- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority Life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice, Daisy.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Welcome back for first two of this week's Dirty Rush.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Today, I'm speaking with three generations of my family.
- 0:21Speaker 3: I'm Lauren, Sarah, Megan, Grammy Taylor, and we're here to
- 0:27Speaker 3: answer some more questions. So let's dive into it. How
- 0:31Speaker 3: has your solreaty shaped who you are now years later?
- 0:36Speaker 4: Probably just the friendships that broils down to.
- 0:39Speaker 5: Yeah, that's all you're left with after those four years
- 0:41Speaker 5: of college is how much you keep in touch and
- 0:45Speaker 5: rehashing memories and stories and just laughing about memories, and
- 0:50Speaker 5: that's what it really is.
- 0:51Speaker 6: Left.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Oh yeah, we're doing with that too.
- 0:56Speaker 7: A lot of my s Ferriti's sisters ended up marrying
- 1:00Speaker 7: my husband's fraternity brothers, so we have had some wonderful
- 1:05Speaker 7: reunions and everything.
- 1:08Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that I agree with everything you guys
- 1:12Speaker 8: are saying, like friendships and hopefully they last forever. Since
- 1:16Speaker 8: I just graduated, but also I will stay. Being on
- 1:19Speaker 8: the recruiting side for one time I think was really
- 1:23Speaker 8: interesting just seeing the back end of the process and
- 1:26Speaker 8: it kind of made me more aware of sort of
- 1:28Speaker 8: different recruiting processes when it comes to jobs and stuff
- 1:31Speaker 8: like that, and that there's always more going on and
- 1:34Speaker 8: like more they know about you than you would even imagine.
- 1:36Speaker 8: So maybe a little bit more skeptical. Yeah, what do you.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Think sororities do really well these days? And where do
- 1:44Speaker 1: you think that they fall short?
- 1:47Speaker 8: I think there's a ton of opportunities to get involved,
- 1:49Speaker 8: At least at our school, there's like a million different positions. Yeah,
- 1:53Speaker 8: and it's not really hard to get one. So I
- 1:56Speaker 8: think that's amazing stuff you can add to your resume
- 1:59Speaker 8: leadership opportunities. And then maybe I think they fall short
- 2:03Speaker 8: in terms of actual connection. There's not a ton of
- 2:06Speaker 8: great opportunities to really connect with your whole PCs, especially
- 2:09Speaker 8: if it's like ninety girls like ours are. And so yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 8: I think that's what I would answert to that. I agree.
- 2:16Speaker 6: God, I think a lot of my friends that I've
- 2:18Speaker 6: talked about it, like the boys and their PCs all
- 2:21Speaker 6: have to know like everyone's name and know like three
- 2:25Speaker 6: facts about all of them.
- 2:26Speaker 4: They just get so.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Close through pledging and everything.
- 2:29Speaker 6: And I'm not saying that we should get haste or anything,
- 2:31Speaker 6: But I think that it's definitely super important.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Like my PC is I.
- 2:34Speaker 6: Think one hundred and ten people, and I know like
- 2:36Speaker 6: a lot of them, and I hang out with them
- 2:38Speaker 6: a lot, and I see them at chapter and different
- 2:40Speaker 6: sisterhood events. But there's still people that I will see
- 2:43Speaker 6: her in chapter and I've never met them, and it's
- 2:45Speaker 6: like when am I going to meet them?
- 2:46Speaker 4: Am I ever going to?
- 2:47Speaker 8: And I think that doing more bonding early on would
- 2:51Speaker 8: be definitely like something that I would say they fall
- 2:54Speaker 8: short with. But another thing that came to mind when
- 2:57Speaker 8: you said something that they do well is this kind
- 3:00Speaker 8: of counterintuitive, but like social events with like frats, like
- 3:03Speaker 8: when we had Day Night's first semester, like I got
- 3:05Speaker 8: to know so many of the boys and I got
- 3:07Speaker 8: super close with my friends because we would have those
- 3:10Speaker 8: like multiple.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Times a week and it would be super fun.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Yeah, that's kind of more refreshment thing.
- 3:14Speaker 7: But I think like social events and formals and stuff
- 3:16Speaker 7: for they do really well with.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Yeah, what about you guys with smaller PCs.
- 3:20Speaker 5: What I noticed they do really well now is something
- 3:23Speaker 5: that we didn't have at all is I'm always impressed.
- 3:25Speaker 4: By this social media.
- 3:27Speaker 5: Oh yeah, it's really amazing because I follow both of
- 3:31Speaker 5: you know, your all's houses, and I think I followed
- 3:34Speaker 5: Pandelantic for them, you know, for the school and the
- 3:38Speaker 5: way they can communicate and promote things and kind of
- 3:43Speaker 5: show their vibe and everything like that, that's impressive to me.
- 3:47Speaker 7: I agree, I'm not very knowledgeable about the starts.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Yeah, through you guys, you know. So, yeah, I have
- 3:55Speaker 4: a good answer for that. This is for Mama Grammy.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I think that RUSH today is harder, easier, or just
- 4:03Speaker 3: really different than when you went through it.
- 4:07Speaker 2: I think it's probably different than when where I went
- 4:12Speaker 2: to school because so many people in the houses and everything,
- 4:16Speaker 2: you know, but you can you still, you know, make
- 4:20Speaker 2: the friendships and everything if you joined. So yeah, yeah,
- 4:26Speaker 2: I would say.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Different, you know, yeah, and maybe harder.
- 4:30Speaker 5: Just I just feel like there's so much more pressure
- 4:33Speaker 5: because there's so much more awareness because of social media
- 4:37Speaker 5: and because of the trends of the most really the
- 4:42Speaker 5: past few years, especially where there's been these breakout stars
- 4:46Speaker 5: that are based on RUSH. Yeah, and they really expose
- 4:50Speaker 5: the process, and I think it makes it a little
- 4:54Speaker 5: different and hard.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 4: I agree.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Yeah, it's interesting to your point earlier where you're talking
- 4:59Speaker 3: about social media. It's such great to market yourself and
- 5:02Speaker 3: to put yourself out there as a house and really
- 5:04Speaker 3: let people get to know you before you come into
- 5:07Speaker 3: rush or to communicate about different things that are going on.
- 5:10Speaker 3: But it also just opens you up to more I
- 5:15Speaker 3: don't know if it's better or worse to have more
- 5:16Speaker 3: knowledge before going into rush, right, because then you just
- 5:19Speaker 3: have preconceived notions and think gets kind of worse.
- 5:22Speaker 7: Yeah, I that's interesting.
- 5:24Speaker 3: What is the worst advice you've ever heard given about rush?
- 5:30Speaker 4: Oh gosh, I'm trying to think.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I think like.
- 5:36Speaker 6: People trying to get information out of you and being like, well,
- 5:40Speaker 6: it's better to get it off your chest just because
- 5:41Speaker 6: they want to know what you're thinking and like where
- 5:43Speaker 6: your head's at with your like thoughts on different authorities.
- 5:48Speaker 6: I think that it's always good to kind of keep
- 5:49Speaker 6: it a little close to you and keep it private
- 5:52Speaker 6: and I do and that that definitely like works in
- 5:54Speaker 6: people's benefit if you like keep it kind of personal
- 5:57Speaker 6: because things get around and stuff.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true.
- 6:02Speaker 8: I think the worst advice is gonna spraytand in Texas
- 6:05Speaker 8: because you're gonna sweatish.
- 6:08Speaker 6: White shirt that yeahs orbs are orange it's horrible.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like the Panemtic shirt. You like pair it
- 6:18Speaker 3: with a skirt.
- 6:19Speaker 4: And they have to wear it three days and a
- 6:20Speaker 4: rossive to wash.
- 6:21Speaker 6: It and it is like two hundred outside its recipe.
- 6:26Speaker 4: For that one.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Do you look back on anything you did during Russia
- 6:32Speaker 3: and cringe?
- 6:33Speaker 4: That's a good Onok.
- 6:34Speaker 5: Yeah, some of the chants and songs that I looked
- 6:38Speaker 5: back made me cringe a little bit, and kind of
- 6:44Speaker 5: some of the not skits but music things, And yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 5: it's not very sophisticated back in the nineties.
- 6:51Speaker 3: I agree.
- 6:51Speaker 8: I think some of the TikTok dances I just like
- 6:55Speaker 8: didn't need to participated.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Wayste just snakes.
- 7:00Speaker 2: We thought, like curfew, it's just through the downstairs window.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Yeah we did.
- 7:10Speaker 4: So, I'm not real proud of that. Get caught.
- 7:15Speaker 7: No, we have like a home monitor, so it's a
- 7:22Speaker 7: little different.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Oh, we had a house mother that lived in the house,
- 7:25Speaker 2: but she'd always been asleep.
- 7:26Speaker 4: In no problem. That's funny.
- 7:31Speaker 6: I think during Rush the only thing that cringed me
- 7:33Speaker 6: out was wearing silver jewelry with like an outpit.
- 7:35Speaker 7: That was like so bad for silver jewelry.
- 7:37Speaker 4: I still think of it sometimes. That's just me.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I think during Rush, my worst moment was there was
- 7:44Speaker 1: a house that I really really didn't want, and I
- 7:46Speaker 1: was having a really bad day because I got cut
- 7:48Speaker 1: from like every house I liked, and I went in
- 7:51Speaker 1: there and I kind of watched.
- 7:53Speaker 4: It because I knew I didn't want that house, and
- 7:56Speaker 4: I feel really.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Bad about that because I think I should have given
- 7:58Speaker 1: everybody a more chance, a more open minded chance. But
- 8:05Speaker 1: the squirrel was asking me what a venger would be
- 8:08Speaker 1: if I was a supero, and honestly, I don't want to.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I was like crashing out. If your sorority were a
- 8:20Speaker 1: reality TV show, which one would it be?
- 8:25Speaker 4: I would have been The Secret Lives and Morbid Lives.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Everyone was getting married way too young.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Oh my god, Oh gosh, that's a good one.
- 8:34Speaker 5: I feel like min would have been this is before
- 8:36Speaker 5: your Guys time. But it was an MTV reality show
- 8:40Speaker 5: called The Real World.
- 8:41Speaker 4: What was it about?
- 8:42Speaker 5: It was just like they would just pick like eight
- 8:45Speaker 5: or ten strangers and put them all in a house
- 8:48Speaker 5: together and they would spend the summer together. Yeah, and
- 8:53Speaker 5: you would just see how the friendships would develop and
- 8:55Speaker 5: who would.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Hang out with you and what they would go do.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Y the real world.
- 8:59Speaker 8: I feel like ours would be some like fun show
- 9:02Speaker 8: like love Islant. Yeah, I feel like spring Breakers. Yeah,
- 9:06Speaker 8: totally totally.
- 9:09Speaker 4: I don't No, I don't what about any show, any show?
- 9:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh, let me think about it.
- 9:22Speaker 9: Oh, No, friends could be friends, or that would be
- 9:29Speaker 9: or the ones that TC could be for more ones
- 9:31Speaker 9: a wife because they're all going to the South.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Did being in different sororities from each other ever cause
- 9:53Speaker 3: any tension or friendly rivalry.
- 9:55Speaker 4: In this family?
- 9:57Speaker 8: I think when I joined a different when then you
- 10:00Speaker 8: were in at TCU, I didn't want it to hurt
- 10:02Speaker 8: your feelings or anything, but I think looking back, you
- 10:06Speaker 8: didn't care.
- 10:07Speaker 4: I think I've really checked out at that.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I haven't observed that as your mom's you know,
- 10:14Speaker 5: as your mom, I know.
- 10:15Speaker 3: And it's surprising us all being at the same school.
- 10:19Speaker 3: But I think I don't know when you think about
- 10:23Speaker 3: sisterhood when it comes to sororities, like, we already have
- 10:26Speaker 3: my favorite sisterhood, and so anything outside of that is
- 10:30Speaker 3: like extra and it's friendship, but it's not the sisterhood.
- 10:33Speaker 5: That we When you have sisters, multiple sisters, like you,
- 10:38Speaker 5: really that's your core.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Yeah, we don't hold it as high of a pedestal. Yeah, definitely.
- 10:45Speaker 3: If you could switch places and join any other person,
- 10:48Speaker 3: here's sorority. What would you pick and why? Grammy?
- 10:54Speaker 4: I would pay Grammy? Would that be fun?
- 10:56Speaker 3: I would choose Mom.
- 10:57Speaker 6: It was because Alpha house everyone, it's like the top
- 11:01Speaker 6: house across the country.
- 11:03Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 11:04Speaker 3: I feel like it is really good at nationally and
- 11:05Speaker 3: I would have loved to experience it.
- 11:07Speaker 4: At USD just chill lot. It was good.
- 11:10Speaker 5: But I also would pick the time frame of Grammy's
- 11:14Speaker 5: like in the sixties and before we had phone and
- 11:18Speaker 5: if your boyfriend wanted to call and ask you out,
- 11:21Speaker 5: he'd have to call the house phone or someone would
- 11:25Speaker 5: have to take a message for you, you know, just
- 11:27Speaker 5: like yeah, that.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Innocent times we had phone booths. You're gonna have privacy. Well,
- 11:35Speaker 4: I don't know for privacy. It was just the old
- 11:38Speaker 4: boy I'm doing. Yeah, yeah, did you was it you?
- 11:40Speaker 5: I know Dad had this for his fraternity. But did
- 11:43Speaker 5: you have a sleeping porch?
- 11:45Speaker 6: Yes?
- 11:46Speaker 4: So yeah, can you talk that? Explain the sleeping porch?
- 11:49Speaker 4: Oh my gosh.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Well it was a whole floor up from the living area,
- 11:55Speaker 2: and I guess we got to sign beds. I don't
- 11:59Speaker 2: think we got to fight over who gets what, and
- 12:04Speaker 2: you can just get up whenever you wanted.
- 12:06Speaker 4: You know, there was just a room with all the beds. Yeah,
- 12:09Speaker 4: all the beds a commuter.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Well, I will say the rooms we've shared were two
- 12:16Speaker 2: people per room and we did. I think you you've
- 12:21Speaker 2: had sort of like a day bed in there, but
- 12:23Speaker 2: it's small.
- 12:24Speaker 4: You but you were expected to sleep on the sleeping port.
- 12:27Speaker 3: That's crazy and I know, wow, do you feel like
- 12:30Speaker 3: you've got good rest?
- 12:32Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 12:32Speaker 4: I do. I don't remember it a problem.
- 12:35Speaker 6: I think I want to be able to sleep when
- 12:37Speaker 6: people like stay up late or get home and you'd
- 12:40Speaker 6: get annoyed.
- 12:41Speaker 4: No, I think you were just so used to people
- 12:44Speaker 4: coming and going.
- 12:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't even wake you up and it was
- 12:47Speaker 5: just for sleep, like that's where you were.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Yeah, right, no strangers, no, no boys a lot.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Well, thank you guys so much for joining this episode.
