And when the multitudes heard this, they were astonished at His teaching. Matthew 22:33
“And having heard, the crowds, they were outstruck upon the ‘teaching, His’.” (CG)
In the previous verse, Jesus explained to the Sadducees that God is the God of the living, not the dead. Matthew next records, “And having heard, the crowds.”
Rather than focus on the reaction of the Sadducees, Matthew notes the reaction of the crowds. The Sadducees would have little to say about Jesus’ words until they had time to process them. It is certain that they eventually rationalized away…
