- 0:00Speaker 1: Back with you know, we have a doubleheader tomorrow on
- 0:02Speaker 1: the network. We've got the Men and Butler from Indianapolis
- 0:05Speaker 1: at Eklefield House eleven thirty for Mike and Wayne, and
- 0:07Speaker 1: then of course we're with you tomorrow night seven thirty
- 0:10Speaker 1: for another Top ten showdown between Yukon and USC first
- 0:13Speaker 1: meeting since that great Elite eight game in Portland, and
- 0:16Speaker 1: we'll preview that later with coach. Obviously, it was a
- 0:19Speaker 1: three headed monster scoring the basketball and going back with
- 0:23Speaker 1: Carl adamiking the research. A trio has not scored that
- 0:26Speaker 1: many points since that wild game at UCLA where you
- 0:28Speaker 1: won one thirteen to one oh two, where Sveet scored
- 0:31Speaker 1: thirty nine, Shay scored twenty eight. Oh yeah, Tamika chipped
- 0:34Speaker 1: in with seventeen. But what those three did that was
- 0:37Speaker 1: pretty special. And I just marvel more and more watching
- 0:41Speaker 1: Sarah play. How soft her hands are. Not only just quick,
- 0:44Speaker 1: you know with tips and stuff, but she can really
- 0:47Speaker 1: catch the basketball and make a not so great pass
- 0:50Speaker 1: look good and turn into a good play.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, the best players have some innate characteristics. They usually
- 1:05Speaker 2: have great feet, you know, they usually have great hands.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Whenever the balls around them, they catch it because they
- 1:17Speaker 2: want to score, you know, so they they also have
- 1:21Speaker 2: tremendous feel for the game. So she knows where I
- 1:26Speaker 2: have to be on every single movement of the ball.
- 1:32Speaker 2: She seems to be where she needs to be to
- 1:36Speaker 2: either make a play for herself or make a play
- 1:38Speaker 2: for somebody else. And it's not anything that's contrived or
- 1:43Speaker 2: it's not anything that's set up for her. It's not
- 1:46Speaker 2: plays at or run a lot of times, it's just
- 1:49Speaker 2: within the concept of how we move and how we operate.
- 1:54Speaker 2: She's so gifted at finding it's almost like a great
- 1:59Speaker 2: hot player who finds every crease, every hole, every gap
- 2:06Speaker 2: that any any which way that the puck can get
- 2:09Speaker 2: on their stick. They know it. Somebody else might stand
- 2:13Speaker 2: here and they're just like half a foot away or
- 2:15Speaker 2: a foot away that if they moved a little bit,
- 2:17Speaker 2: they change everything. She just knows that, and you know,
- 2:22Speaker 2: I think that's what she's So that's why she's so
- 2:25Speaker 2: hard to play against.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Has she exceeded your expectations so far?
- 2:29Speaker 2: You know? It's interesting because I would like to say yes,
- 2:35Speaker 2: But I when we were recruiting her, and every time
- 2:40Speaker 2: I would go watch her play, I actually had unrealistic
- 2:44Speaker 2: expectations for her. So for you know, for me to say, yes,
- 2:47Speaker 2: she exceeded my expectations, I'd be lying because even now
- 2:52Speaker 2: at practice, when she does something that's really really hard
- 2:55Speaker 2: to do, I just walk away as if like, yeah,
- 2:58Speaker 2: of course, what else can you do? You know? So
- 3:00Speaker 2: it's become where the expectations that I have for her
- 3:05Speaker 2: are unlike any for ninety percent of the freshmen that
- 3:09Speaker 2: have ever played here.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yeah, there's very few freshmen that you can scratch the
- 3:13Speaker 1: surface a talent b IQ that you ever had here.
- 3:16Speaker 1: That's very rare.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah. I mean you think about, you know,
- 3:20Speaker 2: the great players that have come through here, and uh,
- 3:24Speaker 2: they'll find their way little by little, you know, players
- 3:29Speaker 2: like Sarah. You know, they they're not they're not waiting,
- 3:38Speaker 2: they're not taking their time. They they are they are
- 3:42Speaker 2: imposing it on the game. Right now, eleven games into
- 3:47Speaker 2: the season and she's playing like a veteran.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah, she sure is. Jenn l Alfie, eleven games and
- 3:56Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on her, I know, coming back
- 3:58Speaker 1: from the injury, what have you seen from her so far?
- 4:01Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure we're just scratching the surface with
- 4:03Speaker 1: this young lady too.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I think she's very disappointed in herself that she
- 4:09Speaker 2: expects to be better and be more productive. I'm disappointed
- 4:17Speaker 2: for her. I think there's a level of frustration that
- 4:26Speaker 2: she has right now because of how good she wants
- 4:28Speaker 2: to be that's getting in the way. So we're trying
- 4:33Speaker 2: to make it very very simple, you know, getting her
- 4:37Speaker 2: to isolate her thinking to how can I help this
- 4:43Speaker 2: team win right now? You know, how can my defense
- 4:46Speaker 2: help this team win? Like Ice the other night? You
- 4:48Speaker 2: know her defense helped us in that game. How can
- 4:51Speaker 2: I rebounding help us win the game tonight? How can
- 4:54Speaker 2: I catch the ball in the lane and just get
- 4:57Speaker 2: it up on the rim and you know, get a
- 4:58Speaker 2: couple of easy buckets. And right now, it's it's a
- 5:04Speaker 2: work in progress, as you said, but I know she
- 5:08Speaker 2: wants it really, really, really bad and it'll come. We
- 5:15Speaker 2: just have to be patient, which you know she's not
- 5:20Speaker 2: and I'm not. So we're trying to work through that.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Yeah, well, you mentioned you brought up Ice. I mean,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you you had the three that went off like crazy offensively,
- 5:30Speaker 1: but you mentioned Ice, and let's bring in Caitlin Chen
- 5:32Speaker 1: in that equation too. She didn't score until the fourth quarter,
- 5:36Speaker 1: but she had eight assistant one turnover. Those two impacted
- 5:38Speaker 1: the game without scoring, they.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Did, And to me, that's a real gift, you know
- 5:43Speaker 2: that you have that you can impact the game without scoring,
- 5:46Speaker 2: that you can, you know, impose yourself, whether it's I
- 5:56Speaker 2: am going to play great defense, I am going to
- 5:59Speaker 2: rebound the ball, I am going to find the open man.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I am going to take care of the ball and
- 6:05Speaker 2: make sure we get a quality possession every time down.
- 6:10Speaker 2: You know, I think both of them play to their strengths,
- 6:14Speaker 2: you know, and that's all you want players to do.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Just tell me what you're tell me what you're really really,
- 6:21Speaker 2: really proud of, what you're really good at, and then
- 6:25Speaker 2: go out and do that every night. The points they're
- 6:29Speaker 2: a byproduct of all that. Now, some players go in there,
- 6:32Speaker 2: I want to score a lot tonight and they end
- 6:34Speaker 2: up playing lousy. So I was really proud of those
- 6:38Speaker 2: two and and I think that's that's a great sign
- 6:44Speaker 2: going forward.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah, sure is. Well, you know, as we continue here
- 6:47Speaker 1: on the U kind of Women's Basketball Coaches show on Learfield,
- 6:49Speaker 1: in just a moment
