- 0:01Speaker 1: We will get underway.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Okay, all right, coach, coming off a successful opening weekend,
- 0:09Speaker 2: two and oh ten goals combined over the course of
- 0:13Speaker 2: the weekend. Looking turning attention to holy Cross home and
- 0:17Speaker 2: home first road game. Just want to get your thoughts.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it was certainly a great start for us.
- 0:25Speaker 1: We're happy with you know that. I thought that. You know,
- 0:32Speaker 1: we played well in all three zones on the weekend,
- 0:36Speaker 1: and this week is going to, you know, bring a
- 0:40Speaker 1: whole different challenge because you know, we had a lot
- 0:44Speaker 1: of trouble with the holy Cross last year. They gave
- 0:46Speaker 1: us fits. They're very physical team, they're good in goal.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I think they've got, you know, an elite player and
- 0:53Speaker 1: mcclinskey up front, Stockfish and Oliphant on defense is a
- 1:00Speaker 1: very very good player. And Gail's good in that too.
- 1:04Speaker 1: He was very very good in net for them last
- 1:07Speaker 1: year against us. So we're gonna have our hands full,
- 1:10Speaker 1: that's for sure. Awesome.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I will open up for questions as always, you guys,
- 1:16Speaker 2: just raise your hand.
- 1:16Speaker 1: We'll get to you. Randy. You want to start us off.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Uh, you got a colin. Good morning, cav How you
- 1:25Speaker 3: doing today.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I'm great, Randy. You I'm great.
- 1:28Speaker 3: I'm great. I want to ask about the combination of
- 1:34Speaker 3: you know, I kind of made a point of it,
- 1:36Speaker 3: and we all enjoyed watching it. Muldowney and Richard, I
- 1:42Speaker 3: mean they were dropping flying passes to each other, tape
- 1:45Speaker 3: to taping it Like what what do you attribute to
- 1:48Speaker 3: the chemistry they were able to show all weekend and
- 1:51Speaker 3: especially Saturday?
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah, well, Jay, I mean I thought that line was very,
- 1:58Speaker 1: very good with which Combe, Rashard and Muldowney. They they
- 2:03Speaker 1: have a mix of everything. I mean, they can you know,
- 2:06Speaker 1: Muldowney's kind of a burner. He can really fly and skate,
- 2:09Speaker 1: and Rashard is excellent with the puck and making as
- 2:13Speaker 1: you said those Jake knows what he wants to do
- 2:16Speaker 1: with the puck before he gets it, which is a
- 2:17Speaker 1: It's a skill that's really hard to teach. And I
- 2:21Speaker 1: thought Ethan did a nice job at center and he
- 2:24Speaker 1: was distributing pucks and he can also you know, finish
- 2:28Speaker 1: too and shoot it, so he had he had some
- 2:30Speaker 1: good chances as well. So it was great chemistry between
- 2:34Speaker 1: all three and I'd like to see them build on
- 2:36Speaker 1: that this week.
- 2:38Speaker 3: You know, we uh, when we looked at Viking saw
- 2:43Speaker 3: a big body defense block shots. But that stretch pass
- 2:47Speaker 3: that he made to uh, you know, to spring the
- 2:50Speaker 3: breakaway for Shahans. He has some playmaking skill, it looks
- 2:57Speaker 3: like too. Is he shown that ability to hit that
- 2:59Speaker 3: stretch ask, you know, pretty consistently from what you've seen.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he does. And you know, we'll certainly encourage all
- 3:05Speaker 1: our players to be able to make those types of
- 3:09Speaker 1: plays when they're there. I think, you know, his calling
- 3:12Speaker 1: card is going to be his defensive play and penalty killing.
- 3:16Speaker 1: But I hate to pigeonhole any type of player, and
- 3:21Speaker 1: you know, when those plays are there, we expect our
- 3:23Speaker 1: guys to be able to make them. And Vikings certainly
- 3:26Speaker 1: put that one tape to tape to send Chasey in
- 3:30Speaker 1: on the breakaway power play.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Snapped it around all weekend too. What did you like
- 3:37Speaker 3: about your man advantage?
- 3:39Speaker 1: Well, I like the pace they've played with. I like
- 3:42Speaker 1: that we're getting pucks to the net. The only thing
- 3:44Speaker 1: I didn't like was we only had one power play
- 3:46Speaker 1: on Saturday, and that's more I think on us, Like
- 3:51Speaker 1: we got to take more pucks to the net and
- 3:55Speaker 1: put the defensive team on their heels sometimes, you know,
- 4:00Speaker 1: I thought at times we settled for shots where we
- 4:02Speaker 1: could have maybe taken the puck to the net and
- 4:05Speaker 1: forced a confrontation that may draw our penalty in those situations.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Okay, I think that's.
- 4:13Speaker 1: It for me.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Think all them will jump over to you.
- 4:19Speaker 5: Morning, coach, looking at Obviously Jake Percival is one of
- 4:25Speaker 5: the spark plugs over the weekend. But the number that
- 4:28Speaker 5: really jumps out sixteen shots seven to one game, nine
- 4:31Speaker 5: in the other, I mean, that's not sustainable. But is
- 4:35Speaker 5: that sort of the Jake Percival you would hope you
- 4:37Speaker 5: would see coming out of the off season.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I hope it's sustainable. I'd like to see him put
- 4:42Speaker 1: up that many shots every game. But he's been a
- 4:45Speaker 1: good player for a long time, and as I said,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I think it's now just experience, it's maturity, it's feeling
- 4:52Speaker 1: comfortable in the program and then with his role. And
- 4:56Speaker 1: he had a great weekend, and again I thought that
- 5:00Speaker 1: I was very very good. They played in some important,
- 5:06Speaker 1: you know, situations for us throughout the weekend, and we're
- 5:09Speaker 1: going to need them to continue to do it. I
- 5:11Speaker 1: thought Tabor and Hugh Larkin were also very good as well.
- 5:18Speaker 5: Obviously, a year ago the numbers show that the offense
- 5:21Speaker 5: was a bit probably behind where you wanted, so to
- 5:26Speaker 5: do what they did offensively this weekend. Was it just
- 5:28Speaker 5: a collective exhaled from the returners to kind of say, Okay,
- 5:32Speaker 5: last year was last year. We're in this thing and
- 5:34Speaker 5: we can really start from square one.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think, you know, as I said, our
- 5:40Speaker 1: focus has been offense in the preseason, and you know,
- 5:46Speaker 1: I think we have some teams it's a little bit
- 5:48Speaker 1: different team. It's a lot different than last year. So
- 5:52Speaker 1: I don't even really want to compare it to last year.
- 5:54Speaker 1: It's a lot of team. We have fourteen new players.
- 5:57Speaker 1: But the one area where I was very pleased was
- 6:01Speaker 1: the pace we played with and the speed that we
- 6:03Speaker 1: played because I think over the course of sixty minutes,
- 6:06Speaker 1: if we can play at that pace, you can tend
- 6:11Speaker 1: to wear teams down. So that's something that we're certainly
- 6:13Speaker 1: going to continue to make part of our mL going forward.
- 6:21Speaker 5: And with that speed, is there anything that you have
- 6:24Speaker 5: to be extra protective against the other way where Okay, again,
- 6:27Speaker 5: a team is playing a little bit of a different
- 6:29Speaker 5: style for you this year. These guys need to be
- 6:32Speaker 5: more aware of Okay, yeah, that exposes us to X.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Well, it shouldn't because if you skate well, you also
- 6:41Speaker 1: can skate well on the back check, and that just becomes,
- 6:45Speaker 1: you know, a mindset. So if teams that you know
- 6:48Speaker 1: you're gonna when you focus on offense and you're getting
- 6:52Speaker 1: all five guys involved in your offense, there's going to
- 6:54Speaker 1: be times where the other, you know, other team makes
- 6:57Speaker 1: an interception or a rebound goes somewhere where you are
- 7:00Speaker 1: exposed to a partial odd man rush. But the teams
- 7:04Speaker 1: that have speed can nullify those odd man rushes by
- 7:08Speaker 1: great backchecks. So that's that's an area that I'm okay
- 7:12Speaker 1: with being at times a little rambunctious in the offensive end,
- 7:17Speaker 1: as long as we're back checking.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Great. Thank you, sure, Nolton, we'll go over to you.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Appreciate it, coach.
- 7:30Speaker 6: He talks a little bit about the the second and
- 7:32Speaker 6: the third lines. I'm curious about the first and the fourth.
- 7:34Speaker 6: What do you see as there as their strengths and
- 7:38Speaker 6: then the styles that they're that they're playing with.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I don't really number the lines like
- 7:46Speaker 1: right now, I feel pretty confident that we have four
- 7:48Speaker 1: lines that can play in a lot of different situations
- 7:50Speaker 1: and the team that we want to be. I think
- 7:55Speaker 1: you look around at a lot of teams that play
- 7:58Speaker 1: for trophies. They're not just a one line team or
- 8:01Speaker 1: a two line team. And I thought all four lines
- 8:05Speaker 1: gave us something on the weekend. You know, Chandor's line
- 8:09Speaker 1: created a lot of offense. At times, they were trading chances,
- 8:13Speaker 1: which I didn't like. That's something that you know they're
- 8:17Speaker 1: cognizant of, and we know that that's an area that
- 8:20Speaker 1: needs improvement with those guys. But they created a lot
- 8:25Speaker 1: and played with a ton of speed. And I thought
- 8:29Speaker 1: Tattles line was where they excelled was we played them
- 8:33Speaker 1: a lot after goals were scored or we got scored on,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and they gave us a great shift after goals, so
- 8:41Speaker 1: swing shifts. I thought Tattles line was excellent all weekend long.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Gotcha, I mean you mentioned it.
- 8:50Speaker 6: It's a team with a lot of newcomers. You've talked
- 8:52Speaker 6: about some of the ways in which they've gelled so far.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Are there areas where you're.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Kind of pinpointing where you say, Okay, the chemistry is
- 9:00Speaker 6: still a work in progress. I'd like to see them
- 9:02Speaker 6: do this well against Holy Cross before we hit conference play.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a lot of areas where we can get better,
- 9:09Speaker 1: and we're going to have to get better. As I said,
- 9:12Speaker 1: we gave up too many odd man rushes last weekend,
- 9:15Speaker 1: and Holy Cross has some players that are going to
- 9:17Speaker 1: hurt you if you give up those odd man rushers.
- 9:20Speaker 1: As I said, mcclinskey and Stockfish and to boor like,
- 9:23Speaker 1: they have some really good players up front that and
- 9:26Speaker 1: their defense will join in the play too. So we've
- 9:29Speaker 1: got to clean that area up this weekend. We've got
- 9:32Speaker 1: to take care of the puck, and a lot of
- 9:34Speaker 1: it was either us, you know, turning the puck over
- 9:39Speaker 1: in bad areas, or sometimes our F three at times
- 9:45Speaker 1: was getting caught too low and not you know, assessing
- 9:48Speaker 1: the situation properly. Sometimes you got to punt and you
- 9:52Speaker 1: get to back off, and that's an area that we've
- 9:57Speaker 1: got to have better recognition in those situations.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Gotcha, And then actually I think that was the last
- 10:05Speaker 4: one I had. I'll pass.
- 10:06Speaker 1: We'll hand off to Daniel, all right, great, go ahead
- 10:09Speaker 1: and jump in Dan.
- 10:12Speaker 5: Yeah, do you have an update on Satar coming into
- 10:16Speaker 5: this weekend?
- 10:17Speaker 1: But he got a seven game suspension because of well
- 10:24Speaker 1: play like the league he played in. He played with
- 10:27Speaker 1: some pros, and the NCAA gave him seven game suspension,
- 10:32Speaker 1: so he won't be eligible till November.
- 10:36Speaker 4: So does that include the two Coldgate games? So it's
- 10:38Speaker 4: five games remaining?
- 10:39Speaker 1: Five? Correct?
- 10:42Speaker 4: And then Callum Tungue. Are you expecting to have him
- 10:45Speaker 4: this weekend?
- 10:46Speaker 1: Oh, he's still he'll he'll be out this weekend. Thanks, Bob.
- 10:53Speaker 5: We'll jump over to you.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Hey, Mike, I noticed that the Holy Cross bu game
- 11:00Speaker 6: twenty five penalties.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Is that the physical play that you were referring to?
- 11:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that was. There was a lot of There was
- 11:08Speaker 1: a lot of scrums in that game, and it's certainly
- 11:12Speaker 1: something that I think we want to avoid. You know,
- 11:16Speaker 1: I'm all for playing hard and physical in between the whistles,
- 11:20Speaker 1: but I'm not looking for a team that can win scrums.
- 11:23Speaker 1: That's just you don't get anything for that. The only
- 11:26Speaker 1: thing you get is two minutes in the box sometimes.
- 11:28Speaker 1: So we're going to try to avoid those situations. And
- 11:32Speaker 1: every game is different. I don't know, I wasn't really there.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I don't know what you know why some of those
- 11:41Speaker 1: things happened in that game.
- 11:43Speaker 4: But you know this is you could watch the game
- 11:47Speaker 4: and maybe seem better.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I've watched some of it, Yeah, I watched. I've actually
- 11:51Speaker 1: watched two periods of the game. Yeah. It was a physical,
- 11:56Speaker 1: you know game that had three five minute majors in it.
- 12:00Speaker 1: So sometimes you get those games that there's a lot
- 12:03Speaker 1: of I don't know, bad blood between the teams, and
- 12:07Speaker 1: but I want to focus on playing hard in between
- 12:10Speaker 1: the whistles, not after.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Right, What do you think of ties performance over the
- 12:14Speaker 4: weekend in.
- 12:14Speaker 1: That I thought he was very solid, you know, I thought,
- 12:19Speaker 1: you know, probably Saturday, I thought he was He was
- 12:22Speaker 1: tested more on Saturday for sure than he was on Friday.
- 12:25Speaker 1: And I thought he made some really big saves for
- 12:28Speaker 1: us at key moments.
- 12:30Speaker 4: And I trust you must have liked what you saw
- 12:32Speaker 4: from your penalty kill.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought the penalty kill did a good job.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I thought times that, uh, we made mistakes on the
- 12:41Speaker 1: penalty kill. TI bailed us out. So you know, there's
- 12:45Speaker 1: a couple of areas where I think we've got to
- 12:46Speaker 1: be better on the penalty kill, and we were addressing
- 12:49Speaker 1: those yesterday in practice. And as I said, it's it's
- 12:52Speaker 1: our first weekend, and you know, there's there's a lot
- 12:55Speaker 1: to work on. In our game, whereby by no means
- 12:59Speaker 1: you know, you know, perfect team yet.
- 13:03Speaker 4: All right, thanks Mike, well ahead, get to you Dan.
- 13:11Speaker 5: Oh sorry, I think my hand was just still all good.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Anything else for coach.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Guys, I'll do one if I could go for around it.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Flynn and Simpson look like they're gonna both be seeing
- 13:23Speaker 3: bigger roles than they had last year. How were their
- 13:26Speaker 3: off seasons? And you know, what do you see from
- 13:28Speaker 3: them as they get into the lineup and you know
- 13:31Speaker 3: we're key contributors this weekend.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they both had great off seasons and uh,
- 13:37Speaker 1: you know, they both played pretty well this weekend. But
- 13:41Speaker 1: you know, it's it's a long year too, and everybody
- 13:43Speaker 1: has to keep improving and getting better. But I was
- 13:47Speaker 1: certainly happy with both of their performances on the weekend.
- 13:53Speaker 2: For me, awesome, well appreciated coach, Thank you everyone, good
- 13:58Speaker 2: luck this weekend.
- 13:59Speaker 1: All right, Thanks guys, Thank you coach, Thank you Colling.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Thanks
