- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 0:04Speaker 1: FM Sports Headlines.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Good morning from Seahawks headquarters in Renton. Headlines are brought
- 0:09Speaker 2: to you by Frostbrook. Coors Light. As cold as the
- 0:13Speaker 2: Rockies or choose chill.
- 0:14Speaker 3: I think we could do all of it when it
- 0:16Speaker 3: comes to Coors Light.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Choose as cold as the Rockies. I guess maybe you
- 0:19Speaker 2: could say that too. But no, as cold as the Rockies,
- 0:22Speaker 2: choose chill. Both of them work for Coors. Frostbrook, Coors Light.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Seahawks are back on the practice field after three days
- 0:28Speaker 2: off it. Full preparations now for the game Sunday night
- 0:31Speaker 2: against the 5-2 Chicago Bears. We may not find out
- 0:34Speaker 2: until game time what three-time All-Pro guard Quentin Nelson's arrival
- 0:37Speaker 2: means for Gray Zabo, Anthony Bradford, maybe center Jalen Sandell
- 0:42Speaker 2: in the interior of Seattle's offensive line. That offensive line
- 0:45Speaker 2: has a new task as of about three hours ago.
- 0:48Speaker 2: The Bears made today's big NFL news. Chicago's getting All-Pro
- 0:51Speaker 2: defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons from Tennessee. sending the Titans two
- 0:56Speaker 2: first-round picks in a trade. I can't think off the
- 0:58Speaker 2: top of my head ever a defensive tackle commanding two
- 1:01Speaker 2: first-round picks in a trade. Very few defensive players command
- 1:06Speaker 2: in the last generation.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I heard the morning show just saying that
- 1:10Speaker 4: they're going for it.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Yeah, they are. Jamal Adams is one of the only
- 1:14Speaker 2: defensive players in the last, I could think of, in
- 1:17Speaker 2: a while, and that didn't work out too well for Seattle,
- 1:18Speaker 2: of course. But now Zabril, Nelson, Seahawks interior, the offensive
- 1:23Speaker 2: line have to face One of the best defensive tackles
- 1:26Speaker 2: in football. 11 sacks last year as an All-Pro. They
- 1:29Speaker 2: are hands full with the Chicago debut of Jeffrey Simmons
- 1:33Speaker 2: on Monday night in Seattle. The Kraken blew a 4-2
- 1:35Speaker 2: lead on Toronto when the Maple Leafs scored an equalizer
- 1:38Speaker 2: with 90 seconds left. Then with 30 seconds to play,
- 1:41Speaker 2: Brandon Montour did this.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Faceoff to his right.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Off the draw.
- 1:48Speaker 6: Here's Montour.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Walks in. Shoots. Scores!
- 1:50Speaker 6: Brandon Montour!
- 1:57Speaker 2: Our Ian Furness on the Kraken Hockey Network. Great call. Yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 2: It was a great batting. Matty Beneers won a crucial
- 2:04Speaker 2: faceoff there in the Toronto zone and then a pass
- 2:07Speaker 2: across from McBain. That was just a great play. And
- 2:12Speaker 2: Montour walked into the middle of the faceoff circle and
- 2:15Speaker 2: beat low block side Bobrovsky to win the game.
- 2:17Speaker 4: 5-4.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Kraken win again. They finish the homestand 3-1 next on
- 2:21Speaker 2: Friday at their favorite Calgary Flames. You get Flames twice
- 2:25Speaker 2: in a week here coming up. Sounders, meanwhile, down at
- 2:27Speaker 2: the stadium in Soto, lost 1-0 to the Houston Dynamo
- 2:30Speaker 2: last night. The World Series. Listen to what it sounds
- 2:34Speaker 2: like right now and last night in Milwaukee. The 2-1 pitch.
- 2:39Speaker 7: Ground ball, second base.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Terang has it. Goes to first. The wait is over.
- 2:44Speaker 5: The Brewers have won the World Series.
- 2:50Speaker 2: They have done it.
- 2:52Speaker 5: This relentless bunch who nobody gave a chance to at
- 2:57Speaker 5: the beginning of the season.
- 2:58Speaker 2: A friend of mine, Jeff Levering on Brewers Radio, happy
- 3:03Speaker 2: for him, happy for the people of Wisconsin. After 57 years,
- 3:08Speaker 2: the Seattle Pilots slash Milwaukee Brewers are the World Series champions. Yes,
- 3:12Speaker 2: the franchise that started at Sixth Stadium, down where the
- 3:15Speaker 2: Lowe's on Rainier Avenue is right now, became the Milwaukee
- 3:19Speaker 2: Brewers in 1970, and now they're the first First time
- 3:22Speaker 2: ever world champions, Milwaukee Brewers. They beat the Rays four
- 3:24Speaker 2: games to one, finishing it off last night in St. Petersburg. Man,
- 3:29Speaker 2: they were great. They were the best team in the
- 3:31Speaker 2: regular season. And then in the postseason, they went 11-2.
- 3:34Speaker 2: They only lost two games throughout the entire postseason, including
- 3:39Speaker 2: sweeping out the mighty Dodgers. That's what the Brewers, one
- 3:43Speaker 2: of the most impressive postseason runs in a minute. College football,
- 3:47Speaker 2: the Washington Huskies play at Nebraska 5 p.m. Saturday on
- 3:49Speaker 2: a Halloween night game. Jet Fish keeping everyone guessing whether
- 3:52Speaker 2: Elijah Brown, DeMond Williams is going to start at quarterback.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Jessamyn's Washington State Cougars are going to be down in
- 3:57Speaker 2: San Diego to play the Aztecs at San Diego State
- 3:59Speaker 2: 4 p.m. on Saturday. Now on with the Thursday show.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Mark Morrison, return of the back on 93.3 KJRFM. Greg
- 4:07Speaker 2: Bell's out at Seahawks headquarters. That's me. Jessamyn McIntyre, that's her.
- 4:11Speaker 2: She's back in Elliott Bay Studios in downtown Seattle. Hello, ma'am. Hello.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Good morning.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 3: And Mark Morrison is going to have to return to
- 4:20Speaker 3: the MAG at some point.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yes, he is.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Because I am going to get him on this damn show.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Jessamyn's going to track him down and get us. An
- 4:28Speaker 2: ode to him pretty much every day. Mark Morrison's return
- 4:31Speaker 2: to the MAG from the 1990s. That's why we play that.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Ensign Sarah Bell in the U.S. Coast Guard, one of
- 4:37Speaker 2: her favorite songs. Man, the trade deadline is until November
- 4:41Speaker 2: 10th in the NFL, but already two massive all-pro guys traded.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Both teams going for it.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Yeah, when they trade in the NFL, it often is
- 4:50Speaker 2: big stars lately in the recent years. The Seahawks make
- 4:53Speaker 2: their annual midseason John Schneider upgrade with Quentin Nelson, the
- 4:57Speaker 2: all-pro left guard, to begin the week. And then this morning,
- 5:02Speaker 2: the Bears get the guy that for the last few
- 5:04Speaker 2: summers and even a couple seasons that they've played the Titans,
- 5:08Speaker 2: the Seahawks linemen have had a lot to say about
- 5:11Speaker 2: how good Jeffrey Simmons is. When we were in Nashville
- 5:14Speaker 2: for the joint practice, it's two of the last three
- 5:16Speaker 2: summers we've gone back to Nashville when the Seahawks have
- 5:19Speaker 2: had joint practice with the Titans. And the guys come
- 5:22Speaker 2: off the field talking about Jeffrey Simmons. And I think
- 5:25Speaker 2: I mentioned to you, Jess, when we were doing the
- 5:27Speaker 2: show from Nashville, that Jeffrey Simmons was woofing at the Seahawks,
- 5:32Speaker 2: saying that they were tapping out, it's too hot, Super
- 5:35Speaker 2: Bowl champs, huh. He was kind of mocking them, constantly
- 5:39Speaker 2: chattering in the two times they've had joint practice with them.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Of course, the Seahawks have played the Titans the last
- 5:44Speaker 2: two of the last few seasons as well. And Simmons
- 5:47Speaker 2: has been a problem in every one of those games.
- 5:49Speaker 2: He had 11 sacks last year as a defensive tackle,
- 5:53Speaker 2: which is really, really good. Yeah, he's going to be
- 5:57Speaker 2: really a new challenge for Seattle as of this morning,
- 6:01Speaker 2: and their game plan has changed. And John Benton, Brian Fleury,
- 6:05Speaker 2: the offensive line coach and the offensive coordinator for the Seahawks,
- 6:08Speaker 2: they're ripping up some of the things they were trying
- 6:10Speaker 2: to do protection-wise to now fortify the interior. I think
- 6:13Speaker 2: it underscores the fact that Quentin Nelson is going to
- 6:16Speaker 2: get ramped up really quickly to play. I can't see
- 6:19Speaker 2: him not playing just because he doesn't know all the
- 6:21Speaker 2: playbook here in five, six days time before the game
- 6:25Speaker 2: on Monday night. The question remains about Gray Zabel. Do
- 6:29Speaker 2: you move him to right guard, which he has played
- 6:31Speaker 2: more than left guard in his North Dakota State past?
- 6:34Speaker 2: That seems to be the move, which would move Anthony
- 6:36Speaker 2: Bradford out of the starting lineup. Is Bradford on the
- 6:39Speaker 2: trading block between now and November 10th deadline at would
- 6:42Speaker 2: make sense to me. Not sure what his trade value
- 6:45Speaker 2: is in the league. We were on the Seahawks roundtable, 8,
- 6:48Speaker 2: 8 o'clock, with Chuck and Hugh Millen and Anders, and
- 6:51Speaker 2: Hugh was reciting all the PFF numbers about how lowly
- 6:54Speaker 2: ranked Anthony Bradford is. But he's still a Super Bowl
- 6:58Speaker 2: champion who's in his 20s and had been a four-year
- 7:01Speaker 2: starter in the league with a lot of tape for
- 7:03Speaker 2: a lot of personnel teams, personnel staff to review. I
- 7:08Speaker 2: think he would fetch something, and that's John Snyder. That's
- 7:10Speaker 2: probably what he's doing right now is to see him
- 7:13Speaker 2: potentially what he can get for Anthony Bradford. Remember, this
- 7:16Speaker 2: week they also released Christian Haynes, who has started five
- 7:19Speaker 2: games when Bradford was on injured reserve until just last week.
- 7:22Speaker 2: But Haynes is no longer here. He's put on waivers.
- 7:28Speaker 2: They probably are going to try to sign him back
- 7:29Speaker 2: to the practice squad. I haven't seen that that transaction
- 7:32Speaker 2: has actually happened yet. But that's a possibility as well.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Well, we haven't seen the other move either with going elsewhere.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 7:41Speaker 4: So.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's going to be Quentin Nelson on
- 7:46Speaker 2: the left, and they'll keep Sundell at center and put
- 7:50Speaker 2: Gray Zabel back to right guard, which he played a lot,
- 7:52Speaker 2: not a lot, but more than left guard at North
- 7:55Speaker 2: Dakota State. His senior year, by the way, at North
- 7:56Speaker 2: Dakota State, he was a right tackle. He had thousands
- 7:59Speaker 2: of snaps in his college career at tackle, and then
- 8:02Speaker 2: they moved him inside to guard here in the NFL. Yeah,
- 8:06Speaker 2: lots to talk about with these trades. I mean, all
- 8:08Speaker 2: of a sudden, this is a showcase game of all-pro
- 8:11Speaker 2: interior Lineman on Monday night in Seattle.
- 8:15Speaker 3: I mean, I love a battle in the trenches.
- 8:17Speaker 4: If I'm just watching football to watch football and I
- 8:20Speaker 4: don't have any skin in the game, which I do,
- 8:22Speaker 4: I want the Seahawks to win. But if I'm just
- 8:24Speaker 4: watching a football game, take any fanhood or working out
- 8:27Speaker 4: of it, battle in the trenches is what just lights.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Me up inside.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Football coach's daughter.
- 8:36Speaker 4: Well, I just love it. I like a good Mike
- 8:38Speaker 4: McDonald managed game.
- 8:40Speaker 3: I like that.
- 8:41Speaker 4: It's brilliant that they have JSN for all the sparks,
- 8:46Speaker 4: but if you just give me a 6-3 game where
- 8:50Speaker 4: I get to watch good defense, I am so satisfied.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah, this is going to be interesting because two guys
- 9:00Speaker 2: that are brand new to their systems, but have both
- 9:03Speaker 2: been in this league for eight years each. It's 16
- 9:07Speaker 2: years of NFL experience. They're going to play. It's not
- 9:10Speaker 2: like they need to have X amount of days or
- 9:14Speaker 2: weeks or whatever to get acclimated to a game plan.
- 9:17Speaker 2: They'll give them enough that they can figure it out.
- 9:20Speaker 2: It's just a new language. It's like learning, you know,
- 9:24Speaker 2: as Hugh Millen said this morning on the roundtable, it's
- 9:26Speaker 2: my house and mi casa. That's kind of how different
- 9:29Speaker 2: languages are. It's the same meaning but just different words. Yeah, thanks,
- 9:32Speaker 2: Ian Furness texting in. I was elsewhere yesterday afternoon. Christian
- 9:36Speaker 2: Haynes was claimed off waivers. by the Miami Dolphins who
- 9:39Speaker 2: have their own problems on the offensive line. So because
- 9:42Speaker 2: he has starting tape, there was some value there for
- 9:44Speaker 2: the Dolphins. Of course, the Dolphins have their own problems,
- 9:47Speaker 2: including on the offensive line. So, yeah, Christian Haynes weighed
- 9:50Speaker 2: by the Seahawks, as we claim, by the Miami Dolphins.
- 9:53Speaker 2: And Anthony Bradford is now, it seems, the odd man out.
- 9:56Speaker 2: We'll see. As we talked about yesterday with Ian... I
- 10:00Speaker 2: don't expect to go out at practice today and just
- 10:02Speaker 2: be handed the game plan on the interior line and
- 10:05Speaker 2: see what's going on and who's starting where. And I
- 10:08Speaker 2: don't expect at noon when we talk to Mike McDonald
- 10:11Speaker 2: out here at Seahawks that he's going to just reveal, yeah,
- 10:13Speaker 2: here's what we're planning. We'll ask him, but I doubt
- 10:15Speaker 2: he's going to let the Bears know on a Thursday
- 10:18Speaker 2: before a Monday game. who's starting guards and centers are
- 10:21Speaker 2: going to be. But that's the big focus on this game.
- 10:25Speaker 2: All of a sudden, they have two All-Pros who weren't
- 10:27Speaker 2: on either roster at the beginning of the week are
- 10:30Speaker 2: going to often be against each other. Simmons with interior
- 10:32Speaker 2: playing off the guard, either inside, outside, shoulder of the guard,
- 10:37Speaker 2: and now one of those guards for the Seattle, apparently,
- 10:39Speaker 2: Quentin Nelson, the All-Pro, three-time All-Pro. We're going to talk
- 10:42Speaker 2: about Quentin Nelson and Simmons and how rare they are,
- 10:45Speaker 2: both rare in the trades and rare at how they've
- 10:48Speaker 2: been already at their respective positions in the first eight
- 10:52Speaker 2: seasons in the league. The Seahawks, of course, now have
- 10:55Speaker 2: an extra day. They played on Sunday night against the Chiefs,
- 10:58Speaker 2: and then they play Monday night here against the Bears.
- 11:01Speaker 2: We're going to talk about what Mike McDonald's done in
- 11:03Speaker 2: the last 12 months when he has an extra day
- 11:06Speaker 2: or three or ten to prepare. He has had seven
- 11:10Speaker 2: games in the last 12 months since the loss to
- 11:14Speaker 2: Tampa Bay in early October, which actually was also on
- 11:16Speaker 2: an extra day. It was a Sunday game after a
- 11:18Speaker 2: previous Thursday. He had a 10-day break before that. You're
- 11:22Speaker 2: going to hear my questions and Mike McDonald's answer when
- 11:24Speaker 2: I asked him, what does he do with those extra days?
- 11:28Speaker 2: What do those coaching staff focus on? How much does
- 11:30Speaker 2: he get the players involved, or does he leave them
- 11:32Speaker 2: out of that process? And why have they had so
- 11:34Speaker 2: much success? I've got numbers to back up my claim
- 11:37Speaker 2: here about the last 12 months when Mike McDonald has
- 11:40Speaker 2: extra time. He absolutely throttles offenses. Think Super Bowl. And
- 11:45Speaker 2: go back even before that. They're absolute boat races when
- 11:49Speaker 2: Mike McDonald's defense goes against an offense when McDonald has
- 11:52Speaker 2: more than the standard six days between games. We'll talk
- 11:55Speaker 2: about that. 11 o'clock, far and lousy, TSN Canada, the
- 11:58Speaker 2: NFL guy. He's actually going to be here at Seahawks headquarters.
- 12:01Speaker 2: We'll interview him live in person, which we don't often
- 12:03Speaker 2: get to do, but that's because he was down here
- 12:06Speaker 2: last night to cover the Maple Leafs for TSN playing
- 12:10Speaker 2: the Kraken, and he stayed over, and he's going to
- 12:12Speaker 2: be here at Seahawks today. We'll talk to him live
- 12:14Speaker 2: here at Seahawks headquarters at 11 o'clock. We'll go around
- 12:17Speaker 2: the NFL. We'll talk about the Jalen Hurts situation that
- 12:21Speaker 2: we talked about with Jory a couple days ago and
- 12:24Speaker 2: his opinion on what should happen with the league, with
- 12:26Speaker 2: the union, how involved they may be. We'll talk about
- 12:29Speaker 2: the Raiders. They're in free fall now. They were 3-0,
- 12:31Speaker 2: of course, and everyone's singing the praises of Clint Kubiak,
- 12:33Speaker 2: first-time head coach. Now they've lost four in a row,
- 12:36Speaker 2: and Kubiak's answering questions about whether Kirk Cousins is going
- 12:40Speaker 2: to remain the quarterback or they're going to bring in
- 12:42Speaker 2: Fernando Mendoza, but Yeah, the bloom is off the rose
- 12:45Speaker 2: of Clint Kubiak's debut as a head coach in a
- 12:49Speaker 2: pretty quick time. We'll talk about that. We'll talk about
- 12:52Speaker 2: Ed McCaffrey, his dad. Wow. The 49ers, yeah. Christian McCaffrey,
- 12:58Speaker 2: the running back for the 49ers and the injuries. Now
- 13:00Speaker 2: they're starting to come back up to the 49ers. McCaffrey's
- 13:03Speaker 2: banged up in Atlanta. Mike Evans is out now or
- 13:06Speaker 2: was out the remainder of that game that they lost
- 13:09Speaker 2: the first of the season. The 49ers lost. We'll talk
- 13:11Speaker 2: about Farhan's view of what he's been saying all along
- 13:14Speaker 2: was the big problem and the big concern in San
- 13:16Speaker 2: Francisco is all those guys staying healthy again. The Niners 6-1,
- 13:19Speaker 2: the Seahawks 4-3. Jessamyn, I brought this up this morning
- 13:23Speaker 2: with Chuck, but you look at the Seahawks' schedule. In 4-9, 4-5-1,
- 13:28Speaker 2: you can chime in as well on the Tacoma Dodge
- 13:30Speaker 2: text line how you feel about this. If they can
- 13:34Speaker 2: have the same defensive performance or even something like they
- 13:37Speaker 2: did against the Chiefs on Monday night against the Bears
- 13:39Speaker 2: to win this game, Then they've got Arizona and Las
- 13:43Speaker 2: Vegas back-to-back, and then they're bye. That could be a
- 13:46Speaker 2: four-game winning streak to 7-3 heading out of the bye
- 13:51Speaker 2: to the 49ers on Thanksgiving weekend. And I'm going to
- 13:54Speaker 2: show you what happens when he gets bye weeks and
- 13:56Speaker 2: extra time, what he does, including to the 49ers in
- 14:00Speaker 2: the playoffs last year. So all of a sudden, what
- 14:05Speaker 2: was doom and gloom and chicken littles here in the
- 14:07Speaker 2: Pacific Northwest last year, last week, excuse me, That throttling
- 14:11Speaker 2: of the Chiefs has really changed the hue of the
- 14:14Speaker 2: season here.
- 14:14Speaker 3: It absolutely did.
- 14:17Speaker 2: The NFL's weird that way. Baseball, yeah, they play every day,
- 14:20Speaker 2: but there's 162 of them, and one win doesn't really
- 14:23Speaker 2: change the swing of your season.
- 14:25Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 14:25Speaker 2: But man, does it do that in the NFL and
- 14:27Speaker 2: college football.
- 14:28Speaker 6: It does.
- 14:30Speaker 2: It's crazy, isn't it?
- 14:31Speaker 4: Well, it's different between those two as well, because there's
- 14:34Speaker 4: no style points in the NFL. A win is a win.
- 14:36Speaker 4: The record is the record. In college football, throughout the
- 14:40Speaker 4: times that we've seen change, style points actually matter because
- 14:45Speaker 4: there's a committee that gets to say they like a
- 14:47Speaker 4: team better than the other one.
- 14:49Speaker 2: That's true.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Yes.
- 14:50Speaker 2: And you have to get into a committee to impress
- 14:51Speaker 2: to get to the playoffs.
- 14:52Speaker 4: And– But the NFL, you just put up one in
- 14:57Speaker 4: the win column each and every week when you can.
- 15:01Speaker 3: But the thing is, the fans are a little bit different.
- 15:04Speaker 4: And the style points that they put on for the
- 15:07Speaker 4: fans this past week, oh boy, they are back on.
- 15:11Speaker 2: They are. And the tone has completely changed around here.
- 15:15Speaker 2: And a win against Chicago on Monday night would be,
- 15:19Speaker 2: I mean, maybe five and three heading into games against
- 15:21Speaker 2: Arizona at home. At Las Vegas, then the bye. They
- 15:26Speaker 2: will be favored, and heavily so, in both of those
- 15:28Speaker 2: games to go to 7-3 heading to San Francisco. I mean,
- 15:35Speaker 2: we were talking about are they playing for a wild card,
- 15:37Speaker 2: and we talked about that last week with Farhan. Maybe not.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Maybe not. I mean, they get first things first. This
- 15:43Speaker 2: is a tough task with Caleb Williams completing 71% of
- 15:46Speaker 2: his passes coming in here with Ben Johnson, the number
- 15:49Speaker 2: one ranked rushing offense in the league. And now Jeffrey
- 15:53Speaker 2: Simmons from Tennessee over to the Chicago Bears offensive. Think
- 15:58Speaker 2: of Quentin Nelson, right? He's in the AFC South banging
- 16:01Speaker 2: into Jeffrey Simmons twice a year for how many seasons?
- 16:04Speaker 4: Eight.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Last eight, both of them came in the league at
- 16:07Speaker 2: the same year. And now he's traded to Seattle. He's like, well,
- 16:09Speaker 2: at least I don't have to block Jeffrey Simmons anymore.
- 16:12Speaker 2: And then two days later, the Titans trade him to
- 16:14Speaker 2: the Bears. Yeah, you got to do it in your
- 16:17Speaker 2: first Seattle game, actually. Sorry, Quinton.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Yeah, you want to talk about chess. The rest of
- 16:23Speaker 4: everyone is playing checkers in that. That was a very
- 16:26Speaker 4: strategic move. Probably not directed at Quinton, but it was.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Definitely a strategic move. Oh, you got that? Guess what?
- 16:33Speaker 3: We're going to get this.
- 16:34Speaker 7: It was.
- 16:35Speaker 2: It was almost like a I see you're Quentin Nelson.
- 16:38Speaker 2: I'll raise you Jeffrey Simmons.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe it's more like poker.
- 16:41Speaker 2: And now they'll play each other in Lumen Field on
- 16:45Speaker 2: Monday night. 49451, your feelings about the Bears coming in
- 16:49Speaker 2: here in the Seahawks schedule. Is this the apex game,
- 16:53Speaker 2: the game that could be pivotal toward a 7-3 start?
- 16:56Speaker 2: How worried are you about the Bears and Caleb Williams
- 16:59Speaker 2: against Mike McDonald's defense? How reassured, to use the word
- 17:02Speaker 2: I used in the Seahawks locker room on Sunday night,
- 17:04Speaker 2: how reassured are you? You, Mr. Seahawks fan, buy the
- 17:10Speaker 2: Seahawks win 20-3 over the Chiefs. We'll talk about that
- 17:13Speaker 2: at 11.30. We'll read back your text. After Farhan's on, it's,
- 17:16Speaker 2: of course, time for Factor Fiction. Jessamyn's pick on Thursday,
- 17:19Speaker 2: back to the NFL at 11.35.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Oh, boy, it's getting late in the week.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Yeah, slim pickings, right?
- 17:24Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. Not a lot of people were happy with
- 17:27Speaker 3: my pick on Tuesday.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Oh, really?
- 17:29Speaker 3: But that's good because you can also win on a fiction.
- 17:32Speaker 2: You've had winners with fiction. I have. I have. You're welcome.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Doubters, you were correct.
- 17:38Speaker 2: So you had, did you have sub-50% agree?
- 17:41Speaker 3: Yes, it was sub-50.
- 17:42Speaker 2: That's unusual.
- 17:44Speaker 4: But actually, yeah, then if you do agree with me,
- 17:47Speaker 4: which obviously this window is closed for that pick, but
- 17:51Speaker 4: if you do agree with me, that means that you
- 17:54Speaker 4: have a better chance of winning because less people are
- 17:56Speaker 4: in the fact category.
- 17:58Speaker 2: That's true. The odds are in your favor. Remember, all
- 18:02Speaker 2: you have to do is win One time this week
- 18:04Speaker 2: to be entered in the drawing on Monday for the
- 18:06Speaker 2: $ 1, 000 from Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel this week. And
- 18:10Speaker 2: then whoever wins the most, even if you don't win
- 18:13Speaker 2: $ 1, 000 along the way, if you win the most between
- 18:15Speaker 2: the start of the contest last month and now through
- 18:19Speaker 2: December 11th, Army-Navy Friday, you will win $ 10, 000. Whoever wins
- 18:23Speaker 2: the most will win $ 10, 000 from the Lucky Eagle Casino
- 18:27Speaker 2: and Hotel. Up next here from Seahawk Headquarters, we're going
- 18:30Speaker 2: to talk a lot more about There's some historical significance
- 18:34Speaker 2: to the two trades of Quentin Nelson to the Seahawks,
- 18:37Speaker 2: Jeffrey Simmons to the Bears. Just how rare it is,
- 18:40Speaker 2: how rare it is that those two have been as
- 18:41Speaker 2: good as they have been for the first eight years
- 18:43Speaker 2: in the league, and how rare the trades are, especially
- 18:47Speaker 2: what the Bears gave up to get Jeffrey Simmons this morning.
- 18:50Speaker 2: We're going to talk about extra days, what Mike McDonald
- 18:52Speaker 2: does with them, and what the Seahawks, the results are
- 18:55Speaker 2: when they get extra days to prepare for an opponent.
- 18:57Speaker 2: 11 o'clock, Farhan Lazi. You'll talk to us from TSN Canada.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Go around the NFL with him before Factor Fiction at 1130.
- 19:04Speaker 2: All that's coming up in advance of Ian's show at noon,
- 19:07Speaker 2: which will coincide with Mike McDonald's weekly press conference at noon.
- 19:10Speaker 2: All that from Seahawks headquarters in Renton on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Welcome back to Seahawks Headquarters. Greg Bell and Jesson McIntyre
- 19:32Speaker 2: with you as we are every weekday, 10 a.m. to
- 19:34Speaker 2: noon on 93.3 KJRFM. If you don't know already, this
- 19:39Speaker 2: is the show to listen to to win $ 1, 000. We
- 19:41Speaker 2: are way above $ 500. The only show of the four
- 19:48Speaker 2: that is above $ 500 in picking facts. And if you
- 19:53Speaker 2: just pick fact at $ 1, 135, you're going to get the
- 19:56Speaker 2: best chance, like 80% chance here in the last few
- 19:58Speaker 2: weeks of winning $ 1, 000 thanks to Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Where everybody's lucky.
- 20:05Speaker 2: So Jessamyn's up today with NFL.
- 20:07Speaker 3: I am up today.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Tell me about the unpopular pick you had the other day.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Was that Jets?
- 20:13Speaker 3: No, it wasn't, actually.
- 20:14Speaker 4: It was the Titans plus 10 at the Bengals.
- 20:18Speaker 2: That's right. And the Titans just traded Jeffrey Simmons, and
- 20:23Speaker 2: so it goes for Tennessee.
- 20:24Speaker 3: I mean, that hadn't happened when I made that pick.
- 20:28Speaker 4: But about 54% of you agreed that I was wrong.
- 20:31Speaker 3: 56%, I should say.
- 20:31Speaker 4: 56% of people fictioned.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Well, like you keep saying, you got somebody $ 1, 000 on
- 20:44Speaker 2: a fiction pick earlier. I did.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Rude to be wrong, why don't we?
- 20:49Speaker 2: Rude to be wrong. Exactly. Two big trades in the
- 20:53Speaker 2: NFL this week, and they both involved teams playing each
- 20:56Speaker 2: other Monday night at Lumen Field. The week began with
- 20:58Speaker 2: Quentin Nelson, the six-time, okay, let's just lay it out.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Six-time All-Pro, if you count second-team All-Pros, which no one
- 21:07Speaker 2: around the league really does. three-time first-team All-Pro, eight times
- 21:12Speaker 2: in the Pro Bowl, six times in the Pro Bowl,
- 21:14Speaker 2: excuse me, in the first eight years in his eighth
- 21:16Speaker 2: season right now. The left guard from the Indianapolis Colts,
- 21:19Speaker 2: captain of the Colts from Notre Dame, met his wife
- 21:23Speaker 2: in Indiana, and the Colts' interim general manager, Ed Dodds,
- 21:27Speaker 2: who was a former Seahawks executive and scout for John
- 21:30Speaker 2: Schneider here in Seattle for six years through 2016. Ed Dodds,
- 21:33Speaker 2: in his first move since taking over for Chris Ballard
- 21:38Speaker 2: the fired GM in the Colts, his first move is
- 21:40Speaker 2: to deal with his old boss, John Schneider, and send
- 21:43Speaker 2: the Colts probably best player along with Jonathan Taylor, but
- 21:46Speaker 2: Quentin Nelson, their captain, to the Seahawks this week to
- 21:49Speaker 2: be the new left guard here in Seattle. In the
- 21:53Speaker 2: last 50 years, this is what Hugh mentioned on the roundtable,
- 21:56Speaker 2: and I wrote it down because it was really interesting.
- 21:59Speaker 2: In the last 50 years, the only guy drafted higher
- 22:02Speaker 2: at guard than sixth overall that Quentin Nelson was drafted
- 22:07Speaker 2: out of Notre Dame by the Colts eight years ago.
- 22:09Speaker 2: The only guy, college guard, who played guard his entire
- 22:13Speaker 2: time in college. I'm not talking like James Carpenter, who
- 22:16Speaker 2: was a college tackle in Alabama, and the Seahawks drafted
- 22:18Speaker 2: him in the first round to end up playing gardens.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I'm talking college guard, true guard. The last guard drafted
- 22:24Speaker 2: as high or higher than Quentin Nelson, the guy the
- 22:28Speaker 2: Seahawks just got, Bill Fralick. I mean, that's a long
- 22:33Speaker 2: time ago. Pit All-American, former teammate at Atlanta. Of Hugh Mellon.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Three-time first-team All-Pro for Quentin Nelson. Do you know that's
- 22:42Speaker 2: as many All-Pros, Jessamyn, as Steve Hutchinson had in his
- 22:45Speaker 2: entire career?
- 22:46Speaker 3: I did read those stats, yes.
- 22:47Speaker 4: And if you could put someone in the same category
- 22:51Speaker 4: as Hutch.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 22:54Speaker 2: A Hall of Famer. And now Steve Hutchinson had a
- 22:57Speaker 2: huge hand in drafting Gray Zabel. He scouted him, went
- 23:01Speaker 2: to the Senior Bowl on the Seahawks' behalf. the Seahawks
- 23:04Speaker 2: had him as a consultant, basically, for John Schneider and
- 23:07Speaker 2: the scouts and personnel, and it was a huge recommendation
- 23:10Speaker 2: of Steve Hutchinson to draft Gray Zabel. Since then, the Seahawks,
- 23:14Speaker 2: Hutchinson hasn't been working as daily and as intimately with
- 23:18Speaker 2: the Seahawks in the last year or so, so to
- 23:21Speaker 2: my understanding, he didn't have anything to do with this trade.
- 23:25Speaker 2: I think this had more to do with Ed Dodds'
- 23:26Speaker 2: relationship with John Schneider and vice versa, but Man, this
- 23:31Speaker 2: guy in his first eight years, Quentin Nelson has as
- 23:33Speaker 2: many All Pros as Steve Hutchinson had in his entire career.
- 23:36Speaker 2: The other Steve Hutchinson link to this trade, which I
- 23:38Speaker 2: find interesting because I covered this story, the number one agent,
- 23:44Speaker 2: the CAA has a ton of agents, of course, and
- 23:47Speaker 2: Quentin Nelson has three agents, in fact. But his lead
- 23:50Speaker 2: agent is Tom Condon. Where have we heard that name
- 23:54Speaker 2: in Seattle before? Those of us who have been around
- 23:56Speaker 2: a while.
- 23:57Speaker 3: I've heard it plenty of times.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Tom Condon. was the agent who put the poison pill
- 24:03Speaker 2: clause in the Steve Hutchinson free agent contract that got
- 24:07Speaker 2: him leaving Seattle, and that's why he ended up with
- 24:09Speaker 2: the Vikings. Tom Condon, that guy, who was dealing with
- 24:14Speaker 2: Ruskell and Mike Holmgren at the time when the Seahawks
- 24:17Speaker 2: were trying to bring back Steve Hutchinson and didn't use
- 24:21Speaker 2: the franchise tag and use the transition tag, that whole fiasco,
- 24:24Speaker 2: and Tom Condon was Hutchinson's agent and the poison pill.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Remember that whole thing? I had to write that for
- 24:29Speaker 2: the Associated Press at the time. I got here. He
- 24:32Speaker 2: had to play a minimum number of games in the
- 24:34Speaker 2: state of Minnesota or whatever. I had to engineer it
- 24:37Speaker 2: to go into Minnesota. It was absolutely absurd.
- 24:40Speaker 4: It was one of the most engineering I've ever seen
- 24:44Speaker 4: done with a contract. And I got here after that
- 24:47Speaker 4: had already happened, but everyone was still sour about it.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Yeah. There are people who still, when you hear Tom Condon,
- 24:53Speaker 2: are like, ah, poison pills, sneak out and do it.
- 24:56Speaker 3: He did his job. He did his job well.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. That's the agent's job, right? To get
- 25:03Speaker 2: his guy max value and to get paid. And he
- 25:05Speaker 2: did from the Vikings. And that's why Steve Hutchinson left
- 25:08Speaker 2: the Seahawks. Still ended up being a Hall of Famer,
- 25:11Speaker 2: of course. Well, Tom Condon is the lead agent for
- 25:13Speaker 2: Quentin Nelson. I found that ironic, if nothing else. Now,
- 25:17Speaker 2: Jeffrey Simmons this morning traded from the Tennessee Titans, who
- 25:21Speaker 2: are going nowhere again, to... The Chicago Bears, who are
- 25:24Speaker 2: going somewhere. The Bears are 5-2, well, two games now,
- 25:29Speaker 2: one and a half games behind the undefeated Minnesota Vikings.
- 25:33Speaker 2: The Bears have already played the Vikings, lost 9-3 to
- 25:34Speaker 2: them September 20th. That was the day that Caleb Williams
- 25:38Speaker 2: injured his hamstring on a goal-to-go play in the fourth quarter,
- 25:42Speaker 2: and the Bears only ended up scoring three points that day.
- 25:45Speaker 2: They've also scored seven points in their other loss against
- 25:48Speaker 2: the Packers. That was also a game Caleb Williams did
- 25:51Speaker 2: not play because he missed three games with that hamstring issue.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Beside those two games, the Bears offense has just lit
- 25:57Speaker 2: it up. And now they've got Caleb Williams back. The
- 26:01Speaker 2: first game back for Caleb Williams after his three-week absence
- 26:04Speaker 2: with the hamstring issue, he went 30 for 36 against Atlanta.
- 26:09Speaker 2: That's how well he's playing. He's a 71% passer this season.
- 26:13Speaker 2: He was 58% last year. Remember we talked yesterday to
- 26:17Speaker 2: the Chicago Tribune's Ben Briggs. the Chicago tribunes beat writer
- 26:23Speaker 2: for the bears. And he said, that was job one
- 26:26Speaker 2: for Ben Johnson, tasking Caleb Williams this year to be
- 26:29Speaker 2: a more accurate thrower and to not just take deep
- 26:31Speaker 2: shots all the time, but to take what defenses give
- 26:33Speaker 2: you and check down, or I'm going to run shorter
- 26:36Speaker 2: routes for you. Have receivers open for you short, take them.
- 26:39Speaker 2: And he is 71%, five touchdowns, one interception. He's gotten
- 26:46Speaker 2: 12 sack 12 times this year, but as Ben told
- 26:48Speaker 2: us yesterday, seven of those sacks have come since he
- 26:50Speaker 2: come back from the injury. which suggests that perhaps he's
- 26:53Speaker 2: not taken off to test that hamstring. He's been sacked
- 26:55Speaker 2: seven times the last two games in the Bears' wins
- 26:59Speaker 2: over the Falcons and the Patriots last Thursday night. The Patriots,
- 27:04Speaker 2: the Bears, excuse me, have the rest advantage in this
- 27:06Speaker 2: game big time because they haven't played since last Thursday
- 27:09Speaker 2: while the Seahawks played on Sunday night against the Chiefs.
- 27:12Speaker 2: But back to Simmons. When the Bears gave up two
- 27:19Speaker 2: first-round picks, to the Titans today to get Simmons. The
- 27:23Speaker 2: last time we around here know about two first-round picks
- 27:26Speaker 2: for a defensive player, of course, was Jamal Adams when
- 27:28Speaker 2: Snyder sent two number ones to the Jets. That did
- 27:31Speaker 2: not work out at all. And Hugh was reminding us
- 27:34Speaker 2: this morning on the roundtable, when the Seahawks did that
- 27:37Speaker 2: for Adams, there had only been four or five times
- 27:39Speaker 2: in NFL history that a defensive player had been traded
- 27:42Speaker 2: for two number ones. Now it happens again this morning.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Excuse me. That's how good Jeffrey Simmons is. Also in
- 27:51Speaker 2: his eighth season, all pro last year, 11 sacks as
- 27:56Speaker 2: an interior. He's not one of these defensive tackles that
- 27:58Speaker 2: often goes out to end. Teresa Walker, a friend of
- 28:01Speaker 2: mine with the Associated Press in Nashville, and I were
- 28:03Speaker 2: talking about Jeffrey Simmons and the usage, and he primarily
- 28:06Speaker 2: does stay three, five, maybe five technique outside the guard sometimes,
- 28:10Speaker 2: but basically stays inside. So that's going to be the
- 28:12Speaker 2: challenge for the Seahawks interior offensive line. Jalen Sandell, and
- 28:16Speaker 2: we assume Quentin Nelson on the left, and Is that
- 28:21Speaker 2: what you would do, Jessamyn? Put Gray Zabel on the
- 28:23Speaker 2: right back where he was in college?
- 28:25Speaker 3: I think that he can rotate on the interior. I
- 28:28Speaker 3: just wouldn't pop him outside.
- 28:29Speaker 4: I wouldn't put him at center and I wouldn't pop
- 28:32Speaker 4: him outside. I don't think that there would be that
- 28:35Speaker 4: much of a problem with him going from one side
- 28:39Speaker 4: to the other on the interior at guard. And I
- 28:42Speaker 4: think he's massively talented and probably could run every position
- 28:46Speaker 4: on that line. But for my comfort level, I would
- 28:49Speaker 4: want to see him On one side or the other
- 28:51Speaker 4: of the guard position.
- 28:54Speaker 2: The center position is the only one he didn't play, Zabel,
- 28:57Speaker 2: at North Dakota State. Sundell was the center when Zabel
- 29:00Speaker 2: was there. They were, in fact, college roommates. We talked
- 29:03Speaker 2: about that at the Super Bowl in January. But the
- 29:06Speaker 2: only reason that NFL people even think about Gray Zabel
- 29:09Speaker 2: as a center is that scouts ask him to play
- 29:11Speaker 2: that at the Senior Bowl. In Mobile, in January 2025,
- 29:15Speaker 2: he practiced there all that week at center to give
- 29:19Speaker 2: teams an option of projecting him as a center if
- 29:21Speaker 2: they wanted to draft him. The Seahawks drafted him to
- 29:24Speaker 2: be a guard even though he was a right tackle
- 29:26Speaker 2: his senior year. He started 17 games his senior year
- 29:29Speaker 2: at right tackle. He also started at left tackle, and
- 29:32Speaker 2: he also started at right guard more than left guard
- 29:34Speaker 2: while at North Dakota State. And in fact, that versatility
- 29:38Speaker 2: of both outside guard tackle positions on both sides was
- 29:41Speaker 2: another attractiveness that a lot of people had, including the Seahawks,
- 29:45Speaker 2: had Zabel rated so highly. But he has not played
- 29:47Speaker 2: center in a college or NFL game. It would be
- 29:51Speaker 2: a big task, would it not, to ask him to
- 29:54Speaker 2: go to center in the middle of a game week
- 29:56Speaker 2: just because Quentin Nelson has showed up? that all of
- 29:58Speaker 2: a sudden you're going to now become in charge of
- 30:00Speaker 2: the protection calls and syncing your audibles with the quarterback,
- 30:05Speaker 2: Sam Darnold, and all of that in the middle of
- 30:08Speaker 2: a game week. Yeah, Zabel's sharp, but that's adding a
- 30:11Speaker 2: lot to his plate in a short amount of time
- 30:14Speaker 2: to assimilate that, and I don't know that that would
- 30:15Speaker 2: do Sam Darnold and the offense any favors either.
- 30:19Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I'm with you as well. I'm with you
- 30:22Speaker 4: as well. I just want to see how Quentin lines up.
- 30:27Speaker 3: That's it. We're not going to find out. Maybe during
- 30:31Speaker 3: warm-ups on Monday night.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Monday night, about 35 minutes before kickoff is when I
- 30:36Speaker 2: expect to find out if indeed it's Nelson at the
- 30:39Speaker 2: left guard and Gray Zabel at the right.
- 30:42Speaker 3: That move sounds solid to me.
- 30:44Speaker 2: I think so. That doesn't do any favors for Anthony Bradford,
- 30:48Speaker 2: but they would not have traded for Quentin Nelson if
- 30:50Speaker 2: they wanted Anthony Bradford to be here beyond this year.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Let's face it. We talk about Those midseason trades that
- 30:56Speaker 2: Snyder has made, he's re-upped every one of those guys
- 30:58Speaker 2: on expiring contracts. The reason he was able to get
- 31:01Speaker 2: Leonard Williams from the Giants is that Williams is on
- 31:02Speaker 2: an expiring contract. Same with Ernest Jones, who was in
- 31:05Speaker 2: a rental situation after the Rams traded him to the Titans.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Same with Rashid Shaheed last year in the final year
- 31:12Speaker 2: of his deal with the Saints. And now the same
- 31:14Speaker 2: with Quentin Nelson in the final months of his $ 80
- 31:16Speaker 2: million deal with the Colts. He doesn't make those trades
- 31:20Speaker 2: without knowing from the agents what the price is going
- 31:22Speaker 2: to be to retain him. You give up two picks,
- 31:25Speaker 2: even third and fifth round that Snyder did in this deal,
- 31:28Speaker 2: you intend to have him for more than just a
- 31:29Speaker 2: couple months. So the die has been cast on Anthony Bradford.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Can they move him before the trade deadline November 10th?
- 31:36Speaker 2: Maybe net a sixth, seventh round pick, maybe? I see
- 31:40Speaker 2: a lot of you on the text line, 49451, talking
- 31:42Speaker 2: about the comp pick the Seahawks could get if this
- 31:45Speaker 2: is a rental and Quentin Nelson leaves after this season,
- 31:48Speaker 2: and that's true. He would command a third-round pick as
- 31:51Speaker 2: a comp pick, and that would recoup the third-round pick
- 31:53Speaker 2: you're giving to the whole reason you got the Colts
- 32:00Speaker 2: to make this trade as a third-round pick. But, again,
- 32:03Speaker 2: they didn't make this trade just to get comp picks.
- 32:05Speaker 2: They made this trade to have a potential Hall of
- 32:08Speaker 2: Fame card that you're able to exclusively negotiate with in
- 32:12Speaker 2: those contract games after this season. So that's where it
- 32:16Speaker 2: seems to be headed if the precedent holds for what
- 32:18Speaker 2: John Schneider has done recently. 49451, I see Seahawks on there.
- 32:24Speaker 2: I see should Eamon Worry spy Caleb Williams this week?
- 32:27Speaker 2: We will talk about that at 1130. 1135 is Factor Fiction.
- 32:31Speaker 2: The chance to win $ 1, 000 from the Lucky Eagle Casino
- 32:34Speaker 2: and Hotel. Up next, the Seahawks have an extra day.
- 32:37Speaker 2: There's seven days between games this time instead of six.
- 32:40Speaker 2: A Sunday night game to the following Monday. And I'm
- 32:43Speaker 2: going to outline for you what Mike McDonald has done
- 32:47Speaker 2: in the last 12 months. when he has extra days
- 32:50Speaker 2: to prepare for an offense. You're going to like these
- 32:53Speaker 2: numbers and trends, and you're going to hear from Mike
- 32:55Speaker 2: McDonald when I ask him about this and what he
- 32:56Speaker 2: does with those extra days. Farhan Lalji, TSN Canada. We're
- 33:00Speaker 2: going to go around the NFL with him in person
- 33:02Speaker 2: here at Seahawks headquarters at 11 o'clock. All that's coming
- 33:05Speaker 2: up from Renton and Seahawks headquarters on 93.3 KJRFM. Welcome back.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Greg Bell, Justin McIntyre, Ian Furness is also here at
- 33:27Speaker 2: Seahawks headquarters because the Seahawks are first big full practice
- 33:30Speaker 2: day on the field preparing for Monday night's game against
- 33:33Speaker 2: the Chicago Bears. A really compelling game here in week
- 33:36Speaker 2: eight of the NFL season, which begins tonight on KJR
- 33:39Speaker 2: at 515. The Thursday night game this week is Carolina
- 33:43Speaker 2: at the Packers in Green Bay at Lambeau Field. Carolina
- 33:47Speaker 2: is having big issues, especially on defense. The Packers are
- 33:50Speaker 2: starting to right themselves after being pretty wobbly, including on
- 33:53Speaker 2: defense to begin the season. The Panthers at Packers tonight, 5-15,
- 33:58Speaker 2: is the Thursday night game to start NFL Week 8.
- 34:01Speaker 2: And the final game of NFL Week 8 will be
- 34:03Speaker 2: Monday night at Lumen Field. The 5-2 Bears against the
- 34:06Speaker 2: 4-3 Seahawks, who are coming off a Sunday night game
- 34:10Speaker 2: to a Monday night game. So quick radio journalism math.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Sports writer math tells you that's an extra day. Eight
- 34:17Speaker 2: days between games, six, seven.
- 34:20Speaker 3: I love radio math.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Radio math, seven days between games instead of six. There
- 34:26Speaker 2: are some interesting numbers about Mike McDonald when he has
- 34:31Speaker 2: his defense an extra day to prepare for an offense.
- 34:33Speaker 2: This has happened seven times in the last 12 months.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Since they lost to Tampa Bay, when you remember Sam
- 34:42Speaker 2: Darnold near the end of a shootout game, Throws a
- 34:45Speaker 2: pass off the defensive lineman's helmet. It's intercepted. Hands the
- 34:48Speaker 2: Buccaneers the winning field goal. That was actually a Sunday
- 34:52Speaker 2: game after a previous Thursday game, a 10-day minibuy. And
- 34:56Speaker 2: so this week I asked Mike McDonald because I was
- 34:58Speaker 2: looking into the game since Tampa with extra rest. The
- 35:02Speaker 2: Seahawks said this will be the eighth game in the
- 35:05Speaker 2: last 12 months they've played with more than the normal
- 35:08Speaker 2: six days Sunday to Sunday. Seven games in the last
- 35:12Speaker 2: 12 months. They are 7-0. I'm going to run down
- 35:17Speaker 2: the list of those games. They played Houston a Monday
- 35:20Speaker 2: after a Sunday game, the same situation they are this
- 35:22Speaker 2: week against the Bears. They held the Texans to 254
- 35:25Speaker 2: total yards and 19 points. They had Washington last year
- 35:29Speaker 2: after a bye week, their bye week. You remember that game.
- 35:32Speaker 2: 38-14 on a Sunday night. They held the Commanders at
- 35:35Speaker 2: 290 yards. Last year in Carolina... They came in after
- 35:39Speaker 2: the previous week they had played on Thursday the Rams.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Remember the big Rams game, the crazy two-point play with
- 35:44Speaker 2: Charbonnet picking the ball up like a rock and found
- 35:46Speaker 2: in the middle of the street.
- 35:48Speaker 4: Being a very polite person to return it to the
- 35:50Speaker 4: ref with his foot inbound.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 35:53Speaker 3: I should say in the end zone.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Well, that was a Thursday night game. And then they
- 35:58Speaker 2: played at Carolina a couple days after Christmas the following Sunday.
- 36:02Speaker 2: So another 10 days. That game against Carolina, a playoff team.
- 36:07Speaker 2: They held the Panthers to 139 total yards, beat them 27-10.
- 36:13Speaker 2: The playoffs, of course, after they won Week 18 in
- 36:17Speaker 2: Santa Clara, they got the first-round bye. They got number
- 36:19Speaker 2: one seed in the playoffs. When they played the 49ers
- 36:23Speaker 2: after a bye two weeks off, 236 yards allowed and
- 36:28Speaker 2: a 41-6 win. Super Bowl, of course, the bye week
- 36:31Speaker 2: between conference title games and the Super Bowl. I'm going
- 36:35Speaker 2: to say 331 yards for the Patriots, most of them
- 36:37Speaker 2: in garbage time at the end. That was a blowout. 29-13,
- 36:42Speaker 2: and it wasn't even that close. The Seahawks absolutely manhandled
- 36:45Speaker 2: Drake May and the Patriots' offense. This season, remember, they
- 36:49Speaker 2: had the Wednesday night opener, the first Wednesday game in
- 36:51Speaker 2: Seahawks history on September 9th. They didn't play again until
- 36:54Speaker 2: September 20th on the Sunday. The following Sunday at Arizona...
- 36:58Speaker 2: The Cardinals got 151 yards, 31-7 Seahawks win. And it
- 37:01Speaker 2: didn't even play that well, turning the ball over, fumbled
- 37:04Speaker 2: by Janarian Price and so on. And then this past weekend,
- 37:08Speaker 2: that was 10 days off. Because remember, the Seahawks played
- 37:10Speaker 2: that awful game in overtime in Denver on a Thursday night.
- 37:13Speaker 2: They didn't play again until the following Sunday night, 10-day break. Chiefs,
- 37:18Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes, number one rusher in the NFL, Kenneth Walker,
- 37:22Speaker 2: 213 total yards, 11 first downs. Three points by the Chiefs,
- 37:28Speaker 2: the fewest Mahomes has ever had in a Chiefs start
- 37:30Speaker 2: in his entire career. Seahawks win 20-3. In the seven
- 37:34Speaker 2: games the Seahawks have played the last 12 months with
- 37:37Speaker 2: extra rest, McDonald's defense has held opponents to 230 total
- 37:42Speaker 2: yards on average, and the score average, 29-10 Seahawks. Yeah,
- 37:49Speaker 2: the Bears had the rest advantage from playing the previous
- 37:51Speaker 2: Thursday and now flying out for a Monday night game.
- 37:54Speaker 2: But you give Mike McDonald extra time, and he goes
- 37:58Speaker 2: to work on other teams. When I asked him about
- 38:00Speaker 2: these numbers and this trend, this is what he said.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Your team's had extra time. We have the bye week,
- 38:06Speaker 2: the mini bye. You've performed really well. The team's performed
- 38:10Speaker 2: really well. What have you learned in maybe the three
- 38:12Speaker 2: years as a head coach how to utilize extra days? Like,
- 38:15Speaker 2: do you have one extra day this week? What do
- 38:17Speaker 2: you focus most on? Funny you say that.
- 38:20Speaker 8: I immediately thought of the Tampa game last year. I
- 38:22Speaker 8: think that was coming off a Thursday game.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 38:28Speaker 8: It only takes X amount of time to get ready
- 38:30Speaker 8: for a game. So how you allocate the rest of
- 38:35Speaker 8: the time is important. But like when we've, when we've over,
- 38:40Speaker 8: when we've overdone it, we've probably gotten mentally taxed and the,
- 38:44Speaker 8: and the week is drained. And that was, that's really
- 38:46Speaker 8: just the solution for us. So that's, that's kind of
- 38:48Speaker 8: the philosophy that we've been going off of.
- 38:51Speaker 3: So is it off a self scout?
- 38:52Speaker 2: Is it for recovery?
- 38:53Speaker 7: Is it, skill development, do we need to get away
- 38:57Speaker 7: from each other?
- 38:57Speaker 8: I just try to make the best decision for our
- 39:00Speaker 8: team on how to use that time the best.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Do you insulate the players from the extra time prep
- 39:06Speaker 2: that maybe coaches are doing and then present them a
- 39:08Speaker 2: normal week after that, or do you involve them in
- 39:10Speaker 2: the extra day work stuff?
- 39:13Speaker 8: I think it changes based on what season of the
- 39:18Speaker 8: season you're in. Normally that is kind of the rule
- 39:21Speaker 8: of thumb. is like I said it's like we've learned
- 39:23Speaker 8: that you know if we have a great quote unquote
- 39:25Speaker 8: Wednesday great quote unquote Thursday Friday Saturday we can put
- 39:29Speaker 8: a great plan together and play great football sometimes it
- 39:32Speaker 8: takes more than that but felt like we've fallen short
- 39:36Speaker 8: more often than not if we've tried to overdo.
- 39:38Speaker 2: It That's Seahawks coach Mike McDonough my questions to him
- 39:43Speaker 2: on Monday because I was thinking ahead that I'm going
- 39:46Speaker 2: to be writing a story for 923kgr. com about The Seahawks
- 39:50Speaker 2: under McDonald when they have extra time to prepare for
- 39:53Speaker 2: an opponent. They have an extra day this week because
- 39:55Speaker 2: they played Sunday night against the Chiefs and now playing
- 39:58Speaker 2: the following Monday against the Chicago Bears, who today, if
- 40:01Speaker 2: you missed the news, acquired all-pro defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons
- 40:05Speaker 2: from the Tennessee Titans. They've given the Titans two first-round
- 40:08Speaker 2: picks in exchange for the all-pro who had 11 sacks
- 40:11Speaker 2: last year as an interior defensive tackle. It looks like
- 40:15Speaker 2: he will go against... The Seahawks All-Pro they traded for
- 40:18Speaker 2: from the Colts this week, Quentin Nelson, in a battle
- 40:21Speaker 2: royale on the interior of the line of scrimmage on
- 40:24Speaker 2: Monday night at 520. Five and two Chicago Bears against
- 40:29Speaker 2: the four and three Seattle Seahawks. We're going to talk
- 40:32Speaker 2: about this with Farhan Walji next. TSN Canada, our weekly
- 40:35Speaker 2: Thursday at 11 o'clock guest about the NFL, all things NFL.
- 40:38Speaker 2: We're going to talk about the Jalen Hurts situation. Clint
- 40:41Speaker 2: Kubiak's Raiders losing four in a row. Some more injuries
- 40:44Speaker 2: to veterans in San Francisco. And what he would do
- 40:48Speaker 2: with three guards and two spots with the Seahawks. His
- 40:50Speaker 2: opinion on the Quentin Nelson trade. The Jeffrey Simmons trade
- 40:53Speaker 2: as well to the Bears this morning. All that's coming
- 40:55Speaker 2: up with Farhan Lalji next from TSN Canada at 11 o'clock.
- 40:59Speaker 2: And at 11.30, your chance to be a part of
- 41:01Speaker 2: the show. 49451, we'll read back your text. We'll do
- 41:03Speaker 2: your talkbacks on the iHeartRadio app or our website, 933KJR. com.
- 41:06Speaker 2: And at 11.35, Jessamyn will have our latest pick. On
- 41:10Speaker 2: our show's fact or fiction, your chance to win $ 1, 000
- 41:14Speaker 2: from the Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel. All that's coming
- 41:17Speaker 2: up from SeaArk's headquarters on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJRFM
- 41:34Speaker 1: Sports Headlines.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Hello. Happy Thursday to you. Headlines from the Virginia Mason
- 41:39Speaker 2: Athletics Center Seahawks headquarters are brought to you by Frostwood
- 41:41Speaker 2: Coors Light as cold as the Rockies. I'm here because
- 41:44Speaker 2: the Seahawks are back on the practice field today. Quentin
- 41:47Speaker 2: Nelson in the building practicing for the first time today.
- 41:50Speaker 2: The all-pro guard traded from the Colts to the Seahawks
- 41:53Speaker 2: will be on the field today when the Seahawks prepare
- 41:54Speaker 2: for the 5-2 Chicago Bears on Monday night. May not
- 41:58Speaker 2: find out until game time like 30 minutes before when
- 42:00Speaker 2: they're doing pregame warm-ups whether they're It is going to
- 42:02Speaker 2: be Nelson at left guard, Gray Zabel at right guard,
- 42:05Speaker 2: Anthony Bradford to the bench, I think. People asking about
- 42:08Speaker 2: left tackle, I think. I know, the reason they have
- 42:11Speaker 2: Josh Jones, the veteran swing tackle on the roster, is
- 42:14Speaker 2: for this situation. I don't see Zabel moving out to tackle,
- 42:17Speaker 2: although he did play there at North Dakota State as well.
- 42:20Speaker 2: We'll hear from Mike McDonald. We'll ask him questions. You'll
- 42:22Speaker 2: hear the no answers at noon, our time right during
- 42:27Speaker 2: Ian Furness' show. Now I'll pop in with Ian and
- 42:29Speaker 2: tell him what Mike McDonald didn't say. Bears made the
- 42:31Speaker 2: big news in the NFL today. They got all-pro defensive
- 42:34Speaker 2: tackle Jeffrey Simmons from Tennessee sending the Titans two first-round picks.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Two first-round picks for a defensive tackle. Can you think, Farhan,
- 42:42Speaker 2: of a defensive tackle commanding two first-round picks? That's a lot.
- 42:46Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, when you look at what Buckner got, yeah,
- 42:49Speaker 9: you're not getting that.
- 42:50Speaker 2: No. Yeah, that's crazy. There's some historical significance to that.
- 42:53Speaker 2: So now it's going to be Nelson against Simmons like
- 42:56Speaker 2: it's the AFC South again. Here's Nelson thinking he got
- 43:00Speaker 2: out of the AFC South, didn't have to deal with
- 43:02Speaker 2: Simmons again. Now he's going to get him on Monday
- 43:03Speaker 2: night for the Bears. Kraken last night blew a 4-2
- 43:06Speaker 2: late on Toronto at Climate Pledge Arena. And then the
- 43:08Speaker 2: Maple Leafs scored with an equalizer with 90 seconds left.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Then with 30 seconds left, Brandon Montour took a face-off
- 43:15Speaker 2: win by Matty Beneers and put it under the blocker's
- 43:17Speaker 2: side of Bobrovsky. 5-4. The Kraken beat Toronto last night
- 43:21Speaker 2: to end the homestand 3-1. Next up at Calgary, their
- 43:25Speaker 2: favorite whipping post from early in the season on Friday night.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Calgary.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Calgary, as some say. Can you say Calgary if you're Canadian?
- 43:31Speaker 6: No, you get kicked out of the country.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Okay, I thought so. The Sounders lost 1-0 to the
- 43:37Speaker 2: Houston Dynamo at the stadium in Soto last night, and
- 43:40Speaker 2: after 57 years, the Seattle Pilots are World Series champions. Yeah,
- 43:45Speaker 2: I know, they're the Milwaukee Brewers now, but they started
- 43:47Speaker 2: as the Pilots in 1969, played at Lowe's on Renier Avenue,
- 43:51Speaker 2: 6th Stadium. They beat the Brewers slash former Pilots, beat
- 43:55Speaker 2: the Tampa Bay Rays four games to one last night.
- 43:58Speaker 2: First time in 57 years of the franchise's history they've
- 44:01Speaker 2: won the World Series. They lost only two of 13
- 44:03Speaker 2: games this postseason, including sweeping the mighty Dodgers out of
- 44:06Speaker 2: the National League playoffs.
- 44:07Speaker 6: Is there a parade here?
- 44:09Speaker 2: They should. They should have it right down over near,
- 44:10Speaker 2: right past the Lowe's. That's where the stadium was.
- 44:13Speaker 6: Or right past T-Mobile.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Because you're not going to have one. It's far on.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Dropping balls. Just bombs on the Mariners. The Mariners taking
- 44:23Speaker 2: strays for the Pilots. Brewers winning the World Series. Farhan's
- 44:27Speaker 2: Washington Huskies are playing Nebraska. Whoa. 5 p.m. on Saturday,
- 44:31Speaker 2: and the Washington State Cougars are playing 4 p.m. on
- 44:34Speaker 2: Saturday at San Diego State. Jessamyn's pulling me out of
- 44:38Speaker 2: this going to Farhan music, so that's why you get
- 44:40Speaker 2: that music. Farhan Lalji is here in person. Thank you.
- 44:45Speaker 2: TSN Canada's NFL analyst. He joined us every week at
- 44:48Speaker 2: this time. He's usually on a phone somewhere that Virginia, Linden, somewhere.
- 44:54Speaker 2: But now he's looking right at me, so no phone.
- 44:57Speaker 2: He joins us, I'm not going to say in the
- 44:58Speaker 2: Beacon Plumbing Hotline, but he joins us every Thursday to
- 45:00Speaker 2: talk about the NFL. First of all.
- 45:01Speaker 6: Hey, wait, before we get there, with the Huskies playing Nebraska.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Correct.
- 45:05Speaker 9: I'm seeing all these posts about the back-to-back series in
- 45:09Speaker 9: the 90s.
- 45:09Speaker 2: That's right. So. The loudest game ever played.
- 45:12Speaker 6: Loudest game ever played. But here's the, here's a little sidebar.
- 45:15Speaker 6: True story. I bought a Husky seat cushion that day
- 45:20Speaker 6: at that game. I was at that game.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Saturday night game.
- 45:22Speaker 9: Yeah, and I was always impressed with just how nice
- 45:24Speaker 9: the Nebraska fans were. Like, that was always the thing, right?
- 45:26Speaker 9: Even when you go there, they applaud the winning or
- 45:29Speaker 9: the opposing team. And they were in a block. There
- 45:32Speaker 9: was a block of red in the stadium that was
- 45:34Speaker 9: Nebraska fans. But I bought a seat cushion, which I
- 45:37Speaker 9: have to this day.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Really? Where is it?
- 45:39Speaker 6: It's in my car. Like, I just keep it in
- 45:40Speaker 6: my car.
- 45:41Speaker 9: And I have used that seat cushion, which is just
- 45:44Speaker 9: as cushiony as it was in 1992. For every one
- 45:48Speaker 9: of my children's sporting events.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Really?
- 45:50Speaker 9: I'm telling you. This is like miracle cushiony fabric. This
- 45:53Speaker 9: is miracle foam. It hasn't ruined or anything like that.
- 45:56Speaker 9: You know, old man yelling at clouds. They don't make
- 45:58Speaker 9: them like they used to anymore. This is the definition
- 46:01Speaker 9: of they don't make them like they used to.
- 46:02Speaker 6: Because I've had it for.
- 46:03Speaker 9: Like, what, 35 years, and it has kept my ass
- 46:06Speaker 9: comfortable for 35 years.
- 46:08Speaker 2: That was back when Husky Stadium had those old wooden benches.
- 46:10Speaker 6: Yeah, so I had to get one.
- 46:13Speaker 2: Exactly. You used to have to rent them, I think, right?
- 46:16Speaker 9: I think you could, and if you rented it, they
- 46:18Speaker 9: would just leave it in that seat for you, in
- 46:19Speaker 9: your seat, and then you could get up and leave,
- 46:21Speaker 9: and they'd eventually pick it all up.
- 46:23Speaker 2: The loudest game ever played. If you don't know what
- 46:24Speaker 2: I'm talking about, and you're not old enough, it was
- 46:26Speaker 2: from 1992. Ron Franklin and Mike Godfrey, the former pit
- 46:29Speaker 2: coach in the ESPN crew, Adrian Karsten was on the
- 46:32Speaker 2: sidelines with a noise meter, and it was breaking all
- 46:34Speaker 2: these records for recorded football sound on a rare Saturday
- 46:38Speaker 2: night game. They brought in Musco temporary lights to have
- 46:41Speaker 2: a Nebraska-Washington game.
- 46:42Speaker 6: First night game at Washington.
- 46:44Speaker 2: It was.
- 46:44Speaker 6: At Husky Stadium.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Thank you for reminding me. It was the first night.
- 46:46Speaker 2: They brought in temporary lights, and, yeah, it was like
- 46:51Speaker 2: 29-14 or something. They took it to Nebraska.
- 46:53Speaker 6: 133 decibels. Really? I think that's what it was, yeah.
- 46:57Speaker 2: It was loud.
- 46:58Speaker 9: They don't get that loud this year, but maybe if
- 47:01Speaker 9: they can pull out another win here after the Purdue win,
- 47:03Speaker 9: maybe they would.
- 47:04Speaker 2: If Elijah Brown's a quarterback, who do you think he
- 47:06Speaker 2: goes to? You know what?
- 47:08Speaker 9: Good for Jed for kind of messing around until the
- 47:10Speaker 9: end of it. I think he'll use them both, but
- 47:12Speaker 9: if he doesn't play Elijah Brown, it's a fireable offense.
- 47:15Speaker 4: Really?
- 47:15Speaker 6: Yeah, like it's ridiculous.
- 47:17Speaker 9: DeMond Williams has regressed so badly this season, and I
- 47:21Speaker 9: get that it was Purdue and the week before, you know,
- 47:25Speaker 9: Iowa's calling off the dogs in the second half, but
- 47:27Speaker 9: There is no question. Brown gets more out of this offense.
- 47:31Speaker 9: He gets the ball out of his hands earlier. There
- 47:32Speaker 9: is no world where DeMond Williams should be starting.
- 47:35Speaker 2: And he can see over the middle.
- 47:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, and that, yeah, it's been an issue.
- 47:38Speaker 9: Like, we always knew DeMond Williams was great against bad teams,
- 47:41Speaker 9: couldn't function against Oregon and Ohio State. You hoped he
- 47:44Speaker 9: had taken that step this year, but then he couldn't
- 47:46Speaker 9: function against the average teams. It's time to move it forward.
- 47:49Speaker 9: You know, and especially after what happened last year. Like,
- 47:51Speaker 9: if he had a good year this year, he would
- 47:53Speaker 9: have transferred out in a second.
- 47:54Speaker 5: Right?
- 47:55Speaker 6: So, like, what are we even talking about here at
- 47:57Speaker 6: this point?
- 47:58Speaker 2: Farhan Lalji weighs in on Elijah Brown. He's in Lincoln
- 48:01Speaker 2: on Saturday.
- 48:01Speaker 6: Softie agrees.
- 48:03Speaker 2: I think everyone does. Yeah. I think you're right. I
- 48:05Speaker 2: think it's kind of obvious.
- 48:06Speaker 6: You've got to protect your $ 4. 5 million investment, I guess.
- 48:09Speaker 2: What do you make of the Bears, who are already 5-2,
- 48:13Speaker 2: and they're chasing down the Vikings, making a splash move
- 48:16Speaker 2: for Jeffrey Simmons?
- 48:17Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a big one.
- 48:18Speaker 9: And, you know, they wanted to force Buckner earlier, right? Like,
- 48:21Speaker 9: they made a pitch for him. This makes them better.
- 48:24Speaker 9: I think their defense has done a lot of good
- 48:25Speaker 9: things this year, but that's been the one spot. They've
- 48:28Speaker 9: got edge guys. They've got guys at the second and
- 48:30Speaker 9: third level, but that interior push is the thing they needed.
- 48:34Speaker 9: That division has become so competitive. Coming into the year,
- 48:38Speaker 9: you knew it would be competitive. You just didn't know
- 48:40Speaker 9: what the high end of it would be. Now when
- 48:42Speaker 9: you look at Minnesota being undefeated and Green Bay finding
- 48:44Speaker 9: its game again, it's going to be competitive. I think
- 48:48Speaker 9: every piece matters. I think all four teams in that
- 48:49Speaker 9: division are going to make more moves between now and
- 48:52Speaker 9: the deadline to try to improve. But he makes them better,
- 48:55Speaker 9: and their D's been solid all year.
- 48:57Speaker 2: And the Packers are going to win tonight, pick up
- 48:59Speaker 2: another win. I would think so. At Lambeau Field. All right,
- 49:04Speaker 2: the Seahawks' big move. Quentin Nelson, rare for a guy, this,
- 49:07Speaker 2: a perennial All-Pro, a perennial Pro Bowl player, to move
- 49:11Speaker 2: in the middle of a season like this. What do
- 49:14Speaker 2: you think the Seahawks do? And in my mind, they
- 49:17Speaker 2: don't make this move. John Schneider doesn't make this move
- 49:19Speaker 2: if he doesn't think he can re-sign Quentin Nelson.
- 49:21Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, and you've written about it, right?
- 49:22Speaker 9: Just the history of whether it was Leonard Williams or
- 49:25Speaker 9: whether it was Ernest.
- 49:27Speaker 6: Jones or Rasheed Shaheed. He signs these pending guys, gets
- 49:30Speaker 6: a look. Dwayne Brown way back. Yeah, and is able
- 49:33Speaker 6: to make these decisions. So I'm sure there have been
- 49:36Speaker 6: some conversations.
- 49:37Speaker 9: But when we talked about this a couple of weeks
- 49:38Speaker 9: ago and names like Jonathan Taylor and Saquon Barkley were
- 49:41Speaker 9: being thrown out as potential Seahawks ads. You know, you
- 49:43Speaker 9: and I both agreed that this was the logical move
- 49:46Speaker 9: because it could make the run game significantly better. And
- 49:50Speaker 9: you kind of got to ride it out and be
- 49:51Speaker 9: patient for a couple of weeks until Charbonnet and Price
- 49:53Speaker 9: gets back. And I think that's what they've done. And
- 49:55Speaker 9: we'll see which of those two backs gets back this week,
- 49:58Speaker 9: if potentially not both of them. But he's going to
- 50:01Speaker 9: make that run game exponentially better. I mean, the fact
- 50:04Speaker 9: that Anthony Bradford came back and made the offensive line
- 50:07Speaker 9: a little bit better, but There's a massive gap between
- 50:11Speaker 9: Quentin Nelson and Anthony Bradford. So it's just a question
- 50:15Speaker 9: of whether or not they're comfortable flipping Zay Grable or
- 50:18Speaker 9: Gray Zabel this quickly, right?
- 50:20Speaker 6: Like, you know, I mean, he can do it.
- 50:22Speaker 2: He's in the middle of, yeah, not even halfway through
- 50:24Speaker 2: his second season.
- 50:24Speaker 9: Yeah, like he can do it, but can he do
- 50:26Speaker 9: it in a week? That's the question for me, but
- 50:29Speaker 9: he makes them a lot better.
- 50:30Speaker 6: My goodness.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 50:32Speaker 2: Yeah. Everyone in the league was hoping they would trade.
- 50:36Speaker 2: Quentin Nelson to them, and Ed Dodds does it with
- 50:39Speaker 2: his former boss.
- 50:40Speaker 9: And let's not forget, we want to be critical of
- 50:43Speaker 9: Sam Darnold, and rightfully so, but he took five game
- 50:47Speaker 9: sacks back-to-back, or five sack games back-to-back. Some of that
- 50:51Speaker 9: was on him hanging onto the ball too long, but
- 50:52Speaker 9: some of that was offensive line needing to be better.
- 50:55Speaker 9: This makes Sam Darnold better. It doesn't just make the
- 50:57Speaker 9: run game better.
- 50:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it does. I mean, they had Christian Haynes starting
- 51:01Speaker 2: those games, including at Denver.
- 51:02Speaker 6: He's third in the league in pass-pro win rate, right?
- 51:06Speaker 9: As far as pass-rush reps as the snaps are concerned.
- 51:11Speaker 9: I mean, whether it's run-blocking or pass-blocking, this guy's a
- 51:13Speaker 9: top three lineman in football.
- 51:16Speaker 2: Let's hold back Roma Dunze when you look at the
- 51:18Speaker 2: Bears and you see them on offense.
- 51:20Speaker 6: You know, I think that when you look at Chicago's offense...
- 51:26Speaker 6: They haven't really.
- 51:27Speaker 9: Like, I think they want to be explosive, and I
- 51:28Speaker 9: think with Caleb Williams, they will be explosive. That's just
- 51:31Speaker 9: how he plays the game. He's learned how to play
- 51:34Speaker 9: underneath when needed, but in his DNA, it's to push
- 51:37Speaker 9: the ball down the field. And I think within all
- 51:39Speaker 9: of that, they're trying to figure out who those guys are.
- 51:41Speaker 9: They put up, like, 59 points that first game, and
- 51:44Speaker 9: they didn't have a big-time receiving performance in that game.
- 51:47Speaker 6: They just spread it out a lot.
- 51:48Speaker 9: And Odunze... is second on the team in receiving behind
- 51:52Speaker 9: Luther Burden. Burden had a really big game last week.
- 51:55Speaker 2: In yards, yeah.
- 51:55Speaker 9: Yeah, in yards, which kind of elevated him. I think
- 51:58Speaker 9: the one thing with Roma Dunze, you know, and we
- 52:02Speaker 9: remember what he did when he played at Washington, and
- 52:05Speaker 9: he was such a great contested catch guy. And he
- 52:09Speaker 9: could do more than just win contested catches, but that
- 52:11Speaker 9: was the big thing for him, and he hasn't necessarily
- 52:14Speaker 9: found that ability at the NFL level.
- 52:17Speaker 6: My comparable.
- 52:18Speaker 9: for Roma Dunzian when he, when he went through the
- 52:20Speaker 9: draft process was I thought he could be Mike Evans, right?
- 52:23Speaker 9: Fast enough, but not a burner, a savvy route runner
- 52:25Speaker 9: for a guy that had that kind of length. Cause usually,
- 52:27Speaker 9: you know, you don't expect that from long guys, but I,
- 52:30Speaker 9: I really felt that that contested catch thing would translate
- 52:33Speaker 9: really quickly when he got to the NFL level and
- 52:34Speaker 9: it hasn't happened.
- 52:35Speaker 6: I think Caleb Williams will give him that opportunity.
- 52:37Speaker 9: When you look at the throws that he made late
- 52:40Speaker 9: in the game, uh, the last game, he made two
- 52:42Speaker 9: catches very late that kind of kept them going. Um,
- 52:45Speaker 9: difficult catchers they weren't high point contested but they were
- 52:49Speaker 9: throw behinds in tight spots and you know and he
- 52:52Speaker 9: trusted Odunzi to make those plays and I so I
- 52:54Speaker 9: just think that as Williams has come back the last
- 52:56Speaker 9: two weeks as this offense becomes balanced I think Odunzi
- 53:00Speaker 9: is going to find his place in it does it
- 53:03Speaker 9: lead to a big contract which he could potentially get
- 53:05Speaker 9: after this year I don't think so but I think
- 53:06Speaker 9: that I think they're going to want to keep him around.
- 53:08Speaker 2: Farhan's point about how spread out the Bears receiving distributions.
- 53:13Speaker 2: Luther Burden's got 35 catches to lead the team. Then
- 53:15Speaker 2: it's Loveland to tight end for Michigan, 26. Raymond's got 26. Adunze, 24.
- 53:21Speaker 2: And then the tailback, DeAndre Swift, has 22 catches. Adunze
- 53:24Speaker 2: is averaging 16 yards a catch, but no touchdowns.
- 53:27Speaker 6: Well, and then you look at Colt Komet out for
- 53:29Speaker 6: the year.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Yes.
- 53:30Speaker 9: That's going to open up some more opportunities as well. Like,
- 53:32Speaker 9: I don't know that they're going to just try to
- 53:33Speaker 9: plug and play with another tight end. I think it
- 53:35Speaker 9: might mean some underneath receiving opportunities for some of the
- 53:38Speaker 9: outside guys.
- 53:39Speaker 6: And I think that.
- 53:40Speaker 9: between that, condensed formations, which we saw a bit more
- 53:43Speaker 9: of in the last game after Komet got hurt, I
- 53:45Speaker 9: think that's going to open some opportunities up for Odunze.
- 53:48Speaker 6: And you're right.
- 53:49Speaker 9: He's just got to get more targets, and I think
- 53:51Speaker 9: that'll come. He's a lot better this year. I think
- 53:53Speaker 9: he almost took a step back here, too. I think
- 53:55Speaker 9: he's really kind of propelled.
- 53:56Speaker 2: He had a leg injury at the end of last year.
- 53:58Speaker 2: We talked to Ben Biggs, the beat writer for the
- 54:01Speaker 2: Chicago Tribune, who said he doesn't think he really got
- 54:03Speaker 2: back from that last year, and that hampered him. The Vikings, 6-0,
- 54:07Speaker 2: the only undefeated team in the league. Brian Flores, I mean...
- 54:10Speaker 2: What can you say about what he does on defense?
- 54:13Speaker 2: But this offense can't even score 20 points. How sustainable
- 54:16Speaker 2: are the Vikings? You think the bears or the pack
- 54:18Speaker 2: or the lions chase them down in the north?
- 54:20Speaker 9: Yeah, it's not sustainable. They're like, there's no way. And look,
- 54:22Speaker 9: the defense is great. And what's the biggest thing the
- 54:25Speaker 9: offense is doing. They're not turning the ball over.
- 54:26Speaker 4: Right.
- 54:27Speaker 2: Right.
- 54:27Speaker 6: So it's wild.
- 54:29Speaker 9: When you look at the historical comparables in terms of
- 54:32Speaker 9: where they stand for six and O teams in terms
- 54:34Speaker 9: of just getting nothing done offensively, I thought Calum Murray
- 54:37Speaker 9: would be, would be better.
- 54:38Speaker 6: Right.
- 54:38Speaker 9: And you know, they're, There's some metrics that I think
- 54:41Speaker 9: he's showing he's doing some good things at play-action game,
- 54:44Speaker 9: and they're trying to figure out how much under center
- 54:47Speaker 9: is good for him. I think they want to be
- 54:48Speaker 9: under center more, but I'm not sure that's necessarily the
- 54:50Speaker 9: best thing for him.
- 54:51Speaker 6: Gets him closer to the line.
- 54:53Speaker 9: I know you do that to open up play-action shots,
- 54:55Speaker 9: but it keeps him in the pocket a bit more
- 54:57Speaker 9: than necessarily he wants. So, yeah, I don't believe it's
- 55:03Speaker 9: sustainable what they're doing offensively. I think eventually this division
- 55:06Speaker 9: is so good, somebody's going to catch them. They can't
- 55:08Speaker 9: keep winning like this. I would imagine if they don't
- 55:10Speaker 9: lose this week, it'll happen against San Francisco and Mexico City.
- 55:13Speaker 4: Right.
- 55:13Speaker 2: In a couple weeks here, early November.
- 55:15Speaker 6: Can we go to that? Is there a way? Seahawks
- 55:18Speaker 6: are off.
- 55:18Speaker 2: We should.
- 55:19Speaker 6: Let's go.
- 55:19Speaker 2: I didn't accept Seahawks by week that week.
- 55:21Speaker 6: Yeah, we'll take Wendy. We'll take Mary. Let's go. Family siesta.
- 55:26Speaker 6: That would be a trip.
- 55:27Speaker 2: All the writers I know that have gone to the
- 55:29Speaker 2: Mexico City game say that they've been sequestered in the hotels.
- 55:32Speaker 2: They won't even let them out. I know.
- 55:33Speaker 9: And to be honest, I actually had the conversation with
- 55:35Speaker 9: our producers, and they were a little nervous about it.
- 55:37Speaker 9: just the safety down there, and they canceled one of
- 55:39Speaker 9: our soccer trips for the same reason.
- 55:41Speaker 6: So, hey, I'd go.
- 55:43Speaker 2: I'd go too, for sure. 49ers, they're on a bye week.
- 55:46Speaker 2: They're going to get healthy. There's talk that Bosa's going
- 55:49Speaker 2: to come back after the bye. You mentioned they got
- 55:51Speaker 2: the 49ers coming up. They got the Raiders first after
- 55:54Speaker 2: the bye. McCaffrey injured in the Atlanta game, their first
- 55:58Speaker 2: loss of the season, came back and finished that game.
- 56:00Speaker 2: Mike Evans is out. Is this what you said back
- 56:03Speaker 2: in the summer, that the injuries are catching up to them,
- 56:05Speaker 2: or you think they've got a nice enough cushion where
- 56:07Speaker 2: this isn't going to hurt them?
- 56:09Speaker 6: Well, what's their actual cushion?
- 56:10Speaker 9: Well, two games plus a... Yeah, like we say it's
- 56:13Speaker 9: two and a half, but that was a three-point victory.
- 56:14Speaker 9: So if Seattle beats them by four, it's a one-game cushion.
- 56:18Speaker 6: That's true.
- 56:18Speaker 2: Right?
- 56:18Speaker 9: Like that's all that is. It's actually a half-game cushion
- 56:21Speaker 9: in reality. So I think it's there for Seattle. I
- 56:26Speaker 9: know we talked earlier and thought, okay, you know, maybe
- 56:29Speaker 9: this isn't that time, but... Injuries are going to catch
- 56:32Speaker 9: up to them. It's just a matter of time. That's
- 56:34Speaker 9: how it works. And I think they really worked towards
- 56:37Speaker 9: this bye week. Mike Evans, I think it's easy to
- 56:40Speaker 9: make the decision when you can get a two-for-one rest week, right,
- 56:43Speaker 9: one week before a bye. I think Nick Bosa was
- 56:46Speaker 9: close to coming back last week, but they said, you know,
- 56:48Speaker 9: one more week will bye us too.
- 56:50Speaker 6: And that's what they've done.
- 56:51Speaker 9: You know, Debo Samuel, I think they're optimistic they're going
- 56:54Speaker 9: to get him back after the bye. Demarcus Robinson could
- 56:57Speaker 9: potentially come back for them.
- 56:58Speaker 6: So we'll see.
- 56:59Speaker 9: But I just think they're going to be operating on
- 57:01Speaker 9: a knife's edge all season when it comes to these injuries, right?
- 57:05Speaker 9: In the meantime, I think they're trying to build some depth.
- 57:07Speaker 9: When you look at the first month of the season,
- 57:11Speaker 9: McCaffrey's numbers were increasing, but they got black and the
- 57:16Speaker 9: other running backs involved a little bit more. They're not
- 57:18Speaker 9: as dynamic. They can't do as many things out of
- 57:20Speaker 9: the backfield and formationally. as a guy like McCaffrey can,
- 57:23Speaker 9: but this is the type of injury he always has.
- 57:26Speaker 9: It's always muscular. He's just so tightly bound that this
- 57:31Speaker 9: is Christian McCaffrey.
- 57:32Speaker 6: It's who he is.
- 57:33Speaker 9: It's funny, both the Rams and the 49ers had the
- 57:36Speaker 9: exact same issue. A bunch of 30-somethings, you're trying to
- 57:40Speaker 9: manage through injuries. It happened in camp, and it's hurt
- 57:42Speaker 9: the Rams early. It may hurt the Niners late.
- 57:44Speaker 2: And now they get another veteran, DeForest Buckner, who started
- 57:47Speaker 2: his career with the 49ers. He, I wouldn't think, will
- 57:49Speaker 2: have the impact of Simmons, but How much does that
- 57:52Speaker 2: make Bosa coming back, Buckner rejoining the team? Are they
- 57:56Speaker 2: reloading for a run? It looks like maybe this year
- 57:58Speaker 2: only run with a bunch of veterans on defense again.
- 58:00Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, that's the hope, right?
- 58:02Speaker 9: And Trent Williams said as much, that this is our
- 58:04Speaker 9: chance to go for broke. And when you look at
- 58:06Speaker 9: that defensive line, yeah, they had the five sacks against Seattle,
- 58:10Speaker 9: which was ridiculous that Seattle allowed that to happen because
- 58:13Speaker 9: they've got one.
- 58:13Speaker 6: Of the worst pass rush win rates of any team
- 58:16Speaker 6: in the league. And when you look at the players that.
- 58:17Speaker 9: Got sacks, I think four of them were first-year players,
- 58:19Speaker 9: and they weren't like, highly regarded, you know, big name guys.
- 58:23Speaker 9: And all of a sudden they're making Sam Darnold's life hard.
- 58:25Speaker 9: So they needed a guy like this. You need a
- 58:28Speaker 9: guy that can, you know, draw double teams, get easier
- 58:31Speaker 9: matchups for the rest of their D linemen. Because what
- 58:33Speaker 9: we saw as Seahawks fans in that game, that's not
- 58:37Speaker 9: who the 49ers defensive line is.
- 58:38Speaker 6: They need this.
- 58:40Speaker 2: The Buckner's 32. He had four sacks in seven games. Yeah.
- 58:43Speaker 2: The Colts and the Colts aren't going anywhere this year.
- 58:46Speaker 2: You see the 49ers make another move. Lynch is like
- 58:49Speaker 2: Snyder in that he makes midseason moves. Where do you
- 58:52Speaker 2: see the 49ers' potential weakness that they need to fix?
- 58:55Speaker 6: I think they need receiving help.
- 58:56Speaker 2: I really do.
- 58:57Speaker 9: And as good as Mike Evans is when he's healthy,
- 59:00Speaker 9: you're going to be holding your breath with that Achilles
- 59:02Speaker 9: strain all year. You know, and I don't think they
- 59:05Speaker 9: envision Debo Samuel as their number two, right? But now
- 59:08Speaker 9: when he's in the lineup, he is that guy. So
- 59:10Speaker 9: do they believe that getting Demarcus Robinson and some of
- 59:13Speaker 9: these guys back is enough? They might, but I think
- 59:16Speaker 9: that's where they probably need the most help. And, you know,
- 59:21Speaker 9: they're banged up a little bit in the secondary as well.
- 59:23Speaker 9: You know, Ephesians Prysock finished the last game. They cut
- 59:26Speaker 9: Jones to make room for Buckner. So depth in that area.
- 59:29Speaker 9: might be a bit of a concern for them as well. So,
- 59:31Speaker 9: I mean, you know, we came into the year thinking
- 59:33Speaker 9: their biggest need was pass rush, but I think receiver
- 59:36Speaker 9: and corner might be some areas that they could supplement.
- 59:38Speaker 2: That stribling injury may end up hurting them in the
- 59:40Speaker 2: long run by the end of the season. Raiders, the
- 59:42Speaker 2: Clint Kubiaks were 3-0. Now they're 3-4, and Kubiaks answered
- 59:46Speaker 2: questions about Fernando Mendoza. Yeah. What's going on there? Do
- 59:50Speaker 2: you just start Mendoza and begin the era now?
- 59:52Speaker 6: I don't think so.
- 59:53Speaker 9: Like, I don't think they're going to punt on it
- 59:54Speaker 9: this early, right? You've lost four games in a row.
- 59:57Speaker 6: You're 3-4.
- 59:59Speaker 9: I think you wait a little bit longer. I think
- 1:00:00Speaker 9: you kind of owe it to the guys in the
- 1:00:03Speaker 9: room right now to say, hey, look, we could do
- 1:00:05Speaker 9: a little bit more and see if you can get
- 1:00:06Speaker 9: your head above water and stay in the race. But
- 1:00:09Speaker 9: by week 10, right, I think at that point, I mean,
- 1:00:11Speaker 9: if you continue to lose a couple of games here,
- 1:00:14Speaker 9: let's say you're 4-6 through 10 games, I think at
- 1:00:18Speaker 9: that point you know you're out of the playoffs and
- 1:00:20Speaker 9: you make those moves. But, you know, Kirk Cousins hasn't
- 1:00:24Speaker 9: been the problem.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: No, he hasn't.
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: I mean, he's playing at a pretty good level.
- 1:00:28Speaker 9: So I understand why you would make that decision because
- 1:00:31Speaker 9: once you're done with this year, it's all about giving
- 1:00:34Speaker 9: him as much as he can handle going into next
- 1:00:36Speaker 9: year and make it easier for him. But, you know,
- 1:00:41Speaker 9: I think getting five or six games of that late
- 1:00:43Speaker 9: in the year is enough, but we know who's going
- 1:00:46Speaker 9: to make that decision, right?
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: It's going to be Tom Brady.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: Tom Brady will make the call when he thinks that
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: it's time.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: It'll happen. It's true. The Raiders upcoming, they got at
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: the Jets this week.
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: So you win that game.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: But then at San Francisco versus the Seahawks at home
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: in Las Vegas on November 15th at Denver at Cleveland,
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: and Cleveland's suddenly a division leader. Cleveland, of course, playing
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: the Pittsburgh Steelers this week. By the way, I'd throw
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: it in at the end here before we let you go.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: Browns for real. And can the Steelers be this new
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: offense with a 42-year-old quarterback? They're actually pushing the ball
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: down the field now.
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't see that continuing in Pittsburgh.
- 1:01:23Speaker 9: As good as their defense is, I think at some
- 1:01:25Speaker 9: point you're going to reach the limits of what you
- 1:01:27Speaker 9: have with, you know, an Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf-led offense, right?
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:33Speaker 9: So, yeah, I mean, in the end, I think Cincinnati's
- 1:01:35Speaker 9: going to be that team, and.
- 1:01:37Speaker 6: We'll see what Lamar Jackson looks like when he comes back.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: What's going on with Lamar Jackson? Something reports in Baltimore
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: he didn't want to play.
- 1:01:43Speaker 9: Well, yeah, he's got the high ankle, and so, you know,
- 1:01:47Speaker 9: we know those injuries can linger.
- 1:01:49Speaker 6: We know Lamar Jackson.
- 1:01:50Speaker 9: Like, there's certain players and certain quarterbacks that if you're limited,
- 1:01:53Speaker 9: you can still be effective.
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: Lamar Jackson can't.
- 1:01:56Speaker 9: I'm not saying Lamar Jackson can't throw the ball from
- 1:01:59Speaker 9: the pocket, but it's the threat of the run that
- 1:02:02Speaker 9: gives him the time he needs to make plays from
- 1:02:05Speaker 9: the pocket. He has to have all of his skills
- 1:02:08Speaker 9: available or he's going to struggle. Look, I'm not inside
- 1:02:12Speaker 9: his body. He has been a long healer. That has
- 1:02:15Speaker 9: been a reputation for him. He's been banged up before.
- 1:02:20Speaker 9: In the end, when I look at it, I was
- 1:02:22Speaker 9: surprised Cincinnati started as slowly as they did. I think
- 1:02:25Speaker 9: they're eventually the team that's going to win that division.
- 1:02:27Speaker 9: I think the second half of the last game, they
- 1:02:28Speaker 9: were trailing going into that, and they looked so good
- 1:02:31Speaker 9: if they can carry that over.
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: To me, they're the team in that division.
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: Ravens really miss Harbaugh. I think that the whole culture
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: there has changed. It's so different.
- 1:02:40Speaker 6: Yeah, and it's funny because some young guys can come in.
- 1:02:43Speaker 9: And immediately get a level of buy-in like Mike McDonald
- 1:02:47Speaker 9: did here.
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: But I think Harbaugh was their franchise player.
- 1:02:51Speaker 9: As good as Lamar is, don't misunderstand me, it's It's
- 1:02:55Speaker 9: the relationship the two of them had. It's all of it.
- 1:02:59Speaker 9: And you see the difference he's making immediately with the Giants.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:03:02Speaker 6: I mean, they've got a flawed roster.
- 1:03:03Speaker 9: They've already used three different quarterbacks, but he's making a
- 1:03:07Speaker 9: significant difference there.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: Giants may end up being the NFC East. They're going
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: to host a playoff game. With J.J. McCarthy?
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: J.J.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: McCarthy. Wow. It's great to have you in person. Good
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: to see Farhan Lalji, TSN Canada, NFL guru.
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: Let's go to Mexico.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: See you there. Yeah, let's go to Mexico City.
- 1:03:22Speaker 8: See you.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Vikings and Patriots.
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: I'll buy you a Corona.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: At least. At least. At least. Yeah, let's do that. Farhan,
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: great to see him again in person. Thanks to our Leafs.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: I complained to Kraken last night. We got to see
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: him in person. You hear him every Thursday. If you
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: missed that and you just caught the end of it,
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: go to the iHeartRadio app, download for free, 933kjr. com, or
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: our website, 933. KJR.com. Go to the Greg Bell Show,
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: and Farhan will be on the podcast page today. He's
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: on every Thursday at 11 o'clock. Up next, every day
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: at 11.30, we read back your text on the Tacoma
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Dodge text line 4 at 9451 or the talkbacks on
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: the app or on our website, 933KJR. com. And at 11.35,
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: Jessamyn's going to hit us with her latest factor fiction
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: pick on NFL to get a chance to win $ 1, 000
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: from the Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel where every day
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: is lucky. on ninety three point three kj rfm.
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: uh.
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: uh.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: uh... uh... what makes the arts headquarters Greg Bell, Jessamyn McIntyre.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: We were joined by Farhan Lalji last segment. A couple
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: of you were saying, man, who's this dude on with
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: Greg today? 360 asking that. Yeah, Farhan Lalji joins us
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: from TSN Canada. He's the NFL guy who's at all
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: the primetime games all across the country. They send him
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: to Kansas City and Denver quite a bit, too. Comes
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: out in the Seahawks games on Sunday. I sit next
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: to him in the press box. I've known him for years.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: He's actually a member. I think we've mentioned this before, Jessamyn.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: He's a member of the British Columbia Football Hall of Fame.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: Love that. He was a coach, a youth and high
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: school coach in British Columbia for a long, long time.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: Then he gave up coaching. He's still helping in high
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: school coaching near where he lives in Linden as more
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: of a consultant and help because his son, Luke, is
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: at a prep school in Virginia and is getting Division
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: I offers to play college football.
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: Can't wait to watch that.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. He's this quarterback who can wing it
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: and also can run. He had like 150 yards rushing
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: last week in their game in Virginia. He's at a
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: prep school there. But that's Farhan Laws. You hear him
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: every Thursday at 11 o'clock to talk about all things NFL.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: 49451 on the Tacoma Dodge text line. That's a 425.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: Must be a long time listener. Thank God we don't
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: have to listen to his phone cut in and out.
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: Yeah, well, it was much better in person regardless of
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: the phone issues.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: But yeah.
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: 425 also, another 425 has asked, do I think Crosby
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: or Mack? Leo Mack, Max Crosby on the Hawks radar.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: I know Max Crosby is like the favorite fan guest
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: of the Seahawks' next acquisition.
- 1:06:17Speaker 6: I don't.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: I think you're going to make a mid-lower tier running
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: back type move. This name keeps popping up because they
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: had a tryout with him during the summer. Think Najee Harris.
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: He's got injury history, yes. He's coming off an Achilles
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: tear he had with his only season with the Chargers.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: The Giants just released him right after having him be
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: a starter, and he only got a couple carries in
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: the game he was supposed to start. But he would
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: be available at next to no cost, next to no risk.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: If it didn't work out and he didn't prove healthy
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: or whatever, you release him. Think those kind of deals.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: A former four-time 1,000-yard rusher with the Steelers. I think
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: you may see something like that. And then, like we said, Jessamyn,
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: it also depends on when Jadarian Price and Zach Charbonnet
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: come back, which could both happen on Monday night. I'm
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: going to ask Mike McDonald again, hey, is Derion Price
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: practicing today?
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: No, I'm sure he'll be forthcoming. Probably not.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: Probably not. Yeah. But he is eligible to come off
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: the whip. Price has missed the four games, the minimum
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: you need to miss before you can come back from IR,
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: and he has missed those four games now. And, of course,
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: Charbonnet is on the active roster. His 21-day practice window
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: ended last week. He's on the active roster but was
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: less inactive on the game day against Kansas City on
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: Sunday night. Chip in Olympia, friend of the station, friend
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: of the show. Do they keep Bradford for O-line depth
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: while Cross recovers from his high ankle injury? The Seahawks
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: and Mike McDonald haven't confirmed it is a high ankle injury.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: That's been reported by Ian Rappaport. Rappaport's saying Cross would
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: miss one or two games. McDonald wasn't going to say
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: that either. Some of that is gamesmanship, of course, to
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: keep Chicago guessing. I think Josh Jones is going to
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: start a left tackle on Monday night against the Bears.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: That's why they have Josh Jones here. He's been a starter.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: Part-time starter with the Ravens, starter with Texans before they
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: got him. And last year at the end of the
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: season when he needed to fill in when Cross got
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: banged up, Josh Jones was really good. Jones came in
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: at the end of the Chiefs game replacing Cross who
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: missed the second half. I think they're going to stay
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: with Josh Jones. That's his job. That's why he's here
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: rather than, say, move Gray Zabel out the left tackle,
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: which he has played at North Dakota State. You're definitely
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: not going to move the future Hall of Fame guard,
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: Quentin Nelson, to left tackle. Yeah, no.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: I like that. Keep the interiors on the interior.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: 2-5-3. Why didn't the Seahawks put Eamon Worry on Mike Evans?
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: Because Mike McDonald doesn't put even Devin Witherspoon matched up
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: one-on-one on guys. Why does he not do that? Because
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: then that would take Witherspoon and Eamon Worry out of
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: all the other jobs they do on the defense.
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: We saw number three all over the field.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: Exactly. If you devote Eamon Worry to, say, Roma Dunze
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: on Monday night, which they wouldn't do. but if you
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: did do that, then you've taken Eamon Worry out of
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: all the other jobs that the offense has game-planned against
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: and all the other looks that McDonnell likes to throw
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: him in. A defensive end, an inside linebacker, a Sam linebacker,
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: a post-safety, a nickel-slot corner guarding Xavier Worthy down the field.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: If you devote Witherspoon in a similar vein, if you
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: devote Witherspoon man-to-man on their best receiver, yeah, maybe he
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: takes their best receiver out, but then Witherspoon's not blitzing
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: from the edge on nickel blitzes. He's not in run support.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: I mean, there's all kinds of ways that McDonald likes.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: The bottom line is McDonald wants to dictate the offenses.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: He does not want an offense having a number one
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: receiver and saying, I'm going to put my best guy
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: in dictating offense. okay, we're going to have to put
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: our best cover guy on this receiver.
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: He controls the game. He controls the game.
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: He uses this term, and his players do all the
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: time too. We want the chalk in our hands when
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: the play begins, meaning we're the ones to dictate, we're
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: the ones to make the last move that the offense
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: has to react to. That's in a nutshell what Mike
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: McDonald wants to do, and to me that is the
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: primary reason he doesn't devote one guy to man-to-man coverage
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: on him. Another team's best receiver.
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: Makes perfect sense to me.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: You want to win $ 1, 000? Your time is right now.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: We're set to go. Glad you're with us.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: It's your shot at our weekly $ 1, 000. And the $ 10, 000
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: grand prize. It's Fact or Fiction. Proudly presented by Lucky
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Eagle Casino and Hotel. Where every day feels lucky. Fact
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: or Fiction is on. Sports Radio 93.3.
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: KJR FM.
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: Aha! NFL music, shocker. Wait, you know what I was
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: thinking the other day? You're implying that I should be
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: picking only college games for the same reason you only
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: pick NFL games. I cover the NFL. No, I'm not implying.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: You're on the sidelines, and you're technically a Washington State
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: University employee, are you not? Or at least Learfield.
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: Play fly. Play fly. Yes.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: No, I'm not.
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: Employed, but they have a heavy hand in my employment.
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: Let's just say that.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: Okay. And there's the difference.
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: Jessamyn picks NFL because she's affiliated. Maybe we'll use it
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: that way. Affiliated with Washington State University and WSU football.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: She'll be on the sidelines in San Diego against San
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: Diego State and Washington State on Saturday. So she goes
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: to the NFL.
- 1:11:31Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: Are you going J-E-S-S, Jess?
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: I'm not this week.
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: I think I'm going to leave them alone just for
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: a little bit. But I am staying within the division
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: because I'm going to Bills minus three as they host
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: the Ravens this weekend.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: Whoa. Yeah. One of the marquee matchups of the weekend. Yes.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: Tell us why.
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: Well, I looked at the different games that each team
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: has played, right? And I went through and it makes
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: total sense to me that it is a negative three spread.
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: Like that's a pick them, right? They're getting three at home.
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: That means that it's anyone's.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: Yes, exactly.
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: But when I look at some of the differentials and
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: knowing how difficult it is to play in that Buffalo stadium,
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: I don't know if you guys have seen the people
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: jumping off of RVs into flaming tables or not. But
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: that is a contentious stadium to play in. And with
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: the Bills' success so far this year, I don't think
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: the Ravens are going to cut it. I just looked
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: at their loss to the Browns earlier this season. That
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: was a three-point spread. They lost hard to the Ravens
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: last week. I mean, the Bengals last week, I'm sorry. 35-13,
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: and they were at home. I think they're flailing. And
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: for me to look at that and see that it's
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: only a three-point differential, yeah, give me that.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: Give me that.
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: So we talked about the Lamar Jackson issue and maybe
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: even the leadership issue and the vibe issue and the
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: culture issue now that Harbaugh is not in Baltimore anymore.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: So here come the Ravens into the new stadium in Buffalo.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: The Bills flying high. Coming off the rested Bills team
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: against the Ravens minus three.
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: Mention that too. Yes.
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: You may have to be on to something there. If
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: you agree with Jessamyn that Buffalo is going to beat
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: Baltimore at home by four or more points. Text FACT
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: to 49451. If you disagree, text FICTION to 49451. In
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: other words, if you want to win $ 1, 000, text FACT
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: to 49451. If you don't, text FICTION to 49451. You
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: have about 10 minutes left in the window. The next
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: opportunity to win $ 1, 000 from the Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel,
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: where every day is lucky, is at 235 with Ian
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: Furness and then 335 with Dave Softy-Maller and Dick Fane.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: Buffalo minus three at home over Baltimore is Jessamyn's pick
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: in the NFL. I'll have the final pick of the week. Again,
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: tomorrow is our high school football focus. We do that
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: every Friday. Now we're getting into the playoffs here. We're
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: like in week nine already.
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: I know. It goes by so fast with high school.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: It does. It's crazy.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: Because it's like you'll get halfway through the NFL season,
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: and then all of a sudden they're in playoffs and
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: championships in the high school realm.
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: Tomorrow we're going to talk to Shane Keck, head coach
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: at Glacier Peak, and Willie Garrow is the head coach
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: that replaced– the post-Otton era, the legend down in Tumwater
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: High School. Both teams heading toward the playoffs. Tumwater, of course,
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: a power in 2A. So we're going to talk to
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: Shane Keck and Willie Garrow tomorrow at 11 o'clock in
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: our high school football focus, our weekly visit of high
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: school football focus. I'm at West Seattle tonight, the Southwest
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: Athletic Conference right across from G-Cell. West Seattle is playing O'Day,
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: one of the final Metro League regular season games. I'm
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: officiating that one. Tonight at 7 o'clock. Then tomorrow I'm
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: going to be at the King Co. Crown Division Championship game.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: Mount Sai is hosting Bothell. I'm looking forward to that.
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: Mount Sai and Bothell are going to be officiating that
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: game tomorrow as high schools head toward the playoffs. Back
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: to the Tacoma Dodge Text Line 49451 for a couple
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: more before we head to break. 708, can we keep
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: Anthony Bradford for death for offense? Of course they can.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: He's still under contract. If we can't trade him, they
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: definitely will. But I think the Nelson acquisition shows that
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: they weren't now planning to re-sign Anthony Bradford. His contract
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: ends this year. After this season, I should say.
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: A lot of people wondering if he'd be a trade
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: piece for a rental for anybody.
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: But I think, I mean, the trade deadline hasn't happened yet.
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: But I don't know what the value they're looking for
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: would concede at this point.
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: I agree with the 425 who says you don't trade
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: for a Hall of Famer and then move his position.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: Nelson 100 will be in the lineup at left guard.
- 1:15:49Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: You said that.
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. I totally agree with that. 206. Even
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: when they were 3-3, I thought the Seahawks were the
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: best team in the league. Just the turnovers being the
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: equalizer on paper that made them not look like that.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: Defense world beaters just need Darnold to not throw those interceptions.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: That happens. We catch San Francisco and have a shot
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: at the one seed since Minnesota inevitably trips up. Excuse me.
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: All good. Still battling the cold.
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and those things last. Those things last. I'll get
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: you some holes.
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: Exactly. 425 says John Schneider has also lost players to
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: free agencies saying they underestimate the market. Yes, he has.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: including Kobe Bryant most recently. Mm-hmm. Why didn't– oh, we
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: already answered that one. Up next, Ian Frenes. He's with
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: me here at Seahawk Headquarters. He's going to tell us
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: what's on the show next on 93.3 KJRFM. Hi, welcome back.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: Greg Bell, Justin McIntyre, and now Ian Furness joining you
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: at Seahawks headquarters before the Seahawks practice today. And the
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: first time that we're going to see the new all-pro
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: left guard. Yeah. Let's go, huh? Let's go. Let's go. Hey,
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: big win for the Kraken last night. I mean, that's
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: a brand-name win. I know Toronto scuffled last year or so,
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: but they were off to a decent start.
- 1:17:42Speaker 7: They've been really good.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: Yeah, they've been really good.
- 1:17:44Speaker 7: So it's a nice win.
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: Nice win. You can't script it any better. I think.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: Is it just me, or Bannier's winning the face-off there
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: in the end of regulation to set up the winning
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: goal for Montour? Have they gotten better at face-offs?
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: Has that been like an inserted effort?
- 1:18:00Speaker 7: I'm assuming so, but they've gotten better at it.
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: And it was, Montour talked about it after the game,
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: it was not a set play, but it was something
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: they had structured. You know, when Toronto, you know, played
- 1:18:13Speaker 5: it how they wanted to, they cheated and, you know,
- 1:18:16Speaker 5: Eberle got in, I mean, You give Monty a chance
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: to walk in from 15 feet out and wind up
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: and let her rip.
- 1:18:22Speaker 7: There's not many guys who are going to stop that.
- 1:18:25Speaker 7: It just worked out perfect for him.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it was nice.
- 1:18:27Speaker 7: You don't want to blow a third-period lead.
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: But if you're going to do it, you might as
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: well just answer with a 30-second left goal and send
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: the crowd home in a frenzy. So it was fun.
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: Ian was on the call last night on the Kraken
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: TV set, if you missed him. When the puck comes
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: across from Eberle and you see the shots forming before
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: he even shoots it, How do you keep yourself from
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: getting a little too amped up or too premature before
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: you actually say what happened?
- 1:18:56Speaker 5: I guess you've done it enough times over the years.
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: you're kind of reading the play, you know, like you read,
- 1:19:02Speaker 5: I was reading, I was thinking that, I mean, a,
- 1:19:05Speaker 5: he could blast at home. He could a, B miss
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: the net or C I'm thinking more rebound. So you
- 1:19:10Speaker 5: kind of build it up a little bit, but then,
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: I mean, he just, he stepped into that thing and
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: it was good night.
- 1:19:16Speaker 6: It was awesome.
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:19:17Speaker 7: I listen at that point as a play by play guy,
- 1:19:20Speaker 7: all you could do is screw it up.
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: Well, less is more, right? Right.
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: And I can, on TV, it's a little different than
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: whatever it has to do on radio, but on TV,
- 1:19:29Speaker 5: I lay out. We have an incredible production team, and
- 1:19:34Speaker 5: hopefully you can hear and feel it at home, the crowd.
- 1:19:37Speaker 7: And JT does a great job of letting it lay
- 1:19:39Speaker 7: out as well.
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: Do you guys go like the hand signals?
- 1:19:41Speaker 7: No, he was down between the benches. We have a
- 1:19:43Speaker 7: good feel for each other. We've worked enough together.
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: This is the first time he's been between the benches
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: when I've been upstairs, but We have a pretty good
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: feel for each other, and I know when he's going
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: to jump in. He knows when I lay out that
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: he can go, or if not, I'll just pick it up.
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: But on a goal call, what I've really always appreciated
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: about him, and even when Edzo was doing it, I hate,
- 1:20:04Speaker 5: as a fan of sports, I hate when the analyst
- 1:20:07Speaker 5: jumps in over, A, the play-by-play guy, but, B, let
- 1:20:10Speaker 5: the crowd breathe, man.
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: Let it.
- 1:20:12Speaker 7: That was a great crowd last night.
- 1:20:13Speaker 5: There's a lot of Toronto fans there, and you scored
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: 30 seconds left after the deflating goal to tie it
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: up with 90 seconds left. Yeah, I thought, like I said,
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: the only thing I could do at that point is
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: screw it up. And luckily, I didn't. But, yeah, and
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: then JT did a great job. He jumped in when
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: he needed to and talked about the play itself. And
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: what an analyst does is just say what happened. He
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: talked about what happened, like how it happened. He does
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: a great job.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: You know what I thought JT also in that last
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: sequence was really good about? Explaining what a pro play
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: it was to just put the shot on net from
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: the blue line to force the faceoff that even started
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: that whole sequence. Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:20:52Speaker 7: Get an offensive zone faceoff.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: Just pluck it in there and make Bobrovsky have to
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: glove it and you get the faceoff at 37. I
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: was going to pull it out. I've got the.
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: My game note, I saved it. I'm going to put
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: it on social media later. Matthew scores. So I go
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: to the page in the game note packet with the
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: overtime records, and I had the red highlighter out, and
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: I highlighted.
- 1:21:10Speaker 7: It, and it was sitting in front of me. Didn't
- 1:21:12Speaker 7: need to use it after all, which is nice, yeah.
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: When's your next TV gig?
- 1:21:18Speaker 7: Next Wednesday, I do Calgary.
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: And then I think then John takes over for a bit,
- 1:21:21Speaker 5: and then away we go, yeah.
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: Cool.
- 1:21:22Speaker 7: John's got tomorrow, and I got next Wednesday, and then
- 1:21:26Speaker 7: he's got next Saturday, and then they go.
- 1:21:27Speaker 6: To Finland, so.
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: Kraken, the pace slows a little bit here. They only
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: play from Friday and then again on Wednesday. Thank God.
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: I'm tired. I'll be honest with you. I have gas
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: right now.
- 1:21:36Speaker 7: And now we've got to find out what happens here today.
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. We're going to get a lot of information.
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: Let's handicap this. Yes.
- 1:21:43Speaker 7: You ask me the question.
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: I'm Mike McDonald. Well, there's a couple issues he's going
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: to be ducking on.
- 1:21:48Speaker 7: Do the Quentin Nelson.
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: So, Coach, you've got Quentin Nelson. What's that mean for
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: Gray Zabel? You've got three guards for two spots. How's
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: that going to shake out?
- 1:21:57Speaker 7: Well, we'll just wait and see.
- 1:21:58Speaker 5: We'll be on the practice field later today, and we'll
- 1:22:00Speaker 5: figure out what we're going to do. I think by
- 1:22:03Speaker 5: the time we get to Monday, we'll have a pretty
- 1:22:04Speaker 5: good plan, but right now we're just kind of working
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: through it.
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: And I'll look at him, and I'll have no follow-up,
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: although I should be prepared for getting nothing. I should
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: have a follow-up.
- 1:22:15Speaker 7: That's exactly it. Let's see how close that is tomorrow.
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: Is Quentin Nelson going to be your left guard coach?
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: Maybe.
- 1:22:23Speaker 6: We're not sure.
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: He would say maybe this. We're not sure. He would
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: probably say maybe.
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: Like, we're just getting, Greg, we're just getting on the
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: practice field today. You know, we'll be out there for
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: the first time here this afternoon.
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: We'll see what he's got. You can't see any of it,
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: so you won't know.
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: You know, you'll see on Monday. But, yeah, we've got
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: to work through, figure that out. We've got, you know,
- 1:22:40Speaker 5: we've got Gray. We've got Anthony. We've got Quinn. We've got,
- 1:22:44Speaker 5: we're in a good situation right now. We just don't
- 1:22:45Speaker 5: know what we're going to do.
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: You said Janarian Price could be coming back this week
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: from 21-day window could start this week. Is Price practicing? Well.
- 1:22:54Speaker 5: Probably, but we're going to work with the medical guys.
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: If he's ready to go, then we'll get him out there.
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: We've got a few days to figure that out. I
- 1:23:02Speaker 5: know what you're trying to do, Greg, but I'm not
- 1:23:04Speaker 5: going to give you that answer.
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: Every once in a while, he does throw that in.
- 1:23:09Speaker 7: That's true.
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: Just as a little kick at the way out the door.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: What do you got today besides imitating Mike McDonald?
- 1:23:16Speaker 5: We're going to check in with Emanuel Wilson. He's going
- 1:23:19Speaker 5: to stop by here sometime in the next 20 minutes
- 1:23:21Speaker 5: or so.
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: The accidental starter, 100-yard rusher.
- 1:23:24Speaker 7: Good for him, man.
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Exactly. Good for him, right?
- 1:23:27Speaker 7: Let's get him, man. And, you know, we'll ask him.
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: Maybe he'll give us some tricks. There you go. They've
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: had a walkthrough. There you go. A little end run.
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: That would work.
- 1:23:35Speaker 7: I didn't think they'd give me anybody on the offense.
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: I was surprised. So we'll see.
- 1:23:39Speaker 7: I don't think they'll give us anything.
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: But we'll ask him. Please ask.
- 1:23:42Speaker 7: Hey, you know what?
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: There's a role for him here.
- 1:23:45Speaker 6: Yes, there is.
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: It was supposed to be short yardage back.
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:23:48Speaker 7: And so we'll talk to him about everything. I mean,
- 1:23:50Speaker 7: what a huge game Monday, man.
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: And then all about, let's just, what has happened over
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: the last two days is insane.
- 1:23:56Speaker 7: I was listening to the start of your show today.
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: It's like, it's hold my beer.
- 1:23:59Speaker 7: Two all pros.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: It is. It's like one up on each other, and
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: now they're going to play against each other. It's going
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: to be a cross line from each other.
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: It's just insane, man.
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: It is insane.
- 1:24:07Speaker 7: And then, you know, the 49ers go, hey. Forrest Buckner,
- 1:24:10Speaker 7: four sacks from the inside.
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Four sacks in seven games.
- 1:24:13Speaker 7: Two interior defensive linemen traded in the last two days.
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: Yeah. It's crazy. Yeah, that is. You know how the
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: Seahawks do it. We're probably going to get Quentin Nelson
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: in some press conference or media setting today.
- 1:24:24Speaker 7: Yeah, I did ask. I think that's what they did.
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: Ian Furness is up next, 12-3. His Factor Fiction pick
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: will come at 2.35. Greg Bell, Jessamyn McIntyre. We'll do
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: it again tomorrow. Ian's up next from Seahawk Headquarters. Thanks
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: for the text. Thanks for the no-talk backs. Jessamyn's still
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: kind of sour about that.
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: I'll get over it.
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: We'll see what we can do.
- 1:24:47Speaker 7: We'll talk about that.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: Ian's up next on 93.3 KJR FM.
