- 1:07Speaker 3: Shoot Monday.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Cool, Well, good evening, and thank you for joining me
- 1:17Speaker 4: for another episode of Let's Talk About It. I am
- 1:20Speaker 4: your Hostnett Johnson. Usually I'm here on the first and
- 1:26Speaker 4: third Monday of each month, but last Monday we had
- 1:33Speaker 4: a little descriptioncy within the date. So I'm here today
- 1:41Speaker 4: and I'm actually in Denver. I flew out to Denver
- 1:44Speaker 4: on Friday to visit my husband and meet with his
- 1:50Speaker 4: defense counselor counsel. But before I get into that, I
- 1:55Speaker 4: have a couple of things that I want to talk
- 1:59Speaker 4: about that been on my heart. First, I want to
- 2:05Speaker 4: go to This month is considered Black History Month, and
- 2:15Speaker 4: for throughout the whole month, me and my daughters and
- 2:20Speaker 4: a couple of my friends, we have been talking about
- 2:24Speaker 4: how our jobs is not honoring Black History Month. You know,
- 2:31Speaker 4: usually we really usually they will have things out are
- 2:38Speaker 4: you know, talking about the different you know, what our
- 2:44Speaker 4: ancestors have contribute to this great, supposedly great nation. But
- 2:53Speaker 4: we celebrated everything else, from Valentine's state to presidents. We
- 3:01Speaker 4: celebrate every other Ethnicity Holiday. But when it came down
- 3:13Speaker 4: for Black History was it nothing put on at our
- 3:23Speaker 4: at the work place. Actually, my daughter, my baby daughter,
- 3:29Speaker 4: where she works at.
- 3:31Speaker 3: They went to the head people.
- 3:37Speaker 4: And they said, hey, you know, for President's Day, you
- 3:40Speaker 4: guys told us to dress up in red, white and blue,
- 3:45Speaker 4: and we came here in red, white and blue. Valentine's Day,
- 3:49Speaker 4: we did all red, you know, put stuff out for
- 3:54Speaker 4: Valentine's Day, but not once have you guys mentioned anything
- 4:00Speaker 4: about Black History Month. So I guess they went on
- 4:09Speaker 4: and they approved it, and they told them, well, you
- 4:11Speaker 4: guys get to twenty seventh and you guys can order
- 4:17Speaker 4: some shirts, but the shirts won't be on in until
- 4:20Speaker 4: next month. And they are pretty upset about that, you know,
- 4:29Speaker 4: because they feel that they should have had a chance
- 4:34Speaker 4: to celebrate, you know, brain their history, celebrate their history
- 4:40Speaker 4: as well as Presidents Day and Valentine's Day, and now
- 4:49Speaker 4: they receiving backlash, backlash from their fellow employed, fellow co
- 5:00Speaker 4: workers and to higher up. And I just told them,
- 5:05Speaker 4: I said, you know what, regardless, if don't don't body
- 5:11Speaker 4: celebrate our history, we can celebrate it ourselves. If it's
- 5:19Speaker 4: not being taught, if our black. If our history is
- 5:23Speaker 4: not being taught in the schools, it's up to the
- 5:27Speaker 4: parents and the grandparents to teach our history to our children.
- 5:37Speaker 4: One thing they cannot do is erase the greatness that
- 5:45Speaker 4: blacks are. Black ancestors are. Hopefully I'm saying that right
- 5:55Speaker 4: have contribute.
- 5:58Speaker 3: We have so much.
- 6:02Speaker 4: That our young people probably don't know what they invented.
- 6:10Speaker 4: We invented the stop sign to stop like we I mean,
- 6:18Speaker 4: matt On C. J. Walker, straightening Cone. You know, we
- 6:23Speaker 4: all know that, George Washington Carver. We have so many
- 6:31Speaker 4: great people out there that our children needs to know about.
- 6:43Speaker 4: One of my concerns is our children, our children, especially
- 6:53Speaker 4: our male Black males, or a higher rate in this
- 7:05Speaker 4: prison system. When I did my research, it was over
- 7:14Speaker 4: seven hundred thousand black men are incarcerated. Some of them
- 7:28Speaker 4: are in there wrongfully. Just don't take my word, do
- 7:37Speaker 4: your research. I did minds. So we need to get
- 7:43Speaker 4: a hold to our children. People may say that I'm
- 7:48Speaker 4: racist or what I'm saying is racist, but it's not.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Who's going to stand up for our children.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Who's going to fight for our young black men and women.
- 8:13Speaker 3: I am so tired.
- 8:18Speaker 4: A scene history repeat itself, Emmit till.
- 8:28Speaker 3: I seen on the TV.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Or it was on a platform where a mother is grieving, grieving,
- 8:41Speaker 4: grieving the loss of her son. I believe he was
- 8:45Speaker 4: twenty six, twenty seven. I want to say his name was.
- 8:51Speaker 3: The Kwan.
- 8:54Speaker 4: Let me make sure that I have his name right,
- 8:57Speaker 4: coming out of Grand Rappid.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Where he was on the bike.
- 9:11Speaker 4: And they got him into all an apartment building and
- 9:17Speaker 4: I know you got hopefully you guys seen this. He
- 9:21Speaker 4: went into apartment building and they restrained him. He was
- 9:24Speaker 4: down on his knees. I believe his mom was saying
- 9:29Speaker 4: that a couple of other people was reporting and an
- 9:33Speaker 4: officer shot him three times in the back of the
- 9:42Speaker 4: head for no reason. He was They already had him restrained.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I can feel that mother's pain. Everyone should feel that
- 10:00Speaker 4: mother's pain. We've seen it with Joy Floyd, George Floyd.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Now here it is again. Here it is again, Texas,
- 10:20Speaker 4: Old Texas. What you're doing to our young men over
- 10:29Speaker 4: there for standing their ground? When did it stand your
- 10:35Speaker 4: ground become.
- 10:39Speaker 2: A crime?
- 10:43Speaker 4: When did when? When did it become a crime? Is
- 10:47Speaker 4: it only a crime because of the color of their skin?
- 10:59Speaker 4: We have two young men's as you know over in
- 11:05Speaker 4: Texas one getting ready to go start trial. His trial
- 11:14Speaker 4: start in June. I believe, I believe Angelus told me
- 11:19Speaker 4: is start in June. This baby was at a track meet.
- 11:33Speaker 4: He was where he's supposed to be at, and you
- 11:40Speaker 4: had other people come and assault him, but he stood
- 11:49Speaker 4: his ground because someone lost their life. And my heart
- 11:57Speaker 4: goes out to that parent. Should no parent have to
- 12:03Speaker 4: bury a child.
- 12:04Speaker 3: But he put.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Himself in a situation that he shouldn't have did, and
- 12:16Speaker 4: he wind up losing his life.
- 12:19Speaker 3: And now.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Another young man has to stand go before the courts
- 12:28Speaker 4: because of that. Then we have another one young man.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I don't know his name.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Hopefully Angela compened for me. Angela ben applicating a lot
- 12:44Speaker 4: of them being applicating on his behalf. And I believe
- 12:48Speaker 4: he's currently out of out of jail because they have
- 12:57Speaker 4: revoked his his bell. I believe a young lady spit
- 13:04Speaker 4: on him. Hm hmm, what's what's what's your reaction if
- 13:13Speaker 4: somebody spit on you, what will be your reaction? I
- 13:20Speaker 4: don't know the whole story behind his but he also Christopher.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Oh I can't see it. His name is Christopher?
- 13:34Speaker 3: Uh, what is that?
- 13:36Speaker 4: I can't well, I can't see his name is at
- 13:38Speaker 4: the bottom of the screen. I can't see it. Christopher
- 13:47Speaker 4: Neenhause m hmm, stand his brad one nine.
- 16:09Speaker 2: I tell everybody it goes back to.
- 16:13Speaker 5: That that that that that Amendment number thirteen, the thirteenth Amendment,
- 16:17Speaker 5: where they allow free labor for those that are incarcerated.
- 16:22Speaker 5: We know that in the state of Texas. We know
- 16:24Speaker 5: in the state of Texas that there's a lawsuit ending
- 16:28Speaker 5: currently where the private prison system is suing the prison
- 16:33Speaker 5: system of Texas because TDCJ because they did not house
- 16:38Speaker 5: they didn't fill all those beds. They had an agreement
- 16:42Speaker 5: that they will feel a certain amount of beds. They
- 16:44Speaker 5: did not feel those beds, and now they're be ensued.
- 16:48Speaker 5: For those that don't know and don't.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Un I don't know what happened, Angela, but also Angela
- 17:04Speaker 4: was talking about that it's a lawsuit over there in Texas.
- 17:11Speaker 4: It's also a lawsuit over here in Denver against the
- 17:20Speaker 4: governor for free labor for the inmates that's over here,
- 17:28Speaker 4: free labor. They're holding them longer so they can get
- 17:36Speaker 4: free labor, so they can get paid everything. You know,
- 17:44Speaker 4: we have a conversation, Oh let me go back in Texas.
- 17:51Speaker 4: The young boy name was Tristan. Tristan Waters was a
- 18:02Speaker 4: Trician water where he was drugged and they ain't doing
- 18:10Speaker 4: nothing about that. A young boy he was drugged and
- 18:18Speaker 4: his mother is speaking out against that. It's so many
- 18:25Speaker 4: things that's happening that are you there out here to
- 18:31Speaker 4: our young men.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Reason, I don't know what's going on in.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Our young women, but we don't have nobody that's that's
- 18:40Speaker 4: that's gonna that's gonna speak out for Angela.
- 18:44Speaker 3: How is Trician doing well?
- 18:49Speaker 5: His mom is definitely gonna start she she has she
- 18:53Speaker 5: had let up on advocating and doing stuff.
- 18:56Speaker 2: But it's been two years.
- 18:57Speaker 5: It's it's it's gonna be two years since this happened
- 19:01Speaker 5: with him. We we are gonna get back to advocating.
- 19:05Speaker 5: She's gonna get back to advocating. So y'all will probably
- 19:08Speaker 5: start seeing a lot more about his case. But definitely
- 19:14Speaker 5: there's a lot that needs to take place in the
- 19:16Speaker 5: state of Texas.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Concerning our kids.
- 19:20Speaker 5: It's it's just out of control and these people think
- 19:24Speaker 5: that they can do any and everything to our kids,
- 19:27Speaker 5: and and that has to stop. And we got to
- 19:30Speaker 5: let them know that we're not We're not settling. We're
- 19:32Speaker 5: not settling, you know. And I tell people all the
- 19:35Speaker 5: time we are not our ancestors, and and I don't
- 19:38Speaker 5: say it in a negative way because guess what, all
- 19:40Speaker 5: that they went through, all that they endured, it was
- 19:44Speaker 5: for us to not have to.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Go through it.
- 19:46Speaker 5: So I I stand ten toes down on, you know,
- 19:51Speaker 5: advocating and and and and showing people, you know that.
- 19:55Speaker 2: We have rights.
- 19:56Speaker 5: We we we we are humans, and we we deserve
- 20:00Speaker 5: the same respect and we deserve the same thing that
- 20:03Speaker 5: everybody else upon this earth deserve.
- 20:06Speaker 2: We are humans too, exactly exactly.
- 20:09Speaker 4: And you know, it's it's a shame that, you know,
- 20:14Speaker 4: don't nobody want to come out, really not coming out.
- 20:20Speaker 4: You have everything else that's camouflaged, the injustice that's going
- 20:26Speaker 4: on in Texas, all over everything, everybody is focused on
- 20:34Speaker 4: one thing. Why can't we just focus on on getting
- 20:48Speaker 4: our young keeping our young kids out of prison.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Why we can't do that?
- 20:57Speaker 4: Why can't we focus on one speaking the truth instead
- 21:08Speaker 4: of putting out false narratives about someone someone family because
- 21:16Speaker 4: they stood their ground. Why can't we just be who
- 21:28Speaker 4: God created us to be? Why should we be judged
- 21:33Speaker 4: by the color of our skin. Why it doesn't make
- 21:45Speaker 4: no sense. Let me tell you this, Tell you guys this,
- 21:55Speaker 4: When you know Southwest had did this whole thing where
- 21:59Speaker 4: they give you, they assign you seating except the first
- 22:08Speaker 4: couple of rows on the plane. You can purchase them
- 22:11Speaker 4: seats they called priority seat or more legs seat. So
- 22:16Speaker 4: you know, I don't like sitting in the back. I
- 22:19Speaker 4: don't like sitting in the middle. I like sitting in
- 22:21Speaker 4: the front. So I purchased my seat three eight window seat.
- 22:31Speaker 4: I was priority one to board. So about time I
- 22:36Speaker 4: got on the plane, it was a couple already sitting
- 22:43Speaker 4: in a seat, but the window seat was unoccupied because
- 22:49Speaker 4: that was my seat. That whole when they seen me,
- 23:00Speaker 4: you should have seen their faces.
- 23:04Speaker 3: It wasn't like, oh hi, you know, come on in.
- 23:08Speaker 4: You know, it was like, oh, I gotta sit by her,
- 23:15Speaker 4: so you know, I get in. You know, I'm getting
- 23:19Speaker 4: myself all together and stuff. The lady she put down
- 23:24Speaker 4: an orn rest, this orm rest. I don't care. I
- 23:28Speaker 4: had an arm rest over here, and if I wanted
- 23:30Speaker 4: to lean on something, I was gonna lean this way.
- 23:34Speaker 4: She decided she wanted to put she trying to make
- 23:38Speaker 4: me uncomfortable. And you know, I just laugh because you
- 23:45Speaker 4: you gonna get you gonna keep on and you're gonna
- 23:48Speaker 4: get choked.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Messing, keep keep bothering me. So this is what. So
- 23:54Speaker 3: we tax me.
- 23:55Speaker 4: In down to tax the tax way whatever. And she
- 24:02Speaker 4: decided she wanted to lean like this on her husband.
- 24:06Speaker 4: And now she got her feet towards towards me, towards
- 24:11Speaker 4: my feet, and she just sitting up there bouncing, bouncing that,
- 24:16Speaker 4: just feeding the feet. Her feet just kept like hitting me,
- 24:20Speaker 4: like kicking me, like she just kicking me. So I
- 24:23Speaker 4: looked at her, and you know, she on her little
- 24:28Speaker 4: iPad and stuff. Now we're up in the air, so
- 24:34Speaker 4: the sun was bright. We up in the air, and
- 24:38Speaker 4: they on they iPad. Remember I got the window seat
- 24:43Speaker 4: and I got a shade.
- 24:45Speaker 2: What I do.
- 24:48Speaker 4: I had the I lit up the window shade so
- 24:54Speaker 4: the light can go all across. Because so you're trying
- 24:57Speaker 4: to make me uncomfortable.
- 24:58Speaker 3: You don't kick me towards.
- 25:03Speaker 4: You're not fash to look at no movie now because
- 25:06Speaker 4: I'm gonna let all the sunlight on end and I'm
- 25:09Speaker 4: not letting it down until we touched down. And that's
- 25:13Speaker 4: how we wrote so then I guess she I guess
- 25:17Speaker 4: the sunlight.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Was bothering her. What she gonna put her foot on
- 25:21Speaker 3: my leg?
- 25:22Speaker 4: So now I don't kick I don't have to move
- 25:24Speaker 4: her leg, her foot off my leg, and then she
- 25:26Speaker 4: don't kick me and everything.
- 25:28Speaker 3: So now I'm getting irritated. And I looked at her
- 25:34Speaker 3: and I called on God. And the reason why I
- 25:38Speaker 3: did that because I'm not I'm not fair material.
- 25:45Speaker 4: And my husband said, well, you should have just uh
- 25:51Speaker 4: just went on it. Just should have just told her, hey,
- 25:54Speaker 4: you know, knock it off. I said no, I said,
- 25:56Speaker 4: you know what I said, I did right. I held
- 25:58Speaker 4: my composure and I called out on God. I called
- 26:01Speaker 4: him three times. I was like, Lord, Lord, oh Jesus,
- 26:07Speaker 4: you got to help me. You got to give me
- 26:08Speaker 4: some strength now, because I was this much from you know,
- 26:19Speaker 4: probably hitting her, cussing her out. But then she would
- 26:22Speaker 4: have flipped the narrative. She wouldn't have told what she did.
- 26:26Speaker 4: I would have looked like the aggressor because the color.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Of my skin.
- 26:32Speaker 4: She would have flipped it, and then I would have
- 26:38Speaker 4: been the one coming off that plane in handcuffs, not her.
- 26:45Speaker 4: After she don't kick me three or four times and
- 26:49Speaker 4: try to make me feel uncomfortable. That's what happened to
- 26:57Speaker 4: me this past Friday, and so I had to just
- 27:15Speaker 4: like evaluated the whole situation. And then I start seeing
- 27:22Speaker 4: everything that was going on with our young men, with
- 27:30Speaker 4: our young women and stuff, and it made me mad
- 27:36Speaker 4: because everybody is always looking for the blacks. Where's the
- 27:43Speaker 4: black people at? Where's the African American people at? You
- 27:48Speaker 4: guys gonna stand up for us?
- 27:50Speaker 2: Well?
- 27:50Speaker 4: Who in the help excuse me, gonna stand up for us?
- 27:57Speaker 4: Who who's gonna stand up? They say, it's a lot
- 28:02Speaker 4: of people out there, but where they at, where they at,
- 28:16Speaker 4: we all are fighting the same thing. We are all
- 28:24Speaker 4: fighting the same thing, but because the color of our skins,
- 28:37Speaker 4: we get it more, we get it worser. But everybody
- 28:41Speaker 4: don't think so. My five year old grandson was told
- 28:50Speaker 4: by another five year old that he was a ugly.
- 29:01Speaker 4: We're gonna say n word. He they that five year
- 29:05Speaker 4: old called him an ugly and I said, oh yeah,
- 29:13Speaker 4: I said he called you that. I said, you know
- 29:16Speaker 4: you know what that word is. He was like, no, grenny,
- 29:20Speaker 4: and I said, you are very handsome. I said, don't
- 29:24Speaker 4: never think that you're ugly. And that ain't who you are.
- 29:30Speaker 4: So we got through that. Then he comes to my house.
- 29:38Speaker 4: My grandson comes to my house two weeks ago and
- 29:45Speaker 4: he's sitting there and I'm talking to him, and he said, Granny,
- 29:50Speaker 4: do you know what.
- 29:51Speaker 3: He did to me? I said, well, what did he
- 29:53Speaker 3: do to you this time? Man?
- 29:56Speaker 4: And he said, he locked me in the bathroom. I
- 30:02Speaker 4: said what he locked me in the bathroom. And my
- 30:07Speaker 4: five year old grandson was showing me how he was
- 30:13Speaker 4: bamming on the door.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Saying, let me out, let me out.
- 30:22Speaker 4: I called my daughter. I told her, if you don't
- 30:25Speaker 4: go down to that school, I'm going because it's no
- 30:31Speaker 4: way he should be getting called out of his name.
- 30:36Speaker 4: There's no way they should lock him in the bathroom.
- 30:43Speaker 4: So now when he has to go to the restroom,
- 30:48Speaker 4: he holds it because he won't go back in that bathroom.
- 30:53Speaker 4: He went to the nurse's office. He went to the
- 30:56Speaker 4: office and he has them could he used to that's
- 31:00Speaker 4: And they told him, oh, go to the other bathroom.
- 31:03Speaker 3: He said no.
- 31:06Speaker 4: So I told my daughter, I said, you better call him,
- 31:11Speaker 4: you better call him.
- 31:14Speaker 2: I don't have it up to hear. I don't have
- 31:19Speaker 2: it up to hear.
- 31:21Speaker 4: I don't have it up to here, and and I
- 31:27Speaker 4: try to make sense of it. I try to walk
- 31:33Speaker 4: the way God wants me to walk. I try to
- 31:36Speaker 4: use my voice the way God wants me to walk,
- 31:42Speaker 4: to use it. I try not to offend nobody, but
- 31:48Speaker 4: it seemed like the more I stay quiet, the more
- 31:53Speaker 4: I don't speak up, I get offended. But when I
- 31:58Speaker 4: speak up and I speak out, I'm the aggressor.
- 32:06Speaker 3: And at this point I don't care no more.
- 32:11Speaker 4: I'm going to continuously speak up and I'm going to
- 32:16Speaker 4: speak out because I don't have enough.
- 32:23Speaker 2: We need to teach our.
- 32:26Speaker 4: Children right from wrong, and we need to teach our
- 32:33Speaker 4: children our heritage, the greatness read to them. We don't
- 32:48Speaker 4: need to be up in the clubs parents when we
- 32:52Speaker 4: have our children. If you have your children young, clubbing,
- 32:57Speaker 4: all of that stuff is over. You have a responsibility
- 33:05Speaker 4: and a Bible tells you train up a child in
- 33:10Speaker 4: a way he should go.
- 33:23Speaker 3: I know I probably don't got.
- 33:24Speaker 4: Off subject or whatever, but I just needed to vent.
- 33:30Speaker 4: I needed to get that out. You guys, we got
- 33:40Speaker 4: to love on each other. We have to love each other.
- 33:48Speaker 4: Were planning into I don't know, but we got to
- 33:57Speaker 4: love one another because what we do on this side
- 34:03Speaker 4: of the dirt, it's gonna follow us on the other side,
- 34:07Speaker 4: and that's when we're gonna be judged. Treat people how
- 34:16Speaker 4: you want to be treated, because you will have to answer.
- 34:28Speaker 4: You will have to answer. Just know I'm go ahead
