- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swedish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and today Luna and I are going to help you stay warm in Swedish. Luna: Warm sounds good. Is it getting cold where you are? Because today we're talking about buying a winter coat, en vinterjacka. Lucas: Exactly. We've bought gloves, shoes, a backpack — now it's time for the big one. So let's start with the phrase: Jag skulle vilja ha en vinterjacka. Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en vinterjacka. That's 'I would like a winter coat.' Lucas: Perfect. Let's break it down a little. Jag skulle vilja ha — that's 'I would like to have'. And en vinterjacka is 'a winter coat'. Luna: So if I'm at a store, I just say: Jag skulle vilja ha en vinterjacka. Lucas: Yes, and the salesperson might ask: Vilken storlek har du? That's 'What size are you?' Luna: Right, we did that with shoes. So I'd answer: Jag har storlek medium. But what if I want to ask if they have my size? Lucas: Good question. You say: Har ni den i min storlek? That means 'Do you have it in my size?' Luna: Har ni den i min storlek? Let me try that. Har ni den i min storlek? Lucas: That was perfect. And notice we use den because vinterjacka is an en-word. Luna: Oh, so den matches the jacket. Nice. Lucas: Now, once they bring it out, you probably want to try it on. So: Får jag prova den? Luna: Får jag prova den? That's 'May I try it on?' Lucas: Exactly. Får jag — 'may I', prova — 'try', den — 'it'. Luna: Får jag prova den? I love that we've used prova before with shoes. Lucas: Yes, it's a handy verb. Now let's imagine you're in the fitting room, and you decide you like it. You might ask: Hur mycket kostar den? Luna: Hur mycket kostar den? 'How much does it cost?' Lucas: You've got it. And when you're ready to buy: Jag tar den, tack. Luna: Jag tar den, tack. 'I'll take it, thanks.' Lucas: Let's put it all together in a little scene. You walk into a store and say: Jag skulle vilja ha en vinterjacka. Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en vinterjacka. Lucas: The clerk asks: Vilken storlek har du? Luna: Jag har storlek medium. Har ni den i min storlek? Lucas: They bring it out. You say: Får jag prova den? Luna: Får jag prova den? Lucas: It fits. You ask: Hur mycket kostar den? Luna: Hur mycket kostar den? Lucas: And you finish with: Jag tar den, tack. Luna: Jag tar den, tack. That feels really doable. Lucas: It's a solid set. Now let's do a quick callback to something we learned earlier — remember how to say 'thank you for the help'? Tack för hjälpen. Luna: Oh, yeah. Tack för hjälpen. That would fit right after you buy the coat. Lucas: Exactly. Luna: Får jag prova den? Lucas: Hur mycket kostar den? Luna: Hur mycket kostar den? Lucas: And finally: Jag tar den, tack. Luna: Jag tar den, tack. Lucas: Perfect. Now you're ready to buy a winter coat in Swedish. Practice these before you go, and you'll be all set for the cold. Luna: See you next time, and stay warm. Hej då!
