Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: Alabama vs. Georgia SHOWDOWN! Nick Saban Revelations & Cowboys Meltdown | Hour 1
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: And we're live at Innisfree in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and we're outside.
- 0:06Speaker 1: If that tells you anything about the weather, but that
- 0:08Speaker 1: doesn't mean it's not going to change over the next
- 0:10Speaker 1: 24 hours or so. Jim Dunaway, Ryan Brown, Lance Taylor,
- 0:14Speaker 1: the guys are back in the studio as we get
- 0:16Speaker 1: ready for the big game weekend. here in Tuscaloosa. We're
- 0:19Speaker 1: at the beautiful Innisfree, a historic location here. More on
- 0:24Speaker 1: the history of Innisfree and everything it's meant to Alabama
- 0:28Speaker 1: football and big game weekends and maybe even Lane Kiffin
- 0:32Speaker 1: as the show progresses.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Featured recently in Vanity Fair.
- 0:36Speaker 1: We'll talk everything about Innisfree and when the doors open,
- 0:40Speaker 1: the crowd will fill in and we will get ready
- 0:41Speaker 1: for a big game weekend.
- 0:43Speaker 2: But first, I want to say this off the top.
- 0:47Speaker 1: And this includes our wonderful friends at the Floribama down
- 0:50Speaker 1: there where they've been, you know, tightening everything up, putting
- 0:53Speaker 1: everything away, getting ready.
- 0:54Speaker 2: For the storm.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Over the next few hours, the hurricane will make landfall
- 0:59Speaker 1: down around Pensacola Beach and right there on the Florida-Alabama
- 1:02Speaker 1: line where the Floribama is. And we've talked a lot
- 1:05Speaker 1: this week about this storm and how it's going to
- 1:08Speaker 1: impact this major football game here in Tuscaloosa.
- 1:11Speaker 2: And I don't know if we've said it enough. We
- 1:13Speaker 2: mentioned it a couple times, but enough.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Our thoughts and prayers are with everybody down there on
- 1:17Speaker 1: the Gulf and right Gulf adjacent down in South Alabama,
- 1:20Speaker 1: Northwest Florida and South Mississippi. We have a lot of
- 1:24Speaker 1: friends and family and a lot of people that got
- 1:26Speaker 1: property down there. It's always a trying nerve wracking time.
- 1:28Speaker 1: And we're thinking about all of you as we sit
- 1:31Speaker 1: here in Tuscaloosa today. Yeah, not to discount it.
- 1:33Speaker 3: I was talking to one of my best friends in
- 1:34Speaker 3: the world, Drew, and they've got a place in Rosemary
- 1:36Speaker 3: and he's heading down right now.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I'm like, why in the hell are you heading to
- 1:39Speaker 2: the middle of the storm?
- 1:40Speaker 3: And he's like, well, everything we're going to secure everything
- 1:43Speaker 3: at the house. He was like, everything should pass tonight, 10, 11,
- 1:47Speaker 3: 12 o'clock. And he's like, after that, it's going to
- 1:48Speaker 3: be absolutely beautiful. Daughters on fall break. He's like, we're
- 1:51Speaker 3: going to stay down until Tuesday. It sounds again, I
- 1:55Speaker 3: don't want to discount this because you never know. Cause
- 1:57Speaker 3: I discounted Katrina and I did it on the air
- 2:00Speaker 3: and I was really embarrassed by it because it sounded
- 2:02Speaker 3: like it was a little overrated in the beginning, but
- 2:05Speaker 3: And then obviously levees break and everything goes to hell.
- 2:08Speaker 2: So don't want to discount it.
- 2:09Speaker 3: But at the same time, it seems as the week
- 2:11Speaker 3: has progressed, it's not going to be as bad as
- 2:14Speaker 3: they thought.
- 2:14Speaker 1: It's going to be a stronger storm from what I've
- 2:17Speaker 1: seen than they thought. I think there's a chance it
- 2:20Speaker 1: makes landfall as a Category 3 when initially they were
- 2:22Speaker 1: saying maybe just a Category 1. I say just any
- 2:25Speaker 1: hurricanes deadly. I think the good news is every time
- 2:30Speaker 1: we've seen a forecast, they keep it moving faster and faster.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So at least it will move on out and not just,
- 2:35Speaker 1: you know, Yeah. Stay put there, but some of the
- 2:37Speaker 1: more damaging storms in time have got hung up right
- 2:40Speaker 1: when they make landfall and continue to just pound and
- 2:42Speaker 1: pound and pound the coast, adding to.
- 2:44Speaker 2: The, the water surge and, and all of that.
- 2:47Speaker 1: But we're thinking about everybody down there, including our wonderful
- 2:50Speaker 1: friend at the floor, Bama, where we will do a
- 2:52Speaker 1: show again in December.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And, uh, You know, we spent so many good times.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Most of our audience has spent great times at the Floribama.
- 2:59Speaker 1: So thinking about everybody down on the Gulf Coast from 30A,
- 3:02Speaker 1: one of my favorite places in the world, to Floribama
- 3:04Speaker 1: and everywhere in between and around.
- 3:06Speaker 3: And not to bring it to football, but because we
- 3:08Speaker 3: are in Tuscaloosa and the biggest game of the weekend
- 3:10Speaker 3: is right here with Georgia and Alabama, a top six matchup.
- 3:13Speaker 3: It does look tomorrow, and I don't know what you
- 3:15Speaker 3: guys have seen, like there's going to be rain throughout
- 3:18Speaker 3: the day, but it's not going to be that big.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Of a deal.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Yeah, here in Tuscaloosa, it's going to be a much
- 3:21Speaker 1: more muted game day. There's no doubt about it.
- 3:23Speaker 2: I mean, even.
- 3:25Speaker 1: the actual game day is moving inside to Coleman Coliseum.
- 3:28Speaker 1: But a lot of the normal things they do around
- 3:32Speaker 1: us here, we are at Innisfree, which is not too
- 3:35Speaker 1: far from the stadium. The normal stuff they do around
- 3:37Speaker 1: the stadium, some of that is going to be scaled back.
- 3:41Speaker 1: But I think by the time we get to kickoff,
- 3:43Speaker 1: it's going to be pretty normal. As normal as it
- 3:45Speaker 1: can be, obviously, if you haven't tailgated all day, I
- 3:47Speaker 1: don't know what the crowd's going to be like, but
- 3:48Speaker 1: they'll probably be revved up because they're probably going to
- 3:50Speaker 1: be tired of being cooped up or whatever inside of bars.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I've almost bought into coming down. Almost. You're almost thinking
- 3:57Speaker 2: about it.
- 3:57Speaker 1: The last thing I saw from James Spann, the noted meteorologist,
- 4:01Speaker 1: most people know him around the country. It says that
- 4:04Speaker 1: the The storm actually will move through Tuscaloosa by noon.
- 4:07Speaker 2: It'll be out of the way by noon.
- 4:08Speaker 1: So some aftermath chances of rain, but really not a
- 4:13Speaker 1: whole lot of rain, not a whole lot of wind
- 4:15Speaker 1: in the forecast when we actually play the game at 630.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Game's on schedule. Everything's on schedule.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And you may even have a tailgate window for about
- 4:23Speaker 1: four hours to get out and tailgate when it's all
- 4:25Speaker 1: said and done, which is amazing because the storm hasn't
- 4:27Speaker 1: even moved in. We've got blue skies here. but behind
- 4:30Speaker 1: us as it moves towards the through the NS free
- 4:32Speaker 1: here the clouds will be coming from behind us here
- 4:35Speaker 1: and that'll be building up as we go throughout the
- 4:37Speaker 1: show today but we expect to be rain free at
- 4:40Speaker 1: Innisfree today as we.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Do this show.
- 4:43Speaker 3: And I can't wait to see what the Georgia contingent
- 4:46Speaker 3: looks like.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. We'll see some of that filtering here
- 4:49Speaker 2: at Innisfree.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I mean, they've got to be excited. I mean, they
- 4:51Speaker 3: have gone forever without a national championship. And, you know, this,
- 4:55Speaker 3: you know, we were just saying last Friday, they look
- 4:58Speaker 3: like the best team in college football. And now it's
- 5:01Speaker 3: let's kind of wait and see what Alabama is able
- 5:03Speaker 3: to do as a one and a Before we actually
- 5:06Speaker 3: anoint them the best team in football should be a
- 5:08Speaker 3: hell of a game. But I'm very interested to see
- 5:10Speaker 3: how many Georgia fans come over just based on the weather.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Well, we'll talk about that game coming up in a second.
- 5:15Speaker 1: But as always, we start about what we saw last
- 5:17Speaker 1: night and work our way into the show today here
- 5:19Speaker 1: at Innisfree. And our show is brought to you, of course,
- 5:22Speaker 1: always by our friends at Hard Rock Bet. Hard Rock

- 6:23Speaker 1: All right, first off, the Saban documentary premiere was here
- 6:27Speaker 1: in town at the Bama Theater last night, and they
- 6:30Speaker 1: had the red carpet set up. The Sabans were there.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Our buddy Marty Smith, Laura Rutledge was there. Reese was there.
- 6:37Speaker 1: The Game Day crew was there. As they went through that,
- 6:40Speaker 1: a lot of friends and family, some of the players
- 6:43Speaker 1: were there.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I saw Terry Saban read.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Card.
- 6:47Speaker 1: She was like, we were just leaving the house and
- 6:48Speaker 1: this beautiful, huge set of white flowers showed up at
- 6:52Speaker 1: our door and everybody was.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Like, oh, who are they from? Who are they from?
- 6:55Speaker 1: And Terry reads this on the stage because they had
- 6:57Speaker 1: a Q & A before the premiere and.
- 6:59Speaker 2: She reads it.
- 7:00Speaker 1: She's like, it says, Coach, Nick and Terry, thank you
- 7:05Speaker 1: guys so much for letting me be a small part
- 7:07Speaker 1: of y'all's story. I knew the first time that Coach
- 7:10Speaker 1: visited my dad's house in 2015 that I would be
- 7:14Speaker 1: a special part that you guys would be a special
- 7:16Speaker 1: part of my life.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Enjoy the night. Congratulations, Jalen Hurts. Oh, wow.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and so many of the players, and I did
- 7:23Speaker 1: watch episode one, you know, with my Buccaneers, Enforcers, White
- 7:27Speaker 1: Sox playing. I didn't want to burn through it too fast,
- 7:30Speaker 1: but episode one was very entertaining. My biggest takeaway from
- 7:37Speaker 1: episode one, not to give anything away, but was the
- 7:39Speaker 1: sports psychologist that worked at Michigan State who changed the
- 7:44Speaker 1: way Nick Saban was the coach. And they actually put
- 7:46Speaker 1: his graphic up after he met with the sports psychologist.
- 7:50Speaker 1: He was like 32 and 22 as a coach, 32, 22,
- 7:53Speaker 1: and one or something like that. And then after that,
- 7:55Speaker 1: he was like 265 and 49.
- 7:58Speaker 2: He was the guy that convinced him. It worked. And
- 8:00Speaker 2: it showed him.
- 8:01Speaker 1: And it had interviews with Michigan State players talking about,
- 8:04Speaker 1: and even post-game, like after a loss in this documentary,
- 8:07Speaker 1: they had the quarterback up there and they were like,
- 8:09Speaker 1: What did Coach Saban say to you guys at halftime
- 8:12Speaker 1: to try to motivate you guys for the second half? Really,
- 8:16Speaker 1: he didn't try to motivate us at all in the
- 8:17Speaker 1: second half. It was just a whole lot of things
- 8:19Speaker 1: we were doing wrong. And then his philosophy changed on
- 8:23Speaker 1: how he coached. And it came from the sports psychologist
- 8:25Speaker 1: guys like, look, man, you can't think about the school board.
- 8:29Speaker 2: It's six seconds at a time. That's all football is,
- 8:31Speaker 2: six seconds at a time.
- 8:33Speaker 1: And the light bulb went off and they went back
- 8:34Speaker 1: to that big, Michigan State four touchdown underdog win in
- 8:37Speaker 1: Columbus overall number one Ohio State and the the way
- 8:41Speaker 1: it portrayed in the meeting in the documentary was the
- 8:45Speaker 1: meeting with Saban happened the week of leading up to
- 8:47Speaker 1: that game he was like nobody thinks we're going to
- 8:49Speaker 1: win and he asked the sports psychologist how how do
- 8:53Speaker 1: I how do I motivate our guys when I don't
- 8:55Speaker 1: even think we're going to win and he's in he
- 8:58Speaker 1: was like it's not about the score it's about six
- 9:00Speaker 1: seconds at a time.
- 9:00Speaker 2: And The rest is history.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't see last night. I'm obviously going to
- 9:04Speaker 3: watch the whole thing, and I'm looking forward to it.
- 9:07Speaker 3: But I did hear Saban last week when he was
- 9:09Speaker 3: doing the car wash and talking to everybody, and he
- 9:11Speaker 3: talked about how important his time at Michigan State was
- 9:15Speaker 3: because that's where he learned about the process.
- 9:17Speaker 2: And I guess that was part of it.
- 9:18Speaker 3: I also wonder, and I don't know how much they
- 9:20Speaker 3: went into this, we all remember the infamous when he
- 9:23Speaker 3: left Michigan State and went to LSU. There was one
- 9:25Speaker 3: person on the plane, Bobby Williams, I think, right?
- 9:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:29Speaker 3: It seemed like a lot of coaches stuck around. He
- 9:31Speaker 3: might have been a pain in the ass here. You
- 9:33Speaker 3: wonder if he became more bearable or it's just the
- 9:36Speaker 3: fact that they were winning at such a high level
- 9:38Speaker 3: and all of these guys knew they were going to
- 9:40Speaker 3: get their opportunity.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good question.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I don't know because I've talked to former Saban assistants
- 9:45Speaker 1: and I've heard both.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Sides of it. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:48Speaker 1: We had one pretty successful one tell Brown and I
- 9:50Speaker 1: privately one time that I think he was interested in
- 9:54Speaker 1: a job in Birmingham and he was like, hey, whatever
- 9:56Speaker 1: young dude helped promote me for this job, I've got
- 9:58Speaker 1: to get out of my life.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Life's going to leave me.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I mean, was it, was it Pete Jenkins? That was
- 10:03Speaker 3: the guy that said, I will never coach under Nick
- 10:04Speaker 3: Saban again.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Maybe I can't remember. Went to the Eagles. Maybe I
- 10:07Speaker 2: think it was PG.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure there are many that have said
- 10:10Speaker 1: that it's not, you gotta have a stomach.
- 10:13Speaker 2: It ain't for everybody. That's for dang. You think Spurrier
- 10:15Speaker 2: is an assistant could have coached for Saban? No.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I mean, but you hear stories like, uh, when they
- 10:19Speaker 1: were building it here in Tuscaloosa was we got one
- 10:22Speaker 1: day off and it was Christmas Eve.
- 10:24Speaker 2: We didn't even get Christmas day off. Once we were
- 10:25Speaker 2: done with the kids, we were back in the office.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, it's, it's the guy was consumed with like,
- 10:30Speaker 1: I saw part of the Theo Vaughn podcast.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I don't know if you guys, that's one of the.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Best Saban interviews I've ever seen.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I haven't watched a lot of it.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I've just gotten some clips on Tik TOK and he
- 10:38Speaker 1: tells the story, which I envision the story being right
- 10:40Speaker 1: out of here on three 59. I don't know if
- 10:44Speaker 1: that's the case, but that's just in my mind where
- 10:46Speaker 1: I envisioned it, that, He and his wife are driving,
- 10:49Speaker 1: and I don't know.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I do this.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys do this. 100% of
- 10:53Speaker 1: the time. But they come up on a merge where
- 10:55Speaker 1: it's all backed up. I go as far as I can.
- 10:58Speaker 2: In the merge. Oh, yeah. Yeah, and then just try
- 11:00Speaker 2: to work your way over.
- 11:01Speaker 1: 100%, somebody's going to be late to the gas, and
- 11:03Speaker 1: I'm going to dive over and get in.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Somebody's texting. Somebody's doing something. Or you get a nice person.
- 11:09Speaker 2: That's right.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Or you just, you know, back up on the wave.
- 11:11Speaker 1: So I'm always going to go as far as I can.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And he said, for 50 years of my life, I've
- 11:14Speaker 1: done that. And he goes, so after I retire, he's
- 11:17Speaker 1: telling Theo Vaughn this, after I retire, we're in traffic,
- 11:20Speaker 1: it's backed up, and I just sit in traffic. And
- 11:22Speaker 1: he goes, Terry looks over at me and says, you're
- 11:24Speaker 1: not going to drive up there and try to? He's like, no,
- 11:26Speaker 1: we're going to know where to be.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah, we're not in a hurry.
- 11:28Speaker 1: And he's like, and I realized then for 50 years
- 11:31Speaker 1: I've lived my entire life in a hurry. And now
- 11:33Speaker 1: that I've retired, I've realized this is kind of nice.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I may not have been in a hurry. I have
- 11:38Speaker 3: tried to do that more in the last couple of years.
- 11:40Speaker 2: It's hard to do. So freaking important.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:43Speaker 2: So I try to put myself in that situation.
- 11:46Speaker 1: But I hate sending traffic. I get it with Coach Saban.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I do it like the sports psychologist. I do it
- 11:51Speaker 1: in six-second increments. I'm patient for.
- 11:53Speaker 3: About six seconds. Well, I don't know if you guys
- 11:55Speaker 3: saw it. I know you came really early. I don't
- 11:57Speaker 3: know what time you got here, Dunaway. But when I
- 11:59Speaker 3: was going out 59, there was a wreck right outside
- 12:02Speaker 3: of McCollough coming back. And so it was backed up
- 12:05Speaker 3: coming into Birmingham. And I was just thinking, man, if
- 12:08Speaker 3: this was flipped around, I'd be in a little bit
- 12:10Speaker 3: of trouble as far as getting down here. and that
- 12:13Speaker 3: is one of the worst things because you just feel
- 12:14Speaker 3: like you're wasting time in traffic, but there's nothing you can.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Do about it.
- 12:17Speaker 1: But my daughter, I've obviously ingrained this in my daughter.
- 12:20Speaker 1: She's a student at South Alabama, and obviously with a
- 12:23Speaker 1: hurricane coming, and their own fall break anyway, but she
- 12:26Speaker 1: was coming back home, and there was a lot of
- 12:27Speaker 1: traffic leaving the Gulf, as you might imagine.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Evacuations, yeah.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Yeah, coming up 65 north, and she told me, she goes,
- 12:33Speaker 1: I just dove off and took the back roads because
- 12:35Speaker 1: I'm like you, Dad. I just don't like to sit
- 12:36Speaker 1: in traffic. She goes, if it added 10 minutes to
- 12:38Speaker 1: my drive, it was well worth it not to sit still,
- 12:40Speaker 1: and I'm like, kind of raised you well yeah i
- 12:42Speaker 1: at least ingrained something in you there don't sit still
- 12:44Speaker 1: in traffic add 10 minutes to the drive to keep
- 12:46Speaker 1: moving i'll do that 100 i would too yeah just
- 12:49Speaker 1: bounce off yeah 10 15 minutes that's no big deal
- 12:51Speaker 1: if i keep moving uh all the um episodes are
- 12:53Speaker 1: up on the espn app and uh one aired last
- 12:56Speaker 1: night i assume inside the theater they only aired one
- 13:00Speaker 1: episode but they had a question and answer with the
- 13:03Speaker 1: producer and coach saban and terry up there and.
- 13:05Speaker 2: It was just uh Well done.
- 13:07Speaker 1: They had the band, you know, streets blocked off in
- 13:09Speaker 1: downtown Tuscaloosa just a few blocks over from here. So
- 13:13Speaker 1: a big night for the Sabans and for everyone in town.
- 13:16Speaker 1: It worked out perfectly to debut at Georgia Week with
- 13:19Speaker 1: game day here in town and all of that. We'll
- 13:21Speaker 1: talk about the actual games that are going on in
- 13:23Speaker 1: college football, including a great Friday night slate coming up
- 13:27Speaker 1: here in a second.
- 13:27Speaker 2: But last night in the NFL, we'll start there first.
- 13:30Speaker 1: My Tampa Bay Buccaneers got a win that I didn't
- 13:33Speaker 1: think they had a chance to win.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Because the Cowboys.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Needed that win badly. And the Bucs are without their
- 13:38Speaker 1: quarterback and true rookie, true freshman, basically. Jalen Daniels, in
- 13:44Speaker 1: his second start, managed the game well. But it was
- 13:47Speaker 1: how the Buccaneers were able to run it down the Cowboys' throat.
- 13:51Speaker 1: And I don't understand it.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Yeah, 241 rushing yards. The Cowboys on the other side,
- 13:55Speaker 3: only 50 rushing yards. And, you know, if you would
- 13:58Speaker 3: have said, and one of the reasons we were talking before,
- 14:01Speaker 3: I did not give out a game in the NFL
- 14:03Speaker 3: last night because I knew the Bucs were the right side.
- 14:05Speaker 3: But a team that had lost 12 against the number consecutive,
- 14:09Speaker 3: they were 0-4. You've got a backup quarterback making his
- 14:13Speaker 3: second NFL start, an undrafted free agent rookie in Jalen Daniels,
- 14:16Speaker 3: who played pretty well, very efficient last night. But Bucky
- 14:19Speaker 3: Irving was the difference. And on the other side, I
- 14:21Speaker 3: don't know what was worse, the Cowboys' offense or Christian
- 14:24Speaker 3: Parker's defense. Both were equally bad. And what it's reminding
- 14:27Speaker 3: me of, is the NFC South last year. This NFC
- 14:31Speaker 3: East is an absolute disaster.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Are the Cowboys going to screw this up though, Lance? Listen,
- 14:36Speaker 1: they've got the Giants starting Jameis Winston.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Yep.
- 14:40Speaker 1: They've got the Eagles trading off parts and looking like
- 14:44Speaker 1: they're entering a rebuild. And you've got the commanders who
- 14:47Speaker 1: apparently are going to start Jaden Daniels with a massive
- 14:49Speaker 1: brace on his arm, but they've been playing it back up.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Like this sets up so perfectly for the Cowboys to
- 14:54Speaker 1: win this division and go to the playoffs. And I
- 14:57Speaker 1: know we're only five weeks into this, but it feels
- 14:59Speaker 1: like they're going to find a way to screw it up.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Well, I would love for them to win it and
- 15:02Speaker 3: my Rams be on the road and play in Dallas.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Of course, and you could go. Would love that.
- 15:06Speaker 3: No, not necessarily that, but just the fact that can
- 15:08Speaker 3: you really trust the Dallas Cowboys? It is so weird
- 15:11Speaker 3: right now. And looking at Jerry Jones, he's looked old
- 15:14Speaker 3: for 30 years. But watching him in the box last night,
- 15:17Speaker 3: like he looks like he is a minute away from death.
- 15:19Speaker 3: I hate to say that. It's the fact of the matter.
- 15:22Speaker 3: And unfortunately, he's never going to win another championship.
- 15:24Speaker 1: When Dak threw that last interception, which was not his fault,
- 15:26Speaker 1: he hit his tight end right in his face. Just
- 15:29Speaker 1: Jerry's reaction, man. This guy just lives and dies with
- 15:33Speaker 1: every play. It had to build up the whole game
- 15:36Speaker 1: because you're sitting there and you've got a quarterback. I mean,
- 15:40Speaker 1: I am a, I know nothing about football, but if
- 15:43Speaker 1: I'm game planning going into that game, the one thing
- 15:45Speaker 1: I can't let Tampa Bay do is run the football.
- 15:48Speaker 2: I'm going to make Jalen Daniels for four quarters. It's
- 15:52Speaker 2: really like he played. He played great, but I would
- 15:54Speaker 2: make him have to make throws all night long. I'd
- 15:56Speaker 2: be seven in the box all night. And how is
- 15:58Speaker 2: Brian Schottenheimer?
- 15:59Speaker 3: You target, and look, and I know that Todd Bowles
- 16:03Speaker 3: was probably like, we've got to shut down C.D. Lamb,
- 16:05Speaker 3: but he had 21 targets and 17 grabs last week
- 16:09Speaker 3: against the Houston Texans, and they targeted him five times,
- 16:11Speaker 3: two grabs last night for nine yards.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and he went out.
- 16:15Speaker 5: C.D.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Lamb was out hurt, too, at the end of that
- 16:16Speaker 1: game with a quad injury. I think he tried to
- 16:19Speaker 1: come back in and couldn't do it. Can we address
- 16:21Speaker 1: the coaching decisions at the end? Oh, I want to
- 16:23Speaker 1: bring it up right here. Go ahead Even with a win,
- 16:26Speaker 1: I'm still upset about the decision Tampa Bay's up 14
- 16:31Speaker 1: and I don't even have to have a guy who's
- 16:33Speaker 1: paid to do what you don't need the analytics Yeah,
- 16:37Speaker 1: I don't need an analytic guy. He's standing behind me
- 16:38Speaker 1: with that big book if they're on the one-yard line
- 16:41Speaker 1: and We're in the fourth quarter.
- 16:43Speaker 2: There's only so many possessions. Eight minutes to go, basically.
- 16:45Speaker 1: And you kick the easiest field goal you're ever going
- 16:48Speaker 1: to kick, but they go for it on fourth down,
- 16:50Speaker 1: and they don't get in. You kick that field goal 100%
- 16:54Speaker 1: of the time to go up 17 points.
- 16:57Speaker 2: With eight minutes to go. That's three possessions.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Especially in the NFL, because possessions are so much more limited.
- 17:02Speaker 3: The thinking behind it was Bucky Irving's having such a game.
- 17:06Speaker 3: We're kind of road grading right now this Dallas defense.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Bucky Irving's not even in the game. That's the thing.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Irving's not even in the game. You kick it, you
- 17:14Speaker 3: go up 17. That game is over.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Can you imagine? I mean, ball in hand, down eight.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Instead of the pick, if Dallas would have gone, scored,
- 17:21Speaker 3: ties it up, and they win the game in overtime.
- 17:23Speaker 2: They almost threw a pick six. I think Bowles is gone.
- 17:26Speaker 2: I do, too. That's what I told Dunaway.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I was like, if you wanted Bowles fired, you should
- 17:30Speaker 1: have pulled for the Cowboys because I think he would
- 17:31Speaker 1: have gotten fired last night for that one.
- 17:35Speaker 2: It was malpractice. I had to be ready to go.
- 17:38Speaker 2: But the Buccaneers follow me.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I know you get upset when I say things because
- 17:41Speaker 1: AJ may be watching or the Bucs may be following.
- 17:44Speaker 1: But the Buccaneers official account follows me for some reason.
- 17:47Speaker 1: And I didn't want to say this guy should be
- 17:50Speaker 1: fired even in the win. But I really do believe
- 17:54Speaker 1: that he should be fired even in the victory because
- 17:57Speaker 1: you can't trust him to make that decision down the road.
- 17:59Speaker 2: That was malpractice last night.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, so many people put in so much
- 18:03Speaker 3: hard work throughout the week.
- 18:05Speaker 2: You're 0-4. These guys want to taste a win.
- 18:09Speaker 3: And you almost put them in a situation where they're
- 18:11Speaker 3: able to come back from two possessions down in the
- 18:14Speaker 3: fourth quarter.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Can you imagine Jalen Daniels, as well as he played
- 18:17Speaker 1: last night, and got him on that drive with Lucky Irving,
- 18:19Speaker 1: who poured his guts out last night, their offensive line.
- 18:22Speaker 2: You got him down to the one. You kick that
- 18:24Speaker 2: field goal. You're up three possessions.
- 18:25Speaker 1: If they had lost that game, all those guys did
- 18:27Speaker 1: on offense to produce enough points for you to win.
- 18:30Speaker 2: That would have been so horrible.
- 18:31Speaker 3: And more than likely, Jalen Daniels, you know, is going
- 18:34Speaker 3: to hang around the NF for a little bit. And,
- 18:35Speaker 3: you know, maybe he catches on and maybe he strikes
- 18:38Speaker 3: magic and ends up being a starting quarterback. More than likely, though,
- 18:40Speaker 3: he's in for a couple of years, he's out. Like,
- 18:42Speaker 3: he's telling his kids and his grandkids– My second start
- 18:46Speaker 3: was on Amazon Prime on a Thursday night.
- 18:48Speaker 2: I went to Dallas, and I beat the Dallas Cowboys.
- 18:50Speaker 2: That's right.
- 18:50Speaker 1: It's a bigger deal than it sounds. The Amazon Prime.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I would not include that part. My second start. He
- 18:56Speaker 1: said it, actually, last night after the game. And my granddad's.
- 18:59Speaker 1: And my father's football world was on Monday Night Football.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Now it's on Amazon Prime. It was a special Thursday
- 19:06Speaker 1: night game, son. It wasn't even on Monday Night Football.
- 19:08Speaker 1: We were playing the Cowboys. But a terrible game. But
- 19:11Speaker 1: then Schottenheimer. And before I even say what I'm going
- 19:14Speaker 1: to say, y'all don't come at me with the analytics.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I know that two-point conversions are supposedly a 50-50 proposition.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I was so thankful.
- 19:22Speaker 1: So if I go for two and I don't make
- 19:24Speaker 1: a really good chance I'm going to make the next one,
- 19:26Speaker 1: I get all of that. But I also feel like
- 19:28Speaker 1: these coaches do that so they look smart sometimes. Like Schottenheimer,
- 19:32Speaker 1: you are so lucky to be in this game.
- 19:34Speaker 2: That's right.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And you score to go down eight and go for
- 19:37Speaker 1: two because you want to be the smartest guy in
- 19:39Speaker 1: the room, it feels like. And I know everybody's going
- 19:41Speaker 1: to give me the analytics stuff, the 50-50, I get
- 19:44Speaker 1: all that. But I'll tell you, when it feels like
- 19:46Speaker 1: you've screwed up is when you missed the first two-point conversion.
- 19:48Speaker 2: That's right.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Now, if you get it, now all I've got to
- 19:50Speaker 1: do is kick the extra point to win the game
- 19:51Speaker 1: if I score it.
- 19:52Speaker 3: But if you don't, then it comes down to a
- 19:53Speaker 3: two-point conversion to take it to overtime.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Because as a Buccaneers fan, I'm like, we're on skates now.
- 19:58Speaker 1: If he kicks this, it's a seven-point game. And they're
- 20:00Speaker 1: going to come down and tie if it goes to overtime,
- 20:02Speaker 1: or they may go for two to try to win it.
- 20:05Speaker 1: But when they missed it, I was like, okay, the
- 20:06Speaker 1: worst case scenario is we're going to go overtime.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Yeah, back to the difference in the college and the
- 20:10Speaker 3: NFL game. Some college coaches, I can give them a
- 20:13Speaker 3: pass doing that. I would still kick the extra point
- 20:16Speaker 3: and make it a seven-point game. But in college, I
- 20:18Speaker 3: think the analytics are even better on that two-point conversion.
- 20:21Speaker 2: But I still would disagree with it.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes I feel like these coaches do it so
- 20:25Speaker 1: they look smart.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree.
- 20:27Speaker 1: And I feel like Schottenheimer was doing that last night. Like,
- 20:29Speaker 1: they suck the whole game. They finally score, and he's like, I.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Got this, guys. Let me show you how smart I am.
- 20:35Speaker 2: I got it. I got it.
- 20:36Speaker 3: But if they would have gotten the two, and I
- 20:38Speaker 3: agree with you guys, they shouldn't have gone for the two.
- 20:40Speaker 3: But ball in hand at the end there, it would
- 20:42Speaker 3: have felt a lot different.
- 20:44Speaker 2: As Daniel says, it increases win probability. It does it
- 20:47Speaker 2: when you miss it. Yeah.
- 20:48Speaker 1: When you missed it, it did not increase win probability
- 20:50Speaker 1: at all. It decreased it. I mean, I don't know
- 20:53Speaker 1: how you guys, I don't know level of excitement, Lance.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I know you always seem like a hundred for Rams games,
- 20:59Speaker 1: but there were certain games that my level for excitement
- 21:02Speaker 1: for that game last night.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Was very low. Well, I mean, you go out, you
- 21:06Speaker 2: have 14 penalties. Yeah.
- 21:08Speaker 3: And you win the game on the road as an 0-14.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:11Speaker 3: I mean, that's what happens when you turn it over.
- 21:13Speaker 3: You're minus three in turnovers, the home team in Dallas.
- 21:16Speaker 3: I just, what a messy, sloppy game.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Like, I was too embarrassed to admit it on the air,
- 21:20Speaker 1: but I was going to have the quad box going
- 21:24Speaker 1: with the two college football games I wanted, and then
- 21:27Speaker 1: Forrester's White Sox playing And I guess three college in
- 21:31Speaker 1: the White Sox. And my third, my other side TV,
- 21:33Speaker 1: I was going to have the Bucs on. And I
- 21:35Speaker 1: was just going to watch all the Saban all night
- 21:37Speaker 1: long and glance over at that during boring part. But
- 21:41Speaker 1: I started with the Bucs on and, you know, after
- 21:44Speaker 1: that first drive, I was like, OK, here we go.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Seven nothing.
- 21:46Speaker 1: When they came back and drove the whole first quarter
- 21:48Speaker 1: and punched it in, I was like. All right, I'll
- 21:51Speaker 1: keep watching this. And it ended up being a fun game.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I was at our friend's at Walcons. I actually
- 21:56Speaker 3: ran into Brown and his family there.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Post-soccer practice.
- 21:58Speaker 3: But I was there with a couple of buddies, and
- 22:00Speaker 3: there was a guy across the bar, one of our listeners,
- 22:02Speaker 3: and he was like, you're playing the Cowboys tonight.
- 22:04Speaker 2: And I was like, I'm not playing the Cowboys. He
- 22:07Speaker 2: was like, it is easy money. Easy money. Everybody thought.
- 22:10Speaker 2: That's what you're like, dang it, I should have played.
- 22:12Speaker 2: I couldn't do it. I couldn't do it. No, absolutely.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Righteous gemstone yesterday. I'm good up to 13 and a
- 22:16Speaker 1: half points, remember?
- 22:17Speaker 2: I do. First really outright loss.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Quickly, last night, UTSA big winner over USF, 31-24 entertaining
- 22:25Speaker 1: football game down at the Alamo Dome.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Two-point conversion gave us the cover. Wow. Right there at
- 22:30Speaker 2: the end with five seconds. That's when you're for the two, right?
- 22:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I like that because we've been getting burned on
- 22:34Speaker 3: the other side of those. That was a back-and-forth game.
- 22:37Speaker 3: It looked like Brian Hartland's got a– I didn't realize
- 22:40Speaker 3: he has a sleeve tat.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Oh, does he? I did not know that either. You
- 22:43Speaker 2: don't see a lot of head coaches. You don't. You'll
- 22:45Speaker 2: see more in the future. More in the future, absolutely.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Hopefully you had the over in the South Alabama-Arkansas State game, 56-49.
- 22:51Speaker 1: It's like a video game.
- 22:54Speaker 3: And I hate it because I tell you what, I
- 22:56Speaker 3: saw Butch Jones get off the bus, and he was
- 22:58Speaker 3: dressed like the Redneck Gangster.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Oh, come on, Butch.
- 23:02Speaker 1: It was like my daughter, like I said, she was
- 23:05Speaker 1: at home. She's a South Alabama student. She had the
- 23:07Speaker 1: game on her phone. She goes, Dad, this is second quarter, 38-24.
- 23:09Speaker 1: I was like, no, that's not right.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Yeah. I was like, you.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Know, I think she was using ESPN app. I was like,
- 23:15Speaker 1: apps are wrong. Just go find it somewhere else.
- 23:17Speaker 2: And I pulled it up.
- 23:17Speaker 1: I was like, no, there's 38 seconds left to go
- 23:19Speaker 1: in the second quarter. And it's 24. It's like defense
- 23:22Speaker 1: optional in that one. And then there's Forrester. Forrester, can
- 23:26Speaker 1: we get your microphone? Welfare check this morning. Guardians beat
- 23:30Speaker 1: the White Sox 9-5. Good news is, if you win
- 23:33Speaker 1: this series, Forrester, the streak to, what was it, 19-oh-whatever?
- 23:38Speaker 2: 19-06.
- 23:38Speaker 1: 19-06, the Clencher series at home. You're not going to
- 23:41Speaker 1: do it. You're back to Cleveland now for a decisive
- 23:43Speaker 1: game five. What's your sweat level, pucker level?
- 23:47Speaker 2: Oh, I'm just bummed.
- 23:51Speaker 5: Like, they, there's so many guys who are just coming
- 23:57Speaker 5: up so small in the moment right now.
- 24:00Speaker 2: You've got a bunch of accoutrements, don't you?
- 24:01Speaker 5: 31 strikeouts in these two games in Chicago.
- 24:07Speaker 2: It's hard to do. 12 more last night.
- 24:10Speaker 3: I came in the office early this morning, and I
- 24:12Speaker 3: was talking to Forrester about this, and we were talking
- 24:14Speaker 3: about the decision for Gavin Williams to go in the
- 24:17Speaker 3: game when the game's over in the ninth. First time
- 24:19Speaker 3: he's ever had a relief appearance, and now they're talking
- 24:21Speaker 3: about starting him tomorrow night in game five.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Like, why do you bring him in and let him
- 24:26Speaker 2: throw there?
- 24:27Speaker 5: I'm glad they did.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure you are.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Now, just for historical facts, The last time a team
- 24:34Speaker 3: blew an 0-2 lead in a best-of-five, you've got to
- 24:37Speaker 3: go back to 2017. It was the Yankees over the Guardians.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Ninety-three times this has happened. Eighty-three and ten are the
- 24:45Speaker 3: teams that go up 2-0. So history is on Forrester's side,
- 24:48Speaker 3: but I tell you, the momentum, man.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 24:51Speaker 1: But back in Cleveland, which seems to be an advantage
- 24:53Speaker 1: for your White Sox, they haven't lost this postseason.
- 24:56Speaker 2: On the road.
- 24:57Speaker 1: So we're cheering for you on Saturday. I won't watch
- 24:59Speaker 1: it for sure, but I'll be cheering for you right
- 25:01Speaker 1: here where it counts.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Let me know how it turns out.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Yeah, cheering for you. All right, when we come back,
- 25:05Speaker 1: we jump into college football, including the big one here
- 25:09Speaker 1: at Innisfree, just down the street at Brian Denny Stadium,

- 26:34Speaker 2: CrockettCoffee.com. CrockettCoffee.com. I'm not kidding, man. That's three good games tonight,
- 26:40Speaker 2: isn't it, LT? It really is.
- 26:42Speaker 3: I mean, it starts with, you know, we anointed Louisville
- 26:45Speaker 3: the second-best team in the ACC just three weeks ago.
- 26:47Speaker 3: We were like, I think we all agree this team
- 26:50Speaker 3: can play with Miami.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Yes.
- 26:52Speaker 3: I mean, Keen Holtz looked that good. He's a little
- 26:54Speaker 3: nicked up right now. But this Louisville defense, 125th overall
- 26:56Speaker 3: in total defense overall. They've been bad, but you look
- 27:00Speaker 3: at these losses, one possession loss after one possession loss.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Now they're hosting a Florida State team that has not
- 27:07Speaker 3: won a road game since 2023. We talked about this,
- 27:10Speaker 3: but Ashton Daniels coming off an electric performance where the
- 27:13Speaker 3: defense for Florida State was dominant. They gave up 206
- 27:16Speaker 3: total yards. They gave up 50 on the ground to
- 27:19Speaker 3: a Virginia team that was running at will early this season.
- 27:22Speaker 3: They had 10 sacks. Ashton Daniels, five total touchdowns. Florida
- 27:26Speaker 3: State's coming in on a roll right now. I heard
- 27:28Speaker 3: their play-by-play guy this morning. You probably heard the same thing, Dunaway.
- 27:31Speaker 3: I don't know if you heard him this morning on
- 27:33Speaker 3: Roy and Danny.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Firstly, I turned it off because.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Roy was having connection problems, and that gives me such
- 27:41Speaker 1: high anxiety.
- 27:42Speaker 2: I turned it off. I do hate the fact that
- 27:44Speaker 2: a lot of these. Roy was digitizing. He was.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 27:48Speaker 3: A lot of these games or a lot of these shows,
- 27:51Speaker 3: you know, you got Roy in Salt Lake City, and
- 27:53Speaker 3: where's Danny?
- 27:54Speaker 2: I think just at his home studio. Yeah. He's in
- 27:57Speaker 2: New York midweek.
- 27:58Speaker 3: Yeah, but they're always, you know, split staff, and it's
- 28:00Speaker 3: just so difficult to do these shows because, I mean,
- 28:02Speaker 3: we're reading off each other and looking at each other
- 28:04Speaker 3: in the eyes and that kind of stuff.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Yeah, but add to it the connection problems when it's like,
- 28:07Speaker 1: I tell you, Jordan, And Keith, oh, God, I can't
- 28:11Speaker 1: do it.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I cannot do it. But Florida State fans are like
- 28:14Speaker 2: excited now. It's so weird.
- 28:16Speaker 3: You know, you go back and, you know, before the
- 28:18Speaker 3: season started, there was no chance that he was going
- 28:20Speaker 3: to be able to survive. And they lose a tight
- 28:22Speaker 3: game to Louisville. And then they play Alabama as well
- 28:24Speaker 3: as anybody's played Alabama. And now they think they've got
- 28:27Speaker 3: a fighting shot to make a little run in the ACC.
- 28:30Speaker 3: And we'll see if they're able to get the road
- 28:31Speaker 3: win tonight. And this would be a bad loss for
- 28:34Speaker 3: Jeff Brown based on what the expectation for this Louisville
- 28:36Speaker 3: team was.
- 28:37Speaker 1: And he's lost two that he shouldn't have lost. Well,
- 28:39Speaker 1: but I mean, Jeff Brum does his best work against
- 28:42Speaker 1: the better teams he plays.
- 28:43Speaker 2: I don't know what this is.
- 28:44Speaker 1: I mean, they're favored, but it's like when he plays SMU,
- 28:49Speaker 1: who's nationally ranked, he wins those games. And it's when
- 28:51Speaker 1: he plays a banged up NC State team or Wake,
- 28:54Speaker 1: he loses those games. I don't know if Florida State
- 28:56Speaker 1: falls on that spectrum. Like they're better than I thought
- 28:59Speaker 1: they were going to be this year. To the point
- 29:00Speaker 1: that they were talking in the chat yesterday, somebody was
- 29:02Speaker 1: talking about the word in Tallahassee is now that Norvell
- 29:07Speaker 1: is to the point where they're like, OK, instead of
- 29:10Speaker 1: buying him out, let's put that money into NIL and
- 29:12Speaker 1: see if this guy can actually win here.
- 29:13Speaker 2: That's right. Which I guess that's the new world we
- 29:16Speaker 2: live in.
- 29:17Speaker 1: And it's going to be a frustrating world for fans
- 29:19Speaker 1: because I think all those fans had sailed the ship
- 29:22Speaker 1: on Norvell. And if you keep him, it's going to
- 29:24Speaker 1: be a little deflating.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Look, I hate guys losing their job. The golden
- 29:28Speaker 2: parachute that he will get.
- 29:29Speaker 3: It's more about the assistance and all of that, but
- 29:31Speaker 3: we've got a big enough sample size. He's had two
- 29:33Speaker 3: good years. He's had three really bad years. I still
- 29:37Speaker 3: think he's got a lot of losses coming up.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Um, But everybody's going to start pointing to Fickle.
- 29:41Speaker 1: If Fickle can get this, continue this at Wisconsin, everybody's
- 29:45Speaker 1: going to say, see, instead of just pulling the trigger
- 29:47Speaker 1: and firing a guy, give him the resources and see
- 29:50Speaker 1: if he can win before you fire him. Now, you
- 29:52Speaker 1: ought to give them the resources on the front end.
- 29:53Speaker 1: It shouldn't take sucking for you to have to get
- 29:55Speaker 1: the resources.
- 29:56Speaker 2: But how did Florida State not have the resources before?
- 29:58Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Like, Florida State, when everybody was cheating, Florida State was
- 30:01Speaker 3: the best in the business.
- 30:02Speaker 2: That's right.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Now you can legally pay. So, like, you're paying above board.
- 30:06Speaker 3: How are they not having at least success in the ACC?
- 30:09Speaker 3: When's the last time Duke lost an ACC game?
- 30:13Speaker 2: That's a great point. Not this year.
- 30:15Speaker 1: They've won nine straight right now or going for their
- 30:17Speaker 1: ninth straight. I'll tell you this about tonight's game, though.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Keen Holtz has been on the injury report. He's going
- 30:21Speaker 1: to play. He's down to probable now. But this Florida
- 30:25Speaker 1: State defense has cranked it up. They had 10 sacks
- 30:28Speaker 1: last week. I mean, that's getting after the quarterback. And,
- 30:31Speaker 1: you know, there was a time I thought Virginia was
- 30:33Speaker 1: the second best team.
- 30:34Speaker 2: And the ACC. The ACC has become an enigma. It's Wake.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Wake's your second best game. I mean, I think Wake's
- 30:39Speaker 2: going to lose tomorrow to NC State.
- 30:41Speaker 3: I'm not going to play because it's an 11 o'clock game,
- 30:43Speaker 3: but I think they're going to go into Raleigh. I
- 30:45Speaker 3: think everybody's saying what you're saying right now. I don't disagree.
- 30:48Speaker 3: I mean, Jake Dickert, I got to tell you guys
- 30:50Speaker 3: this because I came across. This is pretty amazing.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Oh, damn. I don't have it right here. I thought
- 30:56Speaker 2: I did.
- 30:56Speaker 3: I think Wake has won like 10 of their last
- 30:59Speaker 3: 13 or something.
- 31:00Speaker 2: That's crazy, and nobody pays attention to it.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Yeah, that sounds right, 10 of 13. And that guy
- 31:03Speaker 1: can flat coach. He will not be awake long.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Well, I've got a note here. I didn't think Joe
- 31:08Speaker 2: Lopez could play this slow. Me neither.
- 31:10Speaker 3: And that is an indictment on Jake Dickert. Well, that
- 31:14Speaker 3: and Jake Dickert, what he can do with a quarterback.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Jake Dickert, just close your eyes.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Jobs that where you may not be getting enough out
- 31:23Speaker 1: of your head coach. if South Carolina came open, could
- 31:27Speaker 1: you close your eyes and see Jake Dickard there?
- 31:31Speaker 2: Yes, I could. I mean, Dickard's got to take that job, right? Yeah.
- 31:34Speaker 3: You know, it's funny because I look at guys like
- 31:36Speaker 3: Dave Braun. I don't think Dave Braun would leave Northwestern now.
- 31:39Speaker 3: We know Cignetti's not going to leave Indiana. Wake is
- 31:41Speaker 3: still one of those jobs you leave.
- 31:43Speaker 2: You've got to leave. You've got to leave. What about
- 31:45Speaker 2: in the ACC, North Carolina?
- 31:47Speaker 1: If this Belichick thing goes deep-rooted and he doesn't want
- 31:49Speaker 1: to coach anymore or they don't want him, would you
- 31:51Speaker 1: leave Wake for Carolina?
- 31:52Speaker 5: I could.
- 31:53Speaker 3: You know, Dickert seems like one of those guys where
- 31:55Speaker 3: he wouldn't want to slap him in the face. That
- 31:57Speaker 3: seems like a slap in the face going across the street.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Yeah. But we all agree he can coach. No doubt.
- 32:02Speaker 1: I'll go to Blue Bloods then. If Michigan thinks Jake
- 32:06Speaker 1: Dickert is the future, what about Michigan?
- 32:08Speaker 2: Oh, you do. He'd take it in a heartbeat. Now,
- 32:10Speaker 2: would Michigan do that? I don't know. But you're the
- 32:14Speaker 2: Michigan AD. I think he's proven enough.
- 32:15Speaker 3: I do want to see the rest of this year. Now,
- 32:17Speaker 3: he did a hell of a job quietly last year.
- 32:20Speaker 3: What he was doing at Wazoo was next level. That
- 32:22Speaker 3: offense was great. So I think he's shown enough, especially
- 32:25Speaker 3: if they can kind of close the deal, win eight
- 32:27Speaker 3: or nine games this year.
- 32:28Speaker 2: I wouldn't have a problem with that. If Lincoln Riley
- 32:30Speaker 2: loses at Penn State, continues to swirl.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Jake Dicker to USC, too big of a job? I mean, maybe,
- 32:37Speaker 3: but we can only see. I love the offense. He's
- 32:38Speaker 3: got some West Coast ties, obviously. He came from Washington State,
- 32:42Speaker 3: for those that don't know. Came from Washington State. The
- 32:44Speaker 3: only reason he left Washington State for Wake was he–
- 32:48Speaker 3: Like everybody else there.
- 32:48Speaker 2: He had no clue about Washington State's future.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Well, you think about the only reason he got the
- 32:52Speaker 3: Washington State job is because Rolovich wouldn't get the vaccine.
- 32:55Speaker 2: He wouldn't get the vaccine, and Jake Dickert got the job.
- 32:58Speaker 2: He was like, I'll take the vaccine if you're going
- 33:00Speaker 2: to give me the head job. I couldn't tell you
- 33:02Speaker 2: where Rolovich is. I'll tell you. Rolovich is the quarterback
- 33:05Speaker 2: coach at, I'll think of it in a second. So
- 33:09Speaker 2: he's an assistant coach in college. I think he's at Cal.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I was going to say either Cal or Stanford. I
- 33:13Speaker 1: thought he was in the Bay Area. Either way, it
- 33:15Speaker 1: ain't going well for him.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Both of those suck. Cal's got a pretty good quarterback. Well,
- 33:19Speaker 2: they've got a good quarterback.
- 33:20Speaker 1: But if you're the quarterback coach, I'm not worried about
- 33:23Speaker 1: the rest of you.
- 33:25Speaker 2: That is very selfish.
- 33:26Speaker 1: My favorite part is Lance has got that one nailed.
- 33:28Speaker 1: So every time we go Cal, he's going to say
- 33:29Speaker 1: the name. Set him up right there to say the quarterback.
- 33:31Speaker 2: It's Sagapula Telly. That's right. So that's Jake Dickard.
- 33:35Speaker 1: And not playing tonight, but we got to him on
- 33:38Speaker 1: the Florida State-Louisville side. Iowa and Washington tonight. I'm not
- 33:42Speaker 1: a gambler. Well documented on the show. With injured Iowa,
- 33:46Speaker 1: I did take the over in the Righteous Gemstones, but
- 33:50Speaker 1: this is Washington all day long. I don't try to
- 33:52Speaker 1: read your mind, but is this Washington all day long tonight?
- 33:54Speaker 1: Hank Brown is out. Is that why you're saying that?
- 33:56Speaker 1: Because Hank Brown's out for Iowa? Hank Brown's out for Iowa,
- 33:59Speaker 1: and they struggle offensively.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Yeah, Heglinski came in and actually played better than Hank Brown.
- 34:03Speaker 3: I think they've got bad quarterback on bad quarterback right now.
- 34:07Speaker 3: DeMond Williams is playing okay right now for Jetfish. They've
- 34:10Speaker 3: lost back-to-back, but tough losses. You know, they lost by
- 34:13Speaker 3: three to Minnesota, by four to USC in the Coliseum.
- 34:17Speaker 3: You're probably right here. LanceIsLock.com to get official plays. I
- 34:22Speaker 3: don't know if you can play on that game or not.
- 34:23Speaker 3: I'm giving it out as a free play.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Washington. I do like Washington a lot. 3-0 this week.
- 34:29Speaker 2: In college football, by the way.
- 34:30Speaker 1: When you're going against a backup Iowa quarterback, you feel
- 34:33Speaker 1: pretty good about it, I would imagine, right?
- 34:34Speaker 2: I mean, I don't want the staff to tell me.
- 34:36Speaker 2: I will tell you, man.
- 34:37Speaker 3: You know, Ferentz is one of those guys, it's hard
- 34:39Speaker 3: to dislike him because long as he's in your coach,
- 34:43Speaker 3: he does things the right way.
- 34:44Speaker 2: The donation to the children's hospital, all those things, yeah.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Dead fish watching him. He is just one of those coaches.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Easy to dislike.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Yeah, he is impossible to like. And then there is
- 34:52Speaker 1: Iowa State BYU. And should BYU be on upset alert tonight?
- 34:58Speaker 1: with Aiden Flora and his multitude of ways coming in
- 35:01Speaker 1: to score touchdowns. He can run them, he can throw them,
- 35:04Speaker 1: and he's not the quarterback.
- 35:05Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a former quarterback that they list him as
- 35:07Speaker 3: a halfback, but he's averaging over eight yards a carry.
- 35:10Speaker 3: He was, you know, back-to-back walk-ons at Iowa State, had
- 35:15Speaker 3: 15 total carries in his first two years under Matt Campbell. Campbell,
- 35:19Speaker 3: Jimmy Rogers comes in from Washington State, brings 83 new
- 35:22Speaker 3: players with him, gives this kid an opportunity, and he
- 35:25Speaker 3: has been tearing it up. He destroyed West Virginia on
- 35:29Speaker 3: the ground. I think Iowa State playing with a lot
- 35:31Speaker 3: of confidence. Their loss is 14 to Utah. They lost
- 35:35Speaker 3: to three in the Cy Hawk Trophy to Iowa. They're
- 35:38Speaker 3: playing with a ton of confidence right now, and no L.J.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Martin.
- 35:40Speaker 3: That offense is broken for BYU. I think Iowa State,
- 35:43Speaker 3: I stayed away from it. I think Iowa State has
- 35:45Speaker 3: got an opportunity as a live dog, but at the
- 35:48Speaker 3: same time, I could see BYU's defense just come show out.
- 35:51Speaker 1: But the look-ahead factor is what worries you the most
- 35:53Speaker 1: about BYU, right? The fact that they've got Notre Dame
- 35:55Speaker 1: at their place in primetime next week. And the fact
- 35:58Speaker 1: that you don't have Martin and you don't have Glasker,
- 36:00Speaker 1: their big linebacker on defense.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Well, you know, L.J. Martin's going to be out for
- 36:03Speaker 2: the Notre Dame game.
- 36:04Speaker 3: I don't know how they're going to manufacture any offense
- 36:07Speaker 3: against Notre Dame. I thought just from afar a couple
- 36:10Speaker 3: of weeks ago BYU would be able to win that game,
- 36:12Speaker 3: but I don't know how they do it now.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Alabama hosting Georgia is where we're at in Tuscaloosa, and
- 36:18Speaker 1: it's free, our location.
- 36:19Speaker 2: And we're here all day long. The doors will open
- 36:21Speaker 2: at 11. We're here till 1.
- 36:23Speaker 1: And just will be a lot of fun all day
- 36:26Speaker 1: before the storm blows in tonight and then rains and
- 36:29Speaker 1: hopefully gets out of here early afternoon tomorrow. But the
- 36:31Speaker 1: game is scheduled to start on time, Georgia and Alabama,
- 36:35Speaker 1: 630 tomorrow night. Game day will be inside Coleman Coliseum, though,
- 36:39Speaker 1: and you can start lining up for that right before
- 36:41Speaker 1: sunrise tomorrow morning. It'll be interesting to see how that
- 36:46Speaker 1: game plays out. Tyler, if you can give me cut
- 36:49Speaker 1: number four. This is Kane Womack, Alabama's defensive coordinator and
- 36:55Speaker 1: I think there's something to be said here because Gunnar
- 36:57Speaker 1: Stockton is such a a wonderful runner of the football
- 37:01Speaker 1: from the quarterback position Georgia can run that run it
- 37:04Speaker 1: as a team traditional run game but they are also
- 37:07Speaker 1: able to burn you with passes to an elite tight
- 37:09Speaker 1: end room and some up-and-coming wide receivers here's Kane Womack
- 37:12Speaker 1: on what he tries to tell his defense when they
- 37:15Speaker 1: have the prime time stage like they do this week
- 37:17Speaker 1: against Georgia.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Big stage Georgia at What's kind of the expectation?
- 37:23Speaker 4: How did you see them respond last week?
- 37:24Speaker 2: And what's kind of the message to them heading into
- 37:26Speaker 2: this one? Nothing.
- 37:28Speaker 4: Keep playing football. Keep doing your job. I mean, this
- 37:30Speaker 4: is they came here to play in the SEC. They
- 37:34Speaker 4: came here to play in big moments. And I think
- 37:36Speaker 4: the guys that I've seen that are successful here are
- 37:39Speaker 4: the ones that have the inner confidence to know that
- 37:41Speaker 4: they're going to be able to execute in the biggest moments.
- 37:44Speaker 4: And so great players always step up in the biggest moments.
- 37:47Speaker 4: And those guys, I think, are starting. We're starting to
- 37:49Speaker 4: see that they're starting to do that. But, you know,
- 37:52Speaker 4: you don't make it more than what it is. I
- 37:54Speaker 4: think you, you know, this is another week in the SEC.
- 37:59Speaker 4: I know that, you know, there's always narratives when college
- 38:02Speaker 4: game day and all that stuff comes.
- 38:04Speaker 2: And that's great. It's awesome.
- 38:05Speaker 4: That's what this place, you know, we should be doing.
- 38:08Speaker 4: But ultimately, right, this is us continuing to elevate our
- 38:13Speaker 4: game and just get better in the little details for
- 38:17Speaker 4: things that we need to get better in.
- 38:20Speaker 2: In Womack there. And I would say this.
- 38:22Speaker 1: I saw Brooks Austin, the film guy who's on our
- 38:24Speaker 1: show earlier this week, breaking down Alabama's defense. And he
- 38:27Speaker 1: says they're one of the better defenses. He's seen it
- 38:31Speaker 1: lying to you because they're not in the straight man-to-man
- 38:34Speaker 1: all the time.
- 38:35Speaker 2: And he's like, you can't lie in man-to-man. Man-to-man is man-to-man.
- 38:38Speaker 2: But in the zones... The way he does the zones
- 38:42Speaker 2: is very confusing for the quarterback.
- 38:43Speaker 3: Well, you saw it on that second possession last weekend
- 38:46Speaker 3: against Mississippi State and how they snuck in in that
- 38:49Speaker 3: pick six. I mean, they've got four defensive touchdowns. And
- 38:52Speaker 3: as many big plays as this Alabama defense has given up,
- 38:55Speaker 3: they're making big plays on the other side. Look, they're
- 38:57Speaker 3: only giving up 78 yards per game on the ground,
- 39:00Speaker 3: which is 10th nationally. But they're plus seven in turnover.
- 39:03Speaker 3: So they're forcing a lot of turnovers. And when you've
- 39:05Speaker 3: got that high-powered offense, you're forcing turnovers, you're scoring some defensively.
- 39:09Speaker 2: It's a big deal.
- 39:10Speaker 1: You know, there were a lot of big plays in
- 39:11Speaker 1: that game in Athens last year where Alabama went in
- 39:14Speaker 1: and upset Georgia. But there were none bigger than that L.T.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Overton play down on the goal line where Kirby kind
- 39:22Speaker 1: of got a little bit greedy, went for.
- 39:24Speaker 2: It on fourth down. They run the cash kid. Yeah.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Cash Warren, a pitch to Warren. I know That was
- 39:28Speaker 3: almost as bad as Auburn's fourth down.
- 39:30Speaker 2: It really was.
- 39:31Speaker 1: But he's got the corner, except for the fact that
- 39:33Speaker 1: LT Overton makes a tremendous individual play and trips him.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Yeah, stayed at home, didn't get fooled.
- 39:38Speaker 1: That's right, makes a tremendous play in trips. I mean,
- 39:40Speaker 1: it's plays like that that will determine this game on
- 39:42Speaker 1: either side, just a.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Small play here or there.
- 39:44Speaker 3: And I do wonder, you know, with Bowens not playing
- 39:47Speaker 3: and Nate Frazier, the ribs really banged up, like, you know,
- 39:50Speaker 3: they're kind of short-staffed right now at running back.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Of Bo Walker in the shoot for the Georgia run game.
- 39:58Speaker 1: So we'll see what they have in this game. Georgia,
- 40:01Speaker 1: by the way, off to their best scoring offense since 1910.
- 40:05Speaker 1: for the Georgia Bulldogs. So they're doing a wonderful job
- 40:08Speaker 1: scoring points. In the chat room when we come back,
- 40:11Speaker 1: I want to know how the Georgia and Alabama fans
- 40:13Speaker 1: are feeling. We'll get to some of those in the chat.
- 40:15Speaker 1: So if you're a Tide or Dog fan, let us
- 40:18Speaker 1: know how you feel about this sort of a test
- 40:21Speaker 1: where you are as we approach the halfway point of
- 40:23Speaker 1: the season. Georgia and Alabama, 6.30 tomorrow night. Some other
- 40:26Speaker 1: games around the country. Todd Furman at the top of
- 40:29Speaker 1: the hour. We're on the Sporting State platform brought to
- 40:32Speaker 1: you by Hard Rock Bet. This is the next round.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Back with you on the next round from the historic
- 40:37Speaker 1: NS3 Big Game Weekend. Speaking of Big Game Weekends, one
- 40:41Speaker 1: of our listeners, viewers, Kyle writes in, says, always love
- 40:46Speaker 1: your show.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Always different, though. Big Game Weekends. Love it.
- 40:50Speaker 1: I know this has been talked about, but to have
- 40:52Speaker 1: to go to Tennessee and play in Knoxville the week
- 40:56Speaker 1: after playing Georgia is tough. I hope we can get
- 40:58Speaker 1: at least one of them. That's one fan of a fan.
- 41:00Speaker 1: What do you think the Tennessee follow up? next week
- 41:03Speaker 1: after playing Georgia. Tennessee's got to play Alabama after playing
- 41:06Speaker 1: at Arkansas.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Yeah. Are those not alike? No, Alabama's going to be
- 41:10Speaker 2: beat to hell and back.
- 41:11Speaker 3: But we've talked about the gauntlet that is the SEC
- 41:14Speaker 3: week in and week out. And, you know, to me,
- 41:16Speaker 3: I do think Tennessee's got a good defense. If Deshaun
- 41:19Speaker 3: Bishop is on, then Tennessee's got a fighting shot. But
- 41:22Speaker 3: this doesn't look like the challenge it was at the
- 41:24Speaker 3: beginning of the year to me.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:26Speaker 1: I think you've only felt better about that trip to
- 41:28Speaker 1: Knoxville after watching Tennessee's offense. And again, They're starting a
- 41:32Speaker 1: quarterback that did not start the season for them. They've
- 41:34Speaker 1: gone to their backup against Arkansas this week. We'll see
- 41:36Speaker 1: how that looks. If you're a Bama fan, I think
- 41:39Speaker 1: you probably want them to come out of that game
- 41:41Speaker 1: just as murky at quarterback as they go into the game.
- 41:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and what if McIntyre, again, they're going to beat Arkansas.
- 41:45Speaker 3: It doesn't matter how bad he plays. Arkansas is just
- 41:48Speaker 3: that team right now. But if he goes out and
- 41:50Speaker 3: throws a pick six and it's shaky, like what are
- 41:53Speaker 3: you doing at that point if you're hype?
- 41:54Speaker 1: I think your worst case for hypo is if he's
- 41:56Speaker 1: just mid. Like if he's really, really good, you know,
- 41:59Speaker 1: all right, I'm going to start him against Bama. If
- 42:00Speaker 1: he's really, really bad, you're like, all right, Faison, you
- 42:02Speaker 1: got to see your backup. We're better with you.
- 42:06Speaker 2: But if he's in the middle, what do you do? Yeah,
- 42:08Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 42:08Speaker 3: I think it's to the point right now, and I'm
- 42:10Speaker 3: just guessing, based on a normal 18- or 19-year-old, Faison
- 42:14Speaker 3: is super pissed right now. Like, how did I come here?
- 42:17Speaker 3: I committed to you guys. You said it was my job. Well,
- 42:20Speaker 3: show me how pissed you are if I put you
- 42:21Speaker 3: back in the game. That's what you got to do.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I mean, look, he does have to perform. There's no doubt.
- 42:24Speaker 2: You got to be able to execute. But these kids now, man,
- 42:26Speaker 2: you bench them.
- 42:27Speaker 3: They're out.
- 42:28Speaker 1: One of my favorite parts of the doc last night,
- 42:31Speaker 1: and he never came across as this guy, but you
- 42:33Speaker 1: never see him behind the scenes. Jalen Hurd's so polished
- 42:36Speaker 1: when he's in front of a camera, right? They're interviewing him,
- 42:39Speaker 1: and he's like, I get to Alabama, you know, and
- 42:42Speaker 1: I show up, and they got all these big recruits
- 42:44Speaker 1: that are in the quarterback room, and he looks back,
- 42:45Speaker 1: and he's like, and he says it. They don't beep
- 42:48Speaker 1: out anything. It's adult language. He says, I'm going to
- 42:51Speaker 1: run all these MFers off. But he says MFers. He
- 42:54Speaker 1: says it out loud. And he said it really confident.
- 42:57Speaker 1: He ended up doing it, of course. So he ended
- 42:59Speaker 1: up being over Blake Barnett and all that.
- 43:01Speaker 3: I did hear a quick bite that they played this
- 43:05Speaker 3: morning on one of the shows that I was listening
- 43:07Speaker 3: to on the way down. And I was wondering, because
- 43:09Speaker 3: you said it was more Michigan State in that first episode.
- 43:13Speaker 3: but it was the Brian Dable, Nick Saban conversation at
- 43:15Speaker 3: halftime of the national championship game.
- 43:17Speaker 2: I believe that's episode two or three. It all dropped.
- 43:20Speaker 1: No, it's the, it's the one everyone's talking about because
- 43:23Speaker 1: it is the camera inside the locker room at the
- 43:26Speaker 1: halftime of the national championship game, Georgia, Alabama weekend. And
- 43:30Speaker 1: Saban is telling the story. You don't see this part.
- 43:32Speaker 1: He's like, you know, I tell him we're going to,
- 43:34Speaker 1: we're going to switch. We're going to go to Tua. And,
- 43:37Speaker 1: all the coaches apparently like, are you, no, you're joking, right?
- 43:40Speaker 1: And he's like, no, we're doing it. And the table goes,
- 43:43Speaker 1: who's going, who's going to tell it? And Saban says,
- 43:46Speaker 1: I guess you want me to, I would have been like, who,
- 43:49Speaker 1: and you're the offensive coordinator.
- 43:51Speaker 2: You tell him, but Saban, yeah, I was like, I'll
- 43:52Speaker 2: tell him. And, but it's got the sound of him
- 43:54Speaker 2: telling it does. You actually see it.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Uh, but you know, in very Jim Dunaway, I mean,
- 44:00Speaker 1: I think we all would do it in that tough situation. Uh,
- 44:03Speaker 1: he comes out and he's like, we're going to go
- 44:04Speaker 1: with you in the second half. Um, stay ready, we'll
- 44:08Speaker 1: probably play two. It's Jay Lockwood, we'll probably play two.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Or he slides it by. That was a tough first half. Hey,
- 44:12Speaker 1: by the way, two is going to be playing. Technically,
- 44:15Speaker 1: they did play two because you remember Hertz had to
- 44:18Speaker 1: come in What was it? He had to come in
- 44:20Speaker 1: to center the ball for that, what they thought was
- 44:21Speaker 1: the game.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Oh, that's right. That's right.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Because Tua had never taken, Tua couldn't take snaps under center,
- 44:26Speaker 1: could he? Or they didn't trust him to? So Hurtz
- 44:29Speaker 1: practiced it or there was a better runner. Yeah, there
- 44:31Speaker 1: was some reason Hurtz had to come back in to
- 44:33Speaker 1: center the ball for that field goal. And I can't
- 44:35Speaker 1: remember exactly the reason, but I think it was the
- 44:37Speaker 1: under center snaps. I think they were afraid to put
- 44:39Speaker 1: Tua in that situation because he hadn't done it in
- 44:41Speaker 1: the game.
- 44:42Speaker 2: I'm a little surprised we don't talk about that more.
- 44:43Speaker 2: I mean, that is... That is the ultimate flex.
- 44:46Speaker 3: The national championship, you go to a quarterback that hadn't
- 44:50Speaker 3: started the game.
- 44:50Speaker 2: I know. I didn't know all the other coaches were like, really?
- 44:54Speaker 2: Wait a minute. Really? We're saying the same thing, weren't
- 44:56Speaker 2: you guys?
- 44:57Speaker 1: But, I mean, if you go back to that season,
- 44:59Speaker 1: Saban was overly loyal to Jalen Hurts. That had already
- 45:02Speaker 1: shown its head. That situation had shown its head in Starkville, Mississippi.
- 45:06Speaker 1: And I know it's a late-in-the-season change if you do that.
- 45:09Speaker 1: But then it showed its head again at.
- 45:11Speaker 3: The Iron Bowl when Alabama was up at half or
- 45:13Speaker 3: went up right after the half and then got drubbed
- 45:15Speaker 3: because he couldn't move the football so it kept showing
- 45:18Speaker 3: its head that you had a quarterback issue last thing
- 45:21Speaker 3: on the documentary before you tell us about clay travis
- 45:23Speaker 3: law was uh they went into heavy on him exiting
- 45:26Speaker 3: the dolphins coming to alabama it's one of those docs
- 45:28Speaker 3: where it's like it's 2007 or but then it goes
- 45:32Speaker 3: back timelines right back to him back and forth and
- 45:36Speaker 3: it shows all of his news conference leading up to
- 45:38Speaker 3: the one we all heard but it was like five
- 45:40Speaker 3: different news conferences that he was just getting peppered with
- 45:43Speaker 3: Alabama questions. And they still had those games. And he's like, finally,
- 45:46Speaker 3: you know, I said what I said. And then it
- 45:50Speaker 3: had Jimmy Sexton, who comes off really good at this.
- 45:53Speaker 3: And Jimmy Sexton goes, he called me instantly. He walked
- 45:57Speaker 3: out of the news conference, called me and said, hey,
- 45:59Speaker 3: I just screwed up. And I guess I can't take
- 46:01Speaker 3: the Alabama job now. And Sexton said, I banged on
- 46:04Speaker 3: my table and I said, no, Nick, I'm not going
- 46:06Speaker 3: to let you because you made one slip of the
- 46:08Speaker 3: tongue in a news conference, fence yourself in from not
- 46:12Speaker 3: taking a job that's better for you. I'm not going
- 46:14Speaker 3: to let you do that. And I'm sure Jimmy was like,
- 46:16Speaker 3: I do it all the time.
- 46:18Speaker 2: I'm a prudent. Not that big of a deal.
- 46:21Speaker 3: Our friends at Clay Travis Law, they want to remind you,
- 46:23Speaker 3: accidents do not wait for a good time.
- 46:25Speaker 2: One bad moment, a wreck, a fall.
- 46:26Speaker 3: A doctor who wasn't paying attention, suddenly you're fighting an
- 46:29Speaker 3: insurance company that does this every single day. That's why
- 46:31Speaker 3: our friend Clay started Clay Travis Law, built a firm
- 46:34Speaker 3: around one idea. People deserve someone willing to pay attention,
- 46:37Speaker 3: ask those hard questions, and push back when things don't
- 46:40Speaker 3: add up. They lead negotiations with honesty, determination, and southern grit.

- 46:45Speaker 2: Honesty.
- 46:46Speaker 3: They will not sugarcoat the case. You're going to hear
- 46:48Speaker 3: what it's actually worth, not what you want to hear.

- 46:56Speaker 2: Call 877-222-4444. That is ClayTravisLaw.com. No case too big or
- 47:02Speaker 2: too small. There's some confidence among Alabama fans in the
- 47:06Speaker 2: chat as this week has gone. A lot of confidence
- 47:10Speaker 2: in Alabama's fan base. Don't you think? Well, yeah. I mean,
- 47:13Speaker 2: this did go from, and I understand it.
- 47:16Speaker 3: I mean, when Alabama looks this explosive on offense, when
- 47:19Speaker 3: you're able to take that offense on the road and
- 47:21Speaker 3: score the points the way they looked in the second
- 47:22Speaker 3: half against Kentucky, the way they looked last week in Starkville,
- 47:25Speaker 3: I understand the confidence. But it is amazing because a
- 47:28Speaker 3: couple of weeks ago, talking to Alabama fans, damn, Georgia's
- 47:30Speaker 3: a beast.
- 47:31Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 47:32Speaker 3: We're probably going to drop Georgia. But as long as
- 47:34Speaker 3: we only drop one more, go 10-2, we get in
- 47:36Speaker 3: the college football playoff. And now Alabama fans, almost all
- 47:39Speaker 3: of them, I've maybe talked to one or two that
- 47:41Speaker 3: are like, I don't know about this.
- 47:42Speaker 2: But everybody else is like, we're going to win this game.
- 47:44Speaker 1: When is the last time Alabama was favored over Georgia?
- 47:47Speaker 1: It's been a minute, hasn't it?
- 47:49Speaker 2: Obviously not in the SEC championship, not in the game
- 47:51Speaker 2: in Athens.
- 47:52Speaker 1: I don't think the game in DeBoer's first year, Georgia
- 47:54Speaker 1: was favored in that game, were they not?
- 47:56Speaker 2: And then prior to that.
- 47:58Speaker 3: I think national championship in Indianapolis, I think.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Alabama was favored. Whoa, did they go off as a favorite?
- 48:04Speaker 2: I think they did. Okay.
- 48:05Speaker 3: Because remember, they went from they had no shot in
- 48:08Speaker 3: that SEC championship game to dominating Georgia.
- 48:11Speaker 2: And I think that they were a short favorite in
- 48:13Speaker 2: that game.
- 48:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:14Speaker 2: But then they lost. Was it Jamison Williams? Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:17Speaker 1: The only concern about the confidence, and I do feel
- 48:20Speaker 1: like Alabama has a target on its back this week
- 48:22Speaker 1: after all the love Keelan Russell is getting nationally. All
- 48:26Speaker 1: the conversations you have about this Alabama team looks for real.
- 48:29Speaker 1: This Alabama team looks like they're a contender. And then
- 48:33Speaker 1: the SEC this year, it has been that yin and
- 48:35Speaker 1: the yang. It's been Ole Miss is up, then they
- 48:37Speaker 1: lose to Florida. Florida's up, then they lose to Missouri.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Is it Mississippi State's up, and then they.
- 48:42Speaker 3: Lose to Alabama? I think that is the so-called September teams.
- 48:45Speaker 3: I think we're going to see it with Missouri. I
- 48:47Speaker 3: think Missouri is good, but I think A & M
- 48:49Speaker 3: will find a way to win. I'm not going to
- 48:51Speaker 3: play that game because it's at 11 o'clock. But I
- 48:53Speaker 3: think these two are elite teams, so I think it
- 48:55Speaker 3: is a little bit different in that regard.
- 48:56Speaker 2: You know who's hurting your business?
- 48:58Speaker 1: The SEC, and he has been doing these flex times,
- 49:00Speaker 1: locking good games into 11 o'clock.
- 49:03Speaker 3: I mean, there's some really good 11 o'clock games, at
- 49:05Speaker 3: least games that I would like to play tomorrow.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Samuel says, tons of talk about Keelan Russell, but I
- 49:11Speaker 1: think this game is where EJ Cruel puts college football
- 49:13Speaker 1: world on notice. I was just looking at this. Alabama
- 49:17Speaker 1: actually sent this out, Alabama football. football sent this out.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Pro football focus, the highest rated freshman running back in America.
- 49:27Speaker 2: Is EJ Cruel. Wow.
- 49:29Speaker 1: So a guy that has struggled really to get on
- 49:31Speaker 1: the field as much as people thought he would for
- 49:33Speaker 1: whatever reason. I mean, we played Ryan Grubb explaining why yesterday.
- 49:37Speaker 1: Part of it is pass protection. Part of it is,
- 49:39Speaker 1: you know, some other things, understanding the offense. Yet this
- 49:42Speaker 1: guy's the highest-rated freshman running back in the entire country,
- 49:45Speaker 1: according to Pro Football Focus.
- 49:46Speaker 3: Well, last year you couldn't get explosive runs with this
- 49:48Speaker 3: Alabama offense. The last explosive run I remember was that
- 49:52Speaker 3: Daniel Hill carry that we kind of laughed about last year,
- 49:55Speaker 3: and I forgot what game that was. But every single
- 49:58Speaker 3: game he's played and he's had an explosive run. We
- 50:00Speaker 3: went through the numbers yesterday, 19, 29, 36. I mean,
- 50:04Speaker 3: this guy is great when he's got the ball in hand,
- 50:06Speaker 3: but it's the other little nuances of the game he's
- 50:08Speaker 3: got to figure out. And once he figures them out,
- 50:10Speaker 3: we talked about it yesterday, he's probably going to be
- 50:12Speaker 3: the next great Alabama running back.
- 50:14Speaker 1: Troy says, prepare for Kirby to take the absolute air
- 50:17Speaker 1: out of the ball. I expect him to try to 15,
- 50:19Speaker 1: 20 play drives. The problem with that is the health
- 50:22Speaker 1: at running back right now. They're banged up at running back,
- 50:25Speaker 1: to which Zach responds, I bet you Frazier is healthy
- 50:28Speaker 1: for this game.
- 50:29Speaker 3: I mean, but ribs, I mean, look. I've had sore ribs.
- 50:32Speaker 3: I've never had like broken ribs. But when you're getting
- 50:35Speaker 3: hit and you know Alabama's going for those ribs.
- 50:37Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 50:38Speaker 1: And those jackets, the flap jackets you wear to protect them,
- 50:42Speaker 1: they only protect them from getting more fractured, more cracked.
- 50:45Speaker 2: They don't ease the pain too much. Absorb it a
- 50:48Speaker 2: little bit, but you're going to feel it. The syrup
- 50:50Speaker 2: helps absorb.
- 50:52Speaker 3: But you do wonder when you get down to the
- 50:56Speaker 3: third and fourth guy, ball security, especially in elements.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:00Speaker 1: We're expecting it to be relatively dry. Again, they've got
- 51:04Speaker 1: the sub air system at Bryant Denny Stadium. That's the
- 51:07Speaker 1: best technology you could ever have in a situation like this.
- 51:10Speaker 1: So I don't think the playing field is going to
- 51:12Speaker 1: be an issue at all, no matter how much it rains.
- 51:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's something to look forward to. One more comment
- 51:16Speaker 2: before we get to Furman on the other side.
- 51:18Speaker 1: Jay Bakes says, I don't think Gunnar Stockton has played
- 51:20Speaker 1: in an environment like he will tomorrow, to which Sam
- 51:23Speaker 1: Robinson says Gunnar Stockton's played in multiple crazy environments.
- 51:26Speaker 2: This will not be a first for him. He has.
- 51:28Speaker 3: The moment will not be too big for Gunnar Sokka.
- 51:30Speaker 3: I can guarantee you that.
- 51:32Speaker 1: To me, it's Alabama's offensive line. We finally find out
- 51:36Speaker 1: if they are good because this front seven is different
- 51:39Speaker 1: than what Alabama's faced so far. So is this Alabama
- 51:42Speaker 1: offensive line? It's almost like a final exam. Are they
- 51:46Speaker 1: who we think they are in this game?
- 51:48Speaker 2: We'll find out. They have passed every week.
- 51:50Speaker 3: Georgia's only given up 57 yards on the ground, which
- 51:53Speaker 3: is third in the FBS. If they pass this again
- 51:55Speaker 3: and they're able to run the football effectively on Georgia,
- 51:58Speaker 3: watch out for Alabama.
- 51:59Speaker 2: Todd Furman standing by in Las Vegas.
- 52:02Speaker 1: We'll bring him in to talk about all the games
- 52:04Speaker 1: around the country and his gut feel on Georgia and
- 52:07Speaker 1: Alabama as well when we come back to Historic.
- 52:10Speaker 2: And it's free.
- 52:11Speaker 1: It's the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet right
- 52:13Speaker 1: here on Sporting States.
