- 0:37SPEAKER_00: I know how to piano protect it.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Don't ten years later, the error of his weight.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: My guest today now is one of the biggest stars of TikTok and Instagram.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: He's a comedian, author, and has a master following of millions with its hilarious content.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: It's the Pover King himself, Shabat says.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: Thanks for having me.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: How are you doing today?
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Well, I just came through Bethnel Green, which was uh a track.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: It was yeah.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: You've been through Bethnel Green before?
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: Oh, interesting.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I just came from Leicester Square and then uh staying in Leicester Square, which is the fancy that only if people pay for it.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: I've not paid for myself.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, it was it was it was an interesting journey down from uh Bethnel Green station to uh to your studio.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: I was filming it on the way, and I was like, maybe I shouldn't do anything because people would be like, What's wrong with Bethnal Green?
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: I was like, yeah.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: I love it around here, but I love it because of the food around here.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: The food is so.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: I can imagine.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: But things like that's the thing, like places where it's not always so like gentrified or like um always have the nicest food places, always where you want to find somewhere to eat, you go to like uh yeah these kind of areas, but yeah, it was really funny.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm not snob in the slightest, but I sound like one now.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: But I was walking through Bethel Green, I was like, this is London.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like this is a real London.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Where are you based now?
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: I'm up I'm still up north, still in Blackburn, my whole which isn't any better.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: I'm acting like I'm from somewhere and I mean I've I've never been to Blackburn.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: We'll feel right at home if you're from Bethnel Green.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Trust me, it's exactly the same.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: It's nice, yeah.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Like I don't know.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: I've been here, I've been working in Bethnel Green for like seven, eight months now.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: But like before that, I was working in White, I was living in Whitechapel.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Which is like just as much.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: It's just the exact same thing.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: No, do you know what it is?
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: I will say these kind of areas have so much character.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: Like you do also feel a sense of like it sounds really weird, but if you live here and you're part of the community, you do feel safe in a way.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Like Blackburn's like that.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: Like other people might see Blackburn as like uh oh, you know, whatever it is, it has its reputation.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: But for me, I know everyone, yeah, I know the area, I know my corner shop is, I know where my uncle's shop is, you know what I mean?
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: I know where all the the dry cleaner is, or even like stupid things like you know, like and you want milk in the middle of the night, you know that you just knock on uncle's shop and get it from there.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Exactly, yeah.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: That's what I love about it.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: But also, like you were saying, like some of the areas that aren't this is so gentrified, this area.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: If you go like to some plant some parts of it, it probably is now in it.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: This is very gentrified.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: Does this come into Hackney?
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, that's it.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: And everyone talks about Hackney as like, yeah, oh my god, it's so nice, it's so like hicky.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I wonder why ten years ago, yeah, yeah.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: No, I do remember this from like 10 this area 10 years ago, and you just would not go near it because it was so dangerous.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, kind of mad, isn't it?
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: But that's what they do until like look at Camden, like Camden Camden is so weird now.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Camden's got like a really odd uh yeah, it doesn't know what it wants to be.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: It wants to be street, but then it's also got like really expensive apartments there.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it's crazy.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: No, I um I remember Camden from my like like teens and everything, and that was like so that was like the rock punk sort of scene.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Like now now it just feels a bit like too dated, and like now I remember Camden.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: I actually watched uh Ed Sheeran perform in Camden before he was Ed Sheeran, like with this lip.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, I watched him perform.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: I saw uh Jess Glynn perform there as well.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so quite a lot of people who were just like I mean, I remember um uh Ed Sheeran.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: We were we went out as friends to like this uh pub and he was just playing his little guitar in the pub, and I didn't even know of him.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: And it's only when he brought it up, I interviewed him recently and he brought it up there.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: He was like, Oh yeah, I remember when I was playing that, and I was like, Oh my god, I was there at the same time.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: I remember you.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: You didn't even like place it.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I didn't talk about Ed Sheeran.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it just wouldn't have felt it's just some guy with a guitar, you don't really think about it.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: So many of them, you know.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be any pub you go to.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: I know, it's mad, isn't it?
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: But um, yeah, so what else you've been up to since you come down to London?
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Like you you're only down for a few days, aren't you?
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I always block book stuff in, so like it is chocker block because I live up north and I I haven't chosen yet to move down south.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: So I think while whilst that's I don't know whether I will, but I tend to make sure that everything I when I come down, it's worth not worth not not worth coming down, but like let's just do everything.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Then I don't have to come go back up and come down again.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of course.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Sometimes I'll have like a block Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, yeah, Friday, and then come go down what uh for the weekend or whatever.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: So um and then if somebody else pays for the stay and the train down, then go to sometimes they don't though, because we haven't got the budget.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: All right, well, I'm already doing free work for you, and you haven't got the budget for a train either.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: So no.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Uh find someone else who lives closer, not four hours away.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but they want you because you're the you're the big star.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: No, I know that's the whole other thing as well, isn't it?
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: They're like, I was like, well, you haven't got the budget.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Well, then I don't know what to I don't know how to help you in this situation.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Like, find a budget for just a train, you know what I mean?
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: The bare minimum, get me a train down at least or something.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: So yeah, but you were saying like right before we were recording that you um you've been going since like 2013 or something, like while yeah, we took 2013.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: I uploaded my first ever video.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: I don't know if it's still on YouTube, I might put it back on and react to it, but it was on YouTube, and back then I wasn't as PC as I am now.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: So I I do uh I do uh live shows.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: So I've just done Come Back from Fringe, yeah.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: And um live shows are very old school Shabazz, so like that's very swearing, cussing out.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: I love insult comedy's always been my thing.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: So like I love the the idea of like taking the make out of people.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I started I started creating in 2013 and it was very different, it was a very different time.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: I remember then I was like doing uh content that was a bit more on the nose, I was very like controversial, I should say, but then I became a teacher, so then that stopped.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then I just never went back to that kind of content.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: But then I when I started the new content, it just didn't translate with the audience.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: So my YouTube just took like a pause, never really grew, and then lockdown happened, and then so in lockdown you decided to like try something new, and then yeah, with lockdown.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: I thought let me just short form, just create videos, and then it kind of thingy buttons, yeah.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: I remember 2013 to about 2015.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: I was posting pretty much every day.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, every day, pretty much like I'd post like every other day or something.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Were they like vlogs or something?
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: No, they were more like scripted videos, like you know, back in them days you did so I'm talking the era of like Chubby Bunny Challenge and like you know, uh the the whole um uh five types of friends, or yeah, you know, I mean those kind of like different types of parents, or it was all that kind of stuff, but I'd block film them so then I could just push them out.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: At least at least a minimum two, three videos a week.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: That's wild.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: I had no idea you didn't know.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: No, and I used to get like a hundred views and I loved it, like even 50 views.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: I was like, this is amazing.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: Like I can't believe like people are watching.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: I remember at the time, I remember when even when I first started posting my TikToks and like 10 people, like even like when I'd hit the first ever like 5,000 views, I was like, oh my god, this is amazing! Like, ah, then like if it ever went into like the K's or like 10K, I was like, Yay!
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah um Do you remember the video that took off?
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was the ice one.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: So I like did a I think quite a few, there's quite a few videos that had their own special moments.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: But what really started this whole thing was I'm Rich or Poor, the Ice video.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: So it's still pinned on my TikTok.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: But it's uh that was the one that sort of like started the trajectory of like where I am now.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: I think that might have been the first one that I saw.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's the one that a lot of people saw, and then there's Roy's sister Cherie one, and just some odd, like the but they be prior to that, I had a cute a couple of viral hits, yeah, but nothing like that was just odd viral hits.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, I've always said though, and this is might be slightly off topic, but I've always said you do not want to go viral.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: A lot of people really want to, but believe me, from a perspective of like marketing, branding, and making money, yeah, you don't want a viral audience because a viral audience only wants the same thing over and over.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: Whereas a community or a brand or a or a um like a family or whatever you create, whatever you want to call them, I call them a Pavo gang, like to create a community or to create a loyal following or an audience requires a lot more work than just a couple of viral moments.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Don't get me wrong, occasionally I do drop a little like viral clip because I'm like, I need to boost my ego, and it's sometimes I need to drop my ego, I'm like, oh two million views, yay.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: Um but most of the time it is based on like providing some sort of commentary or something for my community.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because I built that with them, so yeah, so that's I mean you definitely you've you're you're one of the people that I see that has like a real community around you, which is great.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: They're really loyal as well.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Like they are like the Pavel Gang have my back, they're brilliant, like they and I love them for it because they really do they're the buy the book, buy the tickets, and not only that, like just if I do something amazing, they're like, Yes, come on, like they're the ones sharing the videos, and yeah, and I've got a little group, uh, you know, on Instagram, you've got channels, yeah, yeah.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Got a little channel as well, and that's like the real loyal audience there that are like listening to everything and like promoting everything and doing, and I think that's the best thing about, but that wouldn't have come from a viral audience.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: I was viral for a long time, and it took me so long to step away from like just being the viral person, yeah, took to shift into that.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: And also a loss in views.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: So I I remember the first shift I did was going into like something else, but I remember the views dropped, and that really was like, oh my god, the views are dropped, because I got caught up in it.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: I was never a views followers kind of person until I got caught up into it.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: I got really lost into like the views and the followers, and I thought, oh damn, uh who have I become?
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: And then I stepped away and I started doing other things, you know, like I'd move into like interviews and podcasts and stuff like that.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: And that's when I and I started doing political commentary or other types of commentary, and I thought, actually, yes, the views have dropped, but eventually I'll build a stronger connection with people.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: And you're doing what you want as well, you're doing actual stuff that you enjoy as well.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: Not just like focusing on trying to get the views around it.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: Or the same got the same quote, a different version of it.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Like it's literally the same video, but different versions.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: People always say to me, like, when you can do ice videos again.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: I'm like, there are hundreds of them.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know how many more, I don't know how many more I can say.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: You can't nothing's gonna change, it's gonna be the same format, the same thing.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: So people evolve, and like if you like someone, you'll evolve with them.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like there's always gonna be a comedic element to anything I do.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but you evolve with the person and grow with them, and that's the community I want.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: So I will say to anyone that's listening and that is trying to grow their platform the biggest thing that you should look at is when you look at a video of something you've done that you're passionate about, and that 50 comments, that 20 comments, those are your audience.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: That's the one you want.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: You don't want the 5,000 comments from a viral clip.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: You want that 50 comments, that you know, that that 50 people that have took their time out to comment on something that you're passionate about.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: You know, I've reviewed a movie and they're there and they'll they're in it, and you know, I've done an advert and they're there, they're commenting.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the audience you want.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's so lovely.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because we all chase, we all chase the numbers, don't they?
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Of course we do, but like it's okay.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: We all want the viral clip, don't we?
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: But ultimately, what you really want is a loyal audience that will follow you on the journey.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: And that's what I that's what I appreciate about my own my audience from here.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: So that they they followed me over from the audio version into the video now.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like now that they're slightly forward.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: I've just I've just started the Patreon with them and everything.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: So like And they're there, aren't you?
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: They're there for you, they're there on all your journey, whatever you go and do.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: And and that's the best thing about it.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: So chasing virality and chasing like having these amazing uh clips and numbers and millions of followers is great.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but ultimately it does nothing for engagement, firstly.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: It doesn't, because those are also the people that won't come back.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: They're not gonna come back, they're not gonna buy your stuff, they're not gonna um push you out of the life you live to a different life, they're not gonna help support you on a journey.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: They might be, there might be some of them there, but then a lot of them will just unvolution because they'll be like, oh, well, I only followed because he was doing ice videos and stopped doing ice videos now, so I'm not following.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that's the reality of it, and I'm okay with that.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: For a long time I wasn't okay with that, but now I'm like, actually, you're all it's alright, it's fine.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Like, if that's not if I'm not for you anymore, that's actually.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: That's totally okay.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you've got your you've got your core fan base, and that's what you want.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: And they're they're gonna be there with you and they're gonna they're gonna follow you to whatever you do.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: I mean, there are people that like still talk about my YouTube videos and and that I meet in the streets or come to my shows and they're like, oh my god, I remember when you used to do X, Y, and Z YouTube.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, Oh, you've been a while, you've been around a while.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: That's a day one.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was like, You've been around a while.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: And those ones are like, those ones are the ones you want, isn't it?
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Because they're the ones that are coming up to you and remembering you and also have followed you on this path.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: So that's the that's amazing.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: So those are the cool ones.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: I'm like, it must feel so good when you see when you meet.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I got but also I'm kind of like, oh god, like I also cringe, you know when you cringe at your old videos, I was like, oh god, yeah, I remember those.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: They weren't very good.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: But I look at some of the tick the TikToks I made in lockdown, and I'm like, what was I doing?
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Oh god, some of the old if you could scroll down right to the bottom, if you could ever scroll down, um right to the bottom.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: Some of those videos, I'm doing those like TikTok dances and transition videos.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: Cringe, but it was I was doing like videos to like the viral sounds and stuff.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, I've done them, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: And when you like the lockdown sounds, lockdown sounds, weren't they as well?
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: So they give me like PTSD when I listen to them.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: I'm like, no, it's a very dark time.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: Um filming myself on a green screen because that's all we could at the time.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: I've done that as well, because they didn't have the green screen actually, didn't they?
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: You had to use your own green screen.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, I've done that as well, yeah.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Oh god, yeah, I've done all that.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, those were those were the days.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: Shudder, innit?
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: Shudders, uh, but yes, okay, so let's let's move on to what you came on to talk about, which is you count you've come on to defend the movie the uh so it's just actually just called Eternals.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: Yes, it's called Eternals.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: I have come on to defend it, yeah.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: So you you just like throw it straight out there, you're just like eternals.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: Yes, because I've heard so much discord around it, and I'm like Oh, there is, yeah.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: Like it's not even that bad.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: I don't know why everyone is it.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: I genuinely enjoyed it, and I don't I can't fathom what it is that people don't like about it.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: So what is your what's your history with it then?
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Do you So I am a massive comic comic book fan anyway, right?
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: Massive nerd, love comic books, love superheroes, but also love alternative superheroes.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: One thing I love is history being rewritten.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: So like I like that's why I love Doctor Who.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Doctor Who is one of those where you know where he goes back and like what you believe as history was like, no, it's not.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: Like he was there helping Pablo Picasso do it.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: He was there, and it's almost really fun because you think, ah, like the Doctor is the reason why what we have.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: So the idea of like the Eternals being historical figures in what his history has named them Athena or Icarus, and the stories that we've grown up thinking on mythology as literally was people.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: I think it's fascinating.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: That's so interesting.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like I one of one of the things I found found like really interesting what you said just now is is that you're such a fan of Doctor Who and the and the change of I was thinking the entire time watching this, this is like a high budget Doctor Who.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: It is, isn't it?
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: It's just literally that, like they literally went.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: You watch the history of like how they helped humanity.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: There's there's okay, there's plot uh holes in it, right?
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: And the links to I think what the problem we've got is um superhero fatigue.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was the that was the point we hit, I think.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, superhero fatigue, plus I think the the annoying thing that we've got is this group of people that are so loyal to superhero fandom that won't want to see walking films.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: And to them, anything outside of a w straight white male is to walk.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: So like if it's not Captain America, American red-blooded white male, yeah, then I I you know what I mean?
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: And with Wakanda, like with um uh what's it called?
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Black Panther, yeah, the black community rallied around it, which is why, and it's a good film as well.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Like there is that, but also the community rallied around it almost like it's for us.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: So I feel like I feel like Eternal's just got the backlash of like, oh, there's a deaf character in there, or there's there's a character who might be uh gay, or there's a character who is Asian, you know.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, I just think I don't know what the defense is.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Maybe they'll be I'm probably gonna get crucified for saying it, but I genuinely loved Eternals.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: I thought this is such a good film.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: How many times have you seen it?
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Do you know?
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: A lot of times.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: A lot of times.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: I love do you know what it is?
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Uh that the history aside, I love a full display of power.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: So I love like various different displays of power.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: So when I have like moments where I watch a movie where I'm like, oh my god, you get to see so I loved heroes.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you remember heroes growing up.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I remember the first series of heroes, and I remember loving it, and then like we don't talk about it because we kind of went downhill.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: But like the idea of like that's why I love the X-Men.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the X-Men are great.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Because you've got a plethora of powers, and every single person you can relate to in a very different way, and you've got just a full display of different kinds of power.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Um, and I think that's what to me is so fascinating about Eternals, but also like I also really like the X-Men, right?
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: So you know how everyone really talks about Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix as really bad movies.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: I really like them as well.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: Oh no, I'm glad you didn't pick those.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: I'm glad you didn't think Dark Phoenix at least.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: No, because I actually really like them.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: I know in the Darcalyps, I think, is fine, but like to what is in the grand scheme of things, I get it, but they're not the best.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: But but to me, it's an ex still an expansion on on the X-Men franchise.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they could have done better with Dark Phoenix, but but I think Dark Phoenix as a movie is never gonna work.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: It's just too much power.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: There's way too yeah, it's too much display.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: But that's what I think Eternal's uh problem was that if you keep them separate from the current MCU, I think it works.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: I think that's what the issue was.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I do I do think like they I think as a standalone film, if you like don't talk about it in the space of the MCU MCU, it would be it's like, yeah, this is a this is a good film, this is fun and everything, and this is interesting, but like you put it into the like you're trying to uh uh push them into the MCU in that way, and you're like, And then also that whole that oh we didn't appear we didn't do anything because of Thanos, even though Thanos was like a threat to the entirety of the universe.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: Exactly, yeah.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: But no, we didn't step in.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: But this is a problem that happened with Captain Marvel.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: So Captain Marvel is a good film, yeah.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: But the problem with it is you give her full display of this biggest of power, there's no character growth.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: No.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: Because you literally at the end of the movie, which is already set in the past, yeah, she's the strongest Avenger, or strongest superhero.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: And you go, So where is she now?
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: So where is she?
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: She's gonna have to be.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Whereas if they showed her gradual growing her powers, and the reason why she couldn't fight Thanos was because or like couldn't get involved, because she didn't have the power to do it.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Now at the end, our Infinity War comes in full screen spending power.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: You'd be like, Yes, she's here.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: But for her to be so super strong and then going, Well, I was kind of helping other people, love the whole universe about it.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: So I while we appreciate it, currently Thanos is here.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: The man that's a threat to the main threat of the universe on our planet to maybe leave the people that aren't being come orbit, you know what I mean?
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: So I think they I think Marvel do a disservice sometimes.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they shot themselves in the foot there with them.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: They do a disservice, don't they?
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: They it's this linking and multiverses and all of this, and trying to do too much fan service, but also trying to do too much linking.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can't just have a standalone movie, yeah, and it doesn't have to be because like Fantastic Four, I liked it because Fantastic Four was kind of great in its own universe.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: Yes, they might be able to come over, but in their own universe, they're the strongest people.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: They haven't had the Thanos level threat or whatever, you know, they've just been dealing with their own problems, yeah.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: And that's also an eternal thing.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Is the eternal thing is if they were just dealing with you know their universe's problem.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there were eternals on other planets, but we're just focusing on this universe's eternals.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: It just I think they went too big too quick, in it.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they did, and like this is a huge like this this is a huge cost and a huge budget.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, and such a good cast.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: Like the plethora of acting abilities in that movie.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: So it's let me I want to read the cast.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kamel Nanjani, Bri uh, Leah McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Baric Yogen, uh Don Lee Kit Harrington, Sam Mahayek, and Angelina Joly.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: Like that's that's what I think this is one also one of the issues.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: It's too big of a cast.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: No, but I think to be fair, movies work with that big of a cast in the world.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: They can do.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: Like X-Men.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, they become legends now, we're not thinking about having Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, um Halle Berry, yeah, Jackman.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, you know what I mean?
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: Having all of those actors in a film was also a big, a big I do think they do work.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Because if you think about like knives out series and stuff like that, you know, those like Merge on the Orion Express and stuff, they always tend to have like a plethora of a cast.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: But it's just again, I think it just faltered with the linking.
- 21:43unknown: Yeah.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: It's just a linking because you're kind of like like you do kind of have that moment of well, I'm sorry, but I've just spent ages going through and it came out at the wrong time.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: It came out completely the wrong time.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: If it'd come out prior to the Thanos threat and all that, then I feel like you would have.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Had like or that's what they're doing.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: But then also you could kind of bring them into the thing, but then they're also too powerful for everyday life.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: So when they came and defeated Thanos, this is a problem we're gonna have with Wonder Vision, Wonder.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Uh after prior to post Wonder Vision and post multiverse of madness, you're gonna have this problem, aren't you?
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: Because Wonder is so strong.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: Nobody can compete.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: So, like, what do you do with that?
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: What yeah.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Like after she completely annihilated, you know, uh Dr.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Xavier, yeah.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: Professor X, sorry.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: After she completely annihilated Professor X and the Fantastic Four, and uh Captain America or Captain Marvel, yeah, and uh, you know, Captain America or what you call Captain Carter.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, then she's not got much competition, is she?
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: Like she's not gonna have competition because she is so strong.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: This is what they need to do.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: As much as they want to have these really powerful beings in their universe, sometimes they need to leave them alone.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: They do, yeah.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: They need to stay in their own as it's weird to say that they stay in their own universe, but they stay in your own lane and then right.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: Give me a standalone movie on it.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: Standalone movie, exactly.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: Don't try and link it in.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: They can come into the universe eventually when you do the multiverse stuff, but like right now, it's it's too much.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: It's it's too many things at once.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: Like, if you think, have you watched Thunderbolts?
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: No, I haven't seen that yet.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: Okay, so Sentry is is incredibly Sentry is incredibly.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: I've seen the clip.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: I've seen the clip of I mean, yeah, boom, and you're gone, right?
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Just looks at you and your your your shadows.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: Then you turn you kind of have to vault his powers because otherwise he's too powerful for normal people.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: Like like having having uh Dark Phoenix or having the Phoenix uh or you know Gene Grey as the feed.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, she is powerful.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: So who is gonna be able to compete with her?
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: What do they do?
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: What do they do in the so because you're a fan of comics, what do they do in the comics to like kind of with all of those.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: I feel like in the comic books, they in the comic books it's easier because you can play around with like the power, you can play around with power and what it means.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: And also don't forget comic books, there's so many different storylines and versions happening, so they don't always necessarily link them together.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: They don't do this crossover of like MCU coming over.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: They don't net always mix them.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: I feel like in the comic books, they do still they do still class them as powerful, but um I think that's what they do because in the power in comic books they're so powerful, but they they did it well because again, they isolate them in their little pocket storyline.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: Like it's a pocket storyline.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: It's its own thing, yeah.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: It doesn't affect the rest of the the M, you know, the whole of MCU, every superhero you've ever known.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if Superman just dipped into the MCU at one point just to help out, you know.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: And one of the things they talk about in here in the in this movie is like they reference Batman and Superman.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: That feels weird for a Marvel movie.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, it's just it is I don't know.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: I I I will defend it because as a movie on its own, I think it's a good movie.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: So like, okay, do you want to are you able to this is one of my issues with the movie, but like are you able to explain the plot, the basic plot of it?
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: Do you think you do you think you could?
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: Well, um a bunch of heroes, a bunch of superpowered beings, yeah, get sent to the planet to help humanity develop.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: Because the creators of the universe the creators of the universe like to grow inside the planet once it comes to its full form.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Once humanity gets to its best, they then break out and are fully born and destroy the planet.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: And then the superpowered beings get their memory wiped and then move on to another planet.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: Actually, you did a good job.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, why not?
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: A lot of things to it's a lot, and it's it's trying to understand it and also like trying to remember all of their names and like trying to do it.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: Like it's the I'm I'm like I remember Athena and Icarus because yeah, mythology.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, mythology, but I mean I can't remember some of the other names.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: There's I I I had to write them all down because it's like um I probably could if I thought about it.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: You got I mean Gemma Chan, do you remember her name in it?
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: Um she's kind of the lead in it.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: No.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: No?
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Cersei.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Cersei, yeah.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, so I should have remembered that one.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: Richard Madison's Icarus.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: Icarus, and then you've got Kamale is Kingo.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: Kingo.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: Baricy organ's character I don't remember his name.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: Druig?
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: Druig?
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't have remembered that.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: No, Druig, yeah, yeah.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: And then the You got Gilgamesh.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Gilgamesh.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: Ajak.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: What's the little uh the little the young one?
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: Uh Sprite.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Sprite.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Sprite.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: But even Sprite, like, that's a mythological It is good.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, anyway, I can't keep defending it.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: It's you know, there's gonna be people who absolutely murder me in the comments.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: No, it's not it is what it is.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: Like are you like you enjoy the movie?
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: Like what what is your so like do other than like um other than what you've said already, like what is w what do you love about the movie other other than like the the aspect of of like uh the world building and and the powers and I think it's I also think like individual stories as well, like I think like the journey of individual characters, it's really hard to do that in a movie with that many characters.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: It's very hard.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: But I do feel like they did they did give some justice to some of them, yeah.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: Some growth.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: Um, but again, it is I think that's where they do falter because you've got so many characters, you're not really gonna be able to see a lot of character development in all of them.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: No, um, so you're gonna see a central storyline centered around one or two of them.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: You have to, you have to.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: And then the other ones are sort of just then become side characters, even though they are not meant to be.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: But then your storyline clearly is not in.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: I think as a TV show, it might have worked.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: This is what I've been reading as well.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: People have been saying it would have worked as like a 10-part TV show.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: Yes, because I think you could have given each person an episode and their backstory and their central struggle, yeah, and then linked them back together as like how they are where they are, because then it really gets you, really get the meat of uh which is why I prefer series over movies now.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: Oh I do prefer series over movies.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: I think you've got a time to I mean, not current the way they do it, like I I can't deal with this.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: Take three years to give me an eight-episode series, you know what I mean?
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: And then split it into two parts Wednesday, Netflix.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Um but the fact is, like it we I'm uh I'm of a generation of 22 episodes a season.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, me too.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: You could really, really, really understand the character.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: I do think sometimes in there.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: The killer ones are so good because you really got to see a different side of the character, and you really felt for these people when that season finale happened and they killed someone off, or when the season finale happened and someone has something happen to them, you would feel it because you spent an entire 22 episodes in that season getting to know them.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: So in 10 episodes, I'm sorry, I just barely know you, and sometimes I don't care enough.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: I just want it to end now.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: Now, some of them are like six episodes.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: That's bad, isn't it?
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Well, what are you doing with six episodes?
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: How are we supposed to get anything out?
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like you get uh a story, they they start with it being like big story, big cliffhanger.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: Episode two starts to recover, episode three, it's you get a bit more.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Episode four is solved, episode five is a wrap-up, episode six, it's uh live a cliffhanger for next season.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: Did you see Ironheart?
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: I didn't finish it.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: I watched the first two episodes.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: But like they burned it out, they burned it over two weeks.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, did they?
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: They did three and three.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: Well, that's like they're just like, but this is the problem again with this binge watching culture, is you've lost the ability to sit and discuss.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: Like, imagine you had a film and TV podcast.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: You're losing the nuances of certain episodes which are filmed like that.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: They're just not shown like that.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: So, like, I will talk about Wednesday, for example.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: Wednesday wasn't meant to be split into two parts.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: So then what you've done is you've kind of left it as a cliffhanger, and then in between, given as a trailer which spoils because you should have just given us one trailer at the beginning, would have watched uh all the episodes.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: Plus, every week, that end episode, you can sit back and talk about it.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: Tell you who did it really well, Paradise on Disney Plus.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: Yes, that was great for that.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: Every week you sit down, wonder what the future is, wonder what's gonna happen, you discuss it.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: Doctor Who, for example, every week you're discussing it, you're sitting back, you're talking to your family, you're talking to your friends, you've got a community built around it.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: Where it failed was the residence failed for that.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: So the residence of Netflix, if you if Netflix, if you watch it, that failed because it was a full thing.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: So each episode didn't have discussion.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: There's so many tidbits of uh bits that you've missed.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: Because you're now I'm talking to you about residence, I'm talking to you about as a whole.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: I'm not talking to about individual moments where there were great moments because we've lost that because we've watched it all in one sitting, haven't we?
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: So I sat down with like my partner and I, we were watching Paradise, and I would talk, I would talk to her and I'd be like, What do you think's gonna happen?
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: Like I'd be messaging her, like, what are you actually thinking about?
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: I did that with my friends, and it was so fun because it felt like old times.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: We were like, oh, cannot wait for next time.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: Getting up on theories about it and Easter eggs or watching it.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: Wonder what's gonna happen.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: Wonder Vision was like that.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: Wonder Vision was great.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: I was so good for that because that's what happened.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: Like, everyone sat back and was like, What's going on?
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: Like the first episode, what do you mean?
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: It's black and white.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: What do you like?
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: What or did you see the end bit where she did, and that's the the bit that you so movie producers and movie companies need to uh TV companies need to understand that that's where the the conversations are.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: I know you want to throw it out in one week, but binge watching culture is kind of ruining film and TV.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: It is, yeah.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm really impatient.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: So, like, luckily, I work with Netflix now, so they give me all of the episodes in advance.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, even though I'm saying it, but I also do love the discussions around it.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: Exactly, yeah.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: So I like see, like, I've been watching The House of Guinness, which is coming out on the 25th.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I saw you post and you were saying it's really good.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: God, honestly, so I'm excited to see it.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: But again, it's gonna be such a big drop that I think I've all at once, it's all in once.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: Okay, but I've watched it because I've been busy, I've been watching an episode and then I've left and watched an episode, and I'm telling you, like, it plays on like not plays on you in the in the sense that it's so powerful, but it's like, oh, that's a good episode.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: And it would be things that you'd want to discuss.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: But with it all being dropped, I know the in-between nuances will get missed where like the in-between certain moments and the character's feelings or development, it just you lose it because you're overall just looking at the entire storyline as one plot point.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: Um, sorry, I got really in depth in that.
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: No, it's great.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: I find that sorry, I find it really interesting, and I completely agree with you about all of that as well.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: It's like that's exactly how I'm feeling about the general state of the industry at the moment.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: I'm like, please just go back to like episode by episode and like just give just give us a 22-episode season, break it up one a week.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: Even if you wanted to do like this block give us episodes, then but then have these seasons longer.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: Like having an eight-episode season, I mean honestly, like I I as much as I work for Net with Netflix and I love them, but that is mugging me off.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: Like, you do you um um what's that other one that's on Amazon Prime?
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: Um, The Summer I Turned Pretty.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: I've never watched it.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, I've not seen it either, but yeah, they're breaking that up constantly.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: Wow, they broke that up, and I'm like, is it really that deep that you need to break it up?
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: Like, just all give us weekly episodes and then we will still have the excitement.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: Literally.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: The thing is, I will say it's because streaming people like um was it subscribe and then unsubscribe?
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: So they want to retain.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: Which, if you think about it, they'll retain out in August, came out in September, so they've got two months of streaming.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: Um but think about if you broke it up w week by week, how many more weeks?
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, but yeah, exactly.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: If you give us 22 episodes, you've got a lot of time that people are going to be subscribing to.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: Drop it at the drop it the last week of August, first week of September across.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: I think it's I think the problem we've got is because of I think the last sort of the strikes, you know, the writer strike, writer strike.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: I think that's what sort of put everyone on the back pedal, which is why there's a lot of film book to series, yeah, or book to film stuff happening, because well the work's already there.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: So we don't we can just be a bit lazy and just be like, oh, here's a here's the screen thingy, uh, here's a book, the source, screenplay it and done, where there's it coming up with the new inventive ideas, which I think Hollywood is running out of because we are doing a lot of re remakes and prequels and sequels.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: But then I do think we're in that era because of the production, yeah, like the time where we didn't have a lot of movies.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: Now we're moving into this, just smash out films because we need the money in it, like just get out like Freakier Friday, or or just throw us another Jurassic Park movie or whatever, just to quickly get just whatever the buns in seats in it.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: That's why like Timothy Chalamet is in every movie, is because they like you know he brings in uh tickets.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, there's like there's so few of those people now as well.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: That's the other thing.
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: Like the movie star, it it like the the movie star bringing like the audience going to see the star instead of the movie now is dead.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: So true.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: That's gone.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: Like whereas like the 90s, early 2000s, like that I grew up on Bollywood, so you imagine for us, like if it wasn't if it was a Sharukal movie, or we went to watch it, regardless.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: That man could sit in that screen and talk, exactly, talk for an three-hour movie, and we'd still go, Oh my god, let's go watch it.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: So we watched it for the stars.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: But I guess now we're watching it to see whether.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: But also I will say, like, on a slight side note, the industry.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: So I just did press stuff today, right?
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: Yesterday for the girlfriend.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: Um and I will say, so as a creator, so I'm gonna this video's probably gonna come out after I've already said this, but I um publicists and agents and people that work with celebrities or work in the industry haven't quite caught on that that we are what's driving the publicity for it.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: Because to no disrespect to traditional media, but we're not really reading newspapers for reviews or reading, are we really?
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: No.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: When was the last time you picked up a magazine or newspaper to check a review for a movie?
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: What you do when you type it in TikTok and see what everyone's saying about it.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you've seen what other people are what people I actually trust and like your movie reviewers, your film reviewers who are who who are genuine that you know, I I know the sort of like Theories by Tea is my favourite because he does all the Marvel stuff, but like so many people I'll go on their page and be like, if they liked it, or they've broken it down, I'm probably gonna like it.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: People do that with me, the you know, the I have my little uh channel, and everyone's like, if you liked it, it's probably gonna be my cup of tea.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: Um, but then we're not treated with that same level of respect.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: No, there was an agent who brought their um client to me, and obviously, bear in mind I've got like traditional media, the Metro, Hello Magazine, and all these other traditional uh things up and down the line.
- 36:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they took them to every single one of them, and they were there for ages answering questions, doing the press and stuff, brought to me, whispered in their ear, and then dragged them away from like literally I asked one question and they just sort of took them away.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: And I was almost like, you don't value that I could bring this so much more publicity because I'm not just saying just for my following alone, I'm saying the access that you have for this video has much bigger reach.
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: It's such a bigger reach, and they don't still don't realise that.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: Like all they gotta do is look at the the uh the metrics of their like views on their website or something like that, and you'll see it's such a different but they take them all the way to because they haven't caught up, they haven't caught up.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: A lot of companies have caught up.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: Netflix are brilliant for it, and they make them on the payroll, they genuinely are so good for it, they are so smart with how they strategically align creators and they really push the marketing.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: Like I went all the way to Sweden to go watch something be filmed, but they took me there, they were like, film whatever content you want.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: Here's four hours, do what you want in that.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Four hours?
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: I don't think I've ever been afforded that luxury.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: They were like, four hours, do what you want.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: If you want to, here's this thing, here's this set, yeah, open doors, do what you want, film what you want.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go and do East Enders now later on.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: And they were the same.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: They were like, the set's yours, you got an hour, two hours, just wander about, do what you want within reason.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: Obviously, don't start talking about Carnation Street on East Enders, but like, or don't start saying East Enders isn't good.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: But like within reason, just go and do what you want, and that's because they understand these that are driving us, that are driving the publicity to our shows.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: But some of them just aren't getting that.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: Like at the end of the day, your your client having a funny clip or a funny viral moment means your show and your client literally is boosted them.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: Literally, like it's I wish they would understand.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: But they don't, they they they're very much like, oh, but that's never take them over to the creator, you know what I mean?
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: This is what's worked, so this was what always works.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: And they're like, no, you have to adapt with the about an article in The Guardian.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: Who's looking at that?
- 38:18SPEAKER_00: It's the same, it's the same with like what you were just at the fringe.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: So like it's the same with with the reviews there.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: It's like that that whole thing has changed now.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: The whole system of the fringe has changed.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: And like I had zero reviewers in my show.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: I had them banned.
- 38:29SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: I was like, You don't need it.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: I don't need them.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: You don't either like I don't need you to come.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: And like I, with all due respect, it's not for you.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: It doesn't, yeah, exactly.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: The show was for my followers and the show was for the Pavo Gang.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: Like, I literally called it I'm Rich or Poor.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm in a blanket on the on the thing.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm holding ice cubes.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: It is a very in-joke kind of show.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: So like I was like, I know my a lot will show up, and yeah, if they bring their friends or it goes outside, that's perfect.
- 38:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I don't need reviewers coming in going, it's not for me, it's not the it was not for you.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: So I had a review by The Guardian, and they said about my show that it doesn't translate from screen to stage, but then also I'm selling out um and people are coming to watch it and repeatedly watching it, so maybe it does, maybe it doesn't for you.
- 39:11SPEAKER_01: But also, he wanted a ticket to the show and I said no, yeah.
- 39:14SPEAKER_01: So then he had to pay for one.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: So it was like I'm gonna review bomb it, but I don't really care.
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: Like, I never made it for you.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: It makes sense.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: I know the thing is when you type my name in, it's the first article that comes up on Google, but it's it's not a problem.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: I really don't care, but yeah, um anyway, back to it.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I yeah, I think with traditional media is is it has its own space, yeah, you know, but it is slowly decline to non-traditional media, yeah.
- 39:36SPEAKER_01: Um but you still don't give us the level of respect that we deserve.
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: No, that's I I find that infuriating when I see that as well.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: I'm like, this is not and we're not allowed to talk about it.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: No, so we can't talk about it because then that stops you maybe from getting work in the future.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: Me, I'm careless.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: I'll do it.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: I made a video about it.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: I'm just putting subtitles on it to put it out, it'll come out today, probably after this podcast, but we'll see it.
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: Um but it because I'll be honest with you, it's it's it's disrespectful to other creators as well.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: I'm not speaking on just my behalf, I will always have my other creators' backs.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: Like I so, you know, when it comes to like film reviews and that, you know, I do press junkets and stuff, I will decline them because if it's not a movie that aligns with me or my core audience, I'll say no because I'm not passionate about it.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I'm not taking it because I'm also taking food off someone else's table.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm not that person that will ever take food off someone else's table to further myself because ultimately, like Formula One, I was meant to do press junkets for it.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: I'm not into Formula One.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: I don't think I've got it.
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: What are you gonna talk about?
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't even care.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: The passion will be gone and the the audience will feel it.
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: And then you're just gonna lose that.
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: And they don't connect with it.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: My audience don't connect with Formula One.
- 40:42SPEAKER_00: They're gonna be like, what are you doing that for?
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: Um, but then also I will have done it because what I got to interview Brad Pitt, but then ultimately what I've done is somebody who's genuinely passionate about it, I've taken it from them.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: So I love Marvel films, so when I don't get to do a press junket, but then I see somebody do a press junket who's done zero to little prep work for it, yeah, probably not even, doesn't even care, hasn't even seen any of the films, could not care less, but is doing it for because for publicity.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: I'm like, well, that's not really fair because I could have done that and I would have loved it.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: Equally, I might have done something and somebody might have thought that about me, but I know that I will only ever take on projects I'm true, truly passionate about.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: One thing I have had to do is there's a lot of stuff that I'm like, I don't watch, don't like, don't care about.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: I've had to take a step back and go, it's not just me, it's the audience.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: So like I might not like a certain show, but my very female-led audience would love that show.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: So maybe I need to do this.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: So there's also that that you know, that joke supposition where you're like, oh, okay, maybe I do need to be a bit more like, okay, I'll watch it.
- 41:40SPEAKER_00: Um okay, so let's let's uh finish up talking about the movie and then we'll get into the final section.
- 41:46SPEAKER_00: Oh, actually, we've got a little bit of time still.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, so the movie itself, do you know what do you know what it's rated?
- 41:51SPEAKER_00: Do you know what the Rotten Tomatoes is?
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: Oh I know because it's at the bottom end, isn't it?
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: It's not it's not at the bottom end, it's not right at the bottom end, but it's sort of like not rated like no uh Spider-Man homecoming or knowing home.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's not that high.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: But it also is not that kind of movie as well.
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: Like I love that film and I think that is brilliant.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: I'd know Eternals isn't as good as that.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: It's the first, I will say, it was the first, I believe it was, yeah.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: I think it was the first rotten uh Marvel universe.
- 42:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:22SPEAKER_00: So it's 47%.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: Rotten.
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: So it's for 47% is is it's not great, but it's not like the worst it's not like the worst it could be.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because what's what's the marvels?
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: The marvel I I think that was also That's a that's a that one's got a low one in it.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it did.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: Oh, and that's 63.
- 42:45SPEAKER_00: Fresh or Yeah, yeah, it's fresh.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: Six 16 above is fresh.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: So the V didn't like Marvel, uh, Eternals then, isn't it?
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so Eternal, I think it was Eternals, and then I think it might have been Ant-Man.
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: Thor Quantumania.
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: Or Thor Love and Thunder.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: And yeah, those were the three.
- 43:02SPEAKER_00: I think those are they they might be the three that are like Yeah, okay, yeah.
- 43:06SPEAKER_00: Ant Man, Quantumania and Love and Thunder are way worse than this.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, I also did not think Quantumania was that bad.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: I must have a really I really didn't like Quantumania.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: And I love Ant Man.
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was a very convoluted sort of like you're doing a bit too much here.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: And I thought Love and Th I thought Love and Thunder was just not needed.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: No, I think it was.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: I found it exhausting.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: What's your most what's your highest rated Marvel film then?
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: Mine.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: Probably Black Panther, I'd say.
- 43:36SPEAKER_01: Black Panther, yeah, I'd agree.
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: I think that's quite Black Panther or Rewatch.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: Um the first half of the yeah.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh god, that's such a good film, isn't it?
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: I think uh the newest Spider Man film's probably up there for me as well.
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: It's really good, yeah.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: I love the I love the crossover.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I love the opening of the multiverse of like a little bit.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: It made me so happy.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: I know, just seeing.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Tommy Maguire and uh Andrew Garfield and be like um yeah I also really liked only because I love a back a throwback yeah so I liked Deadpool and Wolverine because I'm a really good and like you know all of that yeah and like I said like nostalgic moments of like your childhood like seeing um seeing Johnny Storm as you know I mean and all that the idea of all that's just so dope um but also I also really liked I also really liked uh Multiverse Madness I did or its own thing if you don't link it to like Wonder Vision because exactly what they did to Wander's character was just shocking.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but to link it in its own right and to like see another universe where your favourites are different people and uh you know all of that.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah I will say Captain Carter, they've gotta let go.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: They reached it I know I don't know why they keep bringing it back.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: You try to make it happen, stop bringing it back.
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: The people don't want it.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: I love how this has just turned into a Marvel podcast and it's obviously, but yeah, I do love I love a superhero movie.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: I haven't got fatigue from it.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: You haven't you still haven't got fatigue.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: I want more oh no, I definitely hit fatigue around this point.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: Around the Eternals I uh uh I was like I can't I just can't.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: I think Infinity War, the Infinite like as in Endgame was so strong that I think you were gonna come back very tough.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: It was gonna be a tough battle to come back from that.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: And wasn't it wasn't the first one after wasn't that wasn't it Spider-Man?
- 45:31SPEAKER_00: It was the Spider-Man one that was after right after it, wasn't it?
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: What the Mul the No, wasn't it Eternals that came after it?
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: It's what was it that or was it because I feel like after it finished No, it was Captain Most.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: Far From Home.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: Far From Home.
- 45:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it came out Far From Home was it.
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: It only came out like a couple of months after Endgame as well.
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: What I didn't I don't remember it coming out so soon after.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: After Endgame?
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it came out like three months after.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: But I feel like um Far From Home ha wasn't linked, was it?
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: No, well kind of, but like not.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: What was Far From Home?
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: Was that the one where It was the one with Jake Gyllenhaal?
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: Where they come back, yeah.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I feel like it was a link, but it was a nicer sort of like It was, yeah.
- 46:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it didn't have a big massive jump.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: What was after that?
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: Black Widow.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: Well that got panned as well, didn't it?
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: Because how are you gonna kill her and then bring her back?
- 46:20SPEAKER_01: It was a good movie, but maybe earlier.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: You just brought it out after she's already dead, and then you've gone, oh, this is her backstory.
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: Why not just give her that a couple of months earlier?
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: Like it just came out the wrong time.
- 46:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then and then Shang-Chi, which is a great film.
- 46:32SPEAKER_00: That's a good film as well.
- 46:33SPEAKER_00: I love Shang-Chi.
- 46:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I'm gonna go.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: Where was Shang-Chi during the Avengers and all that stuff?
- 46:37SPEAKER_00: He was I think he wasn't he blipped, yeah.
- 46:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, he wasn't Shang-Chi.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think he was like finding him.
- 46:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, he wasn't, yeah, he was just working in there.
- 46:46SPEAKER_00: And then it was Eternals.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: So I get it.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: I get it.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: Because you've got a lot of standalone stuff.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: Like you've got so although Spider-Man is a thing, it's kind of standalone.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: He's this aftermath of like.
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: And he's also like an established character that everyone loves.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: But it wasn't it was a nice sort of aftermath on like, oh I don't wonder what happened.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: And it's kind of like I want the it was kind of needed, yeah.
- 47:07SPEAKER_01: Because you kind of wanted to see a different side of it.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: And I think even like Black Widow should just be moved there, and Eternals should have been moved earlier as well.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: And then I think it would have been okay.
- 47:16SPEAKER_00: Well, Eternals was supposed to come out a lot earlier, was what I was reading as well.
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: Like, and then it got postponed because of everything that happened, but like it's uh where did I read this?
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: It was what did it say here?
- 47:29SPEAKER_00: Uh when was it originally scheduled for release?
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: Like a almost a year before.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, see, that's where that's where the problem was.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it got message from like there's so much there's so much trivia on this movie as well.
- 47:45SPEAKER_00: I can't even find it.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: It doesn't like but the point is it was it was scheduled to come out a lot earlier than it did, and it did, and then it got pushed because of COVID and because of like I think like the order of the the Marvel universe where they were like, oh we need to move this around and then Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: I I think that really affected it.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what it is, is they yeah, after Infinity War, I think they lost their sort of uh after Endgame, sorry, I think they lost their sort of like balance on like I think they got also got complacent because I think they thought we'll see anything.
- 48:15SPEAKER_01: We'll do anything, we marvel, we'll be fine.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, MCU will just throw out movies left, right, and centre, and it'll be fine.
- 48:20SPEAKER_00: Well, I th I think this is one of the problems as well, is what they do is that they always at the end of each film they always set up for some big thing to happen.
- 48:28SPEAKER_00: And you know, this one sets up such a big event.
- 48:32SPEAKER_00: Like that they set up Thor's brother, not Thor's brother, Thanos' brother coming into the universe, Harry Styles.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: No, poor Harry Styles didn't even come back.
- 48:41SPEAKER_00: Like, bye.
- 48:42SPEAKER_00: And they did that, and then they did that with Brett Goldstein with with he's supposed to be um uh oh god, who's he even supposed to be?
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: Hercules.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: It's so dumb though, because I think they did a lot of, but again, it's too much linking, yeah, too much back and forth.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: Like sometimes I don't need you to do that.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: I just need you just to just just do them a film and just we don't need a big, massive, multiversal that's why Thunderbolts was good, good because I think it was a breath of fresh air.
- 49:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like Thunderbolts was like in its own right, just let's just deal with that immediate threat.
- 49:12SPEAKER_00: That's what I've heard about it, which is like what everyone says.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: We're just dealing with our immediate threat.
- 49:16SPEAKER_01: No universe is ripping open, we don't need to be flying into space.
- 49:19SPEAKER_01: We're just we've got kind of issues on our planet that we just gotta deal with, which is what superhero movies used to be.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, look if you think back to the old Spider-Man movies or the X-Men things, X-Men movies, we were just dealing with the problems right now, wouldn't it?
- 49:30SPEAKER_01: Those are the most fun, yeah.
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: Those are the best movies.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: We've got some bad guys on our planet.
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: Let's just deal with that problem instead of like drive flying to another universe.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then also the mar Captain Marvel with this idea of like to jump into universes like it's nothing.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 49:45SPEAKER_01: I think that's they're doing too much, they're doing too much.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're definitely doing too much.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: And like I think that I think that's what I I know that this these new ones are supposed to like be the end of the multiverse saga.
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: Because like that they just know that but now like why bring back and this is the other issue I had.
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: Why why are you bringing back Robert Downey Jr.?
- 50:03SPEAKER_01: Oh that one that annoys me.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: That annoys me because I think you I think you have I think they've done they could have opened the door up for another kind actor, another legendary actor to come in.
- 50:13SPEAKER_01: There are hundreds of actors.
- 50:15SPEAKER_00: Giancarlo Esposito was was rumored for it for years.
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: So many people that could have just dropped into that role and done a really wonderful job.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:24SPEAKER_01: Um, but then you were like, no, we'll just bring that Rob Robert Downey Jr.
- 50:28SPEAKER_01: And everyone's like, hey, but then but then I'm not excited for the future.
- 50:33SPEAKER_01: I'll watch them because I'll watch them, because I am gonna watch them, but I'm not it's not it doesn't make me excited anymore.
- 50:39SPEAKER_01: Like I'm not looking forward to doomsday.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: I'm not, I'm not sure.
- 50:42SPEAKER_01: Also, Doomsday, you you the chair thing was the dumbest thing you could ever do.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: How are you you're so stupid for me to give me all the people that are coming back?
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: So you know at any point in Thunderbolts, I'm sorry, I know none of you are dying because you're you're on the chair.
- 50:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 50:57SPEAKER_01: Like, and also like Fantastic Four.
- 50:59SPEAKER_01: I wanted the Fantastic Four at the end for a failure.
- 51:03SPEAKER_01: We need to see our superheroes fail, we need to see them be human and fail, right?
- 51:07SPEAKER_01: And also just mess up.
- 51:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we don't do that anymore because they don't want to do that.
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: Like uh third at the end of Fantastic Four, I genuinely hoped, because I saw the theories online that their planet was gonna get destroyed, and that's why they were had to go somewhere else.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: We messed up, we need your help, rather than we just threw one of the most powerful people, we pushed him into a black hole.
- 51:31SPEAKER_01: We pushed him into a black hole, like oh god, it's it's frustrating.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: Like I think this is gonna be their downfall.
- 51:39SPEAKER_00: I do think this, I do I do think I don't know, I can see it, I can see the trajectory.
- 51:45SPEAKER_00: And and then like you can also see where I I know that Superman didn't do extremely well.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: It was a fantastic movie though, but exactly.
- 51:54SPEAKER_00: But uh people loved it, and that's the thing.
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: People loved it, and people like this is a this is a breath of fresh air.
- 51:59SPEAKER_00: This is actually this feels like a comic book, and this feels like you know, this is something we want it, this is something we were begging for.
- 52:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we just want comic book, and we also want to just deal with the immediate problems.
- 52:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just deal with the immediate problems.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: Superman, Lex Luther, that's always been the thing, right?
- 52:13SPEAKER_01: Yes, there's a few other monsters and all that in in the world.
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: But that's the same with any other old old film.
- 52:18SPEAKER_01: But let's just have your problem is another human, you know.
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, a bad guy.
- 52:23SPEAKER_01: Let's just have a badie that is thinking we don't need to have these big, giant like Doomsday.
- 52:28SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be so overambitious.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: It's gonna go it's gonna be um.
- 52:32SPEAKER_00: Everyone's gonna get like three seconds of screen time.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: The amount of chairs there were, like the fact that they they teased like Rebecca Romain coming back, I was so annoyed.
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: And like all the characters that we grew up on, like you're just you're telling us they're coming back.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: Like, why tell us they're coming back?
- 52:46SPEAKER_01: Just let us see them in the thingy was really fun for that moment.
- 52:49SPEAKER_01: Like in the cinema, I was there during the premiere for um Deadpool was the.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, right, but they did it during that point.
- 52:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and when we found out when Electra came and that you saw um uh who's the guy that played Blade again?
- 53:00SPEAKER_00: Uh West East.
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: When you saw him come up, everybody was loo.
- 53:05SPEAKER_01: And then when Gambit came, everybody lost their mind, and you the cinema was like, What?
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: We I'm not gonna be like that because I already know they're in it.
- 53:13SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: Um and then like, oh, but there's still more to come.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, well now we know that like we we also we can also piece together who are the other.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like, oh yeah, but we haven't teased any of the other X-Men yet, they're all gonna be in there.
- 53:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you've literally gonna for the last 20 or 34 years of any character of any film that you've made are all gonna be in Doomsday.
- 53:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, literally.
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: I'm not all that excited about it.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: And but this is the other thing as well, is like they've uh so you mentioned uh Wesley's nights, this blade and everything.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: The end of this movie, they tease the new blade, uh Maherschal Ali.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: What has happened?
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: It's panned, isn't it?
- 53:47SPEAKER_01: It's just been shelved.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: What is going on?
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: But how hard is it to make that movie?
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: Like, it's so easy, and then and then it became Sinners.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:55SPEAKER_00: It just became into it turned into Sinners.
- 53:56SPEAKER_00: That's the screen.
- 53:57SPEAKER_00: Apparently it's like that's the screen.
- 53:58SPEAKER_00: Is that what was the screen?
- 53:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was what it was gonna be, and it's turned into Sinners.
- 54:01SPEAKER_00: Uh and look how great that was, and look how well loved that was.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: And like well, you've just oh yeah, because they could have literally just been Blade.
- 54:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:09SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter.
- 54:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:13SPEAKER_01: Uh damn.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: It would have been so fun.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: And yeah, well, this is a idea.
- 54:20SPEAKER_00: They don't want to make the you know, the 18 rated Marvel movie.
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: That's all it is now.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: Well, at this point, you ain't gonna make any money money, are you?
- 54:27SPEAKER_01: If if we curry and if carry on going down the trajectory, they're I just don't think I just think superhero now I'm at superhero fatigue.
- 54:34SPEAKER_01: Now I'll watch them for the sake of watching them.
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: But there's so many I just miss, and I just watch the theories online afterwards.
- 54:39SPEAKER_01: I'm like, yeah, I'll just l wait till somebody breaks it down for me.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:42SPEAKER_01: Um I mean there was Ironheart.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: I feel bad for Ironheart because it is the wee, great character, you know, so much for to have a character that you can put so much behind, but just come out at the wrong time.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, people are exhausted with the whole, you know, the storyline that we're now just like, okay, I'm just gonna wait for Doomsday.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: Anything in between.
- 55:02SPEAKER_01: I mean there's another Spider-Man movie coming.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there is before the Doomsday, isn't it?
- 55:06SPEAKER_00: Is it before?
- 55:07SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: No, there is, yeah, there's a Spider-Man movie coming before Doomsday.
- 55:12SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think so.
- 55:14SPEAKER_01: I from what I've heard.
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: And again, I know that they're all back.
- 55:18SPEAKER_01: So again, like what in Spider-Man what's gonna happen because they're all back anyway.
- 55:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so like well the e the end of the the last one is just yeah, you know, you just got rid of that.
- 55:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and even like Fantastic Four, like when when in the end of Fantastic Four, spoiler if you've not seen it, but it's been outlaws long enough for you to see it, so it's your own fault.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: When um um Sue Storm died, I was like, she's not dead.
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: Of course she's not dead.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: Rolled my eyes when they were all crying, I was like, Yeah, you've lost you've literally told us she's in the next movie, so I don't care.
- 55:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:49SPEAKER_01: Just wake up already.
- 55:51SPEAKER_01: Like if I could fast forward in the cinema, I would have fast forwarded it.
- 55:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:54SPEAKER_01: Because I was like, I really this isn't emotional enough for me.
- 55:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:57SPEAKER_01: Because you've just done that.
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 55:59SPEAKER_01: Like taken away.
- 56:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they they take away they're taking away any uh excitement for what's to come.
- 56:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:06SPEAKER_01: And I'm hoping that next year there's you know, because it's not until it's there's a year in it.
- 56:11SPEAKER_01: There's a while yet.
- 56:12SPEAKER_00: I think so, but I think they finished filming it.
- 56:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, have they only just finished filming it?
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: I think they finished filming it.
- 56:16SPEAKER_01: But that's what I mean.
- 56:17SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm hoping that I'm hoping that 12 months or 13 months before it comes out, 14 months before it starts getting like all comes out or starts getting teased or whatever, we are left the superhero thing alone for a bit, and we're kinda like, oh yeah, okay, let's uh get excited again for a film.
- 56:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just stop releasing them so close together.
- 56:39SPEAKER_00: Greedy in it, money.
- 56:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's so greedy.
- 56:42SPEAKER_00: But yeah, like just uh to wrap up on this film, like you so yeah, it's you've got the world's longest podcast.
- 56:48SPEAKER_00: We've literally broken down all of uh I apologize.
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: That's exactly what I want.
- 56:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 56:53SPEAKER_01: I love filming TV, so it's always really fun when I get it.
- 56:55SPEAKER_00: This is also why I wanted to ask you on.
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: Like, this is like this is what I want.
- 56:59SPEAKER_01: Anytime, anytime coming back.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: Obviously, we could go break down movies and film.
- 57:03SPEAKER_00: I love what I talk about films, but anyway, you're saying um, yeah, so it's but the audience score is 77%.
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: So the audience did like it.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: Who is it that didn't?
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: The reviewers, the reviewers, yeah, and again, who cares?
- 57:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and also who are the reviewers?
- 57:17SPEAKER_01: No offense, but old white men.
- 57:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's gonna be that in it.
- 57:20SPEAKER_01: Like, and I mean that in the most respectful way possible, but that's the truth.
- 57:25SPEAKER_01: That is not representing them.
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: If they can't see themselves in the movie, they're like, I can't be that hero.
- 57:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm sorry, we grew up.
- 57:33SPEAKER_01: I'm like a South Asian man.
- 57:35SPEAKER_01: I grew up watching all white people on screen, and I could still relate to them.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: I don't understand why you can't relate to our stories or our struggles, you know what I mean?
- 57:41SPEAKER_01: You just can't seem to see yourself in our struggles.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: Um I mean this is the other thing.
- 57:47SPEAKER_00: Like I think like Kamale in this, I think he's I this is I love Kamel now and Johnny.
- 57:56SPEAKER_00: I don't think he's the greatest greatest in this.
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: He's not at all.
- 58:00SPEAKER_01: I just don't think and also for for the love of God, we don't all have an accent.
- 58:05SPEAKER_01: Like, for just let it go.
- 58:06SPEAKER_01: Let let the the the accent and the I mean the whole scene with him becoming a Bollywood star and all that.
- 58:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, that was annoying.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: Really rubbed, it really rubbed me the wrong way because it's like we Asians, South Asians in movies just can't be normal people, like and like we've never had a South Asian like Kamala Khan, although she is good, there's so much centered around her struggle and like her her identity, and we can't just she can't just be a normal girl.
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: Like it was good.
- 58:34SPEAKER_01: I would really appreciate having a representation like that, but it's never it's never just normal.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like her her whole struggle.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: I mean Kamala's whole struggle is that anyway, from the comic books.
- 58:46SPEAKER_00: But like we could she was written like it was like ri it was a recent thing that was.
- 58:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:51SPEAKER_01: Written for that, but yeah, I don't know.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: I I just didn't like the stereotypical Kamal's character was just I do find it frustrating.
- 58:58SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I just want to see them as as as superheroes and like they, you know, they just be who they want to be.
- 59:06SPEAKER_01: They just need to be they don't have to be.
- 59:07SPEAKER_01: But I think in film in general, though, film in general, like if you ever see uh a Muslim or a South Asian character presented, there's always got to be this like struggle backstory.
- 59:17SPEAKER_01: I went to when I was at Fringe, right?
- 59:18SPEAKER_01: It's my slightly go off topic, but we were at when I was at Fringe, I watched um Um Zainab Johnson, uh who's a black American comedian, and she spoke about there's one bit in her set where she talks about like her moving to the new house, and she's got this um um opossum, opossum, whatever it's called, that is like running riot or whatever, and she talks about him and she's like, I named him um I can't remember what she named him, Eugene, and she's like, me and Eugene, and all the story, and we were all like really buying it, and she went, What's really interesting is like when it comes to like a non like a white comedian, they can stand on stage and just talk about horse for an hour, and everyone like applauds it.
- 59:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but when it comes to like black, especially because she was a black female Muslim, they were like, but where's your black female Muslim struggle?
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: It's like can you not stand on stage and talk about black female Muslim struggles for an hour?
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_01: Well, no, like I didn't do my my show, doesn't it has like Asianisms, like I do take it.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_01: Because that's still part of your personality, that's still part of who you are.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: But it's not who I am, just uh uh it's not the only part of you, yes, exclusively who I am.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: So like I but yeah.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: And then a lot of the people that watch it will be like, oh my god, you should totally lean more into the Asian stuff, but I'm like, oh, but I also have so many other stories.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_01: Like I was a teacher, I worked in a morgue, I uh you know, have so many other stories to tell.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_01: I love movies.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: You don't only have to talk about it.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_01: Do you know how long it took us to like compar to it come uh to convince companies that Asian people watch other movies outside of Bollywood?
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_01: Do you know how long it's taken like for us to be able to be taken seriously on red carpets and stuff like that?
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_01: Like as a South Asian person, it's a rarity to have me on a rad red carpet because they didn't like there's another girl called Z, um Zainab, and she does red carpets and stuff.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: Um it's more her bag, like she's more a journalist and stuff.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_01: I just do like entertainment stuff, but she like to have us on the red carpet is because they didn't believe that well, because uh I I I think they just felt that only Asians watch Asians, like so it's yeah, no, I have such a big community, you know what I mean?
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_01: And they all watch movies and and a lot of Asians do watch films we watch, but also general subscriptions.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_01: If you think about it, uh South Asian people had subscriptions in the 90s, man.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: My parents were subscribing to ZTV, before you, oh yeah, uh Z Cinema.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_01: They had subscriptions before subscriptions were even a thing.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_01: So you want to talk about people that paid money for subscription, yeah.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_01: We knew subscriptions before we had Netflix and Hulu and all these like yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_00: Right, like but you've you did round source and you saw like the the like people talk like when you we we started that because we're like we want to see like the Asian community represented, but we want to see them talking about different things, and like we and this is what one of the things we talk about on the on the the course that we we do when we when we get uh the newer comedians in and everything.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_00: We're like we're like uh you don't like your identity doesn't have to be purely about like or your jokes don't purely have to be about this stuff, you can talk about anything to do with it.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_01: And I will say, you don't have to poke fun at your culture exactly, exactly, and this is one of the biggest things we we we tell them, please do not do that.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because I'm so sick, like I all the big comedians, and I get it, I get it, they that's how they probably were being able to be taken seriously, which is why they can do Taskmaster or they can do Apollo Live at the Apollo or these big stages, or you know, Question Time, or you know, all these uh talk shows, is because they were sort of taking the mick out of the culture to make audiences laugh at them.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_01: But we can't I've shown you can do it without doing that.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_01: Like I don't take the mick out of our culture.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_01: I if anything, I rep I proudly display it on the red carpet wearing an Asian outfit when they don't even ask me to.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_01: I'm like, yeah, they like cocktail.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_01: I'm like, all right, well, I'm gonna wear a Shivani.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um Wednesday premier, Shrani.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_01: Um that's what I do, but but I I I get it because again, it's really difficult to be in a position where I am, and it's like having money and then saying to a poor person, don't worry about money, well, because you've got it.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_01: So, like anytime I ever preach or give like uh advice, people are always like, Well, you've made it, made it in whatever that means, because I don't think I have, but like you've done that in your space.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so you're okay to be able to be like, I don't take a lot of work, but I have to take all the work, or I don't do Asian jokes, but I have to in order to get where you are.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_01: And so I do get it, but at the same time, you can pave a way, and the struggle is harder.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_01: But there's ways to do it.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_01: There are definitely ways to do it, and we just don't need to be the butt of the joke anymore.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: No, exactly.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_01: I'm not, and especially with the current climate, I'm not I'm with the current climate outside, I'm not having watching a comedian.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_01: The minute I see a comedian put an accent on, I turn it off.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_01: I'm like, don't see it.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: Like my dumb mum, my immigrant mum talks like I'm like, are you kidding me?
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_01: Like, your parents are at the moment the forefront of all conversations about why we are uh lower class citizens than other people.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_01: And what you're gonna go and do is then sit in a room full of white people and take the make out of the parents who fought so hard for you to have the privilege to be here.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, literally.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_01: Like, don't get me wrong, I poke fun at my mum, but I put fun at like just our cult, not like religion or culture.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_01: I put fun at like stuff stupid practices.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I'm getting my mum's getting old now.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_01: So, like, it's it's more of a universal thing.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's not like my dumb Pakistani mum smells like curry.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know, I'm not doing that to my mum.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_01: Like, I'll talk about stuff where I'm like, she just loves to hoard stuff, but I think that's a universal mum thing where they love to hoard stuff.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_01: And I'll talk about universal things.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_01: I'm like opening the cup or a fridge and there's like 15 tubs of margarine, which is just a universal thing.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_01: We grew up, you know, opening the biscuit tin and just sewing equipment in there, you can't do annoying things that we all just live through, but not in a case of like she's stupid because she's an immigrant.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_01: Like, no, I'm not I'm not putting that no, that really makes me angry when I see that.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_00: And like I yeah, I'm I re yeah.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_00: This is what again, this is what we had round source for is like do we want we want to show that that range of comedy and show that anyone can talk about anything within those with and about their lives and that everyone is different like in those ways.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_01: And you all have so many stories outside of just being Asian in a couple of things.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_00: And yeah, but that's what that's what it is.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_01: We just we we might be be preaching to the uh the choir here or preaching to like an empty room because some people are just gonna carry on, but it is what it is, as long as even if like we say it and like other people resonate with it, it's it's always helpful to have that.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, yeah.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_01: Even if you cut this out of the podcast.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_00: I'm not cutting this out.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_00: There's uh that was I want that in those let's actually stay in it.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: Um okay, so let's let's move on to the final segment then, which is the um the reverse of what we've talked about, which is a movie that is well reviewed and well loved that you actually think is a bad movie.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_00: I will say Oppenheimer because Oppenheimer meh.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was alright.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_01: It weren't as big as they were gonna, they were making out like people were like rushing to the cinema, Barbenheimer, oh my god, it's gonna be.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_01: It was I think it's it's a Christopher Nolan film.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, it's Christopher Nolan.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_01: Cinematography, artistry, yeah, as a director, phenomenal.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_01: Is it an amazing film?
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_01: No, no, I will say as well, this one's gonna get me crucified.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: Interstellar.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_01: Okay, thank you.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_01: So I love the score.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_01: I love the cinematography, I love the idea of like they're on a planet and then time has passed because time dilation blows my mind.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, space time dilation blows my mind.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_01: However, the rest of it, I do not know what happened.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_01: The back and forth, and he's in this QB base, and he can see his daughter through these curtains and the bookshelf.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, give me strength.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_01: Bore off, turn it off.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_00: I completely agree.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_00: I don't get the hype.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_00: I do not there's so many Christopher Nolan films, I do not get the hype.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just I'm sorry, Christopher Nolan.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm looking forward to Odyssey.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_01: Um I mean, of course you are because it's like Yeah, and also I want the work.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_00: Um, just to wrap the podcast up, like how could thanks so much for coming on.

- 1:07:19SPEAKER_01: Uh TikTok, Instagram, YouTube.

- 1:07:52SPEAKER_01: Do you know what?
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_01: I'm so glad that you actually asked me directly because there's a lot of times it gets lost in translation with like management.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_01: I've had that before, and that's why I tend to like reach out to it.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's always nice because I always try to do it.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_01: Like it to me, it never bot it never bothers me like where the podcast is on its journey or whatever.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_01: I just want to do it if it's fun.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_01: Like if it if it matches what I want to do.

- 1:08:30SPEAKER_00: Bringing everyone back.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_00: Each person has to defend a different version.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's so bad.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_01: We have to defend.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_01: Defend somebody else's, that'd be hard, can you?
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_01: But yeah, thanks for having me.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
