- 0:05Speaker 1: Hello, friends from across the nation and around the world.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm Martin, and you are listening to Dad's bedtime stories.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Tonight's episode is about something that's been on my mind lately.
- 0:19Speaker 1: As many of you know, I live in Ontario, Canada,
- 0:24Speaker 1: and if you've been watching the news or possibly have
- 0:27Speaker 1: been impacted by poor air quality due to a whole
- 0:31Speaker 1: bunch of fire smoke coming from Canada, then you know
- 0:36Speaker 1: that there's a whole bunch of forest fires in Canada
- 0:39Speaker 1: right now. I have even had people from Australia, the US,
- 0:45Speaker 1: and the UK reach out to make sure I'm okay
- 0:49Speaker 1: and staying away from the fires. So I'd like to
- 0:52Speaker 1: start by assuring everyone that I'm actually very far from them.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Ontario is really, really big. It's about twice the size
- 0:59Speaker 1: of Texas, and most of the fires are pretty far
- 1:03Speaker 1: northwest of where I am, so you don't have to
- 1:07Speaker 1: worry about me, but you know I am worried about
- 1:11Speaker 1: many people who are a lot closer to them and
- 1:14Speaker 1: who have been impacted by those fires. And yeah, I
- 1:18Speaker 1: don't know if I have any listeners up there, but
- 1:19Speaker 1: if I do, I'm really thinking about you guys. I
- 1:22Speaker 1: hope everything's Okay. Tonight's episode is certainly sort of a
- 1:27Speaker 1: fantasy based episode, asking the question of, you know, if
- 1:32Speaker 1: we really did have a magical spaceship or other powers
- 1:37Speaker 1: from the podcast, how would we possibly help in this situation?
- 1:42Speaker 1: And well, in reality, there are no magical solutions in
- 1:47Speaker 1: the podcast, there are and hopefully it doesn't hurt anything
- 1:50Speaker 1: to use our imaginations and you know, imagine ourselves helping out.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So that's what we're going to do tonight, and we
- 1:59Speaker 1: are going to open up the story verse and bring
- 2:02Speaker 1: in different versions of you from a whole bunch of
- 2:06Speaker 1: different universes. Spaceship, Dragon Knights, Kid Wizard, I haven't seen
- 2:14Speaker 1: Kid Wizard in a while, Quantum, and who knows what else.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Before we do that, there's just a few shoutouts. I
- 2:22Speaker 1: want to give, first of all, shout out to all
- 2:25Speaker 1: of the firefighters and personnel who are actually working on
- 2:29Speaker 1: fighting these fires. I'm sure many of you have you
- 2:34Speaker 1: left your families to go off and battle these things,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and that's really really appreciated. I'm honestly not sure if
- 2:42Speaker 1: I have any listeners who have firefighting family members, but
- 2:47Speaker 1: we're thinking about you if we do. I also want
- 2:51Speaker 1: to give a few shoutouts to some new Patreon people here.
- 2:55Speaker 1: First of all, thank you to THEO from Grant's or
- 3:00Speaker 1: again for signing up to Patreon. I really really appreciate that.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And next up, thank you to Caden and Skuyler for
- 3:10Speaker 1: supporting me on Patreon as well. All of your support
- 3:14Speaker 1: keeps the podcast alive and it's really really appreciated. But
- 3:18Speaker 1: now it's time to get onto the story. After a
- 3:22Speaker 1: possible word from a possible sponsor. If you're not listening
- 3:24Speaker 1: on Patreon, of course, close your eyes, get as comfy
- 3:30Speaker 1: as you can in that bed, and imagine yourself doing
- 3:34Speaker 1: what the kid in the story does. Imagine yourself waking
- 3:41Speaker 1: up on spaceship alert Alert Alert alert. Huh what is it, spaceship,
- 3:52Speaker 1: you say, as you sit up in your bed and
- 3:56Speaker 1: swing your legs over the side. I ambracive important news
- 4:01Speaker 1: from Earth. It seems that Canada is experiencing a major
- 4:07Speaker 1: wildfire season. As of today, nine hundred and fifty active
- 4:14Speaker 1: wildfires are burning across the country. Many of them have
- 4:18Speaker 1: spread across the vast boreal forest. Some provinces, such as Ontario,
- 4:25Speaker 1: have been hit particularly hard, though there are fires in
- 4:30Speaker 1: many provinces. Ah that doesn't sound good. Anything we can
- 4:36Speaker 1: do to help, I believe so. Setting a course now,
- 4:43Speaker 1: instant transportation systems activated. In the blink of an eye,
- 4:50Speaker 1: spaceship disappears from where it was in space and reappears
- 4:57Speaker 1: high above the earth over top of North America. You
- 5:04Speaker 1: sit down in the pilot's seat and well carefully steer
- 5:08Speaker 1: the ship through the atmosphere below the clouds until you
- 5:15Speaker 1: see huge plumes of smoke and fire rising up from
- 5:21Speaker 1: the ground. The fires look huge. How can we help
- 5:28Speaker 1: with something like this? And how did this even start?
- 5:33Speaker 1: You ask? Well to answer your second question. First, most
- 5:39Speaker 1: of the fires have started by lightning, a natural occurrence,
- 5:44Speaker 1: though some have been caused by people. In answer to
- 5:50Speaker 1: your first question, on top of our advanced technology, we
- 5:55Speaker 1: have the ability to mimic other firefighting equipment. I thought
- 6:01Speaker 1: it could be a good idea to learn some of
- 6:04Speaker 1: the options. The main display lights up with a number
- 6:09Speaker 1: of different blueprints. Option one heavy lift firefighting helicopter. These
- 6:17Speaker 1: machines are very precise. You can scoop water from almost
- 6:22Speaker 1: any nearby lake or river and drop it exactly where needed.
- 6:28Speaker 1: The downside is you carry much less water than the
- 6:33Speaker 1: airplane equivalents, so many trips are needed. The helicopter disappears
- 6:40Speaker 1: from the display and is replaced by a sleek, twin
- 6:46Speaker 1: engine airplane. Option two the air tractor water bomber. Fast,
- 6:53Speaker 1: agile and excellent for smaller fires or protecting individual buildings.
- 7:01Speaker 1: It carries more water than the helicopter, but less than
- 7:05Speaker 1: larger bombers. The ship disappears and is replaced by a
- 7:11Speaker 1: larger one. A huge red and white aircraft glides into view.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Option three the Canadair CL four one five, one of
- 7:25Speaker 1: the world's most famous water bombers. Designed in Canada. It
- 7:31Speaker 1: is capable of skimming across the surface of a lake,
- 7:35Speaker 1: scooping up thousands of leaders of water in only about
- 7:40Speaker 1: twelve seconds, and being back over the fire moments later.
- 7:46Speaker 1: It is larger than other aircraft and needs bigger lakes
- 7:51Speaker 1: and more room to maneuver, but when it comes to
- 7:56Speaker 1: fighting large forest fires it is one of the best
- 7:59Speaker 1: machine ever built. The plane disappears from the screen and
- 8:05Speaker 1: is replaced by another enormous aircraft. Option four a large
- 8:11Speaker 1: air tanker. Air tankers carry huge amounts of fire retardant.
- 8:17Speaker 1: This slows the spread of flames instead of putting them
- 8:21Speaker 1: out directly. Very effective for building protective lines of fire. However,
- 8:28Speaker 1: you must return to an airport to reload. Water cannot
- 8:33Speaker 1: be scooped from lakes. All those all look pretty cool,
- 8:39Speaker 1: but it seems to me that the COL four fifteen
- 8:44Speaker 1: is the right choice. I believe you are correct transformation initiated.
- 8:53Speaker 1: What do you mean transformation, you ask, as the entire
- 8:57Speaker 1: spaceship starts to glow around round you slowly and starts
- 9:03Speaker 1: to change shape. Huge wings stretch out to the sides,
- 9:09Speaker 1: wings with very large propellers. Before long, you find yourself
- 9:16Speaker 1: sitting in well a high tech equivalent of the CL
- 9:21Speaker 1: four fifteen, almost a mix between your spaceship and this
- 9:27Speaker 1: particular aircraft. Now, in order to help fight the fires,
- 9:33Speaker 1: we will need to start by scooping up some water.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I have located a nearby lake that should be large enough,
- 9:43Speaker 1: spaceship says, displaying a lake on the map ahead of you.
- 9:48Speaker 1: You grab a hold of the controls and carefully steer
- 9:53Speaker 1: the plane down into the right until you see the
- 9:57Speaker 1: lake directly in front of you. Now the goal is
- 10:02Speaker 1: to scoop the water up. No need to lose major momentum.
- 10:07Speaker 1: I will open the water airtakes when needed. You carefully
- 10:13Speaker 1: fly down towards the lake. As soon as you pass
- 10:18Speaker 1: the layer of trees, you drop lower and lower until
- 10:24Speaker 1: the airplane begins to skim the surface of the water.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Water intakes opening ten percent, twenty thirty, forty fifty, sixty,
- 10:39Speaker 1: seventy eighty ninety one hundred percent, closing water intake, pull
- 10:48Speaker 1: ship up. You pull back on the steering weel, and
- 10:52Speaker 1: the ship lifts up off of the water again. All right,
- 10:58Speaker 1: now what you add? Ask? Now we put out some flames.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I have put a suggested path on the map. The
- 11:08Speaker 1: goal is to whet the area just in front of
- 11:12Speaker 1: the active flames in order to slow the fire. Warning
- 11:18Speaker 1: there are other aircraft active in this area. Careful, I
- 11:23Speaker 1: will take care of communication with the other aircraft and
- 11:28Speaker 1: ensure we are coordinating appropriately. Simply follow my direction. You
- 11:36Speaker 1: follow the arrow on the map to the exact area
- 11:40Speaker 1: where spaceship wants you to drop the water. Hit the
- 11:44Speaker 1: button on my mark three two one drop. You hit
- 11:52Speaker 1: a button on the controls, and suddenly thousands of leaders
- 11:58Speaker 1: of water from the belly of the plane, putting out
- 12:03Speaker 1: some of the flames below and while instantly soaking the
- 12:08Speaker 1: area ahead. Very good. Now we must repeat many many times.
- 12:17Speaker 1: You carefully circle the plane around, baim for the water again,
- 12:23Speaker 1: and repeat the same process, diving down to skim the
- 12:28Speaker 1: surface of the water, filling the tanks, pulling up and
- 12:33Speaker 1: dropping the water ahead of the fire. At the same time,
- 12:38Speaker 1: you see other planes and helicopters doing the same. Clearly,
- 12:44Speaker 1: what you're doing is putting a big dent in the fire,
- 12:47Speaker 1: getting it under control. However, the fire's just so incredibly big,
- 12:57Speaker 1: almost unfathomably large, Spaceship, I don't feel like we're doing enough.
- 13:06Speaker 1: This is working, but it's not working as fast as
- 13:10Speaker 1: i'd like. That is an excellent observation. Perhaps we could
- 13:16Speaker 1: use some additional help. Okay, what exactly do you have
- 13:22Speaker 1: in mind? Well? I have been skimming the multiverse for
- 13:28Speaker 1: different versions of you. While some of them are completely
- 13:34Speaker 1: useless for fighting fires, others prove very useful. A surprising
- 13:41Speaker 1: number of versions of you have access to dragons. For instance, Really,
- 13:48Speaker 1: there's versions of me that have dragons. Yes. For example,
- 13:55Speaker 1: on an Earth that I have labeled dragon Knight Earth,
- 14:00Speaker 1: there is a version of you who found a small
- 14:04Speaker 1: elemental dragon hatchling. The dragon is capable of controlling all
- 14:10Speaker 1: different elements, including water and fire. Uh okay, well that
- 14:18Speaker 1: could be useful. How will we get them or me here?
- 14:24Speaker 1: You ask? I will simply modify the ship's portal to
- 14:29Speaker 1: interface with other universes. I have done it before. All right, Well,
- 14:36Speaker 1: any other useful versions of me out there? Yes? Several?
- 14:42Speaker 1: In another universe one I believe you have interacted with before,
- 14:48Speaker 1: one I label the Cards of Power Universe. You have
- 14:53Speaker 1: access to a number of powerful cards, each one containing
- 14:59Speaker 1: a creature, sure or power. Many of these would be
- 15:04Speaker 1: quite useful for fighting fires. Okay, well that's a good option.
- 15:10Speaker 1: What else you got in another version? One I call
- 15:15Speaker 1: kid Wizard? You the kid Wizard are capable of various
- 15:22Speaker 1: different magical abilities. I believe you would be quite useful here.
- 15:29Speaker 1: All right, perfect, pencil that one into any anything else? Yes,
- 15:36Speaker 1: there is one more version of you that I believe
- 15:40Speaker 1: would be useful in this scenario. In the quantum universe,
- 15:45Speaker 1: there is a version of you that came into contact
- 15:50Speaker 1: with a quantum computer rather than a spaceship. This computer
- 15:56Speaker 1: was capable of building all sorts of different contraptions from
- 16:01Speaker 1: all sorts of different universes. You have developed a large
- 16:07Speaker 1: number of high tech gadgets and technology that I believe
- 16:13Speaker 1: could be used here. All right, well, what are we
- 16:18Speaker 1: waiting for? You ask, very good question. I believe, however,
- 16:25Speaker 1: we will need slightly more room. The ship pulls up
- 16:31Speaker 1: into the air, high above the clouds, and well begins
- 16:37Speaker 1: to transform again. The ship does something that a normal
- 16:42Speaker 1: Canadian water bomber can't do. The wings tilt upward, the
- 16:49Speaker 1: propellers expand into what can only be considered well small
- 16:54Speaker 1: helicopter blades, and the ship starts to hover. Then the
- 17:01Speaker 1: entire thing starts to glow a bright blue color, and
- 17:06Speaker 1: well grow larger and larger until the back of the
- 17:12Speaker 1: ship has a very very large cargo area. A slot
- 17:19Speaker 1: in the bottom of the ship slides open, and a
- 17:23Speaker 1: huge circular portal pops up out of it. The portal
- 17:28Speaker 1: lights up first a blue color, the one you're used
- 17:33Speaker 1: to before, transforming into more of a kind of purple. Then,
- 17:41Speaker 1: one by one, different versions of use step out. The
- 17:48Speaker 1: first one is wearing some kind of armor armor with
- 17:55Speaker 1: multiple colored different veins coursing through it. The individual looks
- 18:01Speaker 1: exactly like you, though possibly a little more battle weary,
- 18:08Speaker 1: and just behind This particular version of you steps a
- 18:14Speaker 1: gigantic black dragon with veins of all different colors as well. Hi,
- 18:24Speaker 1: you say, Hi. The other version of you replies, oh,
- 18:30Speaker 1: Hi there, The dragon says, I was told we were
- 18:34Speaker 1: coming to help with some sort of fire or something.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I love doing that. The dragon, whose name is apparently Ellie, says.
- 18:45Speaker 1: The force field flashes and another version of you steps out,
- 18:51Speaker 1: a version wearing well clothes that look kind of old timy,
- 18:57Speaker 1: kind of like a tunic, And this version has a
- 19:02Speaker 1: little black dragonling sitting on its shoulder. A. Hey, we're
- 19:07Speaker 1: here to help fight the fire. We in the right place.
- 19:12Speaker 1: The dragon ling says, yeah, just step over there, you suggest.
- 19:19Speaker 1: The portal flashes again, and out of its steps or
- 19:25Speaker 1: flies another version of you, only this one is standing
- 19:31Speaker 1: atop what looks to be a floating skateboard and carrying
- 19:37Speaker 1: a large wizard staff in their hand. Hi, if you're
- 19:43Speaker 1: here to fight the fire, you're in the right place.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Just move along over there, you say. The portal flashes again,
- 19:54Speaker 1: and a gigantic mechanical creature steps through. You soon see
- 20:02Speaker 1: that it's being piloted by well another version of you,
- 20:07Speaker 1: one that looks a lot closer to the you that
- 20:10Speaker 1: you are used to. The portal shuts off and sinks
- 20:16Speaker 1: back down into the floor. All right, everyone, different versions
- 20:24Speaker 1: of myself, thank you for coming from your various universes,
- 20:28Speaker 1: and you know, putting your own battles on pause. I
- 20:33Speaker 1: hear a lot of you have a lot going on.
- 20:36Speaker 1: They all seem to nod an agreement with that. Anyways,
- 20:41Speaker 1: in my particular universe, there's quite a few forest fires
- 20:45Speaker 1: going on right now. I called you all here because
- 20:49Speaker 1: we're well having trouble putting them out by ourselves, and
- 20:53Speaker 1: sometimes you just need a little help, you know. I
- 20:59Speaker 1: think with all of the powers I'm told you have,
- 21:02Speaker 1: we should be able to put a big dent in
- 21:04Speaker 1: this thing without any trouble at all, as long as
- 21:08Speaker 1: you guys are ready to do it. The version of
- 21:12Speaker 1: you carrying the wizard staff puts up their hand. Yeah,
- 21:18Speaker 1: you me, whoever you are. I'd just like to say
- 21:24Speaker 1: that we're happy to be here, and well, if I
- 21:27Speaker 1: can ever help myself out, I like to do so.
- 21:32Speaker 1: So just point us in the direction of the fire
- 21:35Speaker 1: and let's get going. You walk up to the back
- 21:39Speaker 1: of the ship and press a button near the back hatch.
- 21:43Speaker 1: The hatch opens up, revealing a huge forest fire spreading
- 21:50Speaker 1: down below the fires that way, you say, as all
- 21:56Speaker 1: of the other versions of yourself peek over the edge
- 21:59Speaker 1: and take a look. That is a big fire. Nah,
- 22:06Speaker 1: nothing I can't handle, Magnus says, as the little dragonling
- 22:11Speaker 1: flies down to the ground and starts to grow larger
- 22:17Speaker 1: and larger and larger, until he himself is a gigantic
- 22:24Speaker 1: black dragon with veins of what look like pure sunlight
- 22:31Speaker 1: energy or something like that. At the same time, his
- 22:36Speaker 1: partner's chest begins to glow, and instantly high tech armor
- 22:43Speaker 1: appears around his body. The two of them jump out
- 22:47Speaker 1: of the back of the plane and heads straight down
- 22:52Speaker 1: towards the fire. As they fall, streaks of light shoot
- 22:57Speaker 1: out in all different directions, and each one forms itself
- 23:02Speaker 1: into a different creature. One becomes a large blue dragon,
- 23:09Speaker 1: laying almost as big as Magnus, another becomes some sort
- 23:14Speaker 1: of fire panda, another transforms into a gigantic dingo if
- 23:22Speaker 1: you're not wrong, and another becomes a nine tailed fox
- 23:28Speaker 1: with all sorts of elemental powers. Next, the kid Wizard
- 23:35Speaker 1: flies out of the back with his skateboard. Instead of
- 23:40Speaker 1: heading down to boards the ground, he flies up through
- 23:44Speaker 1: the clouds and the clouds start to follow him, forming
- 23:50Speaker 1: thicker and thicker layers before looking like they're about to rain. Next,
- 23:59Speaker 1: the Quantum version of you leaps out of the back
- 24:02Speaker 1: of the plane in their high tech mech suit, both
- 24:06Speaker 1: arms loaded with what look like freeze cannons. You're pretty
- 24:12Speaker 1: sure they're freeze cannons, but your suspicions are confirmed when
- 24:16Speaker 1: they immediately begin to blast the area in front of
- 24:19Speaker 1: the fire, causing lines of ice to appear on the ground.
- 24:25Speaker 1: And last, the dragon Night version of you, still covered
- 24:30Speaker 1: and some very magical looking armor, climbs atop the Dragon
- 24:36Speaker 1: and shoots out of the back of the ship as well.
- 24:40Speaker 1: You immediately run towards the control seat Once again, spaceship,
- 24:46Speaker 1: why didn't we just use freeze cannons? Excellent question. Primarily
- 24:53Speaker 1: I was hoping you would learn the way water bombers work.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Now that you have done so, I am happy to
- 25:00Speaker 1: provide higher tech options. Freeze cannons arming now all right, perfect,
- 25:10Speaker 1: and honestly, maybe we're better if we lose the propellers
- 25:14Speaker 1: for something higher tech two and maybe faster understood. The
- 25:21Speaker 1: propellers start to glow and are soon replaced by jet engines.
- 25:27Speaker 1: The wing shift back towards their forward position, and you
- 25:31Speaker 1: head down towards the fire once again. You watch as
- 25:36Speaker 1: the other versions of You are quickly taking action. The
- 25:41Speaker 1: sky above is getting darker and darker, and rain is
- 25:46Speaker 1: starting to fall. Cards of power, You, along with a
- 25:51Speaker 1: whole bunch of magical creatures, are making quick work of
- 25:55Speaker 1: their section of the fire Magnus. The large blade dragon
- 26:01Speaker 1: seems to be somehow absorbing the fire from all around
- 26:06Speaker 1: himself straight into his body. He then unleashes a plume
- 26:11Speaker 1: of fire, shooting straight up into the atmosphere. At the
- 26:16Speaker 1: same time, the large water dragon that the kid manifested
- 26:23Speaker 1: is spraying the whole place with plumes of water and ice.
- 26:29Speaker 1: The fire Panda is making its way through the forest,
- 26:33Speaker 1: absorbing the fires it goes, and the nine tailed Fox
- 26:38Speaker 1: is using various elements to put the thing out, splashing
- 26:42Speaker 1: areas with ice and water, obviously, but also creating huge
- 26:47Speaker 1: walls of earth to stop the fire from spreading. At
- 26:53Speaker 1: the same time, the dragon Knight's version of You is
- 26:56Speaker 1: using similar tactics. Watch as it dips down over a
- 27:02Speaker 1: lake and the water follows it up into the air,
- 27:07Speaker 1: crashing down with a huge splash before freezing in place.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Then it sends huge columns of earth up from the ground,
- 27:18Speaker 1: stopping the fire from spreading any further in that direction.
- 27:23Speaker 1: The Quantum version of you blasts the fire with ice,
- 27:28Speaker 1: and the Wizard version of you descends from the sky
- 27:33Speaker 1: as it begins to pour, and not just a little
- 27:38Speaker 1: water either, a torrential down pour begins. Slowly, the fire
- 27:46Speaker 1: has trouble continuing. The flames die down their path towards
- 27:54Speaker 1: other unburned trees is cut off by columns of ice
- 27:59Speaker 1: or earth. Not wanting to miss out on any of
- 28:03Speaker 1: the action, you fly through the torrential downpour, maim your
- 28:08Speaker 1: freeze cannons at a section of the forest that hasn't
- 28:11Speaker 1: been touched yet, and blast away. Before long, you and
- 28:19Speaker 1: well the other versions of you have created a perimeter
- 28:23Speaker 1: around one of the largest forest fires in the area,
- 28:28Speaker 1: nowhere left for it to go, and the rain is
- 28:33Speaker 1: slowly putting the thing out as well. You continue this pattern,
- 28:39Speaker 1: moving from fire to fire until the sun begins to
- 28:44Speaker 1: set and you and well the other versions of you
- 28:49Speaker 1: start to look pretty tired. All right, everyone, we've done
- 28:55Speaker 1: what we can do for one night. Let's take a break.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Everyone meet up in the sky. The wings of your
- 29:05Speaker 1: plane tilt upward once again, allowing it to hover in
- 29:09Speaker 1: the sky. You open the back hatch, and one by one,
- 29:15Speaker 1: the different versions of you come in for a landing. First,
- 29:20Speaker 1: the Cards of Power version of you, along with his
- 29:23Speaker 1: dragon Magnus land inside. The dragon immediately shrinks down to
