04More famous than Michael Jackson. It will
- 1:19:08Never happen and I'm gonna tell you why I'm listening. I by the way, I want to make it this abundantly. Oh god
- 1:19:15Yes, I agree and I will I will tell you my reason why after as well
- 1:19:19But I'm wondering if your reasoning will be the same as mine. We'll see
- 1:19:24There was a very
- 1:19:26Specific moment in time and this is why both Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan are talked about in a very specific
- 1:19:33way now
- 1:19:35And it why it's so hard to compare other people to them from
- 1:19:40the beginning of night so from about
- 1:19:431980
- 1:19:44Through the 1990s where they were at the very peak of their adult fame
- 1:19:50Cable and the internet
- 1:19:53happened at
- 1:19:54In concurrent timelines cable hit us in like 1979 or whatever. It was we had CNN we had MTV
- 1:20:01cable happens changes the entire
- 1:20:04Entertainment landscape and what enters into your home?
- 1:20:07Yes
- 1:20:08it does then the internet hits us in in the 90s and that starts giving us even more access and
- 1:20:14But it is before social media. Yeah, I would say the internet
- 1:20:18Really took off and then I'd say what mid
- 1:20:222000s to 2010 social media begins
- 1:20:25So so we're talking about the prime of no social media
- 1:20:30Very little internet, but it's just started to form just enough that we can start to share. We're not into music sharing yet
- 1:20:36We're not into music at the time. It was it was it was electronic mail. We're in traditional
- 1:20:42media, but cable has just exploded and
- 1:20:45The people who were famous at the time that happened were suddenly
- 1:20:51You could be in everybody's home their TVs and
- 1:20:56There was this visual medium of music videos. There was this visual medium of
- 1:21:01NBA games being able to actually be broadcast into your homes outside of your network all these things right
- 1:21:07Highlights on ESPN those two things made people like
- 1:21:12Have the level of fame that we we can't relate to anymore. There was no there was no media saturation of
- 1:21:19Everybody that we have now there weren't people there was no ability to just become famous
- 1:21:25Through social media or the internet and there was no there wasn't the complete
- 1:21:30Disconnection of the newspaper age and the media age and the internet age
- 1:21:36And there was no there wasn't the complete
- 1:21:40Disconnection of the newspaper age and like this just the movies, right?
- 1:21:44We had this perfect portal the perfect moment in time where you could become a global
- 1:21:50superstar, but you were still
- 1:21:52It still required you to use an old
- 1:21:55Media tradition of in terms of the way you got to your fame very much
- 1:22:00So we're talking about Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan is two of the most famous people
- 1:22:04That like get treated as though we actually can't really surpass them in terms of success or fame
- 1:22:10And that's for a reason because know that their ability to reach
- 1:22:15Global superstardom at a time where it was difficult to become famous is a moment in time. We can't read we can't
- 1:22:24We can't reenact right? Yeah
- 1:22:27Can I I'll give you my reasoning and it's along the same lines everything you said is absolutely, right
- 1:22:32I'm just gonna look at this practically
- 1:22:33So like when you see that Drake's got like the number most number ones of all time
- 1:22:37That's that's a there's an impracticality on what that actually it doesn't it doesn't it doesn't mean the same
- 1:22:41It doesn't mean the same thing as you know
- 1:22:43Because albums versus it's exactly the business model of music changed in the you have to actually be genuinely very
- 1:22:50very dense to believe that Drake you have to be an idiot, I mean like
- 1:22:55It it I understand that people have become anti-intellectual and they try to find the numbers like I don't know if they're too young
- 1:23:01There can they don't understand. There's no way you could ever believe that he has the level of success or fame of Michael
- 1:23:08I can't stress this enough the purchasing of a single now is
- 1:23:11ready-made on your phone ready to go and it just gets put in your phone or in your Spotify Jackson was in if this was
- 1:23:16Available Michael Jackson would it would it would be it's it's another level like you don't assume
- 1:23:21Like to listen to a Michael Jackson to listen to the song Thriller you have to buy the Thriller album to listen to
- 1:23:28The to you know, one of the songs on bad you had to buy the album bad people spent
- 1:23:34$20 at a time when $20 was really
- 1:23:37$40 for a CD of Michael Jackson and all of these artists to have full I still have
- 1:23:44400 CDs in a booklet
- 1:23:46I still have a ton of digital meat like actual physical media physical media was such a part of our lives
- 1:23:52It's Thriller if you could have just logged on to YouTube and Spotify and listen to and watched Thriller
- 1:24:00It would have been watched a
- 1:24:03Trillion times. Yes, it would have hit 1 trillion. They would have broken every record. I don't know what to say
- 1:24:09There's we don't have anything like we're just not talking about the same thing. And by the way, that's not a knock on Drake
- 1:24:15That's not like an anti-drake statement. This is just fucking fact
- 1:24:18It's like saying like the music industry is not what it was
- 1:24:21Like no NBA player will ever be as famous at his peak as Michael Jordan is not a knock to another me
- 1:24:27No, it's just that was the reality of the time
- 1:24:30It's the same thing when we talk about ratings and sports these days ratings
- 1:24:34Don't mark Cuban even went on TV the other day and said yeah, the ratings model doesn't matter to any of them. That's not
- 1:24:43Live ratings is not how we also to be getting that I will say it is a knock on Drake
- 1:24:47Just and I'll and I'll knock on Drake on this. Um, I mean Kendrick's better
- 1:24:51Kendrick's way better and also so is fucking Michael Jackson. You know what actually now hold on real quick
- 1:24:57Fuck anybody comparing Drake to Michael Jackson. Fuck off
- 1:25:07Listen listen, there's a couple Drake songs in my rotation. They're always gonna be
- 1:25:13Hotline bling's a jam
- 1:25:15There are a few in there that'll never leave my gym playlist. Thanks
- 1:25:20But Michael Jackson, he's Michael Jackson get the fuck out. You know what? Yeah Kendrick first
- 1:25:25We're comparing apples to Michael Jackson. We're comparing apples to Michael Jackson
- 1:25:31We can't do that. We can't be doing that. I'm just saying we can't do that. Everything's fine. Everything is fine
- 1:25:36But um, we can't get to Curt Schilling on Monday
- 1:25:42And you say that's not everything's fine that we should be able to get to Curt Schilling
- 1:25:46God damn it. Everything is fine. You were totally gonna put it on Monday's rundown and now I'm not gonna be here, huh?
- 1:25:51I don't have to talk about next Friday. Damn. Well until then
- 1:25:54Like share and subscribe and most importantly fuck you Curt Schilling. Fuck you Curt Schilling
