- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. I wear many hats. Some days I'll say
- 0:16Speaker 1: go Irish. Some days I will say go hookies. Other
- 0:18Speaker 1: days maybe cocaines. We'll see who ever say go Patriots.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I watched basketball yesterday. I'm so excited to talk about it.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I have a three point line now. The game's changed
- 0:31Speaker 1: a lot since I watched. Still a little worried, but
- 0:34Speaker 1: I think the Celtics are gonna be I mean, I'm
- 0:35Speaker 1: new to this basketball analysis, but I thought then that
- 0:37Speaker 1: started out pretty well. Till Duran becomes Durant, They're not
- 0:41Speaker 1: gonna They're not gonna win this area, which one seeing.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Continuing with Nate's email, because so far it's so good.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Eric likes to fashion himself as an expert in a
- 0:49Speaker 1: lot of areas it's not. And then I challenge him
- 0:52Speaker 1: on say, okay, but I get invited to the IFP
- 0:55Speaker 1: International Fourth Products Christmas Party. They had me like kind
- 0:58Speaker 1: of be the host of it. So I got out
- 1:00Speaker 1: there and I roasted Bob. After week goes, you think
- 1:04Speaker 1: you're finding same with so like I just drank too
- 1:08Speaker 1: much of everything. This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:18Speaker 1: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday, but
- 1:22Speaker 1: more importantly, it is draft week. We are in the
- 1:27Speaker 1: thick of it, right, Mike, right tomorrow, Paul Eric soon
- 1:32Speaker 1: to be here, Matt in the booth. We are getting
- 1:34Speaker 1: ready for the draft. I can't wait. And we're back
- 1:37Speaker 1: in person Thursday night Draft party here riche Lett's Stadium.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Patriots Unfilked will be live starting at seven thirty for that,
- 1:45Speaker 1: so I can't wait. Cast A thousands, cast A thousands
- 1:48Speaker 1: will have live interviews from the stage with Patriots luminaries.
- 1:53Speaker 1: We'll go right into the draft at eight o'clock when
- 1:56Speaker 1: that starts. So I'm excited. And plus the food, food,
- 2:00Speaker 1: food food. I'm excited too because my first two drafts
- 2:04Speaker 1: have been COVID relate. You know, we didn't have the
- 2:08Speaker 1: same show. We've never done it around a party. It's
- 2:10Speaker 1: just been us, you know. So I'm excited for that
- 2:12Speaker 1: aspect of it. And too, I think you get to
- 2:14Speaker 1: this point and you're like, all right, enough with the
- 2:16Speaker 1: mock drafts and and this guy and this guy and
- 2:18Speaker 1: who's rising, Like, just tell me who we got and
- 2:21Speaker 1: then we can jump in and really start to break
- 2:23Speaker 1: it down. Yeah, I agree with everything you just said.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Oh good, you got the stamp of approval. As always,
- 2:29Speaker 1: I tend to get let Mike push me out. The
- 2:31Speaker 1: recurring theme in the last couple of years, the good housekeeping,
- 2:34Speaker 1: Paul Peroo stamp of approval. You know it, Freddie. Yeah, well,
- 2:37Speaker 1: I mean it's it's a long few months, and I
- 2:39Speaker 1: do enjoy I've had a resurgence of the draft the
- 2:42Speaker 1: last couple of years of you know, I mean, now
- 2:43Speaker 1: it's my job. I got a little sick of it.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I think over you know, when you're blogging, it's like, man,
- 2:47Speaker 1: here we go again. I got to figure out all
- 2:49Speaker 1: these guys. But um, but it's fun. There's a lot
- 2:51Speaker 1: of a lot of guys that you know, a lot
- 2:53Speaker 1: of bloggers out there, writers that you know, do study
- 2:56Speaker 1: all these stuff, and I think a lot of people
- 2:58Speaker 1: have landed on a lot of similar names. Some kind
- 3:01Speaker 1: of drive you crazy, Like Slave Boulding, who you know,
- 3:04Speaker 1: everyone just is convinced. I don't think he's even gonna
- 3:06Speaker 1: get drafted, but for some reason, he's the answer in
- 3:09Speaker 1: the seventh round. I don't think there's a mock draft
- 3:11Speaker 1: out there that doesn't have slave Boulding going to the Patriots.
- 3:13Speaker 1: But speaking of the seventh round, the earth stopped spinning
- 3:16Speaker 1: yesterday because the Patriots pulled off a trade with Nickossario.
- 3:20Speaker 1: When the Texans Patriots fifth, they're second fifth because they
- 3:25Speaker 1: had two fives, Yeah, their second fifth for a six
- 3:29Speaker 1: and a seventh from Houston. Yeah. I mean they went
- 3:32Speaker 1: down like that's it solve thirteen spots. So the question,
- 3:36Speaker 1: I think, you know, you get the two hundred forty
- 3:38Speaker 1: fifth pick to move down like twelve spots. So I
- 3:41Speaker 1: think it's I think it's a reasonable question for the
- 3:43Speaker 1: lay person to ask, why, why why make that trade? Yeah,
- 3:48Speaker 1: I mean it's I wish I had a reasonable answer,
- 3:50Speaker 1: I know. I mean you're kind of grasping at straws
- 3:53Speaker 1: a little bit. I mean I thought when they, you know,
- 3:54Speaker 1: acquired the fifth, they didn't have I think a fifth
- 3:56Speaker 1: round pick originally, and then they acquired one, you know,
- 3:58Speaker 1: so oh that makes sense. They're out in the draft
- 4:00Speaker 1: out they still have one. But I mean I think
- 4:03Speaker 1: it gives them. I guess they put some value on
- 4:05Speaker 1: that seventh round or whether that's to throw that into
- 4:08Speaker 1: you know, help them move maybe a little bit, or
- 4:10Speaker 1: at least to have somebody have a pick on the
- 4:12Speaker 1: last day and be able to maybe get a priority
- 4:14Speaker 1: free agent instead of having a wait and compete for
- 4:16Speaker 1: it for those guys. I mean, it's what two hundred
- 4:18Speaker 1: forty five. I mean, it's very very close to the
- 4:20Speaker 1: end of the draft that now they didn't have a
- 4:22Speaker 1: seventh round. Now they do, so, but is that important
- 4:26Speaker 1: to have a seventh round pick? Now? I heard one?
- 4:28Speaker 1: I heard one explanation. Well, you know, the word is
- 4:32Speaker 1: that there's a lot of phone calls going around the
- 4:34Speaker 1: league from teams looking to move down. So that means
- 4:39Speaker 1: there might be value in moving up because so many
- 4:42Speaker 1: people want to do that. But having a six and
- 4:45Speaker 1: a seventh does that help you with assets to do that?
- 4:48Speaker 1: Wouldn't a fifth at least do the same, if not better? Oh,
- 4:52Speaker 1: would be more? Right? Yeah? Right? Yeah? I mean I
- 4:56Speaker 1: don't know the idea that you you're compiling more chill
- 5:00Speaker 1: to trade is absurd, right with it? That's that's one
- 5:03Speaker 1: explanation that you know, getting a seventh rounder to add
- 5:06Speaker 1: to your your you know, because it's not much in
- 5:09Speaker 1: terms of what value is of Oh we'll throw that
- 5:11Speaker 1: step that that'll get you to the you know, up
- 5:14Speaker 1: in the draft. This is not a lot of value.
- 5:16Speaker 1: But I mean I think it was. It's twelve spots, right,
- 5:22Speaker 1: they the Texans moved up twelve spots. It customed to
- 5:26Speaker 1: the two hundred forty fifth pick of the draft. Yep,
- 5:29Speaker 1: so what do you You're not moving anywhere? You know,
- 5:32Speaker 1: Like for years, Bill every year would do a trade
- 5:35Speaker 1: with the Eagles. It was almost like just to do it.
- 5:39Speaker 1: You think, like he's just opening the lines of communication
- 5:42Speaker 1: with Nick, you know. Just I don't know. I mean,
- 5:45Speaker 1: I kind of like Mike's theory of the priority free agents.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Maybe there's like they want to make sure they get
- 5:51Speaker 1: one of their guys. Yeah, maybe, you know, and maybe
- 5:54Speaker 1: they just don't want to be out of it when
- 5:56Speaker 1: they make that pick in the sixth and then all right,
- 5:58Speaker 1: well that's it, we got nothing left, we're done. Maybe
- 6:00Speaker 1: they at least want to have one more little pick
- 6:02Speaker 1: to maybe grab one more guy. But yeah, I think
- 6:04Speaker 1: it would make even less sense if they didn't have
- 6:07Speaker 1: two fifth round picks, you know, and then now they're
- 6:09Speaker 1: out of the fifth but they're still in the fifth
- 6:11Speaker 1: with their original one. So I mean, but you know,
- 6:15Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah tomorrow, let's say you. I feel
- 6:18Speaker 1: like this nine picks. I feel like this draft is
- 6:21Speaker 1: so unpredictable. I feel like this is one the first
- 6:24Speaker 1: time that we have no idea who the number one
- 6:26Speaker 1: overall pick is going to be. Yeah, we don't. And
- 6:28Speaker 1: I feel like the first ten picks are crazy. It
- 6:32Speaker 1: could either be a bunch of quarterbacks, it could be alignment,
- 6:35Speaker 1: it could be corners, it could be wide receivers. And
- 6:37Speaker 1: so I think that with all the uncertainty going into
- 6:40Speaker 1: this draft, I feel like anything goes, whether it's Bill
- 6:44Speaker 1: trading his pick away or trading up, trading down. What
- 6:48Speaker 1: if he doesn't trade at all. I think that would
- 6:50Speaker 1: be crazy. If we keep our first pick on Thursday.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Now listen, I think it's all. But I think that's
- 6:56Speaker 1: what makes this draft cool because we have no idea.
- 7:00Speaker 1: The experts have no idea. And if yes, people that
- 7:02Speaker 1: are predicting, you know, well not predicting, they're they're claiming
- 7:05Speaker 1: that everybody's looking to move down. If that's right, then
- 7:07Speaker 1: there's a really good chance the Patriots will end up
- 7:10Speaker 1: staying at twenty one. Because if everyone wants to do it,
- 7:13Speaker 1: there's no value in doing it. You know, there's value
- 7:16Speaker 1: in moving up? Yeah, not not down right? Yeah, I
- 7:20Speaker 1: mean I think as you know, as you laid it
- 7:21Speaker 1: out to Meraw, it's like, yeah, and how it unfolds,
- 7:25Speaker 1: who are the Patriots going to get a shot at?
- 7:26Speaker 1: You know, those tackles get pushed down to the cornerbacks
- 7:30Speaker 1: get pushed down to the receivers get pushed down. Are
- 7:34Speaker 1: does somebody take Malik Willis? And then another team is
- 7:37Speaker 1: then forced to jump up and get pick it because
- 7:39Speaker 1: they know they need to get one of those guys.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I mean, we were talking upstairs of it feels like
- 7:43Speaker 1: teams are going to reach on those two guys. I
- 7:45Speaker 1: don't know. I think the run on quarterbacks will come
- 7:47Speaker 1: after the Patriots pick. I really I do too. I
- 7:50Speaker 1: think Carolina should happen. I think Carolina would be crazy
- 7:54Speaker 1: to take a quarterback at six. Yeah. Yeah, and that's
- 7:58Speaker 1: the that's the one wild card in that top ten. Yeah. Yeah,
- 8:01Speaker 1: we did like pick it to the Steelers. I mean,
- 8:03Speaker 1: that's just a pit guy going to Pittsburgh. I don't think.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I mean, I like will It's better than pick it.
- 8:08Speaker 1: But we had. The upside for Willis is higher than
- 8:11Speaker 1: pick it. But I don't really like either one of them.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Yeah no, I don't think either from the first round guys.
- 8:17Speaker 1: In any other year, they'd they'd be Day two guys
- 8:19Speaker 1: and wouldn't be thrust into the fire. And I feel
- 8:22Speaker 1: like that's what's going to happen to both of them potentially,
- 8:25Speaker 1: and maybe you know, short circuit their careers. But I mean,
- 8:28Speaker 1: you look at the teams that need Carolina Washington. So
- 8:32Speaker 1: if you had to, if you had to guess right now,
- 8:35Speaker 1: who the first overall pick will be, who would you say?
- 8:38Speaker 1: I think Hutchinson. I think everyone's going Trayvon Walker now, yeah, yeah,
- 8:42Speaker 1: I heard he has risen. Yeah. I was listening to
- 8:44Speaker 1: Good Morning Football this morning and Trayvon Walker. They're expecting
- 8:47Speaker 1: him all the rage. I know, well, and I love
- 8:50Speaker 1: I love him, but I don't I don't know how
- 8:53Speaker 1: much he's going to be positioned for success in in Jacksonville.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I think a guy like Hutchinson, he kind of is
- 8:59Speaker 1: what he is, but I think that's kind of what
- 9:00Speaker 1: they need, is a guy that you're just gonna play
- 9:02Speaker 1: defensive end. You're you're that guy. You're a big presence there.
- 9:06Speaker 1: You know, I think Walker to me is more of
- 9:08Speaker 1: a guy that a defense here would that that's where
- 9:11Speaker 1: he would excel. Where do you move him around? You
- 9:13Speaker 1: play him in different positions. I don't know how much
- 9:15Speaker 1: they're gonna do it. Why can't you do that in
- 9:16Speaker 1: Jackson because I think they're just gonna stick him at
- 9:18Speaker 1: defensive end and he's not going to produce like he
- 9:21Speaker 1: I don't think he's gonna have the same impact that
- 9:23Speaker 1: Hutchinson would have, you know, in a basic defense where
- 9:26Speaker 1: you know, is he an interior defensive tackle? I mean,
- 9:29Speaker 1: doesn't have huge numbers. But but but what's your definition
- 9:32Speaker 1: of a basic defense? Now? Because what defense is basic? Mean?
- 9:39Speaker 1: Is there a defense that has been worse on numbers
- 9:41Speaker 1: than the Patriots over the years. I mean Chandler Jones
- 9:44Speaker 1: leaves here and becomes a seventeen sack guy. Yeah, but
- 9:47Speaker 1: I know, and everybody always said that's because of the
- 9:49Speaker 1: way Bill sets it up. I agree with that. I
- 9:52Speaker 1: do too. Yeah, I think that Bill's defense doesn't necessarily
- 9:55Speaker 1: lend itself right to that kind of production. I think
- 9:58Speaker 1: that's a great example. And I would say this, and
- 10:00Speaker 1: I think it's right, and I think that's I think
- 10:02Speaker 1: Chandler Jones was a guy. Did I just say, did
- 10:04Speaker 1: I do it right? You did? Did you did? You
- 10:06Speaker 1: had you had to do? I should? I should. I've
- 10:09Speaker 1: been working on it um. But I think that's kind
- 10:11Speaker 1: of what it is, you know. I think he was.
- 10:13Speaker 1: And that's why, you know, when I did my big
- 10:15Speaker 1: board back then, I was like Chandler Jones. It feels
- 10:17Speaker 1: like he's that guy, you know, But I think he's
- 10:20Speaker 1: like Hutchinson a little bit playing you know, a regular
- 10:23Speaker 1: defensive end role. You know, maybe he stands up a
- 10:25Speaker 1: little bit like Chandler Jones does. In that was just
- 10:27Speaker 1: it again reverted. That was special. We nailed that one.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Andy and I had Chandler Jones. We may may or
- 10:35Speaker 1: may not have had a little intel on that one,
- 10:37Speaker 1: but yeah, that was one that we got right. But
- 10:40Speaker 1: I I love Walker. I just I questioned what his
- 10:42Speaker 1: fit is in just you know, a regular four three
- 10:45Speaker 1: front you know, two two D tackles, two D n
- 10:48Speaker 1: that like what Jacksonville does. I don't know how he
- 10:50Speaker 1: fits exactly. I think he's a great player and he's
- 10:52Speaker 1: got all these numbers. But like we talked about with
- 10:54Speaker 1: all the Georgia guys. It's a projection with these guys,
- 10:56Speaker 1: it's not you know who exactly is the is the
- 10:59Speaker 1: best one? You know? And that probably sum and remind
- 11:04Speaker 1: me when the draft comes around, that's a question I
- 11:07Speaker 1: want to ask if we take a Jogia defense defensive
- 11:10Speaker 1: player twenty one, if the Patriots take Nakobe Dean, Yeah,
- 11:14Speaker 1: just how difficult is it to sort of uh evaluate
- 11:18Speaker 1: these guys want when they're on such a talented collegiate defense.
- 11:21Speaker 1: How do you know which guy is the one that
- 11:23Speaker 1: made it work? Yeah? And which guys It's hard to
- 11:26Speaker 1: start Jordan Davis because he's huge, and it's just that's
- 11:28Speaker 1: he'll be huge in the NFL too, So I like that.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I feel like that translates. But after that, but I mean,
- 11:35Speaker 1: say the same thing about Alabama, Like, oh yeah, that's
- 11:37Speaker 1: the last time I asked this question was about Cyrus Jones.
- 11:42Speaker 1: It's true. Yeah, I got I got an Ada boy
- 11:44Speaker 1: from Freddie when I asked a question. No, I remember
- 11:46Speaker 1: it vividly. It's true. I mean we've seen it, not
- 11:49Speaker 1: just the guys that the Patriots have picked from Alabama,
- 11:51Speaker 1: but across the board, you know, got especially the secondary
- 11:55Speaker 1: you know, like, who were these guys that you know,
- 11:58Speaker 1: who's helping who, who's making who better? Um? I you know, um,
- 12:02Speaker 1: it wasn't Alabama, but I remember Florida. You know, Bill
- 12:05Speaker 1: took Cunningham because he thought he was the guy and
- 12:09Speaker 1: he wasn't the guy. He did the same thing with
- 12:12Speaker 1: Boston College, right, he took um, what's his name, Michael Brace,
- 12:19Speaker 1: Ron Brace. Oh yeah, but they weren't like BC wasn't
- 12:22Speaker 1: like No, but there was another guy on the line
- 12:25Speaker 1: that year that was better, was better, you know when
- 12:28Speaker 1: he Bill took Ron Brace. So I don't know, I
- 12:31Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, I think Dean would be the
- 12:33Speaker 1: one that I would have a little pause just because he's,
- 12:36Speaker 1: you know, small, and you're playing behind Jordan Davis, who's
- 12:38Speaker 1: as big as they come from the NFL, and not
- 12:40Speaker 1: to mention college. So and I don't have a great
- 12:43Speaker 1: read too on Kuay Walker or you know, the other
- 12:46Speaker 1: linebackers that they have. UM, I don't know. I think
- 12:49Speaker 1: it's a great question. I just look at Treyvon Walker though.
- 12:51Speaker 1: When he's got all the measurables, he can stand out,
- 12:54Speaker 1: you know, he can do everything in the front, and
- 12:56Speaker 1: that's what's appealing to him, but he doesn't have projection protetion. Know,
- 13:00Speaker 1: to be fair, we look at what is offered to
- 13:03Speaker 1: us in terms of highlights. But you know, all the
- 13:06Speaker 1: coaching staffs have every game, every play, So when it
- 13:11Speaker 1: comes to these Georgia guys, they're looking at, Okay, who
- 13:14Speaker 1: are they playing against, who are they matched up against?
- 13:16Speaker 1: You know, how many times did they do it on
- 13:19Speaker 1: their own? So they can they can isolate these guys
- 13:21Speaker 1: and see how how they do when they go up
- 13:24Speaker 1: against a guy who can block, you know, and and
- 13:28Speaker 1: you know, so it's probably a little easier for them
- 13:31Speaker 1: to figure out, you know who who can do it
- 13:34Speaker 1: on their own without the help around them. But but
- 13:37Speaker 1: it's still it's still difficult, you know, when you have
- 13:39Speaker 1: that many good players on the team and that defense
- 13:42Speaker 1: is exceptional. Yeah, I mean that was not just well,
- 13:45Speaker 1: that was the national champs and that's what national championship
- 13:48Speaker 1: defense looks like. That was a special defense. I think
- 13:51Speaker 1: you might look at that group in ten years and say,
- 13:53Speaker 1: that's the best defense we've seen in ten years, right.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I mean you could probably take the top five defenders
- 13:58Speaker 1: coming out and put them on the Patriots and they
- 14:00Speaker 1: probably would step in and maybe start. You know, that's
- 14:03Speaker 1: how including my boy ever. Yeah, who Lewis Lewis seen
- 14:07Speaker 1: Lewis safety from Ever, that's your guy. No, well, it's
- 14:10Speaker 1: because he went by high school, took the took him
- 14:12Speaker 1: to the took him to the Promised Land, right any uh,
- 14:15Speaker 1: later round guys that you're kind of taking a fancy too,
- 14:19Speaker 1: like third or later, third round or later. Yeah, Mike
- 14:22Speaker 1: turned me onto a wide receiver that I've had to,
- 14:25Speaker 1: you know, continue to write about. I'll let you. Oh no,
- 14:28Speaker 1: that's my guy. I was giving you Kyle Phillips. Oh,
- 14:31Speaker 1: Kyle Phillips. Yeah, I got a Kyle Phillips a little
- 14:33Speaker 1: thing going. It's just because he reminds me of Welker.
- 14:35Speaker 1: I mean he looks like, well, Gre's bigger than Walker was,
- 14:37Speaker 1: but sure handed, small slock guy, punt returner, punt returner.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I mean, and I say this with he's not the
- 14:45Speaker 1: most explosive, dynamic guy, and I think that they need
- 14:48Speaker 1: more than him. I'd love to get him as the
- 14:51Speaker 1: B option, like a second day. So if you could
- 14:53Speaker 1: get him like the second receiver you take, I would
- 14:55Speaker 1: love it. I think he's he's just there kind of guy.
- 14:58Speaker 1: And I think, like I said, to talk him with
- 15:00Speaker 1: the Combine and Marc Daniel Scott, we ever watched, Well,
- 15:03Speaker 1: that's my guy. I mean you can tell you just
- 15:04Speaker 1: watched him. It's it's Westwalker. He knows how to get
- 15:07Speaker 1: open inside. I really enjoy. I have a feeling that
- 15:10Speaker 1: they're not going to take a ride receiver in the
- 15:12Speaker 1: first round, and maybe not even the second round. I
- 15:14Speaker 1: think they're gonna just focus on defense. I had. I
- 15:17Speaker 1: just have this feeling. I don't think that one offensive line. Yeah,
- 15:21Speaker 1: you know, I agree, Yeah, I both counts. I think
- 15:24Speaker 1: defense is probably most likely, but offensive line would be
- 15:26Speaker 1: over wide receiver um early anyway. But I do think
- 15:31Speaker 1: my guy, Khalil Shaker from Boise State is a guy.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I really like him. Yeah, I like him a lot.
- 15:37Speaker 1: It's a program that generally the Patriots hap. I mean,
- 15:41Speaker 1: I'm not saying they've never taken a guy from Boise State.
- 15:43Speaker 1: I remember that tight end one hundred years ago. That's
- 15:45Speaker 1: to Chelski, Dave Stachelski, I think nineties. But it's no,
- 15:51Speaker 1: it wasn't. It was a Belichick pit what was it? Yeah? Wow?
- 15:54Speaker 1: And I think that there's a reason they sort of
- 15:57Speaker 1: gravitate toward the programs that they know a little bit more,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and that's one of them. You know, you never know
- 16:03Speaker 1: how those guys kind of kind of translate. But I
- 16:05Speaker 1: think he has some some dynamic ability to play in
- 16:10Speaker 1: the slot end outside. I got good straight line speed.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I like him a lot. He's a guy wouldn't mind
- 16:16Speaker 1: seeing like in the third round to marry anybody like
- 16:19Speaker 1: it's kind of your your pet pick right now, but
- 16:22Speaker 1: not the obvious first rounder guys, but guys that have
- 16:25Speaker 1: to dig a little deeper for the punk God. Oh gosh,
- 16:29Speaker 1: I have seen that a little bit when I was
- 16:31Speaker 1: looking at people's mock mock drafts, but um one, I
- 16:36Speaker 1: forgot about Khalil Shaker until you guys just brought that up.
- 16:38Speaker 1: When I worked for the Mountain West, I covered Boisi
- 16:41Speaker 1: Steate a lot, And that's actually a really, really really
- 16:44Speaker 1: good pick. And now I'm gonna have to be good
- 16:46Speaker 1: steal it. Top of that, I'm gonna have to steal that.
- 16:47Speaker 1: You could steal it while you're on the show. We
- 16:49Speaker 1: always everybody that it takes a while to marry, but
- 16:53Speaker 1: everybody generally comes around to my line of thought on
- 16:56Speaker 1: a lot of things. It happens, It happens. One. I
- 17:00Speaker 1: never had any thoughts of going to Idaho ever in
- 17:03Speaker 1: my life until looking for the Mountain West. I really
- 17:06Speaker 1: really really liked it. It's like a que college town. Also,
- 17:09Speaker 1: what coach Harson did with that program was incredible. Obviously
- 17:12Speaker 1: now he's in Auburn, but you get used to the turf.
- 17:15Speaker 1: That's a bit scary and fun fact that I didn't
- 17:18Speaker 1: know before I got there. Apparently a lot of birds, yes,
- 17:21Speaker 1: like dive into the turf because they think it's waters
- 17:24Speaker 1: water and then so they're constantly having killer Yeah, oh
- 17:28Speaker 1: my god, like big birds. Was just dead birds. Okay,
- 17:31Speaker 1: like seagulls. Like their boyd. He's got their boyd has
- 17:33Speaker 1: a heavier lift than our boyd. Our boy just chased away.
- 17:35Speaker 1: There got like another the boy being the bodies the
- 17:38Speaker 1: field dog. Yeah yeah, well we heard him doing some
- 17:41Speaker 1: boy draft prep. We thought we heard a dog barking.
- 17:43Speaker 1: They getting boyd ready for the getting ready for the draft.
- 17:46Speaker 1: They're showing them the board. Yeah, here's a guy that
- 17:49Speaker 1: kind of jumped out. He's he's raw, he's got but
- 17:53Speaker 1: he's got a huge upside. Tariq woolen Um cornerback from Austin,
- 17:58Speaker 1: Texas Austin or whatever. I think it's Texas san Antonio
- 18:02Speaker 1: san Antoni. Yeah, yeah, he can play. Yeah, he could
- 18:05Speaker 1: play like he's the six four guy, right, yes, yeah,
- 18:08Speaker 1: but you could know. But he runs he runs a
- 18:10Speaker 1: sub four three. Yeah, he's a good athlete. It's four.
- 18:14Speaker 1: But really Raw hasn't played the position all that much.
- 18:16Speaker 1: If it's a guy, he was a wide receiver, and
- 18:19Speaker 1: I think that someone who can sort of develop defensive
- 18:24Speaker 1: backs really well can get a diamond in the rough there.
- 18:27Speaker 1: That's a good pick for that category. Yeah, so I
- 18:29Speaker 1: think you know he's projected third, third, fourth round. I
- 18:33Speaker 1: wouldn't mind picking him up. Yeah, corner I mean big need,
- 18:38Speaker 1: I mean Paul, we'll have tomorrow. We did a write
- 18:40Speaker 1: up for what do we call it? Paul? What is it?
- 18:43Speaker 1: Just like just just a little random, a little draft
- 18:45Speaker 1: primer kind of what do we all think? I love it?
- 18:47Speaker 1: I love it. Yeah, haven't got to my answers. Yeah, well,
- 18:50Speaker 1: Fred doing extensive research. He brought down the beast um
- 18:53Speaker 1: you know today? Does Eric know you printed all that?
- 18:56Speaker 1: Oh wait, I do have one more receiver fire away
- 19:01Speaker 1: from the acc from Wake Forrest do you know how
- 19:05Speaker 1: I'm going to say no, no, David Bell, No, I
- 19:13Speaker 1: think one. I love his leadership too. He is a
- 19:17Speaker 1: long time Pats fan, which is pretty cool. Um, that
- 19:20Speaker 1: could be something for Alex later if the Patriots happening
- 19:22Speaker 1: to draft him in a late round. But um, I
- 19:25Speaker 1: think he's great. Back to back eight touchdown seasons, over
- 19:27Speaker 1: two over two thousand like receiving yards. Um. Obviously wake
- 19:31Speaker 1: Forest is not an Alabama, but I think that he
- 19:34Speaker 1: is great sized and speed and ability. The thing to
- 19:37Speaker 1: look at those guys is what how did they do
- 19:40Speaker 1: when they played the better team? Yeah? Well, wake Forest?
- 19:43Speaker 1: I mean that's not like you know, I know they're
- 19:46Speaker 1: not they're not bad, but like, how does it You know,
- 19:48Speaker 1: you've got those top teams Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia,
- 19:54Speaker 1: but those teams when you're not that team, how do
- 19:56Speaker 1: you play when you play Georgia Alabama? Did you still play? Well? Yeah?
- 20:00Speaker 1: You know, yeah, I think. Um. What I like about
- 20:04Speaker 1: him is the fact that one, he's not just getting
- 20:07Speaker 1: those receiving yards, but he's also producing in the red zone,
- 20:10Speaker 1: which I think is something that is extremely helpful, especially
- 20:13Speaker 1: when you're looking at um for example, I when I
- 20:18Speaker 1: look at the Patriots offensive year in their red zone struggles,
- 20:20Speaker 1: it'd be great to bring in someone like that who
- 20:22Speaker 1: can not just get the receiving yards but also produce
- 20:24Speaker 1: in the red zone. So so sound. This is probably
- 20:28Speaker 1: a topic for another like I look out another day.
- 20:30Speaker 1: But red zone struggles for the Patriots. Was it a
- 20:33Speaker 1: product of the targets or mac Jones, you know, being
- 20:37Speaker 1: young and yeah, indecisive, Like I love Jacoby, I'm a
- 20:40Speaker 1: big Jacoby fan. Say that, but I would have loved
- 20:44Speaker 1: more touchdowns sure the zone. Yeah, absolutely got that one.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Get one. Yeah, I'll give you. Another guy that Mike
- 20:53Speaker 1: and I both talked about on our podcast is one
- 20:56Speaker 1: Dale Robinson from Kentucky who was a guy who was
- 20:59Speaker 1: a running back. He's tiny, He's like five eight. He's
- 21:02Speaker 1: a small guy, five eight one seventy five tops. He flies.
- 21:07Speaker 1: He reminds me of Debo with the ball in his hands,
- 21:10Speaker 1: and he was a running back. They give them, they
- 21:11Speaker 1: give him the ball on jet sweeps and they find
- 21:13Speaker 1: ways to get the ball in his hands as a
- 21:15Speaker 1: wide receiver the last couple he's been very productive for KENTI.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I think he started his career at Nebraska, he said,
- 21:20Speaker 1: with a question mark. But he's a guy with some versatility.
- 21:25Speaker 1: I could see him carving out. He's not ever gonna
- 21:28Speaker 1: be the main cog in and off. It's not gonna
- 21:30Speaker 1: be Debo, he's too small for that. But I could
- 21:33Speaker 1: see him being like a James White, you know, niche
- 21:37Speaker 1: kind of player who could have a really successful career
- 21:41Speaker 1: and again maybe a late Day two, early day three pick.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Yeah right, yeah, you're better at the project projections. Ever
- 21:50Speaker 1: since NFL trass scout went away, I don't know, my
- 21:52Speaker 1: min't know who's coming or going. I don't know way
- 21:55Speaker 1: these guys are getting taken. I think though. One of
- 21:57Speaker 1: my just my my biggest concerns I think though is
- 22:00Speaker 1: is the edge. And I just I don't think that
- 22:02Speaker 1: that there's been enough talked about that everyone. You know,
- 22:04Speaker 1: the holes at guard and cornerback are are obvious. Um,
- 22:08Speaker 1: the long term need at tackle and wide receiver certainly there,
- 22:11Speaker 1: certainly there. But I just I just don't know who's
- 22:14Speaker 1: across from Jude on, who's who's playing. These could be
- 22:16Speaker 1: a good year for that too. There's there's a handful
- 22:19Speaker 1: that are gonna go. You know, Jaine Johnson's of those
- 22:23Speaker 1: guys that could be in that twenty one area, yep.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I mean that's and I don't but I don't really
- 22:27Speaker 1: love any of them. I'd love if if Jermaine Johnson
- 22:29Speaker 1: felt I thought that, I mean, he'd be outstanding. I'm
- 22:32Speaker 1: you know, seeing things now, he might go in like three. Um,
- 22:35Speaker 1: but I just every time you do a mock draft
- 22:38Speaker 1: around twenty one you get there, there's no real like
- 22:41Speaker 1: good at Like, there's not a Chandler Jones type player there. Really,
- 22:45Speaker 1: I know, to two out of three day not too bad. Um,
- 22:48Speaker 1: you know, it's just what direction do they go? Are
- 22:50Speaker 1: they really looking for a stand up guy? I mean,
- 22:52Speaker 1: you know Nakobe Deane and Devin Lloyd, but they have
- 22:56Speaker 1: a bunch of guys in the middle. I'm not going
- 22:57Speaker 1: to tell you that any like Nakobe Deane and Devin
- 22:59Speaker 1: Lloyd might be better than all these guys that they
- 23:01Speaker 1: have outside of maybe Jawan Bentley. I don't know what
- 23:04Speaker 1: they have there. But when you look on the edge,
- 23:06Speaker 1: it's okay, who who you know? First down? Who's out
- 23:09Speaker 1: there across from Jude on setting the atocha Like, I
- 23:11Speaker 1: don't I don't know, I really don't know. Right now.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I think that's a spot where you know, what we
- 23:16Speaker 1: saw out of the defense towards the end of last year.
- 23:18Speaker 1: You know, I know it wasn't great with van Noy
- 23:20Speaker 1: high tower callings. Those guys are all gone. Even Winive
- 23:23Speaker 1: It's not that he was an edge player, but he's
- 23:24Speaker 1: gone too. So I just think edge, how do they
- 23:27Speaker 1: approach that? What do they come out of this weekend?
- 23:29Speaker 1: You know, does is Oucha gonna get a chance to
- 23:32Speaker 1: really start? And even if he does, don't you want
- 23:33Speaker 1: another guy who's big and tough and can at least
- 23:36Speaker 1: go early downs, maybe stop the run a little bit.
- 23:39Speaker 1: I don't know how they're going to approach it. I
- 23:40Speaker 1: just don't think there's enough being said about the edge,
- 23:42Speaker 1: the need. The front of the defense feels like it's
- 23:44Speaker 1: in serious need of talent. I just I look at
- 23:46Speaker 1: the defense. It's not very good right now. There's not
- 23:49Speaker 1: a lot that you can hang your hat on. You
- 23:51Speaker 1: can tell me the Barmore's good. I like Adrian Phillips.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I think Dugger's got some promise. But outside of that
- 23:57Speaker 1: little trio of guys like I don't really feel great
- 24:00Speaker 1: out a whole lot on the entirety of the defense.
- 24:02Speaker 1: And you know, I go back to Paul, all right,
- 24:04Speaker 1: excuse me again. I go back to twenty twelve where
- 24:07Speaker 1: you got you went, You're aggressive. You got two guys
- 24:09Speaker 1: who immediately stepped in kind of changed the whole dynamic
- 24:11Speaker 1: and really set the stage for you know, championships a
- 24:14Speaker 1: couple of years time for them. Yeah, you know, yeah,
- 24:16Speaker 1: they were aggressive. You have something to say tomorrow. You
- 24:18Speaker 1: were kind of you forgot. Yeah, that happens. Tends to like,
- 24:23Speaker 1: you know, the filibusters. Let me say one more so.
- 24:27Speaker 1: When Paul mentioned deebo Um, I thought about the press
- 24:31Speaker 1: conference from yesterday about how they're not going to trade him, right,
- 24:35Speaker 1: But now I'm like, what if, you know, Friday morning
- 24:38Speaker 1: rolls around and they do trade him. And also they're
- 24:41Speaker 1: still Baker Mayfield out there that could come in as
- 24:44Speaker 1: a trade too, And so I'm like, oh, yeah, busy week,
- 24:47Speaker 1: get ready. I feel like there are going to be
- 24:49Speaker 1: some picks that shake that are really shake things up,
- 24:52Speaker 1: trades that could shake things up that like that would
- 24:54Speaker 1: be a monumental trade. I could see Debo getting traded.
- 24:57Speaker 1: You could even though they just said yesterday they're not. Yeah, yeah, no,
- 25:00Speaker 1: I see as Jimmy Brant likes to say, translation is
- 25:04Speaker 1: make me your best. I'm not giving them away. It's
- 25:06Speaker 1: not to me. It's not about the forty nine is
- 25:09Speaker 1: refusing to trade. It's about another team willing to give
- 25:11Speaker 1: them what they're they want. Um, is there a team
- 25:15Speaker 1: out there that will do that? Maybe? But would you
- 25:18Speaker 1: give them a first round pick? Absolutely? I mean I
- 25:21Speaker 1: think if you're San Francisco you have to think long
- 25:22Speaker 1: and hard about that. Yeah. I would give them a
- 25:25Speaker 1: first round pick for Deebo Samuel. And then of course
- 25:27Speaker 1: you have to pay them, and you'd have to sign
- 25:29Speaker 1: them right away because you don't want to for just
- 25:31Speaker 1: one more year. You want to do that long term deal.
- 25:34Speaker 1: So you know, you you wrapped them up, it's gonna
- 25:36Speaker 1: be huge, huge money, huge money. Do you think that
- 25:40Speaker 1: that that this is derivative? I guess in a way
- 25:44Speaker 1: of Brady kind of Brady starting this, a little bit
- 25:47Speaker 1: of guys picking their teams and you know, and now
- 25:49Speaker 1: it just feels like a J. Brown debo. You're getting
- 25:52Speaker 1: guys that put up a couple good seasons and then
- 25:55Speaker 1: they're like, pay me right now? Is this going to change?
- 25:59Speaker 1: Think that's a question. Great pursue, especially with the important
- 26:02Speaker 1: I mean, if we've always had guys hold out for
- 26:06Speaker 1: for contracts and all that stuff, but I think now
- 26:09Speaker 1: with social media, you know, they have a voice, they
- 26:12Speaker 1: have a forum to just say this stuff and and
- 26:15Speaker 1: get it out there. And you know, you've, like you
- 26:17Speaker 1: we've always had it, but now I think, you know,
- 26:21Speaker 1: you just they have more power now. I think they do.
- 26:25Speaker 1: And I do think the social media is probably part
- 26:28Speaker 1: of it, because what does a guy do when he's
- 26:29Speaker 1: start following everybody changing? Yeah? Right right? Which sub team
- 26:37Speaker 1: for sale? You scrub your team off of all of
- 26:39Speaker 1: your social media accounts. That's that's that's hold out one
- 26:42Speaker 1: on one. Yeah, you know, I no longer have the
- 26:45Speaker 1: Cardinals and my Kyler Murray. I'm no longer having the
- 26:48Speaker 1: Cardinals on my social media counts. So they do have
- 26:51Speaker 1: some power I think in that regard. But I really
- 26:55Speaker 1: am interested in if Mike is onto something with is
- 26:59Speaker 1: this a trend because I know, like everybody's well nowadays,
- 27:03Speaker 1: you know what happened when Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill
- 27:08Speaker 1: and Stefan Digg signed these big contracts. What was the
- 27:11Speaker 1: response by the you know, the NFL national guys, Well
- 27:14Speaker 1: you gotta if you want to find these receivers, you
- 27:16Speaker 1: better draft them. You need to have cheap receivers. Look
- 27:19Speaker 1: the look where the salaries are going. Right, You draft
- 27:21Speaker 1: a guy, you got them for four or five years,
- 27:23Speaker 1: Well not anymore, you don't. You go to get them
- 27:25Speaker 1: for two years. Once the receiver realizes, okay, I can
- 27:28Speaker 1: do that. Once I get in year three, I'm gonna,
- 27:30Speaker 1: you know, step my feet and look to get out
- 27:32Speaker 1: of here. And you can't play. I'm out, and and
- 27:35Speaker 1: and you know, when you talk about power, it kind
- 27:37Speaker 1: of reminds me of a tweet that Florio had a
- 27:40Speaker 1: couple days ago um where he says that, in his opinion,
- 27:45Speaker 1: the draft is un American, you know, because it's it
- 27:49Speaker 1: actually limits guys to what they can do and takes
- 27:52Speaker 1: the power away from these players, you know. And there's
- 27:56Speaker 1: something to that. You know. I've always thought, you know,
- 27:58Speaker 1: like I had, I don't like the whole the worst,
- 28:01Speaker 1: the first drafting. I think the draft should be a
- 28:04Speaker 1: lottery every year, you know, and regardless of where you
- 28:08Speaker 1: finished last year, you could have the number one pick.
- 28:11Speaker 1: It's a pure lottery every year. But you know, that's
- 28:14Speaker 1: that's another discussion. But his his thing is why should
- 28:17Speaker 1: someone going into the workforce not have a choice of
- 28:20Speaker 1: where they want to work? Oh yeah, that's that's fair,
- 28:23Speaker 1: especially because I mean, look at Trevor Lawrence, like coming
- 28:26Speaker 1: out barely loses a college game in his career, and
- 28:30Speaker 1: then now he lost almost every single game, right, So
- 28:34Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, yeah, I don't know. I think every
- 28:37Speaker 1: team in the league should have a chance to get players.
- 28:39Speaker 1: But they would, No, they wouldn't. Why not if you
- 28:42Speaker 1: if you didn't have a draft and you just signed
- 28:45Speaker 1: the team you want to sign for who's signing with Jacksonville?
- 28:48Speaker 1: What if you harden the cap a little bit? So
- 28:50Speaker 1: like Jerry Jones, can't just take the pick of the
- 28:52Speaker 1: litter every year, you know what I mean? You could
- 28:55Speaker 1: play a way to do that. No, but I'm serious,
- 28:57Speaker 1: But guys don't want to play if you've given it
- 28:59Speaker 1: all to the player, the players have all the power. Now, Yeah,
- 29:02Speaker 1: they're not signing with those teams. I don't know. Maybe
- 29:06Speaker 1: they you know, if the team makes the offer good enough,
- 29:10Speaker 1: I think it would force the teams to become more competitive,
- 29:12Speaker 1: higher better coaches. You know, I don't know, that's the problem.
- 29:18Speaker 1: I mean We're all supposed to be about competition, right,
- 29:21Speaker 1: So doesn't that create more competition? No, it eliminates it.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I know what you're saying. On You're you're saying it
- 29:28Speaker 1: eliminates it because it keeps the bad teams bad. Right, No,
- 29:31Speaker 1: well it could, but the reverse thing is it could
- 29:35Speaker 1: force the bad teams to get their blank together? Does
- 29:39Speaker 1: is that? Baseball's kind of I mean with the luxury
- 29:41Speaker 1: attacks in Jacksonville. Jacksonville isn't bad because it's in Jacksonville.
- 29:45Speaker 1: It's bad because it has bad leadership. Yeah, but how
- 29:48Speaker 1: does that change get better leadership? What do you think
- 29:51Speaker 1: they're not trying to do that? Now? It's not major
- 29:53Speaker 1: League Baseball where half the teams are spending like a
- 29:56Speaker 1: tenth of what the other teams have been. They're all
- 29:58Speaker 1: spending roughly the same amount of money. Well they're not.
- 30:00Speaker 1: They're not. They're not poorly led on purpose. Well I know,
- 30:03Speaker 1: but then the fans can like the Kansas City Royals
- 30:06Speaker 1: are poor, the Oakland As are poor because that's what
- 30:09Speaker 1: they want. It's by design, I know. So if you
- 30:11Speaker 1: could change the rules in Major League Baseball, that would
- 30:13Speaker 1: make sense. In football, the Jacksonville Jaguars don't have poor
- 30:18Speaker 1: leadership because they don't want a good leader. They thought
- 30:21Speaker 1: they had a good leader in Urban Meyer. If they
- 30:23Speaker 1: were wrong. Right now they think they have another good leader.
- 30:25Speaker 1: We'll see if they're right or not. Okay, and then
- 30:27Speaker 1: maybe the next time maybe, you know, if they're right,
- 30:31Speaker 1: then they'll be a more attractive place for a player
- 30:34Speaker 1: to go to. You know. But there will always be
- 30:36Speaker 1: teams that aren't attractive to go to and they won't
- 30:38Speaker 1: get players. But why are they not attractive because they lose?
- 30:43Speaker 1: I know, but see it's like the chicken and the
- 30:45Speaker 1: egg type of thing. You know, they're small market teams.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Wouldn't just think about her from an individual player point
- 30:53Speaker 1: of view. If you were coming out of college and
- 30:55Speaker 1: you know, I'm a I'm a pro football player, I
- 30:57Speaker 1: probably have five years, why would you ever choose to
- 31:01Speaker 1: go to a team that sucks well because there's an
- 31:04Speaker 1: open job. I can't go to the best teams because
- 31:07Speaker 1: they already have Patrick Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers or Tom
- 31:10Speaker 1: there's no job there. But there's enough teams that don't
- 31:12Speaker 1: have Aaron Rodgers that you can go to that don't suck. Right,
- 31:15Speaker 1: But eventually you know, eventually we'll get the twenty seventh
- 31:20Speaker 1: best player, and hopefully he'll end up being better than
- 31:23Speaker 1: half of the guys that we thought were better than that.
- 31:25Speaker 1: I'm not throwing that's the only way that to get better.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I'm not throwing the concept out. I think it's stupid out,
- 31:31Speaker 1: you know, but it's florio So what do you expect? No,
- 31:33Speaker 1: it's I don't think it is stupid. I don't really
- 31:35Speaker 1: don't think it's stupid. You know, I listen. I don't
- 31:38Speaker 1: think it's flawless, but I think there is something to
- 31:41Speaker 1: say about a player having be able to control his
- 31:46Speaker 1: own fate, his own destiny. I don't agree. Okay, all right,
- 31:49Speaker 1: you know what you make that sacrifice with a multimillion
- 31:52Speaker 1: dollar contract that you sign, that's part of the sacrifices
- 31:55Speaker 1: you make most you know, Tom Dick and Harry coming
- 31:58Speaker 1: out of college. Yeah, I can pick anywhere I want
- 32:00Speaker 1: to work, but I ain't making that kind of money. Yea,
- 32:02Speaker 1: on my first contract, my first job. Yeah. I like
- 32:06Speaker 1: the draft. I like the draft. I mean, I think
- 32:08Speaker 1: the draft is as American as it gets. I think
- 32:10Speaker 1: the draft is equal for all the teams to have
- 32:14Speaker 1: a chance to improve in all sports. It's different. Sports
- 32:17Speaker 1: are different. I hate when people compare sports to real life.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Yeah it's not the same. No, it's true. Yeah, Eric
- 32:23Speaker 1: walked in at a great time. Yeah, it's always always.
- 32:26Speaker 1: But I don't I don't dismay it. Should have their
- 32:29Speaker 1: ability to go to any team they want. They shouldn't
- 32:31Speaker 1: be drafted. I don't. I don't dismiss the I don't
- 32:34Speaker 1: dismiss I know, I free for all. Like well, he
- 32:38Speaker 1: just saying that, you know, there's very few other places
- 32:41Speaker 1: in America where you're forced to go, you know, upon
- 32:44Speaker 1: graduation or whatever to a certain place. You know. Yeah,
- 32:49Speaker 1: but I mean to I just heard Paul's the end
- 32:52Speaker 1: of what he was saying there. But like it, sports
- 32:55Speaker 1: is different. It is different than the real world in
- 32:57Speaker 1: many ways. I mean, they're you know, they have a
- 33:00Speaker 1: lot of exemptions when it comes to monopolies and all
- 33:02Speaker 1: that stuff, you know, so they can operate a different way.
- 33:05Speaker 1: But I don't dismiss it the notion that, you know,
- 33:10Speaker 1: maybe another way. I'm just trying to play this out
- 33:13Speaker 1: in my head here. So upon graduation, you've got what
- 33:16Speaker 1: three four hundred prospects who are legitimate NFL candidates, right yeah,
- 33:22Speaker 1: and you know of them want to go to the
- 33:26Speaker 1: most recent Super Bowl champions teams, right, yeah, So what
- 33:30Speaker 1: happens to the what happens to the They have to
- 33:33Speaker 1: get better? Well, the teams that are allussed, right, they
- 33:36Speaker 1: have to be you'd have to changels. You know, you
- 33:39Speaker 1: wouldn't have the ninety man roster. You'd have to have,
- 33:42Speaker 1: you know, a cap on roster. So if you are,
- 33:45Speaker 1: if you're no, but if you're if you're the Kansas
- 33:48Speaker 1: City Chiefs, right yeah, if you take on a player, right,
- 33:51Speaker 1: you just can't take on unlimited players. You have to
- 33:54Speaker 1: get rid of a player. That's what if you have
- 33:58Speaker 1: if you have Kelly see right, yeah, you can. You
- 34:02Speaker 1: can bring on as many tight ends as you want.
- 34:04Speaker 1: But if I'm a tight end, am I gonna beat
- 34:05Speaker 1: out Kelsey? I want to go someplace where I'm gonna play, right,
- 34:09Speaker 1: So maybe you go to the Bills instead. Okay, but
- 34:13Speaker 1: eventually the Bills are good, you know, eventually, this is
- 34:15Speaker 1: my point, you go to another good team, but you
- 34:17Speaker 1: Mike pick in Jackson film. My point is there is
- 34:20Speaker 1: enough good players to go around. You know. That's funny.
- 34:23Speaker 1: It doesn't seem like I mean, there's some teams that
- 34:26Speaker 1: are really bad. People say that, well, first round picks
- 34:28Speaker 1: in this draft. I don't know if there's enough good
- 34:30Speaker 1: players to go around. Well, it sounds like college. I mean,
- 34:33Speaker 1: it sounds like you're gonna sign your letter of intent
- 34:35Speaker 1: to play for the Bengals and you know, I'm gonna decommit. Actually,
- 34:38Speaker 1: because they're gonna sign this guy, I'm gonna go. Yeah,
- 34:40Speaker 1: because that's that's Seges. Now, it's a great comp Now
- 34:44Speaker 1: they have some transfer portal. Yeah. So, so do you
- 34:47Speaker 1: think guys go to like Coastal Carolina and UT San
- 34:50Speaker 1: Antonio by choice or that Ohio State in Alabama weren't interested. Yeah,
- 34:56Speaker 1: more likely that's the case. Right, Well, then, no, that's true.
- 35:00Speaker 1: It's absolutely not to say that guys from Coastal Carolina
- 35:02Speaker 1: or but that's it's a smaller I mentioned those two
- 35:06Speaker 1: schools specifically for a reason. One Fred brought up a
- 35:08Speaker 1: guy from UT San Antonio earlier, a cornerback who is
- 35:13Speaker 1: probably a Day two pick, and another guy another EVERYT
- 35:16Speaker 1: High school products EVERYT High is having a good year
- 35:18Speaker 1: in the draft this year, Isaiah likely from Coast I
- 35:23Speaker 1: kind of even confirm what time I may Or may
- 35:25Speaker 1: not have played with him, but he's he's a tight
- 35:31Speaker 1: end out of Coastal Carolina. Isaiah likely who's another you
- 35:33Speaker 1: know quality. They're good players at all these different schools
- 35:37Speaker 1: and Jacksonville just like now, they have good players. They
- 35:40Speaker 1: just haven't been able to find a way to win.
- 35:42Speaker 1: They don't have enough good players. And that's certainly not
- 35:45Speaker 1: going to be a solution to get more good players there.
- 35:48Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be hard to do that. Every
- 35:49Speaker 1: team's gonna have a guy who comes out of nowhere
- 35:52Speaker 1: and emerges. But I don't think you can make a
- 35:55Speaker 1: team out of guys that you're hoping they consistent, not
- 35:59Speaker 1: consistently anyway. So I have a speaking of things that
- 36:02Speaker 1: the NFL may or may not do in the future,
- 36:05Speaker 1: changes they may make. I was reading in Peter King's
- 36:09Speaker 1: It's tolum yesterday. Um, the NFL is going to do.
- 36:14Speaker 1: It's whether or not it's this year or next year.
- 36:16Speaker 1: It's going to happen games on Black Friday. You have
- 36:20Speaker 1: you read this. Not only that, but um, now they're
- 36:22Speaker 1: going to have games on Christmas. Yea, the triple header
- 36:27Speaker 1: on Christmas. Please don't be us. Yeah, there's there was
- 36:33Speaker 1: going to be a triple header on Christmas. But they
- 36:36Speaker 1: they've thought about the idea of a Friday game and
- 36:39Speaker 1: it would be probably like a four thirty game. That's
- 36:43Speaker 1: interesting because college happening Friday. That's why it would have
- 36:47Speaker 1: to be in a particular win Oh yeah, okay, yeah, yeah,
- 36:51Speaker 1: I think when you said Black Friday, in my mind,
- 36:53Speaker 1: I was thinking Good Friday, Like, why would they target
- 36:56Speaker 1: good Friday games? Yeah? I don't. I would not like that.
- 37:05Speaker 1: I would not like that personally because that like Black Friday,
- 37:08Speaker 1: and like Thanksgiving, that's like college football rivalry games. So
- 37:12Speaker 1: everyone's watching, like Auburn, like, everyone's watching those games. That's
- 37:17Speaker 1: the tradition and that's what I grew up. Right, Thanksgiving
- 37:20Speaker 1: Day is your NFL day. Yeah, you've got And they
- 37:23Speaker 1: added the triple header for Thanksgiving, so you've got your
- 37:25Speaker 1: full feast pardon the pun on Thanksgiving of NFL. Leave
- 37:29Speaker 1: Friday for the college game. Yeah, that's what the college
- 37:31Speaker 1: game is about. And Saturday too. You got package can
- 37:38Speaker 1: we put together to make? I would that in hand
- 37:42Speaker 1: as money? Come on? Yeah? But yeah, I think the
- 37:46Speaker 1: Christmas thing was only because it falls on the Sunday
- 37:48Speaker 1: this year. Yeah, I don't think it's going to be
- 37:50Speaker 1: a yearly. That's not how I understood. I don't think.
- 37:52Speaker 1: I don't think there was just because it happened to
- 37:54Speaker 1: fall on a Sunday that not you know, like Christmas
- 37:56Speaker 1: is the new Thanksgiving for football six, with all due
- 38:00Speaker 1: respect to Christmas. I was thinking of that when I
- 38:02Speaker 1: saw that yesterday. So this is actually my birthday, so
- 38:04Speaker 1: I would Christmas that sticks yet, Yeah, It's it's interesting.
- 38:11Speaker 1: I always get people look at my ID, they're like, wow,
- 38:15Speaker 1: so did you get double presents or did you get
- 38:17Speaker 1: you know, right, just a short end of the stick.
- 38:19Speaker 1: And I'm like, when I was growing up, my silone
- 38:22Speaker 1: didn't understand why I got more gifts. So then they
- 38:24Speaker 1: started to separate my gifts my Birthday and Christmas gifts.
- 38:28Speaker 1: So in the morning I would open just Christmas gifts
- 38:30Speaker 1: with my siblings, and then at night, when there was
- 38:33Speaker 1: Birthday cake, that's when I would get my birthday gifts.
- 38:35Speaker 1: So they started to understand the separate. Okay, so you
- 38:38Speaker 1: did get more gifts, yes, yeah, okay, all right, more
- 38:41Speaker 1: in that like not like they'd get birthday everyday, but
- 38:45Speaker 1: just on that day you get more. Yes, yes, So
- 38:48Speaker 1: the Patriots get a game on Christmas this year, no
- 38:50Speaker 1: one's gonna be more mad than you, because you're gonna
- 38:51Speaker 1: be like, it's my birthday, Christmas and I'm here, right, Yeah,
- 38:56Speaker 1: respect to Christmas. Yeah, thanks, thanks Joe. Yeah, and he's
- 39:00Speaker 1: here now. I have no problem with it at whatsoever.
- 39:03Speaker 1: No disrespected. Tomorrow, I'll play it all right. Five five
- 39:09Speaker 1: pass five hundred is the ACE ticket hotline. Web radio
- 39:12Speaker 1: at patriot dot com is the email address. We got
- 39:14Speaker 1: people emailing, we got them calling in, so uh, let's
- 39:18Speaker 1: not let them wait anymore. We'll start with Richard and Charlotte.
- 39:21Speaker 1: What's up Richard? Good for him? Hey, guys, how we
- 39:24Speaker 1: doing good? What? This phone call is a long time coming.
- 39:30Speaker 1: I've been listening to you for twenty one years. Yeah,
- 39:35Speaker 1: I'd emailed a couple of times because part apparently didn't
- 39:38Speaker 1: like those. It's not a matter of like or not like.
- 39:40Speaker 1: There's just so many maybe in ability to read it
- 39:43Speaker 1: just didn't stand out, but you know, keep trying. Yeah. So, uh,
- 39:49Speaker 1: general thought about this week and then the topic for conversation.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Generally speaking, this week follows the same track pattern for
- 39:58Speaker 1: me every time. I'm total excitement, enthusiasm, like a kid
- 40:03Speaker 1: waiting for Christmas. Then the pick or trait comes and
- 40:07Speaker 1: I go full Eric. I'm li of it, and then
- 40:12Speaker 1: I go full Fred and start talking myself into it.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Last year was the one outlier on that. Yeah, but
- 40:21Speaker 1: you know we've got we have so many needs this
- 40:24Speaker 1: year at almost every position, and I'm really thinking we
- 40:30Speaker 1: need to go corner on that first pick. But generally
- 40:36Speaker 1: what I'm seeing, and I'm no draft expert, and generally
- 40:39Speaker 1: what i'm seeing there's there's no real quality outside coverage guys,
- 40:47Speaker 1: and I do not want another slot guy. I know
- 40:52Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones is probably not long on the patch, but um,
- 40:57Speaker 1: just wanted to get your thoughts on coverage guys. Yeah,
- 41:00Speaker 1: we're not going straight out of no. I mean the
- 41:05Speaker 1: closest guy and he's probably not going to be available,
- 41:08Speaker 1: thanks Richard. Um. He's probably definitely not gonna be avail
- 41:11Speaker 1: at twenty one. But the closest guy that I've read
- 41:15Speaker 1: who can just mirror a guy as Stingley. Yeah, you
- 41:18Speaker 1: know he's true, Yeah, very good, like he I would
- 41:20Speaker 1: take him, yeah, heartbeat like he's He's one of the
- 41:23Speaker 1: guys that they say just step for step. He can
- 41:27Speaker 1: he can be in a guy's pocket. That's rare. That's
- 41:29Speaker 1: rare to find guys that can really do that. You know, Yeah, no,
- 41:33Speaker 1: it's uh, that's fair. I mean, you know, I think
- 41:35Speaker 1: Sauce is up there too. I mean, these Sauces is
- 41:38Speaker 1: really good. He's really good. But I mean after those
- 41:40Speaker 1: couple of guys, you have gardener questions off. You know,
- 41:43Speaker 1: are these you know, into the Patriots even still want
- 41:46Speaker 1: long outside matchup corners? Is that what they're is that
- 41:49Speaker 1: where they're going or not? Is um? But I think
- 41:52Speaker 1: you know, between Booth and McDuffie that you know, there's
- 41:55Speaker 1: some options in that little range that that could fit.
- 41:58Speaker 1: But I just I don't think that they're gonna They're
- 42:00Speaker 1: not Reevs, They're not Gilmore, it's not one of those guys.
- 42:03Speaker 1: They're they're very good football players. They're smart, um, they're
- 42:06Speaker 1: all tough and tackle well. But you know, I don't
- 42:08Speaker 1: know if any of them are ever going to be
- 42:10Speaker 1: shut down number one corners. And so I get it.
- 42:14Speaker 1: That's why when you get to twenty one, you're like, yeah,
- 42:16Speaker 1: that guy's pretty good. That guy's pretty good. There's nobody like, yeah,
- 42:19Speaker 1: that's what they need. This guy's consistently there. He fits
- 42:21Speaker 1: really well, he's a slam dunk. It's it's all over
- 42:24Speaker 1: the place right now. Yeah, I do like Booth, but
- 42:26Speaker 1: I also am not a huge and it's gonna be
- 42:31Speaker 1: like I'm picking on Mike, but this is something that's
- 42:33Speaker 1: really gotten a lot of steam over the last half
- 42:37Speaker 1: of the year. When the Patriots started playing zone last year. Yeah,
- 42:41Speaker 1: so now we don't need you know, they don't need
- 42:42Speaker 1: any cornerbacks that can play man right, because you know
- 42:45Speaker 1: you're never gonna play Man again, right, Like I just
- 42:48Speaker 1: think if you find guys that have the physicality can
- 42:51Speaker 1: play Man, you play man right, and then you adapt
- 42:54Speaker 1: to zone right, you know. And I know that Gilmore
- 42:56Speaker 1: struggle doing that. Gilmore is a press man covered guy,
- 43:00Speaker 1: and the first year here, the first half of the year,
- 43:03Speaker 1: he had some problems in zones. But I think that
- 43:06Speaker 1: would have worked itself out. Yeah, I think he was
- 43:08Speaker 1: too good of a player to struggle the way he did.
- 43:10Speaker 1: I think that was a lot of factors. Zone was
- 43:12Speaker 1: one of them, but I think there were a lot
- 43:14Speaker 1: of factors involved in that. And I agree with Mike.
- 43:17Speaker 1: I don't think there's a guy that I that I
- 43:19Speaker 1: identify at twenty one and saying this guy's going to
- 43:21Speaker 1: be special. That's why they're available at twenty one, right,
- 43:24Speaker 1: you know, like I think Derek Stingley can be special,
- 43:27Speaker 1: but I don't think he'll be available. No, But I
- 43:31Speaker 1: mean I understand the idea behind a corner, and I
- 43:33Speaker 1: think that that what he said was was right. They
- 43:36Speaker 1: they that that's a high priority position. Yeah, I just
- 43:38Speaker 1: think I like going defense. I just think you're gonna
- 43:42Speaker 1: have more quality picks at linebacker at twenty one, and
- 43:46Speaker 1: I think that's where they'll go, like like the inside
- 43:50Speaker 1: guys like Dean and Yeah and Lloyd. Yeah. I mean
- 43:55Speaker 1: I agree with everything you know Paul laid out. I
- 43:58Speaker 1: just I think in the past they are so aggressive
- 44:01Speaker 1: about getting those kind of corners. It just seemed like
- 44:04Speaker 1: such a priority for them to make sure that the
- 44:06Speaker 1: cupboards were stocked with those guys. And I mean I
- 44:09Speaker 1: think even show you know, Joan Williams was you know, like,
- 44:13Speaker 1: I mean, it hasn't worked out, but I think he's
- 44:15Speaker 1: that kind of guy like maybe Elam from Florida of
- 44:18Speaker 1: al right, a guy with some size, some length, who
- 44:20Speaker 1: can you know, line up. But I just the game
- 44:23Speaker 1: is changing and I think that's the biggest thing for me,
- 44:25Speaker 1: is that you really had no answers the last month
- 44:28Speaker 1: of the season defensively, So how much are you going
- 44:31Speaker 1: to change? What are you going to change? And I
- 44:34Speaker 1: think with how they haven't really touched the defensive front
- 44:36Speaker 1: much at all here in free agency, I think that
- 44:40Speaker 1: the changes will be signaled by who they draft and
- 44:42Speaker 1: and I just there's not a lot of options in
- 44:44Speaker 1: terms of the cornerbacks to continue to fill that mold.
- 44:47Speaker 1: So I don't know if that signifies the biggest changes,
- 44:49Speaker 1: but I think, you know, if they get a defensive
- 44:52Speaker 1: end an edge guy, that that could maybe tell you
- 44:54Speaker 1: a little bit. Let's go to Melvin and tennessee what's
- 44:57Speaker 1: up Melvin. Hey, Hey, I got a simple question. Um
- 45:04Speaker 1: so I really want so for Fred Fred you said
- 45:07Speaker 1: several times and maybe Lawya malloy when he was talking
- 45:10Speaker 1: about Bill a long time ago, saying how simplistic he
- 45:13Speaker 1: makes things, I know exactly what I'm doing, et cetera,
- 45:16Speaker 1: et cetera. Do you have any more like recent examples
- 45:20Speaker 1: of a player that says that you know things here
- 45:24Speaker 1: are a little bit simplistic. Because I've always wondered you
- 45:27Speaker 1: are to go back to that. Well, well, I'm gonna
- 45:30Speaker 1: correct he didn't. Lawyer Milloy didn't say it was simplistic.
- 45:33Speaker 1: He said he made it simple to understand. So Bill
- 45:37Speaker 1: takes complex things and makes it easy to understand for
- 45:41Speaker 1: each player to understand what their job is within that system.
- 45:45Speaker 1: And I think that's the genius of Bill. Belichick is
- 45:48Speaker 1: a teacher. He's able to teach this stuff so these
- 45:51Speaker 1: guys can understand it. That was Malloy's point. See, I
- 45:53Speaker 1: would argue a little against that in that I think
- 45:57Speaker 1: Lawyer Milloy was widely regarded as one of the smartest
- 46:00Speaker 1: football players that Bill ever had, no doubt. Bill used
- 46:03Speaker 1: to say it all the time. I think you'd find
- 46:05Speaker 1: similar things where he says about Randy Moss one of
- 46:07Speaker 1: the smartest football, got football smart players they've ever had.
- 46:11Speaker 1: So it's no surprise that these are guys that found
- 46:14Speaker 1: the message that Bill was giving simple. Yeah, but it's
- 46:16Speaker 1: because I think they were at an intellectual level football wise,
- 46:19Speaker 1: that was a lot higher than But but he he
- 46:22Speaker 1: sees what Bill is saying to everybody else too, and
- 46:24Speaker 1: he's been with other coaches. He sees the difference. He
- 46:28Speaker 1: can see the difference don't know, I'm saying they're wrong.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Bill is Bill is able to break it down into
- 46:33Speaker 1: the lowest common denominators and you know them. It's yeah,
- 46:37Speaker 1: it was very easily digestible to Lawyer Mill. Yeah. And
- 46:40Speaker 1: it's not just Lawyer. I've heard recent guys say the
- 46:42Speaker 1: same thing where I heard a lot of confusion last
- 46:46Speaker 1: year and the difference. You know, you know what you're
- 46:48Speaker 1: supposed to do, and if you do it more often
- 46:51Speaker 1: than not, we're successful. You know. Yeah, Well, I mean
- 46:55Speaker 1: I think the example is too is it's it's it's
- 46:57Speaker 1: what the team needs to do to win the game.
- 47:00Speaker 1: And that's and these that's been arguable, you know, And
- 47:02Speaker 1: that's and I think the good example was, you know,
- 47:04Speaker 1: done in the two thousand and nine Coaching Life against
- 47:07Speaker 1: the Jets where you know they edited it and and
- 47:09Speaker 1: Noel Paul Loosis when who works out exactly like but
- 47:12Speaker 1: he's saying, these are the three things that we have
- 47:14Speaker 1: to do. So I mean that's really where I go.
- 47:16Speaker 1: It's not so much schematically what but it's it's but
- 47:18Speaker 1: it's what the team needs to do. But then what
- 47:20Speaker 1: you need to do within that how to get the
- 47:23Speaker 1: team to do Everybody has a job to do within
- 47:26Speaker 1: that overall game plan of that week, you know. And
- 47:29Speaker 1: I've heard players say, you know that's been on the teams.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Wednesday is an exciting day here because you get the
- 47:34Speaker 1: game plan for the opponent and it's you know, invariably
- 47:37Speaker 1: it's different from week to week. Oh, they're definitely a
- 47:40Speaker 1: game plan team. I don't think there's anybody that would
- 47:42Speaker 1: argue that. Yeah, yeah, it's different for me because I see,
- 47:47Speaker 1: like you know, at the end of the day, has
- 47:49Speaker 1: a lot of new coaches. You got a lot of
- 47:51Speaker 1: new changes going around last year, and I've seen people,
- 47:54Speaker 1: you know, before the snap pointing looking around whether it's
- 47:57Speaker 1: just like me is the same or where you just is.
- 48:01Speaker 1: It is a small amount of people that understand things
- 48:04Speaker 1: and the grandest scheme of people more confused, especially nowadays.
- 48:08Speaker 1: It's just I don't know, yeah, and I think I
- 48:11Speaker 1: think it's mostly defense offense. I'm not sure if Bill's
- 48:16Speaker 1: the same type of teacher on offense that he has
- 48:19Speaker 1: on defense. I don't know that. And you gotta have
- 48:21Speaker 1: guys who can execute, guys who can do it, you know.
- 48:24Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's the point I'm trying because Bill
- 48:28Speaker 1: always told us how Y molloy was at an intellectual
- 48:31Speaker 1: level far above most. Yeah, no disrespect to the defensive players,
- 48:35Speaker 1: but tackling and running is a little different than catching
- 48:39Speaker 1: the ball and throwing the ball. It's a different you know.
- 48:43Speaker 1: It's like, you know, go to the Buffalo game. It's
- 48:45Speaker 1: like it didn't matter what they were doing. They couldn't
- 48:48Speaker 1: win the little things. They couldn't win the line of scrimmage.
- 48:50Speaker 1: They were getting pushed around like that. Those things, It's
- 48:52Speaker 1: just that doesn't even matter if you have all right, well,
- 48:54Speaker 1: we can't let the tight end score touch you know,
- 48:56Speaker 1: those kind of specific things that he kind of drills
- 48:59Speaker 1: down on. I always thought were tackling. It was that official.
- 49:03Speaker 1: There was no file on the play. The player defender
- 49:05Speaker 1: was simply over. Marx and Bolton. What's up? Mark Um?
- 49:10Speaker 1: Hi guys Um recovering from abdominal surgery here in my hospital,
- 49:15Speaker 1: said but oh wow, it's good. Yeah, all good? Okay,
- 49:18Speaker 1: and we were the first call. You're good. Everything's good.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Hopefully the time passed for time? Will you be available
- 49:25Speaker 1: for training care? I will be available for training care. Okay, good, okay,
- 49:30Speaker 1: So that does not affect my seven round mock good, No,
- 49:34Speaker 1: I'm good, excellent for usual, I'm gonna go something a
- 49:38Speaker 1: little bit contrarian here. What the heck? Um mac role
- 49:42Speaker 1: recently said, if you want an impact receiver, you're gonna
- 49:46Speaker 1: have to go up and get them. So, you know,
- 49:50Speaker 1: as recently as a few days ago, Jamison Williams was
- 49:54Speaker 1: looking to still be available at eleven or twelve. I
- 49:58Speaker 1: just saw today we're Atlanta my one at eight, so
- 50:00Speaker 1: that would kill this whole thing. But anyway, at eleven
- 50:04Speaker 1: or twelve, would we trade number twenty one, number fifty
- 50:09Speaker 1: four and number one eighty one for the player? And
- 50:13Speaker 1: I say yes, because let's find our cornerback guard, edge
- 50:19Speaker 1: insidelnebacker in rounds three, four, five, sixty seven and we
- 50:25Speaker 1: finally have a vertical offense by November two. Given up
- 50:29Speaker 1: a lot of assets for a guy who probably won't
- 50:31Speaker 1: play until October. November at the earliest didn't seem like
- 50:36Speaker 1: we're giving up fifty fourth So we give up a
- 50:38Speaker 1: second round pick yeast and then like a fourth rounder
- 50:41Speaker 1: to move up ten spots. That doesn't seem like call
- 50:43Speaker 1: that much. Yeah, no, it's not actually a fourth rounder.
- 50:47Speaker 1: It's you're right, it's our first first round or second rounder,
- 50:52Speaker 1: a sixth rounder to get the first round. When you're
- 50:54Speaker 1: switching spots in the first round, you're giving up a
- 50:56Speaker 1: second in a sixth to move up ten spots. Didn't
- 51:00Speaker 1: it cost like last year? Didn't it cost like next
- 51:04Speaker 1: year's first Yeah? Yeah, like I don't think. I don't
- 51:07Speaker 1: have Again, I'm not a draft, but that don't have
- 51:10Speaker 1: the chart in front of me. Would that change it
- 51:11Speaker 1: for you, the Mark? If you had to dip into
- 51:12Speaker 1: next year's first round pick, Well, that's not that. The
- 51:17Speaker 1: hialth chart tells me twenty one fifty one where I
- 51:25Speaker 1: get you, that gets you, that gets you up ten spots. Well,
- 51:29Speaker 1: if that's what, If that's what it equates, then that's
- 51:32Speaker 1: what I mean. It seems like to me. Yeah, just
- 51:35Speaker 1: just thinking about it. But I don't have these value
- 51:37Speaker 1: charts in front of me, and I trust them. I
- 51:39Speaker 1: trust Mark. Yeah, I's done some research. I do like
- 51:42Speaker 1: the idea of moving up because I touched on it
- 51:45Speaker 1: early in the show. I think there's some value to that.
- 51:46Speaker 1: If everybody's looking to move down, Yeah, and people will say,
- 51:50Speaker 1: you know, this guy's a sure thing if the ACL
- 51:54Speaker 1: is right, Yeah, but would you move up for him?
- 51:57Speaker 1: Or would you move up to get sauce or right, Yeah,
- 52:00Speaker 1: if you if you're looking to move up that high.
- 52:02Speaker 1: There's other guys too that can play right away. Yeah,
- 52:05Speaker 1: because I think it'd be hard to find your starting
- 52:07Speaker 1: pass rusher, your starting corner. You know, the other guys
- 52:10Speaker 1: you mentioned yea in those later rounds, I mean a
- 52:12Speaker 1: lot and um, you know most likely Stain you're not
- 52:19Speaker 1: there at twelve and oh yeah, I don't think. I mean,
- 52:23Speaker 1: with the amount of money the Patriots are reportedly going
- 52:25Speaker 1: to have next year in cap I would more be
- 52:29Speaker 1: willing to give away draft assets this next year to
- 52:33Speaker 1: have more picks this year in the first three rounds
- 52:37Speaker 1: so I can get the linebacker, the cornerback, the edge guy,
- 52:40Speaker 1: the wide receiver out next year. Yeah, and then next
- 52:44Speaker 1: year I'm the opposite. I think this draft kind of stinks. Yeah,
- 52:48Speaker 1: thanks Mark, I think I would go if I was
- 52:50Speaker 1: going to go up, I would go up and get
- 52:52Speaker 1: someone on defense. Yeah. Maybe you can find a hidden
- 52:55Speaker 1: gem like a Remander Stevenson and wide receiver later on. Yeah,
- 53:00Speaker 1: I think the likelihood of that is much greater than
- 53:02Speaker 1: finding a hidden gem on defense later on. I don't
- 53:05Speaker 1: know if you covered this while I was absent earlier.
- 53:07Speaker 1: But what do you what do you take with the
- 53:10Speaker 1: trade yesterday and acquiring more picks? Do you think it's
- 53:13Speaker 1: because they want to make more picks or are they
- 53:15Speaker 1: setting themselves up to move I think the only explanation is,
- 53:19Speaker 1: you know, they wanted to be if there's a guy
- 53:21Speaker 1: in the seventh round that they kind of like they'd
- 53:24Speaker 1: rather have the draft pick because they didn't have a
- 53:26Speaker 1: seventh rounder. Now they have one, so they don't have
- 53:28Speaker 1: to get him in on you know, So you think
- 53:30Speaker 1: it's to have a pick, not to not it's just
- 53:33Speaker 1: pile and just to have a pick. I think, yeah,
- 53:35Speaker 1: that's unfortunate. Yeah, because how much is that? Why? What
- 53:38Speaker 1: did you think it was? I was hoping they would
- 53:39Speaker 1: gonna you know, then you just put the little bit
- 53:41Speaker 1: upwardly mobile, well for the first and the seventh. The
- 53:44Speaker 1: people have said that that could be the reason. Yeah,
- 53:46Speaker 1: but wouldn't the extra fifth give you more versatility to
- 53:50Speaker 1: move up than six of the seventh? Maybe? Don't you
- 53:53Speaker 1: hold onto it till the draft and then teams get desperate? Yeah,
- 53:56Speaker 1: and then you say dangle that out in front him. Yeah,
- 53:58Speaker 1: all right, we're gonna take a break. We'll have more
- 54:00Speaker 1: calls and emails right after this, but we gotta eat.

- 1:05:01Speaker 1: it's kind of what they do. I got a lot
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: of respect for your stand up comedy career. I've been
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: able to hop up there and do it. That's have
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: you thought about it? Yeah? You know, it's just something
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: you really I grew up. I could just see Deuce
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: getting up there and kind of like mumbles. You should
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: have seen thee Yeah, that's the stick and he's out
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: there and he's like, what do you say? Chandler Jones.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: Everybody's like and loving HBO's half hour Comedy Hour, Like
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: I just loved. One of my favorite parts of my
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: old job was just going you had to go to
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: comedy shows and so you know, you just go to
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: the improv or a laugh aactory or you know whatever,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: and and you know what, I just I've always do
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: what to search for? Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's got to
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: be good though. Yeah, somebody who's got like I mean
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: There's been a lot of comedians that just gets their
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: own show based on kind of their act. I mean,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: Jerry obviously missed one, but plenty of schlubby dads, well
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: most of them start that. Yeah, a lot of the Yeah,
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: I mean back in the ninth right, that was like
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: the Roman, that was the formula back then. Like you
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: find the comedian, you give him the saving Kevin James
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: and King Queen Paul Reiser. You know, Uh, it's funny
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: though because Gary Shandling. Yeah, it's hard to find Tim
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Allen twenty somethings like that could do that, you know,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: like whenever we do a show, so you think, like
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: everybody goes out there to be an actor in their twenties,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: and oh man, there's just you know, pick every waiter,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: everybody's an actor. But you know, finding those like young
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: That's why I like the guy from How I Met
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: Your Mother, Josh Radner, I think is his name? Like,
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: like that kind of guy really hard to find, like
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: a funny twenty something who can carry a show. You
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: don't know offense. I just saw um. I was saw
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: promos this weekend for um. There's a show for some
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: comedian named Nicky Nicky Glasser. She's got a show coming
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: out called, um, Welcome Home Nicky Glazier or something like
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: that where she's she goes back to her hometown. And
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: I don't I don't know if it's like it's filmed
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: like from the from the trailer on it, it's filmed
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: like a reality show, but I don't know if it's
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: a reality show, if it's actually like a scripted show. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: she's funny. And speaking of her, I mean, I she
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: had one where I think they were like at a
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: party or something, or it might even have been like
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: a show where there was no it wasn't starting, and
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: so she just got up and started making jokes and
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: that was kind of like the start of that's how
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: she got started her career. Random like that. But now
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: I don't know, just to have polished material, to work
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: on it, to know what it is and be like
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: I'm about to talk for it. It really is a craft.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: You just can't go up there and wing it, you know, um,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: unless you're well established and well you know, you might
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: get lucky one night. But these guys work at it,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: you know, and when they work at it, and just
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: the like the you know, sometimes the little follow up
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: throwaway line that's like it seems like they just threw
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: it in there, but that's been refined. They listened back
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: to the to the act and how big of a
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: laugh did it get? I can do better. Sidefo has
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: a book out. It came out maybe a couple of
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: years ago. Um, is this funny? Yeah? And I've been
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: reading it, and you know he would probably be No,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: I don't see not to stand up? Really? Oh god,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: I loved his stand. Love the show too. Loved his
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: stand The one thing that I was kind of slow
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: to warm up to the show because remember an individual
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: at the end, there was always his clips of his
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: of his act, and I did not find him all
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: that funny. Oh I saw him at the Paradise before
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: he was anybody right on commat might be did that
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: make him funny? Because I laughed? I laughed like I was.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: I was laughing at Deuce because you probably never even
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: heard of How I Met Your Mother? Right, Oh, I've
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: heard the show. Okay. I loved that show. It was
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: you know, in terms of my nonsensical sitcoms, it was
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: high on my list. I liked it. The only character
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: on the show I didn't like is the guy that
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: saying how hard it is to all and that the
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: same probably need to keep that great point. He's great point.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: I mean like then you look at Jason Siegel obviously,
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: who went on to be a huge start and and
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: I mean I think you're right. I mean I think
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: he was like Seinfeld was where Seinfeld was kind of
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: the weak length of oh acting. He definitely was the
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: way you had that center guy. He's kind of a
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: straight man sometimes and it's just I always found George
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: and Elaine the show like Kramer was too over the
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: top but so funny. He had some of the has
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: some funny things, but I didn't like to me, he
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: was so ridiculous that I love it when he when
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: he would go into his delusions. Like the MERV. Griffin show,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: Oh no, that's I mean, you can't get better than that,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: But you can't get George and Elane the engine of
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: the show. Yeah, George's erosis and with him everything consistent humor.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: Those two drove everything to me. Yeah, But like the MERV.
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: Griffin the Coffee table Book about coffee, you can't get
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: better than that. The J. Peterman tour, Yes, the bus bus,
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: the bus. He kept making the stops, they kept bringing
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: the right Anyway, we digress the movie phone moment. It
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: showed me the me the movie. You want to watch
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: five five Pats five hundred eight. Hey hold please? So
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: I'm watching on the simulcast here over our shoulder, and
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: NBC Sports Boston has Zoe and Badelon. Yeah, and who
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: is the caller right now? I don't know? Mark and Bolton.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: He just called us your kid cheating on us. Mark,
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: my talk about Jamison Williams said Jamison. Way, at least
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: he called us first. These guys call him bite on
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: my trade idea. Maybe hez wow. I mean he doesn't
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: have much else to do, right, he's in recovery. Yeah,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: oh that's right. He was the one. He's the one
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: abdominal surch right, So I know I feel bad. We
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: should have been like this great trade, amos. Let's do
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: it right now, Mark and Famous, Mark and Bolton. I
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: don't have the stomach for it anyway, But all right,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: eight five five Patch is the a stick and this
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: is what and this is what we're going to have
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: the whole draft. After pun, after pun, let's go to
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: Patty and Agawam. What's up, Patty. Gentlemen, Hey, Patty, So
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: I'm with I know she she left him, but I'm
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: with if. If i'm trading up, I'm trade enough for
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: one of three guys, and they're all on defense. Uh.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: I love Darrell or Derek Stingley Junior or Derek Stingley. Sorry,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: he's a study. He's he's Drell Reeves, he's defan Gilmore
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: where he's in that class if he's healthy and he's
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: motivated to play. I also I love Trent McDuffie. I
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: think he's a gamer. I think he decided as you can,
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: you know, talk about positionless defense. I think they can
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: line him up anywhere. And the other guys, Jordan Davis
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: and I want to get through guy's opinion on probably
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: like a late day two, early day three cornerback to
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: Marie matthis out of it and that's all I got.
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: He got me on that, Okay, I don't know. I
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: already gave you mine wool. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he's a
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: good one six four guy out of San Antonio, Texas adjacent.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: I'm looking for the pit guy he just talked about.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: I don't remember him, Dad, I don't remember him either. Um,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: but I like, I mean, I like the guys he
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: brought up. I think Jordan Davis is an interesting one. Um,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: we mocked him to the Ravens. I feel like he's
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: a raven guy. Yeah, No, I I I feel like
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: the Ravens always take the guys I love the most.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: So that's that's why it's a cornerback. I really like
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: Jordan Davis though, and I mean all the talk about
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: up front needing guys. I mean, he'd go great next
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: to Barmore. I just think on the edges is where
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: you needed a little damar mathis would you write what
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: about I didn't get that fire in my notes. I
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: didn't watch him. Now he was listed originally at five
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: eleven one ninety five and possibility of being a safety
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: um just um, so I don't know. At the bottom
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: line is I don't know anything about the player. I
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: didn't watch him. Um, but could you regurgitate what you
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: read about him? No? I could. Yeah. I mean this
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: is the part where I would just say, you know,
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: he is very speed. But the whole like, there's a
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: lot of buzzwords that are starting to get under my skin.
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: And you know, we talked, we talked about UM one
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: of them earlier when we were talking about the zone
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: and the man, and you know, like the corners positionless defense.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: Now is another one, like why are we looking at
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: guys that Why? Why can't we just have a cornerback
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: that covers the guy that's across the room. Why do
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: we have to chess checkers Paul Chess? What about the
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: U mask guy Bryce Watts? Anybody here of him? I
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: do not know much about him? Nothing. And then there's
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: another guy out of this school. I've never heard of
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: it before. Out cheat a Baptist, Gregory Junior. No, stay
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: out Cheetah Baptists. Never never heard, never heard in school.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: And that's weird. Never heard of Lenora Ryan for me?
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: The guy cutting down trees over here that you printed
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: all of harom A two hundred pages? What printer did
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: you use too? He got the color copier mail cup too, Wow,
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: wasting ink as well. We name our printers here and
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: uh we mail cop one and mail cup too. But
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: don't know why that's call that. But oh, mail room
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: copier do you think, Yeah, that's what it's called. No,
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: it's like a Chippindale strip show mail cop You even
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: have Morrel making fun of you. He's rubbing his head.
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: He's he's dabbing his male mail room copy the village
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: people he he workshopped at him all on his own.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Get a permit to print that, sir. I'm step up
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: against the wall please, Right you guys, I don't know
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: you're you're probably old enough to remember. And Eric, but
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: remember when we were on the other side of the
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: building and next to my office was that big printer. Yes,
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: back in the day was when you had a big job,
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: you had to have shell mus come in and punching
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: a code. Right. Yeah, so she was the man. She
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: was a female could only print out on the I
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: think it was the Fiery pro No, something like that. Yeah,
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: they don't care about all of the stuff that we
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: talked about. They really don't care about copy or talking
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: shots in Baltimore. Heyra shot what they call it? Hey? Hey? First, first,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: I wanted to say, um, I saw you. I saw
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: in my draft. You guys did. Yeah, it's cool. I
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: like Nicobe Dane. I like Nicobe Dane to the Patriots,
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: but I didn't like Yeah, I don't. I don't think.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: I don't think billboard doors because it's it's too good
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: of a pick from the door. Oh I took a
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: turn right though, uh, right before my question. Also, I
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: think Duce retweeted it was the um Drew Blesoe trade. Yeah,
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: but I didn't know. Yeah, I didn't know that you
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: wrote the art. That was kind of crazy. I wrote
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: the article. Oh yeah, the one only. Yeah, Fred, we
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: broke that one. Yeah, that was um the last story week.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: I think somebody had sent an email and I, you know,
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: I was gonna read it, but we might as well
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: get to it now. Thanks for the call for shot.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: What was your favorite draft memory? You know, working here?
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: And that was it because it happened on draft day, right, yeah,
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: and that was we were allowed to break the Drew
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: Bledsoe trade with Buffalo. You know, websites were kind of
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: new and so um, you know that was that was huge.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: I mean, Patriots dot com was went viral, you know
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: on that day because we were the ones that had
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: that news. What were the analytics like at that point?
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Were you just tracking traffic? I mean, was it like
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: the full kitten caboodle of of what analytics is now
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: for website traffic? I imagine it's just visits and yeah,
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: it was just like visits and clicks and yeah, yeah,
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: you know, hard to monetize probably at that point that like, yeah,
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: but you know you want it. It was just about
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: awareness at that point, you know. But that put patriots
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: dot com on the map, you know, video embedded and
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: everything on it. It's and I think so I wrote
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: the article Patriots cyber sideline at that time. Did you
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: say I think I wrote the article on that? Yeah?
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: What do you think? Rashad was just saying? I know,
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: I just I completely forgot when hosts don't listen, I
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: forgot that I wrote the article. Yes, because Brian and
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: I didn't want to get in drugs. Very right. Are
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: you sure about this? You go, you put your name
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: on it. By the way, Brian and god Born one
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: head coach of Sandwich Baseball. Good for Brian. Yeah, they're
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: doing well. Oh man manager starting a program over there. Yeah,
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: Sean's in Vancouver. What's up, Sean pay? I got a
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: few things. So Paula and two thousand in the fifth round,
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: Dave Chelski was taken by the Patriot, Okay, And I
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: also like Kalole Shakira. I I'm just swondering, like he's
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: projected between the fourth and sixth round. So I'm wondering,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: like I think the Patriots don't take a receiver before
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: the fourth round, they'll they'll take him there or do
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: you think they'll they'll try and jobs. I don't know
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: if they like him like like I do, and Tamara
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: obviously does too. Um, but yeah, I would Yeah, makes sense. Now.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: In terms of the NFL, I think they have the
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: economics down. I remember, you know, back in the day,
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: baseball was by far the top sport. It was on
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: you know, all the networks. And then the ninety four
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: strike where the owners wanted to introduce free agency and
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: the I mean they wanted to have Stellar Cup and
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: the players didn't want to do that. Eventually the players
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: want out and that that ruined baseball. You know. You
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: have teams like the Expos that couldn't compete, had to
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: move to Washington and they they landed up, you know,
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: just on ESPN, on secondary networks, and and NFL really
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: took over as the big sport. And I think that's
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: that's part of it. If you don't have the parody
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: that you have in the NFL. Okay, yeah, yeah, I
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: mean I think that's a very minor part of it.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: I think the game has deteriorated greatly over the last
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: fifteen twenty years in terms of time of game and specialization,
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: and it's just not a very entertaining product. I mean,
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: Fred will tell you you know, the three h four
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: Major League Baseball was as high as you can get
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: in terms of enthusiasm excitement with the Red Sox around
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: here and nationally those Red Sox Yankee Series and oh
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: three and O four in the ALCS. I mean, the
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: game isn't the same. The game itself isn't the same,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: and I think that's contributing to why it's no longer
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: you know, even in the conversation. I mean football had
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: already passed it then, but it's no, it's not even
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: in the conversation now. Yeah, I don't know why think
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: though that. I think they're Baseball is on the cusp
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: of a resurgence. I think it's going on now. I
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: think with the changes that they're trying to make, I
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: think it could it could have a little bit of
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: a what are they trying to what are they change? Well,
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: you know, now they some teams can take advantage of
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: the electronic communication between the catcher and the Red Sox.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: Did it Sunday they did it. Yeah, yeah, okay, but
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: they're going to put a pitch clock in to make
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: a picture that work faster, keeping the batters in the
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: batteries they moved. They moved second base in like they're
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: making the basses bigger. They haven't done that yet, which
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: it will shortend distance between the bases. I don't think
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: that's a huge deal, but they need to do something
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: about the way the game is played, and I think
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: it's not going to get fixed because the things that
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: people don't like is the human element is completely eliminated
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: from the game. It's all some you know, Amherst grab
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: telling you what right, you know, this guy hits yeah,
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: that part thinks seventeen point, it's less in the seventh
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: inning on. So we're going to go to this matchup
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: and that you know, and everything is dictated by a book.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: There's no managerial feel. I mean, a pitcher got taken
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: out of the game with a perfect game the other night,
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: because that's what I'm saying, that's what it says on
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: the chart to do. I mean, like God forbid, you
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: should have some excitement and maybe have someone go for
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: a perfect game, which happens. I don't know twenty times
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: in the history of baseball. You know, instead, we'll go
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: with our little binder and make sure that everybody falls
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: asleep before the ninth inning is over. I mean, could
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: you imagine taking out Sandy Kofax working on a perfect
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: game in the sixth inning and it's like Fergie Jenkins
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: tweeted something out like, you know, I could have broken
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: my arm and I wouldn't have come out of the
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: game with a perfect game. Right. Oh yeah, Now the
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: lasting last thing I have is does fine felt his
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: success or or the show's success was. I think a
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: major contributor was the fact that they wouldn't give in
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: to the networks with notes. Like eventually Larry David was
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: kicked out of meetings I either wouldn't allow him in
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: because he was so contrary to what the network was,
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: what NBC was saying. And then even after that, you know,
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: they'd say they'd give notes to Jerry. He said, you know,
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: I can always just go back to stand up. I
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: don't have to do this right, So it like just
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: sticking to that point like it ruined. It ruined like
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: other comedians like m Jeff fox Worthy, another comedian who
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: was like the TV safe funny comedian. With his experience,
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: he thought it was the worst thing in the world
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: because the networks wouldn't even let him in the writing room.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: So I think that's what contributed to what the Signfeld
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: team was able to do what they needed to do. Yeah,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: and you know that first season the show wasn't great.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: I was a big signfol fan, and I watched because
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: I loved him so much, But it wasn't that great.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: Do you remember, Do you remember that it was? It was?
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: I believe, thanks Sean. I think if if my memory's right,
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: it was canceled and brought back. You're right, I believe
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: it was absolutely right. It was a summer like remember
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: when in the old days, when you know, before DVRs
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: and those kind of things. Sweet in the summertime, they
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: would play reruns, but they would have a window for
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: new shows that they were trying out, and Seinfeld was
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: in that that window. One summer was ninety one or
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: ninety two, whatever it was. That's how Beverly Hills nine
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: o one. It was a summer filling. Yeah, Sean's totally right.
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: I mean, then my experience on two and out, man,
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: that's what Chuck Laury did. I mean he didn't take
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: any notes, you know, and the defense on the network
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: what kind of notes they get. But I mean, I
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: think a lot of the best shows come from a
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: visionary kind of person who does their thing and doesn't
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: you know, let a new junior executive give twenty year
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: veteran of television writing a note because he or she
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: didn't get the joke or something like that. Um, the
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: phrase that I always loved, shout out to Alan Kirschenbaum,
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: one of the writers we worked with. Just we'll look
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: at it. Yeah, well, look at That's what they would do.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: They know that the network or the studio come with notes.
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: All right, yeah, yeah, we'll look at that, and then
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: you know, circular fire. Maybe we'll do it, maybe we won't. Uh. Jeffson, Texas,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: what's up? Jeff? Hey, guys, how y'all doing? We're doing? Okay? Excited? Yeah?
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: I got them question about the draft and I want
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: to mention a comment about the show last week, and
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: then something about Malcolm Butler. All right, there's a lineup,
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: go okay, yeah, okay. So I'm for um the Patriots
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: first first round pick, pick twenty one. I've been looking
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: at some of the marks. Um. So my question is, um, first,
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: if if um Olave is still there are twenty one
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: and showing that he might still be there around uh
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: the early twenty spot, would you just grab him or
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: I'm not a big I'm not a huge fan of his.
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: I think he's good, but I don't know. There's other
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: guys that I like. The pencil else is there? I
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: like Alave. I just don't think that wide receiver is
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: at the top of their list. After they get DeVante Parker,
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: I think they're probably I'm with Fred. I think they'll
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: probably go defense. I mean, if if if Alave and
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: Trent McDuffie are there, I'm going with McDuffie. Yeah, you'd
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: rather I know, I know you don't really want to
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: get a wide receiver in the first round. So if
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: they say he was there, would you Um? I did
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: set in a couple of the marks like Dallas or
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: Green Bay may want to trade, uh, swap swap spots
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: in the first round and throw in like a fourth
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: and fifth rounder. Um. Yeah, and it looks like it's
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: still be Yeah, would you go for that? Yeah? Yeah?
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: And I think that's what you know. Tamara laid out
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: how many different directions the draft can go. So when
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: you get to that point in the late teens, early twenties,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: there's a couple of guys there that teams might be
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: in love with, maybe more than the Patriots. And I
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: think that could be you know, potential. I mean, I'd
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: love to pick up an extra you know, trade down five, six,
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: seven picks and then you know, pick up another day
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: two pick. I'd be all for it. Yeah, I agree, Yeah, alright, awesome, Okay.
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: And then on Melcolm Butler, any of you remember reading
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: a I don't know if I read this on like
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: Patriots Wire, but this would be some years ago. Um,
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: like Eric Blunt came up. He mentioned that he thought
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: one of the reasons Malcolm Butler got bench was because
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: you know, he was partying the night before and smoking
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: pot I mean could be I don't Yeah, I don't
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: know if that story with Blunt. But why would he
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: why was he dressed? Why exactly? Why do you wait
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: within the ninety minute window too? Yeah, it doesn't make
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: any sense. It's kind of weird because yeah, he played
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: the first half. But I don't know that I did
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: read that. It might have been on patre I mean
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: that could have happened, and then something else could have
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: happened closer to the game. And Bill said, that's it.
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: I'm just saying, you don't. You don't bench a guy
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: because he was out the night before and have him dressed, right. Yeah,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: but I'm saying. What I'm saying is that that may
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: have happened, but that wasn't the final reason. Obviously. Yeah,
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: that had to have been something. Now, you know, it's
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: it's a fact that he was sick and came late.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: Is that correct? Like that there's a fact that he
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: came late. It's a fact that he came late. I did. Yeah,
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: I think we I think we left on Sunday and
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: he came Monday. I'm not mistaken. So he came late.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: That's a fact that whatever the other part of that
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: is la Garrett Blunt was on the Eagles then too. Yeah,
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: that's true. Just you know, as a point of clarification, like,
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: I'm not sure you right before the game, I wanted
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: to man to recount, but why does he know why,
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: Bill Belichi, You know, like people on the Patriots haven't
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: said publicly, but someone on the Eagles knows why he
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: didn't play. And I haven't seen that story in defensive blunt.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: I haven't seen that quote attributed to him William and Philham.
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: What's up, William? Hey? What's going on for? Right? How
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: are you doing? Good? All right? H question? Okay, So
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: y'all don't want a receiver in the first round? Let
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: me whoa, whoa. I don't mind having a receiver in
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: the first round. I don't think we're gonna have a
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: receiver fall to us. That's first round talent. But if
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: they take a receiver in the first round, I'm not
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: going to be like harrump thing sure you know, okay, Well,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: didn't want one, right, you don't wonder in the first round? Right? Um?
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: I mean I would take Jamison Williams. Um, but I'm
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: not sure. I don't know. I don't love this class.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: I don't love the receiver class, to be honest with you. Okay,
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: all right, I kind of understand that. So, um, just
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: a little just a little bit of push that out, y'all.
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: You know, for who don't want a receiver in the
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: first round, looks you won't have to move up and
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: get what you want if because I'm gonna tell you
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: a lot of the team's gonna push back in the
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: second round. And that's where uh George Pickens MATCHI Uh,
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: guy more than automm gonna be at might not be
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: getting none of them. So it's like, better go get
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: what you need to get now, you know what I mean.
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: It's a lot of teams. I think a lot of
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: team's gonna push, you know, gonna trade back. So I mean,
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: if you see what you want, you know far as receiver, decat, whatever,
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: just you know, just move go get it, because you
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: know we I mean, we had twenty one and we
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: got us pensive Devin Lloyd, you know what I mean.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: So I don't know, I don't know. So you shan't
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: move up in the first round. Move up in the
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: first round to go get a receiver. I mean, if
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: you want you want I mean Bill, if Bill want him,
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: bein't okay what we think? So at the end of
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: the days, no, that's what he wants. Yeah, No, I listen,
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: I say the same thing for any player. If that's
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: the guy you really like, go get him, you know. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: I love Garrett Wilson, I really like Traylan Burks. I
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: mean I'd be excited for for all those guys. I
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: just I don't I don't want to expend a bunch
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: of assets to try to go get you need too much.
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: I just don't think these guys. I mean, I think
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: there's some good players, I don't think they're a great players.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: And I think if you think Jamison Williams is Randy Moss,
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: which you know people some people do, then then I
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: think he's worth it. I don't know, I'm not quite
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: as as crazy about him, but I think he's a
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: lot of even him and I like him more than you,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: but even he's just a one year guy, one year production,
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: like I like, I don't mind, like Christian Watson and
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: right too, right I write, you know, I'm try to
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: have a guy think, hey, we just spent our whole
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: draft to go get Jamison Williams, you know I And
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: that's like you watch certain guys and it's easy to
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: look at the rankings and be like, I love every
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: single of the top twenty guys. But I think if
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: you watch him, you start there's certain guys you gravitate towards,
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: guys that you know, you say, oh, I like how
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: he plays that you know, feels like fits their styles,
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: and you know that's That's why I have some opinion
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: and a lot of those guys in the second round.
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: I really like you know skymore even you know, I
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: didn't put him back. He's fine, fine if they took him.
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: It's it's some speed on the inside that that I
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: think that they need. Ross's in Manchester, England. He writes
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: in given Paul and Mike's comments on Willison Pikett the quarterbacks,
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: where did the guys think mac Jones would be drafted
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: if he came out this season top five or would
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: he benefit six from the QB bumpet? Go number one? Overall?
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: He would go six to the Carolina to a team
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: that needs a quarters first quarterback taking right. Um, and
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: this is gonna sound really bad, but I'm gonna say
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: it anyway. Like I've seen a lot of this, Like
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: if mac Jones were out this year, he'd be the
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: top quarterback. Well, that doesn't matter. Who cares? Right? Like
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: where would wrestle listening? He flan is he good? Because
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: any of the any of the five guys that were
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: taken in the first fifteen picks last year would be
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: the first quarterback taken this year. I don't think there's
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: much argument to be made against that, right, This is
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: an exceptionally weak quarterback crop, right, yep. So the fact
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: that these five guys that were chosen in twenty one
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: are better than pick It and Willis And maybe you
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: want to throw Desmond ritterin. There's someone some people are
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: starting to give him some first round buzz who cares right, Right,
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: it's just a way to write. It's a way to
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: make you sound like you've got something better than you got.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: If Trevor Lawrence was this year's draft, they to pick
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: him today, they would be just like, yeah, right, But
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: the league wuldn't let them announce it for ten minutes? Right? Um? Uh,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: Dan and Virginia and Michigan, Um, welcome to marath. Don't
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: take any guff from the guys. Uh. Is Paul going
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: to be on the PU Draft Show this weekend or
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: will he be down in the war room with Bill Belichick? Apparently?
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: Belichick apparently values Paul's perspective. Ever since Paul went off
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: about the Patriots signing all the old stalwarts like Bolden
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: and King, the Patriots have not signed and King, what
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: about White? And mccordy have not siler anymore of the players.
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: Paul name No Wonder the Big he big timed you
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: last week and talk about being disingenuous. The Patriots free
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: agent signings this offseason have mostly been on defense. Does
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: this tip their drafting intentions one way or the other?
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: Of the remaining free agents, who do you think are
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: priority signings for the Patriots after the draft? So? Well,
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: I don't. I mean, I don't think any of the
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: guys can't wait for that. It's not a tip. None
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: of the guys that they that they signed on defense
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: are like long term investment. Hey, this is you know,
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: even like Jude On you know last year that was that.
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: But these guys are all two years, one year, coming
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: off an injury, coming off a retirement. Uh, you know,
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: guys who have never quite lived up to you know
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: in Wilson and Mitchell. You know, average NFL players would
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: just fine, but you need talent. I mean, I just
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: everyone's obsessed with wide receiver and I don't get how
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: you look at the defense and are like, nah, thought
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: that'll be all right, that'll figure out. I mean, the
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: last time you saw him, they were terrible, and they've
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: done nothing but lose guys or get older since then.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: So you know, I think they need a lot of
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: work on the defensive side of the ball. And that's
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: that's why I'm not like, oh, we gotta get a
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: receiver in round one. It's like there's another side of
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: the ball that that really really needs, like some pieces.
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: Let's see. Well, there's some good non football ones, but
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: I want to keep for now. Um let's see. Claire
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: writes in I did a pre draft compilation for Pat's propaganda,
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: and I covered jan Dale Robinson. I had him in
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: a very loose comparison to Deebo Samuel, but I had
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: him more of a Rex Birkhead replacement than James White.
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: Do you think that's fair, Paul, she's specifically. I think
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: it's more of a receiver. I'll hang up and listen,
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: who can run than a running back who can catch. Yeah,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: I'd agree with that, but he's played both. He was
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: a running back and they converted them to receiver, so
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: he can. He can do both. But I look at
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: him more as receiving. You like the positionless offense, Paul,
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: That's what you're you're looking forward. It's more defense, Mike,
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: the positionless defense. So the other team just looks across
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: and says I don't know how the hell we're going
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: to do this. Patriots tried positionless offense once in the playoffs.
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: Remember they like Mike hom and Awanui to last year,
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: Buffalo didn't seem to have any trouble with it. What's
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: Lauren's guy doing down there in the other end zone?
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: Like position positions? Ben writes in, Well, but we need
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: a defensive tackle, not on. Ben writes in, he's in
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: a truck. He says, be careful if you get rid
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: of the draft. Does Fred and Floria want? I feel
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: like we'll end up with a system similar to European soccer,
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: where the top four to five teams in each league
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: are always in the running to get the best players
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: every year. They have the most money. Right, and there's
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: no right, there's no cap. Yeah, so see, I you'd
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: have to change rules. If you do that, you'd have
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: to change rules. You know. I just don't throw it out.
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: You know why? What is wrong with the way they
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: do it? Um? Because if I'm a player, maybe I
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: don't want to go to you know. Then that's what
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: I thought he was going to say. Wow, Um, then
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: don't play. Yeah, you're not required to play right foote
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: if you don't want to go to the worst team,
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: then don't play um Neil from New Brunswick. Why is
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: Fred advocating for destroying the NFL and taking it to
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: the abyss that Major League Baseball is currently in. Without
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: the current setup, there is no Drew Bledsoell, the Patrons
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: moved to Saint Louis in the nineties and none of
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: the dynasty happened. Fred, You're too smart to fall for
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: Mike Florio's clickbait um first round prediction trade back? Oh wow,
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: wow wow. Yeah, I hired you hired Andy like three times. Well,
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: if it was up to him, it would be three times.
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: First rounds raft prediction pain trade back to late first
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: round to grab the best player available, which will probably
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: be a position we're already stacked at. I love Bill
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: as a coach, I'm over him as a GM. This
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: has been my stance for years. But maybe Bill will
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: surprise me. Yeah. Just just how about we're good on
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: like slot corners and strong safety. Yeah, I don't think that.
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: I know. Bill gets a lot of criticism with drafting.
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: He's a very, very good I think if you look
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: at the totality of his first round picks, they're almost
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: always for need. He has this like reputation is like, well,
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: he's gonna go with the value. He doesn't care what
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: the position is. Like more often than not, they take
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: a position of high need with with those early picks.
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: I'm not telling you every single guy, and I'm certainly
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: not telling you every guy has worked out, but I
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: think I think there's a lot of need that goes
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: into their early picks. Yeah, I mean you're potentially getting it.
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: You're hoping to get a guy that can come right
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: in and play right. I mean, Harry Michelle Win, I
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: mean all those were I know their misses, but they were.
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: I mean I even I even go back, you know
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: one hundred years. You know, they couldn't stop the running. No. Two,
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: they draft Ty Warren in first round and oh three, yeah,
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: you know, like big run stuffing defensive tackle. And you know,
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: the next year Vince Wilfork. You know, it knows tackles.
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: So all of a sudden, he took something that you
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: really struggled at in two and it became the best
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: in the league. You know, with two first round picks.
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: But in the next two years, like, I think he's
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: done that a lot. Yeah. Twenty twelve I mean, let's
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: go yeah, exactly, that's a good one too, and trading
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: up to get them too, both of them. Scott writes
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: in Can't Listen, Lie but r I p Clayton Wishen
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: his two hundred and twenty nine tackles in the nineteen
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: eighty three is an insane number without an automatic weapon,
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: averaged over fourteen tackles per game. I would rather have
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: two more seconds than twenty one if there was no
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: impact players left. So he's that's separate. I would agree
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: with that. I would rather have two twos than you know,
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: settling for the scraps at twenty one. Yeah. Yeah. But
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: the thing I think we kind of brought up before
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: was that we really have no idea how the top
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: end of the first round is gonna play out. I mean,
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: it's hard enough to predict the bottom end, but the
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: top end, you generally have an idea, Oh, this team
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: likes this guy. You know, there's generally a consensus with
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: the first two or three picks. There isn't this year.
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: So that could make for a lot of you know,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: guys that you didn't expect to maybe fall a little
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: bit to fall because maybe teams are gonna do something
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: ridiculous and different, Like you say, you use the word fall. Yeah,
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: it's not necessarily fall. It's just like our our loves
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: aren't everybody else exactly, So the guy that we love
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: it's available, or our needs aren't necessarily like we don't yeah,
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: our yeah, that's right, our needs. Uh So I think
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: that's what's gonna make this an exciting first round, not
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: necessarily the fact that there's a lot of talented first
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: round guys, but that you don't know how it's gonna
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: play out, right. Yeah, there's quite a few players I think,
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: like the tackles that Raymond and and Penning to those
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: two guys. Fault Jordan Davis, he's another one. I don't
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: think he will, but the intriguing players that, especially those
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: two tackles, because I'm I'm all all on board, no
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: no guards, no guards, Like, let's just wait on that one.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: There's there's good ones later. Um, but tackle. Yeah. Somebody
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: somebody said on the radio they were repeating somebody else.
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: Somebody else said that. We said, like they always do. No,
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: but no one ever said, oh, we were just a
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: guard short of putting the super Bowl. No one ever
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: said it's good it's a good point. Well, our left
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: tackle couldn't stop somebody like they're gonna have the others.
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: But yeah, they're there are guys they can find me. Well,
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: one one could argue that the Super Bowl forty two
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: they were a guard short I went in the Super Bowl. Yeah, um, Kevin,
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: I wouldn't make that argument, however, Kevin and Burlington, speaking
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: of Jordan Davis, one of my favorite times of the year.
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: I love listening to your perspective on things. As a
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: fan of defensive line play, I love to see the
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: Patriots get Jordan Davis, big guys, surprising, speed, athletic, etc.
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: But do you view adding to the interior of the
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: defensive line too much of a luxury as opposed to
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: filling needs at linebacker and corner. I don't think there's
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: a luxury there. I don't think. I don't think it's
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: a luxury either. I think it's a need. Yeah, it's
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: one of many. I mean it's a it's a good
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: question in that, you know, Jordan Davis. I mean, I
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: still think that's where the games want to lost. I
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: just don't see the edge setter, you know, And I
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: think you can find big fatties in the middle to
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: at least hold the ford. You know, maybe you don't
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: have a plus dominant player, which is what you hope
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: Jordan Davis is where he just eats up the center
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: and maybe both cards and allows Barmore and the other
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: guys to go to work. Um. But but I think
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: it's it's right now with the team defense, the needs
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: it's about guy that can set the edge, that can
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: you know, get after the passer when they throw on
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: second down and beat somebody. Um. You know. So I
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: think that there are some guys kind of in the
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: mold of even though Trayvon Walker will not be available there.
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: But like a guy like Josh Pascal from Kentucky's kind
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: of a cheap version of him. Logan Hall is another
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: guy that I came to late that kind of reminds
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: me of a weird amalgam of a little bit of
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: Lawrence Guy, a little bit of Richard Seymour. Like long,
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: that's that's the spot that I'm I'm interested in. And
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: again to bring it back to like you know, if
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: you got Chandler Jones, Dante High Tower, good two guys
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: where it's like, okay, here's a defensive core. Now that
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: we can put with Barmore. We've got a real good,
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: tough linebacker who can play on the edge. We've got
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: a defensive end who you know, maybe can do some
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: other things as well that I'm with you. Offense. I
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: think defense first round. You need it. Nathan and Tampa
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: getting away from the draft for a minute to a
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: question about Mac Jones going into his excuse me, second year.
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: What we're some things you saw over the course of
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: the season that showed development and what are you hoping
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: to see him develop more? I just thought, yeah, I
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: thought as the year went on, you know, I still
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: think there were some some hiccups in terms of not
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: knowing the situation, not getting the playoff, there were some
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: of those, Um you know, come on, Mac, laugh what's
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: wrong when when I laugh makes me cough? Uh? So,
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: I think there were some of the things. I think, uh,
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: you know, throwing the ball up the seam. I think
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: that's a spot that we noticed in camp. It's like
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: he's getting a lot of hands on his balls when
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: he throws. He did it again. I knew it was coming.
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: A lot of hands on balls up out on the seams.
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: Uh you know. So I think those are the things,
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: but um, you know, I think also too the same token,
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: we saw a lot of glimpses of things I think
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: during camp that you know, maybe we're apparent here and
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: there in and during the season, but you know, because
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: some downhill, downfield strikes that he threw and you know,
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: some ability to manage the pocket. I think that's what
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: was impressive, most impressive right out of the gate for
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: me watching him as a rookie in camp, and you know,
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: he didn't really seem to get flustered a look when
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: when all the chaos was coming around him, something he
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: certainly saw with with you know Stidham in his first
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: year in camp where it was like whoa, you know,
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: all of a sudden, he just got to throw it
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: in the ground because it's been about seven or eight seconds.
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: So definitely things he can he can improve. And I
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: think just overall the I set it before. It's like
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: sometimes last year he had the energy of like the
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: sophomore who made varsity and was starting and everyone's isn't
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: this cool? You know, I can't believe him here now.
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: It's like you've been a starting quarterback for a year,
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: have some presence about you. You know, you've been, you know,
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: organizing workouts. These guys know you, So hopefully he can
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: just take more command. Yeah, it seemed like they were
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: giving him more to do each week. Yeah, a little
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: by little, you know, open up the playbook a little
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: bit more. Yeah. I think his confidence was going up
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: and taking more chances. Yeah. I think I think that's
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: you know, even if they aren't successful, just you know,
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: being willing to do that. Yeah. I think it's an
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: interesting dynamic too because last year, going into camp not
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: knowing what we didn't know yet, it was a lot
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: of veterans on defense, a lot of and so you
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: had a rookie with a bunch of free agents that
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: had arrived running the offense. You know, I never really
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: I don't remember coming out of any days where while
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: the offense was just lighting it up. Today, you know,
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: this year there's some turnover on defense. This is an
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: experienced offensive crew coming back. Now, how does it look now?
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: Is Mac and the offense able to you know, really
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: get going against the defense in camp? Are they able
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: to show some things? Because I mean, granted it will
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: be a new defense, there's not a lot of you know,
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: veterans and all that that that can throw a lot
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: of curveballs at them like they were doing in camp.
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: But how does that look that that'll be a big
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: thing to watch Alex and fall River. Last week, you
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: guys were discussing contracts, and one thing that came up
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: is quote, the second contract for a first round pick
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: is enormous. Specifically, Paul, I'm confused how this makes any sense.
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: If you're a great player, your second contract will be expensive.
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: Deebo Samuel is a second round pick, same with dk
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: AJ Brown, etc. Does Paul really think because these guys
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: weren't first round picks, they won't get the same contract
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: as if they were picked in the first round. Makes
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: absolutely no sense to me. Would like some clarification. I
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, not even
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: that hint. Well, I here's what I will say, Like,
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: if you're like Deebo Samuel, to me, is a unicorn,
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: like he was a second round pick, but he's first
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: round talent. Like but he just rattled off three of
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: those nons. No, I know, but I'm just saying that
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: most guys, you know, they're not like that. Most guys.
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: I don't understand his point about the second contract for
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: a second round pick. If you're different, if you're in
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: a second contract, it's not different. No, But if you're
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: an average player right right, where you were drafted kind
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: of dictates your future contracts if you if you if
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: you're better than where you were drafted, then you demand more.
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: If you're on your second contract, what you've done on
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: your first contract dictates what you get next one. Yeah,
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: if you're not your draft status, if you're average, No,
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: but it but like once you're if you're drafted in
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: the first round, if you're if you're the same player
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: as a guy who was drafted in the fourth round,
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: your second contract is going to be higher than the
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: guy who was drafted in the fourth round. I don't
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: think so, it's true. I don't think so. That's what
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: the numbers say. No, he'll make more money because you
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: already made more than the first round. That's my point.
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: The second contract, if they're the same player, would be
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: roughly the same. No, No, it's it's not. That's why
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: I don't understand the email. Yeah, like, like Hollywood Brown
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: isn't going to get more than Deebo Samuel because he
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: was a first round pair. Oh in that case, you're right, Well,
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: they're comparable players, but they're they're like the best, like
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: Deebo Samuel is better. Yes, I would agree. You know,
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: so he's gonna make more because he's better, right, not
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: because he was drafted in the second round of the
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: first round. He's better, he'll get more money. Yeah, But
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: I'm just I think I think what he's referring to,
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: what I'm talking about is average players, you know, like
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: where you start in the league. You know, So you're
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: telling me if if a guy gets taken fifteenth overall
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: but he's average, he'll make more in his second contract
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: than the guy taking fortieth overall who's average. Yes, no, yes, yes,
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: I don't wait. I think the market value will be
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: what the player is, yeah, not where he was drafted. Contract.
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: You'll tell you that every day your contract when you're
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: drafted is slotted because of the right the formula for
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: for rookies. Right, but once you once you become a
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: free agent at the end of that contract, that now
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: it's market fact with others right at a similar exactly
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: it is. But I'm telling you the numbers tell you that.
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: The only thing I would say for a first round
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: pick over the second round pick, is it might give
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: you more of an opportunity if you were a bust.
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: Someone might say, and Bill has done this millions of
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: times his first round talent there, I'll see if I
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: can on ten name recognition. Yes, but you're not getting
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: a bigger contract as an average player over a guy
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: who had the same production in a different round. I
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: just don't see those numbers being drastically different from one
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: round of the next. You get once you're in the league,
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: you get paid for what you've done and what you
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: are going to expected to do is Baker Mayfield, he's
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: still under contract, right, They're gonna they're gonna have to
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: he's not hitting free agent. He's he's got he's got
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: one year on his deal. So yeah, so that's part
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: of that's the problem with them being able to tum right,
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: Like what does he get when he hits because he's
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: eight I think or something like that. He's under contract
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: for like Carolina could make a deal for him, but
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: they already have Donald. Yeah, so they'd have two guys
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: under a fifty year option. Yeah, which you don't want
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: to do, and neither one of them could play. That's
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: kind of a problem. Uh, Jack and Anaba I interpret
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: the Patriots trade of a fifth round pick for six
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: and a seven by as an analogy to a guy
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: who breaks a twenty dollar bill when checking into a hotel.
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: You want to get your money into small denominations so
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: that you have more flexibility when tipping. Similarly, the Patriots
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: want to get multiple late round picks to increase their
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: flexibility in putting together packages of draft picks for moving
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: up in the draft. I just don't know how much
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: that seven round picks. This, this doesn't do that. Your
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: tipping analogies is relevant. By the way, that's a common practice.
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: I'm with you, yeah, for the for the money, I
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: mean what the like the valet, you know, when you've
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: got to get your car or something, or if I mean,
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: I never allow. Allow, it's not the right word. I
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: never accept. When the guy wants to bring your bags
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: up to your room. Oh yeah, I you know, I'm
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: get your hands off my suit. I can carry my
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: own bags. You don't want to support the poor guy,
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: that's how he lives on tips. I never really thought
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: of it that way, but you're probably right. Paul. Paul's
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: the uh, you know, the handcuffs on his wrist and
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: on the suitcase, the big money satchel, the codes. Uh No,
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: you're at the hotel bar. You want to have a
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: you know, get a few cocktails and you want to
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: throw a little something in the jar if you're going
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: to the men's establishment. Uh Philip A and Rio di
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: jan Narrow. Apparently Jake Bailey will be the second highest
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: paid punter this year. Is there any merit to the
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: rumors that we will draft a punter with a late
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: round pick. I saw a guy mocked to the Patriots
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: in on ESPN. No different, different, different punter in the
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: seventh round, in the seventh round. I think Matt Miller ESPN.
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: Is that a name? Yeah? Him, Matta Rosa is projected
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: like fourth or fifth round. What an absolute waste a weapon?
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: Can you imagine using a fourth round pick on a punter?
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: I mean you could get a I mean, in all seriousness,
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: you could get a player in the fourth round. Yeah,
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: you could, Like you, I mean, it's not impossible to
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: get a player players? Can He put it on one
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: every time from no matter where them from, no matter where,
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: punting from his back a yep, every time. I'm sorry,
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: but I can't substantia using draft capital on a guy
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: I hope will never play in the game rights holding.
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: When you put it that way, it's great true. I mean,
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: you know, the more he played, worse you are. I
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: don't draft defense. I don't want to have to play defense.
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: I just want to score. Talk about positionless defense, no defense,
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: that's taking it to the extreme. I got Andy and
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: a quarterbacks and receivers. H Raj says, if you were
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: in a front office, what would be one thing that
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: you are stubborn about in your draft philosophy? For example,
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: I wouldn't trade down. I really don't trust late draft
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: risers like Dravon Walker this year, Zach Wilson last year,
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: Rubisky in two thousand and seven, et cetera. Seventeen. I think,
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: barring a late injury, your first instinct in a player
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: is usually the best. Usually, these guys getting drafted that
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: high are a symptom of there being too much time
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: between the end of the season in the draft and
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: GM's overthinking their picks for the pick at twenty one.
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: Give me lave Dean or McDuffie. I like your theory.
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: I didn't like your examples. Don't don't put too much
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: stock in forty times and combine testing, and that's where
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: I would go with um, not Trey Von Walker, but
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: Jordan Davis, like at a position where it's a largely
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: irrelevant how fast a guy is straight line speed, uh,
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: you know, and we've seen some of these guys over
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: the years shoot up. Now. Another guy who was one
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: of those guys that really jumped at the combine was
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: Chris Jones, and he's been a stud So I'm not
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: telling you that every single time that what about Don
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: Tari Poe, wasn't he kind of like that he was
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: a stiff, you know, you know, a guy that could
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: run a four to eight forty at like three hundred
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: and fifty pounds and everybody was like, gaga, Yeah, and
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: he wasn't really all that good. Yeah, Yeah, it's uh,
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: I think too. Like with Walker, I don't know. I
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: like what blew me away about him was was watching
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: him play. Um but like you said, the play that
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: he made that they show all the time on Twitter
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: against Alabama is amazing. Alabama is tough, tough dude, Like
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about, the end of the half,
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: they had the little slip screen and the guy kind
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: of broke it. Yeah, and he comes from the defensive
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: the interior defensive line and runs them down near the sideline.
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: That may have saved a touchdown. Yeah, that was an
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: impressive play. I do think that there's some things to
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: be aware of though with the testing. Is just that
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: sometimes it represents more that the guy is in shape
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: and that he's focused and that he's into it. You
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: know that that almost has worked more to me than
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: it's hard. Wow. He you know, so you don't want
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: to ignore the testing numbers, but you also don't want
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: to put all all your stock right. What was Mamula
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: right that he was the post child for it? Yea
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: workout warrior. But even this guy that I like, woolling, okay,
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: six to four runs a sub four three. I mean
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: that your eyes pop out. You know, he can't play right, right,
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: and look take that and then look at his game
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: tape right, And I'd be very afraid if someone was
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: going to say that's a top ten pick, right, because
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: he has top ten metrobles, right, But clearly he's a
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: developmental prospect and he's not at that level. I like
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: that the emails. I think there's a lot of validity
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: to that. There's you know, sometimes your first instincts is
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: the right. We's why I'm not closing the door on
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: Cavon Thibodeaux, who was the consensus number one overall pick.
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: Now this, I mean you could get him in the
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: twenties and some of these mock drafts. I don't think
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: he'll be probably more around ten or eleven or twelve
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: somewhere there. But I mean everybody in their uncle had
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: this guy going number one overall at this time last year. Yeah,
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: and now all of a sudden he doesn't have a
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: you know, his work ethic isn't there, and production is
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: not always there. He takes plays off. Maybe all that's true,
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: but I think sometimes your first instincts on those things,
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think there's huge uh. Like like
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: I said, I didn't think the examples he used, I
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: didn't think like Zach Wilson. Zach Wilson was the first
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: round pick, right. I mean maybe he went the second
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: quarterback and maybe someone thought he should have been the third, fourth,
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: I mean something like that. But he was a consider
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: him a riser, Yeah, No, I think he was a
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: first round pick from his college tape right right. His
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: last year at BYU, he made himself a first round pick,
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: and and and he's won. That's a good example of
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: a guy who didn't really play a lot until his
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: last year. Right, So, I mean so some of it
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: is not just oh they blew up the combine and
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: now they're shooting on the board. It's that all right.
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: They were not on really the preseason watch list. And
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: then he had a great fall and then in I'm
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: okay with that football, Yeah, and then everybody realizes, hey,
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: this kid had a great year. He's really coming on.
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: He's gonna rock it up there. And that's why guys
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: like Thibadeau all of a sudden start to fall as
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: these other guys you know, performed during their college seasons.
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: Fidel's in Florida on the ace ticket. Oh well, Alex
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: writes in, Um, where's he from? There are some of
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: these non football emails. Yeah, we didn't get to Alex's
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: in Pentucket. Um, it's been a while since I rode
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: in and wanted to play a catch up real quick
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: before my draft. Question one, that's salty emailer from Saint
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: Louis can go pound sand as you guys have been
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: the only reason I have any draft awareness of who's available.
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: Planning a wedding, grad school, and work all take up
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: way too much time to do a mock draft or
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: read those. So, like Fred said, screw you to that
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: guy too. Welcome Tomara. Happy to have a new perspective
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: to throw into the mix. Don't be afraid to rattle cages.
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: Three my grammar pet peeves. I've been trying to think,
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: and I finally got hit with two. A use guys,
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: when people add a random sue to things that don't
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: require it. That's kind of a slang though, that's that's
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: not really grammar. People. People know what they're doing when
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: they do that. Yeah, it's intentional. Yeah, and be y'all
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: all y'all, which translates to all you all. That's just
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: something that don grinds my gears. So it's not y'all,
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: but that's grammar. No, it's like that. Yeah. Now for
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: a thought experiment, imagine the NFL decided to limit the
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: positions that you can draft to three per team. We
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: have nine picks. What would you the three positions be?
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: I know we have a lot more needs than three positions,
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: but I thought this could be interesting to think rather
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: than who to draft specifically, it could be a flop
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: question as well. So you're basically saying you have to
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: draft your top three needs, edge, corner guard, I have
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: to do different ones. You can do all wide receiver.
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: Your egady said you had to draft three different He
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: said you only get three picks. I thought he said
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: only three positions. I thought you said. I don't know.
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: I don't I don't like the I don't like the question.
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: I think cornerback's got to be on anybody. Yes, we
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: could debate, and you could. There's nuance between the other ones,
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: but I think cornerback has to be on that. Yeah. Indeed,
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: Audrey and New Hampshire says, get this, Freddy Beatles take
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: this morning. That would be uh mock Mark Burke trn.
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: The Patriots collective draft personnel is allowing Bill to get
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: the trading down out of his system because he so
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: badly wants to this year. Now they can go ahead
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: and pick in the first round. Oh that's funny. That's
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: like taking the keys from Grandpa. Now that that's the
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: angle guy. I do think there's a better than average
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: chance that they end up at twenty one, because if
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: these reports are correct and everybody's trying to trade down.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: It's not going to be easy to do unless the
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: right guy falls and the right team is like, it's now,
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: we're now. You know, Malique Willis goes to the Steelers.
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: Somebody really wants pick it and it's now or never.
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: You know that that I could see, Um, but I
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: don't think that. I don't think they're going to have
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: their their choice of who they get to unload that
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: pickoff on it. They'll they'll need to have somebody who
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: comes and gets it. Joey writes in the Patriots should
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: give the Niners this year's second round and next year's
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: first round for Deebo Samuel and use this first round
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: to get a cornerback. Well, if they do that, I
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: do it, you know, the one in the two for Deebo. Yeah,
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: next year's one though, next year's one, it's more valuable
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: than this year's. Yeah, because the class is gonna be better. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: we know that for sure. That's just going by I mean,
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: you can't just go by what everybody says and then
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: ignore what they say. Right, none of us is a
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: draft expert. We're all right, all right, that's gonna be
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: the show for today. Um reminded that tomorrow we'll have
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: a playbook with John Rook. Step inside the playbooks. Yeah,
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: and er Scalipono John, And that means Eric Eric. No,
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: I got I got gotta take care of my cart
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: lined up though, don't. Oh we got a guest lined up.
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: Oh who's that calling on the subway Fresh Expert Hotline?
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: You got Buster crabs refresh? Is that a thing? Russell
- 1:59:48Speaker 1: Baxter Andrew Callahan. Yeah, see, these are all things that
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: should be things you know, you know and instead of yeah,
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: I'll save that off. All right, Um, Thursday Patriots Unfelt.
