- 0:23Brewery Underground, night and day.
- 0:40Ladies and gentlemen. Ladies and gentlemen.
- 0:43We are here at Cabin Fever in Murfreesboro, TN not.
- 0:48Cabinet fest, but cabinet? Fever.
- 0:50Not what? Not Cabinet Fest.
- 0:52Not Cabinet Fest. Where's that term come from,
- 0:54Steve? I somebody else had texted us
- 0:58and like, are you going to Cabinet Fest?
- 1:00And like, no. It's not.
- 1:01Cabinet Fest. It's cabin fever, and it's
- 1:03appropriately named because it's 70 freaking degrees out here.
- 1:07I don't. It's so beautiful.
- 1:09Yeah, the weather's great. The.
- 1:12Weather's great in Tennessee. Oh my God.
- 1:15You don't know when you're playing something like this.
- 1:18I never planned it Months. And I mean, you don't know what
- 1:19you're going to get. Yeah, everywhere.
- 1:21You know it's Tennessee. You never you don't know it
- 1:23could be 7. No, it's 70.
- 1:25Never know. And the and the beautiful thing
- 1:27about this is like 3 what, 3 weekends ago?
- 1:313 weeks ago, people's power was out.
- 1:35That's not the beautiful piece. People's power was out, but like
- 1:38people were stuck in their homes.
- 1:39There was an inch of ice like on my HVACI could see the fan
- 1:43spinning underneath like this, this block of ice.
- 1:47I was going out with my shovel. It's just like and then then
- 1:49Fast forward to today. We've got beautiful sunny
- 1:52weather. Everybody's outside, fear is
- 1:55flowing. There's a hot tub.
- 1:56There's a. Hot Tub Mitch.
- 1:58There's a hot tub. I don't.
- 2:01We wouldn't want to be in that right now.
- 2:03No, you can. Probably go ahead and turn the
- 2:05heat off on that. Yeah, it's making a swimming
- 2:07space. It's hot making.
- 2:08A chart in. Tennessee.
- 2:09Is that what we're saying? It's awesome.
- 2:11OK. We got a little DJ behind us.
- 2:13If you hear that, it's OK. We got a little background.
- 2:15Yeah, Yeah. By the way, Mitch and Rich,
- 2:18Steven Scott, we're all here. Call me underground, all right?
- 2:22And. Hey, we're.
- 2:23All here, we're probably interested this at this point,
- 2:25the fortress point probably. I mean, we were at the we were
- 2:27at the Common. John.
- 2:28If there's a beer fest, we're here.
- 2:30That's right. That's right.
- 2:32Last time we were all together live outside was the last
- 2:35family, last beer fest on earth, Coma John, family reunion and
- 2:39funny, not even the last thing recorded.
- 2:42That's the last thing that was out.
- 2:43We've actually seen something on the in the can that I know, I
- 2:46know. Are you going to are you going
- 2:47to prelude to it? Are you going to make it a
- 2:48surprise? We'll make that a surprise.
- 2:49OK. Yeah, honestly, that probably
- 2:52comes out before this one drops anyway, so I guess that's next
- 2:55week, right? Yeah.
- 2:57I got a question. So we're at a beer festival.
- 2:59Are we drinking? No Mitch's.
- 3:02Mitch's response where? Shout out to LeBron.
- 3:12Here comes Goody the the the guy that the guy that looks like
- 3:17Common John is in the house. He he's wearing his Common John
- 3:22shirt. I don't know.
- 3:24Space is the guy on the shirt Look.
- 3:26Oh, there it is. Hello crap beer people.
- 3:28There we go. Hello.
- 3:29Hello. Goody Goody's World of Beer.
- 3:32This guy, this guy probably gets around in the beer industry more
- 3:35than any of us people do in terms of like the influencer fan
- 3:39game. He's he's everywhere.
- 3:41Goody, what time did you get here today bro?
- 3:43Oh, we left the brewery at. Talking a little bit more. 830
- 3:48got here probably after nine. Yeah.
- 3:50Had breakfast about 9:30 and started drinking then 930.
- 3:55Yes, Mama said you got to start early if you're going to go all
- 3:58day. Cootie, what have you had so
- 4:00far? What's that?
- 4:01What have you drank so far, do you know?
- 4:04Had some soul and spirits brewery.
- 4:08Has some. Several different home brews
- 4:09that were really good too, yeah. Absolutely.
- 4:12Very good home brews. The homebrewers have showed out
- 4:19today, by the way. The ones I've had have been
- 4:21really good. Yeah, Rubidium.
- 4:23Rubidium was the first one I started at.
- 4:25I know they took home the winner at the first Common John Beer
- 4:28Fest that I had been to, Yes. And they actually got the Brewer
- 4:32beer common John too, The one that they won with, yes.
- 4:35Oh, that's right. Because that's what they were
- 4:36doing, right. That is great.
- 4:38They got to brew their beer at Common John as the winner of
- 4:41that of that home brew festival. They brought with them some, a
- 4:44couple of bangers today. Rubidian was the one I started
- 4:46out. I think we all started there.
- 4:48Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:49Yeah, and and Cavacado, they won last year.
- 4:54Cavacado. Past year, yeah, they were the
- 4:56winner this past year, yes. That was a very unique beer.
- 5:06Now a very banana forward to me and it had a very unique flavor
- 5:10on the back end. Yeah, I had a couple things from
- 5:14there. From there I had that.
- 5:16I also had their English mild. It's called the mild hatred with
- 5:20nutty chocolate hazelnut. I mean, yes.
- 5:23That sounds good too. I had the lime, the lime very
- 5:27vindicative of like the Limewire logo from like if you know, you
- 5:30know, back in that lime ale, I think is what they called it.
- 5:33That one was they are kind of. Representative.
- 5:37Of something else. Yeah, yeah.
- 5:39Like the Nutella. Yeah, yeah, I saw.
- 5:41I saw the Nutella 1. In that particular brewery that
- 5:44we're talking about, they are in Cleveland, TN.
- 5:47Cleveland, which is near Chattanooga.
- 5:50Yeah. Kavakao, yes.
- 5:51Yeah, sure. Maybe they'll open a brewery
- 5:54someday. I think that's their dream is to
- 5:56open a brewery. That's right, home brew home.
- 5:58Brew Yeah, they're home Brewers, so be nice to.
- 6:03Yes, shout out. Shane Gibbs, I had a beer from
- 6:08them earlier. It was really good.
- 6:10Yeah, they have what they've today they've got with them.
- 6:12The yeah, the I had the Dunkle too, and it was solid.
- 6:16And a four percenter, I believe that that makes it even better.
- 6:19Yeah, yeah, it's really good Chocolate cherry stout.
- 6:23I think we all got a chance to to pour that one a little bit
- 6:26and then the Dunkle trying to remember what else they had on
- 6:30tap. Everything.
- 6:32He I think he had three of them on top.
- 6:33They were all really good. I got just sample all of them.
- 6:38Brandon from middle ground a minute ago, Fat finger was
- 6:41talking about there's one there. Get the base.
- 6:43Let's say. Brandon, I didn't realize the
- 6:48same, right. Middle ground, some, maybe all
- 6:50several of the gears that some of the whole earth had.
- 6:53The base came from middle ground.
- 6:55Yeah. Well.
- 6:56That's cool. I was talking to a guy the other
- 6:58day that I met at some brewery somewheres and he, a brewery had
- 7:03a base beer that he bought the base to go home and brew a beer
- 7:06with. So I guess that's kind of maybe
- 7:09an up and coming thing, I'm not sure.
- 7:13Yeah. Yeah, Yep, there was a couple of
- 7:17them. It was, it was not just not just
- 7:21the one you mentioned, but there was there was another one right
- 7:24next to it. Was it Mose Ailesley?
- 7:25I can't remember if that was, was that the other one?
- 7:28And they had a few that they brought with them too.
- 7:30They had a Mitch you and I tried their rum, barely their rum
- 7:35cider. Oh, yeah, Yeah.
- 7:36From Mose Ailesley. Dude, that's dangerous. 9 1/2%,
- 7:41It's like rum runner slider. Yeah.
- 7:43Holy shit. I'll have to go try that one.
- 7:46It was so good. I didn't have it, but you were
- 7:49talking about. It's a week 9% ABV or 9.5.
- 7:53It didn't drink. It didn't drink like it.
- 7:56For a cider. Oh, wait.
- 7:58Yeah, it's wild, man. You.
- 7:59Describe it because you put Sailor Jerry in it.
- 8:04It's Sailor Jerry and I do not get home.
- 8:06Oh no, I'm not a I'm not a Sailor Jerry fan either.
- 8:12No, don't. Don't call them out.
- 8:13Nope, that's OK. Hey, can we ask, since you're
- 8:15obviously here from Calm and John, can we ask like what is
- 8:18Calm and John brought today? So today is a a different beer
- 8:23festival for Calm and John. We are serving three different
- 8:26sours. First time ever to have three
- 8:29sours on, 2 on tap, one in a can, no IPA whatsoever.
- 8:35We've got some negative feedback with that, but you know, people
- 8:39like the Ipas from Calm John and stuff.
- 8:41But we got a cotton candy sour beer, we got a Creamsicle beer,
- 8:46and we got our jam box with the PB and J Sour.
- 8:51All three are great and excellent.
- 8:52Jam box is so good. Jam box jam.
- 8:55Box is good. It's so good.
- 8:56Very. Lebron's done a really good job
- 8:58on getting that one to where it's at today.
- 9:03There's, well, there's AE. And Jays and jam boxes at the
- 9:05top of my opinion. Yeah, the jam box is in cans, so
- 9:10all cans is there. That's all we have.
- 9:12So, so I wouldn't wait till closing time, you know.
- 9:16We have to stop. Yeah.
- 9:20No, this is things straight even.
- 9:22OK. You said we just came just for
- 9:24the whole river section. Yeah.
- 9:25What is it, 6 or 8 over there? Yep, and it was it.
- 9:31Was ever since we're seeing people that so I was through
- 9:35it's awesome so and we have the meet up.
- 9:38Yeah, I haven't hit the commercial breweries.
- 9:41I know. That's why I'm headed to Cedar,
- 9:43Cedar City to get their Oak Rye IPA, I believe it is.
- 9:49Heard about that and so I want to try it.
- 9:52That's awesome. They do.
- 9:56They got a cool venue, yes, and I was told this morning that
- 10:03they've opened the third level up.
- 10:04They have live music up on the third level, yes.
- 10:10Right on the square. And if you're there lucky, like
- 10:12on a day-to-day, they'll open up the front garage door windows
- 10:15out on the sidewalks. You can set it out on sidewalk
- 10:18and have a beer. Stories about that place I
- 10:21wouldn't either that's on deep Calvin on any side say take the
- 10:24flights and I got a flight I just.
- 10:27Were like. How many were on it?
- 10:38Whoa. Man.
- 10:46I love places that do that. There's some breweries.
- 10:48I'll just let you try them all. I was at a place coming back
- 10:51from, I think I gave you guys a can of it.
- 10:53I was coming back from Chicago and there's a place called
- 10:55Metazoa Brewing Companies in Indiana and I was like, I want a
- 10:59flight. And she's like, we don't do
- 11:00flights here. I go, OK, well I want small
- 11:02pours. Like how many can I get at a
- 11:03time? Because there's rules, right?
- 11:05There's certain states. She's like, how many do you
- 11:06want? And I was like, and like, I'm
- 11:10looking at the list. I'm like there's like 12 on
- 11:12there that I haven't had. She's like, OK, she brings me
- 11:15like 12 or 14 different 4 oz pours.
- 11:18I ordered once and I was done. It's amazing.
- 11:21Sounds good. All of them.
- 11:25All of them. All right fellas, I'm going to
- 11:26get over here and grab me a beer and get back to pouring some
- 11:29good common John. Cheers Goody.
- 11:31Beers. Good to see y'all, thanks.
- 11:32For stopping by the tan. We appreciate it.
- 11:35Good to see ya. I want to say that from the home
- 11:40Brewers section, like everything was amazing today.
- 11:43What I like about home Brewers, Common John was probably one of
- 11:47the first ones with like their, their family reunion festivals.
- 11:51East Nashville Beer Festival does it too.
- 11:54Yeah. And I've been to a few of those.
- 11:56I common John and it seems like the the cabin fever bit like
- 12:01they put the home Brewers front and center.
- 12:04Like there's not front and center.
- 12:05It's equal playing field. Like there's no difference
- 12:08between the look over there at the home Brewers, then what's at
- 12:11the the the micro brews over there.
- 12:13And I love the level playing field.
- 12:21Yeah, it was rad, man. Yeah.
- 12:25Yes, they did an IPA that was that that almost resembled the
- 12:30black IPA that was really good. Yeah.
- 12:32They had like 3 or 4 beers there today.
- 12:35Like these guys didn't show up empty handed.
- 12:37No, they didn't. No, see, I recognize you like a
- 12:47provide some context, right? Man.
- 12:54You know, it's actually great shot.
- 12:55It's been great chatting with some of the home Brewers here, a
- 12:58lot of local, some Murfreesboro, not just Murfreesboro, but I
- 13:02didn't realize Murfreesboro had this many local home Brewers and
- 13:07it is really cool and the passion that they bring and you
- 13:12know, the amount of years that some of them have been doing
- 13:15this, you know? Yeah.
- 13:20Fully rectory sets what home girl he is in this area.
- 13:23Like really a good crowd. I know.
- 13:26National. Yeah, yeah.
- 13:34Any Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:43Any time you include the home Brewers, you're going to be
- 13:46extra surprised every time they bring it, man, I would guess
- 13:51some of these and that we've seen some cars Brewers over
- 13:54there. Yeah.
- 13:56People that we know, Yeah, yes, yeah.
- 14:07I wonder if there's like, because and and this is one of
- 14:10those events where it's like you see the same home Brewers at
- 14:14this festival that you saw at calm and John when they were
- 14:17doing the family reunion. It's like Rubidium was there
- 14:19both they took home the winter at, you know, at at calm and
- 14:22John their first year that they were there and now they're here
- 14:24today, quite a few of them. And, and not just home Brewers,
- 14:28but some of your smaller microbreweries that are moving
- 14:31up, Ebony and Ivory that, you know, we were there first.
- 14:33But like a lot of these names you wouldn't otherwise know that
- 14:37are at one beer festival, they show up at another.
- 14:40It's the only place you can get their beer.
- 14:42You can't get rubidium in stores, right.
- 14:44You can't get Mose Ailesley in stores.
- 14:46You can't get, you know, it's a House of dogs.
- 14:49Shout out to to Shane. It's like you can't get them
- 14:52anywhere else. The exclusivity for anyone who's
- 14:55looking for those, like extra credit check insurance and
- 14:58everything. It's a beer fest with home
- 15:00Brewers, man. Yeah, 1000%.
- 15:01Such a great time, it gives them a chance to showcase their
- 15:06stuff. Yeah.
- 15:07I think for those of us, yeah. And I think for those of us who
- 15:12love, you know, we're nerds. We love to check in beer on
- 15:15Untapped, the whole Brewers. You come here and you can find
- 15:18their beer probably on Untapped, you can check it in.
- 15:21You're not going. To be can you really?
- 15:22Maybe, I don't know. Can you do that?
- 15:24And well, it's not all or you. Just.
- 15:26Yeah, just write it in, you know, or even if you can't check
- 15:30it in on ZAP, you can still boast.
- 15:32Yeah, crap beer guys that we had their beer.
- 15:34That's a good point. And they're bringing it.
- 15:39The brewery has to be available. You have to be able to select
- 15:42the brewery when you're creating a a drink.
- 15:45It's not a beer anymore, It's a drink.
- 15:48Yeah, most of the time they are. Nope.
- 15:55Somebody checked out at Zani Water the other day.
- 15:58I think the new thing with Untapped is like you got to get
- 16:00like Pepsi Ice or 2000s era to get any kind of St. cred on the
- 16:05Untapped. Now that's true.
- 16:07So what are the clear Pepsi? Yeah, Clear Pepsi.
- 16:10Yeah, that's what I'm thinking of.
- 16:11Yeah, yeah, yeah. Pepsi Blue Insider should be the
- 16:17only ones that should be able to check in.
- 16:22I think it should be the I think it should be the general
- 16:24population that Canada on the insider should not be able to
- 16:28check in anything like that. That's just my opinion.
- 16:30By the way, this is an unpopular opinion, but I pay for my
- 16:34untapped subscription six months at a time.
- 16:36It's like 4 bucks a month, right?
- 16:38So you just you do it, you forget about it and then six
- 16:40months later you get a charge for like 30 bucks on your credit
- 16:43card and you go, oh, I forgot about that.
- 16:45And then you just let it ride. Congratulations to untapped for
- 16:49making it big. They got bought by some big like
- 16:51soda company or big drink company or whatever.
- 16:54They don't need my money anymore.
- 16:55At some point in the next couple of months, you guys are going to
- 16:58see my My Insider badge just drop off of untapped and I'm
- 17:03going to be rating beers in 20 and and quarters again.
- 17:08They don't need my $4.00 a month anymore.
- 17:10Like I don't know. I just it's it kind of lost his
- 17:12appeal when I could start checking in soda like Mitch
- 17:15said. I just feel like it's like you
- 17:17don't need me anymore. Maybe, yeah, they got rid of the
- 17:25temps. If you're if you're moving, if
- 17:29you're moving from an insider, it makes here's my argument,
- 17:31Scott. Maybe you'll agree with me.
- 17:33Maybe you won't round up if you're doing it to help the if
- 17:39you're doing it to help the brewery.
- 17:41Like the difference between a 3.8 and a four, what is
- 17:48eventually is a big difference. Yeah.
- 17:51Text it, text it, but message. So tell me, why didn't you
- 17:56select the Testament policies forever?
- 17:59Hey. Right.
- 18:01That's what I'm saying exactly. So I'll do it.
- 18:07Yeah, so I'll do it. Who's this ugly motherfucker
- 18:12standing next to me, by the way? Mike in his face.
- 18:21I'm sorry, guys. I get to stand next to the
- 18:23shell, so it's all good. I'm OK with it.
- 18:25But we've got Ben here too. Yeah, you know, May, may, may
- 18:29real quick. Yeah, we got one in the house.
- 18:31I'm Ben with the Ales and Tales podcast coming at you teaming
- 18:35up. We're we're what we're we're
- 18:37what these guys. We we want to be what these guys
- 18:39are. How about that?
- 18:41It's cross collaboration, brawls collaboration.
- 18:44So what were we talking about? Where we coming in at?
- 18:49We had just finished. So we just finished talking
- 18:51about the home Brewer section. Oh, man.
- 18:53It's what we did first. Yeah, exactly.
- 18:55I think everybody started there because they wanted to.
- 18:58I slid in. I hadn't seen Shane Gibbs in
- 19:00forever today. And I slid in there and he had
- 19:01like 1/2 a bottle of his chocolate cherry stout.
- 19:05And like, this is what came to you first, man.
- 19:07Yeah, maybe you gotta sit at the last all of them.
- 19:18I hit a good bit of them, like the avocado brewery, whatever,
- 19:22had a great pina colada. Were they there?
- 19:24Yeah. Oh, they were they were there
- 19:26big signs to like good artwork. Like, OK, they've invested a lot
- 19:29of money as home Brewers into branding already.
- 19:32Yeah. And it was a dude that had me
- 19:35and I'm not a big fan of Mead. Oh, it was the best thing there.
- 19:39I think it was phenomenal. Oh, they he's like, try this
- 19:43one. He they bust out some one of the
- 19:44tables. They try this one yo I don't
- 19:47know, I don't remember the name but they were great.
- 19:49I know you're talking about Mead right now.
- 19:51Michelle's over here dancing to the beast of the music in the
- 19:54background. Michelle, Michelle and Ben got
- 19:56here about 45 minutes ago and they're already feeling good.
- 20:00Absolutely they feel good. Good progress already.
- 20:03That's that's very judgmental. Did you guys, that's not
- 20:06judgmental. I don't know what you put
- 20:08through the 1st 10. Check the time.
- 20:10Maybe I know. Did you start?
- 20:12Did you start at the home section?
- 20:14Yes. Did you start all the way down?
- 20:15I started at the very end. Yeah.
- 20:18Great, great samples. Classic Chris yeah, I mean some
- 20:26I I feel like they were rushing some of their tanks and their
- 20:30heads the. Story of the Edmonds.
- 20:32Be ready for today. Yeah, there's some stuff that's
- 20:35seen. I'm not going to say who.
- 20:37Gotcha. Overall, I really like it, yeah.
- 20:41Yeah, I think there was a good show out today, a lot of them
- 20:43that we saw at the Common John, last bit.
- 20:46There's a lot a. Lot of them.
- 20:47Rubidium was there. Ailes Mosley was there.
- 20:52At the last beer fest on earth. That's right, maybe.
- 20:56I was. I was.
- 20:57There. I know you were there.
- 20:58Yeah. Michelle may or may not have sat
- 21:00down at the table with us for a little while.
- 21:03So we got a we had a good time. What's been you guys is from the
- 21:06home brew section. Do you guys have a favorite that
- 21:08you had? I'll be honest, again, I really
- 21:10like the avocado. I think they're putting out,
- 21:13here's this brewery name like this avocado.
- 21:14They have the lime ale, the Nutella ones, the banana, the
- 21:18banana one. I think they're putting out
- 21:20excellent quality. That is good, I like that.
- 21:23Got them really good but there's that's really the standout to me
- 21:27that's the one that I could see like on Brewer brick and mortar
- 21:30level OK right yeah well that's that's going a bit too far
- 21:33because there's some other good breweries over there not the
- 21:35only one but gotcha they are the standout.
- 21:38OK, that's awesome. Oh, I that's not a skunk.
- 21:43That's not a skunk. I also just realized the
- 21:47importance of. Headphones while while doing.
- 21:50Podcast 100% I had the mic out of my mouth having a
- 21:53conversation over here while you and Michelle were talking and
- 21:56ruined about 5 minutes of your tape.
- 21:57No, it was about you only ruined about 30 seconds, so it's all
- 22:00good. It is what it is all.
- 22:03Right, so what's in everybody's cup?
- 22:05Right now, what are we drinking? Just pour that.
- 22:10Green bottle. Just green bottle what?
- 22:13A great name. Dude.
- 22:15Just pour that for me, yes. Thank you.
- 22:18Sorry, Michelle, what were you saying?
- 22:21No, no, no. We were making sure I had a
- 22:24Really. Fools down here.
- 22:26See that they make sure they stay out.
- 22:27Of the way of the camera. Might need a little more of
- 22:29this. Go for.
- 22:31It. Come on.
- 22:33There you go. It's done.
- 22:34Same Sign a stupid green bottle for color commentary.
- 22:43Color commentary. You can't give us two more
- 22:45hours, Sir Michael Stokes. What's up?
- 22:53Oh, so loud. So let's do this then.
- 22:55Let's go around. I think Steve, since we're
- 22:57talking about like the home Brewer section for you guys, I
- 22:59just jumped in. What was No, I'm I'm interested.
- 23:03I I need to know what was your favorite from the homebrewers
- 23:06section that was here? Rubidium was there.
- 23:09AO Isley, 3 dogs, three House of dogs.
- 23:14Fat finger was there. Avocado was there.
- 23:19For strictly selfish purposes, yeah, I'm looking for lighter.
- 23:24OK, I'm pacing myself. I feel like I feel like a lot of
- 23:29breweries need to kind of bring something light like that
- 23:34because those of us are staying five hours.
- 23:37Sure. Might need to pace ourselves.
- 23:40That might be that might be everybody.
- 23:41I need to pace. So what was your favorite
- 23:43Michelle? So I was really trying to lean
- 23:48on some ciders. Yeah, for my stomach.
- 23:50Sure. What?
- 23:53Was the Humber? Was there a Humber cidery over
- 23:55there? Rose Aylesley had a.
- 23:57Rum rum. Brother cider was Berry
- 24:00cinnamon, boy. It was a heavier apple cider
- 24:06base. I don't like sweet.
- 24:09So the French dry from cyanide. Yeah, hit all the right notes.
- 24:13It's kind of described as a Prosecco champagne.
- 24:19Yeah. Chefs.
- 24:19Perfect, perfect. OK, yeah, they do those dries
- 24:22over there and they were right. Now though, like are is cyanide
- 24:25like on the tent next to the homebrewers section.
- 24:28They're in the. Yeah, the other one it says
- 24:30right next there was Ebony and Ivory was right there.
- 24:33Yes, tenfold Yahoo, right. Yep.
- 24:35And they were in that same Gabby.
- 24:37Black Abby was Yes, they're in. I'm sorry, Marblefox.
- 24:39No, but. Marblefox is in that tent too.
- 24:42Oh, OK, See, we haven't made it down that far.
- 24:45We haven't we? Were.
- 24:47We were here before you guys. I knew what you were about to
- 24:50say. You're.
- 24:51Standing there that. Doesn't mean I'm not going to
- 24:54hell going. Don't worry.
- 24:57You're from there. I can't.
- 24:58Stand that I was. I was at Marble Fox last
- 25:01weekend, by the way, and there, and I'm so jealous about that.
- 25:04Their triple IPA that they just dropped was amazing.
- 25:09It was really good. And then they had a no go ahead
- 25:13finish something. They had a they had a triple IPA
- 25:16that they dropped and then they had a Maisie with Nectar on that
- 25:20was really good. Amazing.
- 25:21Nectar on SO. That was.
- 25:22Super. The Nelson Sivan, Maisie and the
- 25:24nectar on is better. That whole series is really
- 25:28solid. The moment I knew I was sold on
- 25:30Marvel Fox is like when after they first opened and they had a
- 25:34lactose free milkshake IPA. Yeah.
- 25:38And I go, what was that on the F?
- 25:40Do you make a lactose free milkshake IPA?
- 25:43And so I got talking to I think it was John Junior, John Junior
- 25:46and I might have been senior, but he was like, we just what I
- 25:50did is I took an F ton of vanilla beans and you know, real
- 25:54vanilla beans, like split them up and the vanilla bean will
- 25:57body out the beer and I'm going my mind was blown.
- 26:02Oh, that is incredibly ingenuitive.
- 26:05It's expensive, but incredibly engine Note is great because
- 26:08sometimes the lactose and beer gets to be overplayed.
- 26:10It gets that mouthfeel, it can build up and it was fantastic.
- 26:14And it makes somebody like me more hyper aware if there's
- 26:19dairy in these creamy milkshake Ipas.
- 26:23But with Marble Fox it, it's just the brewing process with
- 26:27the oatmeal. I don't know the science behind
- 26:31it, but that's how they can do that without.
- 26:34So it's there we go. Without dairy.
- 26:38Thank you, Snow. Dairy.
- 26:39So I've made this. Mobilon too, it gives a little
- 26:40bit of that cloudiness. OK, Yeah.
- 26:43It's only like mostly vanilla. That's awesome.
- 26:45No, vanilla gives that mouthfeel that kind of coat your tongue
- 26:50makes you happy. And then the thickness from the
- 26:52OK. What kind of podcast are we
- 26:55doing come. On down here.
- 26:56Hello. Hello.
- 26:57Everybody dogs. What's going on?
- 27:00Yeah. Shane, this is also quite
- 27:01familiar to you. By the way, you've got.
- 27:03You've. Done some things with beer.
- 27:05At the home. Oh yeah.
- 27:06Yeah. Favorite beer at the home
- 27:07Brewers? Here we go, Mom.
- 27:09Yours. What?
- 27:10Which one? The Dunkle?
- 27:12Dunkle. Yes, Sir, that was the Dunkle.
- 27:14That was the other one I was thinking of.
- 27:16The Dunkle was solid. Thank you.
- 27:19Really love the type of chocolate cherry stout, black
- 27:21IPA Dunkle. Were those the three?
- 27:24Was there a fourth Dunkle? Black IPA and the.
- 27:26Chocolate Chocolate Cherry Stout.
- 27:27Which is now gone. There's no more chocolate.
- 27:29Cherry. No more chocolate cherry stout.
- 27:30That was a good call, Steve. I forgot.
- 27:32Yeah, because we were trying to remember the third we went
- 27:34through, like the chocolate cherry stout.
- 27:36Yeah. And then I was like.
- 27:37And then there was the black IPA and I was like, there was
- 27:39another one. And I was like.
- 27:41And it was the one I I had and I really enjoyed it.
- 27:44I can't. Apparently I got a ball.
- 27:45Look at that turtle. Whop right now. 123 cheers.
- 27:50So happens when you do a live, right?
- 27:51Right. So that Dunkle was actually the
- 27:54collaboration beer that all the home Brewers used.
- 27:57We used warts, all the wart and everything was provided by
- 27:59Middle Ground. Oh yes.
- 28:01Yes, OK, same. So middle ground provided the
- 28:04war and then each home Brewer changed it up however they
- 28:06wanted. I had AI know you guys kept
- 28:09really good and I can't remember their name now that you
- 28:11mentioned that. You mentioned that they had
- 28:13that. Hot life.
- 28:15OK, good story, right? Yeah, Fat Finger was the first
- 28:18one I heard it from. Fat Finger, That's how it was.
- 28:20Had it. House of Dogs and then Mose
- 28:23Ailesley. Yeah, they had, but they're the
- 28:25ones that had a middle ground wart as well that started out
- 28:28that way. And you use yours for the
- 28:30Dunkle, correct. OK.
- 28:31I don't, I don't believe any other.
- 28:33Speaking of Fat Finger, that's what you told me.
- 28:34That's who it was that I was thinking of.
- 28:36He brewed a really great strong ale not that long ago that's
- 28:39essentially A barley wine. Fantastic.
- 28:43I don't believe I've seen y'all there.
- 28:44So next time we do it, you got to do the 12 beers of Christmas
- 28:47or 12 beers of July, Miss All right, like it's so much fun.
- 28:52He had that. I picked that randomly and that
- 28:55was cruise I've ever had. OK, that's awesome.
- 28:57OK, which spriri? Fat finger.
- 29:00Fat finger, which one? Which one is pouring Shane from
- 29:03a House of dogs perspective, which one is pouring fat?
- 29:07The chocolate cherry stout. Let's take that off the table
- 29:09because you had bottles, you brought a very like small supply
- 29:11of it, right? But you have the dunkle, you've
- 29:13got the black IPA. Which one are people navigating
- 29:15towards the most? Are they doing both?
- 29:18They're doing both, but definitely.
- 29:19The jungle, I'm going through more of the jungle than I am the
- 29:22black IPA and I think with that being it's a lot of people just
- 29:25aren't doing black Ipas. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:27But I. Did.
- 29:28Just convert somebody who says I don't like Ipas, I never drink
- 29:32them and he's like but let me try it.
- 29:35He loved it. He then went and got a dunkle,
- 29:38then came back for another black IPAIII liked them both.
- 29:41I like the black IPA better. The black.
- 29:43IPA is. A.
- 29:44It's a different style. I like the hoppiness of an IPA,
- 29:49but whatever. You do to.
- 29:53Create. A roasty.
- 29:56Dark notes So, so many people get.
- 29:58Hung up on the. Color of the beer, right?
- 30:00Like, Oh my God. Guinness is.
- 30:02Super heavy because it's so dark.
- 30:04Guinness is a light beer. The same calories as like
- 30:08Michelob Light, all right, it's 125 calories a pint, right?
- 30:12The black IPA, I think it's. The.
- 30:13Same thing. That's the black, the darkness.
- 30:15They're like, oh, it's going to be a heavy beer.
- 30:17And like, it's an IPA 5%. You roast a little bit of the
- 30:20malt, like guess and, you know, use, you know, 5% of a darker
- 30:24malt and it goes in there and changes the color.
- 30:25And it's really not that different.
- 30:27It's not as different. Yeah, but also a Guinness.
- 30:31It's not black. It's actually an amber, right
- 30:36Guinness? Is an.
- 30:36Amber. Guinness is an amber Irish
- 30:39drive. Explain this to me.
- 30:41It's the color is amber. Maybe it's the color is amber.
- 30:44If you hold up the light, I did it at Guinness.
- 30:46They tell you hold up the light. It's there's an amber color that
- 30:48comes here. It's actually considered an
- 30:49amber. Fake news, fake.
- 30:52No, no, no, not fake news. Alternate facts.
- 30:55Alternate facts that's. Great.
- 30:56I'll bring you. That.
- 30:57Style. Guys, I'm just.
- 31:00So so I have AI. Have a question for Shane, since
- 31:02since he's standing on the mics, I want to talk about, let's talk
- 31:05about the names of your beers because you're very like the
- 31:09name of your brewery with House of Dogs.
- 31:11There's a mission behind it. And then the names of the beers
- 31:14themselves. So walk us through the Dunkle
- 31:16name and then walk us through the black IPA name that you
- 31:20have. And then how that like how that
- 31:22coordinates into the whole House of Dogs, like the adoption
- 31:25process. So yeah, House of.
- 31:26Dogs. It was a really easy name to
- 31:28come by because we own five dogs.
- 31:30We have 5 dogs currently. When my wife and I met, she had
- 31:34a bunch of dogs and we just keep rescuing them.
- 31:36We've rescued dogs from Alabama, Memphis, here in Nashville.
- 31:41I mean, we there's a need. And we try to fulfill.
- 31:44That need and then with the home brewery aspect, I try to give
- 31:47each beer something to do with dogs as far as the name goes so
- 31:51the doggone IPA, that was the collaboration beer that we did
- 31:55and everything and we it got delayed by a week with the snow
- 31:58storm that came through and it's just like doggone it.
- 32:01So doggone you know, that makes sense, you know doggone dunkle
- 32:05rather and then Cash is black Ipaw a cash is one of our dogs.
- 32:11We used to think he was a lab. We found out he's actually a
- 32:13Great Pyrenees. What?
- 32:16He's a black dog. Pyrenees are generally white.
- 32:19Ipas are generally lighter in color that golden ale, and so
- 32:23we're black IPA, we'll do the black.
- 32:26Dog that most. People think are white, the
- 32:28Great Pyrenees and his name is Cash.
- 32:30So cash is black ipaul a ipaul. We've done more in the past
- 32:40like. Sticky Paws Pale Ale?
- 32:42Yep. So it's just so we always.
- 32:44Try and bring it back to the dogs.
- 32:45The chocolate lab cherry stout. I was going to ask about the
- 32:48Cherry Stout I. Couldn't remember if there was a
- 32:50name for that one. Yeah, the Chocolate Lab Cherry
- 32:52Stout. Cherry stout, Yeah.
- 32:53So you know I will. Try and bring it back to the
- 32:55dog. Can I tell a really bad joke?
- 32:58It's dog related. OK.
- 33:00Hi, what do you call a dog with four inch legs and 6 inch
- 33:04metallic balls Really cold the winter?
- 33:07Sparky, Sparky. I don't get it.
- 33:11I've had enough beer to where I don't get the joke.
- 33:14It's really I didn't. Like the Sparks?
- 33:18Told you was. Dumb.
- 33:19Yeah. That's like I asked permission.
- 33:22I like dad jokes, so I'm OK with it.
- 33:24So like, is that a dad joke? No, but I'm used to like dumb
- 33:27jokes. I'm using dad jokes are dumb
- 33:29jokes. They're in the same category.
- 33:31So you have a favorite dad joke? No, I'm actually one of those
- 33:34dads that haven't like I I typically have never get Mitch.
- 33:37If anything, the guy that doesn't have kids is amazing
- 33:40with puns and dad jokes. That is right here is like this
- 33:44time we have no kids, but we love dad jokes.
- 33:48I guess that makes us faux pas. That was actually Mitch who was
- 33:53opening. Up.
- 33:53That was a good one. All right, I got one for you
- 33:58before I roll. Out, yeah.
- 34:00So. Where do you go when you have?
- 34:04A peekaboo accident when you have a what?
- 34:06A peekaboo. Accident.
- 34:07A peekaboo accident. You're playing peekaboo.
- 34:09Where do you go? If you get hurt.
- 34:10Are you going there? What kind of peek the ICU?
- 34:17Let's go and pass out on That's a rap, folks.
- 34:20Thank you so much. You know what?
- 34:22I like that so much. I see you later.
- 34:24Yeah. I I.
- 34:26Think. You peeked.
- 34:27At that moment, you peeked. Speaking of.
- 34:31Hold the hold the name of this beer up to the camera.
- 34:33Bitch, This is awesome. This is this is fantastic.
- 34:36Nice. You know, it's a classic here.
- 34:42Yeah. I'll see who always brings the
- 34:43goods. I think it's great.
- 34:45Are you out? I am out, Jane man.
- 34:47Appreciate you brother. Thank.
- 34:48You so much guys. Thanks for jumping.
- 34:49Man, I'm going to do the. Same and leave you all back.
- 34:51To it. Good to see you there.
- 34:52Thank you for having me on, guys.
- 34:54Love it. Let's let's get together again
- 34:56doing the crossover. We, we generally do it like once
- 34:59a month. I want y'all to come over and
- 35:00we'll do it. We'll do it, share beer and
- 35:02shoot the shit. We're up for anything that
- 35:04sounds good. Shout out to Ben.
- 35:05Shout out to Michelle for stopping by with us today.
- 35:09Enjoy the beer festival guys. One of the only things.
- 35:14That goes even better than another beer with a beer is a
- 35:18cigar itself. Yeah, we've got probably the
- 35:21only guy taller than me at the entire beer festival.
- 35:24His hat is literally hitting the top of the that dude.
- 35:27This dude's got class CL trees from whiskey and sticks.
- 35:30Shout out to Murfreesboro. What's going on?
- 35:32Everybody. Everybody.
- 35:34Everybody out there in TV Land, Amen.
- 35:36We've not met, but it's. Good to meet you.
- 35:37Hey my brother. It's always.
- 35:39Good, Scott, I, I see, I see you on the, the podcast with the
- 35:42guys. So it's a pleasure to meet you.
- 35:43Yep, thank you. Thank you.
- 35:44Thank you. CL runs Whiskey and Sticks Cigar
- 35:47Lounge out of Murfreesboro 10. He's been on with you guys,
- 35:49right? Yeah, I've heard that.
- 35:51I've heard it. Long history with him.
- 35:54He was actually a guest with us when we were at Bearded Iris
- 35:57doing our very first live show. That was awesome.
- 35:59That was the first one. We did.
- 36:00CL did a lot like a. Pairing cigar with what style
- 36:03beer and blew our minds in terms of what style cigars go with
- 36:07what beers. It was completely different than
- 36:10what we had initially thought. Our style was more like dark
- 36:14heavy cigars go with dark beers with that makes sense.
- 36:17And CL said he prefers more of a medium body cigar to go with the
- 36:21dark beer because the the flavors complement each other.
- 36:23They don't cancel each other out.
- 36:25That blew my mind that day. So you guys learned a lot from
- 36:27that, huh? Oh yeah, percent.
- 36:29You know they, they, they. Bring a lot of.
- 36:34Different aspects to. The game as far as beers, I
- 36:39think beer needs to be on the level of your scotches and your
- 36:42whiskeys and bourbons because you find a lot of people now,
- 36:46especially from a lounge perspective, they'll come in and
- 36:49they're drinking beer, you know, to be honest.
- 36:55Scotch. Bourbons.
- 36:57Whiskeys they. Burn out your palate, especially
- 37:00if you go to the higher prune. Well, they're hot.
- 37:02Yeah, they're very, very hot. So it destroys that flavor of
- 37:06the cigar. So this is, it becomes bland by
- 37:08the end. But a beer, just like coffee and
- 37:13tea, it's not science, but it cleans your palate, right?
- 37:16So, you know, it's more cleansing and, you know, I think
- 37:19it's just a better. I'm a my foundation's beer, but
- 37:23I've matriculated into other things.
- 37:25But I'm telling you, beer is my first love, OK?
- 37:28And I love it. Style wise, what do you go for?
- 37:31See, I know the answer, but I want I want you.
- 37:32Style wise, I am Porter. Stouts.
- 37:35Yeah, Dark. I.
- 37:37Love dark. I love drinking the beer As a
- 37:39meal replacement. Yeah, a meal replacement.
- 37:41And I know I get. That 100.
- 37:45Percent. You know, I could do a.
- 37:47A a a stout or a Porter and drink that thing and it is a
- 37:52meal replacement. I'm full for the rest of the day
- 37:54and then. But some of those can be.
- 37:56Smoky too. So that, does that lend itself
- 37:58to the cigar thing? Yeah, it does.
- 38:00It does. Especially when you have like
- 38:03the the KBB, those type of ones that have that barrel kind of
- 38:09sustenance taste to it. You're more your roasted toasted
- 38:12type things. It it, it makes the cigar pop.
- 38:18You taste the naturalness of that cigar, no matter if it's
- 38:21flight to dark. It's just a beautiful thing.
- 38:24And like I said, I wish more people would least try.
- 38:29Beer and cigar pairings I. Mean you're trying everything
- 38:32else. Yeah.
- 38:34Find you a good beer, one that you like and then let's compare
- 38:39those type things. Natural is natural, you know,
- 38:43natural tobacco, natural wheat part and flair, all that stuff.
- 38:47It's it's beautiful. Especially when a beer is 6/7.
- 38:508-9 percent and that whiskey's you know, 80 proof or 90 proof
- 38:55or hunter proof or whatever. They can overpower the cigar,
- 38:58right? The the only beer.
- 39:01That blew our head off. Was we was in the lounge one
- 39:05day, I know exactly where, Mitch.
- 39:08We were in. The Lounge 1.
- 39:09Day these guys bought the Imperial style, I can't remember
- 39:14the name. There's a Living Water Stout.
- 39:15Living Water Stout there's a living.
- 39:17Water stout. I know exactly.
- 39:18Where this is going all the way so.
- 39:20We were all sitting there smoking cigars, drinking, and I
- 39:24was like, man, I'll be right back.
- 39:28I went and got a bottle of rum and we bought that SMA.
- 39:32You know what? Let's do a beer old fashioned.
- 39:37And we did we, we did the beer and the rum.
- 39:42Mix them together. We.
- 39:43Mix them. Together and surprisingly best
- 39:46tasting. It was great.
- 39:48It was awesome. Oh, it was, it was beautiful.
- 39:50It was the. Ratio of beer in a.
- 39:51Row. So, so definitely more beer.
- 39:55So it was probably if I had to put a ratio, it was probably 5
- 39:59to 2, five to three. OK, all right, so it.
- 40:01Was pretty pretty. Sizable, but one thing about it
- 40:05was guys, we just created something.
- 40:08Yeah, that. Worked.
- 40:11And. We're old fashioned.
- 40:13I mean, that's one of the things that did.
- 40:14But it it was good, but it was trust.
- 40:18Have you have you tried that? Since yes, I infected it.
- 40:21Yes, yes, he said. I, of course we had to.
- 40:26That was in the VIP. Section it wasn't the VIP
- 40:28because. I remember we were sitting.
- 40:30Around and all of a sudden, it was like these two guys, Mitch
- 40:34and CL, had the same exact thought.
- 40:36I could see CL's brain like the hamster was like it was.
- 40:39It was running on the wheel right on my ears.
- 40:42Yeah. Gets up and.
- 40:44Walks over. Because the you know and and
- 40:46right at the same time CL goes we should mix beer with rum
- 40:50together and see what happens. This is a good idea.
- 40:52Mitch was already on his way to do it.
- 40:55The guys have like this connections.
- 40:57Thought it was the best drink that went with a cigar.
- 41:02It is. I was.
- 41:04I I remember. Vividly, I was smoking.
- 41:07I think it was a corojo, yes. So it wasn't over the top.
- 41:10Like it wasn't a heavy dark black cigar.
- 41:13It was like a like a medium to dark brown cigar, little bit
- 41:16peppery, but it was like it was very smooth and easy to smoke.
- 41:20And we were drinking the beer and I was like, oh, this is a
- 41:22good combination. I was taking like C LS opinion
- 41:25of like getting a medium bodied cigar with a very heavy stout
- 41:30putting it together. But when when CL decided to mix
- 41:34the two together, it was just it was rum, right?
- 41:38That is rum. Put it over the top.
- 41:40Yeah, man. Have you tried?
- 41:42Something other than Rome? Have you tried a bourbon or
- 41:44anything like that? So what what what I've?
- 41:46Done is I. Do I?
- 41:49Did a Guinness. I did Guinness and I.
- 41:53Did a. It was a.
- 41:59Guinness and. An Irish.
- 42:02It was an Irish stout, something that we did with it.
- 42:06I can't remember the name of it, but it had a little bit of cream
- 42:09to it. Yeah.
- 42:10So. But if?
- 42:11You put if you put. Whiskey into.
- 42:15I learned this the hard way. Put whiskey into a Guinness.
- 42:18It foams up. So my first.
- 42:21Iteration number I. Was doing I was like booney.
- 42:23I was like, well, some math scientists I know if I need to
- 42:27clean something up, it's the way to do it, but we did that.
- 42:30But my favorite one was the I did a milk stout.
- 42:36With bullet. Rye, OH.
- 42:40OK, sell you love rye, Bullet Rye and I.
- 42:43Did that and it was just enough, yeah, just.
- 42:47Enough. That when you drank it, it
- 42:50almost tastes like a slush. OK, when it had that dark tone
- 42:55and it was coated by the beard going down and it and it was, it
- 43:00was, it was. So I've done some more
- 43:02iterations of that, but I need my guys come because they
- 43:05they're the ones I trust with the power to do that.
- 43:07Man, it's always a good time More.
- 43:08Fun for you like trial? By error you have to you.
- 43:12Have to. Because, I mean, you learn
- 43:14through the process and you learn what works and don't work.
- 43:17Yeah. That's one thing, you know,
- 43:18pertains to cigars. I have a lot of people that come
- 43:21to the lounge that just don't know about cigars, and that's
- 43:24great. Yeah.
- 43:25Because I'm not going to let somebody come in and hit him
- 43:29with a block on 9 for the first time.
- 43:31Let block on 9 is it's the killer cigar and it will put you
- 43:35on your ass, but it's not a beginner, it's not a.
- 43:37Beginner but SO. Many people, they start at the
- 43:40dark and it blows their. Palate out.
- 43:43And they will never touch another cigar.
- 43:45So you have to, you have to take baby steps.
- 43:49And what I'm saying now is because it's so available, a lot
- 43:53of beginner smokers that go into the sweet stuff.
- 43:55But one thing I learned about the sweet stuff is it it's not a
- 44:01true taste of the tobacco. So when you go to taste it for
- 44:05real, you don't like it because it's being covered up.
- 44:09See how when you say sweet, are you talking?
- 44:11About like like a natural sweet? Are you talking about like an
- 44:13infused sugar infused infused cigars?
- 44:15Yes, infused cigars. So I try to.
- 44:18Let people. Try a natural cigar like the one
- 44:24that sells very great in the lounge now is Fuente Curdy Head
- 44:28Natural. It's a natural cigar.
- 44:32It doesn't have a lot of taste to me because I'm I've been in
- 44:34it for so long. But for somebody starting out,
- 44:37there's a perfect cigar because it doesn't give you the after
- 44:40effect, it doesn't give you the bitterness.
- 44:43What? I see more people do.
- 44:45Now is they want to try but they smoke too fast.
- 44:50I've been guilty of that. I.
- 44:51Promise you smoke too fast. And what it?
- 44:53Does see this cigar? Naturally the ash on it, it's
- 44:58like a breathing, it pulls smoke in it and it slows it down.
- 45:03But if you constantly puppet, puppet, puppet, you burn it out
- 45:07and all you doing is smoking ass and it's caught up in there
- 45:10'cause very, very it's been. That's how I tell people if the
- 45:14first sign that we're becoming bitter smoking it too fast.
- 45:18Another thing about cigars, it is to be enjoyed at your
- 45:22leisure. So many.
- 45:25People say. Coming to the lounge and say hey
- 45:28you got 30 minutes smoke. No, I don't I don't have 30
- 45:31minutes smokes. I have 45 to an hour smoke
- 45:36because if you come in there and say for 30 minutes you're going
- 45:39to waste my cigar. So I want to let you know that
- 45:41if you waste my cigar, it's going to be some issues even
- 45:45though you. Paid for it.
- 45:46But I hate. To see an unfinished cigar,
- 45:49there's a science to it. There's.
- 45:50A because you got to look at it. By the time the cigar hits your
- 45:54hand, over 300 pairs of hands have touched it.
- 45:58I mean, it's somebody. And they're only getting paid
- 46:02penis to a dollar to make this thing.
- 46:04And you rush it. Come on.
- 46:06At least at least respect. Yeah.
- 46:08Respect the art of it. You know, it says you're
- 46:11established. In 2022.
- 46:13Yes Sir. Yes, Sir.
- 46:14How many years was it before? That leading up to where you got
- 46:17established. So I've been smoking.
- 46:20Cigars since my grandfather. So it's been a long time.
- 46:25It's been, it's probably 15 to 20 years before I really.
- 46:29Started but. I actually started doing mobile
- 46:31first. I did mobile events.
- 46:33Actually, I started doing COVID when everybody was locked down
- 46:38and people just want something to do.
- 46:40So I just said, hey, just do cigars if you're not afraid to
- 46:44be around. And some people, you know, we
- 46:46can social distance. Yeah, yeah.
- 46:48And that's how it kind of started.
- 46:50Yep. So another quick thing is
- 46:51whiskey and sticks. Everybody thinks it's about
- 46:53whiskey. Actually, if you look at my
- 46:55logo, I know you can't see it all there.
- 46:56There's no E in the whiskey. There's no E in the.
- 46:58Whiskey with there is. No spelling whiskey.
- 47:00It's Scottish, right? So my logo is a.
- 47:02Dog with antlers. Whiskey is my hunting dog.
- 47:06And what do dogs do? They fetch sticks, whiskey and
- 47:09sticks. So I love telling the story.
- 47:12So when people come into my lounge, everybody loves a story,
- 47:15right? I leave with that because they
- 47:17say where the whiskey at? I said, well, he's hunting right
- 47:19now. And it always throws them off
- 47:22right? So, but yeah, that's a beautiful
- 47:24thing about it. It's just having people come in
- 47:27and building the community going back to that 30.
- 47:29Minute cigar, a 30 minute cigar. It's like chugging a good
- 47:33whiskey like a chugging a good bourbon.
- 47:35If you if someone puts a nice bourbon in front of you, you
- 47:38don't you sip it right. It takes your time on absolutely
- 47:40people shooting good whiskey. You did it.
- 47:43You. Did it wrong.
- 47:44What's the problem? Is sometimes there's people like
- 47:46me, I just kind of jumped in here, but.
- 47:53There's those I I can't. Commit to a one hour smoke man.
- 47:56I can't sit still that long. That's OK.
- 48:00Today you can't. Well, maybe not today.
- 48:01You're kind of definitely not today, but.
- 48:05I want to. I want to highlight real quick.
- 48:06We've taken up a lot of your time, but like real quick in the
- 48:09back you've got the mobile cigar lounge with you today.
- 48:12Kind of give us before you head out.
- 48:13OK, so so we have a mobile. Cigar.
- 48:15It's an inflatable cigar that we started about two years ago.
- 48:18So it's a sustainable. We have tables and chairs in
- 48:22there. My God, shout out to Tim with
- 48:24Kima cigars. He's my hand roller.
- 48:27He does all my hand roll cigars there and we do events across
- 48:31Middle Tennessee, Alabama, places that we can get to.
- 48:34So it's bare minimum because we want to make sure that you
- 48:38purchase a good cigars and and an experience.
- 48:40So that's what we do. That's awesome.
- 48:42And I and I got to tell this guy, this guy right here, man,
- 48:44he's, he reached out to me. He said, hey, I'm going through
- 48:48this thing. He said, would you be
- 48:49interested? I was like.
- 48:52No, I wouldn't be interested. Well, yeah, I want to be
- 48:54interested because guess what beer cigars go as that's my jam.
- 48:59So absolutely, this man had the vision and I appreciate it.
- 49:03Including us in that vision. They really thought to us, well,
- 49:06we, we love local. And these guys are local.
- 49:08I I've never heard the story about your logo.
- 49:10That's awesome. By the way, did y'all check out
- 49:13his hat? Yeah, it's got the extra.
- 49:15Saga that is bad ass dude. That's great, that's fantastic.
- 49:19CL always shows up with class. I mean, he brings.
- 49:22It into and God knows Cedar Glade needs some class sometimes
- 49:25so I wasn't going to say. It though he's.
- 49:27Bringing it, but that's OK. Usually when.
- 49:29We're all in there. You can probably.
- 49:30Class it up. I'll bring it down a little bit.
- 49:32I'm not going to lie. Well, guys, I'll tell you I
- 49:33appreciate. The time I'm going to get back.
- 49:35Down here and get some sticks sold.
- 49:36I'll trace in the house later. Good to meet you my.
- 49:37Friend. Thank you, Sir.
- 49:38All right. All.
- 49:40Right, cameraman, Cameraman, get it together.
- 49:45Hi, gosh, I'm a gold. Thanks.
- 49:46El appreciate it. All right.
- 49:48It's a pleasure meeting you. Sir.
- 49:49All right. Cheers, man.
- 49:51Speaking of important people, that couldn't have happened this
- 49:54beer festival without. We've got John Harmon in the
- 49:56house today. The man himself is here.
- 49:58Oh, wait. A.
- 49:58Minute. Wait, wait, who are you again?
- 50:00I think he owns a brewery in. Murfreesboro You were not too
- 50:04busy to. Talk to the money behind some of
- 50:06the brewery in. Murfreesboro, amongst other
- 50:09things, and. I'll tell you what I so I've
- 50:13learned so freaking much about festivals.
- 50:16This is your first one. This is it.
- 50:17This is the first one, yeah. Yeah.
- 50:19And, and, and so you know John Pritt, if you don't know John
- 50:23Pritt from Tom and John down that direction.
- 50:25Yeah, Incredible human being. And John, there's the guy.
- 50:28Yeah. There's LeBron right there,
- 50:30yeah. There he is.
- 50:32There he is, LeBron and. So.
- 50:34You know he helped. US.
- 50:35And then come on in here, buddy. And here we go.
- 50:39Don't. Turn it back to the.
- 50:40Camera. It's right there.
- 50:41Oh hey, look at that. Sorry.
- 50:42Right here. Apologize.
- 50:43Hello. So, you know, John Credit, Devin
- 50:48Russell and Ted Swastik, those those three right there, they
- 50:52made this happen. So how long was this beer?
- 50:55Festival in the world because you've been promoting this for a
- 50:57while between you and John, you guys have been promoting this
- 51:00for a while I know you tapped John to kind of help out with
- 51:03some of the promotions and things like that yeah, for sure
- 51:06so here's. Here's the crazy part.
- 51:08We did not spend enough time promoting this at the beginning.
- 51:11So we actually started this about August, September and and
- 51:15we should have spent a lot more time on it.
- 51:16It would be way better, but it's not too bad where it is.
- 51:20It's hard to be. It's not hard being.
- 51:22Better than where it's at right now.
- 51:23We were talking to you earlier. And you basically said last
- 51:27night, what you weren't getting much.
- 51:29I I did not sleep. For nothing last night, y'all, I
- 51:33ended up I moved down to the recliner and I'm like I can't
- 51:36sleep and my wife's like please go to sleep.
- 51:39So yeah, it was bad. I didn't, I mentioned.
- 51:42This to LeBron too, and I'll I'll say it again to you too,
- 51:45John, like I appreciate and Tom and John does the same thing
- 51:47when they had their their festivals.
- 51:49Like the home Brewers are kind of on the same level in terms of
- 51:53like with the commercial breweries right now.
- 51:55It's like there's the home breweries at one end and it just
- 51:58naturally flows into commercial micro breweries and then it goes
- 52:02into food. It's really cool to see home
- 52:05Brewers being elevated to the same level that some of these
- 52:08craft Brewers are because there is no other place for them to do
- 52:12that. Like they don't have a spot
- 52:13where people can show up and buy their beer.
- 52:16They don't have a spot where they can other than like social
- 52:18media. The only thing better than
- 52:20social media right now is physically getting out somewhere
- 52:23and festivals like, you know, the the family reunion festival
- 52:27that they had and then, you know, and then cabin fever.
- 52:30Those festivals are where these homebrewers get elevated.
- 52:33Yeah. Do you want to talk to that?
- 52:34Yeah. I mean.
- 52:35You know, I, I think. I think Cedar Glades in the same
- 52:37boat as us is like that's where we came from.
- 52:39So it's always just paying respect to the people that I
- 52:42mean, that's where we were at. And you know, the the
- 52:44homebrewers for the most part make amazing beer too.
- 52:48And they do a lot of crazy shit. That's it.
- 52:50It's right there. Sorry, I can clear a shot.
- 52:52Yeah, you're good. Oh.
- 52:54No. That's 100%.
- 52:55I'm a fun though, you know, so a.
- 52:56Lot of this stuff that we end up doing is commercial breweries
- 52:59came comes from stuff that start out home brewing.
- 53:01And you know we. We.
- 53:02Do it because we need to make some money at it right?
- 53:04And we do a little bit of crazy shit.
- 53:05Y'all do too, but at the end of the day, if you really want to
- 53:09see the experiments, you really want to see the the creativity,
- 53:12it's the homebird. Absolutely.
- 53:14Hey, so we got the guy. Obviously he does the common
- 53:17John Beer Festival, last beer fest on earth.
- 53:19And you're doing this. It's your first year.
- 53:22What advice? I mean, the collaboration
- 53:24between you 2. There's been a lot of fun
- 53:26conversations, right? Oh yeah, I mean, and John.
- 53:29You know, John loves doing this and I, I, I have to, I have to.
- 53:32I have to give him. All the credit, that's where
- 53:34ours started, was when we were talking about elevating our
- 53:36anniversary. He was like, why don't you do a
- 53:38beer fest? I was like, that'd be cool, but
- 53:41like. It's a lot of work.
- 53:42And he's like, I will coordinate everything so it natural fit,
- 53:45you know, I mean, we love these guys and he's a.
- 53:47Mad genius, yeah. It's just.
- 53:49His, it's his, his lane. That's what he loves doing.
- 53:53So yeah, he's pretty Darn. Good at it.
- 53:55There's no way we could have done it without him.
- 53:57So what's what's Cedar Glade? Pouring today, by the way,
- 54:00they've got I think 3 or 4 of them on top or more than that.
- 54:03So we've got. Our pecan Porter, our amber and
- 54:06our ESB over there and then for the for the VIP hour, we did our
- 54:12it's a imperial stout that had a it sat in a leaper's fork barrel
- 54:18for 340 some days. And then a our two uncommon,
- 54:22which is a Kentucky common. It sat in a Jack Daniels rye
- 54:25barrel I had. The I had the.
- 54:27Uncommon. Did you do the two uncommon when
- 54:29it wasn't barrel aged? Yes.
- 54:31Did you have those in? Bottles.
- 54:33No, just only the barrel aging. Can OK, gotcha.
- 54:36OK. That was a solid beer.
- 54:38I loved that series. It's weird and I love it.
- 54:41Yeah, yeah, it just works. Yeah, Yeah, you guys and you
- 54:44guys mentioned this. Earlier about the home Brewers,
- 54:46but of all the Brewers breweries that are here, the local ones,
- 54:50even other places, how excited do you guys really get to be
- 54:55able to try new things that you haven't had before?
- 54:58I'd love to hear both of your professors.
- 54:59I mean, it's it's. Not only the home Brewers, of
- 55:01course, you know, they, they have the flexibility, you know,
- 55:04doing smaller batches to do some crazy stuff, but even just going
- 55:07around and trying the different beers from, you know, our fellow
- 55:09commercial breweries too. Yep, I mean it, it, you know,
- 55:13and everybody talks about it right now.
- 55:15We're kind of getting beat up and in, in the beer world.
- 55:18And part of it is it hurts me as a beer purist to do it.
- 55:22But like you, you got to have things that attract new
- 55:24customers, you know, and the, the fruited sours and things
- 55:28like that. Now, you know, are big.
- 55:29And I, I love it and hate it. I love it because it, it's,
- 55:33it's, it's, it's something that gets people in.
- 55:35They wouldn't normally even come try beer.
- 55:37And that's what today we we brought just off crazy festival
- 55:40beers, we call them if you haven't had it.
- 55:43That orange dreamsicle that they brought, I've been over there,
- 55:46they've got 3. Sours onto that Orange 1 is good
- 55:50and there's one beer that we do it's a it's a malt based sour,
- 55:54but it's our. Cotton.
- 55:57Candy, Mystical Unicorn. And we pretty much only do it
- 56:00for festivals. Yeah, we do.
- 56:02You know, either A5 or 15. Gallon batch of it.
- 56:05And just take it to the. Festivals, we every once in a
- 56:08while will do some for the tap room, but it's kind of like our
- 56:10festival special we do and Robert.
- 56:12Robert will do the. Same thing too, it's like
- 56:14Robert's very good with like brewing clean beers.
- 56:17Like Robert does really good like pails.
- 56:19He does good loggers, good wits and things like that.
- 56:23And then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, he'll come out with
- 56:25like the chocolate milk stout or he'll come out with like a hazy
- 56:29IP, like very smoothie salad that pours.
- 56:30Like yeah, yeah, I think, I think the.
- 56:33Last one, you guys. Had a Baltic.
- 56:34Porter that I had a couple of weeks ago that was there.
- 56:37So like it's it's cool to see breweries that are sticking to
- 56:41like the original style beers, like the true to style beers.
- 56:45But like LeBron said, you have to do something.
- 56:47Us brewery lovers, like, we love that style of beer more than
- 56:51anything, but we're always looking for something that we
- 56:53haven't had before. Yeah, for sure.
- 56:54And so you kind of have to pander to.
- 56:56Well, we did a, we did a Co. Duolo Have you ever had a Co
- 56:59duolo? No, it is an Estonian specific
- 57:02style beer. We did it for our for Folk fest.
- 57:05Did we do that when we were? There.
- 57:07Yeah, I asked him. I was.
- 57:08Wondering about WAS. That the one where we kept
- 57:10trying to guess what the flavors were.
- 57:11It's super weird, right? Banana.
- 57:13And yeah, yeah, yeah, it was super weird.
- 57:16But you know, and what I love about this festival and and
- 57:20y'all's festival as well, y'all brought some some different
- 57:23stuff. You got folks like Ebony and
- 57:25Ivory out of Knoxville. You know, Chico brought some
- 57:29seltzer's that are seltzer out of this world.
- 57:32And I do not like seltzer. That's good.
- 57:34That's the strawberry Margarita. Ones that's one of the three
- 57:36five seltzer. Like they were all so.
- 57:38Good. And then you've got.
- 57:39All the way to soul and spirits out of Memphis he brought this
- 57:43barrel aged stout. That was, it was.
- 57:46It was perfect. I mean, it was truly perfect.
- 57:48It was not syrupy, it was not super thick, but it was just
- 57:51right and it was perfect. Was that the one in the
- 57:53growlers? Yeah.
- 57:55I think I missed it. I did too.
- 57:57I'm sorry that you missed it. Because it was awesome.
- 57:59I know we've talked about this many times.
- 58:00But it's not just you guys are supporting each other locally.
- 58:04It's really cool to see. It's a Tennessee initiative
- 58:07where you have a lot of breweries and others who Alpha
- 58:11State of Tennessee. Yeah, That are coming to your
- 58:13beer festival. Coming to your beer.
- 58:15Yeah. Well, I don't know if you saw
- 58:19this, but John. Pritt was trolling a little bit
- 58:21on some social media last night. So there's another festival, and
- 58:25I'm not going to name names, but he said you could go there or
- 58:28you could come drink beer with friends.
- 58:30And anyway, we're just going to leave it at that.
- 58:34I already. Knew that guy was.
- 58:35Coming today anyway. So I was just kind of like, I'm
- 58:38going to stay out of that. Yeah, I wasn't going to say
- 58:40anything. He's like.
- 58:41Or you could. Come here.
- 58:42And drink beer with friends today, if you.
- 58:43Yeah, yeah, yeah. I love it.
- 58:45And it really is. I mean, that's the.
- 58:46Thing too is like you know and we.
- 58:49Appreciate the. Same thing with him is like I
- 58:50think the Brewers love the Brewers festivals way more than
- 58:54no offense to I mean there's some amazing festivals that we
- 58:57do, but it's. We know how much.
- 59:00Trouble. Goes into coming to a festival.
- 59:02So that was the thing and Jonathan them's done it too.
- 59:05It's like we wanted to we wanted to take care of the Brewers and
- 59:08stuff so that they appreciate being here, they have fun.
- 59:11Then everybody just coming to visit to buy tickets are going
- 59:13to have, that's it, 100%. That's it.
- 59:15And not to get into the minutiae.
- 59:17At all. But this isn't just an event
- 59:19that was established, that came together yesterday.
- 59:22I mean, this has been how many months in the planet for you
- 59:25guys? Well, so I'm embarrassed.
- 59:27To say we only started like end of August, so it should have
- 59:30taken longer, but it's kind of come together.
- 59:32It's jailed. We've had a really great team.
- 59:35John Pritt, we talked about that.
- 59:36He's, I mean, he, he knew what he was doing.
- 59:38So when he was like, we can do this, but you're going to have
- 59:41to work, you know, and he, but he had a game plan.
- 59:43We attacked it and we did it. We had a good team, But I, I
- 59:46would be remiss to say if we haven't talked about it yet,
- 59:49the, the, the coolest part about this.
- 59:51So, so our brewery's right there, right?
- 59:55And the city bought this building and the city, the City
- 59:59Schools specifically, has done some really cool things with
- 1:00:02this building over here. And including they carved out a
- 1:00:05section for Read to Succeed. And if you're not familiar with,
- 1:00:08Read to Succeed. So they've got a tent set up
- 1:00:11right next to us right now, Jolene.
- 1:00:12They're super nice people. They're amazing, yeah.
- 1:00:15And let me tell you some stuff about reach and succeed.
- 1:00:18So right now they've got over 606 hundred people enrolled in
- 1:00:23their ESL classes, and that is kids and adults, 600 people in
- 1:00:29ESL right now. Yeah.
- 1:00:30So I mean, that's incredible, right?
- 1:00:32And that's just right here in Rutherford County.
- 1:00:34And then as far as like what they provide, they've got a book
- 1:00:37bus, all kinds of cool stuff. So I mean, at the end of the
- 1:00:41day, whether it's brewing beer or building walls or whatever,
- 1:00:46it all comes down to literacy. And if you, you know, if you
- 1:00:49can't read, that's a barrier. And so there's there's nothing
- 1:00:52more important to us than supporting the community through
- 1:00:56an organization that builds the community.
- 1:00:59You know what I mean? That's awesome.
- 1:01:01Good on. You guys to give?
- 1:01:02Back, though, you could throw the beer fast and just have a
- 1:01:04good time. We all here but you actually
- 1:01:05giving back. Yeah.
- 1:01:07I appreciate that about you. It's important.
- 1:01:09And I mean, that's how you honestly, I think that's a big
- 1:01:13part of why it feels so good today, You know what I mean, to
- 1:01:17look around so and Cedar Glade and Common.
- 1:01:19John, are this like they have the same mindset of community
- 1:01:22first 100% right. It's it's, it's if your
- 1:01:24community around you doesn't succeed, you guys don't have a
- 1:01:27business. That's it.
- 1:01:29So like where's? My.
- 1:01:29Dollar going to go if if I'm struggling, if I'm not doing
- 1:01:33well, I'm going to stay home. But if I, if I, if the community
- 1:01:37is being brought up, you know, and I'm like, OK, well, I have
- 1:01:39the opportunity to get out. I'm going to roll down.
- 1:01:41I'm going to see Robert, you know, at Cedar Glade.
- 1:01:43I'm going to go see what he's up to or, or, or Noah or I'm going
- 1:01:47to drive down. I'm going to meet Mitch when
- 1:01:48we're halfway at Tom and John, like, because like it's a good
- 1:01:51halfway point between where he's at in Chattanooga and where I am
- 1:01:54in Nashville. So it's like we can roll down to
- 1:01:57Tom and John and we can have a beer at 8:00 in the morning with
- 1:01:59a breakfast sandwich. It's all about the community.
- 1:02:03The other thing LeBron does? Aiden just talked.
- 1:02:07About he actually he's. Out at places.
- 1:02:08He's out at other breweries all the time.
- 1:02:10I run into him, I see you checking in beers all over the
- 1:02:13place. These guys are feet on on a tap,
- 1:02:15by the way. But you actually, I've seen you
- 1:02:17in other breweries around. Sound like you make the effort
- 1:02:20to drive. Yeah.
- 1:02:21I mean, we, we we joke about it all the time.
- 1:02:23It's like I'm fortunate. That my wife.
- 1:02:26Loves it too. So it's like she'll be like,
- 1:02:28hey, why don't we haven't been to a brewery in a while, Let's
- 1:02:30go brewery hopping, OK? That is a.
- 1:02:34Dream right there that's amazing and her and her sister and.
- 1:02:38Her sister and brother-in-law have been helping out today and
- 1:02:40they, they love it too. So like a lot of our vacations
- 1:02:43we go on, it's like we'll pick a place that's got, we haven't
- 1:02:46been to, it's got a bunch of breweries and then we'll, we'll
- 1:02:48go visit breweries and do it. And I and then John and I, he's
- 1:02:51always running and he visits every brewery in Nashville, I
- 1:02:54swear, twice a month. So he, I don't think John works
- 1:02:57where he says he works. I don't think John works at all
- 1:03:01other than that beer festival. My boss is actually floating
- 1:03:03around here too, so you better we better be careful.
- 1:03:06John works hard, well, and we know we know the.
- 1:03:09Untapped app could be controversial, but it is kind of
- 1:03:12cool. You know, I follow you on
- 1:03:13Untapped and then, you know, like sometimes, say to Scott or
- 1:03:16we'll be, we'll all be in a text and I'm like, hey, man, that's
- 1:03:20pretty cool. LeBron, he's up in Nashville.
- 1:03:22Yeah, you know, or he might be in like, Minnesota.
- 1:03:24He's everywhere. He's shooking the beers and I'm
- 1:03:26like, where the hell he's at? Tree house he's at.
- 1:03:28Yeah, Tree house, that's. Right.
- 1:03:31Well, I The funny thing thing about untapped and as a as a
- 1:03:34brewery owner, you have a love hate relationship 100% I.
- 1:03:37Don't like this? Too.
- 1:03:38It tastes like peanut butter and grape.
- 1:03:40Deal. Well, that's what it's called,
- 1:03:41you know, but well, success. Yeah, but.
- 1:03:44You know what? I.
- 1:03:45Started, you know, I was home brewing and stuff and one of my
- 1:03:48coworkers, he was a big craft beer guy and he was, we were out
- 1:03:52having beer and he's like, have you seen this app?
- 1:03:54And I'm like this, I think 2014 or something.
- 1:03:56I'm like, I've not heard of it. The good days of Untapped and he
- 1:03:59and he's like, yeah, I just use it to check in my beer and I'm
- 1:04:01like, that's pretty cool. Cool, and I just started.
- 1:04:03Using it as like a research tool.
- 1:04:04I like, I'll go somewhere and I'll be like, what beer do I
- 1:04:07want to pick? And then I'll look through the
- 1:04:08reviews and I'll be like, oh, this one's got good reviews.
- 1:04:10And I used it as like cataloging the beers that I like.
- 1:04:14And now I'm like, it's like, I'm not done the best job.
- 1:04:17I, I have a goal to get to 10,000 and that's, and then I'm
- 1:04:20done with it after that. You're going to at 10. 1000
- 1:04:22you're going to be. Done.
- 1:04:23I've been a little derelict in. The last month, I'm not going to
- 1:04:25lie, you've been a little what? Derelict I I have not.
- 1:04:28Checked in everything that I've had.
- 1:04:30Should we also talk about? Because when we had you on not
- 1:04:33long ago and we were talking about the brewery scene in
- 1:04:38Murfreesboro and we're going to get a picture first here, this
- 1:04:44is Jolene. From Regent 16, by the way.
- 1:04:46Yeah, we do plan to have her on later on.
- 1:04:47Get. The picture.
- 1:04:50Thank you. Thank you.
- 1:04:51Can you? Talk about.
- 1:04:52What the importance you think of this is for your business and
- 1:04:56the other breweries and any other breweries that may want to
- 1:04:59come into the Murfreesboro area because for sure this is a
- 1:05:01really successful event today. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:05:03So. You know, here, here is here is
- 1:05:07community at the end of the day, right, And so if people show up
- 1:05:10to this and they have a great time, they remember two or three
- 1:05:13of these breweries, maybe 4 or whatever they check them in on
- 1:05:16untapped whatever, right, but they have a great time.
- 1:05:20They're going to remember our brewery.
- 1:05:21They're going to remember the places that they, man, I really
- 1:05:24love that. Whatever from whomever, right?
- 1:05:27The, the Orange Dreamsicle from Common John, we got to make our
- 1:05:32way down to Manchester, you know what I mean?
- 1:05:34And, and so it's, it's, it's about community.
- 1:05:37And if, you know, if they show up and it's boring and it's, you
- 1:05:40know, it's kind of lame or ton of rules or whatever, right?
- 1:05:42They're not going to have as good a time.
- 1:05:44So I think that's number one, right?
- 1:05:46And then #2 it comes down to to hold on.
- 1:05:54Felt the sneeze coming. Sorry about that, I thought he
- 1:05:56heard the new TI. Came come on the radio.
- 1:05:58I was like no but. It comes down to brand
- 1:06:02recognition and name recognition and you know, as as much as we
- 1:06:07don't want to admit it, we've been open for four years.
- 1:06:09Y'all been open how long? A little over 5.
- 1:06:11Yeah. We don't want to be like, we got
- 1:06:12to get our name out there. Well, guess what?
- 1:06:14You still got to get your name out there, you know, and people
- 1:06:18got to associate. They had a great time because of
- 1:06:22Tom and John, because of Cedar Glade, because of whatever crazy
- 1:06:26gnome whatever, right. So, and and this is a place
- 1:06:29where that can happen. Yeah, it's totally been our
- 1:06:31beer. Experience too, like learning
- 1:06:33the breweries. We started with a few and I
- 1:06:35mean, and we and we, you know, got out to you guys and and
- 1:06:38like, holy shit, this thing is a lot bigger than we thought.
- 1:06:41Aside from the brewery around the corner that, you know, when
- 1:06:43we first started, now it's like, holy shit, this is like a huge
- 1:06:45yeah community. And we keep seeing the same
- 1:06:47faces and not just hurries, but like friends.
- 1:06:50We've seen some friends here today that we see other
- 1:06:52breweries too, and other beer fest, and it's like Beer's
- 1:06:55community it is. It's absolutely what you just
- 1:06:57said. Yeah, and it, you know.
- 1:06:59Is it about getting a little bit of a buzz?
- 1:07:01Yeah, absolutely. There is more about hanging out
- 1:07:04with your friends, having a good time, feeling good, reminiscing,
- 1:07:08whatever it is that you happen to be want to do at that time.
- 1:07:11You know when I'm here and I'm seeing you guys.
- 1:07:13Walk by and I see you walk by and I see you walk by and I'm
- 1:07:15like, this is like, you guys are celebrities to us.
- 1:07:18I saw Ozzy, the celebrities of the town.
- 1:07:20Seriously, though, I was like, God, that guy, you know that
- 1:07:22guy. Like, I it's a big deal.
- 1:07:23I appreciate that. I'm sure he's like me.
- 1:07:25I don't feel that way. Yeah.
- 1:07:27I feel like a a janitor. That's what I I'm like the chief
- 1:07:30janitor. That's how we don't see stuff
- 1:07:31all. We don't see the.
- 1:07:32He drove lots of toilets recently.
- 1:07:34Yeah. No, we don't see the database
- 1:07:36she was. Grayson, earlier you're talking.
- 1:07:38About crazy. No.
- 1:07:38Yeah, yeah. And I was.
- 1:07:39Just talking to her. Probably about an hour ago and I
- 1:07:41said, man, I said every, every interview we do, we've
- 1:07:45interviewed you guys and him and others.
- 1:07:48I said every interview that we do, I walk away and I go, there
- 1:07:52are a lot and I'm, I'm being very sincere.
- 1:07:54There are a lot of owners out there that have so much passion
- 1:07:59and so much intelligence of what they're doing and listen to the
- 1:08:04podcast, but also go to the breweries because they're
- 1:08:07putting their heart and soul into this 100%.
- 1:08:10Yeah, I, I mean, I sorry, they're talking to me right now
- 1:08:13on this headset, I mean, ignoring them and.
- 1:08:16The thing about it? Is it's such a, it's not only
- 1:08:18the community outside of the beer world, but the community
- 1:08:21inside of the beer world. And it is, I would say 99 out of
- 1:08:24100 people in the brewing industry are totally open.
- 1:08:27We talk, you know, I'll go to places and I'll be like, that's
- 1:08:30a killer. That's.
- 1:08:31A killer beer. I want to know how you make it,
- 1:08:34and I'll credit I can't tell you, Zul.
- 1:08:40Bentley is one of their head. Brewers, I think he's still
- 1:08:42there. The guys like Southern Gris,
- 1:08:44bearded Iris, everybody like I have asked questions and I'm
- 1:08:48like, you don't have to tell me, but I'm very interested in how
- 1:08:50you do this style. And never once if somebody said,
- 1:08:52Nope, I'm not going to tell you how.
- 1:08:54Absolutely. We're like here.
- 1:08:55Here's. Here's our mix of you know,
- 1:08:58there's always tweaks, you know we got different waters.
- 1:09:00The way our system works, it's, it's hard to mimic something,
- 1:09:03but you know, we've, we've had great success from other people
- 1:09:07helping us get to the point. So.
- 1:09:08So for me it's Ebony. And Audrey, they've helped us
- 1:09:11with some stuff. Hunt and Smith has helped us
- 1:09:13tremendously. One of those guys down there
- 1:09:16and, and and then Black Abbey, they've helped us a bunch as
- 1:09:19well. And I'd still owe you some cans.
- 1:09:21I think so. That's the way it is.
- 1:09:24I mean, you know, we, I've had to call Ozzy to get lids.
- 1:09:27Ozzy got lids for me. Yeah.
- 1:09:29Cans. It's it's always we, we did our
- 1:09:31a little special beer and I went up and bought some black cans
- 1:09:34from Marble. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:37It's just a. I mean it's.
- 1:09:38A brotherhood kind of. It is.
- 1:09:39It really is. I love that.
- 1:09:41Well, shout out to. You guys, gentlemen, I
- 1:09:43appreciate it. Thanks for stopping by the Yeah,
- 1:09:45I know you. Guys got a lot to do.
- 1:09:47We're just grateful that you guys stopped by for a few
- 1:09:49minutes. I mean, absolutely.
- 1:09:50You guys are legends. I mean, so glad to see you all.
- 1:09:53Cheers to Jonathan, his team for.
- 1:09:55Putting on one hell of a beer. Yes, this is absolutely
- 1:09:57fantastic. Love it.
- 1:09:58The setups great, perfect weather.
- 1:10:01I mean, I don't I don't think you could ask for anything any
- 1:10:02better. I don't know that we could have
- 1:10:03called in. Better weather.
- 1:10:04I Yeah, you know, I'm not really clear because I'll just tell you
- 1:10:09there have been some other events that we've tried to do
- 1:10:11and the weather is absolutely shit on us so.
- 1:10:14This is retribution and. I'm good with it.
- 1:10:16I doesn't want you to be great, John.
- 1:10:18That's what it is. The whole thing about our beer
- 1:10:20fest and us stopping it last year was a lot to do with
- 1:10:23weather because every year it was like, I've literally sit in
- 1:10:26my brewery looking at the tents ready to take off.
- 1:10:29Because we had, yeah, like 2 out of the first three years we had
- 1:10:33these crazy hurricane systems that came through.
- 1:10:35And I'm like, there's a lot of liability on the lines right
- 1:10:37here, you know, like, I got to have this beer fest.
- 1:10:39And you can't just reschedule it for why, exactly.
- 1:10:42Yeah. It's like, man, we, we, we.
- 1:10:43Carry a lot of, it's a lot of stress and things like that.
- 1:10:46And then last year we had the perfect weather than we've ever
- 1:10:49had for the brewery. You know, the beer fest is
- 1:10:51perfect. Well, cheers to you.
- 1:10:52Guys too I. Appreciate y'all.
- 1:10:54Thank you for having us here. Thank you guys.
- 1:10:55For sharing, for stopping by and saying hello.
- 1:11:02That's all I put that little thing.
- 1:11:03Right there. There we go, glad to be great.
- 1:11:06Great to see you. Thank you.
- 1:11:07Thank you. You, man.
- 1:11:10See you, LeBron. Good to see you.
- 1:11:11Brother. So is John getting on now?
- 1:11:17I get. Yeah, I guess.
- 1:11:18So let's keep it going. I've also got a DJ coming too,
- 1:11:22huh? I've got a DJ coming too.
- 1:11:25Yeah, yeah, he DJs at a brewery he's going to I'm.
- 1:11:27Going to have him introduce himself.
- 1:11:29Oh, that's awesome. I love it.
- 1:11:30He likes this chair. I do this.
- 1:11:32Yeah. I can eat what you like.
- 1:11:33Absolutely. Yeah.
- 1:11:34I'll. I'll get right to I'll.
- 1:11:37Yeah. Let me open that real quick.
- 1:11:40Oh, yeah? Well.
- 1:11:40They got Great Lakes. Here too.
- 1:11:42So let's let's let's enjoy this. Yeah, we won't.
- 1:11:49Be able to taste any of these. Great Great Lakes beers, if
- 1:11:52we're drinking 17% stouts, right and Great Lakes, one of them,
- 1:11:57Mitch is that the brewery, it's the one and done I think is what
- 1:12:01it's. Called it's like 17.
- 1:12:02And 1/2 or 18% nice. It's a rye barrel I was going to
- 1:12:05give CL Theresa for because he's a big rye guy, so I was going to
- 1:12:09make sure he got a little bit. Hell yeah.
- 1:12:13Who's this guy, by the way? I think he's responsible for the
- 1:12:16beer fest. Oh, Turn.
- 1:12:19His mic. Oh.
- 1:12:20His mic's already on hi hi. John.
- 1:12:24My name is. John, my name's John.
- 1:12:28This is awesome, John you. Have a little.
- 1:12:30Something to do with this beer fest that we're at today, don't
- 1:12:32you? Yeah.
- 1:12:34Helped put it on, I think, nine months.
- 1:12:35Just like the Common John's beer Fest.
- 1:12:37Yeah. One of those things where it's
- 1:12:40when you've done it a couple of times, Elise.
- 1:12:43This is why you're going to hate.
- 1:12:44The common John 1 to to yeah. Would that be the last one Yeah,
- 1:12:47yeah, yeah, no, but no, I mean the weather.
- 1:12:50I just I know not beat this. You couldn't have asked for
- 1:12:52better weather for a beer festival and the whole learn
- 1:12:55flannel's never saying it was just one of those things it's a
- 1:12:58little hot man for flannel. It's pretty hot for.
- 1:13:00Flannel, I'm committed to the. Bit so I love it.
- 1:13:02I wouldn't go. Say we've got there's.
- 1:13:07There's a there's a couple of you, there's there's John
- 1:13:09responsible for the festival today.
- 1:13:11We got a DJ in the house today too, I think.
- 1:13:13How you doing? Brother, I'm a record flipper.
- 1:13:17Record flipper. Record flipper.
- 1:13:19It's good to meet you. Shout out your name, man.
- 1:13:20DJ It's kind of like a doctor, OK?
- 1:13:23You're right. Do you have?
- 1:13:24Those initials, you're on your way there then.
- 1:13:26That's Year 3. OK, but I've been blessed by the
- 1:13:30give me a little bit more into the mic I've.
- 1:13:31Been blessed by the beer. Community embraced.
- 1:13:34Yeah. So I've done a lot of beer
- 1:13:35festivals, different breweries. It's my record collection, so I
- 1:13:39can't be mad about playing my own records for people.
- 1:13:42You can't eat the music from Frank Sinatra to the Wu Tang
- 1:13:44Clan. I mean, that's a very diverse.
- 1:13:47My dad was eclectic before it was.
- 1:13:49Ever a word? OK, 2 crazy hippies.
- 1:13:51Is what I grew. Up, Yeah, House of.
- 1:13:53So you know. Music.
- 1:13:55Family, beer. Why not?
- 1:13:57You know I didn't drink beer as a kid.
- 1:13:59Let me say that first. You did or did not I?
- 1:14:01Did no, that's you were 21. Right, good ones.
- 1:14:03Yeah, over 21. There we go, same here.
- 1:14:06There we go, responsible and so. You've done you've done beer
- 1:14:09festivals before. Yes, Cedar City Brewing out of.
- 1:14:11Lebanon, Lebanon, TN, that's who that's me.
- 1:14:15Yeah. And now it's a thing.
- 1:14:16As soon as I did my first beer festival for them call with
- 1:14:19Black, Abby walked up and said hey, when you play in my spot
- 1:14:22and I was like, I just. Like, no, you're doing it.
- 1:14:26You introduced. Me to the street, yeah.
- 1:14:29Then, I mean, like I said, I'll take half the money I make, buy
- 1:14:33new records and you put the other half I'm responsible yeah.
- 1:14:36You're reinvesting in the business, the.
- 1:14:37Other half and bought more beer but.
- 1:14:38I mean, we're not going to talk about.
- 1:14:39I ain't mad at you for it, no. No, not please.
- 1:14:41I'm. With all my money is beer.
- 1:14:44I don't like it. Yes.
- 1:14:45What do you? What do you prefer to spend?
- 1:14:47In terms of style of music, like, what's your preference?
- 1:14:49That's the thing, man. Everybody.
- 1:14:51Says what they like about me is when you go places you normally
- 1:14:54hear 1 channel honky tonk. When you're downtown squirmal
- 1:14:57whore you hear the Symphony. There's not a lot of times that
- 1:14:59you hear Frank Sinatra and the Wu Tang Clan.
- 1:15:04I mean, Jimmy Buffett, Hank Williams, That's all spectrums,
- 1:15:07dude. Yeah, people.
- 1:15:07Don't mixture well. I do 1.
- 1:15:09Thing I teach my kids we don't say fat, ugly, rich, poor music,
- 1:15:15country music, rock music the last word you say is music those
- 1:15:19words we put in front it's just for us to communicate when.
- 1:15:23You're doing those different. Genres.
- 1:15:25After song after song is there? Is there a a pattern?
- 1:15:29A. Pattern like this one lends
- 1:15:30itself to this one. Right afterwards they flow
- 1:15:32together. You don't.
- 1:15:33Think Charley Pride can go right after raging his machine?
- 1:15:37Yeah, you got to find those songs and.
- 1:15:41People don't realize that they're like.
- 1:15:42The best compliments you get is when somebody walks up and goes,
- 1:15:44son, I don't know half the stuff you played tonight, but I love
- 1:15:48it. Yeah.
- 1:15:49Because it's just, you know, everybody's like it.
- 1:15:51I don't know AI stuff. They took this song and now it's
- 1:15:55a soul song. I can't believe it worked.
- 1:15:57It's just music. Yeah, and that's why it worked.
- 1:16:00A guitar. You've never seen a white guitar
- 1:16:02or a black guitar. It's just a guitar.
- 1:16:04It's hard. And we have to identify with so
- 1:16:06much stuff. Just because I listen to Hank
- 1:16:09Williams Junior doesn't mean I have to wear Cowboy Goose.
- 1:16:11Just because I listen to Rage don't mean I got to rock out.
- 1:16:14Because I listen to rap don't mean I got to thug it out.
- 1:16:16It's just music. You don't have to identify with
- 1:16:19it. Just listen.
- 1:16:20And music doesn't get old. Yeah, 50s.
- 1:16:23No, I can take a song from the 50s and play it right now.
- 1:16:25It will be a top ten hit. But guess what?
- 1:16:27Oh, that's oh, no, it's not old, man.
- 1:16:29It's just you remember it from that time like the.
- 1:16:33Glory year is high school most. People don't grow musically
- 1:16:36after high school and college, but that was their peak time.
- 1:16:39But there's young artist Leon Bridges.
- 1:16:42He sounds like he was from back in the day.
- 1:16:43But guess what? It's 2026, so music doesn't get
- 1:16:47old, we get old. That's the way we have to
- 1:16:50identify. Music doesn't get old, we.
- 1:16:52Get old. Yeah, man.
- 1:16:53Great statement, Mike. That's a.
- 1:16:56Car right there you got to. Go it out right now man.
- 1:16:59One of the things I wanted to. Say when I grabbed this.
- 1:17:01Microphone is being from a small town of Lebanon when they first
- 1:17:05started to bring up beer festival.
- 1:17:07Oh. Uncharted.
- 1:17:08Waters We don't even know how to do this.
- 1:17:11It's just going to be a bunch of drunk people.
- 1:17:14There's guy selling art. I just bought a Janis Joplin
- 1:17:17picture for my daughter. Yeah.
- 1:17:20There's book right here, right? There's somebody, right, selling
- 1:17:23candles with charity community. So, like, yes, don't be scared.
- 1:17:29And how many other people around town are bringing these people
- 1:17:32together, right? The brewery, Cedar Glade is
- 1:17:35bringing people together in a community.
- 1:17:37White, black, green, purple, old, young.
- 1:17:39Yeah. I mean, so don't be afraid of
- 1:17:41it. Yes, craft beer bring crafty
- 1:17:44people. You know how much networking
- 1:17:46I've done? I do exterior work, but as a
- 1:17:50construction, you know how many jobs I've gotten from these beer
- 1:17:53festivals? Hey, what do you do?
- 1:17:54I was like, I'm not just a DJI own an exterior company.
- 1:17:57Well, man, you know what I need some new gutters.
- 1:17:59Well, and then dude, that's my info, right, right.
- 1:18:02So like, yes, Oh, it's a bunch of young people drinking beers
- 1:18:05all day. No, it's a bunch of crafty
- 1:18:07people doing crafty things and you could be a welder, you know,
- 1:18:12you can be a mechanic, you can be a DJ.
- 1:18:14It's crafty people being crafty together while sipping on some
- 1:18:18good sun and doing a podcast. Well, new homies bitching mint
- 1:18:24sounds. Like a beer.
- 1:18:25Country band. Baby.
- 1:18:29To your point. The guy right here knows all
- 1:18:31about it because he put all this together with the different and
- 1:18:34we think with the different vendors.
- 1:18:35No doubt there's a guy down there cutting.
- 1:18:39Don't forget the hot tub. I'm still trying to figure it
- 1:18:42out, but we're keeping it. Clean.
- 1:18:44It's pulled by Tesla, so we know we care about the environment.
- 1:18:47They turn the heat off on. That thing, let's make it a
- 1:18:49little swimming pool. Is the hot tub open right now?
- 1:18:51Yeah, it's open right now. I'm not going to.
- 1:18:56Be the first one right now. We'll go talk to pay.
- 1:19:00That was her name. Okay, I think.
- 1:19:02I don't know how I found that out.
- 1:19:03Yeah. You didn't know?
- 1:19:04Yeah. Well, we're saying something.
- 1:19:06Early he goes the. Porter potties get the line
- 1:19:08start forming might. Get a.
- 1:19:15Lot I look like a mosh. Pit or something?
- 1:19:20I'm down, I'm down. I'll go if you go no.
- 1:19:24Doubt you? Raised a good point though,
- 1:19:25like. The, the diversity of styles of
- 1:19:28like art that's out here, right? You know, it's like I there's,
- 1:19:31there's few best beer festivals that I've been to that are just
- 1:19:34beer, right? And then there's, there's other
- 1:19:37just festivals that happen to have beer, right?
- 1:19:40And it happens to have books and it happens to have art.
- 1:19:43I mean, Ozzy from, you know, formerly Mayday, I mean like
- 1:19:46he's doing caricature drawings over there.
- 1:19:48It's like you don't get that at A at a regular beer fest.
- 1:19:51And then we've got books. Right next.
- 1:19:52Door with read to succeed, which is like, you know financially
- 1:19:56putting on a lot of this beer festival so it's cool to see all
- 1:19:59the different like styles of art that are out here today and DJ.
- 1:20:04Record spinning. I'm sorry, Clipper and my record
- 1:20:07slipper am I Liberace. I can't do any of that.
- 1:20:11So shout out to you, but it's awesome man, and and I
- 1:20:14appreciate you. One of the coolest experiences.
- 1:20:16I. Had we did a beer, mini beer
- 1:20:18festival, BMW, okay. And so BMW is one of the most
- 1:20:21established old companies I would think.
- 1:20:25When we did that. They could not believe like a
- 1:20:29bunch of beer guys put on such and they said that it was one of
- 1:20:33the best ones they had ever had. I mean, I'm like, I'm just
- 1:20:36honored to be thin and next to BMW and they're like, no, this
- 1:20:40is one of the best events that we've ever had.
- 1:20:42Like, oh. Yeah, a couple beer drinkers.
- 1:20:44From Old Hick town, Lebanon, hey.
- 1:20:47And I mean, Lebanon's on the map now, hey?
- 1:20:49Don't tell nobody. Man, I won't tell a little quiet
- 1:20:51city. I like the Cedar City hat too.
- 1:20:53I. Like Cedar?
- 1:20:54Glade too though bro. Hey, hey, got to represent.
- 1:20:56It you know, that's another thing like beer.
- 1:20:58Oh, I can't. I don't know why you drink
- 1:21:00IPA's. I'm like, dude, don't drink
- 1:21:03them. You don't have to.
- 1:21:04You don't have to drink. You know what?
- 1:21:09I'm saying, I mean, if you don't like it, you don't have to be.
- 1:21:11Entire IPA. That's just not for you,
- 1:21:13brother. Go get you a lager.
- 1:21:15Go get you a wee. Squeeze the lemons, squeeze the
- 1:21:17orange, squeeze the lime. I drink them all.
- 1:21:20But hey, a lot of other beer styles out there.
- 1:21:23We can pick and choose. That's right, drink beer.
- 1:21:26That's a good scrap beer. Grain, no doubt.
- 1:21:28That's right. We.
- 1:21:29If we could pull, we got about probably 15 bottles of shit in
- 1:21:33our coolers that would cover the.
- 1:21:35Cover this table. Sounds like a problem.
- 1:21:39To have right there. And this and it's not a bad
- 1:21:41problem. That's for sure.
- 1:21:42Happy to share. That's awesome brother.
- 1:21:45I appreciate you stopping by brother.
- 1:21:46This is the first podcast. I've ever done your podcast
- 1:21:49version. Do you come back anytime?
- 1:21:51Go. Back anytime Hey love piece of
- 1:21:53hair grease. We appreciate it though.
- 1:21:56Cheers. Dude, keep flipping right goods
- 1:21:57man. Keep flipping them.
- 1:21:58Take care. Flip the headphones, those are
- 1:22:02bad. There we go.
- 1:22:05John. Grit.
- 1:22:07Who kind? Of put the beer festival.
- 1:22:08On a little bit, just kind of just kind of yeah.
- 1:22:12How many months have you been working on this?
- 1:22:14Nine, nine months, nine months? Does it cost you any stress?
- 1:22:19July. July, Yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:21And we? Were playing this during the.
- 1:22:23Common John planning also so that was also a lot of mixture,
- 1:22:27a lot of beer fest top a lot of collaboration Oh oh the.
- 1:22:31Last beer. Fest on Earth was going on
- 1:22:33around that time. Yeah.
- 1:22:34I thought you were hinting at another common John beer
- 1:22:36festival. I was like, wait, what?
- 1:22:38When you and I know it's. Still up in the air.
- 1:22:40I think it is the the last when you got the call from this one,
- 1:22:43we like he thought he was. Over it, Scott.
- 1:22:47He did not even have to do it anymore.
- 1:22:49God damn it. Yeah.
- 1:22:50They asked me. I was like, oh, OK, no, no.
- 1:22:52Was out. But, I mean, I've always
- 1:22:55believed that Murfreesboro has a market for craft beer, and it's
- 1:22:58just not there yet. Doing stuff like this.
- 1:23:00Yeah. I mean, it just gets people
- 1:23:02aware of what craft beer can be and having a gear on premise
- 1:23:07helps everyone in the city. So hey, so we pulled a random, a
- 1:23:10random guy off the street here looks like.
- 1:23:13What do you what do you think about the beer fest so far, Sir
- 1:23:16Guy, I like beer. What's your name?
- 1:23:19Where are you from, Random? Guy, random guy, I don't know.
- 1:23:22It's it's. It's been good.
- 1:23:23I mean. You can ask for better weather
- 1:23:24today. It's it's phenomenal.
- 1:23:26So what what are the ones you hit?
- 1:23:28You hit? I know you hit the home Brewers.
- 1:23:29Yes, here's a here's a guy that's, you know, sometimes.
- 1:23:34You just give the microphone. To the wrong guy.
- 1:23:35Here's the guy that's. Wearing a shirt.
- 1:23:37That's Stoke House and his last name is Stokes.
- 1:23:39It's my house, yeah. Let me go get Chad real quick.
- 1:23:43You can say that to his face, but it.
- 1:23:46It's been great, huh? It's been fucking great.
- 1:23:48It's been phenomenal. It's a great spot.
- 1:23:50Great. It's Dead End Road.
- 1:23:51You can't, can't beat it. It's a nice thing.
- 1:23:54Michael, what's been the top? It's top 2 that's tough.
- 1:23:57I mean comma. John's always good.
- 1:23:59They've had some, I was surprised they brought a bunch
- 1:24:01of sours today. 3 sours on top. They're all good, they're all
- 1:24:05amazing. Yeah, the homebrew.
- 1:24:09Festival. Beer.
- 1:24:10Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:24:10Festival beer. LeBron spoke to that a few
- 1:24:12minutes ago. Yeah, He's like their festival
- 1:24:13beer. Did you get all three of them?
- 1:24:15Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Got the Unicorn.
- 1:24:16I keep calling it Unicorn farts. Another, I think the home Brewer
- 1:24:21section's been. Phenomenal, right?
- 1:24:23I mean, that's just not something you get everywhere.
- 1:24:25And it's I'm trying stuff you're not you're not going to get
- 1:24:27anywhere else. Yeah.
- 1:24:28And they could be a little more creative sometimes too.
- 1:24:30And they some were more. They were badass and and
- 1:24:33Jonathan when you. Were.
- 1:24:34Coordinating this and you're reaching out to like home
- 1:24:37Brewers. How important has that been?
- 1:24:39Oh yeah, I mean, it's great and. The fact that they're, they're
- 1:24:42used to doing the beer fest and they're, they're used to the
- 1:24:45the, the swing of things. It definitely helps to have some
- 1:24:48knowledge of just what it takes to be at a beer fest, and
- 1:24:52they're bring they're. Bringing their best stuff.
- 1:24:54Every year, so that's also really cool to see because I get
- 1:24:57a. Chance to, you know to.
- 1:24:58To to share and express it, you know, not just share it with
- 1:25:01friends. We all and then we all get to
- 1:25:03realize how good it is because we get to try it.
- 1:25:07Yeah. The, the avocado one.
- 1:25:08I call them the avocado one. I cannot get used to saying it
- 1:25:12by the quiet. Yeah, I'm telling everyone
- 1:25:14they're going to be the next brewery in Tennessee.
- 1:25:16Like their marketing's on point. Their beer is amazing, but they
- 1:25:20have a market avocado beer, Cleveland, TN, right above
- 1:25:24Chattanooga. And I asked them because I go,
- 1:25:27you know, the avocado is in the name.
- 1:25:28I go, have you made beer with avocados?
- 1:25:30Absolutely. Because they made beer with
- 1:25:33avocado in it. And it when they said it gives
- 1:25:35it a you don't get the avocado flavor.
- 1:25:36You get the kind of the creaminess of an avocado, which
- 1:25:39would be do a cream ale avocado. Yeah, avocado cream ale.
- 1:25:43Bad ass. What are the food vendors?
- 1:25:46You got because I've not been down there yet, so we have.
- 1:25:49A perogy truck. Tennessee Meats.
- 1:25:52So yeah, TM Miko is here and they have a food truck.
- 1:25:57Just a bunch of different meats that you can order.
- 1:26:00We have a hot truck or a hot dog food stands, and we have a
- 1:26:04Vietnamese food truck as well. No SO.
- 1:26:09And then we also have a. Spaghetti Monster at the
- 1:26:11breweries. And apparently clothing is
- 1:26:13optional. What?
- 1:26:15Yeti, look behind you. Interesting.
- 1:26:18I didn't bring her. We know.
- 1:26:22Just saying. Anyway, that's part of The Time
- 1:26:25Machine. Yeah, that's the hot tub.
- 1:26:27That's. Oh, OK, We actually did.
- 1:26:31We actually did it like we haven't made our way all the way
- 1:26:33down that way. That's right.
- 1:26:34We got to get down. That way we.
- 1:26:36Started out at the home burger section.
- 1:26:37I think I made it to tenfold. Ebony and Ivory.
- 1:26:43You got further nights. You got further nights, yeah.
- 1:26:45Like the second? Tent and then.
- 1:26:47There's like, I mean, I think Tom and John's here today
- 1:26:50somewhere. They're around here.
- 1:26:52So Spirits is here. Marble Fox is here.
- 1:26:55What was the total number of breweries?
- 1:26:56That actually we have 30. Exactly.
- 1:26:59Yeah, 30 there's like the commercial breweries, there's 8
- 1:27:03home Brewers that are whole brew sections.
- 1:27:06Was it when you were? I know you're just part of the
- 1:27:10process, but you're a lot of it, and you're reaching out to a lot
- 1:27:13of these folks. I mean, were you surprised how
- 1:27:15many people signed up for this? You want my humble answer?
- 1:27:22No, no, I mean these are all we're all friends.
- 1:27:25We all know each other. We're we see each other on
- 1:27:27weekends and it's just another weekend.
- 1:27:28We we get to hang out together and pour beers.
- 1:27:31Do you find people coming to you and saying, hey, do you have a
- 1:27:33spot open or a couple, couple of times?
- 1:27:35But love it's just I mean people have this beer festival.
- 1:27:38We. Want to be a part of it?
- 1:27:38Yeah. Absolutely.
- 1:27:39And they're like, hell yeah, yeah.
- 1:27:41So that's the people you want to be?
- 1:27:42Yeah. Beer Fest is people that are
- 1:27:44excited for their beer and for their products and have the
- 1:27:46opportunity to get in front of people because like Smack Dab,
- 1:27:49they don't have their tap room open, but they're new to the.
- 1:27:52Murfreesboro. Market.
- 1:27:53So they're in the featured tent because, I mean, this is their
- 1:27:56audition basically for Murfreesboro, Yeah.
- 1:27:58Well, that kind of. That kind of coincides with what
- 1:28:00you're saying, the humble answer, because it's the beer
- 1:28:03community. I mean, we've talked about it so
- 1:28:06many times. It's strong here in in the
- 1:28:08national Murfreesboro area. So many good people and.
- 1:28:12Just you make those friendships over time and it's just cool to
- 1:28:15see how it just blossoms to we're in Murfreesboro, TN at a
- 1:28:18beer festival. Like it's cool.
- 1:28:20To be at a beer. Festival in Murfreesboro.
- 1:28:23It really is. Yeah, like.
- 1:28:24I think the last one I. Went to in Murfreesboro was
- 1:28:26Borough Bourbon and Bruce shout out Panther Creek back when, you
- 1:28:30know, back when those guys were open.
- 1:28:33And then, you know, I know Mayday has a couple had a couple
- 1:28:36of like events where they're hosting things and stuff like
- 1:28:38that. But in Murfreesboro, I don't
- 1:28:40recall, keep me honest, but I don't recall a beer festival in
- 1:28:45Murfreesboro with like multiple commercial breweries here and
- 1:28:48homebrewers like I don't know if it's happened before.
- 1:28:50Yeah. And one thing to add on that,
- 1:28:52and that's the one thing that I told the team at Cedar Glade
- 1:28:54that my big thing, I don't want people that say that they're
- 1:28:58from a distributor on for serving beer.
- 1:29:03People that are here, the 30 breweries, they're from the
- 1:29:06brewery, dude, that's a good point.
- 1:29:08Everybody here works with the. So when you go up to get a beer,
- 1:29:12there's someone knowledgeable of the brewery there instead of
- 1:29:15saying, oh, I don't know, I'm not from the brewery.
- 1:29:17Those are my favorite. Absolutely.
- 1:29:19My favorite? Cuz again, it's still familiar
- 1:29:21faces, but if you want to talk, ask a question about the beer.
- 1:29:24I know. Right.
- 1:29:24Absolutely. I've been to beer.
- 1:29:26Festivals where they're just like, I don't know, it's what's
- 1:29:28in Cannes. Yeah.
- 1:29:29And like, they have volunteers that are pouring for the event.
- 1:29:32Yeah. And it's OK to have some, but
- 1:29:35I've been to festivals where like, it's just people ship
- 1:29:38their beers and that's it. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 1:29:40I mean. That really is a good point that
- 1:29:42a lot of the breweries that have come here, they brought their A
- 1:29:45game, yeah. 100% and it's cool and.
- 1:29:49It's. Called cabin fever for a reason.
- 1:29:51Yeah, kind. Of thawing out a.
- 1:29:53Little bit, you know, it's get the hell out of that house.
- 1:29:56We talked about that earlier, isn't?
- 1:29:57This like a perfect event that here we have.
- 1:30:00Stokes is finding a reason to leave home.
- 1:30:02Sorry, I interrupt. Yeah.
- 1:30:03Yeah, I'm from Gallatin. I came all way from.
- 1:30:04Gallatin I may or may not have won free tickets, but it's okay
- 1:30:08you to be here. It's got to be tough.
- 1:30:11In in. February, March in Tennessee,
- 1:30:14Like, you don't know what the weather's going to be.
- 1:30:16Yeah, this weather sucks, though.
- 1:30:17Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:30:18This weather's so awful. But it's like me and Scott talk,
- 1:30:20you know, GABF is going outdoors this year, like, And that is
- 1:30:23Denver in October. Like what?
- 1:30:25There's no talent. That's where you're going to
- 1:30:27notice. They asked me.
- 1:30:28They're like, what's your thoughts about doing the beer
- 1:30:30fest in February? I'm like outside, I mean, you
- 1:30:36want my honest opinions? I have no idea.
- 1:30:38Like it could be really bad. It could be, but but the thought
- 1:30:42of like winter warmer and and yes, I mean that the whole
- 1:30:46thought behind this is like everyone's been in their houses
- 1:30:48all winter long. We just went through the ice
- 1:30:50storm. This was going to be the one
- 1:30:52event that got everyone out and ready for the Springs house.
- 1:30:56Absolutely. And there and, and, and East
- 1:30:58Nashville beer festives are really good.
- 1:30:59When it's April, that's usually like, kind of, you know, the
- 1:31:01weather's really kind of turning at that point.
- 1:31:03Really fucking absolutely. Get all you want.
- 1:31:05Get all you I got. Isn't it so good?
- 1:31:10Actually. Responsible.
- 1:31:11For absolutely. I mean, you can just in case
- 1:31:15there's AI mean Grant page dedicated.
- 1:31:16He's talking about, I mean you like Edmund Fitzgerald's we
- 1:31:21bought, we bought Great Lakes at a big fest.
- 1:31:24Is this Great Lakes? We have Great Lakes in
- 1:31:26Tennessee. At a beer fest.
- 1:31:27I didn't know they were in. I wish. 10 is Great Lakes.
- 1:31:29Yeah. Wait, is this the first time
- 1:31:30Great Lakes has been opened in Murfreesboro?
- 1:31:32Yeah. Yeah, probably so.
- 1:31:36Yeah, right. Without some contraband.
- 1:31:38But yes, this is legally. This is the first legally I
- 1:31:41don't know. Somehow.
- 1:31:42Great Lakes got. Tennessee, I don't know.
- 1:31:44I don't know how that happened. Nobody here advocated.
- 1:31:48I've never even heard of them before.
- 1:31:49Scott and Steve they brought. So they've got the the Dormunder
- 1:31:53Gold Logger? Is that what it's called?
- 1:31:55Yep, Dormunder Gold Logger. They've got the Amber Elliot
- 1:31:58Ness Elliot Nest. They've got the Fitzgerald, the
- 1:32:02Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. And then after what's the name
- 1:32:05of the what? The Midwest Hazy.
- 1:32:08Hazy. They got the hazy because all
- 1:32:09have been have been bangers. Yeah.
- 1:32:11Every single one of them. You can get it in a store near
- 1:32:14you. Jonathan, we appreciate you,
