- 0:00[SPEAKER_04]: these three behaviors constantly derail us from doing the things that we want to do or the things that we say are so important for us and he said all three of them share the same route.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, what is the route of perfectionism, procrastination, and overthinking?
- 0:13[SPEAKER_04]: Drum roll please.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_04]: BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the be it till you see it podcast, where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also Logan, prize instructor and fitness business coach.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: I've trained thousands of people around the world, and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: My friends, action brings clarity.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: Each week my guess will bring bold, executable, intrinsic, and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it until you see it.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to the video till you see an interview recap where my co-hosts and life Brad and I are going to dig into the encouraging combat I have with John Malora in our last episode.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't yet, listen at interview, feel free to pause this now.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: Go back and listen to that one and then listen to this one or listen to this one and then listen to that one.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: They're fun back to back to be completely honest in this matter order you want to do and John Malora's he said, this is the second time on the pod.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the first one he was in the hunt does.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: Is that crazy?
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like saying.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_04]: Let's probably put some almost 500 episodes ago.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's literally bring back.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: Send it in, guys.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_04]: Let us know.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: Today is Thursday, November 27th, 2025, and for Americans, it is.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: Turkey day.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_03]: It's Thanksgiving day.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but it's also for Americans and anyone else wants to celebrate on Thanksgiving day.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: Let's before people get upset.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: This is what un Thanksgiving day is.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's also known as National Day of Morning or Indigenous People's Sunrise ceremony.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's commemorated on the 4th Thursday in November that is on purpose.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: because, well, I'll tell you more in a second.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: This place it takes place on November 27th, but it just happens on to be on the same Thursday as Thanksgiving because it's always the fourth Thursday, and it actually, there's a big thing over on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay to honor the digits peoples of America and promote their rights.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason why we do this is because, well, there's also an actually morning is what they do in Boston.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: But what they do in happening in at Alcatrazism, when it was no longer being used as a prison, the indigenous people went and took over the island and they lived in it and then habit it and controlled it for 19 months.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: And it's kind of amazing.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's basically them taking their land back, which is very beautiful.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: And we didn't do this because we don't have episodes come on Monday, but I really loved that on Columbus Day, the day, formerly known as Columbus Day in this household.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: known as indigenous peoples day, somebody, somebody supposed to mean it said, a reminder that on this day in 1492, indigenous people discovered Columbus lost at sea.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: or whatever day it was.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I're the year correctly, but I love it.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, yeah, you can fucking discover this place.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: So so anyways, if you're like me and Brad, it's sometimes these holidays are kind of hard to celebrate because like of course I want to spend time with family, of course I want to spend time with friends, of course we need days off, and we do need some joy.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: But I think finding new ways to educate ourselves and then celebrate
- 3:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we're just to have some clarity around the history of a holiday, you know, like like historically the Romans would take the conquered people's holidays and you know morph them so that the people could still celebrate and then over time things would change and now all the sudden we have, you know, things like Christmas or Halloween or whatever, you know, and they've been, they've been,
- 4:14[SPEAKER_04]: basically taking over and thanksgiving is is I don't think thanksgiving was taken over but thanksgiving has a different process there's a folklore story about like what happened I'm like this but it's a well it's yeah it's what's it's that you know we came we saw we conquered kind of thing and we did that but it's a day of thanks right that thanks for this new land that we took for people so you know I
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for that, and I, I, it's like a bully kicking a kid, taking a lunch break.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks, man.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_04]: You know, so I still think that we can have a day where we, we are thankful for the things that we have and family and those things, but I think it's also fair to recognize that,
- 5:05[SPEAKER_04]: they want to remember their history too and the genocide of indigenous people that happened when we came over here.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah and I just think like hallmark washing and no offense to that company but like just making everything like this beautiful day to like you know go out and buy decorations and all this different stuff.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's like I think you can have a day of thanks and I think but I also think like
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: It is important that we're educating ourselves about the people that have been hurt by this kind of stuff and also have a day of thanks and be thankful for them and what they did for this land before we got here.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, thanks for thanks for going down that journey with us.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, happy Thanksgiving day.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's intentionally on Thanksgiving every year.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the fourth, so when is the fourth, fourth Thursday of November?
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: So, and you know, here's the, if you're like, guys, thanks totally understand, you know, honor them every day and I love Thanksgiving.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: That is very, very cool.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: But for some people who are having a hard time right now with this holiday, we just gave you one.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_04]: You're welcome.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_04]: All right, coming up it is we are in the middle of our Black Friday server Monday sale right now for OPC online Pilates classes.com Just go to actually check your emails, but I want to say it's OPC dot me slash BFCM Black Friday server Monday for the short link for that in December in literally a week we leave and we hit the road We are driving to Colorado

- 6:32[SPEAKER_04]: There are 23 cities, public stops there.

- 6:41[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and

- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: So go to opc.me slash tour for tickets on the remaining stops and then it's also happening later in December because we're not doing a black Friday cyber money sale for profit-applies this year.

- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: But you'll need to have the beyond the email list for Prof. Platties, so if you're not on that list, you need to get on that list and go do that.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then after our tours over, we come home, I've fixed my roots, I've changed my nails, I launch a mentorship program, and then we drive out tending to you.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_04]: I think I'll shave while you're doing all those things.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you'll have your shave going on, but you'll probably need to trim.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to go, we'll be at the Plyzerinal Expo and Huntington Beach.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's the first time the Plyzerinal is doing an event in the states.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's a humongous lineup of teachers, some that I who I used to take from when I was a baby poised person and some that I've taught how to teach.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of crazy.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll want to go to the plies journal expo to join us on that party exxll.co slash plies journal.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: Then we're home for a little bit, thank goodness, because like everybody in their mom is wanting to visit in February.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: And oh, there's more in January.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, there's more in January.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_04]: So we're gonna do it.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's also my birthday.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see that on the event list.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_04]: For those of you who've been interested in joining us on A Polaris Retreat, where we hang out, we decompress from all the insanity that this life has for us, each and every one of us is different.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_04]: Go to crowsnestertreets.com, get yourself on the wait list.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_04]: In January, we're going to be doing our pre-sale, our early bird for our retreat for next year, which will be in October at our home in Cambodia.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_04]: We are actually going to be doing a call at the middle end of January.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_04]: It's not yet on the calendar exactly, but we're going to have a call and we're going to interview a couple of our past attendees.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to hang out.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to talk about the trip and all the things that everybody's ever wanted to know.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be great.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_04]: So come join us for that.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_04]: But you got to be on the wait list for that.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_04]: Go to crowsnestertreets.com to get on the wait list.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_04]: And then in February, something that is really unpassioned about as well as agency mini.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_04]: So as you know, we coach Pilates business owners and we have a coaching program and all those fun things.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_04]: But people often look at it and go, I don't know if I'm ready for a six month commitment.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_04]: No problem.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_04]: That's why we created agency many and it's a three day program.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_04]: You should be seven.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_04]: We've shrunk it down a three because we all know how crazy life actually is it is a really powerful three days and you should join us for that go to PR FIT dot biz slash mini PR FIT dot biz slash mini that's profit without the oh And then we got our plane for the first time in almost six months, which is insane insane.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's good.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sitting here.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: We're knowing we have six months not of no flying.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: So it's just the really ridiculous thing, but I saw it on the day we're at the airport some real Which was like have you ever been to the airport and you realize like every time I go to the airport, it is everybody's first time on this earth
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: And so I was just like looking at people and I don't say I had more empathy for them.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, well, sir, first time here.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: And then we pull the move where we just stopped and all of the airport, like you did, like people do.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: And then we're just like, turn, I'm like, I'm so sorry.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_03]: Cutting people off.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, like, I was like, oops, I'm so sorry.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's our first time on this planet.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't understand what I was saying, but I laughed my heart out.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: But anyways, we're home for six months, and then when we get on a plane, it's a big deal because we are going to be in three different countries teaching in the content continent of Europe because I can't say the EU anymore since the Brexit, so we'll go here.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, right?
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: I have to, like, London is England, it's its own thing.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: Almost positive.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: I have to say, like the European continent.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: so annoying.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll just say.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's considered part of Europe geographically, but not the EU.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_04]: Although technically, it's the European continental shelf anyway.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_04]: No, it's not the EU, but it is part of Europe.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's like when we were in Dona Grotes, and we had to be so specific.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: We couldn't say we were at the top of the UK.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: We had to say we're at the top of the mainland UK.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_04]: Right, because there are islands or top of mainland Scotland.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: So, okay, so when we're going to
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: slash Poland here in freshman is doing that with me and it's really fun.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't been back there in a couple of years, really, really great time, really cool people there so I can't wait to see you guys.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: And then the next week, and we'll be in Brussels, that L's studio tells and you want to go to xxl.co-brussles.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: same two teachers, very different workshops, also private sessions.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: So choose the adventure you want to go on, check up both lineups and pick the one you want to go to or come to both and hang out with us in two different countries, why not?
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: And then an April, Brad and I will be at the POT in London.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: We're very excited about my first POT in London.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I know it's going to be a great time.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a really fun to see all this people.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: So pick the one you want, my European
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: for 2026.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's all there is.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_04]: So xxll.co-polind or slash Brussels.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_04]: Eventually we might have slash London, but they're not, they don't even have a landing page up yet to buy tickets for that.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: From the time that we're recording this, it might be happening.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_04]: We're putting it on your radar.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_04]: So go to Pilates.com and go see their continuing education.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_04]: That's where they have all that information about future POTs.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_04]: Pilates on Twitter.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_04]: All right, so this week we had a question for you from Natalie with it.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_04]: Natalie DS-9D-11 asks on YouTube about the video, how to take your Pilates practice outdoors.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_04]: She said, hey, how about doing Pilates outdoors during winter?
- 12:40[SPEAKER_04]: In Madrid, which is where I am, winter is not extreme.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_04]: I have a big terrace, which is where I do Pilates since I'm in my apartment.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_04]: There's just not that much space for me to move.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you live somewhere, where it's beautiful in the winter, fuck yeah, do it outside, tag me in a video.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: Take it in my classes on OPC, or I'm plizing anytime, or on YouTube, and I want to see yours, I want to live like curiously through you, because let me tell you, I would love to be in the winter, instead I am in the winter places.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_04]: I'm in the winter.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in the places where winter happens, but I would love, that's great.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, when I did that video, I was being conscious of like,
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: If I say you do that door, I'm going to get someone's like, I can't.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's negative 21 degrees here and it's going to be 115 here.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: So I have to like, you know, be considerate because some people just don't feel seen.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: So you might here are in the blessed space.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: We actually have a couple of OPC members who also live in Spain and they do their plays outside all year long.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: So please rock on do it.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: But basically, when you're doing plays outside, there's just things that consider you can check out that video.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: We did on YouTube because I'm not going to exhaust exhaustive lists that I gave on there.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: But we just did pulizing Cambodia and something we have to consider is like bugs.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, rain.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: We can do it in the rain there because we have a covered patio, but as long as the rain isn't going sideways on which can happen, then we have these things that we bring down to make the walls, so it's not so much water on the patio, but the mosquitoes don't care.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: So we have to, we have extra fans that like make it harder for them to land, you know.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: So there's this thing you want to think about when you're doing pulleys outside, and I have blue eyes.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: It is really difficult for me to do outside pulleys when there's no cover.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: I was doing, early in the spring, I was doing yoga outside the morning, and it was fine as long as I was in down dog.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: But the moment I came up, the sun was in my face and I was like, well, this isn't this is terrible.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: I need sunglasses that you can't do sunglasses.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: You can't work with sunglasses.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: So like you just it looks stunning.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: Just make sure you have things set up so that you're not constantly distracted from your work at about being outside.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's all.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: Love it.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: If you have a question, you can text us at plus one three one oh nine oh five five three four or submit them at be it pot dot com slash questions where I would like you to send a win as well.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean demanding here come on you have a win in your life.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: You do you know I don't know something one of our
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: Um, one of our, yeah, one of our retreaters.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: She had a win one day after our retreat.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: She said I only said I'm sorry two times.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: It was amazing.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like, can you walk around?
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's a fucking win.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: Huge win.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_01]: Instead of walking around, I'm sorry.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like, she just said, excuse me.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then when she needed to do it, she said, I'm sorry.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, oh, no, two times.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: I was such a win.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: So those are the wins I want to hear.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't need to hear.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I have my biggest launch effort.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, great.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's wonderful.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm super excited for you.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: And you can send that in.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: But like, there were little wins along the way.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_01]: And if you don't celebrate those, you are, and you're unlikely to fill filled for a long period of time.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I just looked up on our board.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_04]: We have a win.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_04]: I'm gonna read it.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_04]: Big win this week, this is from Jordan BB.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_04]: I've neglected using my one-to-chair for quite a while now, so I decided it was time to break out my chair flashcards.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_04]: I started working through the order, and whatever bits of time I had available each day, starting from the top of the deck each day to get to the repetition.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_04]: By the time I got to my second week, I sort of feel like connections in my body,
- 16:18[SPEAKER_04]: that the week previous, I couldn't have even dreamed of.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_04]: Exercises that felt impossible to move were actually moving, but even better, I felt more connected to myself.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_04]: Super excited to add my chair back into my regular rotation.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you, Leslie, for the amazing flashcard.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm so grateful for you and don't click that off, Brad, because I'm going to say it on fly-offs, so as you can hear, and I'm one of those episodes.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like that is so freaking cool.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: Great job Jordan.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: I just want another shout out to Jordan She is also a listener who went to discover this podcast went back to the beginning and listen to every single one Wow, I know so pretty big deal pretty amazing win.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right Jordan, you're amazing I'll put that in FYF so you're in here at twice because what if she misses this episode?
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's talk about John Malora
- 17:06[SPEAKER_04]: John Malara.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, so stick around.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_04]: We'll be right back.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_04]: We're gonna talk about John.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_04]: Welcome back.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_04]: All right, let's dig into this convoy with John Malara.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_04]: John is a personal coach and keynote speaker who helps people move from fear and hesitation into confidence and action, which I love that.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_04]: For 15 years, he had, he led.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_04]: Test operations on NASA missions before stepping into a new chapter as an award-winning photographer with work featured in National Geographic.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_04]: Today he shares those experiences through coaching and his signature talk elite level confidence.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_04]: Giving people simple tools to build trust in themselves and take consistent action in their lives.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_04]: Look, we blessing I have, man, we connect it with John three or four years ago now.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: at least he was in the hundreds.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, look, if you like to read newsletters, John's newsletters are great.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_04]: He really takes time to write enjoyable newsletters and I read them.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_04]: I don't really read anything.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_04]: So John's newsletters are really fun.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_04]: So I really like that.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like I've been along his journey with him as he's shifted from engineer to photographer to now being a speaker in a coach.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_04]: So we're really fired up for him.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_04]: It's been awesome to have him, he's coming to speak to agency or coaching group multiple times and his content is available for those who are members of agency and then we were like, hey man, would you like to be back on the pod and we got this epic episode it's like this episode felt like
- 18:43[SPEAKER_04]: a mic drop moment on every chapter of the conversation that y'all were having.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_04]: You know, talking about confidence, talking about perfectionism, talking about all these great things that I literally listen to it twice.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_04]: So.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's so good.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: Well, thanks for doing that.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's so fun to have guess back and see where they've gone.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: Some people have gone further in the same lane.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: Some people have switched lanes.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: Some people have reversed and then re-wound and, you know, like, and so for he has switched lanes, but really it seems like it all aligns because he
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: basically what I like that he said, which goes with what I'm just saying is that he talked about it's being really important to be aware.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like the more aware you are, it's actually really powerful thing.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_01]: And and it's because when you have a secret mindset, right?
- 19:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's going to help you and you have that curiosity is going to help you in what you want to be and what you want to do.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: So clearly he was
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: In that seeking mode that a being aware mode and that's where he's like, oh, I'm a girl.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to award when you're photographer.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_01]: I have a NASA engineer, but I actually really want, I'm feeling called to do this thing over here and it lights me up and that you're just going to get hinders like that to his genius sound.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like it would be so easy for him to, it's just put a shake call like you're whatever, like there's a zone of excellence.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: which is his photography but his own genius is this and I just really loved it.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: He also said like when you are being aware it's important that you don't judge yourself with your awareness like that's where the critic lives you like things you'll say is like well that's not going to happen or like this is never going to work but instead shifting into that secret mindset and having awareness and curiosity.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah that so okay this part I thought was
- 20:32[SPEAKER_04]: because he already in his adult life with kids and a wife changed from being a, I'm guessing, stable, high paying government job, where is an engineer for NASA to an unstable.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_04]: Potentially high paying, but who knows job of being a photographer.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_04]: Now, he happens to kick ass at being a photographer, you know, but he said that the engineering job, he quit.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_04]: He started something else.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_04]: He got another engineering job.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_04]: Then realized that still wasn't the right answer.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_04]: Then he started doing something that he found fulfilling.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_04]: And then after a while was like, this isn't doing it either.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_04]: And then decided to make us another change in his adult life.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_04]: And he's like, I honestly didn't even want to tell him my wife.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_04]: because she'd already been on the journey with me getting out of being an engineer.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_04]: And now I'm like, thought I was doing the thing I wanted to do, but I'm not feeling it.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's not actually the right thing for me.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_04]: And then, you know, and so he has, what I thought was really great is,
- 21:41[SPEAKER_04]: you through in there.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_04]: Well, look, it was maybe we end up thinking that we need to do this thing for because we made the decision.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_04]: Right?
- 21:52[SPEAKER_04]: For me, this really resonated with my decision to go to college for music.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_04]: Right, and I left, and then my whole time in Los Angeles for the first decade I was there, I was like, I am a musician.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_04]: That's how I defined myself.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_04]: That's how I saw myself.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_04]: I am in a band.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_04]: I do perform.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_04]: This is what I do.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_04]: This is who I am.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_04]: And when you started, when that started to shift and change and not be that anymore, I was like, well, what do I do now, that I'm not, can I do something else, am I allowed?
- 22:27[SPEAKER_04]: literally spend $80,000 or whatever was going to college.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_04]: I don't even know, a lot of money going to college to be a musician, you know, am I, am I like, is it okay to not be a musician anymore?
- 22:38[SPEAKER_04]: You know, while I still can think of myself as a musician today, that's not my primary thing that I'm doing, but it was just one step along the way.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_04]: And, and I think it's okay for us to be making these changes in our lives.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_04]: You know, my, I never talked to with my friend about this, but my high school buddy,
- 22:56[SPEAKER_04]: went to school to be an engineer, right?
- 22:58[SPEAKER_04]: He went to Germany, he came back, he was doing all this really fancy engineering stuff.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_04]: And then somewhere along the way was like, this isn't it.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_04]: And then he went back to school to be a doctor.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, wait, you sent up for like four more years of school after already going to like four or five years of school and, you know, now he's a doctor and I, I mean, I have to imagine he really likes it or wouldn't keep doing it, but that is quite a path to jump from one to another, especially when the foundation to become a doctor again, you're you're starting over in a way.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's, and I think that clearly in that instance, like, he must have had to be a seeker and not a judge or in his, like, well, this isn't a work.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my God, it's former years of school.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: Judging himself, you know, or what, like, and this is like, this is the hard part, right?
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: Because when you share something, so it's really, really important who you share stuff with, like, I think sometimes some of you are listening.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: you so badly want someone in your life's love that you're telling them the thing that you're wanting to do and they are not your cheerleader.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's not because they are an asshole or trying to be an asshole.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's that they are in the critic zone.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: And so you have to be mindful like who you're sharing your dreams with and tell you, fill the muscle is very strong.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think that that was like, why he didn't want to share with his wife.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: But we very clear like he was just like, I've tell him we're starting all over again.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I do think that like there are like, when we told my grandfather, we're in a Cambodia, he's like, it's not safe there.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: Right, and what's he all he's doing is projecting his own fear his own fear you know, and so so it just be mindful those of you who are listening who are like in the curious space in the awareness space and you're feeling called yes you have excellent
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: Investments and other things you've done in your life that you're being called to do something else Be mindful that you tell the friends who are like fuck yeah You should do that the other people in your life You'll tell them when the muscles a bit stronger.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because I would just be afraid that their critic will come out and bring your critic to the party And we don't need that
- 25:02[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I think the high level here, you know, the conclusion of this thought is awareness plus curiosity is a win right awareness plus curiosity it enables progress.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_04]: So no matter where you are in your life, no matter what projects you're working on, if you have both awareness and curiosity, you will be able to move that ball forward.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_04]: So love that.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_04]: And speaking of your grandfather, that leads into what I really loved in a roundabout way you'll get there.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: I can't wait.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking at these notes.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I don't know.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: Did you know my grandmother?
- 25:38[SPEAKER_04]: I did.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_04]: So the big three that John talked about, this was a whole other chapter of the conversation.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_04]: And this is where I kept saying these are mic drop moments.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_04]: You know, he said, hey, look, it's not even about perfection.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_04]: It's not even about procrastination.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_04]: He said, in fact, there are the, these are the big three things that I talk about all the time.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_04]: Perfectionism, procrastination, and over thinking.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_04]: He said, these three behaviors constantly derail us from doing the things that we want to do.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_04]: or the things that we say are so important for us.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_04]: And he said the thing that they don't, all three of them share the same root.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, what is the root of perfectionism, procrastination, and overthinking?
- 26:16[SPEAKER_04]: Feminimal, please.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_04]: BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
- 26:24[SPEAKER_04]: Right, and this is what your grandfather was applying.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_04]: He was projecting his fear on us.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_04]: And that's when you share something with someone be cautious of that in the sense that they know you really well, they love you, they want the best for you.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_04]: And they are going to immediately look at it and see, what is the problem that could happen here?
- 26:50[SPEAKER_04]: And they're going to push that out there.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_04]: be really deflating for you, especially if you aren't yet, like, you don't yet have surety in the place you're going, you're feeling it out, right?
- 27:02[SPEAKER_04]: Because that, like, they don't want you to be hurt or fail or any of those things.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_04]: And fear is that that route, and it's easy for that to blossom into these things, perfection of some procrastination and overthinking.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_04]: And he said,
- 27:21[SPEAKER_04]: people can now get honest with ourselves and begin asking, what is it actually that I'm so scared of?
- 27:27[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, what is it actually?
- 27:28[SPEAKER_04]: I can't remember who it was, but a couple weeks ago we had another episode.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_04]: She was a business coach.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Jill.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_04]: I think it was, I think it was her.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: Hold on, hold on.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_04]: She said, what am I afraid of?
- 27:39[SPEAKER_04]: What's the worst could happen?
- 27:41[SPEAKER_04]: I could go bankrupt.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_04]: Right?
- 27:42[SPEAKER_04]: And I was like, well, that's a pretty big deal.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_04]: You know, but for her, she was like, okay.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_04]: Jill Allen Dr. Jill Allen yeah she said okay I can go bankrupt there's like well okay but she acknowledged that like what am I so afraid of if that's the worst that could happen can that be overcome like is that like it doesn't it's not something the laugh at but what if it do what if it does happen I don't know do I share this like mutt like I remember my trainer when I was like thinking of breaking up with my ex and I was like just like not he's like what are you afraid of like I don't I think you're not going
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, to me, the scariest thing, the thing that the ultimate fear is death, and you break you up with him, you're not going to die.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like in my situation, I'm sure that's not the same for other people, but I could just let me walk away, and I was like, oh, I'm not going to die.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: That is, I can do it.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: I love this question.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's really important to reflect on
- 28:43[SPEAKER_04]: and I got a job at this restaurant and it took me a week to get a job at a restaurant of where I walked around to.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know, a dozen more.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_04]: I don't even know.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_04]: I would evaluate the restaurant, see how busy they were at dinner to side.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_04]: Could I make enough money here?
- 28:57[SPEAKER_04]: And then do I want to work here?
- 28:58[SPEAKER_04]: Does this seem cool?
- 29:00[SPEAKER_04]: And I would put in an application.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_04]: And I went to all these different places.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_04]: And I finally got this job because I went back a second, a third time, a really one of the work at this restaurant.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_04]: And then I met these guys and they offered me a job.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_04]: And I called my best friend at the time.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_04]: And I said, hey man, I'm thinking of doing this.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_04]: And he, I said, but I'm worried.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_04]: I'm worried about, you know, like, they're gonna pay me a salary, but I would have to give up my restaurant job.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_04]: And he said, you can get it out of the restaurant job.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_04]: And I was like, oh, you're right.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_04]: like that's so true.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, even in a shitty economy, there's always an opportunity for something.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: It might not be, you know, it might not be the restaurant job, but it would be a restaurant job, like there's options.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_04]: So I thought that was really a stout of John to take these three things
- 30:00[SPEAKER_04]: dealt with, struggled with in our lives, perfectionism, procrastination, overthinking, connect the dots that there's fear as the root of these three things.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_04]: And then, how do we lean into that?
- 30:11[SPEAKER_04]: What are we so afraid of?
- 30:13[SPEAKER_04]: What are we so afraid of?
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and in your fears are a lot to be like, they could be a legitimate fears.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then at least the power is removed when it has air, you know, like the power of fear is really removed when you just like put it out on the table and at least then you can figure out like well, what would I do if that happened.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, so I loved it.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: I loved it.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: I loved it.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know, John's, we posted the tour and when we were home with me to Delaware.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's really close.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's really close.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think we should finally fuck and see him.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, it's going to be good.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_04]: John, we're calling you out, Jack.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_04]: We're calling you.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to call you.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: We got to talk to you.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: We got to talk to you.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: We got to talk to you.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: We got to talk to you.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: We got to talk to you.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_04]: We got to talk to you.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_04]: We got to talk to you.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_04]: We got to talk to you.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_04]: We got to talk to you.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_04]: We got to talk to you.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_04]: We got to talk to you.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_04]: We got to talk to you.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_04]: We got to talk to you.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_01]: We got to talk to you.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: We got to talk to you.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: We got to talk to you.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_04]: We got to talk to you.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_04]: All right, we'll be very back.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_04]: Finally, let's talk about those be it action items.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_04]: What are the bold, executable intrinsic or targeted action items that we could take away from your combo with John Malara?
- 31:16[SPEAKER_04]: He said confidence is the ability to trust yourself.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_04]: Confidence is the ability to trust yourself.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_04]: Most of us are showing up for the person we've made a commitment to, okay, I'll pick you up at six.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, I'll do the dishes, okay, I'll take the trash out.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_04]: You're committing to someone else, I'll do my homework, I'll do this thing, whatever.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_04]: But we constantly let our own selves down and it doesn't seem like a big deal.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: But it is a huge, mungous deal.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: It is a big deal.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: Say you're going to go to bat 9 p.m. and you don't go back till 10, you are literally taking a drop out of the confidence bucket.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and it's subconscious, you might not be like, oh, can't believe it.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I didn't go to bed at night at clock.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_01]: Please, please listen to the habits podcast.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: I don't do that.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_04]: In your, in your belief, you're, you're chipping away at the foundation of confidence that you have in yourself when you don't uphold your own decisions to yourself.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_04]: Right, and you might not realize that that's happening, but he explained the actual root cause people's lack of confidence is that they're not showing up for themselves and meaning that loss of self trust because we consistently and continually break commitments we made ourselves time and time again that will
- 32:31[SPEAKER_04]: It's fascinating because John is an engineer first.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_04]: So he still thinks and talks like an engineer, even though he's very creative with photography and now working with his clients and coaching.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_04]: But he started talking about data, you know, or the data, sorry.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_04]: And so he said, he said, you, why,
- 32:54[SPEAKER_04]: Why don't we uphold these things for ourselves because we never have upheld these things for ourselves, but we can change that, we can rectify that by starting to keep these promises to ourselves.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_04]: When you start to give your brain a new set of data to work with, instead of the old data of broken self-promises, right?
- 33:10[SPEAKER_04]: So how do we do that?
- 33:11[SPEAKER_04]: Small, consistent actions that aren't a big thing, but over time they add up to, I am consistent.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_04]: I do these things, I do wake up earlier.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_04]: I do go to
- 33:22[SPEAKER_04]: All the things that we say we want to go do, but we don't uphold, we don't do them.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_04]: Why don't we fall through?
- 33:28[SPEAKER_04]: It's because we never have.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_04]: Well, we can change that by making these small decisions day by day.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: Agreed.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: I loved.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: these he gave us some questions and this is really fun thing for you to do journal part and said when making conscious decisions on honor ones future itself one must ask is what I'm going to do or not do going to cause me to be a hero to the future me.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: I love this.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: I love this.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_01]: I look back at the me in 2013 who made that big decision.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: Go, I'm the fucking hero to myself.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think God, I fucking did that when I did it because my whole life was like the domino effect of like everything that I wanted.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_01]: So yes, right?
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: The goals to ensure that when you meet your future self, you are not staying there tired and disappointed because you feel to go after it.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: If you ever said, oh, by this date, I want to have X thing.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: And then you didn't do anything.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: And then you got to that date.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I wanted to be over here by now.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the effort team, it's not like, I have missed dates on goals that I was working towards.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a difference between actually working towards something and the deadline is further than you thought than not doing anything at all.
