Transcript
- 0:00Good morning and welcome back to Spy Trader .
- 0:03I am your host , Penny Wiseman , and I am so glad you are spending a bit of your weekend with me .
- 0:09It is currently 6 am on Saturday , September 12th , 2026 , here in the Pacific time zone .
- 0:16While most of the world is just waking up to their Saturday morning cartoons or a quiet cup of coffee , we are looking back at a pretty wild week on Wall Street .
- 0:26If you felt a little motion sickness watching your portfolio this week , you were not alone .
- 0:32We officially hit that September wall we always hear about .
- 0:36The S&P 500 , or the SPY as we like to call it , finished the week down one point two percent .
- 0:43It seems institutional investors are doing some endofsummer housecleaning and rebalancing their portfolios after reaching alltime highs in late August .
- 0:54The techheavy Nasdaq100 , represented by the QQQ , took an even harder tumble , dropping two and a half percent .
- 1:02This was mostly profittaking in the semiconductor space after a massive summer rally .
- 1:07But here is a silver lining : the smallcaps in the Russell 2000 , or the IWM , actually stayed flat .
- 1:15It looks like people are moving money out of those big Magnificent Seven tech giants and into some undervalued domestic industrial companies .
- 1:24Let us talk about why tech had such a rough go .
- 1:27NVIDIA , ticker NVDA , saw a four percent dip this week after news broke about new export restrictions to emerging AI hubs in the Middle East .
- 1:37That dragged the whole technology sector , the XLK , down with it as the focus shifts from AI potential to actual monetization .
- 1:46On the flip side , healthcare was the star of the show .
- 1:50The XLV rose one point eight percent because companies like Eli Lilly , ticker LLY , and Novo Nordisk , ticker NVO , reached new highs .
- 2:01They received FDA approval for their Generation 3 obesity drugs , which are showing major cardiovascular benefits .
- 2:09Speaking of big names , Apple held its Glowtime event for the iPhone 18 .
- 2:15Initially , investors did the classic sell the news dance , but the stock started to bounce back once analysts realized how big the Apple Intelligence 3.0 upgrade cycle could be .
- 2:26And we cannot forget Tesla , which jumped over three percent on Friday after getting the green light for Level 4 autonomous driving in three more states .
- 2:36Even the banks got in on the action , with JPMorgan Chase , ticker JPM , announcing a surprise ten percent dividend hike that really boosted confidence in a soft landing for the economy .
- 2:49Now , why is all this happening ?
- 2:51Well , the latest Consumer Price Index report released on September 10th showed headline inflation at two point four percent .
- 2:59While that is good , Core Services are still a bit sticky .
- 3:04Fed Chair Jerome Powell basically said the inflation dragon is mostly slain , but they are not going to rush into cutting interest rates any further in 2026 .
- 3:13This higher for longer strategy kept bond yields interesting , with the tenyear yield sliding to three point eight five percent as people grabbed the TLT bond ETF for safety during the equity selloff .
- 3:25So , what is the game plan for your morning coffee and your brokerage account ?
- 3:30First , do not panic sell your SPY .
- 3:34This dip is seasonal and totally normal for September .
- 3:37For a core growth play , I like looking at the Invesco QQQ Trust right now .
- 3:43This two and a half percent pullback is a classic healthy correction , and it sets us up nicely for a traditional fourthquarter rally .
- 3:51If you want something a bit more defensive , check out the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund , or XLV .
- 3:59Stocks like UnitedHealth and Amgen offer great stability and lower volatility while we wait for the market to settle .
- 4:05And if you are just looking for steady income and stability , the Vanguard Real Estate ETF , VNQ , is looking attractive with a dividend yield near four percent .
- 4:17You might also consider the iShares Core U.S.
- 4:19Aggregate Bond ETF , or AGG , as a safety net .
- 4:25One last tip : if you have high exposure to NVIDIA , maybe trim ten percent of that position and move that money into financials , like the XLF , to capture some of that JPMorgan dividend momentum .
- 4:37Stay focused on U.S.
- 4:39stocks for the next thirty days and keep an eye on the dollar .
- 4:42Remember , the market is a marathon , not a sprint .
- 4:46Thanks for joining me on Spy Trader .
- 4:48I am Penny Wiseman , and I hope you have a wonderful , relaxing weekend !
