- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken.
- 0:04Speaker 2: It's your dose of the hottest influencer and pop culture
- 0:07Speaker 2: news twice a week. I'm Amy Torber and coming up
- 0:10Speaker 2: on today's show, Sarah's Day's controversial campaign launch, Sky Wheatley
- 0:15Speaker 2: defends her son's bedroom makeover, the boyfriends of Instagram's business
- 0:19Speaker 2: battle and our Friday debrief. But first, Kate, Molly May
- 0:23Speaker 2: has revealed she recently turned to ChatGPT for advice and
- 0:27Speaker 2: After a two-year-old daughter Bambi bit a child at daycare. Yeah,
- 0:31Speaker 2: so in her recent vlog, Molly was pretty apprehensive to
- 0:34Speaker 2: talk about the incident because she's been copping a lot
- 0:36Speaker 2: of backlash about sharing her takes on parenting. And she
- 0:40Speaker 2: also thought it was a little bit controversial to use
- 0:42Speaker 2: AI to help parent her child. But she joked that
- 0:44Speaker 2: she's getting used to it now, seeing as though controversial
- 0:47Speaker 2: was currently her middle name.
- 0:48Speaker 1: After being a mum for four months.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I have no judgment when it comes to someone using
- 0:52Speaker 2: ChatGPT for advice about their child.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Oh, it's like our third parent currently at the moment.
- 0:58Speaker 2: So Molly shared how she got a call from daycare
- 1:00Speaker 2: telling her she had to come and collect Bambi early
- 1:02Speaker 2: because she had bitten a child. And according to Molly,
- 1:05Speaker 2: the news didn't upset her because there is a biting
- 1:08Speaker 2: pandemic going on at the daycare centre. And she said
- 1:11Speaker 2: it was only going to be a matter of times
- 1:12Speaker 2: before Bambi reciprocated. The funniest thing about this story is
- 1:16Speaker 2: what Molly actually asked ChatGPT's advice on. So she wanted
- 1:19Speaker 2: to know how she should discipline Bambi, specifically if she
- 1:23Speaker 2: should take her out for ice cream afterwards.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Yeah, because it's usually a.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Part of their Friday afternoon tradition after daycare. Molly conceded
- 1:30Speaker 2: that the advice Chachi PT gave her was really, really incredible.
- 1:34Speaker 1: This is what she said.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Got some really, really incredible advice. At two and a half,
- 1:42Speaker 3: consequences need to be immediate and directly linked to their behavior.
- 1:46Speaker 3: If the biting happened in the morning and the ice
- 1:48Speaker 3: cream date is hours later, she is unlikely to connect
- 1:51Speaker 3: the two in her mind. If you cancel the treat
- 1:53Speaker 3: and say it's because of the biting, she may not
- 1:55Speaker 3: fully understand and it could just feel random or like
- 1:57Speaker 3: you're being mean for no reason. Instead of withholding a
- 2:00Speaker 3: separate nice thing, it's more effective to address the behaviour
- 2:04Speaker 3: in the moment at nursery or as soon after as possible.
- 2:08Speaker 2: You know how everyone says when you grow up, you
- 2:10Speaker 2: realise that your parents didn't know how to do anything?
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Can you imagine Bambi watching this back and realising that
- 2:17Speaker 2: a lot of the parenting advice came from AI?
- 2:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's pretty funny.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I mean, hats off to our parents who didn't have
- 2:22Speaker 2: AI or Google and had to work out what to
- 2:25Speaker 2: do on their own accord. I have to admit, Chat
- 2:27Speaker 2: GPT has a chokehold on me, not just for parenting,
- 2:30Speaker 2: but for everything in question. And I know people are
- 2:33Speaker 2: going to lecture me on the environmental impact of using it,
- 2:36Speaker 2: but I ask it questions on the daily. The only
- 2:38Speaker 2: thing that irritates me about your love for chat GPT
- 2:41Speaker 2: is that you used to call it chat GTP.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Oh, I know.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I still get that in my head sometimes. I'm going
- 2:45Speaker 2: to blame my husband, Rhys. He's the one that used
- 2:47Speaker 2: to say it like that. I have been using ChatGPT
- 2:50Speaker 2: recently to create bedtime stories for Harry. Oh, they're so funny.
- 2:53Speaker 2: They're so good. I felt really guilty though. I saw
- 2:56Speaker 2: this morning the ABC had an article up about all
- 2:58Speaker 2: these authors who have said ChatGPT.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Has been stealing their work. Oh yeah, it rips it
- 3:02Speaker 1: from other people.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's actually incredible because I read out this story
- 3:05Speaker 2: yesterday at family dinner and my dad's like, did you
- 3:08Speaker 2: come up with that yourself? I'm like, no, it's ChatGPT. Well,
- 3:11Speaker 2: you really personalised it. Like there were some in-jokes in
- 3:15Speaker 2: the story. I have been using ChatGPT to redesign my
- 3:19Speaker 2: living room. We're not actually planning to do anything at
- 3:22Speaker 2: the moment, but I wanted to see what it could do.
- 3:23Speaker 2: And it's actually been really shit.
- 3:25Speaker 4: Oh, really?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Yeah, the design doesn't work. It's not even in the
- 3:28Speaker 1: same layout.
- 3:28Speaker 2: It's not stealing the right work from the right person. Yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 2: so I think interior designers and architects are safe for now.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Do you know what I got it to do the
- 3:35Speaker 2: other night was, and please, if anyone knows my husband, Dale,
- 3:38Speaker 2: don't tell them I'm getting him this for Father's Day,
- 3:40Speaker 2: but he loves Pokemon. And I've seen on TikTok, you
- 3:43Speaker 2: can buy personalized Pokemon cards.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Yeah, they're cool. But they're so expensive. So anyway, I'm
- 3:46Speaker 1: making my own. I'll have to share it online.
- 3:49Speaker 2: And I got ChatGPT to turn a photo of Dale
- 3:52Speaker 2: and Harry into anime.
- 3:54Speaker 1: And it looks so good.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Now back to the world of Molly Mae. Now, do
- 3:58Speaker 2: we call him boyfriend, fiance, baby daddy? They used to
- 4:01Speaker 2: be fiance. Let's just call him Tommy.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Tommy Fury has opened up further about his drinking problem
- 4:06Speaker 2: on his three-part BBC docuseries, Tommy, The Good, The Bad,
- 4:10Speaker 2: The Fury. So he revealed he actually doesn't remember what
- 4:13Speaker 2: it felt like when Molly walked out on him with
- 4:15Speaker 2: their daughter. Because he was drunk at the time. Yeah,
- 4:18Speaker 2: I saw that grab and I was like, that's really sad. Yeah,
- 4:21Speaker 2: so in the first episode of the series, he said,
- 4:23Speaker 2: I woke up, I was like, shit, and I was
- 4:25Speaker 2: listening to probably the silence of the house for like
- 4:27Speaker 2: an hour.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I was like, fuck.
- 4:29Speaker 2: And that was the last time they've been here. Do
- 4:31Speaker 2: you notice how matter of fact he always talks? I
- 4:34Speaker 2: was drunk, right, Molly? Molly walked out on me and
- 4:37Speaker 2: I don't remember a thing. He talks exactly like his dad. Yeah.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I've always had a soft spot for Tommy because I
- 4:43Speaker 2: loved his series of Love Island and I was a
- 4:45Speaker 2: big fan of him and Molly on it. Not a
- 4:47Speaker 2: fan of the way he's treated her, but again, there's
- 4:50Speaker 2: a part of me that likes seeing them back together.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Everyone loves that redemption arc, don't they? And this is
- 4:55Speaker 2: what this documentary seems it's all about.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Well, they're clearly trying to make him look like a
- 4:59Speaker 2: good guy because he went on to say that no
- 5:01Speaker 2: matter how drunk he was, Bambi's routine always stayed the
- 5:04Speaker 2: same and he'd get up and feed her her breakfast
- 5:06Speaker 2: and bottle.
- 5:07Speaker 1: What, just hung over his phone?
- 5:08Speaker 2: Yeah. He also denied the cheating allegations that spread like
- 5:12Speaker 2: wildfire at the time of their breakup, which was this
- 5:14Speaker 2: time last year.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Can you believe it? Are you serious? Yeah. I don't
- 5:17Speaker 1: know if it feels like longer or shorter.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I think it feels almost longer, but for me personally,
- 5:21Speaker 2: so much has happened since then. Yeah, but so much
- 5:23Speaker 2: has gone on in the world of Molly Mae. I mean,
- 5:25Speaker 2: we've seen two different series on her show. Well, actually
- 5:28Speaker 2: it was one, it was a two-parter. We've seen Tommy
- 5:31Speaker 2: film a documentary as well. Yeah, and currently Molly's filming
- 5:34Speaker 2: the second series of her Doc O' She was going on, oh,
- 5:37Speaker 2: it's so much more fun filming it because it's so
- 5:39Speaker 2: much lighter and we're, you know, filming at maybe and
- 5:42Speaker 2: about business.
- 5:43Speaker 1: And I'm thinking no one wants that. Just film at
- 5:44Speaker 1: home with Tommy.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel the team at Amazon probably didn't like
- 5:47Speaker 2: that promotion of the show. Or do you think that
- 5:49Speaker 2: she is filming with Tommy and that's why we haven't
- 5:51Speaker 2: really seen a lot of him in her YouTube channel
- 5:54Speaker 2: because they're saving it for the doco?
- 5:55Speaker 4: Possibly.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I mean, once they're loved up, no one really cares
- 5:59Speaker 2: that much about it though. Yeah, but surely there's still
- 6:01Speaker 2: some cracks in that relationship. Like it's not all smooth sailing.
- 6:04Speaker 2: They're still living in different houses. Controversial Queensland businessman Ollie Frost,
- 6:09Speaker 2: who is best known for being the husband of influencer
- 6:12Speaker 2: Nicky Westcott, has called out his former friend's business. The
- 6:15Speaker 2: friend in question is none other than a fellow boyfriend
- 6:18Speaker 2: of Instagram, Jerome Ahern.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Now, Jerome used.
- 6:21Speaker 2: To date Lily Brown back in the day, and it's
- 6:23Speaker 2: rumored that he is the reason behind her relationship breakdown
- 6:27Speaker 2: with Nikki Westcott and Lucy Jackson.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Reading between the lines, it seems like the.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Wild Ones sided with Jerome during the breakup because they're
- 6:33Speaker 2: still friends with him. Well, probably not anymore. Now, Ollie
- 6:37Speaker 2: Frost took to his Instagram to share a warning to
- 6:39Speaker 2: his followers. He wrote, I'd strongly advise anyone considering Winner's
- 6:43Speaker 2: Locker to do their homework. There are serious concerns about
- 6:45Speaker 2: how the business is run, questions over whether prizes are
- 6:48Speaker 2: actually delivered, and a track record that doesn't inspire trust.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Before signing up or continuing your membership, research through and
- 6:55Speaker 2: make your own call. Just a friendly heads up. Now,
- 6:58Speaker 2: this business, Winner's Locker, it is essentially a subscription-based giveaway platform.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Very similar vibes to Adrian Portelli's giveaways.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so they tout themselves as giving away massive rewards
- 7:09Speaker 2: to everyday Aussies. And Jerome is the original founder of
- 7:13Speaker 2: the business. He now works as the head of growth.
- 7:15Speaker 2: And on the website, it says he leads all of
- 7:18Speaker 2: the marketing and PR. Funnily enough, according to his bio,
- 7:21Speaker 2: which I'm assuming he wrote himself, he says he has
- 7:23Speaker 2: a rich background working for some of Australia's most exciting startups.
- 7:27Speaker 2: And it goes on to say, a talented individual behind
- 7:30Speaker 2: the desk and on the field, Jerome blends exciting sports
- 7:33Speaker 2: promotion and incredible experiences to everyone in the winner's locker community.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Passionate about golf, tennis and NRL, a sports enthusiast with
- 7:41Speaker 2: a love for the green, the court turned the field.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I love that you say that he wrote that. Let's
- 7:46Speaker 2: be honest, it was probably ChatGPT. I know, ChatGPT for
- 7:48Speaker 2: the win again. Now, according to Winners Lockers socials, they
- 7:52Speaker 2: give cars and cash away every two weeks. Matt Paul,
- 7:55Speaker 2: Mitch Orville and Chloe Zepp all follow the Instagram account. Now,
- 7:59Speaker 2: Ollie's call-out came as a real surprise to a lot
- 8:01Speaker 2: of people because he and Jerome have been friends for years.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Ollie even shared a post to his Instagram feedback in
- 8:08Speaker 2: 2020 wishing Jerome a happy birthday. That's a big deal
- 8:12Speaker 2: for a man to do, a birthday post for a friend.
- 8:14Speaker 2: They must have been very close. Obviously, something major has
- 8:17Speaker 2: happened between the pair for Ollie to publicly call him out. Now,
- 8:20Speaker 2: it's important to note that not long after he posted
- 8:23Speaker 2: the story, he deleted it. Not before Influencer Updates AU
- 8:26Speaker 2: had a chance to post it.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Doing God's work there, Amber.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's important that we clarify that we
- 8:32Speaker 2: are in no way suggesting that any of Ollie's claims
- 8:34Speaker 2: about Winner's Locker are true, nor Jerome or the company
- 8:38Speaker 2: have actually spoken on the matter yet. What I want
- 8:41Speaker 2: to talk about, though, is how hypocritical this was from
- 8:44Speaker 2: Ollie Frost. I was pretty blown away with it because
- 8:47Speaker 2: usually Ollie is the one getting called out. So this
- 8:50Speaker 2: is where we need to introduce another boyfriend of Instagram,
- 8:53Speaker 2: Matt Paul. So back in 2020, when Matt was engaged
- 8:56Speaker 2: to Tammy Hembrough, he went into business with Ollie. We
- 8:59Speaker 2: actually have covered this in depth on the podcast before,
- 9:01Speaker 2: but Matt invested in Ollie's Gold Coast restaurant called Maman.
- 9:04Speaker 1: But less than three years later, the business went into liquidation.
- 9:07Speaker 2: And at the time, Matt told the Gold Coast Bulletin
- 9:10Speaker 2: that Ollie had squeezed him out of the business and
- 9:12Speaker 2: owed him money.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Despite Maman and several.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Other of Ollie's restaurants going into liquidation in 2023, they
- 9:19Speaker 2: continued operating under a new entity that he set up.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Now, that entity went.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Into administration in June this year, and Ollie and his
- 9:27Speaker 2: business partner are currently challenging it in court. It's been
- 9:30Speaker 2: reported that Ollie's four restaurants entered administration because of a $ 1.
- 9:34Speaker 1: 45 million debt.
- 9:36Speaker 2: So it's pretty wild to me that Ollie Frost feels
- 9:38Speaker 2: like he's in a position to call out another businessman.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I was pretty surprised when I saw it too.
- 9:42Speaker 2: And it's kind of ballsy of him because I'm sure
- 9:45Speaker 2: Jerome knows a lot of his secrets. Yeah.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I mean, they've been friends for years.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. you think, oh, I probably don't want someone else
- 9:52Speaker 2: digging up stuff on me. I mean, he's had Matt
- 9:54Speaker 2: Paul calling him out in the media saying this whole
- 9:57Speaker 2: thing couldn't happen to a more deserving bloke. And also
- 10:00Speaker 2: for the sake of your influencer wife, Nikki Westcott, why
- 10:03Speaker 2: are you weighing into these things and getting more attention? Well,
- 10:05Speaker 2: playing devil's advocate, could he genuinely be really concerned about
- 10:09Speaker 2: these giveaways?
- 10:10Speaker 1: I think that's a very earnest approach.
- 10:12Speaker 2: I think clearly something big has happened between the pair
- 10:14Speaker 2: and he's trying to level things out. Revenge kind of thing.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Honestly, guys, like, I do not let shit like this
- 10:22Speaker 4: get to me.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I never do.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Sky Wheatley has been left reeling after she unveiled the
- 10:27Speaker 2: makeover of her eldest son's bedroom. The influencer proudly shared
- 10:32Speaker 2: a room reveal on her TikTok but was inundated with
- 10:35Speaker 2: negative feedback. Now, Kate, what was the problem with this room? Well,
- 10:38Speaker 2: the people of TikTok have spoken and they've deemed that
- 10:41Speaker 2: the room was far too grown up for Sky's six-year-old son, Forrest.
- 10:45Speaker 2: So the design was nothing crazy. The room's got dark
- 10:48Speaker 2: timber floors, white walls, and those sheer curtains that are
- 10:51Speaker 2: very in fashion at the moment.
- 10:53Speaker 1: This sounds nice.
- 10:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I mean, I'd quite like that set up for my
- 10:56Speaker 2: own room. And I suppose that's where the issue lies.
- 10:58Speaker 2: It also had a black steel set of bunk beds
- 11:01Speaker 2: and they were positioned up against the window with.
- 11:03Speaker 1: A light blue bedspread. There was also a chest.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Of drawers that had a framed Minecraft poster on it
- 11:08Speaker 2: alongside a cream colored bean bag.
- 11:11Speaker 1: And I have to admit, there.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Were a few other mature looking additions to the room,
- 11:14Speaker 2: including a candle on the dresser and this swirly standing
- 11:17Speaker 2: mirror and also a floor lamp that looked like it
- 11:20Speaker 2: probably belonged in a living room. Awkwardly, it seems like
- 11:23Speaker 2: the room redo was sponsored by a furniture company. And
- 11:27Speaker 2: I think that's why Sky Wheatley has hit back at it. Well,
- 11:30Speaker 2: it seems like the inclusion of the decorative candle in
- 11:32Speaker 2: six-year-old Forrest's room is what pushed one person over the
- 11:36Speaker 2: edge on TikTok. They wrote, Another person added, Someone else sniped,
- 11:50Speaker 2: the bunk bed looks like a prison bunk.
- 11:52Speaker 1: While another said, when.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Parents try so hard to have an Instagram house instead
- 11:56Speaker 2: of allowing kids spaces to be about kids. Now on Monday,
- 12:00Speaker 2: Sky hit back at the trolls. She said the room
- 12:02Speaker 2: wasn't complete and that people were so judgmental. She wrote,
- 12:06Speaker 2: people in the comments need to realize my son is
- 12:08Speaker 2: seven this year. He's not a fucking baby anymore. Now
- 12:11Speaker 2: it got to the point where she actually broke down
- 12:13Speaker 2: and said she was trying not to get emotional over it.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Let's throw to some of what she said.
- 12:18Speaker 4: I've had people say the most horrible shit to me.
- 12:22Speaker 4: You fucked your face. This, that, such a natural beauty.
- 12:26Speaker 4: What has she done? This, that, fucking, or anything about
- 12:30Speaker 4: my bedroom, whatever. Sheets don't go. Hate your pictures. Do this,
- 12:35Speaker 4: do that. Sick. When it comes to my kids, I'm
- 12:45Speaker 4: not going to get emotional. I'm not going to get emotional. Like,
- 12:49Speaker 4: when it comes to my kids and how much I
- 12:55Speaker 4: do for them as a mother and how much effort
- 13:00Speaker 4: I put into doing that room when it's not even
- 13:03Speaker 4: finished and people are just so nasty. Say whatever the
- 13:07Speaker 4: fuck you want about me in my room. Do not.
- 13:11Speaker 4: Don't say shit about my children. Don't comment on my
- 13:14Speaker 4: mothering skills. Like, I feel like as a mother, you know...
- 13:18Speaker 4: not to judge other mums. Like, how is this not
- 13:20Speaker 4: a known fucking fact? Like, am I judging a mother
- 13:27Speaker 4: for anything she does?
- 13:29Speaker 1: No.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Do you know how hard it is to be a parent?
- 13:33Speaker 2: She wanted to say that she thinks that most of
- 13:35Speaker 2: the people making comments weren't actually parents themselves. And she
- 13:38Speaker 2: then defended her decision not to have their rooms filled
- 13:41Speaker 2: with toys. She said she prefers to spend her money
- 13:43Speaker 2: taking her kids overseas to show how other children live.
- 13:47Speaker 2: that they understand how privileged they are. She doesn't want
- 13:50Speaker 2: to raise entitled, ungrateful children who have no appreciation for anything.
- 13:54Speaker 2: She also said they're better off outside or on their motorbikes.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I mean, she makes a good point.
- 13:59Speaker 2: She said that there was this period of time where
- 14:01Speaker 2: her kids just trashed everything she bought them and they
- 14:04Speaker 2: weren't really respecting it. And I mean, it's unusual for
- 14:08Speaker 2: commenters on TikTok to say that the kids aren't spoiled enough,
- 14:10Speaker 2: like that they need more things.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I think there's this real movement.
- 14:13Speaker 2: On TikTok though, where people are calling out parents for
- 14:16Speaker 2: being beige parents. And I know when Sophie was setting
- 14:19Speaker 2: up her nursery, we were giving her a bit of
- 14:21Speaker 2: shit because everything she chose for Luca was beige. And
- 14:24Speaker 2: we're like, have a bit of color. Yeah, but I
- 14:26Speaker 2: think a nursery is different. You don't know what your
- 14:28Speaker 2: kid likes. They don't really have a personality. But when
- 14:30Speaker 2: you're at the age of six, like they obviously have
- 14:33Speaker 2: things that they might want to display in their room
- 14:34Speaker 2: or that they like to play with. It's usually guided
- 14:37Speaker 2: by them, what their room looks like. I mean, I
- 14:39Speaker 2: feel mean saying this to Sky because I know she
- 14:41Speaker 2: tried her best. But from an outside perspective, the room
- 14:44Speaker 2: did look a bit sad. Like, she'd obviously tried to
- 14:47Speaker 2: put a little bit of personality with the Minecraft posters, but.
- 14:50Speaker 1: It just needed a bit of colour or something. Yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I get that.
- 14:53Speaker 2: And, I mean, when I saw the room, I kind
- 14:55Speaker 2: of understood the commentary. But do we really care? Do
- 14:57Speaker 2: we really have to comment on everything about how parents
- 15:00Speaker 2: do things? Like, couldn't you just say, oh, that looks
- 15:03Speaker 2: very nice?
- 15:03Speaker 1: I mean, not for me. Wait, have you been on
- 15:05Speaker 1: TikTok before? Well, yeah, I know.
- 15:07Speaker 2: But I just really felt for Sky because I'm someone–
- 15:10Speaker 2: that interior design doesn't come natural to me. And when
- 15:13Speaker 2: I was designing my son's nursery, I say designing, like,
- 15:16Speaker 2: you know, it was just a normal room set up,
- 15:18Speaker 2: but I spent so long on Pinterest, so long on
- 15:20Speaker 2: TikTok trying to get inspiration. And, you know, it just
- 15:24Speaker 2: looks like a regular room. It's not a Pinterest room,
- 15:27Speaker 2: but even just deciding on these different details and what
- 15:29Speaker 2: to buy and where to put it, it just took
- 15:31Speaker 2: me so long.
- 15:32Speaker 1: But do you think a lot of.
- 15:33Speaker 2: It has to do with, we see these children's room
- 15:36Speaker 2: on YouTube as big reveals, like these huge influencers. I
- 15:39Speaker 2: saw one where someone had put a rock climbing wall
- 15:41Speaker 2: in a children's room. I think Sarah's Day has one
- 15:43Speaker 2: like that. Yeah, like were people expecting more from Skye? Yeah,
- 15:47Speaker 2: maybe they were expecting too much. Like this is quite
- 15:49Speaker 2: a normal room for a child to have. Like it
- 15:51Speaker 2: was beautiful but it was just it didn't have much
- 15:55Speaker 2: personality which maybe that's what Forrest wanted. I think the
- 15:57Speaker 2: other thing is that Forrest kind of didn't really give
- 16:00Speaker 2: much in the video. He wasn't like, wow, because that's
- 16:02Speaker 2: what kind of kid he is. Like the kids are different. Well,
- 16:05Speaker 2: I mean he's not a performing monkey. He's just going
- 16:07Speaker 2: to react like a kid does and– I mean, he
- 16:09Speaker 2: doesn't really understand that his mom's probably got a brand
- 16:11Speaker 2: deal with the furniture company and they need a little
- 16:13Speaker 2: bit more. He doesn't understand that there's trolls on TikTok
- 16:16Speaker 2: that are going to obsess over his reaction.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I mean. Sky's emotional state over this feedback from the
- 16:23Speaker 2: room makes sense because it feels like these renovations have
- 16:25Speaker 2: been going on forever.
- 16:26Speaker 1: And I'm not even living in them, but I feel
- 16:28Speaker 1: like I'm like, how is this still going? Oh, it'd
- 16:30Speaker 1: be awful. So it's actually been five years.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Sky and her boyfriend, Lockie Wall, bought the home back
- 16:36Speaker 2: in 2020 for $ 975, 000. Doesn't that make you want to cry?
- 16:39Speaker 2: Oh yeah, because this is a mega mansion now. They
- 16:42Speaker 2: always refer to it as an abandoned mansion or a
- 16:44Speaker 2: haunted house. And their dream was to transform it into
- 16:48Speaker 2: a luxurious property. And Sky has documented the Renos on
- 16:51Speaker 2: and off on her social media over the five years. Unfortunately, though,
- 16:55Speaker 2: the renovations have been a complete nightmare filled with so
- 16:59Speaker 2: many setbacks. So the timeline originally got pushed back when
- 17:02Speaker 2: Sky unexpectedly fell pregnant with her second son, Bear. And
- 17:06Speaker 2: for the last couple of years, they've been living in
- 17:08Speaker 2: their garage that was converted. They've had massive budget blowouts.
- 17:12Speaker 2: They've spent way over budget. And recently, the couple experienced
- 17:16Speaker 2: extreme financial strain when Lockie's shop fitting business went into administration.
- 17:20Speaker 2: So Sky had to take on more influencing work to
- 17:23Speaker 2: help fund the rebuild.
- 17:24Speaker 1: And understandably, Sky has been really upset.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Last month, she showed herself breaking down in tears after
- 17:29Speaker 2: Lockie built a staircase that she deemed too oversized. And
- 17:33Speaker 2: she revealed she's been relying on her ADHD medication to
- 17:36Speaker 2: deal with the mental toll of the renovations.
- 17:38Speaker 1: It would all be extremely overwhelming.
- 17:40Speaker 2: And I think the saddest thing to come back from
- 17:41Speaker 2: all this negative feedback on TikTok was that Sky ended up.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Trying to justify.
- 17:46Speaker 2: forest room, and she even is at the point where
- 17:49Speaker 2: she's changing things to.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Suit what people said. Isn't that crazy? Because it's like, well,
- 17:52Speaker 1: if he likes it, that's what's most important.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:56Speaker 1: You're not boring, so why is your water?
- 18:00Speaker 2: Sarah's Day's campaign launch for Australian electrolyte brand Hyro has
- 18:04Speaker 2: divided audiences. The fitness influencer unveiled the secret drink flavour
- 18:09Speaker 2: she has created alongside a controversial viral video that which
- 18:13Speaker 2: featured a kidnapping. Now, first things first, as we discussed
- 18:17Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago, the flavor is blackcurrant, blackcurrant
- 18:21Speaker 2: crush to be precise. Now, despite Sarah teasing the secret
- 18:24Speaker 2: flavor to her millions of followers for months, the flavor
- 18:27Speaker 2: was actually leaked after a website mishap. So it turns
- 18:30Speaker 2: out the flavor was listed on the website months before
- 18:33Speaker 2: the launch.
- 18:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:34Speaker 2: So in terms of the campaign, it was a big
- 18:37Speaker 2: one for Sarah because not only was it coming off
- 18:39Speaker 2: the back of her being dumped as an ambassador for
- 18:41Speaker 2: perfume brand Who Is Elijah, but she has personally invested
- 18:45Speaker 2: in the hydration company and also created the campaign alongside her.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Husband, Kurt Till's.
- 18:50Speaker 2: And ahead of the launch, Hyro's co-founder Steve Chapman shared
- 18:53Speaker 2: his apprehension on LinkedIn. He wrote, We're sitting on over
- 18:57Speaker 2: $ 1 million worth of stock right now, and honestly, I'm
- 19:00Speaker 2: scared shitless about our launch in five days. Doesn't matter
- 19:03Speaker 2: how many products you've launched or how many businesses you've built.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Right before you put something big into the market, that
- 19:09Speaker 2: fear is still there. This is our biggest marketing spend ever.
- 19:13Speaker 2: We're working with Australia's top YouTuber. The creative is humorous
- 19:16Speaker 2: and a bit controversial. It could be a massive hit
- 19:19Speaker 2: or a miss. And we've already manufactured more inventory than
- 19:22Speaker 2: we've ever held before. If this doesn't work, we're in trouble.
- 19:26Speaker 2: What an honest statement to put up on LinkedIn. And
- 19:29Speaker 2: it's a pretty big statement to make. I found it
- 19:31Speaker 2: interesting that he was actually quite transparent with how much
- 19:33Speaker 2: stock that he's bought because usually there's a bit of
- 19:36Speaker 2: skepticism around when an influencer brand says that they've sold
- 19:39Speaker 2: out of a product. A lot of people question whether
- 19:41Speaker 2: it was a small drop so that they can have
- 19:43Speaker 2: this tag of being sold out. Obviously, in this case,
- 19:46Speaker 2: they're putting a lot of money behind it.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I want to get into the video.
- 19:50Speaker 2: So for those who haven't seen it, it opens with
- 19:53Speaker 2: Sarah throwing water in a cyclist's face and she declares,
- 19:56Speaker 2: no one likes cyclists. A bit of a strange move
- 19:59Speaker 2: when you consider that cyclists probably need hydration and could
- 20:01Speaker 2: be a target market there. Yeah, so then in the
- 20:05Speaker 2: video she walks into an office and she throws papers
- 20:07Speaker 2: around while she forcefully tells the viewer watching, dehydrated is
- 20:11Speaker 2: their fault. I think we should throw to some of
- 20:13Speaker 2: the audio just to demonstrate Sarah's tone throughout it.
- 20:17Speaker 4: But no, it couldn't be you because you've got your
- 20:19Speaker 4: giant comfort water bottle with you wherever.
- 20:21Speaker 5: You go, right?
- 20:23Speaker 1: Wrong.
- 20:25Speaker 3: It is you and you need electrolyte.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I think the most bizarre scene for me was when
- 20:32Speaker 2: she barged into the bathroom when her husband was taking
- 20:35Speaker 2: a leak in the toilet and they shot her lying
- 20:38Speaker 2: on the ground looking up at him and she calls
- 20:40Speaker 2: him little guy and you can see the urine going
- 20:43Speaker 2: into the bowl. I was like, oh my God, they
- 20:45Speaker 2: really went there with the script, didn't they? Yeah, I
- 20:47Speaker 2: mean the whole ad just screamed Sarah and Kurt humour.
- 20:50Speaker 2: It kind of almost came across a bit like a
- 20:52Speaker 2: high school drama performance. Yeah, I was going to say
- 20:55Speaker 2: it was quite teenage humor humor. I mean, they spoke
- 20:58Speaker 2: a lot about how they stayed up late one night
- 21:00Speaker 2: and wrote the script for this. And then they took
- 21:02Speaker 2: it to the high row founders and were kind of
- 21:04Speaker 2: sitting there watching them to see if they agreed that
- 21:07Speaker 2: it was funny. It's kind of one of those awkward
- 21:08Speaker 2: things where someone says, we think this is really funny.
- 21:11Speaker 4: Do you?
- 21:11Speaker 1: I wonder how honest the co-founders were with them. I mean,
- 21:14Speaker 1: we're going to get into more of the controversy.
- 21:16Speaker 2: There was a rather controversial scene, but the rest of
- 21:19Speaker 2: the actual ad, there were elements that were clever and
- 21:23Speaker 2: that were quite funny. I mean, it depends on your
- 21:25Speaker 2: sense of humor, I suppose. I like the walkthrough nature
- 21:28Speaker 2: of it, but there was almost too much going on
- 21:30Speaker 2: to take in.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Well, you've got to remember the ad went for two minutes.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I have found myself watching it.
- 21:35Speaker 2: A number of times and still finding something new that
- 21:38Speaker 2: I've missed. So from that perspective, I think it was
- 21:41Speaker 2: quite clever because it really gripped your attention. And from
- 21:44Speaker 2: a videography perspective, I'm a videographer, so I enjoyed the
- 21:47Speaker 2: high production value of it. I would hate to think
- 21:51Speaker 2: how much Kurt's business, House of Groms, actually charged for this. Well,
- 21:54Speaker 2: I'm guessing it was a part of the overall deal
- 21:56Speaker 2: because they are investors in the company. They will get
- 21:58Speaker 2: payback if this sells very well. I mean, another compliment
- 22:01Speaker 2: from me is that the branding was really good in
- 22:04Speaker 2: terms of they used the Hyro branding color throughout.
- 22:07Speaker 1: It really popped.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I mean, watching that, I want one of those Hyro
- 22:11Speaker 2: drink bottles now. Look, Amy, this is where we're going
- 22:13Speaker 2: to clash because firstly, I found the way Sarah presented
- 22:16Speaker 2: herself in this video very strange. She's been brought on
- 22:20Speaker 2: as this YouTuber, this personality that a lot of people like,
- 22:23Speaker 2: and they're hoping a lot of Sarah's fans.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Buy the product.
- 22:27Speaker 2: But throughout the video, she came across as very unlikable.
- 22:30Speaker 2: She came across as condescending. She acted like her audience
- 22:34Speaker 2: were stupid if they didn't buy the product. And I
- 22:36Speaker 2: get it was meant to be a joke, but I
- 22:39Speaker 2: don't think it landed. Secondly, the cameo that the other
- 22:43Speaker 2: investors in the company made. So Alongside Sarah, NRL star
- 22:47Speaker 2: Daley Cherry Evans and also rugby player Quade Cooper have
- 22:51Speaker 2: invested in Hiro and they make this cameo tied up
- 22:54Speaker 2: in the back of a van and their captor then
- 22:57Speaker 2: forces them to endorse the brand before driving off.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Oi, stay in the line. I feel so hydrated. You too.
- 23:07Speaker 2: I love Hiro. Now, this joke has not landed well
- 23:13Speaker 2: in the US market, which is a market that Hyro
- 23:16Speaker 2: is trying to get into at the moment. They've been
- 23:18Speaker 2: very upfront that they're trying to tap into the US market.
- 23:21Speaker 2: They want this to be a $ 100 million brand. And
- 23:24Speaker 2: they received comments from potential US customers saying, are all
- 23:28Speaker 2: ads in Australia this bad? Clearly, your sense of humor
- 23:30Speaker 2: is different. Hopefully, you hire professionals to break into the
- 23:33Speaker 2: US market. People being kidnapped in panel vans, really nothing
- 23:36Speaker 2: humorous about that.
- 23:37Speaker 1: A little tone deaf.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Another person wrote, extremely tone deaf for all your US customers.
- 23:42Speaker 2: This commenter then went on to say, considering the daily
- 23:44Speaker 2: illegal abductions, holding and deportations happening in the US, it
- 23:48Speaker 2: is overall really disappointing to see brands capitalizing on the
- 23:52Speaker 2: imagery right now. It was just unnecessary in my opinion
- 23:55Speaker 2: as a would have been customer. Yeah, well, that part
- 23:58Speaker 2: of the two minute ad made me feel really uncomfortable.
- 24:00Speaker 2: I mean, it didn't need to be in there. I
- 24:03Speaker 2: thought at the time, this is a bit bizarre because one,
- 24:07Speaker 2: It's weird that you're saying you have to force people
- 24:09Speaker 2: to say how good the product is. Particularly when people
- 24:11Speaker 2: know they're investors in the company anyway. The joke didn't
- 24:15Speaker 2: even make sense. No, it didn't make sense. And when
- 24:18Speaker 2: you bring in all that is happening in the US
- 24:20Speaker 2: right now, it just comes across as really tone deaf.
- 24:23Speaker 2: And even the person who said, can't you get someone
- 24:26Speaker 2: actually professional to make that? That's the thing with Sarah
- 24:29Speaker 2: and Kurt's ads. They come across as really clever for
- 24:31Speaker 2: a social media ad. But if you were to air
- 24:34Speaker 2: that on television- He just wouldn't. See, I don't think
- 24:37Speaker 2: they necessarily come across as clever for a social media ad.
- 24:40Speaker 2: So many of their campaigns have caused controversy. You only
- 24:42Speaker 2: need to think back to their campaign in 2020 with
- 24:44Speaker 2: White Fox Boutique where Sarah was accused of cultural appropriation.
- 24:47Speaker 2: They then did a follow-up campaign that was basically a
- 24:50Speaker 2: fuck you to the people that called them out. When
- 24:52Speaker 2: I say clever, I more so mean you don't normally
- 24:55Speaker 2: see such high production value ads from people on social media.
- 24:59Speaker 2: I think what you're confusing clever with is effort. They
- 25:02Speaker 2: put a lot of effort into the production quality. But
- 25:04Speaker 2: I think often the marketing messaging is missing and it's
- 25:07Speaker 2: not as professional as it needs to be. And I
- 25:09Speaker 2: think they get into a room with people that are
- 25:12Speaker 2: just yes people.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Yes, I was going to say that, yeah. And no
- 25:14Speaker 1: one holds them to account.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Another thing that didn't sit well with me is the
- 25:18Speaker 2: shade that they threw at other hydration companies.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Let's throw to the job that Sarah made.
- 25:24Speaker 4: Hyro is a scientifically formulated electrolyte blend with no added
- 25:28Speaker 4: sugars and all natural ingredients.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Not like those other hydration brands.
- 25:33Speaker 2: On the market. Now, it seems like this comment really
- 25:37Speaker 2: annoyed one of Hyro's competitors. That company is called Hydro Mama.
- 25:43Speaker 1: They're a little bit different.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Their hydration products are targeted more at mums, as their
- 25:47Speaker 2: name suggests. They are for pregnant women and also postpartum women,
- 25:51Speaker 2: but they can be for all members of the family.
- 25:54Speaker 2: And straight after Hyro's campaign went live, they sent out
- 25:57Speaker 2: an email to customers reminding them who was the original
- 26:00Speaker 2: creator of a blackcurrant hydration drink. So the email was entitled,
- 26:04Speaker 2: The OG Flavor Still Unmatched. And in the email, they
- 26:08Speaker 2: compared Hydro Mama to, quote, other brands and said other
- 26:11Speaker 2: brands were overpowering or hard to stomach and often miss
- 26:15Speaker 2: key nutrients. Now, Hydro Mama is actually owned by influencer
- 26:19Speaker 2: Kira Rumble. She's no stranger to other brands taking inspiration
- 26:22Speaker 2: from her. In 2022, a beauty business co-founded by Chris
- 26:26Speaker 2: Hemsworth's wife, Elsa Bataki, launched products featuring near identical packaging,
- 26:31Speaker 2: imagery and website design to Kira's skincare business, Habitual Beauty. Now,
- 26:36Speaker 2: in addition to the email, Kira Rumble shared a video
- 26:39Speaker 2: of her pouring Hydra Mama's blackcurrant drink into a glass
- 26:42Speaker 2: and added the caption, our OG all day, every day.
- 26:46Speaker 2: I found this such a clever and classy response from Kira. Now,
- 26:51Speaker 2: Hyro's pricing has also caused discussions. So when you compare
- 26:55Speaker 2: it to a brand like Hyro Mama, it's very expensive,
- 26:58Speaker 2: nearly double the price. So if you want to buy
- 27:01Speaker 2: 15 sachets of Hyro, it costs $ 39.
- 27:05Speaker 1: 95.
- 27:06Speaker 2: So that's around $ 2. 66 per sachet. So that's $ 2. 66 per
- 27:11Speaker 2: drink that you have. When you compare that to the
- 27:14Speaker 2: price of Hyro Mama, you can buy a pack of
- 27:16Speaker 2: 30 for $ 39.
- 27:16Speaker 1: 99, which is $ 1. 33 per sachet. So a big difference there.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Still cheaper than a can of Coke.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Yeah, true. If you look at it like that. Well,
- 27:28Speaker 2: I mean, you're comparing apples and oranges at that point.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Or black currants.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Well, it's important to point out there were people who
- 27:35Speaker 2: actually enjoyed this ad as well. Oh, there were so
- 27:38Speaker 2: many comments saying that this is the best ad that
- 27:40Speaker 2: they've ever seen and they've been watching it over and
- 27:42Speaker 2: over again. So it definitely worked with Sarah's audience. The
- 27:46Speaker 2: proof is in the pudding though. And at the time of.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Recording, the flavor is yet to sell out.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Straight after the ad went live though, the co-founder Steve
- 27:53Speaker 2: Chapman claimed that they were selling quickly and getting a.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Lot of orders. Here's what he said.
- 27:58Speaker 5: It's been absolutely mental this morning with the launch of
- 28:01Speaker 5: our Black Currant Crush. Shopify has been going crazy. This
- 28:06Speaker 5: flavor is about to sell out. Sarah's just dropped it.
- 28:09Speaker 5: The video is insane if you haven't checked it out.
- 28:10Speaker 5: But head over to the website and pick yourself up
- 28:12Speaker 5: a Black Currant. The more you buy, the more you save.
- 28:15Speaker 5: But subscription is always the best. 25% off, free shipping
- 28:18Speaker 5: and gifts on the way. So getting quick.
- 28:21Speaker 2: The campaign ended up capturing the attention of mainstream media.
- 28:25Speaker 2: So Sarah teased on the day of the launch that
- 28:27Speaker 2: she was doing an article on the Hiro launch. It
- 28:30Speaker 2: turns out the piece was with the Daily Telegraph. However,
- 28:33Speaker 2: they ended up flipping the story on Sarah and making
- 28:36Speaker 2: it about influencers sharing their kids online with a small
- 28:39Speaker 2: plug at the end for Hiro. know if high row
- 28:42Speaker 2: have a pr fan working for them but i don't
- 28:44Speaker 2: understand how they couldn't have got sarah on either sunrise
- 28:48Speaker 2: or the today show like this is actually a story
- 28:50Speaker 2: that'd be perfect for a morning tv show bringing in
- 28:53Speaker 2: the drink you could have got the host to try
- 28:55Speaker 2: it the fact that there were cameos from some nrl
- 28:58Speaker 2: players as well yeah there's a lot going on there
- 29:01Speaker 2: i mean look at keep it cleaner they're constantly on
- 29:03Speaker 2: the morning yeah it's like they obviously have a line
- 29:05Speaker 2: straight into the producer.
- 29:06Speaker 1: It's not that hard to get on guys.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay. Look, don't say that Amy, because you want
- 29:10Speaker 2: to pee on me. No, but you have to know
- 29:11Speaker 2: the right people to ask.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly right. Let's get into our Friday debrief.
- 29:18Speaker 2: And it seems like hydration is on my mind off
- 29:20Speaker 2: the back of the Sarah's Day topic, but this is
- 29:22Speaker 2: completely unrelated. So I've been trying not to drink Coke
- 29:26Speaker 2: Zero every night. There was a time where I was
- 29:28Speaker 2: only having it for a treat if I went out
- 29:30Speaker 2: to a restaurant. But since giving birth to Jack, it's
- 29:32Speaker 2: been my little treat at the end.
- 29:33Speaker 4: Of the night.
- 29:34Speaker 1: I'm like, I deserve this.
- 29:35Speaker 2: It was my pregnancy craving and now I can't go
- 29:38Speaker 2: a night without drinking Coke. Zero. And I kind of,
- 29:41Speaker 2: I'm thinking, well, if that's my little treat, it's not
- 29:44Speaker 2: the worst thing. I don't really drink alcohol. I can
- 29:47Speaker 2: have a freaking Coke Zero. Yeah, I know. But I
- 29:49Speaker 2: want to keep it to being a little treat. I
- 29:51Speaker 2: think that, you know, it's best to moderate it a
- 29:54Speaker 2: little bit. So I've been trying to get back into
- 29:57Speaker 2: drinking kombucha. I feel like it's a little bit better
- 29:59Speaker 2: for me. And I'm devastated because Lobros, which is my
- 30:02Speaker 2: preferred kombucha flavor, no longer seems to be available in
- 30:05Speaker 2: Coles or Woolies. Like I can't get it in my
- 30:07Speaker 2: online shop. So I'm back on Remedy and I don't know,
- 30:10Speaker 2: they're just not as, they don't taste as sweet as Lobros,
- 30:14Speaker 2: but they have a range called Sodaly and I've come
- 30:17Speaker 2: across this blood orange flavor.
- 30:19Speaker 1: That was so good. I actually wanted it over my
- 30:22Speaker 1: Coke Zero.
- 30:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I went through a phase of drinking those. They're great.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:25Speaker 1: You need ice with them and to put it in
- 30:27Speaker 1: a nice glass.
- 30:28Speaker 2: So I've got a Starbucks tumbler that I drink specifically
- 30:31Speaker 2: from for it.
- 30:32Speaker 1: See, I really wanted an ice maker that did that
- 30:34Speaker 1: pebble ice. Didn't you have one?
- 30:36Speaker 2: No. Well, I think Dale didn't realise that I wanted
- 30:38Speaker 2: the pebble ice specifically.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 30:40Speaker 1: So it's still really nice.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I don't want to sound ungrateful, but he got me
- 30:44Speaker 2: an ice maker, but it sort of makes bigger pieces
- 30:46Speaker 2: of ice.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Well, I mean, that's still good. No, it's still good.
- 30:51Speaker 1: It's great. I actually just updated my ice cube tray
- 30:53Speaker 1: to a Kmart one. What was it previously? It was
- 30:56Speaker 1: just some shit. Like it was probably from Kmart, but
- 30:58Speaker 1: this one's got a lid. Oh, look at you.
- 31:00Speaker 5: I know.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Well, I've got two recommendations.
- 31:04Speaker 2: One is someone to follow on Instagram and I've been
- 31:07Speaker 2: going on about her, Kate, to you. It's Grace Andrews.
- 31:09Speaker 2: She used to work on Diary of a CEO. She's
- 31:11Speaker 2: this social media whiz. I actually want to get her
- 31:14Speaker 2: on one of our Christmas episodes because not only does
- 31:17Speaker 2: she kind of sound like Emma Watson, like she's got
- 31:19Speaker 2: the coolest English accent, but she is also so smart
- 31:23Speaker 2: specifically about social media. So she was the first hire
- 31:27Speaker 2: on Diary of a CEO and And she was able
- 31:30Speaker 2: to transform the show. I think they went from having,
- 31:32Speaker 2: it was something like 70,000 subscribers on YouTube to I
- 31:36Speaker 2: think 10 million by the time she left. So is
- 31:38Speaker 2: the plan to get her on the Christmas episode and
- 31:40Speaker 2: then we just literally pick her brain for outspoken? Like
- 31:42Speaker 2: how do we get to the level of diversity? That's
- 31:44Speaker 2: how we do it. But she's actually just left the show.
- 31:47Speaker 2: So she's started up a YouTube channel.
- 31:49Speaker 3: She's available.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Yeah. She's doing all these keynote speeches and she's going
- 31:52Speaker 2: to launch a product. So she's one to follow because
- 31:56Speaker 2: I think A lot of people are sick of just
- 31:58Speaker 2: watching your stock standard influencer that their day's filled with
- 32:01Speaker 2: getting their nails done and their hair cut.
- 32:02Speaker 1: People want a bit more now.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Yeah. And my other recommendation is you need to watch
- 32:07Speaker 2: Fit for TV, the reality of the biggest loser on Netflix.
- 32:10Speaker 2: I'm halfway through it at the moment and absolutely gripped
- 32:14Speaker 2: by it. Like I feel a mixture of nostalgic and
- 32:18Speaker 2: sick at the same time. It's crazy to think the
- 32:21Speaker 2: stranglehold that show had on us and how detrimental it's been.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 32:25Speaker 2: I mean, I remember watching nearly every series of The
- 32:28Speaker 2: Biggest Loser and now you see snippets of it. Like
- 32:30Speaker 2: they had this snippet of temptation when they were getting
- 32:33Speaker 2: the contestants to move food around in their mouth. And
- 32:36Speaker 2: I don't know, as a kid, you didn't realise it,
- 32:38Speaker 2: but they were just trying to humiliate all of the contestants. Oh,
- 32:41Speaker 2: it was so humiliating under this guise of helping them out. And,
- 32:45Speaker 2: you know, I don't want to ruin the show for
- 32:47Speaker 2: people who haven't seen it, but you see how detrimental
- 32:50Speaker 2: the whole process was for the contestants' health. I think
- 32:52Speaker 2: the thing that shocked me the most was, They obviously
- 32:55Speaker 2: had trainers on the show.
- 32:56Speaker 1: They had a medic as well. But they didn't have
- 32:59Speaker 1: a psychologist.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Well, actually, on the later series in Australia, they implemented
- 33:02Speaker 2: a psychologist and they moved away from such dramatic weight loss.
- 33:05Speaker 2: But that's where the audience dropped off. And people were like,
- 33:08Speaker 2: I don't want to see them talking to a psychologist.
- 33:10Speaker 1: I love the inclusion of Bob Harper in it. I
- 33:13Speaker 1: can't believe he's 60.
- 33:15Speaker 2: I know.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I thought he looked so good for 60. Same.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Well, Julian Michaels was a notable absentee. And they put
- 33:22Speaker 2: a lot on her. So they accused her of giving
- 33:24Speaker 2: contestants caffeine tablets. Well, at the time that was highly
- 33:28Speaker 2: documented in the media, but she's come out now and
- 33:30Speaker 2: said she's going to sue. Yeah. She's saying she wants
- 33:33Speaker 2: to sue Bob. She wants to sue Netflix. There's no
- 33:36Speaker 2: love lost between Bob and Jillian, is there? Yeah. So
- 33:40Speaker 2: Bob spoke about how he had this massive heart attack
- 33:42Speaker 2: and he said the only person he didn't hear from
- 33:44Speaker 2: was Jillian Michaels. And then Jillian jumped on her Instagram
- 33:48Speaker 2: after this documentary saying, And she had a screenshot of
- 33:50Speaker 2: her last text message with Bob. And it was basically
- 33:53Speaker 2: her saying, well, Bob, you haven't replied to my text.
- 33:56Speaker 2: This is really sad. I don't agree with what you've done.
- 33:58Speaker 2: So she's implying that Bob is the one.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Who fucked her over.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Imagine how incredible a doco on the Australian Biggest Loser
- 34:06Speaker 2: would be because you, of course, had Michelle Bridges who,
- 34:10Speaker 2: did she leave her husband for the commando and then
- 34:12Speaker 2: they had a relationship? Yeah, and you've got AJ, the
- 34:14Speaker 2: former host. She's already been going to town on TikTok
- 34:17Speaker 2: about it.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Yeah, get her in front of a camera crew.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think sadly a lot of her claims probably
- 34:22Speaker 2: wouldn't make it to TV because they are quite defamatory.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Yeah, well, she's got a big problem with Michelle Bridges
- 34:26Speaker 1: as well.
- 34:27Speaker 2: So, yeah. we're in such a time where we're having
- 34:29Speaker 2: such a reckoning with early 2000s television. Think about the
- 34:33Speaker 2: way we're responding to shows like America's Next Top Model.
- 34:37Speaker 2: And I mean, even just watching The Biggest Loser, it
- 34:40Speaker 2: made me think about how we all used to have
- 34:42Speaker 2: those calorie counting books and how you'd know how many
- 34:45Speaker 2: calories were in everything because they used to list it
- 34:48Speaker 2: on the TV show.
- 34:49Speaker 1: There's so many TikToks.
- 34:49Speaker 2: I've seen and it says, as millennials, no wonder we
- 34:52Speaker 2: feel the way we do about our bodies when this
- 34:54Speaker 2: is what we grew up with.
- 34:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I remember finding out how many calories were in a
- 34:58Speaker 2: milkshake and being like, I'm never having one.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I didn't have one for like 10 years. How ridiculous.
- 35:01Speaker 1: I know.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Yeah, we did have that calorie counter book and we
- 35:04Speaker 2: brought it with us on holiday to Singapore and I
- 35:06Speaker 2: didn't look up a milkshake.
- 35:07Speaker 1: I looked up a hash brown and was horrified. Don't
- 35:10Speaker 1: tell me because I'm eating them again.
- 35:11Speaker 4: No, no.
- 35:12Speaker 1: I have as many hash browns as I want now.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I don't care.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Well, I'm actually getting quite hungry talking about this. So
- 35:17Speaker 2: I think We'll wrap things up there. I'm going to
- 35:20Speaker 2: go have a milkshake and a hash brown just as
- 35:21Speaker 2: a fuck you to the biggest loser. I'd love to
- 35:24Speaker 2: go and drive now and get a milkshake. Well, thank
- 35:27Speaker 2: you again for listening to Outspoken. And if you want
- 35:30Speaker 2: to hear more content from us, we drop a subscriber-only
- 35:33Speaker 2: episode every Thursday, which is basically an extension of our
- 35:37Speaker 2: usual show. This week, we spoke about a lot. We
- 35:40Speaker 2: spoke about Ashy Binds' secret babysitter. We also discussed Sarah's
- 35:45Speaker 2: Day's e-book, Empire, as well as Laura Henshaw's cheeky DM
- 35:49Speaker 2: slide from David Beckham.
- 35:50Speaker 1: We actually talk about the real story behind that. We
- 35:52Speaker 1: debunked it.
- 35:52Speaker 2: And also the phenomenon of influencers setting up pap shots.
- 35:56Speaker 2: So if you do want to subscribe to Outspoken Plus,
- 35:58Speaker 2: all the details are in the show notes. And Amy,
- 36:00Speaker 2: I need to correct you. It's actually $ 5.
- 36:01Speaker 1: 99 a month. The other month you said it was
- 36:04Speaker 1: a discount. So don't hold us to that.
- 36:05Speaker 2: It's basically a dollar something per episode. I love how
- 36:09Speaker 2: you're not committing to the math of that. But yeah,
- 36:12Speaker 2: we drop episodes every week. The math ain't nothing. Yeah,
- 36:14Speaker 2: it's four episodes a month.
- 36:15Speaker 5: So.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Now, this podcast was.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Recorded on the traditional land of the Kaurna people of
- 36:20Speaker 2: the Adelaide Plains. We pay respect to elders past and present.
- 36:23Speaker 2: And if you haven't already, we would love if you
- 36:25Speaker 2: could leave us a five-star review because it really helps
- 36:27Speaker 2: out the show.
