- 0:22SPEAKER_02: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department Podcast.
- 0:27SPEAKER_02: I am Sean Boyle, and joining me today, it's a very special guest.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: One of my closest friends is Mr.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: Jeremy Good making his return to the program.
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: Jeremy, how are you?
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Doing well, Sean.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: What's up, Tortured fans?
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Uh, great to be back.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Great lineup today.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: I'm excited.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, I'm excited to jump into it.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: I'm excited to do it with you, Jeremy.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: And the listeners, I'm sure, are excited to have you back in their ears.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: We have a loaded agenda as you referenced.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: We're going to talk some college ball.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: We're going to dive into NFL opening weekend.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: And then we've got a little tennis talk with our tennis expert to round out the show.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: So a lot to get to, not a lot of time to do it, Jeremy.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: Let's start in the college world.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: The big story of the weekend.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: Texas comes from behind to beat Ohio State in Austin.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: It was one of those situations where early on in this game, the crowd looked unbelievable.
- 1:17SPEAKER_02: Truly, it's what makes college sports great.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: You see the atmosphere, everybody's up for it in the burnt orange.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: And then, Jeremy, immediately it was this feeling of no, they've done it again.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: Texas is Texas still.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: They're not back.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: But the tide completely changed in the fourth quarter.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: They come from behind, led by Arch, and some questionable Ohio State decisions to get the victory.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: My question for you is, are they actually back this time?
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: Or is this just another false start?
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna cop out on an answer, Sean, because I'm very good at that.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: But I'll give you, I'll give you, I'll give you a full enough answer.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Are they back in terms of making the playoffs and making a run in the playoffs?
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Yes, sure.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Are they back in terms of winning the championship?
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Too early to tell.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: That's just Texas for you.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Uh little they've fallen a little too short recently for me to truly, truly buy in as a champion, but they have a lot of stuff going with them right now.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Arch, a few years under his spelling college, he looks good.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: I've always thought uh Sarkeesian is a pretty solid coach as well.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Big time win, of course.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Doesn't matter how you do it against a team like Ohio State.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: It should be noted that they were down 20 for a lot of the game.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Not a big deal ultimately.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: If you win, doesn't matter.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: I think that should be mentioned a little bit.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, I'll I'm leaning towards Texas's back and I'm buying in.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: If if I could pick to buy in more than not, I'll buy in more with them.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: So sure, let's roll with it.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I talked to Jake about this on our college football preview show, and he had mentioned Notre Dame and Texas were the two programs that he was really watching.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: Can they get to that next step?
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: They've been playoff caliber teams, but they haven't been national title caliber teams, and that still remains to be seen if they are, but this has to be encouraging, especially because of the start, how we talked about it was a disaster.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: Everything seemed like it was happening again.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: They showed some resilience, they get the job done, a signature win for them.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: On the flip side, Ohio State, it's a really tough game.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: You have to credit them for scheduling it and going out of conference early in the season and playing this sort of game.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: They really didn't look convincing in putting this one away.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: And Julian Sain in particular, his resume against some of these elite teams, it doesn't stack up to his resume against the rest of his schedule.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: Are you concerned at all about the Buckeyes?
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: A little bit because you never want to have a loss early on before conference play.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Obviously, it's a it's a worthy opponent in Texas, so you don't really fault them in that.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: You kind of fault them the way they lost, being up 20 late in the game, and then completely blowing it.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: So they've always been a program that can bounce back, they've had so much success, even though Ryan Day is kind of iffy in some ways.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: He has won a championship and he has won at a really high level at Ohio State.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: So it's not great for them going forward.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: They have a tough schedule in some ways as of right now with Oregon, although that loss, I don't know.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: But I still I still like Oregon, I think, going forward.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Uh, they have Indiana, USC is 12th, I think.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: We'll see how that lasts.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: So it's an interesting schedule.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: They have a ranked Iowa team in a few weeks, too, I think.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: It's tougher than I think it should be for them going forward, especially where how they played the first uh 45 minutes of the game.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: But I think that they can still weather the storm and be okay and make the playoffs and make a run in the playoffs, assuming they adjust to the game on Saturday.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm I'm with you.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: I I don't think I'm too worried about them.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: I do think, like you kind of alluded to, playing this game and losing this game, while it shouldn't punish them in any way, it should be a reward, a feather in the cap for Ohio State.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: It's unfortunately kind of decreases their margin for error.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: Because say what you want, an extra loss on their resume ultimately will or could mean something down the road.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: It it likely shouldn't be held against them, it shouldn't be that big of a blemish going to arguably the best team in the sport and losing by a point.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: Honestly, yeah, that that should not count against you.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: But the fact of the matter is, if they were to lose three Big Ten games and that loss turns into their fourth, that could keep them from the playoff.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: I don't foresee something like that happening, but it could.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: You never know.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: There could be injuries, there could be things they deal with, and they could have some slip-ups that we don't predict.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: So that would be the only situation where I would see this as a really negative result for Ohio State.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: It's more so, like we mentioned, the manner in which they lost.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: I have a question, Jared.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: Would you, if you were Ryan Day, would you have let Texas score immediately?
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: I know it's easy to say in hindsight, but their defense have been getting fried the whole fourth quarter.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: Texas comes down with around two minutes left.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: They're on the one-yard line, and they are able to bleed a couple of valuable seconds off of this game clock on a few failed attempts to get in the end zone.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: Ultimately, it costs Ohio State and they don't get a chance to go down and return the favor.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: Would you have let Texas in the end zone?
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: I would have.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: You tortured fans, if you know me, time is a big component in sports, especially football.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: You are playing the clock in more ways than one for a lot of the time for much of the game, too, not just your opponent.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: I don't blame them necessarily for not doing in this situation, I guess.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: I would have let them score to get more time on the other end.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: It's not the biggest deal, maybe, in this situation, but I personally would have highest hindsight's obviously 2020.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: It's not the worst example of this, but I personally would have, Sean.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm with you.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: It's hard to say because obviously it's easy for fans to sit here and say, oh, let them score, let them score.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: The competitor in you is not just like, oh yeah, Olay, let's call the not trying defensive play where we get them in the end zone.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: So it's a weird situation.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: It's one that's easy to revisit in hindsight.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: A tough one for Ohio State, a choke job for sure, but I think they'll be just fine.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: It just depends on what their ceiling is.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: I'm more interested to see what Texas's ceiling is.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: I think that was a really good and much needed win for Sark, even if he once again handled it like an absolute loser.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: His post-game interview with Holly Rowe.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: He couldn't even give her the time of day.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: We mentioned time is of the essence, Jeremy.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: Sark must be the most important man in the world because he doesn't have time for anybody other than Sark.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: This should have been his time to shine.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: He should have been so excited.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sure.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Holly, I'll do a I'll do a thing.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: We just we just won the biggest game.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: We just won the biggest game in my time at Texas.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Maybe my time at head coaching as a whole.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Like he he should have been paid, like what is it for him?
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: But yeah, that was other, I guess, something else for him going on.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: Now I I will say there I'm not the biggest fan of these interviews, Jar.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: I feel like we very rarely get anything of value from them, whether it's the halftime interview with a coach or the immediately after an emotional victory interview.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: It's rare that we do get something for them, but it is part of the job.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: So it's just something you have to do.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: And the fact that he consistently does stuff like this, just these little glimpses into how he is as a person, they really rub me the wrong way and they make Texas a little bit more unlikable.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: But I think he'll be just fine with people hating him as long as he wins.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: I agree with you on that, Sean.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: I think they're pretty dumb too, those uh interviews.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: I'll even add, too, a little example last or on Sunday when the Eagles won, Cooper DeGene kind of had a bad game, and someone, a reporter asked him about it, and he said, Yeah, it just comes down to me playing better.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: And I don't even blame him for answering that way.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: It's not it's not a great answer, but I don't blame him.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: It's just like it's just what what do you want these like coaches and athletes to say in these situations?
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Win, lose, etc.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Like it doesn't make me feel better regardless.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: So I'm with you, but I guess uh the contractually they're obligated, people expect it.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: So until something changes in terms of that, just just stay stay there and talk for 30 seconds, 40 seconds.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's not we're not asking for a ton of your time, even if what you give us is very vanilla, just don't be rude, essentially, is the main mission, and he failed it.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: So we'll move on to another coach, Jeremy, who certainly rubs people the wrong way.
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: The villain of the sport is now the talk of this week as we head into week three of the college football season.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: Lane Kiffin returns to Ole Miss.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: The job he left in an absolute frenzy at the end of last season, left them before the playoff began to take the LSU job.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: Now he's returning.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: I'm expecting the most hostile of environments.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: I think back to Chris Beard after he left Texas Tech to take the Texas job, their arch rival.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: I think it's going to be similar to that.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: I don't know what the answer to this is, Jared, but I have to ask you, what do you think the scene will be like?
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: And then what is acceptable in terms of behavior for fans?
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: Because you have to be able to give it to the old coach a little bit, but there's certainly a line, and I don't know exactly what that is.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: It'll be hostile, it'll be a fun environment in terms of competition, two teams ranked in the top 10.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: This homecoming the way, and just lane two as a personality, everywhere he's been, every stop he's been as a head coach, as an offensive coordinator.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: He's always brought that flair with him, and that's probably being very generous in that word.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm so I'm new, I'm new to college football.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: I got into it in college with Temple, and then onwards with grad school too.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: So I'm not big into the history.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: Like I just I always loved the sport, but never had a team.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: I think some of these people take it too far, Sean.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: And I'm a competitive person.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: I love the Philadelphia sports teams.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: We have rivals, I get it.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: These teams also, a lot of these state schools, they don't have pro teams.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: So I get that this is their life.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: But you have certain examples that I think uh it's just too much.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know if you saw the Kansas-Missouri uh video where Kansas accused like Missouri of being pro-slavery back in the 19th century.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: And it's like, I don't know, like, that's a lot.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: It's a lot, it's a lot for sure, it's a lot for sure.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: And then and then, you know, on my side too, when uh what was his name?
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Uh Harvey something, an Alabama fan, poisoned the Auburn trees in Toomer's Corner.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Like, that's too far.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: That's and I'm not saying that's gonna happen Saturday, but it people just get so like passion.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: It's like it's a little much, but like I'm excited, it'll be interesting to see uh this uh homecoming uh in some ways.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: So just keep it keep it civil.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Don't be don't be too into it either.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: Like, there's life there's life other than football, believe it or not.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: And this is someone who loves the sport, but like chill out a little.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you have to strike the balance, I think.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: There's things that are clearly in poor taste and past the line where we don't want to encourage that by any means.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: Instead of poisoning a tree, maybe we throw some TP on it, you know?
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: Something that's easily restored, maybe not a forever poison.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: The Kansas-Missouri game, the border war, the lead up to that was incredible.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: The game itself was not incredible, but it it's like you said, is a fine line because rivalries are what makes this sport so great, and the passion of the fan base is so unique in college athletics in America.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: You see it a little bit in Philly.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: You're kind of one who's grown up in the Philadelphia atmosphere where that does have some similarities to college, and honestly, a bit glasshouse of you to point at other fan bases is maybe potentially going too far because Philly is known to do just that from time to time.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: But that's part of what makes sports so special, if you can do it right and find the balance.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: So I encourage some fan behavior as long as it's pointed at Lane Kiffin, the football coach, not Lane Kiffin and his family or anything of violent conduct or anything like that.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: So I'm hoping we see some incredible scenes, a hostile environment that's just really difficult to play in and no extracurriculars.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: I think that's where we need to strike the balance.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: It's interesting too, because Mississippi, they've had a nice football coach culture over the last few decades.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: Is it good enough though to be this upset with a coach?
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: Maybe, maybe, but I don't know if they have the they have the history to really get into it ultimately.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: But again, like I get, you know, he leaves, but like rally around your guy Pete Golding.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a little bit of how he left, I think, but you're right, he did give them a lot of success that they hadn't seen before.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: So it's a it's a weird one.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: I'm excited to watch it.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: I think it could potentially be the game of the season just in terms of environment and how up for it those people will be.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: I think we're spoiled in college sports, though, because each week there's always one of these.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: We saw it last week with Ohio State, Texas.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: That burn orange in Austin and a crowded stadium.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: That's really cool.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: We get LSU Ole Miss this weekend, and in a few weeks, there's gonna be another marquee game between two fan bases that hate each other.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: So that's what makes college sports great.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: I'm excited about it this weekend, Jared.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: Any other games you want to talk about this weekend that you're maybe keeping an eye on?
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: I'm boring.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: I'll keep it boring.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: We have a few ranked games with uh Houston traveling the Texas Tech on a Friday night, which is, I guess, in some ways interesting.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Battle of two Texas teams, and what do we also have?
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: We have Louisville and hosting SMU, a little ACC action.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: I can't promise it'll be awesome, but at least you have two games, week three of ranked teams, which you don't always not not even including uh Ole Miss LSU, of course, which is kind of nice.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: I week three can kind of get a little slow, week four, two, uh, as you know, the honeymoon phase of the new season kind of exits.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: So that'll be kind of nice that you have a little bit of really solid teams going at each other uh on otherwise a slower week, I think, in some ways.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think a couple ranked-on-ranked matchups are always good to keep an eye on.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: I have two that I think are interesting.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: If you're an SEC fan, which I know you are, Jeremy, we have South Carolina and Mississippi State.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: Demario Taylor, Camario Taylor.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: Camario Taylor, he is unbelievable.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: This guy, he torched the Golden Gophers last week.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: I was on Minnesota and dropped the mics.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: That one was over before it started.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: About two minutes in, I realized I made a grave, grave mistake.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: They got absolutely boat raced.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Camario Taylor is the real deal.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: I'm excited to see how they do against Lenora Sellers in South Carolina.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: It's kind of one of those things where both teams are getting some under-the-radar attention in the SEC.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: We'll see who's for real between them after this week.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: And then in the similar case, we have two new head coaches going head-to-head in Florida versus Auburn.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: I'm excited for this one.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: It is John Sumerall, it's Alex Golesh.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: I don't know what to expect necessarily.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: I don't think either of these teams has been challenged in their first two matchups.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: Auburn had a tough one against Baylor, but I don't know how good Baylor actually is.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: So that that's obviously they have a little bit more of a competitive game under their belt than Florida do, but I think this one will really tell us the tale of how those seasons will go, at least early on.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: So I'm rooting for my guy John Summerall in Florida.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: We'll see how that goes.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Jared, before we move out of college football, I have to ask you, as a journalist, did you see this bozo, James Franklin, in his press conference this week?
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: I actually didn't.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: Well, I'll I'll give you and the listeners some background as to what happened.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: James Franklin, notoriously just very cringe-worthy, obnoxious, at least to me.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: That's how I find him.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: I find him, quite frankly, repulsive to listen to.
- 17:10SPEAKER_02: I think he is the corniest, but also just kind of a dick.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: And this was on full display.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: Apparently, he has this ongoing thing where he has to address people and they have to address him by saying hello, which seems like a nice gesture.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: Like, say hello, coach, I'll say hello.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: And he mentions the reporter's first name as if he has a relationship with him.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: That's good to hear.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: Well, in this clip, the reporter says, Hey coach, and then proceeds to ask his question.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: And as he's trying to ask his question, James Franklin just keeps saying, I forget the guy's name, hey Mike, hey Mike, hey Mike, until the guy has to go out of his way and say, Hey coach again.
- 17:46SPEAKER_02: And it it was like just this power struggle where he's clearly trying to alpha this guy and shove him in a locker.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: And it's just another example of why I can't stand James Franklin.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: And I wanted to root for Virginia Tech a little bit because I like seeing them be good again, enter Sandman, all that stuff great.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: He just reminded me again of why I can't.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's uh they're trying to do work too, asking the questions.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: We can't go over uh pleasantries for an hour.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: Like this is the time is time is key.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: A lot of these sides and programs, they don't they they only have a certain amount of time that they even let the coaches and players out.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: And it's usually on the shorter side.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: So crazy, crazy from him.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: I'm the same way.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: Obviously, he's did a he won a lot of Penn State, not big games, but overall building a program.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: He's done good works with that, but as a person, just miss me on him.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, just take it away.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: No thank you.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: And in a similar boat, Jared, we we are blessed as a Rutgers hater, which I I do pride myself in being.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: We've got Greg Ciano back to his absolute worst, which is great to see.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: He has a bad, bad outfit on the field this year.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: Their team stinks, they couldn't stop a runny nose.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: And he, I was watching them in the red bandana game in Boston College, which shout out that was one of my winning picks this week, which were few and far between.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: I always take Boston College in the Red Bandana game, Wells Crow there.
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: It's a great story, if you're unfamiliar with it.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: But Greg Ciano, I don't know if you've seen their games, Jared.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: He basically has a guy or two on his staff that come up to him after each play and kind of whisper into his ear.
- 19:22SPEAKER_02: It's almost like they're translating what happened on the field.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: I can't quite understand what they're doing, but they're talking to him after each play, and then he just kind of like subtly nods, like I get it now.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: But I don't know what's happening in Ruckers.
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: I don't know if Shano can see.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: I don't know what's going on.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: I think Ruckers are one of the worst teams in the sport this year.
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: So I just wanted to shout that out before we move on.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: What was that movie?
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: I forget, it came out late 2010s, where they put a bandana or something over the eyes and they would like drive in that bird box or something.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, bird box, yeah.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: Maybe, maybe it's that.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: Maybe he doesn't have it, but like he can't see, and then they have to whisper to him.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: That's what it seemed like.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: It it was like bird box situation.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: That's a great shout-out by you.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: Bird box.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: That is weird, that is weird behavior.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: Rutgers is down bad, bad too.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: So yeah, maybe uh maybe they should either stop that, the whispering and just go with it, or be whispering to him for the entire game.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Either pick one, one or the other, not just crazy.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's not good.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: It's not good in Rutgers, which I do take some joy in seeing.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: So we'll leave it there in college football.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: We're excited for some games this weekend, especially the one in Oxford, Mississippi.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about the NFL Jair a lot to get to.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: And I think the best way for us to kind of talk about results that stood out to us in week one is a little segment I cooked up.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: It's it's a lengthy title, but bear with me.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: We're gonna call it.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: We aren't going to overreact to week one, but if we were, this is what we'll say.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: So I'll start off with an example, Jar.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: I'm not going to overreact to week one, but if I were, I would say that the Harbaugh coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, I always forget his name if it's John or Jim.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: I think it's Jim.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: Jim Harbaugh, the game's passed him by.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: He looked a little bit like Shiano, he looked out of sorts.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: Not only was it a disaster loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Jared, this guy, every time they cut to him, he's got his headphones around the back of his neck.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: They're on his collarbone at some points.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: His glasses are kind of half crooked, he his hat is on perfectly straight as always, and he's got this quizzical look on his face as if he has no clue what's happening.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: I'm out on the Chargers.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: Every year I do this shit to myself.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: I did it on this very program.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: I talked myself into them yet again.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: They're the best.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: They're like the Cowboys.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: They're the best at looking good in August and making you feel some type of way.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: And then immediately did I regret it.
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: Boy, oh boy, did they look horrible.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: And I would just like to say, Jim Jim Harbaugh, I've seen enough.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: No, no more for me, please.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: Waiter, I'll take the check.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: I can't believe believe that guy won a national championship, Sean.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: My goodness.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: To add insult to injury, I do a biggest loser, uh, where you pick one team every week and you have to pick them to lose, and then it's it's kind of like survivor.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: Picked uh picked Arizona to lose, of course.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: So that's uh that's terrible.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm out.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: I'm out after week one.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: So that's that's yeah, listen, it's it's bad stuff.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: If we aren't going, we aren't gonna overact to week one, but if we were stop it with Justin Herbert.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: My goodness, enough with Herbert.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: I think he's a very good quarterback.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: Don't get me wrong.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna overreact too much.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: This guy is a top five for everybody.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: He doesn't win, Sean.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: He doesn't, I think he's only made two playoff games in his career, both losses.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, everybody said he's talented.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: You gotta win.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: And like so many quarterbacks are disrespected.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: For some reason, he isn't enough with Herbert.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: What a loss! I mean, he didn't look good.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: He has a lot of talent, he has he's always had a lot of talent around him.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: Bad enough, enough with glazing Justin Herbert.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: It's enough.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's so bad.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that is funny, Jar.
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: We both did this independently, and both of our first takeaways were Chargers related, which I think speaks volumes just to how bad that performance was against the Cardinals.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: You never know how preseason people's opinions are actually how how people view the teams.
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: I I don't know whether we were just underselling how good the Cardinals were or overhyping the Chargers, and the answer might be somewhere in the middle, but I'm just gonna go ahead and say I think the Cardinals will end up stinking, and I'm certain that the Chargers are not an actual contender this year.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: So again, not gonna overreact, but if we were, the Chargers are dead.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: The Chargers, ever since the summer, they would greet each other when they would get to the facility every day and they'd say, 0-17.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: They know they they're they're not trying to win at all.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: Jacoby Brissett, that's their option at quarterback, who I like as a backup and like four years ago, but as a starter, they're just they're saying this isn't our year, we're gonna get some high trap picks, and then we're gonna go.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: Uh, maybe we can develop Carson Beck, but I don't know.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: We'll see there.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: But uh, we're gonna get a quarterback next year, and then it's full go.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Kind of halts their plans after week one, so they're probably kicking themselves in some ways, and I I truly think that they're kind of pissed off.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: Uh they don't want to win, but Chargers say that it doesn't matter.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Neither do we, apparently.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, in some ways, week one's an extension of the preseason.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: That's what people say.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: You see a lot more penalties in week one, a lot of procedural things, false starts, delays of games, illegal formation, things of that nature.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: The Chargers hit the trifecta and all those.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're they're they're just horrible from a coaching setup standpoint, which is why I directed my frustrations at Harbaugh.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: I have a second one, Jarr, and I'm gonna stay in LA for this one.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna overreact to week one, but if I was, the Rams might not be as good as people thought.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: Now, the argument could be made, we just need a whole new sports science department.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: Whatever case study allowed them to come up with the idea to arrive in Melbourne, Melbourne, about 10 minutes before kickoff.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: We need to figure out sports science, not a real thing, if that's what the answer was.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: Apparently, they sent 15 staff members over throughout the last few years to prepare for this occasion.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: Let me tell you this, Jared.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: Those staff members had a laugh at the Rams' expense.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: They had a free vacation, brother.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: That's what they did.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: They were saying, oh, we feel great.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: We're out on the town.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they they flew over and had a few bevies and then shipped back to LA.
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: They did not play a football game.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: I don't know what research they did that led them to this decision.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: It was a horrible one.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: They got played out of the stadium by the 49ers.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: But realistically, why I think the Rams might not be as good as we thought, I still think the Rams are a good football team.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna get on here and say otherwise.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: But I do think they have a little bit more to be worried about than I originally thought.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: I don't think their offensive line looked very good at all, which I don't think it is gonna be very good.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: I think kind of Stafford is able to patch a lot of that together and McVay through play calling and getting the ball out quickly.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: But I also now worry about Miles Garrett with this injury, which apparently he's been around for a little while and he tried to play through.
- 26:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so that's a little concerning.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: Aaron Donald, obviously a Hall of Famer, one of the best players on the defensive side of the ball ever.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: He's been on his couch for two years.
- 26:43SPEAKER_02: Now, him being on his couch, me being on my couch look a lot different.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: I tell you that.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: I'll hand up that immediately.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: But I do think there's just more concern around the Rams now than I thought there would be two weeks ago.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: So that's why I've brought them up here.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: I love how it might have been tough to rev up Donald for the week one game in Australia, but I love how he sort of said, I'm gonna pass on that flight.
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: Uh, I'll see you back in LA or wherever they are, week two.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think LA.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, listen, it like you mentioned, it's a good point, Sean.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: Garrett had this injury kind of, and they probably knew that it had to, they had to, you know, open up and clean up his knee a little bit.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: Why he played, even with that known, I don't know.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: It feels like in the Rams aren't the only team.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: The Eagles do this too.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Some of these teams are weird with injuries.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: How like I think some to think it's weak if they report on the injuries if they're not that big, but like it's a long season, and you're gonna he's on IR too.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: It's at least four weeks, and I don't know.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: The knee is like it's not that simple.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: Like, it could be more than that.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, you really need Stafford to have the season he had last year.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: That's gonna be tough just so based on stats and the fact that he's older.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: They're still good, but wake up call, and maybe they're gonna have more competition in the West with uh Seattle and maybe the Niners too.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: Purdy, Purdy is solid for sure, so interesting.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: I I'm right there with you on the injury front.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: It does feel like something weird is up with some of these teams where they try to hide them for what benefit, I don't know.
- 28:16unknown: Right.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: Jarr, what's your second non-overreaction?
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: So, my non-overreaction is Eagles Super Bowl, book it, see you there.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: But this is to go, you know, nice little win.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: I better than I thought, just because new offensive system, no AJ Brown.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: Nice win.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: But uh, they look better than I thought.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: Obviously, that's a big uh task to go to the Super Bowl with this team, possibly, and also after this week, the three best odds in the NFC are Seattle, Niners, and Rams.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: I think in that order.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: So not exactly promising.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: Not that that's the end all be all, but you know, Eagles played good football, good to have them back.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: More of unrelated to that, I just wanted to sneak that in.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: Brian Schottenheimer, I don't know, is a head coach.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, listen, I don't want to overreact, but listen, I did the the offense was so good last year.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: We sort of see this a lot, Sean.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: One year Dak's great, the next year he's not, and usually because he doesn't have a running game with him, that he's not great.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: And I don't know if uh Javante Williams can keep it up year in, year out.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: But he Dak's always one year great, one year bad.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: Next year great, next year bad.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: And the defense looks the same.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: Like maybe they're a little better than last year, but it still doesn't look that good.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: So yeah, wanted to sneak that in there as well.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: A little two for one in the NFC East.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: I like that, Jarrett.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: And honestly, the Eagles result.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: I think you're right in saying they looked pretty good, especially for a new OC taking over.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: I wasn't super impressed with the Eagles, but I was pretty low on the commander, so maybe that was skewing my thought a little bit.
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: I thought the Eagles relied on some really nice chunk plays to score points, but then through large stretches, that game, the offense looked pretty similar to last year for me.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: We saw Saquon really struggle to run the ball again, things like that.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: But I think the main point is those boys in Dallas, they're the best team in August every year.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: We talk about them with the Chargers.
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: We mentioned on this program how me and Collins talked about it.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: Every year they get so much hype, and by kickoff, you'd think, oh my god, they're five time Super Bowl champs in the last 10 years based on the hype they get.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: The Chargers are who we thought they were.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: They're still, or the Cowboys are who we thought they were.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: They're still not a good team.
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: I'm with you on Brian Schottenheimer.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't believe in them as far as I could throw them.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: And I think early the Eagles immediately stake their claim to once again win the NFC East.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: So I like that.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: And Jared, I actually have a fun tie-in for this one with my next one.
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: I don't want to overreact, but I think the Chicago Bears might have the best offense in NFL history this season.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: I am drinking all of the Ben Johnson Kool-Aid.
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: I can't get enough of them.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: Of course, you know my love for Caleb Williams.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: I've never shied away from that on this program.
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: I never will.
- 31:00SPEAKER_02: Uh and why I think this is a tie into the Cowboys Jair, would you believe that one of our bozo friends made a bet with me that the Chicago Bears will score less than the Dallas Cowboys this season?
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: Interesting bet.
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: I think it's crazy to go the other way, especially because I know I guess the Bears play the Eagles in good defenses, but I know Dallas Dallas is going to play some better teams this year, too, I think.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: Caleb looks silly.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the bet obviously it was made after the Bears scored 59 as well, which is even crazier.
- 31:34SPEAKER_02: I gave him minus 19.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: So I have the Bears to score 20 or more points more than the Dallas Cowboys this season.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: I absolutely love that bet.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I mean, we're off to a flying start.
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: It's 59 to 20 early, which I mean it's just great.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: I I do think a part of why I think the Bears' offense will be so good is just how bad their defense is.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: We talked about the Cowboys having a bad defense last year, which led to maybe their offense having some inflated statistics.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: I think we're gonna see the same thing with the Bears this year.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: I think their defense is almost equally as bad as their offense is good.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: So that's a concern for their actual chances this season.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: I don't think they're a Super Bowl threat for that reason.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: But I think offensively, when you combine a genius play caller like Ben Johnson with a unicorn of a talent like Caleb Williams, I think we're gonna see some special things.
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: They put up 59 points, and arguably their best receiving option didn't have a catch.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: Colston Loveland.
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: So I'm bullish on the Bears, Jar.
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: What do you have for the last one?
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: Uh this is an interesting one, Sean.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna overreact, but maybe this is uh maybe the Lions should be given a loss even though they won.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I've ever felt this way before about teams.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, we joke around saying they played to lose even if they won, whatever.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: Lions were so bad against the Saints, really didn't play that well overall, and then won an overtime kind of in ugly fashion.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: If you're the Lions, you might be.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: I mean, the window definitely felt like it was closing last year.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: They're lucky they get a win, but going forward, geez, I am concerned about them.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: I'm concerned about both sides, defense, offense, and yeah, I don't know.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: Could be a long season in a lot of ways for them.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was surprised at this one.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: They took the commanding lead, it was 21-0.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: I believe it was 21-0 in the fourth or at least late in the third, and then they completely let the Saints come back into that one.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: Uh a surprise, and then honestly, bailed out by that golf fumble.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: I've never seen something like that.
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: I don't know how that's not a fumble.
- 33:31SPEAKER_02: So it does feel as if the Lions stole one there.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: That that's a pretty good one from you.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: And I I do think there's some more questions about the Lions now than I had a couple weeks ago.
- 33:43SPEAKER_02: I thought they were gonna have a nice bounce back season.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: I'm a little bit more concerned.
- 33:46SPEAKER_02: I don't know exactly how good that defense is.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: And then there's some games with Jared Goff where you're just like, oh God, what did we get ourselves into because of his lack of mobility and things?
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: If you could get pressure on him, especially up the middle, he's not an effective quarterback.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: If he's able to keep a clean pocket, I think you see Jared Goff at his best.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: But the Lions are an interesting one, for sure.
- 34:09SPEAKER_02: And then I don't, I'm not gonna officially file this one in, Jared, but I just wanted to mention it because it was a really good performance in a big window.
- 34:16SPEAKER_02: The Monday night game.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: Kansas City, Jair, I'm not gonna overreact to week one, but if I were, I'd say the Chiefs are back.
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: And I would say it's all down to my guy, K9, Kenneth Walker, number nine, an absolute dog.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: And I had long been singing Kenneth Walker's praises in Seattle.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: He couldn't get a carry.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: Zach Charbonnet stealing carries from him, left, right, and center.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: And every time Kenneth touched the ball, I was like, hey guys, this guy's really good.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: Now I know he has some durability concerns, which is going to be an issue, especially if the Chiefs use them, use him like they did.
- 34:49SPEAKER_02: They used him way too frequently in that Monday night game.
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: So they need to limit his touches a little bit, but I think his explosiveness in the backfield is something they have not had since rookie year Kareem Hunt.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: And I think that's when the Chiefs' offense was really at its best.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: So if they're able to run the ball effectively, I think that makes Mahomes better.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: I think it makes the passing game better.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: I think it opens up the playbook for Andy Reid.
- 35:12SPEAKER_02: I think that was a promising sign and a real statement win for the Chiefs against a team a lot of people had picked to win that division.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: Let's move on.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: We have a little we we brought it to the listeners last year, the bad coaches club.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: We also opened up the good coaches club, and I don't think it would be fair for us to put somebody in the bad coaches club or converse with the good coaches club after just one week.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: But we can issue some warning shots, Jar.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: Do you have any warning shots to issue after week one?
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: I have quite a few, and they're they're lucky that they're warning shots because I maybe they're bad, but you know, I don't want to age too badly.
- 35:49SPEAKER_00: Give me Robert Salah.
- 35:51unknown: Bad.
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: Bad.
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: They lose to the Jets.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: Bad.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: In in Tennessee, I don't I don't know what they they get smoked by the Jets at home.
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: They they're supposed to have their franchise quarterback and Cam Ward.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: He doesn't look great.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: I still kind of like him going forward in some ways, but that's dwindling, honestly.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: They don't really have many good players.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: Jeffrey Simmons, great player.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know how many other good players they have on the team.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: They have a few here and there, but holy smokes, it's just been it's been bad news bears, bad news titans for the last 50, whatever years.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: And just I'll just end two.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: He's a good assistant coach, good defensive coordinator.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: When he was fired the first time after New York as the head coach, I usually I think other coaches like that should get a second head uh like a second chance.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: Him, I don't think so.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: And Sunday was kind of proof of that.
- 36:49SPEAKER_00: So yikes.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Jared, there's an expression that uh I use a lot, I'm sure thousands of people use about good coaches where they say that he can uh take his and beat yours and take yours and beat his.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: Just referring to how good of a coach they are, and it doesn't matter the player, they're able to win with whoever.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: Saul is the first guy for me that I am convinced he can take yours and lose to his and take his and lose to yours.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: We saw it with the Jets.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: It's hard to make Aaron Glenn and the New York Jets look like a competitive team, let alone a juggernaut.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: And they were not even in this game with the Jets.
- 37:26SPEAKER_02: It was over before it began.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: As a proud owner, or once proud owner, of a Cam Ward, Carnell Tate dynasty team stack.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: I want to sell immediately, Jair.
- 37:38SPEAKER_02: It's one of those things where you tune into the game in the first quarter and instantly you know, oh no, I made a big mistake.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: And I would like to point the finger to our Titans fan, Michael Blum.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: He allowed me to do this as a friend.
- 37:50SPEAKER_02: He came on this program and said he saw signs with Cam Ward last year.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: Signs?
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: I saw him miss a halfback swing by about six yards, Jar.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: It is grim in Tennessee.
- 38:01SPEAKER_02: And if it weren't for the Browns, I would say they're arguably the most tortured fan base in the sport.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, in some ways, you almost don't want to even count the Browns because they deserve their own little bracket of being a tortured fan.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Tennessee's up there.
- 38:16SPEAKER_00: They uh they have been so irrelevant.
- 38:19SPEAKER_00: I think the Browns in some way, they've been so bad, but it's kind of cool in the way that they're bad because you know, such a great fan base.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: I don't really think it's a badge of honor.
- 38:27SPEAKER_04: It's a badge of honor for your fan.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: I don't really think it's the same in Nashville, where with that fan base, yeah, it's uh yeah, pound for pound, yeah, sure.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: They might be worse.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's always tough when you think you have the franchise quarterback, and then you start to slowly realize you don't.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: It's it's a hard pill to swallow, Jaron.
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: Often it takes the fans of the team a lot longer to swallow it than it does a non neutral observer.
- 38:55SPEAKER_02: And as a neutral observer, I got I got news for you, Titans fans.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: He ain't it.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: And it could be because of Bobby Sala.
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: Listen, I I know he's he's not helping the situation.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: I think the offensive coordinator is Brian Dable, too, who is who is already in the bad coaches club.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: So we've got quite the group down there in Nashville trying to lead the Titans out of misery.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: I don't have much hope that they're gonna be able to do it.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: Who else do you have?
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: Who else do I have?
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: I have I have, of course, Jim Harbaugh.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: We we said it before, what a bad loss.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: Has to be on watch.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: They were home too.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: It was in LA.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: No, to be fair, their their home is not really a home.
- 39:38SPEAKER_02: It's kind of it's kind of a released building that they kind of have some ownership in.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: They don't really have fans.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that is true.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: They play they play 18 or 17 road games.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: They got to sleep in their own beds, though.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: They didn't have to travel to Arizona, which isn't the worst trip, I guess, from LA, but it's still travel.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just crazy that they it's crazy they lost to Arizona.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: I I know week one can get freaky and weird things happen, but that that's that's too weird.
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: That's if you have a quarterback like Herbert, playmaker said he does have a few guys on defense too.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: It should have been an easy cover.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: I don't even know what the what the spread was, but I would have hammered that in addition to the pick for that uh for week one.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: So yeah, hardball's on that list, and it not so not so easy playing with the big boys and being elevated when you weren't in now that you're not in Michigan anymore.
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, once a once good coach and would have been in the good coaches club at one point in his career, but unfortunately, age comes for everybody, Jared.
- 40:45SPEAKER_02: Father time is undefeated, and I think the game might have passed him by.
- 40:49SPEAKER_02: I mentioned it might have passed his brother John by on the preview episode.
- 40:54SPEAKER_02: I thought that he was getting way too much love for some of the New York Giants hype that I was hearing.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: The Giants looked pretty good in week one.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: I mean, granted it was the Cowboys, but they looked like a well-coached outfit.
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: And on the flip side, his brother did anything but.
- 41:10SPEAKER_02: So I like that shout-out.
- 41:13SPEAKER_02: The other one I do think I hate to do this in his coaching debut as a head coach.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: He's been a great coordinator for a long time.
- 41:20SPEAKER_02: And it's kind of just a nature of where he's at, but Todd Munkin in Cleveland, first of all, trotting out Massage Boy, questionable at best, questionable at best to start him, especially after what he did to the fan base in the offseason.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: Also questionable afterwards to kind of just give the vibe of the post-game.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: He gave a couple good quotes.
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: He said, I saw some really good things on tape from Deshaun.
- 41:42SPEAKER_02: Boy, oh boy, that's not promising.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: And then also he said he's just really happy that he got to coach the game.
- 41:48SPEAKER_02: Kind of like happy to be there moment, which is great.
- 41:50SPEAKER_02: Like, hey, it's a lifelong journey to become an FLH coach.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: Elite group of people to do so.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: If that attitude is what you're going with, you're not gonna be one for long, Todd.
- 41:58SPEAKER_02: So I don't I don't like the Deshaun decision, but I will say it's Deshaun or Shador, and boy, do those options stink.
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: Uh, maybe did Munkin say that what he saw from Deshaun was from his uh Clemson days or early Texans days, because maybe that film was good, and it probably is.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: A lot of good tape there, Jared.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're right.
- 42:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, a lot of the few national championships uh down in Clemson, but uh yeah, not good.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: I like Munken too.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: He was a good coordinator, and he's kind of like the different kind of head coach that a lot of teams are going with.
- 42:31SPEAKER_00: A lot of guy teams are going with younger guys.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: He is not in that boat, he's not old old, but he's on the older side for you know head coaches, and it's gotta be tough for him.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: Just and anybody who gets hired by Cleveland, by the Browns, you're in it for it.
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: It's it's just it might be that might be the biggest difference in not being successful, too.
- 42:51SPEAKER_00: So I feel for him there, but not a good showing.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: And I think they're still rolling with uh Deshaun, so yikes.
- 42:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the wheels on the bus go round and round in Cleveland, and God, I feel terrible for them.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: If they weren't in my division, I would I would feel much worse, but I love having them around, so I don't feel as bad as many others, I would say.
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:12SPEAKER_02: I think that should do it for the NFL, Jair.
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: I'm excited for week two.
- 43:16SPEAKER_02: We've got some good games.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: We've got a good Thursday night game on paper, but the Thursday night games, enough with the Thursday night games.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: I'm out.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: I would like that on the record.
- 43:24SPEAKER_02: I don't want any more Thursday night football.
- 43:26SPEAKER_02: None of the games end up being good.
- 43:28SPEAKER_02: These guys go to war on a Sunday and then have to turn around and play a Thursday night game a couple days later.
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: They're never able to give it their best.
- 43:35SPEAKER_02: Yep, it's always sloppy.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: And when you have two good teams in the Thursday night game, it honestly feels like a waste because you're taking it away from what would be a really good game on a Sunday.
- 43:45SPEAKER_02: I would almost rather get the Browns a residency on Thursday night.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: Give me the Browns, the Jets, the Trash, yeah, the Dolphins.
- 43:55SPEAKER_02: Get them in a cycle day only play on Thursdays because at least then we know.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: It's a Mickey Mouse product that's coming out on the field.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: And honestly, sometimes if it's the more Mickey Mouse, the better.
- 44:05SPEAKER_02: You might get it, might get like just slap happy and a little bit drunk and fine.
- 44:11SPEAKER_02: That sounds good to me.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: When you put the good teams on Thursday night, it just takes away from good Sunday games.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: So I completely agree with you on those reasons, Sean.
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: I'll also do uh something like a selfish reason.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: I can't tell you how many times I have guys questionable for the Thursday night game for my fantasy team, and then they don't play or they do play and they're limited and they don't get any touches or targets because they're really too hurt.
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: And then they come out the next day and they say, Oh, they would have played, they would have been a full go Sunday if they if they were out last minute or um or something like that.
- 44:46SPEAKER_00: I hate that.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: It always happens to me basically every week of the season.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: So yeah, let's get rid of Thursday night games for that too.
- 44:53SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm right there with you.
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: I couldn't couldn't agree more.
- 44:56SPEAKER_02: Uh nothing good about Thursday night football.
- 44:58SPEAKER_02: Even if they moved it to Friday, I know they don't want to do that because of high school football, they don't want to hurt the grassroots level.
- 45:04SPEAKER_02: Even if you move to Friday, it's an extra day of rest.
- 45:06SPEAKER_02: I think the product would get a little bit better.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: And I wouldn't hate it as much.
- 45:09SPEAKER_02: I think Fridays are wide open in the fall for most people.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: So I think we just got to figure out what we're doing on Thursday night.
- 45:15SPEAKER_02: But the Lions Bills on Thursday night is actually a good game on paper.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: We'll see if it turns out to be that.
- 45:20SPEAKER_02: I'm excited for week two of the NFL.
- 45:22SPEAKER_02: I'm excited for week three of college.
- 45:23SPEAKER_02: We'll get to that a little bit later when we get to the drop the mic segment, Jar.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: Before we do that, though, we got to talk a little tennis.
- 45:29SPEAKER_02: You're our tennis guy.
- 45:30SPEAKER_02: We had the U.S.
- 45:31SPEAKER_02: Open Finals this past weekend.
- 45:33SPEAKER_02: Two excellent tournaments, both on the men's and women's side.
- 45:38SPEAKER_02: I was tuned into a lot of it.
- 45:40SPEAKER_02: Jar, before we get into the actual results, we need once again, I think we did the same exact segment last year, but um we have to do it again.
- 45:48SPEAKER_02: What is the deal with the scheduling of this thing?
- 45:51SPEAKER_02: We we need a common sense committee.
- 45:54SPEAKER_02: We talk about it all the time, but why on earth are they playing these things in the middle of week two of college football and the middle of the opening weekend in the NFL, the two finals?
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know if I have an answer that makes sense there for you, Sean.
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: The one thing I will say is that even though it's played in the States for the US Open, the tennis events aren't an American event.
- 46:18SPEAKER_00: It's more international.
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: So they don't, I guess they don't really care about the NFL thing, even though I think they should more.
- 46:26SPEAKER_00: So I think there's that.
- 46:27SPEAKER_00: That's not a great excuse, but I think that's what goes into it on their end.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not great, especially smack in the middle of these uh games on Sunday specifically for the men's finals.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: Not doing themselves any favors for the American crowd.
- 46:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, get another screen or whatnot, but sheesh, it's uh yeah, we do run into this every year, and and they don't space out like it's a tight tournament where these guys have an off day between rounds, maybe two, but if they go five sets early in the first round, they're in trouble basically for the rest of the tournament.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, especially on the surface that they play at the US Open, just takes a beating, and uh it's not the softest compared to grass, compared to clay.
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're they're not doing themselves any favors.
- 47:10SPEAKER_00: I don't know how they figure it out.
- 47:11SPEAKER_00: I don't know if they will, they probably won't.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: So there we are with that.
- 47:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:15SPEAKER_02: Well, Jair, I do appreciate that answer.
- 47:17SPEAKER_02: It isn't maybe I'm not the target audience, is maybe why they're scheduling conflicts for me because I'm a football guy, so I do understand that.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about the actual winners.
- 47:28SPEAKER_02: Let's start on the women's side.
- 47:29SPEAKER_02: Elena Rabakina wins over Arena Sabalenka.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: Jair, I have to ask you, who is the best women's tennis player now?
- 47:38SPEAKER_02: Was this a deserved winner in this event?
- 47:40SPEAKER_02: Talk to me about how it all broke out.
- 47:41SPEAKER_02: Rabacina was able to beat Coco Goff in the semis, too.
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: So our American hope kind of died there on the women's side.
- 47:48SPEAKER_02: It seemed like a pretty thorough performance from her throughout this tournament.
- 47:51SPEAKER_00: She played great.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: And I feel bad for Robacina too, because everybody was rooting for Goff as the American at the US Open.
- 47:58SPEAKER_00: And you understand that.
- 47:59SPEAKER_00: Like, that's not that's just that's just the dynamics.
- 48:01SPEAKER_00: But like when Rabakina won that match in the semis to go to the finals, like everybody kind of sighed and was like disappointed, and like that stinks for her.
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: But after that match, too, Sean, uh, she became the world's number one in women's tennis, regardless, I guess, of the outcome of the finals against Sabalinka.
- 48:18SPEAKER_00: Uh, she played great tennis, no doubt about it.
- 48:21SPEAKER_00: Her third grand slam went through a gauntlet through the semis in uh the finals with Goff with Sabalenka, who is a great player.
- 48:30SPEAKER_00: Definitely worthy for Robacina and kind of quiet throughout the tournament and how she progressed.
- 48:36SPEAKER_00: But then as she picked up, you know, people are gaining more interest and respect for her, I think, after this uh US Open Championship performance.
- 48:45SPEAKER_00: Do you think she's the number one on the women's side now?
- 48:48SPEAKER_00: It's tough.
- 48:48SPEAKER_00: I wrote down some stats.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: It's either between her or Sabalenka.
- 48:52SPEAKER_00: It really could again, I'm gonna take the cop out answer, Sean.
- 48:55SPEAKER_00: That's just who I am with these.
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: That's what's gonna happen.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: It's really close.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: Rabakna, she now is number one, which helps, but I wrote down a few things.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: It's tough because age-wise, uh, Sabalinka's a little older, which I kind of respect more because they've been doing a little longer.
- 49:10SPEAKER_00: Matchup-wise, series-wise, Sabalenka's 10-7 against Rabakna, but Rabakna's four and two in finals against Sabalenka.
- 49:19SPEAKER_00: And uh Sabalenka is two and one in grand slam matches against her, but Sabalenka also has four, Rabakna has three.
- 49:27SPEAKER_00: It's close.
- 49:28SPEAKER_00: I don't know what to say.
- 49:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, you could go either way.
- 49:31SPEAKER_00: I guess I'd give it to Robacna just because of recency bias and uh the run that she's been on this year.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: I don't have an issue with still giving it to Sabalenka, but it's close.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: It's it it really is a coin flip and uh flavor, kind of flavor of the month kind of thing.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: I was doing a little bit of just surface level research into the history between the two, and it it kind of does seem like it goes back and forth.
- 49:53SPEAKER_02: And it might depend on the tournament or the form or the surface between who's actually better, but those are the clear top two, I would say, on the women's side at the moment, which is a little bit discouraging for us Coco Goth fans, and you want to see the Americans get back to dominating on the women's side after the Williams sisters spoiled us for a long time.
- 50:12SPEAKER_02: I don't know that Coco's going to get to their level, but she is a little bit younger than both of them, correct?
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: And I think hopefully one day she's able to take that step, or we'll flip to the men's side.
- 50:23SPEAKER_02: It's a similar situation over there.
- 50:25SPEAKER_02: This was a tournament where Carlos Alcaraz was coming back from injury, was still able to make a decent run before he was into Ben Shelton.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, played pretty well, better than I think any of us expected.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: But Alexander Zaverev is able to come home with the slam title.
- 50:40SPEAKER_02: He was the best player throughout this tournament.
- 50:42SPEAKER_02: I saw a stat.
- 50:43SPEAKER_02: I don't think he lost a service game for I want to say like 60 straight or something absurd.
- 50:48SPEAKER_02: He was he was completely in control of his service games, even though he's not the hardest server.
- 50:53SPEAKER_02: I think Shelton has him on that front.
- 50:56SPEAKER_02: He beats Ben in the final.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: Another situation where we're rooting for the American.
- 51:00SPEAKER_02: Ben Shelton, he makes a great run.
- 51:02SPEAKER_02: He has unbelievable matches throughout.
- 51:05SPEAKER_02: He plays Tiafo in the semifinals.
- 51:07SPEAKER_02: That's electric.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: Trinity Rodman's there the whole way.
- 51:10SPEAKER_02: His girlfriend supporting him.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: It's all good vibes until he ran into the buzzsaw that is Zaverev.
- 51:16SPEAKER_02: Would you agree that Zaverev was the best player throughout this event?
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: Sasha's uh Zarev is playing the best tennis in the men's group this seat this year.
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: He has two grand slams this year, finally got over that hump.
- 51:29SPEAKER_00: Yes, it definitely helps not to go through Carlos Alcaraz, Yannick's uh center.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: You can't you can't avoid that.
- 51:35SPEAKER_00: That's also sports, too.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: It just happens.
- 51:38SPEAKER_00: Uh, but Zero's putting across a really good uh year, and he was totally worthy.
- 51:42SPEAKER_00: Might have had a third grand slam if uh wasn't playing through injured against uh Yannick.
- 51:47SPEAKER_00: He's playing great tennis.
- 51:48SPEAKER_00: Good for him, too.
- 51:49SPEAKER_00: Finally getting some grand slams under his belt for someone who's 29, who's been a top 25 player for the last decade and been a top 10 player for the last however many years.
- 52:01SPEAKER_00: So good for him.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: Very worthy.
- 52:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it is cool for him.
- 52:05SPEAKER_02: And honestly, I love one thing I love about tennis is the post-game speeches, especially in these Grand Slams, where each player gets the turn to talk, and a lot of times they're very appreciative of not only their teams, but their opponent, and they speak highly of them, and it's all very much good sportsmanship, all class.
- 52:21SPEAKER_02: I like those moments, and in this moment, Zaverev took time, he really gave a heartfelt message to Ben Shelton and his team, which was cool.
- 52:29SPEAKER_02: He's he compared him to himself a lot.
- 52:31SPEAKER_02: He's like, we're very similar, we're close to our family, and it's a close group that we keep around us, and I thought that message was cool.
- 52:37SPEAKER_02: I also think I saw an interview with him where he was asked, and this is the kind of question I want to ask you, does he think he's the best now in the sport?
- 52:45SPEAKER_02: And he kind of answered it in a very modest way, and I think it's probably how you'll answer it as well.
- 52:50SPEAKER_02: He said, at this moment in time, yeah, maybe you could say that because Carlos is coming back from injury and because Yannick Sinner is outhurt, you could say maybe I'm the best.
- 53:00SPEAKER_02: But he did say kind of humbly that until he beats those guys when they're at their best, he can't be the best.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: Would you agree?
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: I would.
- 53:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's the best right now for sure.
- 53:10SPEAKER_00: Uh, with uh his wins this season, getting those uh grand slams, that's awesome.
- 53:15SPEAKER_00: A fully healthy Carlos Alcaraz and a fully healthy Yannick Sinner are just better than him.
- 53:20SPEAKER_00: But a great one C or whatever it would be if he's the third option and uh behind those two.
- 53:25SPEAKER_00: Can't fault that.
- 53:26SPEAKER_00: And uh yeah, you have to acknowledge what he's done right now and give him his top ground because he is the best player, especially with when those guys are coming back from injury.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: They can't get the benefit benefit of the doubt, even though they are so talented, Sean.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, I think that's a fair answer.
- 53:42SPEAKER_00: I think it's act accurate when those two are healthy.
- 53:45SPEAKER_00: They're just better, but I want to see, I want to see everyone healthy at the same time, hopefully, next year as we get into Australian Open.
- 53:53SPEAKER_00: Uh maybe a little bit Davis Cup towards the end, but I don't I don't put too much weight in that.
- 53:57SPEAKER_00: Definitely Australian Open.
- 53:59SPEAKER_00: Let's see what we can do.
- 54:00SPEAKER_00: I think Carlos is on the right track, played great, smoked Tommy Paul in the quarters.
- 54:05SPEAKER_00: So they're everyone I think is on the right track, and I assume Yannick's probably on the right track too.
- 54:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm hopeful, hopefully we get some really good majors in tennis in the next calendar year or so, because it feels like if we could get Yannick healthy and Alcaraz healthy, and then you have the guys coming up like a Zaverev and the Ben Shelton of the world.
- 54:25SPEAKER_02: If we could get all of those guys fit and firing for a couple majors in a row, that would be great.
- 54:30SPEAKER_02: We just haven't seen it consistently because of injuries.
- 54:32SPEAKER_02: So a lot to be excited about on the tennis front.
- 54:35SPEAKER_02: It's a sport I've grown to appreciate and like a lot more in recent years.
- 54:39SPEAKER_02: I just wish we wouldn't schedule finals for the middle of NFL Sunday.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: That would be my one ask to the committee.
- 54:45SPEAKER_00: That's fair.
- 54:46SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 54:47SPEAKER_02: Put it on at the same time as the Sunday night game, the Cowboys Giants snooze fest.
- 54:51SPEAKER_02: What are we at least that you're going up against one game instead of 15?
- 54:54SPEAKER_02: Totally agree.
- 54:55SPEAKER_02: It's also the NFL's fault for scheduling every good game at 1 p.m.
- 54:59SPEAKER_02: Eastern time.
- 55:00SPEAKER_02: So yeah, well, that was up that this year.
- 55:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's it's awful.
- 55:03SPEAKER_02: It's awful.
- 55:04SPEAKER_02: That's a conversation for a different day, Jar.
- 55:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 55:07SPEAKER_02: Anything else, Jair, as we as we wrap up, I did want to give a quick shout-out to the Solheim Cup, which is basically the female version of the Ryder Cup in the world of golf.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: My Europeans once again victorious, just completely battering the Americans every chance we get in golf events.
- 55:25SPEAKER_02: We've owned the Ryder Cup, now we own the Solheim Cup as well.
- 55:29SPEAKER_02: A really strong performance in the Netherlands.
- 55:31SPEAKER_02: Great to see.
- 55:33SPEAKER_02: They were taking the piss out of the American team, too, kind of chanting and singing on the bus like we drink, they drink on Saturday, we drink on Sunday, because some American caddies were kind of celebrating Saturday.
- 55:43SPEAKER_02: It was really cool to see.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: So happy for them.
- 55:46SPEAKER_02: Mike Collins had no comment.
- 55:48SPEAKER_02: He was in shambles.
- 55:48SPEAKER_02: I asked him for a comment, and he he diverted and dodged the question as usual when it comes to owning it when his Americans lose.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: Jared, we also have a drop the mics segment that we've been doing this year.
- 56:00SPEAKER_02: And I know you're a listen, you're a listener of the program when you're not on.
- 56:03SPEAKER_02: It is myself going against Michael Collins and Mike Blum in a season-long picks pool.
- 56:08SPEAKER_02: Mark Manera was on last week and he took the side of the mics.
- 56:12SPEAKER_02: He said he's backing them to win this year.
- 56:15SPEAKER_02: Before I give you a standings update, Jared, I would like to know what side you will be taking.
- 56:21SPEAKER_00: Well, this I don't need much thought on this, Sean.
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: I'm going with my guy who's always in the trenches, who I can always rely on, who has a big, big brain, who never makes decisions based on emotions.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: It's always logical.
- 56:38SPEAKER_00: That's all wrong.
- 56:40SPEAKER_00: I'm going with my guy, Sean Boyle.
- 56:42SPEAKER_02: Well, I thank you, Chair.
- 56:43SPEAKER_02: I appreciate that.
- 56:44SPEAKER_02: I was assuming it was me because you said my guy and not my guys with the plural gave it away, but the big brain and the emotionless picks were very much false.
- 56:52SPEAKER_02: I'm very guilty of a tiny little mucho poquito brain and going with my heart way too frequently.
- 57:00SPEAKER_02: But we have some interesting developments, Chair, in these standings.
- 57:04SPEAKER_02: Last week, I went three and four in college, and that honestly is pretty flattering because the four losses were some of the worst picks you'll ever see.
- 57:12SPEAKER_02: I took Oregon minus a billion, they lost outright.
- 57:15SPEAKER_02: I took Minnesota, they lost by 200.
- 57:18SPEAKER_02: I took Kentucky against your Crimson Tide.
- 57:21SPEAKER_02: They were up for 40 minutes in that game and lost by 100.
- 57:25SPEAKER_02: Some really bad picks by me.
- 57:27SPEAKER_02: I went three and four in college, but three and one in the NFL.
- 57:30SPEAKER_02: I'm an NFL better.
- 57:31SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 57:32SPEAKER_02: Michael Collins and Michael Blum last week.
- 57:35SPEAKER_02: They went six and four in college, pretty good, but then one and three in the NFL.
- 57:39SPEAKER_02: A disaster in the NFL.
- 57:40SPEAKER_02: And my only NFL lost year was the Eagles, your Philadelphia Eagles.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: So yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:46SPEAKER_00: Me too.
- 57:47SPEAKER_00: Me too.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: I predicted the score.
- 57:49SPEAKER_00: I predicted the score.
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: I had 24-16.
- 57:52SPEAKER_00: If they have one fourth down stop, the score's right.
- 57:55SPEAKER_00: But yeah, that's it.
- 57:56SPEAKER_00: That is a tough uh five and a half that they didn't cover at the end.
- 58:01SPEAKER_00: I do feel bad for people who supported the card.
- 58:03SPEAKER_02: That killed me.
- 58:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 58:04SPEAKER_02: That killed me, that Eagles game.
- 58:06SPEAKER_02: I really thought they were going to get the job done.
- 58:09SPEAKER_02: I have a bunch of picks from Michael Collins this week to read to you, the listener.
- 58:14SPEAKER_02: I'll go through them quickly.
- 58:16SPEAKER_02: Michael Blum is on a European vacation, and he's the frugal man in that relationship, as we have talked about.
- 58:22SPEAKER_02: So the purse strings are loosened, and Collins is like a pig in shit.
- 58:27SPEAKER_02: He has absolutely sprayed the board.
- 58:31SPEAKER_02: So before I read all of theirs, I will give you a season-long standings update.
- 58:37SPEAKER_02: The records are the mics are 12, 9, and 1 with a 57 win percentage.
- 58:43SPEAKER_02: Pretty good.
- 58:44SPEAKER_02: And I am 11, 9, and 0 with a 55% win percentage.
- 58:48SPEAKER_02: So both of us are above 500.
- 58:50SPEAKER_02: Some encouraging finds.
- 58:53SPEAKER_02: Keep count, if you could, of all these plays from Michael Collins.
- 58:55SPEAKER_02: Let me know the final total.
- 58:56SPEAKER_02: I will read them.
- 58:58SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 58:58SPEAKER_02: In college, he has Kansas State minus 20.5.
- 59:03SPEAKER_02: Wisconsin, minus 23.5.
- 59:06SPEAKER_02: Temple, plus five and a half.
- 59:09SPEAKER_02: Texas AM, Kentucky, over 50.5.
- 59:12SPEAKER_02: Duke, minus 9.5, with a quote, this is a rat line.
- 59:17SPEAKER_02: Louisville, minus 2.5, with another quote, another rat.
- 59:21SPEAKER_02: FIU FAU over 62.5.
- 59:24SPEAKER_02: That is a system play.
- 59:25SPEAKER_02: He loves FAU overs and they have been cashing.
- 59:28SPEAKER_02: He has Colorado State plus 17.5.
- 59:32SPEAKER_02: LSU and Ole Miss over 58.5 in the lane.
- 59:35SPEAKER_02: Kiffin Bull.
- 59:36SPEAKER_02: And finally North Dakota State minus 27.5 in college.
- 59:41SPEAKER_02: In the pro ranks, Michael Collins has gone for Bills, Lions over 53.5, Falcons plus 2.5, Steelers, Patriots under 41 and a half, and Jets, Packers over 45 and a half.
- 59:56SPEAKER_02: Jar, how many plays was that?
- 59:58SPEAKER_02: I lost count, honestly.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_02: That is an absolutely unbelievable number of plays.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_02: I think like 14.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_02: 15.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_02: I believe it's 15.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_02: Yes, you were right there.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_02: So 15 plays when Michael Collins has free run of the board.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_02: That's crazy.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_02: We do love to see it.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_02: Boy oh boy, is that an awful lot.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_02: I am keeping it much simpler on the college side because I'm not a good college football better.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_02: I will be taking the Florida Gators minus two and a half at Auburn.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_02: I'm a believer in John Summerall.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_02: I will be joining Michael Collins on the Temple Owls plus five and a half.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_02: That's a system play.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_02: I bet Casey Keeler.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_02: He's a winner.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_02: And even if he doesn't win, he covers.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_02: And then lastly, I will be taking USC minus 23.5 against Rutgers.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_02: This is a West Coast team traveling east.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_02: It's a bit of a rat line, but I have seen absolutely nothing from Rutgers to get me to believe in them.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_02: And then also I really don't want to do this because I feel like karma might get in the way, but I will take Virginia Tech minus two and a half at Maryland.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I should do that after my comments on James Franklin, but I do think Virginia Tech are a better team.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: In the NFL, I have the Texans, Bengals under 46.5.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_02: We saw the Texans defense get exposed last week.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_02: I think in week two, water finds its level.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_02: I think we're going to regress back to a lower scoring affair.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_02: I've got the Lions plus four and a half against the Bills on Thursday night.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_02: I don't like betting Thursday night, but I think the game might be Mickey Mouse, and a field goal seems to be a fair line.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_02: Four and a half seems to be a bit too much for me.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_02: I'm once again taking your birds, minus seven.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: I talked about the Titans and what an absolute dumpster fire they are.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_02: They have to beat these guys by more than seven.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_02: No excuses otherwise.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: I'm also taking the Bears, minus five and a half.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_02: Because I bet the Bears.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_02: Last two picks, I have Broncos, minus two and a half.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_02: Bo Knicks was absolutely drunk on Monday night.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_02: Hopefully he sobers up and gets the job done at home.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_02: He just keep it between the mustard and the mayo, Bo, please, for God's sakes.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_02: And then last but not least, I'm taking the commanders plus three and a half against the Cowboys.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_02: I'm not buying these Cowboys, Schottenheimer.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_02: I the commander showed me a little bit of something against the Eagles.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_02: They looked half decent, better than I expected.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_02: So I'll take the points in a divisional matchup.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_02: Jeremy, your thoughts.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_00: I like your NFL ones.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm the same way.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: College, I can't figure out.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_00: I don't think I'll ever figure out.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_00: NFL, I don't really have it figure out, but I feel more comfortable engaging with that kind of stuff.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, if the Eagles don't win by seven or more, I mean end the season.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, listen.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_00: Washington's weird.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_00: I think Washington, uh, I think they're gonna start collecting losses before you blink and like they're one and seven.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_00: But Jaden Daniels is healthy, and uh, I guess it's in Dallas, but he looked good, yeah.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_00: He moved well, which is big for that offense because that offensive line doesn't look great, so it might get exhausting over time, but yeah, not bad.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_00: I like Stephon Diggs looked pretty good too.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_00: He's weird.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_02: He's someone to Von Diggs' performance where he scores the touchdown and immediately kills his team by humping the goalpost and getting a 50 yard penalty, which then made them miss the extra point and also not allow them to go for two, most importantly.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, just that's that's page one of this Von Diggs playbook.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_02: Good play, bonehead play.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_02: He sandwiched it together in this one.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_02: So exciting stuff on the football frontier.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_02: I'm excited to watch this weekend.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_02: We've got some great fall weather in the air this week in Pennsylvania, so I'm enjoying every bit of that.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_02: Jeremy, anything on your end before we head out?
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_00: Tennis was great, and I'd just add, Ben Sheldon, good tournament.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_00: We'll see if he can keep up.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_00: It's nice too because the men's field I don't think is that great going down after the first like four or five names.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_00: Good players, but just not, they haven't really done it and figure it out.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_00: I think Ben Sheldon will definitely be around.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_00: Will he get over and win some grand slams and ultimately do it when people are healthy?
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_02: I hope so too.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_02: I like Ben a lot.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_02: I didn't like him in college as much because he went to Florida and he absolutely cooked Kentucky a few times and he was a little cocky thing, but now you you hear him speak and he seems like a really, really good guy, and he's our American hope on the men's side, it seems like.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_02: So I'm interested in getting behind him and Coco on the women's side.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_02: So we'll see what tennis has in store in the months to come.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_02: I will quickly, as a parting note to the listeners, I will also add LSU minus two and a half at all miss.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_02: I'm just playing the villain card with Lane.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_02: I think he just loves moments like this.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_02: So I think they just walk in there and they're the better team.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_02: They get the job done.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_02: So that's my last play in college.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_02: That's all we have for you in this episode.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_02: Jeremy, thank you as always for joining me.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_00: Sean, it was a pleasure.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_00: Thanks for having me.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_00: This was fun.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_02: Jar, it was the pleasure was all mine.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_02: So thank you once again.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_02: Listeners, thank you all for tuning in.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_02: We really do appreciate it.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_02: If you could like, subscribe, it would mean the world, you know.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_02: Maybe leave a comment, maybe, maybe a positive comment.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_02: You know, we're not in the hate space.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_04: Nothing bad.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, all the algorithm.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_02: It it matters in the algorithm.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_02: That's what people keep telling me.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_02: The algorithm, the algorithm, the algorithm.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_02: So toss in those likes, toss in those subscriptions.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_02: We appreciate you tuning in, and until next time, take care of the video.
