- Shaun: Welcome back to the reset episode 64 with me, Shaun Tucker. Kindness costs you nothing. So why aren't you kind? Actually, I lie.. kindness actually costs you a lot, but it doesn't cost you money. And I see something happening right now. that the world is upside down. People are stressed out. People are financially holding on. You know, they're still going shopping, right? So it can't be that bad. They're still getting what they need. They're still paying six to eight dollars for a coffee. I'm sure there's places that are charging eight dollars for a coffee right now. Anyways, my point being, we're not really in survival states just yet, but people are panicking. And people are panicking because there is this idea of fear mongering that's happening in the media, on social media, Like it's new, right? So ⁓ the thing is, ⁓ right now being kind ⁓ probably one the hardest things. ⁓ And only the hardest things to do, Also, you're going to witness it less and less, which is why you actually have to be the person who's kind. It's not about being nice. Being kind is being someone who gives a smile because they care, who gives a smile because they can, who realizes that their life is actually pretty damn good, who realizes that You my car might be half full of petrol right now and it's going to cost me $200 to fill it up. But I actually don't need to drive my car around that much. So do I really need to be complaining about the fuel price? Or is this just another way to be, to become more aware and have it in my awareness that I'm pouring money down the train where I could be investing that money somewhere else. Maybe it's in your personal development, I don't know. But that little ripple effect of kindness, it costs a lot of character. Because it takes a lot of energy for someone to be kind, for someone to smile. even when their world feels like it's turning upside down. And you've probably heard about all these gratitude practices, you know, what's three things that you're grateful for, write them in a diary and have a gratitude journal, right? Those things work. Yes, they do. But if you're like me and you've done them before, you've done them consistently over periods of time, but sometimes the more and more you do them, they actually lose their meaning. Right? So you actually become less and less grateful the more you kind of follow this process. I mean, it sounds very counterintuitive, but this is where you got to dig deeper. and maybe stopping the gratitude practices and focusing, I've mentioned it before, what you're ungrateful for. So yesterday I caught myself when we had someone come out and help us with the blockage in our drainage system because this house that we're living in is brand new and you know it's a house, it's our first home. And that is something that very few people can attain these days. Especially young families as very few fewer and fewer young families can attain their first home and you know I said to the to the guy who came out and helped us with our drainage you this is not really our dream home but it's our first time and he said I would love to have this is you know this is like my dream home I love to have a house like this and right then and there I felt like he called me out he didn't say anything that was very demeaning or anything like that but It's perspective, right? Gratitude, suffering, all of those things come down to perspective. If you're coming from a place where you're comparing yourself to your siblings, to your competition, your, I don't know, influencers social media and you're seeing what they have and you're like, I'm nowhere near close to where they ⁓ So what I have, I can't really be grateful for because what working towards, that's when I'll have my gratitude. ⁓ I'll get my gratitude when I get to where I'm going. And this is the dumbest thing because gratitude is a feeling that only occurs now. You can't be grateful for something that hasn't happened. You can only be grateful for what has happened and what is currently happening. So you can actually only truly be grateful for now. how you feel in response to something now. Can you create feelings of gratitude for being alive right now? Yeah, of course you can. Can you create feelings of gratitude for waking up tomorrow? Well, it doesn't really make any sense. There's no guarantees, right? There is no guarantee that you will wake up tomorrow. There's millions of people, hundreds of thousands of people who don't wake up tomorrow morning. You might be one of them. I don't know. kindness itself. think kindness and gratitude are such powerful ways to enhance you as an offering to life. To show that you can be optimistic. To show people that it's possible even when everything around you is crumbling. that it's okay, it's gonna be okay. because end of the day, we're all gonna die, right? And you can either die in misery or you can die with a smile on your face. And the smile on your face means that everything around you is probably responding with a smile on its face, especially if it's coming from a place of genuinenuity, that genuine smile. And so, my friends, I would love to know what's one thing, what's one act of kindness you can make today that's conscious and deliberate? Let me know what the task is and go ahead and follow through. notice what kind of difference it makes on your life. And look, I don't know, maybe that random act of kindness will be the tipping point for you. Maybe it just shows you the power of gratitude and being kind. Because when you are grateful for where you are, being alive right now, how you are, that might just save someone today. That might just be the reason why someone said, I had a great day because someone helped me. Someone helped me and they didn't expect anything in return. And it might've just been that smile. Or it might've been that genuine, hey. I see you. How are you doing today? and that moment of presence, that moment of... Just seeing them. That has so much power. So use it. Use it, spread it, and let's infect everyone with optimism and positivity. If you found value in today's episode, share it with one person. I look forward to seeing you in tomorrow's episode, and thanks for tuning in.
