- 1:01want to get it on next, I guess? Hi, Joe, 6 '2".
- 1:05I'm happy to be here. Yeah, this is crazy. It's
- 1:10a Saturday. Usually we're gathering. on Tuesday
- 1:13nights after he's worked like 10 hours and we've
- 1:16all worked multiple hours, but now we're kind
- 1:19of loopy. A lot of energy. A lot of energy. Joe,
- 1:23did you have adult beverages during the movie?
- 1:26No, no, no. I'm just like this. Sugary drinks.
- 1:29So he had some sugary drinks. Fair enough. Happy
- 1:32to be here talking about movies. And then obviously
- 1:34our other co -host for Fast Laps, Mike. Hello.
- 1:37I'm here again. Is here again. I'm excited to
- 1:39talk about the movie. I have lots of things to
- 1:41talk about. Lots of things. So fun fact, Joe
- 1:43and Mike have literally just walked out of the
- 1:45movie like an hour ago. True. They have literally
- 1:47just watched it. Kev saw it late last night.
- 1:50out about two hours before kev so we're all fresh
- 1:53it's fresh in in the movie um should we transition
- 1:56kev we certainly let's just throw one in there
- 1:58yeah transition here we go into f1 movie review
- 2:02boom and to start our f1 movie review um do not
- 2:18just exit out right now if you do not want any
- 2:21spoilers come back to us though please but but
- 2:23just shut it down right now because there will
- 2:25be spoilers in this next bit um plenty of so
- 2:29uh anyway before we get started i have randomly
- 2:33purchased a tops 2024 uh tops chrome uh blaster
- 2:39box boys so nothing as we know 2024 isn't crazy
- 2:43because it is literally all the drivers from
- 2:45last year but look out for videos this fall because
- 2:48i've told kev and it's gonna happen i will be
- 2:50buying 2025 tops chrome hobby box or boxes uh
- 2:55to open on the show so we're excited about that
- 2:57with what how many rookies we had this year five
- 3:00Five and a half. Pretty close. Yeah. And so there
- 3:03could be some wild stuff in there. So that'll
- 3:05be exciting. So it's just going to go crazy.
- 3:06So everybody up here is about to open pack. Let's
- 3:08just do it at one time. All right. Right now.
- 3:11Yeah. Just do it. Just try to open it. Same time.
- 3:14One at a time. See what we get. Open it. It's
- 3:16already gone. Here we go. It's already gone.
- 3:18Just see what you got in there. See if there's
- 3:20anything crazy. Future stars. For the record,
- 3:22most people on the show here have not ripped
- 3:24cards open. I knew I smelled Dutch in here. Oh,
- 3:30I got Senna. That's kind of crazy. There's a
- 3:31Max for Sap and for... Hey, there's an Alpine
- 3:34for you. I got a Martinez Stens Horn. Speaking
- 3:39of rookies, Fernando. My favorite rookie. Got
- 3:42a Gabby Bortoletto. Oh, nice. That's actually
- 3:44super cool. Oh, my God. Hang on. I also got a
- 3:47Gabby Bortoletto. Oh, there you go. Oh, yeah,
- 3:49look at that. I think I got, like, a super fancy
- 3:51foil one. Show the camera, Mike. Show the camera
- 3:53there. It's kind of hard to see, obviously, but
- 3:55you can get a little bit of a glimpse of it.
- 3:56Oh, hold on a minute. Hold on a minute. We've
- 3:58got to pause the show for a quick second and
- 4:00give us over to Smelty here. Joe, you want to
- 4:02pass it to our good friend, Ty? Oh, do we get
- 4:04a Gasly here? We do get a Gasly. Look at Gasly.
- 4:06What a great shot, too. cool card. Yeah, helmet
- 4:09collection too. Oh, that's awesome. I don't have
- 4:11one of those yet. I got sleeves and top layers
- 4:13for you. There's a sweet Nico Hulkenberg 1954
- 4:16for you. That's actually awesome. Yeah, you can
- 4:19keep that. I love Nico Hulkenberg. That's my
- 4:21boy. I did not pull anything else too crazy.
- 4:23You can give this one to Joe. He'll want this
- 4:24one. Joe, your favorite driver. Grand Prix driver
- 4:29of the day. Belgian Grand Prix 2023. Max Verstappen.
- 4:32Wow, where's your shirt? That can go with your
- 4:34shirt. Put your shirt on. You can get that framed.
- 4:37Like a Flavor Flame necklace. Put that on. This
- 4:39can literally go with what he's wearing right
- 4:41now. Oh, look. K -Head car shot. Love those pics.
- 4:44Yeah, the Kevin Sinatra. We got a Lando car shot.
- 4:48Lando Norris. Yep. Lando Norris. We got the Gabby
- 4:52Bortoletto future stars. Nice. That's pretty
- 4:54cool. It's a little sweet looking card. Yeah.
- 4:56We got an F2 future stars of Maria Marti. For
- 4:59F2. Oh, okay. And then we got our Charles Leclerc.
- 5:02Is that a driver of the day card? It is a driver
- 5:04of the day card. Okay. Driver of the day Formula
- 5:061 Las Vegas Grand Prix 2023. I also grabbed,
- 5:09looks like I have a Future Stars Kimi. In here,
- 5:13which is pretty cool. Oh, wow. Nice. There we
- 5:15go. That's pretty nice. Just base card. Nothing
- 5:17crazy. I think the Gabby's base, too. But we
- 5:20got we got two current drivers. That's pretty
- 5:22sweet. F2 cards for future stars. Yeah, that's
- 5:25kind of cool. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. Since this
- 5:28is last year's cards. So that's sweet. That's
- 5:30a fun little bit here. Yeah. Just random little.
- 5:33Yeah. What do you got? Both the kicks out. I
- 5:35got your favorite driver. I got Max. I got a
- 5:38Tommy Smith F3. I got a... Martinez sends Horn
- 5:44F3, and then I got a Legends Ayrton Senna card.
- 5:47Ooh. Okay. That's pretty sweet. Sweet. Feel free
- 5:50to keep whatever you pulled, Joe. Wow, look at
- 5:52that. Same with Kev. I just maybe, maybe. He's
- 5:58into it now. He's going to get into it. Yep.
- 5:59I'm telling you, you guys will really enjoy when
- 6:01we pull that 2025 hobby box. Hopefully, we can
- 6:05get our hands on some. We certainly can. Because
- 6:07I feel like this is going to be a tougher year
- 6:08to get your hands on some. Well, because there's
- 6:10so many more rookies this season. For sure. biggest
- 6:12thing obviously you go for sports cards you go
- 6:14for sure i think it's gonna be a big hit 100
- 6:17i can't wait um well so since we're here for
- 6:20the f1 movie now to get into this sorry to sidebar
- 6:23there with everybody up here but um what i want
- 6:26to know is your first reaction to the movie using
- 6:29a maximum of five words maximum of five words
- 6:33uh who wants to go first i can go first go do
- 6:38it uh so minus four words uh the music was awesome
- 6:42The music was awesome. The soundtrack was great.
- 6:45Hans Zimmer. Hans Zimmer, yes. So I went to school
- 6:47for music production, audio engineering, hence
- 6:49why I do all this stuff in the background. I
- 6:51was very, very keen to the music that they played
- 6:53in it, and I thought just overall the score was
- 6:55fantastic. The timing of the score. Yes, the
- 6:58music that they played in it was really good,
- 6:59but also I think the big thing that was kind
- 7:00of fun that they didn't even really broadcast
- 7:02was the Ed Sheeran song in the credits, which
- 7:03was kind of cool. So they played it, of course,
- 7:06on TV or whatever, not the TV, but on the screen
- 7:08after in the credits, but they didn't announce
- 7:10that, hey. Ed Sheeran's making a song for this
- 7:12movie until after it came out, which that I think
- 7:15is just kind of a little, I guess, egg of wonderfulness
- 7:19at the end of the movie. Right. Which is kind
- 7:20of cool because they could have previewed that
- 7:22and like broadcast and advertise that pretty
- 7:24heavily. Like Ed Sheeran's making a song for
- 7:26the movie. You got to go check it out. Well,
- 7:27they didn't say a word from my understanding.
- 7:28And so you saw it. So that's pretty cool. Okay.
- 7:32But the music did its part in my thought, in
- 7:33my mind. Yeah. No. Awesome. Music was good. No,
- 7:36I'm glad we got your take on that because, yeah,
- 7:38audio guy. So it makes sense. It makes sense.
- 7:40You got to fit the bill. Do you like the sound
- 7:42design just in general as well? What's that?
- 7:43Just like the sound design. It was cool. Yeah,
- 7:46and we went to like the big fancy movie theaters,
- 7:48whatever. So you definitely have like a surround
- 7:49sound and stuff like that. And I thought a lot
- 7:50of, you know, our transition is the and it goes
- 7:53across the screen there, the audio. I heard a
- 7:55lot of like different kind of surrounding audio
- 7:57bits in there. And I thought it was just really
- 7:59solid overall. But, yeah, Hans Zimmer was just
- 8:01a gangster. Yeah, he's good. He didn't disappoint
- 8:03by any means. He's good, that one. Yep. That
- 8:05one is good. Yes. So it was overall, it was a
- 8:08really good movie. I think it was fantastic.
- 8:10Awesome. Joe, what do you got? Oh, man. To me,
- 8:13I don't know. I feel like I kind of want to go
- 8:15last. You can go last. All right. Hey, nobody's
- 8:18requested to go last yet. So yeah, you're last.
- 8:19Go, Mike. Yeah. So I got four words. Actually
- 8:23fun. Surprisingly consistent. all right that
- 8:27was i was pleasantly surprised surprisingly consistent
- 8:30surprisingly consistent with f1 with what we
- 8:32would expect to see out of f1 um yeah there was
- 8:35i was expecting to see more like i just watched
- 8:38the gran turismo movie not too long ago and i
- 8:40was just so tired of being like okay yeah it's
- 8:42another buzzer beater yeah we win by less than
- 8:45a tenth of every single race and that just wasn't
- 8:48the case in this movie and i really liked that
- 8:49so And there were also other things, but, like,
- 8:52we'll get into some more of that stuff, I assume.
- 8:54Oh, yeah, for sure. Nitpicks that we can do.
- 8:56Yeah, for sure. So since Joe's going last, for
- 8:59me, I also have, like, four words, I think, and
- 9:03just, like, it was very Hollywood, you know?
- 9:06Yeah, it was very Hollywood. I'm not, like, hating
- 9:08the movie. Like, will I buy it when it comes
- 9:10out on Blu -ray? Yeah, when it goes on sale,
- 9:11probably. To add it to my Blu -ray collection.
- 9:15Yeah, right, right, right, right. Straight to
- 9:16DVD. But it's, you know, it was a great movie.
- 9:20you know there's a lot of Hollywood bits in it
- 9:22a lot of good like you said consistent f1 bits
- 9:25in it and we'll touch on all those and then a
- 9:27lot of stuff that made me go I don't know so
- 9:30um yeah anyway Joe wrap wrap us up yeah I mean
- 9:34I'm using all five words and I pretty much mimic
- 9:36I think everyone here fun and only a little sorry
- 9:40fun and only slightly frustrating It's slightly
- 9:43frustrating. It's just a lot of syllables. That's
- 9:49a lot of noise. Your Honor, five words. Yeah,
- 9:52for sure. I think, yeah, I mean, it was, you
- 9:54know, I think exactly, you know, it's meant for
- 9:57people who aren't, like, maybe super deep into
- 9:58it. But, like, I also, there are some call -outs,
- 10:01like, they did a really good job in some areas,
- 10:03I think. Yeah. But I wouldn't, like, if someone
- 10:07lived and breathed that one, I could see why
- 10:08they might, like, not find it as interesting.
- 10:10But I think for a movie for the masses, I thought
- 10:12it was fun. I think it could make for a good,
- 10:15like, for lack of a better word, gateway drug
- 10:17into Formula One for a lot of new fans. It has
- 10:21a BTS effect, kind of. Yeah, because I know a
- 10:24friend of mine. I get the wrong idea, though.
- 10:26Yes. Yeah, there's some points that I could,
- 10:28yeah. But like I've got a friend of mine who
- 10:30he has no interest in Formula One. And I was
- 10:33talking to him about the movie and he's like,
- 10:35he's like, oh, it's got Brad Pitt. It's made
- 10:37by the guy who made Maverick Top Gun. It's got
- 10:39Hans Zimmer. He's like, this is probably a good
- 10:41movie. I might actually go watch this. And like
- 10:43it could be like his introduction and be like,
- 10:45wow, F1 is kind of cool. Maybe I'll maybe I'll
- 10:47catch a weekend or something, you know, and like.
- 10:50I think it's a good movie for that. For sure.
- 10:52I also think it's smart that they released the
- 10:55movie on a race weekend as well. Just really
- 10:58trying to get after it. Like, oh, I just went
- 11:01and saw the movie because technically I think
- 11:02it came out on Wednesday for the early super
- 11:04duper early screenings. Then Thursday was kind
- 11:06of like the pre -screenings. And then now Friday
- 11:08is when it actually came out. The real release.
- 11:10Yep. So this morning, everyone's like, you might
- 11:13have seen the movie yesterday. And now qualifying
- 11:15is on at 9 a .m. yep 10 a .m whatever time it
- 11:18was maybe noon or whatever uh i think it's definitely
- 11:20a good opportunity for a gateway drug like my
- 11:22wife she went with me as well yesterday she's
- 11:25on an f1 person but she actually enjoyed it she's
- 11:27like i'm not like a car person that was kind
- 11:28of fun to watch yeah like for sure that's cool
- 11:30and coming from her she doesn't care yeah that
- 11:32was her bit shout out to my wife erica who supports
- 11:35the show um her thing was Brad Pitt still got
- 11:38it. He's still hot. That's the only thing she
- 11:40really cared about. But the fact that she was
- 11:42cool to watch the movie on top of that was good.
- 11:49Yeah, hold on. We'll get into that. Funny enough,
- 11:52I got something to tie into that. Did I just
- 11:55spoil something? I'm sorry. No, not at all. Not
- 11:57at all. Spoilers. I think so. We're not going
- 12:00to make this show super long, right? We're going
- 12:01to get you guys out of here. But we want to fill
- 12:04your brain with our knowledge on the F1 movie
- 12:07as fast as possible. But I think let's start
- 12:10with anything you disliked first. We'll end it
- 12:14with the like, because I think generally. Are
- 12:17we in a general consensus? It wasn't bad, right?
- 12:19I actually really liked it. It was a good watch.
- 12:21Yeah, 100%. Worth the money of admission at a
- 12:24theater. All right, all right. Yeah. So let's
- 12:28start with dislikes first. If there's anything
- 12:31somebody needs to get off their chest immediately,
- 12:33I get that. These two are staring at each other.
- 12:37We're going to let them go. It was so funny because
- 12:39we were sitting next to each other. My roommate
- 12:41was also there with us, and we're watching, and
- 12:43it was at the end at Abu Dhabi. and Alex Pierce
- 12:47was in front of Lewis Hamilton, right? And they
- 12:51showed us an overhead shot of Lewis coming up
- 12:54on Alex with his DRS open. And I was like, Joshua
- 12:59Pierce. Or Joshua Pierce. Yeah, sorry, it's Joshua
- 13:01Pierce. Yeah, because it's JP. Yeah, I don't
- 13:03know why I kept thinking his name is Alex. You
- 13:05guys have known him for like three minutes. Yeah,
- 13:07maybe. I'm just so excited. Yeah, sorry. Yeah,
- 13:09Joshua Pierce. Yeah, so Joshua Pierce's DRS was
- 13:11open when Lewis was behind him, and Joshua Pierce
- 13:15was in first. so the moment we saw that overhead
- 13:18shot joe and i looked at each other like did
- 13:20you see you saw that yeah okay and my roommate
- 13:24like noticed our gesture he's like what not i
- 13:26like leaned over i was like josh's drs was open
- 13:29when he's in first so that was one thing that
- 13:33like i feel like most people wouldn't notice
- 13:36that unless you're sure like avidly in the sport
- 13:38so and then and then like joe mentioned earlier
- 13:41unless you're like a really into racing in general
- 13:44but then f1 more specifically like there's gonna
- 13:47be things that you know just didn't didn't feel
- 13:50right to you like for me it was apex gp the team
- 13:55yeah essentially almost feeling like they never
- 13:57got penalized for for any of the stuff they were
- 14:01pulling so They did once, but it seemed like
- 14:05they didn't really make a big deal of it. They
- 14:06just started from the back. They always were
- 14:08starting towards the back, so I guess you could
- 14:10make some argument saying that the reason why
- 14:12they were always in the back was because they
- 14:14were getting great place penalties for penalties
- 14:16that they had. They just never made a mention
- 14:18of it like, hey, Brad Pitt or Sonny, which is
- 14:24true. We did never see qualifying. That was one
- 14:26of my quarrels I was going to mention was we
- 14:28never saw practice or quality. That was one of
- 14:30the things I was going to mention. For sure.
- 14:32Well, we did see a practice lap by Sonny. In
- 14:35the very beginning. And crashing and then still
- 14:39getting the job in F1, which is another one of
- 14:42my things. It's like, how realistic would it
- 14:45actually be that a team is going to pull a driver
- 14:48into F1 that hasn't raced an F1 car in three
- 14:51decades is what they said. So in 30 years, he
- 14:53hasn't raced an F1 car. we got nine we got nine
- 14:57races left come on but i get the storyline of
- 15:00like that's like they're desperate they need
- 15:03some sort of spark right so i get that but i
- 15:06think actually that's not too unbelievable because
- 15:08when you think about it kimmy antonelli's first
- 15:10fp1 practice he crashed sure sure so and that
- 15:14was when he was out testing with the kimmy hasn't
- 15:17not been an f1 car in three decades well sure
- 15:19he's alive for three decades like new new to
- 15:22the seat new like sure basically fresh yeah like
- 15:26at a certain point you're like yeah he crashed
- 15:28but he was fast yeah like for sure so i guess
- 15:31i can kind of overlook that a little bit fair
- 15:34enough um uh yeah my biggest keep no you're good
- 15:38you're good because i only got a couple more
- 15:40i got you no yeah my biggest issue was pretty
- 15:42much like mimics what your issue was uh i didn't
- 15:45love the arc of like like the pretty much the
- 15:49first act was or the second act ish was just
- 15:52sunny hayes being a menace like on the grid and
- 15:56that's how they got ahead i'm really i'm really
- 15:59happy that they didn't do that throughout the
- 16:00entire movie because it would just be like oh
- 16:02so it just kind of feels like a joke right like
- 16:04you can go a little bit mess everyone up and
- 16:06then um you know getaway scott free i didn't
- 16:09love that there were a lot you're right there
- 16:11were not very many consequences seen until we
- 16:14just didn't see until later in the movie when
- 16:16when like there was an fia representative and
- 16:18they were like like like what do you mean like
- 16:20you cause trouble all the time right so like
- 16:22it was nice seeing that there are a little bit
- 16:24of repercussions but we didn't see it in the
- 16:25moment so it just felt like oh like anyone can
- 16:28just kind of do this it's like very much like
- 16:29dramatized hollywood yeah for sure and like and
- 16:32like immediately i was like oh he'd get a black
- 16:34flag on that first race there's just no way him
- 16:37keep racing like he's consistently crashing yeah
- 16:40it's so that was like my biggest gripe but i
- 16:42think in the overarching story of the movie i
- 16:44think i probably like His, like, the character,
- 16:48he's, like, the gambling type. You know, he kind
- 16:50of, like, takes these, like, really big risks
- 16:52and has, like, a grander plan. Which is how he
- 16:53raced throughout the movie. He's, like, oceans
- 16:5511 -ing his own race a little bit. I was going
- 16:57to bring that up, too. Like, it's so funny. Weird.
- 16:59He's back in Vegas again. He's got a gambling
- 17:01problem. So, like, I guess, like, to his story,
- 17:04like, okay, sure, but, like, you know, the consequences
- 17:06would have been so severe in real life, so I'll
- 17:08just kind of, like, you know, move it off, I
- 17:10guess. But I think that was, like, yeah, the
- 17:11biggest issue I had was just, like, I was watching
- 17:13the movie, and I'm, like, I'm, like, this is
- 17:15like it's like fun to see this i guess like so
- 17:18many consequences from this would would come
- 17:21up right and i agree with you i think it is a
- 17:23gateway drug essentially so that is my only concern
- 17:26with it being a gateway drug is now they can
- 17:27watch an actual f1 race and be like wait why
- 17:30did he just crash like they're gonna watch like
- 17:33a race like japan this year and i'm gonna be
- 17:35like i just watched two hours of nothing right
- 17:37right right my my thing with like the crashing
- 17:39that i had thought when all that was happening
- 17:41was not so much like oh well where are the black
- 17:43flags how are the fia letting that happen i was
- 17:45like isn't apex about to go broke how can they
- 17:48afford this many wins like they can't afford
- 17:50this much damage like they can't just be letting
- 17:52him go out and trash tires and trash wins and
- 17:56and like i'm like that That doesn't seem right.
- 17:59Those wings are expensive. Well, they showed
- 18:01the guy, was it 3 ,000 pounds per wing or 2 ,000
- 18:05pounds? 200 ,000 something. I think he said 200
- 18:07,000. I think what I've heard is that wings are
- 18:10like $150 ,000. Which is insanity. Just for the
- 18:14front wing. Yeah. But you can buy a crashed one
- 18:17for like a thousand bucks from F1 Authentics.
- 18:19You can. You certainly can. You're getting a
- 18:21deal. They don't need the crashed ones anymore.
- 18:24Yeah. Right. Right. No, that's why they sell
- 18:26them. That's why there's that side pod that you
- 18:28keep sending me. Go get it. I don't remember
- 18:31who it is. What were they called before Alpine?
- 18:34Renault? Renault? What? No. Before that, even.
- 18:36BWT. BWT, yeah, it was BWT. And there's a side
- 18:40pod in the marketplace. Force One. Yeah, India
- 18:41Force. Oh, you're talking, no, Force One, it
- 18:44went Force One into Alpha, or into Aston Martin.
- 18:50Yeah, but BWT was Force One. BWT, yeah, BWT was
- 18:55for Aston Martin and his whole team, yeah. Kev,
- 18:58do you got any dislikes, Kev? The main one was
- 19:02just, like, no qualifying. Yeah, like quality
- 19:04is such a huge impact on the race weekend. It's
- 19:07literally almost a time trial. You know, they're
- 19:09sending it. And especially if Sonny is trying
- 19:11to kind of prove his, I guess, ability. Yeah,
- 19:15his worth or his ability to still make it in
- 19:18the sport. And then obviously with JP trying
- 19:20to. be able to still drive and you know be able
- 19:23to compare against him i love that you're just
- 19:24calling him jp too that's pretty sweet yeah i
- 19:27gave everybody a nickname so it's pretty cool
- 19:28to me um but yeah they just didn't show any practice
- 19:30or any qualifying at all which i thought was
- 19:32a really big miss in my opinion like yes okay
- 19:34cool wait a minute the first race weekend you
- 19:36guys are both in dead last okay got it next one
- 19:39still last What did we miss? How are we getting
- 19:42there? How are we here? Yeah, yeah. Right? For
- 19:43sure. Just a little bit more explanation, whether
- 19:45it's penalties or just sucking at qualifying.
- 19:48I think it's just car performance. Until these
- 19:50magic... What's the floor? What do they call
- 19:58them? Fins or whatever? Side pods? No. Underbody?
- 20:00No. The floor? Floor something. They call them
- 20:03the floor something. Yeah, until those came on.
- 20:05Ground effects? Yeah, ground effects. Oh, no.
- 20:07I can't remember. Whatever. My thing, too, for
- 20:10the qualifying, though, is that if you're going
- 20:12to do such a terrible job in qualifying and end
- 20:14up dead last in the race to start it, how are
- 20:16you going to then just go and finish in, like,
- 20:17top 10 or whatever in the race? Just like with...
- 20:21You didn't change anything from the qualifying
- 20:22in theory. So then we can assume it's penalties
- 20:25that put them back there, right? There's a way
- 20:27to kind of get there, but it's just weird. You
- 20:29have to come up with that yourself in order to
- 20:30convince yourself that, yeah, they're starting
- 20:33in the back because of this or whatever. So I've
- 20:35got a question based on that. We take two seconds.
- 20:37The movie was two and a half hours. Was it really?
- 20:40Yes. The little screen outside of the theater
- 20:42said two hours, 35 or two hours, 30 minutes runtime.
- 20:45Didn't feel long. It didn't feel that long at
- 20:47all, for sure. But once you realize that you
- 20:49get out of the theater at 1 .15, it's kind of
- 20:51a late movie. Do you guys think it was appropriately
- 20:55lengthed? Or do you think it could have been
- 20:59or should have been longer in the efforts to
- 21:02maybe show some practice or quality? It's the
- 21:04length of an F1 race. You know, that's actually
- 21:07a good point. Probably why he cooked. You know,
- 21:13I was not going to make that argument, but that's
- 21:16a good point. I think it's perfectly the length
- 21:19is fine. I don't think it should be shorter.
- 21:21I don't think it should be longer. I think it's
- 21:23supposed to be about two hours is the average.
- 21:25It's probably not two and a half. No, that's
- 21:27good. Like, I don't know. So close, though. Either
- 21:29way. For me, I wouldn't have minded it to be
- 21:32a little bit longer if you threw in some of that
- 21:33a little bit more technical stuff with the practice
- 21:35or the qualifying. But do you think the general
- 21:37fan using it as a gateway drug would enjoy that?
- 21:40Probably not. You know what I mean? I think they
- 21:42should have had at least one or two qualifying
- 21:44shootouts. Just show the qualifying happening.
- 21:48Show the process. We don't need to see all of
- 21:50free practice or anything like that. That's pretty
- 21:53dry anyways. But at least seeing qualifying and
- 21:57show that tension of like, oh, we need to. go
- 21:59out there we really need to put up a good time
- 22:01crap we didn't do it we're starting from the
- 22:03back of the grid right like entire strategy for
- 22:05qualifying or whatever like there's a lot of
- 22:07strategy which came into play in the movie right
- 22:10that's what i'm saying that was something that
- 22:11they brought up is like they should have showed
- 22:13us at least qualifying for abu dhabi because
- 22:15that would have been like a nice little like
- 22:16sowing the seeds for that last scene where it's
- 22:18like oh the safety car happened we've got an
- 22:21extra pair of softs that The front runners don't.
- 22:23Yeah. So they kind of just toss that in. They
- 22:26just kind of tossed it in, which was a cool.
- 22:28I liked that a lot. I was like, this is like
- 22:31that is a real strategy. We saw it from Charles
- 22:33Leclerc in Monaco. Yeah. So until JP took out
- 22:36Lewis. Yeah, it was a little awkward. Spoiler.
- 22:40Well, and then get something like didn't even
- 22:42play it off that it could have been an accident.
- 22:44You know, I mean, this is. Well, I think it was
- 22:45an accident. He's just he's just happy that one
- 22:48of them are winning. Right. Yeah. I don't think.
- 22:52So I did have the thought of like, we're not
- 22:54seeing any qualifying. I don't know if it. bothered
- 22:56me per se i think it would have been nice to
- 22:59you're right see at least one qualifying or just
- 23:01have somebody say we're not qualifying in these
- 23:03races so we have to do the work in the race like
- 23:06even that line alone would have like immediately
- 23:09been okay with me yep um like you didn't like
- 23:12brought up and like yeah we didn't do great exactly
- 23:13or you know whatever the issue was or a penalty
- 23:16in qualifying whatever right this is where we
- 23:17start it's like a little just something they
- 23:19just wanted like as much wheel to wheel as they
- 23:22could get which is just it's just hollywood it's
- 23:23hollywood um but In terms of length, I'm very
- 23:27happy. I don't think it should have been any
- 23:28longer. I'm surprised it was two and a half hours
- 23:30because it felt like it went by pretty well.
- 23:32It paced very well. I usually have issues with
- 23:35movies pacing, and I don't think this paced poorly.
- 23:37Yeah, no, it just stayed on track the whole time.
- 23:40There was never a moment where I was like, this
- 23:42is dull right now. But again, we're racing fans,
- 23:45so we want to know everything that's in between.
- 23:48And it didn't play too heavy into the freaking
- 23:51love story, which I was a little bit worried
- 23:53about for any of you that are... Or possibly.
- 23:56uh war fans out there you guys are not but i
- 23:58there's this movie called pearl harbor that came
- 24:01out in 2001 oh yeah and they played way too heavy
- 24:03into the love story for me than the actual event
- 24:06so i was a little worried that that could get
- 24:08caught up and it really didn't there was just
- 24:10enough and then they both got it in at one point
- 24:13anyway but the night before race is wild but
- 24:15there's studies behind you you shouldn't do that
- 24:18from my understanding you did remind me of one
- 24:20thing that i did spot while i was watching the
- 24:22movie in las vegas the night before the race
- 24:25The drivers were out drinking. They're not allowed
- 24:28to do that. That's against protocol. I was like,
- 24:31why are you guys out drinking? He was drinking
- 24:33a Heineken and it could have been a 0 .0. They
- 24:35are hugely zero Heinekens. So that is possible.
- 24:38Fair. I mean, it's just one of those things,
- 24:41though. And the manager was telling JP he's like...
- 24:45Also, yeah, the technical engineer made a comment
- 24:50about drinking tequila is a bad idea. JP and
- 24:53his manager went out to a... a dance club whatever
- 24:57right where the manager was very clearly drinking
- 25:00the manager can drink he's not driving but he
- 25:03was gonna offer jp the drink he was yeah it was
- 25:05like it's like why would you as a manager put
- 25:07your driver into that position i was like sitting
- 25:09here seeing this like you're not supposed to
- 25:11be drinking right now you know honestly i'm gonna
- 25:13take your license if that's the biggest thing
- 25:15you had an issue i'm not saying it is the biggest
- 25:17thing but if that's the thing you had an issue
- 25:18with pretty decent No, no, no, no, no. So that
- 25:27leads me into... I was just going to say one
- 25:30last thing. The qualifying bit, you're right.
- 25:33We know that they're not qualifying well because
- 25:35they're so far back because we have that insider
- 25:37baseball knowledge. The normal person, you're
- 25:39right. They might not understand why are they
- 25:41always starting in the back. So I just want to
- 25:44give you that point as well. You're totally right.
- 25:45I'll put that in the bank there. Joe gave me
- 25:47a point. I got him. I just said too small. I
- 25:51mean, and again, these are really small dislikes.
- 25:54Not a big deal. Go for it. So you mentioned Brad
- 25:57Pitt already. Oh, boy. And the show's over. Thanks,
- 26:00guys. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no. And I don't hate
- 26:03Brad Pitt. He did a great job, I think. I think
- 26:04so. I think he did a pretty good job representing
- 26:07this character. But the dude is 61. And now don't
- 26:13get me wrong. He looked like 51. Let's, let's
- 26:15be real. You know what I mean? Like you don't
- 26:16really look like he's in the sixties, you know,
- 26:18but like the oldest, uh, driver to ever win an
- 26:21F1 race was 53 years old. So that bugs me pushing
- 26:25the lens on that as again, like, uh, You know
- 26:29what I mean? It just bugs me a little bit. And
- 26:31I didn't know that off the top of my freaking
- 26:33head. I wouldn't look that up last night. Because
- 26:35I was curious. After I found out Brad Pitt was
- 26:3761, I was like, A, I didn't think he was that
- 26:39old. But B, I was like, okay, so that just bugs
- 26:41me a little bit. But it's not, again, him looking
- 26:4351. He probably looked just like that guy. To
- 26:46your defense, too, they literally said that his
- 26:48big crash with Ayrton Senna was in 1993. Right.
- 26:53And so he had to have been, like, what? Let's
- 26:56say he was young at the time. He was in his 20s.
- 26:59Let's just say he was 20 at the time of that
- 27:01crash. This is happening in 2022, 2023, somewhere
- 27:04in that time frame. That means there's a 30 -year
- 27:07gap. between when he crashed he's in his mid
- 27:10-50s yeah he's in his mid -50s driving i'm like
- 27:13not even alonzo's that old right and alonzo comes
- 27:16up and fist bumps him and then i love just catching
- 27:18strays right now though poor guy yeah no i'm
- 27:21not he's my favorite he did a great job um and
- 27:24then there's only one other thing that's kind
- 27:26of funny the whole combat chant thing where they
- 27:29started oh yeah i thought that was lame as a
- 27:32yeah super cheesy that was stupid i get they
- 27:35wouldn't do this i get the point behind it because
- 27:37it's the hollywood thing though i know but then
- 27:40like everybody in the team room and then back
- 27:42at like hq or whatever and then everybody i'm
- 27:45like well then jp's just like really though are
- 27:47we really doing this i feel like the i feel like
- 27:49the technicians back at back in england would
- 27:51be looking like Just grimacing, like, this is
- 27:54kind of cringe, right? I would think so. So anyway,
- 27:57that was my only other small squabble. So again,
- 28:00if that's what it is, pretty good movie. I had
- 28:03one other little point. I thought it was kind
- 28:07of comical that Lewis Hamilton produced the movie,
- 28:10and he was in first at the end. That was just
- 28:13like, oh, I thought it makes a big difference.
- 28:15And like the only way that Lewis didn't win was
- 28:17being taken out by a rookie. I thought it was
- 28:19just kind of funny. Oh, man. I'm not looking
- 28:23too much into it, but I just thought it was kind
- 28:24of comical in that sense. I don't think I think.
- 28:28I don't think he probably had any say over it.
- 28:31They probably had him fighting that battle because
- 28:33it was reminiscent of his title fight with Max
- 28:37Verstappen. What's the point that I was going
- 28:40to say? Oh, I dislike the trope that I'm seeing
- 28:42a lot where it's like, oh, they lost this race
- 28:45or they had the opportunity to win this race
- 28:47because someone else crashed. I'm seeing it all
- 28:50the time in these kind of F1 shorts. You guys
- 28:53haven't played this, and I don't know if you
- 28:54will, and this is a spoiler for the F1 25 game.
- 28:57now but it happened a couple of times in break
- 29:00the latest breaking point and start installation
- 29:02where someone crashed and other people got an
- 29:04opportunity it's like okay so we're just kind
- 29:06of banking on people crashing at that point so
- 29:08yeah yeah i kind of feel you there Anything good?
- 29:11No. I just opened the last two. Nothing crazy.
- 29:16When I was watching that, the last race in Abu
- 29:19Dhabi, I was like, oh, a red flag in Abu Dhabi
- 29:24and a shootout for the last couple laps with
- 29:27Lewis Hamilton in second. Boy, this feels very
- 29:29reminiscent. I'm like, this is almost eerily
- 29:33reminiscent. And another thing, actually, while
- 29:36I'm on this kind of rant, when they crashed i
- 29:40don't i don't know if it was actually jp's fault
- 29:42that they crashed they were both really close
- 29:44together it could have been either way it was
- 29:46an incident whatever they crashed but the whole
- 29:48like he's flying moment i didn't like that either
- 29:51at the end at the end it was like he's flying
- 29:54it's like that was cheesy i do like it though
- 29:57because there was a bit of the backstory behind
- 29:58it where he was kind of going through his own
- 30:00like connected yes it connected to the start
- 30:02of the movie which is always good in a movie
- 30:05that they connected it but i just think it was
- 30:07stupid it was cheesy yeah my one of the things
- 30:10too i kept thinking he was gonna wreck well that
- 30:12was during the flying moment he's gonna wreck
- 30:14and die or something that was i thought they
- 30:16were gonna play more into an injury because he
- 30:17didn't get out of the car during that red flag
- 30:19everybody else got out of the car and you could
- 30:21tell he was hurting yeah i thought they were
- 30:23gonna play his vision kept getting blurry exactly
- 30:25i thought they were gonna play more into the
- 30:26injury and more into like how it was going and
- 30:29then i thought that was gonna take him out the
- 30:31ending definitely surprised me i will not lie
- 30:33granted it is a hollywood movie it has to be
- 30:35something sort of dramatic or whatever at the
- 30:37end but i didn't expect it to be that and then
- 30:39i definitely audibly gasped when that happened
- 30:41and he just drives to freaking what california
- 30:43or whatever and yeah it's a baja does a baja
- 30:45yeah baja race is i can't afford to pay money
- 30:47yeah what is it about smelty all right i don't
- 30:51know fade out fade out all right should i do
- 30:55that right uh likes likes what did we like about
- 30:58the movie i think there's plenty um i can lead
- 31:01us off if that's okay do it whatever yeah all
- 31:03right well i just i this is something called
- 31:05out i really enjoyed that they played into the
- 31:08dirty air kind of concept and how they're fighting
- 31:10against it i think that actually might have been
- 31:12like a problem that that the that the drivers
- 31:14that when they watch it that might have been
- 31:16the problem they had with it because it's so
- 31:17unrealistic but i i liked that they brought that
- 31:19in because we know how big of an issue it is
- 31:22like in today's f1 races dirty air is just it's
- 31:25like like you can't overtake with it it's really
- 31:27hard so i like that they played into that being
- 31:29strong point and them being more aggressive behind
- 31:32someone instead of you know taking you know fastest
- 31:35on straights and stuff like that so that's kind
- 31:37of like the biggest thing i think i liked from
- 31:39it for sure I'm just reading my notes. There's
- 31:43a funny one here. Gunther leaning back and staring
- 31:45down. Didn't you flip him off at the end? Didn't
- 31:48Casper flip off Gunther at the very end of the
- 31:50movie? I thought that was comedy. My wife even
- 31:51started dying. Just the look on Gunther's face
- 31:55just cracked me up. I think he only did it twice
- 31:59where he leaned back. Something that Gunther
- 32:01used to do all the time at Racist 2. He'd always
- 32:04lean out the back and look like, what is this
- 32:07guy doing? He's kind of mean mugging people.
- 32:11I love how it was shot during real Grand Prix.
- 32:15Yes. I think that's just like. You can fake it
- 32:19all you want, but it was nice to have real teams,
- 32:22real team members walking around. Cameos everywhere.
- 32:26Papa Stroll walking down the pit. I got Roscoe
- 32:30in there. Here's the credits fun fact. I thought
- 32:34it was kind of interesting too that Brad Pitt
- 32:36did an interview and he was like, we only had
- 32:37two takes before the race began. We could not
- 32:41mess this up. I think I said that to you Tyler.
- 32:45There was a lot of, yes, CGI, maybe some kind
- 32:47of funny chopping, editing things up with the
- 32:50DRS bit you mentioned before. Probably wasn't
- 32:52from that part or whatever. It didn't fit in
- 32:54the movie in that aspect. But I think they had
- 32:56to really make it work with what they had. F1
- 32:58race weekends are very, very time sensitive.
- 33:00For sure. I think the amount of production that
- 33:03went into this needs to be mentioned. Obviously,
- 33:04Lewis Hamilton being the producer of it. had
- 33:07probably the golden ticket to literally anything
- 33:09yep but i think it's worth mentioning just like
- 33:11they probably didn't have the ability to continuously
- 33:14redo over and over and over different takes and
- 33:16stuff like that no you're 100 right i think it's
- 33:19a good point no for sure um what do you got what
- 33:23did you like um i liked a lot of the character
- 33:27building i was not expecting to like the character
- 33:29building as much as i did i really liked i really
- 33:31liked jp some of my favorite characters are characters
- 33:34who i hate at the start of a story and love at
- 33:36the end because they just grow so much and that
- 33:38was jp i really liked his uh his character arc
- 33:41that he went through how he started as this really
- 33:42cocky young gun kind of reminiscent of yuki in
- 33:45a way of just like i'm the big dog here and i'm
- 33:49gonna make a big name for myself and then got
- 33:52humbled and then very quickly started turning
- 33:54things around i really liked that scene of him
- 33:55going through in the simulator like constantly
- 33:58trying to take the same line like i know i didn't
- 34:00mess up and constantly getting humbled like that
- 34:02was so cool and i love i love writing like that
- 34:04so that was that was a cool part yeah um i don't
- 34:09know i like that this is just another jerry bruckheimer
- 34:12you know situation and i like A ridiculous amount
- 34:16of his movies, unfortunately. Let's see. I like
- 34:21that it's kind of our first modern day F1 movie.
- 34:25We got Drive to Survive, and we've had other
- 34:28movies that have been released, but about older
- 34:31drivers. So it's kind of nice to see the modern
- 34:33again kind of being a gateway drug, hopefully
- 34:36to gain more popularity in the sport. Well, to
- 34:40that point, is there an opportunity for a second
- 34:42movie? Not with the same character. I actually.
- 34:45Unless maybe JP. That's what I'm saying. Right.
- 34:47Because they the whole ending of it was him being
- 34:49able to keep the team and it's around for a few
- 34:51more years. Right. Is there an opportunity for
- 34:54a second one? And. I think yes. Will it happen
- 34:58or should it happen? What would be the storyline?
- 35:00That's a great question. I mean, a similar thing.
- 35:02You know, the young rookie is now a seasoned
- 35:04veteran. He's got a handful of seasons under
- 35:06his belt and now he teaches some other punk.
- 35:08It's just, it's the typical rookie. You pretty
- 35:10much set our pitch. We were talking about it
- 35:12right after the movie. We were talking about
- 35:14it as we walked out that I actually would love
- 35:16to see another movie where, where. Sonny Hayes
- 35:19comes back, but now he's too old to drive and
- 35:22he knows it. So he's going to take that opportunity
- 35:23as team principal. He's going to take over Apex,
- 35:26over JP, who JP already has that trust for him
- 35:31as a team manager. And then they'll have a new
- 35:34rookie who JP gets to be the one to teach him.
- 35:37As opposed to our drama in this movie where all
- 35:40the drama was, you know, we're trying to fight
- 35:42our way from the back to get our first ever win.
- 35:45This time it's a, we're a front running team.
- 35:47We're trying to win a championship. We won constructors
- 35:49last year and we're trying to do it again this
- 35:51year. Gotta keep it up. And like, and instead
- 35:53of the drama being we're fighting the rest of
- 35:55the field, it would be the drivers fighting each
- 35:57other. And that would be our sense of drama in
- 35:59the movie is, you know, teaching the newbie and
- 36:01like the drivers fighting each other and your
- 36:03biggest competition is your teammates type thing.
- 36:06Something that we kind of already see happening
- 36:08in our current F1 season. I think it has all
- 36:11the makings to be a really bad sequel, so I hope
- 36:13they don't make a second one. Sounds great to
- 36:14me. I love Shrek 2. Hey, you're saying Shrek
- 36:172 is a bad movie? Excuse you? Come on, man. I
- 36:21like Shrek 2. I agree. I agree. I think they
- 36:24have the... The door's open. I think they definitely
- 36:27have the standing, or rather the structure to
- 36:30make a second one. I hope there's more F1 media,
- 36:35movies, entertainment in the future. I think
- 36:38a sequel of this would be... bad unfortunately
- 36:41probably i think they just need to make something
- 36:43new Different storyline. Maybe follow one of
- 36:46the modern day drivers. That'd be cool. Like
- 36:48they have in the past with Rush or Senna. It's
- 36:53going to be Lewis Hamilton. It could be Lewis.
- 36:56I was just thinking about it. Lewis Hamilton
- 36:58would be really good. Max would unfortunately
- 37:00be very good. I'm trying to think. Fortunately,
- 37:04because he's his favorite driver. Speaking of
- 37:05the things that we liked, I love that scene where
- 37:10Sonny was holding up Max and Max finally gets
- 37:12by. And as he goes, he flips him the bird. That
- 37:15was classic. God, that was so funny. And so Max
- 37:18Verstappen. I love it. Because I think the commentators
- 37:22in the movie were even like, oh, and he gets
- 37:24a little bit from Max Verstappen. And that's
- 37:26to be expected or something. I liked how they
- 37:31used some real moments of F1 history in the movie.
- 37:34Like the 2008 -09, wherever it was. Renault team
- 37:38that kind of got caught. Yeah. You know, sabotaging
- 37:42the race or fixing a race, essentially, which
- 37:44is why Flavia was suspended indefinitely anyway,
- 37:47or lifetime ban is the words they used. And then
- 37:51the 2019 F3 crash of Alex Perani, which is the
- 37:56car flying through the air. Oh, yeah. Well, that
- 37:58actually happened because I. I didn't know that,
- 38:00and I didn't believe that that crash, like, that's
- 38:03not real, right? This car's flying at Mach Jesus,
- 38:06right? So, of course, if it hits a pebble or
- 38:08something, or in this case was a bump, you know,
- 38:11and the car flies like that, well, that actually
- 38:12happened. It just didn't explode at the end of
- 38:14it like it did. That's not Hollywood. It was
- 38:17kind of like, well, it was kind of like a mix
- 38:18between the Pirani crash and the Grosjean. Yeah.
- 38:22car split in half situation uh so so that was
- 38:25i know we were talking about this a little bit
- 38:27before we started recording that like the big
- 38:30fireball i was like whoa okay that's super hollywood
- 38:32because like the crash happening makes total
- 38:35sense but like the fireball there's no way it
- 38:37should have ever ignited because the whole reason
- 38:39that like roman grosjean's car started on fire
- 38:42and exploded like it did was because he hit a
- 38:45metal beam. It tore open his gas tank and because
- 38:48it was metal on metal, it was creating sparks
- 38:50and some of those sparks got into the gas tank
- 38:52and it ignited the gas tank while we see JP hit
- 38:55trees. And then it's sitting there for like a
- 38:58second. Which burns. Come on. Got him. I'm an
- 39:04idiot. Get him out. Get him out. The only other
- 39:11thing I had down was what I did like is the Hollywood
- 39:14drama. Dramatization. Dramatization. Dramatization.
- 39:19There's a T in there. That's a big word. Anyway.
- 39:22You know what I mean? You know what I mean? You
- 39:23know what I mean? You know what I'm talking about.
- 39:24It's a Saturday. You know what I mean? Is it?
- 39:28I like how they showed kind of the pressure of
- 39:32all the team members, you know, and how much
- 39:33pressure they're kind of under a little bit.
- 39:35They didn't play into it a lot, but there was
- 39:36moments like the. the lug nut girl yeah yeah
- 39:41you know yeah mechanic and then like even even
- 39:44uh what's her name the girl that gets with with
- 39:47brad pitt like even her job you know what i mean
- 39:49director it's nice to see a little bit of the
- 39:53pressure that they are actually under in real
- 39:55life really like any moment can ruin the race
- 39:59you know so i don't know i kind of like that
- 40:01a little bit for sure i'm giving them a little
- 40:03bit of love that they probably never get but
- 40:06other than that great flick I'm glad I saw it
- 40:11in a theater again, for sure. I wish I would
- 40:13have saw it in the theater that you saw it in.
- 40:15The screen's going up the wall, too. It would
- 40:18have been pretty immersive. I was about to say,
- 40:22good movie. I don't know if I'd watch it again,
- 40:24but I think I will watch it again to not get
- 40:26that experience, just because I want to see how
- 40:28different it feels. When you buy it on Blu -ray,
- 40:31you're going to see it at the house. It's just
- 40:32going to be streaming service. I joked with my
- 40:35wife before we went to go see the movie. We just
- 40:37say, screw it, and wait a month. for it to come
- 40:39out on Blu -ray or Netflix or something? Or do
- 40:41we go and actually see it in theaters? I'm like,
- 40:42well, we were going to do this. We saw it in
- 40:44theater. But it was like, I kind of haven't seen
- 40:46a movie in a theater in a long time. And I thought
- 40:48it was kind of a cool experience. But also, like
- 40:50you said, the ScreenX. Shout out to Marcus Theaters.
- 40:53ScreenX is pretty cool. I think the ScreenX made
- 40:57it a cool environment. I know the movie was filmed,
- 40:59I believe, for IMAX. And shout out to you guys.
- 41:01You said the IMAX in Minnesota sucks. So I didn't
- 41:04go and find the IMAX at all. I just did the ScreenX.
- 41:07It was fine. I thought it was really cool. In
- 41:09IMAX, it was fine. Oh, you saw it in IMAX? Yeah,
- 41:11it was fine. These guys are saying the IMAX in
- 41:13the cities is just awful. It's just not real
- 41:14IMAX. That's it. Did you go to IMAX? No, it's
- 41:18not real. Unless I'm watching it at the science
- 41:22museum, it feels not real. They used to. That
- 41:24shut down some years ago. I thought they brought
- 41:26it back. Said they. But I do remember showing
- 41:28it now. But anyway. Anyway. Don't get me started
- 41:31on anything, because I'll just ramble. So you
- 41:34got the Rotten Tomatoes pulled up. I'm kind of
- 41:35curious. Because we've got to give an audience.
- 41:37I was just going to ask that. And I have this,
- 41:41so I'll go last. So I want your guys' opinions.
- 41:44We'll just go around the table then, Kev. I'm
- 41:46thinking out of 10, 8 .5 to 9. Like 8 .75 if
- 41:49we're going like day one. We've got to be exact
- 41:51here, buddy. Are there decimals to the rating?
- 41:55Or is that a percentage? It's a percentage. Give
- 41:57a percentage. 87 and a half. Okay. That does
- 42:04convert. It's Saturday. I don't have to do this
- 42:07math. Thank you. No math, no spelling, no saying
- 42:11big words. A percentage, I'll give a 69%. Nice.
- 42:16I think if we were giving it out of 10, I'd say
- 42:19probably around 7, so 69 % is just fun. Fair
- 42:22enough. That's kind of right where I was at.
- 42:23I picked 73, actually, as soon as Kev said his.
- 42:27Yeah, yeah. reasons that we've already talked
- 42:29about so it was good it was good good hollywood
- 42:32movie i again like i'm glad i paid the money
- 42:34for it you know i'd watch it i will watch it
- 42:37again when i own it on blu -ray to add to my
- 42:39collection because it's a modern f1 movie and
- 42:41i want it to sit on my shelf in my little hangout
- 42:43area do you want to give your rating so my my
- 42:47opinion would probably be somewhere between an
- 42:4980 to 85 percent i like it i think it's good
- 42:51yeah it was good Yeah, so I think it's good.
- 42:56Rotten Tomatoes is saying currently. Second day
- 43:01release. Second day release. The Tomatometer,
- 43:04so this is for reviewers, gave it an 83%. Okay,
- 43:08nice. And the Popcorn Meter, so for regular fans,
- 43:1297%. Pretty good. I mean, 83 is pretty high,
- 43:16too. 83 is pretty high, too. Right out of the
- 43:17gate. Yeah, so being received pretty darn well.
- 43:21I'm pretty impressed. Awesome. I will say, I
- 43:24think that has to do with the production value
- 43:25that Lewis added to this movie. Yes. 100%. I
- 43:28think he played a massive role. I don't think
- 43:30it gets anywhere near that. It's probably mid
- 43:32-50s if he isn't in this. Well, in the video
- 43:34you sent me, I think, they brought Lewis in before
- 43:36Brad Pitt even got off and pitched it. Yes. The
- 43:41producers and the directors and whatnot brought
- 43:42Lewis Hamilton in, being like, if we're going
- 43:44to make this, we need to do this right. And he
- 43:46is the way to do this right. Obviously, there's
- 43:48other people that could have been involved, but
- 43:49I think he expressed some interest in doing it.
- 43:50And obviously, his involvement made it as seriously
- 43:54accurate as it was, but also gave him access.
- 43:57Yeah. there was talks and like those interviews
- 44:00that i saw like the the national anthem in the
- 44:02last race right yep they're at they're standing
- 44:05there literally they're literally recording it
- 44:07during the anthem yes so like there's a lot of
- 44:10stuff that like had just a normal regular hollywood
- 44:13production studio reached out and said hey can
- 44:14we do this yeah maybe they would have but i think
- 44:17they opened the floodgates for the real ability
- 44:20to do this and i think the score is and when
- 44:21you have a seven -time world champion i mean
- 44:24they even said that he knows what he's talking
- 44:25about you know what i mean so no i thought that
- 44:27definitely added i did love that they had way
- 44:30more racing scenes than i thought there was going
- 44:32to be too i was a little worried that There'd
- 44:33be way too much, which I like tech spec stuff,
- 44:37but I figured there might be way too much of
- 44:38that. I think there was just enough, just enough
- 44:41racing scenes, if not more than I had anticipated,
- 44:43which I don't know, for me, helped me keep, stay
- 44:46glued. Keep your locks in. Yeah, for sure. Yeah,
- 44:50I was just a little worried about that, but yeah,
- 44:52no, they succeeded there. Racing scenes were
- 44:53dope in ScreenX, not gonna lie. It was really
- 44:55cool. I would imagine. I got a little bit, like,
- 44:57not queasy, but a little bit off, a little uneasy
- 44:59when it was like the helmet cam. Yeah, that was
- 45:03pretty cool. It was a really cool shot. Those
- 45:05cameras were filmed with Apple cameras. Did you
- 45:07know that? Apple, what do you mean, like an iPhone?
- 45:09Essentially. Essentially, though. It was almost
- 45:12similar cameras out of the iPhone 15 or 16 or
- 45:15whatever for the TV podcams. Oh, yeah. Those
- 45:19are Apple cameras. I mean, the camera technology
- 45:20today is not so good. And those are F2 cars that
- 45:22they were racing, which was designed to carry
- 45:24the camera. I will say the front -on view of
- 45:29the car, they look like F2 cars. i don't think
- 45:31anyone would anyone outside of our world would
- 45:33know that paint job i think and if you're looking
- 45:37at it from like a side view or if you're looking
- 45:38in among other cars it actually looks pretty
- 45:40much like a f1 car just that it looks so skinny
- 45:43when you're like for sure yeah oh yeah that's
- 45:45i know i noticed that right away too i was like
- 45:47boy their body is so skinny or their nose is
- 45:50so skinny but again as a I'll also say, I think
- 45:53the pops that they gave, like the exhaust, definitely
- 45:56not like it happens in F1, but not as much as
- 45:59that. That's also a quintessential F2 car, too.
- 46:03They do that a lot there. So I'm sure that maybe
- 46:05the car was doing that until they needed to add
- 46:07it everywhere because it was doing it so much.
- 46:09Just a blend. Yeah, sure. That would make sense.
- 46:11You got to try to make it either consistent or
- 46:12not. Or just because it looks really cool, right?
- 46:14I was going to say, is it more of a Hollywood
- 46:16thing? Like, oh, that's cool. The flames are
- 46:17on the back of the car. Yeah. Sure, sure. People
- 46:19will think it's going fast if it's got fire.
- 46:21Yeah. Yeah. A ton of sparks, by the way. Obviously,
- 46:24the floor is hitting the ground. But it happens
- 46:25a lot. On certain tracks, it happens a lot. It
- 46:29happens a lot. Definitely, I think, added in
- 46:30in post, though. What about the fireworks exploding
- 46:33so low that the fireworks are coming across the
- 46:36street? I forgot to bring that up. It's reminiscent.
- 46:39There was a race. I think it was the 24 Hours
- 46:42of Le Mans where they were doing pyrotechnics
- 46:44right next to the track. And they were huge pyrotechnics.
- 46:47And the drivers were actually like, that's so
- 46:50hot. feel it from inside the car so like i doubt
- 46:54fireworks are gonna be that close but it made
- 46:56for a really good visual oh man oh that was cool
- 46:58and of course that was in the screen x as well
- 47:00so like that was along the walls and like yeah
- 47:02that was super immersive so like that was a really
- 47:04cool visual thing to it so i liked it a lot but
- 47:07i think it was a good i mean yeah I think we
- 47:11were trying to shoot for 30 minutes. If my eyes
- 47:13deceive me, we're at 48. Here we are. We're still
- 47:16here. That pretty much wraps our F1 movie review.
- 47:21Our first movie review ever. Potentially only
- 47:24one ever. We'll see if we can cancel that. That
- 47:26was great. We got people that liked our video
- 47:30game reviews. Our video game episode. Watch us
- 47:34have somebody like, oh, we love the movies. You
- 47:36gotta do more movies. Great. We gotta make a
- 47:38new show. But a couple things I want our listeners
- 47:44to know about. July 15th -ish, the boys are scheduled
- 47:48to start testing something cool. Well, we'll
- 47:53just rip off. Do tell. It's time trials on F125
- 47:57from our own homes, trying to put that together
- 48:00for you so we can get ready to actually race
- 48:04August 12th. I don't think we will be live, but,
- 48:08you know, so look for episodes to release a couple
- 48:11days after that. So that's just some exciting
- 48:13fast -lapse news coming up. It's going to be
- 48:16live. We do have another episode coming up this
- 48:19coming Tuesday. So, Kev, when is this? episode
- 48:22gonna release if you uh take a shot in the dark
- 48:25this one here this one that we're doing right
- 48:26now right tonight probably tonight all right
- 48:28going up immediately boys gotta be first to the
- 48:29feast let's go yeah absolutely first to the feast
- 48:32here we are uh kev thanks for jumping in with
- 48:34us today we've been we've been wanting kev cam
- 48:37kev mike we're still gonna get that together
- 48:39that's still gonna happen But since you saw the
- 48:42movie, we appreciated your insight and your audio
- 48:44insight, too. It was a lot of fun. You went to
- 48:46school for it, so it was awesome to hear that
- 48:48from you, straight from the horse's mouth, if
- 48:51you will. I love the movie. It was a good time.
- 48:53Thank you guys for letting me be on a part of
- 48:54this one. I don't want to just kind of take over
- 48:56by any means, but I appreciate you guys letting
- 48:58me jump on. You okay, Joe? Yeah, sorry. He's
- 49:00just staring at the camera. I just lost it. I'm
- 49:02not staring at the camera. I'm staring at our
- 49:03screen here. I'm nervous now. Joe's locked in.
- 49:07I just got, yeah. I was in a different world
- 49:09for a second. Were you flying? Yeah, I was flying.
- 49:17Come back down, Joe. I was flying. Joe, we'll
- 49:20see you on Tuesday, though. I'll be here on Tuesday.
- 49:23Maybe. I guess maybe. Mike, thanks for being
- 49:27here, of course. Yeah, it was great. I'm glad
- 49:29we got to talk about this. This was fun. I know.
- 49:31This was great. And I especially like it. That
- 49:34we kind of had two of each, right? That Kevin
- 49:36and I saw it last night, so we've had time to
- 49:38do random BS research. Like, again, I wouldn't
- 49:40have known that. Luigi Fregoli or whatever one
- 49:44was the oldest. He was the oldest winner in 1951
- 49:49French TV or something. Something like that.
- 49:51And then Joe and Mike literally walking out of
- 49:54the movie and driving straight here. It's like
- 49:56two blocks away. So it wasn't that far. But not
- 49:59to dox us or anything. Right now they all know
- 50:02where we are. Great. Great. With that, obviously,
- 50:05don't forget to like, comment, subscribe wherever
- 50:08you listen to the banter, whether that's YouTube,
- 50:10Spotify. Apple Podcasts, or iHeartRadio. And
- 50:13we will see you later this coming week for Fast
- 50:16Laps. Stay fast. Stay fast. Not an outro. Thank
- 50:21you. Don't forget to follow, like, and subscribe.
- 50:28Tune in next time for more banter with the boys.
