- 0:00Speaker 1: There they are, Daniel, we missed you. Welcome back to
- 0:02Speaker 1: the program. Thank you happy to be here. How is everyone? Donald?
- 0:07Speaker 1: You look fly, you look happy?
- 0:09Speaker 2: You like my shirt?
- 0:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you're not wearing your drinks. You're not wearing your sweatshirt,
- 0:13Speaker 1: your Mickey Mouse sweatshirt. It's too hot for the Mickey
- 0:16Speaker 1: Mouse sweatshirt.
- 0:17Speaker 2: It's like one hundred and seventy five degrees outside right.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Now, so hot. But I love it.
- 0:24Speaker 2: It's tattooing hot.
- 0:25Speaker 1: It's hot when it's hotter where you live. Though you
- 0:28Speaker 1: live on Mars.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I don't live on Mars. I live in freaking I
- 0:32Speaker 2: live on Tattooing.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Yeah, Duel.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I've been to your house and your wife said, don't
- 0:38Speaker 1: come over before four, it'll be too hot.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I love that. My wife sounds like a prospector.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Casey said for your birthday, She's like, I don't think
- 0:48Speaker 1: we should have everybody over before four, And I was
- 0:52Speaker 1: like why, it's a birthday barbecue, of course, and she's
- 0:54Speaker 1: like yo sing. And then I got there at like four,
- 0:57Speaker 1: I was like, fuck, it's hot.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I'm a little bit bored in l A. Can we
- 1:01Speaker 1: say this, Well, you're you're a single person, like Hey,
- 1:09Speaker 1: I believe that it was Chris Rock who said married
- 1:14Speaker 1: and board. Is it single and lonely? Married and board?
- 1:17Speaker 1: Married in board? What's the saying, Donald, Hey, what what's
- 1:22Speaker 1: the saying?
- 1:24Speaker 2: Married in board? Single and lonely?
- 1:25Speaker 1: Yeah? I think l A really magnifies that because I'm
- 1:29Speaker 1: not saying you're bored if you're married in LA, don't
- 1:31Speaker 1: get me wrong, but these people with their kids and
- 1:33Speaker 1: they got the basket. No, I'm just saying, you have
- 1:38Speaker 1: so much to do. You have so much to do,
- 1:41Speaker 1: you don't have time to realize you're bored. I know,
- 1:51Speaker 1: what do you do? What's your what's your when you're
- 1:53Speaker 1: single in l A? And what's your trick to not
- 1:55Speaker 1: be bored? Because all your friends are taking their kids
- 1:58Speaker 1: to basketball tournaments?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Oh, I'm just gonna tell you that so much.
- 2:03Speaker 4: I'm from a different generation. None of my friends have children.
- 2:05Speaker 4: My very first friend is pregnant except the ones I
- 2:08Speaker 4: left in high school. Like adult friends, no babies.
- 2:13Speaker 5: So it's just a little different.
- 2:14Speaker 4: So we're constantly just calling each other being like, let's
- 2:16Speaker 4: go do something. I'm just always out with my single friends,
- 2:19Speaker 4: like where are we going next? I just take them
- 2:21Speaker 4: on going to be.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Honest with you, Zach. I'm gonna be honest with you. You
- 2:24Speaker 2: stayed single too long, and now all of your freaking
- 2:29Speaker 2: single friends are freaking married with kids, and you sitting
- 2:34Speaker 2: here having to freaking understand. Yo, why you gotta freaking
- 2:39Speaker 2: be done with the podcast by three point thirty or
- 2:43Speaker 2: why you got it? You know? Oh you have to understand. Wait,
- 2:46Speaker 2: you go into Anaheim this weekend again for basketball. You
- 2:53Speaker 2: gotta understand these things. This is what happens when you
- 2:59Speaker 2: commit to something right and.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I hear you and in something you put a lot
- 3:07Speaker 1: of things.
- 3:08Speaker 2: I put seed everywhere, just.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Through seeds like a gardener. One was like your seed
- 3:16Speaker 1: was like you know that thing they put the they
- 3:18Speaker 1: put the machine, they fill it with seed and then
- 3:20Speaker 1: they roll. It's well, I guess it is my long
- 3:30Speaker 1: winded way of saying, when you are single, New York
- 3:33Speaker 1: City is a whole lot more fun than LA.
- 3:35Speaker 4: That's just good to know what makes more exciting because
- 3:40Speaker 4: I do be getting bored out here.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Sometimes everything still spread out.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Thank you, Joell. It took you a moment to fucking
- 3:44Speaker 1: give me an amen. It's just it's just in New
- 3:49Speaker 1: York there's pedestrians I don't know if you've heard of this,
- 3:51Speaker 1: but in other cities they have pedestrians. Yeah, you can
- 3:56Speaker 1: walk places and you can like run into people and
- 3:59Speaker 1: you can be like, oh, hey, Tony, good to see you.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Do you want to grab a drink and catch up?
- 4:05Speaker 1: Can you imagine that.
- 4:08Speaker 5: In advance?
- 4:09Speaker 1: It's just way more It's just way more social and uh.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And even if you don't have anything going on, you
- 4:15Speaker 1: just walk around and people watch and you just you know,
- 4:18Speaker 1: there's just so much to do just walking around and
- 4:21Speaker 1: looking at the world. And I think in La you know,
- 4:25Speaker 1: there are there are a couple of neighborhoods that have
- 4:28Speaker 1: where you can walk around, but I don't live in one,
- 4:30Speaker 1: and I just find it a bit isolating. I'm sure
- 4:32Speaker 1: people can relate if if you're not in a relationship
- 4:35Speaker 1: and you don't have kids, and you're not at the
- 4:39Speaker 1: in your twenties or whatever partying like a crazy I
- 4:42Speaker 1: think it gets a little bit boring.
- 4:45Speaker 2: You know what you need?
- 4:46Speaker 3: Man?
- 4:47Speaker 2: What an animation room?
- 4:55Speaker 1: My god? Yeah, maybe I do need to hop That's
- 5:01Speaker 1: another thing. My hobby is like going to the arts
- 5:03Speaker 1: and seeing things. In New York, I see so many
- 5:05Speaker 1: plays and I go to I just wander into galleries
- 5:08Speaker 1: and that ship.
- 5:09Speaker 5: It's not the same out here. I've been to several
- 5:11Speaker 5: theaters and it's just not hitting.
- 5:13Speaker 2: You need a girlfriend.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Your diagnosis is that I need a girlfriend.
- 5:17Speaker 2: That's your diagnosis, girlfriend, Bro, it's that I'm telling you.
- 5:20Speaker 2: You need or a friend. You need somebody to go
- 5:24Speaker 2: out there.
- 5:24Speaker 1: A friend, Damn, dude.
- 5:26Speaker 2: No, not but like a friend that you can hang
- 5:32Speaker 2: out with and kiss on, and you know, a girlfriend.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I don't want to kiss on someone. I don't want
- 5:37Speaker 1: to kiss on someone who's not a girlfriend. This is Jim.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I'm not gay. I'm not gay. We hang out and
- 5:44Speaker 1: I kiss on him.
- 5:46Speaker 2: I was trying to be general with everyone. You need
- 5:50Speaker 2: somebody to get out there with right and enjoy and
- 5:54Speaker 2: enjoy these hobbies things that you like.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I think, yeah, I think I need to cuff up.
- 5:59Speaker 1: As they say, when's cuffing season, Joel.
- 6:03Speaker 5: That starts in November.
- 6:04Speaker 1: No, it's not November.
- 6:05Speaker 4: You're not trying to cuff gross those winters.
- 6:10Speaker 5: Listen, the summer a sweat I'm afraid of sweat. Donald.
- 6:15Speaker 4: The idea of is that it's cold and you can
- 6:19Speaker 4: no longer see bodies. You're like I don't know what
- 6:22Speaker 4: these people look like under their giant coats. I don't
- 6:24Speaker 4: know what's really happening and your massive hats.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I thought cupping season was this sound the sweat.
- 6:34Speaker 1: No, it's cuffing like you throw handcuffs on a person. Right.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Oh, I thought it was cuffing like cup like when
- 6:40Speaker 2: the sweat cup the two get and get the bruises
- 6:48Speaker 2: on your back.
- 6:49Speaker 1: It was coming from like you're putting handcuffs on someone,
- 6:52Speaker 1: You're cuffing them.
- 6:53Speaker 4: I believe that is the idea. It's like we are
- 6:55Speaker 4: now connected to one another. We have cuffed each other.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, which change that language. I don't know that
- 7:00Speaker 1: I'm ready to cuff up. Maybe. I mean, if I
- 7:03Speaker 1: met the right person, I would cuff early. I don't
- 7:05Speaker 1: know why it's November.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Immediately.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I'm fine to cuff early.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Get your cuff on you.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Yeah, is July too early to cuff?
- 7:17Speaker 6: Joel?
- 7:18Speaker 1: You think it's too hot.
- 7:20Speaker 4: I think the summer is for playing the board and
- 7:25Speaker 4: landing the plane.
- 7:26Speaker 3: But you know, you're like, Hey, I'm gonna.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Take Joel's advice. I'm gonna I'm gonna wait to cuff.
- 7:31Speaker 2: It's only a couple more months. To it's only a
- 7:33Speaker 2: few more.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I'm a bit I'm just a bit bored. I think
- 7:35Speaker 1: i just got to get out of here. Yeah, I'm
- 7:39Speaker 1: gonna get the fuck out of here because there's nothing
- 7:40Speaker 1: to do here. All my friends are cuffed and they
- 7:43Speaker 1: have little cuffing cufflings. They take their little cufflings to
- 7:50Speaker 1: basketball tournaments and don't want to do anything. So, wait,
- 7:55Speaker 1: can you correct something for me? I understand this, this
- 7:57Speaker 1: controversy about Lebron's son and nepotism or haters saying that.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Are the haters saying, and I don't know anything about basketball,
- 8:05Speaker 1: that he's not good enough to be on the team.
- 8:07Speaker 2: That's not Yeah, they're just saying, yes, No, that's not.
- 8:10Speaker 2: That's what they're saying.
- 8:11Speaker 5: It's absolutely saying that.
- 8:12Speaker 2: But that's not. That's not one person is saying that,
- 8:17Speaker 2: and not one serious person about sports who understands sports
- 8:21Speaker 2: is saying that. Fucking haters are saying that. But the
- 8:24Speaker 2: thing is they're saying he's good. But nobody's ever been
- 8:31Speaker 2: the fifty fifth pick in the draft and has gotten
- 8:34Speaker 2: it much hype. So because Lebron is not just as.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Much this much money, right, he got back shack he's
- 8:43Speaker 4: got a heart condition.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Nepotism. Man, Listen, yes, listen, I'm gonna keep it one hundred.
- 8:48Speaker 2: If you're gonna bet on anybody, aren't you gonna bet
- 8:50Speaker 2: on Lebron's kid, the kid who's been going through the training,
- 8:53Speaker 2: his whole.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Didn't bet on Michael Jordan's children.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Michael Jordan's didn't do what Lebron's kids did. You guys,
- 9:03Speaker 2: Let's let's see that. Let's see how this pans out.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Let's see how this pans out. Give it a give
- 9:10Speaker 2: it the three years four year situation. Let's see how
- 9:14Speaker 2: this pans out. I think a lot of people are
- 9:16Speaker 2: going to be like, yo, man, I was wrong. Lebron
- 9:19Speaker 2: is pretty good man, Brownie Junior, I guarantee it. You
- 9:23Speaker 2: can already see.
- 9:24Speaker 1: The kid hasn yes and they call him Bronni. That's
- 9:28Speaker 1: his nickname. Educated on this? All right, Well, we're gonna
- 9:31Speaker 1: stay tuned, everyone, and we're gonna see how Bronnie does.
- 9:34Speaker 1: All right, are you ready? Donald? Do you know Aisha Tyler?
- 9:42Speaker 2: We've hung out a couple of times.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Now I want to ask him the very first question
- 9:48Speaker 1: that's on my mind. And I'm very excited because Aisha
- 9:51Speaker 1: covers a lot of subjects that you like, including video
- 9:54Speaker 1: games and Star Wars and animation, and you saying there's
- 10:02Speaker 1: never any black people on Friends.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Well, that's the one thing I wanted to talk to
- 10:06Speaker 2: her about. She freaking broke the matrix. Everybody's like, wait
- 10:10Speaker 2: a second, wait.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Whoa whoa whoa whoa count I said, baby girl, stories,
- 10:17Speaker 1: I'm not show. We made about a bunch of times
- 10:21Speaker 1: and nurses.
- 10:22Speaker 7: And he said, he's the stories nephews. No, so YadA
- 10:30Speaker 7: round here, yeada round here up sweat me.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yeah, she's in the booth.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Wowhi god, why have you not aged one hour? What
- 10:49Speaker 1: the fuck?
- 10:50Speaker 3: Oh, Adrina, I've been adreana chroming. I don't know if
- 10:52Speaker 3: you guys have heard about adrena chroming. It's so great.
- 10:55Speaker 2: What are you saying chroming?
- 10:57Speaker 1: What's a dream of chroming?
- 10:58Speaker 3: Oh? Drinking babies? You know? Check out the internet.
- 11:01Speaker 1: You look twenty one years old, and I have aged
- 11:06Speaker 1: and you haven't.
- 11:07Speaker 6: You look as handsome as ever, radiating masculine energy through
- 11:11Speaker 6: my computer.
- 11:12Speaker 3: The both of you.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Welcome to the program. That's that you know, Donald, and
- 11:17Speaker 1: that's our DJ. Daniel's our engineer. That's Joel Monique our producer. Hi, guys,
- 11:22Speaker 1: Daniel's going to ask you about your sound. Go ahead, Daniel,
- 11:24Speaker 1: real quick. Hi, you should pleasure Hi.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Hi.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Do you happen to be wearing headphones at the moment?
- 11:29Speaker 3: I'm wearing ear butt.
- 11:30Speaker 1: That rules great. It looks like you are in a
- 11:34Speaker 1: quiet space.
- 11:35Speaker 3: I am in a sound boost in that.
- 11:38Speaker 6: Because I'm a douche bag like I have a sound boot.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Money. You're making money.
- 11:44Speaker 1: You're making that v oh money, You're making that.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Everybody understands.
- 11:50Speaker 1: All right, Welcome to the Thank you, all right, Daniel,
- 11:52Speaker 1: stop talking you welcome to the program.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Are you sure, Daniel?
- 11:57Speaker 3: I already see what the dynamic is here, Daniel, Daniel,
- 12:05Speaker 3: now you can up all right.
- 12:06Speaker 1: He just likes to do his monologue. We're so happy
- 12:09Speaker 1: to have you. We have so many things to ask
- 12:11Speaker 1: you about. It's so good to see you. There's so
- 12:14Speaker 1: many areas where our lives overlap. Most importantly, we want
- 12:17Speaker 1: to start right off the bat because Donald has always
- 12:19Speaker 1: said that there were no black people on Friends.
- 12:22Speaker 2: You broke the matrix.
- 12:23Speaker 1: You broke the trix, and Donald has we were gonna
- 12:27Speaker 1: when we when we finished doing the scrubs, we watch program.
- 12:31Speaker 1: We said maybe we should watch Friends, and Donald said, no,
- 12:34Speaker 1: I he's just the only black person that's ever been
- 12:36Speaker 1: on Friends.
- 12:38Speaker 3: You be to it, immediately.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Tell us about that other black people on Friends, Like now,
- 12:44Speaker 6: I realized that they might have been stress testing the concept,
- 12:47Speaker 6: right because Gabby you know, was on for one episode.
- 12:51Speaker 3: And she also dated Joey Right. And then I.
- 12:55Speaker 6: Literally just the other day I realized that Sherry Shepherd
- 12:58Speaker 6: was on there. I'm not quite sure, but she was right,
- 13:00Speaker 6: so they were They kept dipping their toe into the
- 13:04Speaker 6: the tepid waters of diversity.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Going back, tell me Sherry Shepherd had more than one
- 13:09Speaker 2: scene on French.
- 13:11Speaker 3: It was probably just one scene, and there was a
- 13:13Speaker 3: black guy.
- 13:14Speaker 6: There are a couple of black people at the office,
- 13:15Speaker 6: right Joelle, I'd be like, Joel was the authoritative person.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Friends.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Why can't I think of her name?
- 13:22Speaker 4: The It was on it and she was great too.
- 13:28Speaker 4: But it's a lot of like most of I think
- 13:30Speaker 4: all except for maybe you know had like is one
- 13:33Speaker 4: episode kind of feature.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I you should tell us about your experience on that,
- 13:38Speaker 1: just right off the bat, because I think it's the
- 13:40Speaker 1: most part. It's got to be the most popular suitcum
- 13:42Speaker 1: of all time. It seems to me and still is.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I think, yeah, it keeps going. Every generation continues to
- 13:48Speaker 1: find it. And I wondered, I wondered, if you had
- 13:52Speaker 1: a good time, what was.
- 13:52Speaker 3: It like I did? I mean, I did have a
- 13:54Speaker 3: good time.
- 13:55Speaker 6: You know Donald's Protestations, Uh, to the to the to
- 13:59Speaker 6: the side.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I mean, like it was.
- 14:01Speaker 6: It was the biggest show on TV at that time,
- 14:03Speaker 6: and I was very confident I wasn't going to get
- 14:04Speaker 6: the jobs.
- 14:05Speaker 3: That was cool, you know what I mean.
- 14:06Speaker 6: Like I know, sometimes you go and you're like, well,
- 14:07Speaker 6: this is going to be fine. I'll get to meet
- 14:08Speaker 6: some friends. I'm never going to work here. So maybe
- 14:11Speaker 6: I was a little bit more relaxed than other people.
- 14:13Speaker 6: But I do remember very vividly that at the time
- 14:16Speaker 6: I was doing stand up full time, which meant that
- 14:19Speaker 6: I was a vampire. So you know, you stay out
- 14:20Speaker 6: to two in the morning, you sleep until ten or twelve,
- 14:22Speaker 6: you have two bowls of cocoa puffs, you watch some cartoons,
- 14:26Speaker 6: and then I would watch the Friends reruns right from
- 14:28Speaker 6: five to six o'clock, like KTLA five. So by the time,
- 14:32Speaker 6: see you, jo all knows what I'm talking about. So
- 14:34Speaker 6: by the time that I went in for the audition.
- 14:38Speaker 6: The only thing I did know was that I had
- 14:40Speaker 6: seen every episode.
- 14:42Speaker 1: That's good.
- 14:44Speaker 6: Truck and you guys are both, you know, extraordinary comedic
- 14:47Speaker 6: actors and so, you know, like comedy, and specifically like sitcom.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Comedy is its own animal, It has.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Its own math. I never got callbacks for him because
- 14:55Speaker 1: I couldn't figure out the math and.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Study of a massive pitch.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I know what I mean. I'm not being self deprecating.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I had been in the theater, I had done I
- 15:06Speaker 1: had done plays, but I never I mean, I'm not
- 15:08Speaker 1: saying that I couldn't if I tried.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Now, but every time you've been on the sitcom you
- 15:12Speaker 2: crush but okay.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Thank you. But I never in auditioning for them. I
- 15:15Speaker 1: never could quite get that rhythm right because.
- 15:17Speaker 2: You are studying back then. It's very specific. And I
- 15:21Speaker 2: did it. She would come on, she said it, You
- 15:24Speaker 2: said it yourself. You would get off off the stage,
- 15:26Speaker 2: go home and watch sitcoms.
- 15:29Speaker 6: But it's funny because it was so even looking back
- 15:33Speaker 6: at it now, I think, and that show is still
- 15:35Speaker 6: so popular. There's such a specificity to four camera comedy,
- 15:40Speaker 6: even different from like Scrubs, which is single camera, and
- 15:42Speaker 6: you guys could be more naturalistic and you had a
- 15:44Speaker 6: lot more kind of like character stuff that was just
- 15:45Speaker 6: like I had this really specific case.
- 15:49Speaker 3: So all I knew going in was like, well, I
- 15:51Speaker 3: know how to tell a friend's joke that I liked.
- 15:53Speaker 6: All I knew was I know how to tell I
- 15:55Speaker 6: know how this joke is supposed to sound right.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Whether I'm going to do it well or not, whether
- 15:59Speaker 3: they're going to like me, I know how to tell it. Yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 3: And I remember that. I walked in, and I know
- 16:02Speaker 3: you guys have had this experience. I walked in and
- 16:04Speaker 3: there was just like so many famous.
- 16:06Speaker 6: People I heard, and I was not one of them,
- 16:09Speaker 6: Like you.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Know, like at least a bonet was down the hallway.
- 16:12Speaker 3: I was like, well, I just need to get back
- 16:13Speaker 3: in the car.
- 16:13Speaker 1: And go right happen.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I had the exact opposite experience.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Where you were the most famous person, where.
- 16:20Speaker 2: My manager was like, this is the worst. My manager
- 16:23Speaker 2: was like, it's a special audition. It's just going to
- 16:25Speaker 2: be you, no one else, You and the director. It's
- 16:29Speaker 2: going to be such a great audition. They want to
- 16:31Speaker 2: just see you. I walked in. It was me and
- 16:35Speaker 2: a lot of people that were not working yet, but
- 16:41Speaker 2: we're on their way. And it was for like the
- 16:44Speaker 2: casting director, and I was like, I got to get
- 16:46Speaker 2: rid of this fucking manager bro.
- 16:47Speaker 3: He was just he was tricksy.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I always used to get so in my head when
- 16:51Speaker 1: I was auditioning and I'd sit in the waiting room,
- 16:53Speaker 1: this back before I got scrubs and was was not
- 16:58Speaker 1: known yet, and i would sit in them and I'd
- 17:00Speaker 1: look around at just the most handsome men in the world,
- 17:04Speaker 1: and I'd be like, I'm not going to get this part.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I don't think because I don't look like that. And
- 17:10Speaker 1: then occasionally I would hear them through the through the
- 17:13Speaker 1: wall doing their audition and I'd be like, oh, maybe
- 17:17Speaker 1: I have a shot because they can't act right.
- 17:21Speaker 6: But I cannot spring a full sentence together with all
- 17:24Speaker 6: of the required parts right.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I'd be like, Okay, well, maybe it's like you know,
- 17:30Speaker 1: one to one right now, because he looks like that,
- 17:32Speaker 1: but he's not funny at all.
- 17:34Speaker 3: How did he get up the stairs? How did he
- 17:37Speaker 3: navigate the elevator? Buttons?
- 17:39Speaker 2: Yes, I will say this, this is a great segue.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Well we can still talk about friends. But to be
- 17:44Speaker 2: able to do voiceover and also be able to be
- 17:47Speaker 2: physical and natural with your movement and to hear and listen,
- 17:52Speaker 2: but to be able to do voiceover and know specifically
- 17:55Speaker 2: what the cadence and what the rhythm of the comedy
- 17:58Speaker 2: is supposed to be helps a lot. And you two
- 18:01Speaker 2: are both very very very good at voiceover, and that
- 18:07Speaker 2: I think that helps you both.
- 18:09Speaker 1: I love it so much. I wonder, Aisha, how you
- 18:11Speaker 1: found such a lane in that, because you're very popular
- 18:14Speaker 1: in that, in that space, and how did that, how
- 18:16Speaker 1: did that kind of come about?
- 18:18Speaker 3: Oh? Magic? I mean, you know so much of this business.
- 18:20Speaker 6: I mean, sure you have to train and you have
- 18:22Speaker 6: to be good, but we all know brilliant people who
- 18:24Speaker 6: don't work, and we know ding dongs who do right,
- 18:26Speaker 6: So like a lot of it is just you know,
- 18:28Speaker 6: trying to be ready and then hopefully, like the window
- 18:30Speaker 6: cracks open and you burst through and hopefully you have
- 18:33Speaker 6: pants on when you do it.
- 18:34Speaker 3: I literally like it was like this, It was just
- 18:38Speaker 3: one thing. It was just Archer.
- 18:39Speaker 6: That was the thing that opened everything else and it
- 18:42Speaker 6: and it was an offer, So like I can't claim
- 18:44Speaker 6: any magic about I went in, I wowed them. You know,
- 18:47Speaker 6: they knew me maybe from talk soup. I do remember
- 18:49Speaker 6: that when I was doing talk Soup, I was obsessed
- 18:51Speaker 6: with Seam twenty twenty one.
- 18:53Speaker 3: And for people who haven't seen.
- 18:54Speaker 6: It, and this, this was a show that these guys
- 18:56Speaker 6: did before Frisky didn't go And they took an old
- 18:58Speaker 6: ChIL from the seventies. It was called Sea Left two
- 19:00Speaker 6: and they just like revoice all the characters like the
- 19:02Speaker 6: same animation.
- 19:04Speaker 1: That's sounds hiious.
- 19:05Speaker 6: Oh it was brilliant and like they lived at this
- 19:08Speaker 6: sea lab under this sea obviously, and they were all insane.
- 19:12Speaker 6: So like that was it which you would be if
- 19:13Speaker 6: you lived und the sea for any extended amount of time.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Concept by the way, so I interrupt you, but that
- 19:18Speaker 1: concept needs to be It should be brought back, find
- 19:21Speaker 1: some old ass animation and then just revoice it with
- 19:24Speaker 1: funnier new shit.
- 19:25Speaker 6: Absolutely, And like one of the guys had a girlfriend
- 19:28Speaker 6: who was made out of a mop and a bucket
- 19:29Speaker 6: and he would have sex with her like in a closet,
- 19:31Speaker 6: and like everybody was always fighting and like eating off
- 19:34Speaker 6: the ground.
- 19:34Speaker 3: I mean, it was genius.
- 19:35Speaker 6: So I would talk about it all the time on
- 19:37Speaker 6: Maybe that's how they knew about me because I couldn't
- 19:38Speaker 6: stop talking about twenty twenty one. And so when I
- 19:41Speaker 6: got the script and I read it, I was like, Okay,
- 19:43Speaker 6: this is way too smart and funny to ever actually
- 19:45Speaker 6: become a series.
- 19:46Speaker 3: It's never gonna go.
- 19:48Speaker 6: So I'm gonna just get to go to Atlanta and
- 19:50Speaker 6: kick it with the Sea Lab twenty twenty one guys
- 19:52Speaker 6: and like steal some some freedom hips out of the
- 19:55Speaker 6: pantry at the voiceover facility and fly back to LA.
- 19:57Speaker 3: And that was it. I was like, this is never
- 19:59Speaker 3: gonna happen. And I remember when it went.
- 20:02Speaker 6: Adam Reori called me and like we had a full
- 20:04Speaker 6: ten minutes of like just laughter because we were like
- 20:07Speaker 6: this is wild, like we none of us expected this.
- 20:10Speaker 6: And then you know, it went fourteen seasons. But no
- 20:13Speaker 6: credit to me, that show is, in my opinion, the
- 20:16Speaker 6: best written and the most beautifully animated adult I have to.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Confess something that's going to make Jo will tear up,
- 20:24Speaker 1: but I've never seen Archer, and.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Joe was already disappointed, and Reason.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Clicks back on to shake his head. And I know this.
- 20:33Speaker 1: You know why I am embarrassed to say it. I
- 20:34Speaker 1: have had so many people who have the same taste
- 20:37Speaker 1: as I. We have a shared sens of humor. Who say,
- 20:40Speaker 1: why are you not watching Archer? You would love Archer?
- 20:43Speaker 1: You would love it. I think I'm going to finally
- 20:46Speaker 1: give it a try because.
- 20:47Speaker 3: It will shock you. It was.
- 20:49Speaker 6: I mean, like I like, even though I wasn't on it,
- 20:50Speaker 6: I would say, it will shock you with how extraordinary
- 20:53Speaker 6: it is. And like even being on it, like sometimes
- 20:55Speaker 6: I'll see something like, oh we did that.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Oh shit, because the show.
- 20:57Speaker 6: Is like I mean, it's like super edge. It's high edge.
- 21:03Speaker 6: I mean, I like, it's Edora good.
- 21:08Speaker 3: You'll see.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Donald loves to be edged.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Before Hold up, do you remember that's where it started, right.
- 21:24Speaker 1: That's where you jumped off right.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Yeah, let's let's talk about that real quick, because that's real.
- 21:31Speaker 2: It's real dope. First of all, you're the first black
- 21:34Speaker 2: person the host talk suit, first woman the host talk Suit.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I mean you went all in right, like straight up, like,
- 21:42Speaker 2: let's go. That's a lot of pressure.
- 21:45Speaker 6: I'll tell you a story about how that went that
- 21:47Speaker 6: I think will be illustrative. So I I was a
- 21:51Speaker 6: standard full time stand up at the time, and I
- 21:53Speaker 6: saw that they were looking for a host and I
- 21:55Speaker 6: had loved that show.
- 21:55Speaker 3: I was I was a fan of the show, and.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I wanted to.
- 21:58Speaker 3: It was such a great show and I had such a.
- 22:00Speaker 6: Watch Oh the culture out of here, the culture.
- 22:09Speaker 1: That's true. The only Friends episode you watched was the
- 22:11Speaker 1: ones you were on. I love it.
- 22:14Speaker 6: So I wanted to watch this for it. And my
- 22:16Speaker 6: manager at the time is like, they'll never hire a
- 22:18Speaker 6: black girl. I was like, okay, thanks for your belief
- 22:20Speaker 6: in me. Uh And I got my agent system at
- 22:23Speaker 6: me for it. And again it was just a thing
- 22:25Speaker 6: where I knew the show, so I knew how to
- 22:27Speaker 6: tell a talk soup joke. But they wouldn't hire me
- 22:30Speaker 6: because I wasn't famous enough and so, but.
- 22:33Speaker 3: I was looking at the people they were putting on there.
- 22:34Speaker 6: I was like, y'all, you need to work on your
- 22:36Speaker 6: like your your barometric standards. And but I was a
- 22:38Speaker 6: regular at the time on the show that the precursor
- 22:42Speaker 6: to Real Time Politically and Correct with Bill Maher, which
- 22:44Speaker 6: was on CBS. So I had done a bunch of
- 22:45Speaker 6: like comedic television appearances. I was like, I got them
- 22:48Speaker 6: to give me one and they were giving me everybody
- 22:49Speaker 6: a week.
- 22:50Speaker 3: They gave me one episode.
- 22:52Speaker 6: They gave me one episode to show what I could
- 22:54Speaker 6: do and I went on and I just have and
- 22:57Speaker 6: I did, especially back then, but I still do kind
- 22:59Speaker 6: of like a college dude sense of humor.
- 23:02Speaker 3: And it just worked.
- 23:03Speaker 6: It just clicked with the fans and they wrote in
- 23:04Speaker 6: like literally, I got written onto that show. They were like,
- 23:07Speaker 6: we got more fan mail for for you than anybody
- 23:09Speaker 6: else who's done this show. So I got voted in
- 23:11Speaker 6: because nobody over there believed in me. And I had
- 23:13Speaker 6: so many executives dudes be like, I don't know, man,
- 23:16Speaker 6: like the fans all white boys, how is that going
- 23:18Speaker 6: to work? I was like, my boys, look at me.
- 23:22Speaker 6: I am literally like one made me in a computer.
- 23:29Speaker 6: Look at me.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Wow, Like we're in science too. It was about me.
- 23:36Speaker 1: So it was they should make Donald and I would
- 23:42Speaker 1: be there for weird Science too sweet. How does your
- 23:45Speaker 1: memory it started? It all started with Greg Kinney or
- 23:47Speaker 1: that's what started his.
- 23:48Speaker 6: Career here, and then it was John John Henson, John Henson,
- 23:54Speaker 6: and then House Sparks and then me and I saw
- 23:57Speaker 6: John Henson in the Ralphs on Uh Librea and third
- 24:03Speaker 6: you know that Ralph like in the produce section, and
- 24:06Speaker 6: he was and this was after House Sparks and he's
- 24:07Speaker 6: been off a while, and he was like, I'm so
- 24:09Speaker 6: excited for you.
- 24:09Speaker 3: I really want you to get this job. I'm gonna
- 24:11Speaker 3: make sure I'm gonna call it.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Where did they kick him off? What did happened to him?
- 24:14Speaker 3: Johnny left to do other stuff?
- 24:16Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 24:16Speaker 3: It was Yeah, like.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Everybody was really good. I really liked him great.
- 24:19Speaker 3: He's such a great guy.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Like he is he a stand up Still what does
- 24:23Speaker 1: he do these days?
- 24:24Speaker 6: I you know, I'm not in the stand up like
- 24:27Speaker 6: community and not like I like rejected im and just
- 24:29Speaker 6: like wandered off to do other stuff.
- 24:31Speaker 3: But I know he was hosting that the wipe out.
- 24:35Speaker 6: I think he was hosting wipeout from you know, the
- 24:37Speaker 6: one where everybody gets popped in the face with the fist.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Yes, like the version of the Japanese show. But he so,
- 24:44Speaker 3: I'm sure he's still tours.
- 24:45Speaker 6: He's He's just he was just like a very generous
- 24:48Speaker 6: soul and I remember like really encouraging to me. And
- 24:50Speaker 6: I'm actually on great in terms of all those guys.
- 24:53Speaker 1: That was before the social media craze.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Was this was no Twitter.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like that show would be tough now
- 25:01Speaker 1: because the jokes were such that it was Twitter.
- 25:05Speaker 3: It was like, uh.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Twitter, Yeah, it was finding all of the memes, all
- 25:12Speaker 2: of that stuff and putting it up there and talking
- 25:14Speaker 2: about it and and and then writing the comments underneath it.
- 25:17Speaker 2: But was the comments that was.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Exactly are you still on Twitter?
- 25:23Speaker 3: You know what? Sex?
- 25:25Speaker 6: So here's what happened. Like I left it, and then
- 25:27Speaker 6: I like left it a second time. But I didn't
- 25:29Speaker 6: want to abandon my handle because I don't want somebody
- 25:32Speaker 6: to squad it.
- 25:33Speaker 3: So I still have it.
- 25:34Speaker 6: And then it's hard to leave what is like a
- 25:36Speaker 6: built up, you know, puddle of value. People who follow you,
- 25:40Speaker 6: people who want to support you.
- 25:42Speaker 3: So I didn't want to abandon them.
- 25:43Speaker 6: So I post very occasionally, but I don't spend most
- 25:47Speaker 6: of my time there.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Yeah, it's iced to love it, man, I know you
- 25:52Speaker 1: and I have to be really active on it too.
- 25:55Speaker 1: And I have to say I turned it on recently
- 25:59Speaker 1: just to just to see what was happening, and.
- 26:02Speaker 3: What was happening burning dumpster.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Pretty intense over there. Yeah, I would say that it's
- 26:08Speaker 1: a it's a city.
- 26:09Speaker 6: It's the stuff that you didn't see before because there
- 26:11Speaker 6: was so much other positive stuff happening, Like all the
- 26:13Speaker 6: positives have gone, So you're pretty much a just seeing
- 26:16Speaker 6: like the dregs.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I definitely say that, you know, the snark and
- 26:20Speaker 1: sass and sarcasm and anger if you took all those
- 26:24Speaker 1: dials and just like a mixing board and push them
- 26:26Speaker 1: all to the top. So it's not a very pleasurable,
- 26:31Speaker 1: pleasurable spot.
- 26:32Speaker 3: I really enjoy Twitter like I used to love it.
- 26:35Speaker 2: We were talking about hate earlier and how Lebron James
- 26:39Speaker 2: this son is being. I think he's the most hated kid.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I mean, granted, the kid got paid a lot of money,
- 26:44Speaker 2: but I think he's the most hated kid in sports
- 26:46Speaker 2: right now.
- 26:47Speaker 3: It's just envy, though, isn't it.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I feel like it's the same thing. And I feel
- 26:52Speaker 2: like if I'm a bed on anyone, I think this
- 26:55Speaker 2: is the kid to bed on, don't you like you
- 26:57Speaker 2: know what I mean?
- 26:58Speaker 6: People are kind of giving him like the you know,
- 27:01Speaker 6: the kind of a nepo baby thing. But he's an athlete,
- 27:03Speaker 6: Like he still had to prove himself and.
- 27:05Speaker 3: If he washes out, he's going to wash out on
- 27:07Speaker 3: his own terms.
- 27:07Speaker 6: He's still got to show improved And I feel like
- 27:10Speaker 6: an athlete, the son of an athlete even more than
- 27:12Speaker 6: the son of somebody in another you know, area of work.
- 27:16Speaker 6: They still have to train, and they still like and
- 27:18Speaker 6: they're being raised by someone who understands what it takes
- 27:20Speaker 6: physical but.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, you know what I mean.
- 27:23Speaker 2: And and one of Joelle's things was just like, well,
- 27:26Speaker 2: Michael Jordan's kids didn't make it. I don't think Michael
- 27:28Speaker 2: Jordan's kids wanted to play basketball. This kid wants to
- 27:32Speaker 2: play basketball.
- 27:33Speaker 3: I think some kids are like, I don't want that myself.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Yeah, he wants to be great. So I me, personally,
- 27:41Speaker 2: I bet on this young man and we'll see what
- 27:43Speaker 2: happens in a few years and how well he does.
- 27:46Speaker 6: We also don't know if Jordan was like, you know,
- 27:49Speaker 6: pulling a King Richard or was like do what you want,
- 27:52Speaker 6: because it does seem like Lebron was like, one of
- 27:54Speaker 6: you is gonna play basketball?
- 27:56Speaker 3: Like me, what do you make it out here?
- 27:59Speaker 6: Because and you know that kid's self selected to be
- 28:02Speaker 6: the one.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Oh even the youngest boy Bryce, this boy's killing he's
- 28:07Speaker 2: on team US.
- 28:09Speaker 1: You know, what did you expect? I mean, there's so
- 28:11Speaker 1: much of this whole NEPO baby criticism out there, even
- 28:15Speaker 1: when even when there's even when there's extreme talents.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Do you guys both have kids?
- 28:19Speaker 1: I do, I have Donald's kids.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Oh that's nice, Sharon Sharlot.
- 28:24Speaker 6: I think I don't, and I won't and I but
- 28:27Speaker 6: I wonder if I did, whether I would be pushing
- 28:30Speaker 6: them towards what I do for I don't know whether
- 28:33Speaker 6: i'd be pushing them towards what I do for a living,
- 28:34Speaker 6: or or whether I'd be encouraging them.
- 28:36Speaker 3: To do something else.
- 28:37Speaker 6: Because this is such a disappointing and tough business. I
- 28:40Speaker 6: might be like, no, no, no, you know, go be
- 28:41Speaker 6: a lawyer.
- 28:42Speaker 1: I would never tell my kids to get into entertainment.
- 28:45Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know what.
- 28:45Speaker 3: If they came to you and said, I want to
- 28:47Speaker 3: do what you do, what would you say?
- 28:48Speaker 1: I would never stop them because my parents certainly never
- 28:50Speaker 1: set a single sentence that was negative about me pursuing
- 28:53Speaker 1: my dreams. But I do think it's a whole lot
- 28:57Speaker 1: harder in twenty twenty four than it was in nineteen
- 29:01Speaker 1: ninety seven when I graduated college. So I don't know
- 29:07Speaker 1: I would, I would, you know, I don't know that
- 29:09Speaker 1: you can ever, you know, you know, pooh pooh, your
- 29:13Speaker 1: your child's dream. But I don't know, I think it's very,
- 29:18Speaker 1: very for the odds are so much harder, I think,
- 29:20Speaker 1: even than they were back in the day.
- 29:21Speaker 2: I mean, the question is nepotism. I don't have a
- 29:25Speaker 2: problem with young kids becoming actors because of watching what
- 29:31Speaker 2: their parents did, and if they've developed their talent from
- 29:35Speaker 2: their parents and watching their parents. I don't think there's
- 29:38Speaker 2: anything wrong with that.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Well, there's some people who complain about it, but I
- 29:44Speaker 1: always think, so, you're telling me, this beautiful woman and
- 29:48Speaker 1: this beautiful man, who are both talented, came together and
- 29:51Speaker 1: they made a child, and the child happens to be
- 29:54Speaker 1: good looking and has some natural ability. Why is that
- 29:59Speaker 1: surprising to him anyone? Why? I think?
- 30:02Speaker 6: I think it's beyond that too, which is that this
- 30:04Speaker 6: business is not really that merit driven, right. There's a
- 30:07Speaker 6: certain amount of like merit involved, but it's not really
- 30:10Speaker 6: a meritocracy. So on the business side, they're looking for
- 30:13Speaker 6: a leg up, right, They're looking for a way to
- 30:16Speaker 6: kind of hedge their bets. So if they're going to
- 30:18Speaker 6: hire a kid and that name is familiar to audiences,
- 30:23Speaker 6: they're going to hire that kid because they feel like
- 30:24Speaker 6: there's going to be a built in curiosity or maybe
- 30:27Speaker 6: even audience for that kid over this other talented person
- 30:29Speaker 6: with no name. But it's always been that way since
- 30:32Speaker 6: the beginning of the industry.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I was going to say, but when has it been different?
- 30:36Speaker 3: When has Yeah? Exactly, it's always been my way.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Judy Garland's children all the way.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Down, you know what I mean, can't perform. They're not
- 30:44Speaker 1: going to get very far at all.
- 30:45Speaker 6: Yeah, they're not getting well. They might get further that
- 30:48Speaker 6: they'll eventually hit a wall. But we got a couple
- 30:50Speaker 6: people rooting around out there who who could probably.
- 30:54Speaker 1: I just feel like, you know, Lebron, Okay, so let's
- 30:56Speaker 1: say nepotism gets Lebron's son in and obviously he's very talented,
- 31:00Speaker 1: but he's not gonna he's not going to go very
- 31:03Speaker 1: far if he ends up being horrible, right, Yeah, he
- 31:05Speaker 1: washed out.
- 31:05Speaker 6: Like everybody else, especially at athletics. I think in acting
- 31:08Speaker 6: you could go a lot further. But I think in pro.
- 31:10Speaker 2: You can't hide I mean, he got the money, but
- 31:13Speaker 2: you can't hide ability. They'll send him to the G
- 31:15Speaker 2: League for that whole contract if he doesn't pay out.
- 31:18Speaker 1: What's the G League? What happens there?
- 31:21Speaker 2: That's where they send kids who aren't yet developed enough
- 31:25Speaker 2: to play in the NBA.
- 31:26Speaker 3: That's kind of.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Oh I never even knew there was a G league.
- 31:32Speaker 3: Where do they play? They're like the Compton Knickerbockers.
- 31:38Speaker 2: LA actually has a team, so they play in staples,
- 31:42Speaker 2: they play you know, oh wow, yeah, they well not
- 31:45Speaker 2: all the time, but they you know, they play in arenas.
- 31:48Speaker 1: All right, we had to take a quick break. We
- 31:50Speaker 1: had to take quick break. When we come back.
- 31:52Speaker 3: We have made this is like a real radio show.
- 31:55Speaker 3: We're taking a break.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Yeah, we're going to take a break and you're going
- 31:57Speaker 1: to be so surprised about this break. I'm going to
- 31:59Speaker 1: tell you about it during the rank. There we go. Audience,
- 32:02Speaker 1: are you ready? These are commercials, but they're really really
- 32:04Speaker 1: good ones. Listen about.
- 32:15Speaker 3: All can't believe what happened?
- 32:16Speaker 1: Yes, there was some crazy stuff. Well that's where we
- 32:21Speaker 1: do all the X rated Patreon uh stuff.
- 32:24Speaker 3: You're never going to see it or hear you don't
- 32:26Speaker 3: get behind this paywall.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Yeah, you got to get behind the paywall to hear
- 32:30Speaker 1: talk x rage. I was on a podcast recently and
- 32:39Speaker 1: he said, okay, now for the Patreon five questions or something,
- 32:42Speaker 1: and I was like, wait, so these people have to
- 32:44Speaker 1: pay to hear these questions, and which was what the
- 32:48Speaker 1: implication was. So I can't imagine what Donald and I
- 32:51Speaker 1: would hide behind a Patreon wall. All the content makes
- 32:55Speaker 1: us probably all the content you will makes us cut.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Joel is like the den mother who's like, Okay, that
- 33:03Speaker 1: was a good show. I'll be cutting this this, this, this, this, this, this, this,
- 33:08Speaker 1: We actually record for seven hours audience to make an
- 33:11Speaker 1: hour program for you.
- 33:15Speaker 3: Oh, I go sure. I was like, just like fake
- 33:19Speaker 3: doctors after dark.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I should tell us about video games? Do you
- 33:24Speaker 1: still play? Are you an avid player? Still?
- 33:28Speaker 3: It's very painful.
- 33:29Speaker 6: This is a painful point because I'm I'm not, but
- 33:31Speaker 6: not for lack of wanting to be. I just don't
- 33:33Speaker 6: have the same bandwidth that I had when I was gaming,
- 33:36Speaker 6: like when I was coming home after work and like
- 33:37Speaker 6: you know, playing until four in the morning and so
- 33:40Speaker 6: like and I just did this show called the Star
- 33:42Speaker 6: Players where they were like, do you still game? And
- 33:43Speaker 6: I was like, well, I still play games, but like
- 33:45Speaker 6: I don't have the time for like really good meati
- 33:49Speaker 6: console gaming. So I'm just I'm inside and your times
- 33:52Speaker 6: games like I'll.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Just I don't think.
- 33:58Speaker 1: I don't think that community wants to about Wordle.
- 34:05Speaker 3: But I really want to go back and play in
- 34:06Speaker 3: my favorites.
- 34:07Speaker 6: Like I really want to go back because there's like
- 34:08Speaker 6: a remaster in the Last of Us and I loved
- 34:10Speaker 6: that game. I played it when it came out, and
- 34:11Speaker 6: then obviously the series was incredible. Daniel loves word all
- 34:15Speaker 6: and so do I.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Daniel, you can Jordan the show.
- 34:23Speaker 3: To participate.
- 34:24Speaker 2: You didn't have to hide.
- 34:26Speaker 1: No, we don't have to hide Dane, and we make
- 34:28Speaker 1: him turn his mic off because his house is loud.
- 34:30Speaker 1: But he did participate. Daniel.
- 34:32Speaker 2: I remember when you said white boys love you.
- 34:38Speaker 3: I'm getting it.
- 34:38Speaker 1: For white boys, Danel blushing ever since Daniel, just so
- 34:45Speaker 1: the audience known, Daniel had his screen off, and then
- 34:47Speaker 1: because he wanted to participate, he changed his screen name
- 34:50Speaker 1: to Daniel Loves Wordle so he could sneak back to
- 34:53Speaker 1: the conversation.
- 34:57Speaker 6: So I like Wordle fine, But I like the other
- 35:00Speaker 6: New York Times games like Connections, Sands Connections. Oh god,
- 35:05Speaker 6: I do be Buddy, be Buddy, every spelly be every
- 35:07Speaker 6: day with my bee Buddy.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I love Aisha. It's actually good danilism here because he's
- 35:12Speaker 1: our resident video game expert, What other games did you
- 35:16Speaker 1: did you really love when you played?
- 35:18Speaker 3: So Halo was the gateway, right, So I played a
- 35:20Speaker 3: lot of Halo. I probably played like five or six
- 35:21Speaker 3: hours hours of Halo and the Halo family, especially like
- 35:24Speaker 3: three in Reach. I was in Reach.
- 35:26Speaker 6: I voiced a character in Reach, and then Gears of
- 35:29Speaker 6: War is also one of my favorite games. And I
- 35:31Speaker 6: also voiced did like voice for the DLC for three
- 35:35Speaker 6: for Gears of War three and then The Last of Us,
- 35:39Speaker 6: which I think is one of the most beautiful video
- 35:40Speaker 6: games ever created. Him like so emotional, so emotional in fact,
- 35:44Speaker 6: so filmic that I had to stop playing for a
- 35:46Speaker 6: while because I Ellie kept dying and I was like
- 35:48Speaker 6: getting emotionally.
- 35:50Speaker 3: I was like, I can't keep this skin alive. I
- 35:51Speaker 3: can't take it anymore.
- 35:54Speaker 6: But then when I watched the show and it was
- 35:55Speaker 6: so beautifully done, I was like, man, I want to
- 35:56Speaker 6: go back and play that game again. So that's like,
- 35:59Speaker 6: that's the first time my list when I get like,
- 36:00Speaker 6: you know, a couple of weeks of downtime, and then
- 36:04Speaker 6: I was actually The Walking Dead. I remember The Walking Dead,
- 36:06Speaker 6: like the tablet version of the game. Did anybody play that?
- 36:09Speaker 3: Yes? I was so much, so good.
- 36:13Speaker 5: Every title like I can't everyone's gonna die.
- 36:15Speaker 6: It's just and you remember, people are like when when
- 36:18Speaker 6: you when you finish that game, you're gonna cry.
- 36:19Speaker 3: It's like, well, I don't cry about ship man. I'm
- 36:22Speaker 3: a rock, I'm the stone.
- 36:23Speaker 6: I'm dead inside.
- 36:25Speaker 3: I was like, oh, did you finish that game? I
- 36:30Speaker 3: was like, Shure, got it.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Now I understand what these shows are about. Got it.
- 36:36Speaker 2: It's not about the zombies and the killing. It's your
- 36:38Speaker 2: connection to the leg Oh my gosh, sitting here like
- 36:43Speaker 2: I watched what the fuck is walking down? It's a
- 36:46Speaker 2: bunch of zombies. No, it's because you love this character
- 36:50Speaker 2: so much.
- 36:51Speaker 6: Those shows are not about the zombies. They're about about
- 36:54Speaker 6: survival of relationship of characters. And all those shows, all
- 36:58Speaker 6: the zombie shows asked the question are we essentially good?
- 37:02Speaker 6: Or are we essentially bad? That is the question behind
- 37:04Speaker 6: every zombie show. If all the rules of society fall away,
- 37:07Speaker 6: would we default to it essentially good nature?
- 37:10Speaker 3: Are humans good?
- 37:11Speaker 6: Or?
- 37:11Speaker 1: Also? What do you think? What's your answer?
- 37:14Speaker 6: You know, I think about this a lot, because look,
- 37:16Speaker 6: if you want to look around at where we aren't
- 37:18Speaker 6: right now on the planet, I do think about it
- 37:19Speaker 6: a lot. I actually think that human beings are essentially good.
- 37:22Speaker 6: And I'll tell you why. As much horrible things as
- 37:26Speaker 6: are happening and have happened in the history of the planet,
- 37:28Speaker 6: and as much disappointing things as are happening. Now you
- 37:32Speaker 6: walk outside, people are walking down the street. People are
- 37:35Speaker 6: picking up the shit behind their dogs. People are putting
- 37:37Speaker 6: on their seat belts, people are queuing at the supermarket,
- 37:40Speaker 6: people are paying their bills, people are taking care of
- 37:42Speaker 6: their children. For the most part, human beings default to
- 37:45Speaker 6: a collective good mode. Now there are outliers, and there
- 37:48Speaker 6: are moments where people don't, but I think about that
- 37:51Speaker 6: a lot. We're all driving our cars in the same direction.
- 37:54Speaker 6: We're all stopping at the stop sign. I mean, we
- 37:56Speaker 6: all say please and thank you. That is almost all
- 37:58Speaker 6: of us here. And if we were essentially bad, the
- 38:01Speaker 6: world would not be working at all. We would all
- 38:03Speaker 6: still be in caves and like banging rocks together and
- 38:06Speaker 6: like murdering our neighbor to take their turnips. So, and
- 38:10Speaker 6: I think that, honestly, to crib from Martin Luther King,
- 38:14Speaker 6: the long arc of social justice does trend towards the good.
- 38:19Speaker 6: We have made a lot of progress. So why which
- 38:21Speaker 6: is why the forces of evil are working so hard
- 38:23Speaker 6: to push us back because they see that they are
- 38:26Speaker 6: And this is I'm speaking in a biblical term.
- 38:27Speaker 3: I'm just like.
- 38:28Speaker 6: Actual evil people are see that there's been all this
- 38:31Speaker 6: progress from people of color, all this progress for women,
- 38:33Speaker 6: all this progress for the downtrodden and unrepresented, and they
- 38:37Speaker 6: don't like that. They liked it when they were on top.
- 38:39Speaker 6: And that's why they're fighting so hard to hold on
- 38:41Speaker 6: to their position of power because they know it's a
- 38:43Speaker 6: losing battle and it's almost do you.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Want to take over the Democratic presidency? And because you're
- 38:51Speaker 1: very good and we're currently we are in.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Dire straits, you know, did you see?
- 38:57Speaker 6: So there was a poll Kamala is essentially neck and neck,
- 39:00Speaker 6: which means that you know, she's got a path.
- 39:02Speaker 3: But they said that the Democrat.
- 39:03Speaker 6: That pulls ten points ahead of Trump is Michelle Obama.
- 39:07Speaker 3: So everybody just to start a writer, letting her, let
- 39:09Speaker 3: her write in camp.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Every time that comes up, Everyone's like, you have no
- 39:15Speaker 1: idea how much that America for America?
- 39:18Speaker 2: She no way in hell.
- 39:20Speaker 3: She knows what it entails, right, she knows exactly.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Don't you feel don't she wants your husband go from
- 39:26Speaker 2: a handsome young man to a handsome old young man
- 39:30Speaker 2: in eight years? Dude, She's like, the fuckt it?
- 39:33Speaker 1: Don't you think? Don't you think Barak would be like
- 39:36Speaker 1: should we?
- 39:37Speaker 6: I guarantee you that they have talked about it. I
- 39:40Speaker 6: mean I can't obviously, I don't know what they've said.
- 39:42Speaker 6: But I when you see something like that and she's
- 39:44Speaker 6: definitively pulling ten points ahead of Trump, like without even
- 39:46Speaker 6: being in the race, it is very seductive. And she
- 39:49Speaker 6: does know what the dabatails, and we get you precedents
- 39:51Speaker 6: for one, obviously, but I also think about, like, you
- 39:54Speaker 6: know what it entails, and you only have to do
- 39:56Speaker 6: it for four years. You can just do it for
- 39:57Speaker 6: four years to get us out of the specific kind
- 39:59Speaker 6: of comment that we're in, Like how much would you
- 40:02Speaker 6: sacrifice to save the world?
- 40:03Speaker 4: Right?
- 40:03Speaker 6: Because that's what it really feels like. It doesn't just
- 40:05Speaker 6: feel like America. It feels like Western democracy and our
- 40:09Speaker 6: allies and freedom is what we're fighting for right now.
- 40:11Speaker 6: And I don't know, I haven't. I think she's a
- 40:14Speaker 6: good person. I hope that she at leans contemplating it.
- 40:17Speaker 3: Seriously.
- 40:18Speaker 6: But I used to talk with my friends a lot
- 40:20Speaker 6: about the presidency about how everybody goes in being like
- 40:22Speaker 6: I'm going to saul Hunger, I'm gonna end war, I'm
- 40:25Speaker 6: gonna save the babies. I'm gonna like, you know, stop
- 40:28Speaker 6: global you know, like chain climate change. And then think
- 40:31Speaker 6: about the White House as like somebody's actual house and
- 40:34Speaker 6: you buy the house and you don't know what's in there,
- 40:35Speaker 6: but it looks real nice and outside you've got big
- 40:37Speaker 6: grounds and a rose garden.
- 40:39Speaker 3: And then you go into the house and it's yours now,
- 40:41Speaker 3: don't belong to the last who belongs to you?
- 40:42Speaker 6: And you open the door to the basement and it's
- 40:44Speaker 6: piled all the way up to the sill with bodies right,
- 40:48Speaker 6: and you just go, oh shit, there's no way I
- 40:50Speaker 6: can clean.
- 40:51Speaker 3: This mess up.
- 40:52Speaker 6: And if I even tell people these bodies are in here,
- 40:54Speaker 6: they're gonna blame them all. Um mean, I'm gonna slam
- 40:55Speaker 6: this door.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I always think about young Barack going into the White
- 40:59Speaker 1: House and like week later he was gray. It was
- 41:01Speaker 1: like it was like they must have told him some shit.
- 41:05Speaker 6: Everything, they got a book, everything you think you know, And.
- 41:08Speaker 1: He lived like ten years in a week black.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Don't crack unless you're the president. Straight up. Let's take
- 41:17Speaker 2: a break.
- 41:18Speaker 1: We'll be right back after these fine words.
- 41:24Speaker 3: That.
- 41:27Speaker 1: All right, let's get on politics. I want to talk
- 41:28Speaker 1: to you about used to host a lot of these
- 41:31Speaker 1: video game what were they like events? Conferences?
- 41:35Speaker 3: Oh, like E three?
- 41:36Speaker 1: Yeah, did you enjoy doing that?
- 41:38Speaker 3: Yeah? It was super fun.
- 41:39Speaker 6: I mean I was one of the only women to
- 41:41Speaker 6: have done it before or since. And they were like
- 41:44Speaker 6: press conference so easily. Was this big gaming convention. It
- 41:46Speaker 6: was in LA and it would know what it was,
- 41:48Speaker 6: you know, it was Comic Con for video games. You
- 41:50Speaker 6: guys have both, you buy the Comic Con, So it
- 41:51Speaker 6: was Comic Con for video games. And I love Comic Con.
- 41:54Speaker 6: So I loved E three. And you get to play
- 41:55Speaker 6: all the new games and there'd be all kinds of
- 41:57Speaker 6: like big reveals and like the early version of all
- 41:59Speaker 6: the VR that's out now you can play all those games,
- 42:02Speaker 6: and then they would just do these big kind of
- 42:03Speaker 6: you know, announcements that they would show gameplay, and I
- 42:06Speaker 6: don't know, I love I mean, I was a really
- 42:08Speaker 6: nerdy kid. I love the nerd community, like I was
- 42:11Speaker 6: in We were all nerds before that was a cool.
- 42:13Speaker 3: Thing to be.
- 42:14Speaker 6: You know, you know, we said you can't call yourself
- 42:16Speaker 6: a nerd if you didn't spend a significant amount of
- 42:18Speaker 6: your childhood playing alone.
- 42:21Speaker 2: But he's right, he's but he's so right.
- 42:24Speaker 6: I was behind a schoolhouse with my boom box and
- 42:27Speaker 6: my feelings, you know what.
- 42:30Speaker 2: But he's right. It's like, but I mean, at least,
- 42:33Speaker 2: at least it's cool to be a nerd. Now, look
- 42:36Speaker 2: at comical. Look how big it is. I was a
- 42:38Speaker 2: nerd back. Look. I remember being in junior high school.
- 42:41Speaker 2: And it's a sign of immaturity too, I guess, because
- 42:44Speaker 2: if my kid was doing it now, I'd be like, dude,
- 42:46Speaker 2: you're in school.
- 42:47Speaker 8: I remember being in junior high school with a fucking
- 42:50Speaker 8: Transformer under my desk, freaking trying to transform it, thinking
- 42:57Speaker 8: this is the this is.
- 42:59Speaker 2: This is the life.
- 43:01Speaker 3: What's going to help me in my in my career.
- 43:03Speaker 2: This is gonna and then and then and then putting
- 43:06Speaker 2: it on the table and looking at my buddies when
- 43:08Speaker 2: it was done, like and then just shaking their heads
- 43:14Speaker 2: like what the I had?
- 43:16Speaker 6: I had a Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong like LCDD
- 43:19Speaker 6: like handheld game that I begged my dad for and
- 43:23Speaker 6: I would.
- 43:23Speaker 3: Just play that all day long.
- 43:25Speaker 6: Play that ship in class, play that ship on the bus,
- 43:27Speaker 6: wake up and be like at the bus turn around
- 43:29Speaker 6: when I missing out.
- 43:30Speaker 3: You know what I mean. I loved it. I loved it.
- 43:34Speaker 2: I mean that's that's I mean. I feel like that's
- 43:37Speaker 2: what a nerd is. I feel like a lot of people.
- 43:39Speaker 2: I'm not I'm gonna be controversial here. I feel like, just.
- 43:42Speaker 3: Because you'll get ready to cut this out of the show,
- 43:46Speaker 3: she's ready, she's different the button.
- 43:49Speaker 2: I feel like, just because you in the cars play,
- 43:51Speaker 2: don't necessarily mean you a nerd.
- 43:55Speaker 3: Just because when the cars played, don't mean you in
- 43:57Speaker 3: the cars?
- 43:58Speaker 1: No, no, no, wait, why is it controversial what you're
- 44:01Speaker 1: saying just because you're.
- 44:02Speaker 6: In He's just saying, like some people are posing, some
- 44:05Speaker 6: people got it. But what's great about that community or
- 44:10Speaker 6: what can be great about it, and it can be
- 44:11Speaker 6: just as gaykeeping as any of the community, is.
- 44:13Speaker 3: That, Like you know, for a lot of the people.
- 44:17Speaker 6: That come there, they don't this is their connection with
- 44:19Speaker 6: the world. Sometimes it's their only connection.
- 44:21Speaker 3: And when we.
- 44:22Speaker 6: Would do comic Con for Archer, we would do a
- 44:24Speaker 6: signing every year, and you know, you people have been
- 44:27Speaker 6: waiting in line and they spend all this money, and
- 44:28Speaker 6: they traveled across the country and I would say, how
- 44:30Speaker 6: is your day, how's your con and they would go,
- 44:32Speaker 6: this is the greatest day of my life.
- 44:34Speaker 3: And to be a part of that.
- 44:36Speaker 6: To have some little tiny aspect of like what I
- 44:39Speaker 6: do and what my crew do, does be a part
- 44:41Speaker 6: of like making someone's stay out. I'm sure you guys
- 44:43Speaker 6: have had that experience with someone's Like you know, I
- 44:45Speaker 6: love your show. This is so insane, but like I
- 44:48Speaker 6: watched your show with my dad when he was dying
- 44:50Speaker 6: in the hospital, Like that was our way to laugh
- 44:52Speaker 6: and to get some cathartis like, you know, we're not
- 44:55Speaker 6: curing cancer.
- 44:56Speaker 3: Well you know what I mean.
- 44:57Speaker 6: And I don't think of it as being as lofty
- 44:59Speaker 6: as anything. You know, it's like saving lives, but it
- 45:02Speaker 6: is a way that people connect and that they come together.
- 45:04Speaker 6: And we're so isolated, increasingly isolated as human beings, and
- 45:08Speaker 6: so you know, to do a show like Archer, to
- 45:10Speaker 6: have a thing like Comic Con or show like Scrubs
- 45:12Speaker 6: where people really connect to it and it makes them
- 45:15Speaker 6: feel connected to the larger world.
- 45:16Speaker 3: I think it's special.
- 45:17Speaker 1: Absolutely I love Dors. I think, yeah, man, I know
- 45:23Speaker 1: Joel's been holding a lot ahead.
- 45:25Speaker 2: You can't go as far as you will go.
- 45:27Speaker 3: Go.
- 45:27Speaker 1: I wish. I feel like you and Joel would be
- 45:29Speaker 1: best friends. But go ahead, we already are.
- 45:32Speaker 3: I feel it.
- 45:32Speaker 4: I feel it if I say BlackGirl Nerds or VG
- 45:34Speaker 4: and do you know what that is?
- 45:35Speaker 5: Do you remember them on Twitter?
- 45:37Speaker 3: Maybe? Yeah?
- 45:38Speaker 6: But I think also like they have like a website
- 45:39Speaker 6: because I feel like they've interviewed me.
- 45:41Speaker 3: A bunch that was us.
- 45:42Speaker 5: So that was my first time in California.
- 45:45Speaker 4: Was it was like the memory of the Toddler, but
- 45:51Speaker 4: that's so great, it's good to see you again.
- 45:53Speaker 3: It was.
- 45:53Speaker 4: We were a large team. I think we maybe show
- 45:56Speaker 4: like three or four times, but it was my first gig.
- 45:57Speaker 4: When I got to l A, I saw a post
- 46:00Speaker 4: on Twitter that was just like, hey, have you any
- 46:03Speaker 4: kind of knowledge about movies and are you prepared to
- 46:05Speaker 4: write about that might just come out of film school.
- 46:07Speaker 5: I was like, I could write an essay, no problem.
- 46:09Speaker 5: So they hired me.
- 46:10Speaker 4: And then because I was in LA, I was getting
- 46:13Speaker 4: all these opportunities to go spaces in an interview and
- 46:15Speaker 4: talk to people.
- 46:16Speaker 5: But when I was trying to explain my parents.
- 46:17Speaker 3: What I was doing.
- 46:19Speaker 4: I was so glad you were out there in the
- 46:20Speaker 4: world's boy, do you be like, Okay, so this is
- 46:22Speaker 4: like three Like she's a black woman in the nerds
- 46:25Speaker 4: space and she's making like money and getting gigs and
- 46:28Speaker 4: I will be able.
- 46:29Speaker 5: To do that eventually too.
- 46:30Speaker 4: And it was so wonderful just to have somebody out
- 46:33Speaker 4: there working, and then on top of that, to see
- 46:36Speaker 4: how you've given back to your like the different fandoms,
- 46:40Speaker 4: Like I really like watching your career because you know,
- 46:43Speaker 4: you mentioned you were like a call in Select, but
- 46:46Speaker 4: I feel like everywhere you go your fans are just like, Okay,
- 46:48Speaker 4: I used to hear we're holding we're holding down for it,
- 46:50Speaker 4: Like what do we need to do to actually he
- 46:52Speaker 4: stays on the show or that the show stays on
- 46:54Speaker 4: the air, like we love it.
- 46:56Speaker 3: So you've just been like.
- 46:57Speaker 1: You do have quite a fan base that seems to me.
- 47:00Speaker 3: The first of all, thank you both of you, and
- 47:02Speaker 3: thank you Joel.
- 47:03Speaker 6: And one thing I will say that I think you
- 47:04Speaker 6: guys can probably really connect with this, like, especially if
- 47:08Speaker 6: you're not a part of like predominant community. You know,
- 47:12Speaker 6: you're not allowed to be unusual. You're not allowed to
- 47:15Speaker 6: be like neurodiverse, you know what I mean. It's like,
- 47:18Speaker 6: you know, there's so people really want to say, this
- 47:20Speaker 6: is how black people act, this is what they like,
- 47:23Speaker 6: this is the food that they eat, these are the
- 47:25Speaker 6: shows that they watch, and if you're anywhere outside of that,
- 47:28Speaker 6: like tiny circle at the center of event diagram.
- 47:31Speaker 3: You feel completely excluded.
- 47:32Speaker 6: So like a lot of these communities and these conversations
- 47:35Speaker 6: for me, have been a way to validate people who
- 47:37Speaker 6: feel like they don't fit.
- 47:38Speaker 3: Like when I was a kid, you know, people are.
- 47:40Speaker 6: Like black people don't skateboard, black people don't listen to
- 47:42Speaker 6: heavy metal, black people don't like punk rock. And I
- 47:44Speaker 6: was like, well watch me skate listen a punk rock
- 47:46Speaker 6: and fucking go to Metallica concert and you can suck
- 47:48Speaker 6: my deck. I because I hate it being told what
- 47:50Speaker 6: I liked, what I was allowed to do, who I
- 47:53Speaker 6: was allowed to be. And I feel like so much
- 47:55Speaker 6: of like the like the blurred, like the whole blurred
- 47:57Speaker 6: community and not ethos is like be who you are
- 48:00Speaker 6: and embrace don't let people gate keep you. And I
- 48:04Speaker 6: think that applies to anyone anywhere, Like just to be
- 48:06Speaker 6: able to live your life and be self actualized in
- 48:09Speaker 6: your own way, you know what I mean? Like for example,
- 48:12Speaker 6: Donald and all of his tiny figurines behind him looking
- 48:15Speaker 6: like do you see what I'm saying?
- 48:17Speaker 2: Like Yo? For my favorite blurd Well, we started the
- 48:22Speaker 2: word blurred bro on Scrubs. That's that came from us, bro,
- 48:25Speaker 2: straight up.
- 48:25Speaker 3: And I don't know that's true, but I'm going to
- 48:27Speaker 3: give it to you right now.
- 48:28Speaker 2: I put it one hundred. It is because because Zach
- 48:31Speaker 2: would always be like he would when we would do scenes,
- 48:34Speaker 2: it would be like blacks and or and stuff like that,
- 48:38Speaker 2: and blurred was one of the things. He's a blurred
- 48:40Speaker 2: and then we create Listen, people might have been saying
- 48:43Speaker 2: it before that, but I promise you.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Just give it to him.
- 48:47Speaker 3: I gave it to him.
- 48:47Speaker 6: I mean people probably were saying it before that because
- 48:49Speaker 6: I'm but I'm just so anyway, because I want you
- 48:52Speaker 6: to win Aisha.
- 48:53Speaker 2: How old are you?
- 48:54Speaker 3: She can't ask to leap I'm fifty three.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Oh my god, I.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Would never have bo. I was trying to trump yours
- 49:08Speaker 2: just now and I couldn't.
- 49:11Speaker 3: You can google it. You can google it, so it's
- 49:14Speaker 3: not like it's a secret.
- 49:15Speaker 1: Are you married. Just uh no, And are you dating?
- 49:21Speaker 3: I was married? No, I'm just I'm just hoarding my money.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Okay, are you over it? Are you just the dating scene?
- 49:30Speaker 3: I I have no interest in that.
- 49:31Speaker 6: I would I literally could not even imagine going on
- 49:35Speaker 6: a dating app. Like I have friends that are on
- 49:37Speaker 6: those apps right now, and I'm like, if you're on
- 49:39Speaker 6: the Apple, I'm just now I'm going to be controversial
- 49:41Speaker 6: to also get riddy if you were on an app
- 49:44Speaker 6: to catch some dick, God bless you go.
- 49:46Speaker 3: That's what those apps are for.
- 49:48Speaker 6: Catch as much d as you possibly can't both hands,
- 49:50Speaker 6: mouth open, catch that d you're trying to get.
- 49:53Speaker 3: In a relationship. That is not the place. It's just
- 49:55Speaker 3: not the place.
- 49:56Speaker 6: Nobody on there is series about anything but getting laid, and.
- 49:59Speaker 1: I I think the women as well. Wait yes dick, yeah,
- 50:06Speaker 1: okay catching.
- 50:08Speaker 6: Dick No no, no, no, no, no, absolutely not because
- 50:12Speaker 6: there's just nobody on there is serious and there, and
- 50:15Speaker 6: they're so fit, like like finicky and.
- 50:18Speaker 3: Fickle and horrible and exploited hive.
- 50:20Speaker 6: You can't trust anybody like remember when Ben Affleck was
- 50:24Speaker 6: on Remember when Ben Affleck was on Riah and then
- 50:26Speaker 6: that he matched with that girl and she didn't think
- 50:29Speaker 6: he was real, so she swiped him out and then
- 50:32Speaker 6: he went on and he told her, heyte it's really me,
- 50:34Speaker 6: and she.
- 50:34Speaker 3: Just putsh it on the internet. That's not none of
- 50:36Speaker 3: those things.
- 50:37Speaker 6: Riya's supposed to be like a private like safe space,
- 50:40Speaker 6: and she blew him up.
- 50:41Speaker 3: So there's no no place is safe.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Absolutely are you You don't? You don't if someone sets
- 50:46Speaker 1: you up, you wouldn't go on a date.
- 50:48Speaker 3: You got to set me up with, like Jeremy Renner
- 50:50Speaker 3: or something like that. Otherwise, bring your guns and just
- 50:58Speaker 3: move against me.
- 51:00Speaker 2: She wants to avenger.
- 51:01Speaker 1: I get it.
- 51:02Speaker 3: Also, take anybody from the DC universe.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Okay, she doesn't, she does not. She's not prejudiced against
- 51:10Speaker 1: the DC universe.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Actually, the question what's sexier d C or Marvel what
- 51:20Speaker 2: sex is unfair? This is really an is, isn't it.
- 51:25Speaker 3: Listen. I grew up. I grew up on these comics.
- 51:27Speaker 3: I collected DC comics.
- 51:28Speaker 6: I am a DC girl, and I honestly am also
- 51:31Speaker 6: a Snyder stand So we can get into that if
- 51:33Speaker 6: you want to.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Oh wow, I'm not going to get into it because
- 51:35Speaker 2: I don't want the hate mail. But okay, I have a.
- 51:38Speaker 6: Whole reddit where I argued with someone for like eight
- 51:41Speaker 6: pages over Batman versus Superman and why was such a
- 51:43Speaker 6: great film?
- 51:44Speaker 1: So I get it, you're a great guess.
- 51:50Speaker 6: Here's what I will say. Marvel is funnier, d C
- 51:54Speaker 6: is sexier. But the problem is, like you want to
- 51:56Speaker 6: bone d C, but you probably.
- 51:57Speaker 3: Want to marry Marvel, do you know what I mean?
- 51:59Speaker 6: Because like Mom's gonna make you laugh, and you just
- 52:01Speaker 6: can't bone all day long.
- 52:02Speaker 3: Somebody has to take out the trash, you know. So
- 52:05Speaker 3: it's like if.
- 52:06Speaker 6: It was Mary Kill, it's like fu DC, Mary Adventures kill.
- 52:13Speaker 1: If you're going to catch d you wanted from d C?
- 52:16Speaker 1: Is what you're saying, Yes, well done, thank you.
- 52:19Speaker 3: Let's go out here and catch this d C.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Yeah, you're gonna go catch some d.
- 52:24Speaker 3: What comic book are whose comic books are we killing?
- 52:28Speaker 2: But you can't, I mean, anybody who could get a
- 52:30Speaker 2: comic book out period?
- 52:32Speaker 3: Nobody what you said, Joel, who are killing? On the break.
- 52:40Speaker 2: About to be like, we're gonna cut that part where
- 52:42Speaker 2: I said.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it's rare. It's rare that Joel has to cut something.
- 52:47Speaker 1: She said, that's what's great.
- 52:50Speaker 3: Yes, I guess you texted my nerd food just now
- 52:53Speaker 3: and I feel like I came.
- 52:55Speaker 1: Lastly, we should promote your your show, right because you
- 52:58Speaker 1: have a show, have a show Criminal Minds.
- 53:01Speaker 6: I have a show and I'm also promoting my new
- 53:03Speaker 6: cocktail lines. Talk about Oh yeah, So I'll talk about
- 53:08Speaker 6: the cocktail line first. So I'm a big cocktail fan.
- 53:11Speaker 6: I love cocktails, and I launched just two months ago.
- 53:14Speaker 6: It's two months old. She's a baby, a brand new
- 53:17Speaker 6: line of organic ready to drink cocktails. They're super premium.
- 53:21Speaker 6: So the first one is a margarita. It's clarified. It
- 53:23Speaker 6: only has three ingredients, one hundred percent blue ever, Agave
- 53:27Speaker 6: Blanco Tequila organic organic, triple sec on organic line.
- 53:31Speaker 3: It is the greatest gay margarita ever.
- 53:34Speaker 6: It's called Losophy, like philosophy and.
- 53:40Speaker 3: Just open the bottle, pour it in a glass, put
- 53:42Speaker 3: it in your.
- 53:42Speaker 1: Face, and do you do a Moscow mule?
- 53:45Speaker 6: Not yet, We're just doing a margarita. Margarite is the
- 53:47Speaker 6: number one cocktail in the world.
- 53:49Speaker 2: It is the most cocktail.
- 53:50Speaker 6: Can fine Philosophy dot com, l O S O p
- 53:54Speaker 6: h E dot com or come to my socials at
- 53:56Speaker 6: Asha Tyler. You can get it shipped to your house,
- 53:58Speaker 6: so no matter where you are in the US dates
- 54:00Speaker 6: we will mail you philosophy.
- 54:02Speaker 3: All right.
- 54:05Speaker 2: I know it's a long game.
- 54:06Speaker 3: It was a long game.
- 54:08Speaker 6: It took us about two or three years to come
- 54:10Speaker 6: up with this formula. If you go to my Instagram,
- 54:13Speaker 6: you will see that I tasted every single ready to
- 54:15Speaker 6: drink margerite on the market, which was a day that
- 54:17Speaker 6: should live in infamy. And then we hired we hired
- 54:22Speaker 6: three different citrus PhDs to help us develop this product.
- 54:25Speaker 1: Yeah, Donald and I would were curious back in the
- 54:27Speaker 1: day about making something, and someone told us like, unless
- 54:31Speaker 1: you're just going to slap your label on something, it
- 54:33Speaker 1: is long, and it's expensive, and it's expensive.
- 54:36Speaker 3: Yeah, but I cared about it.
- 54:37Speaker 6: I mean, this is something I love so and I
- 54:40Speaker 6: felt like it was something that the market needed. Again,
- 54:42Speaker 6: I'm not curing cancer here, but if you've ever had
- 54:45Speaker 6: a ready to do margarita, they look like anti freeze
- 54:47Speaker 6: and they taste about the same, and most of them
- 54:50Speaker 6: don't even have to quila in them at all. They
- 54:51Speaker 6: have like malt liquor or neutral grain spirit and then
- 54:55Speaker 6: they add a little bit of tequila flavoring, sprinkle it in.
- 54:58Speaker 1: And where do you fall on the price point? Are
- 54:59Speaker 1: you more of a high end?
- 55:01Speaker 6: We are a premium We're we're a premium uh product.
- 55:04Speaker 6: The bottle's forty dollars, but there are twelve cocktails in there.
- 55:07Speaker 1: So, oh it's a bottle you don't buy like one.
- 55:09Speaker 3: Can't big ass bottle like this.
- 55:11Speaker 6: Oh wow, So because it's so delicious, you will drink
- 55:14Speaker 6: a bottle in a setting.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Donald Donald, because he gets better on ice.
- 55:19Speaker 2: Yo, don't freaking get drunk, and yeah.
- 55:21Speaker 6: Don't drink it's it's well, it's not like a six percent,
- 55:24Speaker 6: it's not like a beer. It's it's a real margarita
- 55:26Speaker 6: with ice. Enjoy responsibly. People listen to your show are adults,
- 55:30Speaker 6: I hope.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, stories we occasionally even though the show is
- 55:36Speaker 1: mostly are This has been a pretty tame episode.
- 55:39Speaker 3: It was good. I thought I was being naughty.
- 55:41Speaker 1: No, No, we've had We've had the Donald has made
- 55:44Speaker 1: us talk about dirty ship and are.
- 55:47Speaker 3: Blaming it all on you. Donald.
- 55:49Speaker 2: No, because we listen having sex therapists.
- 55:53Speaker 1: Oh that's the best. We had a sex therapist song.
- 55:55Speaker 2: Genus doctor.
- 55:57Speaker 1: You should come back for the sex therapist and you
- 55:59Speaker 1: probably have good questions for her. She's amazing.
- 56:02Speaker 3: She was a penis doctor.
- 56:05Speaker 1: And she wrote these guides everything you need to know
- 56:07Speaker 1: about the vagina.
- 56:10Speaker 3: And then she really specific title.
- 56:13Speaker 1: Well, no, there were some guides. There was penis, there
- 56:15Speaker 1: was vagina, there's venus.
- 56:19Speaker 3: I mean you can't.
- 56:20Speaker 6: You can't pick them and be like, what if it's
- 56:21Speaker 6: about it?
- 56:23Speaker 3: I'm not what's the subtext of this title? What will
- 56:28Speaker 3: I learn if I know?
- 56:29Speaker 1: We sold a lot of those guides for that woman,
- 56:31Speaker 1: because people came up to me on the street, like
- 56:33Speaker 1: I bought anus. I bought an.
- 56:38Speaker 3: I cannot buy on the street.
- 56:45Speaker 6: Doctor anus transactions online or in an ad.
- 56:48Speaker 1: Please all right, Comeel is cutting this, Joel doesn't. That's
- 56:56Speaker 1: nice to show, Yeah, Joel. Joel allows us to talk
- 57:00Speaker 1: about sex, about controversial.
- 57:02Speaker 6: Typot controversial topic is when I was whether I was
- 57:06Speaker 6: going to fuck the DC universe or not.
- 57:07Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I'll keep that. That was good stuff.
- 57:09Speaker 3: We don't want to anger. We don't want to anger.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Redit No, they're gonna love that. I should tell us
- 57:14Speaker 1: about Criminal Minds because this show has been going on
- 57:17Speaker 1: a long time. But this is like a spin off
- 57:19Speaker 1: or what.
- 57:19Speaker 6: No, No, it's a continuation essentially, So we work for
- 57:22Speaker 6: fifteen seasons on CBS, and.
- 57:24Speaker 2: Then how many decisions did you do?
- 57:27Speaker 3: I did five?
- 57:28Speaker 6: So I joined in season eleven and did eleven through fifteen,
- 57:31Speaker 6: and then the show ended there.
- 57:33Speaker 3: And then I think almost immediately.
- 57:35Speaker 6: They were like, wait, wait a minute, and so like
- 57:37Speaker 6: I think the show went off the air like an
- 57:38Speaker 6: April of twenty twenty, and then in September of twenty twenty,
- 57:42Speaker 6: we were talking about bringing it back. So it moved
- 57:45Speaker 6: to Paramount Plus and go ahead.
- 57:47Speaker 3: You have a question.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Why you don't have to raise your hand, it's your
- 57:50Speaker 1: interrupt you.
- 57:50Speaker 2: I don't want to I interrupt you everybody so much,
- 57:53Speaker 2: you know, I don't want to do that. Anyway.
- 57:56Speaker 3: He's been listening to the comments.
- 57:58Speaker 2: Well are there comments?
- 58:03Speaker 1: Don't comments?
- 58:07Speaker 2: Did get Did it get canceled because of COVID? Because
- 58:10Speaker 2: it wasn't a bad show, you know what I mean?
- 58:11Speaker 2: It was it was still doing well. You know, I
- 58:15Speaker 2: know television ratings aren't what they used.
- 58:17Speaker 6: To be, but you know, I mean, if I had
- 58:19Speaker 6: to guess, and you know, I don't know what was
- 58:22Speaker 6: if I had to guess, you know, it was fifteen
- 58:24Speaker 6: years of a show, all those primetime procedurals, you know,
- 58:28Speaker 6: we're on the part of the global downward trend of
- 58:30Speaker 6: all primetime television.
- 58:32Speaker 3: And I think they were like, the.
- 58:33Speaker 6: Show's better for fifteen years, Let's see if we can
- 58:34Speaker 6: try something new, And then I think they were like,
- 58:36Speaker 6: wait a minute, that's a massive global hit.
- 58:37Speaker 3: That was That probably wasn't the best move.
- 58:40Speaker 6: I mean, during COVID it was the most streamed show,
- 58:43Speaker 6: like you know, before this is phenomenon, we were the
- 58:44Speaker 6: most streamed show like globally for like all the twenty twenty.
- 58:48Speaker 6: So I just think they saw those numbers specifically and
- 58:50Speaker 6: we're like, oh my god, maybe we shouldn't have let
- 58:53Speaker 6: that show go. It was you know what I mean,
- 58:55Speaker 6: we weren't We weren't looking at all the metrics when
- 58:57Speaker 6: we decided to let it go. You shoot it in
- 58:59Speaker 6: We shooting a yeah, and we're just about to start
- 59:02Speaker 6: shooting Season three of Criminal Minds Evolution, which was season
- 59:06Speaker 6: eighteen of the show, and honestly, this last season, season
- 59:09Speaker 6: seventeen was the best season of that show period.
- 59:12Speaker 1: If you need two corpses, Donald and I would love
- 59:15Speaker 1: to come.
- 59:15Speaker 3: You're too sexy to be corpses.
- 59:17Speaker 1: I would love to be a corpse.
- 59:18Speaker 2: I'm not sexy. I'm not sexy enough to be a corpse. Hey,
- 59:23Speaker 2: I got to my shirt off. Listen, I got to
- 59:25Speaker 2: take my shirt off on television. I don't want to
- 59:27Speaker 2: do that.
- 59:27Speaker 1: Well, we can see that you drown, you drown and
- 59:29Speaker 1: you bloated by the water.
- 59:34Speaker 2: I like that, like the savage. I like that.
- 59:38Speaker 1: I'm volunteering. Please tell your please tell your showrunner that
- 59:41Speaker 1: Donald and I would love to be corpses.
- 59:43Speaker 3: What if you guys could be like twin corpses?
- 59:45Speaker 1: Or bet we just want to find us in the dirt.
- 59:48Speaker 6: Yeah, us in the dirt in a class that's exactly.
- 59:56Speaker 3: No.
- 59:56Speaker 2: No, no, I thought, face down and the dirt holding hands
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: is better, but.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: Okay, beautiful.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Sure, or I would think just spooning, like like we
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: knew the apocalypse was coming, so we drank arsenic.
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: One hand on the other's face tenderly.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: All right, you should be kept long enough. Thank you.

- 1:01:19Speaker 2: Wu Tang forever, Wu Tang forever.
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: How have you guys considered mixing everything into some kind
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: of like hip hop supercut.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: We need to do that, Daniel, why don't you make
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: a big bop? It'll be amazing if you did that.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: What she just said and used all our sounds and
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: then it became like the bop of the summer. It
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: was bigger than they not like us. Like us.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: It's nothing, it's ever going to be bigger than you
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: could beat the margaritas. On one margarita, I'm a cact
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: d you you could probably beat you know.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: I wanted to say. There was a video I saw.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: I don't know if for the Olympics or something, but
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: they're playing they like Us, and Steph Curry says to Lebron, oh,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: I'm so sick of this song, and Lebron goes, what
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: I love it? That was just like it was like
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: caught on a mic, and Lebron said something like, there
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: are other songs, so I always got to play this song.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: That song is when we're old.
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: When we are old, that is going to be played
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: in like fine dining restaurants, like right now, if you
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: go to like a white tablecop restaurant, all they plays
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: Biggie like I'm like it speaking and tu fuck.
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: In this micheline story right.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: Us for the rest of it, like an instrumental of
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: the listening.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: I knew it was a problem when they start showing
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: these little kids at the at their little dance.
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: Place, all the little girls, which all the.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Little girls, and then now and probably ain't my.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: Crazy.
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: Now I have to go, my gosh.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: I know we have to go, but I just have
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: to say this.
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: I was taking my mom to like an art exhibit
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: and with a buddy of mine, and so in the car,
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: my buddy just played the whole beef for my mom.
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: So my mom she's she's almost eighty, she likes jazz,
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: she's very hip.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: She mom got a tattoo sleeve. So mom is cool,
- 1:03:15Speaker 6: but like she's not a hip hop fan. And he played,
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: he played the whole beef like in succession, and my
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: mom goes, well, Kendrick Lamar obviously one day, clearly.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: So there you have a kid. Rick Mama says he
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: won the beef.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: I need I need someone to walk me through it
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: one day.
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: It's very enjoyable, and the insults are just almost as
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: savage as the stuff politicians work.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: On this car, any politician, it's a savage as that.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: How about that?
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: That's what just savage? Is that?
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: All right? Check out Plosophy and Criminal Minds. And I
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: should thank you. You're such a great guest.
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: Oh, it was such a pleasure, so nice to see
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: a little face.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: What a great guest. Holy, she's so funny. She touched
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: on so many topics. Joelle, I think that may be
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: one of your favorite guests.
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: I used to ty, it is definitely an icon, Like
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: she had my job before I had my job, and
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: then she just paved away for a lot of us
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: to be.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: I was about to say, she's the original man, that's
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: the that's the blueprint, that's the blueprint, sincerely, bro, when
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: nobody else was doing it. It was her first. She
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: was the first one too.
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: She had a lot of slaphomore, she had to deal
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: with a lot.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: Of I feel like I remember her getting in a
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: lot of Twitter beefs because you know, people didn't like
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: a black woman covering video games, right Joell.
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: Wasn't that a thing exactly, and.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: They were calling her opposer and she was like, what,
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: I've been playing video games since I was a little kid,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: Like I remember that.
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: Yeah, she's the og, Like for real, I don't think
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: there's anybody. I can't name anybody before her, but maybe
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: because they didn't get as famous as I think, not
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: like she had.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: Yeah, that was funny. The second she realized we were
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: like an R rated podcast, she started loosening up. I
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: kind of want to do another interview with her, knowing
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: that she can say whatever, because all of a sudden,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: you talk about catch and D and I was like, okay,
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: let's go.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: Well, she's our cup of tea, you know what I mean.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: She said something really very she said something interesting. You
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: know what I mean, because this is how a lot
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: of us learned how to act when we didn't take classes,
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: and we weren't you know what I mean, television and studying,
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Her Her craft was I'm
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: gonna go be funny on stage, and then after being
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: funny on stage, I'm going to go and watch what
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: I think is well, I'm going to watch something that's
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: going to put me to sleep, that entertains me. And
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: in doing so, she was able to you know, I'm
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: not gonna say mimic, but she was able to say,
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: you know, I could tell one of those jokes. I
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: know how to tell those jokes, and that's something that
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: a lot of actors study. Look, I posted this shit
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: on Instagram. I know it sounds really douchey for me
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: to say that shit, but Brendan Fraser talks about, you know,
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: he gives advice to actors and what it takes to
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: be an actor, and right now, it's really really really
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: really really really hard to be an actor, you know
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: what I mean. And I just think if you just
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: listen to what he says, it's it's it's beautiful, and
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: it's also uh, it's also very true.
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: All right, well, what do you got going on this weekend?
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: You're going to a basketball tournament in Anaheim? I am okay,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: Well have fun. I'll just be sitting in my house
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: catching D's.
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: You got that.
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: Lovely gardens at Berry's the other name.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: All right, we love you guys. I'm not sure we
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: made about a bunch.
- 1:06:52Speaker 7: Of he's a story. Oh so, gander around you here, up,
- 1:07:04Speaker 7: gadder around you here, up, spec we.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: Watch your miz a
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: M hm
