- Adam Rutz: Failure sucks. Nobody wants to fail. But if you're willing to learn from it, failure can become one of the greatest sources of strength you have. When I played college baseball, I was a pitcher and I struggled constantly to throw strikes. I felt like I was living in failure 247. And it wasn't easy. There were plenty of times where I questioned myself, questioned whether I was good enough, and I hated the results that I was getting. But looking back, that experience taught me something I didn't fully understand at the time. It taught me how to bounce back. It taught me how to keep showing up after things didn't go my way. And years later, I was able to use that in business. In 2024, there was a corporate award with my insurance agency that I wanted to qualify for. And I missed it that year. It sucked. But missing that award Forced me to reassess. What did I need to do differently? Where did we need to improve? What needed to change so the next year looked different? That failure gave me information. And I was able to use that information to come back better the following year. That's what failure can do for you. Failure sucks in the moment. As human beings, we don't want to lose. We don't want to fall short. And you absolutely should not become comfortable with mediocrity. But there's a difference between accepting failure and learning from failure. So think about something you've failed at recently. What happened? And more importantly, what did it teach you? Because if you learn from failure, that failure becomes a strength you can use later. Perfection is impossible. Yes, strive for excellence, chase perfection, but understand that you're going to fail along the way. Embrace it, learn from it. But most importantly, don't waste the failure. Mindset, process, discipline, execution. That's mental performance daily.
