- Josh Morton: Welcome back to Saluda County Unplug, the official podcast of Saluda County Government. I'm Rachel. And I'm Josh. Each week we talk about what's happening in county government, explain how the process works, and help keep our community Another major portion of Monday night's agenda is the continued budget process. Both the school district budget and the county budget are scheduled to receive third reading, which is the final step in the ordinance process. This has been a months-long effort involving revenue projections, department requests, operational needs, and decisions about how county resources will be allocated in the coming fiscal year. The final item on the agenda is second reading on an ordinance permitting Saluda County to enter into a lease agreement with Aiken Pilot Training. Moving into new business, the first item Council will consider is approval of changes to the county's flex and pay policies. These changes relate to the classification of county employees as exempt or non-exempt, as well as policies dealing with flex time and overtime. These policies are important because they provide clear guidance on how employee compensation and time worked are handled. The meeting will begin with normal opening items, call to order, indication, pledge, approval of the agenda, and the approval of the previous meeting minutes. This agenda includes approval of minutes from both the May 11th and June 8th County Council meetings. On this episode of Saluda County Unplugged, we're looking ahead to a called meeting of the Saluda County Council scheduled for Monday, June 22nd. The agenda includes several important items, including employee policy updates, job descriptions, a reserve fund action, and continued work on the upcoming county budget. We'll walk through the agenda, explain what each item means, and help you know what to expect when council meets on Monday. So that's a look ahead at Monday night's called County Council meeting. Again, the meeting begins at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 22nd at the Saluda County Administration Building located at 400 West Highland Street. You can attend in person or you can watch the live stream through the county's Facebook page. Today, we're previewing a called meeting of the Saluda County Council schedule for Monday, June 22nd at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Saluda County Administration Building. Before we get into the agenda items, it's important to talk about what a called meeting is. Unlike the regular meeting a called meeting is scheduled whenever council needs to address specific items outside of that normal calendar, often due to the need to take timely action on specific items. These meetings are still open to the public. Updating these policies also helps ensure the county's practices remain consistent with applicable employment requirements and provides clarity for both employees and supervisors. This item received first reading during the June 8th County Council meeting, and Monday night's reading will be the second reading of that ordinance. We'll provide more information on this item as additional details become available and as the process continues. The next new business item is approval of the updated job descriptions. At this meeting, Council is expected to consider updates related to positions within the Information Technology Department and the Clerk of Court's office. Job descriptions may not be something that most residents think about on a regular basis, but they are an important part of how the county government operates. They outline the responsibilities of a position, the qualifications needed, and how that role fits into the larger structure of county operations. And residents are welcome to attend in person. The meeting will also be streamed live through the county's Facebook page. There is a reason the May 11th minutes are appearing on this agenda. During the June 8th County Council meeting, there was a typographical error on the agenda related to the approval of the minutes. Because of that correction, council will need to formally approve those during this meeting. Following those opening items, council will hold its public comment period. As always, this is an opportunity for residents to come before council and share comments, concerns, or information directly with their elected officials. If you'd like to speak, The final item under New Business is the approval of a reserve fund disbursement. This is an action that council takes annually as part of the end of year financial process. You can sign up immediately prior to the meeting at the back of the meeting room. At the close of the fiscal year, the county administrator reviews the county's revenues and expenditures. Any remaining difference between those amounts is transferred into a reserve account through this action. This essentially closes out the current fiscal year and allows the county to start fresh on July 1st as the new fiscal year begins.
