- 0:49It's right on your hosts Dan with me as always Daniel Scott. Trek
- 0:56cast is taped for a live studio audience available in Espanol. We're available.
- 1:04Yeah. I think that's it, right? Did I get everything? I
- 1:07think so? I think so? Yeah, all right, almost as good
- 1:14morning. See you guys doing doing fantastic. How are you guys doing?
- 1:23I'm all right, I'm alright. It's raining here. Oh yeah, I
- 1:27looked outside. I'm scared. Never it's whenever it's raining and I have to
- 1:32do the show. It's like, you know, I feel like everyone expects
- 1:34me to wear sunglasses, so I just wear them anyway. Nice, that's
- 1:41great. I feel like if I don't, people who watched the show like
- 1:44something something's off. I've watched Caster today, but something was off. So
- 1:48we we went to see a musical at our local civic, CHALMSU Civic.
- 1:53We saw the Sound of Music and it was past. It was really it's
- 1:59one of the best musicals I've seen at the at the civic. It was
- 2:01really really good, you know. And I hadn't seen the Sound of Music
- 2:06in a really really long time, Like I don't think I've actually seen it
- 2:10from start to finish since I was probably a teenager, you know. And
- 2:15there was a warning in the in the in the program, uh, and
- 2:20it said, well, I kind of understood this one. Hold on,
- 2:24don't don't get angry yet. Uh. It said, you know the usual
- 2:29there's gonna be missed, you know, like the fog whatever, and there's
- 2:31gonna be Nazis and Nazi paraphernalia. And I didn't really think about it.
- 2:38As soon as the first Nazi showed up, and as soon as the first
- 2:43armband, uh, the Schwastika showed up, I felt a kind of way
- 2:47about it. Yeah, same, I uh it, you know, And
- 2:53the longer he was on the stage, the kind of more that way I
- 2:55felt. And as soon as those you know, is during the like the
- 3:00the scene at the like at the end of the movie or the end of
- 3:02the musical, they've got the Nazi flags hanging down for when they're singing in
- 3:07the show and everything, and you could feel something in the air, like
- 3:13the collective of the entire audience kind of as soon as the next scene change
- 3:19was when they got rid of those symbols, and it was it was you
- 3:22know, you could you know, you feel this you know what that was?
- 3:25That was the collective feeling of people saying, am am, I allowed
- 3:30to enjoy this right? That was the uneasiness of is this is this okay?
- 3:38Am I allowed to to enjoy this imagery? Even though there's nothing wrong
- 3:44with that imagery. It's a story, Daniel, it's a historical it's a
- 3:52historical setting. It's a story that takes place during an actual period of time
- 4:00time that existed. To tell that story and not have that imagery is dishonest.
- 4:08No, it would have been ridiculous if if if there hadn't been Nazi
- 4:12soldiers, and and and the Nazi symbol, and yeah, it would have
- 4:15been absolutely ridiculous. But and and and the point is less about what the
- 4:20choice to use it or not. I think the more of the point of
- 4:24my story is the fact that there was a feeling there, you know,
- 4:29and it was a it was a strong feeling. And you know, my
- 4:33nephews were in that play last year, okay, and same thing here you
- 4:39know in North Idaho, Like you could feel the tension. Sure, it
- 4:43was really weird. Was so it was put on by the local youth Christian
- 4:46theater, Okay. And so like I was asking my nephew afterwards, like
- 4:49where did they get those banners where I'm just curious, right, Like do
- 4:54you just buy them on the internet? Like what I mean, I'm sure
- 4:56you could, but right, but he was like, oh, somebody's grandpa's
- 5:02yeah. Okay, yeah, yeah, okay, But here's so, here's
- 5:08so, here's the thing. Yeah, let's say you're at a yard Salem
- 5:15and somebody's grandpa passed away and they're selling all of his stuff and he and
- 5:21he served in World War two and brought home spoils of war, which was
- 5:27a thing. Yeah, back then okay, and he has a Nazi emblems
- 5:33and he has a dagger, a Nazi dagger with a with a swastika on
- 5:39it. What are you supposed to do with that stuff? Are you supposed
- 5:43to destroy it? No? I don't, absolutely not. You don't destroy
- 5:46history, whether it's good or bad, or whether it's perceived to be good
- 5:47or bad. Okay. So, so then having a play with a historical
- 5:55setting and not making it realistic is the same thing, don't I agree with
- 6:00those things that were there is the same thing. You're destroying history. You're
- 6:04not saying those things were good. This is the way, this is the
- 6:09way it should be. Yeah, okay, And I'm glad I know that.
- 6:13I know that you're not saying that. But I'm getting to the point.
- 6:15I'm getting to the point where enough people think that you should destroy that
- 6:19stuff that regular people are now uncertain how they are supposed to feel and how
- 6:27they are supposed to react when they come into that when they observe that imagery
- 6:32in a totally normal, innocent setting like a place at nineteen Yeah. Well,
- 6:42and I'm thinking too, like, what was it the in enterprise they
- 6:46had those Nazi episodes, didn't they have like a different symbol. I didn't
- 6:50think they had this swasch because no, they did patches. I don't think
- 7:00that was av I'm pretty sure the void. Okay, So here's there was
- 7:03there was a plot. We can plot the shift. Yeah, okay.
- 7:09In T O S they used the swastikas. In Voyager, they used the
- 7:13swastikas. In Enterprise they danced around it. Yeah okay, Yeah, and
- 7:17they used the S S symbols. And in the Captain America films, it
- 7:24wasn't the Nazis, it was Hydra. It was Hydra. Okay, so
- 7:28this is there's always been Hydra in those comic books. Hydra was Yeah,
- 7:32well the Red Skull was a Nazimic. So you're saying they were just trying
- 7:36to avoid the uncomfortableness or they were trying too they're trying to be okay,
- 7:41whatever it was. Here's the degree of change. So I'm plotting. I
- 7:45listed those chronologically in how in how they were released, and I'm showing like
- 7:53this is the progression. You know, my son has probably never seen a
- 7:58swastika. You probably wouldn't know what it was if I put it up in
- 8:03front of him. Likely, Yeah, And that's a problem. No,
- 8:07you're absolutely right. It's a difference between exposing to everything or burying your head
- 8:13in the sand. Yeah, yeah, oh, absolutely absolutely. On a
- 8:18lighter note, after the play, which was there, lighter note, you
- 8:22started this Sunday morning storm. You can deal with it. Michigan won the
- 8:31Big Ten championship yesterday sports It's true. In football. For those of you
- 8:39who are followed, what was the score, go blue? It was twenty
- 8:46twenty seven to zero twenty three D Yeah, I think it was twenty did
- 8:48something like that? Did both teams have fun playing? There was Taylor Swift
- 8:52there? I don't know. I don't think Taylor Swift was there. And
- 8:56I'm pretty sure Iowa did not enjoy their time at goas Oil Stadium. So
- 9:01okay, yeah, I woke up to this boy. I think I think
- 9:07he means the sports talk. I'm pretty sure he means the sports talk.
- 9:11It's better than a nazi talk. Yeah, we're just right out the gate.
- 9:18Well, I saw the new Godzilla movie oh last night. Yeah.
- 9:22I got some words about that. I boy, it was really good.
- 9:26I really liked it. Which one that's not the minus one? Which one
- 9:31is that that? No, it's the minus one. It's a minus one.
- 9:33Okay, yeah, it's the what this one? Godzilla minus one?
- 9:37What is that's the name of new movie. It's in theaters. Okay,
- 9:41why is it called minus one? He's missing his girlfriend? No, no,
- 9:45no. So the premise is that, or the idea is Japan was
- 9:48so destroyed after the war. They were at zero, but then Godzilla attacked,
- 9:54so now they're at minus one. Yeah. So it's a really good
- 9:58movie. It's it's a good metaphor for like survivors, guilt for veterans.
- 10:03Wait, what what are you talking about? Youre talking about World War Two
- 10:05again? Yeah, it takes all place in World War Two. Okay,
- 10:09yeah, so is this outside the the timeline that they've the last few movies.
- 10:15Yeah, yeah, it's it's its own thing. Yeah, it's Godzilla,
- 10:18it's else World's Hill. Okay, yeah I get that. I get
- 10:24Yeah. It was really good, man, like really good, like the
- 10:31Japanese film, right, yeah, so subtitles everywhere, but yeah, I
- 10:37really did get I really recommend it. So okay, all right, well
- 10:43should we get to the news. Say Dan already did the introduction, Yeah,
- 10:48Galaxy Unpredictable stick exactly. We're gonna put this show up for what do
- 10:54podcast get like awards? Like? I mean, yeah, there's the Webbies
- 10:58the Web. I'm gonna nominate us as we should. Oh my lord.
- 11:03All right, let's get to the news Star Trek News all right, and
- 11:13you're gonna tell me. Are you using your your new mouse right now?
- 11:18Yeah? All right, you gotta do something said it's wired? Yes,
- 11:22yeah, unplug it, throw all right in the trash. Oh no,
- 11:31Variety, that's what it sounded like. That's exactly what it sounds like,
- 11:35only not as loud. Okay, Well great, Uh so it's not working
- 11:41when I do this. Well you're not talking right, Okay. So anyways,
- 11:48first story comes from from Variety, and yesterday during the Brazilian Big Comic
- 11:54Book Convention that they're having over there, it was announced we got a we
- 12:00got the release date ish for Star Trek Discovery. It's coming next year and
- 12:05it is coming in April. So cool. So Discovery and Taxes got it?
- 12:11That's all right? When is gonna be dope? Can you rate them
- 12:16for us? The show Taxes? Uh, when Grandma died? Discovery.
- 12:26This might be a spoiler for later when we do all the teer ranking a
- 12:33's gonna wint it at the very tippy top, all right, all right?
- 12:39Cool? And then our next news story comes to us from TV Line.
- 12:43So let me see if I can play this clip for you guys.
- 12:46We're finding out a little bit more about the Orville and what's what's gonna happen
- 12:50with it? Adrian uh I can never pronounce her last name, Paulacky.
- 12:56Yeah, if you was on the Inside You podcast with Michael Rosebob, I
- 13:03actually listened to it. Yeah, So let me play this clip because it's
- 13:07better to hear it from her. You're doing one now and it's you know,
- 13:13it has to deal with space and a ship. No, no longer
- 13:16doing that. That got canceled. We only did three seasons. Is it
- 13:20not going anymore? I don't know truly the answer to that. I think
- 13:24that there's the talk that it could possibly be something that certain people want to
- 13:28do, But it's a really difficult show to shoot, man, it is.
- 13:37So there you go. Is it canceled? Is it not? I
- 13:41guess we'll never really know. It's just gonna go away. She made it
- 13:46sound like it she doesn't want to do it anymore, because it sounds like
- 13:52she's over it, expanding on when she said it's a difficult show to shoot,
- 13:56not just you know, because it's a sci fi a lot of special
- 14:00effect kind of show, but also because of the schedule and and Seth MacFarlane
- 14:05is not from what I understand, he's not difficult to work with. He
- 14:09just demands a lot from you know, everybody around him. And you know,
- 14:13I would imagine it is a very difficult, you know, schedule wise
- 14:16and tech wise and stuff show to shoot, very expensive passion project, right,
- 14:20Like that's right? Right? That was That was Seth Macfarland's love child
- 14:26and his love letter to Star Trek. Yeah. Well, plus, I
- 14:30mean, if you look at the history of things that he has worked on,
- 14:33most of the things he has worked on have been his things, right,
- 14:39you know what I'm saying. It's Seth MacFarland doesn't get cast as an
- 14:41actor in someone else's film, right. He made Ted, He made Ted
- 14:48to He voiced a bear. Yeah, you know, he did the show.
- 14:52Yes, he did a Family Guy, the one to put him on
- 14:56the Math Family Guy. Yeah, still Run Guy. He did Americ Dad.
- 15:00He does half the voices on the shows. So for him to then
- 15:05do another show like like The Orville that he is also acting in. You
- 15:11know, it's Seth's way, or it's well, it's just Seth's way,
- 15:16right, so right, But if you're Seth McFarlane, I guess you can,
- 15:20you know, to a certain extent, kind of do what you want
- 15:24to do. Yeah. Yeah. And if you watch the the trailer for
- 15:28that new Ted show, a bunch of the Orville actors are in it.
- 15:31Yeah yeah, I noticed that Scott Grimes is one of the one of the
- 15:35leads. I like him a lot. I loved him in The Orville.
- 15:41I've said it before, I'm gonna say it again. Those two episodes,
- 15:45uh, the one with the phone where he makes the girl in the hall
- 15:48deck out of the phone, and the follow up to that where he goes
- 15:52you know, he's stuck in the timeline and actually meets up with her.
- 15:54I will rewatch those over and over and over again. And then I was
- 16:00so pleasantly surprised. You ever watch a show that's been out for twenty years
- 16:04but you're like, yeah, I guess I should watch this. I watched
- 16:07Band of Brothers. Yeah, oh yeah, I had no I had no
- 16:12idea he was in it. Yep, I had no idea. So I
- 16:17was very pleasantly surprised to see him again in that. So, I you
- 16:22know, I want to even if they don't bring the Orville back, I
- 16:25want the continuing Inventions Adventures of Gordon. Yeah great. And that episode you
- 16:32just mentioned, the second follow up to the Phone episode. I just rewatched
- 16:37that recently and god so powerful. That made me angry, yes, like
- 16:42for both sides. Yeah, you know, I mean I felt I felt,
- 16:48you know, he making that show. He wanted his audience to feel
- 16:52McFarlane and Grimes wanted their audience to feel angry, and they wanted to feel
- 16:56betrayed, and I felt both those things. Chess visit so right. Scott
- 17:00Drimes was great in Critters. I never saw Critters. You must have been.
- 17:07Yeah, I haven't seen that him. Got to watch Critters. Yeah,
- 17:17that's right. I like, I like. I like Scott pretends that
- 17:22desire is just off camera, like waiting on every word. That's right,
- 17:29she is away, sure, sure, yeah, uh does this hair and
- 17:37makeup? That's right? That's right? Oh you know it? Okay,
- 17:41thank you? There you all right, And our last news story comes up
- 17:47from CBR and Tawny Newsom is talking a little bit about being on Star Trek,
- 17:52and she did say that recently that she is in the writer's room for
- 17:57Star Trek Academy. She has also mentioned that there are what she is calling
- 18:04Cannon cops, and she may or may not be the most stringent about keeping
- 18:11cannon on that show. So I thought that was funny. So what era
- 18:17is that again? It's Discovery or yeah, it's the one they're working on
- 18:22now. Yeah, and then I can't keep I keep hoping we'll get an
- 18:26announcement that they move it to the twenty fifth century, where where everyone wants
- 18:30it to be. M Yeah, everybody does, you're right, yeah.
- 18:38And then she also mentioned that she's more than up for willing to play Mariner
- 18:42again live action. She would love to play Mariner in Star Trek Legacy,
- 18:47but there's no official confirmation that Legacy is going to happen anytime. She could
- 18:52play Mariner in Star Trek Academy if they move it to the twenty fifth century,
- 18:56right, that's right, Yeah, I know she would happen. I
- 19:02know you listen to this show, so absolutely she does. There's three votes,
- 19:07three votes for the twenty fifth century. Yep, Well there you go.
- 19:11And that's all the news stories. Cool, So all right, we'll
- 19:17see you next week. All right, take care, guys. Let's see
- 19:22how this works with my mike, my mouse. Let's try the main topic.
- 19:26Fun will now come out? Is it just me? Or those those
- 19:34audio things a lot louder than we are? I think that's your new setup,
- 19:38okay, because I have not changed the volume on any of them.
- 19:41Okay, yeah, so here we go. We are doing a tier ranking
- 19:48of all the Star Trek series and movies combined. So if you guys don't
- 19:55know, these are tier ranking lists. The idea is you just more or
- 19:59less you rank them all. You have five slots where to put things.
- 20:04From what I understand, according to Wikipedia, this is based off a Japanese
- 20:10style grading system. So like we would do five stars, they do is
- 20:15like supreme and then abc D like typical academic. So is this a template
- 20:23or something? This is a template, yes, okay, because that I
- 20:26watched a YouTube video the other day and they were ranking, they were ranking
- 20:30martial arts systems. Yeah, and this is what it looked like. And
- 20:33now you're telling me this is a this is a Chinese thing, So that
- 20:37kind of Japanese thing Japanese. I'm sorry, kind of that kind of makes
- 20:41sense. Yeah, yeah, there are a ton of these, Like if
- 20:45you go to tearmaker dot com you can find tear makers for literally everything.
- 20:49Apparently these are very fun to do allegedly, so we'll try it all right,
- 20:55Okay, So are the TNG movies each their own thing? Are they?
- 21:00Listen with? Each movie? Each shows its own thing, Each series
- 21:04is its own thing. So we're just kind of going, we've got them
- 21:08all down here below, so we can start with any one of them.
- 21:12Let's start with the short treks and we'll go from there. Are we are?
- 21:17So? Are the episode? Are the series and the movies all mixed
- 21:22in together? Correct? There's no particular order. Okay, They're all just
- 21:26down here and then I can just drop them wherever. That's how it works,
- 21:30gotcha, based off what you guys tell me, you know, gotcha?
- 21:34So if as is supreme? Okay, So I was telling Scott before
- 21:40we got on the air, Dan, my thought is for s tire the
- 21:45tippy Top, we should only have three things on there, either three movies,
- 21:48three three series or three total? Right, so two movies in a
- 21:55series whatever. Okay, the very very Top of Star Trek. There should
- 21:59only be three. Okay, if you will do I go, Now,
- 22:03how does this work? So we're gonna I got I got my three,
- 22:08so I mean, I don't know what we're doing. I got my two.
- 22:11So yeah, let's I've got my three. I've got we'll talk about
- 22:15each one so every and as we as we discuss, things can get Yes,
- 22:21they'll be around and all that. Okay, Yeah, it's fluid,
- 22:23so short tracks. So are we thinking top right of the right, at
- 22:29the bottom, right at the bottom, really right at the bottom. I
- 22:33was gonna not quite at the bottom. I mean, there's some good ones,
- 22:37like the one, the triple one, the one with Spock and number
- 22:40one idea. I think if we're talking about how significant they are in the
- 22:48scheme of Star Trek, Okay, there's only like four or five of them,
- 22:52and only two or three of them are any good. And if you
- 22:56add all that together, we're talking about thirty minutes of of of Star Trek.
- 23:02That's that's meaningful. I mean, even the worst episode of Discovery is
- 23:08twice as long as that. Well, you make up a good point,
- 23:11though, what is this criteria? Is it the most meaningful thing the one
- 23:15that has the most impact or what we think are the most enjoyable to watch.
- 23:18My I had envisioned most enjoyable. Okay, because I agree with that
- 23:22most enjoyable watch. I have never, ever, ever, ever gone back
- 23:27and watched one of those. None of them so and some of them were
- 23:34really good. I mean it was There was the one with with Dwight shrewd
- 23:40As. Yeah that was all right, Yeah, all right, that one.
- 23:42That one was really good, and I watched it, Daniel. If
- 23:47Dan continues to be racalca Trent, can you just go ahead and click him
- 23:52off or mute him? Which big words? That's all right, I got
- 23:56it, don't worry about it. Oh wow, Oh no, okay,
- 24:03I really like that. I drove away, come back there, come back.
- 24:08Oh. I really like the the Triples one I have. I have
- 24:12rewatched that before, but I don't like constantly rewatch it. I've watched it
- 24:17maybe two or three times. I'm trying to remember if I have watched any
- 24:19of the short treks more than one. I don't think I have. Well,
- 24:25you know what, it's fluid. We can move things around as we
- 24:29move it up a notch and I'll just push it down later, I'll leave
- 24:33it. We'll come from there, all right. Next one we will do
- 24:41Star Trek. Which one is this one? Star trek five? Oh?
- 24:45Bottom bottom? Yeah? Put it right next to uh, right next to
- 24:51short trucks. And I'll tell you one of the one of the metrics of
- 24:55why it's should be at the bottom is Okay, I can't remember its full
- 24:59name. Happened the final Frontier? Yeah, I'm gonna tell you. I'm
- 25:03gonna tell you right now why it doesn't belong at the bottom. Okay,
- 25:07I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you right now. It's not the story, it's
- 25:12the character moments. M m. Okay. This is someone where Kirk,
- 25:19Spock and Bones go camping. Yes, and we we realize that these are
- 25:26three co workers who have worked together away from home for the majority of their
- 25:33lives, and once once they have finally have some time off, what do
- 25:38they do? They go on vacation together. Okay, so that's that's that's
- 25:45one character moment. The other one is and I know the story is not
- 25:51that great, but the story gives us some good character moments. Do you
- 25:53remember when Cyback is showing everyone their pain? Mm hmm, Okay, that
- 25:59was the first time we really saw how painful it is for Spock to know
- 26:08that the way his father looks at him. Yeah, that was the one
- 26:14where he witnessed when he witnesses his own birth and sees his father was like
- 26:21almost kind of repulsed by his what he looked like. He's so human,
- 26:27He's so human, and even though he's a vulcan who's not supposed to express
- 26:30emotions, you know, you could tell he was disappointed and ashamed of his
- 26:37own son. And the last one I'll point out is bones when we find
- 26:41out that our favorite doctor euthanized his own father and then they discovered a cure
- 26:52for that illness. It was what was it like six months later or something,
- 26:56And you could see the pain in his eyes and and you know when
- 27:02he's when he's telling Cybock, uh, there's nothing I could do or something,
- 27:10you know, and you could see like he was trying to convince Cybok,
- 27:14but he was really trying to convince himself. You're right. Powerful moment.
- 27:18Those were some powerful, good characters. And the other moment of pain
- 27:23is a horror dancing No that right. No, the other moment of pain,
- 27:30which which I thought had the best line of the of the entire movie
- 27:33was after the prison break and they say it's Gotti, your a miracle worker.
- 27:37And he turns around and he says, then there's no medical about it.
- 27:40I know the ship like the back of the hand and knocks themselves out
- 27:45of the ball. I would like to also apologize to the trek cast audience.
- 27:49Horrible accent. Okay, we're moving this up to see tire then,
- 27:53yeah, that's all right. Movie. Now, let's here with a series
- 27:59enterprise. I liked it. I feel like it's very mid. It is
- 28:06mid yep. I agree. So in the in the end, like how
- 28:12many are going to be on each of these rows? It's whatever we come
- 28:17up with very We've just agreed that the top one is going to be reserved
- 28:21for the top three? Is only everything else? Does that? Yeah?
- 28:23All right, yeah, let's see. All right, let's get this one
- 28:29out of the way. Discovery So, uh is it? I can't see
- 28:33it from here? Is it one through zero or five through zero or whatever?
- 28:37Is there a numbering system? No? Okay, the colors don't make
- 28:41sense to me. I think green should be as for Supreme and then ABCD
- 28:47okay, okay, agreed, so deep I take to speak for Daniel,
- 28:52it should probably be up in the orange category. Yeah, okay, that's
- 28:56where we want it. You agree, right right? Dan? Oh there
- 29:00it goes. Wow for those out for those of you who Dan just left,
- 29:04he left. Now we'll put it out of the d DE Yeah,
- 29:08I agree with that. That's kind of pretty bad. Yeah, let's do
- 29:12Star Trek Beyond one of the movies. D That one was the second best
- 29:19one of the JJ movies. I think the level I think it's I agree
- 29:26with you. Seen it once. I've only seen it once. Beyond is
- 29:29not that bad. Yeah, Beyond isn't that bad. Beyond is on my
- 29:33DVD rack. Yeah, and it still has to cell Phane on it.
- 29:37Okay, it's better than Into Darkness. Yeah, not as good as as
- 29:44two thousand and nine Star Trek. See, and I'm thinking Into Darkness would
- 29:47end up in D. So I'm thinking so yeah, dance And I think
- 29:55Dan has some things to say about here here. Well, here's the thing,
- 29:57here's what I don't want. I don't want to do this ranking.
- 30:00And we have three in S and then we have two and D and everything
- 30:06else is in the middle. I think I think if it's gonna be a
- 30:08fair ranking at the end, there has to kind of If we want to
- 30:12keep Supreme just three, that's fine, but the others we kind of got
- 30:17to equal those those out Like I'm gonna disagree with you. I think it's
- 30:22gonna be more like a bell curve. I think most of it is gonna
- 30:26be average, and then there's gonna be some stinkers, and there's gonna be
- 30:30some ones that reign Supreme, which is most franchises. But that's I mean,
- 30:37I love all Star Trek. I would watch you know, if I
- 30:41had to, I had to watch Star Trek Discovery again, I would watch
- 30:44it again. I'll watch it Darkness again. I've watched I've said Darkness more
- 30:47than once. I've said this before and I'll say it again because it always
- 30:51gets a few laughs. Star Trek is like sex. Even when it's bad,
- 30:55it's still pretty pretty good. Yeah. Uh speak of which, let's
- 30:59go the motion picture. I would I would put it. I would put
- 31:07it as it be really a what Yeah, it's you should be punished by
- 31:15watching the intro to that movie again. I don't have an hour. The
- 31:21show is not that long. The thing that that movie ever did for us
- 31:25was give us the theme to the Next Generation. Yeah, actually it gave
- 31:30us. It gave us most of the special effects shots for The Wrath of
- 31:36Khan because they were So it's an important film because of that. It's it's
- 31:42the first time we saw Star Trek with actual special effects, and you can't
- 31:48just throw that away. Okay, So that makes it important? Does it
- 31:52make it enjoyable to watch? See? That's for this one? Star Trek
- 31:59the Motion Picture? I agree it's important because it was the first original series
- 32:02movie. You know it, But it was just a stinker to watch.
- 32:07It took so long. How many Friday night and chilling out? How many
- 32:13times have you watched it? Scott? Okay, time to be honest,
- 32:19from start to finish, I've probably seen it half a dozen times. Okay,
- 32:22and you still haven't watched to say that's a fair point. But to
- 32:30be honest with you, I only watch it when I'm doing a Star Trek
- 32:32movie marathon and it's one of the movies I have to watch because it's it's
- 32:37the first one, which which means you've done half a dozen Star Trek movie
- 32:40marathons. Yes, still, and you've still never watched to S. I
- 32:45don't know. In my defense, I just finished season one of the original
- 32:50series. Okay, so watch it five more times and then it'll have caught
- 32:54up. Okay, I'm serious saying. I'm serious saying. But I've fel
- 33:00like I've only watched the original the motion picture happened other times by default.
- 33:05It's not a it's not a brief film. If you want to put it
- 33:08in the yellow one, that's fine with me. Yeah, it's okay.
- 33:14Now that's fluid. We can move things around. And I'm gonna tell you
- 33:15when I when I had when my wife and I were dating and I introduced
- 33:20her to all my nerves ship, we watched two, three and four.
- 33:27I did not even I didn't make her watch t o S. I didn't
- 33:30make her watch the motion picture. I started with Wrath of con Okay,
- 33:34and she's a fair woman for it. All right, Let's do start Trek
- 33:38four, the one with whales that's up there. That's that's an A.
- 33:45I feel like that's solid A. Yeah, that's that's not top tier,
- 33:50but that's not top Tierra. Grab Wrath of Khan and put it right above
- 33:54it. Do that. Now, the Lombardo's wrath. The gun, Like
- 34:02I said, it's fluid, we'll move it around. This kind of activity
- 34:06is where you find out who your friends are. That's right. The gun
- 34:09there for now friends, friends for colleagues series, the original series, I
- 34:23feel like that's the man. Uh maybe no, it's not. See you
- 34:30got to give it its props. It's not it's not supreme, right.
- 34:36I can't adjust because I've only seen the first two episodes of season two so
- 34:39far, so you think, really know what it's not good. I think
- 34:46everything else on this list is derivative of that. That's true, but yeah,
- 34:52great to watch. You ahead and try to rewatch the original series.
- 34:58I think it's I mean, I'm read for the people. My wife is
- 35:00suffering for the people. In fact, it's the first. It's it's special
- 35:04because it's the first. It's it's it's not the first Star Trek series we
- 35:08watched together, because we watched some of the newer stuff together, but you
- 35:12know it from the old school stuff. We're experiencing it together for the first
- 35:15time. She's seen a lot of the episodes before she met me, and
- 35:20I've seen a few of the episodes, but for the large part, most
- 35:23of these episodes I've never seen before. Yeah, Bronson's even saying b for
- 35:28for this one. All right, all right, okay, we'll leave it.
- 35:32It's fluid, it's fluid. Let's do this on the card. That
- 35:38one was not very high on my list. I think you can go straight
- 35:45D because that last season was amazing. That last season was amazing, but
- 35:49that was one third of the series. So I think it's a solid C.
- 35:53You guys are oh my god, you and your godda what do you
- 36:00think of Dan? Well, they're not all great, they're not all bad.
- 36:07Noah, all right, leave it, leave it at sea for now,
- 36:10for now again, this is this is this is all fluid. This
- 36:14is fluid. All right? What is this one? Start dragging four?
- 36:21Didn't that the way? We already do that one? Which one is this
- 36:22one? Oh? That's undiscovered country? Well, oh yeah, undiscovered country?
- 36:29If if okay? All right, so put four, put four up
- 36:31in uh in a okay, and leave undiscovered country right where it is.
- 36:37Because that one's great too. Yeah, that one's pretty pretty top. Okay,
- 36:39So for those of us, for those of the audience who aren't watching
- 36:43this, let's let's do a quick audio recap of what what we got going
- 36:49on as far? And you'll have to do it because I'm I'm watching this
- 36:52on my phone, so I can't. Okay. So right out the s
- 36:54here the tippy top, we've got the Wrath of con so a level so
- 37:00kind of just just from the very top, we've got Star Trek four and
- 37:06six, the Whales and Undiscovered Country. Mid level we have Enterprise and the
- 37:10original series C ranking so just barely getting by. We've got Short Treks,
- 37:19Star Trek five, Star Trek Beyond, the Original Motion Picture and Picard.
- 37:23And then in the D level we have Discovery. All right, So in
- 37:28the toilet is Discovery, got it correct? Okay, just just recapping for
- 37:34those at home. Yeah, next the animated series. I haven't watched it,
- 37:38don't have an opinion. If it's half as bad as the original series,
- 37:42and it belongs with the original series or belongs in the d nobody Okay
- 37:47watched it. Yeah, I own it. I've watched two or three episodes
- 37:52of it and it's a slog so okay, someday it's one of those things
- 38:00things where I'm saving it, Yes, someday. Star Trek three, the
- 38:07Search for Spot See one, it gets clumped in with two, three,
- 38:15and four. People watch, you know, The Wrath of Cod The Search
- 38:17for Spot, The Voyage Home. People don't realize that even though it's got
- 38:22some wonderful acting with uh Christopher Lloyd, it's not nearly as good as those
- 38:30other two movies. It isn't There are some good moments in there when David
- 38:35gets murdered. Yes, that was powerful. Shatner does some of his best
- 38:39acting right there. I feel like it makes a B man. Yeah,
- 38:43I think it is a B Yeah, I think I think it's b I.
- 38:46Okay, I I that's fine with me. Okay, let's let's do
- 38:51a good one the next generation. That's number one. Yeah, yeah,
- 38:57I agree, Okay, that's where Star Trek was firing on all ball cylinders.
- 39:02Absolutely, yep, first contact. Put that right up the top.
- 39:07Also, I agree, I agree, put it at the top. That
- 39:13belongs if IF All right, So what the Wrath of Cohn was to t
- 39:20O S that is, to the next generation again, Yes, that was
- 39:25the That is the best example of a TNNG film. And now what about
- 39:32generations general? Good? As for contact, enjoyable? I think it's solid
- 39:39B man, It's not terrible. It's not great, it's it's it's okay.
- 39:45Yeah, I can see the argument for B. Yeah, I rewatch
- 39:47it a lot. Again, there's some there's a lot of good moments in
- 39:51there. The the story, I feel like the story was they sat down
- 39:55in the writer's room. They were like, all right, here's what we
- 39:59gotta wear with Captain Kirk, Captain Picard. Yeah, destroy the Enterprise,
- 40:07d uh, and we want Klingons in there too, and whoop Goldberg is
- 40:12coming back. Yeah, so write a story. What can you do?
- 40:15What can you do? It's also a Star Trek's only Christmas movie. Yes,
- 40:21right, it's true. That's true. I mean it's no die Hard
- 40:22but not quite die Hard. But yeah, because we've established it. A
- 40:28Christmas movie is just a movie that takes place during Christmas, the Christmas scene.
- 40:32That's right. Star Trek Insurrection. Star Trek Insurrection is not a good
- 40:39Star Trek film. It is an excellent two part episode of the Next Generation.
- 40:45Again, I have to agree with I have to agree with Dan.
- 40:47So we think it be are we think can see an argument can be made
- 40:52for either one. I would like to see it in the B column.
- 40:55Yeah, okay, I'm okay with that. But what about Nemesis. I
- 41:02hate Nemesis. I'll watch it. I think it's got some rewatchability, it's
- 41:07got some great scenes. I hate what the director did with it. I
- 41:09can't stand that director. He knew nothing about Star Trek coming in. He
- 41:15had done some action films and knew about that kind of stuff, but he
- 41:19was so ignorant about Star Trek. He was so ignorant about what the fans
- 41:22wanted, and they just didn't. They made some changes in in in the
- 41:30whole franchise that you know, and I'm not just talking about the death of
- 41:34data, which you know, some people argue it was a good thing or
- 41:36a bad thing for the movie. But the way they went about, you
- 41:40know, some of the some of the technical things in the movie I didn't
- 41:44like, like, oh, our long range censors have discovered a positronic signals
- 41:51from where from you can detect that from how far away? It was just
- 41:54there were some great parts of the movie. The Argo was amazing. I
- 41:59love that the all terrain vehicle right that was like finally they need a dune
- 42:07buggy awful. It was. It was like it was I feel like,
- 42:13okay, so I feel like they're sitting down and they're like, all right,
- 42:15Patrick, we really want you to come back for this movie. And
- 42:19he says, you know, I've always wanted to drive a dune buggy.
- 42:23You know, Patrick wants to buggy. Get him a dune buggy. Yes,
- 42:30we're gonna talk to our dune buggy guy. Yeah, we're gonna make
- 42:32it happen. That's actually what they did. They talked to like a professional,
- 42:36like off road vehicle maker. You no, it's a real vehicle.
- 42:42Yeah, yeah, I feel like it's d level man. It's yeah,
- 42:50okay, all right, all right, all right. But again, just
- 42:53like your rule for the top tier, I think our bottom tier should also,
- 42:59you know not there shouldn't be too many stinkers in the bottom row.
- 43:02Well, again, this is all fluid. The end we got into darkness.
- 43:07Darkness begins with D, so put it into the D column. Yeah,
- 43:13darkness and darkness, my old friend. I've got thoughts about that one
- 43:16too. It was bad. It was number one, trying to regurgitate the
- 43:23original series movies with with con and you know the fact, you know that
- 43:31they changed it. I mean they they almost made fun of themselves when they
- 43:36were doing it, because they made it so that Kirk was the one that
- 43:39died and Spot sort of had to you know, endure that. And it
- 43:45was I don't like to use the word derivative because this is all derivative,
- 43:51but it was kind of derivative. Yeah, there was so much about that
- 43:55movie I didn't like, you know, at the end of the towards the
- 43:59end, when you know, young Spot is like, you know what I'm
- 44:01gonna do. I'm gonna call old Spot see what he thinks? What are
- 44:06you doing? Right? Yeah, you can't see that. Come on,
- 44:09Jasper says. It's like the Rise of Skywalker. Yeah, oh yeah,
- 44:15yeah, yeah. It wasn't great Again, I will watch it. Yeah
- 44:20again. The fight scene was fun, was it? There? Like two
- 44:25two skydiving scenes, like two movies in a row. They did the same.
- 44:30In fact, Kirk mentioned that in the film. He's like, yeah,
- 44:34I've kind of already done that before. Yeah. So yeah, yeah,
- 44:39it's like we're gonna do this ridiculous thing, but while we're doing it,
- 44:44we're gonna say how ridiculous it is. You won't be ridiculous. No,
- 44:47in the column right now? Yeah, oh oh you've got something different.
- 44:52Oh okay, darkness Oh yeah, in the dark in the darkness selem
- 44:58Okay, yeah, see oh man again, it's fluid. We'll figure it
- 45:05out. The JJ Star Trek movie the first one I hate. Hold on.
- 45:13I hated it the first time I watched it. Okay, no,
- 45:15let me let me rephrase I. I enjoyed the experience the first time I
- 45:21watched it. But I've got mixed feelings about this. I got a lot
- 45:24of emotions about Star Trek two thousand and nine. Yeah, first of all,
- 45:30I I I missed it in the theaters. Okay. I watched it
- 45:35at an MWR in Iraq, and so it was a tiny screen, a
- 45:38bunch, kind of a noisy situation, but everybody sort of gathered around to
- 45:45watch it, and everybody knew I was a big Star Trek fan, So
- 45:50just the the situation was kind of cool. The way I watched it at
- 45:53the MWR. It stands for Morale Wellness Recreation Area. It's kind of like
- 46:00a place. Yeah, it's like a place you go to play board games
- 46:06and video games and you know, stuff like that. The military, the
- 46:09military has to make an acronym right out of everything. Yeah, they can't
- 46:14just the cineplex, you know. So I had an issue with this movie
- 46:19recounting everything. At first, I I when when Vulcan was destroyed in this
- 46:25movie, I I had feelings about it, and I couldn't quite articulate what
- 46:30they were. So but as I've as I've seen the movie over and over
- 46:35again, I appreciate it more. I think it's really really good. I
- 46:38think that jj Abrams should be commended for what he, you know, for
- 46:45kind of a Star Trek outsider coming in and what he was able to do
- 46:50with the franchise, because really we have JJ Abrams two thousand and nine Star
- 46:53Trek to thank or keeping the flame lit a little bit, the gap between
- 47:00Enterprise and Discovery, keeping that keeping keeping the seat warm a little bit.
- 47:07I think we have him to thank for it. I think it's a fun
- 47:10movie. Man. I like it. I think it's a solid a yeah,
- 47:15you could put it in the day. It is a strange thing.
- 47:20There's a strange phenomenon that this movie has created, at least in my in
- 47:24my head. I don't know if anybody else deals with this, but this
- 47:29is the one that created two timelines, right, yes, both of which
- 47:36continue to have new stories in them. In one of these timelines, the
- 47:42planet Vulcan doesn't exist anymore. In the other timeline, the planet Romulus does
- 47:47not exist anymore. And every once in a while in my head I have
- 47:52to go, wait a minute, hold on which timeline is this? Which
- 47:57planet is? Okay, so are the Romans homeless and this one of the
- 48:00Vulcans homeless in this one? So I still get confused about that. Wait,
- 48:05I have a questiontimes aren't in the Kelvin timeline, aren't both planets gone?
- 48:10No, just no Vulcan? Then why was Nero so pissed because it
- 48:15went away in his timeline? And he was just going to be outraged.
- 48:17That was one of the points that they made. They were they were telling
- 48:21him Romulus is still alive, it's here, it's right, you can go
- 48:23there right now. Yeah, right, But in the Kelvin future, won't
- 48:30Romulus still be gone? But he was going to warn them about it was
- 48:36okay, okay, okay, gotcha, it would have been okay, all
- 48:39right. Yeah, Well, we've never really seen a Kelvin future. We've
- 48:44never seen a Kelvin right, twenty fifth century or twenty fourth I imagine there's
- 48:47comic books and books if you really want to find it that'd be interesting if
- 48:51anybody listening has read those or knows any more information about that, let us
- 48:55know in the like the facecript face group chat, or don't we could just
- 49:00leave it alone. Hey, hey, all right, let's Voyager? Is
- 49:07Voyager really good? It's it's it's up there, you know it's it's part
- 49:14of the original next Gen three if that makes any sense. Yep, you
- 49:19know it's the most rewatched on Netflix when it was on there. It's in
- 49:23my When I made a list of of of shows, of all nine,
- 49:29I guess ten, uh series, it came in number four for me.
- 49:34Yeah, so I'm okay with the second or third tier. I'm okay with
- 49:40A or B like I think if it's either one, fine, I think,
- 49:45yeah, yeah, there's a lot of episodes that I really enjoy from
- 49:49that one. And then our last one d S nine stolid right right up
- 49:54on the top. And then we can argue about which one is going to
- 49:58come out. I think First Contact the one that goes out. Let's see
- 50:01what else what else is there? D n G First Contact Face Steine.
- 50:08Okay, so what maybe we can kind of eliminate by saying do we want
- 50:14one movie, two series? Up there? Do we want one series and
- 50:16two movies up there? What's most what's most re why? But what do
- 50:21we enjoy the most? Before me? Let me, I'm gonna go back
- 50:27and within the individual columns, yeah, like column asked, column or not
- 50:31columns rose? Excuse me? Within the individual rows, are we then putting
- 50:37them in ranking order or they all they're just not three ss? Yeah?
- 50:40Okay, all right, because you know, normally i'd say, okay,
- 50:49take take First Contact out and put it in uh column a or excuse me
- 50:55row a. Yeah, but then you've got Star Trek First Contact right next
- 51:00to Star Trek oh nine. And I don't think that's a fair Yeah,
- 51:06I don't think they're in the same league. See, and I kind of
- 51:12think they are, Yeah, I said it. Then you've also got a
- 51:19Star Trek Voyager in the same in the same row as Star Trek First Contact.
- 51:24Yeah. This is where it gets all when when well, it is
- 51:28dicey because the last four seasons of Star Trek Voyager are all derivative of Star
- 51:36Trek First Contact, the Boorg Queen, all of the nanoprobes and and u
- 51:47Uni Matrix this and Borgs fears and yeah, that's all. Even the costumes
- 51:55were recycled from First Contact. Oh boy, So if you're talking about a
- 52:05true bell curve, Yeah, if you want to pull First Contact and put
- 52:09it in row A, I think you have to drop Voyager down to B
- 52:15with it. I'm fine with that, like I said, And I think
- 52:19you gotta and I think you gotta put Star Trek on nine down there too.
- 52:22Oh I mean I could see it. It's a solid be to B
- 52:29plus twitter put it. Put it there and we'll see how it looks.
- 52:30All right, it looks good. So all right, let's do another.
- 52:34Let's do another audio recaps. All right, we'll start from the bottom up.
- 52:39So in the D tier we have got Star Trek, Discovery, the
- 52:45animated series, and Star Trek Nemesis. This is the lowest. In the
- 52:51Sea tier, we've got five of them. We've got the Short Treks.
- 52:53We've got Star Trek five, We've got Star Trek Beyond Star Trek the Orige
- 53:00Motion Picture, Star Trek Picard, and Star Trek Into Darkness B solid bes.
- 53:07This is our biggest tier. We've got what is it, A bunch
- 53:10of them. We've got Enterprise, we've got the original series. We have
- 53:14two thousand and nine Star Trek, we have the Search re Spock, we
- 53:17have Generations, we have Voyager, and we have Insurrection. In the A
- 53:22tier just above the very best or just below the very best, we've got
- 53:28Star Trek four, we got Star Trek six, and First Contact, and
- 53:34then at the very tippity top at the S tier, we've got our Holy
- 53:38Trinity. So far, we've got the RATHACN TNG and Deep Space nine.
- 53:45Okay, I'm about to throw a monkey into the Where's lower decks and Prodigy?
- 53:52So that's not wasn't on here because of that. I couldn't. I
- 53:55didn't build this and I just realized that as we were making it. Okay,
- 54:02well hold on, Adam, give me a sec. So while he's
- 54:08doing that, Dan, what do you think about the tears? What?
- 54:12What do you think about it so far? What would you what do you
- 54:15feel strongly about that we should change? Let's see mm hmm. So part
- 54:29of my bias is do you have feelings? Well, I I not.
- 54:34I was just gonna say. Part of my bias is that I started becoming
- 54:37a Star Trek fan during the third season of Star Trek the Next Generation,
- 54:42And so that is my era. I I I appreciate that era, those
- 54:47those crew more than I do the original series one. I love Star Trek
- 54:52two. It's a fantastic movie, and it's it's outdated obviously because it's from
- 54:57the eighties. So me personally, I enjoy the Next Generation, Deep Space
- 55:04nine and First Contact the most, and it's probably what I've rewatched the most.
- 55:09Okay, we got Prodigy and we've got lower decks. All right,
- 55:14look before we put those in, let's let's Scott finish his uh yeah,
- 55:17well that's that. We'll let him finish his saw and then I'll tell him
- 55:22why he's wrong, why that's how this show works. That's right. There's
- 55:27Daniel and the third guy is wrong. That's right. So I just you
- 55:31know, Next Generation era is is kind of where I'm at as far as
- 55:36my enjoyability for it. Yes, you know the Star Trek Exchange New Worlds?
- 55:43Was that in there? Oh? No? Oh? Please, man,
- 55:46Holy cow? What are we doing? Hey man? I did not
- 55:51build this thing. I just used it because we should have twenty by my
- 55:54account, we should have twenty three different wow things, well twenty four if
- 56:01we include Yeah. So there's some couple on my list that I'm not including
- 56:07like the the animated series, and I didn't include short Treks, so we
- 56:13should have twenty twenty four at least unless I'm missing one. So just so
- 56:22you know, Scott, and don't don't let your head get too big pondaring
- 56:27this. But when I've seen every episode of TNG multiple times, but when
- 56:35I introduced my wife to it, that's where we started. We started with
- 56:38season three, okay, yeah, so yeah, that's when it got good.
- 56:44I think it's universally accepted that season three is when yeah threw out puberty.
- 56:52So prodigy, I'm thinking solid seat here. Yeah, I can't argue.
- 56:57I guess have you both watched the entire thing. It was like two
- 57:00or three episodes. It's okay. I know a lot of people love it.
- 57:05I don't. It wasn't geared towards us. Yeah, my twelve year
- 57:08old loved it. He thought it was and it's the only Star Trek that
- 57:12he gives a crap about. Okay, lower decks, I'm thinking solid a
- 57:17yep, yep, that's an a. Yeah. Yeah, it's it's very
- 57:22enjoyable. Yeah, I don't think it's the tippy top, but I think
- 57:24it's pretty good. Ye, Strange New Worlds. I would also put that,
- 57:30oh absolutely, ay. Here's where I'll argue we got two seasons of
- 57:35Strange New Worlds. First season fantastic, second season very okay, Yeah it
- 57:39was okay. I would say, be yeah, well, let's put it
- 57:46there and we can let's look at it. We can argue there's your bell
- 57:50curve, right, and where's the well, yeah, where's the Galaxy Quest?
- 57:59It's not on here, Lexie, it's s s okay, super Supreme,
- 58:04super Supreme? Gotcha? As is the orbe right? Yeah? Start
- 58:08galaxy question? And and uh what is that? What's what's the that's just
- 58:14a water show? D S nine or oh SeaQuest sequest? Yeah yeah,
- 58:23Daniel, why don't you go see if the shuttle pot is hiring? What
- 58:28are you talking about? Sea Quest? Are you serious? That's right?
- 58:30Right time? Throw sliders in there? All sliders? Wasn't bad? Oh
- 58:39boy, Paul is not happy with what strange in the world being beatless.
- 58:44Hey man, I don't seasons. Half of them are good, okay,
- 58:50okay, one more quick rundown, just our this is our first uh first
- 58:57run through? Okay, the very bottom We've got star Trek, Disco,
- 59:05the animated series, and Star Trek Nemesis CEA level. We've got the Short
- 59:10Treks, the What is It, the Final Frontier, Star Trek, Beyond
- 59:17Star Trek, the original motion picture, Picard Into Darkness, and Prodigy B
- 59:25level. Here's your mid range. We've got Enterprise, we have the original
- 59:29series, we have two thousand and nine Star Trek, we have the Search
- 59:31for Spot, we have Star Trek, Strange New Worlds, we have Generations,
- 59:37we have Voyager, and we have Insurrection our A level, solid,
- 59:43really good. We've got the Star Trek for the Whales, Voyage Home,
- 59:52Star Trek six, Undiscovered Country, First Contact and Lower Decks, and then
- 59:59our tippy Top. We've got the Rathacon, Next Generation, the Show and
- 1:00:06Deep Space nine. All right, let the hate mail come on in.
- 1:00:10That's rights Battle Star. Wait the old one or the new one? Think?
- 1:00:20Yeah, runs is the strange as the world is. I don't disagree.
- 1:00:25Here's here's here's what I'm thinking. Yeah, I think we should leave
- 1:00:30this the way it is because I'm kind of satisfied with what I don't.
- 1:00:35I don't hate it. We can a few tweaks, but we can do
- 1:00:38uh, we can open up the lines and do our feedback segment. And
- 1:00:45while we're doing feedback listener feedback, if anyone wants to chime in on any
- 1:00:50changes that they think, we will consider them and then disregard them, and
- 1:00:54then we can tell them that they're wrong. Yeah, yeah, exactly,
- 1:01:00yeah, ok, yeah. Oh. Bronson says, first contact is s
- 1:01:06tier. Well I don't know, man, I don't know. Well,
- 1:01:09all right, let's play this the top tier. I agree there, I
- 1:01:14agree, all right, Jaz uses ext I don't. I haven't updated the
- 1:01:20feedback. So whatever I'm putting, the Lincoln Star Traktirs Contact is better than
- 1:01:27Star Trek, the Wrath of Ghn. There I said it. Oh yeah,
- 1:01:35no, buddy, come at me. Let's say no. But but
- 1:01:40this is what there's problems. There's problems with there's problems with first contact.
- 1:01:45Oh yeah, there's problems problems with first contact. And the only reason we
- 1:01:49democrat is this problem. There's problems that I only realized like last week.
- 1:01:55Uh huh, and and now it kind of ruined it a little bit.
- 1:01:59Like how they how they how they land the Phoenix. Yeah, look at
- 1:02:07Scott's face, Look at his head right now, his head is going to
- 1:02:12explode. How did they land the Phoenix? And then now where are they?
- 1:02:15Montana? Yes, central Montana? Right, Okay, I could drive
- 1:02:22there. Okay, so they didn't. They didn't. They didn't land it
- 1:02:24like an Apollo shuttle Apollo. They didn't drop it in the ocean. Maybe
- 1:02:29they did pick up that four meter cockpit. Maybe that detached and and then
- 1:02:36and then they were ready. They were back. They were back at the
- 1:02:40rec center an hour later to have drinks with the Vulcans. What you'd rather
- 1:02:44watch Void? My wife says she would rather Scott will probably kill me,
- 1:02:46But I would rather watch Voyager than Deep Space nine. Also, I like
- 1:02:51Star Trek four best, but the okay, Voyager and d I will put
- 1:02:55the better sign off? You better sign off and go handle that. Yeah,
- 1:03:07we got Jazmin, let's bring him on. Hey Jazz Hello? Yeah,
- 1:03:15I know, Well I turned the lights on, but it's really dark.
- 1:03:17It's really weird, all right. What do you think of the rankings?
- 1:03:21Man? Uh, I would change I probably bumped down lower decks to
- 1:03:27be what, well, it's not finished yet, and you know, I
- 1:03:32thought this last season kind of was lacking, Okay, and I'd probably bump
- 1:03:37it down to be because eight tier is really high for that. I almost
- 1:03:39think. I don't disagree. I mean I went put Voyager up there,
- 1:03:45but I'd almost be close to put Voyager to eightier. So wow, I
- 1:03:50would almost swap those two. Do you just really love coffee? Is that
- 1:03:52what it is? Yeah? Again I don't. I don't disagree. Yeah,
- 1:03:58I mean she killed two Viggs after all, so what that's true?
- 1:04:02That's true? Yeah? Is better than nine? Are on the same level?
- 1:04:11Yeah? Yeah? And then I probably may have under Discovered Country up
- 1:04:15to s tire because I mean that was what would you take out on the
- 1:04:21same level. Undiscovered Country is a better movie than The Wrath of Khan Man.
- 1:04:27Oh wow. The Wrath of Con is a great movie, it really
- 1:04:32is, but it's not the best one out there. Rewatch uh the Undiscovered
- 1:04:39Country. Yeah, I've watched The Undiscovered Country many more times than I have
- 1:04:44The Wrath of Con. No puts Voyager in eightier? What are you talking
- 1:04:53about? Or card? Yeah? Double? Oh my god, I know
- 1:05:00I just went sexist. Wow, But it's not like when you think of
- 1:05:06seven of nine, you're thinking of you know, I think I was implant
- 1:05:17Scott got Tweeter painted when he saw I'm about to get canceled. I'm pretty
- 1:05:26happy with the rankings. Man. Yeah, any other on how much higher
- 1:05:30up would you put a star Trek into Darkness? Jazz biz, I'd probably
- 1:05:35put that in almost tar what into Darkness? It's just he just copy and
- 1:05:42pasted Wrath of con And people who like Into Darkness do they like the story
- 1:05:48of the characters that did like new Tricks. He took an enterprise, made
- 1:05:53it bigger, and painted it black. Okay, basically just took He could
- 1:05:58have put flames on the enterprise. He's threaten to do that at one point.
- 1:06:00Yeah. Yeah, and they killed Captain Pike in there too, So
- 1:06:06yeah, is terrible it is? You could you could if if we're voting
- 1:06:14on moving into Darkness down to level D, I I would agree. I
- 1:06:18think it's horrible. Yeah, it's Yeah. I tried watching that a couple
- 1:06:25of years ago and I just couldn't get into it, and it just kind
- 1:06:29of made me. Parts. Man, I like when I do to the
- 1:06:31Command of the Ship. I mean, there's some good parts. But is
- 1:06:35it a good movie? That's the thing. Well, we also have to
- 1:06:38look at it. Is it Is it as bad as on the level of
- 1:06:42discovery. I don't think so. I think I think it is. I
- 1:06:47think it's every bet is discovery. This chart is an outrage. He's about
- 1:06:55to flip over this digital table. Yeah, I say, beyond better than
- 1:07:02this. Into Darkness so oh absolute together and you know they're the dope kids
- 1:07:11in the back of the class. Yeah. And Star Trek nine, I
- 1:07:15like it. It's good. You know, it's a fun popcorn movie,
- 1:07:18fun action packed, but Into Darkness is just one of those I had my
- 1:07:25hopes up. You know. That's so high that when I saw it,
- 1:07:28I just was so my wife with Paula and the seven of nine was a
- 1:07:31great addition. M hmm, well yeah, the Voyager, Yeah, the
- 1:07:36cats do so how prerogative Brick w B is wanting us to talk about the
- 1:07:45gods? Scott huh, we're losing Scott. Yeah, I I'm looking at
- 1:07:57that. I don't hate this chart right now. I don't hate here.
- 1:08:00I'm like looking, I don't have a glass. Yeah, personally, there's
- 1:08:03things that might change for the show, and just an overall, like,
- 1:08:08here's a guide if you're getting into Star Trek Now, I think this is
- 1:08:10solid guide. You got It's not bad. It's not bad. I love
- 1:08:15it. I might move Boager up. But yeah, it almost put the
- 1:08:18enterprise as a seatier, maybe just because that final episode was pretty bad.
- 1:08:25So well, you know, Halftag Trip is still alive. So yeah,
- 1:08:30yeah, Trip is still alive on that. That's my story. I'm taking
- 1:08:34to it. Yeah. Right. It was like it was just a rust
- 1:08:38to the end, like they didn't get a proper ending, and it really
- 1:08:41made me mad. It's like this show should have a proper ending. I
- 1:08:45mind if Paramount brought back the show for you know, one two hour episode
- 1:08:51or something an hour and a half special, just to give it a proper
- 1:08:55ending. I actually had thought I asked about watching a show. I had
- 1:09:01a thought about AI and how it relates to what what the future might bring
- 1:09:08for for it, I real quick. I have a theory that within twenty
- 1:09:12years we'll be able to talk to our phones or our TVs and say,
- 1:09:18computer, I want to see Star Trek Deep Stace nine, Season eight,
- 1:09:24episode one, And I think that in about and I'm going to say fifteen
- 1:09:30to twenty years, AI will be good enough where we'll be able to it'll
- 1:09:34be able to make a passable episode full production looking episode of Whatever We Want.
- 1:09:44Dan hated my thoughts so much and he decided to Leieve does not agree.
- 1:09:48Yeah, no, I mean, I'm not saying it's a good or
- 1:09:51a bad thing. I'm just saying, you know, if we want to
- 1:09:54watch I don't think well. And the idea came to me during watching the
- 1:10:00Sherlock Holmes episode of Next Generation, when when Data was doing Data and Jordi
- 1:10:06were in the Holidack and they were, you know, doing a Sherlock Holmes
- 1:10:12story. But Data already knew all the Sherlock Holmes, Arthur Glen and Doyle
- 1:10:16stories, so they asked the computer make a new one, and the computer
- 1:10:19was able to make a new one. I think AI, in about fifteen
- 1:10:24to twenty years, I think you're gonna be able to request with parameters an
- 1:10:28episode of Star Trek or whatever you want to and it's gonna be able to
- 1:10:30create a brand new original episode of whatever you want to watch. So,
- 1:10:35if you're looking to watch season six of Enterprise, I think that in fifteen
- 1:10:41years, you're gonna be able to ask AI to produce it for you,
- 1:10:44and you'll be able to watch a forty two minute long episode of season six
- 1:10:49of Enterprise, there's talk of that being able to like that's one of the
- 1:10:54goals. But because the AI algorithms would also know your personal tastes, it
- 1:10:59would be season eight tailored to you. That'd be great. Yeah, that'd
- 1:11:04be great. Literally, I choose your own adventure. I could, you
- 1:11:08know, I mean when when when Dan and I are retired. I think
- 1:11:12that's the gift I'm gonna give him. I say, you know, computer,
- 1:11:15give me an episode of Discovery that Dan is just gonna love another the
- 1:11:21locks On episode? Please? Right? Right? So right? And is
- 1:11:30that a good thing? Do you think the number one? Do you do?
- 1:11:31You agree with me? Uh? And number two? Do you think
- 1:11:34it's a good thing? I agree with you. It's going to happen.
- 1:11:38I think that's you. I think it's a good thing. Yeah, I
- 1:11:41don't think it's a good thing, but I think it's going to happen.
- 1:11:43Okay, I think that's fair. Probably years years years years away from that,
- 1:11:49I don't know, because well, here's the thing. Okay, So
- 1:11:55if you do that, what is the AI using to write that? Right?
- 1:11:59It's looking at other Star Trek and then writing more Star Trek. And
- 1:12:04since it's derivative of Star Trek. Mm hmm. It is Star Trek and
- 1:12:09it's good, and they're gonna owe royalties to the paramount. So what is
- 1:12:14the fee structure going to be like? Or something like that. So if
- 1:12:17you have your own AI doing your own thing for you, do you owe
- 1:12:23royalties? Like if I go to AI and I say, you know,
- 1:12:27showed me a picture of you know, Superman in a Star Trek uniform,
- 1:12:30and it shows me a picture of Superman in a Star Trek uniform, do
- 1:12:34I owe DC and Paramount money? I mean they would say yes, no
- 1:12:43you no, no, no, I'm gonna explain to man how it would
- 1:12:47happen. Yeah, you as the consumer, do not. But here's what's
- 1:12:51going to happen. Paramount is going to sue AI Technology, She's limited or
- 1:13:00whatever who created the program, and they're gonna say, you created a program
- 1:13:05and sold it to the public for the purpose of infringing on other people's intellectual
- 1:13:10property, and that's illegal and because of that you owe damages. Right,
- 1:13:15that's gonna be a big court case years or sooner sooner, probably because it's
- 1:13:23for my own personal consumption, you know, uh does it? It doesn't
- 1:13:29matter it's the next I get it Napster case all over again. Napster sued
- 1:13:32for creating the creating the avenue for which other people infringed on other people's copyrighted
- 1:13:39material. Could I write star directing my own Star Trek that I only watch
- 1:13:44myself? Yes, okay, as long as you don't sell it to anyone?
- 1:13:49All right, Well I'm not going to sell when I say, you
- 1:13:53know, computer make me a Star Trek Enterprise movie called The Return of trip
- 1:14:00Uh, and it's only for my consumption. I'm not gonna share it with
- 1:14:02anybody. Yeah, how do you feel about that? Whoever wrote the AI
- 1:14:12and is allowing it to help you infringe on other people's ip they're going they're
- 1:14:15going to face court challenges. And that's what the question is about intellectual property?
- 1:14:19Who does that belong to? And you know, can you create content
- 1:14:25with that intellectual property even if you're not going to sell it? And Star
- 1:14:29Trek's dealt gone down that road before, you know, with Star Trek,
- 1:14:31Renegade and the other not for profit or supposedly not for profit things. But
- 1:14:36you know, am I allowed to draw a picture of seven of nine and
- 1:14:41just hang it up and enjoy it, of course absolutely. Can I ask
- 1:14:46Ai to draw me a picture of seven of nine, print it out and
- 1:14:49stick it on my wall right now? I can? Yeah, I allowed.
- 1:14:59Now they do AI animating stuff. They can make you know, we've
- 1:15:02got one at the end of our show. Yeah, that's right. Yeah,
- 1:15:09And obviously we're not trying. Okay, maybe maybe I should come about
- 1:15:14shut now right yeah? Yeah. Are there any lawyers in the audience,
- 1:15:24Probably aeramaunic executives. Yeah, yeah, all right, so we're good with
- 1:15:31it the way it is for now. But yeah, oh there's Ray says,
- 1:15:36sh would mind seven of nine on the wall? Okay? Yeah?
- 1:15:48Right behind Scott, God, every man is a twelve year old boy that
- 1:15:57that man is saying, shut your mouth, yeah, shut your mouth.
- 1:16:00So right now I'm listening to myself and I'm gonna shut my mouth. There
- 1:16:05you go. He's gonna get a big cardboard cut out of your bottom.
- 1:16:15Awesome. All right, well, that'd be awesome. Anything else we want
- 1:16:26to bring up before we wrap this up? Now, Scott, I saw
- 1:16:30that sound of music like you said, uh huh, and that part when
- 1:16:36they at the end in the theater, that's the whole theater was silent.
- 1:16:43Yeah, I mean everything is like Dan, It's one of those things.
- 1:16:49You had to be there because it was just like I think it's Yeah,
- 1:16:54it was a shock thing. It was very craepy because I wasn't expecting it,
- 1:16:58yeah, to be like that. I thought, there's have like a
- 1:17:00little flag. I didn't think they're gonna have this huge No, they had.
- 1:17:02They had banners the Calma Civic They've got it's an old, old theater,
- 1:17:08beautiful civil theater in downtown Kalma Zoo. I've seen a lot of performances
- 1:17:12there, uh not all of them get standing ovations, and this one got
- 1:17:15a standing ovation right now. And it was it was a great performance and
- 1:17:20you know, the actors did a great job. But yeah, overall it
- 1:17:24was a fantastics experience. So yeah, I thought this summer, I was
- 1:17:29like, holy crap. That was shocking and a really good play. And
- 1:17:31then and now was it put on by a like a civic theater or the
- 1:17:39Oklahoma City Cool And it was crazy because they you know, it was all
- 1:17:45teared up and they had like a banner that dropped all the way down that
- 1:17:48Okay, that was huge. It was like, holy crap. I wasn't
- 1:17:53expecting it. I thought they didn't have a flags here and there, and
- 1:17:57I didn't think they're gonna have Yeah, and the whole theater was just like
- 1:18:01very silent, creepy. So okay, but it's it was good. Good.
- 1:18:11You got to see it, Dan, I've seen it. Yeah,
- 1:18:14I've seen it. That ship. He was a musical guy. I used
- 1:18:25to not be a musical guy either. I didn't really like them. But
- 1:18:29there's so much fun. They are so much fun. They're even better jazz
- 1:18:34z if you're loaded on and tonic, you know, everything great. Yeah,
- 1:18:42yeah, I was like, yeah, because our theater, you can
- 1:18:45pre bud your alcohol for halftime, you know, during intermission. So I'm
- 1:18:49half to Wow, I'd be like I want and I'll have to stand in
- 1:18:54line at halftime and then I got my drink right here and I'm ready to
- 1:18:57go. Let's go. So that's funny alcohol that can help? All right?
- 1:19:09Oh boy, three and a half hours okay, yeah, all right,
- 1:19:18So are we going to post this list? And yeah, yeah,
- 1:19:20we'll post it. Well, I'll post it a few days, let people
- 1:19:24listen to the show first, and then a fewtter i'll post the list and
- 1:19:27then you're gonna get hate now bring on. Probably that's from the Discovery fans,
- 1:19:31that's right fans, and yeah, Nemesis, Yeah, all right,
- 1:19:40bring on. And this has been fun. I really enjoyed this. Yeah,
- 1:19:45it was a lot of fun. Doing These kind of lists are always
- 1:19:47you know, there are a lot of fun to put together. There's always
- 1:19:49a lot of controversy, there's always a lot of you know, fake hate
- 1:19:55and uh you know, yeah, no, that's right, all right.
- 1:20:01I want to ask you guys, which, maybe have you guys seen the
- 1:20:04most which movie hands down? First? Context well up in the air between
- 1:20:12First Contact and the other Undiscovered Country, because I used to watch yes,
- 1:20:17well see that Discovered Country was on HBO on repeat forever, so I watched
- 1:20:23that one the most. And then Star Trek five because that was the one
- 1:20:28before it on HBO, So I watched five probably more times than any of
- 1:20:32them combined. So to remember, back in the day, a movie would
- 1:20:38come out on VHS for rent, you couldn't you couldn't usually bite in the
- 1:20:43store, right. It would be available for rental for a little while first,
- 1:20:48or it would be available for purchase, but it would it would be
- 1:20:51expensive. And then the price would drop once it had been rented for a
- 1:20:55while. So in nineteen ninety six, when First Contact first came out on
- 1:21:00home video, I rented it. And at the time I was working Lost
- 1:21:06Prevention in a clothing store, so we had industrial VCRs in there. One
- 1:21:13of the things, yeah, for Lost previntionis could do shut up. One
- 1:21:27of the things that we could do that you couldn't do at home is we
- 1:21:30could make nearly perfect copies of VHS tapes. So I made one one single
- 1:21:38copy of First Contact, not so I could sell it, but so I
- 1:21:42could watch it over and over and over and over again. And I did.
- 1:21:45I wore that thing out, So that is that is the only reason
- 1:21:49that that is my most watched three copies of of of that movie of Star
- 1:21:57Trek, First Contact. I probably have it on BHS, I've got it
- 1:22:00DVD, and I got it on Blue Ray. Okay, yeah, my
- 1:22:01most watch is two thousand and nine. But that's because it is my go
- 1:22:05to movie when I'm sick. So like if I'm like high on cold medicine
- 1:22:10and just zoning out, I throw that on because I don't really have to
- 1:22:14pay attention. I know the movie well enough and bright colors and explosions and
- 1:22:17all that. So yeah, got it. So watch watch that one if
- 1:22:23you're high, that's right. Yeah, okay, yeah countries. That's my
- 1:22:28go to you. So there you go. That's all time favorite. So
- 1:22:31yeah it's a good one. Yeah all right, yep, that's it.
- 1:22:38Well, thanks everybody for listening. I don't know, we'll talk about if
