- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up everybody. I hope you are doing well. Wanted
- 0:03Speaker 1: to let you know that we've recorded this podcast episode
- 0:05Speaker 1: on Monday, February twenty fourth, twenty twenty five. By the
- 0:09Speaker 1: time you hear this, some things may have changed here
- 0:11Speaker 1: or there, but we hope you enjoyed the show. Welcome
- 0:34Speaker 1: to Table Talk here at the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show,
- 0:37Speaker 1: the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world.
- 0:41Speaker 1: That's right over eleven and a half year strong. In fact,
- 0:44Speaker 1: this April twelve years of the PST podcast show. Love
- 0:48Speaker 1: being in your ears, and we love the support that
- 0:51Speaker 1: we have received for well over a decade. Thank you,
- 0:55Speaker 1: thank you, thank you. We got a great show coming
- 0:58Speaker 1: your way. On Table Talk this week, we are.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Getting into the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yes, a lot of us are still celebrating and keeping
- 1:05Speaker 1: in mind what this team just did a couple of
- 1:07Speaker 1: weeks ago in terms of the Super Bowl, but we're
- 1:09Speaker 1: already looking towards this offseason. How can this team continue
- 1:14Speaker 1: to structure itself in a way where it can be
- 1:16Speaker 1: a contender in the future. We got a great discussion
- 1:19Speaker 1: coming your way. Let's get into some Eagles talk right now.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Joining us this week coming to us from the Eagles
- 1:26Speaker 1: Pin Pull network. You can hear one of the great
- 1:29Speaker 1: podcast is on the Shane page. I subscribe to the
- 1:34Speaker 1: Eagles Pinpoll network on Apple Podcasts. They've got a great
- 1:38Speaker 1: Patreon platform as well, where you can dive into their discord.
- 1:42Speaker 1: We've got a real good friend of the podcast here,
- 1:44Speaker 1: Shane Half Shane buddy.
- 1:46Speaker 2: How you doing, my man?
- 1:47Speaker 3: I'm doing great. You know, the Eagles reigning world champions.
- 1:51Speaker 3: It's a great offseason to be talking about the Eagles.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Much better than where we were this time last year.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I mean, after the collapse last year, you think to yourself, boy,
- 1:59Speaker 1: this team is going to it's going to take a
- 2:01Speaker 1: long time for this team to get back into perhaps
- 2:04Speaker 1: any sort of contention. Then one year later they're world champs.
- 2:08Speaker 1: My goodness, it was an amazing time. We were talking
- 2:11Speaker 1: about on the on our recent podcast with my co
- 2:15Speaker 1: host Len. I was down at the parade. Probably never
- 2:18Speaker 1: do it again. I'm glad I did, but it was
- 2:21Speaker 1: just I mean, I still feel like it's a celebratory
- 2:23Speaker 1: time fors s Eagules fans.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I was talking to my wife about
- 2:28Speaker 3: the whole parade stuff, and she's like, if they do
- 2:30Speaker 3: that again sometime, you should like fly out for the parade,
- 2:33Speaker 3: And he's like, because I'm in Oklahoma, and I was like,
- 2:35Speaker 3: you know, honestly, and the parade doesn't appeal to me
- 2:40Speaker 3: a lot because I'm not like a big crowds, right,
- 2:44Speaker 3: that's not my get there early lots of drum people like,
- 2:47Speaker 3: that's not my thing.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:48Speaker 3: What I would do, like if I was gonna be
- 2:50Speaker 3: able to do it sometime is I'd want to fly
- 2:52Speaker 3: to like Philly for an NFC Championship game, even if
- 2:54Speaker 3: I couldn't like go to the game because tickets were crazy,
- 2:58Speaker 3: just to like be in the city during the game.
- 3:00Speaker 3: That would be really cool. But the parade, that'd probably
- 3:02Speaker 3: be down the list for me.
- 3:03Speaker 1: But yeah, it's definitely gonna be down the list for me.
- 3:06Speaker 1: After been there this year again, glad, I went, not
- 3:09Speaker 1: sure I'm gonna do it in the future. But I
- 3:12Speaker 1: do have to say, Shane, you all over at Eagles
- 3:14Speaker 1: Pinpool Network and doing some really good work. You know,
- 3:17Speaker 1: a lot of us are really kind of just floating
- 3:19Speaker 1: around in this online world and trying to get figured
- 3:22Speaker 1: out still because there's different platforms, certain platforms are changing.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Let folks know if you don't mind talking about your
- 3:29Speaker 1: Patreon platform through the through the on the same Shane page. Sorry,
- 3:33Speaker 1: on the Shane page, and you know some of the
- 3:36Speaker 1: perks that come with that.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yeah, So Johnny and I started a Patreon so you
- 3:40Speaker 3: can find it at patreon dot com slash on the
- 3:43Speaker 3: Shane page. And for folks that are unfamiliar with how
- 3:46Speaker 3: Patreon works, it's basically just a way to directly pay
- 3:49Speaker 3: creators to support their content. And so there's three membership tiers.
- 3:54Speaker 3: In ours, there's a free membership tier, and we release
- 3:57Speaker 3: things to free members from time to time, not a lot,
- 4:00Speaker 3: but you would get email notifications and occasionally I'll release
- 4:03Speaker 3: all twenty two videos and stuff, but most of our stuff.
- 4:06Speaker 3: There's a three dollars a month tier that gets you
- 4:08Speaker 3: access to a discord server where you know, Johnny and
- 4:11Speaker 3: I are in there chatting a lot, and we've got
- 4:13Speaker 3: a great community of guys and girls in the discord
- 4:16Speaker 3: so far, just talking Eagles, NFL whatever. They get a
- 4:21Speaker 3: monthly mail bag addition to the podcast it's exclusive to Patreon.
- 4:25Speaker 3: And then our five dollars a month tier ads in season,
- 4:28Speaker 3: my weekly all twenty two pass game content and then
- 4:32Speaker 3: just various other like exclusive video streams that Johnny and
- 4:35Speaker 3: I will do so three and five dollars a month.
- 4:38Speaker 3: They can grab a free one week trial and sign
- 4:41Speaker 3: up and check it out. And you know, we don't
- 4:44Speaker 3: have very many people cancel, We'll say that. So I'm
- 4:46Speaker 3: highly satisfied with what we're putting out and it seems
- 4:49Speaker 3: like our people are too, so come check us out there.
- 4:51Speaker 1: We've had a number of folks from the Eagles pin
- 4:53Speaker 1: Pull network here on our podcast.
- 4:55Speaker 2: You know you.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Johnny has been on the podcast too. Took a little
- 4:58Speaker 1: bit for him to get on because of the time
- 5:00Speaker 1: I'm you know, him being over in England. You know,
- 5:02Speaker 1: the time, the time zone situation. But you guys do
- 5:06Speaker 1: fantastic content and it's and and put that out to
- 5:10Speaker 1: the masses, and it's honestly, it's one of the reasons
- 5:11Speaker 1: why I wanted to have you on as well and
- 5:14Speaker 1: to really talk about where this Eagles team is going
- 5:16Speaker 1: to go, because I know you're talking about it within
- 5:19Speaker 1: your podcast and Eagles platform as well, and I wanted
- 5:24Speaker 1: to really start off by, you know, talking about the
- 5:28Speaker 1: fact that you know, this Eagles team, they are Super
- 5:30Speaker 1: Bowl champions, and many of us. Yes, we are already
- 5:34Speaker 1: thinking about next season. We are hoping for a repeat.
- 5:37Speaker 1: So let's talk about how they may get there based
- 5:40Speaker 1: on what the front office is going to really need
- 5:41Speaker 1: to do this offseason. Shane, And the first piece of business,
- 5:45Speaker 1: we got to get into the firing, not I'm not firing,
- 5:49Speaker 1: my gosh, filling Kellen Moore's role. The the old offensive coordinator,
- 5:54Speaker 1: Kevin Patulo. He was promoted from the passing game coordinator
- 5:57Speaker 1: and assistant head coach to be the new offensive coretor.
- 6:00Speaker 1: We know that Petullo has been with Sirianni here in
- 6:04Speaker 1: Philly since day one, so very instrumental in the run
- 6:08Speaker 1: pass option game as people know, the RPO game with
- 6:11Speaker 1: what Philly does week in and week out. So, Shane,
- 6:15Speaker 1: I'm wondering, you know, what are your thoughts on Kevin
- 6:17Speaker 1: Petullo and the kind of offensive coordinator that he's going
- 6:21Speaker 1: to be for this Eagles offense next season.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Yeah, you're jumping the gun there a little bit. We
- 6:26Speaker 3: usually don't start talking about firing offensive coordinator. I know
- 6:29Speaker 3: they've called like two maybe three games.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Pull back the curtain a little bit, folks.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I'm reading a question here and and I've got my
- 6:35Speaker 1: contacts in, I'm not wearing my glasses, and something weird
- 6:38Speaker 1: is going on with my prescription here. I'm turning into
- 6:40Speaker 1: an old man.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Shine. Yeah. So you know, I certainly get a that's good.
- 6:49Speaker 3: I certainly get a bit of the consternation that Eagles
- 6:52Speaker 3: fans have expressed about the Kevin Petulo promotion, because you know,
- 6:57Speaker 3: if you look back, the Eagles track record with internal
- 6:59Speaker 3: perms four OC haven't been great. In twenty eighteen, the
- 7:04Speaker 3: Eagles come off the Super Bowl win, they lose Frank
- 7:07Speaker 3: Right to Indianapolis, and they promoted Mike grow and they
- 7:11Speaker 3: went nine and seven back to back years before the
- 7:13Speaker 3: twenty twenty disaster where everybody gets fired. And then in
- 7:17Speaker 3: twenty twenty three, you come off a Super Bowl loss
- 7:19Speaker 3: and you lose Shane Steichen again to Indianapolis. Indianapolis can't
- 7:23Speaker 3: get their stuff right. They keep stealing our coaches. But
- 7:27Speaker 3: and you promote Brian Johnson internally, and you have the
- 7:29Speaker 3: epic collapse at the end of the season, And so
- 7:32Speaker 3: you know, that's that's the stage for where we're at
- 7:34Speaker 3: now twenty twenty five. You're going to come off a
- 7:36Speaker 3: Super Bowl win, You're losing Kellen Moore at least it's
- 7:39Speaker 3: not to Indianapolis. Maybe that's the difference here. And so
- 7:42Speaker 3: you're looking at an internal promotion of Kevin Petulhu, and
- 7:46Speaker 3: there's some differences, like Brian Johnson had only been in
- 7:49Speaker 3: the NFL for two years and only in Philadelphia and
- 7:52Speaker 3: only as a quarterback coach when he was promoted to
- 7:55Speaker 3: offensive coordinator. Mike grow had been a wide receiver coach
- 7:59Speaker 3: for three years in Chicago and then a year in
- 8:02Speaker 3: Los Angeles with the Rams, and then a year in
- 8:04Speaker 3: Philly before he got promoted. But he'd have bounced around
- 8:07Speaker 3: and not been in the league a long time. Kevin
- 8:09Speaker 3: Petulu has been in the NFL for fifteen years. He's
- 8:13Speaker 3: been with Nick Sirianni, dating back actually to twenty eighteen
- 8:16Speaker 3: in Indianapolis. So he came to Philly from Indianapolis with
- 8:19Speaker 3: Nick Siriani and so they go way back. And I've
- 8:22Speaker 3: heard some reporting that he's kind of the guy that
- 8:25Speaker 3: tells Nick Sirianni at times, like hey, you're being dumb,
- 8:28Speaker 3: like rain this thing, rain this in or whatever. So yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 3: I don't know if that's true. I'll trust the report
- 8:33Speaker 3: if that's true. Like it's good to have somebody that
- 8:35Speaker 3: has a long running relationship with Sirianni, in my opinion,
- 8:38Speaker 3: that can push back against him on and not that
- 8:41Speaker 3: you know, Nick Sirianni needs pushed back on a lot,
- 8:43Speaker 3: but it's always good to have that.
- 8:46Speaker 1: That was gonna be my question for you too, that pushback,
- 8:48Speaker 1: because I have talked on this podcast platform a decent
- 8:51Speaker 1: amount this year, and other folks have talked about as
- 8:53Speaker 1: well in the Philly sports and Eagles football media world
- 8:58Speaker 1: about how Nick Sirianni really has grown a lot over
- 9:00Speaker 1: the course of this past year. And it makes me
- 9:02Speaker 1: wonder how much he's gonna need somebody like Petullo saying, hey,
- 9:06Speaker 1: you know what, let's not do this, let's not do that,
- 9:08Speaker 1: you know, talking in his ear. I wonder how much
- 9:11Speaker 1: of Nick sirian is going to need that type of
- 9:14Speaker 1: direction now after a year of what a lot of
- 9:16Speaker 1: us see as a lot of growth in terms of
- 9:19Speaker 1: him being a head coach.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's always valuable, even you know, even
- 9:24Speaker 3: the best leaders need people that will push back on
- 9:27Speaker 3: him a little. I don't think that's a great idea.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Let's and that we'll listen. And so I mean You
- 9:32Speaker 3: even get stories this year like the offensive line going
- 9:34Speaker 3: to Nick Sirian in the bye week saying, hey, let's
- 9:36Speaker 3: run the dang football.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Not a lot of coaches, I don't think would be like,
- 9:41Speaker 3: you know what, four weeks into the season, let's change
- 9:43Speaker 3: our offense because my players want to. But he did that,
- 9:46Speaker 3: and so that take. We think of Nick Siriani as
- 9:49Speaker 3: a very like arrogant Hubrius type guy. He wears his
- 9:56Speaker 3: emotions on his sleeve. He talks trash, you know, that's
- 9:59Speaker 3: the But there's a lot of humility in listening to
- 10:03Speaker 3: those players in that way. And I think having a
- 10:06Speaker 3: guy at OC that can do that for him also,
- 10:09Speaker 3: and that he has a long running relationship with that
- 10:12Speaker 3: he'll listen to in those things, I think that's valuable.
- 10:14Speaker 3: And even in twenty twenty three, Brian Johnson offense was good. Yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 3: they were fifth and EPA per play and sixth and
- 10:22Speaker 3: success rate for the season. Now, if you want to say, well, yeah,
- 10:25Speaker 3: but they lost five of their last six games. Even
- 10:28Speaker 3: if you only look at those last six games, they
- 10:31Speaker 3: were seventh and EPA per play and third and success rate.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Teams down the stretch just won the defense cratered. Yeah,
- 10:38Speaker 3: but that's a separate conversation. We don't have to worry
- 10:41Speaker 3: about that. With Fangio two, a fatal flaw was discovered
- 10:44Speaker 3: in the offense that they could not figure out how
- 10:46Speaker 3: to fix. They could not beat cover zero blitzes. Kellen
- 10:50Speaker 3: Moore installed the solutions for that this year. So I
- 10:52Speaker 3: don't like there might be a fatal flaw that's discovered
- 10:55Speaker 3: next year, and hopefully you can troubleshoot that. But I
- 10:57Speaker 3: don't think it's going to be the same issue from
- 10:59Speaker 3: twenty five thirteen, and so I don't think the Kellen Moore,
- 11:03Speaker 3: I don't think it's going to be a big loss
- 11:05Speaker 3: for the Eagles. I thought he was fine as a
- 11:06Speaker 3: play caller. I wondered at times if he was the
- 11:09Speaker 3: right play caller for Jalen Hurts because of some of
- 11:12Speaker 3: the stylistic things he likes to do that I don't
- 11:15Speaker 3: think are suited to Hurts. So, you know, overall, I
- 11:18Speaker 3: don't I may sound foolish next year if we fall
- 11:21Speaker 3: off the rails again, but I don't think it's going
- 11:23Speaker 3: to be that big of a deal.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't either, quite frankly. But moving along with
- 11:27Speaker 1: the conversation here with regard to this offseason free agency shade.
- 11:32Speaker 1: It's gonna be here right before. It's gonna be in
- 11:34Speaker 1: front of our eyes before we know. At March tenth
- 11:36Speaker 1: is when the legal tampering period begins. Eagles are going
- 11:39Speaker 1: to have a bunch of money to spend after the
- 11:41Speaker 1: NFL increase a salary cap by about twenty two million. Meanwhile,
- 11:45Speaker 1: they have about nineteen point five million in cap space currently,
- 11:49Speaker 1: so there are going to be some moves that they
- 11:52Speaker 1: are certainly going to make.
- 11:53Speaker 2: For sure.
- 11:55Speaker 1: First, I would love your opinion on which of the
- 11:58Speaker 1: sixteen free agents, how he Rose in the Eagles front
- 12:00Speaker 1: office really need to prioritize in terms of bringing back
- 12:03Speaker 1: to the team for the future. And I guess if
- 12:07Speaker 1: there's one player at the top of that list for
- 12:10Speaker 1: you in terms of that guy that they just need
- 12:12Speaker 1: to keep here on this team, who would that person be?
- 12:15Speaker 2: And why? Yeah?
- 12:16Speaker 3: I mean it's got to be the Raven Clark.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Now, why not?
- 12:23Speaker 1: You know?
- 12:23Speaker 2: I mean, look, there could be hidden potential, right.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, for sure. I mean it comes down to
- 12:30Speaker 3: there's the four main free agents, right, You've got Makai Becton,
- 12:33Speaker 3: Josh Swat, Milton Williams, and Zach Bond. Those are your
- 12:36Speaker 3: four main guys. And I like to think of guys
- 12:39Speaker 3: in terms of units, position units, and so if you
- 12:42Speaker 3: think about the offensive line, if Becton walks, it's still
- 12:45Speaker 3: a really good unit, right and you can't pay guys
- 12:48Speaker 3: at all five positions all the time. And they've got
- 12:50Speaker 3: one of the best offensive line coaches around. So Becton's
- 12:55Speaker 3: knocked off that list for me as a priority. The
- 12:57Speaker 3: defensive line is tougher because you've got two guys on
- 13:00Speaker 3: the same unit, and Josh Sweat and Milton Williams, they
- 13:02Speaker 3: played almost fifteen hundred snaps this season. If both of
- 13:06Speaker 3: these guys walk, you're trying to replace fifteen hundred snaps,
- 13:09Speaker 3: one hundred and twenty pressures in seventeen and a half
- 13:12Speaker 3: sacks At the end of the day, though, Jalen Carter
- 13:16Speaker 3: is the force multiplayer there and Nolan Smith comes on
- 13:19Speaker 3: at the end of the season. Over the final seven
- 13:21Speaker 3: games he led the team in pressures, and so you
- 13:24Speaker 3: need to invest in that position. But I think both
- 13:27Speaker 3: of those guys would be buying at the high end
- 13:29Speaker 3: of their value right now. I think there is I
- 13:33Speaker 3: think Milton Williams is good, but I think he's made
- 13:35Speaker 3: to look a lot better because he doesn't get the attention.
- 13:38Speaker 3: I think Josh Sweat broke out at the right time
- 13:40Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl, and that's going to inflate his value.
- 13:42Speaker 3: And so then you get to linebacker, where your current
- 13:45Speaker 3: roster going into next year is to Kobe Dean coming
- 13:49Speaker 3: off of an injury that players typically struggle to come
- 13:51Speaker 3: back from, and Jeremiah Trotter Junior, who basically didn't play
- 13:55Speaker 3: this year on the defense. So not only was Zach
- 13:58Speaker 3: Bond the best player that the Eagles have that is
- 14:01Speaker 3: heading to free agency, but he's also the biggest positional need.
- 14:06Speaker 3: And so in my opinion, Zach Bond's the guy that
- 14:08Speaker 3: they've got to bring back. And honestly, I don't think
- 14:10Speaker 3: there's a realistic number that's too high for me. If
- 14:13Speaker 3: I was the one signing that deal, you got to
- 14:15Speaker 3: bring him back.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I think it's so incredible that that's where we're at
- 14:19Speaker 1: right now in terms of thinking about the linebacker position
- 14:21Speaker 1: and what this front office needs to do, because this
- 14:24Speaker 1: has been a team that has built itself through the trenches.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Talking about the offensive line with Mackai Beckton were talking
- 14:30Speaker 1: about Sweat.
- 14:31Speaker 2: And Milton Williams.
- 14:32Speaker 1: The trenches the defensive line have always been a priority,
- 14:35Speaker 1: but it really seems that the linebacker position, because of
- 14:38Speaker 1: what Zach Pond did this year, he should be the
- 14:41Speaker 1: top priority. It's really amazing where this team currently is
- 14:45Speaker 1: right now in terms of what it needs to prioritize.
- 14:48Speaker 1: But I'm wondering, you know who, who are your next
- 14:51Speaker 1: couple of players that you think how we should really
- 14:54Speaker 1: be focusing on bringing back for next season and even beyond.
- 14:58Speaker 1: And is there somebody you might like for how to acquire,
- 15:01Speaker 1: perhaps in a trade.
- 15:03Speaker 2: What are your thoughts? Her Shane?
- 15:05Speaker 3: Yeah, if I was to then start ranking out other guys,
- 15:08Speaker 3: I would like to see Josh Sweat back. I think
- 15:12Speaker 3: he's probably priced himself out of that range with the
- 15:14Speaker 3: Super Bowl performance, because I mean to be honest, he
- 15:17Speaker 3: didn't do a lot down the second half of the
- 15:19Speaker 3: season in terms of sack production. But I wouldn't want
- 15:24Speaker 3: to be tied to him long term or at a
- 15:26Speaker 3: huge number, and I assume he's gonna want that. He's
- 15:28Speaker 3: twenty seven years old, he came out of college with
- 15:31Speaker 3: the knee issues, and so this is probably his last
- 15:34Speaker 3: chance to like cash in on a big contract, but
- 15:37Speaker 3: he hits the Eagles salary cap for sixteen point four
- 15:40Speaker 3: million dollars in dead money next season if he leaves
- 15:43Speaker 3: the team, and so if you could work out a
- 15:44Speaker 3: deal that's reasonable to bring him back for another two years,
- 15:48Speaker 3: I would like to see him back because it gives
- 15:50Speaker 3: you more flexibility in this window. And then the other
- 15:53Speaker 3: guy's Mackai Beckton. I would bring him back on a
- 15:56Speaker 3: reasonable right guard deal, like you know, if he wants
- 15:59Speaker 3: to come back and sign a deal for you know,
- 16:02Speaker 3: three years, thirteen million dollars something like that, I would.
- 16:07Speaker 3: I would not pay him premier offensive guard money. I
- 16:09Speaker 3: don't think he is a premier offensive guard. I think
- 16:11Speaker 3: he was. I think Eagles fans overvalue him. I think
- 16:15Speaker 3: he was kind of an average offensive guard who had
- 16:18Speaker 3: a few I mean, he was a good run blocker,
- 16:20Speaker 3: and he had some splash plays that went viral. I
- 16:23Speaker 3: might have tweeted some of them and they're fun. But
- 16:25Speaker 3: as a pass blocker, he had some struggles. Somebody maybe
- 16:29Speaker 3: pays him offensive tackle money. I don't know, but I
- 16:32Speaker 3: would bring him back if it was on some reasonable
- 16:34Speaker 3: deal too.
- 16:35Speaker 2: All right, Very good again, folks.
- 16:37Speaker 1: We were talking to Shane Half from the eagles Pin
- 16:40Speaker 1: Poll Network on the Shane Page Fantastic Podcast. They're doing
- 16:45Speaker 1: great stuff over at the eagles Pin Poll Network. I
- 16:48Speaker 1: know you're on social buddy. I know a lot of
- 16:50Speaker 1: us have kind of pulled back from Twitter here and there,
- 16:52Speaker 1: still on the platform and stuff, but tell everybody where
- 16:55Speaker 1: they can find you on social media if they want to.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Yeah, so I'm on Twitter at Shanehafl. I also cross
- 17:03Speaker 3: post things on blue Sky. The Blue Sky handles are weird,
- 17:07Speaker 3: but it's the same handle with whatever the dot blue
- 17:09Speaker 3: sky dot social is at the end. Yeah, Twitter is
- 17:13Speaker 3: where I'm at. I actually like never log into blue Sky.
- 17:16Speaker 3: I just cross post from a social media manager. So
- 17:18Speaker 3: if you reply to me on blue Sky, I'm not
- 17:20Speaker 3: going to see it. Thank you for liking getting it
- 17:22Speaker 3: out there. But the discord of our patreons the best
- 17:26Speaker 3: place to interact with me, and then I will interact
- 17:29Speaker 3: on Twitter as well as I kind of have time,
- 17:31Speaker 3: but it's on Blue Sky for those that want to
- 17:33Speaker 3: follow things there.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Yeah, all right.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Well again, fantastic content over at the eagles Pin Pool
- 17:39Speaker 1: Network and of course on the Shane Page podcast too.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Move along here, buddy. I do wonder what the cornerback
- 17:45Speaker 1: position is going to look like next year, What Howie
- 17:48Speaker 1: Roseman and company are going to be doing during this offseason.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I mean, of course, Quinnon Mitchell, he's going to be
- 17:54Speaker 1: on the outside. But if the Eagles and Darius Slay
- 17:57Speaker 1: can't come to an agreement, he may be heading to Detroit,
- 18:00Speaker 1: as he's mentioned that he may like to go back
- 18:02Speaker 1: to if things don't work out with Philly, or perhaps
- 18:04Speaker 1: somewhere else.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Who knows what happens with Slay.
- 18:07Speaker 1: What do you think happens with the outside corner, the
- 18:10Speaker 1: other outside corner of this position here in unit if
- 18:13Speaker 1: Darius Slay leaves Philly.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Yeah, if if Slay leaves under no circumstances, should Cooper
- 18:21Speaker 3: to Gene leave the slot exactly? That's the first point,
- 18:24Speaker 3: Cooper to Jane should stay in the slot. He's a
- 18:26Speaker 3: fundamental part of how they build their defense. So that aside,
- 18:30Speaker 3: if they keep Slay, they're committing to pay him an
- 18:33Speaker 3: additional sixteen million dollars versus letting him go, and not
- 18:37Speaker 3: to get too far down the salary cap rabbit hole,
- 18:39Speaker 3: because to be honest, I would need to put spreadsheets
- 18:42Speaker 3: on the screen so people can follow along, and then
- 18:45Speaker 3: it's an audio platform, so only you and I could
- 18:47Speaker 3: see exactly dead cap has spread over one or two years,
- 18:50Speaker 3: depending on when and how a player's cut, And so
- 18:52Speaker 3: the primary cost of that is down the road. And
- 18:55Speaker 3: so Darius Slay costs thirteen point eight million and twenty
- 18:58Speaker 3: twenty five if they keep him. He costs nine and
- 19:01Speaker 3: a half million if they cut him, and so that's
- 19:04Speaker 3: not a big difference. And so but it's not as
- 19:06Speaker 3: simple as is he worth an extra four million dollars,
- 19:09Speaker 3: because the difference is the dead cap left after that,
- 19:12Speaker 3: which is another eleven million dollar difference. If they can
- 19:17Speaker 3: work something out with Sleigh maybe to lower that that
- 19:20Speaker 3: salary a little bit, I'd love to have him back.
- 19:22Speaker 3: I think Slay is very good. I am very concerned
- 19:24Speaker 3: about the injuries mounting for an older player, and we
- 19:27Speaker 3: saw he I thought he played at a really high
- 19:29Speaker 3: level this year, but he got banged up a lot,
- 19:31Speaker 3: and he's going to be a year older. So I
- 19:33Speaker 3: expect them to either keep Darius Slay or keep Isaiah Rodgers,
- 19:38Speaker 3: but not both. Isaiah Rodgers is going to want to
- 19:40Speaker 3: go somewhere else and start. If he can't start in Philly,
- 19:44Speaker 3: if they get rid of Sleigh, I think they could
- 19:45Speaker 3: bring him back cheaper than Slay would be. I also
- 19:48Speaker 3: still really like Kighley Ringo, and you know, he's a
- 19:51Speaker 3: guy I had a first round great on a couple
- 19:53Speaker 3: of drafts ago, and if he had, you know, in
- 19:55Speaker 3: a worst case scenario, if you lost both of those
- 19:57Speaker 3: guys and Keiley Ringo has to step into start, I
- 19:59Speaker 3: think you'll be okay. Still, So I'm not concerned about
- 20:03Speaker 3: cornerback as long as you leave Cooper to Gene in
- 20:05Speaker 3: the slot.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Absolutely, all right. Well, another aspect of this defense that
- 20:10Speaker 1: a lot of us are wondering about and what may
- 20:12Speaker 1: happen with this particular player during this offseason is a
- 20:16Speaker 1: gentleman named Bryce Huff. Bryce Huff and his sizeable contract
- 20:21Speaker 1: that he signed last offseason only two and a half
- 20:24Speaker 1: sacks this year, wasn't effective on the field really at all.
- 20:28Speaker 1: He wasn't even active in the Super Bowl. Shane, how
- 20:31Speaker 1: do you see the front office and or you know,
- 20:34Speaker 1: defensive coaching staff really dealing with Bryce Huff his contract,
- 20:38Speaker 1: the type of player he is, the fact that he
- 20:39Speaker 1: didn't do much during his first season, in Philadelphia. How
- 20:42Speaker 1: does this all manifest itself? Do you think during the
- 20:45Speaker 1: course of this offseason?
- 20:47Speaker 3: Yeah, if the Eagles could find a trade partner for
- 20:50Speaker 3: Bryce Huff after June first, he would cost them three
- 20:55Speaker 3: point two million dollars in twenty twenty five and nine
- 20:57Speaker 3: point seven million in twenty twenty six.
- 21:00Speaker 2: That might be worth it. That might be worth it.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it would be now that Key is finding
- 21:06Speaker 3: that trade partner. And obviously you know there's precedent of
- 21:09Speaker 3: salary dumps, like the brock Osweiler trade years ago. If
- 21:14Speaker 3: they keep Huff for another year and then they release him,
- 21:18Speaker 3: he would cost seven and a half million, and then
- 21:20Speaker 3: six point three and fifteen point It's so basically the
- 21:22Speaker 3: difference is sixteen point seven million dollars. I would see
- 21:26Speaker 3: if somebody would take Bryce Huff and a fourth round
- 21:28Speaker 3: pick for a conditional seventh if he has like ten
- 21:31Speaker 3: sacks or something. To me, that sixteen point seven million
- 21:35Speaker 3: dollars in cap difference is important down the road. It's
- 21:39Speaker 3: more important than a fourth round pick. I don't think
- 21:42Speaker 3: Huff is worth keeping around now. I don't think Huff
- 21:46Speaker 3: is worthless. There were clearly good signs when he was
- 21:50Speaker 3: with the Jets, but I always question the fit with
- 21:54Speaker 3: fangio scheme, and Fangio gets out on players and it's
- 21:58Speaker 3: usually for a reason. But if he's out on you,
- 22:00Speaker 3: he's not going to play you, no matter how much
- 22:02Speaker 3: money you're making. And we saw that him being inactive
- 22:04Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl. Yeah, I find it hard to
- 22:06Speaker 3: believe that that's going to change from last year to
- 22:09Speaker 3: this coming year in terms of his run defense and
- 22:12Speaker 3: some things. So if I could get it, if I
- 22:14Speaker 3: could get rid of him and it only cost me
- 22:15Speaker 3: a fourth round pick, I'd do that in a heartbeat.
- 22:17Speaker 1: All Right, Well, buddy, it was great talking to you,
- 22:20Speaker 1: but I do have to ask you before I let
- 22:23Speaker 1: you head out about the NFL Draft, because, aside from
- 22:26Speaker 1: free agency, the draft is also on a lot of
- 22:29Speaker 1: our minds. It's that time of year that so many
- 22:32Speaker 1: of us football fans love. I mean, the Eagles currently
- 22:35Speaker 1: have seven picks heading into this draft, if I'm not mistaken,
- 22:39Speaker 1: first round pick, second round pick, third round pick, fourth
- 22:41Speaker 1: round pick, and then I think they have three fifth
- 22:43Speaker 1: round picks if I'm not mistaken. I'm wondering how this
- 22:47Speaker 1: draft is going to look for the Eagles when it's
- 22:49Speaker 1: all said and done, you know what the overall theme
- 22:52Speaker 1: of this draft is going to be for this team
- 22:54Speaker 1: in this front office. I mean, perhaps they're looking to
- 22:57Speaker 1: continue to build in the trenches. Perhaps a change of
- 22:59Speaker 1: pay running back since this draft is full of talented
- 23:03Speaker 1: running backs and you know who knows can he gain well?
- 23:05Speaker 1: Probably moving on maybe a cornerback that could flourish in
- 23:09Speaker 1: Vic Fangio's scheme at some point down the road. What
- 23:12Speaker 1: are your thoughts on the NFL draft in terms of
- 23:14Speaker 1: the Eagles and what the overall theme of this draft
- 23:18Speaker 1: may end up being for this team and organization.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Yeah, BPA is the best approach, and the Eagles tend
- 23:25Speaker 3: to do that with an emphasis on the trenches. In
- 23:28Speaker 3: the last four years, the Eagles have made thirteen selections
- 23:32Speaker 3: with top one hundred picks, and eight of them have
- 23:34Speaker 3: been lineman, five on the defensive side, three on the
- 23:37Speaker 3: offensive side. Now, I'm very anti Lane Johnson replacement in
- 23:43Speaker 3: the first round.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Same here and yes for the same.
- 23:48Speaker 3: So the problem is what people will inevitably talk themselves
- 23:51Speaker 3: into is let's take a right tackle that we can
- 23:54Speaker 3: kick in to right guard until Lane Johnson retires. Here's
- 23:57Speaker 3: the problem, and we saw it with Lennon Dickerson and
- 24:00Speaker 3: who was taken to play left guard until Jason Kelsey retired. Yeah,
- 24:04Speaker 3: he's either going to excel at right guard and then
- 24:07Speaker 3: you won't move him because why would you. And so
- 24:09Speaker 3: you spin a first round pick on a right guard,
- 24:12Speaker 3: or he won't be very good at it, and then
- 24:14Speaker 3: you're seriously going to question whether he'll be good when
- 24:16Speaker 3: he kicks out to right tackle. So I'm not opposed
- 24:20Speaker 3: to drafting a right guard, just don't do it in
- 24:22Speaker 3: the first round. So I'm anti that. I think in
- 24:24Speaker 3: an ideal world, you would get a pass rushing defensive
- 24:28Speaker 3: tackle to reap the benefits of all the pressure that
- 24:31Speaker 3: Jalen Carter or all the attention Jalen Carter is going
- 24:34Speaker 3: to attract. And it is a deep class there, so
- 24:37Speaker 3: there's a lot of defensive tackles that can make sense
- 24:40Speaker 3: assuming Josh sweat walks, and especially if you were to
- 24:43Speaker 3: offload Bryce Huff, you want to get an edge rusher
- 24:45Speaker 3: fairly early as well. Safety is an underrated need. Read
- 24:49Speaker 3: Blanken Chips headed into the final year of his deal.
- 24:52Speaker 3: There's an out on Chauncey Gardner Johnson's contract after this season.
- 24:56Speaker 3: With minimal dead cap, and you know the bit of
- 25:00Speaker 3: time we had to see Tristan McCollum and Sydney Brown,
- 25:02Speaker 3: they didn't expire confidence. I think it was like the
- 25:05Speaker 3: second play they were on the field they gave up
- 25:07Speaker 3: the long touchdown in.
- 25:08Speaker 2: The Super Bowl.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Yes, so safety could be an underrated thing for the future.
- 25:12Speaker 3: And then I'm pretty much always pro drafting a day
- 25:16Speaker 3: three running back, So late day two, day three running back,
- 25:19Speaker 3: especially if Kenny Gainwell's gone to add into that offensive backfield.
- 25:24Speaker 3: That's kind of the direction I see the Eagles trending
- 25:26Speaker 3: in the draft.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Well, it's been a great conversation, folks, and again, head
- 25:31Speaker 1: on over to the Eagles Pinpull network on whatever podcast
