- 0:49Speaker 2: I'm a former Homemark hater.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I just realized that in the episode we recorded for yesterday,
- 0:55Speaker 1: we had no point said what we were talking about.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Great today you're discussing Chicken Sisters episode three.
- 1:05Speaker 2: This is war y'all.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Maybe follow us on Instagram when this podcast is over,
- 1:09Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 1:10Speaker 2: If you hadn't had a chance, I encourage everyone to
- 1:13Speaker 2: check out our website, Girls Gone Hallmark dot com. We
- 1:17Speaker 2: have so much information over there, I mean, anything that
- 1:23Speaker 2: you're looking for, and we were just typing our little
- 1:26Speaker 2: hearts out over there trying to share as much Hallmark information.
- 1:29Speaker 2: If you love our podcast, which we hope you do.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Because you're listening.
- 1:33Speaker 1: We love ratings and reviews so much you can leave
- 1:36Speaker 1: them in the Apple podcast app.
- 1:38Speaker 2: A word of warning.
- 1:39Speaker 1: After you type in your review and click submit, it
- 1:41Speaker 1: will take a day or two for it to be
- 1:44Speaker 1: approved and to post. But one that just came through
- 1:47Speaker 1: is a five star review that says, thank you Megan
- 1:50Speaker 1: and Monday for always keeping it real. I love your
- 1:52Speaker 1: honest review.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Hey, I'm glad we can make somebody happy. I'm going
- 1:57Speaker 2: to keep it real with this episode too. Oh Chicken
- 2:00Speaker 2: Sisters episodes.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Let me tell you if you were not in our
- 2:04Speaker 1: Facebook group, that's where all the hot goss is getting spelled.
- 2:08Speaker 1: And I have to say that there was a lot
- 2:10Speaker 1: of chatter about this episode. There's a lot of talk
- 2:13Speaker 1: about this, a lot of talk about the gene mysteries,
- 2:14Speaker 1: a lot of talk about falling together.
- 2:16Speaker 2: And I'm gonna like put on my box and gloves.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Oh interesting, let's talk An episode synopsis for Chicken Sisters episode.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Three, either titled This is Warriyaw or Desperado.
- 2:31Speaker 2: We're gonna get into my complaints here real quick, but
- 2:34Speaker 2: let me read the synopsis. Franny's and Mimi's crews try
- 2:40Speaker 2: to one up each other as the kitchen Clash competition
- 2:44Speaker 2: amps up, but their methods leave sisters Amanda and May conflicted.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Okay, should we dive into our back end complaints?
- 2:53Speaker 2: Sure, you want me to go first.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Can you somebody at Hallmark figure out what we're calling
- 3:00Speaker 2: these episodes? Like, can there be some consistencies somewhere like
- 3:05Speaker 2: we mentioned on last week's episode on IMDb? Now IMDb
- 3:10Speaker 2: is like user generated content, right, anybody can put that
- 3:15Speaker 2: information in there. But whoever named these episodes on IMDb,
- 3:21Speaker 2: It's completely different than what Hallmark is calling them. So
- 3:25Speaker 2: can we just figure it out? That's my first complaint.
- 3:30Speaker 2: The second complaint is Hallmark pr is not updating their
- 3:35Speaker 2: information on their press release site for these episodes. Uh huh.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I was telling Megan yesterday off Mike, I was like,
- 3:46Speaker 2: the writer and director is completely different in this particular
- 3:50Speaker 2: episode than it is on the press release. Yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 1: The credits of the episode show different names than the
- 3:55Speaker 1: press release does. Yes, so let's talk about that. According
- 3:59Speaker 1: to the opening credits of the show, this episode was
- 4:03Speaker 1: written by Jessica Wood and directed by Paul Fox. The
- 4:06Speaker 1: press release still lists Annie McBain as the writer and
- 4:10Speaker 1: Kimmy Gatewood as the director.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I just think it's like sloppy. I just yeah,
- 4:15Speaker 2: give credit words. Do you want to be able to
- 4:17Speaker 2: give credit whereds? Do? I don't want to be on
- 4:19Speaker 2: hair saying Kimmy Gatewood directed this and she didn't, and.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Then it makes us look bad and then we get
- 4:24Speaker 1: messages and sometimes it's our fault. But in this case,
- 4:27Speaker 1: we're doing our best. The information is inconsistent.
- 4:30Speaker 2: What did you say about Hallmark yesterday? You thought they
- 4:33Speaker 2: were maybe flying too close to the sun? Oh, I
- 4:36Speaker 2: said Hallmark.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yes, Hallmark said a lot on their plate, and I
- 4:38Speaker 1: just that was my exact comment. Hallmark may have flown
- 4:40Speaker 1: too close to the sun with this season, with dropping
- 4:43Speaker 1: Hallmark plus with dropping so much new content.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Now that being said, the.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Number of people who care about what we care about
- 4:52Speaker 1: hosting the actual content.
- 4:53Speaker 2: As a real minuscule. Sure, So from a consumer.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Standpoint, I'm all in on a company that wants to
- 5:01Speaker 1: give me more content. Yeah, nobody but us really cares
- 5:04Speaker 1: about this stuff. There's such a small percentage of people
- 5:06Speaker 1: that are digging into this information.
- 5:08Speaker 2: It's us and I'm sure Jessica would and Paul Fox,
- 5:11Speaker 2: who actually worked on I'm sure they care. Yes, we
- 5:15Speaker 2: just want everybody to get in line, that's all. Yeah,
- 5:19Speaker 2: a couple more news and notes.
- 5:20Speaker 1: We do meet two new characters in this episode, Pastor McGregor,
- 5:26Speaker 1: who was played by Matthew James Dowd, and he is
- 5:28Speaker 1: a handful of Hallmark projects like Dream Mom's The Holidaysitter
- 5:31Speaker 1: and When Calls the Heart and IMDb tells us we
- 5:34Speaker 1: will see him again in episodes five and eight.
- 5:37Speaker 2: We also met Jervis, who I called the Chicken Guy.
- 5:40Speaker 2: He's the chicken farmer guy, the chicken distributor. He has
- 5:44Speaker 2: absolutely no credit on IMDb, so I wish I could
- 5:48Speaker 2: tell you what his name is. I don't know it.
- 5:50Speaker 2: We also Gruster, Gruster, You're right, he was not listed
- 5:56Speaker 2: on IMDb either. That's why it takes me six hours
- 5:59Speaker 2: to prep for movies is because I look at one site,
- 6:02Speaker 2: and then I look at another site, and then I
- 6:04Speaker 2: cross checked to see anything listed anywhere, and there was it.
- 6:10Speaker 2: So shout out justice for Jervis, justice for Jarvis and Gruster.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Let's take a quick break and we'll come right back
- 6:18Speaker 1: with more Chicken sisters. All right, let's dive into some
- 6:30Speaker 1: key events in this episode. Okay, this episode focuses really strongly,
- 6:36Speaker 1: I feel, on the differences between May and Amanda in
- 6:40Speaker 1: their personalities and what we see. The long and short
- 6:45Speaker 1: of it is May is always looking towards her future.
- 6:48Speaker 1: She's looking towards the next thing, like what's next, What's next,
- 6:51Speaker 1: bigger and better?
- 6:52Speaker 2: And Aana lives.
- 6:54Speaker 1: In her memories right, real focused on the sentimentality and
- 6:57Speaker 1: then the memories, and what I I liked is it
- 7:01Speaker 1: gives us some insight as to perhaps why Amanda is
- 7:09Speaker 1: stuck in this relationship where she's very clearly unhappy. We
- 7:14Speaker 1: have this whole arc with Frank Junior that we'll talk about,
- 7:16Speaker 1: but towards the end it comes back around and the
- 7:18Speaker 1: narrator calls Frank Junior's sentimental brick of bract brack is
- 7:22Speaker 1: like a.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Like a chut. I see it's good, so right.
- 7:26Speaker 1: That's just part. She's living in the memories like how
- 7:29Speaker 1: she fell for him and he's not that person anymore,
- 7:32Speaker 1: and we obviously see that she finally decides he actually
- 7:35Speaker 1: isn't that person. Frank Junior is a real, big, strong
- 7:41Speaker 1: part of this episode.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Sure, and how did.
- 7:44Speaker 1: You feel about what's happening with Frank Junior here?
- 7:48Speaker 2: Well, my first question is, does Frank have a problem
- 7:51Speaker 2: with alcohol? And they're like tiptoeing around it. I didn't
- 7:56Speaker 2: find them to be tiptoeing around it. Okay, why aren't
- 7:59Speaker 2: we just out addressing it. Then we saw it in
- 8:02Speaker 2: the first episode he was drinking when Amanda came home
- 8:07Speaker 2: and like was kind of real shitty to Amanda. And
- 8:10Speaker 2: then we see it in this episode where his mom Nancy. First, okay,
- 8:15Speaker 2: let me back it up. She gives him that sign
- 8:17Speaker 2: how to be a great businessman or whatever it is, right,
- 8:20Speaker 2: and one of the like lines on it is to
- 8:23Speaker 2: the Gentleman's Guides to business, serve your customers and not
- 8:26Speaker 2: yourself or whatever. Right, And so he kind of steps
- 8:30Speaker 2: into this like, yeah, I'm gonna take over my daddy's
- 8:34Speaker 2: role for literally one day, and tells his mom go
- 8:39Speaker 2: ahead and go home. I'm going to close up the restaurant.
- 8:42Speaker 2: She comes back because she has forgotten something and he's there,
- 8:46Speaker 2: like six beers in and she's like, what happened? What
- 8:49Speaker 2: are you doing? So, like the whole Frank storyline, it's
- 8:54Speaker 2: just only scratching the surface, like I need to This
- 8:57Speaker 2: is my whole entire problem with this episode. Too, and
- 9:00Speaker 2: I will talk about it, but it's just scratching the surface.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I need more information.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I think you're right.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I don't think we've dug in enough on Frank Junior
- 9:07Speaker 1: because we're so focused on the Amanda and May and
- 9:10Speaker 1: Mimi's and Franny's war of it all. Like I think
- 9:12Speaker 1: we're really deep on the Amanda and May rivalry. They
- 9:16Speaker 1: made other references, like when they start filming in another
- 9:20Speaker 1: episode at Franny's and they're like, you know, they just
- 9:23Speaker 1: want Frank to keep it together.
- 9:25Speaker 2: For me.
- 9:25Speaker 1: The whole Frank thing, I was like, I didn't believe
- 9:28Speaker 1: it because his mom brings him this sign and you're right,
- 9:31Speaker 1: He's like, I'm going to be a better man because
- 9:33Speaker 1: my daddy. And he puts on the shirt his mom
- 9:36Speaker 1: gives him, and.
- 9:37Speaker 2: He like is sweet to Amanda. He's like the morning sunshine.
- 9:40Speaker 2: It's not who this guy is.
- 9:42Speaker 1: This guy's like, I'm not going to in my mind,
- 9:44Speaker 1: the Frank that we know is the kind of guy
- 9:47Speaker 1: who's gonna be like, I'm not gonna do this for you, like,
- 9:50Speaker 1: stop trying to change who I am. And I maybe
- 9:53Speaker 1: it's because his mom was like giving him a chance
- 9:55Speaker 1: to like be the he just feels really beaten down
- 9:58Speaker 1: to me, Like he just to me, he seems really
- 10:01Speaker 1: unhappy in his life, really unhappy, like his wife's not
- 10:05Speaker 1: good enough, his job's not good enough, nobody takes him seriously,
- 10:08Speaker 1: and so maybe this was his chance to like be
- 10:12Speaker 1: the person he thinks he deserves to.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Be, which is his dad.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I just didn't believe that he was going to buy
- 10:18Speaker 1: in that quickly.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Frank's a piece of shit.
- 10:21Speaker 1: And then he's like, don't worry, I'll clean up. And
- 10:23Speaker 1: then he realizes, oh, this is hard work, and a
- 10:26Speaker 1: man is like, yeah, no shit, I've been doing every
- 10:29Speaker 1: single freaking night. Yeah, this is where the hell have
- 10:33Speaker 1: you been? Right, And then that's the point in what
- 10:35Speaker 1: she like breaks down and then he's mad at the world.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, and she gets in turn mad at him. Yeah.
- 10:41Speaker 2: And we'll talk about her in a minute. But if
- 10:44Speaker 2: I can just further say, I need Nancy to pull
- 10:48Speaker 2: up her big girl panties and lay into Frank. Nancy's
- 10:52Speaker 2: the mom. Yes, she's so like delicate with him, but
- 10:57Speaker 2: this is an adult who is as a terrible human
- 11:01Speaker 2: to me.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Yeah, And we're coming in at like acts three, right,
- 11:05Speaker 1: because this is who Frank has been. This isn't new behavior, right,
- 11:09Speaker 1: It's who he is. Now.
- 11:10Speaker 2: We just met him.
- 11:11Speaker 1: We just met Frank, and we just met Nancy, and
- 11:13Speaker 1: we just met all of these people. But this is
- 11:15Speaker 1: the man that Nancy's been living with and around for
- 11:18Speaker 1: so long. And I agree she's just giving him chance
- 11:21Speaker 1: after chance after chanceh Honey, I thought you might like this, son,
- 11:26Speaker 1: Sure you might like you show them who you are
- 11:29Speaker 1: with your knowledge.
- 11:30Speaker 2: About taps as a mall.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I can understand wanting the best for your kids.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and I can imagine how.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Hard it would be to be like, get your shit together,
- 11:39Speaker 1: you suck.
- 11:40Speaker 2: But at the same time, if I saw.
- 11:42Speaker 1: My son treating his wife the way Frank treats Amanda,
- 11:46Speaker 1: I'd be like.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Absolutely not. Yeah, but I think this is where I
- 11:50Speaker 2: think that Frank Senior must have treated Nancy that way. Oh,
- 11:54Speaker 2: we don't have a backstory on that, and we don't
- 11:57Speaker 2: know that, but I feel like patterns repeat them. And
- 12:02Speaker 2: also I think maybe the culture there allows for men
- 12:10Speaker 2: to not treat their wives that great.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Yeah, because what is Frank Junior's origin story? What caused
- 12:17Speaker 1: him to be just this kind of shell of a person,
- 12:20Speaker 1: who's so unhappy.
- 12:21Speaker 2: With his life. Is it is it that.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Frank Sor treated Nancy that way?
- 12:26Speaker 2: We don't know.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Is it that he just kind of expected because it
- 12:30Speaker 1: seems to me like Frank Senior was respected in town.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Even Frank Junior's like, you're not daddy, Like to Nay,
- 12:38Speaker 1: that was.
- 12:39Speaker 2: The meanest comment ever. I would have my head would
- 12:43Speaker 2: have blown off my shoulders if my kid would have
- 12:46Speaker 2: said something like that to me.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but so where is all of this coming from? Like,
- 12:50Speaker 1: what did you want out of life that you don't have?
- 12:52Speaker 2: What is so disappointing? Yeah, we don't have any contexts.
- 12:55Speaker 2: And I you've read the book, but it's wildly different. Yeah,
- 13:00Speaker 2: Bring Junior's not in the book. Yeah, he's good. So
- 13:03Speaker 2: we just don't know. I have Gus and maybe in
- 13:05Speaker 2: a key event like their stuff. Yeah. I was kind
- 13:11Speaker 2: of heartbroken for Gus A little me too.
- 13:14Speaker 1: You know, all this time, Gus is gruff, she's tough, right,
- 13:18Speaker 1: but I felt like she was touched by May making
- 13:22Speaker 1: the choice to come home.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Mmm.
- 13:24Speaker 1: And when Gus sees the truth behind May's motivation to
- 13:29Speaker 1: come home and realizes, you didn't do.
- 13:31Speaker 2: This for me, You did this for you, m h.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I really felt for her. I did too, because we
- 13:37Speaker 2: see Gus throughout the entire entire episode kind of ride
- 13:41Speaker 2: for May. Like she hears like two women talking about
- 13:45Speaker 2: me and she says something to them, and then she's
- 13:49Speaker 2: like proud of May's success. And I think she's thankful
- 13:55Speaker 2: for May helping financially with the for the chickens and
- 14:01Speaker 2: all that stuff, whatever she's helping on. She's really proud
- 14:04Speaker 2: of May. I think she's happy May's back. And then
- 14:08Speaker 2: when she comes to the realization via Amanda that May
- 14:14Speaker 2: is just there for one reason only and to get
- 14:17Speaker 2: back on TV, it felt for Gus. I really felt
- 14:21Speaker 2: for Gus.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and May, like we really realized like kind of
- 14:26Speaker 1: how self centered May is.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Here flashback to Kenneth coming to visit her. He's like,
- 14:32Speaker 2: I'll get.
- 14:33Speaker 1: You next time, like he's already there. Yeah, And she
- 14:36Speaker 1: did it only because she was so ashamed of the
- 14:38Speaker 1: job right she had taken. And I laughed out loud
- 14:43Speaker 1: when they're like you gotta do the Donka Donk dance,
- 14:46Speaker 1: but Kenneth is like whatever, man, Like we all have
- 14:49Speaker 1: jobs that we just got to do to get by,
- 14:51Speaker 1: Like I.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Was your friend. Yeah, to me, May operates on secrets.
- 14:56Speaker 2: She does not want to live in her truth at
- 14:59Speaker 2: all about like where she comes from or how she
- 15:02Speaker 2: got there to where she's at now, Like she operates
- 15:06Speaker 2: even with her fiance.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Yes, and he's like, this weird charge just came through
- 15:11Speaker 1: on your card.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Is it some farm to a table place?
- 15:15Speaker 1: And then he was like, it's all right, you can
- 15:16Speaker 1: get him out of it, don't you guys know?
- 15:17Speaker 2: The governor? Yeah, how can you live a life like this?
- 15:20Speaker 2: I don't know. And we just talked about it when
- 15:22Speaker 2: we reviewed Danube, about like giving grace when you're fudging,
- 15:27Speaker 2: like the truth a little bit. May's gone too far
- 15:30Speaker 2: at this point, like that would break up a relationship.
- 15:33Speaker 2: This isn't so much. She's just met no cage.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and she's made up all these lies about why
- 15:38Speaker 1: he doesn't know them and where she comes from, right,
- 15:41Speaker 1: And it just comes from a place of shame. And
- 15:45Speaker 1: it doesn't make you look better to look down on
- 15:49Speaker 1: your origins and to look down on your family.
- 15:51Speaker 2: I mean, I get it. There's a lot of people
- 15:54Speaker 2: who are not proud of where they come from.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Right, But you're not better than those people. Agree, Particularly look,
- 16:04Speaker 1: Gus has issues, And I would imagine that growing up
- 16:07Speaker 1: in a house like that would be traumatic and would
- 16:10Speaker 1: be unstable, and you wouldn't be the kind of place
- 16:14Speaker 1: you'd want to bring friends home to, and it wouldn't
- 16:16Speaker 1: be the kind of home you'd come home after school.
- 16:18Speaker 2: And feel like you could relax and feel safe. Right.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I get all of that, but that none of that
- 16:23Speaker 1: makes Gus a bad person. That made Gus a person
- 16:26Speaker 1: who was dealing with some shit. And I still think
- 16:28Speaker 1: we don't we haven't been given all of the information
- 16:31Speaker 1: about why Gus is the way that she is. But
- 16:35Speaker 1: you just look down on all of these people.
- 16:39Speaker 2: It makes me unlikable. Yes, I want to talk about
- 16:43Speaker 2: the scene where May goes to Gus's house and they're
- 16:48Speaker 2: standing in the doorway, right, and finally, like we the
- 16:53Speaker 2: door opens to Gus's house and you see it's just
- 16:57Speaker 2: packed to the to the front door. Yeah, all the
- 17:01Speaker 2: way up. Feelings like she obviously has a hoarding issue there,
- 17:07Speaker 2: that all of that is very dark, and like I
- 17:12Speaker 2: said before, like we're just scratching the surface. Like I
- 17:15Speaker 2: feel like I need more, I honestly need less hygienks
- 17:21Speaker 2: in terms of like pranking and all that stuff, the
- 17:24Speaker 2: whole kitchen clash, rivalry, nonsense, get me into I need
- 17:30Speaker 2: more into the like this family history. And I was
- 17:35Speaker 2: thinking about this. I was thinking about The Way Home.
- 17:38Speaker 2: And I know we have had two seasons of The
- 17:40Speaker 2: Way Home at this point, but when I think about
- 17:42Speaker 2: Dell and Kat and how their relationship is strained and
- 17:46Speaker 2: it's filled with her and pain and they've hurt each other,
- 17:51Speaker 2: it gives way more context to the story that's being
- 17:55Speaker 2: presented in that show than what we have here. Like
- 17:59Speaker 2: I I feel like this show was promoted as this
- 18:04Speaker 2: like rival restaurants and what's gonna come of that, and
- 18:10Speaker 2: not really like this dark history of this family. Yes,
- 18:15Speaker 2: it's just not getting there for me well.
- 18:17Speaker 1: And I also think when you think about The Way
- 18:19Speaker 1: Home versus The Chicken Sisters, the Chicken Sisters is trying to.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Do a lot.
- 18:22Speaker 1: The Way Home is about Kat and Dell and Alice,
- 18:25Speaker 1: and yes, there's a lot of other characters involved, but
- 18:28Speaker 1: at the heart of it, it's about the three of them,
- 18:30Speaker 1: and they focus really strongly on the three of them,
- 18:33Speaker 1: and they wait to build out a lot of those
- 18:37Speaker 1: other relationships. It takes some time before we learn more
- 18:41Speaker 1: about Colton it takes time before we learn more about Elliott,
- 18:44Speaker 1: and I don't feel like this show has done that,
- 18:48Speaker 1: and I think probably because.
- 18:50Speaker 2: It is written.
- 18:51Speaker 1: It's a book adaptation as opposed to a show that
- 18:55Speaker 1: was written directly for television and trying to stay true.
- 18:59Speaker 1: We we're thrown into the fire of this first episode,
- 19:04Speaker 1: and there's May and Amanda. There's Amanda and Gus. There's
- 19:07Speaker 1: May and Gus. There's Amanda and Frank, there's Nancy and Frank.
- 19:10Speaker 1: There's all of these these relationships, and we're trying.
- 19:14Speaker 2: To do it. Kenneth and May.
- 19:15Speaker 1: We're trying to do so much right now, May and
- 19:18Speaker 1: Jay that it's all surfacing.
- 19:20Speaker 2: It is very surfaced.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I still enjoy the show, and perhaps it's because
- 19:27Speaker 1: I've read the book, because I know where that story goes,
- 19:31Speaker 1: that I still believe in our ability to bring it
- 19:34Speaker 1: all back around. This episode, like you said, was so
- 19:38Speaker 1: heavy on hygienks. I'm like, stop pranking each other. You
- 19:40Speaker 1: are adult women. This is ridiculous. Like you're gonna go
- 19:43Speaker 1: in and sabotage the sweet tea. That doesn't even seem
- 19:48Speaker 1: like Amanda like behavior to me, right, But then you
- 19:51Speaker 1: see all of these women at their breaking point, Like
- 19:54Speaker 1: May is at her breaking point with Gus and is like,
- 19:56Speaker 1: this is why I never came home. This is not
- 19:58Speaker 1: a safe place for me. Amanda has her moment where
- 20:02Speaker 1: she's like, my mom disowned me because I married someone
- 20:04Speaker 1: who worked for a different chicken restaurant. My sister left
- 20:08Speaker 1: and is ashamed of us. My husband sucks. Like you
- 20:10Speaker 1: can kind of see why she's at her breaking point.
- 20:12Speaker 1: And I felt like the scene at the end where
- 20:15Speaker 1: she starts destroying things that Mimi's felt more like the
- 20:20Speaker 1: kind of reaction a woman who was like, my life
- 20:22Speaker 1: is out of control and it is not the life
- 20:25Speaker 1: I wanted than like tainting the sweet tea.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so let's talk about that. A scene my note, say,
- 20:33Speaker 2: Amanda's good girl run comes to an end.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Oh she mine says, oh shit, the kiss.
- 20:38Speaker 2: In all caps. Well, we'll get there. She fights with
- 20:42Speaker 2: Frank Junior, right because they he has convinced her, Yeah,
- 20:46Speaker 2: let's go, let's go back, let's do whatever this this
- 20:50Speaker 2: like unknown sabotage.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Frank's like pissed and he I feel like he's he's
- 20:56Speaker 2: egging Amanda on, like Okay, we're gonna go do this. Yeah,
- 20:59Speaker 2: let's go do this, do this, and any flakes. Right,
- 21:02Speaker 2: So she's pissed, but now is she really pissed enough
- 21:06Speaker 2: to like go and destroy things at her mother's restaurant.
- 21:12Speaker 1: It's so extreme, but it's gets so extreation of Like
- 21:16Speaker 1: she's like, this town has always judged me because I
- 21:19Speaker 1: was a Mimi's girl. Then I became a Frannies girl
- 21:21Speaker 1: and my mom disowned me, and all of these things
- 21:24Speaker 1: are piling up and she's like, what do you want
- 21:26Speaker 1: from me?
- 21:27Speaker 2: I hear you. I just don't think it was executed
- 21:29Speaker 2: that well. But at the same time, I'm like, would
- 21:31Speaker 2: you really do this to your mom? Like knowing they
- 21:34Speaker 2: had her like slashing like bags of flower but she
- 21:39Speaker 2: was going to unplug the refrigerator for all their stuff
- 21:42Speaker 2: to spoil. Like that's just cold and heartless. That's beyond
- 21:46Speaker 2: like putting salt in the sweet tea or whatever she
- 21:49Speaker 2: did to it, you know, sister painting over her son. Yeah,
- 21:53Speaker 2: it was.
- 21:54Speaker 1: But then even beyond this, Sergio walks in and catches her, yeah,
- 21:59Speaker 1: and they have the steamy kiss, like he lifts her
- 22:01Speaker 1: on the counter, and I was like, I can't even
- 22:04Speaker 1: be excited about this. No, she's still married. Like, I
- 22:07Speaker 1: understand you're mad, but it doesn't excuse to be like
- 22:12Speaker 1: you're cheating, your big old cheater.
- 22:14Speaker 2: To me, her kissing him, like I know that they
- 22:18Speaker 2: have been kind of like sparring a little bit, And
- 22:21Speaker 2: I say sparring on as like fighting, but like flirting
- 22:24Speaker 2: whise right for the last couple episodes. To me, she's
- 22:28Speaker 2: not attracted to him, like she doesn't want to like
- 22:31Speaker 2: have an affair with him because she has feelings for
- 22:34Speaker 2: this guy. I think she's just pissed at Frank Junior,
- 22:39Speaker 2: and so she's like, yeah, I'm gonna get back. This
- 22:41Speaker 2: is how many back at you.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it was weird because I didn't find the first
- 22:46Speaker 1: couple episodes I thought there was like, oh, some interest brewing,
- 22:49Speaker 1: But in this episode, I didn't find there to be
- 22:53Speaker 1: steaminess between.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Two of them. And No, he was annoyed with her,
- 22:57Speaker 2: yeah time, especially when he confronts her when she's sitting
- 22:59Speaker 2: in the car like laughing and watching all the customers
- 23:02Speaker 2: like coming out because they had bad tea or whatever,
- 23:04Speaker 2: and he's like, what are you doing?
- 23:05Speaker 1: Yeah, like why are you doing this to your mom?
- 23:08Speaker 1: Like that makes you look real ugly? M M uh,
- 23:12Speaker 1: like win on your own merit.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Yeah, So it was kind of weird that he like
- 23:16Speaker 2: grabbed her and they had this like.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Yes because even like she runs that lady over and
- 23:21Speaker 1: he walks hero, He's like, you owe me. But like
- 23:23Speaker 1: that's kind of a funny moment, right that she like
- 23:25Speaker 1: backs into her and he's like, now he's got to
- 23:27Speaker 1: be her boy toy for the afternoon. Yeah, but I
- 23:30Speaker 1: was like, you this moment of like we didn't make
- 23:33Speaker 1: up for it.
- 23:34Speaker 2: I don't know, I didn't love it.
- 23:35Speaker 1: And as much as I'm kind of like, yeah, Frank sucks,
- 23:39Speaker 1: I wish Amanda was with someone who appreciated her for
- 23:42Speaker 1: who she is.
- 23:42Speaker 2: This isn't what I wanted. Mm hmm. Yeah. I can't
- 23:45Speaker 2: even get excited. I've watched plenty of shows where I
- 23:50Speaker 2: get excited that somebody's like having an a fair. It
- 23:52Speaker 2: makes it it's salacious. You get like like I'm not
- 23:55Speaker 2: gonna be like grabbing my pearls and being like, oh
- 23:57Speaker 2: my god, they're having a fair. I can't watch this stuff. Yeah,
- 24:00Speaker 2: Like I can be entertained by entertainment that is not
- 24:04Speaker 2: morally correct.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Wasn't earned, And I agree, absolutely agree. I feel like
- 24:10Speaker 1: this was a moment that should have come.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Drag it out later. Yeah, yeah, I'm curious to see
- 24:17Speaker 2: where it's all going. Well, how about Nancy sees them
- 24:21Speaker 2: and knocks on the door, Hello, I see you, Yes,
- 24:28Speaker 2: my gosh. Yeah.
- 24:30Speaker 1: So that's the part that it's like that feels rushed
- 24:33Speaker 1: to me because now I got Nancy knows, so there's
- 24:35Speaker 1: no secret. Yeah, it's not like she's carrying around this secret.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Nancy knows. Yeah, I don't know how Amanda's gonna go
- 24:44Speaker 2: to Nancy with her tail between her legs and be
- 24:47Speaker 2: like I'm so souleriating don't you see that happening?
- 24:50Speaker 3: I do, And I'm I'm envisioning the scene because Nancy
- 24:54Speaker 3: was almost to the point after Frank saying you're no daddy,
- 25:01Speaker 3: It was almost to the point where Nancy was like
- 25:03Speaker 3: done right, Like you could see like all right.
- 25:06Speaker 2: I tried. Yeah, but she doesn't leave mad. She's like disappointed.
- 25:11Speaker 2: It's Dody peacoat or whatever whatever it is.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Yes, but I certainly think she's disappointed, like he has
- 25:18Speaker 1: thrown this at her and she was like I've done
- 25:20Speaker 1: everything for you. But I could see that being the
- 25:23Speaker 1: moment where she's like I'm done. I'm team Amanda here
- 25:26Speaker 1: and then Amanda goes and ruins it. But the other
- 25:28Speaker 1: thing Frank Junior said that I forgot that was so terrible?
- 25:31Speaker 1: Is he says about Amanda they were lucky to have
- 25:35Speaker 1: me classing up their family tree?
- 25:38Speaker 2: Mmmmm, I was like, what a term? Totally question. What
- 25:42Speaker 2: was Nancy going to Mimi's for that night? She going
- 25:46Speaker 2: over there? Did Frank see that Amanda was over there
- 25:49Speaker 2: doing like ruining things?
- 25:53Speaker 1: And I don't think he told her specifically, But I
- 25:58Speaker 1: don't know if she was going over to stop something?
- 26:01Speaker 2: Yeah, was she going over there to stop something? Or
- 26:03Speaker 2: was she going over there to try to get her
- 26:05Speaker 2: money back for overpaying for the chicken or what was
- 26:10Speaker 2: her motivation for being there? I don't know. I don't think.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I don't think she'd begin trying to get her money
- 26:15Speaker 1: back because I think she knows that Gus needed.
- 26:18Speaker 2: That money because Amanda Saba true lunch rush. I don't know.
- 26:24Speaker 2: I have one more even Let's talk about Sabrina first.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, a Sabrina continues to produce the hell out
- 26:30Speaker 2: of this show. Obviously, she I don't want to say
- 26:35Speaker 2: she didn't blackmail her own daughter, but she encouraged her
- 26:38Speaker 2: own daughter to. I mean, she obviously wanted the pranks
- 26:42Speaker 2: and the sabotage to happen. She saw that Frankie was
- 26:46Speaker 2: telling her mom, calling her mom out on it. She
- 26:48Speaker 2: wanted to get Frankie out of the situation so Amanda
- 26:51Speaker 2: would continue to do this stuff to make for TV.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Right when we see that flashback of Sabrina offering Lindsay
- 26:59Speaker 1: the opportunity get her phone back, having seen the moments
- 27:03Speaker 1: between Lindsay and Frankie where Lindsay was kind of trying
- 27:05Speaker 1: to be the better person, else like, yeah, well, I
- 27:07Speaker 1: feel so bad for Frankie.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and a shitty thing to do. She's like, oh,
- 27:12Speaker 2: you actually have talent. Yeah, I feel bad for her.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Ohs I know, not great, not too great. I am
- 27:22Speaker 2: on the flip side, interested in seeing something blossomed between
- 27:24Speaker 2: Sabrina and Gruster. Me too. I wrote, oh new character
- 27:28Speaker 2: unlaw Yeah, I'm into that. But then again, I'm not
- 27:32Speaker 2: into that because too many things going on in a
- 27:35Speaker 2: forty five minute episode. It's hard. It's hard now. If
- 27:41Speaker 2: I can mention our Facebook group, somebody was like, I'm
- 27:46Speaker 2: having a really hard time getting into the show because
- 27:48Speaker 2: no one is likable, and I have to agree with that,
- 27:53Speaker 2: with the exception of Kenneth. I like Kenneth, oh yeah.
- 27:57Speaker 2: And I know Sabrina is not supposed to be like either,
- 28:00Speaker 2: but she's fun. But she's fun to watch. But your
- 28:06Speaker 2: major players, I don't like any of them.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Even Nancy, who seems like she's the most easily likable.
- 28:13Speaker 2: You just want to smack her. I want to shake
- 28:16Speaker 2: her and be like, wake up.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Don't let your child walk all over you.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Right if. Maybe Gus is the only person that I'm
- 28:25Speaker 2: kind of rooting for, that's interesting only because Gus is
- 28:31Speaker 2: dealing with a lot of stuff. I am. I'm rooting
- 28:35Speaker 2: for her in terms of helping her in her current situation.
- 28:41Speaker 2: But I don't. I don't really like a May. I
- 28:43Speaker 2: don't like May. I don't I really don't like Amanda.
- 28:47Speaker 2: This is this is their key star on this show,
- 28:51Speaker 2: and I don't like her. I'm curious to see the turnaround.
- 28:56Speaker 2: I hope there is one. I hope there is one
- 28:59Speaker 2: for me. Are you ready to move on? I am
- 29:02Speaker 2: to collect worthy moments. I have two. Actually, I really
- 29:10Speaker 2: enjoyed the flashback with Kenneth in New York City and
- 29:13Speaker 2: the whole Sex and the City was so funny. It
- 29:17Speaker 2: was so funny to me, we'd have them pre made
- 29:19Speaker 2: for the tourists. I thought it was hilarious. I thought
- 29:23Speaker 2: it was really funny. The other part, and I mentioned
- 29:26Speaker 2: the other scene or moment that I mentioned earlier, was
- 29:29Speaker 2: when we see inside of Gus's house and her it
- 29:32Speaker 2: was very emotional. I thought it was the pullback. Yeah, standing, yeah,
- 29:39Speaker 2: and she just has to let may have her moment
- 29:42Speaker 2: and then are you finished? And she shuts the doors. Yeah,
- 29:46Speaker 2: that was great, how about you? Those are both great.
- 29:50Speaker 2: I mentioned this. I the narrator has a lot of
- 29:52Speaker 2: great moments. I'm glad we have the.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Narrator keeping things going in the background. The through line
- 30:00Speaker 1: about giving us a little more insight into why Amanda
- 30:04Speaker 1: puts up with the things that she does. When she
- 30:07Speaker 1: calls frank emotional bric a brac is an amazing line,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and I like. I also like that Frankie is kind
- 30:15Speaker 1: of this good girl, right like she even though she's
- 30:18Speaker 1: gotten in trouble and she's like, yes, Mammy, her mom.
- 30:22Speaker 1: She also was working the system when she brings out
- 30:25Speaker 1: she knows that the photo album is gonna distract her mom.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Enough to get her off her case, and so we
- 30:34Speaker 1: get that inside of like, yeah, I'm a good student,
- 30:37Speaker 1: I'm getting out of this town, but.
- 30:39Speaker 2: I'm still a teenager who's going to manipulate the hell
- 30:41Speaker 2: out of my mom. Sure.
- 30:43Speaker 1: I also thought the line May says to Kenneth, we
- 30:46Speaker 1: were children and now our skincare regimes include Retina.
- 30:49Speaker 2: It's great, that was great. That was great. Who's your father?
- 30:53Speaker 2: Friend of the week? For me, it's Jake Foy as Kenneth.
- 30:58Speaker 2: I think he brings a nice levity to the sh
- 31:00Speaker 2: show when it's needed. He's he's very funny, like I
- 31:05Speaker 2: wish he had a bigger role, actually you.
- 31:08Speaker 1: For me, it's Sergio because he's the only one calling
- 31:10Speaker 1: these people on their shit, and he really gets up
- 31:14Speaker 1: in Amanda's face, like what are you doing to your mom?
- 31:16Speaker 1: Like the whole point is this stupid kitchen competition.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I have a question for you, and I know
- 31:21Speaker 2: you read the book. How big does the show play
- 31:27Speaker 2: in the book as big as it does here? It's
- 31:30Speaker 2: not very big. I feel like we never see them.
- 31:34Speaker 2: First of all, they're hardly in the restaurant, working hardly.
- 31:39Speaker 1: But it's everything is because of the show.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Like, no, I understand that, and I I'm trying to
- 31:46Speaker 2: envision because I thought like this reality kitchen class show
- 31:50Speaker 2: was going to be like about cooking.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Right. Yeah, So in the book, which I think is
- 31:57Speaker 1: what's happening here, they spend a couple of days like
- 31:59Speaker 1: getting to know the people they do, like watching.
- 32:01Speaker 2: The run of the restaurant.
- 32:03Speaker 1: And then they have they bring in judges with an
- 32:05Speaker 1: actual Oh okay, so I think we might be leading
- 32:08Speaker 1: up to that.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Okay, can this go for a season two?
- 32:12Speaker 1: Well, I'm talked about this before, but the book ends
- 32:15Speaker 1: there's kind of a change of direction, and so I
- 32:20Speaker 1: think it can.
- 32:21Speaker 2: But does the source of conflict is going to change?
- 32:24Speaker 2: The kitchen clash part gets completely eliminated from it. Yeah, Okay,
- 32:29Speaker 2: we don't rate these, do we. Nope? Okay, I'm hoping
- 32:34Speaker 2: it turns around for me a little bit because first
- 32:37Speaker 2: episode I loved, second episode, third episode, I'm I'm I'm hoping.
- 32:46Speaker 2: I'm hoping it comes together. We shall see New Chicken
- 32:50Speaker 2: Sisters review out next week. Come back for that. We'll
- 32:52Speaker 2: see you next time. Goodbye bye?
- 33:06Speaker 1: All right, friends, Before we go, just a quick heads up,
- 33:08Speaker 1: you're about to hear some ads these little gems help
- 33:10Speaker 1: us keep the show running and the Hallmark love flowing.
- 33:14Speaker 1: So do with that info what you will, Grab a snack,
- 33:17Speaker 1: hit the skip button, or maybe just maybe listen in
- 33:20Speaker 1: and discover your new favorite product.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Bye.
