- 0:00Speaker 1: Stay with us.
- 0:00Speaker 2: A player interviews are coming up after we talk with
- 0:03Speaker 2: Jim Moore. One more segment here Jadon McDonald, Lewis Hanson.
- 0:07Speaker 2: As we continue on the Yukon Football Coaches Show, we
- 0:09Speaker 2: talked about Lou Hanson, Jim and now it's Jaden McDonald.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Man.
- 0:13Speaker 2: He's this guy's one of my favorite players. Six foot two,
- 0:15Speaker 2: thirty five. He came from Troy. The numbers to me
- 0:21Speaker 2: are impressive. Seven and a half, you know, tackles for loss,
- 0:26Speaker 2: two and a half sacks. He's been getting loose on
- 0:28Speaker 2: some blitzes that were dialed up by Matt Brock. I
- 0:32Speaker 2: like the quarterback hurry stat. I don't know, maybe some
- 0:35Speaker 2: people don't, but I think that's a pretty good stat.
- 0:38Speaker 2: If you're doing that, you're making the quarterback do something
- 0:40Speaker 2: that he doesn't want to do.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's getting him off his spot, taking
- 0:44Speaker 3: him out of his rhythm. I think that Matt has
- 0:48Speaker 3: done a really good job of putting our guys in
- 0:51Speaker 3: a position to do what they do best, kind of
- 0:53Speaker 3: like we're talking about with Brad and Gordy on the
- 0:55Speaker 3: offensive side.
- 0:56Speaker 1: It's the same type of thing, and.
- 1:00Speaker 3: You start to learn what a player is really good
- 1:02Speaker 3: at and you try to get him doing that as
- 1:05Speaker 3: much as you can. And you know, Jaden's done a
- 1:08Speaker 3: great job of just assimilating into this program, becoming a leader,
- 1:12Speaker 3: become a dependable, hard worker, smart, understands the scheme. He's
- 1:16Speaker 3: a playmaker, great energy, loves to play football, always got
- 1:19Speaker 3: a smile on his face.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I mean, he's a real pleasure to be around.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a really respectful guy to a lot. A
- 1:24Speaker 2: lot of the players that we've visited with on the
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yukon Football Coaches Show this year have been impressive and
- 1:30Speaker 2: the way they just to deliver their messages and the
- 1:34Speaker 2: way they you know, interact with us and everything. We
- 1:38Speaker 2: appreciate that. I think that's a big part of developing
- 1:41Speaker 2: a program. You have to have guys that are capable
- 1:45Speaker 2: of that, and you seem to have been able to
- 1:47Speaker 2: hit on a bunch of them, certainly in this transfer portal.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 3: You know, you can see the talent on film, and
- 1:54Speaker 3: you know, you get to see talent against like talent,
- 1:58Speaker 3: not high school talent, you know, so you have a
- 2:00Speaker 3: better feel for who the player is at this point
- 2:02Speaker 3: in his career, rather than projecting what a high school
- 2:05Speaker 3: player is going to be the one thing that you
- 2:08Speaker 3: don't get to know is the person very well. It's just, uh,
- 2:12Speaker 3: that's just the nature of the of the of the portals.
- 2:15Speaker 3: You don't have as much time with them like you
- 2:17Speaker 3: do in in high school recruiting. But we have always
- 2:21Speaker 3: emphasized character and we have some really high character kids
- 2:24Speaker 3: that came in and you know what, I think part
- 2:26Speaker 3: of that was us doing our dual diligence, but most
- 2:29Speaker 3: of it was luck in you know, just having the
- 2:33Speaker 3: ability to follow our gut feelings about kids or young
- 2:36Speaker 3: men and them being who we thought they were, because
- 2:38Speaker 3: every every transfer we brought in brought something to this
- 2:42Speaker 3: team more than just their football ability. And that's their
- 2:44Speaker 3: football character, that's their personal character. That's their selflessness, that's
- 2:48Speaker 3: their toughness, that's their you know, their ability to check
- 2:52Speaker 3: their ego and be about the team. And I don't
- 2:55Speaker 3: think that everyone gets that lucky, but we got lucky.
- 2:57Speaker 3: And to me, it's a credit to our staf and
- 3:00Speaker 3: it's a credit to the players that we're here saying hey,
- 3:02Speaker 3: this is the way we do things here. And it's
- 3:04Speaker 3: the credit that the kids came in saying hey, I
- 3:06Speaker 3: want to be part of something special and I'm willing
- 3:08Speaker 3: to maybe sacrifice a little bit of my individual glory
- 3:12Speaker 3: for the glory of the team.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a it's an attitude we see on the
- 3:16Speaker 2: hoop court, you know, with baseball, now with football. It's
- 3:19Speaker 2: just a great a great sensibility to have in sports
- 3:23Speaker 2: if you can establish that, and you're certainly doing that.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Let's talk about UAB.
- 3:27Speaker 2: They're out of the AAC Jalen kitting that took over
- 3:30Speaker 2: as the QB about I think four games ago, complete
- 3:33Speaker 2: sixty one percent of his passes thrown for ten touchdowns.
- 3:37Speaker 2: He's got a pretty good arm. He's got some real
- 3:40Speaker 2: weapons out there, doesn't he.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:43Speaker 3: I mean he's the son of an NFL quarterback, John Kittna.
- 3:47Speaker 3: He's coached by a Super Bowl champion quarterback, Trent Dilfer.
- 3:51Speaker 3: He is big, tall, long, physical, he can move, he
- 3:57Speaker 3: can throw on the run, he has swag, athletic arrogance.
- 4:04Speaker 3: He's a handful and he's a really good player. And
- 4:07Speaker 3: he's got a bunch of guys that he can spread
- 4:09Speaker 3: it out to. I mean, they've got a really talented
- 4:11Speaker 3: skill group.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah, junior quarterback, where's number seventeen? Lee B b juniors
- 4:16Speaker 2: are running back only a sophomore number twenty nine. He's
- 4:19Speaker 2: run for over five hundred yards three touchdowns. But well,
- 4:22Speaker 2: it's also impressive he's got eighteen catches out of the backfield.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I always love to see backs who can catch and
- 4:27Speaker 2: run out of the backfield. They're dangerous.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Yeah, you said that same thing last week. They remember
- 4:32Speaker 3: the guy who played in Georgia State. I think he
- 4:34Speaker 3: had forty one catches, and we talked about that, which
- 4:37Speaker 3: is how hard it makes you to defend that guy,
- 4:41Speaker 3: you know who Sometimes he's a check down, sometimes he's
- 4:43Speaker 3: the main guy in the route. How do you match
- 4:46Speaker 3: up to him? You put a linebacker on him, you
- 4:48Speaker 3: try to put zone around him. But you know, these
- 4:51Speaker 3: guys want to take the ball down the field, but
- 4:52Speaker 3: they've got a guy they can get it to. You know,
- 4:55Speaker 3: want a checkdown that can make some yards too, So
- 4:58Speaker 3: they're hard to defend. You know that he gets the
- 4:59Speaker 3: ball out of his hand quickly.
- 5:01Speaker 1: You know.
- 5:02Speaker 3: I think that that Trent has a great offensive mind,
- 5:06Speaker 3: and he does a really good job of getting his
- 5:08Speaker 3: guys in position to make plays.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're uh, they got a dangerous punt returner
- 5:13Speaker 2: and a wide receiver. This dude does Cam Shanks, young
- 5:17Speaker 2: kid freshman forty one, catches twelve yards per four touchdowns.
- 5:22Speaker 2: But coach, the punt return is gonna I'm sure you're
- 5:25Speaker 2: spending a ton of time on repunt coverage this week.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Well, we always do for one thing.
- 5:34Speaker 3: It's just got to be a different emphasis this week
- 5:37Speaker 3: because we're talking about, you know, the leading punt return
- 5:39Speaker 3: in the country yards per return, and he's special and
- 5:42Speaker 3: quite frankly, he had a touch you know, another touchdown
- 5:44Speaker 3: last week that got called back, which would have made
- 5:46Speaker 3: him even you know, his his yards per return would
- 5:50Speaker 3: have been off the charts, which they already are. He's
- 5:52Speaker 3: already over twenty five yards return. But man, you better cover,
- 5:57Speaker 3: you better stand your lane, you better leverage. I mean,
- 6:01Speaker 3: he's a guy that can give give ground to get
- 6:03Speaker 3: around the corner and get ground.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Hopefully we don't have to punt too much.
- 6:08Speaker 3: You know, that's a big thing because you don't want
- 6:11Speaker 3: this guy to have the ball in his hands too
- 6:12Speaker 3: often because he will make he will make something happen.
- 6:15Speaker 1: He's really special.
- 6:17Speaker 2: So you would be the challenge in Birmingham one o'clock pregame,
- 6:20Speaker 2: two thirty to kick off thanks to Jim Moore. Coming up,
- 6:23Speaker 2: it's Lou Hanson, Jaden McDonald coach will see you on
- 6:27Speaker 2: the weekend and Yukon Football Coaches Show continues. In just
- 6:31Speaker 2: a moment, we're here on Lear Field.
