- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode fifty nine of Cards
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Categories. I'm Mike Coolard, joined as always by my
- 0:22Speaker 1: very good friend and fellow Peven Smith enthusiast Jeremy Brewer,
- 0:26Speaker 1: also from Rasball.
- 0:27Speaker 2: How are you doing tonight, buddy, I'm doing well. I'm
- 0:29Speaker 2: a little exhausted enough for my victory lap on Peven
- 0:32Speaker 2: Smith this weekend, but I'm gonna I'm gonna make a
- 0:35Speaker 2: good recovery. There's only three weeks the season left to believe,
- 0:37Speaker 2: twenty days exactly at this point of our recording, so
- 0:42Speaker 2: I got a little time to recover from my victory lap.
- 0:45Speaker 2: It was a very short one, just around the bases
- 0:47Speaker 2: three hundred and sixty feet, but I'm out of shape,
- 0:51Speaker 2: so hey, hello, great to be here.
- 0:54Speaker 1: It was a deserved victory lap compared I mean, you
- 0:56Speaker 1: actually believed in Peyton Peven Smith in the skill set.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I just said, like, hey, this dude's playing right field
- 1:02Speaker 1: against right handed pitchers, and yeah, they face five ridis
- 1:06Speaker 1: this week.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Way to go Peven Smith. Way to go Peven Smith.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Way to ruin the deep sleeper fantasy call for next year.
- 1:13Speaker 2: But I'll still take my victory left now excellent.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Well, we've got a big rundown with that, though. You
- 1:20Speaker 1: want to like, what do you think we're doing with
- 1:22Speaker 1: Justin Verlander going forward? Do you think the Astros are
- 1:25Speaker 1: playing him down the stretch and actually letting him pitch
- 1:28Speaker 1: in the playoffs or is he toast? Because it looked
- 1:32Speaker 1: that way Sunday night against Arizona.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I think they're I think they're letting them play down
- 1:39Speaker 2: the stretch to figure out if they want to use
- 1:41Speaker 2: them beyond the stretch. Because if it's Verlander, if it's
- 1:46Speaker 2: like vintage Verlander or something close to it, you are thrilled,
- 1:50Speaker 2: you are excited, you want to use it, but you
- 1:52Speaker 2: got to figure out if that's what she got. And
- 1:54Speaker 2: to your point, he didn't look good. It wasn't exciting
- 1:58Speaker 2: to say the least. So I have to think it's
- 2:02Speaker 2: I'm thinking like your Verlander's, your Suresers, your the Grams,
- 2:06Speaker 2: like all those guys just seem to be like I
- 2:09Speaker 2: would say, peaking at the right wrong time. Peak has
- 2:12Speaker 2: a cliff at the end of it. They are falling
- 2:15Speaker 2: off all kind of at the end of their careers here,
- 2:17Speaker 2: and I do think Verlander's gonna be in a dicey
- 2:22Speaker 2: dicey spot. I mean, his velocity was pretty strong for
- 2:25Speaker 2: where he'd been, But beyond that, that's about all we
- 2:29Speaker 2: can can say for Verlander with that start there against Arizona.
- 2:33Speaker 2: So how about you? Are you are you investing in
- 2:36Speaker 2: Verlander here or are you sitting on the sidelines?
- 2:38Speaker 1: Oh, certainly not investing. But this has also been fun
- 2:42Speaker 1: because today, I think literally today fangrasts rolled out in
- 2:46Speaker 1: the game blogs. You can mess around with the pitching
- 2:49Speaker 1: bot and stuff plus metrics and sure enough it actually
- 2:52Speaker 1: it works so that justin Verlander, I'm looking at these
- 2:54Speaker 1: past few starts and the stuff plus has been fine,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and in fact, against Arizona, the overall stuff plus on
- 3:00Speaker 1: arsenal was rated as a one to twenty three. It's
- 3:03Speaker 1: the location that's been suffering. And I think you can
- 3:05Speaker 1: see this in terms of what took him so long
- 3:09Speaker 1: to get back from that neck injury and he's just
- 3:11Speaker 1: been dealing with back and shoulder issues that I think
- 3:14Speaker 1: that that's still lingering and messing with his ability to
- 3:18Speaker 1: locate and command his pitch arsenal. But the stuff is
- 3:21Speaker 1: still there, so I can see maybe like Houston trying
- 3:25Speaker 1: to very gently push him towards the bullpen for this
- 3:28Speaker 1: playoff run, but a healthy offseason could get Lander right
- 3:33Speaker 1: back on track. That honestly, I was in I was
- 3:38Speaker 1: preparing to just absolutely eulogize him and bury him here
- 3:41Speaker 1: in this little offhand segment. But now that I'm seeing
- 3:46Speaker 1: the stuff plus is looking okay, I'm watching him going
- 3:50Speaker 1: into twenty twenty five.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Now, yeah, you just ruined the rest of my night
- 3:55Speaker 2: for introducing stuff Plus and game logs. But beyond that, yeah,
- 3:59Speaker 2: that's I think that they're gonna get keep rolling them
- 4:02Speaker 2: out here down the stretch because they want to see
- 4:04Speaker 2: if they can get it right, because it he it's
- 4:08Speaker 2: been like that coming back off the injury. Just seems
- 4:11Speaker 2: like his location was okay, but his stuff wasn't quite there.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Then his stuff was coming back, and the location is
- 4:16Speaker 2: not there. Like it does feel like he's just he's
- 4:18Speaker 2: still trying to figure things out. Maybe he's been a
- 4:21Speaker 2: little more predictable. I haven't looked too too deeply at
- 4:24Speaker 2: his his his pitch, pitch types. You know, it looks
- 4:29Speaker 2: like he has relied a little bit more on the
- 4:30Speaker 2: fastball since he since he came back, but overall he
- 4:36Speaker 2: hasn't changed up the repertoire too much or anything like that,
- 4:40Speaker 2: But it is gonna be interesting. You know, the fastball
- 4:44Speaker 2: has been getting hammered since he came back, which is
- 4:47Speaker 2: you know, if you're struggling with location, you're leaving the
- 4:49Speaker 2: fastball up in the zone. That's what's gonna happen. So yeah,
- 4:53Speaker 2: I'm kind of with you. He's got to figure out
- 4:55Speaker 2: the control and that. I feel like that's the same
- 4:57Speaker 2: thing we say about so many pitchers. If you, uh,
- 5:00Speaker 2: you got all the skill in the world, you got
- 5:02Speaker 2: all the stuff in the world, but if you don't
- 5:03Speaker 2: know where it's going, it's not really going to work.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Yeah, it's kind of come full circle for him too,
- 5:08Speaker 1: because that was what Verlander was when he for some
- 5:10Speaker 1: up oddly like, yeah, I remember watching those games like
- 5:13Speaker 1: freshman year of college. That's so crazy, Like how long
- 5:17Speaker 1: Verlander has been around Slash how old we're getting. So
- 5:20Speaker 1: there's a good reminder. But yeah, this episode isn't all
- 5:23Speaker 1: about justin Verlander. We're speaking on Wednesday, September eleventh, which
- 5:27Speaker 1: happens to be Bowman Chrome twenty twenty four release date,
- 5:31Speaker 1: So that's what the big segment will be on the
- 5:33Speaker 1: back half. Of today's show. But let's kick off with
- 5:36Speaker 1: our kind of standard news and notes in terms of
- 5:38Speaker 1: what we're doing with some of this information on our
- 5:41Speaker 1: fantasy teams and just kind of chatting baseball overall. So
- 5:46Speaker 1: now that we kind of started with that little bit
- 5:49Speaker 1: of a downer note, I think with Justin Verlander, let's
- 5:51Speaker 1: get into the transactions side here. So we've got a
- 5:56Speaker 1: few injuries I think this week that especially will affect
- 5:59Speaker 1: us down down the stretch. But like I said, let's
- 6:02Speaker 1: do transactions first, and we're gonna start off in the
- 6:04Speaker 1: Bronx with Jason Dominguez being finally promoted there as the
- 6:09Speaker 1: calls to bring him up and play him over Alex
- 6:12Speaker 1: Verdugo just got too loud for the Yankees to be
- 6:15Speaker 1: able to handle. And uh, I mean tonight it's the
- 6:19Speaker 1: first time that they've had Domingaz and they're facing a
- 6:21Speaker 1: lefty and aren't letting him play. So we will see
- 6:25Speaker 1: if maybe that ends up being like a platoon situation,
- 6:27Speaker 1: which would also be odd considering that for Dugo is
- 6:31Speaker 1: left handed there. But Jason Dominguez had been playing I
- 6:35Speaker 1: would say relatively well for himself down to Triple A.
- 6:39Speaker 1: He was slashing three h nine, three sixty eight four eighty.
- 6:42Speaker 1: That was good for a one twenty WRC plus across
- 6:45Speaker 1: forty four games, seven homers, fifteen stolen bases ISO of
- 6:49Speaker 1: one seventy one, which was about where he was at
- 6:53Speaker 1: when he was called up last year, when he was
- 6:55Speaker 1: at a one sixty one isso in Well, I guess
- 6:58Speaker 1: that's only nine Triple A games, but he had a
- 6:59Speaker 1: one sixty ISO in Double A last year and a
- 7:03Speaker 1: one one eighteen WRC plus. But it was really time
- 7:08Speaker 1: I think for Jason Dimingez to really come up and
- 7:11Speaker 1: get into this Inky's lineup if he was going to
- 7:13Speaker 1: get any run in the playoffs. So Brew, what are
- 7:16Speaker 1: you doing with him down the stretch? In any fantasy
- 7:19Speaker 1: leagues where you might have been holding on to Jason
- 7:21Speaker 1: Deminguez mostly like throughout the entire year given his injury status.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think I'm treating dimingas right now
- 7:28Speaker 2: is kind of a third fourth outfielder with upside. Is
- 7:34Speaker 2: kind of where I've got him pegged, you know. I
- 7:36Speaker 2: think he's a guy that's gonna continue to have adjustment
- 7:40Speaker 2: periods that we have to work through. So I'm not
- 7:43Speaker 2: entirely you know, real to see what that if that
- 7:48Speaker 2: comes to fruition, you know. And I also think he's
- 7:50Speaker 2: in such a strong lineup that I you know, he's
- 7:53Speaker 2: gonna be batting, you know, towards the bottom of that lineup,
- 7:56Speaker 2: so he's not going to get the advantage of the
- 7:59Speaker 2: so you know, kind of judge value at the top
- 8:04Speaker 2: of it. He's not He's not far enough down the
- 8:08Speaker 2: line up either to be getting like run scored from them.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Either he's like in the worst position there to take
- 8:13Speaker 2: advantage of that. He's batten like six seven, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 2: most of the time at this point. The thing that's
- 8:20Speaker 2: gonna be as interesting for me, and this is just
- 8:22Speaker 2: maybe purely a gut thing, is that he has showed
- 8:25Speaker 2: a lot of speed in the miners, and actually very
- 8:28Speaker 2: very efficient speed in the miners. He I think he
- 8:30Speaker 2: was fifteen of sixteen steals just just this season, and
- 8:35Speaker 2: only you know, I say, a handful of games, handful
- 8:38Speaker 2: of probably understandment there, but I'm just I'm struggling to
- 8:42Speaker 2: see if that's going to translate. I the Yank He's
- 8:45Speaker 2: themselves generally aren't like a big boon to stolen bases,
- 8:49Speaker 2: and you know, Domingo's you know, his his body type
- 8:53Speaker 2: doesn't just yell like speed to me, and so it
- 8:57Speaker 2: it's one of those like is he just a smart
- 8:59Speaker 2: base run? Where's he actually had that blazing speed where
- 9:02Speaker 2: you can put up twenty seals a season And I'm
- 9:04Speaker 2: just not sure I see that. So I'm I'm interested.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I'm watching him for sure. I'm really not sure how
- 9:11Speaker 2: much I'm jaded by the card market for Jason Domingos
- 9:14Speaker 2: because he was like the biggest card for you know,
- 9:17Speaker 2: a year straight and he's he's looked every bit the
- 9:21Speaker 2: part in the in the miners here. So yeah, I'm creating,
- 9:25Speaker 2: like this said, the three four outfielder with upside, and
- 9:27Speaker 2: if I've stuck with him this long, I'm playing him. Yeah. Yeah,
- 9:30Speaker 2: I think so too.
- 9:31Speaker 1: That if you also were able to manage holding him
- 9:35Speaker 1: in an eye out spot, kudos to you because it
- 9:37Speaker 1: was it was rough.
- 9:38Speaker 2: That you had a good year, let's put it that.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Way exactly to be able to hang on to him.
- 9:43Speaker 1: So certainly you've got to play him if he's available.
- 9:47Speaker 1: And it's been a good week for the Yankees as
- 9:50Speaker 1: they've had a lot of home games and they'll be
- 9:52Speaker 1: competitive down the stretch, so you don't I don't think
- 9:54Speaker 1: I have to worry about there being any players like
- 9:57Speaker 1: rested around him that would really cause his value to
- 10:00Speaker 1: dip because I think they're going to be battling with
- 10:02Speaker 1: Baltimore all the way through the end of the season.
- 10:05Speaker 1: All right, onto the next transaction we've got, and that
- 10:08Speaker 1: is Kumar Rocker coming up for the Texas Rangers. He'll
- 10:11Speaker 1: make his debut tomorrow as we're speaking, but when this
- 10:15Speaker 1: pod drops, he'll be ready to go in the evening
- 10:19Speaker 1: for the Texas Rangers, making his MLB debut after being
- 10:24Speaker 1: picked in the twenty twenty two first round. And he's
- 10:29Speaker 1: been crazy good this year as he's bounced back from
- 10:33Speaker 1: Tommy John surgery. His last two stops in Double A
- 10:36Speaker 1: and Triple A were magnificent point four to six at
- 10:39Speaker 1: RA over nine in nineteen and two thirds at Double A,
- 10:43Speaker 1: one point eight ERA over ten innings in Triple A.
- 10:47Speaker 1: And this is totally a situation of ten staff. I
- 10:52Speaker 1: think in terms of there is no such thing as
- 10:53Speaker 1: a pitching prospect, because when they're ready to go, you
- 10:56Speaker 1: got to bring them up. And that looks like the
- 10:58Speaker 1: case with Kumar Rockers. So is this a player that
- 11:01Speaker 1: you would be using down the stretch.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, I'm I'm all in in Kuma Rocker. You know,
- 11:08Speaker 2: we've talked. I've eulogized on this this pod a number
- 11:12Speaker 2: of time the things I look for, and he has
- 11:14Speaker 2: it in spades, Like he you know everything I look for.
- 11:17Speaker 2: You look for a strikeout upside, you look for for
- 11:19Speaker 2: for walk for low walks, you look for ground balls.
- 11:22Speaker 2: You know, he's a guy that's averaged mid fifties up
- 11:25Speaker 2: to sixties, and his ground ball percentages and we're talking
- 11:28Speaker 2: small sample sizes in the minors. His walk rates has
- 11:32Speaker 2: been in a single walk rate per nine and his
- 11:35Speaker 2: strikeouts have been thirteen to sixteen per nine. He's like
- 11:38Speaker 2: on the outer bounds. It's like the Adam Dunne of
- 11:40Speaker 2: pitchers type of thing. Three true outcomes there. And I'm
- 11:45Speaker 2: fully in on him to your point, like he's he's
- 11:49Speaker 2: had the Tommy John surgery. He I think he probably
- 11:52Speaker 2: gets a little bit underestimated because he has an injury
- 11:54Speaker 2: history like a air quote. But yet, you know, we
- 11:58Speaker 2: all know the Tommy John history of now is not
- 12:00Speaker 2: what it used to be. And like it's kind of
- 12:02Speaker 2: like he's got that out of the way, and he
- 12:03Speaker 2: hasn't had other naggy injuries come up and second pieces.
- 12:08Speaker 2: He's really good, fun to root for, like he was
- 12:10Speaker 2: a He was a force in college there Vanderbilt, him
- 12:13Speaker 2: and Jack Lighter And now then he had the unfortunate
- 12:17Speaker 2: UH draft situation where he went tenth overall to to
- 12:22Speaker 2: the wonderful Mets, who refused to sign him because of
- 12:25Speaker 2: injury concerns. Then he went and blew up the Frontier League,
- 12:32Speaker 2: which is really nice. What else what is he gonna
- 12:34Speaker 2: do in the Frontier League, Let's be honest, And the
- 12:38Speaker 2: whole twenty innings pitch got him selected third overall the
- 12:41Speaker 2: next year by the Rangers, which was a shock, right.
- 12:43Speaker 2: I think a lot of a lot of folks thought
- 12:44Speaker 2: he was gonna go maybe late first round, early second. Yes,
- 12:47Speaker 2: don't don't get me wrong. They were probably trying to
- 12:49Speaker 2: save a little bit of money there. But I think
- 12:53Speaker 2: there's a lot to like with Kumar Rocker. He is,
- 12:56Speaker 2: I think capped at fifty innings this year, I think
- 12:58Speaker 2: is what the Rangers have said. So let's be honest,
- 13:01Speaker 2: You've got like three starts out of the guy, and
- 13:03Speaker 2: he's probably to go like maybe four or five innings
- 13:06Speaker 2: in those, but I think you'll be very pleased with
- 13:08Speaker 2: what you get during those. So I'm all on Rocker
- 13:12Speaker 2: rocking to the bank with him next year as well.
- 13:17Speaker 2: So he's a huge buy for me in dynasty leagues
- 13:21Speaker 2: right now. Yes, yeah, I think so too.
- 13:23Speaker 1: That until he shows that he can't sustain the help,
- 13:27Speaker 1: I think you've got to be writing what he's doing
- 13:30Speaker 1: right now. So I totally agree. I'm hoping that the
- 13:34Speaker 1: debut is great and that like he can just show
- 13:37Speaker 1: that he can stick for the rest of the season,
- 13:39Speaker 1: because it'll be interesting where he goes next year in drafts.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And he only gets fifteen major league innings essentially because
- 13:46Speaker 1: he's at thirty six and two thirds across the three
- 13:50Speaker 1: levels right now, so he's got like, you know, thirteen
- 13:53Speaker 1: and the third left in the arm, give or take
- 13:55Speaker 1: to get to that fifty inning mark. So it could
- 13:58Speaker 1: be a really interesting top of the pitching class next
- 14:02Speaker 1: year when we're just considering all of these really small
- 14:04Speaker 1: sample sized pitchers, and Rocker will be right in that mix.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I think, yeah, right, there's gonna be a spot right
- 14:10Speaker 2: in the middle of the draft where it's like, do
- 14:11Speaker 2: you take the reliable veteran or do you take the gamble,
- 14:14Speaker 2: And I think he's one of those good, good gambles
- 14:16Speaker 2: that I'm willing to take. Got it all right.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Next call up we have is not quite on the
- 14:21Speaker 1: same level as Dominguez and Rocker, but we're looking at
- 14:24Speaker 1: another top prospect here, and that is Thomas Sagasi from
- 14:29Speaker 1: the Saint Louis Cardinals has been called up and joined
- 14:32Speaker 1: the major league roster. He debuted last night at shortstop
- 14:35Speaker 1: and it looks like he'll kind of spell people around
- 14:38Speaker 1: the infield between. He can play all four infield spots.
- 14:42Speaker 1: He's been playing latches shortstop for the Cardinals down in
- 14:45Speaker 1: Triple A this year, but has experienced playing third, second,
- 14:49Speaker 1: and first, and he is really known for that just
- 14:54Speaker 1: overall utility man. I think effort as well as he's
- 14:59Speaker 1: he just has a great, I would say, like vibe
- 15:04Speaker 1: to him in terms of like leadership and everything that
- 15:08Speaker 1: you read about him is that he's just got a
- 15:10Speaker 1: really solid head on his shoulders. From what everybody says
- 15:14Speaker 1: on the scouting end, A lot of it too is
- 15:16Speaker 1: I was reading that he actually like grew up with
- 15:20Speaker 1: his mom passed away when he was in high school
- 15:22Speaker 1: from brain cancer and he's just kind of a I
- 15:25Speaker 1: think that kind of gave him a different perspective on
- 15:28Speaker 1: life coming up. But down in Triple A he was
- 15:32Speaker 1: hitting two fifty three, three thirteen, four thirty eight. That
- 15:35Speaker 1: was good for a ninety two WRC plus, but did
- 15:38Speaker 1: come with twenty homers and nine steals, So not exactly
- 15:42Speaker 1: like a blazing bat. But he is twenty two years old,
- 15:45Speaker 1: and what do you expect for him to do down
- 15:48Speaker 1: the stretch with the Cardinals.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's funny when you come up on
- 15:52Speaker 2: a team and your doppelganger sitting there. Brendan Donovan is
- 15:57Speaker 2: basically the JC here.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Across the on the other side of the plate though, But.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Let's let's be honest, from a pure like body build,
- 16:08Speaker 2: like profile, versatility, like it's it's just the other side
- 16:12Speaker 2: of the plate version, like, uh, you know, they can
- 16:15Speaker 2: be playing next to each other and getting confused. Probably
- 16:18Speaker 2: not actually truly from a look perspective, but yeah, I like,
- 16:22Speaker 2: I like so JC. You know, I actually probably hire
- 16:25Speaker 2: him last year than come into this year. I think
- 16:27Speaker 2: he took a little bit, uh step back. I think
- 16:29Speaker 2: he got a jolts at the end of last year
- 16:31Speaker 2: after the trade. He was just phenomenal last year, and
- 16:35Speaker 2: I think he's gonna still be good, but much more
- 16:38Speaker 2: in that uh utility type role. He's the kind of
- 16:41Speaker 2: guy that you're going to be looking for maybe later
- 16:42Speaker 2: in drafts or filling up filling spots. I think he's
- 16:45Speaker 2: gonna be a popular guy that he's gonna get some
- 16:47Speaker 2: really good flexibility and be a really popular utility kind
- 16:52Speaker 2: of kind of pick uh in next year. I'm watching
- 16:55Speaker 2: the rest of the year this year. I I don't
- 16:58Speaker 2: have a whole lot of faith in what the Cardinals
- 17:00Speaker 2: doing right now. They committed to Walker, It's the only
- 17:03Speaker 2: thing they've committed to, so I wish they'd give him
- 17:07Speaker 2: a good run at it, but I don't think that's
- 17:09Speaker 2: gonna happen. I think you're right, he's a super utilities
- 17:11Speaker 2: position for now.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, I think that's fair. And I mean, I
- 17:15Speaker 1: think he could be in that first space mix going
- 17:17Speaker 1: into next year because I don't think gold Schmid's I mean,
- 17:21Speaker 1: he's been playing better of late, but I don't think
- 17:23Speaker 1: gold Schmith's probably done enough to claw back a guaranteed
- 17:26Speaker 1: contract in Saint Louis again. Plus honestly, if you I
- 17:29Speaker 1: was gold Schmid, I'd be trying to chase a championship
- 17:32Speaker 1: at this point either. And I don't think the Cardinals
- 17:34Speaker 1: will be quite in that boat for him.
- 17:36Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm it's maybe this is just the
- 17:39Speaker 2: homer in me. I feel like the Cardinals are gonna
- 17:41Speaker 2: resign him for like a three year, thirty nine million
- 17:43Speaker 2: dollar type deal and just because they still believe, well, yeah,
- 17:48Speaker 2: we will see, okay.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Next move that we have, and I mean, speaking of
- 17:53Speaker 1: signing extensions and staying in places, Matt Chapman signed with
- 17:58Speaker 1: the San Francisco Giants in a very rare move for
- 18:01Speaker 1: a Scott Boris client to extend in one place, signing
- 18:05Speaker 1: a six year extension with San Francisco that will pretty
- 18:08Speaker 1: much lock him up for the rest of his career
- 18:10Speaker 1: as he's thirty one right now. But it's been a
- 18:13Speaker 1: really fantastic year for Matt Chapman that I've been certainly
- 18:17Speaker 1: reaping the benefits. As you know, in one of our
- 18:20Speaker 1: big leagues that like he was a very late third
- 18:22Speaker 1: base pickup, and I took that strategy in lots of
- 18:25Speaker 1: places that it just did seem that like he was
- 18:28Speaker 1: going way to cheap this year, given I've always liked
- 18:31Speaker 1: that Matt Chapman stays on the field for the defense,
- 18:34Speaker 1: and he's right now fifth in the NL in war
- 18:37Speaker 1: with four point nine, tied with Bryce Harper, and has
- 18:41Speaker 1: slashed two fifty one, three thirty four, four point fifty
- 18:44Speaker 1: one for one twenty WRC plus twenty three homers fifteen
- 18:48Speaker 1: stolen bases across one hundred and forty one games for
- 18:52Speaker 1: the Giants. So a lot of that value is coming
- 18:55Speaker 1: from just being a jack of all trades in the
- 18:59Speaker 1: fantasy categories US. The ninety two runs has nothing to
- 19:02Speaker 1: sniff at if you're playing roto leagues that it's tough
- 19:04Speaker 1: to get that type of production. And I know you've
- 19:07Speaker 1: been a big Matt Chapman fan for quite a while.
- 19:10Speaker 1: What do you think of him extending to stay in
- 19:12Speaker 1: San Francisco and what that could mean for, you know,
- 19:15Speaker 1: the outlook of his career in the next couple of years.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think it's a good move for him.
- 19:20Speaker 2: He's locking up some reliability. He you know, I really
- 19:23Speaker 2: love Chapman. When we first came up with Oakland, there's
- 19:25Speaker 2: a ton of potential there, big power bat To your point,
- 19:28Speaker 2: the glove is something that's underrated in our fantasy game
- 19:31Speaker 2: because it does keep him on the field no matter what.
- 19:35Speaker 2: He's going to get those appearances. The last few years,
- 19:38Speaker 2: he's really really struggled with strikeouts and that's made him
- 19:42Speaker 2: pretty unreliable and really torpedoed that batting average, which has
- 19:45Speaker 2: kind of soured me to a degree. He's turned that
- 19:48Speaker 2: around a little bit this year and randomly started running,
- 19:51Speaker 2: which I feel like I can put zero stock in
- 19:53Speaker 2: Matt Chapman continuing to run. Maybe that's just me that
- 19:57Speaker 2: just feels like the biggest outlier there is in this file.
- 20:01Speaker 2: But if you're buying what he's doing this year at
- 20:04Speaker 2: that level, I feel like this level, outside of the speed,
- 20:07Speaker 2: is probably who Matt Chapman is. I do worry a
- 20:10Speaker 2: little bit that the extension, like there's this like stigma.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Stigma's not the right word, but it's this little provenance
- 20:17Speaker 2: of signing an extension that makes players seem better than
- 20:20Speaker 2: they are. And I don't think Chapman is like vaulted
- 20:23Speaker 2: in the top of the third base rankings by any mean,
- 20:25Speaker 2: So I think he's still there, but he's not Rofie Devers.
- 20:28Speaker 2: You know, he's not Austin Riley. He's not even like
- 20:31Speaker 2: an Alex Bregman in my book, but he's still in
- 20:34Speaker 2: that you know, ten to twelve kind of ranking order
- 20:38Speaker 2: for me. For Chapman, so liking going forward if the
- 20:43Speaker 2: price is right. But I do think he made a
- 20:45Speaker 2: really good choice sticking around in San Francisco. I think
- 20:48Speaker 2: it's a great ballpark for him. I think it's a
- 20:49Speaker 2: great situation for him, and he's gonna get to spend
- 20:52Speaker 2: basically his entire career in the Bay minus a little
- 20:55Speaker 2: detour to Canada. Yeah.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Well, I mean the Canada detwo was real bad for him.
- 21:01Speaker 1: So I do think that's been part of it too,
- 21:03Speaker 1: is that, I mean, he is a northern California guy,
- 21:06Speaker 1: like he went to cal State Fullerton, came through that
- 21:09Speaker 1: Oakland system. That it feels like he enjoys playing in
- 21:14Speaker 1: northern California and will find a great home there in
- 21:18Speaker 1: San Francisco. That I think that's been part of the
- 21:20Speaker 1: reason why he's been playing so much better and part
- 21:22Speaker 1: of the reason I was like investing from just like
- 21:24Speaker 1: that narrative standpoint that it seemed like he could just
- 21:27Speaker 1: kind of settle into what his normal routine had been since,
- 21:32Speaker 1: you know, he was eighteen years old or whatever, going
- 21:35Speaker 1: to cal State Fullerton. And part of it, too, is
- 21:38Speaker 1: like the WRC has really bounced back that it is
- 21:40Speaker 1: a two fifty one average, But a two fifty one
- 21:43Speaker 1: average is pretty solid in today's fantasy environment. That's not
- 21:48Speaker 1: going to kill you the way that it would have
- 21:50Speaker 1: a couple of years ago. So I think if you
- 21:53Speaker 1: if he can keep up this contact profile that he's
- 21:56Speaker 1: put up this year, and I think he can. He
- 21:58Speaker 1: had been battling injuries, seemed like with Toronto and maybe
- 22:02Speaker 1: it's just kind of found a comfort, just an overall
- 22:05Speaker 1: comfort level when he's in the Bay Area, So I
- 22:08Speaker 1: think he can maintain that going forward. And even if
- 22:12Speaker 1: he doesn't have like the greatest power stats, if he's
- 22:15Speaker 1: making more contact in Oracle Park, like that'll play a
- 22:18Speaker 1: little bit more because of just the size of the park.
- 22:21Speaker 1: It gives them the ability to hit more for more doubles,
- 22:24Speaker 1: more triples, and just kind of pop in those little
- 22:27Speaker 1: bass hits here and there. All Right, next transaction we've
- 22:33Speaker 1: got is, uh, we've actually got a couple of returners,
- 22:36Speaker 1: veteran returners from injuries. So these should be fun and
- 22:40Speaker 1: this next one. I'm pretty excited about because I thought
- 22:45Speaker 1: that maybe Jacob de Gram would like dial it back
- 22:47Speaker 1: and notch like coming back from this Tommy John surgery
- 22:50Speaker 1: to the second Tommy John surgery, and he's starting to
- 22:52Speaker 1: get pretty old. He's thirty six and is set to
- 22:57Speaker 1: return Friday here for the Texas Rangers. But all reports
- 23:00Speaker 1: have been that he's just down in the minors throwing
- 23:03Speaker 1: pure gas, you know, sitting one hundred and ninety nine
- 23:06Speaker 1: that he always has been, and looks like he's ready
- 23:10Speaker 1: to come back and do the same for the Texas Rangers.
- 23:12Speaker 2: So it doesn't look like that.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Second Tommy John has really slowed him down much that
- 23:18Speaker 1: he has thrown ten and two thirds innings over four
- 23:22Speaker 1: starts in double A and triple A, and just in
- 23:26Speaker 1: those ten two thirds innings, he has been brutal, struck
- 23:30Speaker 1: out fifteen of those minor leaguers against just one walk.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Yeah, one walk.
- 23:36Speaker 1: So the control seems to be there, which is usually
- 23:40Speaker 1: the last thing that comes back for Tommy John. What
- 23:43Speaker 1: are you doing here with Jacob de Gram down the
- 23:45Speaker 1: stretch and I mean we're past trade deadline, so you
- 23:49Speaker 1: can't necessarily go out and trade for him. But let's
- 23:52Speaker 1: say theoretically like this that happened maybe a month ago,
- 23:55Speaker 1: and you have somebody in this situation more of like
- 23:58Speaker 1: a higher level strategy. If we have somebody coming down
- 24:02Speaker 1: the pike next year with this situation, I'm trying to
- 24:05Speaker 1: think there's any honestly, Spencer Streider will be close to
- 24:08Speaker 1: this sort of situation coming down into like the last
- 24:13Speaker 1: month of twenty twenty five. So what do you do
- 24:16Speaker 1: with pictures like this that are coming back Like Jacob
- 24:18Speaker 1: de Gram.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's one of those two point if
- 24:22Speaker 2: if the trade window is open, it would be pretty
- 24:24Speaker 2: much impossible to trade for him or trade him away
- 24:28Speaker 2: like he's I think he's positioned himself in one of
- 24:30Speaker 2: those where he's Jacob de Gram. He's got an amazing history,
- 24:35Speaker 2: he's got all this potential and then he's come out
- 24:37Speaker 2: in his rehab starts and just looks phenomenal. And so
- 24:41Speaker 2: you're if you own him, if you relied on him
- 24:44Speaker 2: and waited until the point earlier on your I L
- 24:48Speaker 2: this long, you are not letting him go for anything
- 24:51Speaker 2: because you were expecting top three pictures. Jacob de Grom unreasonable,
- 24:55Speaker 2: but that's what you're expecting if you're trying to acquire him,
- 24:58Speaker 2: you're trying to buy low because of all the injuries, Like,
- 25:01Speaker 2: it's just not gonna match up. But I do think
- 25:05Speaker 2: you have to you have to roll. I think there's
- 25:08Speaker 2: gonna be some hiccups. I think it's gonna be he's
- 25:09Speaker 2: gonna be one of those, Uh, I'm gonna say Spencer
- 25:12Speaker 2: Arraghetty types right now, that's a really bad comp I'm
- 25:15Speaker 2: sorry Jacob deGrom for saying that, but I think he's
- 25:18Speaker 2: gonna be like lights out, lights out, get shelled, lights out,
- 25:21Speaker 2: lights out. Like I think it's gonna be one of
- 25:23Speaker 2: those where he's the field is gonna it's gonna be
- 25:24Speaker 2: all on the field, and he's gonna probably lose the
- 25:27Speaker 2: feel a little bit more than he has traditionally because
- 25:29Speaker 2: he never really has. And so there's gonna be a
- 25:31Speaker 2: few bumps along the road. But really, if he can
- 25:34Speaker 2: come back, he's gonna earn himself back in that top
- 25:37Speaker 2: ten starting pitching and going into the next year. If
- 25:39Speaker 2: he can just have a healthy end of the month
- 25:41Speaker 2: here with those velocities keeping the ball in the ballpark.
- 25:45Speaker 2: There's a lot to be said, And to your point,
- 25:47Speaker 2: I think it's gonna speak volumes for guys like Strider,
- 25:51Speaker 2: other guys coming back from injury, risk that it can
- 25:55Speaker 2: be done, and don't look at the show point of
- 25:59Speaker 2: like justin Lander. Don't look at the forty one year old,
- 26:01Speaker 2: look at the thirty six year old for this. So
- 26:04Speaker 2: I'm excited to see what happens. But I think we're
- 26:07Speaker 2: all kind of along the ride at this point.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I love watching him pitch, so I
- 26:12Speaker 1: will be very excited to see Jacob de Gram on
- 26:15Speaker 1: Friday night.
- 26:16Speaker 2: And I don't know, honestly, like, if he.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Looks really good down the stretch, we might almost have
- 26:20Speaker 1: to redo the back end of that first round mock
- 26:23Speaker 1: draft that we had because it's gonna be hard for
- 26:26Speaker 1: people that have been in on Jacob de Gram and
- 26:29Speaker 1: especially I have used him to win leagues in the
- 26:31Speaker 1: past to give up that ghost. If he looks really
- 26:34Speaker 1: good and is healthy down the stretch, all right. Next
- 26:38Speaker 1: veteran we have returning from injury is Trevor Story for
- 26:42Speaker 1: the Boston Red Sox, who has come back from what
- 26:45Speaker 1: was supposed to be a season ending shoulder injury. We
- 26:49Speaker 1: talked about it that way when it happened back in April,
- 26:52Speaker 1: had been out since April fifth, but returned just on
- 26:57Speaker 1: Sunday against the White Sox, I believe, So let me
- 27:00Speaker 1: see if I've got my dates, rit Nope, it was Saturday,
- 27:03Speaker 1: so close enough. But he's been back now for a
- 27:05Speaker 1: handful of games and has struggled a little bit.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Let me.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I mean, it's only been three games at this point,
- 27:12Speaker 1: but it has been eleven played appearances with a thirty
- 27:16Speaker 1: six percent strikeout rate, three singles. And I think that's
- 27:20Speaker 1: what I'm concerned about here with Trevor's story down the
- 27:23Speaker 1: stretch a little bit with why I didn't acquire any
- 27:27Speaker 1: Xander Bogart shares when he got dropped from his shoulder
- 27:30Speaker 1: injury too, is that you could see it when he
- 27:32Speaker 1: was on his triple A rehabs start again. Pretty small,
- 27:35Speaker 1: but in those four games, over sixteen play appearances, one double,
- 27:40Speaker 1: So I think story is really going to struggle to
- 27:43Speaker 1: find the power here down the stretch. But would you
- 27:46Speaker 1: maybe WHOA, it's a I don't know when the last
- 27:49Speaker 1: time we've been recording this, I've had a voice crack
- 27:51Speaker 1: like that. But that's a good one. But would you
- 27:54Speaker 1: maybe be looking at him for a speed asset down
- 27:58Speaker 1: the stretch.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I might. I'd probably be willing to take a
- 28:02Speaker 2: gamble on him as a speed asset down the stretch.
- 28:04Speaker 2: But I'm not really too overly enamored to the kind
- 28:07Speaker 2: of the point you made that he I am worried
- 28:10Speaker 2: about the strength coming back I've got. I'm not worried
- 28:14Speaker 2: about this is a long term lingering injury. Actually, ironically,
- 28:17Speaker 2: a lot of stories injuries like have been these really
- 28:20Speaker 2: fluky things that I'm not terribly concerned. It's like, it's
- 28:24Speaker 2: not like a low back injuries. It's not like, you know,
- 28:27Speaker 2: he's Ronald Koony and keeps blowing out all his acls
- 28:30Speaker 2: like it seems like they're all these kind of freak things,
- 28:34Speaker 2: which is really unfortunate and so but at the same time,
- 28:38Speaker 2: like I think it's gonna I think he's essentially rehabbing
- 28:41Speaker 2: the major like it's kind of the way I'm looking
- 28:43Speaker 2: at it right now. But I'm actually slightly intrigued with
- 28:47Speaker 2: Trevor Story going to the next year. And that's mainly
- 28:51Speaker 2: because of the price, because I think the price is
- 28:53Speaker 2: free or close to it, and so I think, you know,
- 28:57Speaker 2: Trevor Story, it's it's not that many years ago that
- 29:01Speaker 2: we were talking about. Trevor story is like a top
- 29:03Speaker 2: of the first round player, and he's had three seasons
- 29:08Speaker 2: now in Boston where he has yet to accumulate enough
- 29:10Speaker 2: games to have a full one sixty two game season
- 29:13Speaker 2: because of just these freak injuries. But the talent is
- 29:16Speaker 2: still there, and he's still young enough. He's he's just
- 29:19Speaker 2: thirty one. He'll be in his thirty two year old
- 29:21Speaker 2: season next year, and so you know, and it's not
- 29:24Speaker 2: like his contracts running out anytime soon, so they're gonna
- 29:28Speaker 2: be they're gonna be relying on him. So I'm willing
- 29:30Speaker 2: to take a gamble middle endfield type thing next year
- 29:34Speaker 2: for Trevor's story, knowing that there is actually a lot
- 29:37Speaker 2: of upside there, and it's not prospect upside, it's the
- 29:40Speaker 2: upside that everybody's like, well he's over, it's all over with,
- 29:43Speaker 2: it's not coming back. Carlos Korea kind of did the
- 29:46Speaker 2: same thing. It's like, the talent is there, it's just
- 29:49Speaker 2: a matter of can he get really truly healthy. And
- 29:51Speaker 2: this year was supposed to be that year until just
- 29:53Speaker 2: a freak injury. So I'm I'm invested in Trevor story.
- 29:58Speaker 2: I'm surprised myself say that, but I am no.
- 30:02Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's a that's a fair take
- 30:04Speaker 1: because you are looking at Boston is a top ten
- 30:07Speaker 1: offense by w RC plus going into this offseason. They've
- 30:11Speaker 1: only got two free agents that will be coming off
- 30:15Speaker 1: the roster that's in the everyday lineup, and that's Tyler
- 30:19Speaker 1: O'Neill and the second one is Danny Jansen. So you're
- 30:22Speaker 1: looking at Trevor's story in a pretty dynamic Boston offense.
- 30:26Speaker 1: That's also you've had Raffy Devers had a bit of
- 30:29Speaker 1: a down year with a bum shoulder for a lot
- 30:31Speaker 1: of the year. I mean, obviously Jared Durant has been
- 30:33Speaker 1: playing like at an MVP level, but you'll get you know,
- 30:37Speaker 1: Masatak Yoshida just with another year underneath his belt, and
- 30:41Speaker 1: MLB Tristan Costas will be around for the entire year.
- 30:44Speaker 1: And that's not even to mention anything about like Roman
- 30:47Speaker 1: Anthony coming up, Marcel Mayer coming up. So I think
- 30:50Speaker 1: Bobby sorry, he got cut, so I know he got
- 30:55Speaker 1: dfade and sent back to Triple as nobody else wanted them,
- 30:58Speaker 1: so he still could come back. When I saw that happen.
- 31:01Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, the memories of all those Bobby
- 31:03Speaker 1: Doll like rookie carts I sold back in twenty twenty.
- 31:06Speaker 2: What a time.
- 31:10Speaker 1: But yeah, I think that's a great take that. I
- 31:12Speaker 1: think it's it's something to kind of watch down the
- 31:15Speaker 1: stretch and if we are wrong and the power flashes, Like, honestly,
- 31:19Speaker 1: if you're looking into story for twenty twenty five, maybe
- 31:22Speaker 1: you want that power to be tamped down and hoping
- 31:26Speaker 1: that you know, he can just kind of find a
- 31:28Speaker 1: rhythm and be able to come back healthy for twenty
- 31:30Speaker 1: twenty five.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're really excited for twenty five if
- 31:34Speaker 2: you see him running well, if you see himthing line
- 31:36Speaker 2: drives and you see him playing every day, like you're
- 31:39Speaker 2: really happy with that. If the power's not there, as
- 31:42Speaker 2: long as he's sitting the ball hard across the field,
- 31:45Speaker 2: that's gonna be a really really good sign for next year.
- 31:48Speaker 1: All Right, Well, the next transaction we got it is
- 31:51Speaker 1: a sad one. We're going to stay in Boston, but
- 31:53Speaker 1: they have officially cut Rich Hill good Old Dick Mountain
- 31:57Speaker 1: after three and two thirds there this season as a
- 32:00Speaker 1: forty four year old. It was a four ninety one era,
- 32:03Speaker 1: but the FIP was seven to twenty seven as he
- 32:05Speaker 1: was really struggling to find the zone, but not terribly
- 32:08Speaker 1: surprising considering the curveball heavy arsenal from rich Hill. This
- 32:13Speaker 1: is more of a fun question here is so Rich
- 32:16Speaker 1: Hill is at thirteen franchises right now for like, how
- 32:20Speaker 1: many he's played for across MLB, one short of the
- 32:23Speaker 1: record of Edwin Jackson. Where would you have rich Hill
- 32:27Speaker 1: signed so that he can get his fourteenth team knocked
- 32:29Speaker 1: out before the end of the season.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Oh, that's a tough one.
- 32:32Speaker 1: That's the other question. To do it without looking at
- 32:35Speaker 1: ball Baseball reference page, and I can tell you if
- 32:37Speaker 1: you're wrong, if he's already played for that team.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Man, it's like a fifty to fifty shot. Here. I'm
- 32:45Speaker 2: going to say rich Hill he is the best fit
- 32:50Speaker 2: right now. And I don't think he's played there, but
- 32:53Speaker 2: I feel about thirty percent confident of saying that is
- 32:57Speaker 2: Baltimore he has played there. Oh, dang it. When did
- 33:03Speaker 2: he play in Baltimore?
- 33:05Speaker 1: It was early. It was when he in two thousand
- 33:07Speaker 1: and nine, when he was.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Baltimore wasn't playing baseball. Then let's be very clear.
- 33:12Speaker 1: That's like when he was like, you know, cut essentially
- 33:15Speaker 1: from the Cubs and was floating there in free space
- 33:19Speaker 1: for a little bit. That that's when Baltimore picked him
- 33:22Speaker 1: up in that initial kind of like m about of
- 33:25Speaker 1: turmoil in his career. So he has pitched for Baltimore.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Okay, the thirteen games, I'm gonna I'm gonna say I'm
- 33:30Speaker 2: not too disappointed in myself on that one.
- 33:33Speaker 1: That was fifteen years ago.
- 33:36Speaker 2: My other my other call was going to be New York.
- 33:38Speaker 2: The Yankees also pitched there, So yeah, I'm but I
- 33:44Speaker 2: think that was even just also another partial season as well.
- 33:46Speaker 2: It was there, so many.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Of these are full seasons.
- 33:52Speaker 2: What what I want to know is from a Boston perspective, was,
- 33:56Speaker 2: you know, this is kind of this weird karma for
- 33:58Speaker 2: rich Hill. He played his cards to be able to
- 34:01Speaker 2: come back and try to make a roster to be
- 34:04Speaker 2: post he's in eligible, and then he gets cut after
- 34:06Speaker 2: three and two thirds innings because his velocity was I
- 34:13Speaker 2: was peaking up about eighty six and I think he
- 34:16Speaker 2: was throwing the seventies a majority of the time with
- 34:18Speaker 2: his curveball, and so man, that's got a stink for him.
- 34:22Speaker 2: He's because he's not post. He's eligible now for any
- 34:24Speaker 2: anywhere else he signs. Yeah, and so also the same time, Boston,
- 34:30Speaker 2: why did you bother? Like what were you even doing?
- 34:33Speaker 2: Very good question. Yeah, I'm not sure. I saw he
- 34:36Speaker 2: got designated him, Like, didn't he just start? And he
- 34:40Speaker 2: wasn't terrible. It wasn't good, it wasn't terrible. He's you know,
- 34:47Speaker 2: there's worst things out there. That's that's that's for certain.
- 34:52Speaker 2: I mean, just like at the Chicago White Sox, my friend. Yeah,
- 34:55Speaker 2: you can say that with the whole league. There's worse
- 34:57Speaker 2: things out there when you get the White Sox except
- 34:59Speaker 2: for Chris gets. He thinks we're really good.
- 35:03Speaker 1: You still didn't answer what team are you sending him to?
- 35:06Speaker 2: I'm I have to pick a team that he's not
- 35:09Speaker 2: on because I'm sending them to Baltimore. I think that's
- 35:11Speaker 2: where he belongs.
- 35:12Speaker 1: He can't if you're gonna get that fourteenth team, I
- 35:15Speaker 1: can tell you my choice would be Cincinnati because that's
- 35:18Speaker 1: actually who he originally was drafted by in nineteen ninety nine.
- 35:23Speaker 1: He was directed in nineteen ninety nine by the Cincinnati
- 35:25Speaker 1: Rids out of high school that he never played for them,
- 35:28Speaker 1: So why not write it out.
- 35:30Speaker 2: So if you're going there, I'm sending them to Colorado. Okay, Yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 2: I just think that it's one of those such a
- 35:39Speaker 2: terrible matches that it would work. Yes, Rachel curveballs in
- 35:43Speaker 2: Colorado in the thin air, somehows generally ground balls out
- 35:46Speaker 2: of those. Fantastic choice.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Okay, Well, let's flip over to those injuries that I
- 35:53Speaker 1: was talking about, because we do have some decent level
- 35:56Speaker 1: injuries I think that are going to affect fantasy teams
- 35:59Speaker 1: out there down the stretch. The first one is we
- 36:01Speaker 1: have pitcher from the Seattle Mariners, Louis Castillo, going on
- 36:05Speaker 1: the IL with a hammy strain, and it has been
- 36:11Speaker 1: an interesting season. I would say for Louis Castillo. As
- 36:13Speaker 1: it's on the surface, it's looked pretty good. You know,
- 36:16Speaker 1: he's given you one hundred and seventy five and one
- 36:18Speaker 1: thirds innings with eleven wins, a three sixty four er.
- 36:24Speaker 1: But on the other hand, the strikeouts have started to
- 36:28Speaker 1: back up those homers that we were talking about in
- 36:31Speaker 1: the preseason. Both of us had were really pushing Louis
- 36:35Speaker 1: Castill down draft boards. So I've only got like one
- 36:38Speaker 1: share of him right now, and that was because I
- 36:40Speaker 1: picked him up at like a trade deadline and a
- 36:43Speaker 1: innings pitched based head to head league, so he was
- 36:47Speaker 1: crucial for that. But otherwise, I think you were probably
- 36:51Speaker 1: disappointed if you drafted Louise Castillo because lots of people
- 36:54Speaker 1: had to take him as their number one starter this year.
- 36:57Speaker 1: And so do you think that this trend continues for
- 37:00Speaker 1: Castillo or do we get something where he finds some
- 37:05Speaker 1: fountain of youth and bounces back to what we were
- 37:07Speaker 1: seeing a little bit maybe in Cincinnati or twenty twenty
- 37:10Speaker 1: two Seattle.
- 37:12Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, I think I think it's gonna get
- 37:14Speaker 2: to get worse from here. Like I he I feel
- 37:18Speaker 2: like he got lucky this year if you look at
- 37:20Speaker 2: the numbers, like and I hate to rehash like where
- 37:23Speaker 2: we started with him, but like, you know, I think,
- 37:25Speaker 2: you know, if I remember the talk track that we had,
- 37:27Speaker 2: you know, and I didn't listen to that pod of
- 37:30Speaker 2: the pod before before we recorded tonight, but you know,
- 37:34Speaker 2: he has always had home run issues and he kind
- 37:38Speaker 2: of got a little lucky the last few years in there,
- 37:40Speaker 2: and he kind of maintained that a little again this year,
- 37:43Speaker 2: to the point the velocity has now ticked down in
- 37:46Speaker 2: five straight seasons, and it was actually a pretty decent
- 37:49Speaker 2: drop off this year. He went from you know, back
- 37:52Speaker 2: in the Cincinnati days mid ninety sevens now he's down
- 37:56Speaker 2: in the mid ninety five. So he's also full two
- 37:58Speaker 2: ticks in the last few years, and over just the
- 38:02Speaker 2: last two years, it's about a tack and a half.
- 38:06Speaker 2: His his STIPs up, his X stip up, his X
- 38:09Speaker 2: cras up, like all of them are going in the
- 38:12Speaker 2: wrong direction. And again he's he's not putting the ball
- 38:15Speaker 2: on the ground, like he's just letting me get in
- 38:17Speaker 2: the air, and he gives up homers. So there's it's
- 38:20Speaker 2: just going the wrong way for me. And I think
- 38:24Speaker 2: he you're starting to sleep. We mentioned the strikeouts. I
- 38:27Speaker 2: think that's where it's starting to show its show first.
- 38:30Speaker 2: And I think the wheels are gonna come off real fast.
- 38:32Speaker 2: I don't know if it's next year a year after that,
- 38:34Speaker 2: but when it happens, it's gonna be fast and it's
- 38:37Speaker 2: gonna be bad. So I am fully out of Lulu's castillo.
- 38:41Speaker 2: I don't I don't need any shares of this. You
- 38:45Speaker 2: can take him unless he's like my fifth starter. I
- 38:48Speaker 2: am not touching with a ten foot poll. Yeah, exactly that.
- 38:51Speaker 1: I think when you and I probably get to draft
- 38:53Speaker 1: season and kind of put together projections, I just don't
- 38:57Speaker 1: see how the line up to what his draft value
- 38:59Speaker 1: will be if it's somewhere in the ballpark of where
- 39:01Speaker 1: it was, because I think it will be pretty similar
- 39:04Speaker 1: to maybe what it was this year. Backing up a
- 39:06Speaker 1: little bit, but I think people will see I'm.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Still be like top fifteen is what people are still
- 39:11Speaker 2: treating that way, and it just isn't a top fifteen profile.
- 39:14Speaker 2: It's it is rocky. It is really rocky, I would agree.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Okay, next injury we have is Dodgers starter Gavin Stone
- 39:22Speaker 1: hitting the injured list with shoulder inflammation, which we've kind
- 39:26Speaker 1: of talked about this here and there down the stretch
- 39:29Speaker 1: over the past month or so. But I'm not surprised
- 39:32Speaker 1: by this considering that Gavin Stone has hit a career
- 39:35Speaker 1: high in innings this year with forty and a third innings.
- 39:38Speaker 1: It was great. It was a three fifty three ra
- 39:41Speaker 1: with eleven wins and only five losses.
- 39:44Speaker 2: The strikeouts were a little lacking.
- 39:45Speaker 1: But I mean, I think you would take that considering
- 39:47Speaker 1: the great ra work that you got and the chance
- 39:51Speaker 1: at all those wins considering the Stone pitch for the
- 39:53Speaker 1: Dodgers this entire year. So is this We've talked about
- 39:58Speaker 1: this a little bit going into next year, but are
- 40:01Speaker 1: you even I feel like I'm going to be very,
- 40:03Speaker 1: very cognizant of this next year. Is that so many
- 40:06Speaker 1: of these young pitchers and even veteran ish ones like
- 40:09Speaker 1: Tyler glassnow just can not handle one hundred and fifty
- 40:13Speaker 1: innings even because they've never even come close to it.
- 40:16Speaker 1: So like it's gonna be I think a huge draft
- 40:21Speaker 1: day consideration, especially for people like I mean Paul Skins.
- 40:24Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be right up there when I'm
- 40:26Speaker 1: thinking about this in terms of, like how does the
- 40:29Speaker 1: end of the season work out for Paul's Skins? Like
- 40:32Speaker 1: what is the game plan? And like you can if
- 40:35Speaker 1: you had Stone, maybe you were already starting to think
- 40:37Speaker 1: about that. But it's just another factor we're gonna have
- 40:40Speaker 1: to weigh both at the draft table and during end
- 40:43Speaker 1: season management, because I think it's gonna be something when
- 40:47Speaker 1: I'm going to even pick up players unlike the waiver
- 40:50Speaker 1: wire free agent pool next year, I want to see,
- 40:54Speaker 1: like what their innings load has been over the past
- 40:56Speaker 1: couple of years to see is that dude even going
- 40:59Speaker 1: to be available in August in September. For me, what
- 41:02Speaker 1: are you doing with players like this ilk with Gavin Stone,
- 41:07Speaker 1: where you know they're young. Obviously COVID and the pandemic
- 41:10Speaker 1: played a role, but the innings just aren't built up
- 41:13Speaker 1: to get an entire season out of these players.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I you know, unless you have the schemes type
- 41:20Speaker 2: of repertoire, like at some point you have to take
- 41:23Speaker 2: a jump, you have to take a risk, something like that,
- 41:24Speaker 2: and if there's no other warning signs, I'm willing to
- 41:27Speaker 2: take a little bit that gamble. But as soon as
- 41:29Speaker 2: the warning signs start to show up and they're not
- 41:32Speaker 2: like the the clear injuries like we talk about like
- 41:36Speaker 2: a Shane McClanahan for example, he got hurt and he
- 41:39Speaker 2: got clearly hurt and he's gonna be working back that,
- 41:42Speaker 2: I'm a little bit more willing to like see how
- 41:44Speaker 2: it plays and go from there. But a guy that's
- 41:46Speaker 2: gone deep into games and had some good innings, Stone's
- 41:50Speaker 2: the kind of guy that hasn't had a lot of innings.
- 41:52Speaker 2: It seems to kind of have a cap and the
- 41:55Speaker 2: at the end of the day, the minor league stuff
- 41:57Speaker 2: just hasn't translated the majors. The numbers look a lot
- 41:59Speaker 2: better than these pen and I think that's part of
- 42:02Speaker 2: the challenge here. Is he said you mentioned that the
- 42:04Speaker 2: striccounts aren't work. It needs to be. The wins are
- 42:06Speaker 2: kind of carrying him because he is playing for the Dodgers.
- 42:08Speaker 2: His stuff is he's kind of like a really like
- 42:11Speaker 2: a one trick pony. He's got a crazy good slider
- 42:13Speaker 2: and that's it. And so I think he's kind of
- 42:17Speaker 2: made his way through based on that and team's not
- 42:20Speaker 2: quite adjusting yet. But I don't know that he's much
- 42:24Speaker 2: more than an average pitcher at this point in his career.
- 42:28Speaker 2: And if he's not gonna get the innings built up,
- 42:30Speaker 2: and if you're gonna be for the Dodgers, they they're
- 42:32Speaker 2: looking for, you know, really truly guys that are gonna
- 42:35Speaker 2: be in there. And I don't know about you, but
- 42:38Speaker 2: is the are the Dodgers starting to struggle keeping pictures healthy?
- 42:42Speaker 2: It's it's getting a little dicey. And I'm not talking
- 42:44Speaker 2: about the Clayton Kershows of the world here, right, But
- 42:47Speaker 2: Bueler hasn't been able to trotally look back. Yeah, Moto's
- 42:50Speaker 2: had issues. I'm gonna call James packstownt for retiring even
- 42:54Speaker 2: though he's before trying to do with Red Sox, but
- 42:57Speaker 2: they gave that a shot. Like it just seems like
- 43:00Speaker 2: nobody's staying healthy in that rotation nowadays.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:04Speaker 2: I talked about this a little bit.
- 43:06Speaker 1: I was on the roto Wire podcast on Saturday, and
- 43:09Speaker 1: so I'm sure there's like some Cicco out there that
- 43:13Speaker 1: has heard me talk on there and is listening to
- 43:15Speaker 1: me here that I have to I think, I hope
- 43:18Speaker 1: maybe I have one fan out there that's like that.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Maybe maybe not. I'm not sure Stock is called a stalker.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Yes, So we talked about this a little bit, but
- 43:28Speaker 1: I think what it actually is is the Dodgers hone
- 43:32Speaker 1: in on and try to acquire these types of pictures
- 43:35Speaker 1: that have flaws and either their mechanics or just their
- 43:40Speaker 1: actual like biometric you know, their bodies and in terms
- 43:44Speaker 1: of their their physicals. That I think we've seen this
- 43:47Speaker 1: a little bit in terms of looking at the Jack
- 43:50Speaker 1: Flaherty trade when the Yankees were not willing to accept
- 43:54Speaker 1: the risk that came with whatever they saw in that
- 43:57Speaker 1: medical But the Dodgers were the Dodgers obviously acquired Tyler
- 44:01Speaker 1: Glass now, and I think a lot of it comes
- 44:03Speaker 1: over from Andrew Friedman developed this when he was with
- 44:07Speaker 1: the Rays, and the Rays do this, I think too.
- 44:08Speaker 1: It's not that they're breaking the pictures. I think it's
- 44:12Speaker 1: actually that they're choosing pitchers that do break because one,
- 44:17Speaker 1: obviously they're cheaper, which sucks. Like it's a very like
- 44:22Speaker 1: dollars and cents approach to team building and just kind
- 44:26Speaker 1: of like applying, you know, executive business level courses to
- 44:31Speaker 1: team building. But I think that's one factor to it,
- 44:34Speaker 1: as well as like whatever Andrew Friedman has developed between
- 44:38Speaker 1: his time in Tampa and LA and the coaches and
- 44:42Speaker 1: staff that he has underneath them, he has confidence in
- 44:45Speaker 1: being able to develop pitching out of kind of balls
- 44:48Speaker 1: of clay and being able to form people and find
- 44:52Speaker 1: it wherever he can, using especially the strategy that if
- 44:56Speaker 1: you've got if you're chasing players who might have physical
- 45:00Speaker 1: or medical flaws but can still throw really well while
- 45:03Speaker 1: they're pitching, they'll be really good. And so I think
- 45:06Speaker 1: that's a lot of what the strategy actually is in
- 45:10Speaker 1: intintal talent there with the Dodgers that I don't think
- 45:12Speaker 1: they're necessarily breaking these players, but they're kind of trying
- 45:17Speaker 1: to acquire these players actively.
- 45:20Speaker 2: That's really is an interesting take, and it does feel
- 45:23Speaker 2: like you might be onto something as far as they're
- 45:26Speaker 2: just willing to take more that risk. And I also
- 45:28Speaker 2: wonder if they think that they're better at it than
- 45:30Speaker 2: they are. Right, you compare them to the Rays and
- 45:33Speaker 2: the Race tend to take these guys in and make
- 45:35Speaker 2: some very clear tweaks. It's like when the Rays take
- 45:37Speaker 2: a guy in, it's not like, well, he just keeps pitching,
- 45:40Speaker 2: which I feel like the Dodgers to injury just kind
- 45:42Speaker 2: of lets you keep doing with minor tweaks. The Rays
- 45:44Speaker 2: basically like stop it, knock it off, stop throwing that pitch,
- 45:47Speaker 2: stop throwing it there, like they make true changes where
- 45:51Speaker 2: I don't feel like the Dodgers do that to the
- 45:53Speaker 2: same degree. But and then the Rays will also cut
- 45:55Speaker 2: bait a little faster if they see it's not working
- 45:58Speaker 2: as well. So that's interesting. Yeah, Stone, he's he's right
- 46:02Speaker 2: in that mix. I'm probably avoiding him next year. It's
- 46:06Speaker 2: kind of like Bobby Miller all over, and I like
- 46:08Speaker 2: Bobby Miller a heck of a lot more than I
- 46:09Speaker 2: like Evan Stone, So I'll probably keep drinking that koolid
- 46:13Speaker 2: for another year or two. But Stone is one that
- 46:16Speaker 2: I'm just not gonna be shocked if we if we
- 46:18Speaker 2: don't talk about him again. Yeah, I think that all
- 46:21Speaker 2: makes sense.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Okay, next injury we have is third basement from the
- 46:24Speaker 1: Philadelphia Phillies or actually first baseman.
- 46:27Speaker 2: I guess both.
- 46:28Speaker 1: I mean he's been playing more third base, but we'll
- 46:31Speaker 1: play first. I guess that was more last year. Take
- 46:34Speaker 1: that back. It's third baseman Alec Bohm from the Philadelphia Phillies.
- 46:37Speaker 1: He's going on the al with a handstreen and he
- 46:42Speaker 1: was an All Star this year. But wow, this is
- 46:46Speaker 1: this is one of those guys where I don't pay
- 46:48Speaker 1: attention too much to like first half second half splits,
- 46:51Speaker 1: to like especially tell me something in terms of like
- 46:55Speaker 1: trying to determine if I should acquire a player for
- 46:58Speaker 1: one half or the other. But what all the use
- 47:00Speaker 1: of more so for is to just see like how
- 47:04Speaker 1: the shape of a player season looks, and you want
- 47:07Speaker 1: to talk about players we won't be acquiring. Alec Boom
- 47:10Speaker 1: will be on that list for me next year because
- 47:12Speaker 1: you can just see it, right, in the shape of
- 47:13Speaker 1: this season, that that first half were the most brilliant
- 47:17Speaker 1: three months of his career, where he hit two ninety
- 47:20Speaker 1: five with eleven homers, forty two runs, seventy RBI over
- 47:24Speaker 1: ninety four games. Second half nineteen RBIs and two homers
- 47:30Speaker 1: with a two seventy eight average, which I think will
- 47:32Speaker 1: always be there in Boem's profile because he's a good
- 47:35Speaker 1: contact hitter. But he's come back to what I think
- 47:39Speaker 1: we're used.
- 47:39Speaker 2: To with Bom.
- 47:40Speaker 1: You know, he last year was a twenty home run hitter. Honestly,
- 47:46Speaker 1: that RBI total is even kind of high you're looking.
- 47:48Speaker 1: I think more like twenty twenty two is who I
- 47:51Speaker 1: think Bom is two eighty three fifteen three ninety eight
- 47:54Speaker 1: slash line, thirteen homers, seventy nine runs, seventy two ribs,
- 47:58Speaker 1: ninety nine WRC plus. Am I off base or am
- 48:01Speaker 1: I just hating on out bomb here too much?
- 48:04Speaker 2: No? I think you're You're probably right on there, because
- 48:07Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, you kind of you tweak the stats
- 48:09Speaker 2: a little the second half there, He's played like thirty
- 48:11Speaker 2: seven games against like ninety some so yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 48:17Speaker 2: but it's still it doesn't extrapolate. I think you're right,
- 48:20Speaker 2: like Boem's profile, even when he was drafted, he was
- 48:23Speaker 2: not a massive power hitter. He was not a speed guy.
- 48:26Speaker 2: He was this big body with decent glove, and he
- 48:30Speaker 2: hit for average and he hit for just enough power.
- 48:33Speaker 2: Like he was like a very high floor, lower ceiling prospect.
- 48:38Speaker 2: And to your point, in twenty three, that's what he did.
- 48:42Speaker 2: Twenty two he was pretty much that with a little
- 48:44Speaker 2: less power, And if you look at this total year,
- 48:48Speaker 2: that's what he's gonna do again. And so I yeah,
- 48:51Speaker 2: it might be hot cold here and there, Like at
- 48:52Speaker 2: the end of the day, he's probably a fifteen to
- 48:54Speaker 2: twenty homer guy that can hit to ninety. There's nothing
- 48:58Speaker 2: wrong with that. The problem is, to your point, like
- 49:01Speaker 2: when especially with the long baseball season, people tend to
- 49:05Speaker 2: forget what happens is the second half. They look at
- 49:07Speaker 2: what happened the first half when they're really engaged and
- 49:09Speaker 2: then their roto team fell apart. So I think mom's
- 49:12Speaker 2: gonna have a little and he's playing on a great team.
- 49:14Speaker 2: I think he's gonna have a little helium. The bigger
- 49:16Speaker 2: concern for me is hand strain. That is could like
- 49:21Speaker 2: it's not a handmate type issue. Don't get me wrong,
- 49:24Speaker 2: like that's way worse, but that is so critical, Like
- 49:28Speaker 2: I'm thinking of the rest of the season. I don't.
- 49:29Speaker 2: I'm not thinking a lingering thing from it in next year.
- 49:31Speaker 2: But you need to have such a feel and if
- 49:35Speaker 2: you have a handstrain, every single time you hit that
- 49:37Speaker 2: ball all it's painful and you have to believe that
- 49:41Speaker 2: takes a little bit out of the swing. So I
- 49:44Speaker 2: know the reports are he might be out for another
- 49:46Speaker 2: week or so. Like I died, I'm really concerned that
- 49:48Speaker 2: he's not gonna be back until the playoffs, like they're
- 49:51Speaker 2: gonna wait to try to get him as healthy as possible,
- 49:54Speaker 2: and even then it's gonna be a little bit of questionable.
- 49:56Speaker 2: So I'm wondering if we've seen the rest of the
- 49:59Speaker 2: end of Alec Bohm for the rest of the regular
- 50:01Speaker 2: season here.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think it's very possible, especially given that
- 50:06Speaker 1: they really do have the depth to be able to
- 50:09Speaker 1: make it through this year compared to where they've been
- 50:11Speaker 1: in previous years. So I wouldn't be surprised. But if anything,
- 50:16Speaker 1: maybe he pops up like right at the tay l
- 50:18Speaker 1: end of the season to be able to come back
- 50:20Speaker 1: for the playoffs. Okay, next injury we have actually will
- 50:25Speaker 1: end this player season as he's been placed on the
- 50:27Speaker 1: sixty day IL, which is I think more of just
- 50:30Speaker 1: a forty man roster move because I think if it
- 50:33Speaker 1: was just his normal injury, that is Joe Adele with
- 50:37Speaker 1: this strained oblique from the Angels, I think it was
- 50:40Speaker 1: just the normal injury, he probably would have been on
- 50:42Speaker 1: like the fifteen day IL and out for the typical
- 50:46Speaker 1: three to four weeks with an oblique strain. But given
- 50:49Speaker 1: as the end of the season, the Angels wanted that
- 50:51Speaker 1: forty man roster spot to be able to play with
- 50:54Speaker 1: and put Adele on the sixty day IL. But that
- 50:57Speaker 1: wraps up what's gonna be a twenty fifteen season from
- 51:01Speaker 1: Adele with a two oh seven two eighty four h
- 51:05Speaker 1: two slash line that's an eighty nine WRC plus. But
- 51:10Speaker 1: I've been really encouraged he's cut the strikeouts and increase
- 51:13Speaker 1: the walk rate, like he's been learning how to command
- 51:17Speaker 1: the zone on the fly, and it's really each month
- 51:20Speaker 1: like he's been getting better and better and better. He's
- 51:23Speaker 1: only twenty five. You also don't need to go too
- 51:26Speaker 1: far on ras ball to dig through those tags and
- 51:29Speaker 1: see how often I write about Joe Adele and dote
- 51:33Speaker 1: on him. So I want you to crush my dreams
- 51:37Speaker 1: and tamper this down a bit. What are you doing
- 51:39Speaker 1: with Joe Adell going into next year?
- 51:41Speaker 2: I'm avoiding him like the plague. You know it's in it.
- 51:48Speaker 2: You're not wrong, Like you're not wrong that he's he's
- 51:50Speaker 2: shown growth, he's done that, but it's it's one of
- 51:54Speaker 2: those fully ones for me twice, Like we're like on
- 51:56Speaker 2: five times with Joadell now, and he is such a
- 52:00Speaker 2: streaky hitter that it's really hard to manage. And I
- 52:03Speaker 2: look at some of the results that he's had this year,
- 52:06Speaker 2: like there is growth, don't get me wrong, but you know,
- 52:10Speaker 2: he ended up with a twenty fifteen season, which is
- 52:13Speaker 2: like really exciting, but you know, the strikeouts were just
- 52:17Speaker 2: under thirty percent, He stole fifteen bases, he got caught
- 52:20Speaker 2: ten times. He was not effective at all. You know,
- 52:25Speaker 2: his hard hit rates are pretty pretty dismal. Uh. You know,
- 52:30Speaker 2: it depends on what metric you want to go go
- 52:33Speaker 2: buy fanagrafts on a thirty one percent UH stackcast has
- 52:36Speaker 2: about forty four percent, big big ranges there, but he's
- 52:41Speaker 2: like a low two hundred hitter. He's gonna if he
- 52:43Speaker 2: keeps getting caught in the bases, he's not gonna steal anymore.
- 52:47Speaker 2: And you're gonna end up with this guy with a
- 52:49Speaker 2: ton athleticism. Looks like he should be better it is,
- 52:51Speaker 2: and the numbers just keep dragging, and then he teases
- 52:54Speaker 2: you enough to keep starting him. That's so, that's my
- 52:57Speaker 2: problem with Joe Adell. I just it's a train I've
- 53:00Speaker 2: ridden too many times and I am off Tarrett my ticket.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Send me home. No more Joe Adell at this point,
- 53:07Speaker 2: so you can have them feel free. I'm not bidden
- 53:10Speaker 2: you up.
- 53:11Speaker 1: Next year, I will take him. I don't think it's
- 53:15Speaker 1: been too encouraging this year, and I do. I mean,
- 53:18Speaker 1: I just like that he's playing all the time, like
- 53:20Speaker 1: it's really huge, and like the two hundred batting average
- 53:23Speaker 1: doesn't kill you as much as you would think because
- 53:26Speaker 1: of the low batting average in today's day and age.
- 53:29Speaker 1: That especially. I don't know what it is with that
- 53:34Speaker 1: park in Anaheim, but if you remember, like when we
- 53:37Speaker 1: were looking at the stat cast metrics earlier in the year,
- 53:40Speaker 1: it was like better than cores. It was like crazy great.
- 53:44Speaker 1: I think there is something with just the way it
- 53:47Speaker 1: plays heat wise at the beginning of the season that like,
- 53:50Speaker 1: it's a great time I think to buy in on Angels,
- 53:53Speaker 1: to like use them out the gate because I think
- 53:56Speaker 1: there it And it's been a couple of years now
- 53:58Speaker 1: where I've noticed this where Angels plays real well and
- 54:01Speaker 1: then dips a little bit more towards the end of
- 54:03Speaker 1: the season. I do think that there is a weather
- 54:05Speaker 1: pattern in southern California that causes a lot of that.
- 54:08Speaker 1: But because of that, I will use that to paper
- 54:13Speaker 1: over any of the bad things you just said about
- 54:15Speaker 1: Jo Adell in my mind. So I am deleting that
- 54:17Speaker 1: all out right now.
- 54:18Speaker 2: I'm just I got to give you one more comp
- 54:21Speaker 2: Who would you take Joe Adell who hit I just
- 54:26Speaker 2: lost my stat cafeh he hit two oh seven with
- 54:31Speaker 2: fifty four runs, twenty homers, and fifteen steals. Or do
- 54:35Speaker 2: you take player B who hits two thirty two with
- 54:41Speaker 2: fifty three runs, twenty four homers, and two steals one
- 54:44Speaker 2: hundred and thirty one games for a WRC plus of
- 54:48Speaker 2: ninety nine. And how big of a difference is there?
- 54:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the steals. The steals is pretty big, like
- 54:58Speaker 1: when you're when you're get thirteen more steals with Adele.
- 55:02Speaker 1: I mean, obviously most of the time you're going to
- 55:04Speaker 1: be be picking player B but certainly if you were
- 55:06Speaker 1: trying to chase steals, I think that's what Adele was
- 55:09Speaker 1: good for. Tube.
- 55:10Speaker 2: But let me see if I can guess who player
- 55:12Speaker 2: two is. Give me league, Give me league. At least
- 55:17Speaker 2: American American League one hundred and thirty one games in
- 55:20Speaker 2: the season, so he's been a starter all all all year.
- 55:25Speaker 2: I consider him a veteran.
- 55:29Speaker 1: I don't know, like Ben and Tendy maybe or something
- 55:33Speaker 1: like that.
- 55:33Speaker 2: That's not a bad guess we're talking are our buddy
- 55:36Speaker 2: Paul de Young here?
- 55:38Speaker 1: Yeah? Very good?
- 55:39Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 55:39Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 55:39Speaker 2: So I'm just saying Paul de Young and Joe Adell
- 55:42Speaker 2: are not too different outside of a guy that tries
- 55:45Speaker 2: to steal and gets caught all the time. And I
- 55:48Speaker 2: don't think anybody's claimoring to go pick up PAULA Young.
- 55:51Speaker 2: I mean I have at points, so okay, okay, point
- 55:55Speaker 2: for point, maybe that might be. I think we might
- 55:58Speaker 2: have a different intervention and we need to have a discussions.
- 56:01Speaker 1: On fantastic Okay, Well, let's get into the schedule release
- 56:09Speaker 1: for baseball cards because we've got a few additions that
- 56:12Speaker 1: came up this week, and then after we get through
- 56:14Speaker 1: this schedule updates, we'll get into Bowman Chrome. But we
- 56:18Speaker 1: had Tops Chrome Sapphire come out yesterday, which honestly I
- 56:23Speaker 1: didn't see it drop, but it supposedly did according to
- 56:26Speaker 1: Beckett dot com, and that's where I get that calendar from.
- 56:31Speaker 1: But we will see as those things surface. I think
- 56:34Speaker 1: they probably just more so like shipped yesterday on September tenth. Obviously,
- 56:40Speaker 1: we have today on the eleventh Bowmen Chrome Pinini prisms
- 56:44Speaker 1: slated for October second. They've also added on October second
- 56:48Speaker 1: the Bowman Chrome makeup boxes. So today is we're speaking,
- 56:51Speaker 1: and we'll go into this a little bit when we do.
- 56:53Speaker 1: The overview of the checklist is that it's only the
- 56:56Speaker 1: hobby products that have come out for Bowman Chrome today
- 56:59Speaker 1: on September eleventh. The Bowman Chrome megaboxes, which are more
- 57:03Speaker 1: of a retail product, will be hitting shelves there on
- 57:06Speaker 1: October second, and on October fourth, we've got twenty twenty
- 57:10Speaker 1: four or five star coming back from Tops. So that
- 57:14Speaker 1: is the upcoming schedule. Like I said, We're going to
- 57:16Speaker 1: take a quick break right now, but we will be
- 57:18Speaker 1: back with that Bowman Chrome overview, So stick around, all right,
- 57:39Speaker 1: Welcome back, everybody. We are going to get into the
- 57:42Speaker 1: overview of twenty twenty four Bowman Chrome, which is releasing
- 57:46Speaker 1: today as we're speaking, on Wednesday, September eleventh, and.
- 57:51Speaker 2: Once again, this is going to be one of.
- 57:54Speaker 1: The higher end products I think that we discuss, which
- 57:57Speaker 1: is kind of funny considering it never would say never,
- 58:02Speaker 1: but it typically hasn't been until I think it really
- 58:05Speaker 1: took off during the pandemic and the chase for especially
- 58:08Speaker 1: first from Prospects and first autos, that has just really skyrocketed,
- 58:14Speaker 1: and that is what really moves the market here, I think,
- 58:18Speaker 1: especially if you want to get into some of our
- 58:20Speaker 1: thoughts from just where the overall industry and card collecting
- 58:26Speaker 1: is going. I think our pot last year on twenty
- 58:29Speaker 1: twenty three Bowmen Chrome was really great because it was
- 58:32Speaker 1: really I think a turning point in terms of where
- 58:35Speaker 1: this has all gone over the past couple of years,
- 58:37Speaker 1: especially with chrome cards and tops Chrome in some of
- 58:42Speaker 1: our favorite sets historically over the years, where it's just
- 58:44Speaker 1: been pushed to a very significant price point so as
- 58:49Speaker 1: we're talking here, the only choices you have to get
- 58:53Speaker 1: twenty twenty four Bowmen Chrome are via a hobby box
- 58:56Speaker 1: which will come with It's actually like it's called like
- 59:01Speaker 1: a Maxter box. It's kind of got like two miniboxes
- 59:03Speaker 1: within it, and one box. Each box will have an
- 59:07Speaker 1: autograph in it, so you're getting two autographs in the
- 59:11Speaker 1: entire box. But that'll run you two hundred and eighty
- 59:14Speaker 1: ish dollars is with looking at it retailed at and
- 59:17Speaker 1: that's what it came through on tops dot com. Your
- 59:19Speaker 1: other choice would be paying what is roughly looking like
- 59:25Speaker 1: a tick over three hundred bucks most places right now,
- 59:27Speaker 1: so like three thirty ish for an HTA Choice box,
- 59:31Speaker 1: which I can't believe this isn't this is even happening
- 59:36Speaker 1: considering just this overall product. And we'll get into the
- 59:40Speaker 1: checklist a little bit. It's not great, but you get
- 59:42Speaker 1: three cards in your three hundred and thirty dollars box.
- 59:45Speaker 1: They are all autographs, but that is like walking into
- 59:49Speaker 1: the casino and putting one hundred bucks on black three times. Essentially,
- 59:53Speaker 1: it is a tough deal. So Brew, I'm assuming you're
- 59:58Speaker 1: not out there ripping any bowman hobbies. But if you are, where.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: Did you get the cash from? Yeah, very good question.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: I am not ripping any Bowman Chrome hobby or choice.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: It's it to your point, it is a it is
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: a very very big gamble product. And I think the
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: challenge with it is this year's checklists I don't think
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: is terribly strong. And the return period on this is
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: such such a long return period that many of these guys,
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: even when they get called up, if they do in
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: a few years, their value is not going to be higher.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: And let me give you the example. There's this pretty
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: good player that came up in a recent Bowman Chrome set,
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: Elie Dela Cruz. And when his came out, he I
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: think he was twenty dollars or so to buy his
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: first Bowman just on the secondary market, which I believe
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: was actually more. And when he got called up in
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: and now when he has been playing like having unbelievable season,
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: Like the hype of Bowman is so strong when it
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: comes out because the prices are so insane that for
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: a say, everyday collector, the only way you're going to
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: get the card of the guy that's like this potential
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: star in the future in five years is to pay
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: out to Wazoo, which is a technical term. Let let
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: me tell you to get the card. So yeah, I
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: think this is a very very make or break product.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong. You can hit something crazy in
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: this and be set for years like sell it and
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: reinvest and by all the bowmen you want. But that
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: it is very much a lottery type product.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Here, Yes, definitely. And I mean, like we said, like
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: it's not the strongest checklist, but it seems like it
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: is because the top end of this checklist is very
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: very strong, I would say in terms of you know,
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: you're looking at rookie cards here of Jackson, Merrill, Eli
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: de la Cruz, Jackson, Curio, Wyatt Langford, Paul Skeens.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: So everything's been lining up.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Paul Skeens is obviously going to be in twenty twenty
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: four tops update. He's been getting RC stamps and all
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: of his cards, which will be I think an interesting
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: discussion when we get into update year updated upmarket, because
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: it's going to be a very crazy product between all
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: those guys that I pretty much just listened right there
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: and Jackson Holiday as well. Haven't even listed Jackson Holiday.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: That it's you know, going to be a very loaded
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: update product, which has been kind of rare for the
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: past couple of years, but they also moved it into
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Bowmen Chrome. On top of it, you are chasing. I
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: would say that even compared to when last year we
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: were talking about Ethan Sallas this time that was the
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: big first to chase in twenty twenty three Bowmen Chrome.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: This year it's Leo Devreese from the San Diego Pots,
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: And honestly, I can see the hype like this is
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: certainly I think a fantastic prospect. He's seventeen, already in
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: low A and seems to be holding his own that
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I think he is going to be something special. But
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: when we're saying that the checklist is is rough, the
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: back end of that auto checklist is rough. Let me say,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: just like these prospects like you and I are pretty
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: connected in in terms of like not only baseball cards,
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: but dynasty and keeper leagues and all sorts of just
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: like super deep baseball knowledge, and this list goes through
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: so many players that I've never heard of. And on
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: top of it too, it's just usually what they do
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: in Bowmen Chrome is because they know they're going to
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: have some of that top end talent, either from the
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: rookie class or the international signing period. That's especially the
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: way that Bowman kind of works, as like when Bowman releases,
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: it's it's actually like a pickup of last year's draft class.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: So that's why Dylan Cruz was in like twenty twenty
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: four Browman. When you get into Bowmen Chrome later in
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: the summer, you're picking up all those international signees from
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: the January signing period in the previous offseason. So that's
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: where Dereese is coming through. And you've also I mean,
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: you've got a major prospect for the Braves in Jose Perdomo,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: but both those guys are also seventeen years old, so
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: you don't know exactly where you're going to go. But
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: that's why the Bowmen Chrome checklist gets a little rough
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: on the back end for the autos, is because you
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: have a bunch of those international signees that you know
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: they're sixteen, seventeen, eighteen years old, that are just at
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: the beginning of their careers and you don't know which
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: way it's going to take. Plus it's just like random
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: other dudes that they've missed over the years in Bowman
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: products that I actually found recently a really great article
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: that I'll post in the show notes and everything else
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: that we've been discussing. You can find checklists and everything
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: in the show notes as well as going to rasball
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: dot com to get pictures of some of these cards
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: that we're talking about, but it's from prospects Live dot com.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: It's a.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: I want to meet whoever wrote this because they seem
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: like just our type of baseball sicko in terms of
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: the detail that this list goes into, in terms of
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: breaking down every prospect that's in the product of Bowman
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: Chrome twenty twenty four, listing out whether or not they
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: have a base card an autocard, and then ranking how
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: good of a prospect they are based on both risk
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: and ceiling and like teering them out. It's very detailed,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: so it's a great guide if you are out there
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: ripping any Bowman Chrome to be able to look through
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: and see where these prospects are at. But you can
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: see in there, it's pretty rough. There aren't too many
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: Tier one guys I was even looking at, like the
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: Cardinals one. The Cardinals one, the guy who is in
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: the auto from twenty twenty four Bowmen Chrome from the
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: Cardinals that has a first in this product is already cut.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: He's not in this system anymore. So I will say
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: that this list is only first, but that's who you're
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: chasing here, Like you want the first, you don't want
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: the second or third year Sebastian Walcott auto. You want
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: the first of these players. So that's what you're looking
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: at here. Do you think I'm off base with any
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: of this or are you seeing the same when you're
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: looking at the checklist in terms of just that star
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: power from the first autographs overall?
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're right that the very top end
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: is exciting, and there's it seems like this is very
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: true with Bowen Chrome or even Draft that the top
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: I'm gonna say three to five are really exciting, really
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: worth it, but I'm going to say like sixty to
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: eighty percent of those are going to like be five
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: dollars autos in two years because it's such high risk,
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: high reward. And then I think the other thing that's
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: just kind of to look through is to your point,
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: like so many of these guys are so so far
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: away that it's it's almost impossible to project, you know,
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: them being there. So I actually had had a fun
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: time looking through to see what's going on with like
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: some of the names that we actually know, guys that
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: are actually almost there, and so I'll give you give
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: you a few for fun. We got Ben Rice and
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: in this this year he's got the base only. We
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: have Emiliano Tedo from from Texas. He has I believe
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: in auto only. Ti Madden isn't there with his first
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: AUTO for this growth. And Brandon Sprote for the Mets,
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: who's starting to rise up the top ten pitching prospects
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: arguably as there as well. So there's a few guys
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: in there that are in the first or first AUTO
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: discussion that have kind of made their way. And like
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: those ones are like the sneaky values to me because
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: they can actually are going to be in the majors
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: or already there with Madden and with Rice, and then
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: I think Sproke's actually not too far far behind. But yeah,
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: at the end of the day, like you go through
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: the bottomist checklist and I, you know, it makes me
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: feel like I don't know anything about baseball because I'm like,
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: who is who is this guy? I'm like, I I
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: haven't heard anything about Let's see, let me just pick
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: a random name here for shin In Lynn for the Reds.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: Maybe I should have heard about them, but I have
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: no idea who that is. And I can't pronounce some
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: of the names as well, like josh Adam Szik for
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: them Brewers and I just butchered that. So it is
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: very much. And you talk about that choice box three
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: autos for three hundred bucks, and if you hit one
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: of the big names like Devrees, then wow, you are through.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: But you were just as likely to have three ten
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: dollars cards coming out of that and really be suffering
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: for unless you hit inserts and things like that, because
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: there are some fun inserts this time around and some
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: other fun legends that you can be chasing as well. Yeah.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: Absolutely, And I mean which is I'm over the retro Fractors.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: It's only been like three or four products that they've
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: been in, but I think I'm done with them just because.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: Like I don't get them.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: Maybe that's what it is. And they are back again
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: this time. So the two Retrofractors. They've been doing this
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: now since Bowman Chrome last year, right that I think
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: about a year now, yep, Yeah, Bowman Chrome last year,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: then Bowman Draft then Bowman Regular this year and now
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: Bowman Chrome. So in the past, you know we've had
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: Babe Ruth, Roberto Clemente, Josh Gibson, Bob Gibson was one
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: of them, Pete Rose, and one more Ted Williams I
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: think is maybe who Emerson. And so this year they
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: are lou Gerig and Sandy Kofax. So the Sandy Kofax
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: ones there are autos, and so that's cool. Obviously the
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: lou Girig ones aren't. And some of those other ones
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: haven't been from the past either. So for the Luke
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: gereg ones, you're just looking for the different parallels of
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: those Luke garrig quote unquote Bowman first. But this is
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: also where I think I have the issue with these
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: retro factors, is it starts to drying up pretty fast,
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: Like once you went through those first kind of like
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: eight ish guys, it's you start running into issues of
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: like it's cool that there's a lou garret card, but
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: who's really out there like collecting lou garrit cards modern
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: Luke Garett cards that hard.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: There is a bounty technically the super Fractor, the one
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: of one super Fractor half a million, which.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: I guess, I guess, like if that's your thing, but
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: it doesn't make any sense because at this point too,
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: it's really gonna start falling off the cliff in terms
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: of what they're going to be doing with these retrofractors,
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: because the further back you get at this point, like
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: we're one hundred years removed from the beginning of Luke
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: Greg's career. That sure they are all time greats, but
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: like who truly has much of a connection to them
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: and the game that they played at this point in time,
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: because it's been a long time since Luke Gregg's been
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: in the league.
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: It has been I mean, I just feel like we'll
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: be like twenty twenty five, twenty six Bowm and Chrome
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: were like who wants the retrofractor of Mini Minoso or
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: Gil Hodges, Like it's gonna be like a very you know,
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: very specific player that's smaller following It is fun to
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: see the auto with Cofax this year, and the one
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: thing I love about it more than anything is it
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: gives us an insight into the print run of the
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: product because of the odd we actually have the odds
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: of the super fracture UH for Pillfax on the auto
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: there and since it's a one of one card, it's
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: a it's a direct uh link to your your your
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: print runs because it's only in Hobby. So I'm gonna
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: quizzy down unless you've already looked it up. How many
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: Hobby packs? Uh? Because you remember if we're going through
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: packs here on the odds, how many Hobby packs are
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: there in the product this year?
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Okay, I did see the total print run per card,
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: so I have to kind of like do the math
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: back because I didn't see packs, And.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: Will you do the math? Will remind everybody this is
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: a hundred card checklist for the for for your I
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: call your veterans, your non prospects, and one hundred card
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: checklists for your prospects. You got two hundred cards total
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: that you would be chasing per player in the so well,
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: I gave you time to do math. I don't know
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: if you get your calculator out, but how many packs
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: are in Hobby?
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: So let's see, all right, you're looking at like two
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: and a half million.
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: First of all, let's go back to school. We'll work
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: on that map. And I'm actually gonna be you credit
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: here because I think you're combining the Yeah, the HDA
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: in the hobby so I know where your math went
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: wrong there, But there is one point sixty seven million
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: Hobby packs created here to the point I think that
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: there is roughly two hundred thousand, two and twenty five
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: thousand of the HTA packs as well, which you're going
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: to throw things off to degrees, so quite a few
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: things out there. So if you're chasing the superfractor there,
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: you're looking for that bounty, you're going to still lose
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: mathematically there.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean absolutely, that's that is crazy. But the
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: other sort of like gimmick that I would say that
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: they've brought back now is that the new tradition is
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: on the big Bowman chrome first on the one of
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: one fifty blue refractors, to say that it's their first
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: like Bowman, so Leo Deriese did this. A bunch of
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: the other prospects have also done this, like I said,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Jose Perdomo has done this. So what they're doing on
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: that one of one fifty from the blue stack, which
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: I mean that must be like the first stack that
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: comes out when they're always signing, which is again we
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: got into this a little bit last week. I think
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: where we were talking about like it'd be great to
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: see a little bit behind the scenes of like how
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: some of this thing, this stuff happens in terms of
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: like how the players get the cards and how they
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: sign them and things like that. But they do apparently
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: sign the blue stack first or have been instructed to
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: as from the Bowman group. So the one of one
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: point fifties blue Refractor parallels for some of those big
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: prospects will on them say my first signed.
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: Bowman, So that is even like another.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: Special level of obviously you'll have the super Fractor, but
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: you've got that first signed Bowman as well for each
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: of those players. Yeah.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: I think it's a nice little gimmick that they put
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: in there, but you have to question, like did they
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: come up with this on their own or should we
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: get all owe all the credit to Beny Montgomery, who
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: a few years ago, you know, took the card collecting
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: world by storm by just signing random things on his
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: first autos and essentially creating his own chase cards, which
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: I actually prefer a lot more than the like the
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: true like oh, this is my first Bowman, like you know,
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: like hey, if I'm signed those, I'm signed like my first, second, third,
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: and fourth like like I'm just I'm going down the
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: way a little bit just to mess with tops. But
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: it is, it is neat. It's a nice little like
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: you know, Easter egg per se with within the product.
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: But I do want to call out a parallel to
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: you and get your thoughts on it. And I don't
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: know if you've looked at it too closely, but you know,
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: earlier this year, I think it was the first introduction
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: in Bowman where they introduced color run variations. Color run
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: variations are number twenty four. It's like one in seven
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: thousand ish packs something like that. So it's supposed to
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: be a pretty unique kind of cool card. I don't
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: know if you've taken a look at this one. So
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: the ones that came out in Bowmen, they were cool.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: They were they were I mean, they went to the
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: color run. It was kind of like a tied I
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: kind of blast kind of card. It was really cool.
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: The ones that I've seen so far out of Bowman Chrome,
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: there's only two on eBay, and that's where I'm getting
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: my really in depth information here because there's just so
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: little out there on these. There's a Jackson Merrill and
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: there's a Colton Kowser. They look like refractors to me,
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: base Silver's base refractor, whatever you want to call it.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: They look like nothing except a refractor with a little
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: extra shine. And so I'm curious if you get a
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: chance to look at one of these. It's purely a
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: numbered game. It's purely like it's not an exciting card
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: because it looks literally like something they printed for years
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: and years and they just put a number out of
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: twenty four on it, Like did they phone this one in?
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: Did they mess up? Like what's going on with these things?
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: That is?
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: I was wondering that too, because it's labeled that I'm
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: looking at an eBay too. So they had this in
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: chrome twenty three last year, if you recall that, like
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: cause I can see right now like a Gorman Rookie
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: card in this, and we talked about it a little
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: last year with Jordan Walker rookie cards and stuff, So
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: I think that's when they first introduced it. But there
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: was a true variation to it. Like you said, it
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: was like a Ti die neat sunburst color match that
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: really popped and it looks great. But if I was like,
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: there's no way, I think that's just the regular super
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: short print, but it's got the of twenty four stamp
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: on the front of it, so I think it is
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: the color run and yeah, it I think it's just
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: the super short print image variation with a twenty four
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: stamp on it.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: Is that all it is? Yeah, that's what I think.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: So like, because you're right, it was in twenty twenty
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: three and bohea chrome. I actually went back and I'm
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: looking at some of them and they are really really
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: cool cards, right, They are awesome cards, and I kind
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: of get the allure. And they were out of twenty
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: three last year. They're out of twenty four this year,
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: so you know, that's another really neat aspect of it,
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: but it's there. They're nothing special. They are just not
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: exciting cards, and I think that's gonna be kind of
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: a downfall of they like they missed an opportunity with these, unless,
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: like I said, you get them in person and it's
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: something that you don't you can't really make come true
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: with a photo. But you know, with the numbers of
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: people are putting on the Colton Cowsers out there for
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: seven hundred and fifty dollars because these were hot cards
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: last year, there's still four or five hundred dollars cards,
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: like for the big names. You know, you mentioned the
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: Gorman out there. I was looking to spot fifty seventy
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: five dollars and guy's been sent back to the minors,
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: so like they were highly collectible cards. But man, they
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: missed the boat this year.
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: Yes, I would tend to agree if there's no color
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: to that, like with any kind of what's the point Like,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: it's just a super short print image variation with an
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: of twenty four stamped on it. So that is that. Yeah,
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: we'll see if anything else comes out there. In terms
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: of other inserts, We've obviously got the whole bad of
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: other inserts that are pretty standard here with Bowman Chrome,
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: So you've got your standard fall Stars checklist along with
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: your spotlights are back again, so just a new set
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: of spotlights, which it does seem like Bowman's probably not
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: going to get rid of spotlights anytime soon. That the
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: new hit, Yeah, downtown Slash home Field advantage card that's
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: going to be coming out every year. Gladiators of the
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: Diamond is back.
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: International impact. We have the.
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: Actually I was gonna say, I don't think that they
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: did the top one hundred prospects in this set, But
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: what we're looking at is also nineteen ninety nine Bowman
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: Chrome twenty fifth Anniversary of Throwbacks, which I love from
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: our boy Rich Hill's draft year. I don't think he
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: was actually in that nineteen nine nine set, But I
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: don't know what it is about Like the ninety nine set,
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: it's terrible, like the design, but I love it so
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: in terms of just like this is what the CC
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: Sabbathiorecki card is.
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: It's just like.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: I don't know what it is about the ninety nine
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: Bowmen Chrome that like every time I see it it
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: just brings back warm fuzzies. Maybe it's just because of
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: like that period of card collecting during our youth that
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: like it kind of hit that right gap in terms
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: of just like I was old enough to really remember
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: the design able to like afford a few packs of
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: Bowman Chrome nineteen ninety nine, Like it was one of
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: those first like moments in my life where I was
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: like finally saving up enough money to be able to
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: spend money on cooler packs like this, and I would
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: buy like a little bit of finance and a little
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: bit of chrome here and there. And so I'm actually
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: kind of excited for these inserts for the twenty fifth
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: anniversary of ninety nine Bowmen Chrome. Along with they have
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: the international refractors that go with them too, that are
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: numbered of one hundred that will have the flag in
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: the background, and so that I think is a pretty
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: standard Bowman Chrome insert set. That's pretty cool. What do
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: you think about the ninety nine Bowman Chrome set and
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: do you have similar warm fuzzy feelings about it?
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: I absolutely do. I'm glad you mentioned the international piece
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: because I didn't see that before before we started talking
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: about that, And that's one of the things that I've
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: kind of missed about the cars, Like I thought that
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: was actually such a cool, you know twist on the cars.
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: Is that international variation to the cars. Like some people
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: loved them, some people didn't collect them at all. It
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: seemed like some years were really hot, others they weren't.
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: But there is and I can't explain it. I think
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: you were able to either like what there's something about
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: that design from nineteen ninety nine that is just such
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: a neat design they but you know, it comes out today,
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: I'd probably like this thing's terrible, Like there's some nostalgia
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: to it and it is. It's kind of like Bowman
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: tried like to jump ahead fifteen years and what they
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: were doing, and it kind of worked. And so I
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: think that this that would be a really kind of
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: cool set to maybe go collect all of them. It
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: just it does hit hit differently. Prices are gonna be
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: a little insane on those to start with. I just
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: saw that the first Paul Skeins Rookie sold for fifty
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: five dollars in that.
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: Insert.
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: Yep, so I think things are going a little pricey
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: to begin with, so let the let the market calm down.
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: It looks like the second one actually went for thirty five,
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: so we're already on the cooling uh curve here, But
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: it's it's something that is a really really cool looking card.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. Any other inserts there that you're really
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: looking forward.
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: To, Yeah, I think I think you hit on the
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: main ones. I think there is also kind of the
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: stained glass which is really kind of a harder to
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: find insert as well that it's fun there. And then
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: the one I have to call out is and this
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: isn't my collecting, but I know there's a lot of
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: crossover collectors for the garbage pail kids and so that's
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: a very unique checklist for folks there. Garbage Frail Kids
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: is a completely non sport collectible a lot of folks
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: have adored for many years, and I don't know all
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: the history of garbage Frail Kids, but they've done a
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: great job. It's a twenty three card checklist with out
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: of five reprofractors, out of one on one superfractors. They
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: don't say how many of these there are, and so
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: I'm going to guess they're a little harder to find.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: But I think it's going to be a pretty cool
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: checklist because of the crossover with other types of collectors,
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: and so if you if you are a kind of
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: a multi sport or just I would say a very
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: eclectic card collector versus a very specific baseball card collector,
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: I think these are going to have a lot of desirability.
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: And the checklist itself is very very strong. There is
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: not a single name in here. I'm trying to pick
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: out who's like the weakest name, Maybe Justin Crawford for
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: the Phillies, maybe Pca for the Cubs. Like it. It's
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: a pretty gush darn loaded checklist as far as names,
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: and if you haven't had a chance to look at
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: the cards. They are, you know, pretty pretty cool cards
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: for Bowman. So I don't know what are your thoughts,
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: is garbage Trail Kids? Were you a garbage trail kids
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: collector growing up? Is this a thing for you? I wasn't.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: And they have done like some sort of crossovers like
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: this in the past, but tops where last year, I
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: know that they had a set of these, but honestly
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: they were they were just okay, they weren't quite as
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: like entertaining as this set certainly is. I think this
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: set is going to be one of the hallmarks of
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: twenty twenty four Bowman Chrome, and especially given that all
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: of these cards are short print case hits, So I
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: would say that there's probably one hundred or two hundred
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: of each of them out there.
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: We'll see kind of where that settles when we kind
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: of start seeing more and more of them hit eBay.
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: But especially given how many are already up and have sold,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: that like, it's got to be a few hundred of them,
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: And so.
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: They did really knock this out of the park. That
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: each one of them, you can tell there was a
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: lot more thought put into each individual player and the
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: pun with their name, So they really are fantastic compared
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: to like some of the other crossovers that have come
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: out previously. So on top of it, I do think
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: that this is going to be popular enough where it
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: kind of ends up in Bowman every year the way
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: that Spotlights has, and which would be cool. Like I
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: think that was part of the problem with when they
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: did these crossovers previously is that it wasn't like a
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: limited twenty five car set and kind of had this
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: the right level of novelty factor, you know. And so
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: with this being just a limited twenty five cards, just
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: a few players and them being case hits, it really
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: bumps up that desirability. And you're also looking at some
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: of these are being rookie cards too, so like this
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: Paul Skeens one is going to be I think a
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: really significant Paul Skeen's rookie card at the end of
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: the day, as well as the Jason Dominguez one and
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: the Junior Camenaro. So you've got really some fun cards
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: with some cool ARC stamps on them.
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and you have to Yeah, I'm curious if you've
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: looked enough to pick out like who got the biggest
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: as a rough job in these because there's some there's
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: some pretty cool ones here. You've got you know, strange
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: Spencer fors uh for for Spencer Jones. You've got art
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: Cy Ellie for Elie de la Cruz. You've got Hearted
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: Paul with Paul skeins on a pair of his shoulder.
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: I don't know what they were thinking, but man, I
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: feel bad for Junior common Yero Rippy Jr. And it's
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: like a pick. It's like Junior common Arrow like melting,
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: Like it's like it feels like, man, everybody else got
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: this kind of cool you know thing uh kin Walker
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: for Walking Jenkins. It's like a Captain America. Yeah, planted
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: p p a like literally within the ivy at Wrigley
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: like it's it's it uh socked Tristan with the red
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: sox where he's got he's like holding his socks like
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: all these like are quite quite the thing, you know.
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: And then Drippy Jr. Like I'm like, sorry, Junior camin Narow,
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: we ran out of ideas we got to use, So
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: I feel bad for the guy. That's that's that's gonna
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: be a rough one.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: The chopped Wood James Wood is an interesting one too.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: I I wouldn't don't know if I would be totally
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: down with that. If I was, Jane would, especially being
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: the power hitter that he is.
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: Yeah, no kidding. So it's it's it's it's a fun
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: cowboy Carter for Evan Carter is quite the one as well.
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: So there's there's some good stuff here. To your point,
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: it's gonna be pricey. I haven't looked at the actual
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: soul prices and the we're gonna pull it up real
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: quick here, and yeah, they're they're they're quite They're gonna
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: be quite pricey. We'll just we'll just leave.
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: It thundred dollars. I think they're gonna hover there for
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: a while until we kind of get more understanding of
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: how many are out there. And I don't know whether
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: or not they will be included in the megap boxes
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: as well, So I think that's a that's a question
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: to see, like where they go because if they are
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: hobby only and they're only buried in all those Also,
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: this makes even that like the HTA packs with just
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: the three autos even more interesting because like in theory,
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: I understand where those tops chrome like breaker packs are
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: going in terms of all hits, you know, all refractors,
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: all parallels, all color, all autos, some inserts and things
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: like that where you had a big mix and variety.
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: But it does seem like a really big letdown for
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: those HTA packs that you don't get to chase any
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: of these garbage pail kids.
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you're absolutely right, like that's the kind of Breaker's light,
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: but they're missing a key part of the breakers entertainment lighter.
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: You're missing the delight all gambling, no delight.
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, Well, we spent a lot of time
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: in here, but there's one thing we haven't done here,
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: and I'm gonna, I'm I'm gonna give you the honors
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: today to go you through here. I need the run drown.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: Sure, if I'm prepped, let me drink some water.
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: Of the Prospect checklist parallels here, I would say they
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: didn't go too crazy out there, but there's are a
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: few unique ones that and I have to go back
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: to the plat to see if these are first time
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: they've come come through here. But I'm gonna, I'm gonna
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: toss over to you and give us the rundown on
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: all those Prospect parallels. If you don't mind. Yeah.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: Well, before I get into it, I will say that
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: the base base set parallels disappointing. There's only like two, four, six, eighteen,
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: there's only like twelve, Like what is that come on tops?
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: Like a normal rainbow Like that's that's unheard of. Didn't
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: even repeat any colors in the rainbow for the base checklists.
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: They're all individual different colors. There is aqua wave ray
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: Wave one ninety nine for the base, but all the
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: rest of them are just straight color refractors that looks
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: like So. I think there'll obviously be a little more
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: mix when those mega chrome boxes come out that have
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: the mojo patterns and stuff like that, but for now,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: that's all we got. So here we go all the
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: parallels that we got for these prospects. It is Oh,
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: there's some fun ones in here too. This is gonna
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: get good. We've got shimmer refractors, which are unnumbered one
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: out of twenty two regular refractors out of four ninety
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: nine speckle refractors out of two ninety nine purple refractors
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: out of two fifty purple shimmer refractors out of two
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: fifty fuchsia shimmer refractors out of one, ninety nine blue
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: refractors out of one, fifty Reptilian blue refractors out of
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: one fifty awesome. That's awesome. Ye, I'm on board with
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: Reptilion aqua refractors out of one, twenty five green refractors
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: out of ninety nine green shimmer refractors out of ninety
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: nine Reptilian green refractors out of ninety nine yellow refractors
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: out of seventy five, gold refractors out of fifty gold
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: shimmer refractors out of fifty Reptilian gold refractors out of
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: fifty pearl refractors one in every ten hobby cases. So
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: those are un numbered super short prints and they come
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: in separate path. That's something that we actually haven't discussed
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: is you get pearl packs sometimes in these hobby boxes,
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: and they'll have just the three cards in there. Those
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: are pretty big time that even just the pack will
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: go for quite a bit of money because it'll have
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: that super short printed pearl refractor in there. Orange refractors
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: out of twenty five orange shimmery refractors out of twenty
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: five Reptilian orange refractors out of twenty five black refractors
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: out of ten Reptilian black refractors out of ten, red
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: refractors out of five, red shimmer refractors out of five,
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: Reptilian red refractors out of five, superfractors.
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: One out of one.
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: The Beckett checklist doesn't list the printing plates, but those
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: will be in there too, so you'll have your Cayenne
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: agenta yellow and black printing plates, so those will be
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: buried in the product as well. But Reptilian refractors.
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: What's your take, Yeah, I was actually trying to look
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: at some of those up. It's I'm luke. I love
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: first of all, I love the name like it's a good,
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: good job on that, but that the my O c
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: D in me is a very inconsistent pattern. It's very
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: much as reptilian, right. It's one side's like deep scales
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: of what is snake and the other side is like
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: much wider. Uh. It's it's it's not doesn't work well
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: for uh ah. An O c D type of personality
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: wants everything to be very centered and even and consistent,
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: and so it's a it's an interesting uh look that
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: that's for sure. But hey, I give them credit for
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: for breaking the mold of the of the ray way
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: Waves and all the white wave and all the different
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: kind of versions they had and coming up with something different.
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: At least there's no hot dogs or statues, liberties or
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: anything like that going around this time. So that's a
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: good thing that they didn't bring Bowman down to that. Well.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: I mean, it's also got to make any d backs
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: in this product, like getting the reptilian refractor rainbrow has
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: got to be like up there in terms of like
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: if you're a d Backs collector trying to get the
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: matching reptilian skin in all the.
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: Black Reptilian for Diamondbacks. Ooh that yeah, okay, all right,
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: I'll tell I'll get on board with that one. My
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: OCD can get over that.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: If you are a DBAX fan out there, this will
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: certainly be the product for you. Doesn't look like they
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: have too many people on the Prospects checklist. It looks
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: like actually just three so Yaseel so Layer, Adreel Radney
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: and Drew Jones. So not that hard of a little
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: kind of like mini collection to put together. That would
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: be a cool one.
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: I see it in your future. I think you can
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: do it.
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: Okay, Well, I mean I think that hits the highlights
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: that I wanted to go through here on Bowman Chrome.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: Was there any other inserts, our autographs or gimmicks going
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: on that you want to maybe go over?
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: You know, I think we did a good job hit
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: in it. I'm proud of ops of fanatics that there.
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: You know, we're a whole day into this one and
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: there's no controversy. I'm waiting for you, right, I mean,
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: I feel like knock on wood things things have been
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: consistent here, like the production quality controls. Somebody actually showed
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: up for work for the last few days. So I'm very,
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: very proud of tops. You know. Again, for for folks
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: that love prospect hunting, love going after this, there's some
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: really great names in there. Gonna be fun product. That
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: said this is this is definitely a high risk, high
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: reward product. So I would suggest sitting this one out,
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: coming back here in a few months and collecting like
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: the nineteen ninety nine set if you if you may,
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: going after a few those garbage pail kids, if they
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: actually get to be somewhat reasonable whatsoever, maybe grab one
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: just for your favorite team. I think there's gonna be
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: a lot of fun stuff in this one. At the
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: end of the day, and I think they've done a
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: good job with with bowman Or the last few years,
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: trying to build up some more value underneath it for
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: them to be able to keep the price point where
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: it's at so fun set at the end of the day,
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: I'm more excited for tops update after we even just
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: briefly mentioned it earlier.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and especially like if you are interested in Bowmen Chrome,
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: like you said, I would certainly suggest sitting out this
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: round of hobby as it's just not going to be
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: a very pleasant time. I think watching your money be
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: flushed down the drain trying to open these hobby products,
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: but certainly come back in on October second when those
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: makeup boxes come out. So I mean, you'll still be
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: flushing fifty bucks down the drain, but fifty bucks is
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: a lot better than three.
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: Hundred, very very true.
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: So okay, Well, with that, we'll wrap it up for
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: this week. Brew Let everybody know where they can find
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: your stuff to read it and contact you in socials

- 1:38:40Speaker 1: So just a couple of weeks left and things have
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: really gone off the rails. I've been suggesting the likes
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: of Patrick Corbran and Andrew Ben and Tende and all
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: sorts of other really strange matchups because that's what it's
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: focused on at this point as well as it's late
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: in September. Man we've been analyzing hundreds and hundreds of
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: baseball players for six months. Things get a little screwy sometimes,
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: but yes, if you want to rate and review this pod.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: Certainly do that on Apple Podcasts or Spotify or wherever

- 1:39:28Speaker 2: We still have that.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: Chris Martin is a top twelve al pitcher up there,
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: so honestly, I don't think anybody's bought one, but one
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: day somebody will want to commemorate that. Hopefully in twenty
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: five years or so, it'll be like the Bowman Chrome
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine of T shirts.
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: So check that out.
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: That will be in the show notes, as well as
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: links to everything else we've discussed, so any of the
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: news notes that we discussed in the show notes, as
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: well as links to all these checklists and everything else
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: for Bowman Chrome. So yes, that will wrap us up
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: for this week. I really appreciate you checking us out
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: and sticking around. We'll see you, same time, same place
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: next week. See everybody,
