- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Canus Parker. Welcome to Film Study presented by Salesforce,
- 0:04Speaker 1: and I am here with the one, the Only, Olivia Miles.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Thanks for sitting down and doing some film study with me.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Thanks for having me. I'm super excited. I'm excited to
- 0:15Speaker 1: get started. But before we do, I want to talk
- 0:17Speaker 1: about just you in general. There's a couple of things
- 0:20Speaker 1: that have happened since a couple of weeks we've.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Seen you play in college.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Can you just talk about the last couple of weeks
- 0:27Speaker 1: and yeah, yeah, like how excited you are to be
- 0:31Speaker 1: the point guard for tc.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Yes, I mean it's been crazy, you know, fastest week
- 0:38Speaker 3: of my entire life. You know, I had to decide
- 0:40Speaker 3: in forty eight hours, you know, my future and whether
- 0:44Speaker 3: I wanted to go to the draft or stay another year.
- 0:46Speaker 3: But ultimately I was just listening to my body and
- 0:49Speaker 3: needed some extra time before I turned pro, and and
- 0:52Speaker 3: I decided that, you know, a best fit for me
- 0:54Speaker 3: would be TCU. So I'm really excited to go down
- 0:56Speaker 3: there with with coach Campbell and you know, get some stuff.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Well, congratulations, because I know how much of a student
- 1:05Speaker 1: of the game you are, and I'm excited to see
- 1:07Speaker 1: what he's gonna unlock because I've seen I've really enjoyed
- 1:11Speaker 1: watching him from the coaching standpoint of how he brings
- 1:14Speaker 1: out the best in his players and puts them in
- 1:16Speaker 1: the best situation, which we're gonna see how you're gonna
- 1:19Speaker 1: do that. But sitting here now in New York, next year,
- 1:24Speaker 1: you're going to be sitting here yep, and you're gonna
- 1:27Speaker 1: be going pro. So what is your focus like going
- 1:30Speaker 1: into this last year college? What do you hope to
- 1:33Speaker 1: improve on and get better? From a player standpoint on
- 1:36Speaker 1: the court.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say definitely my leadership. My sophomore year,
- 1:41Speaker 3: I went down with an injury, sat my junior year,
- 1:43Speaker 3: and then came back my senior year and they were like, okay,
- 1:45Speaker 3: you're a captain. So it was a quick adjustment for me,
- 1:48Speaker 3: and I didn't feel like I had enough time to
- 1:49Speaker 3: kind of build my leadership my leadership skills as well
- 1:52Speaker 3: as I wanted to. So I'm excited to build those
- 1:55Speaker 3: pro habits and those leadership habits for another year before
- 1:59Speaker 3: I get into the thick.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Of it, and individually, from a game standpoint, obviously we've
- 2:05Speaker 1: seen your catch and shoot, but you have the ball
- 2:07Speaker 1: in your hands a lot.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 1: So what do you think is your strength in what
- 2:12Speaker 1: you bring to the table when you have the ball
- 2:14Speaker 1: in your hands, and whether it's in transition, whether it's
- 2:17Speaker 1: in half court set.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say definitely in transition. I'm able to
- 2:21Speaker 3: scan the floor very quickly, so I can find my
- 2:24Speaker 3: teammates and you know the way they're able to cut
- 2:27Speaker 3: and find their windows and find their space in the
- 2:29Speaker 3: half court. I feel like I excel at driving and kicking.
- 2:33Speaker 3: I love a paint touch, getting two feet in the
- 2:35Speaker 3: paint and reading you know, if I have my shot
- 2:37Speaker 3: or if I can kick it out to my teammate
- 2:38Speaker 3: for a three. So just penetrating and seeing, you know
- 2:41Speaker 3: what the game gives me, what the defense gives me.
- 2:44Speaker 1: When you call your own number, because you do that
- 2:47Speaker 1: and we'll see that today when you call your own number,
- 2:51Speaker 1: What is your strength? Without giving away your scouting reports,
- 2:54Speaker 1: call a D one basketball.
- 2:55Speaker 2: What is your strength? What do you like to do?
- 2:57Speaker 2: What feels good on the court.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I would say I've really fallen in love with like
- 3:00Speaker 3: a brush or a goot screen. The Warriors actually run
- 3:04Speaker 3: it a lot where they put two guards in it,
- 3:06Speaker 3: and it's just so hard to guard as a defender
- 3:08Speaker 3: because you know, you either have to switch or you
- 3:10Speaker 3: have to stay with but if your guard gets clipped
- 3:12Speaker 3: a little bit, then you have to kind of communicate quickly.
- 3:15Speaker 3: So it's an easy, you know, quick fix at the
- 3:18Speaker 3: end of a shot clock that I could just calm
- 3:20Speaker 3: out number and have a shooter to my left if
- 3:23Speaker 3: I need them.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I like that. Yeah, all right, Olivia the whip pass.
- 3:28Speaker 1: You alluded to that just a second ago about how
- 3:30Speaker 1: you love finding shooters off of screens because of the
- 3:35Speaker 1: help side. So we're gonna do is we're gonna watch
- 3:37Speaker 1: the whole play in totality and then we'll go back
- 3:40Speaker 1: and and kind of talk about it. Okay, So right
- 3:44Speaker 1: here top of the key, you see this horns action.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Looks like it's supposed to be a bump and recover. Okay,
- 3:51Speaker 1: So when you're coming off here right obviously you're right handed.
- 3:55Speaker 1: It looks like they're trying to force you left, but
- 3:57Speaker 1: you're gonna come off. You have your shooter over in
- 4:00Speaker 1: the corner. So can you talk me through what exactly
- 4:04Speaker 1: you're thinking in this scenario?
- 4:06Speaker 2: Is where are you trying to gain advantage?
- 4:08Speaker 3: So we call this hornset choice, and because you're able
- 4:12Speaker 3: to pick which side you want to come off. I
- 4:15Speaker 3: usually loved, obviously a whip pass. It is hard to
- 4:18Speaker 3: do on the strong side, so I love a weak
- 4:21Speaker 3: side whip pass, especially to a shooter that I trust
- 4:25Speaker 3: literally with my whole soul. And obviously, you know, a
- 4:28Speaker 3: defensive rotation, the low man has to come over, so
- 4:32Speaker 3: before she even has the opportunity to like recover, I
- 4:35Speaker 3: just hit him, hit Sony really quick. You know it's
- 4:38Speaker 3: hard for her to try. So what you're seeing.
- 4:39Speaker 1: What you're seeing here is the post player mistake number
- 4:43Speaker 1: one of the post player. With a guard like you, you
- 4:46Speaker 1: have to be up to touch. I don't know their
- 4:47Speaker 1: defensive too much space with Miami, but this is too
- 4:51Speaker 1: much space for a passer like you. You have a
- 4:54Speaker 1: person and help side. It's outside the paint yep. It
- 4:59Speaker 1: looks kind of like the guard gets kind of nailed
- 5:01Speaker 1: pretty hard. You come off shoulders shoulder, which is something
- 5:04Speaker 1: I love because you don't give the defense any space
- 5:09Speaker 1: to sneak through. There is nothing she can't get through
- 5:12Speaker 1: that without the post player being up. So it looks
- 5:16Speaker 1: like it's almost like a three player switch.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Yes, right guard stays high. If anything, the girl in
- 5:25Speaker 3: the green shoes would stay low if Leah two number
- 5:28Speaker 3: twenty were to roll, Yeah, exactly.
- 5:30Speaker 1: So what are you looking at when you come off?
- 5:33Speaker 1: That's going to determine because it looks like right here
- 5:35Speaker 1: you have determined already that you're gonna whip past.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah, So a little bit of it is pre determined.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Like I'm not gonna sit here and lie, but I
- 5:43Speaker 3: do see number four out of position and just not
- 5:46Speaker 3: really in a stance ready to guard. So I knew
- 5:48Speaker 3: that if I could get it over there quickly enough.
- 5:50Speaker 3: I don't know how far she's gonna come over to
- 5:52Speaker 3: try and help, but if I can get it there, like, look,
- 5:55Speaker 3: she's not even looking right now, so if I can
- 5:56Speaker 3: get it there quickly enough, she won't have time to reach.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I think that's kind of what happened and what I love.
- 6:03Speaker 1: And this is only great passers know this. You hit
- 6:08Speaker 1: somebody in their chest, higher percentage in their shooting pocket.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Look at that on the laces. She doesn't have to
- 6:18Speaker 1: move her hands. She's already lacing it up right here.
- 6:22Speaker 1: There's no extra motion. And that's the thing when you're
- 6:27Speaker 1: coming off. Yes, there's throwing a whip pass, but there's
- 6:29Speaker 1: also throwing a whip pass on target, and you're able
- 6:32Speaker 1: to do this coming off on this on this play
- 6:35Speaker 1: right here, which is excellent. So okay, the only thing
- 6:41Speaker 1: is I'll say you went to the baseline.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Well, let that go.
- 6:46Speaker 1: All right? So the next play right here, you're not
- 6:50Speaker 1: just a force on the offensive end. You could be
- 6:52Speaker 1: a force on the defensive end.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Everyone wants to talk about my defense. Oka, say it
- 6:57Speaker 3: for the people in the back. Okay, So we're going
- 7:00Speaker 3: to look at that right here. You're getting through the
- 7:02Speaker 3: screen and a drop coverage. Yep. She puts it right
- 7:06Speaker 3: in front of me.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Which is unbelievable right here.
- 7:09Speaker 1: So I want to talk about this yep, because there's
- 7:12Speaker 1: a lot of guards that die on place. Okay, I'm
- 7:15Speaker 1: assuming she's an okay shooter, because you're going over.
- 7:18Speaker 3: The incredible shooter of forty six. Okay, Yeah, I'm.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Assuming she's a really good shooter because you're going over, yes,
- 7:25Speaker 1: so far off the court right here? Yes, Okay, So
- 7:29Speaker 1: you're going over, you're in a drop coverage, and you're
- 7:34Speaker 1: behind her at this point. Yeah. I had to fight
- 7:37Speaker 1: with very limited nail help because Hayley Vanlyth is up test,
- 7:41Speaker 1: which I understand. Here you're able to beat her with
- 7:45Speaker 1: your feet, square up hands.
- 7:49Speaker 2: She brought it down, you took advantage of it.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Fifty to fifty foul call there.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I got luck out of here.
- 7:56Speaker 3: I got to take it.
- 7:57Speaker 2: We take it, yep, okay, And then.
- 8:00Speaker 1: In transition you fix the goggles twice, actually.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Fix the disrespect I want to see.
- 8:11Speaker 1: So we gonna go back to this part right here,
- 8:13Speaker 1: which is what I love to me.
- 8:15Speaker 2: This is one of those drills.
- 8:16Speaker 1: That you do every single practice from the time you're
- 8:21Speaker 1: in fourth grade.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Not fix your goggles.
- 8:24Speaker 1: So the whole point of transition is to get the
- 8:27Speaker 1: ball from one side of the floor to the middle
- 8:30Speaker 1: or to the other side, because there are no there's
- 8:34Speaker 1: no strong side, there's no weak side. You are one
- 8:37Speaker 1: of the best in the country at doing this. And
- 8:40Speaker 1: if you looked at me in my career, that's all
- 8:42Speaker 1: I did was take slice. I always slice it, slice
- 8:45Speaker 1: it because it makes it so hard to guard. Right,
- 8:48Speaker 1: It's like, this is a this is a cone drill.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Right here. You are literally doing what we've done in
- 8:53Speaker 1: college forever. You're slicing the floor. You already know who
- 8:56Speaker 1: you're going to pass to is these is one of
- 8:58Speaker 1: these two where it's Hannah Hidalgo with the delayed three yep,
- 9:04Speaker 1: and by slicing this there's miscommunication. There's all those things,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and you're able to find for the layup. So can
- 9:11Speaker 1: you walk me through how this came about? Because you
- 9:14Speaker 1: do this so naturally?
- 9:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, so I was pushing the brake. I
- 9:20Speaker 3: obviously know where everyone's running habits should be, so I
- 9:24Speaker 3: trusted that Maddie would be there. But ultimately the defense
- 9:27Speaker 3: has to sprint and turn their back. So Haley Vanlyd,
- 9:31Speaker 3: as you saw, she kind of lost Maddie because she's
- 9:34Speaker 3: sprinting to Hannah. You just give her a little look
- 9:36Speaker 3: like eyes are everything. I don't think people really understand
- 9:39Speaker 3: for the people in the back. That's why I fixed
- 9:41Speaker 3: my goggles. I had to be able to use my eyes.
- 9:45Speaker 2: You fix your goggles twice.
- 9:48Speaker 3: But no, I think you just give a little head
- 9:50Speaker 3: fake or a little eye fake. It forces people to
- 9:52Speaker 3: to to make movements, manipulate them how you want. You see,
- 9:56Speaker 3: Haley doesn't even really know what's going on here, so
- 9:58Speaker 3: I was able to find Mattie. She's a big target.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Just put all the money for and got Its easy.
- 10:04Speaker 1: To But yeah, your eyes created this play in so
- 10:10Speaker 1: many different ways. Honestly, you're spacing could have been better,
- 10:14Speaker 1: but the team spacing could have been better. Because right here,
- 10:17Speaker 1: I think she should slow up a little bit and
- 10:18Speaker 1: let you go in front.
- 10:19Speaker 2: But okay, and she should be going that way, But.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Your eyes sell this play because there's four back, one trailing.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Haley should just hold low.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Yes, But because you have a shooter that's coming up,
- 10:35Speaker 1: you have a shooter that's spaced on this side.
- 10:37Speaker 2: You take advantage of that. I think another.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Great thing that you do, and I don't even know
- 10:44Speaker 1: you probably do it purposeful just because you're high, IQ.
- 10:47Speaker 1: But anytime you drill at a post player the opposing post,
- 10:53Speaker 1: it makes things very difficult.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Yes, so for you going at Sedona here, it makes
- 11:01Speaker 2: it really.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Difficult because you already have a post that's out a
- 11:04Speaker 1: position down here, so you basically.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Take up too exactly exactly. I was kind of nervous
- 11:11Speaker 3: like that she was gonna get her hand on this.
- 11:13Speaker 3: She was close. But I always love to engage a
- 11:15Speaker 3: big and then drop it off. We work on that
- 11:18Speaker 3: a lot. Yeah, as a big, I don't like being engaged.
- 11:24Speaker 2: I don't like the experience, be honest.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Okay, that's a good one.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a really good one.
- 11:29Speaker 1: That's the next play, All right, pass to the pain.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Let's see.
- 11:34Speaker 1: So this one we're gonna watch in totality. This one
- 11:39Speaker 1: isn't great, but I want to but I feel like
- 11:41Speaker 1: in film you can learn from the good the bad.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Absolutely right, So here.
- 11:47Speaker 1: You come off not great spacing, not great spac Hannah
- 11:52Speaker 1: should be either out out of the picture, but right
- 11:57Speaker 1: here you're making the pass in traffic. You're such a
- 12:04Speaker 1: great point guard that they had to.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Put two on the ball with you and this didn't happen.
- 12:10Speaker 1: This is why we picked from this game because there
- 12:12Speaker 1: weren't many of these in this game because you you
- 12:14Speaker 1: all were flawless in this early one against USC. But
- 12:18Speaker 1: here Hannah needs to be over here, which she needs
- 12:21Speaker 1: to be farther up.
- 12:22Speaker 2: The lane needs to be in the corner.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Yes, And we worked on that immediately after this game,
- 12:28Speaker 3: like our spacing and our habits, because like our team
- 12:31Speaker 3: had such great guards and we were like, we can't move,
- 12:33Speaker 3: we need space. So yeah, I definitely see what you're
- 12:35Speaker 3: saying here, But.
- 12:36Speaker 1: It's your job on display to put them there.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Absolutely, just push them, push it to the wing, push
- 12:42Speaker 3: two to the.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Corner, yep, and like hold the ball, push push you there.
- 12:46Speaker 1: And I think that's a thing at the next level
- 12:48Speaker 1: that if you show.
- 12:49Speaker 3: That you can do that, organize.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, because I see a lot of and I've said
- 12:54Speaker 1: this before, I see a lot of Chelsea Gray and you.
- 12:58Speaker 1: And Chelsea was very hesitan, and she was my rookie.
- 13:01Speaker 1: She was very hesitant early on to be vocal and
- 13:04Speaker 1: do those things. But that patience allows you to be great.
- 13:09Speaker 1: And you're seeing now where she manipulates stuff by putting
- 13:13Speaker 1: people in the position to succeed because you know, you know,
- 13:17Speaker 1: you guys are four or five six plays ahead of Yes,
- 13:20Speaker 1: what you're gonna do? So coming off right here because
- 13:25Speaker 1: of the spacing, there's not much operation that.
- 13:28Speaker 2: You can do.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Right early in the shock clock too. It's early in
- 13:33Speaker 1: the shot clock. But there's a hedge. It's a late hedge,
- 13:35Speaker 1: late herd almost like a trap a little bit.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Yeah, but no, you're not gonna get that in the lead.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Okay, chill out.
- 13:43Speaker 1: You could have would, but we're won't make the safe play. Yes,
- 13:50Speaker 1: So it's either the handoff or wait, for it to develop.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and you hit the corner. So the thing that.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I think at the next level, you're going to be ridiculous.
- 14:05Speaker 1: And this is what in the WNB. I wish that
- 14:07Speaker 1: they kept They just started doing an NBA, but I
- 14:10Speaker 1: wish they kept hockey ass this because those are crazy.
- 14:16Speaker 1: So you hit that first, you either hit you wait
- 14:19Speaker 1: for it to develop and hit. Hannah hit the corner
- 14:24Speaker 1: and then they hit the post.
- 14:25Speaker 3: I can honestly hit Leah tu here too, and she
- 14:27Speaker 3: has a perfect Hilo opportunity.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Mm hmm. So I just think that sometimes playing in
- 14:32Speaker 1: a crowd, especially when you're playing in a crowd with
- 14:34Speaker 1: bigger players that are more athletic, you're not gonna be
- 14:37Speaker 1: able to hit.
- 14:38Speaker 3: For sure. I know that was not a great read
- 14:40Speaker 3: by me, but or just put it on the floor.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Yeah exactly, Yeah, you put it on the floor.
- 14:44Speaker 1: But listen, you've made a million of these plays, so
- 14:47Speaker 1: why why wouldn't you be able to make this?
- 14:49Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 14:49Speaker 2: So I understand it.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Oh we scored, okay, good, you.
- 14:58Speaker 2: All right right here, I'm gonna watch it.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so we're gonna go back on this because
- 15:11Speaker 1: I want you to be great, and I think you
- 15:13Speaker 1: have the ability to be absolutely great, hold me accountable
- 15:18Speaker 1: in this league.
- 15:20Speaker 2: And I speak yes in college.
- 15:23Speaker 1: But similar and I'll say this, I look at this
- 15:25Speaker 1: as an opportunity for you, similar to Steph decided to
- 15:29Speaker 1: go back to school to play on Baltmore because he
- 15:31Speaker 1: knew he was going to be a point guard in
- 15:32Speaker 1: the league. Right. I think you going back to school
- 15:35Speaker 1: gives your body a chance to get another year away
- 15:38Speaker 1: from your injury, which we all know it takes about
- 15:41Speaker 1: eighteen months to feel like yourself after you have a
- 15:43Speaker 1: knee injury. But also you have to have the intention
- 15:47Speaker 1: when you're going back. Yeah, and you've said and I've
- 15:50Speaker 1: had that in my career as well. People have questioned
- 15:53Speaker 1: my defense and things like that, but really it's just
- 15:55Speaker 1: the little things.
- 15:57Speaker 2: It's little tweaks, yes, exactly.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And there's little things you can get away with in
- 16:01Speaker 1: college that you can't absolutely And so I challenge you
- 16:05Speaker 1: because of your size and your ability, you got to
- 16:08Speaker 1: close gaps better.
- 16:10Speaker 2: So right here, Chelsea.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Gray, Kaylin Clark, pull in pulland or even if they
- 16:19Speaker 1: don't pull, you would do this to you.
- 16:23Speaker 2: You would love.
- 16:24Speaker 1: This type of this type And I'm not saying you
- 16:26Speaker 1: got to get up and pressure and slap the floor
- 16:28Speaker 1: and all that. But in this guard to guard, I
- 16:31Speaker 1: don't know your schemes, but I would assume it's a switch.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Maybe it's point to switch. I don't know switch, but
- 16:36Speaker 1: I would assume.
- 16:36Speaker 2: This is a switch. So you still got to be
- 16:39Speaker 2: closer on this.
- 16:40Speaker 1: So up to touch up here allows you to be
- 16:42Speaker 1: up to touch on this possession, which makes things easier
- 16:46Speaker 1: for you.
- 16:47Speaker 2: So you're not going behind a screen.
- 16:50Speaker 1: On a shooter because she basically knows that she wants
- 16:53Speaker 1: to go to her left, so she's she's trying to
- 16:55Speaker 1: take you where she doesn't want to go to tea.
- 16:57Speaker 2: So you see this little fake right here. It gets
- 16:59Speaker 2: you to kind of stick on the screen.
- 17:00Speaker 3: A little bit for sure. Yeah, our scheme was actually
- 17:03Speaker 3: to go under her, but yeah, because she she's like
- 17:07Speaker 3: to get into her shot off the dribble. It's like,
- 17:09Speaker 3: but it's tough when Sedna is like as big as
- 17:12Speaker 3: she is because I get clipped here, so I'm already
- 17:15Speaker 3: a step slow.
- 17:17Speaker 1: I just feel like, biggest gap if you're up here,
- 17:20Speaker 1: the biggest gap would be to go.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Through, do you know what I mean?
- 17:23Speaker 3: For sure? So right like, I, yeah, I trap myself
- 17:29Speaker 3: in that way. Yeah, I know what you mean.
- 17:31Speaker 1: So and I don't think I should say a shooter
- 17:34Speaker 1: out here, yeah she is.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Yeah, we were staying home on everyone.
- 17:42Speaker 1: But yeah, so that's the only thing is is like
- 17:45Speaker 1: closing your gap, which I think is a easy quick fix.
- 17:49Speaker 3: In the league. Is that like essential? Is that what
- 17:53Speaker 3: you guys focus on?
- 17:55Speaker 1: So people are so good, you have to give yourself
- 17:59Speaker 1: an advantage somehow, And by that I mean you might
- 18:05Speaker 1: be late, but you have help built in versus, if
- 18:10Speaker 1: you shoot the gap and you're not supposed to, you
- 18:12Speaker 1: don't have the help, so you're gonna get cooked. And
- 18:15Speaker 1: so my point that I'm trying to make is sometimes
- 18:19Speaker 1: giving up space is the worst thing.
- 18:21Speaker 2: When there's a screen coming.
- 18:23Speaker 1: What are you taught to get into the ball for
- 18:25Speaker 1: to get over the screen? The offensive player wants you
- 18:28Speaker 1: to get off the ball because they want space to
- 18:30Speaker 1: be able to dance with it, do all the things that.
- 18:33Speaker 2: You do with it.
- 18:34Speaker 1: So defensively, I think that's my main thing that was
- 18:36Speaker 1: an adjustment is if you're supposed to be top side,
- 18:40Speaker 1: if you're not top side, if you're kind of like
- 18:43Speaker 1: not three quarters or more sixty six around. They're gonna
- 18:48Speaker 1: bury you because your help is not.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Built for that, you know, So it's good. I like it.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Okay, so right here, you call your own number, which
- 18:58Speaker 1: I absolutely love and hope you do more.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Me too.
- 19:03Speaker 2: You are a big guard.
- 19:04Speaker 1: And look at this. She not eating up the space, dummy,
- 19:08Speaker 1: I'm not eating up the space you like you like
- 19:12Speaker 1: you have reads vision yeah, momentum yeah, change of speed, yes,
- 19:17Speaker 1: that's just like you're picking you're poison. Yeah, how did
- 19:22Speaker 1: you get this? Because this is pretty ridiculous.
- 19:27Speaker 3: I think I get to sidestep to my right hand.
- 19:31Speaker 3: It's already right here for me to shoot, if that
- 19:33Speaker 3: makes sense. Like I feel like with the left, I
- 19:36Speaker 3: kind of have to go here and then bring it
- 19:38Speaker 3: back to the center easy. So the ball is already
- 19:42Speaker 3: here and I just have to throw it up off
- 19:44Speaker 3: the side steps. So it just feels more natural to
- 19:47Speaker 3: me in that state.
- 19:48Speaker 1: But you have to completely square up, whereas with your
- 19:53Speaker 1: left you're already squared.
- 19:55Speaker 3: I don't know someone with the ball because I usually
- 19:57Speaker 3: shoot it quick. I usually have a quicker release on
- 19:59Speaker 3: this shot. On your right, No, on like a side step, yeah,
- 20:02Speaker 3: going right, going right, yeah, exactly. So I don't really
- 20:05Speaker 3: take the time to square that makes sense.
- 20:08Speaker 1: But what I'm saying is you, yeah, I see what
- 20:09Speaker 1: you're saying.
- 20:10Speaker 5: What I mean, but.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Usually right handed shooters shoot better going left.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Yes, Like I love a pull up to my left.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Because you're yes, yeah, you're coming off right left.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Yep, exactly.
- 20:26Speaker 1: But right here you're setting her up. You know exactly
- 20:28Speaker 1: what you're about to do right here. You just walk
- 20:30Speaker 1: into your spot. That's another thing. This next year in college,
- 20:36Speaker 1: the best advice I ever received was figuring out how to.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Get to your spots.
- 20:42Speaker 1: So you look, there's all these analytics. Now you look
- 20:46Speaker 1: at points of the on the court that are you know,
- 20:51Speaker 1: you shoot seventy five percent from or you shoot whatever,
- 20:54Speaker 1: and then from those zones, figuring out how to bump fade,
- 20:57Speaker 1: how to step through, how to sign step, how to
- 21:01Speaker 1: lull people to sleep, so you can get to those
- 21:03Speaker 1: spots that you're so great at. And that's exactly what
- 21:06Speaker 1: you did.
- 21:06Speaker 5: Here.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Where are your spots?
- 21:10Speaker 2: My spots were.
- 21:13Speaker 1: This left elbow, yeah, this mid post right here?
- 21:17Speaker 3: Okay, why just efficient there?
- 21:20Speaker 1: So overseas, if you don't cross over, it's a travel
- 21:26Speaker 1: so you always have to cross over when you first dribble,
- 21:29Speaker 1: So I just got so used to going left, so
- 21:32Speaker 1: I left and my right shoulder can't rip and open up.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Wow.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Yeah, So my right shoulder was my go to, so
- 21:41Speaker 1: I would do everything to get back to that right shoulder.
- 21:45Speaker 2: But I had my counter to my right shoulder was
- 21:48Speaker 2: my left hook.
- 21:49Speaker 1: So I had a nice left hook right over my
- 21:52Speaker 1: but it was still my right shoulder.
- 21:53Speaker 2: But this spot for you, I think is huge.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I also think developing that little floater you're counter to.
- 22:00Speaker 3: This is the.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Side step come back left, Okay, do you know what
- 22:05Speaker 1: I mean?
- 22:06Speaker 2: You set them up with the side.
- 22:07Speaker 1: You're walking them down right here, right, you're walking them down,
- 22:11Speaker 1: walking them down. They know this is your spot. You
- 22:13Speaker 1: don't put it. You don't put it up. It's right here.
- 22:16Speaker 1: And then crossover with your right shoulder going to the middle.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I feel like when you go baseline right, you're penning yourself.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Especially with somebody in the corner.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Especially transition right here, get to the middle, gat to
- 22:30Speaker 3: the middle right there. Yeah for sure, yep.
- 22:35Speaker 1: So I think that that's an area, but a move
- 22:39Speaker 1: and a counter move for all your spots. That's essential. Yeah,
- 22:44Speaker 1: that's essential, and your goal this season.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Is like.
- 22:48Speaker 1: You want them on the scouting report to say she
- 22:51Speaker 1: likes to get to this spot, but yeah, gotta be
- 22:54Speaker 1: careful of this. Yes, that's what you want on your
- 22:58Speaker 1: scout got you?
- 23:03Speaker 2: This is my favorite right.
- 23:05Speaker 4: I didn't know this was going to be a film study. Oh,
- 23:08Speaker 4: this is a film study because we're studying every part
- 23:10Speaker 4: of the game right here. Okay, I don't know hair out,
- 23:14Speaker 4: we got goggles, we got the tongue out.
- 23:16Speaker 1: We just hit a pull up three?
- 23:18Speaker 3: What what?
- 23:19Speaker 1: What?
- 23:19Speaker 3: Yeah? I mean I think we were that put us
- 23:22Speaker 3: up nine at this point. So I was like feeling it.
- 23:24Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, like I just had a shot.
- 23:26Speaker 3: I was feeling good.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Now it's time for a custom segment presented by Agent
- 23:31Speaker 1: Force from Salesforce. It's what AI was meant to be.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I want you to drop your favorite play, my favorite play,
- 23:40Speaker 1: your favorite play, So a play either you have in
- 23:43Speaker 1: your playbook or a play that I would like to
- 23:47Speaker 1: have in your playbook that would get you or your
- 23:49Speaker 1: team a bucket. And then as a post player, of course,
- 23:52Speaker 1: I got to figure out how I'm well defend it.
- 23:54Speaker 3: So it's an NBA style play. So we have the
- 23:58Speaker 3: one with the ball, the three, four, five and the two.
- 24:05Speaker 3: So the first part of the of the play is
- 24:07Speaker 3: a ghost screen by the four and the one dribbles over,
- 24:12Speaker 3: so four is now over here race.
- 24:20Speaker 4: Wow.
- 24:20Speaker 3: Okay, so the one the one then whips whips the
- 24:24Speaker 3: pass over to the four and space is out, so
- 24:29Speaker 3: the one gets a lot of space over here. The
- 24:32Speaker 3: four has the ball, dhose to the two. The two
- 24:36Speaker 3: comes up swings the ball to the one at the
- 24:40Speaker 3: same time. The timing, yes, timing is so so important
- 24:44Speaker 3: in this play because it will get the point guard open.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Oh sorry, the five moves to the other side, and then
- 24:54Speaker 3: once the one has the ball, she should be like
- 24:56Speaker 3: right here, set the upscreen attack or if the point
- 25:00Speaker 3: cards denied, the four can I mean, the two can
- 25:02Speaker 3: go right to the five right here past the one
- 25:04Speaker 3: can come.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Then it comes off a handoff.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Yeah exactly.
- 25:07Speaker 2: So yeah, that's really hard to guard because.
- 25:12Speaker 1: First of all, you can't really deny because the ball's
- 25:15Speaker 1: weak side. Obviously when you scout it you try, but
- 25:18Speaker 1: then you're still late for the screen.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Yes, so it ends the play. Got to make sure
- 25:24Speaker 3: you have a shooter in the four so their help
- 25:27Speaker 3: doesn't sag off. And then the two's up here, so
- 25:29Speaker 3: it's always an option to whip a pass right back,
- 25:32Speaker 3: so that yeah, it's a great play. We usually run
- 25:36Speaker 3: at the end of like shot clocks or end of quarters,
- 25:40Speaker 3: halftime whatever. We usually score on it, so it's it's
- 25:43Speaker 3: pretty good.
- 25:43Speaker 2: So what do you do if they trap.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Trap the ball screen? We usually have the three as
- 25:49Speaker 3: an option to to an outlet, Yeah, exactly, it's outlet
- 25:53Speaker 3: or usually I'll read the trap before and then back
- 25:56Speaker 3: dribble and then just.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Get it out exactly the ball.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Yeah, that is my.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Fact to run that play as the five and got.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Yes.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I think also giving you more space is clearing out
- 26:10Speaker 1: the three.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Yeah, do you know what I mean? We actually have
- 26:13Speaker 3: a play like that. We just empty out the side. Yeah,
- 26:16Speaker 3: and if you don't mine on dried up and you
- 26:18Speaker 3: have the fast screen, yes, fast screen exactly. And with
- 26:23Speaker 3: bigger guards.
- 26:24Speaker 1: I know I used to run this a lot with
- 26:25Speaker 1: Chelsea because when you're coming off the upscreen, you're going baseline.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Because you're a bigger guard, you can see weeks sides,
- 26:33Speaker 1: whereas as a.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Little guard you kind of get hot in the corner.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Yeah, So on this play we set the upscreen here right,
- 26:39Speaker 3: mm hmm. And then if we don't have it, we'll
- 26:41Speaker 3: swing to the four back cut she goes, and then
- 26:45Speaker 3: it's just continuous d H O. Swing to the other side.
- 26:49Speaker 3: So that's this instance you were talking about where the
- 26:51Speaker 3: three clears out and yeah, the spacing and time, like
- 26:55Speaker 3: these players want to work without spacing and timing.
- 26:57Speaker 1: So spacing time and yeah, that's amazing. And also if
- 27:00Speaker 1: you want to kind of keep it from being clustered
- 27:03Speaker 1: over here, instead of having the force at the ghost screen,
- 27:06Speaker 1: you have the three set it and then you set
- 27:09Speaker 1: that hammer action.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you know what I mean.
- 27:11Speaker 2: So you have a.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Screen for you and then you occupy week side.
- 27:16Speaker 3: Yeah that hammer yeah, with that hamm reaction.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Yeah. But honestly, with a passing, scoring, dynamic guard like you,
- 27:23Speaker 1: I'm sure a coach, sure a coach is Coach Hampbell
- 27:27Speaker 1: is going to be very excited next year.
- 27:29Speaker 3: I just need space and a high ball screen. That's it.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Okay, So we got a message for you. I've talked
- 27:36Speaker 1: about Chelsea a lot.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Yes, what's up, Olivia.
- 27:40Speaker 5: I hope you're doing well as you tackle your next journey.
- 27:43Speaker 5: You know, we have similar styles of play. Even tells
- 27:45Speaker 5: you that just the way you dictate action and pass
- 27:48Speaker 5: the ball in the open court. Each year you've gotten
- 27:51Speaker 5: better and added to parts of your game. So this
- 27:54Speaker 5: next year, make sure you come back even better. Quiet
- 27:57Speaker 5: the noise, and just enjoy playing. You don't get these
- 27:59Speaker 5: college years back, so have fun, stay in the moment.
- 28:02Speaker 5: If you ever need anything, hit me. Excited to see
- 28:05Speaker 5: you play another year. Looking forward to stealing those transition
- 28:09Speaker 5: passes though, because I know they're coming. But anyways, have
- 28:12Speaker 5: a good time, enjoy, enjoy your last year in college,
- 28:15Speaker 5: and I look forward to seeing you soon.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Wow, that's the goat. That's all I can say. That's
- 28:23Speaker 3: the point God right there.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Listen, take advantage of the resource because I think she
- 28:28Speaker 1: can help, you know, Yeah, I.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Want to pick her brain and see see if we
- 28:35Speaker 3: think similarly. I just loved watching her. I really started
- 28:40Speaker 3: to love her when she commentated for ACC that one year.
- 28:43Speaker 3: I don't know if you remember that, but she was,
- 28:46Speaker 3: you know, talking about all my games and just the
- 28:47Speaker 3: way she she is. It's just like it's so fun
- 28:50Speaker 3: to be around her.
- 28:50Speaker 1: So I look forward to watching you next year. I
- 28:54Speaker 1: look forward to seeing what you're going to develop and
- 28:56Speaker 1: what you were going to improve on.
- 28:59Speaker 2: The summer.
- 29:00Speaker 1: I think the biggest advice that I would give you
- 29:02Speaker 1: is just have fun with it. Again what Chelsea said,
- 29:06Speaker 1: you only have so many years. Yeah, and college go
- 29:08Speaker 1: so fast. Make your imprint, don't apologize for it. There's
- 29:13Speaker 1: very few people that have the ability to dictate a game,
- 29:17Speaker 1: and you're one of them.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so just know that. Thank you, thank you.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Yeah. I can't wait to get better and just have fun.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Like you said.
- 29:23Speaker 2: So, he's sitting here.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Next year, we're about to go to the League.
- 29:26Speaker 3: I know, I'm excited. Thanks for having me, no problem.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Thanks for watching film study presented by Salesforce. I've had
- 29:32Speaker 1: an amazing time breaking down film and seeing what makes
- 29:35Speaker 1: Olivia Miles so special.
