- 0:00Speaker 1: Tsunami would be a good stage name. It's one more thing.
- 0:08Speaker 1: But first we're gonna kind of clean out a dorm fridge.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I'm not gonna go full cleaning out the sound fridge.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Could we just have a couple of things to play
- 0:15Speaker 1: for you, but I might as well use them before
- 0:18Speaker 1: a fascinating dorm fridges and tsunamis.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Probably a half of a Monster energy drink.
- 0:27Speaker 1: And hand full of beers.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Anyway, one slice, one slice of leftover pizza.
- 0:34Speaker 1: That's unwrapped, just sitting there kind of dry.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yeah, my son is a full on caffeine addict because
- 0:43Speaker 2: of energy drinks. He's got the he's the he's uh,
- 0:50Speaker 2: he is definitely a If we're gonna do something on
- 0:53Speaker 2: the morning side, I got it. I'm I'm gonna wait
- 0:54Speaker 2: till he's had some caffeine before I'm gonna talk to him,
- 0:57Speaker 2: because he's one of those people.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Mm hmmm, terrible.
- 1:00Speaker 2: You know, you know, well, you know, you know people.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I guess, don't talk to him before the caffeine.
- 1:04Speaker 3: When I had a caffeine addiction and I stopped drinking caffeine,
- 1:07Speaker 3: I got headaches for like three weeks straight.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, hmm.
- 1:14Speaker 1: It's terrible. Sorry to hear that. So let's clean out
- 1:17Speaker 1: that sound, fritge, Michael. We got a couple of jokes
- 1:19Speaker 1: we didn't use, Is that right, Yeah, a couple.
- 1:21Speaker 4: According to Politico, President Trump and French President mccron often
- 1:25Speaker 4: have bromance chats on the phone.
- 1:29Speaker 2: What can I say, I like older men, said mcron.
- 1:37Speaker 2: So he continues to lean on this idea that Manuel
- 1:41Speaker 2: mccrone's wife is a dude. That Owens is being sued
- 1:45Speaker 2: for those broad shoulders.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Michelle Obama another alleged transgender.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Did you see the video for dancing on Ellen? You
- 1:53Speaker 2: can see your penis playing that thing around?
- 1:56Speaker 1: All right? All right? He got another one for us, Michael.
- 2:00Speaker 5: Meanwhile, in Florida, a Chucky Cheese employee in full costume
- 2:03Speaker 5: was arrested for credit card fraud.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So for anyone else.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Currently dressed as Chuck E Cheese, this is a sobering
- 2:10Speaker 5: reminder that your life could get worse.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Wow, you're the Charles E Cheese and things took a
- 2:18Speaker 2: turn for the world.
- 2:19Speaker 3: I didn't realize you could have beer at Chuck E Cheese?
- 2:21Speaker 2: Did you know that? Are you kidding?
- 2:23Speaker 3: I didn't realize that, And I mean now, obviously I do.
- 2:27Speaker 2: The only way you get through it, exactly, that's the
- 2:28Speaker 2: only way parents could stomach it. Plus you had that
- 2:32Speaker 2: you had to find a way to ignore what that
- 2:36Speaker 2: ballpit was for your kids. So a couple of drinks
- 2:39Speaker 2: would help with that. But then several drinks and if
- 2:42Speaker 2: tempers flair. That's why there are always brawls at Chuck
- 2:44Speaker 2: E Cheeses. Right.
- 2:45Speaker 3: I stumbled down that rabbit hole on YouTube the other day.
- 2:48Speaker 3: That's how I found out about the.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Chucky Cheese fights.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yoh, it was great. Dang it really bag got my
- 2:54Speaker 2: weekend planned.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Wow, I just I hesitate to do something because it'll
- 2:58Speaker 1: feed me those videos for the rest of my life.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Right, Like, watch them. It's not a bad thing.
- 3:03Speaker 3: They all up and it's so many hours of enjoyment
- 3:06Speaker 3: just every once.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Not normal, you know, you're taking perfect all of them.
- 3:09Speaker 2: You want to take a little break. You know there's
- 3:11Speaker 2: a waffle house fight, there's awful house fights. Yeah, my
- 3:14Speaker 2: attention McDonald's cracker barrel. Oh, I don't know.
- 3:19Speaker 1: If I've seen a crock lay stripped to the waist
- 3:23Speaker 1: and Marquis of Queen's Perry rolls ready, you know, hitting
- 3:26Speaker 1: below the battles.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Here we go, your relaxing in your rocking chair. You're
- 3:30Speaker 2: thinking about buying that Reba McIntyre CD. What's there a
- 3:32Speaker 2: fight about. You're doing that i Q test thing that's
- 3:35Speaker 2: always fail. Yeah, man, yeah, all right? What else you got, Michael?
- 3:41Speaker 1: Is that it on the joke? Was it for the charge?
- 3:43Speaker 1: I guess with the number ten? This is a homeowner
- 3:46Speaker 1: and an alleged UFO experts some ring camera footage from Compton, California.
- 3:53Speaker 6: I was sitting in my sundroom with my son. We
- 3:55Speaker 6: were staring at each other, like what do we do?
- 3:56Speaker 6: We didn't even know what to do, Like I'm not
- 3:58Speaker 6: going to call the police. I'm not going to go outside.
- 4:00Speaker 6: I guess I'm gonna have to live with it, doubt
- 4:01Speaker 6: because I'm not. I'm not chicking.
- 4:04Speaker 4: I wouldn't see there's anything to worry about. But I
- 4:06Speaker 4: cannot conclude that this is a hoax after seeing that footage.
- 4:11Speaker 1: That's for sure what it's ring door well camera footage
- 4:17Speaker 1: that vaguely sort of it's at night, looks like your
- 4:21Speaker 1: classic movie Alien, some dude in a hoodie or something,
- 4:25Speaker 1: and the light is weird.
- 4:26Speaker 2: It's just it's and then and then who said they
- 4:28Speaker 2: can't verify that it's not an alien.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Because that was the UFO expert.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yea oh, a UFO expert. Clearly yes, And that's surprising
- 4:37Speaker 2: that he didn't immediately say, yeah, I'm pretty sure that's
- 4:40Speaker 2: not a UFO. He left the door open to the
- 4:42Speaker 2: fact that it might be. Hmmm, that is a bum
- 4:44Speaker 2: with a cart, right exactly?
- 4:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, go ahead, roll it one more time.
- 4:50Speaker 6: Michael, I was sitting in my sundroome with my son
- 4:52Speaker 6: and we were staring at each other, like what do
- 4:54Speaker 6: we do? We didn't even know what to do, like
- 4:55Speaker 6: I'm not gonna call the police, I'm not gonna go outside.
- 4:58Speaker 6: I guess I'm gonna have to live with it. Doubt
- 4:59Speaker 6: because I'm not joking.
- 5:01Speaker 4: I wouldn't see there's anything to worry about. But I
- 5:04Speaker 4: cannot conclude that this is a hoax after seeing that footage.
- 5:09Speaker 1: That's for sure.
- 5:09Speaker 2: You watch a video and it's a bum with a
- 5:11Speaker 2: shopping cart, it is a bomb with a cart or
- 5:14Speaker 2: any kind of hunched over like all of them.
- 5:17Speaker 1: That's like the flip side of the cops have no
- 5:20Speaker 1: one in custody, but they can assure us we're in
- 5:22Speaker 1: no danger, right that guys like, there's nothing to worry about,
- 5:26Speaker 1: but I cannot eliminate the possibility that it's an invading
- 5:30Speaker 1: alien or al right, joker whatever. All right, so very
- 5:38Speaker 1: quickly from the world of science as we speak. On Wednesday,
- 5:42Speaker 1: the thirtieth of July, the year of Our Lord, twenty
- 5:44Speaker 1: twenty five, there was a giant earthquake off of Russia's coast,
- 5:48Speaker 1: and there are tsunami warnings in Russia, Hawaii, the West
- 5:52Speaker 1: coast of the United States, et centa. Nothing terrible has
- 5:55Speaker 1: happened so far, but I know I saw that it
- 5:59Speaker 1: was tied for the sixth largest earthquake on record, according
- 6:04Speaker 1: to the US Geological Survey, which most powerful since twenty eleven,
- 6:08Speaker 1: which was the earthquake that triggered the Fukushima tsunami and
- 6:12Speaker 1: nuclear disaster.
- 6:15Speaker 2: How long have we had earthquake records? A century? Probably
- 6:18Speaker 2: not that long.
- 6:20Speaker 1: They theoretically geologists can kind of reconstruct and extrapolate from
- 6:26Speaker 1: various bits of evidence. But anyway, so here's why I
- 6:30Speaker 1: brought this up. Here's your top five. Come Chatka, Russia
- 6:36Speaker 1: in nineteen fifty two was nine point zero. Tohuko, Japan
- 6:40Speaker 1: in twenty eleven, that was the Fukushima thing is nine
- 6:42Speaker 1: point one. Sumatra, Indonesia in two thousand and four was
- 6:45Speaker 1: a nine point one.
- 6:47Speaker 2: That's the one that killed a quarter of a million
- 6:48Speaker 2: people with the tsunami.
- 6:50Speaker 1: H Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah. Alaska nineteen sixty four that
- 6:56Speaker 1: leveled anchorage, didn't it more or less? I remember learning
- 6:58Speaker 1: about it as a kid. But that was a nine
- 7:00Speaker 1: point two. And then Valdivia Chile, Chile in nineteen sixty
- 7:06Speaker 1: was a nine point five.
- 7:07Speaker 2: WHOA.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Now, a couple of notes. First of all, I remember
- 7:13Speaker 1: thinking during the Sumatrin thing that how does that tsunami
- 7:18Speaker 1: kill so many people? Is it like drowning and stuff?
- 7:21Speaker 1: Could you not cling to something or blah blah blah.
- 7:23Speaker 1: And it was pointed out that no, it picks up everything, Yeah,
- 7:27Speaker 1: everything and swirls in rapid currents. So you are ground
- 7:32Speaker 1: up like you're in a blender by the lumber and
- 7:35Speaker 1: the metal glass and the cars and the telephone poles
- 7:39Speaker 1: and everything else. It's horrible.
- 7:42Speaker 2: The chunks of cement from knockdown buildings. Yeah, you wouldn't
- 7:46Speaker 2: have a chance.
- 7:48Speaker 1: And secondly, I remember at one point there was an
- 7:52Speaker 1: earthquake that rattled the radio ranch or something. We were
- 7:54Speaker 1: talking about this, the seismic energy, the Richter scale, and
- 8:00Speaker 1: we had angry people lecturing us that an eight point
- 8:05Speaker 1: oh to a nine point oh is not like, you know,
- 8:07Speaker 1: one eighth higher. It's ten times as higher as high.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Every full number on the Richter scale is ten times
- 8:16Speaker 1: as powerful. And a bunch of people yelled at us
- 8:19Speaker 1: about that because I apparently we got it wrong. Well,
- 8:22Speaker 1: according to the New York Times, which is generally pretty
- 8:24Speaker 1: good about this sort of thing, the seismic energy released
- 8:27Speaker 1: by a quake actually increases by thirty one point six
- 8:32Speaker 1: times for each whole number increase in magnitude. Third, they
- 8:37Speaker 1: came up with that scale.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I don't know, more than thirty times stronger a nine
- 8:42Speaker 2: is than an eight?
- 8:43Speaker 1: Correct? Wow? Yeah, and you know, do the math. You're
- 8:47Speaker 1: better at math than me, But from a six to
- 8:49Speaker 1: an eight is astounding. Oh yeah, Well, with all respect
- 8:56Speaker 1: to mister Richter and the good work he did, real roundbreaker,
- 9:01Speaker 1: Why isn't it like a linear and is zero to
- 9:05Speaker 1: one hundred?
- 9:06Speaker 2: His grandson Andy Richter, who was the sidekick for Conan
- 9:09Speaker 2: O'Brien for so many years, you should, uh, you should
- 9:12Speaker 2: come up with a better scale that's a dumb scale.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Well, yeah, that's my point.
- 9:17Speaker 2: And who decided, Well, we can't change it. I mean,
- 9:21Speaker 2: whatever they decided in eighteen seventy or whenever they started,
- 9:24Speaker 2: we got to stick with that technology. We can't come
- 9:26Speaker 2: up with a new scale. Now, it's just what come
- 9:29Speaker 2: up with a scale?
- 9:30Speaker 1: A seven point zero is thirty one point six times
- 9:34Speaker 1: the energy than a six point zero, So an eight
- 9:39Speaker 1: point zero would be ninety three ish or whatever that math.
- 9:43Speaker 1: It's a lot as powerful as a sixth's.
- 9:46Speaker 2: It's like the spinal tap thing. It goes to eleven.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Well why not just make ten the highest number? And
- 9:51Speaker 2: then it's loud it goes to eleven. It's similar sort
- 9:54Speaker 2: of reasoning, very complicated. Yeah, exactly what are you doing?
- 9:59Speaker 1: What?
- 10:00Speaker 2: I've never looked into this. Maybe i'll look into it today.
- 10:03Speaker 2: When they talk about the big one in California, are
- 10:06Speaker 2: they expecting a fifteen or a ten or what do
- 10:10Speaker 2: they think it'll be?
- 10:11Speaker 1: Well, it depends where it hits, of course, and where
- 10:14Speaker 1: the epicenter is. But you know, a solid eight point
- 10:18Speaker 1: five could be like insanely damaging in California depending where
- 10:24Speaker 1: the epicenter was.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Well, it has been several times, But no, I mean
- 10:27Speaker 2: the big one, like a chunk of California falls into
- 10:29Speaker 2: the ocean, never to be seen again. Is that going
- 10:31Speaker 2: to be a.
- 10:33Speaker 3: The article I'm looking at says a seven point eight
- 10:35Speaker 3: or higher.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Would be the big one. What was the highest number
- 10:39Speaker 2: on your number one recorded there?
- 10:40Speaker 1: Joe nine point five? So there's never been a ten
- 10:44Speaker 1: in Chile in nineteen sixty.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Well, talk about something you can't predict.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I can think of two songs with lyrics that reference
- 10:58Speaker 1: California tumbling into the ocean on Steely Dan's My Old
- 11:06Speaker 1: School and two the Decembrist's Calamity Song.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Any other examples, Sweet, I don't have one. I have
- 11:15Speaker 2: one Metal Guy California's crumbling. Yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Right, by the way, I noticed we didn't play the
- 11:24Speaker 1: cleaning out sound fridge a song either, Michael, you're trying
- 11:27Speaker 1: to put Metal Guy out of world?
- 11:29Speaker 2: Did he steal your girl or what you said?
- 11:31Speaker 1: It wasn't a full cleaning out sound fridge. It was
- 11:33Speaker 1: just a dorm fridge, so I didn't think we should hear.
- 11:37Speaker 1: But now you're quibbling. Wow, still a fridge, Katie. Katie's
- 11:41Speaker 1: right again?
- 11:41Speaker 2: And who knew there were like footnote rulings on this
- 11:46Speaker 2: sort of thing, very complex.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Fridge.
- 11:51Speaker 2: There we go, all right, well, I guess that's it.
