- 0:30Music. And welcome back to the Boundary
- 0:47Corner Podcast, along with my partner Brian Siegler, Jonathan
- 0:52Talley, and Shelton Moss. I'm Curtis Wilson and this
- 0:55episode is brought to you by Doctor Jeremy Counts at the Main
- 0:59Street Pharmacy in Blacksburg. Your friendly neighborhood
- 1:02pharmacy, Three O 1 S Main St. Blacksburg.
- 1:05Welcome back boys. Back at it, fellas.
- 1:08Back at it. We are back.
- 1:11Wednesday night, you know, we, we we switched up.
- 1:14I got to tell myself a little bit for a second I was like,
- 1:17we're going live tonight, right? We got to get all this stuff
- 1:19together. I'm sending links out.
- 1:21I'm like shit, we said we're going live tomorrow.
- 1:23We were going, we were going live Wednesday because Shelter
- 1:26was on the road yesterday and couldn't, couldn't go with us
- 1:30and we had to wait that one extra day but.
- 1:33Habits, man habits are hard to break.
- 1:36They Are you all right, boys? Y'all quiet.
- 1:41All good. Long day, man.
- 1:43Tired. You tired.
- 1:44You. You deserve to be quiet.
- 1:45Shelton, welcome. Go ahead.
- 1:47Yeah, I'm working on this computer, not kicking me off
- 1:50every time I say something acting crazy.
- 1:53I told y'all this Internet, told y'all this Internet be acting
- 1:56crazy down here. But yeah man, everything seems
- 1:59to be good. Got to give, give a shout out
- 2:01before we get to talking. My little cousin Kurt Johnson is
- 2:06a state championship coach for a Montgomery Catholic Knights.
- 2:13He has been the head coach of that school for three years.
- 2:16His record is 42 and two, I think 43 and two now.
- 2:22So I'm very proud of this kid, man.
- 2:24He battled through a lot of stuff.
- 2:26Lost his mom last year during the playoffs, kind of affected
- 2:31them going forward in that game. They lost in the semi finals and
- 2:35this year he came back and he won it all, man.
- 2:39They won it down in Tuscaloosa, on Alabama's field.
- 2:41I didn't get to go. I had some things to do, but I
- 2:44did go to the semi final game and talk to the team.
- 2:48So Yep, I saw Goodman. We feeling good.
- 2:51I'm repping repping for the for the Knights tonight.
- 2:56Heck yeah. Congrats to your cousin there,
- 2:57man. And you were mentioning all fair
- 3:00you going, you going to get in there and get the line going
- 3:02right because he's putting D1 talent out?
- 3:05Yeah, man, if he can get me some lineman it well, I I can't talk
- 3:09too much. We're going to come back.
- 3:10We're going to talk about it a little later on.
- 3:12But we going we going to he, he's got a lot going on, man.
- 3:16If I can get him to get some, get some, some some D1 guy on
- 3:19that line, that would be great. He's actually got a, he's
- 3:22actually got a tight end that's a junior that West Virginia is
- 3:25looking at right now, OK? So he's got some, he's got some
- 3:29good talent on that team. Lots of Congrats from the
- 3:32gallery here. Definitely Congrats to your
- 3:34cousin there, man. That's a that's a big thing
- 3:37doing big thing. I know we talked, you were in
- 3:38the middle of watching that game with me and you chatted on
- 3:40Friday for a few minutes and you said they show it, which is
- 3:43pretty, pretty cool. But we got a lot to unload
- 3:48tonight because we have we have not met.
- 3:51What's it been? 10 days?
- 3:53Something. Like that it.
- 3:54Was like it's been a while man, I forgot how it's it's about
- 3:57what should look like. It's been a bit, man.
- 3:59It's been a bit we had a had to take a little hiatus, little
- 4:02week off, take a breath when you liked our thoughts.
- 4:06Yeah, when you make a bowl game, you got time to relax and
- 4:10practice and you get extra time to the next game.
- 4:15And that's what we do in here tonight as well.
- 4:17But a lot of stuff to unload. We are going to talk about the
- 4:20bowl on the back half of the episode.
- 4:21Take a look at what's left of Tulane, make some predictions,
- 4:25make some predictions on some bowl games, Have some fun.
- 4:28But let's actually start with the bowl games and let's talk
- 4:31about the College Football playoffs.
- 4:34Because even even though this is now going, will we 10 days out
- 4:39since that happened? Yep, it's 10 days because.
- 4:41We can still rant about it. We can still rent.
- 4:43I was on my way back from my mom's when that happened, and lo
- 4:47and behold, they start doing their little thing right #1 the
- 4:51Michigan Wolverines. We ain't shocked, are we?
- 4:54No. No, we ain't shocked #2
- 4:58Washington Huskies not sure. 13 and O not shocked.
- 5:03And then they did the #3 Texas. We weren't shocked.
- 5:08I weren't. I wasn't shocked.
- 5:09They were in. I mean, you could argue Texas at
- 5:103:00 or 4:00 depending on who the other team was, but.
- 5:14But let's go ahead well. Then then #4 pops up.
- 5:17Well, I don't know if I did not see this live because I was
- 5:20driving, but #4 popped up or #5 popped up.
- 5:24And then the next thing you know, Alabama's number 4, which
- 5:30left out. Obviously everybody already
- 5:32knows Florida State 13 and OACC champions two and O against the
- 5:36SEC and you're sitting here and people started posting stuff
- 5:43because a certain network had been laying this out for about a
- 5:47a month right prior to everything going down.
- 5:52And I want to go ahead and get some of Y'all's reactions and
- 5:59sadly, I'm going to let you start because you down there.
- 6:01So what was your reaction? You sitting there, you, whether
- 6:04you're on Twitter watching it live or somebody texting you,
- 6:07what was your first reaction? I mean, I I I knew it.
- 6:11But I was trying to. I was looking at it from a
- 6:14debate standpoint and I have been arguing on Facebook for
- 6:17like 2 days. You know, people wanted to tell
- 6:21me how great the SEC is and this and that and I'm like, I don't
- 6:26give a fuck about any of that. What y'all talking about?
- 6:28What I'm trying to say is there's never been a, there's
- 6:33never been a conference champion that's left out, that's
- 6:35undefeated Power Five, right, 10 years of.
- 6:38It 10. Years.
- 6:39We're supposed to be doing it the same way.
- 6:41Then you know that that that how you lead this team out.
- 6:47Then you got #2. Alabama loses to Texas at home
- 6:54by 10 like. Worse than 10.
- 6:57It was worse than 10. I think it was 2414, no?
- 7:00No, that was the final score, but that game.
- 7:02Oh yeah, yeah, Texas. No, it's 3824 is the final or
- 7:06383424 is the final. But Texas dominated.
- 7:09That game. But it wasn't.
- 7:12Yeah. Either way, I understand.
- 7:13You know? Yeah, you want to see the best
- 7:15teams in there and all that. I don't give a fuck about the
- 7:17best teams unless we talk about Virginia Tech.
- 7:20I just want y'all to stay to your word and do what you say
- 7:23you was going to do. You cheated them boys down there
- 7:26in Florida State out of their chance to go to the championship
- 7:29and that's bullshit. You know what I'm saying?
- 7:30You put it on one player and say, oh, well, you know, he he
- 7:34got hurt. They ain't the same team.
- 7:36Hell, they beat that. They won the conference.
- 7:38They didn't lose the game. They beat the team in the
- 7:40championship by double digits. What?
- 7:42When Alabama used to beat LSU six to three, everybody used to
- 7:46beat. They meet to them kind of games
- 7:48before the state goes out here and wins a defensive
- 7:51championship game. You know, y'all don't got
- 7:53nothing to say. Why ain't Jordan Travis in the
- 7:56Heisman race? Shit, you should have gave him
- 7:57the Heisman if he's that important.
- 7:58He's that damn good, he's that. Important.
- 8:00He's that good that that they can't win a game without him.
- 8:03Why did you, why you didn't give him the fucking Heisman?
- 8:06The more the. More impressive thing.
- 8:08I'm gonna let you keep your rank on.
- 8:09The more impressive thing is they won a third string
- 8:12quarterback. Yeah, they won.
- 8:14Second string was right. Continue, continue, continue.
- 8:17On top of all that, what gets swept under the rug?
- 8:20We're talking about, Well, we want to see the best games, Bob
- 8:23Michigan been fucking cheating. Is there people talking about
- 8:27them cheating? They've been fucking cheating
- 8:30the whole year. They've been cheating.
- 8:33They've been going at people's houses, peeping through their
- 8:35wonders. They fucking running.
- 8:41I don't know what they doing up there, but I know they've been
- 8:43stealing signs and looking under people's dresses and all type of
- 8:47stuff and y'all ain't do nothing about that.
- 8:50But we didn't keep them out of the playoffs, right?
- 8:53Hell, they had a game when we talk about quarterbacks, right,
- 8:57Quarterback men. Most important, Michigan had a a
- 9:01game where that quarterback though, not even the they didn't
- 9:04throw a pass in the second-half, they didn't throw a pass in the
- 9:08second-half, but that's great though.
- 9:11They got a great defense and they got a great running game.
- 9:13I'm just saying, man, it's kind of fucked up.
- 9:15And I and I hate Florida State. That's the thing.
- 9:18I fucking hate Florida State. But I don't think you should do
- 9:21them like that. I think that's kind of fucked
- 9:23up. So, all right, I'm going to
- 9:24pivot here. I'm going.
- 9:25To pivot here to Shelton before I go to Brian, because I know
- 9:29Brian's going to go on a slight tie right too.
- 9:30So let's let's bring some Sheldon did some data research.
- 9:34For Sheldon, just hey, give me your personal feel towards this
- 9:38and then or data then your personal feel towards this.
- 9:41But what's some of the data points say about this?
- 9:46Well, look, I think when you look at, you know the metrics
- 9:49this year, Florida State and Alabama are pretty much dead
- 9:51even. I mean SP plus it's pretty much
- 9:54a dead tie. You know FBI ratings, I think
- 9:57FSU is let's see what were they they were 12th and Alabama was
- 10:0411th. So it's pretty much dead even as
- 10:05far as you know what the metrics say.
- 10:07And I mean if if if the metrics you know were to predict this
- 10:12game, if Florida State, Alabama played each other it'd be it'd
- 10:15be a toss up. Now I know that Jordan Travis is
- 10:17out, so obviously that changes of course.
- 10:18But I just I I think the the committee was overstating the
- 10:23the level of separation between these two teams.
- 10:27And look you you mentioned you know Ty mentioned how you've got
- 10:29a, you've got a system where there's four playoff teams for
- 10:32five major conferences. You know I would argue this was
- 10:35sort of an inevitability that this was going to happen.
- 10:37You know we got we got lucky the first nine years really it it
- 10:41just it took it took till it took till year 10 for a for a
- 10:44you know a a brouhaha like this to kind of you know come up.
- 10:47So it's just it it's a flawless system and I think you know I
- 10:52personally I I would prefer the more deserving team rather than
- 10:55the best team and I say that as a big analytics guy.
- 10:58I just think the games have to matter.
- 11:00It's sort of like if you look at Washington, Oregon this year,
- 11:03Oregon had better metrics because they were more dominant
- 11:06against their schedule, but Washington beat them twice in a
- 11:10couple close games. That could have gone either way.
- 11:11But nobody with their with their right mind would say that we
- 11:14should just give the PAC 12 title to Oregon because they had
- 11:16better metrics. You give it to Washington
- 11:18because they won the games even though they were 9.5 point, 9.5
- 11:22point underdogs. So again, just a just a bad
- 11:25system and unfortunately just a just an inevitable result of
- 11:28kind of what happens when you have a, you don't have any, you
- 11:31know at large bids and and guaranteed spots.
- 11:33It's just just a bad system. So glad we're getting rid of it.
- 11:37Me too. And I'm going to ask you a quick
- 11:39question. If there were three more years
- 11:41left, would they have made the same move because the committing
- 11:44you they had to deal with brush blowback for one year because
- 11:48all they've got to say next year is we're going to 12, This is
- 11:51why we're going, that's why we're going to 12 right there.
- 11:53But if there was three more years left, would they have made
- 11:55the same move or would they have put 13 and O in I?
- 12:01Think it would have made the same move because to to be fair
- 12:05they. Would.
- 12:05Have said the same fucking move. To be fair to the committee,
- 12:08they do state in their in their guidelines that they are are
- 12:12allowed to factor in injuries to key players in their decision
- 12:14making process. So that's why I try not to be
- 12:17super reactionary to this, because it is stated in the
- 12:20rules that they are allowed to do this.
- 12:21They're allowed to factor in injuries.
- 12:23What? They really want to say was
- 12:24we're not having a playoff unless the SCC team is in there,
- 12:27That's. What they really want to say?
- 12:29Which me being in Alabama, I'm kind of glad because I like
- 12:33living. I didn't want them to kind of
- 12:35blow my house up because if somebody, because listen to me,
- 12:39the SEC like for me, when Clemson was winning
- 12:42championships, I didn't give a fuck.
- 12:43I'm not a Clemson fan. SEC fans, if Alabama don't make
- 12:47it and Georgia make it, them motherfuckers be.
- 12:50I told you the SE CS God damn where it's at.
- 12:53Bubba. I'm like you ain't no fucking
- 12:55Georgia fan. So it didn't matter who got.
- 12:59In they. Were putting they already
- 13:01claiming Texas. Texas ain't even in the SEC yet.
- 13:04See that's why Texas coming to the SCCI said.
- 13:06Oh my God. Y'all got to Get Me Out of here,
- 13:08man. Somebody come rescue me.
- 13:11That's what I need. Find you a job.
- 13:12It just. Means more, man, yeah.
- 13:15What's What's your take and? By the way, the ACC beat the SEC
- 13:19head to head this year just to let everybody know that.
- 13:22Actually, the 60 didn't have a winning record against any Power
- 13:26Five any. Power 5 and and they retired for
- 13:29the last in terms of number of bowl teams in the Power 5 so.
- 13:35Here. Here's how I would look at it
- 13:36from my perspective if if I was on the committee.
- 13:40If you're a Power Five team and you're undefeated and we got
- 13:44spots left, you're in. After that, we can get academic
- 13:48and look at strength of schedule.
- 13:49We can look at who you still got playing.
- 13:52You can look at all those other factors.
- 13:54If you are an undefeated Power Five team and you won your
- 13:56conference title and you're unblemished, you need to be in
- 14:01at their spots there. So essentially, unless there's
- 14:03an undefeated team in every Power 5 conference, you should
- 14:06make the playoff. That's me if I was a voting
- 14:09member on this panel. And I mean, I don't think you
- 14:14should have to get academic in the selection process until you
- 14:17have satisfied that, that goal there.
- 14:21I don't like the fact that this feels like we're getting very
- 14:26subjective in in the process when there are objective ways of
- 14:32comparing these teams. And you want to know what else
- 14:36you're. Leaning on the subjective
- 14:37elements of the rules and not any of the objective elements of
- 14:41the rules. So and.
- 14:42And you want to know what else, Brian?
- 14:44What's that? Alabama's going to fucking win
- 14:46it? The fucking bastards are going
- 14:49to be in the whole thing. And people were going to talk
- 14:52about C Told you they were supposed to be in there.
- 14:54What? The.
- 14:56Fuck well, I'm. Going to, I'm going to kind of
- 14:59cap it off with this and it's, I'm going to go something,
- 15:01Sheldon said a few minutes ago. Yeah, Pete's still claiming that
- 15:05title. What?
- 15:07You had this year. Is the committee saying on the
- 15:11field doesn't matter. On the field doesn't matter.
- 15:14It doesn't matter what you do on the field.
- 15:15Well, your players are, well, you.
- 15:17You can't you. You're not going to be able to
- 15:19win without them. Why not?
- 15:20We won twice with that. We went to the Swamp and beat
- 15:22Florida. Well, that's an average Florida
- 15:23team. Still beat them.
- 15:26Still beat them, right. Oh, then you struggle with
- 15:29Louisville with a third string true freshman quarterback
- 15:33playing his first snaps under center.
- 15:36Still beat them, still beat them by double digits.
- 15:38Defense dominated Louisville. Louisville had not been that
- 15:41dominated all year. We saw that first hand.
- 15:44Jeff Brom knows what he's doing and.
- 15:47So. And this is where I keep, you
- 15:49know, and there's people out there just saying I don't care.
- 15:51It's FSUFSFU. Yeah, I don't like FSU either.
- 15:54I don't like any other team in the ACCI.
- 15:56Don't. That's one thing I hate about
- 15:59SCC fans. It's like our conference is
- 16:01good. No, Georgia, Alabama and LSU
- 16:03have been good the last five years.
- 16:06The rest of Y'all haven't done shit.
- 16:09National titles don't go on the sides of the stadiums of yours.
- 16:14When Georgia wins or when Alabama wins, it goes on theirs.
- 16:18They get to put it in the trophy case.
- 16:19You don't so. And I will reiterate before we
- 16:22go any further that a lot of this whole strength of schedule
- 16:26discussion, a lot of that hinges on the preseason rankings.
- 16:32Yes, it does. You're going to have more SEC
- 16:35teams historically ranked in the top 25 to start the season Until
- 16:41you start stacking up some losses that doesn't really drop
- 16:44a whole ton. So to me that really kind of
- 16:46throws off the the overall it always strength the schedule.
- 16:51This is my fear. This is my fear about what the
- 16:54precedent that was set in in in and I've had some conversation
- 16:57with tech fans. Thinks I'm stupid.
- 16:59Y'all can see what you want to say.
- 17:00The precedent is now set and 11:00 and 1:00 Virginia Tech
- 17:04team who did not make the ACC title game 11:00 and 1:00.
- 17:08Is. Ranked number 7 and let's say
- 17:12the running back gets hurt in the last game against UVA Hurts.
- 17:17His ankle going to be out of month is.
- 17:19It is going to be. Able to play the game, but no.
- 17:22By the way, I'm going to stop something right here.
- 17:27Good point, right? The point in the Ohio State game
- 17:32and then they couldn't move the ball against Iowa.
- 17:34But the point is in a few years is the precedents now been set
- 17:37that on the field doesn't matter because in a few years tally
- 17:40going to go AWOL on someone when Tex 11 and one sitting at #7
- 17:44running back gets hurt late in the season guys got 1400 yards
- 17:47tearing it up. Oh.
- 17:49Y'all lost your running back. We've got to put nine and three.
- 17:51Alabama in over you. They're a better team than
- 17:53Y'all. They play in a tougher
- 17:54conference. That's the precedent that's set.
- 17:57And people aren't seeing it right now because everybody
- 17:59drives like this. They drive right in front of
- 18:01them or just looking down the road where you're going to see
- 18:03we're a good team. We can hang with anybody in the
- 18:06country. But because of this, they can
- 18:08now pull you out and say, no, they're better.
- 18:12Brian, would you say they're better subjectively, not
- 18:15objectively on the field? That's what's going to happen.
- 18:19And if it happens to us, we're going to be pissed.
- 18:21And everybody's going to be like, we'll let that happen,
- 18:23then I'll be pissed. Look what's happening in front
- 18:25of you right now. The only way you can do it is
- 18:28give the blowback. Don't watch the games.
- 18:31That's the only way you ever going to do it.
- 18:32Don't watch the games. And for most fans, we can't
- 18:36because we love it. We love the sport.
- 18:39I have seen where we're talking about if if Florida State goes
- 18:44out there and and beats Georgia, there's going to be some AP
- 18:47voters that are putting Florida State number one regardless how
- 18:50the college football playoffs shakes out.
- 18:51So it it'll be interesting to see if we have any sort of
- 18:55revolt on that front in in any sort of significant way.
- 18:57I don't think we'll see. I don't think we'll see anything
- 19:00that will super impact the polls, but it I I would love to
- 19:04see something like that. I'd love to see that.
- 19:06I'd just love to see. It takes me back to the youth,
- 19:09Sheldon, Tally, anything else? Additionally, y'all want to add
- 19:11on this because we won a good 15 minutes on this.
- 19:15Now I think I'm good. Oh yeah, one more thing.
- 19:17Florida State. Fuck you for talking about it at
- 19:20the beginning of the season, how you want to leave and the ACC
- 19:23wasn't shit. Then at the at the end of the
- 19:25season, we all cheering for you because we want you to get in
- 19:28because you deserve to be in. But you said fuck us at the
- 19:31beginning of the season. So guess what?
- 19:33You joined the book cocky line with the rest of us.
- 19:35That's where you ended up. All right?
- 19:38Fuck. All right, let's go and.
- 19:41That is 20 minutes and 45 seconds, so.
- 19:45Perfect. Remember that.
- 19:46All right, let's go to the next thing that came up.
- 19:49And I don't know, I know I sent you all the articles.
- 19:51I don't know how much you read on.
- 19:52I know Brown read a bunch on it. But back on.
- 19:56Let me get the date here. December 5th.
- 19:59So just a few days after CFP was released, the NCAA proposed a
- 20:04new college athletic subdivision of athletics, basically.
- 20:09The. Way it seems is if you want to
- 20:12give your players money, and I don't know all the insurance and
- 20:16outs of it, 30,000 a year for four years to everybody if you
- 20:20play a sport. Brian, I'm going to let you get
- 20:23deeper into this. It really good work by Ross
- 20:26Dellinger. Two articles go read them.
- 20:30But Brian dug into this and Brian, this has been a passion
- 20:33of yours for a long time, but what is your take on this?
- 20:38So I think we know that sometime in the near future there's going
- 20:43to be this Power 5 schism or this high end of college
- 20:49football schism in the sport. I think it's coming.
- 20:53I think that's going to be a bigger discussion than this
- 20:58whole big two, Big Three thing that we kind of got going on
- 21:01because eventually that's not going to matter because there's
- 21:05going to be basically a subdivision with these teams and
- 21:08then other teams that play in what is now the NC, NCAA FBS.
- 21:16So when we look at that, this is kind of a again A NCAA life raft
- 21:23half ass proposal that I don't think really helps anybody and
- 21:31really is kind of weird because of the financials of it all.
- 21:35Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
- 21:38But what they're essentially saying is bringing collectives
- 21:41and nil in house, paying the athletes $30,000 into a trust
- 21:49for their four years and Title 9 is in place.
- 21:54So this would apply across the board for the collegiate sports
- 21:57at that institution. This would really mean like 25
- 22:05or 30 schools qualify. I think from a financial
- 22:08standpoint, you know Nil added in there.
- 22:12You might add a few more in there but this is not this
- 22:17probably doesn't get us where we want to go if if the if the
- 22:21overall goal is to have the best 50 or so programs kind of split
- 22:27off from the NC double AI don't think this gets us there.
- 22:30I think this is too of a too much of A unfeasible and hand
- 22:38holding proposal from the NCAA and the NCAA is proving more and
- 22:44more with some of the results of the lawsuits that we've had over
- 22:47the last couple days. They're losing their ability to
- 22:53have any sort of control over any aspect of the sport anymore.
- 22:57So I think we're going to see a more essentially the
- 23:00institutions doing this themselves and creating their
- 23:03own situation versus whatever is out there.
- 23:05But I I think this is a a life raft that's too late and feels
- 23:10desperate and is is not really going to be feasible for a lot
- 23:14of a lot of schools. True.
- 23:16Sheldon Tally, Anything on this Y'all read or heard about or?
- 23:21That was a lot of smart talking that he just did.
- 23:24And I ain't that smart. That was a whole bunch of
- 23:26talking that that he just did and what it comes down to.
- 23:30Let me break this down. It's the same as marijuana, all
- 23:33right? Marijuana's out on the streets
- 23:36and you got Shelton smoking it. This is just hypothetical,
- 23:41hypothetical, Hypothetical. He's going to get whatever he
- 23:46wants and he's having a good time and he can choose from his
- 23:50dealer what he wants. It's a problem for them because
- 23:53they can't put their hands in it.
- 23:55The NC double, they people been paying people for how long?
- 23:59Y'all been letting these schools rise to the top, paying people,
- 24:04paying off debts for people, moving people to houses, doing
- 24:07all of this stuff for years. Now you want to try to come in
- 24:10and say, oh, we're doing this to help everybody?
- 24:12No, you just want to do something so you can say you're
- 24:15regulating so you can get your fingers in.
- 24:17Now that's all you're trying to do.
- 24:19I just think that's too much, man.
- 24:21Just let it be what it's going to be.
- 24:23Just it is what it is. If the quarterback is the best
- 24:27player and people want to pay him more, if he earns that for
- 24:30his name, image and likeness, let him do it.
- 24:33The The backup second baseman shouldn't get paid the same
- 24:37amount as the starting quarterback.
- 24:39I'm just saying. I mean, hell, you've been doing
- 24:42this for the longest. Why you want to try to act like
- 24:43you're doing something different now?
- 24:46This is my take all. Right.
- 24:47Sheldon, you got anything on this?
- 24:49Anything you've read? And obviously you're close to
- 24:51this stuff. Yeah, well as you guys know,
- 24:54I'm, I'm a big history guy. So I try to look at the history
- 24:57of college bull and how it kind of, you know, shapes, shapes the
- 25:00present. I think, you know, we've,
- 25:03there's been some precedent for stuff like this before.
- 25:05I mean the NCAA split into divisions in 1973, they split
- 25:09into subdivisions in 1978. So you know they've always been
- 25:12kind of further dividing. We saw, you know, the Power 5
- 25:14versus Cooper Five divide in 2014.
- 25:17It just, you know it, it kind of changes as as time goes along.
- 25:20I think the main problem for the NCAA is that there's no one in
- 25:24charge trying to sort of lead the way and and do things that
- 25:30are in the best interest of the entire NCAA.
- 25:33Whereas in the NFL, all the NFL owners, yes they want money and
- 25:36they're motivated by greed and you know self-interest but
- 25:39they're all doing it for the benefit of the NFL.
- 25:41That's not the case in college because the five power 5
- 25:43conferences are working essentially against each other.
- 25:45So therefore the TV networks have all the leverage because
- 25:48they can negotiate with individual conferences rather
- 25:51than the the NCAA as a as a singular singular entity.
- 25:55So I guess all that's a long winded way of saying the cat's
- 25:59gotten too far out of the bag and I think this is a this is a
- 26:02problem that Kajal has just never dealt with because they've
- 26:04just they've pushed along they've sort of kicked the can
- 26:07down the road with the whole amateurs and thing and you know
- 26:11I I get I could I could go into a long winded spill but this for
- 26:1330 minutes but it's just it's it's just the the I think it's
- 26:17the result of of the NCAA leadership never really trying
- 26:20to resolve these problems other than just by kicking the can
- 26:23down the road. This is something that if it was
- 26:26said 15 years ago, it would it would have been revolutionary.
- 26:29It would. Have changed how the sport was
- 26:31done 15 years ago. It's too late now, it's too
- 26:35late. Money was always in there.
- 26:37The nil stuff. Brian said it numerous times.
- 26:40Like. They just sitting back.
- 26:42We don't want to touch any of this.
- 26:44And it was. It was.
- 26:45And this is where it got they. Let it get to a point where the
- 26:47legal system was going to force their hand into a situation
- 26:51where they didn't want to do anything with.
- 26:53So they were like, well, here you go with 100%.
- 26:57Very little thought put behind it because they they dragged
- 27:00their feet and they kicked the can down the road and then they
- 27:03got to a point where from a legal standpoint, they ran out
- 27:06of fucking Rd. Yep.
- 27:08Yep. And and that is why that is why
- 27:10the NCLA keeps losing court cases.
- 27:12Because everybody knows their business model is BS.
- 27:17That's how it is. Yep, that.
- 27:19Is what it is, so we'll see where it leads.
- 27:21If it leads to anything, I don't think it will lead to anything.
- 27:26The only thing it might lead to is when the break off happens of
- 27:29your top 5060 schools, which probably is going to happen in
- 27:33the next decade. It'll probably be, it'll
- 27:36probably be caps and stuff that'll that's the only thing
- 27:38they're throwing out there is can you cap what you pay a
- 27:41player as they play for your team.
- 27:43That's the only thing it's doing.
- 27:45All righty, let's. Go talk about the portal,
- 27:46because ever since. We.
- 27:50Have been here. Only one person had entered the
- 27:52portal. Since then more people have
- 27:55entered the portal. Priced you, Mike Hawkins, Dwayne
- 27:58Loft and Derek Canteen. Johnny Dixon, Chance Black
- 28:02obviously. Of those with Daquan Wright,
- 28:06really biggest contributor was Canteen.
- 28:10A lot of guys want to play in the bowl games.
- 28:14We have not had anybody commit to us yet but just.
- 28:17I know you all are reading and following.
- 28:19By the way, shout out Colby Crawford at 247.
- 28:21That kid is doing a hell of a job keeping track of everything.
- 28:27I don't. I don't know if we're going to
- 28:28substitute him for Matay. Matay, get on your P's and Q's
- 28:32right. That's cold.
- 28:34Next spring and next fall. No, just kidding me.
- 28:36Tell you our guy, But just from what y'all were seeing of the
- 28:40guys going out, what's to tell you?
- 28:45Anybody want a story? I'll.
- 28:47Leave out here what it tells me Two things.
- 28:49Number one, a lot of these guys are folks that have had limited
- 28:56roles, especially in the last year.
- 28:58But also it tells me that they want to play in the bowl.
- 29:01There's twofold here. Number one, this is a big
- 29:04culture move because if you've got guys that still want to be a
- 29:07part of your program as they're looking for their next home,
- 29:09that's huge. I think some of these guys do
- 29:12need tape, so that's going to help too.
- 29:14You get your practices the next two weeks, you get the bowl
- 29:17game. If you get some run in the game,
- 29:20some of these guys might get more run and we'll talk about
- 29:22why that might be as as we kind of move through this episode.
- 29:27But yeah, I think it it speaks to the culture that coach Prize
- 29:31building, Virginia Tech that they still want to be a part of
- 29:33this process. So that's my big take away.
- 29:38Tally, yeah, I kind of, you know, go along with what Brian
- 29:42said there. Don't like to talk about the old
- 29:45staff, you know, a whole bunch. But anytime we had somebody
- 29:48transfer out, it was always doom and gloom, you know, oh, I'm
- 29:52leaving because they shot my dog in the foot.
- 29:54You know, I'm leaving because they it was, it was just always
- 30:00a a soap opera when somebody was making a move for themselves.
- 30:04Then you'd have players fighting with fans, fans fighting with
- 30:07players. I hate to see some of these kids
- 30:10go because, you know, you watch them, they come in, they
- 30:13contribute and it's like you see them grow up, you know what I'm
- 30:16saying? Like I remember when Dwayne
- 30:18Lofton was a freshman and he comes in, you know, and we're
- 30:21excited to see him get on the field.
- 30:23You know, now he's moving on. He's trying to make a move for
- 30:25himself because we're talking about him.
- 30:27We'll probably talk about it a little bit more.
- 30:29I mean you got four starting wide receivers coming back
- 30:32that's going to get a lot of burn, you know?
- 30:35So he deserves to go somewhere and get some playing time, you
- 30:38know, he deserves to get to get in there and and try to make his
- 30:41dream come true, whether he wants to be a all conference
- 30:44player or All American or an NFL player.
- 30:47So I'm just using him for example.
- 30:49So it it is good as far as what Brian said as far as culture
- 30:54goes that you have these people that are leaving and it's like
- 30:58it's cordial, you know. Thank you coaches.
- 31:02I still want to go out here and fight with my brothers one last
- 31:05time and then I'm going to be making a move.
- 31:08You know that that that's something good and that's it's
- 31:10crazy because it feels like it was 10 years ago when we had all
- 31:14this turmoil. It was two years ago, you know
- 31:16what I'm saying? A year and a half ago, when we
- 31:18were sitting around wondering what I remember, people was
- 31:22telling us the program's dead. It ain't nothing to talk about.
- 31:25We never going to win again, you know?
- 31:28It's just a much different feeling around the program now,
- 31:30even though we won six games this year and I almost said only
- 31:33six games because I feel like we could have won more.
- 31:35But anyway, it's just a different, different feel around
- 31:38the program and it's it's something positive.
- 31:40It makes you feel good being a fan to see how the coaches are
- 31:45building that program. Anything Shelton on this?
- 31:49Anybody you're sad to see leave or?
- 31:52No, I mean, I think, I think the coach has done a great job.
- 31:55I think you know the term, the term culture gets thrown out a
- 31:59lot in sports and you hear coaches talk about all the time.
- 32:02I think one of the reasons that I was a little bit more
- 32:04optimistic than most fans, even when Tech was one and three, is
- 32:06that I felt like the staff was really good at at culture
- 32:09management and creating a culture where guys wanted to
- 32:12stay. I mean you talk about the last
- 32:14staff. You know, we had almost the
- 32:16entire team opt out after that that that 2021 bowl game against
- 32:19Maryland. And I I I remember tweeting
- 32:21after that game. I was like, you know, the pride
- 32:23needs to come in and and create a culture where guys want to
- 32:27stay and be a part of this team and not just you know quit when
- 32:29the things when things get tough.
- 32:30And I think that this staff has really done a great job with
- 32:32that and it's just you know so much of it.
- 32:36You know I think we we get caught up in like the exit and
- 32:38OSEN scheme and everything but but so much of of being a a
- 32:41leader, being a head coach is just you know managing people
- 32:43and and the staff has done a really good job of that and you
- 32:45can kind of see with the results it's just you know all these
- 32:48guys want to stay because they want to be a part of this
- 32:50program. So I think it's, I think it's a
- 32:51really good thing and it's a it's a testament to to the
- 32:54culture that Coach Price created.
- 32:56Yep. And that's the big piece when
- 32:57you see guys want to say it is the culture and that's also a
- 33:00selling point as you turn into guys coming in from the portal
- 33:05because that type of culture is something you want to sell.
- 33:08And I know as of right now, make sure right now, make sure no
- 33:11one's committed while I'm sitting here talking, that's
- 33:16what you want because it's an easy sell.
- 33:17Like why? The first question you would
- 33:20sell somebody is why do those guys want to stay?
- 33:22Why are those guys willing to put their bodies on the lines
- 33:25one more time for this team that says something.
- 33:30And you know, again, right now I look at it.
- 33:33It does hurt to see Derek Canteen go, but it's one of
- 33:36those things. I get that there's some younger
- 33:39guys than him. That.
- 33:41Potentially, could be playing those spots where he needs it.
- 33:46I was mentioning it. I think it's talent.
- 33:47Mentioned it to you. Derek Canteen.
- 33:50Hell of a Nickelback can play safety in a pinch, but if he
- 33:53wants to get the most out of his potential future contracts, he's
- 33:58got to show he can play on the outside.
- 34:01And if things happen here, you know that may happen over the
- 34:06next few weeks, he's not going to be able to play on the
- 34:08outside. Thus his his his limits capped
- 34:11here. He can't do any more.
- 34:12So we'll see. But tally, you already mentioned
- 34:16it, so let's start with that. We had the announcement
- 34:18yesterday. Y'all.
- 34:19What about next year? What about next year?
- 34:21Man, we know Drones is coming back well.
- 34:24Yeah, let's start right there. Curtis, when you talk about
- 34:26drones coming back, I mean, he was no nonsense with it.
- 34:30I think they said he was on like a radio show or something.
- 34:34Yeah. And he's like yeah I'm I'm you
- 34:36know next year's going to be fun.
- 34:38It wasn't he didn't have to. He just does what he does on the
- 34:41field like that's I just feel like that's what he is.
- 34:44You know he doesn't he even said like he he's not a huge talker.
- 34:48He just lets his game talk for him, you know, And I feel like
- 34:51that he started the team again. You know, we talked about all
- 34:55season, he started the team in the portal again and said, all
- 34:58right, y'all we need to, we need to start getting this because
- 35:01it's hard to pick up portal players when you don't know what
- 35:04pieces you have. There's a lot of PS right there,
- 35:07Portal players, pieces. So yeah, so when you, it's hard
- 35:12to do that. But when you have a dynamic
- 35:14quarterback that's coming back and then you got a couple of D
- 35:18lineman to come back, one great defensive end is coming back.
- 35:23You know, no disrespect to anybody else coming, but then
- 35:26you get the big, the big drop yesterday.
- 35:30Was it yesterday or day before yesterday?
- 35:31Yesterday. Yesterday 4.
- 35:33Four of your your top wide, your whole wide receivers score.
- 35:38Yeah your your whole wide receivers score is coming back
- 35:41because they didn't they practice and they fought all
- 35:45year to show us what they can do on the field and they feel like
- 35:49they didn't get to do that. You know they got unfinished
- 35:51business because we know Jennings went down in that
- 35:54second game you know get rolled up on and and and breaks his
- 35:58ankle. We was there sucked to see him
- 36:00riding on that cart you know with his parents that we knew he
- 36:04wasn't he he's not playing anymore this year.
- 36:06You know we don't we may never see him in a Virginia Tech
- 36:09jersey again is what we're thinking at that time.
- 36:12We're talking to each other. Well guess what they're back.
- 36:16They all coming back, man. They and, and and for those,
- 36:19some of those guys that maybe could move to a bigger program
- 36:23to get some more team accolades or maybe some personal accolades
- 36:27or even try to hand at the NFL to come back to a six and six
- 36:31program that's been struggling, that has been struggling over
- 36:34the last 5-6 years. And that says a lot, man.
- 36:38That says a lot that those kids are willing to put that on the
- 36:43line to say, OK, we can be legends at Virginia Tech because
- 36:48we're the foundation that's going to build what this can be.
- 36:51And it's that's that's special to watch, man.
- 36:53Shout out the Quest too, man. I see you in the chat Quest.
- 36:56I talk to Quest just about every day, man.
- 36:58He's told me a lot of stuff when we're talking about culture, the
- 37:02Virginia culture as well that the that the coaches have built.
- 37:08I've seen Quest went to NORCOM high School.
- 37:10I was. I see NORCOM and he talks to me
- 37:13a lot about, you know, their coaching staff.
- 37:18Uh oh. You might have.
- 37:20Got them filled now. OK, I'm good now.
- 37:26Yeah. So I was just, I was just saying
- 37:28Quest was talking to me about how NORCOM kind of felt about
- 37:31Virginia Tech during the dark days and how they feel now.
- 37:34And then I see a tweet from their head coach where he says,
- 37:37hey, we got to put Virginia Tech a parking spot out here.
- 37:39They're here all the time. You know, it's not just the
- 37:42team. It's it's going from you know
- 37:45the culture being built in the team to the fan base to the the
- 37:50surrounding areas, the Virginia, the high schools and that's
- 37:53that's that's cool to watch. No, I got off a little bit about
- 37:56the port. It's.
- 37:57One thing to talk about doing it, it's another thing to put in
- 38:00the legwork. And we're seeing the legwork
- 38:03happen. We're seeing the tweets, We're
- 38:05seeing the coaches put out information about it.
- 38:08We're seeing taking the the chopper to the high school
- 38:13games. We're seeing banners flying over
- 38:16Charlottesville on the state championship game, like, and I
- 38:21don't know who did that, but I don't either.
- 38:24Good fucking job. Great job.
- 38:26Genius job. You know, if you talk.
- 38:28About those four guys coming back and I mean you look at the
- 38:32stats obviously you know Ali didn't get to play this year
- 38:34with two games but the way he tore up ODU you knew he was
- 38:37going to do big things and then all wanting to come back and
- 38:41then the APR announcement and then Fuga.
- 38:44So right there is you talked about that is your best
- 38:47defensive lineman could argue might have been the best
- 38:50defensive player this year. That's the that's the that's the
- 38:53that's the episode for February though But then you got a guy
- 38:56like Fuga who was so emotional and so loves this place and as a
- 39:00culture driver in that room. So you get the best player and
- 39:03you get the culture driver, so as they bring in additional
- 39:08players. You.
- 39:10Know you're defensive tackle or you're not defensive end.
- 39:14That guy's good. That guy's going to give me
- 39:16chances to shine. And the saying goes like wide
- 39:21drones. If he knew they were coming
- 39:24back, I would have felt good about coming back too.
- 39:27About. Especially the way he made the
- 39:28connection this year and then we go into an off season and he is
- 39:33the clear cut #1. He's going to get all the reps
- 39:37those connections he's already got with Felton, Gosnell and
- 39:41Lane and hopefully he can develop that with Jennings.
- 39:45That that's big. That's big by the way.
- 39:48Hold on, we got, we got to do something real quick.
- 39:50Robbie was up in Stanton and he saw he saw the plane that.
- 39:56Was great. All right, Sheldon, you got.
- 39:59Anything on any of these guys? I know, I know.
- 40:01Data points to a few of these guys being elite metrically,
- 40:06right? Yeah, give me.
- 40:08I'm gonna. I'm gonna look it up for a SEC.
- 40:10But. All right.
- 40:11Well, let's go to this. I'll let you flip on you.
- 40:13You look up that just talk about of the guys returning our elite
- 40:16ones, but did everybody see this Elaine tweet today?
- 40:19Oh yeah. Shoot, Brian.
- 40:25I don't have it, but I can find it.
- 40:26Hang on, Find. It and read it.
- 40:27I I had it up earlier and then I freaking.
- 40:30I'm like. A dumb ass.
- 40:32I mean, I can. I can paraphrase it.
- 40:34The grass ain't always greener and not everything that glitters
- 40:36is gold. That's it.
- 40:39I don't know what that means, but we we just said a few
- 40:43minutes ago about Derrick Canteen leaving, right?
- 40:46But if, if, if, if. If him.
- 40:57And Dorian Strong come back and with how Dante Lovett looked
- 41:00this year and how Braylon looked and those guys were raw freshmen
- 41:09and the pair with APR and the pair we're seeing we're going
- 41:12after things in the portal. The defense was was in the top
- 41:1625 total defense this year and they had and the whole thing is
- 41:21we can all say it, Brian, you can definitely say it and tally
- 41:23you can say it. We weren't the best at times on
- 41:26defense, but we still ranked in the top 25.
- 41:32So when we see all this about all these guys returning in the
- 41:35offense, which went from a dumpster fire last year in like
- 41:38110 and now I think it's in the 70s and that's Brian, didn't we
- 41:44say that? Yeah, we said, we said just get
- 41:47it to the 80s, you'll be OK. We went to the, we went up to
- 41:51the 70s. So you know Sean, you've been
- 41:55able to find it of who are some of these guys returning, who are
- 41:58our best metric guys? Yeah, I know Jay Lane was one of
- 42:02the top guys in the ACC grades. Watch for receivers.
- 42:05Big yak monster. Two he didn't.
- 42:07He didn't leave the conference in yak yards after catch, but he
- 42:10did lead it in in yak per reception.
- 42:12So he's extremely, extremely efficient when he when he's
- 42:15catching the ball and that. That's with that bullshit
- 42:19touchdown that was called back, too.
- 42:21Yeah, yeah. But I think we, I think we
- 42:25scored a touchdown, we ended up scoring a touchdown on that
- 42:27drive. So I which I think was Gosnell
- 42:29so. I.
- 42:30Guess, you know you spread spread the level around a little
- 42:32bit I suppose, yeah. And then I know Gosnell.
- 42:38Let's see, where's Gosnell? Yeah, he was really good in
- 42:40blocking, not quite as much in in other phases but he he also,
- 42:46he also LED our team in snaps for wide receivers.
- 42:51So yeah, which was kind of surprising because you don't
- 42:54really, you know think of his name when you, you know you
- 42:57think of our our top receivers. But I think that kind of just
- 43:00shows that you know the coaches, the coaches really trust him.
- 43:04He had, let me see, Gosnell had 338 passing snaps in the season,
- 43:09which led all the Hokies. So I mean, I think that just
- 43:12shows that the coach really trusts him with his blocking and
- 43:14he's a really, he's a really well-rounded player.
- 43:18Good deal. Go ahead.
- 43:20Brian I was gonna say if if you can block you keep your ass on
- 43:23the field that's that's just. Yeah, and.
- 43:26That's a good way to stay on the field is if you can block well.
- 43:29Yes. And I've asked Fontell before
- 43:31about, you know his his philosophy on blocking and he
- 43:33said like if you if you did not block, you were not playing for
- 43:36me. So I think he's, he's, he's very
- 43:39big on that. He's a very, very astute coach.
- 43:42Yes, he is that. Now obviously there's a few more
- 43:44guys still out there. Obviously the Lane and Strong
- 43:46have not made announcements yet. Tuden has not made an
- 43:48announcement yet. We haven't heard anything from
- 43:52like Cancer Jenkins and a few other guys who have eligibility
- 43:57and and you said it's the sitting waiting game.
- 43:59But we know again we've thrown a ton of offers out there.
- 44:02They're trying to upgrade the offensive line, They're trying.
- 44:06Let's hope that comes to fruition.
- 44:09Some are dropping. We got about, I think about a
- 44:12third, maybe just over a third of the guys we've got offered
- 44:16have now found another home committed elsewhere well.
- 44:19A couple of them though, look where they committed to.
- 44:22Yeah. A couple of them came in and
- 44:23visited and effectively they left without committing and you
- 44:29know they and and there's no knock.
- 44:32It might just be that's where they want to be, but there was a
- 44:35couple guys who kind of looked at as high regarded guys are
- 44:38going to G fives, they're staying in the G5.
- 44:41So it's almost like they tried, but it just ain't there.
- 44:45So almost put some from Quest up here maybe.
- 44:54Well, let me ask this. And I I wanted that.
- 44:57Brian, I hit you up with all y'all.
- 45:01Can you legitimately throw 5 brand new offensive lineman
- 45:04together and expect it to mesh in the in basically the course
- 45:08of six, not even six months? In the course of, what, 28
- 45:14practices? I'm going to tell you what I
- 45:17told you before, when you don't have an offensive line, getting
- 45:215 new ones is probably an upgrade.
- 45:26So for Colorado, bringing in five new guys is probably going
- 45:29to be a net positive to what they had last year.
- 45:33Just saying. If they wanted an, if they
- 45:36wanted an elite offensive line, they would have got 5 white boys
- 45:40from Wisconsin. That's what they should have
- 45:43done. I mean, I don't know exactly
- 45:45what the offensive line look like, but if they ain't five
- 45:48white boys from Wisconsin or one of those states, they may be
- 45:53average. I'm just telling you.
- 45:55They got to drive. They got to drive a pickup
- 45:56truck. Have no neck at all?
- 45:58No. Neck be.
- 45:59Be pure blue. Elastic.
- 46:02Oh. Man.
- 46:05All right, let's flip it over before we wrap up this side of
- 46:07the episode and let's talk about the the coach openings, because
- 46:11a tongue got filled. And I'm going to focus on just a
- 46:14handful here that to me, I think are going to be important or
- 46:18maybe important to Virginia Tech.
- 46:21I'm going to mention the ones I don't really Sean Lewis.
- 46:24That literally happened the last time we were here.
- 46:25He literally got hired literally 20 minutes before we went off
- 46:28air. Jay Sawbell's taking over for
- 46:30Greg. All that.
- 46:32I can't. The guy who produced Josh Allen,
- 46:34like I've been there for like at Wyoming for 20 years gone.
- 46:38The defensive coordinator takes over at Boise State.
- 46:40Scotty Walden to UTEP. I don't know who that is.
- 46:42Bryant. Vincent UL Monroe.
- 46:44I don't know who that is. Trent Bray was a DC out of
- 46:46Oregon State. He stays where Smith went to
- 46:49Michigan State. First aim, Y'all want to hit
- 46:52about Bronco Mendenhall's back in the coaching game.
- 46:55Greg Bowl, thank you very much, Pete Bronco to New Mexico.
- 47:01But this is where I want to talk about it.
- 47:02First guy I want to talk about is Middle Tennessee and that
- 47:05they heard Derek Mason. Everybody knows who Derek Mason
- 47:07is, right? Oh yeah, Coach Vanderbilt.
- 47:09Coach Stanford. Why?
- 47:11I look at that and y'all give you your opinions on this.
- 47:14Derek Mason is a very good defensive football coach.
- 47:17He has been he he was at Stanford.
- 47:20He's always been a good defensive football coach.
- 47:23I. See a guy going there like that,
- 47:25and I'm going to tell you what, that's our territory.
- 47:28That's at six hour radius, right?
- 47:31Right. Sean Quinn's always out
- 47:32somewhere in Tennessee recruiting players.
- 47:35I. See a guy?
- 47:36Like that go to Middle Tennessee and it's one of those.
- 47:39It's a portal thought. He is going to create a good
- 47:43player who was a two star or walk on and in two or three
- 47:47years we need to drive our asses out there and we need to go say,
- 47:52hey, I know you love Coach Mason, I know you love Middle
- 47:55Tennessee, but you need to come here because it's like that
- 47:58perfect. And I think that's what we need
- 48:00to start looking to is where guys going to have pedigree that
- 48:03can coach certain positions well and almost make that a target.
- 48:07Like if I was, if I was Coach Pratt, I would invite Mason and
- 48:11his staff in the Blacksburg for a week to talk football.
- 48:13Hey, y'all come on over six hour drive.
- 48:15Come on. State Middle Tennessee needs to
- 48:17be our farm system, yes. I think they got a linebacker.
- 48:22I think they got a middle linebacker that we're looking at
- 48:23right now, yeah. Yeah, we plot narrowly.
- 48:25We got to start plotting early, yes.
- 48:28But, you know, that's the way I see it.
- 48:30You got to guys you feel comfortable with or guys who
- 48:33have a good track record, focus on those schools when you go in
- 48:36portal hunting. That's what I say.
- 48:38All right. Obviously two of the big ones
- 48:40for the bowl game, Willie Fritz left Tulane, everybody knows
- 48:43that, right? Oh yeah.
- 48:45I've heard it a couple times, the last couple just a little
- 48:47bit right. Not only did he leave the whole
- 48:50fucking coaching staff left whole.
- 48:51Coaching staff, Half the. Players, and I said it on
- 48:55Twitter, I'm going to say it on here.
- 48:57I don't want to hear shit. I don't want to hear shit about
- 49:01them not having the players or the coaches.
- 49:03Because when we went up to Maryland and we got our asses
- 49:05kicked, y'all hey, y'all was on us.
- 49:11I'm talking about the Vt fans. Was on us all.
- 49:14We went up there and we did this all we did.
- 49:15Hell, we had a guy that played tight end playing quarterback.
- 49:20He threw the ball like Uncle Rico, you know what I'm saying?
- 49:25So hey, I ain't saying we're going to win or blow them out,
- 49:28but we we better win and blow them out.
- 49:31That's all I'm saying. Yeah.
- 49:32They hired John Summerall, who was actually just down the road
- 49:35in your neck of the woods. Tally down at Troy, yeah.
- 49:38He's a good coach. He's a good, he's a really good
- 49:40coach, All right. Anything on those?
- 49:44I was interested. Like the the Kirk Cignetti thing
- 49:47kind of surprised me. I thought he would hold out for
- 49:49a better gig than Indiana, but 60?
- 49:53Two Yeah, he's old. He's old.
- 49:56I guess the one that kind of, you know, that I was looking at
- 49:59the most is maybe Manny Diaz to Duke.
- 50:03You know, I'm interested to see how he recruits there, what he
- 50:07does there. Because Elko kind of had them
- 50:10rolling, man. Of of the hires that I thought
- 50:13they that that were rumored, Diaz is the one I'm glad they
- 50:17picked. Right.
- 50:21If you if you catch what I'm putting down there.
- 50:24We catch exactly what you're putting down there, but I think
- 50:27for him it's just trying to be a head coach again and knowing the
- 50:30a the situation now he's not walking into the best situation
- 50:34that Duke that they've been good the last two years so if you're
- 50:37Doo Doo the last the first couple years they're going to be
- 50:39like. What the hell?
- 50:41Elko came here and started winning right away, but he also
- 50:44knows. Duke.
- 50:46Will give you 5 or six years. Duke will still give you more
- 50:50time than a lot of places. So yeah.
- 50:52And I mean, he's probably going to not have as much of a problem
- 50:56keeping some of those defensive pieces in place and it will kind
- 51:00of come in and not have to tweak a whole lot scheme wise.
- 51:05The big question is going to be what?
- 51:07What does he do on offense? I mean, you lose Riley Leonard,
- 51:10you lost a, you know, a couple other big pieces on that defense
- 51:12already. You lost a, you know, a couple
- 51:15pieces on the offense. So it's going to be interesting
- 51:18to see what he does in the portal and if he can kind of
- 51:23keep the train moving in the right direction that Elko
- 51:26started with Duke there. So, Sheldon.
- 51:31Any of these coaching moves shock you, Surprise you?
- 51:34You like, you love, You hate. Yeah, I think a few thoughts.
- 51:40I think, I think Syracuse had a pretty solid hire.
- 51:42Fran Brown came from, came from Georgia.
- 51:45He was the DC there. So look, if if if Kirby trusts a
- 51:48guy to call plays, I mean that's got to be a pretty good thing.
- 51:51I think Signetti Indiana was interesting just because of his
- 51:54age, I thought he'd stick it out there.
- 51:56I will say I know some Vt fans might not like this, but JME has
- 52:00had a really solid program. I think they are a program that
- 52:02kind of transcends the coaching staff.
- 52:04You look at you know the coaches that have left there, they have
- 52:06not been great. When they're at JMU, they're
- 52:08very good. So I think I think you know you
- 52:10could say he's much more a product of the of the JMU
- 52:12culture so to speak. So be interesting to see how
- 52:15that turns out. And then elsewhere, I don't know
- 52:19Diaz to Duke, I think that's a pretty solid hire.
- 52:22You you mentioned the two lane coaching staff so I just looked
- 52:24it up as you were talking. They will have seven full time
- 52:27coaches. Two lane will in the ball game
- 52:29against Virginia Tech. So there is out three and those
- 52:32three are the Jeeves coordinator, their D backs coach
- 52:36and their wide receivers coach. So.
- 52:38Those guys are all out right now.
- 52:40Tulin does not have anyone that will coach linebackers, so it
- 52:43remains to be seen if they can, if they can fix that, and I
- 52:45think that's going to be, that's going to be pretty good news for
- 52:47Tech skill guys. That does sound good for tech
- 52:51skill guys. And Robbie asked a question and
- 52:53actually yeah, there is a connection with Mason and Marv.
- 52:56Mason he GAD, he was a quality guy and he coached linebackers
- 53:00for two years under Mason at Vanderbilt.
- 53:04So obviously a connection there. The Bob Chesney 1 to JMU guy was
- 53:09up at Holy Cross up in FCS, took them to numerous playoff games.
- 53:14I think you make a good point. Does the culture transcend?
- 53:18Does the culture transcend? Any coach that comes there can
- 53:22and will be good. Now what that eventually puts
- 53:26you in a pinch with, though, is if the culture's that good and
- 53:29the transcends everything, people start saying, I don't,
- 53:33I'm not hiring him because it's they're going to be a good
- 53:36football team. Doesn't matter who steps into
- 53:38that place, right? Yeah, and I forgot, I forgot to
- 53:41mention Chesney, he's also a very good hire.
- 53:43I I dig, I dug into his background a little bit at Holy
- 53:45Cross. He he totally turned around an
- 53:47awful program. So I think and he he's a great
- 53:49culture guy too Speaking of culture.
- 53:51So I think, I think he'll do very well.
- 53:53All righty. Anything else on this stuff,
- 53:55boys? All right, cool.
- 53:58We're going to hit the brake from our digital partners and
- 54:02Main Street Pharmacy. I can probably save you a lot of
- 54:05money and I can take a lot better care of you.
- 54:08That's pretty much it. My name is Jeremy Counts and I'm
- 54:10a pharmacist. I own and operate Main Street
- 54:13Pharmacy here in downtown Blacksburg.
- 54:14My brother's a pharmacist. I'm a pharmacist.
- 54:16My uncle's a pharmacist. My dad's a pharmacist.
- 54:18I remember he would give me M and Ms. to count in little pill
- 54:21counters. This is something I've always
- 54:23done and I'm just lucky that what I know so well is something
- 54:27that I can do and feel good about it and get back to people.
- 54:30Pharmacies are your frontline defense.
- 54:32Pharmacy's job is to make sure you're getting optimal care for
- 54:35the lowest price possible. Also, we take the pressure off
- 54:39of emergency rooms. I'll tell people immediately
- 54:41when they need to go to the doctor, or I'll tell them if
- 54:43they just need a cream over the counter.
- 54:45If there's something that isn't commercially available, if it's
- 54:47something that's not available in a certain strength or a
- 54:50certain form or anything like that, we'll make it tailor made
- 54:53medications. Some of those options save
- 54:54people a lot of money. What motivates me?
- 54:56I get to take care of people and limit Blacksburg.
- 54:59That's all neat. As we take a quick break, we'd
- 55:03like to tell you about getting your free website report from
- 55:06our digital partner, Grassroots Digital Marketing Studio.
- 55:09They'll tell you how your. Website ranks on Google on site,
- 55:12SEO and social media. No commitment to buy anything.
- 55:15You can get your free report by visiting grassroots
- 55:17digitalstudio.com/free Dash website Dash Report.
- 55:22Now back to the episode. All righty.
- 55:26And we are back and let's flip it down.
- 55:28Let's talk about the Hokies bowl game and know the enemy Tulane.
- 55:32We've already kind of mentioned it already.
- 55:34A lot of the enemies leaving, so it was very tough.
- 55:37Brown was looking at tape and Brown would be like, what about
- 55:40this guy? He's in the portal.
- 55:41Shit, what about the quarterback?
- 55:44Quarterback might be in the portal.
- 55:45He's hurt anyway, so it was a tough one to do.
- 55:48So but we are going to hit some pieces of it.
- 55:50But what was just your general reaction, boys?
- 55:52It was the Military Bowl, Could have been the Mayo Bowl.
- 55:55It was rumors. It could have been the Sun Bowl.
- 55:57Or were you just happy to be back?
- 56:00It's that feeling watching it on Sunday, because last year it
- 56:03sucked. It did.
- 56:06You get to watch it's. It felt good to be, you know,
- 56:10talking about a bowl, to be back in the bowl.
- 56:13You know, honestly, you know, some people just Twitter people,
- 56:17oh, we should, we should be playing them.
- 56:20We should be. I said, man, I don't care who we
- 56:22play. I just want to win.
- 56:25We can play the Helen Keller School for all I care.
- 56:27I don't want to beat them, you know what I'm saying?
- 56:30I said. Give me guy.
- 56:30You're dead. I'll I'll go out there and beat
- 56:32tell you one. Thing Somebody said we need to
- 56:34play Kentucky. I said no.
- 56:35The fuck we don't I? Don't want to play?
- 56:38I do not want to play Kentucky. I'm just tired of said.
- 56:41I don't want to see them this year, but if we would have
- 56:44played them, like I said, I was just excited to be back in in
- 56:46the bowl games so we can we have more content to talk about.
- 56:51You know, we don't talk anyway, but we got more content to talk
- 56:54about, man, because when you got those weeks and everybody else
- 56:57is preparing for bowl game and you sitting at home sucks man.
- 57:00Especially when you know you only win three games.
- 57:03So the double date win total this year.
- 57:05But for me and I and I got to say my esteemed colleague
- 57:09Shelton, like we expected it the whole time.
- 57:13I I know y'all was in there too. The whole BCP was in.
- 57:16There, you know. Like even when we started out,
- 57:19y'all. Y'all were very confident.
- 57:21Now I will say that y'all were very.
- 57:22Confident. Even when we started out rough,
- 57:24though, Sheldon kind of, he kept me, he kept me grounded, he said
- 57:28he said. Lethal ACC play.
- 57:29We'll be all right. We got to.
- 57:30We got to. Section a little bit here, he
- 57:31said. Tally, the analytics, that's
- 57:34what he said. The analytics like you know
- 57:36he'll hit you with that right there and it's like all right
- 57:39man, once we got rolling and then we got to see some, we got
- 57:42to see, you know, last year we had three wins, but it was like
- 57:45a tough three wins too. It was like we didn't have a lot
- 57:48of like man, we got highlight tapes.
- 57:50This year we got you know some cool stuff going on with social
- 57:55media putting out videos and things like that.
- 57:58So it was six win season and it was just fun, fun to see So you
- 58:04can feel the the energy around the program and you can feel
- 58:07that into the bowl game. So I I was just excited to to be
- 58:11back in bowl contention. Honestly, yeah.
- 58:14It was nice to see the team kind of hit a hit, a little bit of a
- 58:16reset button, clean things up a little bit after a three-game
- 58:20losing streak and just go on a tear there in the ACC play
- 58:23against anyone who didn't end the season with a a number next
- 58:27to their name that that was satisfying.
- 58:31And then, you know, Speaking of bowl games, you know, it could
- 58:34have been Mayo, but the committee kind of fucked us
- 58:36there because as soon as FSU wasn't in, it was pretty much
- 58:40the the Mayo was out of play for us.
- 58:42So it just took. Just took forever to finally get
- 58:45a the call of where we were going out, yeah.
- 58:47Yeah. So you know we kind of knew if
- 58:50if it wasn't the Mayo was probably going to be some high
- 58:52level G5 team in the Military Bowl.
- 58:56So that's what you you. Know something that I kind of
- 58:59laugh at and and and everybody likes to downtrodden the ACC.
- 59:03You know the ACC is playing every double digit win G5 team.
- 59:09We're playing Tulane B, CS playing SMU and who've I missing
- 59:15Troy is playing Duke. Well, of course you're going to
- 59:19get a bad looks like, well, you, you should beat them like 11
- 59:23games this year. They're still a good football
- 59:25team, some good. Teams, man.
- 59:27They. Are.
- 59:28And by the way shout out to those going Shelton being one of
- 59:31them, contributing, selling out, selling out, selling out the
- 59:37allotment up there. Now you going to drive up three
- 59:40O 1 and back same day. Are you going up to Nova and
- 59:42hanging out with somebody, Sheldon for the game?
- 59:44I. Got So I I have a preview set
- 59:46up. I got AI, got a family member
- 59:48who lives in Annapolis, like 2 miles from the stadium.
- 59:53I got the would. They would.
- 59:54They harbor three, you know, ruffians.
- 59:58DeGeneres. Our kids got doctor's
- 1:00:01appointment. My wife would.
- 1:00:02I wouldn't be able to come home for a month if I did that.
- 1:00:06All righty. Well, let's jump into it, Brian.
- 1:00:08Let's talk about this offense, talk about a couple players and
- 1:00:13then talk about scheme. Let's just talk about the scheme
- 1:00:17in general. Obviously, the offensive
- 1:00:20coordinator is no longer there, right?
- 1:00:22He gone. No, he's not gone.
- 1:00:25I thought he was gone, but he might not be gone.
- 1:00:28Hang on. Everything.
- 1:00:30Everything. O CS gone right.
- 1:00:32Sheldon, you had it up. Shoot, I forgot.
- 1:00:36I thought it was ADC. No.
- 1:00:39Yes, because the interim head coach is going to call the
- 1:00:41plays. So I think so.
- 1:00:42OK. There you go.
- 1:00:43All right, but what are we looking at system wise, scheme
- 1:00:46wise? Yeah.
- 1:00:48So what we're looking at here, I mean it's a, it's a pro spread
- 1:00:51system. They will go multiple, multiple
- 1:00:54front quarterback is mostly a shotgun will go under center.
- 1:00:58They run a lot of Wildcat and Pistol as well, lots of quick
- 1:01:02passes predicated on the quick passing game.
- 1:01:05They like to move the ball in the pocket in the passing game.
- 1:01:07So they're going to roll the quarterback out a good deal and
- 1:01:10they're really consistent effect on the running game, which sets
- 1:01:13up their play action whenever they want to kind of take those
- 1:01:15shots. All right, good deal.
- 1:01:18Well, let's talk about. I do not have a lot of info on
- 1:01:20these guys because when they were dropping like flies, I was
- 1:01:23not going to do the research. I was not taking the time.
- 1:01:25But I want to talk about Makai Hughes, because Makai Hughes,
- 1:01:28how is this kid not in the portal?
- 1:01:30He rushed for almost 1300 yards this year over 5A, carry 7
- 1:01:34touchdowns and he's a freshman at Tulane.
- 1:01:37How is that kid not in the portal?
- 1:01:39Now watch Brian because he's not in the portal yet.
- 1:01:42You get to tell us what he does. Good.
- 1:01:45Yeah and based on who else is in the portal and I know we'll talk
- 1:01:49about that a little bit this is their offense from from my
- 1:01:54estimation of who's left that I can actually give you
- 1:01:57information about this is their offense.
- 1:02:00But it's it's it's a damn good player to have to say that
- 1:02:03about. I mean he's got good vision and
- 1:02:06improvisation as a running back, runs with really good balance,
- 1:02:10likes to take the cut back game lanes if the the defense kind of
- 1:02:14over pursues in the running game runs through kind of those pop
- 1:02:18and arm tackles. So you got to wrap him up and
- 1:02:21surprisingly a good blocker for a true freshman.
- 1:02:24But I mean if he's a freshman and he's on the field he's
- 1:02:27probably blocking because otherwise he wouldn't be there
- 1:02:30or he'd only be there in certain situations.
- 1:02:31So that that that's what we're looking at here.
- 1:02:36Like I said, he's he's he's he's got a little bit of breakaway so
- 1:02:39he can't hit the home run, but he is kind of just a guy that
- 1:02:44you got to bring down because he will pop some some of those.
- 1:02:48Little. Burst on you from from here
- 1:02:50there and and and kind of grind it out.
- 1:02:52All righty, all righty, we're going to talk about Alex
- 1:02:55Ballman, but legitimately, you, Brian even had the notes in here
- 1:02:58on Ballman and then literally he went in the portal today.
- 1:03:04Because, because that's. Their tight end, by the way.
- 1:03:08That's their. Tight end?
- 1:03:09Yeah, yeah. Sheldon, you hit real quick
- 1:03:12before Brian jumps on the offensive line.
- 1:03:14We know they're missing Chris Brazil.
- 1:03:18We know Pratt's probably not going to play in a couple other
- 1:03:21their wide outs have been banged, but you looked up a few
- 1:03:24of their guys. Like what are they missing?
- 1:03:26Like seriously, you know, analytics wise.
- 1:03:29Yeah. Well, obviously Brazil, you
- 1:03:30mentioned he was a pretty solid grader in PFF, about 16 yards
- 1:03:34for catch, pretty efficient in yards for route run.
- 1:03:37And when he was targeted, he was top 20 among among group of five
- 1:03:40wide receivers when targeted efficiency, efficiency rating
- 1:03:43wise and then some of their some of the other guys defensive
- 1:03:47lineman. I don't know if these guys are
- 1:03:51officially yeah it looks like they are 'cause they're
- 1:03:53receiving offers. So Devi Ann deal from
- 1:03:59mispronouncing that really good pass rusher 83.4 pass rush grade
- 1:04:0328 totally QB pressures. Keith Cooper Junior, another D
- 1:04:06Lyman. He's got a 5 sacks, 77 rush
- 1:04:10defense grade, Not a great tackler, but they've also got
- 1:04:15defensive back DJ Douglas. 3IN TS, 72 pass first grade and very
- 1:04:19good in coverage around 78, which is 28th in a group of five
- 1:04:22S Missing a couple a couple big boys in the D line and a couple
- 1:04:26couple of good skill guys as well.
- 1:04:28Yep. In Brazil right now, Tally, you
- 1:04:32see where he's likely going. Tennessee.
- 1:04:37That's good. That's that's that's a big
- 1:04:39difference, man. And he did something.
- 1:04:41He did something right. And again, This is why the
- 1:04:44portal's good, right? A kid was you go look at Chris
- 1:04:47Bozell and who he was coming out of high school like like a mid,
- 1:04:53three star, mid to low three star.
- 1:04:56Nowhere. Nowhere had him ranked in the
- 1:04:59top 100 wide receivers in the country last year.
- 1:05:02He goes there and he blows up. Good for him.
- 1:05:05This is what it's for. Yeah, Brian, they do not have or
- 1:05:11if they do, they don't have many offensive lineman out.
- 1:05:16But what does their offensive line look like?
- 1:05:20Better in the run game than they are in pass pro for sure, You
- 1:05:24know looking at them, good job of passing defenders off in the
- 1:05:28combo and getting to the second level.
- 1:05:31The quick passing game disguises some of their pass pro
- 1:05:33deficiencies, but they they really don't do a very good job
- 1:05:37in pass pro overall. You know, the question is will
- 1:05:40the the skilled players that they're missing and the lack of
- 1:05:45timing that we'll probably see with some of those newer skilled
- 1:05:49players, is that going to create a problem?
- 1:05:51Is that going to throw off some of the timing of those quick
- 1:05:53hitters and are we going to be have some additional
- 1:05:55opportunities to get after the quarterback A?
- 1:05:58100% tally, you mentioned you watched Pratt or you watched
- 1:06:03them play Ole Miss, right? You watched a lot of that game
- 1:06:05where Pratt was not there. Yeah, a little bit.
- 1:06:08I watched a little bit of it. Seems like it was years ago.
- 1:06:11It it. Does it was months ago, but I
- 1:06:13can remember you mentioned to me like without even the number one
- 1:06:16quarterback, they hung with them most of that game until the
- 1:06:18fourth quarter. Yeah, yeah, they gave all this
- 1:06:21all they can handle, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:06:22But they just had, I think they were a well coached team and
- 1:06:24they had some skilled positions. So you know, I'm glad we ain't
- 1:06:30playing that team. I'm glad half of them gone.
- 1:06:34I want to win. I want to be right, then I want
- 1:06:37to win. He wants to win.
- 1:06:40Sean, you got anything on Pratt? Because apparently there's also
- 1:06:44talk that he could declare for the draft, No.
- 1:06:48Unfortunately, I don't have anything on him.
- 1:06:49Nothing. On Pratt, yeah.
- 1:06:50That's hung up I. Mean he threw for 2400 yards
- 1:06:53this year, 22 touchdown, 5 picks, close to 300 yards
- 1:06:57rushing. So obviously if he's not there
- 1:07:00and their backup went out, I think I read today the guy who
- 1:07:04will be starting has taken 7 steps of his entire career.
- 1:07:09I don't like that because every time that happens to us, they
- 1:07:12have, they play it, you know? It you say it all the time.
- 1:07:16Why can't I say it? All right, Brian, let's flip
- 1:07:18over to the defense next. Obviously, Sean's already
- 1:07:21mentioned they're missing some really key players there, man.
- 1:07:25But they do have a couple guys that as of today say this.
- 1:07:29As of today, at this very moment at time, is it 1043 Eastern
- 1:07:34Standard Time on December 13th are still there?
- 1:07:39What does the scheme look like and who are a couple of good
- 1:07:40players? Yeah, I mean they run a multiple
- 1:07:44front kind of hybrid, 4-3 base defense, standing defensive end
- 1:07:49in linebacker hybrid. They they they use that that's
- 1:07:52called the dog. They also have a hybrid safety
- 1:07:56linebacker that they call the anchor.
- 1:07:59They like to bring a lot of pressure on run and pass downs
- 1:08:01from every level. So they kind of mix things up
- 1:08:03from a from a defensive perspective with the with the
- 1:08:05pressure they will bring people all the time from different
- 1:08:08levels that are not afraid to get after get after the
- 1:08:10quarterback and cause some confusion for the offensive line
- 1:08:13in the run game. All righty, Let's talk about
- 1:08:16Jesus Machado here. They're starting Mike
- 1:08:20linebacker. Guy had close to 100 tackles
- 1:08:22this year. What's he do?
- 1:08:25Good. What's he do?
- 1:08:26Bad Can we take advantage of him if he doesn't have some of the
- 1:08:30players Shelton mentioned? Yeah, he's their Mike backer.
- 1:08:33They used him a lot on the blitzes though, that he's he's
- 1:08:35playing in the back field a good deal.
- 1:08:38Definitely their best tackle in the front 7, cover a lot of
- 1:08:41ground fast, really guy that can move around for a good deal and
- 1:08:45probably his biggest weakness is he's not good at shedding
- 1:08:48blockers. So if he doesn't have a couple
- 1:08:50guys up front, protecting him and and and giving him some
- 1:08:53cover could be a long day for him.
- 1:08:55But if if he's running free, he can make some plays.
- 1:09:00All righty and another guy that is again still there who
- 1:09:04actually had a pretty good season.
- 1:09:07Another defensive lineman, Darius Hodge.
- 1:09:10Actually, we'll have another year of eligibility left, so he
- 1:09:17may be leaving, but may want to play one more game.
- 1:09:19Led the team in sacks with 7 1/2, you know a six foot four,
- 1:09:23265 LB defensive line and where is he lined up at and how good
- 1:09:28is he? He's the dog he's, yeah, So he's
- 1:09:32the DN occasionally puts his hand in the dirt, usually
- 1:09:34standing up though. They'll slide him back into a
- 1:09:37backer spot if they go with that three man front.
- 1:09:41Really good blend of speed and power, really good motor,
- 1:09:45definitely. I'd say he's better at rushing
- 1:09:47the the passer than he is at like stuff in the run and they
- 1:09:51will use them in coverage when he's in the backer spot or or
- 1:09:53sometimes from the end and like a a zone blitz type situation
- 1:09:56where he's dropping in the flats or spying things like that.
- 1:10:00So he's he's pretty good at those responsibilities as well.
- 1:10:02All right. And again, the plethora players
- 1:10:05that are out, they are missing. I think Demario Douglas is like
- 1:10:07their best secondary guy, so many different players.
- 1:10:11It it's this is where usually this is really fun for Brian and
- 1:10:15it's usually fun for us because we're every week we get to know.
- 1:10:19Sean's looking at the analytics, Tally's looking at the tape,
- 1:10:21he's looking at stats. I'm looking at Dad.
- 1:10:22I'm looking where they're back. This.
- 1:10:24Kind of sucked because it was just like, I was more looking
- 1:10:27like who's left? Who's on the team still?
- 1:10:30We knew that Mackay hadn't transfer so we were like all
- 1:10:33right at least the best running back you know is is there so we
- 1:10:37can focus on that defense. You at least had your your
- 1:10:40number one tackler there, so and there does that guy.
- 1:10:44Right now, right now, they could be doing stuff.
- 1:10:46All right, well, we still got a game to play.
- 1:10:49It is going to be exactly 2 weeks from today.
- 1:10:54Tally. I'm going to let you start it
- 1:10:55off here. What is your key to this game?
- 1:10:59You just got to focus on yourself.
- 1:11:01You got to do what you do good. You know, you don't know quite
- 1:11:05what scheme they're going to come out with.
- 1:11:06You don't know what players they're going to come out with.
- 1:11:08But you know what you got. You know what players you're
- 1:11:10taking. You know what you can do good
- 1:11:12and you know what you can't do good.
- 1:11:13You just got to go do that. You just got to go play.
- 1:11:16You got to stay true to who you are.
- 1:11:18You know, you got to go run your offense and your defense and you
- 1:11:21got to go win a game. So enjoy the bowl week.
- 1:11:25You know, I know they probably do some gifts and they get to go
- 1:11:28do some different things that's tied along to that bowl, which
- 1:11:31is great for those kids. But we just got to go play
- 1:11:35Virginia Tech football and we'll be fine all.
- 1:11:38Right, Shawn, what about you? What does it keep to the game?
- 1:11:41You obviously looked over some data and things like that and
- 1:11:44know a little bit about some of their players.
- 1:11:46What's the key to you on this game?
- 1:11:49Well, look, I'm not going to use the data because there's just so
- 1:11:51many missing guys, so many unknowns, so many different
- 1:11:54pieces. It's just, I don't, I don't know
- 1:11:56if you can really, you know, get a good feel for a game like this
- 1:11:58looking just at numbers because of how many, you know, variables
- 1:12:01there are. But I think the biggest key for
- 1:12:03me is just show up and, you know, act like you want to be
- 1:12:06there. I think with ball games it's
- 1:12:08easy to kind of, you know, sort of look at as like a vacation.
- 1:12:11But I mean if they show up, it's it's and I think it's a big game
- 1:12:14for VTi mean you go into this season with, you know, winning
- 1:12:17record, potentially good momentum going to the offseason,
- 1:12:20first ball, first ball win, potentially for Vt in 7-7 years.
- 1:12:25So that's crazy to think. About military Bowl, right?
- 1:12:29There's a military. Bowl 20/20/16 belt ball come
- 1:12:32back against. Arkansas, Arkansas.
- 1:12:34Yeah, I thought we would. Draw Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:38We had one since then, yeah. So just, I mean just show up and
- 1:12:42and play like it's not tech. Tech's a better team, they've
- 1:12:45got better players. They just have to, they just
- 1:12:47have to act like they want it and and if they do that then
- 1:12:50they'll they'll win pretty easily I think.
- 1:12:52Ron, what about you, man? I'm going to kind of really kind
- 1:12:55of pivot from what Shelton was saying there.
- 1:12:57And the way that you show up and you you play like that is you
- 1:13:00don't beat yourself. I think if we limit the
- 1:13:04mistakes, limit the procedure penalties, limit any sort of
- 1:13:07turnovers, you know, limit those head scratching plays on defense
- 1:13:13where you give up a really big run.
- 1:13:16If we don't beat ourselves, we should win this game pretty
- 1:13:19easily. Yeah, And I'm I gotta do
- 1:13:24something real quick just because that is funny.
- 1:13:27So I. Love you, Robbie.
- 1:13:29I love you, Robbie. I.
- 1:13:30Was I? By the way?
- 1:13:31I was aware that Annapolis is not a vacation spot.
- 1:13:33It just felt good to say, I bet. Come on, this is what I want to
- 1:13:38say. And I've said a few times this
- 1:13:40year, they've got to let it hang.
- 1:13:42If you've got a trick play that you let what?
- 1:13:43Hang Curtis. Let it hang.
- 1:13:45Let it hang. Hang, let it all hang.
- 1:13:48Where you lending? Hang Curtis.
- 1:13:52Y'all. Know where?
- 1:13:53But why I say that is it's the bowl game.
- 1:13:56If you've got a trick play, run it.
- 1:13:58If you've got something you want to do a little crazy on defense,
- 1:14:00do it. You want to fake a punt?
- 1:14:02Do it. Let it hang.
- 1:14:04Play loose. You know what?
- 1:14:07It's a bowl game. It's meaningless.
- 1:14:08I know some people say, well, the extra, the practices are not
- 1:14:12the practices are not meaningless because right now it
- 1:14:16it, it could mean where people are going or after that bowl
- 1:14:19game are people out in the portal.
- 1:14:21So you know, we'll see. All right.
- 1:14:24Well, now we got to make predictions and y'all slackers
- 1:14:27didn't put anything in here. So I don't know what y'all's
- 1:14:29heads thinking, but our prediction And then we're going
- 1:14:32to do 10 bowl games. Big screeners presented by prize
- 1:14:35picks. Prize pick daily fantasy app

- 1:14:49I'm coming. Hang on.
- 1:14:52Coming up in the corner there. Very small cuz we got a lot of
- 1:14:55games we're picking tonight. Having fun?
- 1:14:57Use that or go to boundarycornerbt.com back slash
- 1:15:01BC picks to the. Vt Game is not on the board,
- 1:15:04just want to give you the heads up, no worries.
- 1:15:07No worries. All righty.
- 1:15:08Well. I want to start with Shelton.
- 1:15:12Shelton, what is your prediction for this hockey game?
- 1:15:15Yeah, I'm taking Vt I don't, I don't really have a spread
- 1:15:18anything like that. I think they're going to win by
- 1:15:21by at least at least one score, probably 2.
- 1:15:24OK, yeah, yeah, I think it's just no contest.
- 1:15:27I mean, they, they've got the better team they get.
- 1:15:28Their guys are locked in. I think they're going to come
- 1:15:30out and have a good game. All right.
- 1:15:32Tally, what about you? I'm going to say Virginia Tech
- 1:15:364814, Big B. Blowout.
- 1:15:41All righty, Siegler. Give me the Hokies 3814. 3814
- 1:15:49I'm not far behind, y'all at all.
- 1:15:51And again going through knowing how much they lost losing ahead
- 1:15:53coach and I think what but some of y'all said, I think we are
- 1:15:57locked in I think this team is locked in you're you're seeing
- 1:16:01it from the announcements of guys coming back and things like
- 1:16:04that they are locked in give me 4117 it's not even going to be
- 1:16:08that close. I think they get a couple
- 1:16:10garbage times when the walk ONS, like you know, #20, the white
- 1:16:16#27 defensive back that Tally loves so much is on the field
- 1:16:19leading the game. Childers.
- 1:16:22Children, there we go. All righty.
- 1:16:24Well, now we get to pick some bowl games.
- 1:16:26Are we picking them all? No, because I we do not feel
- 1:16:28like being here until 12:30. Just don't.
- 1:16:31It's 41 of them, 43 of them this year.
- 1:16:33But what we did was we went through and we looked at our
- 1:16:37bowls and said, you know what, that's going to be a fun game to
- 1:16:40watch because starting next week, let's be real y'all, Sean,
- 1:16:44we know you're pretty much you're off for a few weeks here.
- 1:16:47I'm taking on like 12 days at the end of the year.
- 1:16:50Brian, I know you're working sparingly.
- 1:16:52Tally, you ain't working after. Tomorrow I'm working from home
- 1:16:55the rest of the year, so yeah, I'm not going to see the office
- 1:16:58again until the New Year after tomorrow, so he ain't.
- 1:17:00Getting nothing done, Rush. He will be watching the bowl
- 1:17:02games. All it's like is an e-mail
- 1:17:04there? Good.
- 1:17:05So we picked some fun ones out and that's what we're going to
- 1:17:07be picking tonight. No spread, though.
- 1:17:10Why spreads too tough. Just who we think's the better
- 1:17:13team and where they are and we are starting.
- 1:17:16I don't know the order you put it in Brian, so you're going to
- 1:17:18have to same. Order that you had it in in the
- 1:17:20text so we'll we'll lead off here with the one I one of the
- 1:17:24ones I picked here. All right.
- 1:17:26This is the We got the soap Dickens versus the car wash
- 1:17:30Dickens. The Las Vegas Bowl.
- 1:17:35The Las Vegas Bowl. And you know, I'll lead here.
- 1:17:40I've got Utah on this one. All right.
- 1:17:43Utah. Northwestern.
- 1:17:44Am I picking this one next? Yeah.
- 1:17:46We're go. We're we're snaking it through
- 1:17:47here. We're snaking.
- 1:17:48This one through. All right.
- 1:17:50Who the hell did I say I think I got?
- 1:17:52I see Utah. On this one.
- 1:17:54You did? I did Utah Utah Northwestern
- 1:17:58dream season of somehow making a bowl after everything that went
- 1:18:02home in the offseason is done. Tally who you got.
- 1:18:05I'm. Going Utah.
- 1:18:08All right, Utah and Sheldon. Give me Utah.
- 1:18:12Northwestern's had a great year, but they're punching well above
- 1:18:14their weight class. I think you guys are going to
- 1:18:15shut them down. So everybody says soaking is
- 1:18:18better than car wash. Soaking is better than car wash.
- 1:18:24All. Righty Next game.
- 1:18:26Whose choice was this Holiday Bowl?
- 1:18:28Was that Mine. That was mine.
- 1:18:29Rolling. That was yours.
- 1:18:31Holiday Bowl next? USC.
- 1:18:33Louisville. Shelton, who you got in this
- 1:18:36one? I'm taking Louisville just
- 1:18:38because I feel like they'd be more more motivated.
- 1:18:40I feel like USC probably had playoff expectations, so they're
- 1:18:43probably less likely to to really care about this game.
- 1:18:46All. Right.
- 1:18:47Good deal. Tally.
- 1:18:48Tally I'm. Taking I'm taking Louisville as
- 1:18:51well. All righty, Brian, let you pop
- 1:18:55that up for Tally and this is the one I picked.
- 1:18:58I think regardless of this game, I know Caleb Williams is not
- 1:19:02playing. I think this is going to be an
- 1:19:04entertaining ass offensive game because you got 2 high level
- 1:19:08guys in Braun and Raleigh. First of all take the over.
- 1:19:12If anything, Louisville wins by 10, though.
- 1:19:17Yeah, I'm riding with Louisville too.
- 1:19:18I think to Shelton's point, I think the Louisville has just
- 1:19:23got more to play for here. I think this is kind of a
- 1:19:26consolation for USC here. They they had aspirations for
- 1:19:30more. They've got a couple guys, key
- 1:19:32guys that are not going to be playing in the game.
- 1:19:33I just think Louisville is going to have more to play for here.
- 1:19:36All righty. All right, next one was my
- 1:19:39actually second choice and this is going to be on the 28th and
- 1:19:4211:00 kick place. I have been before the Fenway
- 1:19:46Bowl, BC versus SMU, future ACC match up here, the BC Eagles
- 1:19:54versus SMU. Brian, who you taking in this
- 1:19:56one? Give me SMU here.
- 1:20:00I just think that top to bottom, they're probably one of the
- 1:20:03best, if not the best G5 programs about to be a a Power
- 1:20:08Five ACC program. So yeah, give me, give me SMU to
- 1:20:12pull this one out. All righty, How can BC even get
- 1:20:16up for this game? It's literally like 8 minutes
- 1:20:19from their campus. Like, how do you get up for
- 1:20:22that? Like, Sheldon, you made the
- 1:20:23point. It's a bowl game.
- 1:20:24Send us away. We're supposed to have fun for a
- 1:20:26few days. Give me SMU and SMU big.
- 1:20:34I got to go SMU, man. I just think.
- 1:20:36I just think SMU is the best, better team here.
- 1:20:39So I'm going to go with. Them all righty.
- 1:20:42Boston College is probably the worst ball team team to make a
- 1:20:46ball in the FBS this season, so I don't think it's that close.
- 1:20:48Personally, I'll take SMU all day.
- 1:20:50All righty, man, we are all talking the same language up and
- 1:20:54down this all right? Which one of Y'all picked this
- 1:20:57pinstripe bowl? I think.
- 1:21:01Tally had Russia tally, Tally, you got this one.
- 1:21:04This one's actually right after the Fenway Bowl on the 28th of
- 1:21:09December and Sheldon will let you leave this one.
- 1:21:13Rutgers or Miami? Yeah, I just took Miami off the
- 1:21:16hunch. I think Rutgers has a good
- 1:21:18defense, but don't trust her offense.
- 1:21:20So I'll take ACC for this one, yeah.
- 1:21:24You predicted, Yep, I took. I take Miami on this, kind of
- 1:21:28like, Shelton said. Just I don't.
- 1:21:30Rutgers has a pretty good defense.
- 1:21:32I think Miami has the athletes enough just to play in this game
- 1:21:35and win. All.
- 1:21:38Righty. I'm going against y'all on this
- 1:21:40and I'm going against the ACC on this.
- 1:21:43This game is going to be, and yes, it is close to Rutgers.
- 1:21:46So I'm going against my terminology on BC shit here.
- 1:21:50But it is going to be in New York.
- 1:21:52It is going to probably be yucky.
- 1:21:54It is probably going to be snowing.
- 1:21:56The Miami boys don't want nothing of a good defense and a
- 1:21:59hard hidden game. They will be happy to see the
- 1:22:02city go up to the Empire State Building and do all the touristy
- 1:22:06stuff, but. Then they're going to rock like
- 1:22:08football top of the rock top. Of The Rock First, first, first,
- 1:22:14different one on the board. Give me Rutgers.
- 1:22:17And Curtis, I'm following right there with you and it's got
- 1:22:20really nothing to do with those intangible things.
- 1:22:22It's got to do with the fact that when you look at a defense
- 1:22:28that plays as well that as they do and having a lot of things
- 1:22:32are are kind of trending well for Rutgers right now.
- 1:22:34They just signed up station for Schiano.
- 1:22:37You got Benign Guy back, so he's playing in this bowl game.
- 1:22:40I feel like there's just so many positives for that program.
- 1:22:43I think Miami is kind of trying to figure out who they are
- 1:22:46still, and I think it's going to be Rutgers in a very close one.
- 1:22:50All right. Rutgers very close.
- 1:22:52Are we going over or is? Just going.
- 1:22:54To be ugly. I think it could be ugly.
- 1:22:57OK. All right.
- 1:22:59All right. Next one we got here, going to
- 1:23:01be probably a pretty fun actually.
- 1:23:02We went back-to-back to back. We got the same day, the 28th.
- 1:23:05We ain't doing anything but sipping on and eating a little
- 1:23:09food. NC State, Kansas State at the
- 1:23:12Pop Tarts Bowl. This was one of Shelton's pick
- 1:23:14here. Shelton will get to you and why
- 1:23:16you'd like this match up so much.
- 1:23:18Brian, who you got? Doesn't this have like an edible
- 1:23:21mascot or some shit they? Say it does.
- 1:23:24They said it has an edible, yes there and and the people are
- 1:23:27questioning is it like like they make a giant pop tart?
- 1:23:32I mean, there's a. Lot of questions going on about
- 1:23:34this. I heard that on some podcast the
- 1:23:36other day about Is it a giant edible pop tart?
- 1:23:39You know what, I'm going NC State here.
- 1:23:41I feel like they've they closed the season on a very high note
- 1:23:45and I think they keep that train rolling into the bowl season.
- 1:23:49Yeah, I'm right there with you. And also kind of a it's some
- 1:23:52flux going on at Kansas State with Colin Klein leaving and
- 1:23:58taking the A&M job, A and MOC job with Elko and some other
- 1:24:05things going on at Kansas State as well.
- 1:24:08I saw some headlines, like some of the bullshit going on in
- 1:24:10Kansas State. So yeah, NC State, even though
- 1:24:13they have some bullshit going on too.
- 1:24:17Yeah, give me, give me, give me NC State.
- 1:24:22I'm going to NC State, man. I'm just, hey, I'm saying SEC.
- 1:24:26I'm at ACC, man. We we ride together.
- 1:24:29We die together, right? All righty, Sheldon, you picked
- 1:24:33this one. What intrigued you so much about
- 1:24:35it? Two really solid programs have
- 1:24:37done a good job at at developing players as of late.
- 1:24:40NC State has won ten win season in the history of their program.
- 1:24:44I think that's all the motivation you need.
- 1:24:45They got screwed out of it a couple years ago in that COVID
- 1:24:47canceled game against UCLA, so I think they're going to come up
- 1:24:50with a little bit of motivation to get that ten win season.
- 1:24:54All. Righty again, we are all on the
- 1:24:56same page here. Next we are going to
- 1:25:00Jacksonville and the Gator Bowl, Clemson and Kentucky.
- 1:25:05Tally, you pick this one, Sheldon, who you got for Tally,
- 1:25:09gets in why he wanted to watch this game so bad on Friday the
- 1:25:1229th at noon. Clemson's been playing really
- 1:25:15good football as of late. I think they they've started to
- 1:25:18really come around. So I think I'm going to take
- 1:25:20Clemson. I I think, I think Dabo's going
- 1:25:21to go into this this offseason with a little bit of momentum
- 1:25:24and kind of shut down those those critics early in the
- 1:25:27season. Yeah, I'm going to go Clemson on
- 1:25:31this too. I just like kind of like,
- 1:25:33Sheldon said. Man, I think Clemson people kind
- 1:25:37of wrote them off for dead. I think Clemson still has a good
- 1:25:39program, so I think they have enough to win this game.
- 1:25:43Yeah, I'm with y'all on this one too.
- 1:25:46Give me Clemson, even though I'm sure they have quite a few opt
- 1:25:49outs and everything. Just I I I want to see how
- 1:25:53Kentucky handles because Stoops won't supposed to be there right
- 1:25:56now. Stoops won't supposed to be
- 1:25:59there supposed to be down Texas A&M.
- 1:26:01Get his $20 million a year contract.
- 1:26:04So Gimme Clemson. Yep, I'm.
- 1:26:07I'm riding with the Tigers as well.
- 1:26:10I think it's going to be a tight one.
- 1:26:12But I think, as Shelton said, I feel like the Clemson team kind
- 1:26:16of gelled at the right time of the season.
- 1:26:18They're playing some pretty good football now.
- 1:26:21I think they still have some problems from a roster
- 1:26:25management perspective that they still need to address, but I
- 1:26:29think they've kind of weathered some of the storm of losing, you
- 1:26:33know, their their two coordinators and kind of having
- 1:26:36a down year in terms of the talent cycle.
- 1:26:38So give me Clemson here. All righty, Clemson there.
- 1:26:41All right, let's pop the nuts. Next one up, Let's go down to El
- 1:26:45Paso in the Sun Bowl. I know this is one of Sheldon's
- 1:26:49picks. We'll get to you.
- 1:26:50Why you like it so much, Sheldon.
- 1:26:51But let's roll through it, Brian.
- 1:26:53You got Yeah, I'm taking Notre Dame here.
- 1:26:56I feel like, you know, the last two remaining PAC 12 teams are
- 1:27:00kind of getting picked apart and left for scraps now.
- 1:27:03I just think Notre Dame's going to have more in the tank there.
- 1:27:07Yeah, with the with the departure of Jonathan Smith and
- 1:27:09all the turmoil and DJ you in the portal, even though
- 1:27:14Hartman's not going to play Notre Dame, obviously to a
- 1:27:18point, more talented carries the day.
- 1:27:25Tally Notre. Dame.
- 1:27:27I got to go with Notre Dame on this.
- 1:27:29Just two different trajectories for two different programs right
- 1:27:33now. Got to go with Notre Dame.
- 1:27:35Absolutely, Sheldon. This was one of your picks.
- 1:27:38That was a good top 25 match of a teams they don't really see
- 1:27:41play each other a lot. I think.
- 1:27:44I think Freeman's done a really good job at Notre Dame and I
- 1:27:48like the Fighting Irish in this one.
- 1:27:49I think even though they're both teams don't have their second
- 1:27:51quarterback. I just like Notre Dame's roster
- 1:27:53better. So give me Notre Dame all.
- 1:27:55Righty. Now we go.
- 1:28:00Let's start with some of the bigger ones here we got the
- 1:28:02Cotton Bowl, Mizzou, Ohio State. Brian, I know this one was
- 1:28:06yours, so we'll let you wrap it up at the end.
- 1:28:07But Sheldon, who you got here? Yeah, this one's tough because
- 1:28:11it's sort of like the motivation thing.
- 1:28:13Like is Ohio State motivated to to play this game because they
- 1:28:16didn't make the playoff. I think they are person.
- 1:28:18I think Randy's a great head coach, so they're obviously they
- 1:28:21This is a game where the the recruiting rankings I think will
- 1:28:23win outs. Tally, yeah.
- 1:28:27I'm going to go Ohio State on this one just because I trust
- 1:28:31the coach a little bit more than Mizzou's coach.
- 1:28:34I know that they've quarterbacks already gone from Ohio State,
- 1:28:37kind of like Sheldon said, though I think the recruiting
- 1:28:39rankings just kind of win this game for him.
- 1:28:44I would say that as well, but I'm not because I saw Mizzou
- 1:28:48hang with the recruiting rankings in Georgia, where it
- 1:28:51probably shouldn't have been that close, and I think losing
- 1:28:54Kyle McCord because effectively I don't think Harrison's
- 1:28:59playing. You don't have McCord.
- 1:29:00Yes, they have more talent, but that talent ain't played
- 1:29:03together all year and I don't think 14 bowl practice is
- 1:29:06enough. I do think this will probably be
- 1:29:08an entertaining game beginning Mizzou.
- 1:29:14All right, Curtis, you are riding solo on this one, man.
- 1:29:18I think Mizzou. I think Mizzou punched way above
- 1:29:22their weight class all year. I think this is going to be a
- 1:29:25fall back to earth for them, even with McCord not playing in
- 1:29:28this game. I just think the town's going to
- 1:29:29will out here. All righty.
- 1:29:32So look at that. There's only three differences
- 1:29:35on the whole board, and we started it at the top of the
- 1:29:39show and we're going to end it here tonight, where you start
- 1:29:41with the CFP, New Year's Day 5:00 kick at the Rose Bowl,
- 1:29:49Alabama and Michigan. First of all, the best in and
- 1:29:54they'll show the shot. The reason I want to tech to
- 1:29:57make that game one time is to get there in the stands and see
- 1:30:01the shot. The sun's cresting over the
- 1:30:04hills in the Rose Bowl. They always get that shot.
- 1:30:07It's twilight. It's perfect.
- 1:30:09And I don't know. We we we've talked about it.
- 1:30:14When the and. We've talked about it in the
- 1:30:16past, about making New Year's Day relevant again when the Rose
- 1:30:19Bowl and the Sugar Bowl are the playoff games.
- 1:30:22It makes New Year's Day feel right.
- 1:30:25Not a knock to the other ones when it's on, like, you know
- 1:30:28that Saturday or New Year's Eve. But when it's on New Year's Day
- 1:30:31and it's these two games, it's nostalgia.
- 1:30:34And it takes me back to when I was a kid.
- 1:30:35But now we got to pick them and I do think there's going to be
- 1:30:38some disagreements here. This is Ziegler.
- 1:30:40You shall leave, Sir. I'm going Michigan here.
- 1:30:46Some of this is probably the fuck Bama for making this thing.
- 1:30:50Mindset. That's probably playing a little
- 1:30:53bit. So, you know, ESPN can't admit
- 1:30:56their SEC bias, but I will admit my current bias against Alabama
- 1:30:59here. I'll take Michigan.
- 1:31:02I think the defense is going to be the difference.
- 1:31:05I think the running back is going to be the difference.
- 1:31:08I think that Alabama's just not going to have enough juice at
- 1:31:11the end. And I'm I'm kind of with you on
- 1:31:15that a I'm in the fuck Bama mode as well right now.
- 1:31:18But I'm also in that thing of Bama's offense has hit struggles
- 1:31:22at times this year, right? We've watched them all, like
- 1:31:25there's that USF game and I know that well.
- 1:31:27They were trying to back up and like that's USF.
- 1:31:30That's not a good team, that's not a good team.
- 1:31:34They struggle with other teams as well throughout the year.
- 1:31:37Defensively I think it's a low scoring game and when I say that
- 1:31:422720, Michigan, we know who you picking because you can't get in
- 1:31:48trouble down there. Well, you know, everybody's in
- 1:31:51the Fuck Bummer mode, but Bummer's also in the fuck y'all
- 1:31:54mode, already told everybody that and they're going to go
- 1:31:59win. They're already talking about.
- 1:32:02They talked about early in the season how Jalen Millrose wasn't
- 1:32:05ready. He wasn't the guy that talking
- 1:32:06about him being a Heisman front runner next year and they're
- 1:32:10going to start this in the playoffs.
- 1:32:12They're going to go beat Michigan.
- 1:32:14I don't know if they win it all. I said they win it all joking
- 1:32:16around, but I do think Alabama's going to beat Michigan.
- 1:32:21All righty, Sheldon, where are you at?
- 1:32:24I said a few weeks ago that Michigan is the best in the
- 1:32:26country. Some people on this podcast
- 1:32:28disagreed, but I stand by that comment.
- 1:32:31I think. I think, I think they're going
- 1:32:33to run all over Bama. So give me, give me Michigan.
- 1:32:35Bye, Tuddy. Bye, Tuddy.
- 1:32:37All righty. So Tally riding solo because
- 1:32:40really, because he don't want to get in trouble down there.
- 1:32:42I don't. Want him to play he.
- 1:32:45Will show up at my house. They I do not want that.
- 1:32:47I think that all. Right.
- 1:32:49Let's go to the night time. New Orleans, Bourbon Street, oh
- 1:32:53man, Texas, Washington. I think this will be the more
- 1:32:56entertaining of the games you want.
- 1:32:58You want old school football? Go to Rose Bowl.
- 1:33:00This is going to be more the entertaining of the games.
- 1:33:02Sugar Bowl. Undefeated Washington, TX with
- 1:33:06one loss. Show them who you got.
- 1:33:09So I'm going Washington on a hunch, even though I think Texas
- 1:33:13has a better roster and more star power.
- 1:33:17I just. I don't know.
- 1:33:18I just. I really like Washington's
- 1:33:19coach, Caitlin de Boer, and I think they're going to pull out
- 1:33:22a close win by the hair of their chin.
- 1:33:23But they will get crushed in the national title game regardless.
- 1:33:29What about you, Chef Sally I. Kind of agree with Shelton on
- 1:33:32that. You know, I'm going to
- 1:33:33Washington every time I've picked against them this year.
- 1:33:36They they he'd done something crazy to win a game.
- 1:33:39But one of my best friends is a Texas fan and he's he's going to
- 1:33:42the game. So I asked him about it a little
- 1:33:44bit and he said their quarterbacks struggling because
- 1:33:48that shoulder injury has prevented him from pushing the
- 1:33:52ball down the field a lot. And I think they've got somebody
- 1:33:55else hurt. Brooks I think is is hurt as
- 1:33:57well or injured. So they got a couple of people
- 1:33:59that's banged up. You know, hopefully they can get
- 1:34:01back and be ready for the game. But I just took Washington
- 1:34:04because of the talk that me and him had.
- 1:34:07All righty, and I'm actually with y'all on that.
- 1:34:10I'm taking Washington as well. I probably watch more Washington
- 1:34:15games than maybe any other this year because I watched the Tack
- 1:34:1812. I watch the original Oregon
- 1:34:20game, I watch some of the Apple Cup.
- 1:34:21I've watched a lot of their games and the one thing they
- 1:34:24ain't afraid to do is they push that ball down.
- 1:34:27And a lot of people are saying, well, Texas's line's going to
- 1:34:29stop running. They ain't going to try to run
- 1:34:31the ball. They going to say we going to
- 1:34:33air it out like we've been doing all year and Pennixes can put it
- 1:34:37on a dime. I think they win.
- 1:34:39I think it's a high scoring affair.
- 1:34:42I don't think they get crushed the national championship game,
- 1:34:44but I think, you know, they compete.
- 1:34:48But eventually talent wins. Ryan, I'm the only one riding
- 1:34:54with Texas. Man welcome.
- 1:34:58I I think that Texas is the more well-rounded team.
- 1:35:02I feel like Washington is a little too one-dimensional and I
- 1:35:05think against this caliber opponent, it's going to be tough
- 1:35:08to to overcome that. I will say out of the four teams
- 1:35:12that's in the playoffs, I would love to see Texas win it over
- 1:35:16anybody else. I'm.
- 1:35:18I'm I'm against you on that. I'd like to see Washington win
- 1:35:20it. I would.
- 1:35:24Washington would give you hope because if Washington wins it,
- 1:35:28there's hope for every There's hope for every team in the top
- 1:35:3350 that you can win a national championship.
- 1:35:35Curtis, I'm ABB, but I'm not making Transformers.
- 1:35:37Anybody but Bama. Anybody.
- 1:35:40Bama. They can already win them all,
- 1:35:44right? Anything.
- 1:35:45Breaking in the last. By the way, just so y'all the
- 1:35:50Washington pick. Y'all know Kaylin Deborah's
- 1:35:52total overall record. He's been a head coach for 16,
- 1:35:55seven, 819 seasons now. Yes, I do know it actually.
- 1:35:59Y'all know it. I know it now. 103 and 11.
- 1:36:06That's crazy. That man wins at every level,
- 1:36:09All right, Anything breaking Brian, Tadley, Shelton, anything
- 1:36:12popped up on Twitter while we have sat here for an hour and 37
- 1:36:16minutes. We did good to my boys.
- 1:36:18Not. That I've seen, man, Not that
- 1:36:19I've seen, I haven't. Seen nothing, all right.
- 1:36:21So unfortunately, 10 days from now Shelton won't be able to
- 1:36:25join us. But 10 days from now?
