Paul says the body is one thing made of many parts, and that not everybody gets the same work — some apostles, some teachers, some helpers, and the list ends without anyone being told they don't belong. The psalm gives the reason underneath it: we didn't make ourselves. He made us, we are his, and we're the sheep of his pasture, which is not a description of people who earned their place.
