- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to artists on artists on artists on artists. Boy,
- 0:03Speaker 1: do we have a panel for you today.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Industry's screenwriting expert panel of new voices in Hollywood.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Costumes are correct.
- 0:10Speaker 4: Buck Mary Kill wide shot, two shot close up on
- 0:15Speaker 4: artists on artists on artists.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Do you know why they call it show business? I
- 0:19Speaker 1: always wonder that.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Welcome back to artists on artists on artists on artists
- 0:27Speaker 4: this week. Not the backbone of the industry, not the
- 0:31Speaker 4: heart of the industry, but the fingers. That's right. The
- 0:35Speaker 4: artists that haunt local coffee shops each day.
- 0:39Speaker 1: These warriors wake up and make a choice to make art.
- 0:43Speaker 1: These are the people that inhabit Aroma Cafe in North Hollywood.
- 0:48Speaker 2: From flat whites to lattes. They're working day in and
- 0:54Speaker 2: day out to get the job done and maybe make
- 0:57Speaker 2: something at the end of it. Not money, but a project.
- 1:01Speaker 5: Welcome to a Roma Cafe. Let's listen in.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Hi, everybody. I am Brandon Awareness and I am a
- 1:13Speaker 1: screenwriter and a regular here at a Roma Cafe.
- 1:16Speaker 6: Thank you, hey, little toushes.
- 1:21Speaker 5: My name is Mama Joy.
- 1:23Speaker 6: That's what they call me around my household, and I'm
- 1:26Speaker 6: so excited to be here.
- 1:27Speaker 5: I'm a writer at a Roma Cafe and a mother
- 1:29Speaker 5: of four.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Hello everybody. Hello. My name is Stuart Ostrov. I am
- 1:38Speaker 4: from Russia and I have been in Los Angeles for
- 1:43Speaker 4: three years. I work out of a Roma Cafe with
- 1:48Speaker 4: creative partners and make lots of short film ideas together
- 1:54Speaker 4: and production meetings because I am an artist and it's
- 1:59Speaker 4: great to see my Aroma family together today.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yo, what's up. My name is Kitty Baggins. I work
- 2:07Speaker 2: from the Aroma. I make tiktoks, I make videos, I edit,
- 2:11Speaker 2: and I take a lot of meetings and phone calls
- 2:15Speaker 2: and that's kind of my thing out here, pursuing the dream.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Absolutely absolutely.
- 2:22Speaker 7: Greetings, fellow travelers. My name is Alonzo, poet, dream weaver, lyricist,
- 2:29Speaker 7: general wanderer of the arts.
- 2:33Speaker 8: Salutations everyone. My name is Alonzo. I am a notion haver,
- 2:39Speaker 8: concept weaver, ruminator of impossible equations, and I am excited
- 2:47Speaker 8: to be chatting with you all.
- 2:50Speaker 2: So happy to be here, guys, Thank gosh they invited
- 2:53Speaker 2: us here.
- 2:54Speaker 4: I am over the moon. I'm over to the moon
- 2:56Speaker 4: to be talking to everyone because I only see everyone
- 3:00Speaker 4: on their laptop's private working and I never want to stop,
- 3:04Speaker 4: and I never want to interrupt because I don't want
- 3:07Speaker 4: to stop the creative And it's so exciting to be
- 3:12Speaker 4: able to talk to everybody, isn't it.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Especially in this new space right where anything is possible.
- 3:19Speaker 1: You know, where you can make a sketch show on
- 3:22Speaker 1: the moon, you can make a drama in the NFT world,
- 3:27Speaker 1: you can create a soap out of pure metaverse. Anything
- 3:32Speaker 1: is possible, and we are the people who make that happen.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Exactly Like that, I think is the coolest thing. Like
- 3:38Speaker 2: when I go to a Roman, I just look around
- 3:40Speaker 2: and I see the regulars, and I'm like, we're all grinding,
- 3:44Speaker 2: Like we're all out here grinding, grind, because like we're
- 3:48Speaker 2: in LA. It's like this is it. You know, this
- 3:51Speaker 2: is the place you make it or break it. You
- 3:53Speaker 2: grind or you die. And just to see fellow artists
- 3:56Speaker 2: like grinding every day. I know you guys are busting
- 3:58Speaker 2: your asses and I'm busting my So it's just nice
- 4:00Speaker 2: to see you guys grind.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I'm now I have a question that I'd love to
- 4:06Speaker 1: post to the group. We've obviously all been working at
- 4:10Speaker 1: a Roma Cafe on our laptops for years.
- 4:14Speaker 7: I would say, I work on a pad of paper.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Right, I'm so sorry, thank you? So yet has anyone
- 4:22Speaker 1: ever done a Hollywood job before?
- 4:27Speaker 8: Well, I would be interested in what the definition of
- 4:30Speaker 8: a Hollywood job is. Personally, I like, I ruminate on
- 4:37Speaker 8: a lot of ideas and concepts, and though I have
- 4:41Speaker 8: never been paid for them before by Hollywood, I am
- 4:45Speaker 8: eager to gain that accessibility.
- 4:52Speaker 7: Aren't we all just the directors of our own lives
- 4:54Speaker 7: of sorts?
- 4:55Speaker 4: I want to ask, do you know? Do you you
- 5:00Speaker 4: work together? Or are you do you like? Are you
- 5:04Speaker 4: a pair?
- 5:07Speaker 7: I recognize Alonso from across the across the cafe, but no,
- 5:13Speaker 7: we've never collaborated. I'm a bit of a loan lone.
- 5:16Speaker 8: Wolf, as am I a dire lone wolf of sorts and.
- 5:22Speaker 7: Keeping some of them.
- 5:23Speaker 6: I call you too, because you're both always in the
- 5:25Speaker 6: separate corners, one of you with a pad of paper,
- 5:28Speaker 6: the other one with a weird, weird muleskin iPad thing.
- 5:33Speaker 6: And I call you to the ted bundies because thank you?
- 5:37Speaker 7: Because and at go home a compliment?
- 5:40Speaker 3: Yes, I go home every day in my family and
- 5:42Speaker 3: they go, how is how is work?
- 5:43Speaker 5: Aroma?
- 5:44Speaker 6: And I say, oh, the usual cast of characters were there,
- 5:47Speaker 6: Ted bundies were there.
- 5:48Speaker 5: They smell awful.
- 5:50Speaker 8: Well, that's just a wonderful compliment from a from a
- 5:53Speaker 8: fellow bard. And I just want to tip my hat
- 5:55Speaker 8: to you, so thank you for.
- 5:57Speaker 7: Saying that when you're so focused on your art, you
- 6:00Speaker 7: have no time to cut your hair. Bathe go to
- 6:04Speaker 7: the bathroom indoors. I am just a conduit of art.
- 6:07Speaker 7: My body is just there to transport my brain as
- 6:12Speaker 7: it goes on its journey of sorts.
- 6:13Speaker 2: I actually had a question for you guys, because like
- 6:15Speaker 2: I've wondered, like, do you guys live with each other
- 6:18Speaker 2: or because their timing is impeccable, you'll one of you
- 6:21Speaker 2: guys will enter, the other will enter. You guys will
- 6:24Speaker 2: sit on the opposite sides, and then it seems like
- 6:26Speaker 2: you guys leave at the same time.
- 6:27Speaker 1: But the way you both sort of wipe your nose
- 6:31Speaker 1: at the same time and you adjust, I'll get I'll
- 6:34Speaker 1: watch you both get up and adjust your pants in
- 6:36Speaker 1: the same way and then just sit back down, And
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'm like, are you guys not noticing this?
- 6:41Speaker 8: Well, we're just fellow bards. And when you connect on
- 6:45Speaker 8: a similar brain wave with a fellow Bard such as
- 6:47Speaker 8: Alfonso as to me, we tend to mimic each other
- 6:55Speaker 8: in rather peculiar ways.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Eat these. I was going also going to say that
- 7:00Speaker 4: because I noticed not to be snoop, but I love
- 7:02Speaker 4: food and I love seeing everybody's food. You both order
- 7:07Speaker 4: whole Keish Lorraine and you eat them both every day.
- 7:10Speaker 4: The whole keishe big and the aroma they're big pieces.
- 7:13Speaker 4: And I wondered if that was on purpose.
- 7:17Speaker 7: Keish Lorraine is my muse. All of my art comes
- 7:20Speaker 7: to me via the energy of the kish Lorraine.
- 7:23Speaker 8: Yes, and when the Keish Lorraine enters your body, it
- 7:25Speaker 8: allows you to dream weave of sorts and imagine new
- 7:30Speaker 8: ideas and concepts that can propel you to heights of
- 7:35Speaker 8: creativity and artistic try that is.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Amazing, I will say, just jumping off of that, if
- 7:41Speaker 2: you are really obsessed with all the food, I mean,
- 7:45Speaker 2: I have you coming up to my plate and going
- 7:48Speaker 2: what is this? I can't do your voice, but like.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I guilty of that. I love looking at what
- 7:55Speaker 4: everybody is eating because I also food for me is
- 7:59Speaker 4: really crazy. I like to look at everybody eating all
- 8:03Speaker 4: kinds of stuff and imagining why you get to there
- 8:07Speaker 4: and the menu. You know why that's for the day,
- 8:10Speaker 4: what we're eating. It's kind of stuff I'm thinking about
- 8:14Speaker 4: in my brain because I have me and my mom
- 8:16Speaker 4: used to say, you have a crazy brain, and it's
- 8:19Speaker 4: very much that. When I see people, I'm obsessed. I
- 8:22Speaker 4: would love for people to tell me what their menu.
- 8:25Speaker 4: I know that the Funso and Alonso, you guys are
- 8:27Speaker 4: kish Lo rain boys, and then everybody else. What does
- 8:30Speaker 4: your number one go to Aroma item?
- 8:33Speaker 8: For me?
- 8:33Speaker 4: Big eminem cookie? And that's it.
- 8:37Speaker 2: That can't be good for you. That just you guzzling
- 8:41Speaker 2: those things down once, you know, twice a day.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Well just there. And then when I go home by
- 8:46Speaker 4: one of my roommates works at a butcher, so I
- 8:49Speaker 4: get a lot of meat for free.
- 8:51Speaker 5: Oh how lucky.
- 8:53Speaker 7: The M and m's are our modern day court jesters.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Oh about that? Do you mean the real names are
- 9:01Speaker 4: the characters on the TV?
- 9:02Speaker 7: You just you mentioned the Eminem cookie and say.
- 9:05Speaker 5: Tad Bundy, repeat yourself, Tied.
- 9:06Speaker 7: Bundy, Thank you. I take that name with a badge
- 9:09Speaker 7: of honor. Ted Bundy, great dream weaver and spellbinder. The
- 9:13Speaker 7: Eminem's in commercials, even on packaging, they make us laugh.
- 9:19Speaker 7: They make us smile. We are but kings and they
- 9:23Speaker 7: are court gestures.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, I'd like it.
- 9:27Speaker 2: We are the kings at this in this one, we're
- 9:30Speaker 2: the kings, right.
- 9:32Speaker 7: Or the kings or the director to use Los Angeles
- 9:34Speaker 7: speak nice, nice, they get that of our.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I love using industry words like that, like director and writer.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I would say, going back to your question, my favorite
- 9:47Speaker 1: item at a Roma Cafe is a tap water with
- 9:50Speaker 1: a straw. Now, this makes people rather upset, right. Aroma
- 9:58Speaker 1: Cafe employees will come up to me, they'll they'll ask
- 10:01Speaker 1: me to buy something, And I am so against this capitalism,
- 10:07Speaker 1: commodification of what we're buying, what we're eating. Why do
- 10:12Speaker 1: I have to exchange money for there to be an
- 10:14Speaker 1: exchange of good and services? Right? Why can't I connect
- 10:18Speaker 1: to what God put down on this earth or she
- 10:23Speaker 1: put down on this earth? Ostrov I'm open to whatever
- 10:31Speaker 1: about I'm open to.
- 10:32Speaker 2: What can be.
- 10:33Speaker 4: We don't have to talk about God here.
- 10:37Speaker 8: God is an interest.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Oh more, I want to hear from you about God.
- 10:42Speaker 8: Well, in my mind, I've always sort of seen God
- 10:45Speaker 8: as almost an impossible equation. Where it is, it's such
- 10:51Speaker 8: a dreary subject in my mind.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Have you ever worked God into some sort of green
- 11:00Speaker 1: play or written work of any kind.
- 11:03Speaker 8: I've been considering working God into a notion that I've
- 11:07Speaker 8: had recently, where if God were here with us rights, now,
- 11:16Speaker 8: what would he or she or they or it's say
- 11:20Speaker 8: to us humanity?
- 11:23Speaker 5: I think he'd say. I think he'd say he loves you.
- 11:27Speaker 4: You'd say he thinks she loves you.
- 11:29Speaker 5: I think he would say that.
- 11:32Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
- 11:34Speaker 8: God would say that's.
- 11:38Speaker 2: I mean, Mama Joy says, but God would say, I
- 11:43Speaker 2: love you. But what would you say, Alonzo or off
- 11:45Speaker 2: Onzo or anybody? I mean, that's a really interesting question,
- 11:48Speaker 2: like what would God say to us?
- 11:51Speaker 7: Love is the ultimate notion? I don't know. I think
- 11:55Speaker 7: God is but love and energy form of sorts.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Okay, feels pretty pretty similar to the last answer, what
- 12:05Speaker 2: about you, Alonzo?
- 12:07Speaker 8: I would say God is a creature of love or
- 12:14Speaker 8: desire in the form of an unexplainable entity.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I feel like that's pretty textbook textbook God.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Kitty, what would you say, Kitty?
- 12:25Speaker 7: For me?
- 12:25Speaker 2: I feel like if God was like right in front
- 12:28Speaker 2: of me first, I'm asking him to do like a
- 12:30Speaker 2: video with me, because I feel like God would be funny.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Like that's like the thing that people don't understand, Like
- 12:35Speaker 2: God would be funny, and like God could like do
- 12:38Speaker 2: like a voice or like a like a TikTok of
- 12:41Speaker 2: some sort that's fascinating, like the drop low challenge. God
- 12:44Speaker 2: would kill that, I feel like and I would go viral,
- 12:48Speaker 2: like immediately.
- 12:50Speaker 4: You seem to be always doing videos in the corner.
- 12:53Speaker 4: I see you always always doing video.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm always doing like videos, like
- 13:00Speaker 2: I'm always trying to do tiktoks really quick. And thanks
- 13:03Speaker 2: guys for letting me use you in a lot of
- 13:05Speaker 2: my TikTok of.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Course, of course that's my community. It's really fun to
- 13:09Speaker 4: be in videos.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess Alonzo and Alfonso I will apologize both
- 13:14Speaker 2: of you because I did make that video, but like
- 13:16Speaker 2: these two guys might shoot up my coffee shop, and
- 13:20Speaker 2: and like it kind of came.
- 13:23Speaker 7: We were honored to be featured trotting the boards of
- 13:26Speaker 7: TikTok and your creation and any creative process.
- 13:30Speaker 2: That was my most violent video for sure, And I
- 13:32Speaker 2: know you guys get a lot of shit for it,
- 13:33Speaker 2: Like they found you and they started doxing you like crazy,
- 13:36Speaker 2: and I'm just.
- 13:36Speaker 8: Well, to be to be a part of someone's creation
- 13:39Speaker 8: is probably one of the greatest pleasures that any person
- 13:43Speaker 8: can have in life. So thank you for that.
- 13:46Speaker 4: You have a wonderful That's nice way to look at it,
- 13:49Speaker 4: because when he when Ketty involved you in the step
- 13:52Speaker 4: on their Trench Quote challenge and Kitty stepped on the
- 13:56Speaker 4: backs of your trench quotes and you fell into the ground,
- 13:59Speaker 4: I would really upset to see that happen to me.
- 14:02Speaker 7: Closer to the ground, closer to Mother Earth, our source
- 14:05Speaker 7: of inspiration.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I was the one that also tried to start
- 14:09Speaker 2: the step on their trench cut challenge. You did not
- 14:11Speaker 2: take off, Thank you.
- 14:13Speaker 7: I wish that it would.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess what I would get. My ideal order
- 14:19Speaker 2: is what I do is they sell red bulls in
- 14:23Speaker 2: the in like the side, and I'll just get three
- 14:25Speaker 2: red bulls and a little bit of egg and that's
- 14:29Speaker 2: set for me for the day.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Egg how egg?
- 14:34Speaker 2: Well, I get the sandwich, but I asked him no
- 14:36Speaker 2: bread and no meat, no cheese, so just the egg.
- 14:39Speaker 2: And they're like, we don't serve eggs here. But I'm like, okay,
- 14:42Speaker 2: but you have to fulfill my order.
- 14:44Speaker 1: So you know, they do serve eggs, and so that's
- 14:47Speaker 1: why I'm wondering why they're specifically saying no to you.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Did you sort of do something with the eggs at
- 14:53Speaker 1: some point that would make them not trust you? Per se?
- 14:57Speaker 2: There was Eggman challenge where you try to make your
- 15:01Speaker 2: face an egg Like I put the eggs and walk around,
- 15:04Speaker 2: and it was kind of like it was both like,
- 15:07Speaker 2: you know, like, because what right now we're doing is
- 15:09Speaker 2: cross platform stuff, So I'll make a YouTube video and
- 15:11Speaker 2: then try to cut it up for TikTok. So I
- 15:14Speaker 2: made a vlog style video where I tape the eggs
- 15:20Speaker 2: that they made me to my face and try to
- 15:22Speaker 2: walk around and see if anybody noticed me. They immediately did,
- 15:24Speaker 2: and they were very upset.
- 15:26Speaker 8: So can I just say that you are a modern
- 15:29Speaker 8: day Aristotle of sorts? Really?
- 15:32Speaker 2: Who's that guy?
- 15:33Speaker 8: I believe?
- 15:34Speaker 2: What did he do?
- 15:35Speaker 7: Ever? Who's Aristotle? Excuse me?
- 15:37Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 15:38Speaker 8: Who's probably one of the greatest board trotters of our day,
- 15:41Speaker 8: A notion has such as myself, I take a lot
- 15:43Speaker 8: of we I take a lot of inspiration from him,
- 15:46Speaker 8: and I see a lots of his work in what
- 15:49Speaker 8: you were doing with your Eggman challenge?
- 15:51Speaker 2: Really did he did he have like was he a
- 15:54Speaker 2: comedian or is he like a stand up guy? Or
- 15:57Speaker 2: did he do videos?
- 15:59Speaker 1: Alosopher one of the greats like Bill Berr. No, not
- 16:06Speaker 1: a modern day philosopher, like a philosopher, like what that
- 16:09Speaker 1: phrase is based on. Like when they say Bill Burr
- 16:11Speaker 1: is a modern day philosopher, they're talking about the original
- 16:14Speaker 1: word a philosopher, which was what Aristotle was.
- 16:19Speaker 4: This is a great question. You might go right over
- 16:22Speaker 4: Keaty's head. But Alfonso and Alonso, I have to know
- 16:25Speaker 4: your favorite philosophers.
- 16:28Speaker 7: Favorite philosophers, Aristotle, Morrissey, you too, yepono. Jim Morrison, the
- 16:41Speaker 7: Lizard King, resident poet of the Sunset strip here in
- 16:44Speaker 7: sunny Los Angeles. The Pharaoh, Yes, of course, the pharaoh,
- 16:50Speaker 7: Jay Pharaoh, Oh boy, Jay Pharaoh as well. But with
- 16:55Speaker 7: the Pharaoh of Egypt.
- 16:58Speaker 2: That's wowol. Did you guys see inside Bob Burnham's inside?
- 17:03Speaker 2: I feel like you guys would love that shit.
- 17:04Speaker 4: Oh I loved it. I love that Bo Burnham is
- 17:09Speaker 4: very funny and sad too.
- 17:12Speaker 7: It's a little bit too intense for me. Comedian trapped
- 17:16Speaker 7: in his own home making a streaming special. Yes, my
- 17:23Speaker 7: soul can't go to a place that full of despair.
- 17:26Speaker 4: M that's a great question. I actually want to ask
- 17:29Speaker 4: where does everyone live? Do we all live kind of
- 17:31Speaker 4: e by too Hungo Vinich? Or where? How far are
- 17:35Speaker 4: we going to come to Aroma?
- 17:38Speaker 7: I live above the Whiskey, a go go sunset strip.
- 17:42Speaker 2: That is not a nice place to live. Their concerts
- 17:45Speaker 2: there every week, thing and night.
- 17:47Speaker 7: Yes, and to be surrounded by those notes and chords.
- 17:53Speaker 7: My life is but a symphony of sorts.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Alonzo.
- 17:58Speaker 8: Well, my home resides sort of where I where my
- 18:06Speaker 8: body is, okay, which currently resides at the Viper room.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Oh, just in the viper inside of it.
- 18:15Speaker 1: That's fascinating, somewhere inside.
- 18:17Speaker 2: I cannot sleep there. That's not a warmer, comfy place
- 18:20Speaker 2: to sleep.
- 18:22Speaker 1: We will live in Westwood, California, and I make the
- 18:27Speaker 1: drive because Aroma is the only coffee shop that isn't
- 18:31Speaker 1: selling out, you know, it's not giving way to the
- 18:36Speaker 1: corporate machine, the starbuckses, the Pete's coffees, the you know,
- 18:41Speaker 1: the coffee beans. They're putting something out that is authentic
- 18:46Speaker 1: and that is real. And it's somewhere that I can
- 18:49Speaker 1: work on my screenplay that I've been lovingly working on
- 18:54Speaker 1: for the past twelve years. I've currently gotten through twenty
- 18:59Speaker 1: four page.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Great war. Congratulations so much, Thank you.
- 19:05Speaker 8: Congratulations.
- 19:06Speaker 2: That's huge.
- 19:07Speaker 1: That's it, And I'm just so excited for what's to
- 19:10Speaker 1: come because i know that once I hit that mark,
- 19:12Speaker 1: once I hit that ninety to one thirty page range,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna make it.
- 19:19Speaker 2: That's really interesting because like I always like, you're always like,
- 19:23Speaker 2: because I know you're working on your screenplay butt of
- 19:26Speaker 2: the time. I see you on your phone just like typing,
- 19:28Speaker 2: like commenting on articles and stuff, and I'm with you.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I do. I participate in letterbox discourse a lot, and
- 19:38Speaker 1: it is to keep my brain flowing. It's to keep
- 19:41Speaker 1: my mind attuned to I don't know if you guys
- 19:44Speaker 1: are aware I am Brandon awareness of movies on screenwriter Twitter.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Maybe you've heard of me, but I have ninety eight
- 19:55Speaker 1: hundred followers, and so I'm pretty big in that community.
- 20:00Speaker 4: Oh, they talk about I did you, I saw you
- 20:03Speaker 4: go viral because you called Aaron Sorkin a cunt.
- 20:08Speaker 1: I did, I did? And I stand by that. You know,
- 20:13Speaker 1: all you get business all this walk with me. It's
- 20:17Speaker 1: we're cutting away from words speak louder than action. In
- 20:20Speaker 1: my mind, that's why we're screenwriting, you know what I mean?
- 20:23Speaker 1: And I think he's had it his way for too long,
- 20:26Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 20:27Speaker 2: But didn't we get in trouble because you said the
- 20:29Speaker 2: word cunt? I thought that there was like backlash or something.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Right, people who are less and this is from coming
- 20:35Speaker 1: from people who are outside the industry, right, women, Right,
- 20:40Speaker 1: they don't understand what we're trying to do here because
- 20:44Speaker 1: women don't write screenplays, and so they don't understand, like
- 20:47Speaker 1: why we're saying the things we're saying. They don't understand
- 20:50Speaker 1: like raw in touch emotion, and it's a very insular thing.
- 20:53Speaker 1: It's a very insular la thing to be so in
- 20:58Speaker 1: touch like that, and that's just something that they, unfortunately
- 21:01Speaker 1: like won't get. And so I get it. I'm I'm
- 21:03Speaker 1: a shock factor to people, but I would love to know.
- 21:08Speaker 1: So we every morning, let's paint the picture. You walk
- 21:12Speaker 1: into a Roma cafe, you put down your laptop or
- 21:15Speaker 1: your muleskin journal or your notepowder, what have you?
- 21:18Speaker 7: Filthy filter?
- 21:21Speaker 2: You like it filthy?
- 21:23Speaker 7: Mm hmmm. I like it to carry the stenches of life,
- 21:28Speaker 7: to inspire me. What I read about what I work
- 21:31Speaker 7: on in the morning. I fill my morning pages, and
- 21:35Speaker 7: then I free associate poetry about the sites and sounds
- 21:40Speaker 7: of Los Angeles.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Please reads, could we all?
- 21:45Speaker 4: Because I would love to.
- 21:47Speaker 8: Know that is such a great notion.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Read.
- 21:53Speaker 7: Yes, I'll read a poem, but before I read it,
- 21:58Speaker 7: I will not be seeking any criticism or comment.
- 22:03Speaker 1: So this is a no workshop zone, no work shopping, no.
- 22:06Speaker 7: Notes, just present, final presentation, perfect art. Okay, now, now
- 22:15Speaker 7: I will be in Los Angeles, City of palm trees,
- 22:21Speaker 7: city of thinkers, city of dreamers, city of cars, beep,
- 22:27Speaker 7: the smog, the radio, city of me.
- 22:34Speaker 4: Thank you, wow, really good man.
- 22:40Speaker 7: I am not looking for feedback.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Have you ever tried to Okay, never mind.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Never mind, never mind.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I just wanted to know if you would ever think
- 22:55Speaker 1: or if you would ever consider adapting this into a
- 22:58Speaker 1: short film, into a short film.
- 22:59Speaker 4: Media mm hmm.
- 23:02Speaker 7: Short film an amazing medium. But this is to be
- 23:07Speaker 7: but text words spoken. I like to let people's minds
- 23:12Speaker 7: pint the images, not a camera's lens.
- 23:16Speaker 2: What about you, Alonzo, what's your morning?
- 23:19Speaker 8: Like?
- 23:21Speaker 2: Well?
- 23:21Speaker 8: I usually sit down, uh pay for my kish Lorraine
- 23:28Speaker 8: with various changes that I have acquired over the last
- 23:32Speaker 8: several months. Uh, and then I sit down and I
- 23:37Speaker 8: work on my ruminations, my concepts, my notions.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Please read us a concept? Please, I die to hear.
- 23:52Speaker 4: I have?
- 23:52Speaker 8: Well, I have many.
- 23:53Speaker 7: I've always been a rumination man.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Maybe one of each rumination and a conto three very different.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I'd love one of each.
- 24:03Speaker 8: Okay, Well, One notion that I had is what if
- 24:09Speaker 8: Plato and Einstein were to have dinner together? And what
- 24:13Speaker 8: that conversation would look like? Or you put like, that
- 24:20Speaker 8: is the notion?
- 24:22Speaker 7: What what do you think? What do you think the conversation?
- 24:26Speaker 7: What would the conversation look like?
- 24:29Speaker 8: Well, that's the notion, is just the idea of them.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Posing the question of what it would be.
- 24:34Speaker 7: Got it?
- 24:35Speaker 1: It's posing the question and dialogue or anything of constructive criticism.
- 24:41Speaker 8: I am not looking for that at this time.
- 24:43Speaker 2: But I feel.
- 24:50Speaker 8: Of a rumination interesting, interesting, I will I I have been.
- 24:56Speaker 8: I have. I have been working on ruminatetions and notions
- 25:00Speaker 8: for several years now, and I think I have a
- 25:03Speaker 8: defined sort of concept of what's the difference is between
- 25:06Speaker 8: a notion and a rumination?
- 25:08Speaker 4: For you is what's the rumination? We wanted? Love with love?
- 25:12Speaker 4: An example of that.
- 25:14Speaker 8: Well, rumination is much like a notion, a proposing a
- 25:20Speaker 8: sort of concept, if you will, so one rumination, if I.
- 25:27Speaker 6: Will correct, okay, mom.
- 25:31Speaker 8: And a mother is one of the greatest artists. That
- 25:33Speaker 8: we have a child is is an incredible piece of work.
- 25:39Speaker 7: But the hospital, the delivery room is her canvas.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Yes, mm hmm.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Wait is that your rumination or do you have a
- 25:50Speaker 2: different one?
- 25:51Speaker 8: That was rumination? Those rumination That's how we bought. We
- 25:57Speaker 8: we bonded over are we we do? While we do
- 26:00Speaker 8: not know each other that well, we do share a
- 26:02Speaker 8: love of ruminations?
- 26:04Speaker 7: Great?
- 26:05Speaker 1: And so what was what was the third thing? It
- 26:06Speaker 1: was a notion, a rumination and a concept. I'd love concept.
- 26:11Speaker 8: Well, I thought of a concept recently that was what
- 26:15Speaker 8: if the idea of a like say Einstein, were to
- 26:24Speaker 8: have dinner with Steve Jobs and what that would perhaps
- 26:29Speaker 8: look like.
- 26:32Speaker 1: And what the conversation is rumination?
- 26:35Speaker 7: I'm sorry and leave them alone.
- 26:38Speaker 1: And there's so much potentially here.
- 26:40Speaker 4: This is something I learned in if someone looks a
- 26:44Speaker 4: certain way, you don't give them notes. Okay, okay, buddy.
- 26:50Speaker 3: You learn to having kids too?
- 26:55Speaker 2: Well, that's great. What's everybody else working on? We got
- 26:57Speaker 2: that's great. Well, my morning is kind of like I'll
- 27:00Speaker 2: show up and I'll get my freaking red bulls and eggs.
- 27:04Speaker 2: If they let me have eggs, depends on who's serving.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Usually Nikki does not like giving me eggs.
- 27:09Speaker 4: Nikky's a boa buster man.
- 27:12Speaker 2: She is harsh. She's harsh. So I'll drink about a
- 27:18Speaker 2: red bull and a half and then I'll just start
- 27:20Speaker 2: cranking away emails, making calls to people, making calls to
- 27:24Speaker 2: agents and managers and creatives, and just lining up my day,
- 27:29Speaker 2: you know, lining up the week, trying to like get collabs,
- 27:32Speaker 2: trying to figure out new concepts. So I've got a
- 27:35Speaker 2: whole journal of just kind of like you guys, just
- 27:37Speaker 2: TikTok ideas and YouTube ideas, and then I'll start filming.
- 27:42Speaker 2: And really big project that I'm working on right now
- 27:45Speaker 2: is just Inside from Bo Burnham. I really really liked it,
- 27:49Speaker 2: and I'm just trying to make it.
- 27:54Speaker 1: So you're recreating the special yourself.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Not I guess you could say it's recreating I'm kind
- 28:01Speaker 2: of just taking clips of it and adding like captions
- 28:05Speaker 2: or a little moment of me going like this clipt
- 28:08Speaker 2: this clip is crazy. Just stick around to the end.
- 28:12Speaker 2: And then I'll play it and it feels like it
- 28:14Speaker 2: belongs to me a little bit interesting. Yeah, and those
- 28:18Speaker 2: do really well, Like people really love bo Burnham and
- 28:20Speaker 2: I love to be bour.
- 28:21Speaker 1: And you consider this to be an art of your
- 28:24Speaker 1: own making?
- 28:25Speaker 2: Yeah for sure. I mean I made the video, did
- 28:29Speaker 2: I not? I made it? It's like Welcome to the Internet.
- 28:33Speaker 2: I'll go like sometimes I'll play Welcome to the Internet
- 28:36Speaker 2: at our mouth along We've got fun and games, and
- 28:40Speaker 2: then I'll stop.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Now, would you ever consider adapting your lip sync of
- 28:44Speaker 1: bo Burnham's inside into a short film?
- 28:47Speaker 8: Whoa?
- 28:50Speaker 3: Did you like that? Alfonso?
- 28:53Speaker 7: Yes? Okay, so you.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Love feedback on other people's stuff, not yours.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Ah, that sounds crazy. I'm not sure what a short
- 29:01Speaker 2: film is though, What is that?
- 29:02Speaker 4: Goodness?
- 29:03Speaker 1: You're I'm sorry, I'm sorry. That's so disrespectful, is it?
- 29:08Speaker 7: Like?
- 29:08Speaker 2: What platform?
- 29:09Speaker 1: A short film is the highest form of art there
- 29:12Speaker 1: could be.
- 29:13Speaker 2: It's a feature, so like a three minute so it's
- 29:16Speaker 2: like a three minute TikToker.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Really technically, anything under thirty minutes.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Like Dave Dave is a short film? Okay, show Dave,
- 29:25Speaker 2: maybe shorter, that's a TV show, TV show. Yeah, that
- 29:30Speaker 2: makes sense.
- 29:30Speaker 1: That's what you guys consider TV to be art used.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Oh, TVs are absolutely.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Interesting to elaborate.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Oh, it's just you know, there's shows. It's artist is
- 29:44Speaker 4: you take a feeling and you feel it and you
- 29:47Speaker 4: make itat for other people and they also connect to it.
- 29:50Speaker 4: So so much TV is like that, you know, the Sopranos,
- 29:56Speaker 4: really serious stuff and you yeah and you go wow
- 30:01Speaker 4: like and it makes you change your brain a little bit.
- 30:03Speaker 4: It's kind of what it was for me. So I
- 30:06Speaker 4: think it is just started, just like ballet, just like Oprah,
- 30:10Speaker 4: just like you know, all other kinds of art. It
- 30:12Speaker 4: is that too.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Oh Jeff, what are you working on? Because you work,
- 30:17Speaker 2: I mean you're walking around a lot. Yeah, but you're
- 30:21Speaker 2: also typing so loud sometimes, yes, Like you really have
- 30:26Speaker 2: really loud typing. And I've always been curious as to
- 30:29Speaker 2: what you're plugging away.
- 30:30Speaker 6: You know, my family when I come home and I
- 30:32Speaker 6: tell them about my day, I come home and I
- 30:34Speaker 6: tell them about tip Honnies, and then I tell them
- 30:35Speaker 6: about the crusty loud typer and crusty loud, krusty loud
- 30:41Speaker 6: type of treadmill. Because he's walking really by ass. He's
- 30:44Speaker 6: a crusty, crusty man. He smells.
- 30:46Speaker 3: That's what I think about you.
- 30:47Speaker 4: Oh, thank you. We always like to say in Russia,
- 30:52Speaker 4: we say, if you smell, that means you've earned it.
- 30:55Speaker 4: You worked your day away. So that's what I that's what.
- 30:59Speaker 4: So I'm writing a web series about a bunch of
- 31:04Speaker 4: people in an acting class with a crazy teacher, and
- 31:09Speaker 4: that it's based on my experiences in a current acting
- 31:13Speaker 4: class right now. And my teacher is crazy, and so
- 31:16Speaker 4: it's just a lot of fun. Yes, So he comes
- 31:20Speaker 4: in all the time, he's brugging in a coffee and
- 31:24Speaker 4: he's talk so much he spills coffee on the grounds.
- 31:27Speaker 4: He tells me, oh, if you don't memorize your lines,
- 31:30Speaker 4: you can't stay in the class. Stuff like that. It's
- 31:33Speaker 4: so funny. He's crazy. And then it's about a bunch
- 31:36Speaker 4: of other people in the class because my acting class
- 31:39Speaker 4: is my life. I love them and I'm best friends
- 31:42Speaker 4: with everybody in the class. And so I'm writing something
- 31:46Speaker 4: because they said, oh, we need to do something, so
- 31:48Speaker 4: I said, I'll make a movie about us, and so
- 31:50Speaker 4: that's what I'm working on.
- 31:53Speaker 2: That's what are you anybody else from your class working
- 31:56Speaker 2: on it?
- 31:57Speaker 4: They I seen him pages every single day and then
- 32:01Speaker 4: they all say they're going to get back to me
- 32:02Speaker 4: about it, and I just think I'll just keep working
- 32:05Speaker 4: and then when they have notes, they'll let me know.
- 32:07Speaker 2: And then please read us a scene. Can you just
- 32:10Speaker 2: read us a quick scene? I would love to hear
- 32:12Speaker 2: what you're writing.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Oh okay, I don't know. I'm a little shy. It's
- 32:17Speaker 4: never been come out loud before.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Or maybe we could do a cold breath.
- 32:21Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I have a bunch of so that would
- 32:25Speaker 4: be really fun. Okay, so this is okay, So I'll
- 32:29Speaker 4: pass on the scripts to everybody right now. I will
- 32:32Speaker 4: play Ostrov because that is my character. Let's see Brandon,
- 32:39Speaker 4: can you please play the kind of bad actor in
- 32:44Speaker 4: the class. His name is Spencer and this scene he's
- 32:49Speaker 4: just being really bad at acting. And then be there.
- 32:55Speaker 4: I really want to hear more about you, Mama Joy.
- 32:57Speaker 4: By the way, we really don't know.
- 33:00Speaker 2: It's almost like you disappeared for like thirty minutes.
- 33:03Speaker 3: Oh I saw.
- 33:03Speaker 6: Sorry, I should have said when I have to change
- 33:05Speaker 6: a diaper, I change diaper. That's why you see me
- 33:06Speaker 6: come in and out of a room at least five times.
- 33:09Speaker 7: Why don't you bring kids here in the car.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Do you live nearby?
- 33:13Speaker 4: Next? Okay, So, so you're reading for Spencer, Brandon Kitty,
- 33:18Speaker 4: you're reading for Eugenia. She is quiet in the back
- 33:23Speaker 4: of the class. Mama Joy. Can you please read for
- 33:28Speaker 4: uh the teacher him herself himself, his name is mister
- 33:34Speaker 4: smash and Uh, Alonso, can you please read? Can you
- 33:42Speaker 4: please read the uh the man who comes in at
- 33:46Speaker 4: the end and tells everyone that we have to leave
- 33:49Speaker 4: because there is a gas leak. That's the character.
- 33:53Speaker 8: It's very hard to take a different form of another person,
- 33:57Speaker 8: but I will do my.
- 33:58Speaker 4: Oh, okay, you can read as yourself. That's okay. And
- 34:03Speaker 4: then Alfonso, can you read stage directions please?
- 34:08Speaker 7: Yes? Stage directions are but God's wishes for our fictional characters.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Sure yeah, great action.
- 34:18Speaker 3: Glory to God.
- 34:22Speaker 7: Interior Acting class A group of modern day Thespians and
- 34:29Speaker 7: board Trotter's bandy about in merriment and reverie.
- 34:35Speaker 6: Okay, Spencer, you did a bad job. Spencer, explain what
- 34:40Speaker 6: your monologue is.
- 34:42Speaker 1: My monologue is about me leaving my wife. I don't
- 34:49Speaker 1: understand what I did wrong.
- 34:51Speaker 4: And then I go look into the camera. Man, these
- 34:54Speaker 4: guys stinks.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Here.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Let's he tried the monologue again, Deborah, I cannot do
- 35:06Speaker 1: this anymore. I really believe that we are meant to
- 35:10Speaker 1: be together. Won't you give me one more chance?
- 35:13Speaker 4: Oh boy, I hope he gets to the oscot for
- 35:16Speaker 4: a most worst.
- 35:20Speaker 1: That hurts my feelings.
- 35:21Speaker 4: Oh it looks like I was speaking of the camera
- 35:24Speaker 4: at that time.
- 35:27Speaker 7: The two students break into a fisty cuffs of sorts.
- 35:34Speaker 4: Hey watch it, Hey, watch it, And then you punch
- 35:37Speaker 4: me in the face. I fall on the ground.
- 35:39Speaker 7: Hey, hey, the fisty cuffs And.
- 35:47Speaker 8: Greetings everyone, it is I Alonzo I have. I am
- 35:51Speaker 8: a dream weaver of sorts concepts have her and a
- 35:55Speaker 8: notion taker, and I am here to inform everyone that
- 35:58Speaker 8: there has been a gast leak inside of the building. God,
- 36:04Speaker 8: thanks you.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Scene that was amazing everybody.
- 36:08Speaker 2: I Eugenia did not have a line. Yeah, you guys
- 36:13Speaker 2: really did make it your own.
- 36:17Speaker 8: M M. When I see other when I see the
- 36:19Speaker 8: texts of others, I cannot help but infuse it with
- 36:22Speaker 8: my liveliness.
- 36:24Speaker 3: And oh good on you.
- 36:25Speaker 4: I very collaborative. I love it when people give notes.
- 36:29Speaker 4: Can I use what you guys did in that scene?
- 36:31Speaker 4: Can I put it into this script.
- 36:32Speaker 7: Is that Okay, No, nope, my property is mine.
- 36:39Speaker 4: Well, this is an interesting conversation because this was my
- 36:43Speaker 4: script right, so technically it was.
- 36:45Speaker 8: Yes, but we we infuse it with our livelihood, so
- 36:49Speaker 8: by doing that, it has also become our property.
- 36:54Speaker 6: Okay, I'm unfortunately with the murderers on this one, and
- 36:59Speaker 6: I'm a joy.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Do you believe they have murdered or is this just.
- 37:03Speaker 6: Your just my silly little nickname I have for them
- 37:05Speaker 6: when I talk to my husband after a long day,
- 37:08Speaker 6: silly little nickname, Kitty.
- 37:09Speaker 4: I do want to apologize. There was no Eugenia scene, but.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Just said Eugenia was quiet, and then she didn't have
- 37:14Speaker 2: a line. There is no line or anything for Eugenie.
- 37:17Speaker 4: But we failed.
- 37:17Speaker 2: You just described her as quiet.
- 37:18Speaker 4: I felt your presence. It was really good. She has
- 37:21Speaker 4: a monologue at the end that makes me cry every
- 37:24Speaker 4: time I rewrite it, so it's really good.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Now I have a couple of notes.
- 37:30Speaker 4: If you don't, I do mind, but go for it.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Well only if you want them, Brandon, God, this is
- 37:38Speaker 1: a this is an environment full of artists.
- 37:40Speaker 8: I just know.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Yes, you're right.
- 37:41Speaker 4: I'm so sorry. I was knocked down a little bit
- 37:43Speaker 4: by the uh, the litigation I'm gonna have to get
- 37:46Speaker 4: into with Alon, so I'm a little upset about that,
- 37:49Speaker 4: but I would love to hear your thoughts yet.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Well, not to kick an artist when he's down, But
- 37:54Speaker 1: I had some thoughts about Spencer's lines. They were rather
- 37:59Speaker 1: hard to act because they were rather hard to say.
- 38:03Speaker 1: And I think the reason that I wasn't giving it
- 38:06Speaker 1: my all back there was because I didn't understand his intention,
- 38:11Speaker 1: and I really just thought that his lines should be
- 38:16Speaker 1: easier and clearer for an actor to jump into, and
- 38:20Speaker 1: that is why the performance was lacking. Was because I
- 38:22Speaker 1: believe of the dialogue that you wrote.
- 38:25Speaker 2: For him cast me as Spencer.
- 38:28Speaker 1: I would also say, I think it should be set
- 38:31Speaker 1: in the nineteen forties. Do you disagree?
- 38:33Speaker 2: I do?
- 38:33Speaker 4: I do. I don't know anything about that. I love
- 38:37Speaker 4: to write what I know. For me, art is translating
- 38:41Speaker 4: what happened and pushing it into the world, So I
- 38:45Speaker 4: don't know anything about the forties. It's spacially because to.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Me, this script reads so World War two. It's dripping
- 38:53Speaker 1: with post depression, the war part the fisticuffs.
- 39:01Speaker 4: To clear, I did not put in the word fisticuffs
- 39:03Speaker 4: and that was Alfonso.
- 39:06Speaker 7: The text said fight, and I found that to be
- 39:08Speaker 7: a rather dreary moniker of sorts.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Can I jump in and say I would love to
- 39:15Speaker 2: be in this. I thought it was so funny from
- 39:17Speaker 2: top to bottom. You really like when the character turned
- 39:20Speaker 2: and said, like, Wow, this guy sucks. I thought that
- 39:23Speaker 2: was genius, and like, that's the kind of humor I love,
- 39:26Speaker 2: just like crazy off the wall stuff. Expect me.
- 39:30Speaker 4: I think it's funny too. That's really nice to hear.
- 39:33Speaker 4: I gotta know what Mama Joy is working on. I
- 39:36Speaker 4: have from you?
- 39:37Speaker 1: What are you fighting?
- 39:40Speaker 2: Uh?
- 39:41Speaker 3: Every day it's something different.
- 39:42Speaker 6: I start with my morning pages and I do them
- 39:45Speaker 6: at Aroma. And when I have my husband drive over
- 39:50Speaker 6: my kids, you asked, are my kids? Because I change
- 39:53Speaker 6: your diapers at Aroma? So I have my husband drive
- 39:56Speaker 6: my kids over because.
- 39:57Speaker 3: I don't want to touch them.
- 39:59Speaker 4: I don't want to want to touch my kids.
- 40:01Speaker 7: I don't like it.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Is he his? Are they? Are they his kids as well?
- 40:05Speaker 3: There is? But when it gets down to die for time,
- 40:08Speaker 3: I don't want him to touch the kids.
- 40:12Speaker 2: Okay, is it your Is your husband a creep? No?
- 40:18Speaker 3: I just I think all manner murderers.
- 40:21Speaker 6: So I have him drive my kid's over and then
- 40:25Speaker 6: I do uh doctor time in between. But while I'm
- 40:29Speaker 6: at Roma, I'm usually writing screenplays. Sometimes when I'm bored
- 40:33Speaker 6: and I run out of inspiration about the story of
- 40:34Speaker 6: my children's birth, and I kind of make it like
- 40:37Speaker 6: a screenplay. But usually, uh, my favorite movie is up
- 40:42Speaker 6: in the air, and I try to make movies like that.
- 40:45Speaker 1: George Clooney, So you're not.
- 40:48Speaker 2: You're just kind of starting new every single day on
- 40:50Speaker 2: a new project. Have you finished a project?
- 40:53Speaker 3: No, I feel no, I haven't.
- 40:57Speaker 2: I guess that's a good question for everybody. Has anybody
- 40:59Speaker 2: finished pro longer than two pages?
- 41:04Speaker 1: Twenty four pages? Here?
- 41:07Speaker 2: Well, yeah, you're not done. You're not done.
- 41:09Speaker 1: You're not done, right, Yeah, well I'm done with the
- 41:11Speaker 1: twenty four pages.
- 41:12Speaker 4: Why couldn't script these two hundred and fifty four pages?
- 41:15Speaker 4: But I just got to act to.
- 41:18Speaker 2: And this is a website, web series.
- 41:20Speaker 4: A junk draft. I'm doing a junk draft, Mama Joy.
- 41:25Speaker 4: I want to tell you you give nicknames to everybody.
- 41:28Speaker 4: I give you a nickname. It's desktop lady. You bring
- 41:31Speaker 4: your big computer and you set it up right in
- 41:33Speaker 4: the middle.
- 41:33Speaker 3: I do.
- 41:34Speaker 5: I do.
- 41:35Speaker 7: Uh.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Some may call me adale gal.
- 41:38Speaker 4: They do call you because you blast adele too.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Yeah, a hermit.
- 41:43Speaker 6: Some may call me uh del gal, but boy do
- 41:49Speaker 6: I love my British singers.
- 41:51Speaker 4: They call you adel gal and adele gal.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Yes, it's sometimes it's tough because it's competing with the
- 41:57Speaker 2: already established music of Aroma Coffee. Very tough to go
- 42:01Speaker 2: over to your corner of the things because it just
- 42:04Speaker 2: two songs, different tempos, different bpm. It's a mess. It's
- 42:09Speaker 2: an absolute mess.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Does anyone else struggle with the lack of Wi Fi?
- 42:16Speaker 4: Huge time, huge time?
- 42:18Speaker 7: Yes, I've never done no no. I was going to say,
- 42:26Speaker 7: I love the music selections of the Aroma Cafe. A
- 42:32Speaker 7: lot of new radicals. You only get what you give.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Yeah, Blur, they play a lot of Blur.
- 42:38Speaker 3: It's a lot of time.
- 42:41Speaker 2: A little him, a little him. Yeah, it seems like
- 42:44Speaker 2: they typed in indie rock and that's what they play.
- 42:50Speaker 7: Mm hmm, Grizzly Bear.
- 42:54Speaker 3: What is everyone working on right now? Currently?
- 42:56Speaker 6: I know some of what some of what's going on
- 42:59Speaker 6: right now or what's on what's on the horizon, what's next?
- 43:02Speaker 1: Oh well, I'm hoping to at some point get a
- 43:08Speaker 1: meeting with some sort of representative. That is my next goal,
- 43:16Speaker 1: because I believe that with these twenty four pages I
- 43:20Speaker 1: can show you know that this will be absolutely massive.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Wait, can we read of yours? I want to do
- 43:29Speaker 2: a reading of one of yours. We missed yours absolutely.
- 43:32Speaker 1: I mean, I'm very private about it, but I'm I'm
- 43:34Speaker 1: you know, I'm always looking for feedback for other artists.
- 43:37Speaker 2: So what's it about again?
- 43:38Speaker 8: So?
- 43:39Speaker 1: This is a mid Great Depression story of a man
- 43:46Speaker 1: who has lost his shoes in the river, and it's
- 43:51Speaker 1: sort of like an abstract situation where he is trying
- 43:57Speaker 1: to find them as the ghosts of his family are
- 44:02Speaker 1: haunting him in his mind and we never know if
- 44:06Speaker 1: it's a hallucination or if it's real. But in the
- 44:10Speaker 1: third act, I have it all written in my head.
- 44:12Speaker 1: I just haven't written it down yet. It's gonna become
- 44:15Speaker 1: very clear what the answer is. But as of right now,
- 44:17Speaker 1: I cannot tell you. I cannot tell you. Great. So
- 44:22Speaker 1: let's cast this. Let's have Kitty. Can you play our
- 44:29Speaker 1: leading man Jonathan as he's walking through the river, and
- 44:35Speaker 1: everyone else doesn't really have technical character names. It's sort
- 44:40Speaker 1: of just hallowed spirit one hallowd Spirit two, Hallard Spirit three,
- 44:44Speaker 1: held Spirit four. So just fill in as those as
- 44:48Speaker 1: we go and I will read stage directions.
- 44:50Speaker 7: Okay, can I play mother Gaia?
- 44:54Speaker 1: Technically hallowed Spirit number three would be you. But if
- 44:58Speaker 1: you need to make it your own, I understand. I
- 45:00Speaker 1: really just need to hear it out loud.
- 45:04Speaker 4: Exterior, Be careful, Okay.
- 45:09Speaker 1: I am afraid of what's about to happen.
- 45:11Speaker 3: Oh who's that pee?
- 45:12Speaker 7: Is that?
- 45:13Speaker 4: Now?
- 45:14Speaker 7: Hands up?
- 45:15Speaker 4: Who's that?
- 45:15Speaker 2: P is it?
- 45:16Speaker 8: Wait?
- 45:16Speaker 1: Maybe this is a bad idea, this is maybe let's
- 45:19Speaker 1: do it.
- 45:20Speaker 4: Let's do it.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Exterior incredible movie about the Great Depression Day. Jonathan walks,
- 45:29Speaker 1: the ghosts of his shadows bearing down on his chest
- 45:33Speaker 1: before him. He searches high and low for his shoes
- 45:37Speaker 1: in the train tracks.
- 45:40Speaker 2: My shoes, Where could they be? I'm just a man
- 45:43Speaker 2: looking for my shoes. My shoes, What a simple, simple,
- 45:48Speaker 2: simple simple thing. Shoes shoes for boys to walk in.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Funny four spirits enter from off stage. They swirl around him.
- 46:03Speaker 4: You you you?
- 46:09Speaker 8: Whoa?
- 46:10Speaker 2: What what is this? A spirit's from my past?
- 46:15Speaker 7: Greetings from the spirit world. My name is Alonso.
- 46:23Speaker 3: I lost my place. I don't know where.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Well receive notes. There's just a lot of blank pages.
- 46:30Speaker 2: It feels like you double spaced or quadrupled space this
- 46:33Speaker 2: thing out.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Well, I have quadruple spaced it as a stylistic choice.
- 46:36Speaker 1: I guess technically when you put it into Celtics. Uh,
- 46:40Speaker 1: it is about seven pages.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Let's keep going. Let's keep going, well, spirits, what do
- 46:47Speaker 2: you ask of me. I'm just a simple man looking
- 46:50Speaker 2: for my shoes.
- 46:54Speaker 4: You are going to die like we did.
- 47:00Speaker 8: Gree teens. It is I Alonso. By speaking these words,
- 47:04Speaker 8: I have gained intellectual property ownership over the following piece.
- 47:08Speaker 8: And I would like to say that I am a
- 47:13Speaker 8: dream weaver, a notion ha of sorts, an equation solver,
- 47:18Speaker 8: and I would advise for you to uh not to
- 47:24Speaker 8: do as I did.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Okay, so your line was supposed to be, Jonathan, I
- 47:29Speaker 1: am your grandfather.
- 47:31Speaker 8: I decided to take artistic liberties with my line and
- 47:34Speaker 8: infuse it with my.
- 47:35Speaker 3: Span to place the Appy game, the Appy game.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Give me, give me those back, give me those back,
- 47:43Speaker 1: and give me those back.
- 47:44Speaker 7: This is it, They're mine. Now I'm taking all the pages.
- 47:48Speaker 2: It's that is all right, man, that's actually pretty cool art.
- 47:52Speaker 1: No, you can't steal it. You're going to make the
- 47:54Speaker 1: movie and you're going to be famous.
- 47:56Speaker 4: Brandon, You'll never see those pages again. I don't know
- 47:58Speaker 4: which boocket those waiting into. In that trench quote, there's
- 48:01Speaker 4: so many buckets in there.
- 48:03Speaker 1: God, God, how am I?
- 48:05Speaker 8: How?
- 48:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to start over. It's gonna take me
- 48:08Speaker 1: twelve years to think of a new idea.
- 48:10Speaker 3: This.
- 48:11Speaker 1: You have to guard your ideas like gold.
- 48:14Speaker 8: I can present you with an idea that could perhaps
- 48:16Speaker 8: be a short film for your for you.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Well, okay, I'm desperate.
- 48:23Speaker 8: So this was a rumination that I had the other day,
- 48:26Speaker 8: is what if the pharaoh was met had dinner with
- 48:34Speaker 8: Plato and Steve Jobs? And what the conversation your other.
- 48:39Speaker 3: Ruminations had to do with Steve Jobs.
- 48:41Speaker 6: I think the last one was with a dinner with
- 48:43Speaker 6: Steve Jobs. But some of the other people.
- 48:45Speaker 4: Can I ask a question, I loan, so which pharaoh?
- 48:51Speaker 7: Well, the pharaoh of what time of Egypt?
- 48:57Speaker 4: But there were thousands of pharaohs over thousands of years.
- 49:03Speaker 8: Well, the pharaoh is more of a concept in my minds.
- 49:09Speaker 1: And the mom except within too. Your notion. That's fascinating.
- 49:13Speaker 1: I didn't know you could do both at once.
- 49:15Speaker 2: You can, Brandy, you should take that, dude. That's a
- 49:18Speaker 2: solid idea. People love that Steve Jobs thing.
- 49:22Speaker 1: I mean, I could I could foresee myself putting my
- 49:26Speaker 1: own spin on this if I took you know, your
- 49:29Speaker 1: idea and my raw unbelievable talent as a screenwriter. I
- 49:35Speaker 1: believe that we could. Collaboration could work if you were you.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Guys should collab you guys should definitely all three everybody
- 49:43Speaker 2: should collabse like we could actually like combine forces here
- 49:46Speaker 2: and like make something.
- 49:49Speaker 4: If we all made something, what would what would we make?
- 49:52Speaker 2: It'd be so cool. We could like do like some
- 49:54Speaker 2: sort of like tiktoks or movies or something like that
- 49:58Speaker 2: that's like about like just a bunch of people, the
- 50:01Speaker 2: different lives of people at a coffee shop, and then
- 50:04Speaker 2: like we go to everybody's life and then like and
- 50:06Speaker 2: then it would be like a big climax or something
- 50:09Speaker 2: that's fascinating.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Have you ever stopped to think that maybe we're the movie?
- 50:14Speaker 1: You know that sounds like a rumination. Oh my god,
- 50:18Speaker 1: Oh my god, I just did one.
- 50:20Speaker 3: I have one. I want to try one.
- 50:23Speaker 4: MM.
- 50:24Speaker 6: Why do I run away to a coffee shop every
- 50:26Speaker 6: day to get away from my slimmy husband.
- 50:31Speaker 3: How's that one?
- 50:32Speaker 8: I was wonderful.
- 50:34Speaker 2: I guess that's a rumination that feels like more of
- 50:36Speaker 2: a deep secret.
- 50:37Speaker 3: Is it a question or Okay?
- 50:38Speaker 6: I don't understand these ruminations, but I have fun trying them.
- 50:43Speaker 7: I like your spirit well with joy, very artistic spirit.
- 50:49Speaker 8: Of sorts.
- 50:50Speaker 3: God's dead.
- 50:53Speaker 1: I have a question, what does everyone want to do
- 50:58Speaker 1: in this field? Are we interested in writing, in directing,
- 51:03Speaker 1: in acting? I myself fancy myself a screenwriter. That's my
- 51:08Speaker 1: full time job.
- 51:10Speaker 3: Is that how you make money? That's not how you
- 51:12Speaker 3: pay rent?
- 51:12Speaker 1: Though, no, my parents are rich. I come from money.
- 51:17Speaker 3: Let's all how we pay rent?
- 51:20Speaker 7: I pay rent with my father's oil money. Okay, he
- 51:30Speaker 7: has a fracking fortune, oh worth quite a bit. Fracking
- 51:35Speaker 7: is kind of like poetry of the earth.
- 51:37Speaker 1: M m. But some would argue that it's deeply irreparably
- 51:42Speaker 1: harming the earth.
- 51:45Speaker 7: Isn't art also irreparably harming the earth?
- 51:49Speaker 1: I would, I would argue strongly, not.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Dang. I guess art to you guys, it kind of
- 51:58Speaker 2: harms you, guys like my put a bag over ahead
- 52:02Speaker 2: of a stranger challenge. Sorry about that one too.
- 52:07Speaker 7: I thought it was beautiful. Thank you for including to
- 52:10Speaker 7: be Thank you for including me inside your bag.
- 52:14Speaker 6: Sometimes I think, Alfonso, if I say one thing, you'll
- 52:17Speaker 6: just say the opposite.
- 52:20Speaker 3: Black.
- 52:20Speaker 6: I love Aroma cafes, banana nut lattes.
- 52:24Speaker 3: I'm gonna guess you hate them.
- 52:27Speaker 7: I don't care for them. Yes, I only like the
- 52:29Speaker 7: Keish Lorraine, the only food I can eat Alonzo.
- 52:35Speaker 4: What do you do for money?
- 52:38Speaker 8: Well, my father is the president of Saudi Arabia and
- 52:41Speaker 8: my mother is the CEO of x On Mobile. Okay,
- 52:47Speaker 8: girl boss, yes, thank you, I will tell her that.
- 52:56Speaker 2: Yeah, my dad is famous actor. You guys might know him.
- 53:06Speaker 2: I don't know if you guys know. Do you guys
- 53:08Speaker 2: know Tom Hanks? Yes, yes, yes, that's my uncle. Yeah, yeah,
- 53:17Speaker 2: that's my uncle.
- 53:19Speaker 1: Your dad is a famous actor as well.
- 53:21Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the famous actor. We don't like to talk
- 53:24Speaker 2: about it how they're related, but okay, what's his name?
- 53:31Speaker 2: Do you guys know? Tom?
- 53:32Speaker 1: Cruise Way, no idea they were related.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Don't cruise and to Hanks brothers, their brothers, their brothers
- 53:40Speaker 2: through marriage. So my stepdad my step uncle. Well, I'm
- 53:45Speaker 2: not Yes, he's just my uncle.
- 53:47Speaker 4: I'm not from money. I work really hard. To be here.
- 53:50Speaker 4: You're not live in a house with eight other people
- 53:53Speaker 4: in Sun Valley. And actually I work at Aroma at
- 53:58Speaker 4: night inner shift to my way to over there, So
- 54:02Speaker 4: that's you know, some of you have seen me take
- 54:05Speaker 4: down the laptop and take up the apron.
- 54:08Speaker 3: That's why you go back there all the time. I
- 54:10Speaker 3: just thought you thought the bathroom was back there.
- 54:12Speaker 4: No, I know where the bathroom is.
- 54:15Speaker 3: You're a crusty man.
- 54:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I know. It's I really like all the people
- 54:20Speaker 4: that work there, and they look after me, and it's
- 54:24Speaker 4: a really nice place to be. To be honest, I
- 54:27Speaker 4: love you, and that's why I see you guys as
- 54:29Speaker 4: my family a little bit as well, because I get
- 54:31Speaker 4: to know everyone so much.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Oh oh yeah, yeah, I guess you guys are like
- 54:37Speaker 2: my family. Yeah, totally.
- 54:41Speaker 1: We should be getting together. We should be workshopping. We
- 54:44Speaker 1: shouldn't be relying on some sort of corporate outside indie
- 54:48Speaker 1: podcast forced to bring us all together. We should be
- 54:53Speaker 1: sitting in a room hashing shit out. You should throwing
- 54:57Speaker 1: shit at a wall and seeing what sticks agree.
- 55:00Speaker 4: I mean, this was amazing. I feel so close to
- 55:03Speaker 4: all of you now. I feel like we really collected.
- 55:07Speaker 4: Can we do we all have cell phones. Can I
- 55:09Speaker 4: trade my number and we can figure that out after this?
- 55:14Speaker 1: Yes? Yes, of course. Let's well, I don't really use
- 55:18Speaker 1: my cell phones, so I'd have to go home and
- 55:20Speaker 1: charge it, but I will bring it back to you.
- 55:22Speaker 1: We should be definitely doing this. And can I just
- 55:24Speaker 1: say thank you so much? This is the first networking
- 55:28Speaker 1: event I've ever been to in my twelve years that
- 55:31Speaker 1: I've been here, and it's fascinating. I feel like we're
- 55:35Speaker 1: on the up and up.
- 55:37Speaker 7: I feel like we're a community of poets to rival
- 55:41Speaker 7: the Algonquin Roundtable.
- 55:43Speaker 2: Sure, what's that? That sounds tight?
- 55:47Speaker 7: I could do that, m You'll have to research it.
- 55:51Speaker 7: The group of free thinkers and thespians who gathered much
- 55:57Speaker 7: like we are right now, to exchange ideas of so
- 56:00Speaker 7: sorts and conceptions alter each other's conceptions.
- 56:05Speaker 2: Sound do they do like videos? Are they like like Brockhampton?
- 56:09Speaker 8: Like?
- 56:09Speaker 2: Do they rap?
- 56:12Speaker 7: I do not know this. Brockhampton of yours sounds like?
- 56:18Speaker 2: Sounds like you would love Rockhampton. I feel like the
- 56:21Speaker 2: beats and like their lyrics. You guys would love Brockhampton.
- 56:26Speaker 7: If he's anything like the New Radicals, I will enjoy him.
- 56:32Speaker 2: Brockhampton is not him. It's like a collective of like guys.
- 56:37Speaker 4: His name is the Brokehampton.
- 56:40Speaker 7: Mm hmmm, it's a collective much like us.
- 56:43Speaker 2: Yes, that's yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 56:48Speaker 4: So mm hmmm.
- 56:56Speaker 2: Can we all like maybe like give like one piece
- 57:00Speaker 2: of like advice to the world because we yes, yes, yes.
- 57:03Speaker 1: We clearly we all know so much here.
- 57:07Speaker 2: So go first, grind, get up and grind, Get red bull,
- 57:14Speaker 2: get coffee, get whatever the world is your oyster. You
- 57:18Speaker 2: have so many possibilities now to become successful and like
- 57:22Speaker 2: get guess what, you're competing with every single person in
- 57:25Speaker 2: the world. And some people just make food and some
- 57:28Speaker 2: people just make other things. And that's your competition every
- 57:32Speaker 2: single day. So rise the challenge and start grinding and
- 57:34Speaker 2: hit me up if you want to collab.
- 57:39Speaker 1: I would say write it in your head first, take
- 57:44Speaker 1: as much time as you need. Tarantino waited, you know,
- 57:48Speaker 1: Scorsese waited, Jordan Peele, he waited, everybody waited, and so
- 57:57Speaker 1: make sure you have it fully formed, however that may
- 58:00Speaker 1: take before you put it down. And that's just a
- 58:03Speaker 1: little something I've learned from my twelve years in the industry.
- 58:12Speaker 4: I would say, inspiration is everywhere. It is exciting to
- 58:18Speaker 4: live your life and take big risks. You know, I
- 58:23Speaker 4: was basically set up to be the leader of the
- 58:31Speaker 4: Democratic Republic of Russia. We were going to take over
- 58:35Speaker 4: the country and we were going to change.
- 58:36Speaker 3: Everything, and oh wow.
- 58:39Speaker 4: We didn't get into that today, but we really the
- 58:43Speaker 4: numbers were correct, and we were going to overthrow Putin.
