- 0:00Hello and welcome to another episode of the Christian Reef
- 0:03podcast. Today's guest is a professional
- 0:06speaker and performance coach hailing all the way from Las
- 0:09Vegas and the United States. Her name is Patricia Bonnet.
- 0:12Welcome to the show. How you doing?
- 0:14And well, Kristen, I'm thrilled to be here to know.
- 0:18Honestly. Thank you for agreeing to do
- 0:19this. I know what I can tell just by
- 0:22looking everything I've researched into you that you're
- 0:25very, very busy person. But yeah, let's let's hop
- 0:30straight into it. So you do business mentoring is
- 0:34specifically in the field of personal and professional
- 0:37transformation. So what can you tell us about
- 0:40this? Because obviously these are
- 0:42buzzwords, these are things that people want to hear, but when it
- 0:45gets down to sort of the nitty-gritty, how do you help
- 0:47people and businesses transform themselves?
- 0:52There's a saying that I love so much in the saying is that for
- 0:56things to change we must change. So First and foremost, how I
- 1:01help people is to recognize that results on the outside are
- 1:07created first by what's happening on the inside.
- 1:11So person you mentioned in business, yes, I love helping
- 1:14people in business and in life because every area of our life,
- 1:19it all comes back, all leads, all roads lead to Rome.
- 1:23It all comes back to us and so this is about developing self.
- 1:28I've been a student Of self development and human potential,
- 1:32almost my whole life and I've coached people for about the
- 1:34last 30 years and what I have found for myself, it's not just
- 1:39coaching others profound work for myself in understanding how
- 1:43we can develop ourselves to then create greater success in life
- 1:48in any area of life but also greater happiness and joy and
- 1:52fulfillment. So that we just like going to
- 1:54run into the day and Kristen when you, and I started our
- 1:58conversation before we ever even Got the ball rolling here.
- 2:01We were speaking about how the ups and downs of Life happened,
- 2:05and where I really help people is how to be even Keel.
- 2:09No matter what's happening in our lives.
- 2:12So that we are like, you know, good to go, no matter what life
- 2:16seems to throw to us, as you were kind of outline.
- 2:20That one thing that popped into my head, that I go over, I gotta
- 2:23ask and it comes from the perspective of, as you said,
- 2:27like, you know, If you want to change you got, you got to be
- 2:32the author of your change, and it's very difficult. firstly to
- 2:37acknowledge that to own that to understand that you have to
- 2:40change and also, is difficult as opposed to it to accept that but
- 2:47some people maybe not, I mean, certainly I think with
- 2:49businesses, it's a case of well, we either change or we go out
- 2:53business, so it's kind of that there is more of a say,
- 2:59motivation to actually do make make those steps forward to
- 3:06reach out to someone such as yourself and actually make those
- 3:09moves and also, then to follow the instructions that you would
- 3:12actually give Them. But one of the things I want to
- 3:15know is how much kind of pushback do you get from people
- 3:20and businesses? So obviously you sit down with
- 3:22these people and you're like, okay, tell me what the problem
- 3:25is and they outline what their problem is and you kind of
- 3:28listen, take it on board Etc and then you obviously within the
- 3:31framework of what you do, you give them kind of your
- 3:35perspective on how they can change and what they can do.
- 3:38But inevitably you must be Sort of giving them criticisms here
- 3:45and there in a constructive manner of the sea, but you're
- 3:48you're going to kind of outline. What?
- 3:49Okay, these are your problems right here and in that D get any
- 3:53pushback to get any difficulty. Talk to us a little bit about
- 3:56that. You know, it's really
- 3:58interesting question because where there are Consultants that
- 4:00can come in and look at a business or even a person's life
- 4:03and say, okay you need to put this in order and do this and
- 4:06change this and go here. We do a little bit of that.
- 4:10But as you said it is all about how Showing up who were showing
- 4:15up as where our limitations lie, and many times people can't see
- 4:20their limitations. That's why, you know, that's one
- 4:23of the biggest challenges we have is that we can't see what
- 4:27we can't see. And many times, it's like,
- 4:29imagine this like a Post-It note on your back stuff on your back
- 4:33and in school, when I was little, you know, we had notes
- 4:37that were taped to the back. That said, kick me and the
- 4:41person who had that note stuck to their back, Kicked, but they
- 4:44couldn't figure out why they kept getting kicked.
- 4:47So, what I do is I come in and I shine the spotlight, right, like
- 4:53Shine the spotlight and take a peek of what's back here,
- 4:56because many times people can't see it.
- 4:58And to your point, Christian, the pushback comes from people
- 5:02who are not willing to really, really, really be open because
- 5:08there is a level of responsibility again whether
- 5:11it's business or in life. Like we can't Figure out, why
- 5:14does life keep kicking me? Why do I feel like I keep
- 5:18getting kicked down the road, whether it's in business or in
- 5:21life and I've had times like that in my life.
- 5:23I've been a student of this work and yet where I have developed
- 5:29my muscles is by going through my process and living my process
- 5:35and then ultimately creating a process so that I can help
- 5:40people, you know, rise. Thrive and Elevate their
- 5:45results. But how do you kind of defeat
- 5:48that initial stubbornness from people?
- 5:51Because obviously, as you've said, you've had to work to get
- 5:53to that point. It's progress thing, you know, I
- 5:55can say even in my own life it's the sort of thing where as you
- 5:59recently within the last year I had a kind of stubbornness where
- 6:02I felt like well you know I'm up to this point.
- 6:04I've lived most of my twenties in this way and I feel very
- 6:08mature and then something just comes and knocks you off your
- 6:13soap. A stool and then you're back to
- 6:15square one again and you're sort of re-evaluating working and
- 6:18things again. Yeah.
- 6:19Now, but the difference there is that, okay, taking myself as an
- 6:24example, I looked at that and realized, okay, this needs to
- 6:27change and then you make the change.
- 6:29But then as you kind of outline before, people aren't always
- 6:32willing or able to even see that they're ignorant of the fact.
- 6:37But initially, when you before you get those people to start
- 6:41actually complying and going through that frame, Work and
- 6:43listening to you. How do you get through to them?
- 6:46They wash your process to kind of stop them or kick them out of
- 6:50being stubborn. It's a great question.
- 6:55And what I do is I share with them what the process is because
- 7:00there is a process to elevating. There's an absolute science to
- 7:05how this works. And I believe that it's so key
- 7:08because if we don't know how this works, we're going to be
- 7:12stuck in the push. Whole, we're going to be stuck
- 7:15in, like, you know, the New Year's resolutions that people
- 7:17make at the beginning of the year.
- 7:19And there with her about, maybe two weeks, or four weeks or six
- 7:22weeks, if they're lucky, and then they slide all the way back
- 7:25down. And then they say, you know,
- 7:27resolutions don't work. Do you know, Christian now at
- 7:31least in the United States, but I'm believing around the world.
- 7:34There are less people now than ever that ever really create New
- 7:39Year's resolutions, why? Because there's a belief that
- 7:42it, they do. Don't work and resolutions,
- 7:45don't work if you don't know how they work and if you can't work
- 7:49with them so that they do work because I believe they can work
- 7:53but not in the framework of mindset.
- 7:55So what I do is I really take people through what the process
- 7:59is, so they could realize what is that resistance about,
- 8:03because I was sitting down with a friend not long ago and she
- 8:07was speaking to me about her own internal resistance to sort of
- 8:11things that she was wanting to make.
- 8:13In her life. And she said, I just don't
- 8:15figure out what's happening. You know?
- 8:18Well, here's what's happening. We think that we are the one
- 8:22resisting. When Christian, we're not the
- 8:25ones resisting, it's the patterns, it's the way in which
- 8:29we've done it this far. That is the resistance, that's
- 8:33where the resistance happens. It looks like us Feels Like Us.
- 8:37Sure, wants us to believe it's us.
- 8:39It's not, it's a pattern. So, when we know we're working
- 8:42with Turns when we know we're working with, you know, old
- 8:46behaviors and habits. And when we know how then and
- 8:50what to look for in the transformation process, it makes
- 8:54the transformation so much easier and better because it's
- 8:57fear. That is the resistor is
- 9:01interesting with that one as well.
- 9:02Because I find it does kind of depend a lot on the type of
- 9:06person you are as well. Like, one thing I've learned
- 9:10about myself with regards to this, Is that it's a I have to
- 9:15kind of be presented with the consequences a few times before,
- 9:18it kind of clicked, it depends what it is.
- 9:20You know, like something like let's say quitting smoking, I'm
- 9:25quite partial to a cigarette and I find with that it's actually
- 9:30very easy for me to just quit it because it's just like well it
- 9:35kills you. It cost lots of money, it
- 9:37smells. I mean, there's barely any like
- 9:39real positives to be honest. But like when Find yourself in
- 9:44that pattern. Again, as you said it's like
- 9:47okay. Like, so clearly the way I did
- 9:49it last time didn't work and then you got a kind of, but
- 9:53speaking to my point, the reason I brought up like when you're
- 9:56looking at those consequences and you find yourself in that
- 9:59moment. Again again again, eventually
- 10:00gets to a point where it's kind of too much you know like it and
- 10:05if then that's when it forces you to do something and some
- 10:08people to be fair, can sort of just say, I'm going to change.
- 10:13Then they change and then that's it.
- 10:14But that's I think that's more in the kind of the mine.
- 10:18My new amount of people, I think majority of people probably sit
- 10:21in the middle somewhere where the, you know, they could do it,
- 10:24maybe they could even do it like a month or something and then
- 10:26they start having problems. Like, for instance, I actually
- 10:30do think the whole new year's resolution thing is kind of
- 10:34nonsense as well, but only from the perspective that if you're
- 10:38going to change just do it. Now I don't pick a day.
- 10:40Just start now and work. From this point, I don't give me
- 10:44on. You can like count and go okay.
- 10:46It's been 30 days, it's been two months and that's good.
- 10:49But like, there's no point setting yourself a date because
- 10:53one thing I think we all tend to do is, is we keep pushing it.
- 10:57That will let, okay, let's take the smoking thing as an example,
- 11:00right? So let's say I say, okay, I'm
- 11:03going to, I'm going to quit tomorrow, I'll quit tomorrow.
- 11:07And then a week from then I have a cigarette and I'm like, okay,
- 11:11well, I'll start. Again in two days time and then
- 11:16I'll be like and then you just before, you know it you're not
- 11:18doing what you were supposed to do.
- 11:21That's it. That's it.
- 11:22Christian. First of all, you're exactly
- 11:24right every day is a new day. I believe that today.
- 11:28You know, today is a new day. It's a new dawn, there's a song,
- 11:31a new dawn, a new day, a new life.
- 11:34And it starts right here, right now.
- 11:36So our new year, it's the first day of the rest of our lives.
- 11:39Our new year starts today so Christian to your point.
- 11:43So we could say we're going to stop something and some people
- 11:47can for however long they do, Whether it's a week to your
- 11:51point about the smoking a month or a lifetime.
- 11:55But here's the really important partner.
- 11:58There are people who stop things.
- 11:59Like, let's take drinking as an example.
- 12:02People can stop drinking and they can stop the drinking that.
- 12:06If they don't go to the thinking that started the drinking, then
- 12:13they don't drink, but they still have the same life as though.
- 12:17They did. They still had the same
- 12:18anxieties or they still The same numbing out, they'll find
- 12:21something different, maybe they won't drink, but then they'll
- 12:24find something to replace it. So it is all about going inside.
- 12:28So we can stop the habit. And we cannot do that thing and
- 12:34only until we really get inside and figure out where that came
- 12:39from, and why, and stop the pattern, the behavior, the
- 12:44thinking pattern coming from a different mindset.
- 12:47Will that really be gone. So someone I can stop drinking
- 12:51and and people who stopped drinking, but do not stop
- 12:55thinking that caused the drinking.
- 12:58They're called, there's a name for them, they're called a dry
- 13:01drunk, they're not drinking, but they still have the same
- 13:05mindset. They still have the same heart
- 13:07set. They still have the same
- 13:09self-image. And yet, it doesn't create any
- 13:13more, happiness, Freedom, or New Direction in their life.
- 13:18So we can stop the habit. It's been said that if you want
- 13:21to stop smoking, this is what's been said, you want to stop
- 13:25smoking, you don't have to try to stop smoking.
- 13:27Just never put cigarettes up to your lip and inhale ever again
- 13:31in your life. That's how you stop smoking,
- 13:33right? That's how others have said.
- 13:36That's how you stop. You just don't do it anymore to
- 13:38your point. Chris, did we start?
- 13:40Hey, we just don't do it anymore, but there is a behavior
- 13:44that creates the habit and that's my work is going in and
- 13:49getting To the spot of what is it that really creates that what
- 13:53is it? And usually, it's something that
- 13:56we can't even see for ourselves. So, when I mentioned that, that
- 14:00resistance comes from Fear, it's fear of change, or fear, that
- 14:04things will be different. Like, I'm not going to be able
- 14:06to have my cigarette with my coffee in the morning.
- 14:09Right? I know it's not good, but it's
- 14:11about going inside and changing their and Christian.
- 14:15Would you believe? That there is a study where even
- 14:19people who were diagnosed with lung cancer, like your if you
- 14:25smoke another cigarette, it is going to be the clothes closure
- 14:30of your coffin. And even then, that does not
- 14:34motivate some people teeth and quit.
- 14:37So it's about what's the motivating factor and going
- 14:40going deeper, going deeper inside.
- 14:43And that's the work that I do this.
- 14:46Yeah, it's a turkey one with smoking because it smoking for
- 14:51me is my Achilles heel like I can, I can easily not touch.
- 14:57I'm not only bothered about alcohol, to be honest, like
- 15:00whatever. I can go on a night out and you
- 15:02know, I love my coffee, I think that's probably but in addiction
- 15:04for me, but smoking is like that kind of like forbidden fruit.
- 15:10It's almost like a as you said I coffee and coffee and a
- 15:14cigarette, something like it's always better.
- 15:17In in small doses, but even that one is just too much.
- 15:21I mean, it's and I know that and we all know that, you know, it's
- 15:24bad, we all know that. But why do we do it christian?
- 15:28Why do we do it? Because it's so good.
- 15:30That's why Kristin, we all have it, whether we call it a
- 15:35cigarette, whether we call it potato chips, whether we call it
- 15:39numbing out watching TV whether we call it social media,
- 15:42everyone has their Achilles heel and that's really What is pretty
- 15:47profound even when we recognize that, when you're speaking about
- 15:52taking people through the process, recognizing everyone
- 15:56has one. And that's part of our journey
- 16:00in moving through life is knowing that everyone is going
- 16:04to have circumstances. That really are hard.
- 16:09Everyone's going to have to overcome something.
- 16:11Everyone has an Achilles heel everyone.
- 16:14Even Clark Kent, even Superman. Right.
- 16:16Had an Achilles heel called kryptonite so we all have one
- 16:21it's just now how do we move Beyond it?
- 16:23And go above it and overcome it and Christian hears the news of
- 16:28the day are you ready? That's in your seat belt?
- 16:33It generally has nothing to do with the thing, we think it
- 16:36does. So that's why diets don't work.
- 16:38People are. It's like, I call it wrestling
- 16:42in the Alligator Pit with alligators, right?
- 16:46So, even alligator wrestlers, those people that go in and
- 16:50wrestle alligators, is that a thing where you are?
- 16:52Have you heard of that, right? Like, in the US as of it?
- 16:55Yeah. I can't believe that people can
- 16:57go in and wrestle alligators and even alligator wrestlers can
- 17:02lose. Your life going in the pit.
- 17:05No. Really.
- 17:07You know I've had so would you and I go in the pit you and I
- 17:10wouldn't even go in the pit alligators wrestlers sometimes.
- 17:13Don't make it out of the pit. She's so add a woman one day and
- 17:17said, you know, Patricia tell me, tell me what I can do to arm
- 17:21myself before I go in basically the Alligator Pit.
- 17:26And I looked at her and I said, here's how you arm yourself.
- 17:30Don't go into the Alligator Pit. If you want to make sure that
- 17:33you survived don't go to war and what I mean is don't go into the
- 17:39Alligator Pit. So you know, how do we, how do
- 17:44we think about that differently? It's knowing that it has not a
- 17:48lot to do with the diet, or the potato chips, or the alcohol, or
- 17:51the smoking, or the cigarettes or it has to it.
- 17:56It's deeper. So now we're looking at.
- 17:58Okay. So do we need Psychiatry and
- 18:01psychology and do we need to go back to when we were 4?
- 18:04And what happened then? No, it's about activating.
- 18:08A different part of our brain and focusing on something
- 18:14different. Because if we're focusing on the
- 18:17cigarettes, we're focusing on the cigarettes if we're focusing
- 18:20on the potato chips and how do I not eat those potato chips
- 18:25again, you just Don't put them in your mouth, but wow.
- 18:28How do those bags show up in my pantry?
- 18:31So, it's about activating a different part of our brain,
- 18:35rather than trying to trying to go into the part that's making
- 18:41that. So seductive we don't want to
- 18:44stay there. That's the Alligator Pit.
- 18:45We want to open up a new part of our brain and new neural pathway
- 18:49and create new tracks. We create new tracks of thinking
- 18:54and behaving. Here we'll create new tracks of
- 18:58how we live our habits and our results.
- 19:01Hmm, no, I mean, maybe a right on the while.
- 19:05You would know more than me like I'm just but I mean I did it
- 19:09whenever I look at that. Like for example you talk about
- 19:13learn and the desire to have this thing and the desperately
- 19:16wanted and whatever and like like for instance, when I think
- 19:19about one thing I like to have, sometimes it's just like
- 19:22takeaways I'm quite bad for that and I know I shouldn't keep
- 19:27doing it and in that moment, just before I find myself, just
- 19:33going, ask her and that right there is choice, I mean, I know
- 19:40that I shouldn't do that and I know it's bad for me and it's a
- 19:43waste of money and etc. Etc, etc.
- 19:46But it's like, I don't know. I feel like certain things it
- 19:52comes down to more case of Discipline working on
- 19:59discipline, maybe more than anything else, you know?
- 20:02Like obviously that's going to tie into what you were saying
- 20:04before about building new ways of thinking and stuff, I totally
- 20:07get that but I think that a key aspect of this is principally
- 20:10just working on your discipline, you know?
- 20:13Like your ability just say no when you get offered things or
- 20:18if you have the opportunity or opportunity to repeat a
- 20:22behavior. You know you shouldn't.
- 20:23It's like Yes, yes, your right on your right on with that
- 20:28Christian. The difference is where we say,
- 20:31know is if we're saying it from the side that has the Allure in
- 20:35it, or we saying it from the side that wants to create
- 20:38freedom. And again, if we're saying it
- 20:41from the side, that's wanting the Allure, then we are again
- 20:45back in the Alligator Pit. So you are spot on, is that it
- 20:49comes down to awareness, it comes down to Thinking instead
- 20:56of just in the moment, getting caught up and then taking the
- 21:00action, like this, not going to really make a difference.
- 21:03There's a lot more involved and you mentioned it.
- 21:07Christian, like, sometimes people, it's also part of the
- 21:11process that sometimes, it doesn't stick right away and the
- 21:15moment it doesn't stick and we'll just use the smoking.
- 21:19For example, the moment it doesn't stick and we have that
- 21:23cigarette. Now the judger comes in the
- 21:27judge comes in, you failed miserably, you have failed.
- 21:31You're never going to do this, it's not going to work.
- 21:34And then that's where we have lost all power.
- 21:38When in fact, that's part of the process, you may have a
- 21:41cigarette, it may not stick, but the point is, it is so that it
- 21:47doesn't happen as often and when it happens, you get right back
- 21:51on track, that's part of the game.
- 21:54That's part of the play, that's part of a Playbook, right?
- 21:56So when we think we're going to just go for perfect results and
- 22:00we're never going to smoke again.
- 22:01In our life, we set ourselves up for such failure and in fact
- 22:06that's the sabotage that wants to come in the self sabotage
- 22:10that wants to come in for us to believe.
- 22:12Will never overcome or never move past or never rise above
- 22:15and go beyond, totally agree. Yeah, I think it's about kind of
- 22:19like Trying to create the life. Whether that behavior no longer
- 22:26exists, you know, and it's all that the life afterwards or
- 22:30whatever. And yeah, that is process.
- 22:33That's just not going to happen straight away.
- 22:35You know, like when you hear people say like, oh, why don't
- 22:37you just give up drinking? Why don't you just do this?
- 22:40What? And obviously that, excuse me
- 22:42does come down to ignorance and, you know, not realizing that
- 22:45it's a hard thing to overcome, but it's also, as you said, it's
- 22:49not just about the thing itself or the willingness to accept
- 22:53that, you have a problem and you need to work, that it's like
- 22:57consistency and You know, keeping going to those meetings
- 23:02for example or you know, you keep repeating the processes
- 23:07that you've learned and whatever and it's like getting used to
- 23:09that behavior and you know, it's like it's like anything.
- 23:13I mean I think like the weird thing about us humans is that we
- 23:17recognize that we need to change.
- 23:21We know that and we know that life is all about change.
- 23:27And yet we still try to resist it as much as we possibly can.
- 23:33Like it's almost like rule just born really stubborn, but don't
- 23:37get me wrong. Some people have bit more.
- 23:42Open-minded to change and realize and and, you know, and
- 23:45embrace it. But I think we all we definitely
- 23:49all have that feeling initiative, really?
- 23:52But I'll give you an example. Something really small, my new,
- 23:55but it demonstrates, the point. Like one of my housemates is
- 23:58moving out this month, and I just really like the guy and I'm
- 24:03like, okay, you know, because I know everything's going to
- 24:07change, you know, the vibe will be different.
- 24:09Someone new will move in. He'll move away. let's face it,
- 24:12you know, you see going to stay in touch but you never do just
- 24:15how life is, you know, things happen, sometimes you do, but
- 24:18you know life, but And I said this to my other house mate and
- 24:24he's like, yeah, I know, it's is what it is.
- 24:26And I'm just like, I wish it wouldn't be like that and, you
- 24:29know, and we don't we just saying all stuff that we know,
- 24:31it's not even like we're really trying to reassure each other or
- 24:34be like, oh it'd be. All right, it's just we both
- 24:37know because we're both old enough like now you know, close
- 24:40to the. We just we've embraced that we
- 24:46know that that's the case but it doesn't stop it from from not
- 24:49wanting it you know, know like being comfortable.
- 24:52And then the funny thing about change, especially with bigger
- 24:56things is that, you know, you can never really anticipate it,
- 25:01you know, it never comes at a convenient time or like it just
- 25:05happens and you've got to do your best to work around it and
- 25:09embrace it. Yeah, pretty profound Christian.
- 25:14You of change is always happening.
- 25:15That's the one thing that stays constant is change.
- 25:18Change is always happening, and I'm probably at the front of the
- 25:23line in the Brigade to not like change.
- 25:28I don't like change. I like things steady.
- 25:31I like things to stay the same. I don't love change until I
- 25:37realized. Wait a minute for things to
- 25:40change. We must change.
- 25:41We Have changed. So part of the process is once
- 25:45we realized that when we embrace it versus fight, it is so much
- 25:49easier and that actually gives us the lift to help to rise
- 25:54above and go beyond any of that stuff that comes up.
- 26:00When change happens this morning this morning, I have a new
- 26:04coaching certification class because I do continuing
- 26:09education. So I just started something.
- 26:11Thing this morning and I've been in it for seven weeks and they
- 26:14just upgraded us this morning and when I went to my app,
- 26:19everything was gone, everything changed.
- 26:21It was not where it used to be. And for me, it's like,
- 26:24scrambling me, right? I call it.
- 26:26The shake and snow globe. It's like shook me, right?
- 26:29But when we realize, ah, this is for the good, so that's a
- 26:33process. That's a muscle.
- 26:35That's a muscle to build to realize.
- 26:39See change happens. I don't like change when change.
- 26:41Happens. I'm going to get shaken for a
- 26:43second and then I'm going to be able to know how to bring myself
- 26:46back to the navigate the change. That's a muscle that we can
- 26:51build into your point, Christian only until people are knocked
- 26:57down or shaken. Enough, will they desire?
- 27:00The change? And once they are in the midst
- 27:04of the change, the key is to know the process.
- 27:07Stay with it and work with somebody, if we could do it on
- 27:11our own, we would Have done it already on our own.
- 27:13So this is why, you know, I'm a big advocate for Coach is not
- 27:16because I am one but because for about the last 30 years, I've
- 27:20had one or two or three right now, I have three coaches that I
- 27:24work with. Not because I'm, you know,
- 27:28remedial, I've been working on this but because I have a desire
- 27:32to really rise. I now I'm dedicated to how far
- 27:36can I go. What is my potential?
- 27:39Because what I know is the deeper, I go into my potential,
- 27:43the more people I can help reach theirs.
- 27:47How different question in mind. But I will just continue that
- 27:50point. I think I've had quite a few
- 27:53different guests on the show. In, you know, let's say, various
- 27:58distant different, sort of lines of work to yourself, you know,
- 28:02like for instance, like therapists psychologists Etc.
- 28:05And they all seem to have this unique, you all have this thing
- 28:09in common of like, Let's even know, I might be an expert in my
- 28:13field. I'm still going to learn.
- 28:16I'm still going to have people teach me and I find that like a
- 28:19really fascinating concept. Like for instance I had a guest
- 28:21on the show Once who was a relationship counselor and she'd
- 28:25been doing it for like 30 years and she was still getting
- 28:28marriage counseling for her marriage even though they were
- 28:31happily married and had been for a long time and she said like
- 28:34it's just good to kind of keep it going and just kind of But
- 28:38she found positives in it and I just looked at that.
- 28:41I like, it's just a different way of approaching it really.
- 28:44And it keeps it in a positive space and allows for growth.
- 28:50And I think, because I think that's the thing, isn't it?
- 28:51I think we get to a certain point where we feel very
- 28:54comfortable with things and we feel like we kind of know it or
- 28:57not. Course, that's nonsense we know
- 28:59nothing. There's always things to learn,
- 29:02but I don't know, I just, I just find that that whole concept
- 29:05interesting in a nutshell, but One thing I did want to kind of
- 29:09ask you about with regards to change, or at least sort of talk
- 29:13to you about. Is this idea that, you know,
- 29:15yes, change is something. We have to embrace, and it's
- 29:19inevitable, and it's a part of life.
- 29:23The see, what do you do when things don't change for the
- 29:26better, they change for the worse?
- 29:29Now, I'll say my opinion on this, before I hand over to you,
- 29:33is that I've kind of found myself understanding that you
- 29:38have to get to a point where You don't panic when things go bad
- 29:45and you try your very best. To like continue being yourself
- 29:52and continue being calm during that, you know, that time.
- 29:57But the thing I want to know from you is less say that period
- 30:03lasts longer than we expected less.
- 30:05Say it's not a short-term thing. Like it lasts.
- 30:08Six months a year. What do you do in those
- 30:11situations? How do you keep going?
- 30:15Oh my gosh. This is a really big bright.
- 30:17This is a big, big. Question and it's a great, it's
- 30:22really a great one because it's very much of what we spoke about
- 30:25coming in is that things will happen.
- 30:27We have these ups and downs and when we speak about change right
- 30:32now in our world, in our world, we are in the midst of some of
- 30:38the most profound changes in some of the most Rocky times
- 30:42that we've ever lived ever in our lifetimes and we're all
- 30:48doing it at the same time. Time.
- 30:50It's not just one country or one set of people everyone on the
- 30:54globe right now is in the midst of a major reset and that's
- 31:00changed. That's change.
- 31:02So it comes down to this idea that it's who we're showing up
- 31:08as who were being no matter what's happening around us.
- 31:14And where many may think that okay Patricia, you know sounds
- 31:18good, you know, maybe you were just born positive.
- 31:23I want to share with you the reason that I believe so
- 31:26wholeheartedly and what I do and why staying calm especially in
- 31:32the midst of chaos is so important is because of some of
- 31:36the opportunities I've had in my own life.
- 31:40Twenty years ago, I was diagnosed with a
- 31:43life-threatening disease. Well, I was 30 years old and at
- 31:50the peak like, the prime professionally, I was at the top
- 31:55of my game and I had been working with a coach for
- 31:59business development and then diagnosed and it was as if in a
- 32:05day in a moment, like, the rug felt like it got pulled right
- 32:09out from under me, like everything.
- 32:12Just Wasn't supposed to be happening to me.
- 32:16And that was something that in a very short time, span a big
- 32:22thing happened and so it wasn't going to change overnight.
- 32:27And so, how did I what I'm hearing you say is when we have
- 32:30big things happen? What look like out there?
- 32:33How do we keep our footing? How do we keep our grounding?
- 32:36And a lot of it has to do with mindset.
- 32:40It has to do with where will we be?
- 32:43How will we set ourselves up, who will we show up as well?
- 32:48We're going through this that Adventure.
- 32:50That Journey For Me, lasted about a year and a half.
- 32:55And so when I had ultimately come down to a doctor say, you
- 33:01know, where you are in this, you better go home and pray for a
- 33:04miracle because the chances of making it our much Slimmer, then
- 33:12the alternative like a narrow margin to make it to the other
- 33:16side. The fortunately I've been
- 33:20working in this area. I've been working in this Arena.
- 33:22I've been working with a coach In a formula for success as it
- 33:29related to business and in business I didn't have a
- 33:32business degree. I didn't even have a college
- 33:34education. I didn't have business
- 33:36experience and yet, I made it to the top of a company and an
- 33:41entire industry in two years. So we knew that that formula
- 33:46worked for that. And then when this diagnosis
- 33:50happened, my husband and I sat together and we thought, okay,
- 33:53if it created those kind of results.
- 33:55Results in that area of Life. Wonder what that formula would
- 33:58do in this area of life. And you mentioned that
- 34:02Christian, the idea that when we are going through some really
- 34:06Rocky times, one of the very first, whether we're trying to
- 34:10change smoking to a healthy lifestyle or whether we're
- 34:15wanting the edge so that we can stay alive.
- 34:19The number one he is vision. Creating a vision, creating a
- 34:27vision of what could be possible, a vision of what and
- 34:31where we could be on the other side of all of this and then
- 34:36coming from the vision. So it's not just hoping like
- 34:39Pollyanna. I hope that I live to tell about
- 34:42it. The moment that that doctor said
- 34:44that to me and again, I have had some muscles built.
- 34:48So I already had some muscles built.
- 34:50I already work with a coach. But the moment that doctor said
- 34:54that to me, I had two choices. I could buy into his belief or I
- 35:00could create my own. And my husband said to me, will
- 35:05you buy into his belief? Because if I bought into his
- 35:08belief, the chances of me, not being here. 20 years later would
- 35:16be far different Belief and where will we set ourselves up?
- 35:23So I immediately created a belief that hey, even if he told
- 35:29me, it wasn't possible. I knew that I had a source that
- 35:34I believed in that was a miracle worker that I could be one of
- 35:37the first, even if the doctor told me, you have zero chance.
- 35:42I would believe in miracles. Because otherwise I might as
- 35:47well just exit stage left, right?
- 35:50So I created a vision and in that moment it was easy because
- 35:53all I had to ask myself is where will I be on the other side of
- 35:57this? And I created a vision for where
- 36:00I would be on the other side of this which again was one of the
- 36:05hardest. Physically, mentally,
- 36:09emotionally, spiritually, or the hardest things I've ever been
- 36:13through in my life. And so, how did I do it?
- 36:17That's what people ask me. How did you do it?
- 36:20Is that mindset and mental Fitness?
- 36:24And then I showed up and then I did the things necessary to move
- 36:28through. And, and what I knew is that,
- 36:32whether I made it or I didn't then, All would be well.
- 36:37So there was a sense of being really quite relaxed through the
- 36:42process because my faith was so high and knowing that no matter
- 36:46what all would be. Well, so to your question, you
- 36:50know, things happen, things happen, like, why does it get
- 36:55worse before? It gets better, Christian
- 36:57things, get worse. Many times before they get
- 37:02better even where we are on the globe right now.
- 37:05In the planet and where we are in the world.
- 37:09When we take a forty thousand foot View and realize that some
- 37:14of the things that are happening, I believe my belief
- 37:17is that we could believe that only bad can happen from this.
- 37:21Or we could believe that there could be good, there could be
- 37:26even if we could just be slightly open to the fact that
- 37:28there could be good here. And how will we mine this time?
- 37:35To be a part of that. How will we mine, this time, who
- 37:40will we be? How will we show up?
- 37:42What will we do to be part of the solution?
- 37:45Even if we're not exactly where in the world things are
- 37:48happening, we have the opportunity.
- 37:50You and I today in this conversation have the
- 37:52opportunity to create a brighter space and place.
- 37:58And again, I'm very aware I'm hearing people like, oh, you
- 38:02know, just positive thinking, just you being happy is going to
- 38:06make a difference. Yeah, it's the beginning.
- 38:10So it is a much deeper conversation but to your
- 38:14question, what happens when all hell breaks loose, and it looks
- 38:18like we're not, we might not make it out alive.
- 38:24Is. Create a mindset, create a
- 38:28vision. And here's the most important
- 38:30thing about Vision, our results, this is big, fasten your seat
- 38:35belts. Everyone, our results are
- 38:38determined by how we show up, not just what happens to us, but
- 38:44how we will show up in the midst of what's Happening.
- 38:48That's what creates the results finally on the outcome.
- 38:52So, when I was diagnosed initially, you know, someone
- 38:55said it's not what happens. To you.
- 38:57It's what you take from what's Happening and what you will
- 39:02create from what's Happening and how you will use it for the
- 39:06good. And that's how each and every
- 39:08one of us have a ability in this moment.
- 39:12How will we take what's happening to us?
- 39:15And how will we mine, the good and create this for the
- 39:20betterment of all for ourselves and for all?
- 39:25So that's an awfully long. Wrong answer Christian to your
- 39:28question but did that help from my perspective of how we can
- 39:33move through times in which we find very challenging at comes
- 39:38back to how we can set ourselves up every day and come from that
- 39:43calm confidence. I call it a calm confidence so
- 39:47that no matter what's happening in the world.
- 39:49No matter what's happening or life, the moment we can begin to
- 39:53believe it's possible that good could come from this.
- 39:56And then get interested in the good that could come.
- 40:00That is then the path in which we're on not fight it embrace it
- 40:05and find the good in it. Wow.
- 40:13Well I can say is It's amazing And thank you so much for
- 40:17sharing. I know for a fact that everyone
- 40:21list in will Be very inspired by that.
- 40:26I think that It's especially difficult in a situation like
- 40:32that. To not give in to fear and to
- 40:38realize, okay, I need to do something about this and, you
- 40:43know, I'll dress some of what you said.
- 40:46I don't think it's, they're very difficult for me to follow this.
- 40:49I'll do my best. you'd already got yourself up to that point,
- 40:55you know, clearly, you know you'd You'd face you you would
- 41:00have faced a lot of difficulties getting to the top because, you
- 41:04know, business is hard, you know, business is ruthless, it's
- 41:07it's it's a special kind of Beast and, you know, you got to
- 41:12be tough and you've got to be resilient and that that's got
- 41:15what got you, this success. When you got to that point at
- 41:18that point, Then to be told something like that, I mean, as
- 41:22you say, it does kind of that kind of come down to two
- 41:24choices. It's like, well, do I give up or
- 41:26do I keep going? And it's like the thing that
- 41:30most amazes me most. with everything that you said and you
- 41:34know, just put myself in your shoes for a second.
- 41:39The most amazing thing I think about that is The strength and
- 41:46courage you showed. To continue going, despite it
- 41:51being scary. And obviously, certain things
- 41:53are going to help like having a support network.
- 41:55Having the husband are having family friends, colleagues,
- 41:59whatever it takes, you know, that's fundamental and you know
- 42:02we will always draw on these things when were in a period
- 42:06where we need that kind of support we reach out as what we
- 42:09do. But I think you're incredible
- 42:13for showing such courage and Determination to keep going
- 42:20through that and I think it's even more amazing.
- 42:23That you played a business concept to that.
- 42:25That's that's unheard of and I got a I got a dig a Little
- 42:30Deeper with this because I know that you've got this kind of put
- 42:34it like a seven step program that you've developed, is that
- 42:38the same thing or is that like the beginnings of that and then
- 42:41you kind of create that later on, like talk to us about this
- 42:46kind of approach that you Used not only to address that tough
- 42:50time in your life but then continuing from that to where
- 42:53you are now. Well, this is another great
- 42:57question. You, you are good.
- 43:01You ask some really terrific questions.
- 43:03Well, first of all, the coach that I mentioned that I was
- 43:06working with, he he was a coach that at one time was a
- 43:12professional football player for the Miami Dolphins.
- 43:16So he had gone to the Purple, he was the captain at the Super
- 43:20Bowl and very successful in that profession, and then when he
- 43:26left football, and by the way, he was coached under a coach by
- 43:30the name of Don Shula, some may know of Don Shula.
- 43:34He's, you know, one of the greats as it relates to coaching
- 43:37in football, history, back in the day.
- 43:40And so, the coaching that I received had a lot to do with
- 43:45the champion mindset. In fact, it Add almost
- 43:48everything to do with the champion mindset.
- 43:50So it was that champion mindset that we applied to business, and
- 43:55it was within that that it was not so much about those to dues.
- 43:59And yet there was a lot to do, it had everything to do with
- 44:03what we've been speaking about. So as he coached me, and then as
- 44:09we recognize, wait a minute, that's Champion mindset well, to
- 44:13get through a diagnosis and that kind of, that kind of Prediction
- 44:18from a doctor, we're going to need a champion mindset to get
- 44:22to the other side. Because if there is a book
- 44:25written by a colleague and a friend of mine who's no longer
- 44:28here alive, but he wrote a book that said, if the how-to's were
- 44:34enough, we'd all be skinny rich and happy because we know how to
- 44:41write. We just don't put the cigarette
- 44:43dry lips. We know how we just don't put
- 44:44the chip in our mouth know, if the how to's were enough.
- 44:47If we'd all be thriving, we'd all be happy, we'd all be
- 44:50skinny, we'd all be rich. We don't have nothing to worry
- 44:54about. So in recognizing, you know, one
- 44:58of those most topsy-turvy times in my life.
- 45:01And yes, I was working with this coach to achieve what I had, but
- 45:05my topsy-turvy didn't start just right at the time in which I was
- 45:10diagnosed. I had had some opportunities to
- 45:15rise above other times, in my Life as well, right?
- 45:19So a journey of self development, just didn't start
- 45:22because I was sent so interested in self development.
- 45:26Although I was it was I think that some of the greatest
- 45:30Masters have gone through some of the greatest stuff that's why
- 45:35we can accelerate and Elevate to become, you know, to be in this
- 45:42conversation because we've been through it.
- 45:44It's not just because I had an easy life that I can help
- 45:47people. People have better lives.
- 45:50Now, I've noticed that again and again and I used to think it was
- 45:53coincidence but now I, yeah, I'm not, it's true.
- 45:58The more you go through, the more, it kind of Helps you to
- 46:02build what resilience and understanding and it is a
- 46:07choice. You know, it's a choice of.
- 46:10Am I a victim or a my Survivor or you know?
- 46:14Like and don't get me wrong. I'm now, I'm making it sound
- 46:16easier than it is. Trust me, I realize it's not as
- 46:19simple as just making the decision.
- 46:21It's it's a profound thing. You make that decision and then
- 46:26you build upon that. And you know, for instance, if
- 46:28you've gone through something really traumatic Kind of build
- 46:32from that point onwards and you're like, okay I'm going to
- 46:35build my strength, I'm gonna, you know, help other people I'm
- 46:39going to you know not let this defeat me as you said have the
- 46:43Champions mindset, you know, and build upon that and move forward
- 46:46with your life. But it's it's a journey and it's
- 46:51It's Tricky and you know, When I look at my own life, for
- 46:55instance, I often try to channel my difficult times in two things
- 47:01that I do. So, like from going through a
- 47:03hard time I put into music or Channel it into a performance of
- 47:09some description or whatever the case may be.
- 47:11I mean, sometimes I hit it sounds unhealthy but it's just
- 47:14my way of dealing with things. If it gets really bad I just
- 47:18bury my head in work. Stay busy, keep myself busy,
- 47:22have some sort of a I think especially with some of those
- 47:29addictions that we would discuss in earlier things like drinking
- 47:33a lot more drugs in general. I mean obviously Inevitably
- 47:40people going to say oh what it's a coping mechanism sometimes it
- 47:43can be a because we have too much time on our hands as crazy
- 47:47as that sounds. I said my advice generally and I
- 47:50know it won't work for everyone but whenever people ask me for
- 47:54advice that when they're going through a difficult time I just
- 47:56say State stay busy, find yourself stuff to do and and get
- 48:01in the business of doing things and it doesn't matter what it
- 48:04is. It doesn't happen that when you
- 48:05say that people assume you mean like work, it doesn't have to
- 48:08just mean work it. I mean just okay well I'm going
- 48:11to make sure to clean my house. Every single day will make the
- 48:14bed every single day and get myself out and go for a walk
- 48:18every day and you fill your day up with things and then by the
- 48:21end you don't have time to sit down and and like feel bad but
- 48:27here's the thing. This is an important caveat, you
- 48:30can't avoid that stuff either. You've got a sit down and work
- 48:36through that stuff eventually either.
- 48:39With the therapist or by yourself or, you know, whatever
- 48:43works for you, but it's all about getting into that head
- 48:47space, where you're able to do that until we're in that
- 48:51headspace often. That's where we fall off and we
- 48:55end up doing things like, you know, having a drink like, for
- 48:58example, that, I mean II do not big on drinking as I said
- 49:02earlier. But you know, I'm praying to it
- 49:04sometimes if I feel bad. I know.
- 49:06I know I know how stupid that is because How is it depression?
- 49:10And if you feel depressed already, it's got to make it ten
- 49:13times worse. And yet you still go into that
- 49:16thinking. Oh, well whatever.
- 49:18Like, you know, gonna do this and get out and I don't know.
- 49:21Yeah, you convince yourself with things that are unlikely like or
- 49:24maybe I'll go out to this bar and I'll meet someone and it'll
- 49:28be great. And it's like really will that
- 49:30really happen? No.
- 49:33And not so much because you don't have luck or you know
- 49:37those things never happened to me.
- 49:39A or whatever. No, it will be because you have
- 49:41the wrong mindset. You know.
- 49:46As you say in that positive headspace, but it's so much more
- 49:49than that. Like I think when people hear
- 49:50the word positivity being positive, you know I've said
- 49:54this before. So my listeners probably bored
- 49:57of me saying this but I said this years ago that yeah, I used
- 50:01to be a negative person really - and a young point in my life as
- 50:06well. I was in my late teens, early
- 50:0820s at a time when you'd think all its life ahead of him, he
- 50:12surely you be excited. Know I was depressed hated my
- 50:15life. And a lot of that came down to
- 50:19fear, not pursuing the things. I should have been pursuing at
- 50:22the time, feeling unfulfilled, low self-esteem, etc, etc, etc.
- 50:28Right? But the key thing that was
- 50:30holding me back. Was that - mindset?
- 50:33Because it's not like there wasn't positive people around.
- 50:36There were a few here and there and they were like, a breath of
- 50:39fresh air and they would say things and I knew they were
- 50:42right. But I'd be like yeah, whatever
- 50:44that's never gonna happen. Oh yeah, whatever, you know.
- 50:48And then something just snapped where and this was my point of
- 50:52Reckoning where I just got so sick and tired of being
- 50:58depressed. That I was like, you know what?
- 51:00I'm just gonna Don't do something and I think I went to
- 51:05some gig somewhere it someplace that was familiar to me and I
- 51:10met a friend like what? I made a friend that night and
- 51:14then Things kind of spiraled from there, like I told with her
- 51:19band a little bit went to America for a little bit, did
- 51:22all these different things in the space of that year and
- 51:27slowly. My mindset began to change very
- 51:31slowly and then incidentally, that was the year that I Venture
- 51:34Ali went to University as well. So it took, it wasn't straight
- 51:39away. But there was something that
- 51:42happened needed to happen in order for me to get to that
- 51:46point and do something about it. But it was.
- 51:52A journey and it took a bit of time.
- 51:54And you know, I wouldn't have even said that I was immediately
- 51:57positive. It's just I started to think
- 51:59more positively. So when people would present
- 52:01ideas to me or opportunities would come my way, instead of
- 52:05going that won't work. That's stupid.
- 52:08I'd be like, let's give it a try.
- 52:10Let's see what happens. I don't know, I've never tried
- 52:14like right now. That's my Approach even if I
- 52:16feel like that won't work I'm like well how do you know you
- 52:19haven't tried. So Jay you know that staying
- 52:24open and you know Christian that's a muscle that's a muscle
- 52:27so this idea that affirmations if I just tell myself right I'm
- 52:31skinny I'm rich I'm happy. That's I understand why positive
- 52:37thinking gets a bad rap because that's not going to change
- 52:40anything I guess ultimately. Natalie one day it could cause
- 52:44us to be open to want to believe it, but to the point of
- 52:48believing that it could be possible, that's where the
- 52:52change. And that's where the positivity
- 52:54begins to take shape and that's where the muscle begins to get
- 52:58developed. And then once we have that
- 53:00muscle, to your point when we're open, and we can think about
- 53:05even if our initial is, I'm not going to make it.
- 53:09Doctor just said that I'm not going to make it.
- 53:12Wait, wait. Wait, what if because if we go
- 53:15down that track, we're done. But what if and you just made
- 53:20that decision, you just made that switch.
- 53:23Let's be open. It's a muscle.
- 53:25It's a muscle to be developed and it's like I remember being
- 53:29in the gym and somebody said, you know, now you're doing this
- 53:33arm exercise and they said, now really feel that tricep and it's
- 53:36like tricep. I don't think I was born The
- 53:39tricep I don't have a tricep same thing with abs, I don't
- 53:42think I was bored with abs. We're all born with it.
- 53:46It's just, is it developed? Have we developed it?
- 53:49Do we know how to develop it? Can we find it within?
- 53:52So everybody has that ability. This is where the mindset
- 53:57performance coaching comes in. Because everybody has the
- 53:59ability to capability and yet, not everybody knows how to
- 54:04access it. So Christians, you were
- 54:06mentioning, so the mindset started I had to change.
- 54:10Sometimes, it can change quicker than other times.
- 54:13The point is, is to turn ourselves and be open to it.
- 54:18And this idea of, you know, do we want to go this way?
- 54:21Do we want to go this way? Somebody asked me even in the
- 54:25time in which I was diagnosed. They said, you know, what do you
- 54:30believe that your chance of surviving will be?
- 54:34And I said, and I said this, I said this, you're going to love
- 54:38this. Because at the time this was
- 54:40true for me, the time it was true for me because this is
- 54:43where my mind was set. And this is what I said.
- 54:47I don't want to survive. I want to thrive, I didn't come
- 54:53here to survive. I didn't go through this just
- 54:57simply to survive. I came through this to come out
- 55:02on the other side. Stronger better bigger and not
- 55:08in those words specifically, but when we think about it, we come
- 55:11into a circumstance and then it looks like we hit the skids and
- 55:15then many people just want to get out of that and go back to
- 55:19where they were no even in the world.
- 55:22Today we come in, we hit the skids.
- 55:26What would it look like to rise above and go beyond and come
- 55:31out? Even better on the other side.
- 55:34So when we look at, no matter what happens because all of us
- 55:37have our stories, that's just one of my stories, right?
- 55:41Like how do we find the pony in the big pile of manure?
- 55:45Everybody's going to have a big pile of manure.
- 55:48Hey, we're in a big pile of manure worldwide right now.
- 55:51Everybody's living in a big pile of manure, no matter where
- 55:54you're living. No.
- 55:56Matter what's no matter where you are in the world, we're all
- 56:00in a big pile of manure right now.
- 56:03So the question is, would you be willing to find the pony in it,
- 56:07right? Because if there's a big pile of
- 56:08manure, there's got to be a pony in here somewhere and that was a
- 56:13story that my dad told me when I was eight that you know two
- 56:17little boys, both in a room filled with manure, they were
- 56:22identical twins scientists. Wanted to see how they would
- 56:26react to the circumstance. One was mad as hell.
- 56:32Put me in a big pile of manure. This was the worst day of my
- 56:35life. The other one was playing in the
- 56:38manure. Happy as could be.
- 56:41And when they went to that little boy, they said, what are
- 56:44you doing in this big pile of manure?
- 56:47And the little boy said, well, with this much manure, this is
- 56:50the greatest day of my life. There's got to be a pony in here
- 56:53somewhere. And that is the story in which I
- 57:00have led my life not since I was 8, but since I realized what
- 57:06that story really means, there's got to be a pony in here
- 57:10somewhere. So even through that diagnosis,
- 57:12that I share The idea that what could be the good, where could I
- 57:18mind the good? What could be the good that
- 57:20could come from this and Christian?
- 57:22The good that came from? It was I got to see very clearly
- 57:26why I'm here. I believe that if I went
- 57:30through, what I went through, and if I was able to help one
- 57:33person in their life than it would have been a journey
- 57:36worthwhile. And Christian to your question a
- 57:40little while ago, in that Journey, that's where I was able
- 57:44to really see how all of this works.
- 57:49And to recognize how we can find ourselves to a different space
- 57:55and place, get to the other side of wherever we are, is
- 57:58everybody's got their stuff, everybody's got, their stuff,
- 58:02they're living in, or have lived in.
- 58:05And the idea is what could be a formula for success to go
- 58:09through it, rise above it, and go beyond it.
- 58:12And that's what I created in the program, called Elevate.
- 58:17And so that is what I teach. Is how I coach that is, you
- 58:21know, there's a framework where we begin the process of really
- 58:26knowing the formulas. Like, I give you the recipe to
- 58:29bake a cake and you have the recipe.
- 58:33And now we go into the kitchen. And now we start baking cakes
- 58:36until we're really good at baking cakes.
- 58:39And that's where the Mastery resides.
- 58:41So whether it's an elevator program, I have Elevate the work
- 58:44with clients one-on-one, and, and then We take it up a notch
- 58:51or two to Mastery results. Mastering how to really create
- 58:56the results that we would love to create and most importantly
- 59:00You know, there's a saying that it's not about the destination,
- 59:03it's about the journey and it is about creating results, right?
- 59:08How we have this blank canvas called this year.
- 59:11What will you? And I create right.
- 59:14We have this book that has yet to be written in the rest of
- 59:17this year and Beyond and you and I are the author's.
- 59:21Yeah, there's a lot of stuff that comes in that we would
- 59:24never have put in that chapter. But ultimately were the authors
- 59:29of that Book of Life. And so that's the work that I
- 59:33do. And that's what I am here to do.
- 59:36And really help people tap into their truest potential to rise
- 59:39above, go beyond and live happier, healthier more
- 59:44fulfilling lives of joy and no matter what comes our way.
- 59:49So it's not a Pollyanna approach of just thinking, positive being
- 59:52positive. It's about running to the day
- 59:56being so passionate about living this day to be fully alive.
- 1:00:00I've that that champion mindset. What could we create in this day
- 1:00:05for ourselves and others? We've been your kind of biggest
- 1:00:11success stories so far terms of helping businesses people out
- 1:00:15what the kind of most memorable instances that stand out where
- 1:00:20you're able to really help someone or an entity of company
- 1:00:24transform themselves. Yeah, it's a brilliant question
- 1:00:28because where I help people We'll really focus in business.
- 1:00:31The results that come back fruit of it has so much to do with
- 1:00:35relationships, with passion, for living, with health and
- 1:00:42wellness. And for me, it's like planting
- 1:00:46the seeds in a garden and watching all these beautiful
- 1:00:48flowers bloom. That's really when I work with
- 1:00:52people. That's what I see is.
- 1:00:53We plant all these seeds and watch these extraordinary
- 1:00:57results happen in every area of life.
- 1:01:00It's whether it's personally, whether it's relationally,
- 1:01:04whether it's just the Peace and Freedom, I would say the number
- 1:01:09one theme has to do with freedom living a life fully free, right?
- 1:01:16Like being free, there's this this idea that, you know, it's
- 1:01:23like we all have our in these little prisons that we built for
- 1:01:26ourselves or that have been built for us in one way or or
- 1:01:30the other. And so this idea of really
- 1:01:32Breaking Free, but specifically, let's think so many people who
- 1:01:39because it's about designing the life, you'd love to live.
- 1:01:43So many people literally redesigning their life, moving
- 1:01:46to different cities, going into different works and building
- 1:01:51businesses, that thrive for sure, but I'll tell you one
- 1:01:56that's coming to mind, is I had a client who Working in
- 1:02:00business. And as we sat down, and I did
- 1:02:03the intake session just to see how every element of her life
- 1:02:07was. She said, before we get started,
- 1:02:09I just want to tell you that my husband and I are getting a
- 1:02:12divorce and there's nothing that's going to change that.
- 1:02:15And I just need you to know as my coach that I'm also dealing
- 1:02:19with this stuff on the side because we were just there for
- 1:02:21business and and that's what's happening for me.
- 1:02:26They are now happier than they've ever been.
- 1:02:30They didn't end up getting the divorce, she sold her business,
- 1:02:35which was part of her plan. And now retired in a beautiful
- 1:02:41place on the coast living a life that she could have only dreamed
- 1:02:45about or imagined before we work together.
- 1:02:49So that's one that's just one that comes to mind but that's
- 1:02:52pretty that's pretty indicative of the Results when I work with
- 1:02:58people that they step in to a life of their dreams and one
- 1:03:02that they absolutely love living that they wake up every day.
- 1:03:06It's just like Pinch Me. Am I Dreaming?
- 1:03:10Even when the world has gone nuts?
- 1:03:14Even in, even, in the way, in which the world is today,
- 1:03:18they're living lives of their dreams and loving every day that
- 1:03:24they're alive. How has your work and your line
- 1:03:28of work, helped your personal relationships and I with your
- 1:03:32husband, your children Etc. Like how how has it helped you
- 1:03:37benefit? So it's really fun.
- 1:03:40It's really brilliant Christian, how it's helped.
- 1:03:43Me is what I know is that anyone who is before me is there as my
- 1:03:49teacher to, you know, it's feedback I get to learn because
- 1:03:54I get to witness and I get to for me, personally, anything
- 1:04:01that I share with a client for that in my group coaching
- 1:04:05programs, anything I asked of another I would never ask of
- 1:04:10another if I'm not doing it myself.
- 1:04:13So when I can recognize others and the challenges they're
- 1:04:17having and I share with them, the help that I can bring them
- 1:04:22Shine the spotlight. I also take that Spotlight and I
- 1:04:25look at see how how it is for me, what's happening in my life,
- 1:04:30if I just shared that to help someone, is that information
- 1:04:34that can apply for me. And so, you know, there's a
- 1:04:38client that I'm going to be with a little later today and I'm
- 1:04:42very aware of what we're going to be speaking about today, and
- 1:04:46I get to sit with that even before we go into our session
- 1:04:50and ask and look and see. Where might that apply for me?
- 1:04:55And so, when I share anything with anyone, I do my very best
- 1:05:03to see how I can put that into play in my own life.
- 1:05:07Where am I in my life and my really walking the walk?
- 1:05:11Or am I just talking the talk? And there's about 20 years ago?
- 1:05:15I decided, you know what, if I'm going to do this, I'm going to
- 1:05:18show up to be the best that I can be to create a life that I
- 1:05:23love living. And it's Not about perfection.
- 1:05:26I still have stuff happened in my life.
- 1:05:29I still have, you know, I'm human.
- 1:05:31And yet who will I become in the midst of it?
- 1:05:35Well, I rise or will I fall? And if I start to take a free
- 1:05:39fall I catch myself. And rise again and that's the
- 1:05:43work that I bring. So it's helped me in my, my
- 1:05:46relationship with my husband to your point about the woman who
- 1:05:50still wants to grow her relationship.
- 1:05:54We're in a very, very, very pivotal time of change, and
- 1:05:59things are elevating. And I believe that those who
- 1:06:04believe they've gotten this far on, where they whatever they've
- 1:06:10done previously, We'll get lost. If they don't keep going to the
- 1:06:18gym. So to speak in every area of
- 1:06:21their life. There are really, really, really
- 1:06:23successful Fortune 100 CEOs that have made it to the top been
- 1:06:30done, very well. And we're now entering into a
- 1:06:33time where this mindset this going within this expansion,
- 1:06:39inner expansion will be imperative To continue moving
- 1:06:45forward. If they don't do it, they'll get
- 1:06:48lost in the shuffle so we can never just rest on our Laurels.
- 1:06:53Like we've come this far and where there doesn't work that
- 1:06:56way. We've come this far.
- 1:06:57And guess what? Today we're not opening the door
- 1:07:00for where we go from here. I can't agree more with you.
- 1:07:05Yeah and if somebody's like what, wait a minute I must have
- 1:07:08just you know, I am not on the train, I must have missed the
- 1:07:12train because Because like she's on a Super Shuttle and I must
- 1:07:16have missed the Super Shuttle. No, no, no.
- 1:07:20Wherever someone is in, this moment is exactly where they are
- 1:07:24to be in this moment. And in this moment, there is an
- 1:07:27opportunity to decide that they're open and they'd love to
- 1:07:32go beyond. And In This Moment is, when we
- 1:07:36can decide, where would we love to be on the other side of this?
- 1:07:42And then believe, it could be possible, start to come from
- 1:07:45that live within it. Take the actions necessary and
- 1:07:48when we get off track, come back on track, remind ourselves.
- 1:07:52Start to go this way, come back, come back to Center, you know,
- 1:07:57Christian in this time it's a time in which people can be very
- 1:08:02fear filled And as I mentioned that the story that I shared 20
- 1:08:09years ago, I've had people say, how did you do that?
- 1:08:13So fearlessly even people who were with me, they like how did
- 1:08:18you do that? There was just no fear.
- 1:08:21It's not true, There Was Fear, it's just the ability to look at
- 1:08:29fear straight in the face. Face the fear and move forward.
- 1:08:36Anyway, wasn't that I didn't have fear fear sneaked in and
- 1:08:40specially in the middle of the night.
- 1:08:42When it's dark fear can come in and try to get a hold of us.
- 1:08:50It's not the idea that fear won't exist.
- 1:08:52It's the idea that when the fears rise, what will we do with
- 1:08:56that, how will we navigate it? And how will we look at straight
- 1:09:00on head on? And keep moving forward.
- 1:09:04Anyway, that's the sign of courage and so was their
- 1:09:09courage, yes. And right now more than ever is
- 1:09:13courage needed. Is Faith needed is trust in the
- 1:09:17process needed and a vision of what could be possible on the
- 1:09:22other side of, where anybody is in this moment.
- 1:09:25That's the direction. That's the focus, that's the
- 1:09:28first first things first. What?
- 1:09:31Could it look like and what I believe it and what I decide?
- 1:09:35Just decide for it today. That's the beginning of the
- 1:09:39journey. So what are the things you tell
- 1:09:42yourself when you feel fear? Like, when you were dealing with
- 1:09:47that? What did you keep telling
- 1:09:49yourself? How did you keep keep going?
- 1:09:53So I could recognize it was fear and I recognized it as an
- 1:09:57opponent and I recognized it as what it was.
- 1:10:02We've heard the acronym before, false evidence appearing.
- 1:10:06Real it appeared really real And there was a time in which I was
- 1:10:11five years old where when I was falling asleep one night and
- 1:10:18opened up my eyes in the corner of my room.
- 1:10:22I could see what looked like a monster scared me to death.
- 1:10:26Like I'm still alive but it was scary.
- 1:10:29Five years old, very scary and look like a monster standing in
- 1:10:34my room. And I yelled for my mother, I
- 1:10:37cried out and I cried and I'm rushed in and I said there's a
- 1:10:43monster in the corner and she turned on the light and there
- 1:10:46was no monster. And she said, go back to sleep.
- 1:10:52She left the room and I saw it again, and she rushed back in.
- 1:10:58And this time, she didn't turn on the light.
- 1:11:01She just said, show me, where's the monster?
- 1:11:03And he said, it's in the corner and what was in the corner, was
- 1:11:07a coat rack that day. My mother and I have been
- 1:11:10shopping and she bought me a balloon and tied it to my coat
- 1:11:13rack. So, there was a balloon and my
- 1:11:16coat rack. And when the lights were turned,
- 1:11:18Off, it looked like a monster. It was my imagination.
- 1:11:25Fortunately my mother was there to then turn on the light and
- 1:11:28show me what this monster really was.
- 1:11:32It was false evidence appearing real.
- 1:11:34Now we can see that and once my mother showed me what it was
- 1:11:39then I could realize that's just a figment of my imagination and
- 1:11:44when fears come, they really are a figment of our imaginations.
- 1:11:48And so now what I do is I Share with myself a coach myself and I
- 1:11:55surround myself with people who don't believe in Monsters and
- 1:12:00especially back, then you asked how did I do it?
- 1:12:02Then is, if I surrounded myself with people who didn't believe
- 1:12:06in Monsters and I recognized from the story, when I was
- 1:12:10little, wait, turn the light on that, is not real.
- 1:12:16And looking at it in the face monster, you are not real fear,
- 1:12:21you're not even real. You want me to believe this.
- 1:12:25You want me to go down? You want me to have drama?
- 1:12:27You want me to be upset? You want me to be rattled?
- 1:12:31I'm not going to do it. Not going to do it and I'm
- 1:12:34human. Can I be afraid?
- 1:12:36Yes, I can. And then this is where I have
- 1:12:39this conversation to have a dialogue with the fear.
- 1:12:42Now, I'm not going there. I'm going to stay on my track.
- 1:12:46And believe trust and faith and be open to all things possible.
- 1:12:55Thank you for sharing. What's the best advice you've
- 1:12:59ever received? I received some really good
- 1:13:05advice, but the one that's coming to me, that I think is
- 1:13:12here for all of us in this moment of time I moved like this
- 1:13:18is just touched my heart and moved at the soul level.
- 1:13:23The best that I've ever received is to not fight a circumstance.
- 1:13:29My coach, when I was diagnosed my business coach and I called
- 1:13:33him and I said, I'm mad as hell. This isn't supposed to be
- 1:13:36happening, you know, I just was so mad and he said, Patricia
- 1:13:43don't fight this. Don't fight this embrace it
- 1:13:49finally good within it. Rise above and go beyond it.
- 1:13:54And when he said these words Christian the type of diagnosis
- 1:14:00I received was one that we have this idea that we're going to
- 1:14:04fight the fight fight against cancer, but this fight it
- 1:14:10Anything you fight pushes back creates more of it, greatest
- 1:14:16advice. He gave me and I said to him, I
- 1:14:18thought we were supposed to be fighting this and he said if you
- 1:14:21fight this to the conversation we just had earlier basically
- 1:14:25you'd be going into the Alligator Pit.
- 1:14:29And you would be up against a real opponent that you may not
- 1:14:35make it out of embrace this Gleaming the gold from it.
- 1:14:41Make the best of it not just rolling over but find the good
- 1:14:47in it. Find the good stay with it long
- 1:14:50enough to find the good because once we find the good this is
- 1:14:54our key to rise above and beyond Again, amazing stuff.
- 1:15:00Yeah, I'm so so grateful to to be a token with you on these
- 1:15:05things. Thank you.
- 1:15:07This is always my favorite question to ask all of my
- 1:15:10guests. What's the biggest life lesson
- 1:15:13you've learned so far? It's some good ones for sure.
- 1:15:29Really grass, life lessons, I've learned is that there's always
- 1:15:34more to know, there's always more to grow just when you think
- 1:15:37you've got it. There's more And the with that
- 1:15:44is the idea that there's a power within each and every one of us.
- 1:15:48Like each one of us was born. Specifically like I liken it to
- 1:15:58a snowflake, right? Like there's never the same
- 1:16:01snowflake that's ever fallen out of the sky that will ever fall
- 1:16:06again. Like, when you look at your
- 1:16:07fingerprint, there's never been another one of you.
- 1:16:10There's never been another one of me ever in the history of
- 1:16:14human beings. And there never will be another
- 1:16:17one. And so the greatest life lesson
- 1:16:21to know is we're here for a reason, we're here for a purpose
- 1:16:25and there is a power within us that when we tap into that, we
- 1:16:31have the opportunity to live our fullest and live, our finest,
- 1:16:38the life of fulfillment, and live, a life of joy and service.
- 1:16:45And that's one of my greatest life lessons is that we are
- 1:16:49unique and we are perfect in our uniqueness and that there is a
- 1:16:54genius that resides within each of us.
- 1:16:58And that, when we are open to that, when we Embrace that, That
- 1:17:05is the key to live the life that we were meant to be.
- 1:17:12You so much for sharing as we draw to a close today.
- 1:17:16I mean I'll personally I wish this would never end.
- 1:17:19It's such a great conversation. Do you have any upcoming
- 1:17:22projects or final thoughts you'd like to share with our
- 1:17:25listeners? Well, I do have some projects
- 1:17:30that are coming up and it is about creating a greater
- 1:17:34elevation. So my whole purpose is helping
- 1:17:38people rise, right? And so some of the projects that
- 1:17:42are coming up, I do have several in the works, but one of them
- 1:17:46that I'm really passionate about, that will grow greater is
- 1:17:53something that I have called The Happiness Project.
- 1:17:57And a Happiness Project is not just about that positive
- 1:18:01thinking. It's not just about, you know,
- 1:18:04trying to be happy, although it has to do with happiness.
- 1:18:10It is that calm confidence. It's knowing how to build the
- 1:18:14part of our brain that actually creates peace within our heart.
- 1:18:20No matter what's happening in the world.
- 1:18:23So this is about happiness, creating greater happiness.
- 1:18:26A penis which creates greater Health which creates greater
- 1:18:30productivity. But more than anything, it
- 1:18:32creates greater balance and Harmony so that we can have our
- 1:18:37grounding have our footing. No matter what happens in our
- 1:18:42world, whether it's in our families communities business,
- 1:18:46or the World At Large, how we can have peace, how we can live
- 1:18:50from Joy and how we can create that happiness within even if
- 1:18:55this is the only day that Have to create that happiness, how
- 1:18:59can we live our fullest in this moment and so I've created a
- 1:19:06happiness guide. It's My some of my favorite
- 1:19:10steps and keys to create greater happiness expansion and greater
- 1:19:16light about light higher frequency, higher Vibe greater
- 1:19:20expansion. It's my seven keys and from that
- 1:19:24it will be created into a book. And it is part of the program
- 1:19:28and Elevate that I teach in group coaching and in private
- 1:19:32coaching. And I will have a digital
- 1:19:34program coming soon. Actually.
- 1:19:37It's that at home at home with Patricia, it's pretty in a Best
- 1:19:43Buy best of luck with that. I mean yeah, based on just our
- 1:19:47conversation today, I think. People can really benefit from
- 1:19:53from working with you. So I think there's a lot of I
- 1:19:56endorse this I would say that and thank you.
- 1:20:02Oh thank you. It's been it's been a real
- 1:20:05pleasure just talking to you learning about your life and
- 1:20:09what you do and Yeah, thank you for thank you very much for
- 1:20:14sharing your experiences and your time with us Christian and
- 1:20:19Christian may I ask you what do you have going on?
- 1:20:23What's next for you? Where do I have guide on what
- 1:20:28their Vision? Christian, what's your vision?
- 1:20:30What's next? That really expands your heart
- 1:20:35and fills you with joy and causes you Such happiness in
- 1:20:42your heart, anything on your radar.
- 1:20:45It was funny as the um, Last couple of years, I got back into
- 1:20:52all of this stuff and in 2019, I was just working in my field of
- 1:20:58marketing. That's why study that uni.
- 1:21:00And yeah, I was just doing whatever, you know, I was just
- 1:21:04working and I wasn't, wasn't unhappy, wasn't happy.
- 1:21:07I was just kind of in the middle and then inevitably that moment
- 1:21:11came when I was just kind of like, and, you know, and
- 1:21:14everyone knows the story about from then to now, so I won't
- 1:21:18repeat it. But What I will say is that even
- 1:21:22in this last year, even though the last couple of months, I was
- 1:21:27so sure, I knew what I was doing and where things were going in
- 1:21:31ETC. And with everything that we
- 1:21:33spoken about today is interesting because You can be
- 1:21:38so sure of where you think things are heading and what
- 1:21:42you're supposed to be doing and then things kind of get flipped
- 1:21:46up on you. So to answer the question in a
- 1:21:50basic sense, you know like yeah you know I want to be an actor
- 1:21:53voice, actor, podcast, in musician, Etc.
- 1:21:57You know, I got all these goals and things I want to do with my
- 1:21:59life but I was getting so caught up on.
- 1:22:03I need to be successful, I need to do this.
- 1:22:05I need to do that and it was just making me unhappy.
- 1:22:07To be perfectly honest with you and I've cut some things out my
- 1:22:11life now that we're making me unhappy, and I've tweaked a few
- 1:22:14things changed, a few things. And the funny thing is this
- 1:22:20podcast, I'm doing now, I started it with no particular
- 1:22:25Rhyme or Reason. I just knew I wanted to do a
- 1:22:27podcast. and, I don't know what it is but I feel like this is
- 1:22:34the thing that's, I don't know, because one thing I would love
- 1:22:40which I think would connect with, this is I would love to
- 1:22:44make documentaries. I would love to create, you
- 1:22:49know. Content that would benefit a lot
- 1:22:52of people. And I think that I'm already
- 1:22:56doing that with this podcast to an extent because when I first
- 1:22:59started it I didn't have a particular plan mind.
- 1:23:03I just thought, I don't know. I guess I'll talk about some
- 1:23:06things from my life. I can talk at length and then I
- 1:23:11started interviewing people and you know it was as you expect I
- 1:23:15mean anyone can go back and listen to the older episodes.
- 1:23:18I wasn't as confident that talking to people learn alone
- 1:23:22interviewing people. And then, you know, you keep
- 1:23:25doing it. Keep doing it, keep doing that,
- 1:23:27get better and better and better.
- 1:23:28And then eventually things started to click and you start
- 1:23:31realizing What you're supposed to be doing and you know funnily
- 1:23:35enough, I had a experience recently where I was sitting up
- 1:23:39Hub in a bar, just having a drink and someone was quizzing
- 1:23:42me about why I do my podcast and how I get my guests and stuff
- 1:23:47and they were they had a bit too much to drink and they were kind
- 1:23:50of unpleasant and I remember for a while just being upset about
- 1:23:55the encounter and everything and then once I kind of stopped
- 1:23:58being emotional and just had time to sit and think about it.
- 1:24:02One of the things that kept coming to me is what's the
- 1:24:04purpose of this? Why am I doing this?
- 1:24:07And I used to think it was, oh, I'm trying to be successful.
- 1:24:10I'm trying to, you know, become successful and trying to build a
- 1:24:15career and all of that stuff is true.
- 1:24:17But, you know, you have to have a bigger Point behind while all
- 1:24:23of what you're doing, I mean, take what you're doing, that's
- 1:24:25your life, it's your career, it's what you're good at it, but
- 1:24:28it's so much more than that. It's like you want to help
- 1:24:30people because, you know, that this stuff works because it
- 1:24:33worked for you and it's work for businesses and it can work for
- 1:24:36people and that's your gift to the world.
- 1:24:38That's how you help people and it works and it's something to
- 1:24:42believe it with what I do. I guess I just want to entertain
- 1:24:47people, I want to inspire people, I want to.
- 1:24:51Make people happy. I want to bring that into
- 1:24:53people's lives, and I think that Through acting and through music
- 1:24:59and through this that might be my way of doing that and you
- 1:25:04know every day is different. Every moment is different, you
- 1:25:08know, some days are more positive about it or some days,
- 1:25:11not so much but I think when I started to relax a bit more with
- 1:25:17this podcast and just enjoy the process, It started getting
- 1:25:22better. Like even you know, just the way
- 1:25:27I approach this, like I've said this for the last five or 10
- 1:25:30episodes. I've stopped even asking all the
- 1:25:33questions I have in front of me, you know, I see it more as like
- 1:25:36a guide like this is just trigger some stuff.
- 1:25:39But let's just focus on having a conversation with the person
- 1:25:41sitting across from me and just be in that moment and that's an
- 1:25:47incredible feeling. And you know, again once again I
- 1:25:49reiterate what I said before which is thank you so much for
- 1:25:52sharing, all your knowledge. Knowledge and expertise and just
- 1:25:57your stories because people listening to this and watching
- 1:26:01this will benefit from this I've benefited from this.
- 1:26:03And I think that That if nothing else is maybe the most important
- 1:26:11thing. So hearing Christian, thank you
- 1:26:19for sharing. You know your future is bright
- 1:26:23and sunny right in the pocket and the idea that we think it's
- 1:26:28going to be this way and then all of a sudden a curve ball
- 1:26:30comes in and it's that way. I thought my future was going
- 1:26:34this way and then I had a big curveball come in and now it's
- 1:26:37going this way and it is utilizing the gifts and talents
- 1:26:41and strengths that we have in just a little different way.
- 1:26:44And yet, I will share with you is even a greater impact, even a
- 1:26:48better way and even more fulfilling.
- 1:26:50It's just what I couldn't see because I was so into the
- 1:26:53success, right, success. Success money.
- 1:26:57All the fame and the fortune and all of it went, but wait a
- 1:27:01minute, there's more. And this is where we get the
- 1:27:03curveball and hopefully we'll hear the call.
- 1:27:09Of the curveball that's redirecting us to what is really
- 1:27:16designed and primed and right there for us and you are really
- 1:27:21gifted. You are very cold.
- 1:27:23It has been a joy to be with you Christian.
- 1:27:26Thank you, thank you, thank you for the opportunity and I look
- 1:27:29forward to hearing from you again and maybe even being
- 1:27:33together again, so we can have part 2 and to see where we can
- 1:27:36go from here. I would absolutely love that.
- 1:27:39And thank you so much for your time and this, yeah, it's been a
- 1:27:42real pleasure. And to all the listeners of the
- 1:27:45Christian re podcast, as always be safe.
- 1:27:48Be well, and I'll see you in the next.
