- 1:05Speaker 2: I'm really excited to talk to them about how they

- 1:13Speaker 2: the scenes on this show, any advice they could give.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I just want to know all the things, and I
- 1:19Speaker 2: really wish I could do this in person. But Zoom
- 1:22Speaker 2: is the next best thing, and I'm really really excited
- 1:24Speaker 2: to welcome them to the almost Famous podcast. Hi, guys,
- 1:30Speaker 2: welcome to the Almost Famous OG podcast. And I say, guys,
- 1:34Speaker 2: hello staph.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yeah, break body, you better hold yourself at the position
- 1:42Speaker 3: of attention.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I'm trying. I'm trying. How are you.
- 1:49Speaker 2: It's so good to see you face to face and
- 1:51Speaker 2: not yelling at me and yeah, I'm sure you could
- 2:00Speaker 2: an instant.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Oh, I don't need to give you a reason.
- 2:02Speaker 4: We do well.
- 2:03Speaker 5: We're doing well, and you know you're doing well.
- 2:05Speaker 4: You look great.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I yeah, I mean that was the hardest thing I
- 2:10Speaker 2: ever did in my whole life, and you saw me
- 2:12Speaker 2: in the middle of it, so you know, I life
- 2:16Speaker 2: is good.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Life is good.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I'm home, I'm good, and I'm so excited to talk
- 2:20Speaker 2: to you because I felt, like, you know, at the reunion,
- 2:25Speaker 2: a lot of us were talking about how we hoped
- 2:27Speaker 2: that you guys would surprise us because because we wanted
- 2:30Speaker 2: to see you in person and actually give you a
- 2:32Speaker 2: hug and thank you and get to know you more
- 2:37Speaker 2: on a like one to one level. So I'm so
- 2:39Speaker 2: excited that I get the chance to do that. I'd
- 2:42Speaker 2: love to start out hearing from both of you on
- 2:46Speaker 2: how you got started in the military, like what what
- 2:50Speaker 2: what into your decision to join and make this your
- 2:54Speaker 2: career and your life, and what was your family his
- 3:00Speaker 2: take on it as well, because my son is contemplating
- 3:04Speaker 2: going into the military. He actually is considering Navy Seals
- 3:07Speaker 2: and so it's kind of part of my life. So
- 3:11Speaker 2: I'd love to know your backgrounds in getting into it right.
- 3:14Speaker 5: Well, last start, so I was born in UK into
- 3:18Speaker 5: a family of five, not really a military family, although
- 3:21Speaker 5: my grandfather was in the RAF and he was actually
- 3:25Speaker 5: a guinea pig on Christmas Island when they dropped the
- 3:27Speaker 5: H bomb.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Whoa Yeah.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Anyway, so that he was in the RAF, My uncle
- 3:34Speaker 5: was in the RAF, and another uncle, my dad's brother,
- 3:37Speaker 5: was in Borneo in the war and was taken well,
- 3:42Speaker 5: not taking prisoner, but ambushed and most of his patrol
- 3:44Speaker 5: were killed and he went missing for something.
- 3:49Speaker 4: A jungle fight.
- 3:50Speaker 5: Yeah, And so my sort of family link with the
- 3:55Speaker 5: military wasn't great if I'm honest, and my dad wasn't
- 3:57Speaker 5: really didn't really want anyway his siblings to go into
- 4:01Speaker 5: any of his children to go.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Into the military.
- 4:04Speaker 5: However, for me it was a lifesaver because as I
- 4:08Speaker 5: was growing up, I was a bad child. The age
- 4:10Speaker 5: of eleven, I was in a gang, was in juvenile
- 4:15Speaker 5: court for fighting, and I was gone wrong.
- 4:19Speaker 4: I had to.
- 4:19Speaker 5: I've got an older brother, older sister, younger. I'm a
- 4:21Speaker 5: middle child, and middle child was slightly different, and that's
- 4:24Speaker 5: a fact, and I was different. It was a loving family,
- 4:27Speaker 5: a very poor family, but I gravitated the wrong sign
- 4:30Speaker 5: and went towards gangs. Now I always say, you know
- 4:33Speaker 5: I was led by somebody else.
- 4:35Speaker 4: I knew what I was doing. I was a bad child.
- 4:38Speaker 5: Eleven years old. Thirteen, I got thrown out of school.
- 4:41Speaker 5: The glue in the mass, Yeah, yeah, because I thought
- 4:44Speaker 5: it's funny and it wasn't.
- 4:45Speaker 1: What did you do?
- 4:47Speaker 4: I glued the mathematics teacher to the chair.
- 4:51Speaker 5: Yes it was funny at the time, but it wasn't.
- 4:55Speaker 5: Oh yeah, he didn't take too lightly to that. I
- 5:00Speaker 5: got now spelled from school, So I had no education
- 5:03Speaker 5: after really thirteen, and I started working out illegally at
- 5:07Speaker 5: the age of fifteen, and then at fifteen my whole
- 5:10Speaker 5: life turned upside down. The gang warfare, fighting got crazy
- 5:13Speaker 5: and I got stabbed and nearly died. I got stabbed
- 5:15Speaker 5: in the back. And anyway, when I came round in
- 5:19Speaker 5: hospital and realized the pain I was causing to my
- 5:22Speaker 5: family because they were all at my bedside thinking I
- 5:24Speaker 5: was going to die, and I thought, got to change
- 5:26Speaker 5: my life. I've got to do something and get away
- 5:29Speaker 5: from this lifestyle. And I hold my hands up, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 5: I you know, like you mother will say, he got in.
- 5:34Speaker 4: With the wrong people. I was the wrong people. We
- 5:37Speaker 4: all knew. I knew what I was doing.
- 5:40Speaker 5: Anyway, I joined the cadets, the military cadets, at the
- 5:42Speaker 5: age of eleven as well. So all through this time
- 5:44Speaker 5: I was boxing, I was getting trouble, I was in
- 5:46Speaker 5: trouble with the plane, nearly died, and I thought, right,
- 5:48Speaker 5: I need to get to the military. And at the
- 5:50Speaker 5: age of seventeen, I joined the parachute regiment. Seventy seven
- 5:54Speaker 5: zero of us turned up on day one, and I
- 5:56Speaker 5: was the youngest, the skinniest, and the cheekiest. And by
- 6:01Speaker 5: the end of the training there was only seven of
- 6:03Speaker 5: us left and I was one of seven. And then
- 6:05Speaker 5: in that you know when people say what did you learn,
- 6:08Speaker 5: I'll learn respect, I learned discipline. I remember on day
- 6:10Speaker 5: one looking at the instructor in front of me and thinking, wow,
- 6:14Speaker 5: I had so much respect for him already he hadn't
- 6:16Speaker 5: even opened his mouth, just the look of him and
- 6:18Speaker 5: knowing what he'd done. And I said to myself, this
- 6:22Speaker 5: is going to be hard, but there's no way I'm
- 6:24Speaker 5: going out that gate unless they've throwed me out or
- 6:26Speaker 5: I die. I want to be like that man there.
- 6:28Speaker 5: And that was at the start of my journey. So
- 6:30Speaker 5: I did nine years in the Airborne Infantry, the parachute Regiment.
- 6:34Speaker 5: I started to climb the ranks. I've been in conflict,
- 6:37Speaker 5: I've been tested, and I loved the job. I loved
- 6:39Speaker 5: what I was doing, you know, And I thought, where
- 6:42Speaker 5: don't go next? And then after nine years, I went
- 6:44Speaker 5: on what they call Special Forces selection sas selection Special
- 6:47Speaker 5: Air Service. Two hundred and eighty three of us started
- 6:51Speaker 5: on day one and that looking number against seven of
- 6:54Speaker 5: us finished and I went to my squadron, be squadron
- 6:58Speaker 5: and did amazing things all over the world. War fighting
- 7:03Speaker 5: and military is not all about fighting wars, you know,
- 7:07Speaker 5: you know, believe it or not, very small percentage of
- 7:09Speaker 5: the military do fight wars. But I was in that
- 7:12Speaker 5: small percent. So from ninety two all the way up
- 7:16Speaker 5: to you know twenty ten. Really I was warfighting in
- 7:20Speaker 5: places all over Europe, Africa, Middle East. I know I
- 7:24Speaker 5: say war fights. I was stopping conflict because that's what
- 7:27Speaker 5: our job was, to stop being suffering.
- 7:29Speaker 4: And I loved what I was doing.
- 7:30Speaker 5: I loved the fact that I was sacrificing myself for
- 7:33Speaker 5: the benefit of others to give them a life and
- 7:35Speaker 5: give our people back home a life without the trauma
- 7:39Speaker 5: that we could and problems we could have had.
- 7:40Speaker 4: So I love the job. I love what I did.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Got decorated by the Queen, did amazing things. You know.
- 7:46Speaker 5: It was a crazy I described as a crazy train
- 7:48Speaker 5: that goes across the globe doing amazing things in war
- 7:51Speaker 5: and conflict and natural disasters. You get off, you do
- 7:54Speaker 5: amazing things, you get back on it, you never talk
- 7:56Speaker 5: about it, and then go again and hopefully you step
- 7:59Speaker 5: off the crazy train at the end and walk out
- 8:01Speaker 5: the games and go, oh, that was a life, that
- 8:03Speaker 5: was a career or Unfortunately a lot of my friends
- 8:05Speaker 5: didn't get the opportunity to do that. They yeah, would sacrifice.
- 8:09Speaker 5: But that was the world I was in and I
- 8:11Speaker 5: loved it. And then I left that and then went
- 8:13Speaker 5: in after the military and then went into bodyguard in
- 8:16Speaker 5: this crazy world.
- 8:17Speaker 4: I am right now.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I love that your story. I mean, that makes me
- 8:21Speaker 2: respect you on a whole other level. I've told you,
- 8:23Speaker 2: I told you, you know, during the experience learning just
- 8:27Speaker 2: the teeny tiny, the teeny tiny taste that I got
- 8:30Speaker 2: of what you both have given to your countries, your world,
- 8:37Speaker 2: my respect is was just elevated.
- 8:41Speaker 1: And just hearing your story.
- 8:43Speaker 2: And I know, like my mom wrote me, I had
- 8:44Speaker 2: q on the show and he shared a bit of
- 8:48Speaker 2: his story, and my mom texted me yesterday, I think,
- 8:51Speaker 2: and she's like, I finally got to listen to qes
- 8:53Speaker 2: interview and I loved hearing his story.
- 8:56Speaker 1: So thank you for sharing that. Rudy, what about you?
- 9:01Speaker 3: You know, some of the great things that Billy described,
- 9:04Speaker 3: I think they're kind of eternal to all the men
- 9:09Speaker 3: and women that serve. We believe in something bigger than ourselves,
- 9:13Speaker 3: something about a culture that has ethics, our core values.
- 9:19Speaker 3: In the Marine Corps, they are on our courage commitment
- 9:24Speaker 3: when you're a young man. I think we are designed
- 9:28Speaker 3: and pulled to believe in something bigger. It's the kind
- 9:31Speaker 3: of thing that happens because the right of passage, we
- 9:35Speaker 3: chose to find a right of passage and submit to
- 9:40Speaker 3: something bigger than ourselves so we could be something more
- 9:43Speaker 3: than ourselves. I have to tell you, I love my
- 9:46Speaker 3: country so much, and I love the Marine Corps so much,
- 9:50Speaker 3: and I love my veteran community because without it, I
- 9:53Speaker 3: would not be here. They gave me the greatest training,
- 9:57Speaker 3: They gave me the greatest confidence. They instilled a level
- 10:02Speaker 3: of discipline and toughness that you can get nowhere else.
- 10:06Speaker 3: And you know, the Marine Corps is renowned for doing
- 10:09Speaker 3: two things, winning battles and making marines. That's all we do,
- 10:15Speaker 3: winning battles, making marines. So of the US military forces,
- 10:20Speaker 3: we are the aggressive shock troop. We're much smaller than
- 10:24Speaker 3: all the rest of the forces, and we're used to
- 10:27Speaker 3: doing things on our own expeditionary. They did not send
- 10:32Speaker 3: the US Army to go fight the Japanese. They didn't
- 10:35Speaker 3: send the Air Force or the Navy. It was the
- 10:38Speaker 3: US Marines that had to fight the Japanese because the
- 10:41Speaker 3: Japanese with bushido, would fight to the death from that
- 10:47Speaker 3: esteemed culture. Also, what makes our branch of service so
- 10:51Speaker 3: special too, is it is our history. It's not our equipment.
- 10:56Speaker 3: For the most part. I was an infantryman before I
- 10:58Speaker 3: tried out for reconing it through selection and became you know,
- 11:02Speaker 3: high speed low drag as they call us high speed
- 11:05Speaker 3: low Drag. It's not the equipment. We get most of
- 11:10Speaker 3: our stuff from hand me downs. Actually it's a lot
- 11:12Speaker 3: like when Billy describes in British military and specifically even
- 11:17Speaker 3: the sas they got a beg, borrow and steal to
- 11:20Speaker 3: make things happen. That's the Marine Corps. We don't complain,
- 11:24Speaker 3: we make do so that kind of can do attitude.
- 11:30Speaker 3: We create something called gung Ho, which means in the
- 11:33Speaker 3: spirit that actually comes. Everything in the Marine Corps is
- 11:37Speaker 3: about history. That history is what makes us special. It's
- 11:40Speaker 3: not the equipment. We do have a gorgeous dress uniform,
- 11:44Speaker 3: but it's the history. And gung Ho was from the
- 11:47Speaker 3: Box Rebellion when the Marines were fighting the Chinese turn
- 11:50Speaker 3: of the Sentry, and it means in the spirit everything
- 11:54Speaker 3: that ties us to a connection of bravery and history.
- 12:01Speaker 3: My personal hero is John Bassalone. He's an Italian American.
- 12:06Speaker 3: He was a soldier first in the army and he
- 12:11Speaker 3: started a truck driving business in the Philippines as a soldier.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Well World War Two started off, and so he wanted
- 12:20Speaker 3: to get his truck driving business again. But the only
- 12:23Speaker 3: place that would take him to Philippines was the Marine Corps.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Joins the Marine Corps. He fights the Japanese. He has
- 12:29Speaker 3: the Congressional Medal of Honor. He's being overrun and with
- 12:33Speaker 3: a water cool thirty cal machine gun in the cover
- 12:37Speaker 3: of darkness because there's mud and blood and charging Japanese bonds.
- 12:42Speaker 3: I charge after charge. He has to pick up the
- 12:46Speaker 3: gun with his arm and it melts through his flesh
- 12:50Speaker 3: down to his book. And he's got a rock and
- 12:53Speaker 3: roll and kill wave after wave of enemy. And when
- 12:57Speaker 3: the smoke clears in the morning, he runs out and
- 13:02Speaker 3: is pulling the bodies out of the way so he
- 13:04Speaker 3: has a clear sector of fire because this was going
- 13:07Speaker 3: to go on for days and weeks. So it's so badass.
- 13:11Speaker 3: I'll tell you what. I'm so proud to be a
- 13:14Speaker 3: recon marine. You know, all of us in the Special
- 13:16Speaker 3: Forces world, we're close air support cats. You know, I
- 13:21Speaker 3: controlled the jets and the rotary wing and the helicopters.
- 13:24Speaker 3: We're paratroopers, we're combat divers, we're explosives experts, we're scout snipers.
- 13:29Speaker 3: We've got all these things that we do that we
- 13:32Speaker 3: bring to bear, to manicure the battlefield and the kick ass.
- 13:36Speaker 3: But boy to me, having the bravery to fight side
- 13:40Speaker 3: by side with your brothers, seeing all comers and taking
- 13:43Speaker 3: them down and never giving up and keeping in the spirit.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I'll never have an ego about some of you know,
- 13:51Speaker 3: all the metals on my chest and fighting in Afghanistan, Pakistan,
- 13:54Speaker 3: I rack Northeast Africa. I always look up to the
- 13:57Speaker 3: generation that came before. So you know, even in our program,
- 14:02Speaker 3: even here for sas and special Forces, reason why we
- 14:06Speaker 3: push ourselves so hard and give you everything we got
- 14:09Speaker 3: and why we're so hard on you, It's because we
- 14:11Speaker 3: love you and we love the process and we know
- 14:15Speaker 3: it makes good strong men and women. That's what the
- 14:18Speaker 3: military means to me.
- 14:20Speaker 2: I mean, what a story. Okay, So when they approached
- 14:35Speaker 2: you to do the show, did either of you why
- 14:38Speaker 2: are you laughing?
- 14:41Speaker 3: You know, we just love this stuff so much.
- 14:43Speaker 1: To be honest, I'm like, are you laughing at me?
- 14:47Speaker 3: Oh no, We're just laughing really at the joy that
- 14:50Speaker 3: we just love so much and every time we show up.
- 14:53Speaker 3: I mean, Phillie, I think this is our eleventh season
- 14:56Speaker 3: coming up, Me and you together and everyone. There's a
- 15:01Speaker 3: time when the aches and the pains and the arthritis
- 15:04Speaker 3: and mate, I think this is my last one.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Mate.
- 15:10Speaker 3: You know what, afterwards we get wait to do it again.
- 15:13Speaker 3: We're like, yeah, we're gonna go again.
- 15:16Speaker 4: But it's.
- 15:18Speaker 1: How did you guys meet.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Actually on the show.
- 15:21Speaker 5: So this show, believe it or not, we started in
- 15:24Speaker 5: the UK around about two fifteen sixteen. It started off
- 15:30Speaker 5: with non celebrities, just men. Then after about a couple
- 15:34Speaker 5: of seasons there's non celebrities men and women. Then it
- 15:37Speaker 5: went from non celebrities men and women to celebrities and
- 15:41Speaker 5: then we did back to it.
- 15:41Speaker 4: So we want to.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Encourage you to see it too.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I did, I did. I watched it before.
- 15:48Speaker 3: They're not playing around. They're not playing around.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Around on yours either, So that's where it started.
- 15:53Speaker 4: So that started.
- 15:54Speaker 5: And the guy that was acting chief instructor if you like,
- 15:59Speaker 5: he left, was asked to leave, and then they needed
- 16:02Speaker 5: a replacement and Rudy looks a bit like him as well. Anyway,
- 16:05Speaker 5: they scouted out Rudy and okay, you know him, and
- 16:09Speaker 5: it made sense because a lot of the questions, well,
- 16:11Speaker 5: what's that got to do with British Special Forces. Well,
- 16:13Speaker 5: British Special Force American Special Forces have been side by
- 16:17Speaker 5: side for the last thirty years. Find the warrant, so
- 16:20Speaker 5: it made sense. So that's where we met he. Rudy
- 16:23Speaker 5: came in, replaced the guy that was moved on, and
- 16:28Speaker 5: it was we're just it's a military thing. As you'll
- 16:30Speaker 5: find that camarader you've built with you guys on that show.
- 16:33Speaker 5: You love that forever. You'll literally be able to pick
- 16:36Speaker 5: up the phone in five years time speak to one
- 16:38Speaker 5: of the girls of Guys and go and pick up
- 16:40Speaker 5: exactly like you were back in the accommodation.
- 16:42Speaker 4: We met him.
- 16:43Speaker 5: I've never met him before in my life. We fought
- 16:44Speaker 5: on the same battlegrounds all while in the world. That
- 16:47Speaker 5: never even knew that obviously, and then it was just
- 16:50Speaker 5: like the Camaradi, the dark Banter, the last and it
- 16:53Speaker 5: just kicked in straight away, and that's how we've met,
- 16:55Speaker 5: That's how we've bonded, and it's gone forward since then.
- 16:58Speaker 5: And then it was just the UK version initially. Then
- 17:03Speaker 5: I'll just come to America, break into the American market.
- 17:05Speaker 4: If you like, and we make all you guys.
- 17:07Speaker 5: And so now We've got two Americans, two Brits and
- 17:09Speaker 5: it works great. If you can see behind the scenes
- 17:12Speaker 5: what it's really like, you would love it.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Yes, I would die. I want that so bad.
- 17:20Speaker 5: It's so deep and dark, and we absolutely bust each other. Oh,
- 17:25Speaker 5: every second of every you know, you wouldn't believe it.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Oh I believe it. I can only imagine, you know.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Yeah, it makes us laugh and keeps us going too,
- 17:35Speaker 3: because as hard as we're working, you all, believe it
- 17:38Speaker 3: or not, we're working twice as hard. We're at that
- 17:42Speaker 3: working you and taking care of you because we're your
- 17:45Speaker 3: range safety officers too. You know, we're life savers as well,
- 17:48Speaker 3: and we're planning course and we're observing so that we're
- 17:51Speaker 3: taking notes so that we can really do the profession right.
- 17:55Speaker 3: Whenever you all get a chance to lay down in
- 17:58Speaker 3: the rack, we're right at work. We're freaking running data,
- 18:02Speaker 3: we're getting freaking information, and then we're going to prayer
- 18:06Speaker 3: rooms and we are in it and it's.
- 18:10Speaker 5: All about giving you the best journey that we can
- 18:13Speaker 5: totally every you know, it's based on all our experiences
- 18:16Speaker 5: and time that was serving, all the lessons learned and
- 18:18Speaker 5: failed and got right and wrong. It's about giving that
- 18:21Speaker 5: to you in that short period of time. That's why
- 18:23Speaker 5: it feels to you you haven't got time to scratch
- 18:26Speaker 5: your ass. You like, one minute, you don't know what's
- 18:28Speaker 5: going on. We haven't got time to explain it. But
- 18:30Speaker 5: there's a reason behind everything that we do physically, mentally
- 18:32Speaker 5: and emotionally. We're trying to get the best out of you, guys.
- 18:35Speaker 5: It doesn't feel like it. It feels like we're trying
- 18:37Speaker 5: to kill you. Yeah, that's a bill at times, you
- 18:39Speaker 5: know them in a scenario, which is how it has
- 18:43Speaker 5: to be. Yes, But we're giving you, you know, over
- 18:45Speaker 5: one hundred years of experience combined in ten days.
- 18:50Speaker 4: We haven't got time.
- 18:50Speaker 5: So everything you do, even that, the silent periods of
- 18:53Speaker 5: sitting around wondering what's going on, there's a reason behind
- 18:55Speaker 5: that totally to allow you to think and taking information
- 18:59Speaker 5: and deal with process things. And then we again if
- 19:02Speaker 5: you go again, so you know, all lot speeds will
- 19:06Speaker 5: put together all the time to give you the best
- 19:08Speaker 5: experience that we come.
- 19:09Speaker 3: It's right on trist The truth is at the baseline,
- 19:14Speaker 3: we care about each and every one of you. It
- 19:16Speaker 3: really is a point of pride and honor to give
- 19:21Speaker 3: everything we possibly can to you for your self development.
- 19:25Speaker 3: And it's just our process is a rough, rugged and
- 19:29Speaker 3: hard process, but we care and that's why we give
- 19:32Speaker 3: you everything we got. Billy says it. Every time you
- 19:36Speaker 3: will leave that course whenever that is a better version
- 19:41Speaker 3: of yourself, and you will look back for the rest
- 19:44Speaker 3: of your life about lessons that you learned on that course.
- 19:48Speaker 3: And that's incredible. I'm very thankful that I can be
- 19:50Speaker 3: a part of that. I really really love the work.
- 19:53Speaker 2: I mean, you should, you should be proud of it.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It's amazing. It's such an amazing show. I am so thankful,
- 19:59Speaker 2: you know, even though I was only there for two days,
- 20:03Speaker 2: I really feel just grateful to have been part of it.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Because when they first asked me, I was like, uh,
- 20:12Speaker 2: hell no.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Like why would I do that? I'm fifty one years
- 20:15Speaker 1: old and why would I do that?
- 20:19Speaker 3: So I look like a wet rat. You look like
- 20:21Speaker 3: a wet rat coming off of that that beach. Her
- 20:25Speaker 3: hair was.
- 20:27Speaker 2: It was like like stringy and in my face, and
- 20:31Speaker 2: it was the hardest thing that I have ever done.
- 20:34Speaker 3: We thought you were done right there on that beach.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Remember we were in your ass. We were in your face.
- 20:39Speaker 3: You don't want to be here. Come on, gill yourself up, babe,
- 20:43Speaker 3: but give me, give me the arm bend. I kept going,
- 20:48Speaker 3: that's grown.
- 20:49Speaker 2: No, even though I was gonna, I was gonna faint.
- 20:51Speaker 2: And I walked up to you, Rudy, and I said,
- 20:54Speaker 2: I think I'm gonna faint. I My body is, you know,
- 20:58Speaker 2: at its limit. I think I'm gonna fainted. To see
- 21:00Speaker 2: the medic and You're like, okay, are you ready to
- 21:02Speaker 2: go home? And I said, well, no, I'm not ready
- 21:04Speaker 2: to go home, but I feel like I'm going to faint.
- 21:06Speaker 2: And You're like, well, you have to give me your
- 21:07Speaker 2: arm ban and I was like, nope, I'm keeping going
- 21:10Speaker 2: and I'm a victory.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I kept going, but it was not easy.
- 21:17Speaker 2: And you know, we can get into this later, but
- 21:22Speaker 2: I want to get back to the behind the scenes.
- 21:24Speaker 2: So when you guys are in your accommodations, do you
- 21:28Speaker 2: have access or the producers giving you like kind of
- 21:33Speaker 2: snippets of our conversations that we're having.
- 21:36Speaker 1: No, you don't see anything.
- 21:38Speaker 5: Oh, we're not allowed to because it then becomes kind
- 21:40Speaker 5: of biased. We only see what we see in front
- 21:44Speaker 5: of us. So when you're in front of us and
- 21:46Speaker 5: your reactions and I perform and that's all we see you.
- 21:48Speaker 5: When you go back into your accommodations or you're not
- 21:51Speaker 5: in view of us, we don't. We don't listen to you.
- 21:53Speaker 4: We don't.
- 21:54Speaker 5: We're not allowed to. We're not allowed to know what's
- 21:56Speaker 5: going on. We don't know your stories, your backstories. So
- 21:59Speaker 5: when we do the mirror room, that literally is the
- 22:01Speaker 5: first time we get to know who you really are
- 22:04Speaker 5: and what you're growing up was, like, what your problems are,
- 22:06Speaker 5: you know, all your issues, all that sort of stuff.
- 22:09Speaker 5: We're not allowed to know anything. If we've done a
- 22:11Speaker 5: mirror room with you and you've not really opened up
- 22:14Speaker 5: or told us anything. When we've tried to answer, you've
- 22:16Speaker 5: skirted around questions, we may call you in for a
- 22:19Speaker 5: second mirror room, and then we do.
- 22:21Speaker 4: They do get.
- 22:22Speaker 5: Opportunity to do what they call open source, so they'll say, okay,
- 22:25Speaker 5: you can have the computer for like five minutes to
- 22:27Speaker 5: google their name, see what comes up.
- 22:29Speaker 4: So then the second interview, if we'd feel we haven't.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Got anything out of you, you haven't really opened up
- 22:35Speaker 5: to us, and we'll we'll do that, you know, and
- 22:38Speaker 5: obviously a can google anyone's name today and there's information
- 22:41Speaker 5: whatever it is, you know, relationships, financial problems, whatever, good things,
- 22:45Speaker 5: bad things. So then we become pretty bombed for the
- 22:48Speaker 5: second interview with you, so we won't even mention it
- 22:51Speaker 5: until we fill the times right. We'll give you an
- 22:53Speaker 5: opportunity to tell us about so what is your relationship
- 22:57Speaker 5: with like with your family, and you don't want to,
- 23:00Speaker 5: and then we'll go actually, you know from source it
- 23:02Speaker 5: says that you've had it, and then it breaks down
- 23:04Speaker 5: that barrier one more time and then it's that mirror
- 23:07Speaker 5: room is amazing how it gets people to open up
- 23:10Speaker 5: and get rid of everything that's a noise to you
- 23:13Speaker 5: and becoming a problem because we've all got it. Everybody's
- 23:15Speaker 5: got different lifestyles, we've all got the same issues, financial relationships,
- 23:19Speaker 5: whatever it is, and that mirror room is great for
- 23:23Speaker 5: cutting that way.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Let it drop and then go feel free and step
- 23:27Speaker 4: out of the room.
- 23:27Speaker 5: And then we see a different version of that person
- 23:30Speaker 5: that came in the room after that, because else they
- 23:33Speaker 5: can now really you know, they've dropped all the vulnerabilities.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Here we go.
- 23:38Speaker 5: Now we build up and that was it. That's the
- 23:40Speaker 5: process we're trying to get not to be noisy or
- 23:46Speaker 5: intrusive into your life. It's hey, it doesn't matter. No
- 23:50Speaker 5: one really cares. The only the only people that person
- 23:54Speaker 5: making this a problem is you. And what we need
- 23:56Speaker 5: to stand that and drop that no one, no one
- 23:58Speaker 5: cares about.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Let's see who the real.
- 24:01Speaker 5: You is we've got. We're now going to rebuild your character.
- 24:05Speaker 5: We don't break it down.
- 24:05Speaker 4: We'll peel you back and then.
- 24:09Speaker 5: Let's say vulnerability because we only there's only one way
- 24:12Speaker 5: to go, and that's up and everybody does. Now gone
- 24:15Speaker 5: back to yourself, and you probably think I only lasted
- 24:17Speaker 5: two days. Two days is a great journey every It's
- 24:21Speaker 5: an individual journey for everybody. You've got yourself, You've got
- 24:26Speaker 5: young super athletes and you know, how can that be fair? Well,
- 24:28Speaker 5: it's not fair. It is fair because we expect the
- 24:31Speaker 5: super fit athletes to do things quicker than you would do.
- 24:35Speaker 5: You do exactly the same as everybody else, and your
- 24:37Speaker 5: journey may not be as long as theirs, but your
- 24:38Speaker 5: journey is just as good. For your two days, that is,
- 24:42Speaker 5: you completed the course. That's all you needed to do.
- 24:45Speaker 5: You found out a lot about yourself. You did things
- 24:47Speaker 5: that you never thought you could do, you know, in
- 24:50Speaker 5: that short period of time. And that's what it's all about.
- 24:52Speaker 5: You went physically beyond something you've probably never done for
- 24:55Speaker 5: the last ten years. Mentally inside your head. You wanted
- 25:01Speaker 5: to give them all we've all got. That's natural, and
- 25:03Speaker 5: we wouldn't let you give up because we knew you
- 25:05Speaker 5: wasn't ready. You thought you were, but you weren't. Like
- 25:08Speaker 5: you said you felt faint. You didn't faint, did you,
- 25:11Speaker 5: but you and you got up and went again. You know,
- 25:14Speaker 5: the image things. We're not interested in image. We're not
- 25:16Speaker 5: interested as the fastest, the fittest. Now, we're interested in you,
- 25:20Speaker 5: who really are you? And yes, you do find that out,
- 25:23Speaker 5: whether it's in one day or ten days, that's right.
- 25:26Speaker 5: And it's like that's why I always say it's it's
- 25:29Speaker 5: a great journey for everybody you do. No matter where
- 25:32Speaker 5: you leave, you walk off away from it a better
- 25:35Speaker 5: version of yourself and always wishing you.
- 25:38Speaker 4: Could do it again or do a bit more.
- 25:41Speaker 5: And that's that's life. And that's very much the military
- 25:44Speaker 5: way of life. That's exactly one.
- 25:45Speaker 4: And the other thing you'll take from this, I think I've.
- 25:47Speaker 5: Already said, is the cameraade you've built now is exactly
- 25:50Speaker 5: the same as the military. You know that we're in
- 25:53Speaker 5: this together, and it's it's a great thing.
- 25:55Speaker 3: It is a Tricia. What's so rad for us professionally
- 26:00Speaker 3: as directing staff and as military professionals. You know, we've
- 26:04Speaker 3: worked with people all around the world. We have been
- 26:09Speaker 3: in peacekeeping missions or conflict. We've been solving problems for
- 26:16Speaker 3: getting a basic resources to villages, or doing medical or
- 26:23Speaker 3: snatch and grab missions and direct action. We've been up
- 26:26Speaker 3: and down in every way possible in the human condition,
- 26:30Speaker 3: with all kinds of languages, all kinds of cultures. We
- 26:33Speaker 3: really get to know people. We're masters at people. They
- 26:37Speaker 3: give us no dossier. They trust that we have the
- 26:40Speaker 3: ability with our observation and our passion to when we
- 26:45Speaker 3: receive you all. And you know, Billy, he's from the UK.
- 26:49Speaker 3: He don't know any of you Americans, you Yanks, you know,
- 26:53Speaker 3: you don't know a day. Yeah, I know some of you.
- 26:57Speaker 3: I know some of you right But the whole point
- 27:00Speaker 3: is that we don't care about your name, or your brand,
- 27:03Speaker 3: or your background or your history. We're going to find
- 27:07Speaker 3: out who you are right here, right now. Why, because
- 27:11Speaker 3: that's what you're here for. We're here for you so
- 27:14Speaker 3: that you can be yourself. And how do you become yourself?
- 27:18Speaker 3: We blow torch you're freaking past off of you. We
- 27:22Speaker 3: put you in in We make you exhausted and tired, wet,
- 27:27Speaker 3: sandy and cold. We make you failure. Pretty soon all
- 27:32Speaker 3: of the masks fall away and we get to know you.
- 27:35Speaker 3: It is awesome for you. It's awesome for us because
- 27:39Speaker 3: we really, at the bottom line, want to see your growth.
- 27:42Speaker 3: And I love this program for that. It makes our
- 27:46Speaker 3: military look formitable, which it is because what we can
- 27:51Speaker 3: do we're all in our fifties and sixties now, it
- 27:54Speaker 3: makes us professional and ultimately you look at the US
- 27:58Speaker 3: and the UK military, you can see that we love
- 28:01Speaker 3: our people and our countrymen. So I just I just
- 28:04Speaker 3: adore this program. This is my right hand man. I
- 28:07Speaker 3: bounce off of this guy. He bounces off of me Fox.
- 28:11Speaker 3: He's always prickly, but you know, always big and strong,
- 28:14Speaker 3: and Q is just happy to be there.
- 28:16Speaker 6: It's a really really awesome trist and everybody gets so
- 28:21Speaker 6: much more out of it than they recognize, and it
- 28:24Speaker 6: takes days and weeks months later they will reach out
- 28:27Speaker 6: to us.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, this really impacted me. So that's what
- 28:32Speaker 3: I love it.
- 28:43Speaker 2: You know, after being first asked and saying hell no,
- 28:46Speaker 2: I really was like, you know what, I need to
- 28:48Speaker 2: think about this for a minute and watch the show
- 28:51Speaker 2: and watch the UK versions. And one of my I mean,
- 28:56Speaker 2: my goal honestly was to get to the end. I
- 28:59Speaker 2: really truly wanted to get to the end. But one
- 29:03Speaker 2: of the other ones was like, if I feel like,
- 29:05Speaker 2: like if I get hurt or whatever, I want to
- 29:07Speaker 2: get to the mirror room because I know that that's
- 29:09Speaker 2: where like the the good stuff happens. You know, that's
- 29:12Speaker 2: where the growth happens. I at least that was my
- 29:15Speaker 2: my perspective in watching the show was that where was
- 29:18Speaker 2: where the growth happens. And I was so thankful that
- 29:23Speaker 2: day to get that conversation, that one on one, one,
- 29:27Speaker 2: one on one time with you guys, and you know,
- 29:29Speaker 2: in hearing like it's just gonna get harder, It's just
- 29:31Speaker 2: gonna get harder.
- 29:32Speaker 1: It's just gonna get harder.
- 29:33Speaker 5: And then.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Waking up the next morning and having you know, basically
- 29:39Speaker 2: bombs exploding all around me, I was like, Okay, I.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Don't know that my heart, you know, I actually had.
- 29:45Speaker 2: This like peace come over me and I thought, you
- 29:50Speaker 2: know what, I have gotten so much out of just
- 29:52Speaker 2: my short two days that I'm okay. I don't want
- 29:55Speaker 2: to be a burden anymore. I just didn't want to
- 29:58Speaker 2: be a burden. I didn't want Golden to have to
- 30:00Speaker 2: carry my pack anymore. I didn't want Cam to have
- 30:03Speaker 2: to run after me and get my pack so he
- 30:05Speaker 2: could help me into the vehicle. I didn't want Christy
- 30:07Speaker 2: have to you know, blow hot, like she was literally
- 30:10Speaker 2: blowing her breath on me to heat me up when
- 30:13Speaker 2: I was hypothermic, and I.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Was like, you know what, it's okay.
- 30:18Speaker 2: So in those moments when we come to you and
- 30:21Speaker 2: we're ready to give up, or you're seeing someone struggle,
- 30:27Speaker 2: I you guys are human, you have families at home.
- 30:31Speaker 2: You know you're carrying people. You're doing this to get
- 30:34Speaker 2: us to be better humans. But is there ever a
- 30:37Speaker 2: time where you're like, how do you handle your emotions
- 30:40Speaker 2: when someone you know, like when I came to you
- 30:43Speaker 2: on the beach and I'm like, I think I'm gonna faint.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I don't know if I can do it, And you're like, well,
- 30:47Speaker 2: you know you want to quit, and I'm like, no,
- 30:51Speaker 2: is there ever a time that or can you talk
- 30:53Speaker 2: to us about how you handle your emotions when when
- 30:56Speaker 2: people are really really struggling and you have to kind
- 31:01Speaker 2: of continue to be that yeah, tough love. You know,
- 31:06Speaker 2: you know what I'm trying to say, Like I I
- 31:08Speaker 2: assume you have emotions, you know when people are struggling.
- 31:12Speaker 5: First, we're not there to break or hurt anybody. We're
- 31:16Speaker 5: there to push you in order to get the best
- 31:19Speaker 5: out of somebody you've got. It's gonna be uncomfortable, it's
- 31:21Speaker 5: gonna hurt, it's easy. If it's gonna be easy, it's
- 31:24Speaker 5: not worth having anyway. So yeah, from our side, now
- 31:27Speaker 5: we have hale that emotion. I'm no fool, and we
- 31:30Speaker 5: watch it and we think, you know, we know when
- 31:32Speaker 5: your breaking point would be. We know if you at
- 31:35Speaker 5: that moment, we'd have already discussed. We're ready for that.
- 31:39Speaker 5: Conversations take place to go. Yep, you're right, you've done.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Okay, let's did you hand your arm band to me?
- 31:44Speaker 3: You did, didn't you? And if you can, I remember
- 31:47Speaker 3: because remember it was early morning. Yeah, we're and we're
- 31:50Speaker 3: getting our day started for training, and you called me
- 31:53Speaker 3: down there. I took a moment though, I really, really
- 31:56Speaker 3: looked in your eyes and asked, is just really what
- 32:00Speaker 3: you want to do? Because I didn't. We didn't want
- 32:02Speaker 3: you to go. We weren't ready to go at that point.
- 32:05Speaker 5: Yes, But back to the emotions thing. So, so it's
- 32:08Speaker 5: based over experience. We've had a lot of experience of
- 32:11Speaker 5: training people, working with people, dealing with situations that I
- 32:16Speaker 5: wouldn't want anybody to have to deal.
- 32:17Speaker 4: With ever again, you know, So we've got a lot
- 32:20Speaker 4: of experience.
- 32:20Speaker 5: So it's all based on the knowledge and experience that
- 32:23Speaker 5: we have got of how we handle ourselves, how we
- 32:27Speaker 5: sort of present ourselves to you to get to the
- 32:30Speaker 5: next level or not to the next level. You know,
- 32:32Speaker 5: sometimes we can be a little bit it feels a
- 32:34Speaker 5: little bit brutal. Sometimes it has to be that way now,
- 32:37Speaker 5: But like I say, as I've already said, it's a
- 32:39Speaker 5: personal journey for everybody. And we know when you're about
- 32:42Speaker 5: to almost stop. We know what you We know and
- 32:45Speaker 5: you don't is we know what's coming next, You've no idea.
- 32:48Speaker 5: So we've been looking at you and thinking Christian's given
- 32:51Speaker 5: all that she's got. She's physically drained, she's mentally trained,
- 32:54Speaker 5: she's got as much out of this as probably she's
- 32:56Speaker 5: gonna get there's no point in doing what's coming next,
- 32:59Speaker 5: which you don't know what, because all we're gonna do.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Is you're going to go backwards.
- 33:03Speaker 4: You're now going to.
- 33:04Speaker 5: Go yeah, and that's and I think we're great judges
- 33:08Speaker 5: of that, and that all comes down to emotion. And
- 33:10Speaker 5: now we talk to you how we deal with things,
- 33:13Speaker 5: and sometimes it does brutal, but sometimes it has to be.
- 33:16Speaker 5: And there are times where you know, we we're human beings.
- 33:21Speaker 5: We can see at that point and you need that
- 33:22Speaker 5: little bit more reassurance. Arm around the show and say hey, listen,
- 33:27Speaker 5: you can go a little bit more or you can't
- 33:28Speaker 5: go a little So we we're judges and that's all
- 33:31Speaker 5: based on all the experiences and touch word, I don't
- 33:36Speaker 5: think I've got it wrong yet, you know, I haven't
- 33:38Speaker 5: screamed at somebody for the wrong reasons or give that
- 33:40Speaker 5: bit of comfort when I've been played, which I never
- 33:43Speaker 5: will be, et cetera. So it's it's it's been able
- 33:47Speaker 5: based on knowledge and experience, true experience of knowing when
- 33:52Speaker 5: to be soft approach, a hard approach, a midway approach,
- 33:57Speaker 5: and yeah, so it but you know, you know there
- 33:59Speaker 5: are I don't think I don't know I've got it wrong.
- 34:02Speaker 5: I think we've got it right every time. You know,
- 34:04Speaker 5: I've never gone to a plank of thinking I should
- 34:06Speaker 5: have stopped it there. Yeah, even the million, even the million,
- 34:09Speaker 5: you know million, Yeah, no one's going to get hurt.
- 34:13Speaker 5: That's what happens. It does happen now without giving any spoilers.
- 34:18Speaker 5: You know, you've got people who have smashed it out
- 34:20Speaker 5: of the park and then go and trip over a
- 34:22Speaker 5: wire on the way back to the accommodation, and that
- 34:25Speaker 5: was their journey, do you know what I'm saying. So,
- 34:29Speaker 5: but in terms of looking at you and being us,
- 34:31Speaker 5: being emotional being, it's it's just based on experience and
- 34:36Speaker 5: we're watching it. You know.
- 34:39Speaker 4: What you don't see.
- 34:39Speaker 5: Is like I'll be keeping an eye on twisted or
- 34:42Speaker 5: keeping eyes on golden. You know, we're seeing people coming
- 34:45Speaker 5: to that point there where they're about to break and
- 34:47Speaker 5: we don't want to break in. But okay, so that
- 34:49Speaker 5: is when we'll eave a change direction for you, make
- 34:52Speaker 5: you do something different, or say something, pull you apart,
- 34:54Speaker 5: or stop the exercise or you know.
- 34:57Speaker 4: So it's all rambled.
- 34:59Speaker 5: A bit there, it's but it's it's generally, it's knowledge
- 35:01Speaker 5: and experience gained over thirty years of being in the
- 35:04Speaker 5: military for sure.
- 35:05Speaker 3: And Tristan, we're instructors too. We have been instructors for
- 35:12Speaker 3: men that are going through selection, jungle course, scout, sniper already,
- 35:17Speaker 3: men that are completely physically mentally switched on and committed,
- 35:21Speaker 3: and some of them don't even make it. So we
- 35:24Speaker 3: learn how to observe the human experience and we can
- 35:28Speaker 3: see what's coming. We're going to squeeze every little bit
- 35:31Speaker 3: out of you for your benefit and at the same time,
- 35:35Speaker 3: if you're vulnerable, because every night we have our prayers
- 35:39Speaker 3: where we assess every single one of you deeply, honestly,
- 35:44Speaker 3: and we will manicure how we approach each and each
- 35:48Speaker 3: and every recruit or what team evolutions we put together.
- 35:52Speaker 3: For a reason now it seems chaotic to you all
- 35:55Speaker 3: out there, there is a method to the madness. There
- 35:59Speaker 3: is a reason behind everything we do. Not to say
- 36:03Speaker 3: that we not to say that we are not flexible,
- 36:06Speaker 3: because sometimes storms come in, locations are washed out, vehicles breakdown.
- 36:13Speaker 3: We can pivot. That's what makes us so special. But
- 36:16Speaker 3: there's a method to the madness, and it must seem
- 36:20Speaker 3: chaotic on your end, But yeah, how we know what
- 36:23Speaker 3: we're doing.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we know you know what you're doing.
- 36:29Speaker 2: I feel like I wouldn't have felt as safe as
- 36:32Speaker 2: I did if I didn't feel that. You know, I
- 36:38Speaker 2: have a huge, massive fear of open water in normal life,
- 36:42Speaker 2: and watching the show with my husband, he was like,
- 36:45Speaker 2: you wouldn't have done that with me, Like, if it
- 36:47Speaker 2: was just us, I wouldn't have done it. And it's
- 36:50Speaker 2: not that I don't feel safe with my husband. I
- 36:52Speaker 2: just feel like all of the years of experience and
- 36:54Speaker 2: everything that you've done, I just was like, oh, sure,
- 36:58Speaker 2: I'll jump from a movie boat speed boat to a helicopter.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Sure, why not?
- 37:05Speaker 2: I mean, I'm gonna end up in probably open water,
- 37:07Speaker 2: but hey, why not?
- 37:08Speaker 1: Why don't we understand this? So so yeah, I.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Felt safe the whole time and I really didn't even
- 37:21Speaker 2: think about my fears, which is so crazy to me.
- 37:25Speaker 2: I just got back from Orlando. I do not ride
- 37:28Speaker 2: roller coasters in normal life, Okay, I just don't. I'm
- 37:31Speaker 2: not like a risk taker. I'm not that kind of person.
- 37:34Speaker 2: I was like, you know what, I freaking just did
- 37:37Speaker 2: Special Forces. I'm going to go on some roller coasters.
- 37:41Speaker 2: So I went on roller coasters and you got to
- 37:44Speaker 2: experience that with my daughter. Like so there's little wins,
- 37:47Speaker 2: you know, in my life because of it.
- 37:49Speaker 1: So thank you.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Sure that's a window into our world. You just really
- 37:53Speaker 3: what you just described there is the life of a
- 37:56Speaker 3: military man or woman when we're going through training so
- 38:00Speaker 3: many of these things. I've never even seen a helicopter really,
- 38:03Speaker 3: but first the first time I'm doing helo operations. I'd
- 38:07Speaker 3: never been on a feaking warship before. But when we
- 38:12Speaker 3: rock up, that means when we show up, we do
- 38:15Speaker 3: what we're told, and we execute. We don't even think
- 38:17Speaker 3: of the fear. We don't even think about anything except
- 38:21Speaker 3: checking equipment and doing exactly what you're told. And after
- 38:25Speaker 3: you do that for a couple of months or years,
- 38:28Speaker 3: you break down that whole element of fear. If you're
- 38:31Speaker 3: prepared and you trust in your equipment and you trust
- 38:35Speaker 3: in yourself, the fear is gone and you can execute.
- 38:39Speaker 3: That's that's really what it's about for us. It's not
- 38:43Speaker 3: like some kind of superpower. It's it's first, we believe
- 38:47Speaker 3: in our training, believe in our equipment. That's the case
- 38:51Speaker 3: we're executing, and and and you'll.
- 38:54Speaker 5: Do all these crazy things that you know, like you said,
- 38:56Speaker 5: you wouldn't do it with your husband or your family members.
- 38:59Speaker 4: That's life. It's like somebody else will be.
- 39:03Speaker 5: Able to control your children better than you, not bring
- 39:06Speaker 5: them up as parents, but you know what your children
- 39:08Speaker 5: are naughty children can wrap you around the things like
- 39:10Speaker 5: my kids said, they descry me, My grandkid terrorized, you know.
- 39:17Speaker 5: But somebody else can control your kids. You know, somebody
- 39:20Speaker 5: else will tell them and you see them doing all
- 39:22Speaker 5: sorts of things for somebody else, but they won't do
- 39:23Speaker 5: it for your parents. That's a bit like you and
- 39:25Speaker 5: your husband. You want you to do it like no
- 39:27Speaker 5: y because you can tell him no, but you can't
- 39:30Speaker 5: tell us no.
- 39:31Speaker 3: That's right, that's the difference.
- 39:32Speaker 4: So you are going to do it.
- 39:34Speaker 1: That's so true.
- 39:35Speaker 5: That's how you do grow. It's a classic cliche. Be
- 39:40Speaker 5: get comfortable with being uncomfortable because it is worth doing.
- 39:44Speaker 5: Really is not going to be easy. It's gonna it's
- 39:47Speaker 5: gonna take some time, some effort, but it's worth it.
- 39:50Speaker 5: You know the benefits of doing something that you didn't
- 39:52Speaker 5: think you could do, or going through that freezing cold
- 39:54Speaker 5: water and doing because you didn't want to, but.
- 39:56Speaker 4: You've done it. It's just a greatfulness ye can do that.
- 40:01Speaker 5: You know it's but when you're being pushed by somebody
- 40:04Speaker 5: from the outside, it's easier or more likely to get
- 40:07Speaker 5: done than it is when you know, I can't tell
- 40:09Speaker 5: my wife when not tell my wife run with me.
- 40:14Speaker 3: Absolutely, I can't have my woman to do a damn
- 40:17Speaker 3: thing brother.
- 40:20Speaker 5: Me.
- 40:22Speaker 1: So that's awesome. Oh, I want to meet them.
- 40:27Speaker 3: Interrogations you ought to tell you gotta see the interrogations
- 40:30Speaker 3: we go through at home.
- 40:32Speaker 1: I'm sure, I'm sure.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Okay, So, is there any advice that either you've been
- 40:39Speaker 2: given that was amazing advice or that you've you give
- 40:43Speaker 2: to people, anyone who's watching, anyone in the future who
- 40:47Speaker 2: would do the show. Any advice that you can give
- 40:51Speaker 2: all of us to get through those difficult times, you know,
- 40:55Speaker 2: to keep pushing forward and and survive and thrive.
- 41:00Speaker 5: Something you've heard a million times. But I've always been told,
- 41:03Speaker 5: never be afraid to fail. You're only failing by talking
- 41:08Speaker 5: yourself out of doing something that I have failed so
- 41:11Speaker 5: many things, so many times, but by attempting to do
- 41:14Speaker 5: something that you ain't really happy and comfortable about. If
- 41:18Speaker 5: you don't reach that goal, it doesn't matter what you
- 41:20Speaker 5: have do. He stepped over a threshold and you've opened
- 41:22Speaker 5: up new avenues. So just don't be afraid and worry
- 41:25Speaker 5: about not reaching your goals every time. Still go for it.
- 41:30Speaker 5: Always listen to people who've got experience and advice, and
- 41:33Speaker 5: without you know, being disrespectful. Well, are hear what you're saying.
- 41:36Speaker 5: But I'm going to try anyway, try and always keep
- 41:39Speaker 5: trying to do reach reach something that's difficult. And as
- 41:44Speaker 5: I say, if you don't make it, it doesn't matter because
- 41:45Speaker 5: and that's why I end up.
- 41:47Speaker 4: I never wanted to be on TV, I.
- 41:48Speaker 5: Never wanted to be doing But by going for something
- 41:51Speaker 5: else I was a bodyguard, then all of a sudden,
- 41:52Speaker 5: all these avenues open up to me. You know, So
- 41:56Speaker 5: never never be afraid. And actually by failing at building resilience,
- 42:01Speaker 5: it's making you better. But what I would say is,
- 42:03Speaker 5: when you're attempting to achieve something, if you're failing, and
- 42:06Speaker 5: you're failing and you're feeling it's almost the same reason
- 42:08Speaker 5: for failing, then.
- 42:10Speaker 4: That's not a.
- 42:13Speaker 5: You know, that's not a problem a mistake, then it's
- 42:15Speaker 5: a real problem.
- 42:17Speaker 4: You need to stop. I can't read that, let's think
- 42:20Speaker 4: of something else.
- 42:22Speaker 5: The advice is be afraid to fail and always and
- 42:26Speaker 5: always go for it. Always, always go at it, give
- 42:29Speaker 5: it your best shot. Never go with something.
- 42:33Speaker 4: If you want to do it, do it. Don't pretend
- 42:35Speaker 4: you want to do and hope it's going to work out.
- 42:38Speaker 4: Go for it.
- 42:39Speaker 2: And you know what that blends into kind of part
- 42:42Speaker 2: of my mirror room with you, and you were like,
- 42:44Speaker 2: we see that you're giving year hundred percent, and that's
- 42:47Speaker 2: kind of what I needed to hear. I just wanted
- 42:50Speaker 2: and I think that that's what we do as humans.
- 42:53Speaker 2: We want to be validated, we want to be appreciated.
- 42:56Speaker 2: And I felt like I got the validation that I
- 43:00Speaker 2: needed that you all saw that I was trying my hardest,
- 43:03Speaker 2: even though my hardest wasn't ever going to be as
- 43:06Speaker 2: good as anybody else.
- 43:07Speaker 1: You know that we're not.
- 43:09Speaker 3: Interested in that.
- 43:10Speaker 4: You've got the validation at the right time.
- 43:11Speaker 3: That's right.
- 43:12Speaker 5: If we're to give you on the beach when you
- 43:13Speaker 5: said off it, then you'd expect more of it.
- 43:16Speaker 4: It was the wrong time to give it.
- 43:18Speaker 3: You didn't need it.
- 43:18Speaker 5: Then what you needed was a kid on the.
- 43:20Speaker 4: Backside and aggressive. That's what you needed. That's what we all,
- 43:25Speaker 4: I know different, we're all you know this.
- 43:27Speaker 5: Sometimes I need that and so you got that validation
- 43:30Speaker 5: at the very very right time. Now, the other thing
- 43:32Speaker 5: about all that is, remember this, there's no concessions because
- 43:36Speaker 5: you're a female and you're smaller or you're older. You
- 43:39Speaker 5: did exactly the same as everybody else and you always will.
- 43:41Speaker 5: And that's the thing about the course, because a lot
- 43:43Speaker 5: of people say to us, well, it's unfair. They're small
- 43:46Speaker 5: ladies and they're big gents. So what you're stepping into
- 43:49Speaker 5: the forces world. The special Forces don't make compensation for
- 43:52Speaker 5: anybody totally this way. You'll do this journey, you'll do
- 43:56Speaker 5: it at this time, You'll do it at this you know, standard.
- 44:01Speaker 3: Can't.
- 44:02Speaker 5: So that's why when we explained to the audience as well,
- 44:04Speaker 5: is Trista carried exactly the same as every big man.
- 44:07Speaker 5: She kinded the same as Camp cam Newton. She went
- 44:10Speaker 5: the same distance as Cam Newton, did the same thing,
- 44:12Speaker 5: she was shouted at. She got the same ones. And
- 44:15Speaker 5: that's actually the beauty of the show is it is,
- 44:18Speaker 5: and it's not all. We don't make comes and we shouldn't,
- 44:22Speaker 5: you know. It's that's why I'll go onto it again.
- 44:26Speaker 5: That is why it's an individual journey. Yeah, journey. You know,
- 44:32Speaker 5: of course you want to get to the end, but
- 44:34Speaker 5: it doesn't matter it really. It's easy to say that,
- 44:37Speaker 5: but truly to take that away, your journey was the
- 44:41Speaker 5: two days or two and off days you were there,
- 44:44Speaker 5: and that was a lot. That was the hell of
- 44:45Speaker 5: a lot, you know, that could have ended it a
- 44:47Speaker 5: day before.
- 44:48Speaker 3: We've seen people even the first hour.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Yeah right, true.
- 44:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I love program Billy talks about this is a
- 44:58Speaker 3: character development. It's actually not, of course, it just happens
- 45:03Speaker 3: to be captured this show. Yeah right, all for your
- 45:07Speaker 3: self development. What I always appreciate is this, all the
- 45:12Speaker 3: recruits for the first time are in the elements, really
- 45:16Speaker 3: in the elements. We take it for granted. Our whole
- 45:20Speaker 3: careers have been hot, cold, miserable, sandy, filthy, and that
- 45:27Speaker 3: was for every day. And we learn that it's to
- 45:31Speaker 3: not even associated negative attitude to it to be happy
- 45:36Speaker 3: as pigs in a waller. We've been so filled in
- 45:39Speaker 3: blood and trying to keep the optics clean as we're
- 45:43Speaker 3: trying to observe. We've been in the just nasty and nasty,
- 45:47Speaker 3: and we're not upset like you know, it's not even
- 45:49Speaker 3: a negative thing to us. Now you people get a
- 45:52Speaker 3: chance to be in this really rough and tough world
- 45:56Speaker 3: that makes you cold, hot, uncomfortable. It builds character. You'll
- 46:02Speaker 3: forget the.
- 46:03Speaker 4: Lordships as well.
- 46:04Speaker 5: All you'll ever figured out is the funny side of it.
- 46:06Speaker 5: You know, don in there with you were just straight
- 46:09Speaker 5: over your face.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Like you know, it's all good.
- 46:13Speaker 5: You know, ninety percent of being in the military special
- 46:16Speaker 5: forces is actually quite boring. That's yeah, comfortable, it's miserable.
- 46:22Speaker 5: You wait for that one sliver of excitement, whether it's
- 46:26Speaker 5: capturing somebody, doing something, saving somebody, or whatever it is,
- 46:30Speaker 5: and it takes a long long time to get You
- 46:32Speaker 5: forget all that. You'll only remember that thing. You guys,
- 46:35Speaker 5: will be the same. You'll remember the funny thing said
- 46:37Speaker 5: in the dormitory, the time somebody shouted at somebody else,
- 46:41Speaker 5: so what you were called a name that made you laugh.
- 46:43Speaker 5: They're the funny things, and they're the things you'll always
- 46:45Speaker 5: remember talk about.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I love it you guys.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Thank you or sorry Staph, thank you so much for
- 46:54Speaker 2: coming on the almost famous OG podcast. I I just
- 46:58Speaker 2: wish it had been in person, and I could you hug,
- 47:00Speaker 2: But thank you so much for for making me a
- 47:03Speaker 2: better person, for giving me the opportunity to see, you know,
- 47:07Speaker 2: have a little glimpse into your world and sharing your
- 47:10Speaker 2: world with the rest of us so that you know
- 47:13Speaker 2: we can we can know more, we can do better,
- 47:16Speaker 2: and we can be better as as our own individuals.
- 47:21Speaker 5: Much frank you stepping into our arena. That's a big
- 47:24Speaker 5: bullsy call to step into that arena. What you do
- 47:27Speaker 5: you really is so well done and great, and yeah,
- 47:33Speaker 5: we we have to catch you up at some point.
- 47:35Speaker 3: We will, we will.
- 47:36Speaker 1: I would love that. We need to we need to create.
- 47:39Speaker 2: Like we're on a we're on a text thread with
- 47:41Speaker 2: everybody and we've talked about like I want to do something.
- 47:44Speaker 2: I don't know, I've been talking to publicity. I'm like,
- 47:46Speaker 2: can we please just get something on the books so
- 47:49Speaker 2: that we can all see each other in person. But anyway,
- 47:51Speaker 2: thank you so much for coming.
- 47:53Speaker 3: Yes, maybe charity events, something for veterantion.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yes, pleaseing like.
- 47:59Speaker 4: That, or even for the for the fire la.
- 48:03Speaker 3: Let's let's let's do something together.
- 48:06Speaker 4: One day of stupid it's old together to raise some
- 48:08Speaker 4: money or whatever it is.
- 48:10Speaker 1: I'm all there, I'm there. I'm there.
- 48:12Speaker 3: Yes, that's our pleasure and we love that when you recruit,
- 48:17Speaker 3: show up, you give it all you got and the
- 48:20Speaker 3: impact you make for the audience. This show is really about.
- 48:24Speaker 3: This course is really about your development and how your
- 48:28Speaker 3: audience and regular everyday people can relate to what you're
- 48:32Speaker 3: going through and it helps open up people's hearts, change lives,
- 48:37Speaker 3: gives people help. It's wonderful. We love what we do
- 48:41Speaker 3: and we couldn't do it without you.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Thank you. Thanks guys.
- 48:46Speaker 3: Be safe, bye bye,
