Latest / The Mark Simone Show / Hour 2: Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries speaks out.
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: He knows his way around all this.
- 0:03Speaker 2: It's the Mark Simone Show on seven tenor.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Well it's Friday. Normally that's great, you're looking forward to
- 0:11Speaker 3: a wonderful weekend. But this weekend you'll uh, well, Saturday,
- 0:16Speaker 3: it's going to be bitterly cold. It will be a
- 0:18Speaker 3: real feel of like minus five or something all day Saturday,
- 0:21Speaker 3: so you're not going to really want to be out
- 0:23Speaker 3: much on Saturday. And then Sunday you got the storm,
- 0:26Speaker 3: the snow all day long. It will start overnight Saturday,
- 0:31Speaker 3: about two, three, four in the morning, it'll start snowing.
- 0:34Speaker 3: It'll snow all day Sunday. It won't stop, it'll pile up.
- 0:39Speaker 3: It'll snow overnight Sunday night. It'll stop somewhere Monday morning,
- 0:43Speaker 3: maybe come back a little here and there in the afternoon,
- 0:45Speaker 3: and then that'll be it. But most likely forecast six
- 0:50Speaker 3: to eight inches. The different various models show a range
- 0:53Speaker 3: of four to twelve inches, but figure six to eight inches.
- 0:56Speaker 3: That's a lot of snow. If you're in the suburb,
- 1:00Speaker 3: it's going to disrupt everything for a while. Also, unlike
- 1:04Speaker 3: other snowstorms, it's going to be freezing cold for the
- 1:08Speaker 3: next few days. It'll be like in the twenties, real
- 1:11Speaker 3: Field and the teens. So after the snow is done
- 1:14Speaker 3: on Monday, for the next few days it'll be so
- 1:17Speaker 3: cold that nothing will melt. You won't be able to
- 1:19Speaker 3: melt that snow, you won't be able to shovel it.
- 1:22Speaker 3: You know, if you're in the city, it doesn't really
- 1:25Speaker 3: bother us because it doesn't really even stick on the ground.
- 1:28Speaker 3: These sidewalks are so warm, people a million people walking
- 1:31Speaker 3: all over them. The subway underneath heats them. So the
- 1:35Speaker 3: city is fine, although you'll have some snow banks here
- 1:37Speaker 3: in there. But when you're in the suburbs, it's a
- 1:40Speaker 3: mess because the mall, the strip, mall, the supermarket, they'll shuffle,
- 1:46Speaker 3: they'll shovel the parking lot, but you'll lose half the
- 1:49Speaker 3: parking spaces where they pile up the snow and the
- 1:51Speaker 3: snow banks and all of that will stay for days
- 1:54Speaker 3: and days and days. Looks like in New York City,
- 1:57Speaker 3: at least they'll be school on Monday. Now may go remote,
- 2:02Speaker 3: and this is not fair to kids. It's very important
- 2:05Speaker 3: to have snow days where school is just canceled. You know,
- 2:08Speaker 3: when we were a kid, it was a snow day.
- 2:10Speaker 3: He had the day off, you'd watch game shows, you'd
- 2:13Speaker 3: goof off. But now if there is a snow day,
- 2:17Speaker 3: it'll just switch to remote learning. And imagine a lot
- 2:21Speaker 3: of suburban schools will do that. Not everybody's made the
- 2:24Speaker 3: decision yet, but we'll keep you up to date here
- 2:28Speaker 3: on the storm. This will be the first major test
- 2:31Speaker 3: of mom Donnie and his management skills. Although the emergency
- 2:35Speaker 3: team that does all this stuff is still there from
- 2:37Speaker 3: the Adams administration, so it's the same team. The director
- 2:41Speaker 3: of Emergency Management, he's a good guy. He'll be able
- 2:43Speaker 3: to handle this. He's resigned, but he gave two weeks notice,
- 2:47Speaker 3: so he's still there through this storm. Now, when he leaves,
- 2:51Speaker 3: the good news is his deputy takes over, who he says,
- 2:54Speaker 3: is pretty good. She's been there for a long long time,
- 2:56Speaker 3: so it should be should be okay. Greenland. Speaking of snow,
- 3:02Speaker 3: it looks like the deal is done, and the deal
- 3:06Speaker 3: is basically, we lease Greenland and control it for decades
- 3:11Speaker 3: and decades and decades, sometimes Trump hinting it could be forever.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Now that's different from actually buying it and owning it.
- 3:21Speaker 3: But some people are pointing out this is actually better.
- 3:23Speaker 3: We don't want to buy it and own it and
- 3:25Speaker 3: make it part of the US. We want to just
- 3:26Speaker 3: lease it and have control. If we buy it make
- 3:29Speaker 3: it part of the US, then you're going to have
- 3:32Speaker 3: to give them two senators. You're going to have to
- 3:33Speaker 3: give them Congressmen. You're going to have to pay the
- 3:35Speaker 3: welfare for most of the people on Greenland. And it's
- 3:40Speaker 3: only about fifty seven thousand people, but they're on some
- 3:42Speaker 3: kind of welfare. Hey. Now, once again, the idea of
- 3:45Speaker 3: buying Greenland or owning Greenland, or making part of the US,
- 3:48Speaker 3: that is not a Trump policy. That's been the official
- 3:52Speaker 3: policy of the United States for one hundred and fifty years.
- 3:58Speaker 3: One hundred and fifty years. Lots of residents have tried
- 4:00Speaker 3: to get Greenland. The last most serious attempt was Harry Truman,
- 4:05Speaker 3: who offered I think it was a billion dollars, which
- 4:07Speaker 3: back then nineteen forty nine or whatever was a staggering
- 4:11Speaker 3: amount of money. But it's always been US policy to
- 4:15Speaker 3: get Greenland. This is not a Trump policy. But it
- 4:18Speaker 3: was just fine for all these years trying to get Greenland.
- 4:21Speaker 3: But as soon as it was Trump, this is terrible.
- 4:23Speaker 3: All of a sudden everybody went crazy. Same thing with Ice,
- 4:27Speaker 3: the idea of ice going into cities and snatching up
- 4:30Speaker 3: illegals off the streets. That was Barack Obama. He did
- 4:34Speaker 3: it all the time, and you know he put in
- 4:36Speaker 3: charge of it a guy named Tom Holman. And you know,
- 4:39Speaker 3: before Obama left office, he gave Tom Holman the Distinguished
- 4:43Speaker 3: Service Award from the federal government for what he did.
- 4:46Speaker 3: So it goes on all the time. It's just only
- 4:49Speaker 3: bad when Trump does it. It was a great moment
- 4:52Speaker 3: on CNN with Ben Ferguson and the host I think
- 4:57Speaker 3: was Abbey Phillips is screaming at Ben Ferguson the idea
- 5:00Speaker 3: of ice going into what Ice is doing. He's never
- 5:03Speaker 3: been good. It's always been controversial. And Ben Ferguson said,
- 5:07Speaker 3: that's not true. It was considered great under Obama. In fact,
- 5:09Speaker 3: you guys at CNN did ride alongs. That's true. The
- 5:13Speaker 3: video has emerged back when Obama was doing the same
- 5:16Speaker 3: exact thing. CNN covered it and showed how brilliant this was,
- 5:20Speaker 3: how great this was. Look at it when Obama is
- 5:22Speaker 3: getting done. They did ride along videos. Look at how
- 5:25Speaker 3: they're rounding up. This is great. But as soon as
- 5:27Speaker 3: it's Trump. It's a disaster. It's awful. Hey, the crazy
- 5:32Speaker 3: protesters who broke into that church, stopped the service, stop
- 5:37Speaker 3: the ceremony. The two ringleaders have been arrested. Now they're
- 5:42Speaker 3: going to probably get Don Lemon at some point. It
- 5:44Speaker 3: went before some left wing judge who tossed it out
- 5:47Speaker 3: said you can't arrest Don Lemon for this. But that's
- 5:49Speaker 3: just some crazy left wing judge. They'll appeal the whole thing.
- 5:54Speaker 3: The Attorney General herself, Pam Bondi, has flown two Minnesota
- 5:57Speaker 3: to get this thing going.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Religious liberty is under siege in our country right now,
- 6:02Speaker 4: and we are not going anywhere until those people who
- 6:07Speaker 4: did those acts are held accountable.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Yeah. No, the yelling about freedom of speech, freedom to protest,
- 6:14Speaker 3: First Amendment, it's all great, but that means you can
- 6:17Speaker 3: stand outside and yell. You cannot enter the church. It's
- 6:20Speaker 3: actually says in the law you cannot go into a
- 6:23Speaker 3: house of worship and do anything to intimidate or interfere
- 6:26Speaker 3: with a church service. It's illegal. It's a crime. So
- 6:30Speaker 3: they've arrested the two ringleaders, and here's Paul Murrow, the
- 6:34Speaker 3: security expert.
- 6:35Speaker 5: It is going to be very very little that they
- 6:37Speaker 5: can do in defense of this because it's on filming.
- 6:39Speaker 5: But for once, they didn't cover their faces. Now here
- 6:42Speaker 5: is the thing that's going to come out of this.
- 6:44Speaker 5: You have her under her arrest. Now you're going to
- 6:45Speaker 5: get the communications, and this is where it starts. Despiteer,
- 6:48Speaker 5: whereabout you start to see who's talking to who, who
- 6:51Speaker 5: showed up in regard including Don Lemon. How much did
- 6:55Speaker 5: they all know going in? That imports things like conspiracy charges,
- 6:59Speaker 5: which can be quite quite heavy.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's where they're going to start. Now they've
- 7:04Speaker 3: got the two ring leaders, they'll start to get everybody
- 7:06Speaker 3: else under arrest.
- 7:07Speaker 5: Not only did that come out in the video and
- 7:10Speaker 5: that they said something like that in the church, but
- 7:12Speaker 5: then after the fact Lemon talks about exactly that, putting
- 7:16Speaker 5: a racial overtone in the whole thing, which potentially could
- 7:19Speaker 5: import a hate crime.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Nah, that's interesting. Lemon could be charged also with hate crime.
- 7:24Speaker 5: There is a job career protester, and it has developed
- 7:28Speaker 5: over the last let's say a dozen years or so
- 7:30Speaker 5: into a very lucrative industry, and you have people who
- 7:34Speaker 5: do this for a living, make a ton of money.
- 7:37Speaker 5: They weaponize people who don't know any better to use
- 7:40Speaker 5: the Leninist term, useful idiots. They're looking for any cause
- 7:43Speaker 5: in the world. They get them out of the campuses
- 7:45Speaker 5: pretty good.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Hey, the Clintons are in tremendous legal jeopardy. They have
- 7:50Speaker 3: defied a congressional subpoena. They have refused to testify, and
- 7:56Speaker 3: when you do that, you go to prison. That's what
- 7:58Speaker 3: happened to Steve Bannon, That's what happened to Peter Navarro.
- 8:00Speaker 3: They refused to testify when they got the subpoena in
- 8:03Speaker 3: front of Congress, they went to prison. So you could
- 8:07Speaker 3: actually send the Clintons to prison. They've actually done exactly
- 8:11Speaker 3: what Steve Bannon did, exactly what Navarro did. Here's crazy goofy,
- 8:17Speaker 3: Hakim Jeffries.
- 8:18Speaker 1: If COMA tries to bring this resolution, he wants to
- 8:23Speaker 1: lock Hillary Clinton up, consistent with what Donald Trump's been
- 8:27Speaker 1: saying now for ten years. Lock her up, as opposed
- 8:32Speaker 1: to actually focusing on the things that matter for the
- 8:34Speaker 1: American people, then we'll deal with it appropriately.
- 8:38Speaker 3: That's when you know they're in trouble instead of focusing
- 8:41Speaker 3: on what's important for the American people. When they put
- 8:44Speaker 3: Trump on trial in four places, did Hakim Jeffrey say, hey,
- 8:47Speaker 3: focus on what's important for the American people. No, Now,
- 8:50Speaker 3: the only argument protecting the Clintons is, well, Steve Bannon,
- 8:54Speaker 3: this is an ex president. It's different if it's an
- 8:56Speaker 3: ex president. Well not really. You put the arrested Donald
- 9:01Speaker 3: Trump in four different places five thousand times. So apparently
- 9:05Speaker 3: according to the Merrick Garland Joe Biden standard, it's not
- 9:08Speaker 3: different when it's the next president. Hey, you know who died.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I can't believe it. Uncle Floyd. You remember Uncle Floyd.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Now there'd be plenty of people don't know what I'm
- 9:17Speaker 3: talking about, but plenty of people who do. Uncle Floyd
- 9:20Speaker 3: wasn't that old. He was seventy four. Floyd Vivino course
- 9:23Speaker 3: hosted that children's TV show for years. He also was
- 9:27Speaker 3: a great comedian and a great musician pianist. Uncle Floyd
- 9:32Speaker 3: gone at the age of seventy four. This is back
- 9:35Speaker 3: in the way, way way in the past, like a
- 9:39Speaker 3: way back into the eighties when he has on Uah Chef.
- 9:43Speaker 3: You remember that there was regular TV and there was
- 9:46Speaker 3: UA Chef and on his case. I think it was
- 9:48Speaker 3: Channel sixty eight out of New Jersey. You know, kids
- 9:51Speaker 3: today you wouldn't believe it. You had a TV that
- 9:53Speaker 3: had an antenna and there was channel two, four, five,
- 10:00Speaker 3: nine to eleven, and then there was UHF. You could
- 10:02Speaker 3: switch over this UHF where there was like a channel
- 10:04Speaker 3: fifty in the channels. This sounds like the Flintstones. This
- 10:07Speaker 3: sounds so primitive. It sounds like cavemen who knew back
- 10:12Speaker 3: then that within a few years there'd be cable and
- 10:15Speaker 3: two hundred channels, and then years after that there'd be
- 10:19Speaker 3: cable and six hundred channels. And I remember we had
- 10:24Speaker 3: cable with six hundred channels and there was still nothing
- 10:26Speaker 3: to watch. You could have eight hundred channels, You're still
- 10:29Speaker 3: watching Law and Order reruns and that's it. But then
- 10:32Speaker 3: streaming begins and everybody forgets about regular TV. Everything is
- 10:37Speaker 3: streaming now. You know, it used to be a big
- 10:39Speaker 3: deal network TV. It means absolutely nothing anymore. You know,
- 10:42Speaker 3: you used to wait and see if your favorite show
- 10:44Speaker 3: got picked up for the next year. They just announced
- 10:47Speaker 3: all the renewals for next year. Tracker, that's like the
- 10:51Speaker 3: biggest show in network TV. Tracker got the renewed, Mattlock
- 10:55Speaker 3: got renewed. There's like a new Mattlock. It's not Andy Griffith.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I think it's a woman this time. Boston Blue got renewed,
- 11:02Speaker 3: but only for eight episodes. That's not a good saying.
- 11:05Speaker 3: All the NCIS has got renewed. Fire Country got renewed.
- 11:09Speaker 3: That's everywhere now, this Fire Country, I don't even know
- 11:11Speaker 3: what the hell it is. Sydney Survivor. I don't even
- 11:17Speaker 3: know most of these shows. Georgie and Mandy's first marriage.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Anybody know what that is? I don't know the Amazing Race,
- 11:22Speaker 3: I know what that is. Elizabeth got Elsbeth got the renewed. Okay,
- 11:26Speaker 3: so but again it doesn't mean anything. Nobody watches network
- 11:30Speaker 3: TV anymore. It's all streaming. Hey, Donald Trump has announced
- 11:34Speaker 3: a big lawsuit against JP Morgan Chase. JP Morgan Chase
- 11:40Speaker 3: being sued by Trump now for five billion dollars. And
- 11:43Speaker 3: he's got a great case. When he was the ex
- 11:47Speaker 3: president a few years ago, JP Morgan Chase de banked him.
- 11:52Speaker 3: In other words, they refused to allow him to have
- 11:55Speaker 3: a bank account. He had many bank accounts there, not personally,
- 11:58Speaker 3: but for his business. You talk about hundreds and hundreds
- 12:01Speaker 3: and hundreds of millions of dollars, and they threw them
- 12:05Speaker 3: out of the bank. Now, if you have a remember
- 12:07Speaker 3: Trump has a major, major corporation that's a global empire
- 12:11Speaker 3: doing business all over the world. That's impossible to run
- 12:14Speaker 3: a business without bank accounts. In fact, when you're a business,
- 12:18Speaker 3: you have many, many bank accounts. So to throw them
- 12:21Speaker 3: out to de bank them, and then other banks followed,
- 12:24Speaker 3: Bank of America and other banks followed. So he couldn't
- 12:26Speaker 3: believe it when it happened. How could you be blacklisted
- 12:30Speaker 3: from banks? You can't, how could you stay in business?
- 12:34Speaker 3: So it was a horrible, frightening thing to do to
- 12:36Speaker 3: a business. It wasn't just Trump. They did it to
- 12:38Speaker 3: a lot of conservatives. And Trump is now suing them
- 12:42Speaker 3: for five billion dollars. He most likely will get a
- 12:47Speaker 3: massive settlement. They'll probably settle with him for a fortune,
- 12:50Speaker 3: maybe even a billion dollars. Now, JP Morgan Chase is
- 12:55Speaker 3: a great company run by Jamie Diamond, best CEO in America.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Why would they do such a thing. They wouldn't because
- 13:02Speaker 3: it hurts the bank. Why would they do it? The
- 13:05Speaker 3: Biden administration forced them to. The Biden administration threatened the
- 13:09Speaker 3: banks with everything in the world. They're totally regulated and
- 13:13Speaker 3: dependent on government. The Biden administration threatened them and forced
- 13:17Speaker 3: them to do it. This is the other reason for
- 13:19Speaker 3: the lawsuit to get this to come out in court. Now,
- 13:23Speaker 3: Democrats may go to JP Morgan Chase and make them
- 13:27Speaker 3: settle this because they don't want Democrats don't want this
- 13:30Speaker 3: coming out in court that they played this kind of game,
- 13:34Speaker 3: the Shenanigans. So we'll see what happens. No matter how
- 13:38Speaker 3: it turns out, Donald Trump will be getting a hell
- 13:40Speaker 3: of a payday from this. Hey, well, take some calls
- 13:43Speaker 3: in a minute. Eight hundred three to two to one
- 13:46Speaker 3: zero seven ten is the number? Eight hundred three to
- 13:50Speaker 3: two one zero seven to ten.
- 13:53Speaker 6: Give war.
- 13:55Speaker 7: A Brie said on the iHeart Radio app to hear
- 13:57Speaker 7: marximone and all the wat in an instead.
- 14:02Speaker 6: Now back to the Mark Simo show on wo R.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Well, let's take some calls. Us go to uh Frank
- 14:09Speaker 3: in Arizona. Frank, how you doing well?
- 14:13Speaker 8: Mark?
- 14:13Speaker 6: Mark?
- 14:14Speaker 8: I was a huge Uncle Floyd fan back in the seventies.
- 14:17Speaker 8: When I was twenty six years old. He announced my
- 14:19Speaker 8: birthday and I wanted Uncle Milton's ant arm and all
- 14:23Speaker 8: the ants were dead when I got this. But his
- 14:26Speaker 8: show was kind of like a stupy stale show. You know,
- 14:28Speaker 8: it was kind of people will goof it up in
- 14:30Speaker 8: the back line, you can hit him talking, and he
- 14:32Speaker 8: just one goofy thing after another. He did characters. But yeah,
- 14:36Speaker 8: you're right.
- 14:37Speaker 3: It was a kind of a very local, very minor
- 14:39Speaker 3: league copy of the Soupy Sales show. That's what it was.
- 14:42Speaker 8: Oh, absolutely, and Mark, I love Vincent?
- 14:45Speaker 3: You love who Vincent?
- 14:48Speaker 8: Oh juddy Vincent?
- 14:49Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, yeah, Hey, what's the temperature in Arizona?
- 14:53Speaker 8: Uh?
- 14:53Speaker 9: You know what.
- 14:54Speaker 8: It's seventy two right now. It's supposed to rain today.
- 14:57Speaker 8: But yeah, you know, if you come out here now,
- 14:59Speaker 8: it's wa wait, but don't come out in August, is July,
- 15:01Speaker 8: and don't forget about it.
- 15:04Speaker 3: One hundred and twenty. Well, so what do you do
- 15:05Speaker 3: out there in the summer on its one hundred and twenty?
- 15:09Speaker 8: Well, you know what they say, in a winter time
- 15:11Speaker 8: back east, you're inside out here in the summertime, you're inside.
- 15:15Speaker 3: All right, Well, thanks for calling, yeah, but you know here,
- 15:17Speaker 3: we're inside a couple of days when it snows out there,
- 15:20Speaker 3: it's one hundred and twenty for a couple of months.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Let's go to let's go to Mike and Bayonne, Mike,
- 15:25Speaker 3: how you doing?
- 15:27Speaker 8: Hey, what's going on? Western Peace?
- 15:30Speaker 6: Then?
- 15:32Speaker 8: Uncle Floyd was fantastic. I think every New Jersey and
- 15:36Speaker 8: should fly their flags at half masks, and anyone who
- 15:39Speaker 8: doesn't know Uncle Floyd should go on YouTube and check
- 15:42Speaker 8: them out. Who was my hero when I was a teenager?
- 15:45Speaker 3: Well, you see that's interesting. Uncle Floyd died. I announced
- 15:48Speaker 3: it before. I'm thinking to myself too, a lot of
- 15:50Speaker 3: well people know who Uncle Floyd. Uncle Floyd touched a
- 15:53Speaker 3: lot of lives. I'm trying to think if I I
- 15:56Speaker 3: met him a few times. Actually, remember I used to
- 15:58Speaker 3: do the Saturday night show, The Oldie Show. On that
- 16:00Speaker 3: a couple of times he was a guest. I'm trying
- 16:03Speaker 3: to remember. I think I was on the Uncle Floyd
- 16:05Speaker 3: Show once somewhere in the eighties, and I remember doing
- 16:09Speaker 3: a some benefit somewhere with him where I think I
- 16:13Speaker 3: was the MC and he was on the show. He's
- 16:15Speaker 3: a very nice guy in real life. Let's go to
- 16:17Speaker 3: Jimmy and New Milford. Jimmy, how you doing?
- 16:22Speaker 8: And wanting short Rock?
- 16:26Speaker 3: What do you want a wood chipper? What's going on there?
- 16:30Speaker 9: I'm sorry, I'm just asking about that website.
- 16:33Speaker 8: Rock to you okay, yes, did you use that yet?
- 16:37Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 16:38Speaker 3: Grock is okay, it's the AI of Elon Musk. It's
- 16:41Speaker 3: the x AI. Depends what you want to do. Groc
- 16:45Speaker 3: is very good with some things. You want to create pictures,
- 16:48Speaker 3: I chat, GPT is better. Groc nu righte as good.
- 16:52Speaker 3: You don't sound like the AI type of guy, all right,
- 16:55Speaker 3: but thanks? Yeah. Uh, they're both good. There's a lot
- 16:59Speaker 3: of good ones. But if you want, if you got
- 17:01Speaker 3: a picture and you want to create, you know, take
- 17:03Speaker 3: your picture and create something. Uh Rock pretty good, chat
- 17:10Speaker 3: chipet to look a little more real. Let's go to
- 17:13Speaker 3: Joe in Elmwood. Joe, how are you doing?
- 17:16Speaker 10: Good morning, Mark. Sorry to hear about Uncle Floyd. Uh,
- 17:21Speaker 10: and kudos to Vincent.
- 17:22Speaker 8: Uh.
- 17:23Speaker 10: I want to talk about our new governor. What they did,
- 17:26Speaker 10: those two clowns and uh Trenton. They doubled our energy
- 17:32Speaker 10: costs And now she's going to put a cap on
- 17:34Speaker 10: it to be the hero.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Yeah, she's gonna be a mess, but you guys are
- 17:40Speaker 3: used to it in New Jersey. You keep collecting these
- 17:43Speaker 3: crazy idiots.
- 17:44Speaker 10: Yeah, and uh, when is uh Nick Shirley going to
- 17:49Speaker 10: come to New Jersey? We're sick of the fraud here.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the other problem. You know, New Jersey is
- 17:54Speaker 3: just wasting fraud and bloat. That's why your texes is
- 17:57Speaker 3: so hi. If you got Nick, Shirley and Elon must
- 18:00Speaker 3: going to bring there to clean it up, doge the
- 18:02Speaker 3: whole thing, your taxes would be about one third of
- 18:05Speaker 3: what they are now. And if you didn't know who
- 18:07Speaker 3: this woman was, if I just played this clip here,
- 18:09Speaker 3: if I didn't tell you who this was, would you
- 18:12Speaker 3: think this is a governor of a state.
- 18:14Speaker 11: I would encourage everyone to, you know what, have a
- 18:17Speaker 11: great family day at home this weekend, play some born games.
- 18:22Speaker 11: Don't go out in this.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Yeah, you see, if you're the mayor or the governor,
- 18:26Speaker 3: you're supposed to put on that jacket, you know, that snowjacket,
- 18:29Speaker 3: that official jacket, and sound very serious and lay out everything.
- 18:34Speaker 3: There'll be over two thousand salt spreaders. We'll be doing this,
- 18:36Speaker 3: we'll be doing that. You're supposed to sound very official, authoritative,
- 18:40Speaker 3: like you've got everything planned. You're not supposed to just
- 18:42Speaker 3: be goofy.
- 18:43Speaker 11: And I would encourage everyone to, you know what, have
- 18:46Speaker 11: a great family day at home this weekend. Play some
- 18:50Speaker 11: born games.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Don't go out. We play board games anymore? You do.
- 18:56Speaker 3: I can't imagine when you got eight million TV channels,
- 19:00Speaker 3: when you got eight thousand streaming services, when you got
- 19:03Speaker 3: your phone, your laptop. Who's going to play a board game?
- 19:06Speaker 3: But I guess people do. Hey, Sunday, you got two
- 19:07Speaker 3: great football games that will help. Let's go to Mario
- 19:11Speaker 3: in New Jersey. Mario, how you doing?
- 19:14Speaker 9: Oh, good morning, Mark, Thanks for taking my call. Listen,
- 19:18Speaker 9: I'm sorry about Uncle Floyd's passing.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Boy.
- 19:21Speaker 3: This Uncle Floyd turns out to be the biggest story
- 19:23Speaker 3: of the day.
- 19:24Speaker 9: It is, and I got to my memories of him.
- 19:27Speaker 9: Or when I back in the seventies, I was in
- 19:30Speaker 9: the army and Fort Dix, and before we went out
- 19:34Speaker 9: on maneuvers or whatever, we'd sit in the rec room
- 19:36Speaker 9: and everybody, all these soldiers and all their uniforms, we'd
- 19:40Speaker 9: all be watching Uncle Floyd.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Well, I can't think of anything more inspiring. Are you
- 19:45Speaker 3: supposed to be watching like Paton the movie or something?
- 19:48Speaker 3: But you're watching Uncle Floyd. That's a boy. But a
- 19:51Speaker 3: lot of people remember this guy. Let's go to Bill
- 19:53Speaker 3: in Lafayette, New Jersey. Bill, how you doing okay?
- 19:57Speaker 8: Mark? I graduated high school with Looney Skip Rowl, who
- 20:00Speaker 8: was the sidekick on the Uncle Floyd's show, and he
- 20:04Speaker 8: would invite me on the show just to watch once
- 20:06Speaker 8: in a while. So I used to ball at Eagle
- 20:09Speaker 8: Rock and I walked over to the recording studio and
- 20:13Speaker 8: I talked to Skiff and a couple other people, and
- 20:16Speaker 8: they had this guest waiting in the hallway. So I
- 20:20Speaker 8: walked down and I thought it was Tiny Tim, but
- 20:23Speaker 8: I was mistaken. But they introduced him on the show
- 20:26Speaker 8: later on and it was Howard Stern. I'm going, oh, yeah,
- 20:30Speaker 8: who the hell is this guy?
- 20:31Speaker 3: I forgot about that. Howard Stern was on the Uncle
- 20:33Speaker 3: Floyd show. Yeah, absolutely, back in the eighties. So Uncle Floyd,
- 20:38Speaker 3: it was Looney Skip Rooney, and then who else was
- 20:41Speaker 3: on the show. I'm trying to remember.
- 20:44Speaker 8: Mister Silly, Yeah, was one of my favorites, the fat
- 20:49Speaker 8: guy that always eat ate toast at the diner, and
- 20:54Speaker 8: a couple other guys. It's hard to remember, but it
- 20:57Speaker 8: was a great show. It was silly, it was goofy,
- 21:00Speaker 8: it was funny, it was entertaining, and Looney Skip Rooney
- 21:03Speaker 8: was a goof I actually tied with him as the
- 21:08Speaker 8: funniest guy in the high school. But he beat me
- 21:11Speaker 8: out by a couple of points.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Doesn't sound like the bar was too high in this
- 21:15Speaker 3: high school for that time. All right, Well, thanks for calling.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Great call. Yeah, so now a lot of people remember
- 21:23Speaker 3: Uncle Floyd. He passed away at the age of seventy four. Hey,
- 21:27Speaker 3: when we come back, Steve Cuzo the great New York
- 21:30Speaker 3: post Commas. He covers real estate, restaurants, what's going on
- 21:33Speaker 3: in New York, what's the state of the city, tourists,
- 21:36Speaker 3: office space, restaurants. We'll get to all of that coming
- 21:39Speaker 3: up next on seven to ten WR.
- 21:42Speaker 7: Mark Simone on sevent tenor.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Well, we're looking for Steve Cuzo. We'll find him. We'll
- 21:55Speaker 3: track him down. The snow is coming. It's going to
- 21:59Speaker 3: begin after midnight on Saturday, could be as early as
- 22:03Speaker 3: one am, more likely around three or four am on
- 22:05Speaker 3: Saturday night. So we'll start when you wake up Sunday.
- 22:08Speaker 3: It'll be snowing. It'll continue all day long, all day,
- 22:13Speaker 3: just won't stop, and it'll go overnight Sunday night into Monday.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Might stop Monday morning, but then come back just a
- 22:22Speaker 3: little Monday afternoon, and then by the time it's all over.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Expect six to eight inches. There's various models. One model
- 22:30Speaker 3: shows four inches, one shows twelve, but most of them
- 22:32Speaker 3: showing six to eight inches, so it'll be a mess. Hey,
- 22:35Speaker 3: Steve Cuzo is the great columnist New York Post. Nobody
- 22:40Speaker 3: better on real estate, restaurants and what's going on in
- 22:42Speaker 3: New York. Steve Cuzo, how you doing?
- 22:45Speaker 6: Hey, good morning.
- 22:46Speaker 7: I can't wait for this blizzard because I have a
- 22:49Speaker 7: secret source, Mark that tells me it's going to be
- 22:53Speaker 7: no inches.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Well, I don't know who that's source is.
- 22:57Speaker 6: It's another one of these overhyped phenomenal.
- 23:00Speaker 3: You know, I don't know. It looks like from our
- 23:02Speaker 3: best weather people, it's locked in at this point.
- 23:04Speaker 6: It's not gonna I know, I know, I know. Here
- 23:07Speaker 6: we go.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Hey, Hey, Yeah, from what I can see from your
- 23:10Speaker 3: columns you're reporting and everything else I can see in here,
- 23:13Speaker 3: Manhattan real estate is booming. Is that really the.
- 23:17Speaker 7: Yeah, it's yeah, it's not. It's the whole city, but
- 23:20Speaker 7: especially Manhattan's a phenomenon. You know, last night, I don't
- 23:25Speaker 7: know if you were there, Mark, but it was a
- 23:27Speaker 7: Real Estate Board of New York's annual gala event biggest
- 23:32Speaker 7: party in real estate, and at the it was at
- 23:34Speaker 7: the Waldorf Astoria, and which was a great thing because
- 23:38Speaker 7: they for one year they didn't do it because of COVID.
- 23:41Speaker 7: Then three years was at this event space on the
- 23:44Speaker 7: far West Side that nobody wanted to go to. And
- 23:48Speaker 7: so now it's back in full force at the Waldorf
- 23:50Speaker 7: for the first time. And you know, the Waldorf is
- 23:53Speaker 7: the new Waldorf is quite spectacular, and it was a party.
- 23:57Speaker 7: It was a celebration of all these real estate both
- 24:00Speaker 7: commercial and residential, having a blast, and they were well
- 24:05Speaker 7: dressed and it really felt like a celebration that said,
- 24:08Speaker 7: you know, when I worried about Trump, when I worried
- 24:11Speaker 7: about Mamdanie, when I worried about you know whatever, Greenland.
- 24:16Speaker 6: We had a great year and they did.
- 24:18Speaker 7: You know, there were a record number of excuse me,
- 24:22Speaker 7: commercial market which I cover leasing was over the moon
- 24:28Speaker 7: building sales which had really lacked behind the leasing improvement
- 24:32Speaker 7: over the since the end of the pandemic, and last
- 24:36Speaker 7: year it was like eleven billion dollars of investment sales,
- 24:40Speaker 7: which means that's the term for sales of buildings and
- 24:46Speaker 7: selling office buildings, first time in five years there was
- 24:50Speaker 7: a sale for over a billion dollars five ninety Park
- 24:54Speaker 7: Avenue on Madison Avenue.
- 24:56Speaker 6: So real estate is doing phenomenally well.
- 25:00Speaker 7: Only thing I don't believe this is doing as well
- 25:01Speaker 7: as they say is retail. You know, I get tired
- 25:06Speaker 7: of reading all these wonderful surveys by all the brokerages,
- 25:09Speaker 7: by the Business Improvement districts, by the Real Estate Board
- 25:12Speaker 7: of New York itself about how you know, record retail
- 25:16Speaker 7: leasing this that, And I walk around and I see
- 25:19Speaker 7: gazillions of empty stores. But you know, it's a matter
- 25:22Speaker 7: of there's a lot of nuance.
- 25:25Speaker 3: But that real estate real estate stuff. That's not a
- 25:27Speaker 3: factor of mandani or leadership. That's just retail dying.
- 25:31Speaker 6: No, no, no, Also, residential sales.
- 25:33Speaker 7: This is not my field of expertise, as you know,
- 25:36Speaker 7: but from everything I'm told and everything I read in
- 25:39Speaker 7: the Post and elsewhere, a great year for the residential market.
- 25:44Speaker 7: Super high sales of luxury condos and co ops. Co
- 25:48Speaker 7: Ops mounted a real rally after a couple of years
- 25:52Speaker 7: of playing second fiddle to condos. A lot of people
- 25:55Speaker 7: don't want co ops anymore, but they bounce back to
- 25:58Speaker 7: So yeah, it's a hell of a good sign for
- 26:01Speaker 7: the city as a whole, no matter what happens on
- 26:03Speaker 7: the social front. You know, all the problems with the schools,
- 26:07Speaker 7: which Mondani is.
- 26:08Speaker 6: Only likely to make worse. So yeah, it was it
- 26:12Speaker 6: was a banner year.
- 26:14Speaker 3: One of those jentas is yelling everybody's leaving New York.
- 26:16Speaker 3: It's not true. It's not true, of course not.
- 26:19Speaker 6: It's never been true. And in the past.
- 26:22Speaker 7: I remember when when Trump got elected people everybody was
- 26:25Speaker 7: leaving the country, remember that one.
- 26:27Speaker 6: Yeah, and then when he got re elected there was
- 26:29Speaker 6: there was nobody left to leap because everybody had already left.
- 26:33Speaker 7: So yeah, these things. Look, you know, we've got to
- 26:37Speaker 7: sell papers. Broadcast media has to attract the viewers.
- 26:42Speaker 6: Uh.
- 26:42Speaker 7: Social media just has to make a lot of noise
- 26:45Speaker 7: whenever they can. So uh yeah, I don't have any
- 26:48Speaker 7: good feelings whatsoever about Montani. And yet I think that
- 26:53Speaker 7: commercial real estate especially.
- 26:55Speaker 6: Is oblivious to this.
- 26:56Speaker 7: The only thing that could be harmful is if thevenor
- 27:00Speaker 7: you know, caves in and gives in too. Mumdanni's pipe
- 27:06Speaker 7: dream of raising taxes on corporations and everything. She wouldn't
- 27:10Speaker 7: do that this year because she's up for reelection. But
- 27:14Speaker 7: next year, the following year could be a problem. But
- 27:16Speaker 7: commercial real estate is so strong. It's the driver of
- 27:20Speaker 7: the New York economy, not just the city but the state,
- 27:23Speaker 7: and it's a power behind the entire national economy. Real
- 27:29Speaker 7: Estate taxes from real estate contribute more to the city
- 27:34Speaker 7: treasury than any other than anything else, more than Wall Street,
- 27:38Speaker 7: for example.
- 27:39Speaker 6: Most people don't know that, but it's a fact.
- 27:42Speaker 3: So when you see stores closed, wait where you read
- 27:45Speaker 3: about the Sacks going bankrupt? This the only reason for
- 27:48Speaker 3: that is online shopping has nothing to do with New
- 27:51Speaker 3: York right.
- 27:52Speaker 6: Well, it has. It's online shopping is a factor.
- 27:55Speaker 7: But you notice that Bloomingdale's is doing fine, Macy's is
- 27:58Speaker 7: doing fine, Artstream is having no problem. In the case
- 28:01Speaker 7: of Sacks Global, the parent company which includes Sacks and
- 28:06Speaker 7: Nieman Marcus, which they stupidly bought about a year and
- 28:10Speaker 7: a half ago, and Burgdorf Goodman, the only Burgdorf Goodman
- 28:14Speaker 7: in the world is right here in New York on
- 28:16Speaker 7: Fifth Avenue, that was a lot of mismanagement and a
- 28:21Speaker 7: lot of needless over expansion. And you know, retail is
- 28:24Speaker 7: not my forte. But I do know I'm very skeptical
- 28:29Speaker 7: of all large sized mergers and acquisitions, because inevitably any
- 28:36Speaker 7: merger or acquisition UH saddles the company with enormous debt,
- 28:41Speaker 7: and they basically served to. I mean, they can have
- 28:44Speaker 7: their you know, good consequences as well. But I believe
- 28:47Speaker 7: that I remember aol Time Warner once upon a time.
- 28:51Speaker 7: All they do is saddle the company with debt and
- 28:54Speaker 7: they and they enrich all the excuse me, all the
- 28:58Speaker 7: inside players, corporate ex executives, investment bankers, lawyers, accountants, consultants
- 29:05Speaker 7: at the expense of everybody else.
- 29:07Speaker 6: Anyway, in the case of Sacks, the stores aren't going
- 29:11Speaker 6: to close.
- 29:11Speaker 7: I mean they're going to close a few stores outside
- 29:13Speaker 7: of New York, yes, but it looks like they're on
- 29:17Speaker 7: their way to restructuring. They're getting a cash or liquidity infusion,
- 29:23Speaker 7: and presumably life and business will go on here as
- 29:29Speaker 7: it did in the past, at least from the consumer's
- 29:31Speaker 7: point of view. If you go to Sacks right now,
- 29:33Speaker 7: they're stretching the merchandise. You can see it on the shelves,
- 29:36Speaker 7: but because they weren't paying their vendors.
- 29:39Speaker 6: But I think that's going to change.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Hey, Steve Kisser, there's a lot of skyscrapers going up.
- 29:44Speaker 3: I mean one hundred stories, seventy story, sixty stories, They're
- 29:46Speaker 3: going up all over the place, fifty seventh Street, Park Avenue, Madison.
- 29:50Speaker 3: So can we handle all that extra traffic here?
- 29:54Speaker 6: You mean do you mean crowding? Mark? What do ye?
- 29:58Speaker 3: People? Cars?
- 30:00Speaker 7: New York has always been overcrowded. I say, the more overcrowding,
- 30:04Speaker 7: the better. It's it means life, it means people spending money. Uh,
- 30:09Speaker 7: it's what makes the city exciting, why people want to
- 30:12Speaker 7: come here, where they want to be here. So over
- 30:14Speaker 7: the Christmas holidays, you know, my office is two blocks
- 30:18Speaker 7: away from the Rockefeller Center tree, and I hated every
- 30:22Speaker 7: minute of it, of the six weeks between roughly Thanksgiving
- 30:25Speaker 7: and you know, right after New Year's and.
- 30:28Speaker 6: Because you couldn't move on the streets.
- 30:30Speaker 7: I couldn't literally couldn't get into the subway right next
- 30:33Speaker 7: door to my building because I had to fight my
- 30:35Speaker 7: way through crowds.
- 30:36Speaker 6: And yet that's a selfish concern.
- 30:39Speaker 7: The bigger picture is that it's it's life, it's energy,
- 30:43Speaker 7: and it's commitment, and it's well for New York City.
- 30:47Speaker 6: So I'm I'm all for that.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Yeah, you got a lot of hot new restaurants that
- 30:51Speaker 3: are Have we ever had this many jam peck restaurants
- 30:54Speaker 3: in New York?
- 30:56Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 30:56Speaker 7: It depends the good restaurants, the import restaurants, the ones
- 31:01Speaker 7: that are backed by big money.
- 31:02Speaker 6: I think had never done better. There's a squeeze in
- 31:05Speaker 6: the middle, and at the lower end.
- 31:08Speaker 7: You know, everybody's oh, the rent is too high. All
- 31:11Speaker 7: that rent has always been too high. But every basically
- 31:16Speaker 7: what it comes down to is every place that I go,
- 31:19Speaker 7: which is by no.
- 31:20Speaker 6: Means you know, the the the only the elite restaurants,
- 31:24Speaker 6: as you might think, I go to all kinds of restaurants.
- 31:29Speaker 6: It's hard to get the table anywhere. And this is January.
- 31:33Speaker 6: January is traditionally the worst month for restaurants in New York.
- 31:36Speaker 7: I mean, in the past, you could have gotten seats
- 31:39Speaker 7: at when Noble is in its original location, in the
- 31:42Speaker 7: hottest restaurant in like the country. You could easily get
- 31:46Speaker 7: tables at Noble the week of from the month of January.
- 31:49Speaker 6: That's not true anymore.
- 31:52Speaker 7: And I've been to excuse me, niuid restaurants like Lusardies
- 31:58Speaker 7: on First Second Avenue the other night, and they're all packed.
- 32:04Speaker 6: And this is it was about twelve degrees out. Yeah,
- 32:06Speaker 6: so what does that say.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Well, that's good. New York is booming. That's good to hear.
- 32:10Speaker 3: You should read Steve Cuzo's columns. All his columns are
- 32:14Speaker 3: up on the New York Post website. You can read
- 32:15Speaker 3: them all there, and he writes great stuff. Steve Cuso,
- 32:19Speaker 3: New York Post. Steve, thanks for being with us.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Thanks Mark, always a great time. Yeah, take care. So
- 32:26Speaker 2: that's all good news. New York booming. Don't listen to
- 32:29Speaker 2: these people about everybody leaving. It's busier than ever in
- 32:33Speaker 2: New York. Hey, don't forget. If you're a podcast listener,
