- 0:00Time off, we're back to the basics and healthcare with Balanced Life Chiropractic.
- 0:03We have doctor Harley with us, Hey doing Doctor Harley, Hey John,
- 0:05I'm doing great. IM loving this warm weather that we're getting so that always,
- 0:10you know, puts everyone in good mood. And I looked at the
- 0:12ten day forecasts, I'm like, Okay, we have some good stuff coming
- 0:16and it looks like it's going to be pretty decent for a while. Yeah,
- 0:18I'm excited about that. How much I trust those weather people. But
- 0:22we'll try. So today we're going to talk about something. You tell me
- 0:24if I say this right. I tried to memorize uh, pediatric occupational therapy.
- 0:31Yeah, did they get it all right? Yeah. It's just a
- 0:33lot of big words that I don't usually use, some big, fancy science
- 0:35words in there. But it's just something that I feel like maybe a lot
- 0:38of people don't know much about. And I learned a lot more about it
- 0:41from the occupational therapist I sat down with last week for coffee from Functional Kids
- 0:47Occupational Therapy Location, and it's something that I think a lot of parents need
- 0:51to look a little more into. And what we really kind of talked about
- 0:55was sensory disorders with kids, like that's a big thing that they work with,
- 0:59and it's just something that is becoming more regularly like diagnosed or recognized.
- 1:03And maybe some parents don't necessarily know what other steps there are out there,
- 1:07and you probably wonder, well, how does this have to work with chiropractic.
- 1:11It works well together. As I was explained to this therapist that you
- 1:15know, they're working on the symptoms, helping parents to manage you know,
- 1:19at home behaviors, different steps to help them, you know, get through
- 1:23these obstacles. And she's like always been interested about how chiropractic can help with
- 1:29you know, just along the journey. And I look at it as you
- 1:32know, especially if we're looking at the sensory overload kids, you know,
- 1:34they're basically, you know, on a hamster wheel just go go, go,
- 1:38go, go, go go, you know, miles an hour kind
- 1:41of thing. Chiropractic is going to help slow down that speed, helping their
- 1:45nervous system to slow down, helping them to process you know, their world
- 1:49versus just immediately having a big tantrum or a blow up. Going to help
- 1:55them to you know, control those emotions a little bit easier and so combined
- 2:00with the therapy is going to help you know, both kids and parents to
- 2:02use those tools to work through, you know, those big emotions and big
- 2:07feelings that kids are struggling with. And the thing that's nice, those two
- 2:10things do work really well together. And if we talked about in the past,
- 2:15you know, with chiropractic, it's really kind of helping communication from the
- 2:19brain to other parts of the body and when there's something that's pinched or something
- 2:22that's not quite connecting, that causes a problem. So I love the fact
- 2:27that this they work very well together. Yeah, and you know, we
- 2:30kind of talked about, Okay, when should parents start looking at adding other
- 2:32things? And you know, if you're going to chiropractor, when you should
- 2:37be maybe incorporating functional therapy versus if you're going to punctual therapy, when would
- 2:40it be good to start seeing a chiropractor. I kind of looked at it's
- 2:43like if you feel like you're stuck and like just kind of they got to
- 2:47a plateau and still have more work to do, but they're kind of at
- 2:50a point where nothing seems to be getting better, but it's not getting worse.
- 2:53I think that's where it's a really good time to start adding some new
- 2:57things, maybe one at a time. See, Okay, we're going to
- 3:00start doing chiropractic. Okay, they're they're getting better. They're they're making bigger
- 3:04milestones in their functional therapy, which is awesome, or it's the opposite of
- 3:07the functional therapy. They've kind of reached a plateau and then the chiropractice is
- 3:10going to help them to process through some of those things that they're working on.
- 3:15Nice. If somebody listening is going, hey, I can relate to
- 3:19this, this is something that I could probably utilize some help with. Or
- 3:22maybe they have some other issues that are health related that chiropractic might be a
- 3:27good fit for. What is the best way for them to connect with you?
- 3:29Yeah, and I know it talked a lot about like sensory disorders,
- 3:31but chiropractic helps kids with loads of other, you know, kind of common
- 3:36childhood things. You know, one thing with the therapist I was talking about
- 3:38was even developmental delays, you know, walking, crawling, verbal, eye
- 3:44contact, all these different things that you know, kids are these these hurdles
- 3:49that these kids are having, there's so many different resources out there to help
- 3:52them. You don't have to feel like you're stuck or that you're alone in
- 3:54this. There's professionals there that are We're out here to help you. Yeah,
