- 0:01Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald is our Broncos insider Altitude Sports Radio ninety
- 0:05Speaker 1: two five. Pro Football, the insider.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I've covered the league at while Jeff Legwald.
- 0:11Speaker 3: He's the balloon popper.
- 0:12Speaker 2: He doesn't blow it up.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- 0:16Speaker 3: IBDW Local sixty eight.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Start with the chomp and with the career. Date's Leggie
- 0:21Speaker 1: on Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five. All right, let's
- 0:31Speaker 1: check on our friend Jeff Legwald right now, who is
- 0:35Speaker 1: somewhere on the East Coast. The precipitation from Hurricane Helene
- 0:41Speaker 1: is making his life an absolute nightmare today. Is he
- 0:44Speaker 1: tries to somehow find his way up to East Rutherford,
- 0:47Speaker 1: New Jersey. Jeff Legwald, where are you right now?
- 0:52Speaker 2: I am in the vicinity of the nation's capital. So
- 0:55Speaker 2: we're making progress.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Okay, So you're trying to get to Dulles. I'm assuming
- 0:58Speaker 1: then to fly toware new work. Probably yeah, I probably
- 1:02Speaker 1: knew it. Okay, Okay, so that's the plan. Right now.
- 1:06Speaker 1: What has your day been like? Because the Broncos got
- 1:09Speaker 1: forced onto the tennis courts for practice today, what has
- 1:13Speaker 1: your day been like trying to cover all of this
- 1:15Speaker 1: out on the East Coast where Hurricane Helene is obviously
- 1:19Speaker 1: ravaging things.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Well, obviously, my little you know, my little drive in
- 1:25Speaker 2: football isn't anything compared to what some folks are doing.
- 1:28Speaker 2: So but the Broncos did go into the tennis courts,
- 1:34Speaker 2: at which time Sean Payton, who's taken teams to the
- 1:40Speaker 2: Greenbrier at least three times, announced that he had no
- 1:44Speaker 2: idea the tennis facility existed at the Greenbrier.
- 1:47Speaker 1: So there you go. Nice, Sean hasn't been going and
- 1:51Speaker 1: working on his groundstrokes Wimbledon dream going or improving his
- 1:56Speaker 1: backhand with a lesson.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I don't want to announce anything, but the fitness center
- 2:01Speaker 2: is in the tennis center, so I'm just gonna leave
- 2:03Speaker 2: it that.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Well, play, Jeff, we.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Go, Jeff, what what's the week been like? Has it
- 2:11Speaker 3: felt like a normal football week or what? Do you think?
- 2:14Speaker 2: No, I mean it's any The weather was just they
- 2:17Speaker 2: didn't get much cooperation from the weather. They they made
- 2:21Speaker 2: the best of it. The first day, you know, Wednesday,
- 2:23Speaker 2: they were on the grass because that the rain stopped.
- 2:26Speaker 2: And then yesterday they were forced to be to the
- 2:29Speaker 2: turf field. There is a turf field there you know,
- 2:32Speaker 2: which was probably a normal practice and since they're playing
- 2:35Speaker 2: on turf, they probably weren't too upset about that. But today,
- 2:40Speaker 2: you know, last full day of practice. They'll do a
- 2:43Speaker 2: walk through in New Jersey tomorrow, uh, but today, you know,
- 2:48Speaker 2: the last regular practice of a game week. You know,
- 2:52Speaker 2: they were on the tennis court. So I had a
- 2:53Speaker 2: little bit of a of a COVID week vibe to it,
- 2:57Speaker 2: you know, when it was all said and done. But
- 3:00Speaker 2: you know, he contends it was fabulous and that you know,
- 3:04Speaker 2: everybody loved it, but you could tell I think that
- 3:08Speaker 2: I think to support people with the Broncos were pretty
- 3:11Speaker 2: hairy and you know, trying to make it all work.
- 3:14Speaker 2: And they actually did have to switch their their team
- 3:18Speaker 2: flight today. Originally they were supposed to take two planes
- 3:22Speaker 2: out of Louisbourg, West Virginia, which is very close to
- 3:26Speaker 2: the Greenbrier, probably ten minutes, but instead they had to
- 3:32Speaker 2: because of the weather, they had to take buses to
- 3:36Speaker 2: Roanoke and then go to New Jersey and that that
- 3:40Speaker 2: was probably a fifty minute bus ride, and the and
- 3:43Speaker 2: the monsoon conditions when we left.
- 3:47Speaker 1: So in the end, what was intended for a convenience
- 3:51Speaker 1: and whatever competitive advantage could be gained by being on
- 3:56Speaker 1: the East coast, Leggie was largely nullified by the effects
- 4:00Speaker 1: of a damn hurricane. Which it's just, you know, it's
- 4:03Speaker 1: the darnedest thing that that's what they got to deal
- 4:05Speaker 1: with in this week that they were out there. I'm
- 4:07Speaker 1: sure it's a week that many of them will never forget,
- 4:09Speaker 1: and especially the people like you mentioned that worked for
- 4:11Speaker 1: the Broncos support staff. But you know, best intentions I think,
- 4:16Speaker 1: I'm sure out of Sean Payton, but in the end
- 4:18Speaker 1: it ended up not going great.
- 4:21Speaker 2: No, and I you know, again, nobody can foresee you know, hey,
- 4:25Speaker 2: category four hurricane is gonna come. You know you're wading
- 4:29Speaker 2: you know, obviously staying in Florida in retrospect, which is
- 4:33Speaker 2: where they had actually spoken to a couple of places
- 4:36Speaker 2: in Florida, the IMT Academy and the Disney Sports Complex
- 4:41Speaker 2: as well. They're tough to those two facilities about maybe
- 4:46Speaker 2: spending the week there. But you know, hindsight, that would
- 4:50Speaker 2: not have been great either, given how things went this
- 4:53Speaker 2: week and you know the size of the storm and
- 4:57Speaker 2: all of that. So in the end, probably getting on
- 5:01Speaker 2: a plane and being home in Denver nine o'clock last
- 5:05Speaker 2: Sunday night might have been the best thing of all,
- 5:07Speaker 2: but I doubt anyone from the Broncos will publicly admit
- 5:11Speaker 2: that at any point.
- 5:12Speaker 3: All Right, So he had mentioned in his comments today
- 5:15Speaker 3: that they asked for a couple of games back to
- 5:18Speaker 3: back because they had so many in the you know,
- 5:19Speaker 3: in this East coast trip or eleven o'clock window locally here.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Are they going to do this again? I guess that
- 5:26Speaker 1: was my question.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Are they going to try to stay out east again
- 5:29Speaker 3: later in the year or.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Is this it?
- 5:33Speaker 2: Andy? I think you will. They will do this anytime
- 5:37Speaker 2: they have potentially you know, multiple early East coast Eastern
- 5:43Speaker 2: time zone games. But I think it's something he believes in.
- 5:49Speaker 2: You know, he's very intent on sleep studies, and he
- 5:54Speaker 2: believes that not switching the time zone is ultimately the
- 5:57Speaker 2: trump card for any inconvenient otherwise on the trip, that
- 6:02Speaker 2: they get more out of not switching time zones multiple
- 6:06Speaker 2: times than they do you know, you know, anything sort
- 6:11Speaker 2: of negative that would be on the trip in that way.
- 6:15Speaker 2: So I think you will always do this when they
- 6:18Speaker 2: can put games back to back in the East Eastern
- 6:22Speaker 2: times ah.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Sleep studies for the win I'm sure the penners are
- 6:26Speaker 1: thrilled to hear that. Jeff Legwald. Everybody, he is brought
- 6:29Speaker 1: to you right now by the International Brotherhood of Electrical
- 6:33Speaker 1: Workers IBEW Local sixty eight. Start with a job and
- 6:36Speaker 1: with a career, Jeff, Let's talk about the football matchup
- 6:38Speaker 1: you pointed out today on ESPN dot com. The excuse me.
- 6:42Speaker 1: The Jets sat quarterbacks on a league high seventeen percent
- 6:46Speaker 1: of pass attempts and they don't send extra bodies all
- 6:52Speaker 1: that often, largely doing this with four man pressures. What
- 6:57Speaker 1: kind of challenge is this going to be for young
- 6:59Speaker 1: bow Knicks going up against Robert Sala, who may not
- 7:02Speaker 1: be the best head coach in the world, but the
- 7:04Speaker 1: guy can call some defense.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I think. I think the Broncos are gonna try
- 7:09Speaker 2: and get the ball out of his hand as fast
- 7:11Speaker 2: as possible and put him on the move a little bit.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I think I think a stationary target. The longer he's
- 7:18Speaker 2: a stationary target, the worse it's gonna be. I think. So,
- 7:22Speaker 2: just judging from sort of the you know, what they
- 7:28Speaker 2: have in the playbook and what matches up against the Jets,
- 7:31Speaker 2: I do think, you know, he may tinker with a
- 7:34Speaker 2: few of the Reid option things and put him in
- 7:36Speaker 2: the shotgun plenty. But uh yeah, this this is gonna
- 7:41Speaker 2: be a lot closer to the first two weeks for
- 7:43Speaker 2: Bonicks than than the last Sunday is in terms of pressure,
- 7:48Speaker 2: terms of what he's gonna see. And you know, they
- 7:51Speaker 2: drop set it into coverage at least almost every step,
- 7:55Speaker 2: so that as a quarterback you better be pretty good
- 7:58Speaker 2: at the coting then because that's a lot of bodies
- 8:02Speaker 2: mingling back there. And you know, the Broncos haven't had
- 8:07Speaker 2: many plays where receivers are getting awesome separation, so you
- 8:13Speaker 2: know they're gonna need a big effort. And I think
- 8:15Speaker 2: they will try to run the ball at least early
- 8:19Speaker 2: to see if they can at least, you know, slow
- 8:21Speaker 2: the Jets front down. But if that doesn't go well,
- 8:25Speaker 2: you know, Quinn Williams is a problem in the in
- 8:28Speaker 2: the middle of the defensive line, and that that will
- 8:30Speaker 2: be the biggest issue as far as running the ball.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Jeffinitely got like thirty seconds because Nate and I are
- 8:35Speaker 3: trying to mind their pews and cues Nate Singleton. Nate Singleton,
- 8:39Speaker 3: I just did it again, Alex Singleton, I didn't even
- 8:42Speaker 3: mean to do that, Alex Singleton talk about the loss.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that's yeah, that's a lot of snaps to replace.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Now we did learn today Barton will wear the green dots,
- 8:52Speaker 2: so that means he's getting most of the snaps, because
- 8:55Speaker 2: you wouldn't give the green doctor guy. That's gonna be
- 8:57Speaker 2: bopping in and out situate show. So that's gonna turn
- 9:03Speaker 2: out to be a big free agent signing if he can,
- 9:06Speaker 2: if he can play pretty well with a lot of
- 9:08Speaker 2: playing time. But it does look like they're going to
- 9:10Speaker 2: have Barton do most of the quote unquote replacing.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Of Singleton, Cody Barton, Green Dot guy Jeff Legwald somewhere
- 9:20Speaker 1: near the Nation's capital, just dodging lightning and falling trees
- 9:25Speaker 1: and whatever else is going on out there. Leggy, well
- 9:28Speaker 1: done as always, man, Thank you for calling back and
- 9:31Speaker 1: joining us on the show, and thank you for driving safely.
- 9:35Speaker 1: We appreciate it, buddy, any time. All right, that's the
- 9:39Speaker 1: great Jeff Legwalld brought to you by the International Brotherhood
- 9:41Speaker 1: of Electrical Workers ib e W Local sixty eight. Start
