- 0:54uh,
- 0:54I think something you will enjoy at predictableshow.com.
- 0:57Let's get going.
- 1:12You know,
- 1:13when I started working in prediction markets in I think 2014 was the first time I ever
- 1:19got involved at all in prediction markets.
- 1:22Nobody wanted to talk about them.
- 1:23No one cared about them.
- 1:25Uh,
- 1:25they were not interesting to people,
- 1:27to human beings.
- 1:28I would try to talk to my friends about them and they,
- 1:31they thought I was a loser,
- 1:32and they still think I'm a loser,
- 1:34but for totally different reasons.
- 1:35Now,
- 1:35why?
- 1:36Because prediction markets are everywhere,
- 1:38right?
- 1:38Everyone's talking about them all the time.
- 1:40In fact,
- 1:40there's a new Netflix documentary even out about them,
- 1:43uh,
- 1:44called The Prediction Games.
- 1:45It is out on Netflix now.
- 1:46It's the,
- 1:47I think it's number 9
- 1:48on,
- 1:48uh,
- 1:49the,
- 1:49uh,
- 1:49on prediction on,
- 1:50uh,
- 1:51uh,
- 1:51Netflix TV
- 1:53right now.
- 1:53Uh,
- 1:54and,
- 1:54you know,
- 1:55look,
- 1:55that is not something that I think we would have seen back in 2014,
- 1:58most certainly.
- 1:59Uh,
- 1:59there has been a massive rise of prediction markets,
- 2:01and people are very interested in them.
- 2:03They wanna see
- 2:04how they work.
- 2:05They wanna see,
- 2:06uh,
- 2:06whether they can profit off of prediction markets,
- 2:09whether their opinions are worth,
- 2:12uh,
- 2:12you know,
- 2:12the,
- 2:13the,
- 2:13the,
- 2:13the paper they're written on,
- 2:15right?
- 2:16Um,
- 2:16and that is a,
- 2:17a pretty normal instinct,
- 2:18right?
- 2:19We,
- 2:19as human beings kind of wanna know whether what we think is right,
- 2:23and a lot of times we think that it is.
- 2:25One of the things that they talk about in this documentary is exactly that.
- 2:29What prediction markets do
- 2:31is put you in a position where you're not just running your mouth,
- 2:34you actually are putting your money where your mouth is.
- 2:37And when you do that,
- 2:38you need to make sure your beliefs about the future
- 2:41are a little more grounded in reality,
- 2:43because if you're just kind of whimsically out there
- 2:46with your wrong opinions,
- 2:47uh,
- 2:48you are going to lose money.
- 2:50And I will say,
- 2:52I think it's one of the things we do here at Predictable,
- 2:54a public service to the world.
- 2:57We help
- 2:59refine
- 3:01what people believe about the future.
- 3:03We do it on a day to day basis.
- 3:05Some people think,
- 3:06oh,
- 3:06this candidate's gonna win,
- 3:07and we say,
- 3:08I got news for you.
- 3:08Yeah,
- 3:09he's got a lot of retweets.
- 3:10He's not gonna win.
- 3:12And we come in there and we say,
- 3:13you know what we're gonna do,
- 3:13we're gonna put our money where our mouth is on that.
- 3:16And we're going to show you,
- 3:18uh,
- 3:18what,
- 3:19what we believe,
- 3:20and we're gonna put our money on the line to show if that's right or wrong.
- 3:23And,
- 3:23and if we're wrong,
- 3:25we're gonna get slapped in the face.
- 3:26That's one of the great things I think about prediction markets,
- 3:28and I really do think it's a public service.
- 3:30People believe all sorts of crazy crap right now.
- 3:33They believe all sorts of crazy crap,
- 3:35and they just say it as if it's fact all the time.
- 3:37And you know what,
- 3:39if they're right,
- 3:40great,
- 3:41then they win.
- 3:42But if we're right,
- 3:44then we win.
- 3:44And guess what?
- 3:45We've been right
- 3:46many more times than we have been wrong so far
- 3:49as we've been building this community behind the scenes.
- 3:51Um,
- 3:51I mentioned the paid tier that we have now,
- 3:53which is,
- 3:53you know,
- 3:54growing really,
- 3:54really quickly.
- 3:55We're the number 4,
- 3:57sub-stack in the business category right now,
- 3:59uh,
- 4:00in the,
- 4:00in their rising charts.
- 4:02And the reason for that is because people look at prediction markets and say,
- 4:05I,
- 4:05I,
- 4:05I,
- 4:05I wanna learn about them.
- 4:07I wanna get involved and I'd,
- 4:08I,
- 4:08if,
- 4:08if possible,
- 4:09I'd like to not lose,
- 4:11right?
- 4:11And so we've been able to do that for a while.
- 4:13If,
- 4:13if you could join us there,
- 4:14it would be great.
- 4:15We'd love to have you.
- 4:16This documentary,
- 4:18it was interesting the way that it was promoted.
- 4:19Let me give you kind of the story from the beginning.
- 4:21A new Insta doc uh dives into the booming
- 4:23bet on anything world
- 4:25of prediction markets.
- 4:26I have strong feelings as to whether bet is the appropriate word there,
- 4:29but we will
- 4:30get into that maybe at a later time.
- 4:32Let me give you a click,
- 4:32a quick clip about what this looks like.
- 4:35Uh,
- 4:36this is the documentary,
- 4:37and this is kind of sort of how it was promoted to everybody
- 4:40before it came out,
- 4:41which caused a lot of controversy,
- 4:43including legal proceedings.
- 4:44Let me show you the clip.
- 4:52Today we're watching Argentina and Spain in the World Cup final.
- 4:55We're in Las Vegas,
- 4:56Nevada at the Mirage Mega Mansion.
- 5:00The guys in this house
- 5:01have made millions of dollars
- 5:03on prediction markets,
- 5:05probably 8 figures just over the course of the World Cup.
- 5:08I like betting on Caly,
- 5:10training on poly market.
- 5:11I put $5000
- 5:13on
- 5:14Spain to win the whole thing.
- 5:18If Argentina wins,
- 5:19I'll be on $30,000.
- 5:20Like when you wake up,
- 5:21you gotta put on your lucky underwear,
- 5:23eat like a good luck meal,
- 5:26listen to your favorite song,
- 5:27take a deep breath,
- 5:28say a prayer.
- 5:30I think prediction markers are low key taking over the world.
- 5:38That's kind of,
- 5:39I don't know what kind of got used as the trailer.
- 5:41It's,
- 5:41it's the beginning of the documentary,
- 5:42a couple of minutes.
- 5:44And what you see there,
- 5:44what was interesting initially was the reaction
- 5:46from sort of the prediction market community,
- 5:48which,
- 5:49if you will,
- 5:50which is there's a lot of people that you know.
- 5:52We talked to Scottylicious yesterday,
- 5:54uh,
- 5:55who is a guy,
- 5:56uh,
- 5:56well known in the trading community,
- 5:58made a couple of million dollars on,
- 6:00uh,
- 6:01prediction markets.
- 6:02He's really well known.
- 6:03When,
- 6:03when you,
- 6:04if you were to say that name,
- 6:04if you were to put him in that documentary,
- 6:06people would be like,
- 6:07oh,
- 6:07I know who that guy is.
- 6:08What the first reaction was really uh
- 6:10from the prediction market community was like,
- 6:12who are these guys?
- 6:13Like they're being this,
- 6:14they're the center of a Netflix documentary where they're gonna show them
- 6:17on the World Cup.
- 6:17Who are these guys?
- 6:18It turns out,
- 6:19and they kind of revealed this in in the um
- 6:22in the documentary.
- 6:24That they are quite a part of a big,
- 6:25um,
- 6:26sports betting community,
- 6:27uh,
- 6:28but really not central to prediction markets.
- 6:30Like they,
- 6:31you know,
- 6:31they're,
- 6:31they're in Vegas.
- 6:32One of the big issues here in Calci was very
- 6:34upset about this because of the way that it was
- 6:36promoted.
- 6:37A guy said,
- 6:37oh,
- 6:37I,
- 6:38you know,
- 6:38I bet on Calhi,
- 6:39you know,
- 6:40in the World Cup,
- 6:41and he's in Nevada.
- 6:43Calci is,
- 6:44you know,
- 6:44of the prediction markets is
- 6:46The one that kind of started regulation first,
- 6:48like they went through the government,
- 6:49all those processes.
- 6:51They say even in the documentary,
- 6:52they had 4 years of regulation
- 6:54before they really could even release their main product,
- 6:57um,
- 6:57because of all the pushback legally
- 7:00that they were receiving initially,
- 7:02they wound up winning and that's why kind of these things are everywhere.
- 7:05Um,
- 7:05Kyle,
- 7:05she accuses Netflix of misleading viewers in a new prediction market documentary.
- 7:11And they said they were,
- 7:12uh,
- 7:12they had a cease and desist letter
- 7:14to Netflix that they sent a couple of days before this came out.
- 7:17And
- 7:18based on that clip,
- 7:19you could kind of
- 7:20understand why.
- 7:21Because
- 7:22it's being promoted as this sort of crazy,
- 7:25uh,
- 7:25you know,
- 7:25everyone's just online with $50,000 on a,
- 7:28uh,
- 7:28on a soccer match
- 7:30in Nevada,
- 7:31which it's not,
- 7:32you know,
- 7:32they're gonna lose this lawsuit in Nevada,
- 7:34but as of right now,
- 7:35Calci has paused operations there because Nevada's tried to say,
- 7:38well,
- 7:39we're gonna,
- 7:39we're gonna ban
- 7:40prediction markets
- 7:41in this state.
- 7:43Now,
- 7:44Just a,
- 7:44uh,
- 7:45a,
- 7:45a,
- 7:45a quick step aside here,
- 7:47uh,
- 7:47if I may do a sidebar,
- 7:48Your Honor.
- 7:50How ridiculous is it?
- 7:52How pathetic is it that Nevada of all freaking states
- 7:57would be like,
- 7:57oh gosh,
- 7:58we think it's irresponsible for people to go on prediction markets.
- 8:01Do you?
- 8:02Do you,
- 8:03uh,
- 8:03home of the bunny Ranch?
- 8:05Do you,
- 8:06do you,
- 8:07uh,
- 8:07home of every casino.
- 8:08Look,
- 8:09I have no problem with,
- 8:10with gambling.
- 8:11I like going to casinos.
- 8:12I enjoy spending a few bucks there,
- 8:14usually losing.
- 8:16Uh,
- 8:16I don't enjoy bunny ranches.
- 8:17I don't,
- 8:18never attended one.
- 8:20I mean,
- 8:20there's a couple of times,
- 8:21but,
- 8:21no,
- 8:21no,
- 8:21I'm not kidding.
- 8:22Uh,
- 8:22it's not my thing,
- 8:23right?
- 8:24I,
- 8:24some of Vegas I like.
- 8:26I will say,
- 8:27Vegas is fun.
- 8:28Uh,
- 8:28Nevada's a,
- 8:29a,
- 8:29a cool state.
- 8:30They have a lot of great people who live there,
- 8:31but let's be honest about it for a second.
- 8:33There's no,
- 8:34there's no,
- 8:35uh,
- 8:35holier than thou coming from,
- 8:37uh,
- 8:37the freaking state of Nevada when it comes to gambling.
- 8:40This is,
- 8:41of course,
- 8:42instead to protect entrenched interests in Nevada,
- 8:46who want to,
- 8:48don't like the fact
- 8:49that
- 8:50people on Calci,
- 8:51people on Polymarket were getting better prices,
- 8:54we're having a better experience,
- 8:56uh,
- 8:57than going to,
- 8:58uh,
- 8:58their sports books.
- 8:59And,
- 9:00you know,
- 9:00look,
- 9:00there is some crossover,
- 9:01of course,
- 9:02you can
- 9:03buy an event contract,
- 9:04uh,
- 9:04when it comes to uh sporting events.
- 9:06I,
- 9:06I,
- 9:07you know,
- 9:07I do it myself from time to time.
- 9:09Uh,
- 9:09it's not,
- 9:10not the central reason I'm interested in prediction markets,
- 9:12honestly.
- 9:13Uh,
- 9:13I understand why some people really do like it.
- 9:15And,
- 9:15you know,
- 9:16for people who look at that as the exact same,
- 9:18we don't.
- 9:19But if you happen to be someone who looks at,
- 9:20oh gosh,
- 9:21that's gambling and that's gambling,
- 9:22well,
- 9:22you know,
- 9:22calcium and polymarket give you a much better experience,
- 9:25right?
- 9:25You don't have to deal with a house.
- 9:26You're not gonna get limited if you're good at it.
- 9:29You know,
- 9:30like,
- 9:31it was a lot of these,
- 9:32uh,
- 9:32not everyone's the same,
- 9:33uh,
- 9:34but some of these,
- 9:35uh,
- 9:35gambling places will say like,
- 9:36oh gosh,
- 9:37well this person keeps winning,
- 9:38let's let them only
- 9:39bet $50 on a game.
- 9:41Calcium polymer,
- 9:42you can go in there if you're smart and,
- 9:43and,
- 9:43and you can get that information and you can,
- 9:47whatever,
- 9:47distill that information into a,
- 9:49a,
- 9:49a,
- 9:49a,
- 9:49a position with an edge,
- 9:50you're gonna wind up being
- 9:52on the right side of things.
- 9:53That is,
- 9:53uh,
- 9:54that's the type of thing that happens,
- 9:55uh,
- 9:56and you do,
- 9:56you're not gonna get limited
- 9:58at calcium or polymarkets.
- 9:59So,
- 10:00or any of the other prediction markets for that matter,
- 10:02you know,
- 10:02this is a
- 10:03Uh,
- 10:03a commodities futures trading,
- 10:05uh,
- 10:06uh,
- 10:06index.
- 10:07It's a,
- 10:07it's a,
- 10:08it's a network of people trading with each other.
- 10:10And so that's why this is,
- 10:11there's an advantage there.
- 10:12So,
- 10:13I understand why
- 10:14there's a sexiness to
- 10:16Vegas,
- 10:17parties,
- 10:17gambling,
- 10:18uh,
- 10:18you know,
- 10:18all of that,
- 10:19and I understand why they might have led with that.
- 10:21The documentary itself though,
- 10:22really didn't spend much time.
- 10:23What you saw there
- 10:25was the vast majority of the time you spent with these guys in Vegas,
- 10:29uh,
- 10:30who were betting on the World Cup,
- 10:31in their words.
- 10:33Um,
- 10:34I,
- 10:35I don't know why they promoted it that way other than it was just good footage,
- 10:38right?
- 10:38Uh,
- 10:39that's kind of how they did it.
- 10:40What,
- 10:40what they got into there,
- 10:41it's about a 40-minute documentary,
- 10:43and I would say just something,
- 10:44you know,
- 10:44a spoiler alert,
- 10:45it's,
- 10:45I think it's worth your time,
- 10:47uh,
- 10:47you know,
- 10:47to spoil,
- 10:48spoil my own review here.
- 10:50I think it's worth your time.
- 10:51If you're interested in prediction markets,
- 10:52wanna learn a little bit about it.
- 10:53Um,
- 10:54I don't feel
- 10:55like it was a,
- 10:57a,
- 10:58a complete hatchet job on prediction markets,
- 11:00which most of these things are.
- 11:02There were definitely times where they took
- 11:04positions that I think were questionable.
- 11:06There were definitely times,
- 11:08uh,
- 11:08where did we go,
- 11:09uh,
- 11:09where,
- 11:10you know,
- 11:11they,
- 11:12uh,
- 11:13they've
- 11:14aired views about prediction markets that I
- 11:16didn't think were necessarily added to it,
- 11:17but they covered the main points.
- 11:19And it was well produced and they had a great list of guests.
- 11:22Uh,
- 11:22they had,
- 11:23uh,
- 11:23the author of The Wisdom of Crowds,
- 11:25which
- 11:26is sort of looked back at as sort of beginning of mainstream prediction markets.
- 11:31They did have prediction markets before that.
- 11:32There was a,
- 11:33a big story about,
- 11:34uh,
- 11:34DARPA.
- 11:34They actually talked about this.
- 11:35I've talked about it on the air here,
- 11:36but they also talked about it in the documentary where
- 11:38the military was like,
- 11:39hey,
- 11:39how can we,
- 11:40you know,
- 11:40how can we figure out what,
- 11:41what threats are coming our way?
- 11:43Uh,
- 11:44a prediction market would be a good way of doing that.
- 11:45They had one in Iowa before that.
- 11:47Uh,
- 11:48that was mainly about politics,
- 11:50but generally speaking,
- 11:50the sort of start of the mainstreaming of prediction markets
- 11:54is thought to be this book Wisdom of Crowds,
- 11:56which talked about how the wisdom of crowds is often
- 11:58smarter than the smartest expert,
- 12:00right?
- 12:01Um,
- 12:02and prediction markets have a great way of distilling that
- 12:04information into a way into something that people can understand,
- 12:07benefit from,
- 12:08hedge against their,
- 12:09you know,
- 12:09with their business interests,
- 12:10whatever the,
- 12:11the end of that story is.
- 12:12So he was in there.
- 12:13uh,
- 12:14Tarek Mansur from,
- 12:15uh,
- 12:15he's the CEO of Calci,
- 12:16he was in the documentary.
- 12:18Shane Copland,
- 12:19uh,
- 12:19the,
- 12:19uh,
- 12:19CEO of Poly Market,
- 12:21was in the documentary,
- 12:22and again they weren't.
- 12:24Uh,
- 12:25set up as the ultimate villains,
- 12:27I didn't think.
- 12:28You know,
- 12:29uh,
- 12:29uh,
- 12:29you know,
- 12:29uh,
- 12:30Turk Mansour had a really,
- 12:31uh,
- 12:32great point about,
- 12:33uh,
- 12:33how these,
- 12:34uh,
- 12:35how the Biden,
- 12:36uh,
- 12:37it was actually Shane Copland,
- 12:37I think,
- 12:38talked about the Biden debate.
- 12:39Um,
- 12:40Turk Mansour had a great point as well in,
- 12:42in this,
- 12:42in this general vicinity talking about how prediction markets just do a better job,
- 12:46uh,
- 12:46at getting this information to people.
- 12:48Um,
- 12:48and it is,
- 12:49you know,
- 12:50you don't think of it this way when you're on
- 12:51prediction markets and you're putting a position down on a,
- 12:54on an election.
- 12:55You are helping.
- 12:56The rest of the country understand this election better.
- 13:00You are participating in a process
- 13:02that delivers information,
- 13:03by the way,
- 13:04for completely for free to everybody else,
- 13:07that,
- 13:07uh,
- 13:07a,
- 13:07a better way of distilling information than ever before.
- 13:10When
- 13:11Biden,
- 13:12I mean,
- 13:12I saw it,
- 13:13I was here.
- 13:13I was in
- 13:14the next,
- 13:15uh,
- 13:15I was actually in this studio right over here,
- 13:17I think it was,
- 13:17or no,
- 13:18it was that one actually.
- 13:19And then we were in the studio and we were
- 13:20covering this election and I'm sitting around this table.
- 13:22I was hosting the debate coverage.
- 13:24We got a great panel around us from Blaze TV
- 13:27and we're sitting here and we're watching this election or this debate go down.
- 13:31And,
- 13:31you know,
- 13:32Donald Trump comes out
- 13:33and then
- 13:34Joe Biden walks out
- 13:36to that mic.
- 13:37And as he's walking out to the mic,
- 13:38I'm looking,
- 13:39I'm watching this and I'm like,
- 13:40what the hell is going on?
- 13:41What is wrong with this guy?
- 13:42You could tell from the minute he walked out on stage
- 13:46that something was really,
- 13:47really
- 13:48wrong.
- 13:49And I,
- 13:50if I'm not mistaken,
- 13:51I have to look back at my trading records exactly,
- 13:52but I,
- 13:53I remember in the middle of that debate,
- 13:54picking up that phone and picking up one of the apps and be like,
- 13:56oh my gosh,
- 13:57it's time.
- 13:57I gotta start clicking around here because
- 13:59something's wrong with this guy.
- 14:01Something is wrong
- 14:02with Joe Biden.
- 14:03He went into those moments and he stuttered and he stammered and
- 14:06he looked like he hadn't had a coherent thought in 15 years,
- 14:09and,
- 14:11After the,
- 14:11uh,
- 14:12the debate ended,
- 14:13you had people going on television,
- 14:15you know,
- 14:16mostly Democrats saying,
- 14:17well,
- 14:18you know,
- 14:18I mean,
- 14:18look,
- 14:19he was just,
- 14:20look,
- 14:20Donald Trump was lying a lot,
- 14:21and no one's noticing that.
- 14:23Where are people saying that?
- 14:24I think,
- 14:24you know,
- 14:24I think Joe Biden held his own.
- 14:26Sure,
- 14:26he stumbled a little bit here and there.
- 14:28Jill Biden is out there
- 14:30debating,
- 14:30uh,
- 14:31backing him.
- 14:32I remember watching Kamala Harris with Anderson Cooper that night.
- 14:35You know,
- 14:35I think Joe did an excellent job.
- 14:36He,
- 14:36you know,
- 14:37he had a couple of moments,
- 14:38you know,
- 14:38everyone has those moments.
- 14:40Uh,
- 14:40but I think Joe,
- 14:41generally speaking,
- 14:41he had the,
- 14:42much better arguments and blah blah,
- 14:43blah blah blah blah,
- 14:44and we heard this nonsense.
- 14:47It everyone knew it was nonsense.
- 14:50And we were told by the media,
- 14:52by that campaign,
- 14:53that everything was fine,
- 14:55by his wife,
- 14:56that everything was fine,
- 14:57even though we now know in her own book,
- 14:59she knew it wasn't fine.
- 15:01They were lying to you over and over and over and over again.
- 15:05You know who told you the truth?
- 15:07The prediction markets.
- 15:09There was no polling.
- 15:11There was nothing else,
- 15:11you,
- 15:12you could look and read Twitter and and whatever side you
- 15:15were on probably had a great reaction to benefit your side.
- 15:19But you know who didn't care about that at all?
- 15:21Calci,
- 15:21Polymarket.
- 15:23They predict it.
- 15:25Those people were like,
- 15:26whoa,
- 15:26holy crap,
- 15:27did you just see that?
- 15:28Because that was the truth.
- 15:30And there was a benefit
- 15:32to the truth coming
- 15:33to the people
- 15:34faster
- 15:35than the media would provide it,
- 15:36and that uh campaigns would provide it.
- 15:39This is a,
- 15:40was a massive public service in that moment,
- 15:43and we saw the benefits of that as we went forward.
- 15:45We understood the world a lot better,
- 15:47a lot faster.
- 15:48And so,
- 15:49that is,
- 15:49of course,
- 15:49the utility to the public
- 15:51that these things bring.
- 15:52They really,
- 15:53this is a real thing,
- 15:54it really does happen,
- 15:55it really does get you that information faster than a poll,
- 15:57faster than anything else.
- 15:58The only thing that can honestly beat it is your own eyeballs,
- 16:01and your own brain.
- 16:03And if you were on prediction markets,
- 16:04you can potentially profit from that,
- 16:07right?
- 16:07Um,
- 16:08but we all knew what was happening in that moment.
- 16:11We all,
- 16:11I mean,
- 16:11I said it on the air that night,
- 16:13this is over.
- 16:14How can he recover from that?
- 16:17That was the worst performance in a debate I've ever seen.
- 16:21You think,
- 16:22you,
- 16:22you,
- 16:22you think that Nixon was bad?
- 16:24Come on.
- 16:24And this was a catastrophe.
- 16:26And of course,
- 16:26it played out in a catastrophic way for his campaign.
- 16:29I'd argue a good way for the country,
- 16:31but that's a whole another story.
- 16:33Uh,
- 16:33they also had,
- 16:34uh,
- 16:34you know,
- 16:34some
- 16:35prominent critics.
- 16:35They had Michael Selig from the CFTC who we've talked to on this program before,
- 16:38the head of the CFTC,
- 16:40uh,
- 16:40top trader,
- 16:41Caleb,
- 16:41uh,
- 16:42Davies,
- 16:42who's,
- 16:42uh,
- 16:42who was in there.
- 16:43So it was,
- 16:43they had a great,
- 16:45uh,
- 16:46roster of guests in this documentary.
- 16:48Um,
- 16:48and
- 16:49they go through a few of the big things that,
- 16:52that people talk about often.
- 16:54You know,
- 16:54you have the,
- 16:55the 19 year old guy who's eating pizza on his couch,
- 16:58who lost $1000.
- 17:00And,
- 17:00you know,
- 17:01uh,
- 17:01you look at that and you say,
- 17:02OK,
- 17:02well,
- 17:03that's not a great outcome.
- 17:04You don't necessarily want people to do that.
- 17:05I would say they were trying to paint him to kind of
- 17:08be
- 17:08kind of an idiot.
- 17:09I don't know that he is an idiot.
- 17:10Um,
- 17:11I will say that the bigger idiot was the,
- 17:13uh,
- 17:13roommate that after he lost the $1000
- 17:16allowed him to borrow another $1100 from him
- 17:19that
- 17:19they didn't feature him.
- 17:20He didn't want to be on camera
- 17:21after that decision.
- 17:22Uh,
- 17:23but,
- 17:23you know,
- 17:23look,
- 17:24there are of course going to be people who lose money on prediction markets.
- 17:28Um,
- 17:28that does happen.
- 17:30I don't want you to be one of them,
- 17:31which is one of the reasons this company exists.
- 17:33Uh,
- 17:33we do this show on a day to day basis.
- 17:35We have the PredictableShow.com site because we want
- 17:39people to be able to look at this,
- 17:40not as some risky thing as they're throwing around money and taking crazy,
- 17:44uh,
- 17:44shots at stuff,
- 17:45but a way to actually,
- 17:46uh,
- 17:47profit off the knowledge that you have,
- 17:49right?
- 17:49The understanding that you have.
- 17:50You've probably,
- 17:51if you're like me,
- 17:52have built a very,
- 17:53very long,
- 17:54detailed
- 17:56understanding.
- 17:57Of,
- 17:58let's say,
- 17:58politics.
- 17:59And you know how people react and you've seen these
- 18:02senators do these annoying things time after time after time.
- 18:06And you,
- 18:06you could say while the,
- 18:08uh,
- 18:09government and the news and,
- 18:10and everybody else is telling you that,
- 18:11uh,
- 18:12you know,
- 18:13uh,
- 18:13endgame A is gonna play out when you know it's endgame B.
- 18:18You're able to not only
- 18:20Uh,
- 18:21profit off of that,
- 18:22but more importantly,
- 18:23dissolve the nonsensical crap that comes out of the media on a day to day basis.
- 18:28They,
- 18:29the internet did this pretty well,
- 18:31where they were able to take on the,
- 18:33the three networks and present a,
- 18:35a much more realistic,
- 18:36uh,
- 18:37version of the world to the American people,
- 18:40or at least cut through the lies that were coming through the mainstream media.
- 18:43And,
- 18:44you know,
- 18:44the,
- 18:45you know,
- 18:45that does happen still.
- 18:47Um,
- 18:47it's not perfect,
- 18:48it's not a perfect system.
- 18:50This just improves that system.
- 18:51Prediction markets are able to cut through that like nothing else.
- 18:54They did do the dark side,
- 18:55and this is,
- 18:56I,
- 18:56I actually,
- 18:57I didn't realize this at the time,
- 18:59but this is something I mentioned to Scottylicious as I was talking to him,
- 19:03a top trader on Polymarket just yesterday.
- 19:06You know,
- 19:06here's the three questions I'm like legally required to ask you.
- 19:10Uh,
- 19:10go back and watch that interview.
- 19:11I think you'll really,
- 19:11really like it.
- 19:12The great insight from him.
- 19:14But
- 19:15every prediction
- 19:16market piece of media has to have these three questions addressed.
- 19:19Well,
- 19:20wait,
- 19:20wait a minute,
- 19:20uh,
- 19:21you know,
- 19:21uh,
- 19:22is it,
- 19:22what about insider trading?
- 19:24Insider trading is a bit of a complicated issue.
- 19:26They go to it,
- 19:26in,
- 19:27in here.
- 19:27People,
- 19:28uh,
- 19:28there are really
- 19:30big examples of this.
- 19:31The one,
- 19:31the worst example that I can come up with
- 19:32is the one about Venezuela where someone inside the military
- 19:36was,
- 19:36um,
- 19:37uh,
- 19:37trying to make money off of the potential removal of Nicolas Maduro.
- 19:41Um,
- 19:42that,
- 19:42of course,
- 19:43uh,
- 19:43could have cost lives,
- 19:45right?
- 19:45If you're moving a market and giving that information early,
- 19:47which is what prediction markets do,
- 19:50uh,
- 19:50it could have cost,
- 19:51uh,
- 19:52American military lives.
- 19:53So,
- 19:53really,
- 19:54really bad.
- 19:54Obviously he's been arrested for this,
- 19:56even though that those trades happened on an overseas exchange.
- 19:59He was still arrested for this,
- 20:01and rightly so.
- 20:02Uh,
- 20:02there's also,
- 20:03uh,
- 20:03you know,
- 20:04examples of insider trading on less important information or less,
- 20:07uh,
- 20:08urgent information,
- 20:09less inform
- 20:10information that doesn't put lives at risk.
- 20:12At times,
- 20:12I think can be viewed
- 20:14in a way that it does make these markets more efficient.
- 20:17If your end goal is to get the best information to the,
- 20:19to the public,
- 20:20let's say you're talking about,
- 20:21uh,
- 20:22survivor.
- 20:23Um,
- 20:23the idea that an insider on the survivor
- 20:26set that knows the winner gets that information
- 20:28to the prediction markets and makes money off of it
- 20:30does
- 20:31more efficiently deliver that information to the American people.
- 20:34And you might say,
- 20:35well,
- 20:35uh,
- 20:35you know,
- 20:36that person is profiting off of that,
- 20:37and other people are on the wrong side of that trade.
- 20:39Well,
- 20:39those people would have been on the wrong side of the trade anyway.
- 20:41It's not like the,
- 20:42the outcome was changed.
- 20:43Uh,
- 20:44it's just that it hit them a little bit harder and this guy made more of a profit.
- 20:47Uh,
- 20:47if that's what he was doing,
- 20:49there are some allegations,
- 20:50uh,
- 20:50of that happening on that,
- 20:51uh,
- 20:52allegedly on that show,
- 20:53uh,
- 20:53but regardless,
- 20:54if that does happen,
- 20:55you're
- 20:56making all sorts of risks because that behavior is illegal in the United States
- 21:00and you are not only risking,
- 21:02uh,
- 21:02your,
- 21:02uh,
- 21:03livelihood with your job,
- 21:04but you're
- 21:05risking real legal consequences,
- 21:07uh,
- 21:07with the CFTC,
- 21:08which is a,
- 21:09uh,
- 21:09federally,
- 21:09you know,
- 21:10um,
- 21:10regulated.
- 21:11Uh,
- 21:13organization,
- 21:13they can come and they can give you hell for that.
- 21:16So that's insider trading.
- 21:17Then they had gaming the system.
- 21:18Uh,
- 21:19that was the idea of the story which,
- 21:21frankly,
- 21:22you know,
- 21:22it was just amazing and shouldn't,
- 21:23you know,
- 21:23this is something that these exchanges need to crack down on when it does happen.
- 21:27But the guy who was doing a weather market
- 21:29went to the airport allegedly with a hair dryer
- 21:32and heated up the temperature,
- 21:34uh,
- 21:34the thermometer,
- 21:35so that the temperature would spike,
- 21:37and he made money
- 21:38on,
- 21:38I think it was a poly market.
- 21:40Again,
- 21:40these,
- 21:41those stories are really rare,
- 21:42you know,
- 21:43they're fun to talk about.
- 21:44We're gonna have a segment coming up
- 21:45called Stranger Trades where weird stuff happens
- 21:47in,
- 21:48uh,
- 21:48prediction markets.
- 21:49I like talking about that stuff because it's interesting
- 21:52and we are in
- 21:53uh the,
- 21:54the,
- 21:54the,
- 21:54the beginnings of this industry.
- 21:56If you're watching a show like Predictable right now,
- 21:58you're way ahead of everybody else.
- 22:00Like,
- 22:00uh,
- 22:01it's,
- 22:01it's ridiculous.
- 22:02People,
- 22:02you know,
- 22:03people don't even understand what these markets are.
- 22:05And you're sitting here watching a show,
- 22:06dissecting them on a day to day basis.
- 22:08You know,
- 22:08we started the show knowing that most people don't really have the awareness,
- 22:12uh,
- 22:12on a day to day basis to understand
- 22:15everything we're gonna be talking about.
- 22:16I'm OK with that.
- 22:17I think you're OK with it.
- 22:18We'll try to walk each other through this and,
- 22:20and learn from each other,
- 22:21but like,
- 22:22you know,
- 22:22I understand that that we're early on this,
- 22:24and I'm fine with it.
- 22:26Um,
- 22:26I'm excited to be early on something like this.
- 22:28And because we're early,
- 22:30these markets are also getting new and weird threats that they
- 22:33have to deal with on a day to day basis.
- 22:35You know,
- 22:35these,
- 22:35these organizations have dumped millions and millions
- 22:38and millions of dollars to try to catch
- 22:40these types of things
- 22:42before they happen because not only
- 22:43is it something that's illegal in the United States,
- 22:46uh,
- 22:47and can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,
- 22:49but in addition to that,
- 22:50it hurts the customer user experience.
- 22:52If you are on one of these markets and you're like,
- 22:54wait a minute,
- 22:54that
- 22:55temperature just spiked all the way to the top.
- 22:58You feel like you got screwed,
- 22:59and honestly,
- 22:59in that situation,
- 23:00you probably did.
- 23:01And so you feel like you had a bad experience.
- 23:04These organizations don't wanna give you bad experience,
- 23:07right?
- 23:07That's not true information,
- 23:08it's not getting you true information
- 23:09faster.
- 23:10It is essentially a lie,
- 23:11uh,
- 23:12manipulated information.
- 23:13And the final last one was,
- 23:14uh,
- 23:15altering reality,
- 23:16um,
- 23:17the accusation being
- 23:19that
- 23:20what happens if a prediction market exists.
- 23:22Uh,
- 23:22and someone does something,
- 23:24changes the way they would normally act,
- 23:26an outcome to a real event
- 23:28to match that prediction market,
- 23:30right?
- 23:30We've seen this before.
- 23:31I think the better exam,
- 23:32they used an example of George Santos,
- 23:34who said,
- 23:35uh,
- 23:35I'm going to the,
- 23:37uh,
- 23:37State of the Union.
- 23:38His market spiked,
- 23:39whether he would go to the State of the Union,
- 23:40and went up to like 99% or something cause he had already said he was going.
- 23:43And then he later said,
- 23:45oh,
- 23:45I got caught at the airport,
- 23:46couldn't make it.
- 23:48And he's the one apparently who allegedly was making,
- 23:52you know,
- 23:52tens of thousands of dollars
- 23:54off of essentially taking a position against his own actions.
- 23:58He knew he wasn't gonna go,
- 23:59right?
- 23:59He
- 24:00changed his travel plans
- 24:02to not go to,
- 24:03uh,
- 24:03to wind up making money.
- 24:04Another,
- 24:05I think a better example of this might be,
- 24:07uh,
- 24:07they occasionally will have markets like,
- 24:08will someone streak at the Super Bowl or will someone streak at a sporting event?
- 24:12Uh,
- 24:12will someone run on the field during a sporting event?
- 24:15Uh,
- 24:15and people could put money on that and then be the person
- 24:18at the game
- 24:20going,
- 24:20uh,
- 24:21running onto the field,
- 24:22uh,
- 24:23to,
- 24:23to
- 24:24make sure that they won that prediction market bet.
- 24:25So,
- 24:26yeah,
- 24:26they get in trouble with the police,
- 24:27they gotta pay a fine or whatever,
- 24:28but they make much more on the prediction markets.
- 24:31You're not allowed to do that.
- 24:32Most of those markets have gone away,
- 24:34frankly,
- 24:34uh,
- 24:35the,
- 24:35it was more of a relic of the earlier times,
- 24:37but those are the type of,
- 24:38uh,
- 24:39of,
- 24:39of things that they're talking about and worried about.
- 24:41Uh,
- 24:41and,
- 24:42you know,
- 24:42there are some things certainly that they brought up.
- 24:44I thought,
- 24:45um,
- 24:45both,
- 24:46uh,
- 24:46the CEOs of Cal Calci and Poly Market made some really good observations
- 24:50about
- 24:51how they think about this.
- 24:53You know,
- 24:53these are guys that,
- 24:54uh,
- 24:55they're smart people.
- 24:56They are bringing,
- 24:58um,
- 24:58you know,
- 24:59markets.
- 24:59I mean,
- 24:59the fact that
- 25:01And I say this from maybe my old time here as a person who
- 25:05has a,
- 25:06a love,
- 25:06love relationship with capitalism.
- 25:09It's not perfect,
- 25:10of course,
- 25:10there are things that go wrong in the world where capitalism exists,
- 25:13but I am a massive fan to the extent that
- 25:16I think,
- 25:16you know,
- 25:17these markets,
- 25:18um,
- 25:18not prediction markets,
- 25:19but markets generally speaking.
- 25:21have made the world a much better place.
- 25:22We're talking about ripping billions of people out of,
- 25:24uh,
- 25:25deep poverty.
- 25:26Incredible innovations that made the world
- 25:29so much better
- 25:30because of the power of markets.
- 25:31And the fact that now we can apply that.
- 25:34To information
- 25:36It's an amazing achievement.
- 25:39The fact that market forces are the thing that is dissolving the mainstream media,
- 25:43that is taking away their power,
- 25:44taking away the power of campaigns and governments who
- 25:47are trying to spin you all the time.
- 25:49Well,
- 25:49you can understand why an Elizabeth Warren isn't a huge fan of that,
- 25:52right?
- 25:53She wants to control all of that.
- 25:55But the fact that our argument all this time as a,
- 25:57as a conservative,
- 25:58as a market
- 25:59uh fan.
- 26:01Uh,
- 26:01as a libertarian leaning conservative,
- 26:04that that argument is now showing
- 26:06how
- 26:07well it can do,
- 26:08it makes me really,
- 26:09really happy.
- 26:10Uh,
- 26:11because it's,
- 26:11it's true.
- 26:12These markets,
- 26:13uh,
- 26:14prediction markets are able to
- 26:16take
- 26:16the information that we all have
- 26:18and say,
- 26:18and do an end run around the media,
- 26:20an end run around this campaigns,
- 26:22an end run around the government and the spin
- 26:24factories and the think tanks and all these people
- 26:26who,
- 26:27who,
- 26:27uh,
- 26:28who built careers
- 26:29into either trying to manipulate you into believing something
- 26:33or just straight out lying to you.
- 26:35And none of that can exist here
- 26:37because the second that efficiency pops up,
- 26:38someone's there to take advantage of it.
- 26:40So we actually see what people really believe.
- 26:43That is an incredible,
- 26:44incredible thing that is happening right now.
- 26:46So,
- 26:47generally speaking,
- 26:47on the,
- 26:48on the,
- 26:48uh,
- 26:49Netflix documentary,
- 26:49is it worth your time?
- 26:50I'd say,
- 26:50yeah,
- 26:51I think it is.
- 26:51I think it's a,
- 26:52it's a fun watch.
- 26:53It's 35,
- 26:5340 minutes.
- 26:54It's an easy watch.
- 26:55They did a good job producing it.
- 26:57And frankly,
- 26:57I think the controversy that happened with the,
- 27:00the trailer which I was showing you earlier,
- 27:02really didn't play out as,
- 27:03as well.
- 27:04Um,
- 27:05as much in the actual documentary.
- 27:06There's a lot of stuff I disagreed with it.
- 27:08You know,
- 27:08they're trying to give both sides of the issue,
- 27:10uh,
- 27:10you know,
- 27:11uh,
- 27:11uh,
- 27:11that happens in these documentaries,
- 27:12but I thought they,
- 27:13generally speaking,
- 27:14handled it really,
- 27:15uh,
- 27:16generally pretty well.
- 27:16So,
- 27:17a,
- 27:17a decent watch,
- 27:18it's called,
- 27:18uh,
- 27:19the Prediction Games.
- 27:21The prediction Games.
- 27:21It's one of the
- 27:22Insta docs from
- 27:24Netflix
- 27:25and it's available now if you happen to have a Netflix
- 27:27subscription.
- 27:28Also,
- 27:28if you happen to have a predictableShow.com subscription,
- 27:31you may very well have done,
- 27:33uh,
- 27:33pretty,
- 27:34uh,
- 27:34yeah,
- 27:34I would say it was a,
- 27:36a gangbusters night in South Dakota.
- 27:38I don't know if they've ever had one of those in South Dakota,
- 27:40frankly.
- 27:41Um,
- 27:41no offense to South Dakota,
- 27:43uh,
- 27:43but not necessarily the place you think
- 27:45about when you think about going gangbusters.
- 27:47Uh,
- 27:47but I will say we were profitable last night.
- 27:49A lot of people,
- 27:50uh,
- 27:50have done well.
- 27:51I,
- 27:51we talked to somebody last night.
- 27:52I was in the,
- 27:53uh,
- 27:53in the subscriber chat I did at the end of the night.
- 27:56Um,
- 27:56we're talking to people there and,
- 27:58uh,
- 27:59Guy Scott said,
- 28:00yeah,
- 28:00I've already paid for my subscription just from this one
- 28:03election night.
- 28:03A much bigger one happens next Tuesday.
- 28:05We'll get into some of that and,
- 28:07uh,
- 28:07another big poll that had just come out,
- 28:09giving you scary information.
- 28:11If you happen to be James Paxton
- 28:13in Texas,
- 28:14we'll get to that
- 28:14next.
- 28:28New comments from James Tallarico.
- 28:31He is the.
- 28:32Uh,
- 28:32candidate
- 28:33for the Democrats in the Senate here in Texas.
- 28:36Here's what he says.
- 28:37James Tallarico now says
- 28:38he backs reparations
- 28:40for slavery.
- 28:43Now he had bad polls about,
- 28:45uh,
- 28:45African American voters,
- 28:46uh,
- 28:47was not doing as well as he thought he should be.
- 28:49So
- 28:50now he's out
- 28:51saying he's got wants reparations for slavery,
- 28:54um,
- 28:55protecting that left wing flank for
- 28:57God knows what reason,
- 28:58uh,
- 28:58you know,
- 28:59he's being called a racist by,
- 29:01um,
- 29:02what's her face,
- 29:02Jasmine Crockett,
- 29:03my favorite.
- 29:04Um,
- 29:04now,
- 29:04of course,
- 29:05that's just what she does.
- 29:06I don't even know that she wakes up in the morning,
- 29:07she's just blurting out recalls of racism,
- 29:09so she has no idea even what it's happening anymore,
- 29:12um.
- 29:13I give you that story,
- 29:15mainly to set the table for this one.
- 29:18New poll is out.
- 29:19James Tallarico
- 29:21leads
- 29:22in the Senate race.
- 29:24In Texas.
- 29:25Now,
- 29:25this is not the first poll to show this.
- 29:27I don't
- 29:28doubt.
- 29:31That
- 29:31as we speak at this moment.
- 29:34James Tallarico has a slight lead over Ken Paxton.
- 29:37This is what the poll looks like.
- 29:38This is the biggest lead he's had though.
- 29:39Uh,
- 29:4045% for Tallarico,
- 29:4240% for Paxton,
- 29:44uh,
- 29:441% for the Libertarian,
- 29:46and 14% undecided.
- 29:55You're telling me,
- 29:56this state that I live in,
- 29:58this awesome state that I live in,
- 29:59I love Texas.
- 30:01A lot of people who
- 30:02think.
- 30:04With common sense.
- 30:07You're telling me
- 30:09That this population of this state.
- 30:12is going to embrace a guy.
- 30:15Who is who's running on a platform.
- 30:19Which indicates that people
- 30:22who were not born.
- 30:24And would not be born for multiple generations
- 30:27after this uh admitted horror show of slavery,
- 30:31should be held
- 30:32financially responsible to redirect funds
- 30:36to the descendants
- 30:38of the victims
- 30:40of slavery.
- 30:43You're telling me that Texas
- 30:45is going to embrace that guy.
- 30:48You're telling me that Texas
- 30:50is going to embrace
- 30:52a guy
- 30:53who says God is non-binary
- 30:56on camera.
- 31:00Really
- 31:02Does that make any sense to you at all?
- 31:04Now,
- 31:05I live in Texas.
- 31:06I'm not there,
- 31:07Texas is.
- 31:09Not a purple state.
- 31:10Texas is a red
- 31:12state.
- 31:13Texas is the type of state
- 31:15where Republicans can win in almost any environment.
- 31:19There is an exception to that,
- 31:20which is a catastrophic worst-case scenario
- 31:24where someone like James Tallarico,
- 31:25I,
- 31:26theoretically
- 31:28could be competitive here.
- 31:29We have seen competitive,
- 31:30uh,
- 31:30races before.
- 31:31Uh,
- 31:31Ted Cruz
- 31:32won by 3 or 4 points against Beto O'Rourke.
- 31:35Now,
- 31:35O'Rourke
- 31:37was,
- 31:37first of all,
- 31:38promoted and,
- 31:39and lived
- 31:40his life trying to sell himself as a moderate.
- 31:43Um,
- 31:44that,
- 31:44of course,
- 31:44evaporated when he,
- 31:45uh,
- 31:45thought he was running for president and,
- 31:47and was trying to convince everybody he was a big liberal.
- 31:49Um,
- 31:49but he tried to present himself as a moderate here in Texas initially.
- 31:53Um,
- 31:53he was a guy who people were like,
- 31:55oh,
- 31:55he's a rock star,
- 31:56he's a good-looking guy.
- 31:57What a great candidate.
- 31:59Now,
- 31:59I didn't buy into that,
- 32:00I was never a fan.
- 32:01I did make a very similar argument about Beto O'Rourke at the time.
- 32:04Gosh,
- 32:05he's getting a lot of hype,
- 32:06getting a lot of money flowing into the state,
- 32:07but are you telling me
- 32:09this state is going to embrace Beto O'Rourke,
- 32:12really?
- 32:13And of course,
- 32:13at the end of the day,
- 32:14we got a big hype cycle,
- 32:16and then he didn't.
- 32:17I am not 100% sure.
- 32:20Uh,
- 32:21that,
- 32:21uh,
- 32:21James Tallarico is going to lose here in Texas.
- 32:24Um,
- 32:26Most of that has to do with his opponent,
- 32:29Ken Paxton,
- 32:29who's a guy that I think does some really good things.
- 32:32Maybe not all great things,
- 32:34uh,
- 32:34he's had some issues with scandals and such,
- 32:37but you have to understand as a,
- 32:38a person who lives in Texas,
- 32:40the people in Texas have dealt with these scandals before.
- 32:44He's won statewide elections since these scandals were happening.
- 32:49I think what people really think about Ken Paxton generally in the state
- 32:53is that they like his policies,
- 32:55they generally speaking like that he
- 32:58will be kind of unrelenting when it comes to taking on,
- 33:01uh,
- 33:01the,
- 33:02the issues that he cares about,
- 33:03most of which Texans agree with him on.
- 33:05They don't love his personal life stuff,
- 33:07they don't love certain things about him,
- 33:10um,
- 33:10but,
- 33:12Generally speaking,
- 33:13when it comes down to it,
- 33:14and their option is a Democrat,
- 33:16uh,
- 33:17and someone who does not agree with any of their values
- 33:19and who will vote with Chuck Schumer every single day,
- 33:22generally speaking,
- 33:23Texans have come home and said,
- 33:24all right,
- 33:25you know,
- 33:25like I don't love Paxson,
- 33:26but we'll go with him.
- 33:28That's where what I think will happen.
- 33:31To give you a picture of what this state is like right now,
- 33:33it's 175 degrees outside every day.
- 33:36No one can be,
- 33:37no one can even think it's so hot.
- 33:39You know,
- 33:39people are going on vacation,
- 33:40they're all down,
- 33:41you know,
- 33:42somewhere else at the beach,
- 33:43uh,
- 33:44their kids are in camp.
- 33:45They're doing things that are completely unrelated to politics.
- 33:49Nobody in this state is engaged in this election yet.
- 33:51Outside of,
- 33:52uh,
- 33:53people
- 33:53who are watching,
- 33:54you know,
- 33:55um,
- 33:55uh,
- 33:55lunatics on the internet,
- 33:57uh,
- 33:57promoting,
- 33:58um,
- 33:59you know,
- 33:59uh,
- 33:59James Tallarico incessantly.
- 34:02You know,
- 34:02this is a race that is very much nationalized,
- 34:06and I will say Tallarico has raised a lot of money and that's going to be
- 34:10a problem for Republicans.
- 34:12The reason why is because it's Paxton and not a
- 34:15candidate that might be a little bit easier to,
- 34:17to win in,
- 34:18in,
- 34:18uh,
- 34:18conservative Texas.
- 34:20You will have a situation where Republicans will need to
- 34:23probably dump some money into Texas to win this race,
- 34:25and that's something that is going to
- 34:27be detrimental potentially to other races Republicans are
- 34:30battling in other parts of the state.
- 34:31Obviously,
- 34:32Republicans cannot lose this seat,
- 34:33and so they will have to put whatever resources are necessary into winning it.
- 34:38I just am not of the belief that it's nearly,
- 34:42uh,
- 34:42this,
- 34:42these polls are realistic.
- 34:43Let me give you another,
- 34:44uh,
- 34:44this is a kind of a breakdown of these polls.
- 34:47Uh,
- 34:47if you look at all voters,
- 34:48it's 45-40 for Tallarico,
- 34:50Republicans,
- 34:5081 to 7.
- 34:51Um,
- 34:52you're telling me 19% of voters are really questioning
- 34:55whether they're gonna vote for James Tallarico or not.
- 34:58Now,
- 34:58some of them might stay home.
- 34:59I do believe there are some,
- 35:00particularly religious conservatives who look at PACs and say,
- 35:02gosh,
- 35:03he's got all sorts of personal problems,
- 35:04been kind of a disaster on that front.
- 35:06I don't know that I can support this guy.
- 35:08That all feels good in the summer.
- 35:10Feels a lot less good when James Tallarico,
- 35:13Mr.
- 35:13Non-binary,
- 35:14uh,
- 35:15Jesus,
- 35:15uh,
- 35:16is,
- 35:16uh,
- 35:17sitting there saying these things in front of your face
- 35:19over and over and over and over and over again.
- 35:22I,
- 35:22I find it hard to believe,
- 35:25just like I found it hard to believe that
- 35:27anyone,
- 35:28including Hillary Clinton,
- 35:29would beat Donald Trump in Texas.
- 35:31I mean if you go back to 2016,
- 35:33Donald Trump was a very flawed candidate in Texas.
- 35:35He was not a guy that was widely embraced by the Republicans here.
- 35:38He,
- 35:39people didn't like that he had these personal issues,
- 35:41that he would say things that didn't always seem true,
- 35:43that he,
- 35:44you know,
- 35:44he,
- 35:45they didn't were not huge.
- 35:46Fans,
- 35:46but at no point was I questioning whether he was going to win Texas or not,
- 35:50because
- 35:50it just doesn't believe that,
- 35:51I believe that it's possible.
- 35:52Now,
- 35:53the demographics have shifted a little bit here.
- 35:55Uh,
- 35:55Trump is not particularly if you believe this poll,
- 35:57he's underwater
- 35:59in Texas.
- 36:00Uh,
- 36:00whether that holds up,
- 36:01I don't know.
- 36:02Democrats,
- 36:02uh,
- 36:03are complete,
- 36:04but I just don't believe 19% of Republicans
- 36:06are really on the fence on James Tallarico.
- 36:08Uh,
- 36:09Republicans are.
- 36:09Democrats,
- 36:10excuse me,
- 36:10much more united
- 36:11in favor of Tallarico.
- 36:12Independents do favor,
- 36:14um,
- 36:15Tallarico,
- 36:16uh,
- 36:16in this poll
- 36:17by a margin of,
- 36:19or excuse me,
- 36:20uh,
- 36:20yeah,
- 36:2043 to 23.
- 36:21I don't think the split splits will be that large on election day.
- 36:24White voters 53 to 33 for Paxton.
- 36:27Black voters 71 to 8
- 36:29for Tallarico.
- 36:30Latinos,
- 36:3066 to 20 for,
- 36:32for Tallarico.
- 36:33Um,
- 36:33and then,
- 36:34uh,
- 36:35uh,
- 36:35for whatever reason,
- 36:36uh,
- 36:36non-college voters,
- 36:38this is not usually the way this plays out,
- 36:39um,
- 36:40around the country,
- 36:4045-36
- 36:42for Tallarico over Paxton,
- 36:44and then college voters are pretty,
- 36:45pretty much split 45-44.
- 36:47So
- 36:48all that means
- 36:50this isn't a deep breakdown of the numbers.
- 36:52I don't think that's appropriate yet.
- 36:53Um,
- 36:54I will say in the same poll,
- 36:56Greg Abbott,
- 36:57who is a very normal,
- 36:59you know,
- 36:59I don't know,
- 37:00I,
- 37:00I would say,
- 37:01uh,
- 37:02the type of guy who wins pretty easily in Texas,
- 37:04right?
- 37:04Like,
- 37:04not a guy who's had lots of personal problems.
- 37:07He's not beloved by the conservative community here.
- 37:09There's not tons of passion for him out of that community,
- 37:12but generally speaking,
- 37:13he wins these elections usually by low double digits.
- 37:16In this poll,
- 37:17he's only up by 3.
- 37:18Now that either says something catastrophic for the environment
- 37:22that we're going into here in this election.
- 37:25I,
- 37:25I'm not a person who believes it's gonna be good for Republicans,
- 37:27but catastrophic is another territory.
- 37:30Uh,
- 37:31my guess is Abbott will win by a lot more than 3
- 37:33points when this all comes down to the end of this,
- 37:35uh,
- 37:36situation.
- 37:37And,
- 37:37you know,
- 37:37uh,
- 37:37uh,
- 37:38uh,
- 37:38uh,
- 37:38when that happens,
- 37:39I think Paxson's gonna be much more competitive,
- 37:42probably winning,
- 37:43um,
- 37:43uh,
- 37:43this election.
- 37:44I,
- 37:44I,
- 37:44I would consider him
- 37:46a favorite.
- 37:47The markets
- 37:48also
- 37:49sort of
- 37:50agree with me on that.
- 37:51They also believe he is the favorite in this race,
- 37:53but very,
- 37:54very narrowly.
- 37:55Can we show this market?
- 37:55This is the Texas Senate winner.
- 37:57And you see,
- 37:58at one point,
- 37:59um,
- 37:59Ken Paxton was around 80%
- 38:01favorite.
- 38:04It narrowed to about 55 to 58 for a while,
- 38:09hung around there,
- 38:10and it started to bump up a little bit.
- 38:12This latest poll has moved it back down now,
- 38:14where Ken Paxson has only a 54% chance.
- 38:17To get a Republican Senate winner
- 38:20at 54%
- 38:22is the type of bargain you don't see come around
- 38:25very often.
- 38:26You're talking about 80,
- 38:2790% profit margins.
- 38:30Uh,
- 38:30over,
- 38:31uh,
- 38:313,
- 38:32in 96 days,
- 38:33as it says,
- 38:33uh,
- 38:33on the,
- 38:34uh,
- 38:34Calci chart there.
- 38:35In 96 days to get,
- 38:37uh,
- 38:37well,
- 38:37basically doubling your money
- 38:38is a wonderful,
- 38:40wonderful return.
- 38:41There are risks to this investment.
- 38:43I do not think,
- 38:44you know,
- 38:44that this is a sure thing as it should be in Texas.
- 38:48The issue here is Paxton could have another scandal of some sort.
- 38:53If it wasn't
- 38:54horribly bad,
- 38:55he'd probably survive it because that's kind of who he is in this state.
- 38:58Uh,
- 38:58he's a guy everyone knows has his bumps and bruises,
- 39:01but generally speaking,
- 39:02gets across the finish line.
- 39:03We will see if that happens here.
- 39:05I just think that the real value of this
- 39:08is much higher than 54%.
- 39:09It's probably more like 70,
- 39:1175%
- 39:12in my mind
- 39:13that he will win
- 39:15because what will typically happen,
- 39:17and this happens in,
- 39:17it's a great thing to look for,
- 39:19it's this,
- 39:19and we need to come up with a catchy name for it.
- 39:21It's the primary swing.
- 39:22You have a,
- 39:23a tough primary,
- 39:24Corn versus Paxton,
- 39:25and Wesley Hunt was in there as well.
- 39:27Uh,
- 39:27battle,
- 39:27battle,
- 39:28battle,
- 39:28battle,
- 39:28battle,
- 39:29hatred.
- 39:29These guys hate each other.
- 39:31There's all these people,
- 39:32both sides hate the other side.
- 39:34Paxton winds up winning.
- 39:36Uh,
- 39:36he winds up getting through the primary and now he's the candidate,
- 39:39and those Cornyn voters feel pissed about it.
- 39:42The Wesley Hunt voters to a lesser extent,
- 39:44are annoyed about that.
- 39:45They wanted their guy.
- 39:46They didn't get their guy,
- 39:47and they're annoyed about it.
- 39:48And when someone calls them,
- 39:49they say,
- 39:49I'm not voting for Paxton.
- 39:51I'm undecided.
- 39:51I'm voting for the other guy.
- 39:53I want to punish him.
- 39:54But when it comes down to the actual future of the country,
- 39:57when it comes down to control of the Senate,
- 40:00that's not even a vote for Paxton at that point.
- 40:02That is a vote for
- 40:03holy crap,
- 40:04the Democrats might be controlling the Senate,
- 40:06the Democrats might be able to block our Supreme Court justices,
- 40:10the Democrats might be able to sink every single bill Donald Trump wants.
- 40:15It's not gonna be me making that argument.
- 40:17Donald Trump's gonna be making that argument.
- 40:18Everybody on the Republican side,
- 40:20that,
- 40:20the,
- 40:20the podcasters that these people listen to will be making
- 40:23that argument over and over and over and over again.
- 40:25People come home,
- 40:26typically.
- 40:27And that doesn't guarantee a victory for Paxton.
- 40:30But I think it is much,
- 40:31much higher than 54%.
- 40:33I think there's real value there.
- 40:34Uh,
- 40:35we will see how that,
- 40:36uh,
- 40:36goes as we go forward,
- 40:38uh,
- 40:38but that's what I think.
- 40:39By the way,
- 40:39last night,
- 40:40uh,
- 40:40we also had a,
- 40:41an interesting situation,
- 40:42uh,
- 40:42Roden versus Doden.
- 40:43We talked about it a little bit yesterday.
- 40:45We won
- 40:46with Roden.
- 40:46Got about 10,
- 40:4712%.
- 40:48Uh,
- 40:49over,
- 40:49uh,
- 40:4948 hour period,
- 40:51very happy with those results,
- 40:53uh,
- 40:53and,
- 40:54uh,
- 40:54took a nice profit,
- 40:55and that's the type of stuff we give you all the time here at PredictableShow.com.
- 40:58At least my beliefs.
- 41:00We also hit on three different,
- 41:02uh,
- 41:02margin markets,
- 41:03would,
- 41:03would,
- 41:04uh,
- 41:04road and win by 5 points,
- 41:0610 points,
- 41:06and 15 points.
- 41:07Hit on all three of those.
- 41:08Uh,
- 41:09the only one we missed on,
- 41:10we missed by 0.8%,
- 41:12which was a big long shot.
- 41:13It was like,
- 41:14uh,
- 41:14you know,
- 41:1410 times,
- 41:1520 times or 10 to 15 times our money.
- 41:17Uh,
- 41:18we would have hit on
- 41:19if,
- 41:19if Roden had ended up below 70%,
- 41:22instead,
- 41:22he got 70.8%. Uh,
- 41:24so we just missed that one,
- 41:25but
- 41:26just a little slice of our profits given back to the community
- 41:29on that one.
- 41:30Nice night for us in,
- 41:31uh,
- 41:31in South Dakota and nice night for the predictable show
- 41:34community.
- 41:35So make sure to join us,
- 41:36predictableshow.com.
- 41:37Go check that out.
- 41:39We'll be back with more.
- 41:40We have some crazy things that have happened
- 41:42in the prediction markets,
- 41:43wild stories.
- 41:45A new episode of Stranger Trades is next.
- 42:03Ah,
- 42:03stranger trades where we look at the bizarre
- 42:06things that happen to people on prediction markets.
- 42:08I,
- 42:08I don't know.
- 42:09Sometimes you can be a huge winner when these things happen to you.
- 42:12Sometimes you can be a huge loser when these things happen to you,
- 42:15and sometimes strange things do
- 42:16happen on prediction markets.
- 42:18Today's episode has to do with Anthony Fauci.
- 42:21Now,
- 42:21Fauci was testifying in front of uh Congress
- 42:26about his diaries,
- 42:27his emails,
- 42:28and whether
- 42:29Uh,
- 42:30what he did during the pandemic was,
- 42:32uh,
- 42:33enough information to make you think he's a magical
- 42:36hero and you should burn a candle for him,
- 42:38uh,
- 42:38or,
- 42:38uh,
- 42:38did a really crappy job and did not help at all.
- 42:40In fact,
- 42:41has lowered the confidence of our public,
- 42:43uh,
- 42:43in our public health
- 42:44system and officials,
- 42:46uh,
- 42:46to an extent I didn't even think it was possible,
- 42:48frankly,
- 42:49before all this happened,
- 42:50but.
- 42:52There is a mention market about this,
- 42:54about his,
- 42:55um,
- 42:55testimony,
- 42:57and it's a really interesting one,
- 42:59and if you were involved in this,
- 43:00you may know where this is going.
- 43:02Hopefully,
- 43:03you're on the right side of it.
- 43:04The question was,
- 43:05what will Fauci say during the Senate Homeland Security
- 43:08hearing?
- 43:08And
- 43:09let me give you this first example,
- 43:10the first word,
- 43:11if you don't know what a mention mark is,
- 43:12basically,
- 43:12it's,
- 43:13did you
- 43:14have a situation
- 43:15where,
- 43:16uh,
- 43:16did the,
- 43:17you know,
- 43:17that when in the middle of this testimony,
- 43:18did he say a specific.
- 43:20word.
- 43:21What was he gonna talk about is basically what these markets are trying to suss out.
- 43:24And Joe Biden was one of the options.
- 43:26Now,
- 43:26the markets,
- 43:27uh,
- 43:27thought the value for this was
- 43:30leading up to the event,
- 43:31probably between,
- 43:32you know,
- 43:3345 and 55%
- 43:35chance.
- 43:36Um,
- 43:37and then you see,
- 43:38as the,
- 43:39uh,
- 43:39testimony unfurls,
- 43:41it goes down to 0.
- 43:43So,
- 43:43Joe Biden was not said.
- 43:45So if you had Biden,
- 43:46no,
- 43:47you won in a big way.
- 43:48Let's go to the next,
- 43:49uh,
- 43:50possibility.
- 43:50The next possibility was the CDC.
- 43:52You gotta think the CDC is gonna come through,
- 43:53right?
- 43:54He's,
- 43:54he's,
- 43:54he's,
- 43:55you know,
- 43:55Anthony Fauci.
- 43:56Uh,
- 43:56you see,
- 43:57people thought that was almost a sure thing
- 43:59in the high 80s
- 44:00for a good part of the week,
- 44:02and then all of a sudden
- 44:04drops down to
- 44:050.
- 44:07Next one,
- 44:08let's go to the next market,
- 44:09whatever it is.
- 44:09Let's see.
- 44:10Uh,
- 44:11China,
- 44:11uh,
- 44:12China,
- 44:12you think,
- 44:13is he gonna say it?
- 44:13Yeah,
- 44:13most of the markets thought,
- 44:14I mean,
- 44:14it was up near 100%,
- 44:16frankly,
- 44:17uh,
- 44:17before this thing started,
- 44:18drops to 0.
- 44:20Next market,
- 44:21uh,
- 44:21was a conspiracy,
- 44:23and people were not nearly as sure that he would say the word conspiracy.
- 44:26It was dropping below 40% chance he would say it,
- 44:28uh,
- 44:28went up to about 60%,
- 44:30um,
- 44:30but at the end of the day,
- 44:32dropped down to
- 44:330.
- 44:34Hm,
- 44:35all of these,
- 44:35I mean,
- 44:36can we scroll down the whole thing?
- 44:37Are they all zero?
- 44:38No,
- 44:38no,
- 44:39no,
- 44:39no,
- 44:39no,
- 44:40no,
- 44:40no,
- 44:40no.
- 44:41I mean,
- 44:41every single possibility over and over and again,
- 44:43no,
- 44:44no,
- 44:44no,
- 44:45no,
- 44:45no.
- 44:45And even Wuhan,
- 44:47which would be surprising that he said,
- 44:49no,
- 44:49Trump 3 times,
- 44:51no.
- 44:52He didn't say Trump 3 times in his testimony.
- 44:54The market sort of believed that he would,
- 44:56but I guess about a 40 or 50% chance,
- 44:58but at least a chance of it.
- 44:59Um,
- 45:00went down to 0.
- 45:01Of course,
- 45:02if you watch the testimony,
- 45:03you know exactly what happened,
- 45:04and it's a strange quirk of one of these
- 45:06congressional testimony
- 45:08mention markets.
- 45:10What happened?
- 45:11Anthony Fauci invokes 5th Amendment right not to answer questions at COVID hearing
- 45:17and calls Rand Paul
- 45:18unhinged.
- 45:19What's interesting is,
- 45:21he did do an opening statement,
- 45:22and I think that would have actually counted if he had said any of those words,
- 45:26but apparently he didn't say any of them.
- 45:28He said obsession about 10 times.
- 45:29I think he's trying to key into the,
- 45:31the algorithms there on the movie.
- 45:33Uh,
- 45:33but he said obsession a bunch of times,
- 45:34he said Rand Paul was obsessed with him.
- 45:36But at the end of the day,
- 45:37he didn't say any of the words in there.
- 45:39And this is an interesting thing to think about
- 45:41in the future for these types of markets.
- 45:43We all could have
- 45:44probably assumed,
- 45:45or at least if we thought about it in advance,
- 45:47I didn't really think about it in advance.
- 45:49I was thinking about playing this market too.
- 45:50I'm glad I didn't because I would have picked some of these as yes.
- 45:53Um,
- 45:54what will he say?
- 45:55What will he not say?
- 45:56Well,
- 45:56if he takes the Fifth Amendment,
- 45:58he's just repeating that same phrase over and over and over again.
- 46:00He doesn't say anything.
- 46:02Outside of that opening statement,
- 46:04so you had a very small window for him to say a few things.
- 46:08He then,
- 46:08when he started getting questions,
- 46:09said,
- 46:09uh,
- 46:10Fifth Amendment,
- 46:11no.
- 46:11So every single person with a yes position
- 46:14in this market,
- 46:15do we have a,
- 46:16do you see the volume at the bottom of that,
- 46:17Adam,
- 46:17by any chance on that,
- 46:18uh,
- 46:19on that market?
- 46:20Um.
- 46:21$528,000 on that market.
- 46:24Everybody who had a yes position on that,
- 46:26every single position
- 46:28wound up with no.
- 46:29I,
- 46:29I mean,
- 46:29I've talked to a few of these mentioned market traders,
- 46:31uh,
- 46:32that do really,
- 46:32really well in these markets.
- 46:33I'm fascinated to know
- 46:34if they call that in advance because
- 46:37honestly,
- 46:37Calci should probably,
- 46:38and Polymarket as well,
- 46:39should probably put something in there,
- 46:42say,
- 46:42just saying Fifth Amendment,
- 46:43right?
- 46:44So there's some option if that person says,
- 46:46it takes the 5th the entire time,
- 46:48that's another option for that person.
- 46:50Uh,
- 46:50to try to win on,
- 46:52on one of those markets,
- 46:53but.
- 46:54If,
- 46:55and you can look at this both ways.
- 46:56I see this all the time.
- 46:57SportsCenter does these,
- 46:58they are bad beats,
- 47:00and the bad beat is always like some crazy thing that happens
- 47:03that screws you over on your supposed win.
- 47:05And everyone always takes the terrible negative side of that.
- 47:09You know,
- 47:09it's always a bad beat.
- 47:11But as we know,
- 47:12especially in prediction markets,
- 47:13there's someone on the side,
- 47:14the positive side of every one of those trades as well.
- 47:17Somebody who
- 47:18thought,
- 47:19gosh,
- 47:19I,
- 47:19I don't think he's gonna say the word conspiracy.
- 47:21It might have been completely wrong if,
- 47:22if,
- 47:23uh,
- 47:23Fauci actually
- 47:24had a testimony,
- 47:25uh,
- 47:26that was normal.
- 47:27Uh,
- 47:28instead,
- 47:29uh,
- 47:29we're winning.
- 47:30They were the people who won on the quirky craziness of a prediction market.
- 47:34So,
- 47:34congratulations if you were on the right side of that stranger
- 47:38trade.
- 47:39All right,
- 47:39PredictableShow.com is the place to go to subscribe.

- 47:48uh,
- 47:49all those market positions that we talked about
- 47:51in South Dakota.
- 47:53We,
- 47:53we,
- 47:53we kind of laid out,

- 47:54in.
- 47:55Detail.

- 48:03even in a race that's basically decided,
- 48:06you're able to get 1015,
- 48:0720%
- 48:08on your money in those margin markets if you can play them right.
- 48:11We almost nailed a 10xer,
- 48:13uh,
- 48:14last night,
- 48:15uh,
- 48:15but,
- 48:15you know.
- 48:16Those 1,000% gains don't come around every single day.
- 48:19OK,
- 48:19um,

- 48:34Live,
- 48:34you can see all the behind the scenes stuff
- 48:36and producers coming over,
- 48:37yelling at me,
- 48:38throwing things at me,
- 48:40physically and mentally abusing me,
