- 1:27Speaker 5: on this Monday before the National Championship game, which is
- 1:33Speaker 5: a week from tonight. I guess it's going to be
- 1:37Speaker 5: like the Super Bowl before long, we'll be moving in
- 1:39Speaker 5: into February for the February sweeps.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Indiana. Just isaacs Indiana.
- 1:48Speaker 6: Just uh Indiana.
- 1:51Speaker 5: I look at them and I just go this team
- 1:53Speaker 5: is unreal. I mean, I don't I hate hyperbole. Best ever,
- 1:59Speaker 5: this best this, that's that. I don't know if I've
- 2:01Speaker 5: ever seen a better coach college football team, let's put
- 2:05Speaker 5: it that way.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Not I agree with you. I mean, twenty nineteen LSU
- 2:11Speaker 2: is in terms of great talent, yeah, but I mean
- 2:14Speaker 2: this team. I mean Fernando Mendoza has five incompletions the
- 2:21Speaker 2: last two games.
- 2:22Speaker 3: He had five touchdown passes.
- 2:24Speaker 2: In the last game.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I mean, he's like a he's like a surgeon.
- 2:27Speaker 2: It's really phenomenal because he's not just throwing short passes.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I mean he's throwing intermediate and long pass He does
- 2:35Speaker 2: have time most of the time.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I will say that that line is amazing.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yes they are. This is the best that Mark Cuban Couldbye.
- 2:42Speaker 2: I mean Mark Cuban invested a lot of money in
- 2:45Speaker 2: that team and really, oh yeah, yes he did. He's
- 2:48Speaker 2: the lead donor.
- 2:49Speaker 6: That makes sense and some NFL teams can be glad.
- 2:53Speaker 5: There's apparently one other guy that they at Herb Street
- 2:56Speaker 5: I maybe have alluded to during the broadcast that's given
- 2:59Speaker 5: more than Cuban has.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, so they have a couple of next year. Yeah, absolutely,
- 3:05Speaker 2: money talks. Money does talk, but you still gotta Yeah,
- 3:08Speaker 2: but you got a coach man.
- 3:10Speaker 6: Two things, talent, the staff.
- 3:14Speaker 5: I mean, you know, these guys came up with him
- 3:18Speaker 5: in the smallest of schools college.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I love the postgame interview with Molly McGrath. He goes that,
- 3:25Speaker 2: you know, looking down the road, He goes, I don't
- 3:26Speaker 2: look around the road.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I want to go pop a cold beer. Yeah.
- 3:30Speaker 6: I love that.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Yeah, never smiles, No, no, he did smile.
- 3:35Speaker 3: The show didn't right right at the end, forty.
- 3:41Speaker 2: They were halfway to seventy. At the half, and he
- 3:43Speaker 2: was looking like he just he was so angry. He's
- 3:46Speaker 2: pacing sideline like he's about to tear somebody's head off. Yeah,
- 3:50Speaker 2: good luck Miami.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what I think. You know, the quarterback is
- 3:57Speaker 5: gonna have to be really good. And he was really
- 4:00Speaker 5: good in spurts to get Miami there.
- 4:02Speaker 2: He was really good in the stretch.
- 4:04Speaker 5: He made three outstanding throws in that fourth quarter, right,
- 4:08Speaker 5: and and you gotta have that, but I would.
- 4:11Speaker 2: His experience was on the screen.
- 4:12Speaker 5: It was it was and I and that quarterback shootout
- 4:17Speaker 5: with with with Ole miss uh that was. That was phenomenal.
- 4:23Speaker 5: Those two guys were just unbelievable in that semi final game.
- 4:27Speaker 6: And he's gonna have to be good because I don't
- 4:28Speaker 6: think Miami would win the coaching battle because still he
- 4:32Speaker 6: did some weird things into my Mississippi game. I thought
- 4:35Speaker 6: he asked him. So once again, is I gotta give
- 4:39Speaker 6: him credit? He is playing for a championship, and I
- 4:41Speaker 6: never thought that was possible, you.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Know, I didn't either.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Ticks me off. All the stuff that they allow and
- 4:47Speaker 2: then they denied another year.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I mean, what the heck.
- 4:50Speaker 6: Yeah, there's he's.
- 4:52Speaker 5: A pilling that one probably I got seven years, right, Yeah,
- 4:55Speaker 5: he played seven.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Becks played seven years. So I mean, I mean, these guys.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Are gonna have grandchildren before long. Yeah, no doubt.
- 5:03Speaker 6: I looked up the guard played against A and M
- 5:05Speaker 6: Nigel Pack.
- 5:07Speaker 5: I saw him introduce him, and I haven't paid enough attention.
- 5:10Speaker 3: I said this in the first hour in Oklahoma. I
- 5:12Speaker 3: went Nigel Pack was one hundred.
- 5:15Speaker 5: And four years old.
- 5:16Speaker 6: Played at Miami, he played.
- 5:17Speaker 3: He played at Kansas State. He was great early at
- 5:20Speaker 3: Kansas State.
- 5:21Speaker 5: He helped beat Texas and take Miami to the Final
- 5:24Speaker 5: four two years or three years ago.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I mean, this guy's been playing for refid.
- 5:29Speaker 6: He dropped thirty five on Kansas loss.
- 5:31Speaker 5: Oh, I know, but once again he almost dropped thirty
- 5:34Speaker 5: five on A and M on Saturday.
- 5:36Speaker 6: Talking about college athletes, we'll soon see nine to ten
- 5:39Speaker 6: year old guy. That ten year old guy.
- 5:40Speaker 2: I saw, I saw stat that the wide receiver for Miami,
- 5:44Speaker 2: Tony he was. Yes, he was eleven years old when
- 5:47Speaker 2: Carson Beck started college.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Holy smoked. He just turned.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Eighteen, right, exactly, He's supposed to be a senior in
- 5:54Speaker 2: high school. Exactly.
- 5:55Speaker 3: He's a man.
- 5:56Speaker 7: He is man.
- 5:57Speaker 3: We already knew that but he was eleven years old.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Carson stat, I mean, unbelievable.
- 6:04Speaker 3: That's a great stat that.
- 6:05Speaker 6: Is that is awesome, that that reminds me back in
- 6:09Speaker 6: the when I was growing up. I did grow up
- 6:11Speaker 6: one time and played the summer ball, like, you know,
- 6:14Speaker 6: summer leagues back in Pennsylvania. I never forgot when I
- 6:17Speaker 6: got out of school when I was eighteen, so I
- 6:19Speaker 6: played with the summer team in the first basement was
- 6:21Speaker 6: forty years old, and oh my god, I was twenty
- 6:24Speaker 6: years older than I am. You know, I mean, you
- 6:26Speaker 6: you just used to always playing people your own agent.
- 6:29Speaker 6: Right now you get to college, you're not playing some
- 6:31Speaker 6: guys your own age.
- 6:32Speaker 3: You're that's amazing, not anymore.
- 6:34Speaker 5: I somebody just to I think Dusty told me today
- 6:37Speaker 5: the average age of the Indiana team's twenty three.
- 6:41Speaker 2: They're like, they're like by us, Yeah.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Right, yeah, like twenty six, I think.
- 6:48Speaker 5: But still the point being, these these aren't boys, they're men.
- 6:52Speaker 3: They're men.
- 6:54Speaker 2: It's a huge difference too. I remember when my son
- 6:58Speaker 2: and Sees your son was probably on that team too.
- 7:00Speaker 2: They played on the first college station team that the
- 7:04Speaker 2: first game of the year. They were all freshman and sophomores,
- 7:07Speaker 2: and we went down to Showing Bird, remember, and we
- 7:10Speaker 2: played this you know two a team, but they were
- 7:13Speaker 2: to eight. They were eighteen years old versus our fifteen
- 7:17Speaker 2: year old and it was just like the.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Lone of scrimmage.
- 7:20Speaker 5: It was just man against boys and had a grandparent
- 7:23Speaker 5: growing up going all of these baseball tea balls, starting
- 7:26Speaker 5: at T ball and baseball. The other team always seems
- 7:29Speaker 5: to have players that are ten years older than kid.
- 7:32Speaker 5: Yeah right, yeah, they're all six feet tall, they're still
- 7:36Speaker 5: they're shaving, and you're going that guy, there's no way
- 7:39Speaker 5: that kid's ten years old exactly.
- 7:41Speaker 3: That's the way it is now. So yeah, right, yeah,
- 7:44Speaker 3: pretty soon one year olds playing ten year old.
- 7:47Speaker 2: You know, I think like you, I heard you say
- 7:50Speaker 2: that Indiana it should be you know, the inspiration forever,
- 7:54Speaker 2: but it certainly should be the inspiration from Texas A
- 7:56Speaker 2: and M. You know they they lost in the first
- 7:59Speaker 2: round last year, and look what they're doing the second.
- 8:02Speaker 3: I tell you what happens. Guys, you can.
- 8:05Speaker 5: I want you to comment on this because in my mind,
- 8:07Speaker 5: when a team like this rises up right from nowhere,
- 8:12Speaker 5: then one hundred and thirty six other fan bases are going, Hey,
- 8:16Speaker 5: it's freaking Indiana. They're not losing his program in history,
- 8:20Speaker 5: they're winning a national championship. We've been around forever, We've
- 8:24Speaker 5: thrown billions of dollars into this deal, and we can't
- 8:27Speaker 5: get a championship. We're not doing something right here, right,
- 8:30Speaker 5: you know that's gonna happen.
- 8:32Speaker 6: Without a doubt. It's gonna get more people fired.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Yes, because it will get more coach and.
- 8:36Speaker 6: Want to right now? Yes, And who wants to wait?
- 8:38Speaker 6: Indiana's doing in two years exactly, And I guarantee you
- 8:42Speaker 6: if and M takes a step back next year, people
- 8:44Speaker 6: are just gonna go, oh, there's.
- 8:45Speaker 3: No doubt about that, There's no question.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you're exactly right. So unfortunately, I think there's pressure
- 8:51Speaker 2: on Elko because you know, if they do take a
- 8:53Speaker 2: step back.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Well there's I mean there's pressure on every ad village coach.
- 8:57Speaker 2: But if they take a step back, it's gonna be
- 8:59Speaker 2: looking same. O' aggie's right.
- 9:02Speaker 6: But you're right, because they're fighting history. That's not fighting
- 9:04Speaker 6: everything else. You're fighting.
- 9:05Speaker 5: Well, I would argue that nobody had more history to
- 9:08Speaker 5: fight than Kurt Signetti.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right, I mean nobody. But but that's still
- 9:13Speaker 3: I consider that a basketball school.
- 9:14Speaker 6: How much different go out? You know, But he said
- 9:18Speaker 6: he was fighting. I don't think he was fighting his
- 9:20Speaker 6: big elephants in the A and M's room. You don't
- 9:23Speaker 6: because because they're a basketball school. I mean, they didn't
- 9:26Speaker 6: expect a national There's A and M fans have expected
- 9:29Speaker 6: the national championships since thirty nine here in football, all right,
- 9:33Speaker 6: I mean, you know, and they and each year.
- 9:35Speaker 5: I mean, you're right in the fact that they lost
- 9:37Speaker 5: so much that the fan base is like, yeah, you know,
- 9:40Speaker 5: another coach, so what right, I mean, they've seen it all.
- 9:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I can't believe Indiana was on anybody's radar. The
- 9:46Speaker 6: last team well, of course not, you know, but but
- 9:48Speaker 6: A and M. They moved to the SEC. They did
- 9:51Speaker 6: all these things to try to win.
- 9:53Speaker 2: So we heard and I've said it too. You know,
- 9:55Speaker 2: it's hard to be a team twice, right, first player
- 9:58Speaker 2: game Indiana boom, I'm like, okay, well there you go, man,
- 10:04Speaker 2: they're on the road.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Orton came right back. But then Indiana it's like the
- 10:08Speaker 3: knockout punts. Early it was thirty five.
- 10:11Speaker 5: But do you know what I've got to you know,
- 10:14Speaker 5: I got a confession because I, oh, yeah, I'd flip.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Over to an Indiana game.
- 10:20Speaker 5: I don't like Big ten football, you know that, but
- 10:22Speaker 5: I'd flip over to an Indiana game. As they just
- 10:25Speaker 5: continue to win and continue to pulverize people, and except
- 10:30Speaker 5: for that pin stake game and when when they had
- 10:32Speaker 5: to come back, it's like they are killing everybody, and
- 10:35Speaker 5: everybody's going.
- 10:36Speaker 2: That's a Big ten.
- 10:37Speaker 3: They're not very good, you know.
- 10:40Speaker 5: And they're still killing everybody, right, They're still just dominating,
- 10:45Speaker 5: and you're going you go back to that nineteen twenty
- 10:48Speaker 5: nineteen LSU team, and that's.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Probably fair with the amount of time. I'm not sure.
- 10:55Speaker 3: I don't know what you think.
- 10:56Speaker 5: I'm not sure Indiana has that level of consistent talent
- 11:01Speaker 5: that that l s U team had.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I'm not saying they're not talented.
- 11:05Speaker 5: They are talented, but I'm not sure they have that
- 11:08Speaker 5: many NFL NFL.
- 11:11Speaker 3: The second don't have the five stars.
- 11:13Speaker 2: They don't have a single five star like that's they had.
- 11:16Speaker 5: Okay, so so what they put up Oregon had fifty
- 11:21Speaker 5: five four.
- 11:22Speaker 3: And five star players. They had eight.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Thinking they were all eight four star, all four stars,
- 11:28Speaker 5: no five stars.
- 11:30Speaker 6: So you're trying to get fifty five eight. That's what.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Yeah, you're You're exactly right though, because I mean that
- 11:37Speaker 2: l s U team was more talented. I mean that
- 11:40Speaker 2: the NFL kind of caliber.
- 11:42Speaker 6: Yes, quarterback.
- 11:43Speaker 2: So here's the deal. We have to be careful, and
- 11:46Speaker 2: I have to remind myself all the time of this.
- 11:49Speaker 2: I only watched Miami like one time during the regular seasons, persess.
- 11:53Speaker 2: I only watched Indiana one time.
- 11:55Speaker 3: It was against Penn State.
- 11:56Speaker 2: So my impression of both those schools were they're not
- 12:00Speaker 2: very good.
- 12:02Speaker 3: You gotta be careful, you gotta get the whole picture.
- 12:05Speaker 6: Writ MIAMMI play a little bit of Notre Dame. I
- 12:07Speaker 6: watched them play s MU and I watched them play Louisville.
- 12:11Speaker 6: Yeah that's three, you know, two of the worst games. Yeah,
- 12:14Speaker 6: and you're right because we see so much football and
- 12:16Speaker 6: I saw very little Indiana, And I'm like you, Okay.
- 12:19Speaker 6: Then when they beat Penn State, the Miraculous Cat, that
- 12:23Speaker 6: was tough. It's tough to win at Penn State. If
- 12:26Speaker 6: you're Indiana, it's tough to win there.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Then I saw them, well, they hadn't in about seventy years.
- 12:30Speaker 6: And then when they wanted Oregon, I said teams for
- 12:33Speaker 6: real when.
- 12:33Speaker 3: You go to what I said, that's what That's the
- 12:36Speaker 3: game that got my attention.
- 12:37Speaker 5: When they went to Oregon and won that game, I went, okay,
- 12:41Speaker 5: that maybe they're pretty good.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I was a little late to the party. They got
- 12:44Speaker 2: my attention when they just destroyed Alabama.
- 12:47Speaker 3: They were like, oh man, this game is really good.
- 12:50Speaker 6: I was kind of rooting for them when they beat
- 12:52Speaker 6: Penn State because I forget what game we were at.
- 12:54Speaker 6: A bunch of riders were on this computer watching, and
- 12:57Speaker 6: I go, I like to see the Cinderoa story continue,
- 12:59Speaker 6: because you knew if if Indiana lost that game because
- 13:02Speaker 6: Pennce they didn't even have their they fared a coach, Yes,
- 13:04Speaker 6: a lot of things would have gone down. And that
- 13:06Speaker 6: guy made that catch. Yeah, and we're all there, Oh
- 13:08Speaker 6: he didn't make it. And then he showed a watching
- 13:11Speaker 6: the computer. He made that can catch the year.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Unbelievable to catch you the year.
- 13:15Speaker 6: When you can win in the road in a major conference,
- 13:18Speaker 6: like if you know, if you can win two huge games,
- 13:21Speaker 6: you're so melanchait.
- 13:23Speaker 5: Tony would have made the catch of the year. But
- 13:25Speaker 5: he got that one. Heel down there on the sideline.
- 13:28Speaker 3: That was fat.
- 13:30Speaker 2: It was unbelievable, wasn't it.
- 13:31Speaker 3: That was unbelievable.
- 13:33Speaker 2: I mean he didn't technically he didn't make the cat
- 13:35Speaker 2: that was a nodebl backup catch. Gosh, that was incredible.
- 13:37Speaker 2: That kid is just special, a very very special freshman.
- 13:41Speaker 3: He's special.
- 13:42Speaker 2: But you know who, I gotta say this though off
- 13:45Speaker 2: their toll rock or not, not like he ever had it,
- 13:48Speaker 2: but Michael Irvin has gone off. He's gone off the
- 13:51Speaker 2: deep he has I mean, he's off the deep end. Yeah.
- 13:56Speaker 3: Yeah, here's the He's the official team mascot, no doubt.
- 14:00Speaker 6: What I think when I think about Miami, what this
- 14:03Speaker 6: is going to do with the amount of money they have,
- 14:07Speaker 6: is christ of Baul such.
- 14:08Speaker 3: A good recruiter. He doesn't get better teams in the
- 14:09Speaker 3: next few years.
- 14:10Speaker 6: He might not.
- 14:11Speaker 3: He'll get tat He's gonna get a lot of he's
- 14:14Speaker 3: because they have money.
- 14:15Speaker 6: They have money.
- 14:15Speaker 3: They have money down there in southeat.
- 14:17Speaker 6: Miami is not a bad place to recruit.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Well, and that's the thing, you know, That's that's the
- 14:21Speaker 3: other thing. You look at that.
- 14:23Speaker 5: But I just I look at at what Miami has done,
- 14:29Speaker 5: and I'm with you, Ceese. I think talent in some
- 14:33Speaker 5: cases have overcome some of the stupid coaching. Uh. They
- 14:37Speaker 5: there's a team that we know almost didn't get in.
- 14:39Speaker 5: People don't think they should be in. You know, we've
- 14:42Speaker 5: seen that before. It's it's still are you playing your
- 14:45Speaker 5: best at the right time? Right, It's like every other
- 14:48Speaker 5: tournament we see, Uh, the NFL started a tournament. It's
- 14:52Speaker 5: like the best team may not win. It's a team
- 14:54Speaker 5: that's playing the best for about four games, right.
- 14:56Speaker 6: And Miami can run the ball with that running back, well,
- 15:00Speaker 6: they run the ball.
- 15:00Speaker 3: They can.
- 15:02Speaker 6: Don't sure they will against Indiana.
- 15:04Speaker 3: I don't think they will.
- 15:05Speaker 2: I think Indiana's is a whole another level.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I do too.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I mean the way they're playing, the confidence they're playing.
- 15:12Speaker 2: And you may say they're a bunch of three stars whatever,
- 15:14Speaker 2: they believe they're all. I mean, they believe they're Nasal
- 15:18Speaker 2: champions and they're they're.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Playing like that.
- 15:20Speaker 6: And you touched on when you're twenty two or twenty three,
- 15:22Speaker 6: you're not the same three star you were at eighteen
- 15:25Speaker 6: or seventeen. Suddenly you've gained two stars?
- 15:27Speaker 5: And what is it about certain staffs that can develop
- 15:32Speaker 5: these players?
- 15:33Speaker 3: Right?
- 15:34Speaker 5: I said for that, I mean, we know you have
- 15:37Speaker 5: to have a quarterback that that has been so obvious
- 15:40Speaker 5: throughout the playoffs, right, I mean, you have to have
- 15:44Speaker 5: the guy and not just a quarterback. Now I'm convinced
- 15:48Speaker 5: you better have one of the top four five quarterbacks
- 15:51Speaker 5: or you're not going to be in the hunt.
- 15:53Speaker 6: I'm with you. Quarterback play and all those guys started
- 15:56Speaker 6: somewhere else the final four say which will and there's not.
- 15:59Speaker 6: It's hard to beat experience. You're right. Beck overcame a lot.
- 16:03Speaker 6: He had a bad interception, but he put it.
- 16:05Speaker 5: Behind nothing nothing, nothing faces, given that I was given that,
- 16:09Speaker 5: and when he had to make place, he made place.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Well you just like I said earlier, it's like you
- 16:14Speaker 2: can see the composure he had. He's like, Okay, well
- 16:17Speaker 2: I'm gonna go. I'm gonna get this done. Yeah, I
- 16:19Speaker 2: mean like old Mistress took the lead. But there's still
- 16:21Speaker 2: plenty of time less on the clock. I'm gonna get
- 16:23Speaker 2: this done.
- 16:23Speaker 3: And Mendoza's just like, how to do to you? Oh?
- 16:27Speaker 2: So much fun?
- 16:28Speaker 5: Like I mean, I know it's fun. I mean he's
- 16:31Speaker 5: killing everybody, of course it's fun. But but he's unfaced
- 16:35Speaker 5: as well.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Right, And this guy he just doesn't miss throws you.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Know he he doesn't miss anything. Chip, he he knows
- 16:43Speaker 2: every Like when they got him to the postgame interview,
- 16:47Speaker 2: like he addressed him by name.
- 16:49Speaker 3: It's like, you know, he knew exactly.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Who they were. It's just like you know, he wanted
- 16:52Speaker 2: all the name of the Heisman guys or all the
- 16:54Speaker 2: name of his players before he got there.
- 16:56Speaker 3: He's special. Oh he is not.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Just special, but he's he's so prepared. He obviously, like
- 17:03Speaker 2: you said, he's not a costudent, so he has all
- 17:05Speaker 2: this time. He's putting all his time into Hey, what
- 17:08Speaker 2: happens who.
- 17:10Speaker 5: Unless an injury happens or he goes to a really
- 17:13Speaker 5: terrible place. Cleland that this guy is going to be
- 17:18Speaker 5: a big time quarter He's already a big time quarterback.
- 17:21Speaker 3: I think he's gonna be great in the NFL.
- 17:24Speaker 6: I think you hit it on Rusty here. Remind me
- 17:25Speaker 6: a lot of Burrow. Burrow that year he made great throws,
- 17:28Speaker 6: made long throws.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Just in the zone for the whole year, of his zone.
- 17:32Speaker 6: For the whole year. And you remember mating them went
- 17:33Speaker 6: down here and got like trash fifty.
- 17:35Speaker 3: See.
- 17:36Speaker 5: I feel like an idiot with my Heisman vote. Now
- 17:38Speaker 5: I want I want to take my Heisman vote back.
- 17:41Speaker 5: I just feel like a freaking idiot putting him number two.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Well well, well, I mean, you know, an.
- 17:46Speaker 6: With the group, I want to pick them one.
- 17:49Speaker 2: In hindsight, right, I mean because all eyes weren't on
- 17:53Speaker 2: him until it and so with all eyes on him,
- 17:56Speaker 2: I'm just like, oh my gosh, this guy is no
- 17:59Speaker 2: wonder therelievable.
- 18:01Speaker 6: But I watched the Oregon game, and like I said,
- 18:02Speaker 6: I watched the Penn State game and the stats were
- 18:05Speaker 6: just too overwhelming.
- 18:06Speaker 3: There they're over the top.
- 18:07Speaker 6: I would take Pavia back when I had him.
- 18:09Speaker 3: He just doesn't miss. He doesn't miss.
- 18:12Speaker 6: Well, he just and like I said's the maturity and
- 18:15Speaker 6: in the beauty of three of us. We've been around
- 18:18Speaker 6: sports enough. It's all about chemistry. If you round teams, Uh,
- 18:22Speaker 6: you go out Saturday again to the A and M
- 18:24Speaker 6: men's basketball team, that team's got chemistry. You watch that team, Uh,
- 18:29Speaker 6: they might only might end up going who knows eight
- 18:32Speaker 6: and ten, But they're fun to watch and you could
- 18:34Speaker 6: tell they don't get mad when they go out, they
- 18:37Speaker 6: get happy when they go in. You can tell the system.
- 18:40Speaker 6: And we used to sit here last year and rip
- 18:43Speaker 6: we didn't know why. Uh, buzz Williams take the best
- 18:46Speaker 6: player off. I've made three or four. Uh you trust everything.
- 18:52Speaker 3: That system, by the way, is not working in Maryland
- 18:54Speaker 3: right now.
- 18:55Speaker 6: Trust everything. Trust everything with milland does. I mean when
- 18:59Speaker 6: he does it, the guys go in, they play hard,
- 19:01Speaker 6: they get the they get the plays, and you think
- 19:04Speaker 6: this team just came a little bit like Indiana in
- 19:07Speaker 6: two years. This team came together in a few months
- 19:09Speaker 6: for very quickly. And you watch two of the biggest
- 19:12Speaker 6: plays when ag threw the ball, threw it to a spot. Yes, okay,
- 19:17Speaker 6: you play with a guy like two much and you
- 19:19Speaker 6: know he's going to be there with the game on
- 19:21Speaker 6: the line. Yes, that's pretty impressive. Yes, yeah, they're they
- 19:26Speaker 6: they've been very impressive. I mean they really have.
- 19:28Speaker 5: They they have exceeded right now, all expectations. You know,
- 19:32Speaker 5: I looked, I did before you guys walked in. I
- 19:35Speaker 5: was wondering what the point spread was tomorrow night, and
- 19:37Speaker 5: it's minus nine and a half. It does not, I thought,
- 19:44Speaker 5: I mean, I know how difficult it is. I know
- 19:46Speaker 5: how difficult their style is. They're huge, They're everything A
- 19:50Speaker 5: and M is not. They're plotting right there, They're going
- 19:53Speaker 5: to pound you if they can if, I am so
- 19:57Speaker 5: interested because for the most part we've seen other teams
- 20:01Speaker 5: have to bend to the will of this this bucketball right.
- 20:04Speaker 6: True, if you can get up and down the court,
- 20:07Speaker 6: people have to follow you. Yes, they'll be interest to
- 20:10Speaker 6: see if he can play at that fanatic pace in Knoxville.
- 20:13Speaker 5: Turnovers and made shots, right, I mean, that's those are
- 20:16Speaker 5: those are key things.
- 20:17Speaker 6: And getting back by the way, Buzz Williams has a
- 20:19Speaker 6: tough start. The good deal is the Big ten all
- 20:23Speaker 6: eighteen team goes to tournament because the top sixteen goes. He
- 20:27Speaker 6: might have trouble, but.
- 20:31Speaker 3: I'm not sure he's he'll make it this year. I'm
- 20:33Speaker 3: not sure.
- 20:34Speaker 2: You know, he wanted to go to a basketball school
- 20:37Speaker 2: and he's he thought A and M had a lot
- 20:40Speaker 2: of time.
- 20:40Speaker 5: I still I'm going to say this, I think Buzz
- 20:43Speaker 5: is going to win eventually. I think he'll win. He's
- 20:46Speaker 5: won everywhere. He has a system. It's going to work,
- 20:50Speaker 5: you know it is. He's going to get his players in.
- 20:53Speaker 5: They're going to play the way he wants him to play,
- 20:55Speaker 5: and eventually.
- 20:57Speaker 2: He will will get him to the tournament.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I'm not saying they're gonna win it all or anything.
- 21:01Speaker 5: I'm just going to say he's not going to be
- 21:04Speaker 5: zero to five in the league.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Everything that.
- 21:09Speaker 2: The way, and in places they play every bit as
- 21:11Speaker 2: a good defense as they did last year, and they've
- 21:14Speaker 2: got an offensive plan, and there's so much gone to watch,
- 21:18Speaker 2: and yeah, they do some frustrating things and they're way undersized.
- 21:21Speaker 2: And wait till Bucky gets all of his pieces and
- 21:26Speaker 2: he's got more than a month to put them all together.
- 21:29Speaker 2: But what he's doing so far, I mean you mentioned
- 21:32Speaker 2: eight and ten. Well, if they they need to get
- 21:35Speaker 2: to nine ten wins, well, now it leaks a lot
- 21:39Speaker 2: easier to do, right because right now you go, okay,
- 21:42Speaker 2: so to get to nine and nine, all you got
- 21:44Speaker 2: to do is go six and nine.
- 21:45Speaker 3: And the other thing is, when you start looking at
- 21:48Speaker 3: the league, win a Helmet's all I gotta do.
- 21:51Speaker 5: Well, they do have to win at home when you
- 21:54Speaker 5: start looking at the league, And I'll say again, I'm
- 21:57Speaker 5: going up and down this list, and I don't think
- 22:00Speaker 5: there's a great team among them right this year. You know,
- 22:03Speaker 5: last year there was probably four right right, and the
- 22:06Speaker 5: rest of the.
- 22:07Speaker 3: League was unreal.
- 22:09Speaker 5: Uh, this year they're just they're good I'm not saying
- 22:12Speaker 5: they're bad because their record proves they're good.
- 22:14Speaker 2: I think Vanderbilt is really good.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Vanderbilt is really good.
- 22:18Speaker 5: They're they're not hugely athletic, they're not very big. Okay,
- 22:25Speaker 5: that could hurt them when it's more of a half
- 22:28Speaker 5: court game in tournament play, but they're very good that
- 22:32Speaker 5: speaking of coaching, right, I mean, this guy has come
- 22:36Speaker 5: in and you're going, where did this come from?
- 22:38Speaker 3: Right?
- 22:39Speaker 5: And they're very good. I still think Arkansas is the most.
- 22:43Speaker 8: Talented building well, but Florida now has run Georgia back
- 22:49Speaker 8: to back at home Georgia and Arkansas.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Right, No, that's all Arkansas. Auburn played desk it.
- 23:00Speaker 6: Yes, they were desperate.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Auburn kind of played the way I thought they were
- 23:04Speaker 5: going to play.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Against A and M but didn't. But I don't know
- 23:09Speaker 3: if they sustain that well.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Texas goes to Alabama and wins.
- 23:14Speaker 3: That was a huge shoot up, huge shocker.
- 23:16Speaker 5: But what I'm saying is I think all these teams
- 23:19Speaker 5: are pretty equal, and I think nine and nine and
- 23:23Speaker 5: ten and eight right now looks more than doable for
- 23:25Speaker 5: the way this team is played now, as long as they,
- 23:29Speaker 5: you know, can stay relatively healthy. They've already lost obviously Inbacco,
- 23:35Speaker 5: but I think that for the style of the way
- 23:39Speaker 5: they play, I'm not saying Inbacco wouldn't be important. They
- 23:42Speaker 5: still don't have a big guy, but Ag has taken up.
- 23:47Speaker 2: He is so strong, he is real.
- 23:50Speaker 6: They couldn't stop him, sorry in the ball. And I'll
- 23:52Speaker 6: be interested see what he does against Tennessee size huge,
- 23:56Speaker 6: They got strength. Yeah, and Ag has been unstoppable one,
- 24:00Speaker 6: the one that seems shoot threes. But that's beside the point.
- 24:02Speaker 2: The only guy who's been a disappointment to me is Fuerderico.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I mean, he's just he's a big disappoint He is
- 24:07Speaker 2: a real disappointment. He was better last year text tech
- 24:10Speaker 2: than he is right now. He was really good, Yeah,
- 24:12Speaker 2: attack he was. He was really good.
- 24:14Speaker 5: And and and I just say it's style, right to me,
- 24:18Speaker 5: So I think it's style. I think he's struggling with
- 24:21Speaker 5: how they play.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Well in the substitutions are so much. You know, him
- 24:26Speaker 2: coming in defense for Age just to make sure that
- 24:29Speaker 2: Age doesn't get a foul, right, that's his only role.
- 24:32Speaker 2: And you know, right now, Vincent is just kind of
- 24:37Speaker 2: he showed signs, but I don't know, if you can
- 24:40Speaker 2: develop this late in the season, right.
- 24:42Speaker 6: Yeah, it'll be interesting.
- 24:44Speaker 5: I just I just noticed this am has to go
- 24:48Speaker 5: to Austin Saturday.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Yes, yes, okay, they got at U t at u
- 24:52Speaker 2: t yes. Yeah. Back if they could go one and
- 24:56Speaker 2: one this week, that'd right.
- 24:58Speaker 6: Yeah yeah.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:00Speaker 6: I was a good coach, you know the fact that.
- 25:02Speaker 6: But I still mind boggling because although Alabama was playing
- 25:05Speaker 6: halfway decent a couple of times I saw them.
- 25:07Speaker 5: For them, Alabama, it's not what they've white, what they've been,
- 25:11Speaker 5: They're they're still good and Oats is still an incredible basketball.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Still so easy for me to root against him though,
- 25:17Speaker 2: because he's so maddening.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, he is so maddening. He's pretty frenetic
- 25:23Speaker 3: on the sideline, but he can coach.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Man, he got he got teed up against.
- 25:29Speaker 6: He was so mad, he was hot.
- 25:33Speaker 5: Well what what Texas did which I haven't seen done.
- 25:37Speaker 3: They forced Alabama to pay to make.
- 25:39Speaker 5: Two point shots around the lane. And Oats is either
- 25:44Speaker 5: a layup or a three. That's his offense.
- 25:46Speaker 3: You either score at the rim or you hit a three.
- 25:50Speaker 5: And Texas what somehow was able to guard both of
- 25:54Speaker 5: those and force them to take two's it's just oaks.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Is this boiling?
- 26:02Speaker 2: I like to watch him stop. He reminds me of stopped.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Yeah, he says stop. I just like he looks like
- 26:09Speaker 3: a used car salesman all the time, and.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Salesman.
- 26:16Speaker 6: I just like watching him on the sidelines with that
- 26:18Speaker 6: with that sport code on he has from the fifties
- 26:21Speaker 6: or sixties.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Hey, I like it.
- 26:24Speaker 2: I think the guys he's good for the game because
- 26:26Speaker 2: I can't stand I want to go down He's a
- 26:30Speaker 2: great coach, but I do you want to go down there.
- 26:31Speaker 3: And slap him? All right, we'll take a break.

- 30:45Speaker 3: See what I just did there.
- 30:47Speaker 5: Welcome back Writers Roundtable on a Monday, brought to you
- 30:50Speaker 5: by Intech.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Guys. Have you seen the prices for the National Championship
- 30:55Speaker 3: Game on Monday night today?
- 30:59Speaker 5: It's I think twenty three hundred is the get in
- 31:05Speaker 5: price up to twenty one thousand. I just killed you then,
- 31:09Speaker 5: So here's the issue, because it's at Miami's home. Obviously,
- 31:15Speaker 5: every Hurricane fan in South Florid is trying to go
- 31:17Speaker 5: to that game. But you saw Indiana's what is it now,
- 31:22Speaker 5: thirty five hundred.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Yeah, sounded like a little low.
- 31:26Speaker 5: Now it's a little low. You saw the Indiana presence
- 31:30Speaker 5: at that game. That was impressive, very impressed. I mean
- 31:33Speaker 5: that was impressive. These people are hungry, they're very loud
- 31:37Speaker 5: at very loud, and you know they are fighting to
- 31:41Speaker 5: get in, which is why right now it's thirty two
- 31:45Speaker 5: hundred dollars for the get in price.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Because even like way back when before the started, it
- 31:50Speaker 2: was twenty four hundred dollars. Yeah, I was looking at
- 31:53Speaker 2: it just in case, you know, A and M made
- 31:55Speaker 2: a run.
- 31:55Speaker 3: But yeah, you didn't buy.
- 31:57Speaker 5: Any tickets to not because I heard today they're a
- 31:59Speaker 5: lot of people that lost a lot of money on
- 32:02Speaker 5: cotton bowlt tickets.
- 32:03Speaker 6: I believe that.
- 32:04Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 32:05Speaker 2: I didn't buy cotton bolt tickets either.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but it wasn't I wish I had not
- 32:12Speaker 3: about the first round tickets.
- 32:17Speaker 2: It was close, yeah, close, we were there. You could
- 32:20Speaker 2: tell the merchandise, you know, I.
- 32:24Speaker 3: Saw an almost national champion place.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Yeah, or maybe maybe who knows who knows who why
- 32:31Speaker 2: they play the game they.
- 32:32Speaker 3: Played the game.
- 32:33Speaker 5: Turnovers, guys. I mean that's the other thing. You you know,
- 32:36Speaker 5: you have all of these things and you think it's
- 32:38Speaker 5: it's coach speak. But in games, in games, any game
- 32:43Speaker 5: where there's just such a small margin for any team
- 32:47Speaker 5: you play all year long, right we and it's it's
- 32:51Speaker 5: gonna get worse with the transfer portal, everyone's gonna get
- 32:55Speaker 5: beat you know, competitive.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Who's gonna who's gonna be last in this league? I mean,
- 33:01Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying. I mean, it's like.
- 33:05Speaker 5: Everybody is paying a lot of money to try to
- 33:07Speaker 5: get to the top, and there's only one that can
- 33:09Speaker 5: make it.
- 33:09Speaker 6: To the top, Kentucky because they're gonna put all their
- 33:12Speaker 6: money in basketball.
- 33:13Speaker 3: Auburn. Auburn. Man, they're off to a pretty poor start,
- 33:17Speaker 3: yes they are.
- 33:18Speaker 6: But Alburt's gonna pony up eventually.
- 33:21Speaker 5: Well they've already ponied up. But they've lost players and
- 33:25Speaker 5: they haven't gotten them, you know, return for their players.
- 33:28Speaker 6: But Auburn has proven that they'll spend money.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Oh, there's no doubt they will spend money. Arkansas.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's so hard to tell.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Normally you say Vanderbilt.
- 33:42Speaker 6: But they got money too much.
- 33:44Speaker 5: I mean, they're they've got a taste. Now those people
- 33:47Speaker 5: are going to start writing checks.
- 33:48Speaker 2: I agree.
- 33:49Speaker 6: I still think I put Kentucky down the bottom. I
- 33:52Speaker 6: put Arkansas above them a little bit. Really, Okay, I'm
- 33:55Speaker 6: just saying your Yeah, that's a tough question though. But
- 33:58Speaker 6: I mean because because I saw North Carolina what's his face? State?
- 34:02Speaker 6: So he got enough promise of money, so he got
- 34:04Speaker 6: enough money to win. Yeh, you know, you got to
- 34:08Speaker 6: have X amount of dollars.
- 34:10Speaker 3: You know it's and it was, but not only not
- 34:15Speaker 3: only do you have to have X amount of dollars.
- 34:18Speaker 3: We've seen this rusty and pro sports for years. You
- 34:21Speaker 3: better use them wisely. Yeah, it's easy.
- 34:24Speaker 5: It's easy to burn through your thirty million dollar budget
- 34:29Speaker 5: on some players who weren't who you thought they were.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's still it's about, you know, really identifying
- 34:36Speaker 2: the talent. And it's not all the big name schools.
- 34:39Speaker 2: I mean, when Trinder Dad came to Old Miss, I'm
- 34:41Speaker 2: not sure anybody was like, oh.
- 34:43Speaker 3: What's a big get huge get right? Yeah, it's like
- 34:46Speaker 3: but look who look who you became. By the way,
- 34:49Speaker 3: Oregon is putting all of their eggs in the Dylan.
- 34:55Speaker 6: Ray Rascal Rayola. But they supposedly if if more comes back,
- 35:01Speaker 6: he'll red shirt next year.
- 35:02Speaker 5: Okay, you see I thought that, I thought when they
- 35:05Speaker 5: when I saw that the day, I said, well More
- 35:07Speaker 5: must be leaving.
- 35:08Speaker 3: But I hadn't seen anything.
- 35:09Speaker 6: But see, that's much money Oregon has. They could spend
- 35:11Speaker 6: a few million, have a quarter to put it back
- 35:13Speaker 6: on way that if they don't like him, they get
- 35:15Speaker 6: another one.
- 35:16Speaker 5: I won't tell you this quarterback ain't gonna be any
- 35:18Speaker 5: better with another red shirt year. This this is not
- 35:22Speaker 5: the guy to lead you to the final four.
- 35:25Speaker 2: I don't think so either.
- 35:28Speaker 3: Idiot next year when he does, I am not impressed
- 35:31Speaker 3: with that guy.
- 35:32Speaker 6: Landing is a good coach. Even he took a hit
- 35:34Speaker 6: last week, you know with that game.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Well, yeah, you wonder. I don't think it's a big hit.
- 35:41Speaker 5: I was looking at some of the Oregon you know
- 35:43Speaker 5: stories and stuff, the fact that was this his third
- 35:47Speaker 5: year or.
- 35:47Speaker 3: Fourth year there?
- 35:49Speaker 6: Oh, I probably say it's fourth year.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Yeah, probably. While I mean he's he's done a great job.
- 35:55Speaker 6: He's good.
- 35:56Speaker 3: I mean he's he's a little quirky. But but we
- 35:59Speaker 3: just had that about the Indiana coach.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Right, Quirky's fine as long as you're winning.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Quirky Quirky is great if you're winning.
- 36:08Speaker 6: But in Oregon, you better win it all eventually, because.
- 36:10Speaker 3: Well that's the other thing. They haven't done it yet.
- 36:12Speaker 3: And that's another program that they've been closed.
- 36:15Speaker 6: They paid a lot, but they haven't they.
- 36:18Speaker 5: Haven't done it. Paid a lot, they haven't done it.
- 36:20Speaker 5: I mean, only one can stand at the end of
- 36:22Speaker 5: the year.
- 36:23Speaker 2: It's only one and we're talking about a lot of money,
- 36:26Speaker 2: and it's amazing. It could probably be Indiana.
- 36:28Speaker 6: You know, and this is another year at the SEC
- 36:31Speaker 6: not going to have a championship.
- 36:32Speaker 3: Three years in a row.
- 36:34Speaker 5: The time, I think, I'm thinking Greg Sankie is going
- 36:37Speaker 5: to push for fifteen of sixteen in the from the
- 36:40Speaker 5: SEC next year if you.
- 36:41Speaker 6: Stayed in the playoffs.
- 36:43Speaker 2: I saw Bobby Knight was undefeated in seventy six, Yes,
- 36:48Speaker 2: and Indiana's got a chance to go back undefeated a
- 36:51Speaker 2: different sport fifty years later. Oh that thinking about that?
- 36:55Speaker 5: Good?
- 36:55Speaker 10: Wow?
- 36:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that's wild. I mean, they got chance to be
- 36:58Speaker 2: sixteen and oh, I know that's pretty good man crazy.
- 37:02Speaker 3: This team deserves to be sixteen. Oh I know, they
- 37:04Speaker 3: do a great story. They deserve it. They need another chapter.
- 37:09Speaker 2: And in hindsight, you know, had they lost to Penn State,
- 37:13Speaker 2: well whatever, you know, I mean, okay, it'd be fifteen
- 37:15Speaker 2: and one, fourteen and one, yeah, yeah, I mean.
- 37:18Speaker 6: They've been different. Maybe they lose somewhere on, maybe they
- 37:21Speaker 6: have a different schedule, you know what happened.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Maybe I mean that coming back back to that making
- 37:27Speaker 2: that spectacular catch and you know, just the last minute drive,
- 37:31Speaker 2: and that's got a way of you know, building, you know, coffee.
- 37:34Speaker 5: You know that that game was the coming out party
- 37:37Speaker 5: of Becker. They're tied dver eighty. Who's gotten better and
- 37:40Speaker 5: better by gosh. Ever since then, he's looked like Brock Bauers. Yeah,
- 37:45Speaker 5: I mean, he has been phenomenal, killing Winslow like he's
- 37:48Speaker 5: been remembered that the Cooper, the kid that the great catch,
- 37:52Speaker 5: had to sit out, that next guy had to sit
- 37:55Speaker 5: out one of the the first playoff team, maybe one
- 37:57Speaker 5: of them. And Becker's it's been unreal.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Even last week he makes an incredible catch.
- 38:04Speaker 5: So my thing is, when when you have a season
- 38:06Speaker 5: like that, you have to have guys like that, right,
- 38:10Speaker 5: you have to have guys that and I don't know
- 38:12Speaker 5: what star he was or if anybody ever recruited him,
- 38:15Speaker 5: but you have to have those kind of guys to
- 38:18Speaker 5: elevate around the best guys, right, Your best guys still
- 38:24Speaker 5: have to be your best guys, but they have to
- 38:26Speaker 5: bring other people with them.
- 38:29Speaker 6: I think, let's be honest, A and M is in
- 38:30Speaker 6: the final twelve, which means they're in the final ten.
- 38:33Speaker 6: We can critique about four or five things that A
- 38:36Speaker 6: and M needs to be better in quarterback play, need
- 38:39Speaker 6: a field goal kicker, you need to run the ball
- 38:41Speaker 6: and stop the running. And they're in the final ten.
- 38:43Speaker 6: Everybody's going to have weaknesses just because you can't pay
- 38:48Speaker 6: for everybody.
- 38:48Speaker 5: No, you're right.
- 38:49Speaker 6: And when you say when when you're off off off
- 38:55Speaker 6: item of your game picks up. Let's say you're you're
- 38:58Speaker 6: not going to put a lot of money in running,
- 39:00Speaker 6: but you get sorted with some more running backs and
- 39:02Speaker 6: everybody else is good. You're right. Those other phases of
- 39:05Speaker 6: your game. Other guys going to pick it up good enough.
- 39:08Speaker 2: What is Indiana's weakness?
- 39:10Speaker 6: I haven't seen one.
- 39:11Speaker 2: I haven't either, I mean I really did.
- 39:13Speaker 3: I haven't either.
- 39:14Speaker 5: You talked about it and their best defensive player is out.
- 39:17Speaker 5: I don't know their defensive lineman, who was their stopper
- 39:20Speaker 5: all year long. Their best defender is out?
- 39:24Speaker 6: Maybe unning game maybe no, no, no, he's been out.
- 39:27Speaker 3: Yeah no he got he got hurt in uh.
- 39:30Speaker 5: I think the first playoff game of the last regular
- 39:33Speaker 5: in the in the championship game against Ohio.
- 39:36Speaker 6: State, Miami, would be the one to expose that. Who knows.
- 39:39Speaker 6: I mean, they gotta win one more.
- 39:41Speaker 2: You we know that Miami plays great defense, and they
- 39:45Speaker 2: played great defense for most of the game against the
- 39:47Speaker 2: old their.
- 39:47Speaker 5: Lines of scrimmage, I'm telling you that old Miss Miami game.
- 39:52Speaker 5: Holy Molly, were they knocking the crud out of each other.
- 39:55Speaker 5: I mean from the first play that was that was
- 40:00Speaker 5: un to watch. The Oh my gosh, they were intense.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Well, I mean you get to see strength against strengths.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Is the best player coleach football. I think Bane's the
- 40:08Speaker 2: best defensive players you know from Miami. He can dominate
- 40:12Speaker 2: a game.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Right, Oh, no doubt he's But they but they kept
- 40:15Speaker 3: him in check. Yeah they did. They kept him in check.
- 40:18Speaker 2: But they did a pretty good job of, like you said,
- 40:21Speaker 2: keeping him in check and like let not letting him
- 40:24Speaker 2: just influence the game.
- 40:26Speaker 3: I mean, I thought Chamberliss is still going to go
- 40:28Speaker 3: down and win the game for it.
- 40:31Speaker 5: I mean, he's That's why I say, your your quarterback
- 40:35Speaker 5: can't just be another guy anymore.
- 40:37Speaker 2: And that's why I say, like, you don't know, because
- 40:40Speaker 2: I mean he's a Division two quarterback.
- 40:42Speaker 3: You don't know.
- 40:43Speaker 2: So yeah, if they brought it.
- 40:45Speaker 3: I bet that NFL football forever.
- 40:47Speaker 5: It's like you draft these guys one and they never
- 40:51Speaker 5: work out, and then you have Tom Brady.
- 40:53Speaker 3: I mean, who knows how these quarterbacks.
- 40:56Speaker 6: Are men come from California. Who takes marrying him lsu
- 41:03Speaker 6: right in Indiana? Go Yep, not bad, not a bad move,
- 41:07Speaker 6: not a bad move. You just got to read the talent,
- 41:09Speaker 6: you know. That's it's it's recruiting two, you know, recruiting
- 41:13Speaker 6: one in the high schools. Now you're liking it.
- 41:16Speaker 2: And you're hoping you're a little more accurate on the
- 41:18Speaker 2: portal guys because you can see, Yeah, you can't afford
- 41:21Speaker 2: to miss.
- 41:22Speaker 3: These are refreshmen. These guys maybe playing their last season.
- 41:26Speaker 6: And you're paying a lot of money for.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Them, and you're playing a lot of money for them.
- 41:29Speaker 2: But it's interesting when you take a chance on the
- 41:32Speaker 2: Trinidad and like, okay, I think this guy has all
- 41:36Speaker 2: the tools. Like like you said, I mean cowboys used
- 41:39Speaker 2: to back in the seventies, they used to always find
- 41:41Speaker 2: that Gil Brandt right, Yeah, yeah, they would always find.
- 41:44Speaker 3: Some kind of somebody. Who is this guy you know,
- 41:47Speaker 3: Jethropepew too tall Jones.
- 41:50Speaker 6: Yeah, let's look at Glene Kiffin. He brings, Yes he does,
- 41:54Speaker 6: he brings chamblisin. But at what point how much was
- 41:57Speaker 6: he paying the guy that was the starter and money?
- 42:00Speaker 6: And go, wow, if we bench that guy and bring
- 42:02Speaker 6: this chainless guy, and is he gonna be any good?
- 42:04Speaker 6: Because people that put the nil money in and I
- 42:07Speaker 6: forget what his name is now the starter, but you
- 42:10Speaker 6: know they're staying like, hey, I want my guy starting.
- 42:12Speaker 5: Hey, by the way, Lane got a dude today, Sam
- 42:15Speaker 5: Lovett from Arizona State. He's been compared to Jackson Dart,
- 42:18Speaker 5: which I love that like a riverboat gambler kind of
- 42:21Speaker 5: guy you know that can throw you know, bees all
- 42:24Speaker 5: over the field. That's a great get for him. I mean,
- 42:29Speaker 5: you knew he's gonna have a good quarterback, right, but
- 42:32Speaker 5: but this kid, if he takes him to that extra level,
- 42:36Speaker 5: we're talking about then you know real early on you're
- 42:40Speaker 5: gonna have.
- 42:40Speaker 3: To deal with him, right, we already know that. You know,
- 42:44Speaker 3: you already know you're gonna have to deal with l
- 42:45Speaker 3: s U.
- 42:46Speaker 7: You just know it.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and with this quarterback, that's a big get
- 42:51Speaker 3: for him.
- 42:52Speaker 6: I give Kiffing a bigger check than I do koach O.
- 42:58Speaker 5: You know this book, this book that I'm reading with
- 43:01Speaker 5: this on Pete Carroll, coach oh was the recruiting dude
- 43:05Speaker 5: on that staff, and I'd forgotten all of that, right,
- 43:09Speaker 5: And they were saying he he was hit between him
- 43:12Speaker 5: and Carol and there was one other dude that was
- 43:15Speaker 5: like a staff assistant, not not a coach that those
- 43:21Speaker 5: three guys just recruited everybody.
- 43:25Speaker 3: They're the ones that got all that NFL talent on campus.
- 43:28Speaker 3: And they were talking about coach.
- 43:29Speaker 5: O going in you know, his voice and you know,
- 43:33Speaker 5: dealing with all the parents and and and it's just
- 43:37Speaker 5: this is fascinating.
- 43:39Speaker 3: It's fascinating.
- 43:41Speaker 5: And Pete Carroll was a loser, right, They just thought
- 43:44Speaker 5: they when they hired him. It's like, well, you know,
- 43:47Speaker 5: Mike Garrett, they were already on him as athletic director,
- 43:50Speaker 5: and of course the first year and a half weren't
- 43:52Speaker 5: too good, and they're going, oh man, this is a
- 43:56Speaker 5: horrible hire, right because he is different. Yes, I said,
- 44:00Speaker 5: turned out pretty well. Yeah, ten years worth exactly.
- 44:03Speaker 3: Okay, we'll take a break.
- 44:05Speaker 5: It's a Monday thing, the Writer's Roundtable, brought to you

- 44:24Speaker 12: and POI I'm glad I did. The folks at Shorlty
- 44:27Speaker 12: guided me every step of the way. They showed me
- 44:29Speaker 12: my options, They told me what my out of pocket
- 44:32Speaker 12: cost would be after insurance. They took the complication out
- 44:35Speaker 12: of an otherwise very stressful situation. They took off the
- 44:38Speaker 12: damage roof, put on the new roof, did all the
- 44:40Speaker 12: clean up, and I had my new roof.
- 44:42Speaker 10: In one day.
- 44:45Speaker 7: The whole by the moll roof.

- 46:15Speaker 5: Writers around table for a Monday. Rusting person is here.
- 46:19Speaker 5: Robert Cessna is here. We've turned Robert into a college
- 46:23Speaker 5: basketball fan. You that's like your third.
- 46:25Speaker 6: Game in a row or so I've been always been
- 46:27Speaker 6: a basketball Oh no, I know that. I'm just a teams.
- 46:31Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a Gillespie really yeah, why bother? Right, bother.
- 46:35Speaker 6: But that's what you want to go out and see.
- 46:37Speaker 6: I consider myself an average college basketball fan, not into
- 46:41Speaker 6: it because I love good high school basketball and you
- 46:44Speaker 6: get a good and you know, once again, is you
- 46:47Speaker 6: look what Gillespie did when he came here. The fans,
- 46:51Speaker 6: you know, related to him. They got excited he had.
- 46:54Speaker 3: I noticed they they they they h honored Billy Kennedy's correct. Yeah,
- 47:00Speaker 3: the team Dane. Yeah, four guys played in the NBA off.
- 47:07Speaker 2: That that's the only team has raised the banner in
- 47:09Speaker 2: Read Arena in a long time.
- 47:11Speaker 6: Yes, it is.
- 47:12Speaker 3: And you know they were co SEC team. Yes, they
- 47:15Speaker 3: were really good.
- 47:16Speaker 6: And now Bucky does that same thing. You can see
- 47:18Speaker 6: the crowd relating to the team. And you know, don't
- 47:22Speaker 6: get me wrong, whether you're talking about Kennedy, whether you're
- 47:25Speaker 6: talking about Turjon, what are you talking about Buzzweims. I
- 47:29Speaker 6: feel they all.
- 47:30Speaker 3: Helped to move the program forward.
- 47:32Speaker 6: When you go out there Saturday and you see there's
- 47:34Speaker 6: sventy five hundred people there and there's not a lot
- 47:36Speaker 6: of students that are into the game. I know the
- 47:38Speaker 6: price tickets have gone up this team. This community wants
- 47:42Speaker 6: a winner, you know, because what happened in volleyball, what
- 47:45Speaker 6: happened in football, and I think Bucky has a chance
- 47:49Speaker 6: to produce that kind of winner that the community to
- 47:52Speaker 6: get behind.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Well, Bucky is the most easy coach to embrace here
- 47:57Speaker 2: in a long time. I mean, because the reality was,
- 48:01Speaker 2: it wasn't easy to embrace buzs he was a different guy.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Turgon never really.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Liked being here.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Unfortunately. Billy Kennedy was so low key that it was
- 48:12Speaker 2: hard to I love Billy Kennedy, I loved his teams,
- 48:15Speaker 2: but it wasn't easy to get like, oh man, this
- 48:17Speaker 2: is our guy, right and you know, I mean Billy
- 48:23Speaker 2: Clyde he was. He was easy to embrace, but he
- 48:26Speaker 2: was hard to kind of like him from a personal basis,
- 48:28Speaker 2: I mean, he was. He was a strange dude. And
- 48:31Speaker 2: so Bucky seems to be the best of all worlds
- 48:35Speaker 2: in terms of Okay, here's a guy who's obviously a
- 48:38Speaker 2: very good basketball coach. He's upbeat. I love to hear
- 48:40Speaker 2: him in the press conference. He's a young guy, he
- 48:43Speaker 2: loves to be here. He's already embracing everything that Texas
- 48:46Speaker 2: A and m is and I just he feels like
- 48:49Speaker 2: it feels like a him got really lucky the buzz
- 48:52Speaker 2: left late and that Bucky was willing to be here,
- 48:55Speaker 2: and because I think they they might have a hit
- 48:58Speaker 2: on something that otherwise.
- 48:59Speaker 5: I'm just amazed when I watched this team that they
- 49:04Speaker 5: were thrown together at the last minute.
- 49:07Speaker 3: They look like they've played.
- 49:10Speaker 2: He says, they've got chemistry already.
- 49:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it's hard, you know, but.
- 49:14Speaker 5: They again, let's let's be clear, they have some ve
- 49:18Speaker 5: we were talking about veteran guys. They have got guys
- 49:22Speaker 5: that have played a lot of basketball on this too.
- 49:24Speaker 2: Well, like Agy says, like the team that played at
- 49:27Speaker 2: Oklahoma State is so different the team is playing right now,
- 49:30Speaker 2: no doubt. I mean, just because from a chemistry standpoint.
- 49:33Speaker 14: And Bucky's got good assistance, yes he doesn't, let's not
- 49:36Speaker 14: forget that. And now he's got about thirty of them
- 49:39Speaker 14: he's got he's got some very good assistance help.
- 49:44Speaker 5: And guys who have been here, been here and understand
- 49:49Speaker 5: the at least the culture.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's huge, that really is. But I thought
- 49:54Speaker 2: he did a fantastic job in hiring those two guys. Man,
- 49:57Speaker 2: you know, no doubt well three.
- 49:58Speaker 5: I hate yeah, three, that's really it.
- 50:05Speaker 6: Means a lot. And that's why I thought Buzz would
- 50:07Speaker 6: have a lot more success than what he did, because
- 50:09Speaker 6: he'd been here before. I knew the lay of the land.
- 50:11Speaker 6: Do what you gotta do. And it didn't work out.
- 50:14Speaker 6: But like you said, sometimes things happen for a reason,
- 50:18Speaker 6: and well, I'm a firm believer in that anything in
- 50:21Speaker 6: life and whatever things happen for a reason.
- 50:23Speaker 2: I just think that he's been so much fun and
- 50:25Speaker 2: no matter if his team makes a determined or not,
- 50:27Speaker 2: what he's been able to do. I mean, I had
- 50:31Speaker 2: hoped at the start of the year this would be
- 50:33Speaker 2: a competitive team, you know, just just compete, and it's
- 50:37Speaker 2: it's beyond that, beyond that, and so I'm not you know,
- 50:41Speaker 2: I'm not gonna jump. I know they're gonna have losses
- 50:43Speaker 2: that they promisehould but you start looking at it, it's like, okay, well,
- 50:48Speaker 2: if you've got.
- 50:48Speaker 3: To get to nine and nine, now you just got
- 50:50Speaker 3: to go six or nine.
- 50:51Speaker 6: I like when a guy rolls into the walks right
- 50:54Speaker 6: into in the press room in a decent hour after
- 50:57Speaker 6: the game, decent time and says, hey, guys, tough one.
- 51:00Speaker 6: You know, just talking to you like we're talking right now,
- 51:03Speaker 6: not like walking in.
- 51:04Speaker 3: And he'll answer the question.
- 51:05Speaker 6: You answer the question not looking at us, and I
- 51:07Speaker 6: like it.
- 51:07Speaker 5: I like that.
- 51:09Speaker 6: Give you your answer and he gives a fresh take
- 51:12Speaker 6: on the answer. He gives you some coach speak, but.
- 51:14Speaker 3: He'll throw in some story or he's really funny.
- 51:18Speaker 2: He seems to have a sense of humor too.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 51:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like on the plane back, you know, he
- 51:23Speaker 2: had the video about the millisecond. You know, if you're
- 51:25Speaker 2: a millisecond, if you're a millisecond, like it doesn't count,
- 51:28Speaker 2: you know.
- 51:28Speaker 3: I just I love that.
- 51:29Speaker 2: It's just like, hey, okay, and you know he okay.
- 51:33Speaker 6: When I heard that, you know what I thought right away?
- 51:35Speaker 6: I thought, Alane Kiffin kind of thing you need to do, yea,
- 51:38Speaker 6: that's what people want to hear.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Well, you have to embrace it to exactly. I mean,
- 51:42Speaker 2: you have to get to sell basketball text or.
- 51:48Speaker 3: One of two things. And it's not just here.
- 51:51Speaker 5: You you can do it with personality, but you have
- 51:55Speaker 5: to win. Sure, you can do it without personality, but
- 51:58Speaker 5: you really have to win. Yeah, right, I mean, seriously,
- 52:02Speaker 5: if you win, it doesn't matter.
- 52:04Speaker 3: You just have to win.
- 52:06Speaker 5: And everybody does it differently, right, everyone does it differently
- 52:10Speaker 5: because everyone has a different personality. And you look at
- 52:14Speaker 5: you know, you look at the teams around the country
- 52:16Speaker 5: right now, and you look at all the coaches and men,
- 52:19Speaker 5: they're all I mean, they're all just they're different kind
- 52:23Speaker 5: of guys. You look at Danny Hurley, he's a while
- 52:25Speaker 5: you were talking about a wildman. Danny Hurley is a wildman.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Is he makes Nate OAHs? Look? Look call right, I
- 52:32Speaker 3: mean he is crazy.
- 52:34Speaker 2: He's got a cold national titles.
- 52:36Speaker 3: He has a couple of national titles in his back pocket. Right,
- 52:40Speaker 3: you look at the guy.
- 52:41Speaker 5: I mean, I'm just I'm amazed at what Otzenberger has
- 52:45Speaker 5: done at Iowa State. Right, they're sitting at sixteen and
- 52:48Speaker 5: oh and playing them is Frankly, it's a little you
- 52:53Speaker 5: were talking about Gillespie, it's probably a little like what
- 52:57Speaker 5: teams hated to do to play his team and how
- 53:01Speaker 5: they and how they defend. Right, you don't want to
- 53:04Speaker 5: do that. And then you go to the other end
- 53:06Speaker 5: of the spectrum. We're talking about Bucky, who wants to
- 53:09Speaker 5: get ready for that, right community. Yeah, the coaches. Yes,
- 53:14Speaker 5: Porter Moser is like, man, this this is a hard
- 53:16Speaker 5: team to get to play with the atmosphere too, he said, yes,
- 53:19Speaker 5: he did throw that in.
- 53:21Speaker 3: And Porter has been here, right, he's been here.
- 53:24Speaker 2: Uh, he was here with Tony.
- 53:29Speaker 3: He probably didn't see much of it that he did.
- 53:31Speaker 6: No fans at all, no over. Yeah, but I'm just
- 53:34Speaker 6: saying this. They realize how far this program's come and
- 53:37Speaker 6: how much that means. But all those guys you mentioned,
- 53:41Speaker 6: like Seawn Miller, like the Beard, all these guys are
- 53:44Speaker 6: their own system.
- 53:45Speaker 5: They they're all different, man. They there's a lot of ways.
- 53:48Speaker 5: There's a lot of ways to do it. But Bunkie's
- 53:52Speaker 5: way is a fun way.
- 53:53Speaker 2: It is a fun way, and it's like everything.
- 53:57Speaker 3: It's not just fast. It's the way they move the ball.
- 54:00Speaker 11: I love.
- 54:00Speaker 2: I mean how quickly they passed the ball and the
- 54:04Speaker 2: defensive help that they provide. It's just there's a lot
- 54:07Speaker 2: of little things about the kickout. And you know, when
- 54:11Speaker 2: Reuben Demingus is on, it's like, oh my gosh, that
- 54:13Speaker 2: guy's just got a silky smooth shot.
- 54:16Speaker 3: Where did they come from?
- 54:18Speaker 5: Huh?
- 54:18Speaker 3: I mean, where did what you're going where this guy? Yeah,
- 54:20Speaker 3: I know, because he's just fantastic.
- 54:22Speaker 6: He's got a little bit of like the Nolan Richardson
- 54:24Speaker 6: theme about pressing.
- 54:26Speaker 3: For forty minutes. Hell, you know, it's like he takes.
- 54:28Speaker 6: A little bit of all. Like he said, he's they're
- 54:30Speaker 6: fun and a lot of reasons to watch.
- 54:32Speaker 2: And they give up a few baskets, I mean, you know,
- 54:34Speaker 2: break the press and some easy ones. But yeah, they
- 54:37Speaker 2: also hadst doll You're gonna play, also had a ten
- 54:40Speaker 2: second call. They had a five second call, I mean,
- 54:42Speaker 2: and and at one point Auburn had like, excuse me,
- 54:46Speaker 2: not Auburn, but uh, Oklahoma had like six turnovers.
- 54:50Speaker 3: They him had zero to.
- 54:51Speaker 5: Him had seventeen turnovers, So so Am was plus nine
- 54:54Speaker 5: on the turnovers.
- 54:55Speaker 3: And more said you can't have that, right, he said,
- 54:58Speaker 3: that's the one.
- 54:58Speaker 5: Thing we told them, right, Twelve was the absolute maximum
- 55:02Speaker 5: week and a half, and here we are with seventeen.
- 55:04Speaker 3: But you see, his guys, his guys made bonehead plays
- 55:08Speaker 3: at the time.
- 55:08Speaker 2: But did you see how excited A and M was
- 55:11Speaker 2: when they got the five second call or when they
- 55:13Speaker 2: got the ten second half call that they were more
- 55:15Speaker 2: excited about that than when they hit big three.
- 55:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I was just like, Okay, that's cool.
- 55:20Speaker 6: Even though that room gets pretty excited when teams us
- 55:26Speaker 6: thank you see you next week.
